- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? You're just like me, violent and
- 0:13depraved. Welcome to What's Your Least
- 0:16Favorite Scary Movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:18the good, the bad, the ugly, and the absurd in all of our
- 0:21favorite and least favorite scary movies.
- 0:23Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its fan
- 0:26base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:27My name is Travis. My name is Jesse.
- 0:29And welcome everybody to the sadness.
- 0:35What is it? What is it that sex bomb says
- 0:37like we're here? We're going to talk about death
- 0:39and make we're here to talk about death and get sad and
- 0:43stuff. I don't know, something like
- 0:45that. That's your fucking movie, man.
- 0:48I know, but man, huh. You sent me.
- 0:50You put me on the spot. Embarrassing.
- 0:53Whatever, we're here to talk about death and make you sad and
- 0:55stuff. OK, That's that's what we're
- 0:57doing today. That's what the it's the
- 0:58sadness, man, OK, Like it's right there in the title.
- 1:01We're not here to have a good time.
- 1:03We are here to have a good time, but it's going to be.
- 1:06Bad time. Talking about some really,
- 1:08really bad things. Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry.
- 1:10It's just, it's the that's the type of month that this is You,
- 1:16you started it by kicking it off with Blink twice.
- 1:19Then we did Cherry Falls that. Was fun.
- 1:21That was absurd. Tokyo Gore Police.
- 1:24That was fun. Yeah, but they're all disturbing
- 1:27in their own ways. That's true.
- 1:28And then we're going to cap this all off with The Texas Chainsaw
- 1:31Massacre. So excited about that.
- 1:33I am too. It's.
- 1:34Just it's time that we finally devote 2 hours to Franklin
- 1:37bowling raspberries. Oh my God, I can't wait for
- 1:40that. And I'm sorry for you guys to
- 1:42listen to that. Yeah.
- 1:44OK, so we're going to talk about the sadness.
- 1:46Yeah. Do you have anything you need to
- 1:47know? Yeah, this weekend we will have
- 1:50our Child's Play Chucky wrap up where we rank the franchise.
- 1:54Say goodbye to Chucky. Say goodbye to Chucky and look
- 1:57forward to text you. Say hi to the other face or Jeb
- 2:02a die. No.
- 2:04That he is named that in some movies.
- 2:06Some of them. Yeah, it's, it's super
- 2:08inconsistent. We're gonna get into that.
- 2:10We're gonna get to the bottom of it.
- 2:12Anyway, OK. I don't have a poll, you know, I
- 2:16got distracted. Yesterday was Valentine's Day.
- 2:18We're recording on the 15th and we were busy doing Valentine's
- 2:21Day shit. And I I'm sorry, I just.
- 2:23Let me know. Let me know if you want to see
- 2:26the video of Travis singing Paper Planes.
- 2:29By Mia. Third world democracy.
- 2:32He did that into a microphone in a room full of people out in
- 2:35public. Yeah, I had fun.
- 2:38That's why, you know that's all that counts.
- 2:41OK, all right, so with all that said and done, how about we get
- 2:46started on the sadness? How about we?
- 2:49OK, so I had to. I ran on sheets.
- 2:53OK, we usually have these prep sheets where we put all the
- 2:56information in. I forgot to print more, so here
- 2:59we are. I just scribbled on the back of
- 3:02one that already exists. I don't.
- 3:03Know I specifically reminded him.
- 3:06Yeah, I put in a reminder on my phone too.
- 3:07I guess I just like, swiped away from it without even thinking.
- 3:11What a fool. So I wrote everything on the
- 3:14back here and you know, I'm going to try and get it with a
- 3:17good flow. All right, I think we'll be fine
- 3:19here. All right.
- 3:21So The Sadness premiered January 22nd, 2021 in Taiwan.
- 3:28OK, I believe it was a Film Festival.
- 3:30I didn't see which one it was exactly, but it made its online
- 3:33premiere on Shutter, May 12th, 2022.
- 3:37OK. We watched it on Shutter and if
- 3:41you want to watch it right now, you can watch it on Shutter and
- 3:43I think AMC Plus. Yes, if you have shutter through
- 3:46AMC, well and they share a lot of the same catalog too I think.
- 3:50Hey dude, you can't watch everything from shutter on AMC
- 3:53plus but you can watch most things.
- 3:56It's how I understand it at least.
- 3:58I don't know, it's kind of confusing their whole setup.
- 4:01Yeah, I don't really know. OK starring Brenton Zoo as Jim,
- 4:07Regina Lee as Cat, Ying Ruchin as Molly and SU Chang Wang as
- 4:13businessman. OK, so neither of us got the
- 4:17right name for him in our notes. No.
- 4:19So I ended up naming him Madman. OK, he was asshole I almost
- 4:24literally the entire time in my notes like this.
- 4:27Fucking asshole. I, I started off calling him
- 4:29asshole, but then I was like, that's too easy madman because
- 4:34he he's mad now he's got the, the disease that makes you mad,
- 4:37I think. He was mad before he had the
- 4:39disease. He was, he was, he was having
- 4:40his incel rage moment, you know, he's, you know, and you could
- 4:44call him incel too. Yeah.
- 4:46I think he transcends that in this movie.
- 4:49So yeah, this is where we're going today, people.
- 4:52That's. Where we're going.
- 4:53All right, so it's time for our favorite game on the show,
- 4:56Budget or Buck Ted. Man, I'm going to say budget.
- 5:01Like it feels like there was a lot.
- 5:03There was a lot. There was a lot, so I don't have
- 5:07a figure, but based off of everything that I've seen, I'm
- 5:11going to go and say I'm guessing Buck Ted.
- 5:16OK. Yeah, it seemed like it wasn't a
- 5:18super high production. Well, Teddy over here.
- 5:21Yeah, Yeah. I mean it's modest budget I
- 5:24would assume, but I think that they they definitely had more
- 5:28than enough to get the job done. All right.
- 5:32I don't have an opening box office, but I do have a gross.
- 5:36The Movie. The movie, yes, the movie is
- 5:39very, very, very gross, but the gross financially was $430,000.
- 5:46OK, OK. That's not bad for like maybe
- 5:49they go straight to streaming basically.
- 5:51And also during the pandemic, yeah, that was like a huge yeah.
- 5:56Like, movies really struggled back then, if I remember
- 6:00correctly. So here's a funny thing.
- 6:02This movie doesn't have any tag lines, so we're we've got a work
- 6:07cut out for us at the end of this episode.
- 6:09We gotta come up with something. They let the title speak for
- 6:12itself. They really did like.
- 6:13Yeah. I just, I would have done like
- 6:16the little teardrop emoji. Were you smiling too?
- 6:20Like the smile teardrop? Yeah, that's what I've been
- 6:22using that when I've been referring to this movie lately.
- 6:25OK, so yeah, 5.6 IMDb score for the set.
- 6:29All right, so I've got 3 movies from 2021.
- 6:32OK. I noticed an interesting kind of
- 6:35little theme that happened this year.
- 6:38So we have movies from franchises that are sequels, but
- 6:43they're just kind of not really connected to the main stories.
- 6:47So they're like side cools. Yeah, it's one of them.
- 6:51Texas Chainsaw. No.
- 6:52Oh. OK.
- 6:54Did that come out that year? No, I think that was 22.
- 6:56OK. Yeah, I know.
- 6:57I was right around that time. Yeah, yeah, that would be.
- 7:00I would count that. No, you're right.
- 7:05We're going to get into that shit because the the timeline of
- 7:07that series is so confusing. I I don't know if I would call
- 7:10that a side quote. I think that that was just
- 7:11another attempt at re doing the series.
- 7:14If you can make the timeline of the franchise make sense, I will
- 7:18like, I will applaud you. You will have earned like a
- 7:22Nobel Prize. I'm going to break it.
- 7:25I I believe in myself. It's a tall task, all right.
- 7:30Wrong Turn Release February 26, 2021.
- 7:35I don't have the budget for it, but the opening box office was
- 7:38$107,000 and the gross was 4 million dollars. 5.6 on IMDb.
- 7:45OK. Next up Spiral from the book of
- 7:48Saul that had premiere of May 14th, 2021.
- 7:56That was the. 1st movie we saw back in theaters post COVID.
- 7:59Yeah, it was a big event, you know, Will Smith is back, Will.
- 8:02Smith is back, baby. That's had a budget of $20
- 8:08million, an $8 million opening and a $40 million gross.
- 8:12So it actually did pretty good for it to be a COVID release.
- 8:15Yeah, COVID release and one that people try to say that they
- 8:18don't like. Yeah, I mean, it's not normal
- 8:20selling money because that shit usually went hard.
- 8:23And the final one, Paranormal Activity, next of Kin.
- 8:27So that one released October 29th, 2021.
- 8:32That one was straight to streaming, also straight to
- 8:33Paramount Plus. I really like that one because I
- 8:37had no clue how they were going to do a found footage film in an
- 8:40Amish community. Exactly.
- 8:43Yeah, it, it's impressive. It's pretty interesting and it's
- 8:46it definitely feels different than all the other ones.
- 8:49It's, but not in a, not in a bad way.
- 8:52No, not it's not found footage, it's they're making a
- 8:55documentary. Yeah, it's interesting.
- 8:57It's a different take, which is why I included it and this was
- 9:00so I don't have any financial information for that one, but
- 9:03the IMDb score was 5.3. So all these movies did pretty
- 9:07decently ratings wise and money wise, I guess.
- 9:11OK, so like I said, no tag lines, but let's do some fun
- 9:15facts, all right? We're going to make some fun out
- 9:17of this set. So they're fun and not sad.
- 9:21I think that they're fun. I don't like the way you said
- 9:24that. OK, so I've seen a lot of people
- 9:27already make comments about how this movie came about, where his
- 9:31inspiration came from. So I figured I would just get it
- 9:34from the man himself to see what he said.
- 9:36So in an interview, Online asked how he came up with the idea for
- 9:39this. He says.
- 9:41I was working as a staff writer for this entertainment company,
- 9:44writing scripts that may or may not get made.
- 9:45And this was before the pandemic, when being able to
- 9:48work from home was cool and attractive at the time.
- 9:50But then the pandemic happened. My boss was like, OK,
- 9:54Hollywood's closed. We can make a movie right now,
- 9:56and we won't have any competition.
- 9:58But we need to release it soon. And then he says it has to be a
- 10:02virus or zombie movie. I thought, I don't want to write
- 10:05a zombie movie that's boring. It's all been done to death.
- 10:08What's left to say with that? So I started thinking about ways
- 10:11to push the envelope without pushing the small budget.
- 10:13There's a small budget part, OK. And I thought, what if we make
- 10:18them really cruel and really sadistic?
- 10:20They're sadists. They take pleasure in harming
- 10:23other people. This made me think of a comic
- 10:25from years ago called Crossed. I took a look at those comics
- 10:30and I was like, this is cool, but this isn't quite right
- 10:32because these characters are still being treated like
- 10:35zombies. They're not.
- 10:36They're not talking enough. They're not expressing
- 10:38themselves enough. So I tried to give myself
- 10:41memorable villains to work with and some ideas, but what you
- 10:45need is that one auxiliary idea that connects it all together.
- 10:50So that was one of my takeaways from this movie, like how I had
- 10:54an interesting take to the zombie genre approach, which
- 10:57we'll get into here shortly. OK, this is somebody gave a
- 11:03review that mentioned that comic book, so it's interesting.
- 11:07Yeah, which is why I was like, let's get this out of the way.
- 11:10Yeah. So it is inspired by that.
- 11:13Yeah. So anytime he was on set, he
- 11:17would have like, if he ever had pushback from people, like there
- 11:20were sometimes people like, hey, we need to tone this down a bit.
- 11:22He, in his own words, said he had to bulldoze over it, he
- 11:26said. You know what?
- 11:27We're going to make it worse. Yeah, he's like, I'm standing my
- 11:30ground. We have to make this shit
- 11:31violent. We have to make it vile.
- 11:34I like to imagine it's like in the bad place, like where every
- 11:37time you have an objection, it just gets a little worse.
- 11:40Like they're like, we, we can't do that.
- 11:42And he's like, you know what? We're gonna do it harder.
- 11:43I'm gonna do it even harder now. Yeah.
- 11:46What does that mean? So it's interesting this is
- 11:50actually his directorial debut. Oh wow.
- 11:53Yeah, he had a background in animation.
- 11:55So you know that one scene where he is like flipping through the
- 11:59TV stations and he stumbles up on a cartoon?
- 12:02He did that. OK, I was wondering because I
- 12:06was like, I don't feel like this is a real cartoon, but maybe it
- 12:08is. Yeah, it, it's got that.
- 12:11It's got that old school and feel to it, but I can spot the
- 12:17newness of like the way it's rigged on like animation,
- 12:22puppetry type things. Like it's, I'd have to get into
- 12:26some details about how it works. But yeah, it's interesting.
- 12:29But it's cool to see somebody go from like an animation
- 12:31background and then to like a movie like this.
- 12:34But the way that happened was he wrote the script, gave it to his
- 12:38boss, they shopped it around and they could not find a director
- 12:42for the price that they wanted. So they're like, OK, can you do
- 12:44it? And he's like, yeah, I can do
- 12:45it, but. Put me in couch.
- 12:49If I'm going to do, it's either going to go one or two ways way
- 12:52#1 I'm going to phone it in, I'm going to delegate all the work
- 12:56to everybody else. I'm just not really going to
- 12:58like care about it or #2 I make it my entire life and I can go
- 13:03all in on it. But that means I have to have
- 13:06final cut and I have to have final say on the project.
- 13:09And the guy was like, well I don't want you to half ass it,
- 13:11so you're gonna get final cut, I guess.
- 13:14What a bargaining strategy. Yeah, he's in a.
- 13:18He's like, I'm not trying to be a director, but if I'm being
- 13:21thrust into this, I'm. I'm doing it my way.
- 13:23Yeah, like I have nothing to lose in this moment.
- 13:25I respect that. This isn't the trajectory I was
- 13:27going. Swing for the fences, man.
- 13:29It's pretty neat too. It was interesting too, reading
- 13:32in the interview. He was like, they're like, so
- 13:34what'd you like? Were you surprised to see like
- 13:36made the festival rounds and like had success?
- 13:37He's like, look, I really don't want to to my own horn, but like
- 13:40whenever I put it together, I was like, this is fucking
- 13:42awesome. I respect.
- 13:44Him more and more, this guy. Yeah, he's like, I, I respect
- 13:48that. He's like, I don't want to sound
- 13:50like I love myself, but like it was pretty.
- 13:52Fucking you know what? Yeah, I'm pretty awesome.
- 13:54His quote was I believe people are going to shit their pants.
- 13:59That's what he said about this and I think that he is correct
- 14:03because everybody that I've talked with about this movie, I
- 14:07think that's been their reaction and shooting in some form or
- 14:12fashion. All right, so that's it for the
- 14:14fun facts that I got. So I think that means we can go
- 14:18on into our good, bad, ugly and absurd.
- 14:20So Jesse, what did you like? I thought all of the
- 14:23performances were very strong. Which thing need to be for a
- 14:26movie like this? You have to be willing, like
- 14:28just the way the director was willing to take it to extremes.
- 14:31The the actors needed to be willing to go that far, too.
- 14:34Yeah, absolutely. And I think that everybody did a
- 14:36very good job with it. Even the performances that I
- 14:40find upsetting like that means they did their job.
- 14:43Exactly, Yeah. I think the God it there were so
- 14:48many times like I knew exactly what was going to happen, but
- 14:51every single time it still like had me squirt and this is the
- 14:54first time watching it. I was like, Nope, I don't like
- 14:56where this is going. I know it's going to happen.
- 14:58I don't want to see it. Like when we got to that, I've
- 15:00all seen the first time we watched, I went no, no, no, no.
- 15:04This movie's like we're doing all the things the worst
- 15:07possible way you can imagine it, and as soon as you see that,
- 15:09you're like, Oh no, oh God, it's happening.
- 15:11I think there's something so brilliant about that too.
- 15:14Where? Oh, Talia's out there hitting
- 15:17the button and she's. I think she might be sad about
- 15:19this movie still too. I I think there's something so
- 15:22brilliant about this where the whole point is this virus like
- 15:26triggers people's like darkest ideas and thoughts that they can
- 15:30have. And then like you're sitting
- 15:32there going, wow, that's crazy that people could think to do
- 15:34that. But also the entire time you're
- 15:36watching it, you're like, is he gonna?
- 15:38And then you're like, oh, OK, cool.
- 15:41I have the same limbic disease, maybe, Yeah.
- 15:44It's that's one of my favorite things from this movie too, is
- 15:48how they did that. Like they it's almost like the
- 15:5128 Days Later rage virus type. Yeah, except you're like, I
- 15:55think there's something so terrifying too about like you
- 15:58don't get like a bliss from it. Like you're not deactivated.
- 16:02You're you're kind of like trapped in your mind and you're
- 16:05held hostage to this like addiction.
- 16:07And I think that's part of what makes Jim's whole thing so sad
- 16:10is that he's like fighting it. And you're really like, OK,
- 16:12cool, maybe there's a chance to fight off.
- 16:15Yeah, fight this off. And then he says he wants to cut
- 16:18cats tits off. And then you're like, Oh, yeah,
- 16:20OK. Like, way to ruin a sweet
- 16:22message there man. Yeah, you should blew it.
- 16:25Blew it at the at the the 10 yard line, man.
- 16:29So yeah, I just all around like that.
- 16:32As uncomfortable as this movie, it makes me, and as much as it
- 16:36bums me the fuck out, it's incredible.
- 16:40Yeah, it's a big bummer and I feel really bad for making
- 16:45people who like to watch along with this show.
- 16:48I'm sorry if I bummed you out with this pic, but.
- 16:51Yeah, I'm sorry that Travis made you watch back-to-back Tokyo
- 16:55Gore police. And then the sadness.
- 16:59I'm not sorry about Tokyo Gore Police.
- 17:01I still apologize for that chair, but this right here, I
- 17:04think I'll. Never apologize for the chair.
- 17:07I think that this is a movie that a lot of people do need to
- 17:10see because I really do think it's a, it's a really, really
- 17:13fucking good movie. It's one of those movies that,
- 17:15yeah, it'll ruin your day. It's a day ruiner, but it's
- 17:19going to be one of those ones that I don't think people will
- 17:21regret watching. And I also feel like it's one of
- 17:24those like it, it addresses real life rhetoric without like
- 17:29satirizing it or making it like feel over the top or anything,
- 17:35you know, like that whole like, oh, well, this pandemic is just
- 17:38a hoax. It's just, it's an election
- 17:40year. Of course we're not going to
- 17:40shut things down and ruin the economy.
- 17:42Why would they do that? Oh, people don't listen to
- 17:44public health officials anymore. And then we got the fucking
- 17:47asshole on the train, like. Men, that was a thing because we
- 17:53had all of these movies before where it's like, hey, people
- 17:56aren't gonna be stupid during a big event like this.
- 18:00People are gonna do the things that will protect them.
- 18:03And then we went and experienced that and that made us be able to
- 18:07come out on the other end and be like, make these movies where
- 18:09like, oh, we know people are going to ignore shit now.
- 18:13In February of 2025, living in America, I no longer have any
- 18:17doubt to people's lack of compassion for one another.
- 18:20Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 18:23And you know, I think it's really interesting.
- 18:25I feel like this movie kind of took some of that and they
- 18:28really like harnessed it in this.
- 18:31What if, what if our current administration actually has this
- 18:37virus? It just like it doesn't turn.
- 18:39Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like political violence.
- 18:44I'm gonna be zooming in, zooming and enhancing and squinting to
- 18:47see if I see any like, tears rolling down their face.
- 18:52OK. OK.
- 18:53I guess like another thing about that is I know a lot of
- 18:57countries handled the approach to COVID and this movie is so
- 19:01heavily inspired by COVID, like it wears it on its sleeve.
- 19:04Yeah, it doesn't try and hide that at all.
- 19:07Yeah. So this was Taiwanese, I think
- 19:10it was. I've seen it listed as
- 19:13Taiwanese, but like when the president is doing an address.
- 19:16Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which that confused me.
- 19:19It might be set there, but it might be a Taiwanese film.
- 19:21I'm not entirely sure the director is and the writer is
- 19:26Canadian, so I don't understand how he went and made this film
- 19:32over there. It may have been because of the
- 19:34pandemic restrictions and stuff, but I I feel like he took like
- 19:39an approach, like a North American approach to people's
- 19:42reaction to it. I don't know if it was this bad
- 19:44over there because I don't know how like they handled it over in
- 19:46Taiwan. Yeah, I feel like I have more
- 19:49faith in them generally, you know?
- 19:51Yeah, but also like how much of that is just like what we're
- 19:54given through media propaganda as well?
- 19:56That's true, yeah. You know, there's a lot of like
- 19:58question marks about that type of.
- 19:59Stuff. Yeah, it's, you know, and it's
- 20:02funny, this is a slight tangent, but like, that's the whole
- 20:05reason that the Spanish flu got called the Spanish flu because
- 20:08every country was dealing with it, but nobody wanted to admit
- 20:10that they were fighting it because they didn't want to look
- 20:12weak in the midst of World War One.
- 20:15And finally, it was some Spanish reporters.
- 20:17They're like, hey, there's. Some.
- 20:19Shit, yeah, hey, this is going on.
- 20:20And I was like, Spain did it, they did it, Spain started it.
- 20:23And I just think that's so interesting that even now, over
- 20:27100 year late, 100 years later, we still call it the Spanish
- 20:30flu. And it was really just a massive
- 20:33propaganda that got it named that way.
- 20:35At least this time around, we know where it came from.
- 20:38Yeah, we all pointed fingers at China like, hey guys.
- 20:41Yeah, but yeah. But like, we, you know, we, I
- 20:45don't know it, like diseases are also just going to kind of
- 20:48happen, just, you know what I mean?
- 20:49Like, yeah, I mean, like, I'm not going to blame a country.
- 20:52Like they didn't release a weapon.
- 20:54Like it's not it. Ask RFK about that.
- 20:58Shit, I know actually. How about how about not?
- 21:01I will go ask one of our elementary school nieces and
- 21:05nephews and they can probably tell us more about viruses.
- 21:07I think, yeah, I think we'll have a much more adult
- 21:09conversation about it in that way.
- 21:12OK. Do you got any other good things
- 21:14to say? I mean, lots of good things, but
- 21:16you know, I'll pepper them out as we talk about the movie.
- 21:18OK, so the my favorite take on the zombie thing with this here
- 21:24is it reminded me of Return of the Living Dead, which the big
- 21:29break in that movie with the zombie genre was that they feel
- 21:34pain. My favorite thing about this was
- 21:37they feel emotional pain and it's like the sadness, I feel
- 21:42like it comes, the name comes from like they shed that tear
- 21:46because like the guy at the end of the movie, the virologist
- 21:49says they have guilt for these things.
- 21:52They fully understand what they're doing.
- 21:53They can't control themselves. So like they're crying because
- 21:57like they're doing these horrible things.
- 21:59And I think like you see that in other ways too, like the ones
- 22:02that have like attached to other emotions as well, like Molly,
- 22:06where she talks about not fitting in and like because
- 22:09we're already sympathetic to Molly, right?
- 22:11Like when you get her whole deal right from the get go and she
- 22:15sits down and she's clinging the cat like we know who this person
- 22:18is. And not only that, right out the
- 22:20gate, she gets an umbrella to the act.
- 22:22Yeah, like it happens almost immediately.
- 22:24And then her being like, I've never fit in before.
- 22:27And then kind of you're like, good.
- 22:29Like, it's almost a good for her moment.
- 22:32Yeah, but not really. Yeah.
- 22:35And then we also see, like with the fucking asshole, like, he
- 22:38doesn't really feel bad about it because this is just who he is
- 22:41as a person. And he he has an excuse for no
- 22:44restrictions. Now he was gonna snap in some
- 22:47other form or fashion. He was on the brink of it right
- 22:49there on that train that. Day Yeah, If I found out that he
- 22:52hadn't raped before the virus, I would be surprised.
- 22:55Yeah, exactly. Yeah, so I mean, now like that
- 22:58was such a huge thing for me. I feel like that gives this
- 23:00movie so much more weight. Like it it makes the actions and
- 23:05all of the things that happened that much more meaningful.
- 23:08And it's it's really cool. Yeah, cuz like that's the thing
- 23:11with other like zombie and virus movies, you're like, well at
- 23:13least they like they don't know what they're doing.
- 23:15Yeah, I mean, and like, it's not, this isn't like cookie
- 23:17cutter shit, you know, like they actually did something
- 23:20different. And for a genre that has had so
- 23:24many takes and iterations, it's hard to innovate.
- 23:27Something like that, yeah. It's hard to make it fresh.
- 23:30And I don't really know if we can give him too much credit for
- 23:32this because it is based off of the comic cross.
- 23:35So maybe, you know, I should be giving them credit for coming up
- 23:38with that idea. I think that that's the thing in
- 23:39that. I feel like we probably need to
- 23:40check that comic out. Sounds.
- 23:42Like another thing about this movie is this is at we're horror
- 23:47junkies here. If you're a part of the show,
- 23:48you love horror movies. You get them all ways you can as
- 23:53often as you can. And we all know that it's hard
- 23:55to find that movie that has that reaction for you.
- 23:59We're all chasing the dragon. We all want to be scared.
- 24:02And this was one of those movies that we watched it for the first
- 24:05time last year during our October screen screen, and it
- 24:10just got a reaction. I got goosebumps watching it.
- 24:12It made me so unnerved. It's one that like, sticks with
- 24:17you. Yeah, like right out the game
- 24:19when we get the old woman in the cafe.
- 24:22I'm not as bothered by her as you are.
- 24:25Dude, that whole scene of how she her whole demeanor and when
- 24:29she takes the fucking basket of like, I mean, that's.
- 24:32Upsetting, but like, I don't know, it's that's not the stand
- 24:35out part of the movie for me. That like, I didn't even know
- 24:39about this movie, but I saw still images of that woman
- 24:43leading up to like the release or like after the release when
- 24:45people were talking about it, like because people were just
- 24:47sharing that picture of her and it fucking got me.
- 24:52It's so creepy to me. It is so you know, but I'm just
- 24:56saying this movie creeped me out.
- 24:57And not only heard, just like in all the other ways, like the
- 24:59businessman, he's so fucking unnerving.
- 25:02He is a great horror villain, a key.
- 25:05He's creepy. He was already creepy to begin
- 25:07with, but then when he gets the virus, he becomes like a fucking
- 25:09monster. And you know, that's about,
- 25:12we've kind of touched all the other bases of all the other
- 25:15things that I've liked about this movie.
- 25:17So how about we talk about some bad stuff?
- 25:20OK, I feel like there is a I'm trying to figure out a way to
- 25:27say this that doesn't sound weird.
- 25:31I feel like there was very little nuance to the depravity
- 25:35that was it's. Just rape and stomp.
- 25:37Yeah, rape and torture. I prefer rape and stomp.
- 25:42That almost sounds like a fucked up music.
- 25:44I'm gonna take that clip out of context.
- 25:46Don't. That's gonna play on the Netflix
- 25:49documentary. Yeah, with that picture.
- 25:52Jesse posted a picture of me last night and it's gonna be I.
- 25:55Said This is the picture that they're gonna show in Part 1 of
- 25:57the Netflix docu series When I'm Murdered and they're trying to
- 26:00paint Travis. This is a very obvious like
- 26:03killer. He talked about rape and stomp.
- 26:07He said he prefers it. Yeah, he likes that name a lot
- 26:10more. Yeah, I just, and I talk about
- 26:16this a lot in movies that like, sometimes I feel like rape is
- 26:20like overused as like, great, here's the worst thing that
- 26:23we're going to do and we're just going to use this as a shortcut.
- 26:27And I do believe that it would be a part of this virus for
- 26:31sure, you know, But I also feel like I don't know it.
- 26:37It very quickly devolved into blood orgies at the hospital.
- 26:41Yeah. Oh, I think I read about that.
- 26:43They hired like a bunch of I guess Taiwanese porn actors.
- 26:47I mean, that makes sense. Yeah, cuz those, those are
- 26:49professional screen fuckers. You know what?
- 26:51I mean, yeah, you could tell that they've.
- 26:53They knew the moves they've done.
- 26:55That. Yeah, they knew how to make it,
- 26:56how to make it interesting for the camera, Yeah.
- 27:00They they saw it. So yeah, I, I think like and
- 27:04that's maybe like it does get kind of one note a little bit.
- 27:07Yeah, I can get that. Like, you do want to, when this
- 27:11movie descends into pure chaos, you do want it to be that.
- 27:15But, you know, there are more than two ways that that can go
- 27:18down, you know? Yeah, I was, and I thought about
- 27:21it the second time. I'm really grateful that we
- 27:24didn't have them, like, attacking pets because like,
- 27:28that, my mind went there. I was like, you know, like I
- 27:30know that that shit's happening here, like everything, the worst
- 27:34things. So they didn't.
- 27:35They could have taken it further, but they at least
- 27:37didn't. Yeah, and they only alluded to
- 27:39stuff with that could have happened to the babies.
- 27:42Yeah, and and. It was still really fucked up
- 27:44using the babies as test subjects like that and then
- 27:46dumping them in the hazmat bin. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:50Really, truly heinous stuff was off screen.
- 27:53I feel like it was done as tastefully as you could do
- 27:55those. Things, yeah.
- 27:57But still it's not tasteful. So yeah.
- 28:00Yeah, my bad thing with this. I like the no I like the dual
- 28:08stories that we have of Jim and Cat.
- 28:11I like but I feel like Jim had the short end of the stick on
- 28:15his his is him just like travelling and I feel like he
- 28:19could have had more encounters. He had that one where he, like,
- 28:22stopped the teens with the guy that was tied to the pole, but
- 28:27Cat and Molly had their big they had a big bad following them the
- 28:31entire time. Yeah, and that guy's so fucking
- 28:34creepy. I just have to say it over and
- 28:35over again. Every time he comes up on
- 28:37screen, especially the one that gets me the most is when he pops
- 28:40up at the hospital behind the cop.
- 28:44You just see him standing on the other side of the door and he
- 28:46makes eye contact with her. Yeah it's so fucking creepy but
- 28:52I wish he had one because like he almost becomes forgotten at a
- 28:56certain point whenever he starts to like go in and out.
- 28:59We don't even really see the exact moment that he gets
- 29:01infected. I wish we'd had that kind of
- 29:03like a moment so that we, we as the audience have like that oh
- 29:07shit feeling. And it's not just like him
- 29:09having visions on the phone. Like I wish we could have seen
- 29:12it that way. We could have started looking
- 29:13for the signs or. Yeah, it would have been cool.
- 29:15And to have kind of like what you were saying before, like see
- 29:18more of that fight, because we saw then that he was putting up
- 29:21a fight. Yeah, like he was having
- 29:23dilution of like a mannequin head and like a little pond or.
- 29:27Whatever. Yeah.
- 29:27That way we have like that, that sense of like, is there hope to
- 29:31fight off this virus? Yeah, That was because like with
- 29:33her, we're like, is she immune? This virologist, he's, he's kind
- 29:38of given us hope that there's an immunity here.
- 29:40And then with him it's like, oh, you can maybe also resist.
- 29:43You know if you. Really try, but yeah, we just.
- 29:46Didn't I? I kind of like that We do have
- 29:47like the bleak ending. I do too, and bleak endings can
- 29:50be bummers, but like, this movie needed to have a yeah OK, so
- 29:56ugly. OK, so there's a lot of fucking
- 30:00ugly, the depths of human depravity, for one, the man on
- 30:06the train, like even before he's infected, Like I said, this is
- 30:09one of those things. And we were talking about this
- 30:10at dinner last night. We got kind of talking about
- 30:13those things that like, people like to brush off as like, oh,
- 30:17they don't mean any harm by it. But it's like that kind of stuff
- 30:19builds up and it becomes like you, you have to nip that stuff
- 30:24in the bud early. So like, first of all, he's
- 30:27already like the most annoying kind of person.
- 30:29When you see a person reading and you ask them a million
- 30:31questions about what they're reading, don't do that.
- 30:33That's annoying. That's like talking over the
- 30:35movie and asking what's happening in the movie.
- 30:36That shit drives me crazy too. Yeah, like, and I used to, this
- 30:39used to happen to me all the time at an old job of mine where
- 30:43I would try and read on my lunch break and somebody would sit
- 30:44down next to me and, like, try and talk to me about the book
- 30:46I'm reading. I'm like, I can't tell you about
- 30:47the book I'm reading because I can't read it because you're
- 30:49talking to me and I can't listen to you and read my book at the
- 30:52same time. Dude that happens to me too.
- 30:53I'll be on my break and I'm like clearly watching a video on my
- 30:57phone. I'm holding it horizontally.
- 30:59Who fucking browse this horizontally?
- 31:01Sociopaths. And I had people walking in
- 31:03like, hey, Travis, what are you doing?
- 31:05I'm like, I'm fucking watching the video here.
- 31:07I've got earbuds in. I'm not supposed to be hearing
- 31:09you right now. Yeah, so it it that was already
- 31:12annoying. And then him just say like, I
- 31:14think you're very pretty. And she was like, you're making
- 31:19me uncomfortable. Like she she did it the right.
- 31:22Like she was very firm the first time where she was like she.
- 31:24Was polite. Yeah, she was.
- 31:25Like, I appreciate that you're being friendly, but I would like
- 31:28to just read my book, please. Yeah.
- 31:30That's totally fine. She doesn't say about him any
- 31:33more than that she was kinder than she had to be to a complete
- 31:36stranger. He should have gotten it, Yeah.
- 31:38He was just not taking the. Hint and then him say like, OK,
- 31:41but I think you're really pretty and she's like, OK, you're
- 31:44making me uncomfortable now. And he like has a piss poor
- 31:50fucking reaction. Like what is she supposed to do?
- 31:52Like suck your Dick just because she you called her pretty?
- 31:54That's not how this works. Women are not like a vending
- 31:58machine where you put in a compliment and you get to get
- 32:01off from it. Like that's not how that works.
- 32:04I've heard so many people have this stupid conversation like
- 32:07I've I've had some people like then to be like oh God, like
- 32:10girls just don't fucking care. Like they just want to like
- 32:12these asshole dudes. I mean no, no, just read the
- 32:15fucking room. If they don't want you, like
- 32:16just fucking move on. I'm like, it wants to be like,
- 32:20like it's not fun to go out in public and you have a person
- 32:24compliment you and you have to like try and be like, OK, what
- 32:27is the reaction I have to have so that way I'm not violently
- 32:29attacked. You know what I mean?
- 32:31Like it's exhausting to constantly be on like that.
- 32:34And like also the fact that, like, some people will just
- 32:37encourage each other and be like, yeah, catcaller just
- 32:39compliments. Like no, it is a form of
- 32:41harassment and violence. It's it makes it's
- 32:43uncomfortable. Yeah, and like in this is one of
- 32:46those things, and you've always been very sympathetic to it.
- 32:48But unfortunately, you had an experience at the bar where a
- 32:51woman was doing that to you. And you're like, Oh my God, is
- 32:53this just life for you? Yeah, I remember asking, is this
- 32:57what it feels like to be a woman?
- 32:58That fucking sucks. Yeah.
- 32:59Ruined my night. Yeah.
- 33:01She was so fucking drunk. Yeah.
- 33:02Yeah. And it's not like she was doing
- 33:04anything that like you could like be like arrest her like,
- 33:09but like it's there's a there's an underlying threat of violence
- 33:13there. And it's just one of those
- 33:15things that like it fucking sucks.
- 33:16So and that's pre virus. And then there's one other thing
- 33:19that I'm going to tell. I mean, obviously, like
- 33:21everything they do in this movie is ugly, but there's 1A special
- 33:24moment that like there is a young girl, like still has
- 33:28braces on, can't be older than like 14 or 15 on the train.
- 33:31And we see her briefly being licked by a man when everything
- 33:37goes haywire. And then after everybody clears
- 33:39off the train at the stop, she's there, her clothes are tattered
- 33:42and she's clearly infected. And there's just something so
- 33:45fucking heartbreaking about it. And that's really as young as
- 33:47they is. She the one that's the last one
- 33:49standing with the businessman. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:52And that was just like, they don't they don't go any younger
- 33:56with a lot of the violence in this.
- 33:58And that one was enough. And it's like, OK, cool,
- 34:00nobody's safe from this. I mean, we do have the babies
- 34:04later, but we don't actively see that, at least I.
- 34:07Would hope that that's just an adult with braces because we see
- 34:10nudity with her. Yeah, but she, I'm sure that
- 34:13that actress herself is older, but I do think that the
- 34:16character was implied to be very young and she looks very young.
- 34:19Yeah, that's true. But also, like, I know from like
- 34:22casting that generally with stuff like that, yeah, it's
- 34:24going to be an older person who just favors, yeah, like a
- 34:28younger look. That's true.
- 34:29Yeah. OK.
- 34:31What's your ugly? Mine is I we kind of briefly
- 34:37talked about it earlier, but it just we going over the whole
- 34:41like at the beginning of the movie, they're like, oh, the
- 34:44virus is responsible for no deaths when they're like going
- 34:47on about the what the fuck is it called?
- 34:51Alvin. Alvin Virus.
- 34:53Yeah, like they Jim is watching YouTube videos.
- 34:58And I just say, like every time they called it Alvin, I heard
- 35:02what's his face from Alvin and the chipmunks going Alvin.
- 35:08What is his name? I can't remember, I'm just I'm
- 35:11just thinking of the live action one.
- 35:14The dude from My Name is Earl. Earl.
- 35:18Yeah, he's no like the actor. Jason something.
- 35:22Yeah, Jason, something. That's because he does.
- 35:25He's a pro skater, you know, He's cool.
- 35:29He's a cool guy. OK, anyway.
- 35:34I just hated that it just brought back the whole thing of
- 35:37COVID and how they were like deniers.
- 35:39And like, I remember when it first came out and whenever I
- 35:44was at work, one of no longer with the company, but like went
- 35:48downstairs to address the team. It's like, hey, listen, this is
- 35:51nothing. It's just all being born out of
- 35:54proportion. We're going to be fine.
- 35:55Just don't even worry about it. And it's just like, dude, like,
- 36:00no, listen to the fucking professionals.
- 36:03It like, and that was one of those things that like before it
- 36:05really like hit us with the impact.
- 36:07I was like, I feel like maybe this is being blown out of
- 36:08proportion. And once I saw it and I was
- 36:10like, oh shit, no, this isn't being like, we saw people die
- 36:14from it, you know, like, and God, I had it.
- 36:19And that was I. There was a point where we were
- 36:23strongly considering going to the ER because I had such a high
- 36:26fever and couldn't get it down you.
- 36:28Also have asthma, so. You.
- 36:29Yeah, and I also couldn't breathe.
- 36:31Yeah, yeah, you were not. You're not the ideal candidate.
- 36:34Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK, so let's do some absurd
- 36:37stuff. OK, so there's one point when
- 36:42they're running out of the train, they're in like the
- 36:44underground, like subway station or whatever, and the asshole,
- 36:47like, reaches out to get the axe from the thing and he smashes
- 36:52the glass. But clearly the prop thing
- 36:54wasn't latched shut or like, yeah.
- 36:56And his arm is, like, caught in the door.
- 36:58The actor did such a good job. He didn't break at all.
- 37:01They didn't lose the take. But like I saw that door caught
- 37:05on his hand and he just ran with it and he still pulled the axe
- 37:09fell through the window portion. Good for him.
- 37:11I didn't catch that. Yeah.
- 37:12Like, I saw it and I was like, fuck, it's just like, what are
- 37:16those funny little moments like you kind of need in a movie like
- 37:20this? So I'm glad it made the final
- 37:22cut. Is that your only?
- 37:27Yeah, that's, that's my, that's what I mean absurd.
- 37:30Also, I guess we could also talk about Mr. Lynn because he's like
- 37:33a typical neighbor type. He's the he's the virus dinar.
- 37:36And he's like, I'm going to give you some basil.
- 37:38And then of course, he's the one that comes in later and attacks
- 37:40Jim. Yeah, he seemed like a cool guy.
- 37:42He. Seemed like he would have been a
- 37:43cool enough neighbor, one that you don't want to talk to you
- 37:45about anything too deep. No, just like a very like
- 37:50baseline conversation with them. Just like, hey, how you doing,
- 37:53Jen? Yeah.
- 37:54Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK, my absurds at the beginning
- 37:58we see Jim pick up a pastry and I am assuming hot sauce and he
- 38:04just fucking jams hot sauce in this pastry and I don't really
- 38:07it's. Pastry.
- 38:07I think it's a sandwich. I don't really think that makes
- 38:11it better. Putting hot sauce on a sandwich
- 38:13sounds disgusting. I think it depends on the type
- 38:16of sandwich, but I've done it. It looked like a pastry.
- 38:20You think that every time. Well, because it looks like a
- 38:23pastry. The other thing is, so we have
- 38:28the guy, he works the train station.
- 38:31He kind of becomes part of the crew whenever Molly and Cat make
- 38:35it out of the train station and she has like hand over the
- 38:38phone. And his phone background is
- 38:39Hintai. Yeah.
- 38:41It's so funny. Can I add to the absurd that guy
- 38:44getting punched in the face over?
- 38:46Multiple times. I like that one nurse.
- 38:48He's like. What about me?
- 38:49And she she like, barely looks like she goes.
- 38:50It's not broken. Is she fine?
- 38:52Yeah. She's like, I'm going to go take
- 38:53care of the woman who lost. Her eye, yeah.
- 38:55And he's so upset. I called him Gate Guy.
- 38:59OK. This is really was in my nose.
- 39:02He looks like Pat Pat Noswell to me.
- 39:04Businessman looks like Jim Leahy to me.
- 39:06He also had like, he had mannerisms too, like, you know,
- 39:10like if he was like drunk acting, I could see him.
- 39:12Being Jim Leahy, see him running around with a plastic bag around
- 39:15his ears. Brand new.
- 39:19So yeah, those are my absurd moments.
- 39:20OK. All right, so let's rate.
- 39:23Dude, it's a hard watch but it's a very good movie.
- 39:26I'm gonna give it an 8.5. Yeah, I'm giving it a nine.
- 39:29This movie fucking rocks man. It will ruin your day but God
- 39:33damn it fucking hits like it. It creeps you out.
- 39:36And if you wanna be creeped out, I highly recommend watching it.
- 39:38All right, so starting average of 8.75.
- 39:41Hell yeah. All right, let's get into it.
- 39:44We started off with a couple in bed and they're cute and
- 39:47cuddling and she said she's got I get ready.
- 39:49She has a meeting. He's like play hooky and she's
- 39:51like I can it's an important meeting.
- 39:53She goes. Besides, we have our trip next
- 39:54week and he's like I'm actually he's.
- 39:56Like what? Trip.
- 39:57I'm gonna start a fight right now.
- 40:01That's that's what I'm about to do.
- 40:03Yeah, so like his whole thing, he forgot.
- 40:06He forgot that they were doing a trip.
- 40:07He's like, oh shit, I've got a job coming up next week.
- 40:10And you know, I can't really say no to this job.
- 40:12I need the work. He says it's a German ad agency.
- 40:15Like that should matter. Like, do Germans pay more for
- 40:18their ads? I don't.
- 40:19Know I need to know I I really need what's are.
- 40:22Those the best clients to get. I I want more information.
- 40:26People that work in the ad world, please let us know.
- 40:29Is that what it is? Is he like an ad advertising
- 40:32guy? I think he's a photographer, OK.
- 40:34He's either a photographer or like a videographer, is the
- 40:37impression. I got videographer vibes from
- 40:38him. Yeah, that's what I thought.
- 40:39I thought he was like doing like an ad for them or something.
- 40:42And she is frustrated because she only gets 10 vacation days a
- 40:45year. It was really hard for her to
- 40:46book off the time. They really needed a chance to
- 40:49go away together. And she also wanted to get a
- 40:50tan. And he said you can get a tan on
- 40:52the roof. And she was like, cool, not
- 40:53helping your situation. Yeah, she.
- 40:55Storms off and goes 60. Hours and then he like has to
- 40:58the door he goes. Are you gonna eat the what was
- 41:00it like a bowel bun I think is what it's called.
- 41:02I don't know, it's whatever. The food I was talking about
- 41:05earlier is the pastry maybe? And she's just like, you can
- 41:08have it. And it's like, that's one of
- 41:10those, like, when a couple has been together long enough and
- 41:12neither of them wants to, like, fully break, but they also need
- 41:16to, like, melt the ice. Yeah.
- 41:19And like, and he does apologize a little bit, but also he's
- 41:22like, I'm hungry. Maybe we'll feel better if I'm
- 41:24not hungry. He's like, we're moving on.
- 41:25I'm eating that sandwich. Yeah, Which is the hot sauce.
- 41:28Yeah. So he goes in there, got the
- 41:31cool Nintendo Switch combo. He's got the pink and the green.
- 41:34Joy cons dig it. Yeah, he gets a little sandwich.
- 41:38God, I so wish that the joy con prices had ever gone down.
- 41:42Yeah, we could have gotten those.
- 41:43I refuse to buy brand new. No.
- 41:45Fully priced. One not gonna die.
- 41:47Yeah, well, not They're gonna drift.
- 41:48Yeah, the fucking they're supposed to fix that and switch
- 41:52to to better, I hope. But anyways, he he.
- 41:55The most thing called the switch to the Switcher Rooney.
- 41:58Switcher Rooney Yeah, Jesse, I'm sorry.
- 42:01They would love you over there. And then send them because they
- 42:03are terrible at naming the consoles.
- 42:05That sounds stupid. We're doing it, yeah.
- 42:08All right, so he's besides, he's gonna pull up some YouTube
- 42:12videos and there's coverage of the Alvin virus.
- 42:17Yeah, almost. Call it Alan.
- 42:19Alan. Virus.
- 42:19Yeah. So I like the virologist.
- 42:22He's the one that we're gonna end up seeing later, like he's
- 42:24been trying to tell people. Yeah.
- 42:25Shit, I didn't make that connection.
- 42:27Yeah, he's breaking it down. Yeah, he's breaking it down.
- 42:30And first of all, I love him like struggling to get the like
- 42:33iPad out because this he's, you know, he's like a science guy.
- 42:37He's not a presenter. He was just like, no, look at
- 42:40my, look at my charts. He said that like there's, I
- 42:43didn't write down all of the medical jargon, but basically
- 42:47the strain of this particular mutation is the same as like the
- 42:50one in rabies. And that ends up being important
- 42:53later because rabies like attacks, like irrational
- 42:55thinking. If you've never read a
- 42:57description of what happens when you, like, show it, start
- 43:01showing active symptoms of rabies, look it up.
- 43:04It'll be a fun double feature. Bummer of a day after watching
- 43:08this movie. Yeah, except that's real.
- 43:10Yeah, like that's real life. Like I've seen videos of people
- 43:13afraid of water trying to drink it on rabies.
- 43:16It's sad. He goes outside like, and
- 43:20they're talking about like, oh, it's an election year.
- 43:22It's awfully convenient that suddenly there's this virus
- 43:25happening. Whoever.
- 43:26Suspicious. The guy that Oh, no, nevermind.
- 43:30Yeah, this. I'm, I'm moving on over to Lynn.
- 43:33Accidentally. But so Jim goes outside for a
- 43:35second. He just, like, stares around the
- 43:37little city. I feel like the the
- 43:42infrastructure of this area kind of adds to the tension for me.
- 43:46Yeah, because we have these towering buildings and people on
- 43:48top of each other. And like in an event like this,
- 43:50that would make me so fucking nervous.
- 43:52I would be super paranoid, like, yeah, not only like the
- 43:56closeness for your contagion to pass, but also like there are so
- 44:00many options for sneak attacks. Yeah, we'll see you here in a
- 44:03minute. Yeah, yeah.
- 44:05But he goes outside and he walks over to the right, and he sees
- 44:10the old lady standing. On I don't think it's the old
- 44:13lady. I think it is.
- 44:14No, because when they turn around there's like blood all
- 44:16down the front of their shirt and the old lady later and the
- 44:19cafe doesn't have blood. Maybe she changed.
- 44:22I don't think that they tend to do that in this movie.
- 44:25And because I had the same thought, I was like, oh shit, is
- 44:27that the old lady from later? But then I saw the blood, and
- 44:29when we saw her after the fact, no blood.
- 44:32Eerily similar. Yeah.
- 44:33But yeah, just standing there with blood all what is?
- 44:36That building that like that person was standing on, it was
- 44:38like a nursing home or something.
- 44:42That would be sad in the sadness where all things sad happens.
- 44:48So he's out there, he gets distracted by Cat and he turns
- 44:52away, looks back over there and she's gone.
- 44:54And then Mr. Lynn comes out, he's watering his basil.
- 44:57And then they have small, small chitchat about the virus.
- 45:00And it's like, ah, don't worry about it, it's just a hoax.
- 45:02Yeah, he's like, what they're doing is they're waiting.
- 45:04So that way the stock market goes down, they can buy up all
- 45:07the stocks on the cheap, and then when the economy bounces
- 45:10back, they'll sell them for a pretty penny.
- 45:12This is all shit that we like, legitimately heard.
- 45:14We don't have to remind you people.
- 45:15You guys live through the same shit too.
- 45:17Yeah, yeah, you know, you were there.
- 45:19So. So.
- 45:21He's going to give Cat a ride to work on his scooter, but his
- 45:24phone instead, so he's going to go plug it and charge it first.
- 45:27Hard relate. Yeah, it's like 2%.
- 45:30Hard relate. I never let mine get that bad.
- 45:32You are fucking nuts. Mine was at like 8% before I
- 45:35plug it in this morning. I would like to see a version of
- 45:38the sadness where like we see that kind of depravity, like
- 45:41people like waiting for their phone to get down to 1.
- 45:42Percent. That's one of those things, like
- 45:44there are certain things that it always surprises people because
- 45:46I'm normally a very like, conscientious, neat, tidy
- 45:49person. But that's one of those things
- 45:51that it blows everybody of my life's mind that I let my phone
- 45:54die so regularly. Me.
- 45:57But I do. Yeah.
- 45:57I don't. I don't know why.
- 46:01Like, I don't. I just don't think about.
- 46:02It if I see people take screenshots of their phone and I
- 46:05see I, I clock the battery all of the time and if it's ever in
- 46:08the red I'm like, charge your fucking phone motherfucker.
- 46:11Here's a Here's a tip for you. If you ever get a cropped
- 46:14screenshot from me, it's because my battery slow.
- 46:17But I don't want you to call me out.
- 46:20I will. I will crop that shit so I don't
- 46:22get called out. You told them so now I know.
- 46:26Now you know, But at least you can't shame me because you don't
- 46:28know how low it is. That's fair.
- 46:31All right. So on the trip over there, they
- 46:33drive by what looks to be an active crime scene.
- 46:36It this one that just keeps getting worse.
- 46:38So first it looks like a finger Bender and then you're driving
- 46:40and then there's like a there's a crying couple.
- 46:43Well. There's somebody being, like,
- 46:44held down by the police. Yeah.
- 46:46And you're like, is this person crazed?
- 46:48Is this police brutality? Looks like maybe the person's
- 46:50crazed. They're fighting pretty hard.
- 46:52And then you see the couple crying, and then you see you
- 46:55like. Stretchered, covered in blood.
- 46:56Yeah. It's like Jesus, what the fuck
- 46:58happened? Yeah, And you're like, that's
- 47:00not good. And then when they get to the
- 47:02train, the subway station, train station, whatever, Jim's like,
- 47:06sorry, I shouldn't have slowed down.
- 47:07And she's like, well, I look too like.
- 47:09Anytime I think that right there, I just think of the
- 47:11American dad episode. With the best.
- 47:14Yeah, OK, so he drops her off and she's going to get on the
- 47:17train. Yeah, and he's like, I'll make
- 47:19dinner tonight. And she goes, what are you going
- 47:20to make? He's like something with Thai
- 47:23basil, because that's what Mr. Lynn promised to give to them.
- 47:28We get basil for lunch. Not just like chunks of basil,
- 47:32but like we used basil in our lasagna soup.
- 47:33Basil makes shit good man. So he's just.
- 47:39Imagining it was just like eating basil wheats like a.
- 47:41Fucking pandas. So in the meantime, Jim is gonna
- 47:46go to the cafe to get himself some coffee.
- 47:48I like that he walks in and the person is like you're usually
- 47:52just now I already ate, I just put a coffee and that feels very
- 47:55real also. So he's waiting for his coffee
- 47:59and in the background we see this woman walk in out of focus.
- 48:05And they're like, just walk in. And you like the little like
- 48:07musical kids like bring and. I want to point out that they
- 48:11left their apartment at 8:30. I just because this whole movie,
- 48:14like all of these things we're going to talk about take place
- 48:16in the span of like 4 hours. It's.
- 48:17Like 1/2 a day. Yeah, it really is not a long
- 48:20time. Yeah.
- 48:21So yeah, she. Just like 1/2 a work day,
- 48:24actually, yeah. Yeah, isn't that weird like this
- 48:27is? All over by lunchtime.
- 48:30So there's, like, patrons there in the restaurant, and they
- 48:34notice that the woman is acting kind of strange.
- 48:36So one guy gets up to like talk to her and then she goes over
- 48:40there and she just spits in his face.
- 48:42And it's fucking gross. And then the person that's
- 48:46cooking the food, he's like, hey dude, don't do that.
- 48:49And so she picks up the fry basket, dumps it on his head and
- 48:54then calls off his crispy skin. Kills his whole fucking face
- 48:58off. Oh my God it is gnarly.
- 49:00And the dude who got spit on turns and stabs his like teenage
- 49:05son that he's with. That's awful.
- 49:09This and this part right here. And the old woman, she just
- 49:12like, looks at Jim. She's like handsome boy, like so
- 49:16fucking creepy. So she like, chases him, like
- 49:19backs him out of the restaurant into the middle of the road, and
- 49:22then she gets whacked. Buy a fucking car.
- 49:24Yeah, and he sees like the person that's driving is also
- 49:29crazed. People jump down from a roof,
- 49:31they're crazed, and they all start chasing after him.
- 49:33He runs back to his apartment. He gets inside.
- 49:35Drink something. I can't tell if it's alcoholic
- 49:38or not. I don't know.
- 49:38That I wouldn't need a drink after.
- 49:40That Yeah, no, I'd immediately be like popping up in one of my
- 49:43my mountain, my special mountain dews you.
- 49:45Need something harder than that for this.
- 49:47I mean, it's called Mountain Dew hard Travis, that's.
- 49:49Just 5%, man, I ain't going to cut it.
- 49:52I'm dainty. So yeah, he he gets his phone
- 49:57and he's trying to get a hold of Cat to be like, hey, what the
- 49:59fuck's happening? He's like, don't.
- 50:01He's like, I will come to you. I'm coming to find you.
- 50:04He turns on the TV and it's like a state of emergency on
- 50:07basically every channel except for the cartoon.
- 50:09Yeah, that we talked about. And then there's an announcement
- 50:13that comes over the like speakers outside.
- 50:17So fucking eerie, like because you hear this and you
- 50:20automatically think, oh, here's the people that are going to
- 50:22help. This is the thing that's going
- 50:24to be like informative and like it'll be at least maybe somewhat
- 50:27reassuring. He's like, there's no kind of.
- 50:29Emergency Everybody needs to report here.
- 50:31No, like all of the men report to the whatever building because
- 50:36we're going to cut your Dicks off and feed them.
- 50:38The dogs and all of the women come to this building because
- 50:42we're going to rape you. We're going to have the dogs
- 50:45rape you. Is that what he said?
- 50:47Yeah. Oh fuck, which that I don't know
- 50:50if you've ever read the transcriptions for the tape that
- 50:53the dude would play for his victims.
- 50:55It was like the Toy Box Killer. Toy Box Killer.
- 50:57Yeah, that guy is. Fucked up and that was one of
- 50:58the things that he did to his victims.
- 51:00Oh, for real? Yeah, Oh.
- 51:02God, it's damn fucked up. And he goes into detail about it
- 51:04on the tapes. That way they know exactly
- 51:06what's going to be happening to them.
- 51:07That's one of the things where I know that there's access to that
- 51:10clip out there and I usually I have more curiosity for things
- 51:15like that, but I heed warnings every now and then and that's
- 51:18one where I've. That was one of those on Reddit
- 51:21that I was just like, let the link stay blue and I was like, I
- 51:23can handle this. I could not handle this.
- 51:26And I just read the transcription.
- 51:28I didn't even hear his voice and I can't imagine listening to the
- 51:31clip. Yeah, I'm not in for that.
- 51:34So Wallace is like is happening. He's distracted, trying to get a
- 51:38hold of cats still. And then we see in the
- 51:40background, out of focus, Mr. Lynn has climbed the balcony
- 51:43over onto his balcony. And he starts to sneak up behind
- 51:46him. And then Jim gets a glance of
- 51:48him at the like from a reflection of something in his
- 51:51house. So he turns around, stops Mr.
- 51:53Lynn, who has shears held up to him.
- 51:56He's holding the shears and then they back him down to a wall and
- 51:59then eventually. Of course.
- 52:01Mr. Lily was like, oh, I've got fucking.
- 52:03Cheers. Yeah, I can.
- 52:03Just close these. This is one of those that you
- 52:05know it's coming, you're powerless to stop it.
- 52:08It doesn't make it suck any less knowing it's going to happen.
- 52:10I think movies that can accomplish that where like,
- 52:13you're not surprised by anything, but it still feels
- 52:16like a gut punch. Yeah, that's good storytelling.
- 52:19There was a good build up to it, Yeah.
- 52:20Like, you know what's going to happen?
- 52:21It's just like, Oh my God, here's it's so fucking tense.
- 52:24And then snip and his fingers cut off.
- 52:26He pulls a raw and hurts to eat his fingie, which I'm gonna talk
- 52:30about raw on this show. Yeah, that's another I.
- 52:33Really wanna talk about that? One that's a great movie also
- 52:35fucked up it's only. Yeah, and then he spits it into
- 52:38the fish tank. Poor fish.
- 52:40I wish, I wish. I wish I hadn't stepped on that
- 52:43fish. I do wish we had seen like the
- 52:47fish go crazy. Yeah, each other.
- 52:48I don't. Want to see fish attack each
- 52:51other? I don't want to animal cruelty.
- 52:53I don't want to see like I was talking about before.
- 52:56This is the most I've wanted. That right there.
- 52:58Just give the fish a finger. Give the fish a finger.
- 53:02Yeah. And you know that's we can leave
- 53:04it at that. So Jim hits him with a toaster
- 53:08and then he leaves. That's it.
- 53:10That's. Does he kill him?
- 53:11No. No, he's moving before Jim gets
- 53:13out of the. Apartment he is, Yeah, okay.
- 53:15He sees a group torturing a man on the way to his bike and it's.
- 53:19A group that chased him there they were just waiting.
- 53:21They found a new dude. They are.
- 53:23They curb stomp this dude's arm. This one I always.
- 53:28See, I'm like, yeah, I'm like rubbing my arm, right?
- 53:31Now you didn't even watch. It yeah, you like.
- 53:34That's how you turn away cuz yeah, it's fucking gnarly.
- 53:36Like they show it straight up. They curb stomp that arm.
- 53:39Oh, it's. So bad, it's so bad.
- 53:42So he gets to his bike and like it goes ringing and it attracts
- 53:50everybody on the block. They.
- 53:52Cover trope right there. But you know what?
- 53:55It works. Yeah, it's still fine.
- 53:56Like it worsen but he gets it going just in time because you
- 53:59know it's going to. Happen.
- 54:00Yeah, he drives off. Yeah, we're still only like 20
- 54:02minutes in the movie. Of course he's gonna get out.
- 54:05And then a cop is one of the infected ones and he's chasing
- 54:07him too. So Cat is on the train and she
- 54:12is reading her book. And this guy was like, oh, it's
- 54:14so nice to see you raise your book.
- 54:17People these days are just so focused on their phones, which I
- 54:20always get annoyed about that because one, I have the Kindle
- 54:22app on my phone. So sometimes I am reading a book
- 54:25on my phone if I don't have my book or my Kindle with me.
- 54:28Yeah, and like, whatever, man, like that's fucking, it's modern
- 54:32times, whatever. Sometimes I'm doing the
- 54:34crossword, I'm exercising my mind that way.
- 54:36Sometimes I'm reading the news and yeah, sometimes I'm.
- 54:38I'm just watching animal videos. Let me have them on dopamine,
- 54:42dude. Yeah, it's not your business.
- 54:44Yeah, you get your dopamine from harassing young women.
- 54:47Let me have mine. Watching cats say meows that
- 54:51sound like. Words and dogs getting.
- 54:53Parents and yeah, getting their nails clear, yeah.
- 54:56Their nails clear. So he like keeps pressing.
- 55:01He's like, look, I have noticed you on this train for many weeks
- 55:05now. Things you don't want to hear.
- 55:06No, it's not good. And then he's like, I just
- 55:09wanted to tell you, I think you're beautiful.
- 55:11And then he like tries to touch her hair and she says stop I'm
- 55:15going to find a cop and file her sexual harassment claim.
- 55:18And he goes you fucking bitch all you bitches are the same.
- 55:22Can't take a compliment. Yeah, he's like, it's a fucking
- 55:25crime to compliment somebody did it, like to talk to people like.
- 55:29You know what I bet this guy does when he's on his phone?
- 55:31Goes to the red pills. I've Reddit.
- 55:33Yeah, probably. I don't know what that is
- 55:35exactly. But sure, it's a kind of men's
- 55:38righty type thing, yeah. She gets up because the train
- 55:41stopped and Molly is now on board and she kind of said Molly
- 55:46up for failure here. That's that's me.
- 55:48She's like Molly, take or not, she doesn't know Molly, but
- 55:50she's like here, you can have my seat.
- 55:52And Molly sit down next to the businessman.
- 55:55And then while this is happening, another guy has
- 55:57sported the train. This is dude with sunglasses and
- 56:00he's just kind of got this weird smile.
- 56:01If we didn't know about the virus, I would 100% say this guy
- 56:05was on bath salts. That's the kind of energy he's.
- 56:08Given he's either on bath salts or he is just fucking rolling
- 56:12high on some kind of pill, probably Molly.
- 56:15It'd be my guess here, but he's just looking up at the sky and
- 56:19then you see this tear roll down his face and then he gets out a
- 56:23knife and he starts just stabbing random people in the
- 56:26train. And eventually people are like,
- 56:28hey, that's enough. And then they pin him down and
- 56:31get his knife while this is all happening.
- 56:34Everybody's like, yeah, we saved the day, it's all OK.
- 56:39Molly immediately she barnacles to Cat and she's like why is he?
- 56:43She does, yeah. She like she.
- 56:47Like has her arms roused around Cat's leg.
- 56:49She's like, why are they doing? This.
- 56:51I've never had friends I've heard of trauma bonding.
- 56:54Here's my chance. Finally, yes.
- 56:57This is my end. And so, yeah, everybody thinks
- 57:01that they've got in the guy. He really he also.
- 57:04And he bloodied that place up, boy.
- 57:06There's one guy in particular, like some of them were getting
- 57:09blood everywhere, but he got this one guy in the jugular and
- 57:11it hit some the artery. Yeah, like the one that gushes
- 57:15the most blood. Yeah.
- 57:16Yeah. Cuz it's just like a fucking
- 57:18Tarantino movie. Blood is just like, it's like a
- 57:20waterfall in there. So a lot of people are covered
- 57:23and gonna be infected now, which is what happens.
- 57:26Like 90% of that train becomes infected.
- 57:29You know, and before, like, as the guy saying held down, he's
- 57:31like, did I break the record? And I'm like, OK, cool.
- 57:33So he's with a weird group of people that decided they were
- 57:35gonna, like, see how many people they could stab.
- 57:38It's one of those things that they're like, yeah, they're in
- 57:40control. They're not in control, but
- 57:42they're aware and they can plan. And they have, like, they talk
- 57:46to each other and they make games of it and stuff.
- 57:48So another man attacks somebody, then several more people are
- 57:51attacking. It's just absolute chaos.
- 57:54And we have seen that the asshole has stood up from his
- 57:57bench and all of a sudden we just have an umbrella in Molly's
- 58:00face. God, eye trauma.
- 58:04It gets me every single time. The holy fucking shit Umbrella.
- 58:08Yeah, they stop, the train stops and they all run off.
- 58:11We see Cat has dropped her phone.
- 58:13It is just in a pool of blood. She has not seen any of John's
- 58:17texts because she has been dealing with some other shit.
- 58:21Cat is helping Molly and the asshole is following them down.
- 58:24The thing. This kind of I, I say this every
- 58:27time we watch it, but I'm just like Molly babe, it is your eye,
- 58:31not your leg. Why are you having Cat carry
- 58:33you? Yeah, I don't understand why
- 58:35she's like blimping. It's it's a little funny.
- 58:40Yeah, I'm like, come on, come on, babe.
- 58:42You you just found your friend. Don't blow it so soon, man.
- 58:44Come on. We're rooting for you here.
- 58:46Yeah, and they're. Like back a little.
- 58:48There's another funny part. They're running through there
- 58:50and they run into the sky and say, what the fuck's wrong with
- 58:53you? Are you blind?
- 58:53And then he sees her eyes like Oh my God, you are blind.
- 58:57Which I can't blame him because I feel like I would have had a
- 59:00similar reaction. Like, what the fuck?
- 59:02What the fuck? Yeah.
- 59:04Oh my God, I'm so sorry. And then he tries to help
- 59:07because they're like, hey, that guy's coming after us.
- 59:09He wants to rape us and kill us. And he's like, not on my watch.
- 59:12He's a big dude. Yeah.
- 59:13I'm like, I want this dude fighting for me.
- 59:14Except he does not know what he's up against.
- 59:17Yeah. Well, he he starts out pretty
- 59:19strong, but then he doesn't expect the businessman to bite
- 59:23his nose off. No, to be fair, like that and
- 59:26the Spanish Inquisition are the top two things people don't
- 59:29expect. This is another thing I've seen
- 59:31in a lot of videos of like people fighting drugged up
- 59:34people. That's not the person you want
- 59:35to fight because they'll do shit like this.
- 59:37They'll bite your fucking finger off.
- 59:39They'll buy whatever. It's not good.
- 59:41This is and this is the stuff I learned from you watching all
- 59:44your street fight videos. You're like, there are no rules
- 59:46there. You say it every time.
- 59:48You're like play dirty. If you're in that situation,
- 59:50play dirty. Street fight, It's like it's for
- 59:53your life every single time out there.
- 59:54Yeah, No, no fucking way. Yeah, and then this is where the
- 59:58asshole gets the the emergency acts out-of-the-box and it gets
- 1:00:02caught on his name. You're gonna have to like,
- 1:00:03rewatch that scene just so you can kind of see him like.
- 1:00:07This is really like the way that this was shot too, because it's
- 1:00:10like that far tunnel shot and then all the way you see him
- 1:00:12just kind of like slowly walk in the frame and Oh my God, it's so
- 1:00:15creepy. And they go running up a ramp
- 1:00:17and you can see like there's an exit and they're trying to get
- 1:00:20there. And then you see the gate guys
- 1:00:23slowly lower the gate and they're like, hey, hey.
- 1:00:26And they like Indiana Jones under the door.
- 1:00:28They just barely get out. And they're like, what the fuck
- 1:00:31is wrong with you? And then the asshole goes like
- 1:00:33up there and he's like, I'm coming for you.
- 1:00:34And they're like, see, this is what you almost walked us in.
- 1:00:37There he goes. The police told me to lock it.
- 1:00:40I didn't know what was going on. I thought you were crazy like
- 1:00:42the rest of them. So did you know what was going
- 1:00:44on or not then? Gay guy.
- 1:00:46Molly punches him in the nose. Book.
- 1:00:48Yeah, Molly. I've got friend industry now I
- 1:00:50can punch you in the nose. Power through friends.
- 1:00:53I have strength now. Yeah.
- 1:00:55Girl bosses. So he tags along with them.
- 1:00:59Yeah, they're like, OK, let's go to the.
- 1:01:00Hospital. I mean, he doesn't.
- 1:01:01He thinks that he, his little Boo Boo needs to be addressed.
- 1:01:04Yeah. And he tells Molly to stop being
- 1:01:07dramatic. Well, he doesn't say it yet, but
- 1:01:09he says something that gets so he's like, stop being traumatic.
- 1:01:11And she's like, my brain got poked.
- 1:01:13You got. Your nose may be broken.
- 1:01:15Probably not. It's not actually verifiably
- 1:01:18because the nurse looks at it. I got no fucking eyes.
- 1:01:20Here's The thing is that noses bleed.
- 1:01:23A lot like you can have a little injury and it'll bleed a lot.
- 1:01:26I've gotten nosebleeds just from playing a little too rough with
- 1:01:28Talia. There's like a lot of like blood
- 1:01:29vessels. Yeah, there.
- 1:01:31Yeah, yeah. So Jim is driving along and we
- 1:01:34hear, like, a broadcast happening, like, just basically
- 1:01:37talking about how, like, you know, this virus is widespread.
- 1:01:40Don't trust anybody who seems like they're acting strange.
- 1:01:43It's affecting, like, people of all ages, including children.
- 1:01:47Don't trust your family members if they're acting strange.
- 1:01:49Basically just like you know. People are being violent like
- 1:01:52it's like physical, like attacking violence and also
- 1:01:54sexual violence. So be wary.
- 1:01:56Yeah, he gets to a point because the main roads are blocked off,
- 1:01:59so he's taking Back Rd. and he stops in at one point when he's
- 1:02:03like alone and he tapes his hand.
- 1:02:06Yeah, he's like, he's got a little material under his seat
- 1:02:09on his scooter and you get some water.
- 1:02:11And he conveniently happened to stop right next to a block of
- 1:02:15wood that has the perfect blade. Yeah, sticking out of it.
- 1:02:18So he takes it for himself. Yeah, it's kind of like a like a
- 1:02:21handheld scythe. There's like a video game right
- 1:02:23here. Like, yeah, I felt like I was
- 1:02:25watching a Pokémon game, like, oh, you're this route's closed.
- 1:02:28You have to find the alternate. Yeah, I wish.
- 1:02:29Like when he had opened up the seat of his scooter, like we
- 1:02:31were just getting like the circle like inventory like so he
- 1:02:34can be like click drink water +2.
- 1:02:41So he hears some screaming in the distance.
- 1:02:43So he goes to go investigate. He sees a group of three teens.
- 1:02:48They have a man tied to a pole. They're all wearing sports
- 1:02:51outfits. Yeah, it seems like soccer, if I
- 1:02:54were to guess, basketball, maybe it looked like a basketball
- 1:02:57court that they were at. I thought maybe it was baseball
- 1:02:59because they had bats. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:03:01It could be anything, yeah. You're right.
- 1:03:03Yeah, that's right. That's right.
- 1:03:04I just wrote Sports you. Don't typically wear shorts with
- 1:03:07baseball though because you got to slide.
- 1:03:09You don't want to slide with shorts on.
- 1:03:11Yeah, but I mean, maybe they were just doing like, practice.
- 1:03:18Sorry, theater kid. Energy came out and I almost
- 1:03:21said dress rehearsal. Jesse no dress rehearsal in
- 1:03:28sports. No, there's nothing.
- 1:03:34There's no physical realm where those two are tied together.
- 1:03:38Yeah, and that's why I paused until I got the word practice.
- 1:03:41Out. I just love the idea of like
- 1:03:43going to like a baseball practice.
- 1:03:44Like, hey fellas, we're doing dress rehearsal today.
- 1:03:47You fucking what? Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 1:03:51I knew it wasn't right, and I was.
- 1:03:53I was choosing to be honest. But yeah, they're, the guy's
- 1:03:56tied up. He's kind of watching just to
- 1:03:59check, like see, should I intervene?
- 1:04:02The guy's still alive. They're taking bats to his head.
- 1:04:05He's got this is like where they know the visual effects, the
- 1:04:08makeup effects, but it's got like huge swelts.
- 1:04:11Or welts. His face is just nasty.
- 1:04:15And one of the kids hits him a little too hard.
- 1:04:18And I'm like, now he's unconscious.
- 1:04:19And it's no fun when he's unconscious.
- 1:04:20And they're like, hey, I got an idea.
- 1:04:22Let's do another round of Nutcracker.
- 1:04:24Which apparently means that they take this guy, they spread his
- 1:04:26legs and they run him into a pole.
- 1:04:28But this time, yeah, they wrapped barbed wire where his
- 1:04:31pee pee. It's gonna hit.
- 1:04:33Oh my God, it's so fucking and. Then this is where Jim comes in
- 1:04:38and he's like, cool, I'm gonna save the day, feel real good
- 1:04:41about myself. The kids run off and then the
- 1:04:45guy goes, why did you stop them? I was just about to blow my
- 1:04:48load. So I was wondering.
- 1:04:51Can you do that if your penis is full of puncture wounds?
- 1:04:55I don't want to know. Like does it?
- 1:04:58I'm not going to do the research.
- 1:05:00Does it just like ooze out of all of the?
- 1:05:03Holes, Jesse. No.
- 1:05:05No. Stop it.
- 1:05:07You know, like when you have a tube of like something.
- 1:05:09And no, Jesse, stop it. I am putting my foot down right
- 1:05:15now. I don't want to hear it.
- 1:05:19I forbid it. So I was going to say, was he
- 1:05:26infected beforehand or did he turn after that nut Buster?
- 1:05:33I feel like it happened at some point between going unconscious
- 1:05:37and having his Wiener smashed. I think that's what happened to
- 1:05:42because he seemed like he was resisting.
- 1:05:44Yeah, he seemed to not enjoy it. And then he very quickly was
- 1:05:48like, Nah, man, I was almost there so.
- 1:05:51And that's like, yeah, that's super unsettling having that.
- 1:05:53Like I was about to fucking call him as a.
- 1:05:56Yeah, and the kids have run back at this point when they realize
- 1:05:59that this guy has changed and like, rocks.
- 1:06:00Yeah. Throwing rocks at gym.
- 1:06:02Yeah. And then he he runs off.
- 1:06:04How did he get away? How did he make it?
- 1:06:07I'm I'm not buying it. He got he had enough time to run
- 1:06:10to his scooter to start it up and drive off.
- 1:06:12Those kids were able to probably throw rocks at his head and
- 1:06:14knock him. Out.
- 1:06:15Yeah, we know they're in good shape.
- 1:06:16They were at dress rehearsal before this so.
- 1:06:18Yeah, yeah. OK, so back over to Cat's story.
- 1:06:24They're at the hospital and the ER is closed because it's been
- 1:06:28overrun by people infected. And the cops are like, so we're
- 1:06:31just going to kind of like treat in the small corner of the
- 1:06:34hospital. And they tell cat thing or they
- 1:06:37tell Molly that they need to give her ACT scan.
- 1:06:40And that's when the gate guy was like, but what about me?
- 1:06:43My nose is broken. And the nurse like clicks a
- 1:06:45little pen light on and off real fast because no, it's not.
- 1:06:48And this is like, I feel bad for her because they're willing her
- 1:06:51back and she's she's like, I'm losing my friend now I gotta say
- 1:06:54goodbye to Cat. Yeah.
- 1:06:56Thank you for saving my wife, I'll never forget you.
- 1:06:58Yeah, and then this is gay guy. He's like, he's also barnacling
- 1:07:02for Cat. Like she's just attracting
- 1:07:04everybody. Whether it's.
- 1:07:05Them or not today and he's like stop being dramatic and then cat
- 1:07:10goes give me your phone and then he's like what and they're out
- 1:07:14in the lobby and she goes you almost let a man rape and kill
- 1:07:18us let me use your phone and then everybody in the.
- 1:07:21Waiting room perception to her benefit there she's like she
- 1:07:25shamed him and she gave him no other option but to roll in
- 1:07:28there and. Good for her.
- 1:07:30Yeah, it's effective and he is over the phone and he's got like
- 1:07:33like this anime girl with big boobs as a screensaver it.
- 1:07:36Doesn't even have her face, it's just the boobs.
- 1:07:38No, I think it's only like I, it's on the one like the lock
- 1:07:42screen, it's the full face. But when you unlock it and you
- 1:07:45know, I can set it to something else.
- 1:07:47I think that's the boobs. It's not better.
- 1:07:51It's not better. But he he there the face is
- 1:07:54present. So she downloads this app to
- 1:07:59contact Jim. And he's like freaking out.
- 1:08:01And she's like, I don't have his number memorized.
- 1:08:03I'm using whatever the app is. And he was like, how hard is it
- 1:08:06to memorize a number? And she's like, how hard is it
- 1:08:09to not let me get murdered? I know your numbers, like yeah,
- 1:08:14I always have that, but I don't know most other people's
- 1:08:17numbers. Yeah, I have years memorized
- 1:08:19just because at a certain point it was easier to not have to
- 1:08:21look it up every single time that I needed to write it down.
- 1:08:24Yeah, plus, as we've discussed, I have a habit of letting my
- 1:08:28phone die, so I figured I needed to have at least one emergency
- 1:08:31number memorized. So in the lobby there, the TV
- 1:08:36turns on, we get the national broadcast startup.
- 1:08:40It's the Department of Defense. They're like, hey, we are trying
- 1:08:44to be transparent. So here we are.
- 1:08:46We're giving you a guys like a briefing on what's going on
- 1:08:48here. Here's the president.
- 1:08:49He's going to give you all some information.
- 1:08:51Yeah. So the infection rate seems to
- 1:08:53currently be about 10 to 15%, which means 14.5 million people
- 1:08:56are currently infected. 4.5. Oh, that, that is the start of
- 1:09:02the parentheses. OK, yeah, 4.5, you know, and and
- 1:09:07then he goes kind of like a history lesson and are just
- 1:09:10like, well, this is just like bullshit, whatever.
- 1:09:12And they start to get distracted and then the general comes up,
- 1:09:15interrupts the president, but pulling a pin on a.
- 1:09:18Grenade, you see like the old tear roll down his face.
- 1:09:22Yeah, He pulls a pin on grenade, shoves it in the president's
- 1:09:25mouth, and then we watch his head explode on TV.
- 1:09:28I feel like they probably could have cut the broadcast before
- 1:09:30that because like it was very clear what was going to.
- 1:09:32Happen. I love the way it cuts after
- 1:09:33that though because when things cut to like the default like
- 1:09:38error screen after an event like that, that makes it so much more
- 1:09:41unsettling. Yeah, actually.
- 1:09:42Like that feels not planned. That head explosion was very
- 1:09:49fuck scanners. Yeah.
- 1:09:51Yeah, it was. And then this causes chaos in
- 1:09:55the waiting room. People start fighting, they're
- 1:09:57freaking out, they don't know what's real and what's not.
- 1:09:59And then the cop is like trying to figure out how they're going
- 1:10:02to calm everybody down. And then this is where we get
- 1:10:04that slow approach for the asshole outside.
- 1:10:06It's so creepy, Oh my God. And Cat sees him and she goes
- 1:10:09running before he's able to. He makes eye.
- 1:10:11Contact. Yeah, she like gets a jump on
- 1:10:14it. She gets in the door and she
- 1:10:16walks the gatekeeper guy out and he's mad about it, and then he
- 1:10:23gets in there, axes the cop in the back, a bunch of other
- 1:10:27infected jump in there and it's just chaos.
- 1:10:30Everybody's attacked. The gatekeeper runs to the back
- 1:10:33with Molly and hides under one of the little.
- 1:10:35No, he runs to the back. Molly has been given drugs.
- 1:10:38Good for her. Yeah, and a clean bandage on her
- 1:10:40eye. Also good for her.
- 1:10:41She's just sitting there. She's vibing.
- 1:10:43She's riding the waves. For example, I'm just like I'm
- 1:10:47hearing the fucking like synth wave like.
- 1:10:51Just like going on back there for her.
- 1:10:52She's just like chilling back. Yeah, he sees her, and you can
- 1:10:57see him recognize that she's not going to be able to defend
- 1:11:00herself. He realistically had to.
- 1:11:02She's in a wheelchair. He just has to scoot, scoot,
- 1:11:04scoot. And he doesn't.
- 1:11:06Instead he hides the. Guy fucking sucks, he's
- 1:11:09spineless as fuck. And then?
- 1:11:13He, the businessman, walks back there, sees her, and he's like,
- 1:11:16oh, hey, where's your friend at? Well, hey, whatever, I'm going
- 1:11:19to be able to have fun with you. And I'm sorry we have to say
- 1:11:22this. People he so he unbuckles his
- 1:11:24pants. First of all, this dork is
- 1:11:28wearing suspenders and a belt. Pick one, man.
- 1:11:31Yeah, like your pants like or just get better pants like this
- 1:11:35is excessive and. Just imagine like if you like, I
- 1:11:39feel sorry for the man, maybe does.
- 1:11:41This because pre virus like he barely controlled his rapey
- 1:11:44tendencies. So like a chassis?
- 1:11:46Yeah, no, it's going to make it more.
- 1:11:50Different. Yeah.
- 1:11:51He's like, I have to think really hard as I'm unbuckling my
- 1:11:53belt if I'm going to really do this.
- 1:11:55So yeah, he's doing this. And we're like, oh fuck not Poor
- 1:11:58Molly. And then it gets worse because
- 1:11:59he takes the bandage off her eye.
- 1:12:02And this is the moment where I screamed at the TV.
- 1:12:07The camera cameraman was nice enough to pan up.
- 1:12:10To where we just. See, like the upper torso of the
- 1:12:13businessman. And unfortunately Molly is not
- 1:12:16rolling high enough to avoid this were because she is
- 1:12:19screaming and we see gatekeeper look real uncomfortable under
- 1:12:24the stretcher Gurney. Whatever the fuck he's on and I
- 1:12:27don't feel bad for him. I don't think he's really
- 1:12:29uncomfortable about what's happening to her.
- 1:12:30I think he's just scared for himself.
- 1:12:32Yeah, he's just a selfish. And that's what I like how we
- 1:12:35have the different layers of how people react to these types of
- 1:12:39things in this movie too. Like we but.
- 1:12:41That right there is like kind of like what you were talking about
- 1:12:43before. That was how people like you
- 1:12:45lose faith in humanity. Moments like this, that guy
- 1:12:47didn't care about other people, he just cared about himself.
- 1:12:50So, Jim? Gets the text from Kat on the
- 1:12:54guy's phone and he calls her and, you know, she's like, hey,
- 1:12:58I took it from this guy so I don't have my phone.
- 1:13:01You're going to have to call me. I can't call you.
- 1:13:04And he's like, OK, well, I'm coming.
- 1:13:06I will find you. And as he's doing this, like
- 1:13:08he's having flashes. He sees like a mannequin head in
- 1:13:10the lake, but he starts thinking that it's like a real person's
- 1:13:13dead body. It's.
- 1:13:14Like looking at its teeth, it's like some weird shit.
- 1:13:16Yeah, he also sheds a tear. Yeah, but.
- 1:13:18Then this is like also plausible deniability because he could
- 1:13:21just be sad because he's talking to Cat and he's like worried
- 1:13:23about her, you know? Yeah, the gay guy runs out after
- 1:13:29everything was done. Stumbles upon hallway orgy.
- 1:13:32Blood orgy A. Big.
- 1:13:33That's a good horror movie name. Blood Orgy right there.
- 1:13:36I'm I swear to God, we're going to see that on TV like next
- 1:13:40month or something. To be or not to be People coming
- 1:13:42up and then he like tries to run across and then he stumbles upon
- 1:13:47Molly and then Molly gets her revenge on him.
- 1:13:52I love this. She goes in a little worm.
- 1:13:54Yeah, that's like a Gunther level insult.
- 1:13:56Yeah, yeah. And she takes this little
- 1:13:58surgical saw and she's like, yeah.
- 1:14:01And then I like this shot FM. He's like being backed down by
- 1:14:04her. And then he like stumbles in the
- 1:14:06hallway and the orgy has stopped because they'd see him and
- 1:14:09they're just kind of like peeking from behind the corner
- 1:14:13and it's so fucking creepy. And then they all just pounce on
- 1:14:16him, sort of like going to him. And then she on top, all of that
- 1:14:19takes the little blade and so it's cutting him up.
- 1:14:21Yep, Cat, here is the stairwell door open and she goes.
- 1:14:27She runs so fast she leaves her shoes behind.
- 1:14:30She was out of her shoes. Yeah, impressive.
- 1:14:33She she pulls a full Cinderella, double Cinderella even.
- 1:14:37And the the people stop and sniff her shoes and we see her
- 1:14:42legs. Yeah.
- 1:14:44Yeah, businessman's one of the people part of the chase here.
- 1:14:47She like, makes it into this little door, and she like
- 1:14:51makeshifts a little lock on it, like sticks, like a thing in the
- 1:14:54bars. It's not enough to contain the
- 1:14:57businessman. He's able to slip through the.
- 1:14:58Crash Yeah, cuz it it looks like it's probably like a hollow
- 1:15:01steel tube type thing. It's probably been stretched
- 1:15:04real thin and it's easy enough for him to bend and he's a thin
- 1:15:06guy, which is why he needs so many ways of keeping his hands
- 1:15:11and he squeezes through and chases after.
- 1:15:14He like locks the extra he takes the bars and bends in.
- 1:15:17He's like, sorry boy, she's all mine and they love those.
- 1:15:19And again, this is a whole other, like, there is a whole
- 1:15:22sociology I want to study with the people who have this virus
- 1:15:25because we have Molly downstairs and the blood orgy people are
- 1:15:28like, yeah, we probably weren't friends with you before the
- 1:15:29virus, but you know what? You get your revenge.
- 1:15:31You go, girl. And they, like, work together as
- 1:15:35a group. And then this asshole's like,
- 1:15:36Nope, I'm doing destruction by myself, boys.
- 1:15:40Yeah, I got, I got wrong turn vibes.
- 1:15:44I got like hillockers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:47When they're like in the hospital.
- 1:15:50Yeah, exactly. Yeah, and four.
- 1:15:51Patients are turning them on. So she has like hidden, he's
- 1:15:54walking down the hallway with his axe and then she pops out
- 1:15:58from where she was hiding and uses the fire extinguisher on
- 1:16:00him. And then she like, hoses him
- 1:16:02down with it, takes it and starts bashing his fucking.
- 1:16:05Head. This is very irreducible.
- 1:16:07Yeah. Sorry, it was pretentious in
- 1:16:10French, like whenever I watch them.
- 1:16:17And then we have another good for her moment because she gets
- 1:16:20this guy that's been harassing her for like.
- 1:16:22And he's like, he's like, you're no better than me.
- 1:16:24You're just as depraved. And she's like, I'm fighting for
- 1:16:27my life. You fuck her.
- 1:16:28She doesn't let him have the satisfaction.
- 1:16:30She mashes that skull so much. And then as soon as she's done,
- 1:16:35the store right next to her just slides open.
- 1:16:37It's like a secret door and it's this guy in a hazmat suit.
- 1:16:41He's gonna come in here. Yep.
- 1:16:43And as soon as she does, he, like, handcuffs her to the
- 1:16:45shower. Like he holds the gun up and he
- 1:16:47said you need to handcuff yourself to the shower.
- 1:16:48And she's like, what? And he goes, I don't wanna do
- 1:16:50this, but I don't know. You shower.
- 1:16:53For up until a certain point, this guy's very reasonable.
- 1:16:56Yeah, like, and I'm kind of like, I get it.
- 1:16:59Like, yeah, let's let's feel her out.
- 1:17:01And he forces a chemical bath on her.
- 1:17:04Again, reasonable. I get it.
- 1:17:05Like he understands that the blood causes the contamination.
- 1:17:08Yeah, he's like you are covered in all kinds of other people
- 1:17:11right now. You can take the tissue.
- 1:17:12Yeah. You got to get that shit off of
- 1:17:14you. So she's like, I don't know,
- 1:17:16what am I going to wear? He's like, I've got scrubs for
- 1:17:18you right here. Just wash that shit off.
- 1:17:19Yeah. And she looks around, she sees
- 1:17:22it as the maternity ward. And he's like, Oh no, they've
- 1:17:25been renovating this part of the building.
- 1:17:26It's been empty, but these doors are the most secure ones in the
- 1:17:29hospital. People like to feel that it
- 1:17:30keeps them safe, it keeps their babies safe.
- 1:17:33Yeah, makes sense. Yeah.
- 1:17:34And this is where he's like talking about he's, he's a
- 1:17:37virologist, you know, and he's been studying this in for like.
- 1:17:40A year and he's been sounding the alarms on the Alvin virus
- 1:17:44for a whole year, but everybody's been denying it
- 1:17:46because it's an election year. Politics, but got wrapped up in
- 1:17:50it. Sound familiar, people?
- 1:17:51Yeah, and he was like lot like, politics shouldn't matter when
- 1:17:54lives are on the line. So he like we get a whole dump
- 1:18:02of information on this whole thing here.
- 1:18:05So I've got. I wrote as much of it as I can
- 1:18:07here. Let's see.
- 1:18:09And again, this is one of those things that as much as we love
- 1:18:12this movie and we love covering these types of movies, it is
- 1:18:15really hard to take notes when you're also trying to read
- 1:18:17subtitles. Yeah, so apparently the virus
- 1:18:21attacks the. Limbic.
- 1:18:23System, yeah, which is where people have their violence in
- 1:18:26their sex drive, emotions or whatever.
- 1:18:30It's all tied in the. Like the lizard brain, Like the
- 1:18:32one that drives all of your primal needs.
- 1:18:34Yeah, it's all, it's very similar to that area.
- 1:18:36So people lose their impulse control.
- 1:18:39They understand that they're doing viral things, but they
- 1:18:41can't control themselves. So that's where he speculates
- 1:18:44that maybe the tears that are coming from them are from the
- 1:18:46guilt because they feel bad for the horrible actions that they
- 1:18:49can't help from doing. Yeah, he's like, he's like, it's
- 1:18:51like telling yourself not to blink and like, think about it,
- 1:18:54you can't not do it. And these people, even though
- 1:18:57they don't want to do it, they have like this insane
- 1:18:59bloodthirst, like they, they need this violence to satisfy
- 1:19:03whatever is being triggered in their brain.
- 1:19:06And he says not only like people think that it makes you lose all
- 1:19:10imagination, but no, it does the opposite.
- 1:19:12It makes you imagine even more horrific things than you could
- 1:19:14ever think of before. Victims must suffer is the
- 1:19:18number one thing here. So that's why they aren't
- 1:19:21normally going after each other because they love the shit that
- 1:19:25happens to them so that they're not having fun torturing people
- 1:19:28if they're people being are also having fun.
- 1:19:30Yeah, and she goes to put her clothes in the biohazardous
- 1:19:35waste, and here's a upsetting sound and she looks and it's an
- 1:19:43infected baby, and I think this is worse than the baby and Dawn
- 1:19:48of the Dead. Definitely.
- 1:19:50Yep. It is so cuz like, this baby is
- 1:19:53so angry, the innate wants to attack it can't do anything.
- 1:19:57And then she freaks out and then he handcuffs her back into the
- 1:20:01shower and he's like, listen, these babies were just left here
- 1:20:06and I was going to rescue them. It was hard enough to get the
- 1:20:10helicopter to come. And then I was like, well, I'll
- 1:20:12save these babies, you know? But then I thought.
- 1:20:15What? Perfect little test subjects.
- 1:20:17So I injected them all. And this is where he also
- 1:20:19injects her with the virus. And he's like, we're going to
- 1:20:21see if you're immune. None of these babies were
- 1:20:23immune. This one must have been a
- 1:20:25fighter. And then he puts on a nitrile
- 1:20:27glove. And again, again, the cameraman
- 1:20:30is kind enough. Yeah, the polite cameraman.
- 1:20:33And. He just, like, takes his hand
- 1:20:36and just, like, jabs into the bag and just, yeah, he did it
- 1:20:41because he thought since they're newborns, they could maybe,
- 1:20:44like, adapt to the virus and become immune to it.
- 1:20:48And then he shouts some really upsetting things.
- 1:20:50He's like, it's better for them this way anyway.
- 1:20:52Do you know what those monsters would have done if they'd found
- 1:20:55these babies? They would have fucked these
- 1:20:56babies. They're all Jacob Black.
- 1:20:59He's oh God, he's not. Zero days since you mentioned
- 1:21:03Twilight on the podcast. This is the type of guy that
- 1:21:07you're not wrong man, but you're just still kind of an asshole.
- 1:21:11Yeah, This is why we have ethics review boards for scientific
- 1:21:15studies and testings. Well, why we used to.
- 1:21:18Yeah, like, I mean, yeah, that probably would have been the
- 1:21:21outcome, but maybe try to actually protect them, you know,
- 1:21:24like, instead of just like, well, they're already fucked
- 1:21:26anyway, so let's just go ahead and end them.
- 1:21:28Especially because babies notoriously have no immune
- 1:21:31system. So like.
- 1:21:33You fucking idiot for a virologist.
- 1:21:35Here, Yeah, like we know this is not how that link and this is
- 1:21:38the kind of misinformation people have about vaccines or
- 1:21:40they're like they're just injecting you with COVID, like
- 1:21:43yes, but no. Yeah, like, I mean, that's kind
- 1:21:46of how all. Yeah, like you have to inject a
- 1:21:49tiny little bit to so your body's exposed to it and knows
- 1:21:52how to fight it. Yeah, it's not just like the
- 1:21:55disease you're being injected with.
- 1:21:57It's other shit too. I don't know enough.
- 1:21:59I'm not. We're too stupid for this, but
- 1:22:01we at least understand that. We at least understand you don't
- 1:22:04just shoot infected blood into babies.
- 1:22:06Yeah, yeah. Come on.
- 1:22:07Yeah, we know that. So while all this is happening,
- 1:22:11we see Jim has arrived at the hospital and while this has also
- 1:22:15been happening, cat like in a panic text Jim.
- 1:22:18She's like, hey, and the hospital still upstairs,
- 1:22:20maternity ward guy has a gun and.
- 1:22:24Yeah, and she's not having a reaction, so he's like, all
- 1:22:27right, cool, you're coming with me to the helipad.
- 1:22:28They're 5 minutes away. I need you to help me.
- 1:22:31They get out and as soon as they get out, she looks down where
- 1:22:35the asshole was. Well, it still is, but his axe
- 1:22:38is gone and she goes, where is the axe?
- 1:22:40One of the other people has finally the two people that were
- 1:22:42behind him and this guy. This guy wasn't such a
- 1:22:45pretentious ass because he's like shut the fuck up.
- 1:22:48Like she's warning you of a fucking potential threat here.
- 1:22:51And then he like powers through and so my behind the corner
- 1:22:54comes out with the axe and cuts his fucking foot off.
- 1:22:58And then that other one comes up and vomits into his.
- 1:23:01Foot vomits into his fucking that's again.
- 1:23:05Who fucking thinks of that? That's the imaginative like.
- 1:23:08Because it was intentional. Yeah, yeah, he.
- 1:23:10Was he aims that puke yeah, he was a little he has a little
- 1:23:13vomit gun he. Took this little gun now he 3D
- 1:23:16printed by the way. Very interesting.
- 1:23:19And of course, because it was 3D printed, it jams.
- 1:23:22It jams and it backfires into him.
- 1:23:25Like literally like it backfires.
- 1:23:26It explodes in his hand. So he's like trying to run to
- 1:23:30the helipad, but he's like starting to get sick.
- 1:23:34And Jim is now in there and Cat can immediately tell he's
- 1:23:38infected. And so she grabs the virologist
- 1:23:40keys and gets behind the locked gate.
- 1:23:43Yeah, Jim goes over to the virologist and like finishes him
- 1:23:47off 1st. This gives Kat just enough time
- 1:23:50to unlock the door and get behind the gate and lock it for
- 1:23:52Jim to not be able to get hurt. And then she's starting to kind
- 1:23:56of back up to the roof and he's like, please, Kat, please.
- 1:23:59When you called me, God, this is fucking heartbreaking.
- 1:24:03It's like, you sounded so scared and I knew I needed to be with
- 1:24:06you. I've never known what my purpose
- 1:24:08was in life. And my purpose was to come to
- 1:24:10you as you were so scared. So that way I could cut off your
- 1:24:15tits and peel off your skin. And he's.
- 1:24:19Crying and she starts sobbing, but then her sobs turn into this
- 1:24:24kind of manic laughter. That one, they do a good job.
- 1:24:28It's a very it's an ambiguous thing we have.
- 1:24:30Here it's ambiguous. I do think especially because of
- 1:24:34the manic way she runs out, she has been fairly collected
- 1:24:38despite everything so far. And I think the manic way she
- 1:24:42ran out there, she would have known if she was in her rational
- 1:24:44mind that like, they're going to shoot her.
- 1:24:46She runs out there like that. See, I just thought that like,
- 1:24:50that was her breaking point. She all the things that happened
- 1:24:55today. She had this sweet little moment
- 1:24:57with Jim. She finally got Jim again.
- 1:24:58And then he said the nicest thing he's probably ever said to
- 1:25:02her. And then he ruins it by saying
- 1:25:04he's going to cut off her tits. And then she's like, that's a
- 1:25:07like, that's when you like have like that.
- 1:25:08I'm sad but I I can't help but laugh like my life is fucking
- 1:25:11ruined. Yeah.
- 1:25:13So like, I think that she was my interpretation, she was fine.
- 1:25:17My interpretation is that she was just like she didn't have a
- 1:25:20full immunity, she was just a slower.
- 1:25:22Yeah, I thought. Progression.
- 1:25:24Because like the virologist, like we saw, he's not exactly
- 1:25:27right about everything. Yeah, he had a lot of
- 1:25:29speculation, but you know. And we've seen it throughout the
- 1:25:31movie. Some of the people instantly
- 1:25:33turn, like the second they're exposed, and some of them it
- 1:25:35takes a little bit. So I think she was just one, it
- 1:25:39takes a little bit longer. That's my interpretation.
- 1:25:41But I do agree, I think it's purposefully meant to be
- 1:25:44ambiguous. Like we never, cuz we never see
- 1:25:46her eyes. That's one of the things is that
- 1:25:48the actors all have like black squares.
- 1:25:50Yeah, whenever they they're turned so and.
- 1:25:54That's probably why we don't get a face shot with her going
- 1:25:57upstairs. Yep.
- 1:25:58Yeah. But yeah, she goes outside and
- 1:25:59just hear gunshots from the rooftop and that's it.
- 1:26:03It's dead. That's it.
- 1:26:04So yeah, that's how the movie ends.
- 1:26:08I'm keeping mine out of nine. Man this movie is so fucking
- 1:26:11strong. I'm gonna keep mine at 8.5.
- 1:26:14Like I said, the main thing that I think I would probably change,
- 1:26:16we're gonna still be in an 8.75 is I just want a little bit
- 1:26:20nuanced to like all of the depravity that's happening.
- 1:26:24That's such a weird thing to say, but.
- 1:26:26I, you know, I feel like they maybe like did it there when the
- 1:26:29guy's like, I'm vomiting in your foot.
- 1:26:31I thought that he like. This is gross.
- 1:26:33This is gross. Who thinks of tossing off toes
- 1:26:35and vomiting into the foot? Yeah, this is new.
- 1:26:37Yeah. Yeah, So what do we think Talia
- 1:26:41thought? Well, let me tell you what Talia
- 1:26:43thought. She was not, yeah, she was not
- 1:26:45having it. She was.
- 1:26:51You can't read through nothing, can you?
- 1:26:54I see tummy. Jesse got told by the karaoke
- 1:26:57guy last night. He was like, you need to write
- 1:26:59better, be better. Yeah, he was like, I couldn't
- 1:27:01read this. He's like, if I didn't know who
- 1:27:03Kim Carnes was, I wouldn't have known what your song was.
- 1:27:05And I went to Jesse the night before reading the grocery and I
- 1:27:08was like Jesse, what the fuck is this?
- 1:27:10You need to write better man. I don't know what this word is.
- 1:27:12It looks like this is butter, but I don't think this is
- 1:27:15better. That's his tummy.
- 1:27:17Butter, Butter tummy. Button.
- 1:27:20She was hitting her button. Oh yeah, she hit it like 7 times
- 1:27:23in a row. She kept going.
- 1:27:24Talia. Yeah, it's like Bill Nye the
- 1:27:27science guy. Maybe it's just like the science
- 1:27:29guys in this movie. We need Bill, Bill, Bill.
- 1:27:32Science guy Yeah. So, yeah, I think Talia didn't
- 1:27:36really like it. She doesn't like people being
- 1:27:39mean. She understands the throwing up,
- 1:27:40though, because she does that. And here's a fun fact about all
- 1:27:44of our animals, when they throw up, their instinct is to go
- 1:27:46throw up into the floor registers and we have to chase
- 1:27:50them when they're vomiting so that way we don't get vomit in
- 1:27:53our air vents. It's easy.
- 1:27:54And they think that we're punishing them for vomiting and
- 1:27:56we're like, no, just please don't vomit into our air vents.
- 1:27:59It's either there or under the bed.
- 1:28:01It's never in a place that's easy to clean up, no.
- 1:28:04Yeah. So yeah, anyway, I think Talia
- 1:28:06will give this A7, OK. Is Zoe's ultimate warrior.
- 1:28:11I've been thinking about this and I think it's Jim because
- 1:28:14first thing in the morning they get into a fight and to ease the
- 1:28:18tension he asks for food. Not bad.
- 1:28:22I was going to say Molly, because Molly, like Zoe,
- 1:28:26barnacled on the scout. She needed friendship and she
- 1:28:31she finally had her. Good for her moment, you know
- 1:28:33what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:35OK. Yeah, I'll, I'll give her Molly,
- 1:28:37OK. Yeah.
- 1:28:39OK. Who did you relate?
- 1:28:42To Oh boy, I yeah, this is a weird one because we don't have
- 1:28:48enough time to truly know these people before chaos arrives.
- 1:28:52Well, I feel like I relate to Jim because of the whole like
- 1:28:55the phone thing and yeah, yeah. That's true.
- 1:28:59That's relatable for me. And you also relate to a cat
- 1:29:01with the book reading thing. Yeah.
- 1:29:05Yeah, I I think if I were to relate to somebody I'd relate
- 1:29:11to, it's either Jim or I'm going to give Cat the credit on the
- 1:29:15joy cons. OK, yeah, I feel like that would
- 1:29:18be, I feel like he would have been fine with the red and blue
- 1:29:20one that came with the console. And she'd be like, she'd be
- 1:29:23like, we need a second set because there's two of us and we
- 1:29:25don't always want to have to use like the tiny half joy con.
- 1:29:28Yeah, exactly. And I think it makes sense for
- 1:29:31us to have different colors. I think we should have a splash
- 1:29:33of color in the house anyway. I agree and I relate to that.
- 1:29:35So I like I every time I watch this movie, I see that I'm like
- 1:29:39love it, dig it. Yeah, good for you all.
- 1:29:41OK, OK, so so let's do a dream sequel.
- 1:29:47OK, the dream sequel. Do we?
- 1:29:52The sadness, too, even sadder. Do we do like a continue from
- 1:30:00here or do we do like a Side Story type deal?
- 1:30:03I think we need to do, I think it needs to be kind of like a 28
- 1:30:08weeks later type situation where we see like people that have
- 1:30:11survived the initial, like the outbreak, initial outbreak and
- 1:30:14see what they're doing and how they're handling stuff.
- 1:30:18OK, I like that. Like, I mean, we're borrowing
- 1:30:20from existing IPS anyway, so. This movie kind of had that
- 1:30:23already. Yeah.
- 1:30:24Like, I mean, it's based off of that book, but also like 28 Days
- 1:30:28Later the virus is the very rapid as well.
- 1:30:32Yeah, and it's and it's called rage, so.
- 1:30:34Yeah, exactly. So I like that.
- 1:30:36Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:30:39Just like another group of people, like people have had
- 1:30:41more time to adapt. The world has gone to shit.
- 1:30:46I want to see some of the people that are like, again, I'm going
- 1:30:49to see some more of the sociology of the people infected
- 1:30:52with the virus. Maybe we start seeing some of
- 1:30:54them recover. Let's let's go to a different
- 1:30:56country too. OK, but no, think about it
- 1:30:59though, like see some of them starting to recover and they
- 1:31:01have to deal with what they yeah, the reproduction.
- 1:31:05Like are we having court cases for some of these?
- 1:31:07You know there's going to be, it's going to be like in,
- 1:31:10there's a. Movie that.
- 1:31:11That happens the one in the office building.
- 1:31:15Oh. We've talked about it.
- 1:31:18Mayhem. Mayhem.
- 1:31:19Yeah, yeah. Where like he said that like he
- 1:31:21couldn't be held accountable because of the virus.
- 1:31:23Like we're going to see a similar.
- 1:31:24Oh my God, that movie is almost kind of like this.
- 1:31:25Too. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:26Holy. Shit, I forgot about that.
- 1:31:28Yeah, That would be really interesting.
- 1:31:29Yeah. I would love to see that.
- 1:31:31Yeah. So I go time junk like it's
- 1:31:33still a thing. Like maybe there's.
- 1:31:37I wanted to see there's like a oh faction of people that are
- 1:31:42like anti vax for this even too. Yeah, and we would have to say
- 1:31:46that. And, like, people like, also
- 1:31:47doing lawsuits for, like, because they refuse to get the
- 1:31:50vaccine and they got fired from their job.
- 1:31:52And so then they're angry. And then we start saying, like,
- 1:31:54people that, like, the viruses may be mutated once more and
- 1:31:58it's not as obvious signs. So then it turns into a whole
- 1:32:00like, oh, do you actually have the virus or are you fucking
- 1:32:03asshole? Hell yeah.
- 1:32:05Oh man. Yeah.
- 1:32:07All right, you can take this into some really interesting
- 1:32:09directions. So yeah, that's.
- 1:32:10I like that. Yeah.
- 1:32:12Please. Rob Shabazz.
- 1:32:15We'll shabazz it up with you. Look, you know we're going to
- 1:32:17half ass it and you're going to have a shitty sequel or you're
- 1:32:21going to hire us and we're going to go and make it our entire
- 1:32:23lives. Which one?
- 1:32:25Balls in your court, buddy? There we go.
- 1:32:28We have the job now, OK. Tack online.
- 1:32:35It's not called the happiness. I've been saying that a lot.
- 1:32:40Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:32:42That was that was my pitch. I think my pitch was good.
- 1:32:44OK, let's do that. I'm good with that cuz like,
- 1:32:46yeah. I mean the bar is really low cuz
- 1:32:48they didn't even come up with a tagline.
- 1:32:49Yeah, they couldn't even do it. Yeah.
- 1:32:51See Rob, we even have tagline. Yeah, man.
- 1:32:53Like we'll have that for the second one.
- 1:32:56Yeah, Yeah, come on. Even better.
- 1:32:57See, that's the where we don't have ass.
- 1:33:00The sadness, too. Even sadder, it's still not
- 1:33:03called the happiness. There you go, that's our pitch.
- 1:33:09There we go, we got it. Call us for negotiations.
- 1:33:13We'll call you. OK, I guess time for reviews.
- 1:33:18OK. All right, so I pulled a little
- 1:33:22review off of IMDb. Little review.
- 1:33:26They rated it 4 out of 10. Ding.
- 1:33:30It's titled Gore for Gore's sake.
- 1:33:33As a big fan of Asian cinema, I was hoping for a lot from the
- 1:33:36sadness but it totally let me down.
- 1:33:39I get the pandemic storyline, I love the wall to wall gore
- 1:33:42effects and emphasis on practical mayhem, but other than
- 1:33:44that this is an entirely hollow experience.
- 1:33:47The acting is wonky at best and the characterization rings
- 1:33:51totally hollow. The attempts at social
- 1:33:53commentary are heavy-handed at best.
- 1:33:55Worst of all is the gross out humor which takes things far too
- 1:33:59far and leads to this being mean spirited and unappealing.
- 1:34:03What I was hoping for was something more like Korea's fine
- 1:34:06project Wolf Hunting, which was the same level of bloodshed but
- 1:34:10also delivers a thrilling story at the same time.
- 1:34:12This It's just score for the gore's sake.
- 1:34:16I mean, yeah, it is gore for gore's sake, but that's kind of
- 1:34:18the whole point of it. It's.
- 1:34:19The point of the movie, yeah. Yeah, it's not like, oh, we're
- 1:34:22going to give you a thin premise and then just turn it into an
- 1:34:25excuse for your for your splatter gore.
- 1:34:28I do think that the acting, I disagree about the acting.
- 1:34:32I thought everybody did a fantastic job in this, yeah.
- 1:34:35And I wouldn't say anybody had a weak performance.
- 1:34:37And I also don't think that the political commentary was
- 1:34:39heavy-handed. They just used actual words
- 1:34:43people said. Yeah, I've like one thing that I
- 1:34:47can understand with this right here is we all got tired of
- 1:34:50hearing that shit over and over again.
- 1:34:52Like you got like fucking apathy from hearing it over and over
- 1:34:57again. If I like, I swear to God,
- 1:34:58hearing what was it unprecedented times like, yeah,
- 1:35:03that fucking killed me. I don't want to hear that shit
- 1:35:05anymore. Like it's but like.
- 1:35:07Yeah, that was something my mom and I used to text each other
- 1:35:10and be like. Do you remember precedented
- 1:35:11times? I sure miss those.
- 1:35:13It's just, I hated it so much. But like, it's, it's a fresh
- 1:35:16thing. But I mean, obviously after such
- 1:35:18a huge event that impacted the entire world, like we're going
- 1:35:21to tell stories about. It and also that was the thing
- 1:35:24like when the virus was like when the pandemic first started,
- 1:35:27that was what people were talking about.
- 1:35:29Like it wasn't like this wasn't forced dialogue.
- 1:35:33I felt very like true to how things happen.
- 1:35:35Like cuz like we, I don't think there was a single Uber we went
- 1:35:38into before the shutdowns happened where people haven't
- 1:35:40like one of the drivers wasn't like, So what do you think about
- 1:35:43this COVID virus? Yeah, and none of them are
- 1:35:45really cool about. It yeah.
- 1:35:47And like, I don't know, I just think it's I think it's pretty
- 1:35:51realistic. It's not like I'm gonna take
- 1:35:53another example. So the last season of The Boys,
- 1:35:56like there was a meeting, like a secret meeting of senators or
- 1:36:00whatever, and they took actual like conservative talking
- 1:36:05points. And those felt jammed into the
- 1:36:08discussion, like, OK, we're going to take this verbatim word
- 1:36:11for word quote somebody said, and we're going to plug it into
- 1:36:14the script. But they didn't do it in a very
- 1:36:16natural way. It was like, hey, we're spoofing
- 1:36:18real life by using their actual words now.
- 1:36:21But they didn't do it in a way that felt natural.
- 1:36:23This felt natural. In that instance, it took me out
- 1:36:26of it and this one right here, I think it's interesting because a
- 1:36:29lot of times like we for a long time, this type of movie was
- 1:36:33pure fiction. But for the first time for all
- 1:36:36of us, like be experienced this shit in our lifetime.
- 1:36:39Not necessarily the degree that this movie takes it, but we can
- 1:36:43all relate to it. I will say the best thing about
- 1:36:46the pandemic is it's given me a whole new appreciation for
- 1:36:48zombie and virus movies because we absolutely, for 100% fact now
- 1:36:53know that people will behave like assholes.
- 1:36:54Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:36:55Like it's not unrealistic. Yeah, like it.
- 1:36:58Just like it needed to be told post pandemic, yeah, we needed a
- 1:37:02story to be told like that because we like had like a new,
- 1:37:05totally different understanding of it now and we could relate to
- 1:37:09it. So we were able to like speak in
- 1:37:10a more relatable way about it. So I don't know, I I get it if
- 1:37:14it if you were tired of hearing that shit, but like it.
- 1:37:18The story was, yeah, I disagree about it being heavy-handed,
- 1:37:21but. Yeah, me too.
- 1:37:22You know, like you said, I get it.
- 1:37:24All right, so let's do some listener reviews.
- 1:37:27So we'll start off with our buddy Chat.
- 1:37:29OK? Chat says easily the best feel
- 1:37:32bad movie I've seen in ages. Feel bad movie.
- 1:37:35That's a good way to describe this.
- 1:37:37If you're a fan of bleakness, insane violence and gore, and
- 1:37:40utter nihilism in cinema, then stop what you are doing and
- 1:37:43watch this. The film does an excellent job
- 1:37:46of letting you fall in love with the leads, Cat and Jim, and you
- 1:37:49worry about them throughout the film, even down to the slim
- 1:37:52sliver of hope at the end. That seems too good to be true,
- 1:37:55and it is. The only negative I have is a
- 1:37:58very tangential one that this is the story that almost seems like
- 1:38:03a direct whiff from the Garth Enus comic cross, but not as
- 1:38:07depraved as the comic is. No, not ten.
- 1:38:10OK. Wow, if the comic is more
- 1:38:13depraved than this, I don't. Yeah, I'm curious to know what
- 1:38:16direction that goes. And you said that was like kind
- 1:38:18of his thing is that he wanted to have the people, like, feel
- 1:38:21like more aware of what they were doing, right.
- 1:38:23Yeah. And I think that that kind of
- 1:38:24makes it. You wanted to like, communicate.
- 1:38:27Like, yeah, because. You know, like it's a whole
- 1:38:29other type of deal right there. OK, over on Instagram, we have
- 1:38:37Pinot carrots, I think is that who says?
- 1:38:42Movie made me ill in the head for a few weeks, Then I watched
- 1:38:45it again and really appreciated it.
- 1:38:48You know what? I feel like that is one that,
- 1:38:49like, you probably do need, like, another watch if it really
- 1:38:53had that kind of a visceral impact on you because like, you
- 1:38:56know what's coming. And you said, yeah, like when we
- 1:38:59watched it the other night, you're like, yeah, Second time
- 1:39:02still didn't feel any better. Yeah, like, and it's one of
- 1:39:04those that like I appreciate the movie and it's not one of those
- 1:39:07that I'm going to say I would never watch again, but like I'd
- 1:39:11have to definitely be. It's not going to be like, hey,
- 1:39:13let's put on a movie. How about the sadness?
- 1:39:15Like it's going to be like, I'm already having kind of like
- 1:39:17weird feelings. Let's just purge these feelings
- 1:39:20right now. Yeah, and the final review, Sam
- 1:39:24X16 O 5 or I think this is Chris says a Taiwan live action
- 1:39:31version of the comic cross by Garthiness in the best possible
- 1:39:35way. So that means a good adaptation
- 1:39:40I guess. Yeah, so I guess that means that
- 1:39:42we just need to read the. It sounds like we need to read
- 1:39:44that book, yeah. We need.
- 1:39:46It's a graphic novel. We need an Enus.
- 1:39:48We need to get a little Enus. We need to get a little Enus.
- 1:39:51Garth Enus? Is that his name?
- 1:39:53Garth Enus? Yeah.
- 1:39:55What a name. Yeah, that was a just from how
- 1:40:00you could describe my style in high school.
- 1:40:02It was just a lot of Garthiness, Garth.
- 1:40:07Enus. OK, OK.
- 1:40:08And that was it. So thanks everybody for sending
- 1:40:12in reviews. Appreciate that.
- 1:40:14Again, I apologize for ruining your night.
- 1:40:16If you've watched this movie before listening to this
- 1:40:19episode, or if you plan on watching afterwards, sorry we're
- 1:40:22gonna ruin your night, but you know it's gonna do it in the
- 1:40:26best possible way. You know it won't ruin your
- 1:40:29night. What watching The Texas Chainsaw
- 1:40:31Massacre, the 1974 classic. That's a fucking classic.
- 1:40:34That'll cheer you right up. Where can people watch that,
- 1:40:37Chelsea? That's a very good question.
- 1:40:39Right now they can watch it on Tubi, Peacock, Pluto TV, Plex
- 1:40:43Prime freebie, or if you have a YouTube Prime Time or YouTube TV
- 1:40:48Premium subscription. You can also rent it from Google
- 1:40:50Play and Fandango at home, so it's a very watchable movie.
- 1:40:53Yeah. So you got free options and you
- 1:40:55got ad free options. So whatever, we're gonna watch
- 1:40:58it on our Blu-ray cuz we own that shit.
- 1:41:00Cuz this is this is Travis's time to shine.
- 1:41:05I shine with Halloween, but this is my secondary shine right
- 1:41:08here. I fucking love that afterglow.
- 1:41:11Yeah, I fucking love Texas Chainsaw.
- 1:41:13I'm super excited to kick that one off.
- 1:41:15So be on the lookout for that. And you know who needs an excuse
- 1:41:19to watch that again? But go ahead and do it.
- 1:41:20Get prepared. But in the meantime, I think we
- 1:41:23should shout out some bubbies. I think we should.
- 1:41:26Joe. Freakatron.
- 1:41:27As is his name, Amber, Michael, Chad Ward, Zombie, Tyler and
- 1:41:32Johnny all. Right.
- 1:41:34You went out of order a little bit, but you got them all.
- 1:41:36Yeah, I got. I panicked for a second.
- 1:41:37I was like, no, I don't know what happened there, but like,
- 1:41:41yeah, OK. But thanks everybody.
