Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: International Correspondence with INSI Eye Insurance, Peace of mind for
- 0:04Speaker 1: New Zealand business.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Goodby two. It is now thirteen to six. We're off
- 0:10Speaker 2: to the UK. Kevin Gray, Hello, Hither Angel, pump and
- 0:13Speaker 2: ceremony as a Manual Macron comes to the UK for
- 0:16Speaker 2: the very first time since two thousand and eight, for
- 0:18Speaker 2: the very first time since Brexit.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Yes, a three day state visit. The red carpet being
- 0:23Speaker 1: rolled out quite literally. He's just spoken to Parliament saying
- 0:27Speaker 1: that the UK and France have a duty to tackle
- 0:29Speaker 1: illegal migration with humanity, solidarity and firmness. Some people in
- 0:34Speaker 1: this country don't believe France is doing enough to prevent
- 0:37Speaker 1: the small boats from leaving their shores, and the tens
- 0:40Speaker 1: of millions of New Zealand dollars that the UK has
- 0:43Speaker 1: given to France to tackle the problem has simply not
- 0:46Speaker 1: been used for that purpose. Nevertheless, there's a state banquet
- 0:50Speaker 1: at Windsor Castle this evening and so far a great
- 0:53Speaker 1: deal of warmth from all the dignitaries towards Immanual Macron.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Haven't seen any protests either, and of course the UN
- 1:00Speaker 1: very very keen to be slightly warmer towards Europe under
- 1:05Speaker 1: the new Prime Minister of Sekiir Starmership Sakis Starmer and
- 1:10Speaker 1: his premiership rafter the rather tough Brexit use. But there's
- 1:14Speaker 1: another thing. The French are still very very angry at
- 1:17Speaker 1: the orcust deal, the deal between the US, Australia and
- 1:21Speaker 1: the UK over its defense and the canceling at late
- 1:25Speaker 1: notice of a submarine contract between Australia and France which
- 1:29Speaker 1: then led to the announcement of ORCUS a short while later.
- 1:32Speaker 1: So a few apologies I think on the way, and
- 1:36Speaker 1: well hopefully some better news for him at home as well.
- 1:38Speaker 2: It's always slightly evolved with Orcus. And here's the thing.
- 1:41Speaker 2: The Australians went for the deal with America, and then
- 1:45Speaker 2: of course in came Donald Trump, who says, I don't
- 1:47Speaker 2: really want to worry too much about global global issues
- 1:51Speaker 2: in global pex. So maybe it's all bit of a mess.
- 1:53Speaker 2: We'll see. Now, three men have been found guilty of
- 1:56Speaker 2: an asonatech on a London warehouse and it's got Russian
- 2:00Speaker 2: so it's some reason involved. Yeah, that's right.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So a two twenty three year olds and a twenty
- 2:05Speaker 1: year old were found guilty today of aggravated arson with
- 2:08Speaker 1: intent to endanger life at an industrial unit. The reason
- 2:12Speaker 1: it's so important is this particular warehouse the company sent
- 2:16Speaker 1: aid and internet satellite equipment to Ukraine, so when it
- 2:20Speaker 1: suddenly burnt down seemingly without cause, a few eyebrows were
- 2:24Speaker 1: raised and it was said that they a group had
- 2:29Speaker 1: orchestrated this arson attack on behalf of the Wagner Group,
- 2:32Speaker 1: or the Wagner Group, which is of course the Russian
- 2:35Speaker 1: Mercenary Group. The UK government has prescribed this group as
- 2:39Speaker 1: a terrorist group, and it was said that roughly two
- 2:41Speaker 1: point three million New Zealand dollars worth of damage was
- 2:44Speaker 1: caused in the attack at the warehouse. But of course
- 2:46Speaker 1: it did mean as well that production also was disrupted
- 2:50Speaker 1: and that, no doubt is what the Russians were after
- 2:53Speaker 1: all along, not like in the fact that Ukraine was
- 2:56Speaker 1: receiving business and aid from this particular group shipped humanitarian
- 3:01Speaker 1: aid and goods to Ukraine, including the so called Starlink
- 3:04Speaker 1: satellite equipment that's crucial for Ukrainian troops as they work
- 3:08Speaker 1: out where the enemy is. And so consequently this was
- 3:12Speaker 1: a bit of a setback, it's thought to that and
- 3:14Speaker 1: a big warning from the Crown Prosecution Service here that
- 3:18Speaker 1: Russia cannot view the UK as some kind of a
- 3:21Speaker 1: soft target with which to do its dirty deals.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Getting Gray out of the UK. I thank you so
- 3:25Speaker 2: much for more from Early Edition with Ryan Bridge.
