- 0:02When you pray, it is important to remove your guilt that you
- 0:05have in everyday life. Approach God with confidence and
- 0:10not condemnation. Remove that guilt through
- 0:13prayer. We know that God will forgive us
- 0:16when we repent of our sins, so this admittance and repentance
- 0:21is what allows us to be washed of the sin as if we never
- 0:25committed that sin. So do not dwell and condemn, for
- 0:29that is the work of the demonic. Just repent and if needed
- 0:33request help from Jesus. Jesus, take this thought from
- 0:38me, for I cannot bear it. The thought can be anything
- 0:43leading to sin. Two scriptures from the book of
- 0:46Hebrews tells us why we should approach God with confidence.
- 0:49Here is the first. Therefore, let us draw near with
- 0:54confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive
- 0:58mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
- 1:02We are praying to someone who is on a throne.
- 1:05A throne indicates a king. This is not merely a king, but
- 1:08the King, the King of all kings, the Lord of all Lords, the
- 1:14supreme Ruler of the universe, the one who said all authority
- 1:19has been given to me in heaven and on earth.
- 1:23We are praying to someone who has both the authority and the
- 1:26power to do what we ask. Let's lift our eyes from
- 1:31ourselves and our own needs and problems and look up to that
- 1:35glorious throne. Then it is a throne of grace.
- 1:40Grace is one of the keywords in the New Testament.
- 1:43It always stands for something that goes beyond anything we can
- 1:47earn or achieve by our own efforts.
- 1:51Because it is a throne of grace, we are not limited to what we
- 1:54deserve or what we can achieve or what our own efforts can
- 1:59accomplish for US1 Awareness I have always had in my Christian
- 2:03life is that I stand in need of the mercy of God.
- 2:08This Scripture encourages me to believe that if I ever come for
- 2:11mercy, mercy is what I'll receive.
- 2:14The reason some people do not receive mercy is simply that
- 2:18they never see their need of it and come in faith to receive it.
- 2:22Secondly, therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to
- 2:26enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, let us draw near
- 2:32with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith.
- 2:38Confidence, full assurance, everything suggests boldness.
- 2:42Boldness based upon the fact that the blood of Jesus has been
- 2:45shed and has been sprinkled in the very presence of God.
- 2:50The blood is now speaking on our behalf even when we do not know
- 2:54how to pray. The positive side of coming to
- 2:57God boldly is to come with confidence.
- 3:00The other side is that we come without condemnation.
- 3:04Several passages of Scripture speak about the need to be free
- 3:08from condemnation. Here's one from the Psalms.
- 3:13If I regard wickedness in my heart, the Lord will not hear.
- 3:17To regard iniquity in my heart means that I am conscious of
- 3:20something that condemns me. Every time I approach God with
- 3:23faith, Satan reminds me of this flaw.
- 3:26That is not right, that has not been dealt with.
- 3:30It might be a sin that has not been confessed, or if it has
- 3:34been confessed, I have not claimed or received God's
- 3:36forgiveness. If I am conscious of this flaw
- 3:39in my heart, I will not receive that which I pray for.
- 3:43I must remove the consciousness of sin from within my heart and
- 3:46come boldly before His throne. Basically, this is done by
- 3:52faith, because if we confess our sin, God is faithful and just to
- 3:58forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 4:03Once we confess, repent, and trust God for the forgiveness
- 4:08and the cleansing that He has promised, we must not go on
- 4:12worrying about our sins. If we do, if we remain sin
- 4:16conscious as we pray, God will not hear our prayers.
- 4:21If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear
- 4:25me. But do you know what the
- 4:27psalmist goes on to say? The Lord has heard me.
- 4:31In other words, he rose above Satan's attempt to condemn him.
- 4:35John expressed the same thought. Beloved, if our heart does not
- 4:40condemn us, we have confidence before God, and whatever we ask
- 4:45we receive from him. We have to get rid of any
- 4:50attitude that suggests some kind of righteousness in ourselves.
- 4:53We have no righteousness of our own.
- 4:55We must come to a place where we are trusting in God's
- 4:58faithfulness and that produces confidence.
- 5:02Forgiveness is imperative. In the Sermon on the Mount, one
- 5:06of the things Jesus taught us to say, as I suppose we all know,
- 5:10is this Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, forgive
- 5:14us as we forgive others. What we might not realize is
- 5:19that this is an important condition for receiving answers
- 5:22to prayer. Jesus also said, And whenever
- 5:26you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive
- 5:30him. Now that does not leave out
- 5:33anything or anybody. When you pray, forgive that your
- 5:37Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.
- 5:42But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in
- 5:45heaven forgive your trespasses. This is absolutely clear and it
- 5:52is spoken to believers, those who have God as their Heavenly
- 5:56Father before you. And I pray we must forgive.
- 6:01It will do no good to try to approach God in prayer with
- 6:04unforgiveness in our hearts against anybody about anything.
- 6:14Ask God according to God's word. This is intimately related to
- 6:19the previous condition being directed by the Holy Spirit.
- 6:23You see, the great issue in prayer is the will of God.
- 6:28If I am praying according to the will of God, then as we have
- 6:32seen in Scripture, I know that God hears me.
- 6:35And if I know that God hears me, I know that I have the petition
- 6:40that I ask, how do I know the will of God?
- 6:45Where is the will of God revealed?
- 6:48The answer is in His Word. The great revelation of the will
- 6:53of God is the Word of God. And the Word of God is packed
- 6:57from the beginning to end with divine promises.
- 7:01The apostle Peter calls them exceedingly great and precious
- 7:05promises. And do you know what those
- 7:08promises are? The promises of God are the will
- 7:13of God. Thus, when you find a promise
- 7:17that relates to your situation and meets your need, that
- 7:20promise is God's will for you. God never promised anything that
- 7:25was not His will. Anything else would be
- 7:28inconsistent. Suppose you came to him and
- 7:32said, Lord, you promised. He would not say, Yes, I
- 7:35promised, but I don't want to do it.
- 7:40This is the great secret that clinches our life of prayer.
- 7:45We pray according to God's will as revealed in His Word.
- 7:50So David came and relaxed before Almighty God and said something
- 7:54on this order. God, you have been so good to
- 7:58me. I want to take a little time and
- 8:00appreciate you and thank you for your goodness.
- 8:04Then David said this. And now, O Lord, the word which
- 8:07you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his
- 8:10house, let it be established forever, and do as you have
- 8:14said. Those 5 short words of one
- 8:17syllable each contain the essence of effective praying.
- 8:21Do as you have said, Lord, you said it, please do it.
- 8:28If God has said He will do it and you ask Him to do it, you
- 8:34can know He is going to do it. His promises are the revelation
- 8:39of His will.
