- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the Boutleg keV Show. We got a special guest,
- 0:02Speaker 1: my guy Kyle is here. Man. Thank you keV, Thank
- 0:04Speaker 1: you keV. Yes, shouts out to keV Man. Yeah. So
- 0:09Speaker 1: are we back to independent now? We're back to independent, bro,
- 0:12Speaker 1: which is how it all started. It's how it started.
- 0:14Speaker 1: That's that's that's like, that's home for me, you feel me?
- 0:18Speaker 1: Independent is like that's comfortable. That's how I know operate best. Yeah,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I feel like you know, for people who don't know you,
- 0:24Speaker 1: kind of like there was like a cool wave of
- 0:27Speaker 1: like you guys like yourself. There was the guy who
- 0:31Speaker 1: looked like he should be in like a fifties movie
- 0:33Speaker 1: with the glasses. Uh, fucking gorgeous looking guy with the
- 0:37Speaker 1: hair you would make musical. No, no, he kind of
- 0:41Speaker 1: he was kind of like the GZ that didn't make it,
- 0:44Speaker 1: the GZ that didn't make it. Gorgeous looking guy front
- 0:47Speaker 1: of the fifties. Oh you mean do you why? D
- 0:50Speaker 1: you why? And then futuristic and like you know what
- 0:53Speaker 1: do you why? Though? Is actually he's doing he's doing
- 0:56Speaker 1: some cool ship. Yeah, he's doing his thing. Do I
- 0:58Speaker 1: do you? I? But I just remember like that it's
- 1:00Speaker 1: kind of like you know, like because I was real
- 1:01Speaker 1: cool with Futuristic at the time, and so like I
- 1:03Speaker 1: would kind of always see your shit and his shit,
- 1:05Speaker 1: and but like independently you kind of got it out
- 1:08Speaker 1: the mud. So you know, there's a lot been going
- 1:12Speaker 1: on with you, man. Yeah, yeah, what brought you back
- 1:14Speaker 1: to kind of leaving the major label system and getting
- 1:18Speaker 1: back to what you what you know best? You know what?
- 1:21Speaker 1: For me, it was like when when I when I
- 1:25Speaker 1: partnered with you know, a major, It was a cool
- 1:29Speaker 1: experience because it's like, damn, you know, you have his
- 1:30Speaker 1: budget for everything. Everything you're doing is coming out at
- 1:33Speaker 1: like the top tier things. But you start realizing pretty quickly,
- 1:36Speaker 1: like there's not much that they can do for your
- 1:41Speaker 1: music to like explode at this this expectation that they've
- 1:46Speaker 1: set you at now, you know what I mean. Like,
- 1:48Speaker 1: really all of my success was organic as fuck, you
- 1:54Speaker 1: feel me? Like my marketing advice from people I was
- 1:59Speaker 1: working with was to do this, you know what I'm saying.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And it's like, well, you're getting paid for this, and
- 2:05Speaker 1: they're no shit, they're getting paid a lot for that,
- 2:07Speaker 1: you know, and and you got to recoup whatever they're
- 2:09Speaker 1: getting paid exactly. And so and it's no like shade
- 2:13Speaker 1: to them at all, because my time working with Atlantic
- 2:15Speaker 1: was awesome. But I just realized, I'm like, oh, financially,
- 2:18Speaker 1: it makes way more sense for me to just do
- 2:21Speaker 1: this thing myself, because that's all they're asking me to
- 2:24Speaker 1: do anyways, Just be you and hopefully something pops off.
- 2:28Speaker 1: But if it doesn't pop off, we're gonna be like disappointed,
- 2:32Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And now it's like being independent.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I'm getting back to just making music because I think
- 2:37Speaker 1: it's cool, not because you're chasing. I'm chasing some sort
- 2:41Speaker 1: of smash and especially for me, the smash record they
- 2:44Speaker 1: want me to chase is like a diamond song, Like
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like I cannot repeat that
- 2:52Speaker 1: success for you at the drop of a dime. And
- 2:54Speaker 1: also I don't want to spend the rest of my
- 2:56Speaker 1: career trying to repeat that for y'all, you know what
- 2:59Speaker 1: I mean. And then also like just all that goes
- 3:01Speaker 1: into that, right like like in the major label system,
- 3:04Speaker 1: they're going to force you into the studio of people
- 3:06Speaker 1: that you don't want to be with and all that,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and then they're going to maybe force the song to
- 3:10Speaker 1: drop that you might not feel crazy about. But then
- 3:12Speaker 1: they put all this fucking money behind it, and then
- 3:14Speaker 1: you're like, well, what what the fuck? Like I gotta
- 3:17Speaker 1: fucking that comes out of my fucking that you add
- 3:20Speaker 1: to my balance? Yeah, yeah, one one, that's adding to
- 3:23Speaker 1: my tab and then two it's like really and and me,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm I'm really easy to work with, Like
- 3:30Speaker 1: I'm impressionable, right, Like I'm nice, I'm easy going, and
- 3:34Speaker 1: I'm like flowing with it. And now I'm noticing that
- 3:37Speaker 1: like the team I've built, you know, is sort of
- 3:40Speaker 1: pushing me in a direction that it's not necessarily good
- 3:42Speaker 1: for me. It's not healthy for me, you know, Like
- 3:45Speaker 1: it's not healthy for me as an artist. Like I
- 3:47Speaker 1: was put here to make music and to like honestly
- 3:50Speaker 1: go against the grain. It just so happened at this
- 3:53Speaker 1: one moment in time, me going against the grain became
- 3:57Speaker 1: the popular thing. But if you ask anybody who's ever
- 4:01Speaker 1: worked with me, I'm always in the studio trying to
- 4:03Speaker 1: do whatever is most left. That's just how I operate, right,
- 4:07Speaker 1: you know. And so when you have this whole building
- 4:09Speaker 1: behind you and it's like nah, we going left, They're like, no, Kyle,
- 4:12Speaker 1: fuck go right, man, go nah, I can't you know? Yeah? No?
- 4:17Speaker 1: Was it like because when you have a record like
- 4:19Speaker 1: I Spy, which is like, like you said, it's diamond,
- 4:21Speaker 1: It's not diamond, but it's going to be diamond. It's
- 4:23Speaker 1: like seven crazy going eight times insane and it streams
- 4:28Speaker 1: like two hundred and fifty million times a year. It's insane.
- 4:31Speaker 1: It's like one of those insane hit record anomalies. And
- 4:36Speaker 1: was it like a curse? And I mean, obviously you're
- 4:38Speaker 1: gonna love the money, you go love the head. That
- 4:40Speaker 1: shit put a lot of money in your pocket, But like,
- 4:43Speaker 1: is there a curse? That's the reason I can go independent.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I never need to be with I probably never need
- 4:48Speaker 1: to be with a major again because of that song.
- 4:51Speaker 1: You know, it's amazing, And it's like that's where my
- 4:54Speaker 1: true joy is coming from, me being able to do
- 4:56Speaker 1: art the way I want to do it, not because
- 4:58Speaker 1: I do it to make money Financial Pillow exactly. Yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 1: But do you think, like, just in terms of like
- 5:05Speaker 1: Atlantic's perspective, when that's like your first I mean, I
- 5:08Speaker 1: guess kind of your first record with them, If you
- 5:10Speaker 1: feel like and it's like a diamond song, it kind
- 5:14Speaker 1: of like the expectation now is like exactly, So it's
- 5:19Speaker 1: like no matter what and that, and you're like, yo,
- 5:21Speaker 1: I'm like an artist, I do like cool artistic shit. Yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I'm like I got here for a reason, but now
- 5:27Speaker 1: I'm those guys are going to have you be like, yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 1: well we got to follow this up straight up. And
- 5:32Speaker 1: that's why I don't like take anything away from them
- 5:35Speaker 1: and what they're trying to do. I think just for me,
- 5:37Speaker 1: like the situation just no longer fits what makes what
- 5:42Speaker 1: brings me joy, and that's what life is about. You
- 5:44Speaker 1: feel me having as much joy as possible until you
- 5:48Speaker 1: finally are no longer here, and I think, yeah, it
- 5:51Speaker 1: just didn't add up for bringing me joy anymore, because
- 5:53Speaker 1: it's like y'all, one, you're like, our idea for how
- 5:56Speaker 1: to pop this off is just to me to shoot tiktoks,
- 5:59Speaker 1: like I can do that all my own straight up,
- 6:01Speaker 1: thanks to the advice. Thank you for the advice. Then two,
- 6:03Speaker 1: it's like okay, yeah, that that song that y'all want
- 6:08Speaker 1: me to follow up is like a once sent a
- 6:10Speaker 1: generational song, Like, so I can't dedicate the next five
- 6:14Speaker 1: years of my career to just trying to put that
- 6:16Speaker 1: on the board. I'm not gonna have fun. I need
- 6:18Speaker 1: to be able to go just do shit I want
- 6:19Speaker 1: to do without feeling like I'm letting y'all down every time.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Like I said, like now we're going left fucking God
- 6:25Speaker 1: please right, Nah, I can't. It felt like there was
- 6:28Speaker 1: a couple of records that you dropped that like felt
- 6:31Speaker 1: very forced. Yeah, you know, and I I agree. The
- 6:35Speaker 1: thing is with me, I can kind of make any
- 6:37Speaker 1: kind of genre of music, right, And that's not like
- 6:41Speaker 1: trying to big myself up too much. It's just the truth,
- 6:43Speaker 1: you know. I mean, like I can go in the
- 6:45Speaker 1: studio with any person from any background, any language, anywhere
- 6:48Speaker 1: in the world, and I'm gonna make a slap with you.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So like I'm always down to try some shit. But
- 6:54Speaker 1: I'm realizing, oh, I'm trying this and y'all are excited
- 6:56Speaker 1: about it because you're just thinking dollar signs and that's
- 6:59Speaker 1: not how our is supposed to be. Made you feel
- 7:01Speaker 1: me like Quincy Jones told me, And it's the truest thing.
- 7:07Speaker 1: The moment you're in the studio and you start thinking
- 7:09Speaker 1: about money or you start thinking about financial success, and
- 7:13Speaker 1: that's what you're talking about. God gets up and leaves,
- 7:16Speaker 1: And if God is not in there making songs with you,
- 7:18Speaker 1: what makes you think it's gonna be hard. It's not.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Everything that's fire in the world is fire because God
- 7:24Speaker 1: helped it be lit like that, Like, if he's not
- 7:27Speaker 1: in the studio, which you making music, it's not gonna
- 7:29Speaker 1: slab And the moment you start focusing on my money
- 7:32Speaker 1: that she's not gonna slap, so it's like, yo, yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 1: just some of those records, I felt like, we're we're
- 7:38Speaker 1: doing this because I'm so nice and I'm trying to
- 7:41Speaker 1: appease this. Y'all just want another massive, massive song, and
- 7:45Speaker 1: it's like I can't. I can't spend my time doing that.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And it also like obviously the situation was probably very
- 7:50Speaker 1: beneficial because it, I mean, when you're on a major
- 7:53Speaker 1: there is a notoriety that comes with that. There is
- 7:56Speaker 1: a you know, and I feel invisible and like, you know, shit,
- 8:01Speaker 1: you got into the acting game. The Netflix movie was
- 8:04Speaker 1: super dope. Yeah, I'm just trying to remember that. I
- 8:08Speaker 1: just remember you puked yes after party after parting. That
- 8:11Speaker 1: shit was great. It was like realistic too. It was
- 8:15Speaker 1: like kind of like it was like low key, like
- 8:17Speaker 1: a little like Davish before Dave. Yeah, you know what,
- 8:20Speaker 1: it felt very like almost like a bio pick or something.
- 8:25Speaker 1: But the only thing is it was really close to
- 8:28Speaker 1: my life. But I think that was just the star
- 8:31Speaker 1: as aligning. Like the kids supposed to be maxed that's
- 8:33Speaker 1: one thing. Like his dad's supposed to be in the Marines,
- 8:36Speaker 1: that's another thing. It was like the East Coast version
- 8:38Speaker 1: of my actual life. You know, his manager being like
- 8:41Speaker 1: this other white dude that is his friend from where
- 8:44Speaker 1: he's from. It's like Nolan, you know what I mean.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It's like very yeah, It's like it's like the New
- 8:50Speaker 1: York version of me. The like I thought that movie
- 8:55Speaker 1: was great. Are you doing more of that? Like are
- 8:58Speaker 1: you gonna be doing more acting and stuff? Like yeah, yeah,
- 9:00Speaker 1: hell yeah I did. I was. I was lucky enough
- 9:03Speaker 1: to be in this uh Russo Brothers movie called Cherry
- 9:06Speaker 1: Fire starring uh yeah, starring Tom Holland, Michael Gandalafini, Sierra Bravos,
- 9:12Speaker 1: the two named Forrest Good like Spider Man's in it.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So it's like, yeah, I mean the movie's already out.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I haven't seen this. Yeah, it's already came out of
- 9:18Speaker 1: Apple and by the way, Tom, That's why, because who's
- 9:21Speaker 1: got my dog? My dog? Shout out to Apple plus
- 9:24Speaker 1: ted Lasso's gas. Yeah, ted Lasso's Hey, Cherry's gas. I'm
- 9:28Speaker 1: gonna check it out my free my free Uh what
- 9:30Speaker 1: was it? The free trial ran out? So I was like,
- 9:32Speaker 1: all right, well I knocked out ted Lasso. Now I
- 9:35Speaker 1: gotta sign up. I'm too busy watching you get a
- 9:38Speaker 1: fire stick and just call it a day, bro, Just
- 9:40Speaker 1: go on, bro, I got over that ship. Cody trying
- 9:42Speaker 1: to link sloading being all fucking slow. I'm like, dude,
- 9:45Speaker 1: I'm just gonna pay for everything. What am I doing?
- 9:48Speaker 1: You'd be like thirty minutes into a fucking bootleg link
- 9:50Speaker 1: on your hacked fire stick and this ship would freeze.
- 9:53Speaker 1: You'd have to find a new link. It was not
- 9:55Speaker 1: for sure, pay for the ship, man. Just just pay
- 9:58Speaker 1: for keV. You got it, bro keV, you have it,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you got it. I have every everything else. So I'm
- 10:04Speaker 1: a fucking paramount. Plus watching Apple plus Yellowstone right now,
- 10:08Speaker 1: get Apple plus you watch Yellowstone. I do. It's it's tight.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It's kind of like the real it's kind of like
- 10:15Speaker 1: the real, like cowboy version of succession. That's all it's
- 10:19Speaker 1: succession with like guns and more alcohol. That's like, that's
- 10:24Speaker 1: Dunton is a fucking gangster ass bitch. She's lit. She's lit.
- 10:28Speaker 1: It was like it's like Sons of Anarchy on on horses. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 1: it gives me succession vibes too. Yeah, because the family aspect,
- 10:35Speaker 1: and yeah, I'm still a touch of racism in there.
- 10:40Speaker 1: It's kind of like there's like this, It's like it's
- 10:42Speaker 1: like the Salt Bay, like just enough little It's a
- 10:46Speaker 1: great show, but let's see. Yeah, it's a lot of
- 10:49Speaker 1: white people in Montana. Then you got the one black
- 10:52Speaker 1: guy who's in the bunk house. Yeah, you know what
- 10:55Speaker 1: the thing is, Bro never says ship. I'm like, yo,
- 10:58Speaker 1: he doesn't say ship. He's just there just like we need,
- 11:01Speaker 1: we need, we need a black like diversity. Just give
- 11:03Speaker 1: one black dude, put him in there. I don't have
- 11:05Speaker 1: him say nothing. But I do love the show. Hey, Yellowstone,
- 11:07Speaker 1: I love the shot. I think it's fine. Kevin Costner's
- 11:09Speaker 1: from Compton. Kevin Costners from Compton, but Kevin Costner also
- 11:12Speaker 1: is from Ventura. What Yeah, I didn't know that. You know,
- 11:16Speaker 1: growing up in Ventura, you like everybody's like Kevin Costner,
- 11:20Speaker 1: he's like the most. He went to Bay High School.
- 11:22Speaker 1: He went to the high school that my fiance went to. Wow.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I actually met Kevin Costner before, like in Inventura. Yeah, Inventura.
- 11:29Speaker 1: We were doing like this venta like little I think
- 11:32Speaker 1: it was like a benefit concert, and all of a sudden,
- 11:36Speaker 1: this like kind of like security guard type dude walks
- 11:38Speaker 1: up and it's like, hey, you know, Kevin Costner is
- 11:41Speaker 1: like here, and I'm like shit, Kevin content like, yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 1: right there, Like you can say hi to him. It's
- 11:46Speaker 1: almost like an invitation to say what's up, but not
- 11:48Speaker 1: like Kevin cost wants to say hi to you, Just
- 11:51Speaker 1: just so you know he's right there. You can talk
- 11:52Speaker 1: to him, like oh shit, you know, I'm kind of nervous.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I walk up. I'm like yo, uh keV. I was like,
- 11:59Speaker 1: it's nice to meet you, manmind It's like, yeah, I
- 12:01Speaker 1: know you are. He's like, yeah, you're mister Ventura now,
- 12:04Speaker 1: and I like, wow, cry bro Kevin Costner called me
- 12:08Speaker 1: mister Ventura. You know it's crazy now that that's like
- 12:10Speaker 1: a title somebody has. But if anybody can give that
- 12:13Speaker 1: title out to something, yeah for sure him. Yeah, as
- 12:16Speaker 1: much as like Kevin Costner is a legend, feel the
- 12:18Speaker 1: Dreams Dances with the Wolves. If I meet Kevin Costerer today,
- 12:21Speaker 1: I'm calling him John Dunton, even call hi John. Yeah,
- 12:23Speaker 1: but that's even more lit because that means he's still
- 12:26Speaker 1: Like if if somebody can look at you like an actor, Dunton,
- 12:30Speaker 1: can I get a photo straight up as an actor?
- 12:31Speaker 1: If somebody can look at you and call you your
- 12:33Speaker 1: character's name, like, your shit is smacking right then and
- 12:37Speaker 1: there in the moment, you know what I mean. Yeah, yeah, yeah, No,
- 12:39Speaker 1: it's crazy because I'm on you know now, I'm on
- 12:41Speaker 1: the radio every night in Ventura shot out to Cue
- 12:44Speaker 1: and Mambo and those guys and sir. But I went
- 12:47Speaker 1: and had lunch, like downtow. Venture is a vibe. It's yeah,
- 12:51Speaker 1: come on, it's a big vibe right there. Yeah. Venture
- 12:54Speaker 1: is kind of like a special place because it's very
- 12:58Speaker 1: it's like anywhere you USA type vibe. It's just very small.
- 13:02Speaker 1: It's like the last small. It's like the small it's
- 13:04Speaker 1: the only like small town vibe you can catch in
- 13:08Speaker 1: like southern California. To me, that's like really like special
- 13:12Speaker 1: and it feels like it's own place. There's no place
- 13:13Speaker 1: like vent and when it's like twenty five minutes past
- 13:16Speaker 1: Calabasas or something, Yeah, exactly, it's here, like it's really here,
- 13:19Speaker 1: but it's not here. It's its own world, you know. Yeah, no,
- 13:22Speaker 1: it's it's ventur is a vibe man, Like I feel
- 13:25Speaker 1: like a lot of people who like, you know, ma homi.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Joey Boy would always tell people like, yo, man, you
- 13:28Speaker 1: gotta start telling people to like, you know, have weekend
- 13:32Speaker 1: trips to Ventura, like you know, a little staycations and
- 13:34Speaker 1: shit stay wait, who's this Joey Boy used to do.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Joe Boy. He used to be on the radio out there. Okay,
- 13:39Speaker 1: Joey Boy, stop stop giving up the secrets. Brouh. Don't
- 13:43Speaker 1: don't wonder nobody going up there. We trying and keep
- 13:45Speaker 1: this ship to ourselves. I'm sorry, keV. You can come.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Only the Dallas Cowboys are allowed. Yeah, facts, Oh yeah,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I used to watch it. I used to watch the
- 13:53Speaker 1: cowboys over there all the time, like a practice and whatnot.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Remember one time I walked up to Terrell owsed to
- 13:58Speaker 1: get like an autographed ball, and he kind of just
- 14:00Speaker 1: like gave me like a wave instead. Now it's like wow,
- 14:04Speaker 1: fuck you too, Fuck you, bro? Did you get anyone
- 14:06Speaker 1: to sign that ball? I got Mike Vandage yet that
- 14:10Speaker 1: sounds familiar, but I'm not sure exactly what he did.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Mike Vantage was a kicker for the Colts that ruined everything.
- 14:16Speaker 1: So oh yeah, not as cool as t O, but
- 14:19Speaker 1: I tried. What's up, y'all got to interrupt the Bootleg
- 14:22Speaker 1: cap podcast. We have a brand new sponsor. Hmmm, and
- 14:25Speaker 1: I love this sponsor. I've been giving them my money
- 14:27Speaker 1: for a long times. About time they gave some back.
- 14:30Speaker 1: My Bookie. Yes, that's right if you are a gambler.
- 14:34Speaker 1: If you're not a gambler, let me tell you, my
- 14:35Speaker 1: Bookie is the best place to go. All right. Super

- 15:01Speaker 1: they'll match a thousand dollars and you can get in
- 15:03Speaker 1: on all the action for Super Bowl fifty six. I mean, seriously,
- 15:08Speaker 1: Joe Burrow versus Matthew Stafford. The Rams are playing the
- 15:12Speaker 1: Super Bowl at home in LA. What does that even
- 15:14Speaker 1: mean because none of these home games I've been to him.
- 15:17Speaker 1: It's a lot of out outdoor fans coming in the
- 15:20Speaker 1: forty nine ers. It took that place over twice in
- 15:22Speaker 1: the last month. We'll see how the Bengals fans show up.
- 15:24Speaker 1: All right, this is the most important game of the year.
- 15:26Speaker 1: It's the biggest game of the year. You can get
- 15:28Speaker 1: paid by watching it. My bookie's giving you everything you
- 15:30Speaker 1: need to do it. With that double your money, you
- 15:32Speaker 1: can double your winnings. And the best starting point for
- 15:35Speaker 1: the big game is the Super Bowl prop bets. They're fun.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Anybody can do these, right, Hey, Mom, what color do
- 15:42Speaker 1: you think the gatorade's gonna be to get spilled at
- 15:44Speaker 1: the end of the game? Hey? What about that toying
- 15:46Speaker 1: the coin flip? Is it heads or as it tails?
- 15:49Speaker 1: Whatever it is is. Matthew Stafford, you're gonna throw a
- 15:51Speaker 1: stupid ass interception. Probably probably is Joe Mixon gonna score
- 15:57Speaker 1: a touchdown. I like it, I don't know. Get in
- 16:00Speaker 1: on that prop back action and listen even if you
- 16:03Speaker 1: don't pick on who's gonna win. You could be a winner.
- 16:05Speaker 1: All right, it's a great look. The prop bets are
- 16:08Speaker 1: the most fun for the super Bowl. So don't miss out.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Head done, my bookie, double your first deposit up to
- 16:13Speaker 1: one thousand dollars by using the promo code Bootleg place
- 16:18Speaker 1: your bets. Get ready for the unmatched excitement for that
- 16:21Speaker 1: Super Bowl. That is one thousand dollars in free money
- 16:24Speaker 1: that they will match. So you deposit a thousand, they
- 16:27Speaker 1: match a thousand bet anything anytime, anywhere with my Bookie.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Let's get back to the podcast. So you didn't grow
- 16:33Speaker 1: up so you're very optimistic kid. Okay, so you grew
- 16:36Speaker 1: up a RAMS fan, though I grew up a RAMS fan. Yeah,
- 16:38Speaker 1: which is interesting because most people in LA or in
- 16:41Speaker 1: this southern California region, obviously there are og Rams fans
- 16:44Speaker 1: because the Rams used to be in LA for a
- 16:46Speaker 1: period of time. Shout out Eric Dickerson. But yeah, but
- 16:49Speaker 1: if you're one of them Rams fans, like you can't
- 16:53Speaker 1: you must have gray hair to claim yes, like straight yes,
- 16:56Speaker 1: or like a bunch of tattoos and like yeah, I'm
- 16:58Speaker 1: like I know, ah, this guy's this guy's in there. Yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 1: But then but but what, I've been to a lot
- 17:02Speaker 1: of Rams games this year, and I feel like I
- 17:04Speaker 1: call them Rams bros. Yeah, Rams bros. Yeah, because they're like,
- 17:09Speaker 1: you know, they've lived here for like six years, they're
- 17:11Speaker 1: in Santa Monica or Vantage. Yeah, they're like yeah, yeah,
- 17:13Speaker 1: they kick it at Bungalow or whatever. That game there's
- 17:16Speaker 1: a football game, Bro, LA's got a team, fucking Rams,
- 17:21Speaker 1: let's go up. Yeah. There's a lot of those, for sure.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And then there's Yg who was a forty nine er fan. Yeah,
- 17:27Speaker 1: there's a lot. And see this is the thing about
- 17:29Speaker 1: this thing about the forty nine er thing, right, It's
- 17:33Speaker 1: like there's a lot of especially people my age, like
- 17:37Speaker 1: what the fuck else were you supposed to root for
- 17:39Speaker 1: that entire time? No? For sure. Luckily enough, my family
- 17:43Speaker 1: is from Saint Louis, my mom, my dad. Like, when
- 17:45Speaker 1: I was a little kid, we were watching the Rams,
- 17:48Speaker 1: especially because when I was a little kid, they were
- 17:49Speaker 1: Lit Warner, Kurt Warren Turf, straight up Bro Marshall, Fall,
- 17:54Speaker 1: Isaac Bruce like that. We were killing it. So I
- 17:58Speaker 1: was watching all that shit. But all my homies were
- 18:01Speaker 1: all Niner fans or Cowboy fans, which is yeah, because
- 18:03Speaker 1: I can imagine in like in the eight oh five,
- 18:05Speaker 1: it's a lot of Cowboys fans because calla Cowboys fans
- 18:07Speaker 1: are Raiders fans. Cowboys fans are the most delusional fans
- 18:10Speaker 1: in all sports. Straight up. They don't they don't realize
- 18:12Speaker 1: how much they suck. They're crazy, they're creaty. I actually
- 18:15Speaker 1: am not even mad at the Cowboys. They're fans fucking suck. Yeah. No,
- 18:18Speaker 1: they're fans are trash. They're fans treated like they're on
- 18:21Speaker 1: a dynasty run right now, and it's like, no, y'all
- 18:23Speaker 1: are not. They're really not. So are you? Obviously you're
- 18:28Speaker 1: feeling good about the Super Bowl? Yeah, of course you're
- 18:30Speaker 1: gonna be there. Have you to spend thirty eight thousand
- 18:32Speaker 1: dollars on a ticket? Lock? No, because you know I
- 18:35Speaker 1: have season tickets for the Rams. Yeah. And I looked
- 18:37Speaker 1: up like my seat. I get my seats at like
- 18:39Speaker 1: face value, you know what I mean. And I looked
- 18:42Speaker 1: up my seat and that shit is thirty nine thousand
- 18:46Speaker 1: dollars a piece. Oh, I got two of them. And
- 18:49Speaker 1: I looked at my I was like, baby, we're not going.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I'm sorry. You know, if you know some other dude
- 18:55Speaker 1: that got in like you might want to hit him
- 18:57Speaker 1: up because we're not going. Yeah. No, it's crazy because
- 19:01Speaker 1: even if I could, like, you know, obviously, if you
- 19:03Speaker 1: have season tickets, you're not getting super Bowl tickets. But
- 19:05Speaker 1: I'm selling if I have fucking Rams tickets, I got
- 19:07Speaker 1: them a face value for some reason, I'm slinging them things. Yeah,
- 19:11Speaker 1: well they don't give you that option, right, I would
- 19:13Speaker 1: have loved to sell my ship for thirty eight thousand
- 19:15Speaker 1: and not go. Of course, when you have season tickets,
- 19:18Speaker 1: you don't have access to the super Bowl tickets. That's true. Yeah,
- 19:23Speaker 1: you see how cold that is. You don't get access
- 19:26Speaker 1: to the Superman Rams. I love y'all, but I have
- 19:29Speaker 1: a problem. Okay, it's backwards. Yeah, so talk about the
- 19:33Speaker 1: new album. Give me the meaning behind the title got You.
- 19:36Speaker 1: It's not so bad. Yeah, my new album was basically like,
- 19:41Speaker 1: it's just a word of affirmation. It's not so bad.
- 19:44Speaker 1: It's like some I tell myself a lot, because in
- 19:47Speaker 1: the middle of that pandemic, it was like, damn, life
- 19:50Speaker 1: really sucked, at least from I know for everybody, but
- 19:53Speaker 1: like from my own personal experience, like I was really
- 19:56Speaker 1: really hating, hating, life. I just dropped to see you
- 20:00Speaker 1: when I'm famous. It's like, in the middle of the pandemic,
- 20:03Speaker 1: I can't go tour, I can't go do shit for it, right,
- 20:05Speaker 1: It's like just a lot of whack things at once.
- 20:07Speaker 1: But I'm truly an optimist, and I believe like at
- 20:12Speaker 1: any given moment, you can either see the world as
- 20:15Speaker 1: a fucked up place, so you can see it as
- 20:17Speaker 1: a beautiful thing if you pay attention to small things
- 20:20Speaker 1: in your life that are actually meaningful. And that's why
- 20:22Speaker 1: I was just telling myself, I'm like, dude, it's not
- 20:24Speaker 1: so bad. Like it's not so bad. There's a bunch
- 20:26Speaker 1: like I'm in this situation with this label that I
- 20:29Speaker 1: don't like, you know, Like it's like I can't promote
- 20:32Speaker 1: myself or do anything in the middle of the pandemic.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I'll know what to do. But I started focusing on
- 20:37Speaker 1: things that just genuinely brought me joy, and I started
- 20:40Speaker 1: realizing how much I don't need this situation with this label,
- 20:45Speaker 1: how much I don't need all this promotion and you know,
- 20:49Speaker 1: and this tours and these festivals and these things I
- 20:52Speaker 1: thought were completing my life so much. It's like, no,
- 20:55Speaker 1: I need to like make music and have fun, and
- 20:58Speaker 1: I need to remind people that all they need is joy, right,
- 21:03Speaker 1: And so that was that was a meaning behind the title.
- 21:06Speaker 1: It's just a word of affirmation that was helping me.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And then with that, when I started making an album,
- 21:12Speaker 1: it was like this low fi album and like it
- 21:16Speaker 1: was sad shit. It was like beats to study too.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I was for real interest music. I just throw that
- 21:21Speaker 1: shit on. There's like like one where like Homer's yeah
- 21:24Speaker 1: yeah yeah, so but I'm in there were like top
- 21:27Speaker 1: tier producers like playing like low fi beats, like yeah,
- 21:29Speaker 1: were about to do this shit. They has like two
- 21:31Speaker 1: sounds in it. They're looking at me like no, we're not,
- 21:33Speaker 1: you know, but I was really I was really like
- 21:36Speaker 1: on that. And then I realized, like, bro, that's not
- 21:38Speaker 1: the superhero version of yourself that you claim to be,
- 21:42Speaker 1: you know, like you claim to be somebody who's going
- 21:45Speaker 1: to help somebody forget about their worries and about their
- 21:47Speaker 1: shit and like, look on the brighter side. So don't
- 21:49Speaker 1: you dare drop this sad ass album in the middle
- 21:51Speaker 1: of all this sad ass shit, bro. And so I
- 21:54Speaker 1: went up. I left La. I went to Miami because
- 21:57Speaker 1: La just was like so sad at the time. We
- 22:00Speaker 1: really took COVID. Not that we took it serious, because
- 22:02Speaker 1: we should all take it serious, but we kind of
- 22:04Speaker 1: took it overboard, yeah a little bit, you know, a
- 22:06Speaker 1: little bit. We took it a little overboard, and Miami
- 22:08Speaker 1: was kind of doing a complete opposite. I went to Miami.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I was like, this is amazing. Yeah, me too. I
- 22:14Speaker 1: was like that, I feel like life is normal again.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Straight up. Life was normal out there, and it just
- 22:20Speaker 1: was like kind of like an escape for me. And
- 22:22Speaker 1: I went out there and I made as much turned
- 22:25Speaker 1: happy music as I could, and I did it in
- 22:28Speaker 1: an environment where I had fifteen people in the studio,
- 22:31Speaker 1: which I never do, right, And that's why when I
- 22:34Speaker 1: hear this album, I'll go out to the club or
- 22:36Speaker 1: something like that, which I never fucking do anyways. But
- 22:39Speaker 1: then I'll go out there and I'll hear it played
- 22:41Speaker 1: with all this other exciting music and it fits right
- 22:43Speaker 1: in for the first time, you know, because a lot
- 22:46Speaker 1: of my music is always so personal and so just
- 22:48Speaker 1: me by my side studio. This shit is vibing because
- 22:52Speaker 1: I did it with like fifteen people in the studio, Like, Hey,
- 22:54Speaker 1: what's up? Y'all. I'm Kyle. I don't know none of y'all,
- 22:56Speaker 1: but I need to have a really good time right
- 22:58Speaker 1: now because like it sucks back home. Let's make an album.
- 23:02Speaker 1: And that's sort of how we did it, you know.
- 23:05Speaker 1: That's how I've been in the studio with Game a
- 23:07Speaker 1: few times last month, and there's a lot of fucking
- 23:11Speaker 1: people in there, man, rappers be operating. No, No, I've
- 23:14Speaker 1: been to a lot of sessions over the years. I
- 23:16Speaker 1: mean maybe thousands, not a thousand, maybe a thousand, maybe
- 23:20Speaker 1: like five hundred. But if you've been to thousands of sessions,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I mean, you know, were like I have a couple
- 23:26Speaker 1: of artists I work for a week, but like the
- 23:29Speaker 1: Game had like a legitimate, like fifty sixty people in
- 23:33Speaker 1: the studio, and I wanted to guess I was gonna
- 23:36Speaker 1: be like it was a lot bro Yeah, and like
- 23:38Speaker 1: maybe like five of them were actually contributing to like
- 23:41Speaker 1: the music. Yeah, people hitting houka, fucking drinking. Like I'm like,
- 23:46Speaker 1: this ship is fucking crazy. It's like playoffs in here. Yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 1: the fuck is going to see there's a path look
- 23:51Speaker 1: for me. Like I always thought that that shit was weird,
- 23:54Speaker 1: but I thought it I think it adds, like for him,
- 23:56Speaker 1: like wherever he is creatively right now, Like that's like
- 23:58Speaker 1: that now it is juice. It helps because like yeah,
- 24:02Speaker 1: like for me, like I always thought that she was weird.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I'm like, how the fuck can y'all focus about like
- 24:05Speaker 1: telling like this really personal story in front of all
- 24:06Speaker 1: these people? And that's the key though, Like when you
- 24:09Speaker 1: have other people in there and music is loud on
- 24:13Speaker 1: two big ass speakers, everything you're doing is impacting their mood.
- 24:18Speaker 1: So if you turn around and you see these sixty
- 24:20Speaker 1: people all just fucking chilling on their phone, like you know,
- 24:25Speaker 1: if their vibe is fucked up, that's because the music
- 24:28Speaker 1: you're making is not geared for entertaining large amounts of
- 24:31Speaker 1: people at once, you know. So it's like a cheat
- 24:34Speaker 1: code kind of in a way, Like you need to
- 24:37Speaker 1: have other people in there and you captivate their vibe.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Like my fiance she's a DJ, right, and the homie
- 24:44Speaker 1: that an r this project, just Demmy, is a DJ,
- 24:47Speaker 1: and so I have them set up in the lobby
- 24:50Speaker 1: right with two big ass speakers and mixers. Now y'all
- 24:54Speaker 1: are going DJ in the lobby, And so when people
- 24:57Speaker 1: walk in to the studio. Yes, wow, people, Keaton is
- 25:01Speaker 1: making them a drink. Right, every sixty minutes, everybody in
- 25:04Speaker 1: the studio needs to take a shot. This is a rule.
- 25:07Speaker 1: If you're not taking this shot, you're leaving, you know
- 25:10Speaker 1: what I mean, unless for whatever reason you don't drink.
- 25:12Speaker 1: It's party religion something like that. But they're gonna take
- 25:15Speaker 1: the shot because we're making party music. We're making music
- 25:19Speaker 1: to help people forget about their problems. So if you
- 25:23Speaker 1: don't want to be in here where the studio is at,
- 25:25Speaker 1: well we're making in the lobby. There's loud ass music
- 25:28Speaker 1: and you're taking a shot out there too, So everybody
- 25:30Speaker 1: is entering this sort of zone of like this is
- 25:34Speaker 1: a party, you know. Side note, I wish it was
- 25:38Speaker 1: kind of the SoundCloud days because you could just throw
- 25:40Speaker 1: the lo Fi album out just to just just to see,
- 25:43Speaker 1: just like yo, let's I mean, the LOFA album is there.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I could put it out like I right, I can
- 25:49Speaker 1: literally do me a hardcore like fans are gonna be
- 25:52Speaker 1: in the comments like, yo, we want to hear the
- 25:53Speaker 1: fucking Lofi album. Man, I'm be like, I'll give it
- 25:55Speaker 1: to y'all. It's sad, yes, but you know, do you
- 26:00Speaker 1: feel like now that like, you know, because when you
- 26:01Speaker 1: were independent, the industry was way different, right, Like it'd
- 26:06Speaker 1: be fair to say that you built a lot of
- 26:08Speaker 1: your following on YouTube, right straight up? Yeah, yeah, but
- 26:11Speaker 1: like just in general, you know, back then it was
- 26:14Speaker 1: you could still purchase stuff on iTunes. They're streaming wasn't
- 26:19Speaker 1: as big in what that was like what twenty thirteen twelve?
- 26:25Speaker 1: Being independent now that the industry has changed so much,
- 26:28Speaker 1: is like are you having to still kind of I mean,
- 26:30Speaker 1: you know the music industry. You have very smart people
- 26:32Speaker 1: around you, but like, what are the things that you're
- 26:34Speaker 1: practicing now to try to kind of repeat the success
- 26:39Speaker 1: that you had, you know back then. That's a really
- 26:41Speaker 1: good question. I think the industry has changed big time.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I think back in the day, it was about like
- 26:47Speaker 1: brand personality on YouTube, right because the YouTube is a
- 26:50Speaker 1: video of this guy. Do we think this guy is cool?
- 26:54Speaker 1: What's his story, what's he look like, what's he from?
- 26:56Speaker 1: You know, like you capture all these things and everybody
- 26:59Speaker 1: so heavily on YouTube, and now in the streaming era,
- 27:02Speaker 1: it's kind of more like, all right, does this sound
- 27:05Speaker 1: out of these fifty thousand songs? I listen to does
- 27:08Speaker 1: it capture me? And so I think the name of
- 27:10Speaker 1: the game now is really focusing on your micro fan base,
- 27:16Speaker 1: right you them? Yeah, your fan base is this? My
- 27:19Speaker 1: fan base is this, Like I'm a very famous person,
- 27:22Speaker 1: Like I walk your monthly listeners are fucking huge on
- 27:24Speaker 1: spot when I walk down the street, Like people are
- 27:26Speaker 1: going to recognize me type shit. Now, dually, you're also
- 27:29Speaker 1: very unique. People are like, oh, it's the guy with
- 27:31Speaker 1: the great hair. That is what I'm talking about. Ya,
- 27:35Speaker 1: So it's here and then, But I can't focus on
- 27:38Speaker 1: this in today's world, right, I have to focus on this,
- 27:42Speaker 1: this smaller amount of people that are really into everything
- 27:45Speaker 1: I do. I engaged, engaged, I need to super serve them.
- 27:48Speaker 1: They're buying merch there, they're buying everything, They're keeping things afloat.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I need to super serve them. And as I'm super
- 27:54Speaker 1: serving them, something will raise its hand and then appeal
- 27:57Speaker 1: to all these people. That's how you do it. And
- 27:59Speaker 1: that's kind of what I notice in today's independent game
- 28:04Speaker 1: because the music is easy to make. The music don't
- 28:06Speaker 1: cost nothing to make, you know, So it's about dropping
- 28:09Speaker 1: as much quality product as you can to these people
- 28:13Speaker 1: who fuck with you and then kind of the something
- 28:15Speaker 1: breaks out of that awesome then you're on. Yeah, but
- 28:18Speaker 1: those people are gonna be keep your lights on. They're
- 28:20Speaker 1: gonna exact bills. I would tell every artist that, I'm like, yo,
- 28:24Speaker 1: if you've got a core fucking fan base, like feed
- 28:27Speaker 1: them what they want and then something's gonna break through. Exactly.
- 28:31Speaker 1: You're independent, like it only makes sense. Like you know,
- 28:33Speaker 1: at the end of the day, the name of the
- 28:34Speaker 1: game is to support yourself off of music, straight up,
- 28:38Speaker 1: support yourself off of songs. And in the streaming world,
- 28:41Speaker 1: that's what you do. You upload the song and he
- 28:43Speaker 1: immediately starts paying you. In the YouTube world where I
- 28:46Speaker 1: came from, it's like, no, you build as big of
- 28:50Speaker 1: a brand as you can and you go on tour
- 28:51Speaker 1: and that's what pays you. Music didn't pay nobody, right,
- 28:54Speaker 1: you know. So now it's like, and these people love you,
- 28:57Speaker 1: they'll listen to everything, so give them is much as
- 29:00Speaker 1: possible in tapping with them, like I'm on Patreon, I'm
- 29:03Speaker 1: on Twitch, I'm on Patreon, Discord, I'm on all that
- 29:06Speaker 1: shit because these people, me and them, we are friends.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I haven't heard of many artists on Patreon, so kind
- 29:11Speaker 1: of because obviously in the podcast space, it's a lot
- 29:15Speaker 1: of podcasts creators that go on Patreon. It's kind of
- 29:18Speaker 1: like only fans, but without Pussy and Titch exactly. Yeah,
- 29:22Speaker 1: it's only fans with I would be a hyper sexualized yr.
- 29:25Speaker 1: So like if you you know, like if you have
- 29:27Speaker 1: a Doupe podcast, you might some people will have be
- 29:30Speaker 1: on Patreon and they might do a bonus episode. Yeah,
- 29:33Speaker 1: they might have, Like you might get the episode before
- 29:36Speaker 1: everyone else, type, shit, how do you use it? So
- 29:38Speaker 1: what I do is I just give them the music first.
- 29:41Speaker 1: If I have a song that's coming out next month,
- 29:44Speaker 1: they have it right now, you know, like not for nothing.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And I know this is gonna piss people off. They
- 29:50Speaker 1: had the album like a day and a half in advance,
- 29:53Speaker 1: the whole thing, every song, mastered, the whole shit, and
- 29:56Speaker 1: I gave it to them first. I'm not getting none
- 29:58Speaker 1: of them plays recorded. I'm not none of that. You know,
- 30:01Speaker 1: those streams aren't counting for anything except for their excitement
- 30:05Speaker 1: and their enjoyment. So I try to give them as
- 30:07Speaker 1: much as possible first. And you're monetizing that probably at
- 30:10Speaker 1: a better rate. There, you're monetizing streams damn yeah straight up. Yeah, fact,
- 30:15Speaker 1: like yeah, fuck the streams, like these people are paying
- 30:17Speaker 1: how much you charge a month? Five dollars a month? Yeah?
- 30:19Speaker 1: Is there different tiers or just one? There's different tiers,
- 30:22Speaker 1: So what's the highest tier? I believe the highest tier
- 30:24Speaker 1: is fifteen dollars I think, And it just comes with
- 30:28Speaker 1: higher levels of access, you know, more shit I can
- 30:30Speaker 1: give you before I can give it to anybody else.
- 30:33Speaker 1: That's big. Get enough people doing that, there's you know,
- 30:36Speaker 1: you get enough people doing that, and once again, you
- 30:38Speaker 1: don't have to worry about taking no advance from nobody,
- 30:41Speaker 1: you know, being in some shitty loan situation. And really
- 30:45Speaker 1: really what it was for me too is realizing, oh,
- 30:47Speaker 1: I'm massively successful in music, right, Like I Spibe is
- 30:52Speaker 1: a billion something stream song, you know, maybe going towards
- 30:56Speaker 1: two or some shit like that. You know, playing with
- 30:59Speaker 1: me as like was five hundred million streams, Like Hey
- 31:02Speaker 1: Julie is another Golder platinum record. Like there's massive success.
- 31:07Speaker 1: But in order for me to be truly like rich
- 31:10Speaker 1: as fuck, I need to be doing all that shit
- 31:14Speaker 1: independently by myself. You know, it's real. That's how you
- 31:17Speaker 1: actually reach like masterpiece status or somebody like that who's
- 31:20Speaker 1: genuinely wealthy off their music. You need to just do
- 31:22Speaker 1: it yourself. And in today's world, I have these people
- 31:26Speaker 1: who are supporting me, who love me, my homies right this,
- 31:29Speaker 1: my family, who're gonna keep things afloat no matter what,
- 31:31Speaker 1: whether I'm up down sideways. And then I have all
- 31:34Speaker 1: this endless amount of music that I can release what
- 31:36Speaker 1: I'm having to go through, all this yellow tape. I
- 31:38Speaker 1: can just drop record after record after record, and when
- 31:41Speaker 1: something waves its hand to the masses, cool and all
- 31:45Speaker 1: of the money exactly exactly. And all I gotta do
- 31:49Speaker 1: is make tiktoks honestly, because I can imagine, like, okay,
- 31:51Speaker 1: so hey, we got to stuff the podcast man real quick.

- 33:10Speaker 1: love and let's get back to the interview. Atlantic Records
- 33:13Speaker 1: like we just saw. I mean, there's been a lot
- 33:15Speaker 1: of people just not even Atlantic, but just specifically, like
- 33:18Speaker 1: the major label game is, like there's a reason why
- 33:22Speaker 1: companies like Empire are thriving. And you know some of
- 33:24Speaker 1: these distro companies that offer label services because they're giving
- 33:28Speaker 1: you like a serious, like, shit, you got more of
- 33:31Speaker 1: the chunk of the pie than anyone then them, and
- 33:33Speaker 1: that's how it should be. That's and I would say too, sorry,
- 33:36Speaker 1: I'll get your finish go ahead. I would say too,
- 33:39Speaker 1: I'm not anti like company, you know what I mean.
- 33:43Speaker 1: I'm anti royalty shares and master ownings being so in
- 33:49Speaker 1: favor of this company for you to essentially still do
- 33:52Speaker 1: all the work. Yeah, because there's people who like, you know,
- 33:54Speaker 1: if you do a major label deal and they give
- 33:56Speaker 1: you thirteen percent of your album, that's like amazing, that's
- 33:59Speaker 1: like whoa. People are like, oh, you're killing it. But
- 34:02Speaker 1: that's like not even a norm. Like some people like
- 34:05Speaker 1: they'd be lucky to get eight points on their own shit,
- 34:08Speaker 1: which is crazy. If you get smacked like that, I would.
- 34:11Speaker 1: You're now you're pulling up to the office ready to
- 34:13Speaker 1: It's like what do we do well? You know, like
- 34:15Speaker 1: yg just talked about it on the Bronze Shit, he
- 34:18Speaker 1: was on the Bronze HBO show and he was saying
- 34:20Speaker 1: how he's never made he's never got a check off
- 34:23Speaker 1: his royalty yet, Like his whole career is crazy. It's
- 34:26Speaker 1: just advance, advance, advance man, And that's cap because that
- 34:31Speaker 1: shit is crazy, bro, because when I think about somebody
- 34:34Speaker 1: like YG, like me being from southern California has been
- 34:38Speaker 1: a literal staple in my like young adult life since
- 34:41Speaker 1: I was like fifteen, for sure, right since I was
- 34:43Speaker 1: a child, like we wanted to dress like YG, listen
- 34:46Speaker 1: to YG, b like YG. For somebody to be that
- 34:49Speaker 1: successful for so long and still never gotten a royalty thing, like,
- 34:53Speaker 1: it's fucking so ridiculous because as rich as he is,
- 34:57Speaker 1: he's had to have made them ten times. It's just
- 35:00Speaker 1: that it's that advanced thing, right, It's like, Okay, if
- 35:03Speaker 1: I turn in an album, I get, you know, whatever
- 35:05Speaker 1: you worked out individually, you know. So it's like some people,
- 35:08Speaker 1: I don't know. I think. I think like the industry
- 35:11Speaker 1: is starting to smarten up. Artists are starting to realize,
- 35:13Speaker 1: like I know some people who will just pass on
- 35:16Speaker 1: the advance and be like, no, I'm good, like you know,
- 35:19Speaker 1: do the service. Yeah yeah, no, it's crazy. So that's dope.
- 35:22Speaker 1: So are you just doing straight tune core, straight distro
- 35:24Speaker 1: kid or not? So we're doing so I'm like still uploading, yeah,
- 35:29Speaker 1: uploading things through like distro Kid and stuff like that.
- 35:32Speaker 1: But still I'm working with a company that's really just
- 35:36Speaker 1: my managers and it's independent and they're they're my managers. Yeah,
- 35:39Speaker 1: and they're pitching to Spotify and pitching to playlists and
- 35:44Speaker 1: shit like that, and that's all we're doing. That's dope.
- 35:46Speaker 1: That And then all the same services that like a
- 35:49Speaker 1: major company was doing or hiring out. I'm just going
- 35:53Speaker 1: to those people because you solo and hiring them myself. Right,
- 35:57Speaker 1: I'm hiring the press team, hiring the digital marketing team,
- 35:59Speaker 1: like there's still a team around, but there's no reason
- 36:03Speaker 1: why you can't pay for it for yourself. Also, hello,
- 36:06Speaker 1: not even a major label can guarantee a spot on
- 36:08Speaker 1: a fucking playlist. All they can do is fucking pitch
- 36:10Speaker 1: it as well. Now they might these people might listen
- 36:13Speaker 1: a little bit, you know, well, they listen way stronger.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I'll say that I'll do with even me putting this
- 36:17Speaker 1: album out, I'm like, oh, y'all are listening way stronger
- 36:20Speaker 1: to that. Like, like I said, I think all companies,
- 36:24Speaker 1: I think that they're awesome. I just think that what
- 36:26Speaker 1: they do is awesome. I just think that the business
- 36:28Speaker 1: needs to be way more in favor of the artists
- 36:30Speaker 1: because so much of the job is way more on
- 36:33Speaker 1: the shoulder of the artist. All I gotta go on
- 36:36Speaker 1: Instagram and make the ship. You gotta be fucking on TikTok.
- 36:38Speaker 1: You gotta be you gotta do everything, and then they're
- 36:40Speaker 1: just gonna come through with a canister gasoline. And then
- 36:43Speaker 1: once you have the fire, Once you have the fire,
- 36:46Speaker 1: you got to start to fire yourself, exactly. So when
- 36:48Speaker 1: I was just like, if I got to start to
- 36:49Speaker 1: fire myself, my gym and needs some more this money, exactly,
- 36:52Speaker 1: And if I start to fire myself, I'll just go
- 36:55Speaker 1: fuck with somebody else and just be like, oh look
- 36:57Speaker 1: I got this fire, Now put some gasoline on it.
- 36:59Speaker 1: For this this is what I'm offering you a fraction
- 37:02Speaker 1: of the thing to put the gasoline on it. And
- 37:04Speaker 1: that's make it make sense. But you got to get
- 37:06Speaker 1: out of that first situation to even have the power
- 37:09Speaker 1: to do that. You know, I'm really not anti company,
- 37:11Speaker 1: I'm anti the business of how much they're taking on
- 37:15Speaker 1: it Was it easy for you to break away? Like
- 37:17Speaker 1: did you just fulfill your contractual obligations or did you
- 37:19Speaker 1: ask to leave? I asked to leave, and it's and
- 37:22Speaker 1: it's and it was it was easy to break away because,
- 37:25Speaker 1: like I said, the people there like like we have
- 37:29Speaker 1: a good relationship, Like I love them, they love me.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And it was always easy to work. It was never
- 37:34Speaker 1: like static, Like I never had like let me a
- 37:36Speaker 1: fuck the label moment. I never did that because they're people.
- 37:39Speaker 1: They're people doing their jobs. You know, that's it. They're
- 37:42Speaker 1: really just people doing their jobs. Just the business of
- 37:45Speaker 1: it wasn't right. So I'm like, yo, you know. And
- 37:47Speaker 1: by the way, my song was so massive that my
- 37:50Speaker 1: fucking advance checks are crazy. So do y'all really want
- 37:55Speaker 1: to do? You want me to turn another album? And
- 37:57Speaker 1: you want me to turn me another album and you
- 37:58Speaker 1: come me to this bat ass check? What do you
- 38:00Speaker 1: want to do? You know what I mean? Because and
- 38:02Speaker 1: I was also kind of like making low five music
- 38:05Speaker 1: at the time, probably like look y'all want this now
- 38:08Speaker 1: fire album or what? Yeah? Nah, we don't actually, And
- 38:11Speaker 1: it's cool because I kind of want to move on too,
- 38:13Speaker 1: So it's like it's love. You know. It was good.
- 38:16Speaker 1: It was It was actually really seemless, really easy. That's dope, man. Yeah,
- 38:19Speaker 1: Well the albums I've heard horror stories. Are you doing
- 38:21Speaker 1: anything else that you could talk about coming up? Yeah, bro.
- 38:24Speaker 1: I mean, first of all, yeah, album is out. It's
- 38:27Speaker 1: the hottest album of the year. Okay, it's just listen.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I mean it is January, it's February. So far we
- 38:33Speaker 1: got the hottest album. And yeah, I'm going on tour
- 38:38Speaker 1: for this album and the tour starts in March. So
- 38:42Speaker 1: are you excited to get back on the road. Fuck, yeah,
- 38:44Speaker 1: I'm excited to. I'm excited to just see the people
- 38:48Speaker 1: when they went back to the music and I haven't
- 38:50Speaker 1: done that so long. And like, as you noted from
- 38:52Speaker 1: like twenty twelve, it is kind of when I started
- 38:54Speaker 1: my independent grind that whole time was just supported by
- 38:56Speaker 1: like ten people, thirty people, one hundred people, four hundred people,
- 39:01Speaker 1: a thousand people, five thousand people, forty thousand people out
- 39:04Speaker 1: of show who are connecting, like, and your live show
- 39:07Speaker 1: is dope as fuck, Like I think the first well,
- 39:09Speaker 1: I feel like I might have saw you a south By.
- 39:12Speaker 1: I think we first. I don't know when we first met.
- 39:14Speaker 1: It was like twenty twelve or twenty thirteen. I think
- 39:16Speaker 1: it was south By, But there was a when you
- 39:19Speaker 1: opened up for g on which tour was that that
- 39:22Speaker 1: was the uh you had like inflatables and the uh
- 39:28Speaker 1: these things happened to her and I had these big
- 39:30Speaker 1: ass palm tree and yes, yeah on the boogie board.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Yeah you came out on the boogie board. Yeah yeah, yep, yep.
- 39:36Speaker 1: So yeah, it's just I mean, congrats. The tours March March.
- 39:39Speaker 1: How many dates? I think it's like thirty dates. Oh shit,
- 39:42Speaker 1: you're out here, bro, come on, man, man, it's in
- 39:45Speaker 1: a while because it's what been at least two and
- 39:47Speaker 1: a half three years on the road. Three Yeah, at
- 39:49Speaker 1: this point, it's been three and a half years since
- 39:51Speaker 1: I've been on the road, which is kind of like
- 39:54Speaker 1: a fucking time for text portal. You know, it's almost
- 39:58Speaker 1: like my career. I'm doing have like a career, I'm
- 40:00Speaker 1: doing my thing. It's like going, then COVID happens and
- 40:04Speaker 1: fast forward three it's like three years up and disappeared.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Do you know do you find it easier now? Because like,
- 40:09Speaker 1: you're someone who came up with a cult following. I
- 40:13Speaker 1: feel like sometimes when you have as much success as
- 40:17Speaker 1: you had with a record, it's easy to kind of
- 40:19Speaker 1: deviate away from like those people you were talking about. Yeah,
- 40:23Speaker 1: did you feel like I've seen it happen with a
- 40:25Speaker 1: lot of artists, right, Like I don't want say names,
- 40:27Speaker 1: but you know people who just had huge records, but
- 40:30Speaker 1: they kind of came up a certain way. Did you
- 40:32Speaker 1: feel like it was a little bit harder for you
- 40:33Speaker 1: to kind of super serve your like og hardcore fan. Yeah,
- 40:38Speaker 1: you know what It's like, this is a perfect analogy.
- 40:40Speaker 1: It's like, imagine you throw a party, right and you're
- 40:42Speaker 1: all there and it's a party and everybody loves it.
- 40:44Speaker 1: We have this, we have this Kyle super Duver Gang
- 40:47Speaker 1: party going on, and it just those people are there,
- 40:50Speaker 1: and then somebody leaks to address and then twenty thousand
- 40:54Speaker 1: motherfuckers show up and then you and now all these
- 40:57Speaker 1: people are in the party and you have to pour
- 40:58Speaker 1: all of them drinks, and like it seems like to
- 41:01Speaker 1: your core fan base, like, oh, maybe he doesn't care
- 41:05Speaker 1: about us as much, because when they come to the
- 41:07Speaker 1: Kyle concert now now the same way you said the
- 41:09Speaker 1: RAMS bros Are coming to the Rams game. When they're there,
- 41:12Speaker 1: now their shoulder to shoulder with the Kyle brothers fucking
- 41:15Speaker 1: going exactly. So I think that it's not that it
- 41:20Speaker 1: was hard to super serve them. I mean, well, it
- 41:22Speaker 1: was because there's yellow tape. I got to go through
- 41:24Speaker 1: with the records I'm releasing and all this shit. So
- 41:26Speaker 1: I think it was a little harder to connect with them,
- 41:30Speaker 1: just them. But that's what's so great about to play
- 41:32Speaker 1: something right now. I feel like I'm back to like, Hey,
- 41:36Speaker 1: what's up y'all? Oh my god, that was a blur
- 41:37Speaker 1: at COVID all that shit. Like I love y'all and
- 41:40Speaker 1: I love you guys for letting me just make music
- 41:42Speaker 1: and be me. I'm so ready to do that with
- 41:44Speaker 1: y'all again, you know what I mean. That's dope. Well
- 41:47Speaker 1: there it is. Man, appreciate you pulling up. Go get go,
- 41:49Speaker 1: go check out the album. Check out the album. It's
- 41:51Speaker 1: not so bad. It's out right now. Tom Holland a
- 41:54Speaker 1: nice guy. Tom Holland is that's my homie, shouts out Tom.
- 41:57Speaker 1: He is the coolest. That's like your peeps. Huh that's
- 41:59Speaker 1: my dog. Yeah, he's great. Like I hang out with
- 42:02Speaker 1: him and in Day at the same time. You know what,
- 42:04Speaker 1: I actually only kicked it with in Day once. It
- 42:06Speaker 1: was at his It was at his uh. He had
- 42:09Speaker 1: like it was like a movie. After it was like
- 42:11Speaker 1: a really really tiny, little gathering, but I got like
- 42:15Speaker 1: super lit so nice. I think I embarrassed myself. Actually,
- 42:19Speaker 1: I think I like tried to get on a table
- 42:20Speaker 1: and perform my sp or some ship. It was like, Yo,
- 42:23Speaker 1: you guys want me to do I spy because I'm here, Yeah,
- 42:25Speaker 1: do it. Hey, I'll be here by the way. The
- 42:28Speaker 1: song right, yeah, y'all know the song. Yeah. I was
- 42:30Speaker 1: like smashed, so yeah, but now he's he's great. Every
- 42:32Speaker 1: time I'm in London, he shows me a good time.
- 42:35Speaker 1: And like at a best Buy in Atlanta, no way. Yeah.
- 42:40Speaker 1: She was in line in front of me and she
- 42:42Speaker 1: had this really tiny, little white security guard but he
- 42:44Speaker 1: looked like he's a murderer. Yeah that's that real. That's
- 42:46Speaker 1: how you know you're cracking. Security guard looked like a
- 42:49Speaker 1: normal bro. But I was like, uh. I was like
- 42:51Speaker 1: I just finished like euphoria and I was like, hey,
- 42:54Speaker 1: he's a day I fuck. Would you like? Yeah, they
- 42:56Speaker 1: should give you a fucking Emmy for that ship, you know.
- 42:58Speaker 1: She was like, oh, thank you, thank you. I was like,
- 43:00Speaker 1: all right, we'll go buy your hard drive. Yeah yeah,
- 43:03Speaker 1: there it is. Man. Shout out to the Hoummy Kyle.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Go check the album out. Bulet Cash Show boom, Let's
- 43:07Speaker 1: Gone fire,
