Transcript
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: Hi friends, welcome to the Adventure Sports podcast.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: This is episode, one thousand ninety one, and it is a revisited episode in which Travis many years ago interviewed any diek.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: Now, this interview was about any diek's second book, Keys to the Kingdom, but I looked on our website.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: She has a third book now.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: None such like it.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: We need to find Annie and have her back on to talk not only about her third book, but to catch us up on all the many adventures that they have had sailing and cruising since we last talked many years ago.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: Annie, thank you so much for sharing your fun adventures with us.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're listening out there, then hey, get in touch with the adventure sports podcast.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: It would be fun to catch up.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone enjoy this show on cruising with Annie Dyke.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_04]: So I go to tack the boat to turn towards them and I turn the wrong way off the wind to touch.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_04]: You're supposed to make the wind pass, you know, over the bow.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_04]: And I just turn the wrong way and the sail gets all backweed and fill it through and he doesn't do the sails a lot.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_04]: So he's struggling a little bit to remember what to do.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_04]: And I mean, we got completely goobered.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_04]: Like our sail on caught up, tangled up.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_04]: And they're like, oh, we know you, you're that experienced sailor who writes books.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: This is the Adventure Sports podcast.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: Get out there and have some fun.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back to another episode of The Adventure Sports podcast.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_03]: This is Travis.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_03]: Back with me today is Annie Dyke.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_03]: Now you guys may remember that Annie Dyke was on the show with us a while back and we have her on because she tells us awesome stories about sailing.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_03]: Annie, welcome back to the show.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, thanks for having me, Travis.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_03]: So for our listeners that may not have heard the previous episode, help me run down.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_03]: Give me a little bit of background on who you are.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_03]: You started off as an attorney and there was essentially a big moment in your life that made you just decide to scrap all of that.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: Tell us a little bit about that.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_03]: How did you end up here from there?
- 2:51[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_04]: Looking back on it now.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_04]: It's kind of a crazy transformation.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_04]: It seems like it went so fast.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_04]: It was probably about a two to three years sort of transition.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_04]: I was a lawyer.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_04]: I was practicing in Mobile, Alabama.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_04]: And I eventually ended up practicing six years, but around the fifth or kind of fourth and a half-ish, I was just sick of it.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_04]: Going to the same job every day and just kind of sitting in a cubicle, locked in mountains of documents.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you just kind of start to stare out the window and see a different horizon.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_04]: And my second book actually, which you just
- 3:26[SPEAKER_04]: touched on goes through that whole transition.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_04]: So I was practicing attorney and actually just come off a divorce, never fun, but it's always something that makes you kind of recess and re, you know, evaluate everything in your life.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_04]: And once I kind of made that adjustment that this isn't right for me and I need to make a life change, I started looking at my career, of course, as everyone does.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_04]: And I met Philip, my boyfriend now, around that time.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_04]: And he was talking of going down to the Grenadines on a friend's boat for a week, wanted to sail the world.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_04]: And I wanted to do anything but practice law.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_04]: So kind of hooked up with him.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_04]: And we started talking about sailing.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_04]: I did my first sail with him was a article I wrote and cruising out post years and years ago, but fun story and did the first sail loved it.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_04]: And we decided we were going to get a boat and go cruising eventually.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_04]: about a two-year process, salt to the sailor covers are getting the boat and bringing it home.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_04]: And then my second book, Keys to the Kingdom covers kind of the whole thing of leaving my job, which was a little bit scary.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, jumping off without a real source of income quite yet, everything fuzzy on the horizon.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_04]: But just deciding, you know, just the time of my life, I want to do it.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_04]: I'm healthy and young and hopefully can practice law any time when I'm sixty.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I thought, right now, I'm going to go out and just, you know, see the world and see what's out there.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_03]: very cool.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I liked in your second book where you, you're a very candid person.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_03]: So you've essentially opened up about this whole experience or this life change that you went through.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_03]: And what I liked about that is we read a lot of books that where people are our adventurers and everything seems hunky-dory and glory with them.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_03]: But you don't see the downside, you know, the dark side.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_03]: So what I like about your writing is that you actually incorporate that and you let people know that, you know, I'm real people.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_03]: I have these issues too.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_03]: And you know what, you can turn this stuff around and you can do awesome things with your life.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_04]: Well, thank you.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_04]: I do hope to do that.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_04]: One of the big things was salt of the sailor was a real fun book and a real fun story and it's meant to be very humorous and self-deprecating.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_04]: It's not the sailor, but a lot of my friends and followers told me, you know, that's a great story, but that's not your real story.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_04]: That's not the big
- 5:42[SPEAKER_04]: We know you, we know you went through this huge transition and we think that's the story.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_04]: You should share and it took me a while to kind of think about it and wrap my head around it because it is.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_04]: It's like opening yourself up on like an exam table.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_04]: You just like, play it out and everybody can see your emotions and fears and and and a part of the honestly I wanted to share and I was happy right it but I worry about being so young, you know, and I'm only thirty three and people might think, oh gosh, how can she have a life revelation, you know, and no so much and
- 6:10[SPEAKER_04]: I thought, you know, people are, if they're not going to like it, they're not going to like it and I'm just going to have to put it out there because I think it's a story worth sharing and I hope it inspires people.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_04]: And I found the majority of the response is fantastic.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_04]: I have a lot of people that write me and it surprises me how in depth they go with so they were stuck in maybe a bad marriage or a, you know, mortgage on a house or a job they don't like.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_04]: Um, one guy told me, his, my book was the Bible for his new life and I thought, oh my gosh.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, did you read the fire dance chapter?
- 6:41[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I'm so full of my leaves.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_04]: But it's been touching.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_04]: It's been fun to have people really reach out to me and thankful, you know, that I did that.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_04]: So that makes it worth it, even if it reached, you know, one person, two people.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_04]: That's enough for me.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_03]: Well, if you're going to have a life revelation, you might as well have it early on.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_03]: So you can spend the rest of your life doing what you really like instead of waiting till you're older and don't have much left.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_04]: Very true, let's definitely my sentiment and always my mantressive.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_04]: Go now!
- 7:07[SPEAKER_04]: Do it now!
- 7:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think I mentioned to you in the past my mom has become a reader of yours just because you know they they lived on the sailboat for you know seven years or so and she enjoys reading your experiences you know as a as a newbie you know starting with salt to the sailor coming up through and everything that you're learning and you know that the crashes and bashes that you guys.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, oh my gosh.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_04]: I'm glad to hear that.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_04]: It's fun to hear people that
- 7:34[SPEAKER_04]: I tried to write it like, and I'm very self-deprecating.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't know what I'm talking about.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_04]: You're going to be the first one to know that I have no clue what's going on.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm just trying to hang in there.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_04]: What we're doing now, everything on the boat, I don't know if you kind of follow it on the YouTube channel and whatnot, but we're doing, we're repairing some rot and rot wood and fiberglass work.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like,
- 7:56[SPEAKER_04]: I can't clue this any but I'm down there in the build with the gloves on with the guys you know we're grinding stuff and fiberglass and I'm there man.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_04]: I'm trying but it's definitely going to be worthy of another book.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_03]: Well yeah you're getting a lot of a lot of writing out of that a lot of material but the cool thing is if you guys are sitting there doing that all yourself instead of paying somebody to do it then you know what went into you know the inner workings of your of your boat you know some things go to go to
- 8:25[SPEAKER_04]: I love that you're saying that because yes, I a hundred percent agree, but we're so we're such idiots.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_04]: We can't do it all ourselves.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_04]: We would skirt the whole boat.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_04]: We would have to cut a hole in the hole and then we couldn't patch it.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_04]: But we are doing it with some good friends of ours that are they work at the shipyard and it's been awesome to look over their shoulder and
- 8:46[SPEAKER_04]: really see how much work they do.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it is no joke.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_04]: Those boys at the are the time they put in.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_04]: And so that's been really cool.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_04]: It's been cool learning of them because this was such a big, big, big job.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_04]: You'll kind of see, we didn't attempt it ourselves, but that's when we learned, okay, we need at least one expert down here with us in this build before we think about, but it's been cool to learn.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_04]: And I definitely think next time, Phil, then I would feel confident enough to, you know, if we had to do a fiberglass repair or something,
- 9:13[SPEAKER_04]: a little more extensive than we've done we've learned it so that's a cool thing.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah absolutely well knowing when to say when is not a skill to buy the assets for sure.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_04]: I usually say a lot early in the hook I'm like I'm going
- 9:27[SPEAKER_04]: He's just so brave.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't see how.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_04]: And some things he takes apart and I'm so afraid when we put it back together, there's going to be like one little Johnson rod that we forgot.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to blow up, you know, I just never trust myself with engine work.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_04]: I'm always afraid to recrank.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_04]: Who knows what's going to happen, but he's really good at researching and reading and getting the confidence to go in there and he's like, I understand how it works.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_04]: This is what we're going to do.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like,
- 9:49[SPEAKER_04]: I've got your rent here.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_04]: I'm right behind your buddy.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_03]: First, first mate is on duty.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_04]: But it's been such a fun process.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_04]: It's so rewarding to kind of challenge yourself and learn these things.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_04]: It's really good feeling.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_03]: Well, cool.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like a much better life you've devised for yourself.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_03]: So how about some words of encouragement?
- 10:07[SPEAKER_03]: You've got people in similar situations that are thinking, you know, that life sounds like mine.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_03]: What can I do to turn it around?
- 10:13[SPEAKER_03]: How can I take that next step?
- 10:15[SPEAKER_03]: That's scary.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_04]: It is.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_04]: It is.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_04]: And I feel
- 10:19[SPEAKER_04]: I hate to be the person that's like I have the advice I have the answers because I don't you'll see in the book it was I made plenty of mistakes and I think that's the biggest thing that even if you know everybody can say be brave get out there and do it and my biggest messages you know you are going to fail at times and you are going to hit
- 10:36[SPEAKER_04]: brick brick walls and it's going to be difficult and you're going to question yourself that you got to just kind of be ready to make mistakes and be ready to fall the time or two because it's not going to be hunky dory you know perfect it shouldn't be you don't learn from it that way so that's not the way it should should turn out but you know be ready to have those mistakes happen and have you question yourself that's okay you know and everybody needs sort of the cone is to jump off that cliff but even when you do
- 11:01[SPEAKER_04]: You know, that's not that that's not going to be the end.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_04]: You're going to be learning the whole time.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_04]: So just be ready for those.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_04]: I always want to point people out to, you know, you're still going to make more mistakes and you're still going to find you pick other wrong path.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_04]: So just, you know, keep in the spirit.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_04]: Keep, you know, be brave.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_04]: But know that it's a long road ahead and just be excited for the rewards on the end.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you got it.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think it goes to say that, you know, adventure starts when you let it happen.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so if you just take that first step and just be open to the adventure that that is before you and let it happen, then you're probably going to enjoy what what you decided to do.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_04]: And it usually, I mean, it's probably not going to end up how you ever envisioned it.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_04]: You know, and it's not, that's the funny thing is that it'll lead you somewhere.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_04]: You never thought you'd be, but it's usually always works out whatever you're freaked out about or worried about.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it may be tough, but it's going to work out.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_04]: Things just kind of work themselves out.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_04]: If you're creative and diligent and just keep pushing forward with a goal in mind, you're going to get to a place that's close to where you want to be.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_03]: All right, so some fun story times, you know, in Colorado, things have been pretty darn cold lately, and we're finally just snapping out of that, and I think down to your neck of the woods and Florida, and I think, man, I would like to be there right now.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_03]: So how about a fun story?
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: So fun stories that make us feel warmer and put a smile in our face.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_04]: I remember like, you know, I used to be out in the sunshine and that's gone the boat.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_04]: The boat isn't like shambles right now.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_04]: So I can't even imagine.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_04]: I forget what it's like to sail.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_04]: But I will say, um, the last time we went out kiteboarding, um, definitely a fun adventure.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I was the last time full when I were just talking the other day that we were out in bikinis and board shorts.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_04]: And we went out in a week.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_03]: Who was wearing which?
- 12:50[SPEAKER_04]: Uh-huh.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_04]: On Asia.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_04]: He's got the man's vetoes.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_04]: Actually, I've worn board shorts before for Kaiser being sometimes for your harness.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_04]: And this sounds terrible, but I call him the lesbian shorts, but they're those big basketball shorts that go like down to my knees.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like, I'm the hottest dyke out here.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_04]: That's my joke.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_03]: Only Annie.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_04]: Only Annie.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_04]: So I have been in board shorts before, but we were out there in Pensacola.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_04]: The really cool thing about this area, what we like for cancer thing is you can have good Northland and you can kite on what you call like the sound side and the bass side.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_04]: It's protected.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_04]: It's the ICW or you can, if you have a Southland, jump out in the golf and kite out in the golf on that side.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_04]: So you kind of have all directions.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_04]: There's at least somewhere you can go and find a really cool spot.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_04]: And we were in the golf this day.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_04]: doing a downwinder where we'll start at like one point in the station some cars maybe I'm gonna say a mile but I hope I don't get who else can be like we never kind of mile why did you say that I'm so cool anyway just like yeah I don't know twenty feet feels like a mile out in the goal but um so we stationed and we did a downwinder and we're going and I'm just now trying to learn jumps Travis that's my my thing I'm I'm like hopping little frog hops and I'm trying to figure out how to do it
- 14:07[SPEAKER_04]: And apparently, if you do all things right, exactly how you're supposed to do them, you fly.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_04]: Like, do I feed in the air?
- 14:15[SPEAKER_04]: And I didn't mean to.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_04]: I've been trying, trying, trying.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_04]: And I guess miraculously somehow, little A and E did everything one hundred percent completely right.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_04]: I ripped out of the gold flight.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_04]: Of course, I say twenty feet.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_04]: It was probably like nine feet or something.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_04]: But it was big for me.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_04]: I'm screaming.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_04]: Who's my board?
- 14:34[SPEAKER_04]: And my bikini top starts to come undone.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_04]: As I land in the Gulf and I'm, you know, like a washing machine and I'm trying to make sure my kites in the air and look at it and crash my kite, but I can feel it like coming undone.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I'm like, oh boy, this is not going to be fun.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_04]: I don't have a board.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_04]: I have to go to shore.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_04]: There's like no other way to get around this and thankfully I didn't lose it, you know what I mean?
- 14:59[SPEAKER_04]: Because you've got, you can't let go the kite.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_04]: At least have to have one hand on the kite often too.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_04]: just to make sure you're controlling it well.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_04]: But I've got one hand on my back sort of holding the bikini somewhat together and one hand flying the kite and I make it to shore and there's people around you know and everybody's watching
- 15:16[SPEAKER_04]: This girl with this big tights coming up, and I think bigger crowd at this point.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_04]: Do what?
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: There's a bigger bigger crowd at this point, I'm sure.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_04]: I can't really take the time.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_04]: You go look down and make sure I'm not slipping a little and things are moving around, but I think I held it together and finally came the shore because it seems to me just in and there are my tights at noon.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_04]: which is kind of your sign like I'm going to quit or you know I need help or something so he came up and right when he kind of gets to me and he sees me holding with one hand on the back and one hand flying a guy and I'm trying to keep my back to the crowd always I keep turning around and circle and he came over and thankfully tied me back together
- 15:54[SPEAKER_04]: I just, I'm glad I didn't lose it.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_04]: You know, like that, I can't imagine because there's nothing you can do.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_04]: He's only got one hand to work with it.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_04]: When you start to land the kite, you've got to have two hands.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_04]: So just be in all out show, but luckily that didn't happen.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_03]: So are you now considering different kite boarding attire?
- 16:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's fine.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_04]: I should.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_04]: I really, really should because it could bring to my told me that a long time ago.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_04]: She was teaching me and she, so I came out my first day.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_04]: In my famous red bikini, I called it, I've worn it for the very beginning.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_04]: It was on my first cover of Salt of the Sailor, and I've had it for like three years.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_04]: It's totally tattered now and oil soon.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_04]: But I still have it.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_04]: It's my lucky bikini.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_04]: And now it's like my work bikini, because I kite bored in it, because it's kind of rough on them.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_04]: And I still wear it.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_04]: I guess I just haven't changed my mind yet.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_04]: That day should have taught me, but that's the last day we've kind of ordered this year, so maybe maybe I'll have to find something else.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_03]: That's great.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah, I understand about kiteboarding and snowkiting is it it's all it's so important to keep that kite up in the air.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_03]: Instead of crashing down the water, you almost forgo any other thing as long as you can keep that kite up in the air.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, totally.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_04]: It's it's eighty percent kite, twenty percent board skills.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_04]: And it's amazing how much you start to sacrifice mentally.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_04]: to keep that kite in the sky.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_04]: It becomes the ultimate, most important thing in your life.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_04]: I remember when Philip was teaching me how to, you know, initially, because he's been a long time fall on the kite for you ever getting the water because it is so important.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_04]: And I would always keep my eyes on the kite, like steering straight overhead, you know, and he was standing in front of me and he'd be like, look at me and tell me your name.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_04]: and I glanced down just like any, you know, back up in the kite, back up in the kite.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_04]: I couldn't even look down long enough to sound like dress or anything.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_04]: And now I can look to the side and just fly the kite completely blind because I can feel it, you know, before then in my hands, I couldn't.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_04]: But it's so important and so you're so focused on the kite when I first started in the water, going, you know, just a little bit left and right.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_04]: One of my first times that I really got going and I was so excited and I'm watching the kite, of course, always on the kite.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_04]: I kite right on the shore.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_04]: Just like straight the ground just thankfully you know luckily my board was kind of stuck in the mud and I just belly rub all across the ground and I'm flying a kite I still got the kite so I get the kite to noon and I stand up and look around make sure nobody saw me you know get my board and find a get back to the field and he's like what happened?
- 18:16[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like we're talking about nothing I'm totally fine.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_04]: He's like look at you and my front side is like swamp thing.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, like, seaweed clump of mud in my kayak.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, like, just looked like I've just been drugged behind a full real truck and I'm muddurvy.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_04]: And I was like, oh, I ran out of water.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_04]: He's not watching me showering.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, I'm totally not.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_04]: I keep my eyes on the kite.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_04]: Hello, what do you do?
- 18:43[SPEAKER_03]: Just water disappeared, you know?
- 18:45[SPEAKER_03]: I just couldn't tell you.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_04]: I had more water.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_04]: I'd been fine, you know.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_04]: That was my thing.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_04]: He said he'd never met anybody who ran out of water.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_03]: And it's hilarious, that's great.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_03]: Well, you guys don't seem to have mastered the chasing of a how yet, you know, as I was reading your second book.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_03]: I was chuckling because I'm thinking is this deja vu, or did I actually read a similar story in the first book?
- 19:12[SPEAKER_03]: So tell our listeners a little bit about that.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: And the ones that had heard the first episode with you will recognize the story, but you kind of did it all over again.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my gosh, the story that's in keys to the kingdom, that was the midsea mast climb.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_04]: I think I talked about that one, so if that's the story, you feel like I've gone all the way through, I just want to be sure, but on our trip to Florida Keys in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in,
- 19:50[SPEAKER_04]: feisty little buddy.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_04]: It'll slip right out of your hands.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_04]: It's so funny how you can, one time I actually yanked it out of my own hand.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_04]: Like I was pulling a slack on the other side and I know how important it is to hold on hand.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_04]: I yanked it out of my own hand and I thought, oh my gosh, how could you just done that?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_04]: What's your can?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_04]: It happens.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_04]: It's like dumping a cup of coffee in your lap so look at your watch.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you just, you do it.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_04]: But let go of how somehow and he's just swinging around like this fire hose in a cartoon all over the book can't seem to get him.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_04]: And we made this Frankenstein contraption of the boat hook, which couldn't quite catch them.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_04]: So we duct taped it to the fishing net.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_04]: So it turned into like this seven foot long.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_04]: I call it like an old-timey dog catcher net.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_04]: And we're running around the boat with this thing trying to catch out is about three or four feet above our head, you know, just dangling around, running around.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_04]: And he eventually whips around the backstay the backstay the boat.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_04]: And he's, I like, four or five feet above the Vimini now.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_04]: There's no way we can really get him.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_04]: And it's late at night.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_04]: We're crossing, I think we're going to clear water.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_04]: So from kind of like that electrical area to clear water.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_04]: So he wraps around the backstay.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_04]: And he'll have this like, well, that was fun.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_04]: He's like, we're not doing this tonight.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_04]: You know, we just, we shouldn't be out in the dark up on the Vimini trying to get how back.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_04]: And which is smart call.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_04]: So we go to bed.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_04]: And wake up the next morning and how has taken his sweet little time climbing.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_04]: He was really quiet because he's real busy as what I say.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_04]: And he climbed all the way to the top of the map.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_04]: He ended up up there.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_04]: And so the weight of the line we just learned pulled him up.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_04]: And so it was easy for him to just make his way to the top.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_04]: And that's when Annie had to, you know, mid-sea as we're going along and the boat's bobbing over waves just pulled me up the mast using the boat's and share in a safety line.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_04]: And I didn't think it was going to be that big of a deal of climb the mast many times, you know, but always at a marina or like at the dot when the boat is really super still.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_04]: And it's no problem, you know, you just waste your up and you go up and it's no big deal.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_04]: I call it the treat-top phenomenon when you're going over the waves, like what feels steady down at the deck below about thirty feet up is like three feet this way and three feet that way.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_04]: I mean it turns into just a wild experience because you can't let go of the mast.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_04]: That was the one thing that freaked me out when I kind of got halfway up that I realized if I let go of it, you know, I'm just just like how did I was going to swing around kind of like a tether ball on the end of the string and just
- 22:22[SPEAKER_04]: fashion stuff, you know, I can't prevent myself from turning backwards or forwards.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_04]: So that kind of little kind of scary, you know, because I realized when I get up there, I'm going to have to climb the last bit myself and I'm going to have to get how and I can't let go of the mask, like all of those things.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_04]: Um, but it worked out, you know, it's just something you have to.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_04]: You got shaky legs, but you just kind of keep going and be safe as you possibly can.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_04]: And luckily, uh, I got him and brought him back down.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_04]: And I was all skinned up and beat up.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_04]: And, but we've got how he never, um, comes off the mast, uh, say it the main sale anymore.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_04]: We don't uncle them ever, ever, ever.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_03]: Now wait a minute.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_03]: We got I want to I want to I want to beg the differ because there was a certain chapter in keys of the kingdom called any are you okay?
- 23:08[SPEAKER_04]: This is now, now, that was, we took us two lessons to learn this way.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'm trying not to be a spoiler alert, but now after we had two heart wrenching, like almost near death lessons, they were like, oh, maybe we shouldn't unclitz that ever, right?
- 23:26[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe we should pull it back at cinchet, like that's smart, you know?
- 23:31[SPEAKER_04]: You learn as you go, little things like that, sailing ball about the kind of systems and figure out, you know, just to
- 23:36[SPEAKER_04]: Tiny little fix like cinching back your mean means they'll hell you can save save first may go on up the mast
- 23:43[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I got it.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_03]: I got to admit that I'm still a little upset with you for naming the chapter.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_03]: Any are you okay?
- 23:50[SPEAKER_03]: Because the Michael Jackson song will not get out of my head.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_04]: Any are you okay?
- 23:57[SPEAKER_04]: We sing that a lot because just today, here's a fun little story for you.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_04]: So we're rebating in the boat, which has been a very big ordeal and a good thing is like he said, we're doing it.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_04]: We've said to do it ourselves with at least some friends looking at our shoulders, but we're learning it all and we're taking off.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_04]: The deck plates like the plates on the boat that hold the shrouds in.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_04]: So they're on there.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they've been on there thirty years.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_04]: And it takes a hammer and you wedge the hammer prongs under and you pull back.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm doing this.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_04]: Pulling pulling pulling and the prongs pop out.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_04]: And I suck myself in the jaw.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, like, it falls to the deck.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like, it falls goes, oh my gosh, are you okay?
- 24:37[SPEAKER_04]: Are you okay?
- 24:37[SPEAKER_04]: And as I'm laying there, I'm singing it to myself, you know.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_04]: But I have a big red wealth right now.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_04]: Like, almost wish we were on video.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_04]: You should see it.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_04]: I punched myself in the face today.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_04]: That's how my day went down.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_03]: So you guys seem to end up with a lot of photos in your book with Annie's injuries.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I'm prone to it.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_04]: It just seems to happen, but you know, I try to be as careful as I can.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_04]: I don't want anybody to think I know sometimes we don't do everything a hundred percent safe and so I'm just like at your own risk, you know, we try our best, but stuff's gonna happen.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_04]: You know, in your sailing, I was gonna get bumps and bangs and bruises, but I did not envision punching myself.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_04]: So I got a pretty good right.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_04]: I'll tell you.
- 25:15[UNKNOWN]: I'm the first one.
- 25:15[UNKNOWN]: I'm the first one.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_04]: I'm the first one.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_04]: I'm the first one.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_04]: I'm the first one.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_04]: I'm the first one.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_04]: I'm the first one.
- 25:18[UNKNOWN]: I'm the first one.
- 25:18[UNKNOWN]: I'm the first one.
- 25:19[UNKNOWN]: I'm the first one.
- 25:19[UNKNOWN]: I'm the first one.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the first one.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the first one.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the first one.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_04]: I'm the first one.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the first one.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the first one.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the first one.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the first one
- 26:05[SPEAKER_03]: So take us through a day, you know, when you're not tumbling off of the boom and you're not climbing masks and you're not punching yourself in the face, take us through one of the days where sailing is actually relaxing.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_04]: What does that look like?
- 26:20[SPEAKER_04]: I miss that.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_04]: What does that look like?
- 26:22[SPEAKER_03]: There was one of those, wasn't there?
- 26:24[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my gosh, it's funny.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_04]: It's December fifteenth.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_04]: We pulled the mast on the boat and since then it's just been a total
- 26:31[SPEAKER_04]: kind of chaos ensued with everything else that we found that we need to do and documenting it all in the videos.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_04]: But it's been that long since we have been able to sail the boat, you know, and I know it's winter, but we usually sail on the winter.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_04]: And so we've really, really going through withdrawals.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_04]: Typically, like a normal, when we go out for the weekend, we head out to Fort McCray, right around here.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if you're familiar with the area, but there's three forts kind of that Pensacola Bay.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_04]: So it's really neat when you come in the past, there's Fort Pickens on
- 27:00[SPEAKER_04]: the east side and Fort McCray on the west side, and then kind of the lighthouse and stuff on the back.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_04]: And so Fort McCray is this just occluded, tiny little anchorage with what we call sand island next to it, and it's all this white sugar kind of sand that's, I haven't seen anywhere else yet, I'm sure it's in the Bahamas and the Zuma's, you know, beautiful places, but it's sugar white, it's like quartz and it squeaks under your feet.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_04]: And so it's just
- 27:25[SPEAKER_04]: solitary you know it's just beautiful place and we'll head out usually on a Friday provision the boat and we head out Friday when Phil gets off work we're ready to go we get there about three or four drop the hook and always it's cooked till time at the hour I'm playing this rest and you can sit there and just have you know a glass of wine a drink and watch the sunset like it's is finally just kind of you should your brain shuts down and you get on call it like island time as a joke but you know it's it's
- 27:52[SPEAKER_04]: forty five minute hour-long process, you can say nothing and just watch it happen.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_04]: And it just, I don't know, it's like a reset button.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_04]: Everything that was stressing you out or kind of weigh in on you, just sort of melts off and the boat becomes an only priority.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_04]: All you can think about is a couple of boat projects you need to do.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_04]: What you're going to make for dinner, you know, and it's just this peace of mind kind of out there that's that I create and that's why I'm so excited that we're going
- 28:15[SPEAKER_04]: This year, we're going to leave October and head south again and probably go through four or five months, go longer if we can.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_04]: But I'm ready to get back to that.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_04]: It's been good to do all this stuff on the boat, but it's very stressful.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's very time consuming and hard work.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_04]: So I would love to get back to that cocktail and that sunset and that slow way of thinking.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, simple life and slow life.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_03]: There's no replacement for that.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_03]: That's for sure.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_04]: I gave it over the last time.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_04]: I've seen sunrise.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_04]: I will say that because you see it often on the boat.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_04]: Your body kind of tunes in to sun up, sun down.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_04]: And sunset will see it every once in a while in between, you know, going to the shipyard or making dinner or coming home from the office, you know, and you just kind of slips by and you just like don't realize that it just happened.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_04]: But it's never on the boat.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_04]: Is that the case?
- 29:03[SPEAKER_04]: Like you just always know sunrise sunset and you're just in tune with it.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_04]: It's such a such a neat frame of mind.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it sounds like an awesome time right now.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_03]: Like I said, it's been cold up here, so I could take a little bit of that for sure.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_03]: I wish you to get back on the boat as soon as you can and relay your stories to the rest of us who are still freezing.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you for excited.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_04]: It should be about a month and it's been really fun because I've at least been able to document it for the YouTube channel.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_04]: But I do have something I've been meaning to tell you, I was excited when you got in touch with me.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_04]: Um, I do have a really exciting thing coming out on the YouTube videos actually launching tomorrow.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_04]: And that's why it's been a lot of work trying to get this already and do all my marketing kind of have one will travel stuff while also working on the boat to have the time every day.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_04]: But, um, I know you're familiar with Patreon, right?
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_04]: Cool.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_04]: And I have been struggling myself to kind of figure out
- 29:59[SPEAKER_04]: how to use that platform because I, one hundred percent agree with it.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's an awesome thing to help creators do what they love to do and people that love what they create show them, you know, in a way that matters and helps them keep going.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_04]: It's good.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_04]: And it's fantastic.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_04]: And I had several, I think, to twenty a handful of folks that were supporting me.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_04]: And we wanted to do something different.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, like, hey, get us to a hundred dollars and we'll get a drone or two hundred dollars and we could say like Cuba.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_04]: And I was going to make a video, but I was just struggling with it.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, I just felt like it was about Philip and I in our needs and I didn't like that personally.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_04]: So I came up with a new idea.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_04]: Here's what I'm doing Travis.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_04]: I am starting tomorrow, the Patreon money that comes in.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to use it and match it so I can give what I call the gift of cruising to one of my patrons.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_04]: And the first one I'm doing is you're very familiar with her, Pam Wall.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_04]: You've talked to her several times and she's a sailing and cruising consultant, which I think you guys chatted about.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_04]: And she helps people find their boat, you know, get the boat that's right for them, outbreak it and go.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_04]: And she's the most inspirational, knowledgeable cruiser you could ever have.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_04]: First of all, just to give you a kick in the rear to say, go now and don't worry about anything because, you know, I got your back and I know this.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_04]: And to help you find the boat that's right and she can look at it and she knows everything.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_04]: She can help you find problems and things like that.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm going to give her find your boat package to one of my patrons.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_04]: where they get Pam Wall as a gift from me to help them find a boat.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_04]: I want to see somebody get in a boat this year and get cruising.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_04]: I have, like I said, so many people write me and they have this dream and they want to do it.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm going to use Patreon for that.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm, you know, I'm hopeful it works out well.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_04]: It may be King's to work out because I've, you know, it's a new thing that I'm trying and trying to bring in the money and match it and Pam's on board.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_04]: But that's the first one I'm going to do and once I get to two hundred a week, I'm going to give that gift
- 31:51[SPEAKER_04]: to one of my patrons, and then just go from there, like the next one, maybe I can give a sailing certification course to someone, you know, a couple that wants to learn how to sail, or maybe I can send them to anapolis to a boat show, you know, I can gather these gifts, and I fund them with the Patreon money, and then give them to one of my patrons.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's a great idea.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_04]: I hope so, you know, Philip and I were just like I said, it's a new idea, and so you never know, when you try something new, you always have a little, you know,
- 32:19[SPEAKER_04]: growing pains to kind of figure out how to do it right and how it works and we may make some mistakes along the way but to me it felt like the best way to use the money and to give back and help people that have been following me and have the dream too and then we get to follow it like we get to see whoever wins you know work with Pam and I'll check in on everyone some while see how the boat hunts going it's a bio boat we'll do a little video on that and
- 32:41[SPEAKER_04]: So people will see it happen to real people, you know, and I hope that motivates folks as well.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_04]: You know, like, hey, here's a normal person who's working on the post office and any help to get him on a boat and he's now cruising.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I'd love for that to inspire people to get out there and do it as well.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_04]: So that's my idea.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I hope it works really well.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm launching tomorrow with the Pam Wall campaign at first.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_04]: She's a friend.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_04]: I want to help her too.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_04]: And I think she's just an invaluable asset for anybody who wants to
- 33:07[SPEAKER_04]: try to go cruising.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_04]: So I hope everybody will jump on board for that, get inspired and get on board as my mantra.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_04]: And just a few dollars can help me give a really, really incredible gift to one of you, one of my patrons.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_03]: Very cool.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that reminds me of, you know, we had Kai Delaney on a while back.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_03]: And I know you were part of helping you.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_04]: That was one of my inspirations.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_03]: Very cool.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's what reminds me of.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_03]: And I love that you're doing it.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's like a crowd fun to get somebody over that hump and on on their way to their adventure.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_03]: So awesome.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_04]: I hope it works.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_04]: I'm really, really excited about it.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_04]: I can't imagine it not working, but if people don't donate, I'm gonna find a way to at least give this first gift because I'll feel bad because I'm like, I'm gonna do it.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_04]: So I'll make it happen.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_04]: Payment and I will make it happen.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_04]: But I hope people enjoy the premise of it and I think it's a good thing to donate to and be a part of and once you're a patron, you're in the pool of folks and next time it may be you.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_04]: I thought that'd be a much cooler thing to do with the money than now.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_04]: I'd give help us get a drone or help us go here because we worked very hard to do this and we're going to do this.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_04]: So I want cruisers are so helpful.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_04]: So many people have given us knowledge and resources
- 34:16[SPEAKER_04]: You know that I want to be able to give back in a way that I can if I have a platform and a voice, you know, that's how I want to use it.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_04]: So that's a really cool thing.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm really excited that you were able to talk to me right around this time, you know, this sares in about a week.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_04]: It'll be really interesting to see how this is going because it's going tomorrow for me.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_04]: Big day in the life of the any.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_04]: But do if you see it on there, you know, share and spread the word and hopefully we can get somebody in a boat and get him going.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_03]: Well, now it's a perfect time to talk about where they should go to see that Patreon and to donate there and where they can find everything else about you.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, thanks.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_04]: It's everything.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_04]: This central hub is have wind will travel.com.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_04]: Everything's there.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_04]: You can see the link to my Patreon page, which would be where the Pam Wall campaign is going on and you can donate there and you'll see I've set it all up now.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_04]: It's my first reward that I'm going to give out.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_04]: And then on there too is the link to my YouTube channel, which I do two videos a week.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_04]: That's been fun.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_04]: A little bit tiring, but very, very fun.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_04]: I've had a lot of people YouTube.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_04]: crazy.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it's blowing up.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_04]: It's not like the place to be and it's just astounds even me.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_04]: How many people sign up maybe like a day and I just even know where these people come from.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_04]: They like six hundred views overnight.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, are these people watching videos?
- 35:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just like, get out there and do stuff.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_03]: People wait.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_03]: Watch the video.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_03]: Then get out there and do stuff.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_04]: I know.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_04]: It's easy, but the YouTube's been really fun.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_04]: It's fun to just kind of let my personality come out and just just roll with it.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_04]: It's been really, really enjoyed that.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_04]: but um doing that my book links are there keys to the kingdom and salt of a sailor and i'm working down my third book i hope it'll come out in probably two three months but um it's gonna cover my regatta that i did in the abacos last year so that's really fun and um
- 36:02[SPEAKER_04]: Everything is there at havelandwilltravel.com.

- 36:09[SPEAKER_04]: Anybody who emails me gets a free copy of the book all the time.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_04]: Just shoot me an email.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_04]: My emails there too.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_04]: But it's Annie Dyke at gmail.com.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_04]: Real easy.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_04]: Anything you want that I can give you for free.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_04]: Just email me.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_04]: It's yours.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_03]: Man, that's not a bad deal at all.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_03]: It's just email.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_03]: Annie, she'll give you a maybe your free boat or, you know.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_03]: Not that far.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_04]: But I like your mindset.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_04]: If things go well, hopefully I'd love to be able to do that.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_04]: I would be awesome.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_03]: When the Empire reaches you.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_03]: Very cool.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_03]: Very cool.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_03]: I love it.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, go to havewindwilltravel.com and visit Annie and interact with there and get free boats and cars and all that kind of stuff.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_03]: You'll need to read both.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_03]: Get the she offered that up to our listeners.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_04]: I said, look, now you heard that right.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's right.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_03]: Very cool.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_03]: That's awesome.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_03]: Well, you're definitely not slowing down, obviously.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_03]: And I didn't even know about the next book coming out about racing.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_03]: So that's pretty cool.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_03]: It's got a fun experience.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_03]: So maybe we'll have you on again to talk about that, of course.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_04]: I would love to be honored.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_03]: Very cool.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go back into some stories.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_03]: Now you guys, you've been bumbleing around the boat and you have good days and you have bad days.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_03]: Other than climbing masks, what is another example of maybe a bad time?
- 37:29[SPEAKER_03]: Things didn't quite go right, maybe heavy storm, heavy weather.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_03]: What could somebody expect when they're not drinking champagne, you know, to sunrise and sunset?
- 37:40[SPEAKER_04]: So true.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_04]: And then it's funny.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not even sure it's a fifty-fifty balance.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_04]: Like sometimes it's sixty-fourty.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_04]: It seems like rough times with the good times.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_04]: I think the good times are just so good.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_04]: It makes the sixty percent worth it.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_04]: But we recently had a pretty bad experience sailing and it surprised us that it was in principle a bay because it's pretty protected.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_04]: Like we usually don't get how one wins through here.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_04]: But that hurricane Patricia came through.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_04]: I'm thinking now that was what three for months ago.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_04]: And so we were sailing home from Fort McCray.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_04]: Like we normally do and we were expecting wind on the nose.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_04]: You know, if maybe fifteen, which isn't great, but that's fine.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_04]: We can get home safely and it's about a five hour sale.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_04]: We started out Travis and the winds just kept picking up picking up picking up.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_04]: They got to like twenty five twenty seven right on our nose, like dead on our nose.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_04]: And I'd never thought about this before and I guess that shows I'm kind of a new contemporary sailor I would say.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_04]: It's probably like Lynn Party and the rest of them.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_04]: Um, they've dealt with this a lot, but the engine wasn't powerful enough to push us forward.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_04]: Like, there was no other, it was as if we didn't have an engine.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_04]: Like, there's no other way to move forward to get home other than to sail.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_03]: Going backwards is not an option.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_04]: Not an option.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_04]: And I just, I just, I guess I'd never even mentally process that.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, this Philips has the engine running because like, I'm, he said, I'm going to kill it.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_04]: He's just like, it's, it's, it's, it's not enough.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_04]: You know, we might be going point two.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_04]: And he said, it'll take us twelve hours to get home.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm not going to do that.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_04]: And I was like, wait a minute, we don't have an engine, but it's just kind of, you're like, okay, let's regroup and do this.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_04]: So we're flying our Jenny, tiny little sliver of Jenny, had it furled, like a freaking beach towel.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_04]: And it's round our nose, we are tacking back and forth.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_04]: And I swear every time we turn Travis, I feel like we're going backwards, you know, I mean, she tack, like, you always feel like, oh my God, I'm turning so far off of my destination.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_04]: And we may probably, thirty, forty tax, like in the channel, just back and forth, I have worked
- 39:32[SPEAKER_04]: And it's so hard on the boat, you know, you can just hear her work and so hard, all of that.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm a big lesson learned because what happened to us was all that tacking in the Ginny.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_04]: When we finally, it was finally, we finally got on the one run, then we thought we might be able to get home.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_04]: We made it past the little point that we had to get around.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_04]: We're going along everything seems great.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_04]: And here's the whole Ginny's
- 39:54[SPEAKER_04]: Unfurl what the Jenny oh my gosh, and I we're both shocked you know and I'm I always want here pop like I look at the shrouds I don't know why I just I always think I'm one I'm gonna pop the masses gonna follow really because big fear mine worst part about sailing for me is the boat like I've never once really worried about my own bodily safety
- 40:13[SPEAKER_04]: other than, you know, when I fall or something, but am I going to fall off and drown?
- 40:16[SPEAKER_04]: No, I know how to swim.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_04]: But is the boat going to bust something that cost twenty thousand?
- 40:19[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_04]: So when she grows and cries out, like, I'm freaked out.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_04]: I'm all bald up just to make it stop.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_04]: But I look at the shows.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_04]: Everything's fine.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_04]: Bill looks around.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_04]: He's that fully looks at the cleated, you know, firling line for the Jenny year has not moved.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's still there.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_04]: And I finally look up at the drum and the firling line blue.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_04]: Like it exploded.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_04]: Just busted.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_04]: And we learned later it was chafe and so very good lesson.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_04]: Check your chafe points when everything's all frilled up and under super pressure like that because it had been rubbing on the opening of the drum.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_04]: So every time we frilled back before this one little spot was just like rubber rubbing on the steel opening of the drum.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_04]: And it's so it cut it right through.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_04]: So then we have a full one, three, five, Jenny out.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_04]: We can't further in.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_04]: There's no way to bring her in.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_03]: A giant, giant flag.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_04]: Huge, huge.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_04]: And so of course, our first thought, you know, I'm like, crap, you know, it's terrible.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_04]: You worried about it.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_04]: First thought is, you know, like, yes, we can't draw for you.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_04]: You try to turn into old-timey sailors.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, how would people really handle this before there was furlers, you know?
- 41:19[SPEAKER_04]: People have been raising their sails for thousands of years somehow.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_04]: We're like, well, we can drop or you know, we start to get ready to do that and fill it crazy and June again and still he has not enough power to go.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_04]: Like it's blowing probably thirty right around then right on the nose.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_04]: He can't.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_04]: He just can't fight it.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_04]: So we have to sail home.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_04]: One thirty five Jenny tacking that thing.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_04]: It's pretty not when it's just.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_04]: You know, and it's
- 41:44[SPEAKER_04]: The sounds on the bow.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you just don't you don't want to be there.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_04]: You don't want to hear it.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_04]: It sounds like you're sounds like a tearing your boat apart.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_04]: And it's just it's hard to watch.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_04]: It's hard to be a part of.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_04]: And if something catches something snorles like it's just dangerous to tackle Jenny that big and wins that strong.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_04]: So that was really
- 42:01[SPEAKER_04]: really pretty frightening.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_04]: I was one of, we've called it one of our absolute worst sales.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_04]: Now, we've been in worse like out in Gulf crossings, but we were often motoring or motor sailing.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_04]: This we were just sailing because there was no other option.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_04]: And so that was definitely one of the worst worst sales of the boat.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_04]: That was just a terrible feeling.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_04]: But we got finally, finally, finally, it was about a five hours, you know, doing this.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_04]: And we made it close enough to the dock that we could drop the sail and
- 42:24[SPEAKER_04]: We fixed the furling line and, you know, in lesson learn, check your tape points.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure that was what had happened, but we just had never been in wins that heavy and didn't know.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_04]: And maybe it would have blown through anyway, who knows, but you always try to take away something from it.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_04]: But that was a pretty, pretty hard day in the life of, of Annie in the boat.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_04]: That's definitely not something I want to repeat.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I know keep those to a minimum for sure.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that the wind and you know wind has a ton of energy and you put a sail in the middle of it and it's a lot of weight there.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's a lot of money that you could be risking by doing that.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_04]: That's what it is.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_04]: It is and I just always think about the boat.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_04]: I just can't stand put her under any stress and I know I've probably seen like a
- 43:05[SPEAKER_04]: Rinketing sailors, other people be like, right, the rails, let's go.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_04]: And it's almost ten thousand dollars.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, anybody else is full.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_04]: I'll fill a heck out of it.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_04]: I'm curious.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's not my boat, you know, and it's my boat.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_04]: Everything changes.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_04]: We reap everything, you know, we're very careful, but there's just nothing that could be done.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_04]: And that's going to happen, you know, and I know that.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_04]: So we need to be ready for that.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_04]: There's a big reason why we're re-rigging now because we want everything to be as strong as it possibly can be because you're gonna find yourself situations like that and the boat's just gonna have to be able to handle it or it's not.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_04]: So best thing is just be prepared, you know, ready your boat.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_03]: You have to be able to rely on that equipment at the same time.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_03]: You know, when that stuff fails, it's very likely to be in the very wrong time, you know, time is always the worst when it comes to that.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_04]: What is it that Captain Ron?
- 43:54[SPEAKER_04]: What's going to happen?
- 43:55[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I've been out there.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_04]: It's not going to happen on some sunshine.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_04]: He's nice.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's right.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_03]: Nothing doesn't work that way.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I don't normally ask this question, but because you are anti-dike, you have some fun stories and you've opened yourself up and you're in your book and you're writing, I want an embarrassing moment.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_03]: Now you guys learning the ropes, so to speak, in sailing, have probably been in a few pickles that came, if funny stories came out of.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_03]: So what might be embarrassing tale?
- 45:12[SPEAKER_04]: That's funny, there's probably so many of them.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_03]: I've read your books, okay?
- 45:18[SPEAKER_04]: I don't like there's so I would think of one that I feel like maybe a little more excited about tell this, but it's all me, it's all my fault.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't hold the helm too much, you know, and I don't think there's any hidden secret about that film.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_04]: Phil does excellent helps men.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_04]: He loves to hold the wheel, and I do all the sales.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_04]: I love the manual labor of the sales, and then I get up every maybe like, fifteen to twenty minutes, help him tag and get back to my book.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_04]: And I love it that way.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_04]: That's what I would do.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_04]: He loves to actually sail the boat.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_04]: Um, but I can't hold the wheel and we try often to make me do things doc, you know, and tech and do a lot of stuff.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_04]: So I know exactly what I'm doing.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm decent.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I'm nowhere in your field.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_04]: He's just got the better feel for it.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_04]: But one day we're out there in the bay.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_04]: We thought, let's give any some practice.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_04]: You know, let's let her have the, we'll, we'll tax them and do some different drills that we don't normally do.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_04]: You know, just always want to keep the rest knocked off.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_04]: And we're sailing everything's going great.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_04]: And we pass one of my followers, like, uh,
- 46:12[SPEAKER_04]: I can't remember the name now of the boat, but there is sailing by and some of the hairless on the radio and they're like, hey, we're fans of how one will travel and I'm like, oh, cool, that's awesome.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_04]: Good to see you guys.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_04]: I know it's Eric is his name and we're chatting with him and so we're going to like, hey, let's sail right next to each other and do a little, you know, sail by blow by whatever and get some pictures.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_04]: And they say, OK, great.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_04]: And so I go to check the boat to turn towards them.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_04]: And I turn the wrong way off the wind attack.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_04]: You're supposed to make the wind pass, you know, over the bow.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_04]: And I just turn the wrong way.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_04]: And the sail gets all backweighed.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_04]: And Phillip too, he doesn't do the sails a lot.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_04]: So he's struggling a little bit to remember what to do.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_04]: And I mean, we got completely goobered.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_04]: Like our sail caught up, tangled up.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_04]: And they're like,
- 46:57[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, we know you, you're that experienced sailor who writes books.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_04]: It's not like we could never catch up to him because Annie got us so movers we couldn't get.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_04]: That's hilarious.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_04]: to come up to him, but it can happen.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_04]: It's just, you know, your mind can play tricks on you about which way to turn, or which rope to pull, or, you know, if you say a starter tag, or a port tag, you can just get rolling like a stop, and that's fine.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_04]: But right in front of them, like, I was like, oh my god, Philip was mortified.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I can see his ears were red, he was embarrassed.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_04]: I'm doing everything to do this right and she screws it up right in front of an audience say you know because we're probably so far away they can't tell that I have the wheel I'm sure when he got the radio be like hey was driving totally Annie and I would be like this I'm right I was just me and he was just so embarrassed being a very good sailor you know good captain that was
- 47:54[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that did not sit well.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's hilarious.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_03]: Good one.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: Good one.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: I'm glad I asked the question.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_03]: All right, so last question.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, no, one more.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_03]: The time has gone that quickly.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_03]: What's on the horizon for you guys?
- 48:10[SPEAKER_03]: What do you, what are your big plans to get off of off the coast of Florida?
- 48:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but it has huge plans.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_04]: It was funny when it happened.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_04]: We were kind of talking maybe Novemberish, end of October.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_04]: Um, yeah, and do what happened.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_04]: There was a rally that goes from Pensacola Cuba.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if you're familiar with this and it goes every other year.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_04]: They just, they just started this year's first ones.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_04]: You can go to Cuba, but they've decided to do it every year and I think ten or fifteen boats went and we were about to go on board and other persons boat because it takes a lot of paperwork to get your boat all lined up and we weren't ready to do that.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_04]: And so we're going to go and crew on another person's boat.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_04]: And it didn't turn out that we could for whatever reason, but we were there watching it's all these boats were like going to the principal pass headed to Cuba.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_04]: And if you want something to really kick you in the rear end, we were like, oh man, yeah, that should totally be us.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_03]: Like why am I not part of that?
- 49:04[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it was kind of disheartening.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you're waving off your friends, you're excited for them, but you want to be there on their boat going, you know?
- 49:11[SPEAKER_04]: That looks kind of a turning point for us, but we're like, that's it.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_04]: Next year, you know, that we're going, we're going to do this.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_04]: We're either going to have Cuba or Lameharris or the Keys or Bahamas or let's do this and we were like, okay, let's start talking budget at time a little bit.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_04]: The minute we make that decision, Travis, I think the next weekend, we found the rotten stringer on the boat.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_04]: I know and so I'm sure you've seen it in the videos and it was kind of like we had this conversational earlier about how when you sometimes you think things happen and they're bad luck or misfortune and when you look back on it like a month or two later you're like you know what that happened exactly like it was supposed to and it turned out better and that's worked here but when that happened we went oh yeah because we just knew that's gonna be huge fix we're gonna have to pull the mask to fix it you know a lot of expense
- 49:56[SPEAKER_04]: But it's funny, through the whole thing, we're like, you know what, this is not gonna stop us.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_04]: It's not gonna stop us.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_04]: We need to re-rig, so we'll pull the mask, we'll re-rig to go, you know, sail south.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_04]: So we'll just make it part of the whole process and we'll just have a tighter budget.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_04]: And we were like, it's not gonna stop us.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_04]: We're still going.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_04]: And we found a lot of other things that need to be done that had we not done them.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_04]: You know, we may have had a failure or other things go wrong.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_04]: So it was kind of like the boat telling us, if you wanna go south, I'm gonna show you exactly what you need to do.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_04]: And she like showed us a little rotten spot that made us head to open up everything.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_04]: which has been a great thing now and we've been doing a ton of work.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_04]: But we're leaving probably mid to late October, you know, weather wise and good weather window and going to start sailing south like we did last time towards the keys.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_04]: We want to spend more time there and we'd love to go to Cuba.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_04]: Everybody's wanting to go to Cuba.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_04]: We'd love to go to Israel and Harris.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_04]: We'd love to go around and end up in the Bahamas eventually next spring.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_04]: So this will be probably a four or five, six month trip.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_04]: We may need to fly home and stage the boat and handle things at home.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_04]: depending on work stuff but we're going we're really we've been devoting everything to it time energy money so it's it's the goal is not going away if they think it gets stronger the more time we spend it the shipyard and the more money that goes into the boat you know budget we're just like that's it we're still going we're doing this and so it's really exciting we're gonna head out this coming season and really really go
- 51:18[SPEAKER_03]: Man, that sounds awesome.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_03]: And hey, don't mind me.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_03]: If I just happen to slip a board and hide one done.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_04]: Just find out who's in the bills with those fresh and the be greaser.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_04]: I'll find out.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_04]: Good place for you.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_03]: I can grab lines.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_03]: I can throw a bumpers over the side, whatever you need me to do.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_03]: I'll be with the second man.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_04]: Fresh and the degreaser in the bills.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_03]: You hear me?
- 51:38[SPEAKER_04]: Don't talk about lines and bumpers.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_03]: And you know what I want to hear.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_03]: I figured that one out.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_04]: It's exciting.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know how to love talking about it.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_04]: It's definitely fun, you know, image on the horizon.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's cool.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_03]: Something to look forward to.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm glad that I actually glad you found the surprises on the boat before you went because that would be a complete nightmare to find that stuff out underway.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, you're off, you're outside your home port trying to get this stuff fixed.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_03]: You don't know who's the best reputable person to repair it.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_04]: It's kind of like the boat who's looking out for us.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, what we decided
- 52:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yep, I think so.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Annie, it's always a pleasure.
