- 0:31Speaker 1: practice today, so probably around eleven fifteen eleven thirty. It's
- 0:36Speaker 1: Fred Kirsh, Paul Perillo, Alex Francisco, and Mike Dusseau and
- 0:41Speaker 1: again we'll be here covering everything going on with training
- 0:45Speaker 1: camp for the next couple hours. You can call us
- 0:48Speaker 1: at eight five five PATS five hundred. You can email
- 0:51Speaker 1: us at at web radio at Patriots dot com. So
- 0:54Speaker 1: a lot going on Day two of the public practices
- 0:58Speaker 1: for Patriots Training Camp. Been in everyone. We've got a
- 1:01Speaker 1: lot to talk about, at least I do, because I
- 1:04Speaker 1: wasn't on the show yesterday, so I didn't get to
- 1:06Speaker 1: chime in. But you know, let's start off right, you know,
- 1:10Speaker 1: off the top, what were your takes from yesterday? I mean,
- 1:12Speaker 1: I think Davante Parker a couple of touchdowns. I mean
- 1:14Speaker 1: those were you know, firing the crowd up, contested catchability,
- 1:17Speaker 1: something that you knew coming in. That was something he brought.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And it looks like, you know, Mac has an early
- 1:22Speaker 1: kind of confidence in him to you know, some of
- 1:24Speaker 1: the coverage was pretty tight. But and also give credit
- 1:26Speaker 1: to Jaylen Mills for a nice pass break up on him.
- 1:28Speaker 1: But I thought the offense overall, some real nice throws
- 1:30Speaker 1: by Max, some good energy. As Paul wrote in Blocservations,
- 1:34Speaker 1: you know that was my big takeaway, the offense and
- 1:36Speaker 1: seeing some of the new pieces Clay. Yeah, even though
- 1:38Speaker 1: I wasn't on the show, I was down on the
- 1:40Speaker 1: field doing some other things that I was watching, and
- 1:43Speaker 1: I think the wide receivers overall had a lot of energy.
- 1:47Speaker 1: You know, we'll see how long that energy lasts as
- 1:49Speaker 1: we get into like day ten of practice. But I
- 1:52Speaker 1: like what I saw a lot of competition, even though
- 1:55Speaker 1: it was in shorts, so shorts and shells. You know,
- 1:58Speaker 1: there was no hitting, there was no jamming or anything
- 2:00Speaker 1: like that. I thought, you know, led by DeVante Parker,
- 2:03Speaker 1: there was a lot of energy with the wide receiving corps. Yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 1: I thought they really brought it, I thought those guys,
- 2:08Speaker 1: because I thought it was it was kind of, I
- 2:10Speaker 1: don't want to say dead, but it was kind of subdued.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I thought for about an hour or maybe about forty
- 2:15Speaker 1: five minutes, and then all of a sudden, it was
- 2:17Speaker 1: it was Parker and Born. I thought that really injected
- 2:21Speaker 1: life into everybody. And I thought it was It was
- 2:23Speaker 1: interesting when Kendrick Bourne spoke after practice and he talked
- 2:25Speaker 1: about because yeah, we really started getting into it. We're
- 2:28Speaker 1: making plays, getting excited. He goes, but we kind of
- 2:30Speaker 1: turned the defense up a little bit too, and then
- 2:31Speaker 1: we went dry for a while. So, uh, I thought
- 2:35Speaker 1: that they kind of needed to inject a little with
- 2:37Speaker 1: that life because I think it was it was dragging
- 2:39Speaker 1: a little bit at the start. Yeah, it was a
- 2:41Speaker 1: good crowd yesterday, and I saw, you know, a couple
- 2:43Speaker 1: of times players went right up to the crowd get
- 2:45Speaker 1: them pumped up, including Mac Jones. Oh yeah, yeah, yep, yeah, no, Mac,
- 2:49Speaker 1: And I mean it just, you know, I love to
- 2:51Speaker 1: just see the energy right out of the gate. That's uh,
- 2:53Speaker 1: you know something. I know they've been working together a
- 2:55Speaker 1: lot this offseason, seeing some of that chemistry carry over
- 2:57Speaker 1: here onto the practice fields. I wasn't expecting much yesterday, Fred,
- 3:01Speaker 1: I mean, I didn't think it was going to be
- 3:02Speaker 1: as competitive as it was. Some competitive seven on seven,
- 3:05Speaker 1: eleven on eleven portions, But overall, I think it was a,
- 3:09Speaker 1: you know, a good start. We'll see what they can,
- 3:10Speaker 1: you know, build on. I know everybody's waiting for Monday
- 3:12Speaker 1: in the paths to come on. But I still think there's,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you know, some significant stuff going on right now. We
- 3:16Speaker 1: see if the view this is where we are, this
- 3:19Speaker 1: is our view of the field as you look at it,
- 3:22Speaker 1: and you can see, you know, some players are trickling
- 3:24Speaker 1: out in the field right now. Mac Jones was one
- 3:27Speaker 1: of the first players out here. Um, yeah, Fred. Bill
- 3:30Speaker 1: Belichick had a little conversation right now with Drew Rosenhouse
- 3:33Speaker 1: and reported last night the Patriots extended Devon got Chat
- 3:36Speaker 1: two years. Yeah, that was the two guys making the deal.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So they're they're having a little chat here before Bill's
- 3:41Speaker 1: media building. You know, let's talk about that a little
- 3:43Speaker 1: bit because I think, you know, in the media, the
- 3:46Speaker 1: immediate reaction was, what, you know, you're spending money on him.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I think it's a good move, you know, Listen, it's
- 3:54Speaker 1: hard to tell who's doing what. Just as much of
- 3:57Speaker 1: the defensive line as the offensive lines. So you look
- 4:00Speaker 1: at overall things. Oh, Patriots had trouble stopping the run
- 4:02Speaker 1: at times, and that's true. Um, but I also saw
- 4:05Speaker 1: Devon Gotcha having good success against the run at times. Now,
- 4:09Speaker 1: of course we're talking more in the middle of the season.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But I think he's a good player. I think he
- 4:14Speaker 1: might be a little better than Lawrence guy at this point. Um.
- 4:18Speaker 1: You know, so you know Bill has done this in
- 4:21Speaker 1: the past. You know, guys like that. It's like, well,
- 4:24Speaker 1: why are they extending this guy? Why are they giving
- 4:26Speaker 1: this guy more money? You know, you can go back
- 4:29Speaker 1: to Tully Bantacame, you know, players like that. But I
- 4:33Speaker 1: think it's good. I think it's Um. I think it's
- 4:36Speaker 1: a good move by the Patriots. I think he's a
- 4:39Speaker 1: solid player and you know, so doing a little bookkeeping now,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I think that the move actually saves the money immediately,
- 4:49Speaker 1: you know, and so you're look at, Okay, what are
- 4:51Speaker 1: they going to use that money on? Um, maybe this
- 4:54Speaker 1: is making room for Trey Flowers. May Maybe they definitely
- 4:57Speaker 1: were tied up against it. I mean, you know, just
- 5:00Speaker 1: I didn't think he was all that great last year,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and I think a lot of people were surprised. Um,
- 5:04Speaker 1: you know, the run defense hasn't been that great. I mean,
- 5:07Speaker 1: you know, and I have you know, said recently, I
- 5:09Speaker 1: don't think it's as big of a deal, but you know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: I think they need some injection to youth there. I
- 5:13Speaker 1: thought they should have gone with that kind of position
- 5:16Speaker 1: in the draft. Did a lot of talk about Jordan
- 5:18Speaker 1: Davis and in that kind of role. I know Philly
- 5:20Speaker 1: took him way before the Patriots could have had a
- 5:22Speaker 1: shot at him after he blew up the combine, But
- 5:24Speaker 1: I think it just puts a little a lot more
- 5:26Speaker 1: focus on Gotcha and you know, depending on how things
- 5:29Speaker 1: go with guy and whys, those guys need to you know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: all step up and be better than they were last year.
- 5:34Speaker 1: So I don't think anyone was I would group Gotcha
- 5:38Speaker 1: and with kind of agalore of the free agents that
- 5:40Speaker 1: you know, maybe didn't quite live up to expectations. But
- 5:42Speaker 1: you know, like you said, maybe they saw something in him,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and I do know, you know, players, it might take
- 5:47Speaker 1: them a little bit of time to adjust. But I
- 5:49Speaker 1: was surprised by the deal and I'm hopeful that that
- 5:51Speaker 1: Goatscha bounces back and has has a good year as
- 5:53Speaker 1: an anchor against the run. Yeah, And the thing is,
- 5:55Speaker 1: you know, you can look at all the stats you
- 5:57Speaker 1: want from Pro Football Focus or any of these analytical platforms,
- 6:01Speaker 1: but when you're talking about offensive line and defensive line,
- 6:04Speaker 1: so much of your success depends on the success of
- 6:07Speaker 1: the person next to you. So you really don't know,
- 6:10Speaker 1: you know, um like, for example, Christian Barmore had a
- 6:13Speaker 1: great rookie season last year, but this year, if he's
- 6:16Speaker 1: not getting help from guys around him, especially with a
- 6:20Speaker 1: year of tape on him, he might it might look
- 6:22Speaker 1: like he's regressing. Yeah, well, and what's his role going
- 6:25Speaker 1: to be? You know, is he just gonna be h
- 6:27Speaker 1: And I think that there's obviously, of course, places for
- 6:30Speaker 1: important pass rushers, and you know, that could be Josh
- 6:32Speaker 1: j that could be Christian Barmore. But you know, I
- 6:34Speaker 1: think for Barmore to truly be that elite defensive tackle,
- 6:38Speaker 1: you're hoping that he's an every down player and that
- 6:40Speaker 1: you know that they're going to harness that ability that
- 6:42Speaker 1: he has to be disruptive to penetrate. You know, if
- 6:45Speaker 1: you think about the Patriots kind of two gapping system
- 6:48Speaker 1: and you know what they've traditionally liked to do. Sometimes
- 6:51Speaker 1: I think with the RPO stuff, it's just red meat
- 6:54Speaker 1: for that because they're not really getting any disruption. It
- 6:56Speaker 1: gives the quarterback a nice pocket right off the snap.
- 6:59Speaker 1: So you know, I look for something to uh with
- 7:02Speaker 1: Christian Barmore. Are they gonna expand his role? Is he
- 7:04Speaker 1: gonna you know, we talk about the scheme change on offense,
- 7:06Speaker 1: He's Barmore gonna come in and you know, start being
- 7:09Speaker 1: a penetrator on early downs and disrupting those kind of
- 7:11Speaker 1: plays and getting after the Josh Allen's and the tours
- 7:13Speaker 1: of the world. That's that's what I'd like to see.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Uh there we uh see fifty two. That's that's Marcus
- 7:20Speaker 1: Jones leave. Yep. I was down on the field, you know,
- 7:22Speaker 1: so you get that different perspective when you're field level.
- 7:26Speaker 1: He's he's tiny for football player. Yes, you know, he
- 7:29Speaker 1: didn't even look like he was a football looked like
- 7:31Speaker 1: he was just someone you know, uh, you know doing
- 7:35Speaker 1: one of those uh you know fantasy things where you
- 7:37Speaker 1: know you want a prize and you got to practice
- 7:39Speaker 1: with the Patriots, but didn't want to go there. I
- 7:44Speaker 1: didn't want to go there, but but you said it,
- 7:47Speaker 1: not me, But but no, he just looked out of place.
- 7:52Speaker 1: But he's fast, he's yeah, well that's his thing. And
- 7:54Speaker 1: I mean, and he played all over the place. They
- 7:56Speaker 1: used him a little bit as a slot wide receivers,
- 7:58Speaker 1: as a cornerback, kind of some safe ye roles. I mean,
- 8:00Speaker 1: I think what he's known for is his punt return
- 8:02Speaker 1: ability and his explosiveness. So I'd love to be able to,
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know, get a glimpse of that, but well you
- 8:07Speaker 1: might have to wait till preseason to really get a
- 8:09Speaker 1: full glimpse of punt returns and kind of that explosive ability.
- 8:12Speaker 1: One other thing I just want to point out. I
- 8:13Speaker 1: know yesterday John Nu Smith had a catch down on
- 8:16Speaker 1: the far end, might have not have caught it, but
- 8:18Speaker 1: was down for a minute. I think there was a
- 8:19Speaker 1: brief injury concern with him. But he is back out
- 8:21Speaker 1: here and looks no worse for wear. That's good. The
- 8:24Speaker 1: other thing I want to bring up, you know, before
- 8:25Speaker 1: we actually get into practice, is some of the things
- 8:29Speaker 1: that players said after practice yesterday. One of them, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: think it was Trent Brown, might have been another receiver
- 8:36Speaker 1: mentioning how at least right now, they feel like the
- 8:39Speaker 1: offense is being simplified and that's going to allow the
- 8:42Speaker 1: receivers to play fast. And Trent Brown even said the
- 8:46Speaker 1: guy's up front would would be able to play faster too.
- 8:50Speaker 1: So there was a lot of acknowledgement to the changes offensively,
- 8:53Speaker 1: I agree, Freddie. That was another key takeaway from me yesterday. Yeah,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and so you know, so now you so now I
- 8:59Speaker 1: you know, the first thing I'm thinking is, Okay, I
- 9:02Speaker 1: don't I want this team to be tougher to defend.
- 9:06Speaker 1: But you know, making simplifying things doesn't mean it's easy.
- 9:10Speaker 1: You know, that makes it easier to defend. You know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: it just makes it makes it just makes it more streamlined,
- 9:16Speaker 1: inefficient hopefully. Um. And so, like Trend said, allowing players
- 9:21Speaker 1: to play faster. Um. The other thing I want to
- 9:24Speaker 1: bring up is it looks like, you know, they might
- 9:26Speaker 1: be actually really you know, making significant changes to the offense.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And you know, if they do, I'll be wrong because
- 9:34Speaker 1: you know, on our show, on our regular Patriots Unfiltered,
- 9:38Speaker 1: you know, I said I'll believe it when I see
- 9:40Speaker 1: it in terms of, you know, how much this offense
- 9:42Speaker 1: actually changes. But if they're actually going to go to this,
- 9:46Speaker 1: you know, get the lineman out of their stands, let
- 9:48Speaker 1: the running back pick the hole a lot, you know,
- 9:50Speaker 1: the Denver Broncos under Mike Shanahan. Then I'll be wrong,
- 9:55Speaker 1: you know, because that is that's that is a significant
- 9:58Speaker 1: change if they do that, for sure, And I mean
- 10:00Speaker 1: I also wonder, I mean, ay, how are we going
- 10:02Speaker 1: to know exactly what the scheme chase changes and b
- 10:05Speaker 1: is it less about changing the actual offense and more
- 10:08Speaker 1: just kind of changing terminologically the delivery of the offense,
- 10:11Speaker 1: like the actual on field plays and what they're running
- 10:14Speaker 1: will ultimately be the same, but the way they communicate
- 10:17Speaker 1: it and the way they get the plays in, um,
- 10:19Speaker 1: you know, you think a little bit about that that
- 10:20Speaker 1: twenty eleven year coming off to hold out, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: they wanted to go fast again. I don't think they
- 10:26Speaker 1: changed the offense, but I know they simplified some of
- 10:28Speaker 1: the terminology to those one word kind of play calls,
- 10:30Speaker 1: so you know they'll be able to get things off quick.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I don't know how similar that is, but I just
- 10:36Speaker 1: wonder if you're going to kind of see the same
- 10:37Speaker 1: plays being run, but it's just kind of different. So
- 10:40Speaker 1: that everyone can understand it, get on the same page
- 10:42Speaker 1: and know what what's going on right out and avoid
- 10:44Speaker 1: those delay of games. And you know, you know, so
- 10:47Speaker 1: let Mac get into the huddle faster, you know, let
- 10:50Speaker 1: let him get to his teammates in the huddle faster.
- 10:54Speaker 1: He's got the play already, there's no delay there between
- 10:58Speaker 1: he and the sidelines. So anything you can do to
- 11:00Speaker 1: quicken that process, I think will help Mac. Well, I
- 11:03Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, I don't think those two things
- 11:06Speaker 1: are related. I think that they're I think what they're changing.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And I thought Bill had a quote about this latenis
- 11:11Speaker 1: press Scot I think was the last question of his
- 11:13Speaker 1: press conference yesterday, just you know, he had acknowledged, you know,
- 11:17Speaker 1: we lost four staff members to Las Vegas, ye, and
- 11:20Speaker 1: you know you have new coaches come, new staff members
- 11:23Speaker 1: coming in a second year quarterback, it was time. It
- 11:27Speaker 1: was time to do something a little bit different because
- 11:29Speaker 1: everybody would be on the same page, as opposed to
- 11:32Speaker 1: having one guy new last year with everybody else up
- 11:36Speaker 1: to speed, you just had to get Mac Jones up
- 11:38Speaker 1: to speed on the offense. This year, you have everybody
- 11:41Speaker 1: that you needed to get up to speed. So I
- 11:42Speaker 1: think that they used that as an opportunity to sort
- 11:44Speaker 1: of simplify the terminology and do it that way. I
- 11:47Speaker 1: don't know if that's going to result in, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 1: fewer delayed game penalties or anything like that. I think
- 11:52Speaker 1: that that needs to be on the whole operation. Yeah. Yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 1: that's a good point. I mean I like that quote.
- 11:57Speaker 1: It almost I didn't. I didn't hear it. I just
- 11:59Speaker 1: read it. It almost sounded like, why do you think
- 12:02Speaker 1: we're doing this? You know, like like I mean, you know,
- 12:05Speaker 1: we can question the actual mechanics of it and how
- 12:08Speaker 1: they're doing it, but it was it was a good time,
- 12:10Speaker 1: and I mean I almost wonder if they should have
- 12:12Speaker 1: done it sooner when they knew they were leaving Brady
- 12:14Speaker 1: and you got Cam Newton coming in at the end
- 12:17Speaker 1: of June. Um, you know, maybe maybe they should have
- 12:19Speaker 1: been done even sooner. Yeah, I mean, but I don't know.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Maybe you look at the circumstances last year, you're bringing
- 12:25Speaker 1: in a new quarterback. Um. You know, it's it's almost
- 12:30Speaker 1: like an analogy of you know, the offensive line. When
- 12:33Speaker 1: somebody goes down, you you you only want to like
- 12:35Speaker 1: maybe you know, replace one position rather than multiple positions
- 12:39Speaker 1: when somebody, I think that's the way said last year
- 12:43Speaker 1: the new guy was Mac, so let's not adjust everything
- 12:46Speaker 1: to him, Let's have him adjust to us. But now
- 12:49Speaker 1: now everybody's right. Now, everybody's new. Now you have an
- 12:52Speaker 1: opportunity to start fresh with everybody. Um, so you know
- 12:56Speaker 1: it makes sense, It does make sense. It does as
- 12:59Speaker 1: usually build. Does you know? Uh when he signs that
- 13:06Speaker 1: overpaced guys that led you to a twenty sixth ranking
- 13:11Speaker 1: run defense overpay, I mean is significantly. Bill is speaking
- 13:15Speaker 1: to the media right now and I'm just looking at
- 13:17Speaker 1: Twitter and apparently he just called him one of the
- 13:20Speaker 1: best defensive linemen in the league. Glad they're able to
- 13:23Speaker 1: work out the deal. Yeah, okay, well that, um, that
- 13:26Speaker 1: might be a little so maybe you know here, but
- 13:28Speaker 1: here's what I would say about that. Maybe now people
- 13:31Speaker 1: will stop like dragging their jaws around. When Bill says
- 13:36Speaker 1: that Mac Jones has made dramatic improvements, Oh, he's never
- 13:41Speaker 1: said anything player. This is what he does. Yes, this
- 13:45Speaker 1: is Bill is very complimentary of his personnel always. I mean,
- 13:49Speaker 1: how many times have we heard over the years, Freddy,
- 13:52Speaker 1: no one works harder than so and so. Right, this
- 13:54Speaker 1: guy's the best. He called Patrick Chung the best safety
- 13:56Speaker 1: in the league, right, was he ever the best safety
- 13:58Speaker 1: in the league? You know? So this is what he does.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And I think Alex's point about what he said about
- 14:03Speaker 1: Gotcha is in the line with I think what he's
- 14:06Speaker 1: always done. He's very complimentary of his personnel, and I
- 14:09Speaker 1: think when he says those things like he's the best
- 14:12Speaker 1: at whatever, I think the translation is he does what
- 14:15Speaker 1: I tell him to do. Well, don't just count, don't
- 14:19Speaker 1: just count the relationship with Roshouse, and he does it
- 14:22Speaker 1: the way I want him to do it. You know. Um,
- 14:25Speaker 1: he's a team player. That's that's the translation exactly. Fred.
- 14:29Speaker 1: If you if you you're on board, you play ball
- 14:31Speaker 1: with us, We'll reward you. And there's got to be
- 14:34Speaker 1: like a respect level that they gained for him over
- 14:37Speaker 1: the offseason, because Godcha is somehow dating supermodel Chanel. I'm
- 14:41Speaker 1: in so there you go. I don't know, maybe he's
- 14:44Speaker 1: a different, whole different man now respect. They just gave
- 14:47Speaker 1: him respect. Yeah, that's a great pull for him. I
- 14:51Speaker 1: could not believe to see them together. So she's what
- 14:53Speaker 1: kind of modeling does she do? She was a Victoria's
- 14:56Speaker 1: Secret model, but high fashion, really great model. She actually
- 15:00Speaker 1: is a sterling Shepherd's baby mama. They have two little
- 15:04Speaker 1: girls together, but I think they got divorced obviously. All right,
- 15:09Speaker 1: you heard that horn players are Now I thought you
- 15:12Speaker 1: were just putting an end to that talk. Now offensive
- 15:16Speaker 1: defense are on the field, they're gonna start their stretching routine. Oh,
- 15:20Speaker 1: these are the intangibles. Absolutely So this was the time
- 15:23Speaker 1: when Cam Newton was here. He'd he'd be doing his
- 15:25Speaker 1: dances in the middle of the field and everybody would
- 15:28Speaker 1: be going one way and he'd be going the other way.
- 15:31Speaker 1: But assuming things are good, there's David Andrews in the
- 15:36Speaker 1: middle there. He's got the red shirt on, he's on pup.
- 15:42Speaker 1: What do you think of um? You know, they continued
- 15:44Speaker 1: what they started in mini camp with Trent Brown at
- 15:47Speaker 1: left tackle and Isaiah win it right, What do you
- 15:50Speaker 1: think about that? I mean, it's everybody's speculating why and
- 15:54Speaker 1: you know, trying to balance things out. Speculation of you know,
- 15:57Speaker 1: turning to surround could strange with with two trusted veterans
- 16:00Speaker 1: on either side. I mean, I mean, I think Paul,
- 16:02Speaker 1: I'll let you lay out your theory. I mean, I
- 16:04Speaker 1: think I think that one might make the most sense
- 16:06Speaker 1: of I mean, we we talked a little bit about
- 16:08Speaker 1: it yesterday, Freddie, and I just think it comes down
- 16:10Speaker 1: to a bottom line. I think they feel like Trent
- 16:12Speaker 1: Brown's a better left tackle than Isaiah Win, and I
- 16:15Speaker 1: think that they made the move as a result. It
- 16:17Speaker 1: might be to help the rookie. You know, you put
- 16:19Speaker 1: you put a guy like that. You know, it's now
- 16:21Speaker 1: he's between Trent Brown and David Andrews. Like like Mike said,
- 16:26Speaker 1: But I feel like the best eight or nine games
- 16:29Speaker 1: that Trent Brown has ever played in the NFL were
- 16:31Speaker 1: down the stretch in twenty eighteen and he was playing
- 16:34Speaker 1: left tackle. So why not just see if that sort
- 16:37Speaker 1: of sparks his return to the way he played then,
- 16:40Speaker 1: Because we didn't see that Trent Brown at all last year.
- 16:44Speaker 1: And I think maybe a move to the left side,
- 16:46Speaker 1: you know, might help him. And I think it's as
- 16:48Speaker 1: simple as that. So we know Brown could play either side.
- 16:52Speaker 1: What about Win at the right side? You know, I
- 16:55Speaker 1: have we ever seen that even at college? I don't.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I don't. I don't remember what he you know, him
- 17:00Speaker 1: moving in college, but no, we haven't seen him here, right,
- 17:04Speaker 1: We haven't seen the right tackle here now first time.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I mean, everybody wanted to move in the guard for
- 17:07Speaker 1: the longest time, and I don't think anyone ever predicted
- 17:09Speaker 1: he might go to right tackle. So, as we said
- 17:12Speaker 1: on the show a couple of times, I mean, is
- 17:13Speaker 1: he in a competition? I mean, is there any kind
- 17:15Speaker 1: of legitimate place where Yaddey could just could you know,
- 17:18Speaker 1: push him for that role. I know Yaddy just was
- 17:20Speaker 1: even more of a left tackle in college too, But
- 17:23Speaker 1: I have my questions. I think they have to be
- 17:25Speaker 1: prepared with that third tackle and I think, well, you know,
- 17:27Speaker 1: justin heran more likely than not, is gonna play some
- 17:31Speaker 1: significant snaps at something like this season, being on the
- 17:34Speaker 1: left or the right, either Brown or Win are gonna
- 17:36Speaker 1: get banged. I mean, in terms of health, I would say, yeah,
- 17:39Speaker 1: but I haven't seen any indication whatsoever that there's any
- 17:43Speaker 1: competition for starting jobs. Yeah, if they're healthy, it's been
- 17:46Speaker 1: Brown and Brown and Win have taken every rep when
- 17:49Speaker 1: they've been available in the five or six times that
- 17:52Speaker 1: we've gotten a chance to see them. Now, you guys
- 17:54Speaker 1: are right, I mean, they're both injury risks, so you know,
- 17:57Speaker 1: expecting seventeen games out of them is probably expect a
- 18:00Speaker 1: little too much. I mean, listen, if if Winn can
- 18:04Speaker 1: do it at right and he can stay healthy, I
- 18:07Speaker 1: think it's a pretty solid line. You know, you got
- 18:10Speaker 1: Trent Brown, you got Cold Strange of first round pick
- 18:12Speaker 1: David Andrews, who's as solid as they comment center. Uh,
- 18:16Speaker 1: you know, and then you got win over at the
- 18:18Speaker 1: right tackle. You know, if when you can can you
- 18:21Speaker 1: know man that right guard, I think you've got a
- 18:25Speaker 1: pretty solid line. I think pretty solid too, but just
- 18:29Speaker 1: the injuries of the question. And you know, of course,
- 18:31Speaker 1: what is Cold Stranger ceiling? Like what's his rookie ye'ar like? Uh,
- 18:34Speaker 1: excited to see him get in one on ones and
- 18:36Speaker 1: see how he's going to handle NFL strength. I mean
- 18:38Speaker 1: it's a big jump for him. So you know, it's
- 18:40Speaker 1: easy to say always stepping right in a left card,
- 18:42Speaker 1: but how's it actually gonna look? And I think the
- 18:44Speaker 1: two tackles were extremely inconsistent when they were on the
- 18:46Speaker 1: field last year. I think they need to be better. Yep,
- 18:49Speaker 1: and maybe the switching sides will help both that we
- 18:52Speaker 1: see Trent Brown doing his uh stretches Bill Belichick in
- 18:56Speaker 1: the foreground, is he still talking to Rosenhouse? Looks no.
- 19:00Speaker 1: He moved on. He did his press conference and h yeah,
- 19:03Speaker 1: just running through the attendance, I got just about everybody. Um,
- 19:06Speaker 1: I just I'm not sure I spot teach it. Wise,
- 19:08Speaker 1: that's the one I can't seem to find. But otherwise,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I think I've got everybody back here today, except for
- 19:13Speaker 1: of course the PUP and NFI guys that we're not here.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Yesterday we saw some of those helmets. Maybe maybe we
- 19:21Speaker 1: can get a shot of those helmets with the padding
- 19:23Speaker 1: on it. We tried to get something for us for
- 19:26Speaker 1: the show. Today. They're all down the far end. They
- 19:29Speaker 1: see all the offensive lineman, defensive lineman, linebackers. Yeah, I
- 19:33Speaker 1: think they're mandated for tight ends, offensive and defensive line
- 19:36Speaker 1: and linebacker or something like that. So that's a new
- 19:38Speaker 1: thing to kind of diminish the head to head, helmet
- 19:43Speaker 1: to helmet contact. U Yeah. Hunter Henry was biting his
- 19:46Speaker 1: tongue yesterday. I think when they asked him about it,
- 19:48Speaker 1: he's like, it's a good shot of it. Fine, Yeah,
- 19:52Speaker 1: I mean, listen, anything you could do to avoid injuries
- 19:56Speaker 1: and training camp, that's one of the most frustrating things.
- 19:58Speaker 1: You haven't even got to the game as yet. And
- 20:00Speaker 1: you already have guys go down. Yeah, you can't stand that,
- 20:03Speaker 1: but that's football. Quickly changes the whole composure of the
- 20:07Speaker 1: season that you were kind of planning on. Yeah, but
- 20:10Speaker 1: you know, hey, you know one other thing I was
- 20:11Speaker 1: thinking about just going back to Win real quick. You know,
- 20:14Speaker 1: it is a new move to right tackle with him,
- 20:15Speaker 1: And maybe that's why it's been an offseason thing. Like
- 20:18Speaker 1: they just went right into it. It wasn't like, hey,
- 20:20Speaker 1: let's kind of experiment with it. It's like, we're gonna
- 20:22Speaker 1: put you there. Get ready to play there. You know
- 20:24Speaker 1: that that's what the plan is. Might give him a
- 20:26Speaker 1: little bit more of a jump start on if they
- 20:28Speaker 1: started him on left tackle and then, say a week
- 20:31Speaker 1: in the training camp said, you know what, let's go
- 20:33Speaker 1: with the flip. Let's say Win has a great season
- 20:35Speaker 1: at right tackle. Do you resign him a great season? Yeah? Sure,
- 20:40Speaker 1: if he plays great, Yeah, I mean I try to.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I also I also think right tackle, but yeah, you'd
- 20:49Speaker 1: get a discount. You know, you're paying him as a
- 20:51Speaker 1: left tackle, you're paying them as a right tackle. I think.
- 20:53Speaker 1: But I still think both those sides are are of importance.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Just think your tackles are important. And I'm not looking
- 21:00Speaker 1: for a discount. I'm looking for good players. And if
- 21:03Speaker 1: he has a great season and suddenly you're like, that's
- 21:06Speaker 1: what we drafted, I'm definitely interested in resigning him because
- 21:10Speaker 1: you know, Trent Brown, I don't know how many years
- 21:12Speaker 1: he's gonna be here. I mean, he's got a two
- 21:13Speaker 1: year deal, but you're lucky if you get one on
- 21:15Speaker 1: off him. Let me, let's face it, he's he's a risk.
- 21:17Speaker 1: If he's a risk, it's it's gonna be hard. And
- 21:19Speaker 1: I mean you say, great season. I think the harder
- 21:21Speaker 1: decision is what if he just plays seventeen games in
- 21:23Speaker 1: his Fine, that's not a hard decision from it. You know,
- 21:25Speaker 1: if he plays seventeen season game plays the way he's
- 21:29Speaker 1: played when healthy the last three years, thank you, yes,
- 21:32Speaker 1: thank thank you. Good luck on the on the open market, goodbye.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Ye all right. I would say, uh, maybe a little
- 21:39Speaker 1: lighter crowd than yesterday, but still pretty good crowd. Bleachers
- 21:43Speaker 1: I'd say about seventy five percent full. Then you've got
- 21:46Speaker 1: the hill that looks like it's pretty full. Um some
- 21:49Speaker 1: changes here to the practice fields. Um, they built this
- 21:54Speaker 1: big wall, so the bleachers are higher up than they
- 21:57Speaker 1: usually were, and then they've ended the field so there's
- 22:01Speaker 1: more grass, and eventually when they restripe the field coming up,
- 22:05Speaker 1: we're gonna have a full hundred yard it'll go from
- 22:07Speaker 1: an eighty yard field to one hundred yard field. So
- 22:10Speaker 1: when when when? When I got the update yesterday, when
- 22:13Speaker 1: did you hear? When did you hear that might happen? Paul? Uh,
- 22:16Speaker 1: They're gonna try to let the sad really take I talked.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I was actually talking to one of the grounds crew
- 22:21Speaker 1: gots yesterday and the weeds are getting big jay journalists.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I was getting I haven't been a big jay journalist
- 22:29Speaker 1: since nineties. Did you find out? Is it a California
- 22:31Speaker 1: sense of mere Jesus? But they yeah, they talked about
- 22:36Speaker 1: they they extended. You could see for those of that
- 22:39Speaker 1: have been here, maybe we're here yesterday and now listening.
- 22:42Speaker 1: They put the goal posts back so you can see
- 22:46Speaker 1: the extra grass that is uh you know, has been
- 22:49Speaker 1: has been planted. And I think eventually they're gonna reline
- 22:52Speaker 1: the fields and repaint them so they'll be a full
- 22:54Speaker 1: hundred yards because I because originally I'm looking, I'm like, oh,
- 22:57Speaker 1: they shorten the fields because it looks like there's ten yards.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Usually it went to the forty um and then now
- 23:03Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's painted in a way, so you
- 23:06Speaker 1: have a little bit less, but eventually it will be
- 23:08Speaker 1: a full both of them will be full regulation fields. Yep.
- 23:13Speaker 1: You can see uh, right in the bottom right of
- 23:17Speaker 1: your screen. You can see just the edge of that
- 23:19Speaker 1: new wall that they built, um panned down to that.
- 23:23Speaker 1: You know, you know my pitches. I think the next
- 23:25Speaker 1: construction thing needs to happen here is we need to
- 23:27Speaker 1: put some uh covering for the bleachers to give those
- 23:31Speaker 1: fans some shade. I think it's one of the hottest
- 23:33Speaker 1: places on earth when it gets hot here in the summer,
- 23:35Speaker 1: it's not a bad little bit a little bit of
- 23:37Speaker 1: a tent cover those people up. I think uh might
- 23:39Speaker 1: be might be nice. And so every year you gotta
- 23:41Speaker 1: instead of printing, instead of making all the fans and
- 23:44Speaker 1: handing out manual little hand fans to everybody, just just
- 23:46Speaker 1: put it. Put put some covering up. Keep everybody cool.
- 23:49Speaker 1: It's so hot. Yeah, I would imagine that wouldn't be
- 23:52Speaker 1: terribly hard to do. You know, some type of aluminum
- 23:55Speaker 1: type of you know, roof over that it's get a canvas. Yeah,
- 23:59Speaker 1: you just want you don't want to create any you
- 24:01Speaker 1: don't want to create any obstructive view for anybody. That yeah, right,
- 24:04Speaker 1: Oh for sure. So getting a little little kind of
- 24:08Speaker 1: walk through usually it's the kind of walkthrough stuff they
- 24:10Speaker 1: do right before stretching. But setting the stage a little
- 24:14Speaker 1: bit maybe. Yeah, and Bill pointing out too, Paul. We
- 24:19Speaker 1: talked about it yesterday, all about the extensive red zone work,
- 24:21Speaker 1: and I want, I mean, is this why like backing
- 24:24Speaker 1: up the field a little bit to keep the end
- 24:27Speaker 1: zone away from the from the uprights? Is that no,
- 24:30Speaker 1: you know something? Maybe? No, Okay, I'm not according to
- 24:33Speaker 1: my sources, tell me see direct snapped to Jones and
- 24:40Speaker 1: uh and the Welton John's sightings yet right, I was
- 24:43Speaker 1: kind of hoping he might come out here. I don't
- 24:45Speaker 1: think we will see him. No, No, from what I understand, Um,
- 24:49Speaker 1: is he actually here? He is, uh, you know, just
- 24:50Speaker 1: playing recordings. Yeah, this is supposedly his last tour. He
- 24:56Speaker 1: doesn't want really a lot of contact with human beings. Um,
- 25:00Speaker 1: because no, easy it just doesn't want to get the COVID. Yeah.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I would have been a good get on Patriots on
- 25:06Speaker 1: filter get Elton John comes out in this platform shoes. Yeah,
- 25:09Speaker 1: so Marc Jones, what do you think, Elton? Yeah, but yeah,
- 25:15Speaker 1: they did have the concert last night, and I'll have
- 25:16Speaker 1: another one tonight here to LUs Stadium, Melton, John, and
- 25:20Speaker 1: you guys stay late. No, I would, I would if
- 25:25Speaker 1: I don't know, if there's any emails that go out
- 25:27Speaker 1: about obstructive view seats or anything of the nature, I might,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I might pop over. But yeah, that's an all time
- 25:32Speaker 1: all timer, right, John, you can't. He couldn't pass up
- 25:35Speaker 1: that chance. That's true to see one of the greatest
- 25:38Speaker 1: just got him on his next farewell tour. Yeah, all right.
- 25:41Speaker 1: That does happen a lot, though, doesn't it. They changed
- 25:43Speaker 1: the name of the tour is Farewell Yellow Brick Road.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I don't know why they just didn't stick with Goodbye
- 25:48Speaker 1: Yellow Brick Road. I mean it, that'll be that, that'll
- 25:51Speaker 1: be the other one, that'll be the next one. First
- 25:52Speaker 1: year fairly well, so, so long farewell of each Yeah,
- 25:57Speaker 1: that's the order. I can't always come on sound of music.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Let's go so that I know what it is. I
- 26:05Speaker 1: just don't need to have a song to me. Eric's
- 26:07Speaker 1: no longer on the show. So this part of the
- 26:09Speaker 1: practice is really just they're kind of installing what they're
- 26:11Speaker 1: going to do later when the offense and defense comes together.
- 26:16Speaker 1: So it's it's really just half speed, just kind of
- 26:19Speaker 1: walking through what they're gonna do later in the in
- 26:22Speaker 1: the practice. But we see Freends as center. Yeah, does
- 26:26Speaker 1: that answer the question that he's the backup center for sure? Yeah?
- 26:29Speaker 1: I mean just the veteran knows what he's doing. I
- 26:31Speaker 1: mean I think that's you know, generally, I feel like
- 26:33Speaker 1: sometimes even when you've got somebody in that's new and exciting,
- 26:37Speaker 1: they might keep the old veteran in there just because
- 26:39Speaker 1: he knows what he's doing and they want to establish
- 26:42Speaker 1: the right way to do things. Like an example might
- 26:44Speaker 1: be Brandon Bolden, where like you knew in the past,
- 26:46Speaker 1: all right, Damian Harris is going to be the guy,
- 26:47Speaker 1: but he's a rookie, doesn't know quite what he's doing.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Get Brandon Bolden in there, let him take the initial
- 26:52Speaker 1: reps and um. So that could be a too, but
- 26:55Speaker 1: we'll keep an eye on Cody Russey. But you know,
- 26:57Speaker 1: just something to point out too. So we talk about
- 27:00Speaker 1: when you know, the offense kind of divides up into
- 27:02Speaker 1: two groups and there's kind of an A group and
- 27:03Speaker 1: a B group, and you know, for all the hype
- 27:05Speaker 1: of you know, a Trey Nixon, he's still kind of
- 27:07Speaker 1: in that B group. So I mean it's it's, you know,
- 27:09Speaker 1: people I know want to see something out of him,
- 27:11Speaker 1: but it's it's still going to be a long climb
- 27:13Speaker 1: for him with all those veteran receivers. And I'm not
- 27:15Speaker 1: overreacting to one sort of non competitive day that we've had,
- 27:19Speaker 1: but he did not yeah, look good yesterday. I thought
- 27:22Speaker 1: he was covered very well on some of his some
- 27:26Speaker 1: of the plays that he was involved in. Okay, all right,
- 27:29Speaker 1: so I as you know, while the team is doing
- 27:31Speaker 1: you know, these warm ups or run throughs, let's take
- 27:35Speaker 1: a couple of calls at eight five five pats five hundred,
- 27:38Speaker 1: the Ace ticket hunt line. We'll start with Patty in Agawam.
- 27:41Speaker 1: What's up, Patty? What's up? Everyone? Hey, just got a
- 27:46Speaker 1: quick question regarding M. Devin Gotchaw's new contract. Do you
- 27:50Speaker 1: think this could possibly put Laurence Guy into that surprize
- 27:54Speaker 1: cut candidate list? Yeah? Yeah, for this um yeah, or
- 27:58Speaker 1: even trade yeah, absolutely, But he doesn't he's not making
- 28:03Speaker 1: that much money. You don't And and like in the
- 28:07Speaker 1: neighborhood of like three million this year, and Haddie, if
- 28:10Speaker 1: it's if they've determined that it's not Godshaw's fault that
- 28:13Speaker 1: they allow over four and a half yards to carry
- 28:15Speaker 1: as a team, then it's got to be someone's fault
- 28:17Speaker 1: that plays in the front seven. Yeah, so that's why
- 28:20Speaker 1: I would say, Yes, that's my initial reaction. Someone's got
- 28:22Speaker 1: to be responsible for the fact that they can't stop
- 28:24Speaker 1: the run. And what's Henry Anderson's status right now? I
- 28:28Speaker 1: wanted to bring him up because Mike talked about him
- 28:30Speaker 1: yesterday sort of you know, dropping a little bit in
- 28:32Speaker 1: some of the reps and thanks, I'm just sort of
- 28:34Speaker 1: watching and he is over with the outside linebackers doing
- 28:37Speaker 1: some of the pre practice drills with Judean and Perkins
- 28:40Speaker 1: and some of those guys. You wouldn't necessarily think of
- 28:42Speaker 1: him and that that light. So I wonder if maybe
- 28:44Speaker 1: they're you know, don't be stunned if you see him
- 28:47Speaker 1: as the guy setting the edge on the other side
- 28:49Speaker 1: of Judean at least initially. Great great observation, Paul, I mean,
- 28:52Speaker 1: it's Mike. I want to get the affirmation. No, it's
- 28:56Speaker 1: it's true. I didn't I didn't quite catch that, but
- 28:58Speaker 1: it was something that you know, we noted yesterday. And
- 29:01Speaker 1: he's one of those guys. I mean, it's not a
- 29:03Speaker 1: it's not a big deal, like a guy who can
- 29:05Speaker 1: on first second down set the edge and and and
- 29:07Speaker 1: be set that hard presence out there. I wondered if
- 29:10Speaker 1: it might be Anthony Jennings that that's he's got the size.
- 29:12Speaker 1: He kind of did that in college. Yeah, but I
- 29:15Speaker 1: still think that, you know, a proven veteran like Henry Anderson,
- 29:18Speaker 1: if he's comfortable doing that kind of thing, it could
- 29:21Speaker 1: it could he could be right in the mix with
- 29:23Speaker 1: that position group because I think they're thin and before
- 29:25Speaker 1: I you know, sort of annoyed him as the starter.
- 29:27Speaker 1: He also could try to do that and they don't
- 29:30Speaker 1: really see it's a fit and they're like, well, what
- 29:32Speaker 1: is it exactly is it that you do here? And
- 29:34Speaker 1: then he's fawn too. Yeah. You know, when it comes
- 29:37Speaker 1: to when it comes to cut down, Elx is a
- 29:40Speaker 1: good audience as long as it's like after ninety five,
- 29:44Speaker 1: when she was born two thousand ish to the present,
- 29:48Speaker 1: she's she's a good audience when it comes to cut
- 29:50Speaker 1: down time. You know, we always talk about it's a
- 29:52Speaker 1: numbers game. You know. They can only keep so many
- 29:55Speaker 1: wide receivers so many, and they can only keep so
- 29:58Speaker 1: many interior tack especially if they're changing the defense a
- 30:03Speaker 1: little bit, you know, So how many they keep of
- 30:07Speaker 1: each position on defense gives us an indication of what
- 30:10Speaker 1: kind of defense they're gonna run. There were changing the defense,
- 30:13Speaker 1: well no, but I mean, like we talked about like
- 30:15Speaker 1: you know, you know, we had Evan Lazar on the
- 30:18Speaker 1: other day and he was talking about this dollar defense,
- 30:20Speaker 1: you know, where you've got seven, seven defensive backs. Well,
- 30:24Speaker 1: you know, if you have seven defensive backs, you have
- 30:26Speaker 1: don't have any less of something, you know, So maybe
- 30:29Speaker 1: you don't need that many interior defensive linemen. You know,
- 30:33Speaker 1: I don't know. Well, it's just with gotcha at least
- 30:35Speaker 1: tells you that there's there's a need going forward for
- 30:38Speaker 1: a big nose tackle type, you know, two gapping interior
- 30:42Speaker 1: defensive linemen. So, uh, you know, had they had they
- 30:45Speaker 1: gone out and tried to match bar More, maybe maybe
- 30:48Speaker 1: it would be a little bit different. I mean, they're
- 30:49Speaker 1: always going to want a number of pieces to play
- 30:52Speaker 1: different kind of fronts here and there. So I mean,
- 30:54Speaker 1: I think he is a useful piece, but it's gonna
- 30:56Speaker 1: be hard to say. I mean, I think more of
- 30:58Speaker 1: it is about the linebackers, and you know, without that
- 31:01Speaker 1: ability a high tower van noy to be inside on
- 31:04Speaker 1: early downs, to shift outside, to kind of move around,
- 31:07Speaker 1: how much of that can they do? You know with
- 31:09Speaker 1: ray Kwa McMillan, uh, you know, potentially with with mac
- 31:12Speaker 1: Wilson as well. Um, those are those are probably where
- 31:15Speaker 1: that the scheme change kind of tweaks. You're probably gonna
- 31:17Speaker 1: live so now and to continue the Henry Anderson stuff.
- 31:19Speaker 1: So now they've sort of broken apart a little bit,
- 31:22Speaker 1: and you know, the Judeon's, the ouchas um, you know,
- 31:25Speaker 1: and those types with the regular linebackers are a little
- 31:28Speaker 1: bit separate now from and Anderson is back with sort
- 31:31Speaker 1: of the traditional bigger bodies. But your boy, I think,
- 31:35Speaker 1: is that Jennings down there with Anderson. I can't it's
- 31:38Speaker 1: a little out of my range. Ut fifty eight or
- 31:41Speaker 1: fifty nine might be Sam Roberts, So he's with some
- 31:46Speaker 1: of the bigger guys now. Um, so you know, I
- 31:50Speaker 1: think they're still mixing and matching and trying to figure
- 31:52Speaker 1: out exactly, you know, to Fred's point, how you want
- 31:55Speaker 1: to employ the front seven. You know, how many how
- 31:58Speaker 1: many will you have in the front seven? How that
- 32:00Speaker 1: that's a good Uh yeah, that's an indie artist. How
- 32:03Speaker 1: many guys seven? Yeah, it might only be four five.
- 32:08Speaker 1: You know. One more thing I was thinking about yesterday.
- 32:12Speaker 1: You know, got got a lot of confusion initially with
- 32:15Speaker 1: the number one and Parker and Harry, But it really
- 32:18Speaker 1: took one practice for DeVante Parker to show you what
- 32:21Speaker 1: an actual contested catch receiver looks like compared to what
- 32:25Speaker 1: we respected, compared to what they told you. Harry was
- 32:29Speaker 1: he saw one practice where he had two three four catches,
- 32:32Speaker 1: tight coverage. Mac was able to put it on him
- 32:34Speaker 1: and get it. You know, maybe you saw one or
- 32:36Speaker 1: two of those from during training camp from Harry. Everyone
- 32:39Speaker 1: you knows, Oh well, he's good at contest to catch.
- 32:41Speaker 1: That's what a contest to catch receiver looks like. Somebody
- 32:43Speaker 1: that you can trust when the guy's right on him.
- 32:46Speaker 1: You know that. And I think that kind of illustrates
- 32:48Speaker 1: what they were probably hoping that they got and what
- 32:50Speaker 1: now they're hoping they're getting out of. Let's get back
- 32:53Speaker 1: to the phones. Let's go to Roger and Kentucky what's up, Roger? Hey, guys,
- 32:57Speaker 1: how's everybody doing? Good? Man? Hey, I got a comment
- 33:01Speaker 1: and two quick questions for you. First comment is I
- 33:04Speaker 1: forgot who who was it called earlier in the week
- 33:06Speaker 1: or it might have been last week, But I agree
- 33:08Speaker 1: you all should do a video podcast. Okay. I would
- 33:12Speaker 1: watch the heck out of that every day? All right? Okay,
- 33:17Speaker 1: well almost every day. I missed yesterday's podcast, so I
- 33:20Speaker 1: was wondering what the chemistry between Mac and the receivers are.
- 33:26Speaker 1: And then my last question, I'll take the answers off
- 33:29Speaker 1: the airs. Who's going to replace Eric as a snooty
- 33:32Speaker 1: know it all? We got Alex. We'll fight out, probably
- 33:38Speaker 1: won't be for a while, but we got one of
- 33:40Speaker 1: the pip I don't know about snooty. Thanks rogers A.
- 33:46Speaker 1: So what was his first question? Again? Um? The chemistry
- 33:50Speaker 1: with right now pretty great? Look pretty good. If he
- 33:53Speaker 1: was working around yesterday, it seemed like to the main guys,
- 33:56Speaker 1: everybody you know had at least one or two pretty
- 33:58Speaker 1: good little catches and other I don't think there's any
- 34:01Speaker 1: doubt that at some point during training camp we'll find
- 34:04Speaker 1: out that he's been named the captain mate, right, I
- 34:08Speaker 1: think Mac has like genuinely taking taken hold of the team.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I don't think there's is You're not hearing as many
- 34:16Speaker 1: comments as we are from these different players if it
- 34:19Speaker 1: was all fake, you know, I think I think he's
- 34:22Speaker 1: impressed people with his work ethic, his commitment, his uh,
- 34:28Speaker 1: his leadership. I think all around. I think people have
- 34:30Speaker 1: been impressed with him. And it's and they're telling you,
- 34:34Speaker 1: you know, like born offensive line. I mean, Trent Brown,
- 34:37Speaker 1: you say said, listen, I'm not in the business of
- 34:39Speaker 1: evaluating our quarterback, but he's a great player and he's
- 34:42Speaker 1: going to be our quarterback for a long time or
- 34:44Speaker 1: something along those lines. I don't think that you just
- 34:47Speaker 1: say stuff like that just as lip service when it's
- 34:49Speaker 1: so many different guys. And to your point too, it's
- 34:52Speaker 1: not that they're just saying it kind of like company line,
- 34:54Speaker 1: that's what you say. It's like their eyes are really
- 34:57Speaker 1: lighting up when they're talking about him, their smiles like them.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I think they really do. Yep, it's not really hard
- 35:04Speaker 1: to see why. It's just the way he carries himself.
- 35:06Speaker 1: He just seems like, you know, he loves football, good kid,
- 35:10Speaker 1: able to laugh a little bit. I mean, I loved yesterday.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Where's the middle of the press conference, somebody, I love
- 35:14Speaker 1: you back, and you know he kind of laughed a
- 35:15Speaker 1: little joker laugh. But uh, it's just a likable guy.
- 35:18Speaker 1: And then, like we said many times, he's just done
- 35:20Speaker 1: all the right stuff this offseason and you know, now
- 35:22Speaker 1: it's about putting it on the field. And it's just
- 35:24Speaker 1: been one day. So again, I don't like to overreact,
- 35:27Speaker 1: but haven't seen any of the signs of the tennis
- 35:30Speaker 1: player that we saw last year during training. Cool, I
- 35:33Speaker 1: like that, Oh when things when things go wrong, yeah,
- 35:35Speaker 1: the mac and row. Yeah yeah, well not a lot
- 35:38Speaker 1: went wrong yesterday. So but but well, I mean there
- 35:41Speaker 1: were times when the defense was knocking passes away and
- 35:44Speaker 1: you know, making life difficulty. Yet you know a couple
- 35:46Speaker 1: of times he was forced to hold the ball and
- 35:48Speaker 1: last year might have elicited a couple of those pounding
- 35:51Speaker 1: of the thighpads and you know, storming back. I mean,
- 35:54Speaker 1: mind that as long as you bounced right back. Yeah,
- 35:57Speaker 1: you know, like I think that was an issue for
- 35:59Speaker 1: him last year. Yeah, I think he got down on himself.
- 36:01Speaker 1: I mean I think it was an issue for the
- 36:02Speaker 1: whole offense. You know, I think when they got down,
- 36:04Speaker 1: it was it was a tough grind to get it.
- 36:06Speaker 1: And that's why, you know, maybe it's not this week,
- 36:08Speaker 1: maybe it's in the proverbial dog days of summer in
- 36:10Speaker 1: the next couple of weeks, but you know, you want
- 36:12Speaker 1: to see that day where they're not on and they're struggling,
- 36:16Speaker 1: and how does Mac rally those troops, you know, what
- 36:18Speaker 1: is his I mean, I'm sure you guys saw it
- 36:20Speaker 1: a hundred times out here when Brady wasn't happy with
- 36:22Speaker 1: how things were going and start yelling and tell him.
- 36:26Speaker 1: He'd tell them to do it and get him in gear,
- 36:28Speaker 1: and so that they'd want to bring him out and
- 36:30Speaker 1: bring in you know whoever the backup is he's like, no, yeah,
- 36:33Speaker 1: we're gonna do this again. And that's you know, and
- 36:35Speaker 1: that's I think what's been part of Mac, you know,
- 36:36Speaker 1: going back to you know, Alabama his his first year
- 36:39Speaker 1: when he first died. I think it was Auburn that
- 36:41Speaker 1: he lost too. It was a back and forth game.
- 36:43Speaker 1: He got Clawbert, he got sacked a bunch. I think,
- 36:45Speaker 1: you know, generally he's been able to bounce back in
- 36:47Speaker 1: his career. Um, but I'd love to see you know,
- 36:50Speaker 1: a bad day of practice from the offense, how do
- 36:52Speaker 1: they do the next day. You know, there's going to
- 36:54Speaker 1: be times this season that they aren't able to do
- 36:56Speaker 1: what they want to do. They they're gonna have to
- 36:58Speaker 1: be mentally tough because there's so many good offenses. They're
- 37:00Speaker 1: gonna have to put up points. And if it doesn't
- 37:02Speaker 1: go great in the first quarter, they're gonna have to
- 37:04Speaker 1: be able to get their buttsing gear. You don't be
- 37:06Speaker 1: able to put up some points if they're going to
- 37:07Speaker 1: be a legitimate playoff contending team this year. All right,
- 37:10Speaker 1: let's go to Chris and North Carolina on the East
- 37:12Speaker 1: ticket hut line. What's up, Chris? Hey, what's going on? Man?
- 37:16Speaker 1: Sitting here with the boys watching the show this morning? Sable? Nice? Nice?
- 37:20Speaker 1: I wish I was with you guys. Good time. Now,
- 37:23Speaker 1: what kind of device are you're watching us on? We're
- 37:26Speaker 1: watching on YouTube, but usually man, I were watching y'all
- 37:29Speaker 1: on my phone, so you know it's either way. You
- 37:31Speaker 1: always catch up. Okay, thank you, get on the big
- 37:34Speaker 1: screen big screen conjections. I did add two questions, m Well,
- 37:41Speaker 1: I wanted to know who you think might take on
- 37:44Speaker 1: the number one CB position this year and also, which
- 37:48Speaker 1: players do we do you think that we have now
- 37:51Speaker 1: that our solid tacklers that gonna help out in the
- 37:53Speaker 1: run defense. Okay, good questions. So who's gonna be the
- 37:58Speaker 1: number one cornerback? Who's gonna be your number one with
- 38:02Speaker 1: tackles this year? Right? I guess against the run? Yeah,
- 38:06Speaker 1: I mean I kind of look at it kind of,
- 38:07Speaker 1: thanks Chris. The receivers where it's not really a number one,
- 38:11Speaker 1: it's kind of an A and a B. And perhaps
- 38:13Speaker 1: probably right now, probably Terrence Mitchell maybe and Jalen Mills
- 38:17Speaker 1: might be that the two starters, but I couldn't tell
- 38:19Speaker 1: you if either one of them is the quote unquote
- 38:22Speaker 1: number one. I mean, I think they're going to be
- 38:23Speaker 1: the two starters. But well, you know, so here's the
- 38:27Speaker 1: thing about cornerback. Okay, you know, Jonathan Jones is probably
- 38:32Speaker 1: the guy with the most experience right now. Sure I'm
- 38:35Speaker 1: the team, but he's going to be more of an
- 38:37Speaker 1: inside guy. And you don't really look at those guys
- 38:39Speaker 1: as your number one corner you know, you look at
- 38:41Speaker 1: your number one corners the guy that handles the other
- 38:44Speaker 1: team's best receiver you know, most of the game. So
- 38:48Speaker 1: who is that they don't have that. Yeah, yeah, I
- 38:50Speaker 1: said Jalen Mills is their number one corner because he's
- 38:53Speaker 1: the only guy that I know will play, you know,
- 38:55Speaker 1: provided that he's healthy. But to you a point, Freddie,
- 38:58Speaker 1: I don't think Jalen Mills is a We're gonna match
- 39:00Speaker 1: him up with Tyreek Hill guy, right or Jalen Wattle
- 39:04Speaker 1: guy like you know, Stefan Diggs, you know, just you know,
- 39:06Speaker 1: Mike went down the murderers role or receivers that they're
- 39:09Speaker 1: going to see this year. I don't think that Jalen
- 39:11Speaker 1: Mills is a matchup guy. So so does that does that,
- 39:15Speaker 1: you know, uh, lend to the theory that you know,
- 39:18Speaker 1: this is gonna be a zone heavy team. That's what
- 39:20Speaker 1: I was just kind of thinking. I mean, do they
- 39:21Speaker 1: have their horses? Do they have the horses to match
- 39:24Speaker 1: up one for one or is it just gonna play sides,
- 39:27Speaker 1: you know like they used to. And I mean I
- 39:29Speaker 1: think they have a lot of auctions on the inside,
- 39:30Speaker 1: like you mentioned, Fred, between the safeties, between some of
- 39:33Speaker 1: the you know, new linebackers. Um, but it's it's hard
- 39:37Speaker 1: to say that all we there's no there's no real
- 39:39Speaker 1: difference between you know, Mills and Mitchell and you know,
- 39:43Speaker 1: maybe even Butler. They're all kind of similar players. So
- 39:47Speaker 1: we'll see. But now be prior to like them getting
- 39:50Speaker 1: revers or you know, you know, uh to lead, weren't
- 39:56Speaker 1: they mostly his zone? Yea, yeah, I mean annual. Yeah,
- 40:00Speaker 1: I mean I think, I mean, I think Tai Long
- 40:02Speaker 1: was definitely no more. Yeah, but there was not probably
- 40:05Speaker 1: a little bit more of a zone. And that was
- 40:07Speaker 1: that stretch after Samuel left where they when they didn't
- 40:09Speaker 1: have corners. Yeah, they were just searching. Yeah, and that's
- 40:12Speaker 1: what Mike said, like they went to sides. Yeah, they
- 40:14Speaker 1: didn't have guys. Yeah, a lot of a lot of
- 40:15Speaker 1: you know, covered three and just you know, strong safety
- 40:18Speaker 1: Rodney in the box. And I mean I had those
- 40:20Speaker 1: secondaries do oh well, that's the thing. If you can
- 40:22Speaker 1: play man, you play man, right, you know, that's what
- 40:25Speaker 1: you do because it frees people up, it gives you
- 40:27Speaker 1: more flexibility. Um. And I mean in the theory was
- 40:30Speaker 1: at least you know what we were pumping at the
- 40:31Speaker 1: time when they went to leave. And then as you mentioned,
- 40:33Speaker 1: like Rivus and everything was just that quarterbacks and receivers
- 40:36Speaker 1: are too good like you, They're gonna find the holes
- 40:38Speaker 1: in the zones. You know, there's no zone defense that's
- 40:41Speaker 1: gonna be perfect. I mean, I know they play a
- 40:42Speaker 1: lot of you know, match coverage, which is kind of
- 40:44Speaker 1: a mix of of man and zone where you know,
- 40:46Speaker 1: guy crosses and you take them. So you know there'll
- 40:49Speaker 1: be a lot of elements of that too, which kind
- 40:50Speaker 1: of marries some of the concepts between man and zone.
- 40:53Speaker 1: But I just think it's a matchup league. And you
- 40:55Speaker 1: look at the outside cornerbacks that they have and the
- 40:57Speaker 1: outside receivers that they got a face and and it
- 40:59Speaker 1: looked like right now, advantage opponents. You see some of
- 41:02Speaker 1: the defensive lineman doing a drill now where they start
- 41:04Speaker 1: in a shoot and the idea is to stay low,
- 41:08Speaker 1: drive out of that shoot, don't touch it. Um low
- 41:11Speaker 1: man wins Fred. Yeah. So that's a iron sharp AND's irons.
- 41:14Speaker 1: That's a fairly new contraption. I think they came up
- 41:16Speaker 1: with that last year. What's the first year they used this.
- 41:19Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know about you guys, but coming
- 41:21Speaker 1: back to even my stupid high school football days, we
- 41:23Speaker 1: had a thing kind of similar that you know, made
- 41:25Speaker 1: you made you have to get down. It was made
- 41:27Speaker 1: a metal you know, but oz was made a rope.
- 41:30Speaker 1: But I think it's it's, you know, the concept at
- 41:32Speaker 1: least of just keeping your pad level down and trying
- 41:34Speaker 1: to get your helmet on it. Of course, myself, as
- 41:36Speaker 1: a i'd call myself a high cut hip bender, was
- 41:41Speaker 1: not able to get under those things very easily. But yeah,
- 41:45Speaker 1: it's you know, all about pad level and staying down
- 41:48Speaker 1: and staying in a in a good athletic stance. Yep,
- 41:51Speaker 1: web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address,
- 41:54Speaker 1: and we've got a whole bunch of them. Jack and
- 41:58Speaker 1: an Aba writes, And given that the Patriots unfiltered team
- 42:00Speaker 1: feels that Gotcha was a disappointment last season, does the
- 42:04Speaker 1: Patriots extension of Gotscha's contract indicate the Patriots believe Godsha
- 42:08Speaker 1: will make a significant year to jump in performance or
- 42:12Speaker 1: does it indicate the Patriots are worried about depth at
- 42:14Speaker 1: defensive tackle, so they're extending Gotcha because though he has
- 42:18Speaker 1: been a disappointment, he's still one of the three best
- 42:20Speaker 1: defensive tackles on the team. Can I pick a different
- 42:23Speaker 1: option than was given? Okay, I think they think they
- 42:27Speaker 1: think he was better than we do, right, Yeah, I
- 42:29Speaker 1: think you know, plus you know, Bill likes Drew Rosenhausen. Yeah,
- 42:32Speaker 1: but yeah, I mean, I mean, clearly if if this guy,
- 42:37Speaker 1: you know, just just don't be afraid to walk into
- 42:39Speaker 1: this those just walking on? What's that? What's happened? You
- 42:47Speaker 1: pay attention to that stuff? Chocolate chip COOKI guys, we'll
- 42:50Speaker 1: get it later. Yeah, I'm on a diet. I'm on
- 42:54Speaker 1: a diet. We got start traveling, I know, I know.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Just just just want a show, a show. That's why
- 43:03Speaker 1: we love Zoe, you know, Paul Zoe kind of falls
- 43:04Speaker 1: to Zoe show right there. You know, Zoe kind of
- 43:10Speaker 1: falls into Alex's gray zone though mid nineties like quarterback
- 43:13Speaker 1: mid nineties, Patriots quarterback of quarterback. It is, that's the
- 43:18Speaker 1: Zoe experience right there. Yeah, it is. No, but I
- 43:21Speaker 1: do I feel like, yeah, I'm if I'm being honest,
- 43:24Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't see a whole lot from Godshall
- 43:27Speaker 1: last year. But clearly they didn't think about him the
- 43:29Speaker 1: way I do. Right well, they wouldn't have done that yesterday.
- 43:33Speaker 1: I mean, all jokes about Rosenhouse aside, that's like they
- 43:37Speaker 1: clearly thought that they got more out of him than
- 43:39Speaker 1: I thought they got out you know, And let's face it,
- 43:42Speaker 1: they know more than we. I mean, come on, I'm
- 43:45Speaker 1: not trying to be like stubborn about this. They they're
- 43:48Speaker 1: the coaches. I consider it vindication because I was saying
- 43:50Speaker 1: that I think God Show is better than people are
- 43:52Speaker 1: giving credit for it. So I was vindicated there. You know,
- 43:56Speaker 1: well again, because you think everything Bill does is right.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I said it seventeen record post Brady, I said it
- 44:03Speaker 1: before Bill did the extension. No, I know, but you
- 44:06Speaker 1: think you're vindicated because Bill agrees with you. I think
- 44:08Speaker 1: he's vindicated because do you know what I'm saying, right,
- 44:11Speaker 1: your vindication comes from the fact that Bill apprees with you.
- 44:14Speaker 1: I don't know, like you know, the best coach in
- 44:16Speaker 1: the history of football agrees with me. Yeah, I look
- 44:18Speaker 1: at that as vindication. We'll see, you know, we'll see.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I mean, if they allow four point eight to carry again, no,
- 44:24Speaker 1: you'll be wrong again. And if it's his fault, I'll
- 44:27Speaker 1: be wrong. So you're just gonna say it's not his fault.
- 44:31Speaker 1: I don't know. I will again, look at what they do,
- 44:34Speaker 1: don't look at what they say. Right, But again, they
- 44:37Speaker 1: don't always do the right thing, Okay, but most of
- 44:40Speaker 1: the time they do not post Brady today. All right,
- 44:44Speaker 1: Alex writes in from Pentucket. It says he loves the coverage.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I'm curious in your opinion from watching yesterday, does Mack
- 44:51Speaker 1: look different than last year? Or do we need the
- 44:53Speaker 1: pads on to really tell? I wasn't sure if you
- 44:56Speaker 1: noticed anything about max demeanor or if he's playing faster.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Just wanted to know if Mac does look different in
- 45:03Speaker 1: year two. Also, is the knee brace Mac is wearing
- 45:06Speaker 1: mean he's injured or is it precautionary. I think the
- 45:09Speaker 1: knee brace is here to stay. I think he looks, uh,
- 45:11Speaker 1: you know, he looks a little more in control. I'm
- 45:13Speaker 1: not gonna lie to and tell you that his arm
- 45:15Speaker 1: looks stronger or that he looks more in control. I mean, right,
- 45:17Speaker 1: you're just watching him kind of do drills. It looks
- 45:19Speaker 1: a lot like it looked last year. His demeanor, I
- 45:21Speaker 1: would say, we talked about a little bit. I think
- 45:24Speaker 1: I think it looks a little better, But physically I
- 45:26Speaker 1: don't see any different in terms of demeanor and comportment. Yes,
- 45:30Speaker 1: you know, he looks he's a different guy. He looks
- 45:33Speaker 1: more comfortable, more comfortable, all of that stuff on the
- 45:36Speaker 1: on the eyeball test I would say, looks different. Yeah, physically,
- 45:39Speaker 1: I agree with me because remember, remember the circumstances last
- 45:42Speaker 1: year as a rookie, He's coming at Cam Newton was
- 45:45Speaker 1: still on the team. Yeah, you know, so there's no
- 45:48Speaker 1: way Cam Newton was gonna let anybody upstage him on
- 45:51Speaker 1: the field. And Mac wasn't in the business of trying
- 45:53Speaker 1: to do that at that point. You know, he's just
- 45:55Speaker 1: trying to understand where to go from drill to drill.
- 45:59Speaker 1: But now he knows. Yeah, I would just sum it up.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I think, you know, last year really impressed with his
- 46:04Speaker 1: presence and just for a rookie, looking comfortable overall. And
- 46:07Speaker 1: I think now he's just descended into the role of
- 46:09Speaker 1: this is this is my team. You know, he knows
- 46:11Speaker 1: he's the returning I mean we talked this offseason about
- 46:14Speaker 1: when was the last time Mac was the returning starting
- 46:16Speaker 1: quarterback for a team. I mean it was just hype
- 46:18Speaker 1: of the first time since you know, so it's it's
- 46:21Speaker 1: a little bit of a new thing for him, but
- 46:22Speaker 1: I think he's he's he's up to the task. And
- 46:24Speaker 1: you know, again, just to bring it back to like
- 46:26Speaker 1: it's just it's it's it's going to come down to
- 46:28Speaker 1: the games and production, the key moments and you know,
- 46:31Speaker 1: but I have no I have no knits to pick
- 46:33Speaker 1: about anything Mac Jones has done, you know, since his arrival,
- 46:36Speaker 1: and I think he's given us everything that he can.
- 46:38Speaker 1: So it's uh, some real nice throws yesterday too. We
- 46:41Speaker 1: saw some real nice throws last year in camp as well.
- 46:44Speaker 1: So uh, I'm excited to see the pads come on
- 46:47Speaker 1: and you know, see a little bit more competitive periods
- 46:50Speaker 1: and then that'll push him in the offense a little
- 46:52Speaker 1: bit more to Sean writes in h he's from New Milford.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I assume that's maybe Connecticut, not sure, but he says,
- 46:59Speaker 1: I was thinking of coming to the Friday practice, wondering
- 47:02Speaker 1: how early I should get there, and is parking free? Yep,
- 47:05Speaker 1: parking is free, and I don't I don't know if
- 47:09Speaker 1: Friday will be any different, But I don't think your
- 47:11Speaker 1: timing is all that important. I think getting here, I
- 47:14Speaker 1: think there's looks like people are haven't have plenty of
- 47:18Speaker 1: room to sort of move around and spread around. Yes
- 47:21Speaker 1: two days. I talked to a couple of fans yesterday
- 47:23Speaker 1: and the first people on mine we're here at eleven
- 47:26Speaker 1: thirty the night previous, which is insane and not necessary.
- 47:29Speaker 1: And then like a few people back in line, they're like, yeah,
- 47:32Speaker 1: we got here at seven. Yeah, we're right up front
- 47:35Speaker 1: against the ropes. So I think Friday will be good.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Practice starts at nine thirty, So anytime before that it's good.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Parking is free. If you're coming Saturday, it might be
- 47:44Speaker 1: a little bit more crowded if you're looking for, you know,
- 47:47Speaker 1: one of the park seats and the bleachers. Um, you
- 47:49Speaker 1: might want to get here a little earlier on Saturday,
- 47:52Speaker 1: but I think you'll be fine tomorrow. Even then, Like
- 47:54Speaker 1: they're not going to be in pad so I'm not
- 47:56Speaker 1: sure it's going to be that much different. But they
- 47:58Speaker 1: just it's Saturday. Lets you know, Bill said, most people, Paul,
- 48:03Speaker 1: most of the people that come here are kids with family.
- 48:06Speaker 1: They don't they don't listen to all that. They just oh,
- 48:09Speaker 1: it's it's free, so thanks Fred. Yeah, I'm autographs. I'm
- 48:13Speaker 1: telling you, they're just coming from autographs and free and
- 48:16Speaker 1: food and all that tape. They don't they don't actually
- 48:19Speaker 1: listen or read anither thing that thinks that you do.
- 48:23Speaker 1: The mom with the three kids, No, they're not you know,
- 48:25Speaker 1: if they're not, that's thought they were gonna be hitting
- 48:27Speaker 1: todayymrow right, But honestly, like a great way to come
- 48:32Speaker 1: spend a Friday or Saturday. There's not much free in
- 48:34Speaker 1: the world anymore. Great take. Yeah, it's a great take
- 48:37Speaker 1: if you have, especially if you have young kids. Yeah.
- 48:39Speaker 1: And I would say too, like when I used to come,
- 48:43Speaker 1: you know, back before, it could be so packed here
- 48:46Speaker 1: that you couldn't even really be comfortable and watch the practice.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I think it's still a crowded day, but at least
- 48:52Speaker 1: you have room to kind of move around a little bit.
- 48:54Speaker 1: They're still you know, if you want to squeeze into
- 48:55Speaker 1: a seat somewhere in the in the bleachers, they're there.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Is tomorrow's practice, isn't the season ticket holder now that
- 49:03Speaker 1: a week from week from tomorrow? I've thought so because Tim,
- 49:07Speaker 1: our friend from Duncan writes in he says, with the
- 49:09Speaker 1: pad's not coming on until Monday, do you think that
- 49:12Speaker 1: Friday season ticket holder practice will involve some real scrimmaging.
- 49:16Speaker 1: I go most years, but they seem to do little
- 49:18Speaker 1: compared to some of the other practices. So that's next Friday, Yeah, right,
- 49:22Speaker 1: And they're supposed to have four practices before that, so
- 49:25Speaker 1: it could very well just be the kind of in
- 49:28Speaker 1: stadium walkthrough of the game protocols like this is what
- 49:32Speaker 1: the where we come out, this is where we stand
- 49:34Speaker 1: for the national anthem, this is where we go for halftime,
- 49:38Speaker 1: you know, all that that kind of technical stuff, which
- 49:39Speaker 1: is interesting. I don't think we've ever had one of
- 49:42Speaker 1: those closed season ticket holder practice where it had hitting.
- 49:45Speaker 1: I said that, Yes, yeah, I agree. I couldn't remember
- 49:48Speaker 1: what you and you've seen them all in all seriousness, Yeah,
- 49:52Speaker 1: I don't think. Um, I don't think they're very and
- 49:55Speaker 1: you know it's a it's out of their schedule, it's
- 49:57Speaker 1: a night practice. You know, usually they've had practices leading
- 50:01Speaker 1: up to it. Yeah. Um, it's kind of just more
- 50:03Speaker 1: of a like celebration, get the fans back in the stadium.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Last year, they throw the ball all over the place,
- 50:07Speaker 1: so the receivers are making a lot of catch it.
- 50:09Speaker 1: You know, I'm serious, I mean sort of putting on
- 50:11Speaker 1: a little bit, you know. You know, I something that
- 50:13Speaker 1: be fuddled me yesterday josh Ucha talking about like there
- 50:17Speaker 1: weren't fans here last year at training camp. He was like, oh,
- 50:20Speaker 1: this is great to have fans back here and like,
- 50:22Speaker 1: weren't their fans last year? Like there were a lot
- 50:24Speaker 1: of people that were like said that this was the
- 50:25Speaker 1: first fans time back, and I'm like, we have before
- 50:28Speaker 1: I say anything more. We did, right, we did? I
- 50:31Speaker 1: thank you? I swear to God. I was like, right, well,
- 50:35Speaker 1: they only swear we held crowds last year, and I
- 50:39Speaker 1: was like, they did not, you know, I was told
- 50:41Speaker 1: they did not. I did the hype thing last year.
- 50:43Speaker 1: We talked to the crowds last year. I Oh, I
- 50:47Speaker 1: wish I were we talking to nobody. I was trying
- 50:49Speaker 1: to like a broken all the references yesterday, and I
- 50:54Speaker 1: think it was because of that quote. I think you're right.
- 50:57Speaker 1: And I was like, huh, I could swear we had
- 51:00Speaker 1: crowds last year at training camp and I would just
- 51:02Speaker 1: was another one of those shake my head moments, like
- 51:05Speaker 1: the old man's he can't even remember from one year
- 51:08Speaker 1: to the next. I started to think the same thing
- 51:09Speaker 1: I was questioned or my own like experience of talking
- 51:11Speaker 1: to the crowd. But yeah, the only thing different this
- 51:14Speaker 1: year from last year is that this year there will
- 51:17Speaker 1: be autographs, there's more contact. That is a change. Yes,
- 51:21Speaker 1: they Yeah, that was off limits last year and they
- 51:24Speaker 1: were signing yesterday. Yeah, I think the wide receivers signed,
- 51:28Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken yesterday, Cody writes in from Indiana,
- 51:31Speaker 1: piggybacking on a couple of calls. I also would watch
- 51:34Speaker 1: a video stream of the podcast. You already do it
- 51:36Speaker 1: for the pre and postgame shows. I don't really understand
- 51:39Speaker 1: the reticence that you have for video, especially considering how
- 51:44Speaker 1: you are the original podcast. Most pods nowadays are simulcast
- 51:48Speaker 1: on video. I would think of Face the Nation worthy
- 51:50Speaker 1: podcast in twenty twenty two would embrace the trends of
- 51:53Speaker 1: the day. Football question, what would you set the over
- 51:58Speaker 1: under for Davante Parker catch his yards and touchdowns at
- 52:01Speaker 1: this year? I don't. I mean, I don't think the
- 52:04Speaker 1: catches are unnecessarily mean. I think his career average usually
- 52:07Speaker 1: he's in like the forty to sixty ranges, is you know,
- 52:10Speaker 1: I mean, they always had injury issues, so that colors um.
- 52:13Speaker 1: But I would say, you know, not a lot of catches,
- 52:15Speaker 1: maybe like around forty fifty. But I think it's a touchdowns.
- 52:19Speaker 1: I mean, we saw yesterday he could be a real,
- 52:21Speaker 1: you know, red zone threat, especially on the outside. So um,
- 52:24Speaker 1: we you know, we'd love to see him get five
- 52:26Speaker 1: plus touchdowns, but you know, even he's around fifty catches
- 52:30Speaker 1: sixty seven yeah over hunders. Yeah, that sounds about fifty
- 52:36Speaker 1: eight hundred and five. Right, okay, what do you yeah,
- 52:40Speaker 1: um ninety eight, I'm gonna say seven six touchdowns. I'm
- 52:47Speaker 1: gonna say a record seventy nine hundred and six. Well,
- 52:52Speaker 1: what did uh, Paul, if you would wouldn't mind climbing
- 52:55Speaker 1: up out of Mount Cooks for a moment. What did
- 52:57Speaker 1: what did Cookie have here in his in his one year?
- 52:59Speaker 1: Because he had eleven hundred yards? Yeah, yeah, I don't
- 53:02Speaker 1: remember how many catches because I definitely a little different.
- 53:05Speaker 1: That's the stat out of those that I care the
- 53:07Speaker 1: least about it. It's yards and production, you know, like
- 53:11Speaker 1: what did he average per to catch? What did he
- 53:12Speaker 1: get in the end zone at all? Did he make
- 53:14Speaker 1: first dounds or his catches impactful? Yeah? You know, there's
- 53:18Speaker 1: just a little programming note for everybody. In less than
- 53:21Speaker 1: a minute, we'll be going dark in terms of the
- 53:24Speaker 1: video per team rules. You know, once they go into
- 53:28Speaker 1: the team drills, we can't put that live, but we
- 53:31Speaker 1: will continue with the show. Well, it'll be audio only,
- 53:35Speaker 1: So just stay where you are, keep listening, and we'll
- 53:39Speaker 1: try to visualize everything for you as best we can,
- 53:42Speaker 1: but the video will be going away and in a
- 53:44Speaker 1: matter of seconds here, so just just so if you
- 53:47Speaker 1: see that, it's nothing wrong. It's just what we have
- 53:50Speaker 1: to do. Sixty five for eleven hundred and seven, so
- 53:53Speaker 1: you have at sixteen point six. Yeah, it was ten
- 53:56Speaker 1: to eighty two to be exactly yards, all right. I
- 53:58Speaker 1: mean maybe a little high, but I think that's in
- 54:00Speaker 1: the general neighborhood and also probably the role that he
- 54:04Speaker 1: he would play. All right, you hear that horn. That
- 54:07Speaker 1: indicates the end of this session. So we're no video
- 54:12Speaker 1: for the rest of the show, but we will be
- 54:14Speaker 1: here for the rest of practice. Matt Morrel is at
- 54:16Speaker 1: a good time to take a break. Okay, let's do
- 54:19Speaker 1: that and we'll be right back after this. Want to

- 58:29Speaker 1: what's going on right now? What are what's the team doing?
- 58:32Speaker 1: They started a little seven on seven stuff and it
- 58:34Speaker 1: was interesting. They had Zappi takes some of the reps initially.
- 58:38Speaker 1: Now it looks like you have more of the front
- 58:40Speaker 1: liners out there with mac uh, you know, starting off
- 58:42Speaker 1: as they typically do with a quick, quick hitter to
- 58:45Speaker 1: the flat. That one was to Tie Montgomery, who you know,
- 58:49Speaker 1: he's a guy to keep in mind too, with you know,
- 58:51Speaker 1: the versatility that he obviously provides a sort of a
- 58:54Speaker 1: hybrid player. I wouldn't be stunned to see him, you know,
- 58:58Speaker 1: carve out that kind of a role. It seems like
- 58:59Speaker 1: he's definitely in the the upper echelon Nix. Yeah, as
- 59:03Speaker 1: I said, you would be, um guy who is a
- 59:07Speaker 1: running back who also plays wide receiver. You know, just
- 59:10Speaker 1: a couple of a couple of things point out I saw, Um,
- 59:13Speaker 1: I think ray Kwon McMillan is certainly seems like the
- 59:16Speaker 1: guy at the top of the linebacker depth chart next
- 59:18Speaker 1: to Jawan Bentley. But also saw uh some other reps
- 59:21Speaker 1: with Mac Wilson, you know, calling the defense too. So
- 59:24Speaker 1: two guys, I think definitely we'll be in the mix
- 59:26Speaker 1: and and we'll be a big part of replacing some
- 59:28Speaker 1: of those veteran linebackers. The weather today and yesterday just beautiful. Um,
- 59:33Speaker 1: a little bit more muggy today, I would say a
- 59:35Speaker 1: little bit more overcast, but just you know, we haven't
- 59:38Speaker 1: had the heat wave that we've had the last week
- 59:41Speaker 1: or two. So if you're a player, um, you know
- 59:45Speaker 1: you're thankful that it's not too bad. There's a breeze
- 59:47Speaker 1: going on. Uh So, just just perfect weather here for
- 59:51Speaker 1: training camp. It's great for the fans. Black of sun.
- 59:54Speaker 1: Today's great, I mean just a little hazy, but yep,
- 59:57Speaker 1: not getting baked. Eight five five paths one hundred is
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: a sticket hotline. Uh, the phones are stacked, so let's
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: get him. Edward is in South Carolina. What's that? What's
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: up Edward? Edward? It's your time to shine Edward in
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: three two one? Sorry you missed your opportunity. Let's go
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: to Neil in New Jersey. What's up, Neil? Uh? Neil?
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: I don't think it out there. Seems like it's a
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Fred problem up there? We Goil, what's up? Good morning?
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: How are you guys? Good? So I want to ask
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: you guys, regarding Jack Jones and Marcus Jones or rookies,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: do you see them having some decent plane time and
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: one of them probably even starting well, I you know,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: of the two when it comes to actually playing on defense,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: do you think Jack Jones has the edge? Maybe? Yeah,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: I mean there's not much above him. I mean he's
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: kind of the second group of cornerbacks, so I mean he's,
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: you know, maybe third in the depth chart right now
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: with him and Malcolm Butler kind of the second grouping.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: So I think he's gonna have every chance to compete
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: for that job. But I think the most direct way
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: to get somebody probably likely will be Marcus Jones, at
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: least as the punt returner. But right now it seems
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: like Jack Jones in the mix on the outside corner position,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Marcus punt returner, probably more of a slot yeah. I
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: mean it all depends on on health. Like Marcus Jones
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: is getting a lot of reps in the slot with
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Sean Wade right now, but Jonathan Jones is not practicing.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: So if Jonathan Jones is part of the mix, you
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: figured he's he'd be the first, the first option inside,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Whereas I think Jack Jones is probably I don't know,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: maybe four. You know, if you if you go to
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Jalen Mills and Terrence Mitchell and Malcolm Butler. But again,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: these things can change. It's it's fluid. I think that
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: you'll see Jack Jones probably as part of the mix defensively,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: and maybe Marcus, if everybody is healthy, is more of
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: a as Mike said, more of a punt return option. Yeah.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Tamara made a good point this morning just talking about
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: you know, Jack Jones is the kind of guy we
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: saw on minim getting his hands on a lot of
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: love balls, just actively involved. So I think if he
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: can start to get that going again, um, he might
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: have a chance to kind of push things. I mean
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: it's I don't think much is setting stone at cornerback? Yeah,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: answer your question. Okay, that answers my question. Do you
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: have concerns about his height though from the outside, Yeah, sure, yeah, definitely.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I mean I was just looking at him through the
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: two those and I mean it's more. I mean Marcus
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: seems just kind of short. I mean Jack Jones is
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: more skinny like Marcus is is kind of squatty. But
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: but Jack is lean and but Paul, you know quick,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: it's not about the dog in the fight. It's about
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: the fight in the dog. Thank you, Kevin Faalk Okay,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: thanks Dale guy. All right, let's go to Christian in LA.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: What's up Christian? Hey, good morning guys, and training camp
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: is back and we are underway. Um, so here's my
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: quick surprise cut for the season here for training camp.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: I believe Pierre Strong and also Thailandgomery are going to
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: really turn it up and turn it on as far
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: as catching out the backfield. And I think James White
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: will be a surprise cut if not kept on to
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: just to sort of teach those guys the real ropes
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: of how to come out of the backfield. What do
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: you guys think? I don't know if they cut James White,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: James James White might just decide to, yeah, play. I
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: think why you bring him back, like like why I
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: caught him? Just put him on pup. Let him sit
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: for six weeks, see what he's got out. You know,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: if they felt like he could physically play, I think
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: he'd be back. But yeah, I don't. I don't think
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: that he's going to be a part of what they
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: do this year. I don't. I just feel like, right,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: so you have this guy on certainly no surprise. We
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: gotta we got a ball loose over there and in
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: the ball security drill J J. Taylor, he's gonna he's
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: gonna hit the bricks. Not good. Yep, So we have
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: him one do you guys just have him on this
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: on the rosters taking up the spot even if the
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: pup for the rest of that, well that doesn't take
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: that doesn't take up a spot. Okay. You know if
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: people all Belichick going like okay, you know, get rid
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: of him one year or too soon before one year
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: too late, that's sort of thing. And then lastly, for
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: you guys, have you guys seen anything from hikon Thornton?
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Have you seen him run route, Like, why are they
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: hiding him with something? No, No, he's been out here,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: He's been out here. He looks fast. I mean you
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: can see it. I mean, Chris, you know he hasn't
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: made He had a couple of catches yesterday. Um, but
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: I do think his speed is I thought Bill arn
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: and I thought Bill spent a lot of time with
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: him yesterday sort of going over some of that. That
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: was that's a that's a great thing to point out.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: And I watched the video of it. Um, I think
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: the camera guys Moose Moose and Glen posted that and
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: and it was pretty apparent, like you watch their video
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: and you see what Thornton kind of does and it's
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: kind of, uh, too many stutter steps before you know,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: breaking to the right side. And Bill kind of walked
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: him through it and showed, you know, it's playting your
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: left foot, throwing a quick little head fake and then
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: going to the right just less steps, more efficient h
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: with his movement. So that that's the stuff he's got
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: to learn, you know, the nuance to route running. And
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: it's a big part of what they do here, what
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: they do in the NFL, and one of the hardest
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: things for for college receivers making the jump to his
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: defense too. Um, he did. He was in position when
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: they were running those routes in the red zone yesterday
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: where Bailey's abbey just kind of really overthrew him and
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: didn't really get a chance to show anything off. Yeah,
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: he had one nice catch. I think it was from
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: from Mack. But you know, I mean, look again, I've
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: said a couple of times like I just I think
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: for him, just just keep coming out here every day.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Like we come out here and he's not here in
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: one day, that's that's the worst thing that can happen.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: But as long as he's out here, he definitely seems
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: in the mix. With the veteran group above him. It
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: seems like they're trying to get him involved with that.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: He's not kind of an afterthought on, you know, one
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: of the side fields. So he's going to be involved.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: I just keep your eyes out for maybe a splash
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: player too. But you can see that, you can see
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: the speed. You can just kind of see how those
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: guys run. I was never one of those guys. Were
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: you a fast soccer player out? So? Did you have
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: speed when you played soccer? Um? I did, but I
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: ended up playing center back, so I didn't really need
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: to utilize it once. You gotta be tough, though, you
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: gotta cut the ball off, you gotta, you gotta aidating. Yeah,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: so they just finished up some one on one um
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: ball control and then they were doing some you know angles,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: you know, getting ready to make a good tackle or
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: avoid the tackle. Now they're back into special teams and kickoff. Yeah,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: and to the first kickoff. Took the first kickoff. But
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: I'm also making note of some of the guys on
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: the kickoff team. And you have guys like Time Montgomery,
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: you know, and yesterday they had him out there catching them.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: So if you have, you know, a guy who's maybe
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: a secondary piece on offense, you gotta fill some roles
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: on special teams. So Time Montgomery is certainly covering kickoffs
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: and something to keep an eye on. Romandre throwing some
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: grass in the air. Looks like me. That's why they
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: got the flags up top. It looks like me on
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: the third hole. You're all fine, I might I m
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: at the club up here, Stevenson deep here for this kickoff.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: It's funny. It just seems like kickoff or turners such
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: an afterthought now and it's finding that guy like you
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: kind of said, Paul, like the guy who maybe doesn't
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: quite have a special team's role that can just go
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: back there and watch the ball sail over his head.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Tristan Vecano is that his name? Yeah? I think? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: tough with the Chargers last year, missed a bunch of
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: extra points, got got a sent up packing from there.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: So they pretty much always have two kickers in camp, right,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I mean, do you guys ever remember them having a
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: time where it was just just Goskowski or Vinitari. Yeah,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: I think there were times where they were alone. But
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: I think since Nick Folk has been around, I think
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: a young leg the last. Yeah, probably a light lighten
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: the load a little bit. J J. Taylor, Deeppe, somebody
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: who win of its jersey might might be time to
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: swap that one out. Do they have a jersey swap program?
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: They should have a thing where you could just take
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: your shirt in and'll swap the nameplate for you, you know,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: for like five bucks. Yea. Again, there's no hitting in
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: this practice, so you're not seeing anyone to the ground now,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: came accord, very very full of energy. Is anyone on
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: the ground. It's a mistake. Yeah, he's given, he was given.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: I guess that is not Marcus Jones. That's probably Harvey
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Loggy since he's got the soft Q tip on Troy
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Brown deep with the returners. Kind of coaching, that facet
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: of this that is part of his job description. Yeah,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: along with flag football coach. Took me down this year.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: But that's all right. Dominant over Stevenson back at the
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: deep role. That seems like the sun's peeking out a
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: little bit out too. Yea, So we've had what Stevenson, Taylor,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: anyone else hand these? Yeah? Thank you. Did you see
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: Montgomery take one yet today? Paul, No, Montgomery's on the
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: kickoff team. He's covering the coverings. Now they get the
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: jugs Machine doing the kicking. It throws a nice ball
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: that that Jugs Machine does it. Yeah, it's the perfect
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: spiral up into the sky. Consistent, consistent, that's what it's
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: all about. Jugs Machine doesn't take a day off ever. Wow,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: we've hit the jugs Machine portion of training camp midway
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: through day two. You do special teams in your own time,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: you know what. I totally concur especially after Bill told
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: me that it's useless. You know what, I noticed, and
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: maybe they just don't have them out here anymore. Remember
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: they had the plastic wolves or kyote. Yeah yeah, to
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: keep the birds away. They got those at the lake
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: near our house now, and I swear to God, every
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: time we go to the lake, it gets me for
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: a second time. Somebody's got their dog on the way.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Every single time. I think it's a real dog for
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: a split second. I don't know how much good they do.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: Is it scared? What scared birds away? Yeah? Well we
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: have a real dog boys out there, yeah, Boyd's Eye
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: and those fake dogs like hell, let's get to some
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: of the emails now that you know during special teams.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: Um Tim writes in from South Carolina. Have a scenario.
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: I wanted you guys to see what you think. I
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: think it's quite unlikely, but still possible. Let's say Mac
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: in the offense struggle big times this season, Mac takes
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: a big sophomore slump and the team ends up with
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: a top ten draft pick. Would Bill be taking a
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: look at guys like Bryce Young, Stroud, Rattler, et cetera.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Or do you think he keeps rolling with Mac hoping
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: he turns it around hopefully in year three? I think
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: you'd have to take a look if he if he
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: was terrible in year two and you have the quarterback
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: class that it's rumored to be. I mean that according
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: to the experts it's supposed to be a really strong quarterback.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: You have to look at that if you're in position
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: to take one. Now, you don't jam it in at
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: like twenty eight and just so I need a quarterback,
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: I'm not sold on, but if you could get But
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: if I'm in the top ten and my guy he's
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: coming off a terrible year or two, yeah, I got
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: to think about it at least I definitely think about it.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: But I also think that at this point, with how
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: many years Bill may or may not have left, it
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: might be. And what I think Mac is, which is
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: a good fit for what they do. I think he
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: does what they ask I would not saying what I
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: would do, but I think what they would do is
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I think they probably stick with Mac unless it was dreadful.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: I mean, if it was dreadful, That's what I'm saying.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Like that, and that's that's the scenari Now, all logic
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: would tell you there's there's no way they're not gonna
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: be looking at that. This is. You know, Bill's committed,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: this is, this is. But if it's like Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: But if you're sitting like at eight nine ten in
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: that area, you know, but if but if you have
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: the guy, then you say, wow, that guy's really good.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: But I have my guy, yeah, and I'm gonna go on.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: He'd have to really fall off a cliff. Yeah, you know,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: you'd have to see the last five games for seventeen
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: games right, and then and then you're like, this guy
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: can't do it right, and it's like maybe then you're
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: looking at a Jamar Chase type situation where hey, we
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: got the quarterback last year, let's get them one of
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: these top ten wide receiver types that'll help. Maybe that'll
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: help them bounce back, or you know, Jake and Ben diggo.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: It was Australia Rights in Happy Day two. Been listening
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: all off season, but as soon as everyone said Happy
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: New Year, it made the old arm hairs stand up.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Can't say the soap had the same effect all off season.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Two things for you all. One camp day snacks. What's
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: everyone snacking on right now? Nothing? Beauty? Now the beauty?
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: All right? So I'm gonna play Devil's I thought that
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: Parker terrific catch on the sideline, different spun, spun his body,
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: different Parker difference maker. I said, Oh, I'm gonna I'm
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: just gonna be fair because I feel like the whole
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: number one thing that's nikkil Harry. I haven't seen him
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: open yet and that concerns me. Without pads, if you're
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: not getting open, I'm concerned. But that was an unbelievable
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: catch he just made, spinning his body, toe tapping on
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: the sideline with with Jalen Mills in his back pocket.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: But that was a really, really tough catch, and he
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: made it look easy. I think Mac put it to
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: her kind of only he could get drafts. Snap. That's
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: not what we're looking for. Uh. The second question from
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: Jake is I know it's only two hurt his hand?
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: What's that Mac? Look back? He was shaking. Yeah, he
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: looks like he's shaking his hand a little bit. Yeah,
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: that that snap, I think he probably had his hands.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Are you sure it's no, it's not like I was watching,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: and you know Bill's talking to him now, but he's
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: still shaking out that that left hand. I think that
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: caught him as someone who's done that before. It hurts.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: I hurt my hand when you don't have your hands
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: on what the like? Maybe he had it like this
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: and the ball came up Worth pointing out too, the
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: guy snappings Will Sherman, who he's been the two center
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: by the way, which I made a note of earlier today.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: Um and my my little notes. Um. The second question
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: from Jake is he knows it's day two, but who
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: early prediction on make making the Pro Bowl? I mean
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: the way he's going right out DeVante already, so it
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: might be him. He's really like bringing the energy to
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: everyone here in the stands too yesterday. Oh it's fun.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: I love that stuff. Just perk him right up. So
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: just watching Mac, it was his left hand that he
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: you know, so he looks fine. Yeah yeah, yeah, he
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: was just shaking it out. I'm not nothing to be
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: concerned about. But that's probabumbled that snap. You tell me
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: he's got a hangnail, and I'm getting concerned. I mean
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: we got to keep him up. Yeah, so this is uh,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: you know, just if everybody this is from the five
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: yard line. Bailey's Appy's now in it at quarterback. Oh
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: another is your boy Trey Nixon? Yeah, Zappy with a
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: nice pass. Yeah, a little late in the down. I
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know how quick he got through everything.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: And I wonder if he missed Thornton, who I thought
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: was wide open sort of under the goal post, coming
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: across the back line. Yeah. So in this portion of
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: the practice, it looks like it might be Joe Judge
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: in the huddle, maybe calling plays, although right now he's
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: conferring with Matt Patricia. Neither one of them's gonna say.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: Bill's clearly calling whatever they're doing. Right Yeah, Zappy was
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: just with Bill. That's just gonna say. Neither one of
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: them have mics right now or Wwaukee talkies. The entry
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: continues the Waukee twalkie. So Zappy's still in there. Yeah,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: ZAPPI with more reps today than he got yesterday. I
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: would say. Yeah. Also to the outside, the cornerbacks are
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: all wearing those those gloves too, to prevent them from
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: from grabbing as well. At what point do we make
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: the proclamation that Zappy has leap frogged over hoy or
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: as the the backup? You won't now, I like, okay,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: I don't know. I just feel like lawyers that like,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: we know he's got it. We'll give him some reps
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: here and there, but try to like give you know,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: we gotta give the kid, get the kid ready to play.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: And I think Plawyer's probably understanding of that that he's
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: not going to get guaranteed. All the two reps zappy again,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: surveying into traffic and incomplete. That one got tipped up
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: the line by the wrecket. They're holding those paddles up.
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: I think they're Prince rackets. Prince still around, old Prince
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: rackets with the big heads one ten right, that's the
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: big boy. Yeah. A little quick tempo here for Mac, Oh,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler, a little bit, uh, a little extra little
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: contact back to Stevenson out of the backfield. Oh Mac,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: with a high five to Bill. Bill didn't really seem
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: too enthused about that necessarily high five, but I think
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: Mac went back over said, no, I'm trying to give
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: your high five. That's probably the guy that can fool
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: around with Bill. And even though Bill doesn't like it,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: isn't know what to do because Max's a likable Well
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: am I gonna do? I wonder that too, though. Do
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: you think that Mac is still terrified at Belichick? I probably,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I think he probably is oh yeah, but like sometimes
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: he just can't help it, you know, he just has
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: that golden yeah right right right, what are you gonna do? Yeah,
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: Mac back to pass? Oh yeah, not good, not good.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: I mean he completed it in the end zone, but
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: that would have been a broken play. Yeah, no credit
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: for that one Aggalore over the sliding but again Mac
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: one for one touchdown to Aggalore and the status right.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: I actually I actually read something and I don't remember
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: where or otherwise I would call him out for it,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: you know, you know, I would saying how effective he was.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: You know, um, I forget the term. He meant off platform,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: but but uh, but he meant you know, sort of
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: like he think he used to term off script. And
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: I'm like, does that mean like he audible that the
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: line like or is it just like the ball didn't
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: come you know when the play broke down in seven
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: on seven he was able to scramble away from the
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: non offensive don't know, defensive And by the way, like
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: just having completed a seven on seven tournament at the
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: high school level over the last weekend, do you know
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: what they do with like they have referees and stuff,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: they have four seconds. That's a hard hit. They have
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: four seconds to throw the ball. Mac Wilson laying a
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: little lick on Yeah, Jacobe there. I mean, you know,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: he didn't lay his shoulder, but he kind of rolled
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: over him and both both players went to the ground.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: I'm sure that's not what we're looking for here. Yeah.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: I think Myers kind of stopped abruptly. Yeah, kind of
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: table times. Wilson was coming. I've never heard that before.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: Oh you never did that to your friends. You like,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: go up behind one of your friends. That's unsuspectful. Oh
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: you push him? Oh well I have done that. I
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: just never knew it was called tabletop. Tabletop was our
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: pizza place at night. I was I was very respectful
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: of my friends. I didn't need any your teammates like
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: we did. You never got pantsed. Mac took that one
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: under center and that was incomplete. That was well covered.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: My bled so right with him a position too. That
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: was similar to the throw on the opposite side that
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: Smith was able to make the catch over Bled, So
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: it was similar kind of coverage. That was a good throw,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: was sure, and that was the difference. Mack didn't give
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: him any chance there. The throw was down low. Okay,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: I'm sure it went down as a completion in the stats.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: We'll give him that one. Zappy's back back there now,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: Happy was Zappy Ted Johnson saying hello, Hey, Ted, But
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: I'm like Zoe, he didn't have to disrupt the whole
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: show to do it. Oh, just still my lifting anymore? Ted.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: He looks better now than when he played Guy's a machine.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: I mean I could still picture that guy coming out
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: of college as the middle linebacker of like just the
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: proto Like I was just like, oh, this is the
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: perfect guy on some of the biggest impacts. I've seen
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: him and Sam Gash in practice. That's probably the best
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: illustration of how much it's changed since Fred and I
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: started doing now. I mean they would lie I was practice, yeah,
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: and Gash would come out of the backfield, and it
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: was like those two mountain goats just, you know, rams,
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: just banging each other. He was your boy Bledsoe showing
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: up today. And by the way, I know he I like,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: he's making things interesting. He looks real comfortable out there.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: Well you wrote you wrote about him, Paul, right, you
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: need people, he's earning, he's learning himself a paragraph. Oh
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: all right, So that's uh that's it for this hip
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: of practice. So now the team's just splitting up. Uh
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: let's see. Looks like, uh, yeah, we're going on here.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Defense is going over to the field closest to us,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: offense is staying on the far field. The lineman offensive
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: linemen are now coming from what we used to call
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: Dante's inferno. Yeah, you're gonna get ready to do some
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: full team work. Yeah, shortly after all that seven on
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: seven stuff. You know, it's fun like when Teddy came over.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: You know, I got a chance to do a couple
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: of shows with him during the offseason, and you can
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: just tell how much he sort of misses that, like
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: his role is kind of going by the wayside. You know,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: that traditional inside off the ball linebacker who's taken on
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: guards and plugging gaps and and stopping the run. And
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: there's not as much of those two hundred and fifty
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: plus pound linebackers anymore. And you could tell it's sort
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: of not not like not that he's like a cranky
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: X player, right, but you can tell that that that
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: that misses that that physicality, He misses that element. It's
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: like you and me taking Paul, I'm back in our
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: day you know, we used to play pickle and in
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: the backyard every day one could the ball off on
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: consecutive places like I could. I mean that The joke
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: I make with with Paul is like, you know, watching
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: some of the kids in my town play baseball, and
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: you know, we just played so much in the neighborhood
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: growing up that you knew like what a pop fly
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: like to catch it? Like you know, kids like still
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: pop fly and they all like, oh, it's happenings happen.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: Everyone just kind of stands there and stairs. But now different,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: different these days. Let's go to some of the phone calls.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Jeff is a scranted Hey Jeff, Hey, guys, are you good? Hey?
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: I got a two part question here is what side
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: of the ball do you think is most improved this
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: year compared to last year? And what's more likely having
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: a top ten offense or a top ten defense by
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: the end of the year. Both answers offense, Yeah, I don't.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: I mean, it's hard to tell right now the practice
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: and everything, but the offenses has looked pretty good. I
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: haven't really been wowed by anything the defense has done,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: but it's hard for them to wow right now unless
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: every ball is incomplete. The offense. The only thing they
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: lost on offense was offensive lineman. So the offense will
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: you know, will be at worst the same defense. They
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: lost significant pieces right now. If there's you know, if
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: guys we don't know about are better than we know,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: then that could change. But right now, on paper, the
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: offense is better, Thanks Jeff. I just mean from last year.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: I don't know which which union is going to be
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: better this year, but like from last year, the offense
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: should be better because they hadn't really they mean, they
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: lost Jack Mason and Ted Harris right on the offensive line.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: I think that all the skill guys, the quarterbacks of
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: a year, I mean they should they should be better
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: than they were a last year on offense. Let's go
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: to Steve in New York. What's up, Steve? Ah? Yes,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: how's everyone doing this morning? Good? I had just actually
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: two questions. One is, and I hate rehashing this, but
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: any reason to why Nick Kayley or try Brown weren't
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: considered or you guys to hear anything as to for
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: like oc position or Troy Brown, Well, Try Brown doesn't
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: have the experience, you know, so you know, I don't know,
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: like who was considered who wasn't um But you know, yeah,
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: I don't have an answer for you. I think it's unconventional.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I think it's it's odd, but I mean they decided
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: to go with guys that they felt like had more
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: experience as coaches as opposed to guys that with more
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: experience on and again, I was vindicated when Matt Jones
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: said yesterday, how you know he's impressed by having two
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: guys who had seen it from a head coach perspective,
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: and you know that like he really sees you know,
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: I gave you the Gatscha thing, that one, that one
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: I'm I'm i gotta I gotta cry. Follow on that,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: Max said, yeah, he said it not right right off
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: the Q card. He read it exactly the way it
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: was written. I think he I think he sees the
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: value of having guys who have seen it from both sides.
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: I think he's a panic sandwich, young in his career
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: with no direction. Stop. That's all saying that, that's what
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: I think is going to happen. No, I was listening
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: to your show yesterday, Paul, or it might have been
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: the day before, and you know, Tony's like it's a
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: pig gaff in that room. How does he know that?
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: How did it really? How does he know that? You know? Like,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: I think it's a little early to be to be
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: saying that, to be jumping to that conclusion. I mean, really,
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: it's just m fair. It's unfair. Williams and Phil. I'm
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: gonna waste of time. They had winning six super Bowls
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: with you know, a traditional call and throughout that you
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: always said there's more than one way to do it. What. Yeah,
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: You've always said that you could do I I always
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: said you don't have to have an offensive coordinator in
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: a play caller everything. I've never said that, William. What's up? William?
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: Another person who you don't? I think you just don't
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: know how to do it. No, he's I've got it done.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: I'm doing get Hardy in here to do it right.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: I'm doing it right. All right, William, you can call back.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: Let's get over to the emails because those are coming
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: in fast and furiously. Let's see. Bill writes in from Vista, California.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: Are you guys planning on going to the regular season
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: Vegas game? Is so? Any idea where to meet? The
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: meet up will be being that it's Vegas, I feel
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: like the options are endless. Freddy, You'll be there, right,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: I'll be there, and that everyone will be there. I'm
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: sure sure Barrancon will have something cooked up for Vegas. Yeah,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: he's the best. That'll be a big one. You'll get
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: it fired up. Yeah, you fired up. I mean, if
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: you're if you're gonna plan a road trip this year,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: that's the place, right. I mean, I think it's good.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: You can maybe get in Friday, you get after a Friday, Saturday,
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: maybe your shutter down literally Saturday afternoon, so you rest
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: up and then you know, Sunday go catch the game.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: But I've never spent more than like two two and
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: a half days in Vegas. It catches up with it,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: it does, it does. Yeah, you know two days. Oh
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: this Kane, you're trying to take out some of our
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: staff down there with his booming field goal kick. Let's see.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: Marcus writes in he's from Waco, Texas, and he's curious
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: to see what you guys think of Taekwon Thornton. On
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: first impression. I watched him play here at Baylor for
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: multiple years. Very talented wide receiver. Any thoughts on how
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: Belichick will use him? Speed just I mean hope uses speed.
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: I mean you can see it. Love to see him
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: get in the open and really kind of open it
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: up to see it. But I'm just even doing the drills,
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: he can tell he's got light feet and he moves,
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: he moves well, but it's you know, he's in a
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: stack position group. I think his reps are going to
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: be come at, you know, a limited quantity, and he's
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: he's got to make the most of them. And you know,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: like we saw Bill stepping Aside coaching him up yesterday,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: he's got to take all those lessons and apply them
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: and you know, not make those mistakes over and over again.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: And if he can do that, then I mean I
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: have a little bit more confidence just seeing how much
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: in the mix he is um that you know that
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: he might be part of the plan this year. Tim
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: from Duncan reminds us or at least to the best
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: of his recollection, He says, the last time I saw
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: a real scrimmage at season ticket holder practice, Ted Johnson
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: tours peck Muscle and was out for the year. And
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: that wasn't a real scrimmage. Yeah, I would that was
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: my first year. Even even that was was sort of
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: half speed and no tackling. Yeah, but it was a
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: It was a scrimmage set up, which is kind of
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: what they do now, only they don't even have pads. Now,
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: they may have had pad that day, Yeah, but I
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: don't think they did any real hitting. A friend from Hollywood, California.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Can the Patriots compete with such teams as the Rams
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: when they are trying to save money by not giving
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: offensive coordinator titles? J? C. Jackson and Shack Mason are
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: ranked high in their position, but they are no longer
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: on the roster since the Patriots deemed them to be
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: too expensive. Do you foresee Robert Craft selling the team
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: since he's not willing to give huge, guaranteed contracts to
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: quality players. Boy, if no problem given guaranteed money to
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: Devin got has a troll email. If I ever email,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: you shouldn't even bother playing the season, right, Let's just
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: give it up? Yea. So now the teams are coming
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: together on one field offense and defense, and we'd probably
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: see a little eleven on eleven here, Paul. Yeah, they
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: just set it up a little bit there with I
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: think some walk through type plays and they had, you know,
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: and to Mike's point about Tae Kwon Thornton. I do
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: think it's worth mentioning that with Mac and the regulars
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: on the right field, of the right side field, you know,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: from our vantage point, Tho Witton is with that group,
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: you know, and you didn't get very many plays, but
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: he's over here on this side while Parker Agalore, Born Myers,
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: those guys were all running over here. And on the
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: other side it's Trey Nixon with Bailey Zappy, Trey Nixon
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: and Christian Wilkerson and those guys. So I do think
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: that that. I mean, obviously though Witton is a locker,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: he's a stone called roster lock. You don't cut rookie
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: second round picks. He's not going to go to the
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: practice squad. He's not going to get cut. Now, how
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: much of a role he ends up, you know, creating
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: for himself, that remains to be seen. But you know,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: it is interesting to see him over here with the
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: you know, the so called front starters on offense. So
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: let's say we're going with some eleven on eleven here.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Let's be kind of interesting. Let's say the Patriots kind
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: of one of their base run defenses. So you know,
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: if there's a lot of wide zone stuff right now,
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: that this might be where it would pop up some
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: of the running games again that you're looking for ninety four.
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: Henry Anderson is out here right, you know, it's one
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: of those guys on the end now, not necessarily opposite
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: Jude On. I think on that play he'd lined up
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: on the same side in front of him, if I'm
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: not mistaken, first played a Hunter Henry over the middle
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: for about a six yard game. Yeah, So, I mean
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: to me, you know what I'm kind of way reading,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: way too much into things, is that you know, OUJA
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: continue to probably be more of a passing down guy,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: not not an every down guy at least you know
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: here we are two days into practice, but Anderson could
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: definitely be an early down kind of edge setting option.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: It seems like, what did you guys take from some
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: of the comments about Ja yesterday. It seems like a
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: lot of us and heard the same stuff last year. Like,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: I get it, he's a really athletic guy, and he
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: works hard and he says all the right things. But
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: you know, he's played three years or two years. I mean,
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: you know, you've seen a handful of little plays here
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: and there that that may tell he seems athletic, but
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: you know, you just you don't have the consistency yet.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: And you know, last year they're saying, oh, he and
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: play any position on the field. That's great, Like you
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: just I just need him to play sixty percent of
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: the snaps. I need him to be disruptive, need him
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: to get You know, what we heard about him when
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: he came out was that, you know, had a unique
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: ability to kind of bend the edge as a pass rusher.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: So you know, they can continue to pump him up
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: and we can continue to feel like, oh that there,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: there's potential there, and there certainly you know is with
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: some of his athleticism, but it just you know, it
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: has to it has to produce on the field, and
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: it has to be consistent, and you know that's been
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: what's missing. And it's hard to come out of training
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: camp and feel like, oh, I feel great about it,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: Like he's got to do it in games like that's
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: where it's gotta I gotta show up. I mean last year,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: I think early on he was productive, but you know,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: it just wasn't consistent. Little drop back flip to Stevenson
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: otherwise known as a screen Yeah, is that what they
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: call those? Was that a screen? I want to see
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: if I can make Fred punch me before before the
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: end of the podcast the camera. I mean it was
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: a what do they call it bubble screen? Because that
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: was just a little screen. I mean like they let
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: the sort of let those the defensive line in, you
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: dump it over him and you get the offensive linemen
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: are out in front. I mean they run a variety
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: of screen looks. Yeah, and I think Stevenson could be
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: a guy that could be very effective with that. I
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: think he did that in very small spurts last year
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: and made some plays. Yeah. I saw some video against Carolina. Yeah,
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: I saw us a video of him catching the ball yesterday,
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: you know, after practice. Not something I watched live, but
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: looks like a natural he does. He does, he catches
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: the ball. Well, obviously Harris isn't out here. Yeah, but
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: here comes to Thornton rep. Wait, wait, Damian Harris. He's
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: he's not playing, I mean he's not Damian Harris. Yeah,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: thirty seven. Yes, I haven't heard it. I haven't seen
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: him once. Yeah, he's been out here. Have you seen
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: him take a play? Yeah? Really, they've thrown screens to him.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: I haven't. I haven't seen one. Yeah, I don't know
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: where he is right this second. Maybe he's off somewhere else.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: But he has been involved in this practice. Okay, I
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: haven't seen him. I'm I'm not telling you exactly where
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: he is right now. I see it. Maybe maybe something
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: happened to him and he's not doing anything now, but
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: he's been involved in this practice. I see him on
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: the sideline, but I haven't seen him run a play.
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: So now with this second group offensive line, does your
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: boy Russy is at center? So maybe after Will Sherman
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: broke Mac Jones's finger, no longer one him in there.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: That's snap, that's snap. How do you break somebody's finger
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: with a shotgun? Snap? The snap that he fumbled was
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: not a shot that was throwaway from Zappy. He wasn't happy, No,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: zappy not happy. Take a lappy to get zappy with
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: that one. Yea? All right, all right, all right? Ten
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: forty eight. So we've been going for a good, uh
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: good hour and a half. What did they say what
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: they expected today? A little longer than yesterday? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: ramping it up, ramping it up? Yeah? How long did
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: they go yesterday? About ninety minutes. Yeah, I think we'd
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: done at eleven yesterday, right, yeah, yeah, so they'll go
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: a little longer problem today. Does that be? Oh Jesus,
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: there's a lot of contacting. Hell on, ye, Jewan Williams
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: almost took his life. Who gonna you talk about an
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: impossible task though? They have no pads on and they
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: put those sort of sparring gloves on the defensive backs. Yep,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: Like what do you want me to do? I can't
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: touch him, so that when you do make a play,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: it's even better. Yeah, yeah, more you make an interception
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: with those things you were cooking with gas. That's a
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: it's a miss Carney quote right there. Oh yeah, my
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: ap English teacher in high school, cooking with gas now
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: cook with cooking with gas now kids. Wow. So that
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: was interesting. So you had Mac rolled, you know, to
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: his right, you had JJ Taylor coming out of the back,
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: and he chose not to go to Taylor. He wanted
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: to go downfield, but there was nothing there and Mac
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: ended up probably running for no game. So that was
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: another one of those off platform plays. Yeah, not the
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: way it was drawing up there. See you get do
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: you get an over? You get an over? Oh? On
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: that one or an over one. If you're doing it right,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: it's a sack. But I don't know what they'll be doing.
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: I'm sure you completed it the way Taylor came out.
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: He was definitely looking for the ball, so I don't
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: know what was going on there. Yeah, So we continue
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: to see Terrence Mitchell, by the way, with Jalen Mills. Yeah.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: So the first couple of days anyway, the veteran Mitchell
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: looks like he has a leg up over Butler. Ye
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: in that race. Yeah, with Jack Jones kind of a
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: Jack Jones comes in with the second group um generally,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: and Marcus Jones is getting a lot of reps too
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: in the slide ye. All right, So that that's the
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: end of that session. Have you seen anything from Sean
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: Wade Mike, Not really. I mean he has been out
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: there in the slot a little bit. I mean it
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: seems like he's probably the top slot guy with with
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones and Miles Bryant out but but nothing that's
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: really stood out to me of of good or bad. Yeah,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: that's a good. Oh, it's got a little field goal
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: work here, Fred, So maybe it's going to be similar
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: to yesterday. Oh, Tristan Viskno emailer writes in what do
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: you think about Dabrill Peppers and how much of an
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: impact he'll have? That's a good question. When's he going
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: to be healthy? And how does you know Josh Bledsoe
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: getting off to a good start, How does that impact things?
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: I mean, you've got I mean, you could possibly have
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: five safeties that you know all have looked, you know,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: pretty good and been in the mix. It's a it's
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: a great question. I'm not sure exactly, but I think
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: the first thing to happen is getting Peppers back out
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: on the field. We don't know he's on the PP list,
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: so we don't know when that's going to happen just yet.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: Charles writes in lifelong fan from Montreal Love the Show,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: was wondering if the whole mystery behind Patricia and Judge
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: had anything to do with clauses in their contracts with
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: their former employees. If the Patriots would have them in
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: higher echelon rolls, would they have to pay their remaining balance.
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: That's a good question. They'd have to pay them period. Yeah,
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's a valid question, it really, it
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: is a valid question. I don't know the answer to it,
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: but it's a valid question. Yeah, I'm not sure if
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: this Kanya hit that one or or missed it. Barton Poland,
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: Am I the only one that's seeing a lot of
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: Jimmy g and Max stance and release this year? The
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: stance is almost identical and the release seems to be
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: much compact, much more compact and faster. You're watching it
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: closer than me, I guess, yeah, I don't see much
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: difference in I would away Mac is throwing. I would
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: ask if that's a good thing. Jimmy looks like the
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: forty nine ers are gonna yeah. Yeah, so they've announced
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: that they're definitely gonna be going with Trey Lance. Yea,
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: So Jimmy's either gonna get traded or released by the
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: start of camp, by the start of the season. Who
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: would your to have Jimmy Garoppolo or Baker Mayfield Garoppolo? Yeah,
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: me too. I don't know. I'd have to sit down
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: with with Baker and look him in the eye and
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: you see where his head shake his hands, get a
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: sense of his comportment. Yeah, I think we see his
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: comportment pretty much. He's it's kind of Paul like where
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: he kind of wishes emotions on his sleeve. I think
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: you have a lot of you know, yeah, a lot
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: of mysterious to what's going on in his mind at
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: most times. What about I don't know. I'm trying to
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: wrap my brain thinking about where he could possibly and
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: adapt teams that still, I mean, Washington doesn't seem like all.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: I think Seattle would make the most sense. I mean,
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: and they have literally no option. They've got Geno Smith
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: and Drew Locke. Yeah, like, I can't believe Geno Smith
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: Roppolo is not better than those two guys. Yeah, he'd
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: be perfect there. And then I was sort of wondering.
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: I think this is one of those where the betting
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: odds are impacted and you wonder if it has something
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: to do with the market. But the giants I hear
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: a lot, Oh yeah, with Daniel Jones in the last year,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Jimmy in New York. Well with table a guy that
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: you know, they might have some similarities to what Garoppolo
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: was able to do. Now, that one looked like you
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: missed it. But they always haigh five of them, so
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: you can never know for sure. You can't tell, all right,
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: looks like they're probably gonna do some Red Zone. We're
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: gonna get some We're gonna get a little uh no music.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: I'd like to hear some some music. Kick in music
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: talked No, it's good that they haven't done to h
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: any in Cleveland. Right. He's from Burlington, Vermont, from and
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: then from Boston, from Santa Rosa, California, from Amhurst, then Burlington,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: So he's been all around. I've been. We know who
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: the oc is. Mac Jones. He caught Cam the He
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: taught Cam the offense last year, he taught Bill O'Brien
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: the Bama offense, and now he's teaching the po aition coaches.
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: When you see Judge of Patricia talking to him, they're
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: asking him questions, not teaching him. Kidding, of course. I
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: don't think you're that far off, Yeah, King of course.
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: But Matisa, Matt, can we please get the drop of
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: Peter Griffin? Oh my god, who the hell cares? Every
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: time this comes up? Nothing against pu I know you
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: guys have to respond to the conversation out there in
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: the media, and I feel like you don't dwell on it.
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: But this week ESPN was stretching some real mileage out
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: of this non story. Is Belichick abusing his power. That's
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: the real headline they were running. I just don't know
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: why anybody, you know, in all seriousness, I just don't
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: know why anybody would look from Afar and see a
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: situation where a team doesn't have a named offensive coordinator
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: and there's confusionist of how the operations going to work
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: and not think that that's a story. I just I mean,
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: you can say I think it'll work out if you
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: if you're optimistic, and I have no problem with me
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: an optimistic, honestly I don't. But I don't know how
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: you can say that that's not that's a non story.
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: And you have to remember with these shows, their mentality is,
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: you know, we haven't talked about it yet, so you know,
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: this is the first time anyone's heard about it, you know,
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: like they don't listen to all the other shows and go, oh,
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: that other show on Fox talked about it, so we can.
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: And I'll tell you what else I listened to a
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: lot is players. When players talk about these things, and
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: they you know, when Jason mccordy is talking about I'm
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: not really sure how this is gonna work, there's confusion, like, hey,
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: his brother is still on the team. So that concerns me.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: And if that's sort of a mentality that's coming from
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: But if that's what players think, like Damian Woody was
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: talking about it like that, like holds weight with me
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: like that, that that's important to me. If the players
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: from Afar are kind of confused as to how something
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: like that might work, then I think it's it's a story.
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: You got mac uh shotgun. There's that quarter, but it's yeah,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: it down last yesterday, but not today. He didn't get
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: any feed in. Yeah, he caught the ball, but he
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: didn't get it. He wasn't in bounce. Three unproductive reps
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: there for the offensive. I think the ball needed to
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: come out sooner because you know, I don't even think
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: he was open. I felt like he threw it soon,
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: but it was like he was never gonna get you.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: By the time the ball got there, the lord was
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: already one step out of bound so hard. So one
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: was the Parker, one was the agglorder due what was
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: the other one? I forget? Oh good, that is the
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: one he tucked down. He didn't he didn't throw it.
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: Oh okay, Well, I just want to say something. Though
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: I say it, I hear what people are saying, and
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: I hear the points about wondering how the operation is
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: going to run. But I also saw a clip last
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: night of from Man in the Arena a Brady talking
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: about meeting with Belichick every Tuesday and Belichick teaching him
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: to see the game the way that he sees the game.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: And so I do think that there is an incredible
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: amount of value for Mac Jones and getting tutored by
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: Bill Belichick, and by all accounts, he's been intimately involved
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: with the offense. So yes, I can wonder how the
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: plays are gonna get called and what that's gonna be.
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: But I can also feel like I'm pretty glad that
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: Mac Jones is getting tutored by Bill Belichick and getting
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: the same education that Tom Brady got. But that happened
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: last year. Yeah, now who's calling the place for the
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: second year? Though, I mean we're continuing to build that, Like,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: do you think like he sits with Bill for one year.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: I don't worry about Bill. I don't worry about Bill Belichick.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: Bill Belichick can coach. I don't worry about his credentials.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: I worry about the defensive guys that have never coached
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: offen that's fine, and I'm not worry you. I'm with
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: you on that. But I just don't think that Mac
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Jones is being completely We'll set out to dry and oh,
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: he's all. I'm gonna tell you right now, that's gonna
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: be the story if if it doesn't go well, it's
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: not gonna be Mac Jones's fault. I'll guarantee you that, right,
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: everybody will blame it on right, You're right, ye, but
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: you know again, it'll be in context. You have to
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: see the game. If Mac is just not playing well,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: they'll you know, there'll be no choice but to you know,
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: pin blame on him. But if we see delay of games,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: if we see well, that's what we see. I mean.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: And I again, like just like right now, like this
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: is fascinating to me, like that. I did not expect
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: to see Bill Belichick given the plays to the quarterback,
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: like I thought he would still stay above that fray.
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: But he's right in the mix with it too. So
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: here's what I would say. Okay, so you say like
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: it depends on how it looks, so Deuce, I totally
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: agree with your assessment. They came out here, you know,
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: sort of this late practice red zone full team and
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: Mac came out and at three, as you said, unproductive plays.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: So was it because of Mac Jones or was it
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: because they had three bad play calls? Is this is
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: this whole thing designed to help the defense because the
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: defense is really, I think, controlling this whole I think
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: the defense has been much better, to say than it
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: was yesterday in general. Yeah, but I also think that
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: there could be you know, sort of a rhythm to that,
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: you know, a meaning to that, you know that we
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: don't know right from afar, Like, I just think that
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: the knee jerk reaction will be immediate. Well, what do
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: you expect. They don't have any direction on offense, And
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: that's not fair, but it might not be wrong, That's
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But it can be whatever you want
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: it to be exactly. So it was yesterday good because
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: they had direction that off I mean, you know, it
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: just doesn't make any sense. I thought they were very
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: up and down yesterday. Today they were getting dominant. I
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: thought yesterday the offense looked pretty good, you know early. Yeah,
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: and as as Boyne said, we went dry for a while.
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: So you're getting a little bit of what we talked
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: about earlier with Mac. It feels like a little bit
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: like let's go so here, we'll see another another few
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: set of wraps. Belichick giving them the giving them the
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: playfall here. Yeah, it's definitely Belichick. And my guess is
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: these plays are going to be more successful than the
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: first set. I'm gonna I'm gonna guess that, right Belichick.
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: I Belichick was excited. Belichick has been doing the places time. Okay,
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: but I'm gonna guess this. This is kind of a
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: script to it. Okay, all right, No, I mean you
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: could be rightful. There's a lot of things going on
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: down there in terms of alcohol. Plays are called that.
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: We have no idea. Now, that's a good play by
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: the defense. Got his hand in there and broke up
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: past of Aggalore I think had the last breakup too,
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: bled sofen and yeah, and look at look at Devin mccordy.
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: He's playing the role of the receivers yesterday. He's flexing
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: to the crowd, he's trying to get some reaction. Yeah,
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: and he's sticking Damian. Damian Harris is giving him. I'm
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: not yet, I'm not trying to hear that. Yeah, it's good.
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: I mean, you want to see that competition. You definitely
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: want to see them going out of each other. Well,
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: you can feel you feel the energy, I mean, not
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: the energy, the competitive kind of juice. Right now, it
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: feels like it's kind of building up a little bit. Yeah,
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: I like it. I like it. Max still at quarterback
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: shotgun strips. Right, there's that no see sideline I mean
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: not sideline, fake corner, not even competitive hunter Henry got
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: held up and the ball just bounced out of bounce.
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: That's another good point. And I know you didn't mean
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: it like literally, but there's way more like on the
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: on the line sort of jostling today, Like even on
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: Mills break up on the quick slant to Agalore, he
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: might have had like the back the back shirt a
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: little bit which gave him some leverage. Um, so there
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: is a little bit more physicality I think. Um yeah,
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: you know with the defensive backs today, well John John
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: back and forth trying Trent Brown just uh over to
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: the sideline there, so you're on a lap or is
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: he just uh? I think he's on a lap. Yeah,
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: never mind, Yeah, nothing to see here. Then he must
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: have just jumped off side. There you go. That's a
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: nice Yeah, Trent's laps look like us walking, so you
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: can never really tell, but he's definitely on a lap
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, it might have moved. I think Mac
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: miss KB in the back of though he had him. Yeah,
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: I thought he was open on that one. Devin. Yeah,
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: it seems like defense feeling a little bit right now. Absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: You see a lot of talking for Devin too, and
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: that's him and Damian Harris are having some fun. Trent
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: Brown's lap continuing now and to the far and zones.
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean, you know, do you think like
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: the defense after yesterday comes out before practices, we're not
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: gonna let him do what they did yesterday to that,
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: you know, and so they just get a little bit
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: more physical, I just think, and mocking the offense from yesterday,
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: you know, like getting excited about the routine and now
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: they're sort of doing the same thing. There's a quick
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: throw and it catch Dter Henry. Yeah, that was h Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: you know, I've noticed those plays a couple of times.
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: We're just you know, the quick rollouts from Mac. But yeah,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: first successful and they're they're over celebrating right now a
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: little bit. It's really you know, yeah, I mean for
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: seeing now one for eight. It's the same as yesterday.
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: The last play was the only one that counted, so
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: the defense is Mike's not exaggerating. They were like one
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: for ten and the last one was completed. All the
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: defense of the sideline took push ups after that, and
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: just like as a point of comparison, it was a
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: very similar kind of play yesterday. It was a quick
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: squirt out of the backfield for Damian Harrison. Quick squirt, sorry, um,
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: And this one was a quick sprint out to Hunter Henry.
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: I mean, in this kind of a setting, almost impossible
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: to stop a play like that. So that looks it yep,
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: Um that you heard the horn. The players are heading
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: to the hills where they do sprints after practice, run
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: out that hill. Yeah right, So that'll be it, um,
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: and that'll be it for us. We want to thank
