- 1:49Speaker 1: Every day we knocked knock one out, I can think
- 1:51Speaker 1: to myself, another step closer. It's getting so much closer,
- 1:55Speaker 1: as as former co host of the podcast used to say,
- 2:00Speaker 1: Bob Scucci of the of Boyd Gaming used to say,
- 2:05Speaker 1: I need this for my lungs. I need the season
- 2:09Speaker 1: to start for my lungs. And in fact, like it's
- 2:13Speaker 1: still like September eight is kickoff in September eleven is
- 2:18Speaker 1: the first Sunday. I can't believe it's still like ten
- 2:21Speaker 1: days in August. We gotta go through. It's not even
- 2:24Speaker 1: as close as I would like it to be. Thank you,
- 2:27Speaker 1: Thank again, thank God, college football has moved up their
- 2:30Speaker 1: kickoff date and our boys at Big Bets on Campus
- 2:33Speaker 1: already locking in all their bets. So actually never traded
- 2:36Speaker 1: to go stucky. Colin Wilson, the news Hound, the Stash,
- 2:40Speaker 1: Brett McMurphy. Big Bets on Campus is off to a
- 2:44Speaker 1: roaring start. You must listen to Big Bets on Campus

- 2:58Speaker 1: on our YouTube, you can watch it on Twitter. But
- 3:00Speaker 1: we are here today, Simon to talk about the s
- 3:03Speaker 1: C West, and as we did earlier this week, Uh,
- 3:08Speaker 1: we're gonna have uh Colin Cowherd come on. We're gonna
- 3:13Speaker 1: talk about the f C West with him. What I
- 3:15Speaker 1: love about this is, uh, he's got huge opinions on
- 3:21Speaker 1: this conference because we've got the Chargers in his backyard,
- 3:27Speaker 1: the Raiders a team he has strong opinions on, the
- 3:31Speaker 1: Broncos a quarterback he has strong opinions on, and the
- 3:34Speaker 1: Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes, who I know how he feels
- 3:41Speaker 1: about wide receivers right now and their importance in the
- 3:44Speaker 1: NFL and the loss of Tyree Hill and what that
- 3:47Speaker 1: is going to mean. Uh, And I feel like every
- 3:51Speaker 1: opinion he has is going to be different than yours
- 3:53Speaker 1: and probably aligned with mine. Here's what's interesting about this division.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Chiefs plus one sixty Raiders plus six fifty there is
- 4:04Speaker 1: that is the shortest delta between favorite and long shot
- 4:09Speaker 1: in any division in the NFL. Reflective of the quality
- 4:12Speaker 1: of the quarterbacks in this division. I'm gonna be interested
- 4:15Speaker 1: to hear what Colin rate these four quarterbacks for just
- 4:18Speaker 1: this season. Right you know exactly who these four guys
- 4:21Speaker 1: are with their offenses. How would he order it? Because
- 4:25Speaker 1: right now I think I'm gonna shock people with my order.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And again this is just for this season, simply based
- 4:30Speaker 1: off the teams and what I know about them. At
- 4:32Speaker 1: one I got my home. Still I great him out
- 4:35Speaker 1: with the best offensive line of football or number two
- 4:37Speaker 1: right by the Eagles, And I don't really care about
- 4:40Speaker 1: the losing enough Tyreek Hill. I still think it's again
- 4:43Speaker 1: that's gonna be a big deal at certain points, but
- 4:45Speaker 1: he still has Kelsey still has a lot of weapons
- 4:47Speaker 1: on the outside, and they brought in Juju which I
- 4:49Speaker 1: think is a big deal. So to me, now much
- 4:52Speaker 1: has changed there. My second quarterbacks is gonna shock people.
- 4:54Speaker 1: It's actually Derek car Chet. I have Derek Carr graded
- 4:57Speaker 1: above Herbert and Russell Wilson this upcoming season. And it's
- 5:01Speaker 1: for a maltitude of reasons other than the fact that
- 5:03Speaker 1: I just love what they have in Vegas round that
- 5:06Speaker 1: awesome scheme and Josh McDaniels, I think is going to
- 5:08Speaker 1: bring the best out of their car. So to me,
- 5:11Speaker 1: it's a no brainer where other people are really tugging
- 5:13Speaker 1: with it. But I look at Herbert again and why
- 5:16Speaker 1: my third rated, uh not Russell Wilson. I have Herbert
- 5:19Speaker 1: is my third rated. Herbert is inconsistent. I've watched all
- 5:22Speaker 1: his snaps this off season, every single throw he made
- 5:25Speaker 1: last season, I watched whatever it was, I think it
- 5:26Speaker 1: was six twenty two past attempts he had. I watched
- 5:29Speaker 1: every single one. He's got the talent, there's no doubt.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I mean he is smart, really really smart, football wise,
- 5:37Speaker 1: incredibly and consistent, and with a with a coach inconsistent
- 5:41Speaker 1: as well, and Staley not know what the hell he's
- 5:43Speaker 1: doing with analytics. Like again, the guys all over the place.
- 5:46Speaker 1: He like try to use math as a de turn
- 5:48Speaker 1: where he's not. He's going off book, he's not listening
- 5:51Speaker 1: to the people. I just can't have him above Derek
- 5:54Speaker 1: Carr right now, a guy who didn't make the playoffs
- 5:56Speaker 1: last year, who did win a bunch of games with
- 5:59Speaker 1: a second coach, and all the drama going on with Vegas,
- 6:03Speaker 1: and in fourth I got Russell Wilson, a guy that
- 6:06Speaker 1: I know collinshi on him, I know Chad high on him.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I have not seen any indicator that offensive line is
- 6:11Speaker 1: improved in anyway. He's been getting lit up all preseason
- 6:15Speaker 1: and these joint practices that he's been doing with these
- 6:17Speaker 1: other teams. That's not good in this division. That all
- 6:20Speaker 1: these teams have stacked D lines. Every single team this
- 6:23Speaker 1: division has a good D line. So the Russell Wilson
- 6:25Speaker 1: questions is the man is gonna be thirty four years
- 6:28Speaker 1: old come November. He's undersized, he has one notorious ring
- 6:32Speaker 1: to his name, which I joke about is because of
- 6:34Speaker 1: a defense. I just I think there's too much put
- 6:37Speaker 1: on Russell Wilson that he's gonna be the Stafford, the
- 6:39Speaker 1: Tom Brady coming in first year and win the Super Bowl.
- 6:42Speaker 1: The difference was those those other teams they had offensive lines.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Russell Wilson does not have that. He's only going from
- 6:47Speaker 1: a harball offensive line in Seattle with better weapons on
- 6:50Speaker 1: the outside to an unproven team in Denver with a
- 6:53Speaker 1: weak offensive line. So yeah, my one, two, three, four
- 6:56Speaker 1: goes Mahomes, Car Herbert and Russell Wills and just for
- 7:00Speaker 1: this season, right, it's not purely career, just for this season.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I think that's fascinating. What I love is I want
- 7:07Speaker 1: to talk about Herbert for a second, because hey, you
- 7:14Speaker 1: say you watched all six and twenty two past attempts.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Do you do that in a day? Like? Do you
- 7:21Speaker 1: watch you? Do you watch the whole game? Like? How
- 7:24Speaker 1: do you do that? No? Way, too boring to do
- 7:26Speaker 1: it like that, But I said, I spread it out
- 7:29Speaker 1: over two month period because I'm all in, Like I
- 7:32Speaker 1: coming to this year. I wanted to be all in
- 7:33Speaker 1: on the Chargers. I wanted to be no, this is
- 7:36Speaker 1: the team, right, the coach is going to correct all
- 7:38Speaker 1: of his mistakes from last year. Herbert Will and I
- 7:40Speaker 1: am going to be all in on this team coming
- 7:41Speaker 1: to the season because again, on paper, they're incredible, like defensively,
- 7:45Speaker 1: all offensively. The Chargers are so good and we all
- 7:49Speaker 1: believe in Herbert, right, but I mean we can't lie
- 7:52Speaker 1: the kids hasn't made the playoff yet, right, this is
- 7:54Speaker 1: heading into his third season. We can talk about all
- 7:57Speaker 1: the pressure that's on Hurts and to her he's got
- 8:00Speaker 1: the most pressure in my opinion, on him, just because
- 8:03Speaker 1: he's kind of gotta prove it. And luckily for him,
- 8:05Speaker 1: he's a quiet guy out there in l a and
- 8:06Speaker 1: no one's really paying attention to him. But I mean,
- 8:08Speaker 1: come on, man, like we're all hyping you up NonStop,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and it's like I need to seek consistency, Like we
- 8:14Speaker 1: all know he has the arm town. So yeah, for
- 8:17Speaker 1: me watching his film, I can't believe how good this
- 8:19Speaker 1: kid is and I can't believe he fell in that draft.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And it's like, you know what, I've taken him over
- 8:23Speaker 1: Joe Burrow, probably not, but over to h Yeah, Like
- 8:27Speaker 1: just looking at his body type and his style of play,
- 8:30Speaker 1: it is interesting that he felt just in the simple
- 8:31Speaker 1: fact that he's just shy, quiet guy who has kind
- 8:33Speaker 1: of had his long hair, and you know, people really
- 8:36Speaker 1: didn't know understand him in Oregon, where it's like just
- 8:38Speaker 1: watching his body type and his throwing style, it's incredible
- 8:41Speaker 1: as talent. So for me just upcoming season, I have
- 8:44Speaker 1: the most question marks in this division I have about Herbert,
- 8:47Speaker 1: but just on talent and the skill level the Chargers team.
- 8:49Speaker 1: That's the reason I put him above Russell Wilson. What's
- 8:52Speaker 1: interesting is, you know, it's funny you say on paper
- 8:56Speaker 1: and I and you think about this team being so talented.
- 9:00Speaker 1: The Chargers have spent a generation being the most talented
- 9:04Speaker 1: team and never having the coach that can get him
- 9:07Speaker 1: over the top. So another they've got Brandon Staley, And
- 9:11Speaker 1: I can't remember. This is what I thought about when
- 9:13Speaker 1: you said that. I thought about Brandon Staley, and I
- 9:17Speaker 1: thought about, is he sitting in an office somewhere saying
- 9:23Speaker 1: if we funck this up, it's on us, right, Like
- 9:25Speaker 1: I remember years ago when we first started action gambling
- 9:31Speaker 1: was starting to get more popular, and we'd be in
- 9:34Speaker 1: the office and having our like business challenges or personnel
- 9:39Speaker 1: challenges or whatever it is, and you sort of you're
- 9:42Speaker 1: in the bunker and you're only seeing what's hard, and
- 9:46Speaker 1: then you go out in the world. And I was
- 9:47Speaker 1: talking to a buddy of mine who works in media
- 9:49Speaker 1: and he sees what we're doing and like we were
- 9:52Speaker 1: growing and getting good attention and we're in the right
- 9:54Speaker 1: space and have good backers and all this kind of stuff.
- 9:57Speaker 1: He's like, you guys are in the perfect spot. I
- 9:59Speaker 1: remember I went from lunch to him feeling great, watching
- 10:02Speaker 1: into the conference room, set down, We're about to have
- 10:04Speaker 1: a hard conversation. I'm like, guys, if we funk this up,
- 10:08Speaker 1: it's on us, Like we have every advantage to make
- 10:12Speaker 1: this work right now. And that's what I wonder if
- 10:14Speaker 1: Brandon Staley is saying that in coaches meetings or is
- 10:17Speaker 1: he so arrogant, like because of the way he's called plays.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I don't know the guy from Adam. He might not
- 10:22Speaker 1: be that arrogant. And when I've seen him speak, he's
- 10:25Speaker 1: been wonderfully thoughtful. Um, but is his philosophy is he so?
- 10:31Speaker 1: Is he so committed to his philosophy that he can't
- 10:33Speaker 1: get out of the way of the talent? That's what
- 10:35Speaker 1: I believe. He got humbled. He says he got humbled,
- 10:38Speaker 1: so I'm hoping he did. Like, again, I agree with
- 10:41Speaker 1: a lot of the math he was doing. Right. If
- 10:43Speaker 1: if you're playing against my homes and you're up four
- 10:46Speaker 1: and you're on your own thirty five and you've got
- 10:48Speaker 1: two yards to make a fourth down. I get it,
- 10:51Speaker 1: go for it you if the math is telling you not.
- 10:52Speaker 1: If the math doesn't get that, you have my homes
- 10:54Speaker 1: across the field. But if there's two seconds left in
- 10:57Speaker 1: the in the first half and you're on your opponents
- 11:00Speaker 1: five yard line, that's not a field game win, right.
- 11:03Speaker 1: If you don't get to touchdown, that's not a field
- 11:04Speaker 1: game win. You take the three there. Even the analytics
- 11:07Speaker 1: will tell you to take the three there every time.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And that's my biggest issue with the guys, Like he
- 11:11Speaker 1: claims he knows analytics and that's what he's based and
- 11:12Speaker 1: stuff off where that's not true. It's like you can't
- 11:15Speaker 1: lie and hide down the math and we all have
- 11:17Speaker 1: the math and data right in front of us. So
- 11:19Speaker 1: that's my big interesting thing with this team. It's like,
- 11:21Speaker 1: can he take that step because how many times have
- 11:25Speaker 1: we've seen a chat we you just talked about, We've
- 11:26Speaker 1: seen LT and my and my again people Sweetness Chad
- 11:31Speaker 1: thinks Sweetness is the greatest running back. Ladanian Thomas, in
- 11:34Speaker 1: my opinion, was the greatest running back ever Philip Rivers
- 11:38Speaker 1: and him together with Antonio Gates could not get over
- 11:41Speaker 1: the hump with Marty Schottenheimer. They just could not do
- 11:43Speaker 1: it for some reason. And that's what we talked about
- 11:45Speaker 1: the time. You need not just the players, the coaching.
- 11:48Speaker 1: So yeah, too many question marks for me to make
- 11:50Speaker 1: them another two number two team in this division where
- 11:53Speaker 1: I know exactly what I'm getting from the Vegas and
- 11:55Speaker 1: if only my only mindset with Vegas is they're going
- 11:57Speaker 1: to improve, right, they had so much BSCO and on
- 12:00Speaker 1: last season. Everything I've seen from them this preseason, McDaniel's
- 12:03Speaker 1: new offensive scheme he's put in, I love it. I
- 12:06Speaker 1: love it so much. I mean Adams is literally icing
- 12:08Speaker 1: on the cake with him, Waller, I mean Hunter Renfro.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I just can't get over how talented Vegas offense is
- 12:15Speaker 1: the biggest weakness in Vegas Obviously horrible secondary, I mean
- 12:19Speaker 1: just say, absolutely terrible on paper. Secondary. So going to
- 12:23Speaker 1: be exciting team this season for sure, where they're just
- 12:25Speaker 1: gonna be in shootout. So I again this list. I'm
- 12:28Speaker 1: excited to hear what Colin thinks. It's it's it's tough
- 12:30Speaker 1: to do these four quarterbacks against each other, but when
- 12:33Speaker 1: you really base it off what they have on their teams,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and just for this season, it's it's exciting because again
- 12:39Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about this. At the end of the year,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I might look like a complete idiot taking Derek car
- 12:43Speaker 1: over Russell Wilson justin Herbert, But in August, I'm feeling
- 12:46Speaker 1: pretty good. Well, look, you may not like. Look the
- 12:48Speaker 1: the huge advantage that car has now is they signed
- 12:52Speaker 1: Davante Adams. They've got you talk about weapons in Renfro
- 12:57Speaker 1: and Waller at tight end, They've got incredible weapons. Uh,
- 13:02Speaker 1: they've got a new coach. Is he going to be
- 13:04Speaker 1: the coach that can take advantage? Is he gonna be
- 13:06Speaker 1: better if Josh McDaniel is going to be better than
- 13:08Speaker 1: he was in Denver? We'll see to the playoffs. I
- 13:12Speaker 1: mean that really happened. People forget that actually happened. You
- 13:15Speaker 1: know what, Let's ask Colin. Let's bring Colin in and
- 13:18Speaker 1: let's see what he has to say, because this is
- 13:20Speaker 1: a division where he's gonna have a lot of opinions
- 13:22Speaker 1: about the quarterbacks. NFL kickoff is still a few weeks away,
- 13:27Speaker 1: but you can get in on the action now on
- 13:29Speaker 1: FanDuel Sports Book with their NFL Super Bowl win bonus.

- 13:43Speaker 1: I'd be taking the Buffalo Bills to win it all

- 13:48Speaker 1: win ten games, I'll get my money back either way.

- 15:09Speaker 1: puba volume podcast network media mogul. We had talked about
- 15:14Speaker 1: the NFC West. Now we are talking about the best
- 15:18Speaker 1: division in football, the a f C West. Colin, before
- 15:21Speaker 1: you came on, sign that I want you to list
- 15:23Speaker 1: your ranking of the quarterbacks in this division, and I
- 15:26Speaker 1: want Colin's reaction. So this is on the basis of
- 15:28Speaker 1: this is just for this year and about the team
- 15:31Speaker 1: around them, not a quarterback first quarterback, just for these
- 15:34Speaker 1: individual quarterbacks and the teams are on. So for this division,
- 15:37Speaker 1: I still look at as it's Mahomes, right. I don't
- 15:40Speaker 1: really worry too much about losing tyret Kill when he
- 15:42Speaker 1: has when the number one graded out was the number
- 15:44Speaker 1: one offensive line of football, where he still has Kelsey
- 15:47Speaker 1: and we know they've added other offensive weapons to them. Now,
- 15:50Speaker 1: this is where it gets a little crazy in my list.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Derek Carr for me is the number two quarterback in
- 15:54Speaker 1: this division, and the many many reasons is not just
- 15:57Speaker 1: my faith in Josh McDaniel stepping in and up being
- 16:00Speaker 1: upgrade to this offense. We know what it is with
- 16:02Speaker 1: Derek Carr, right, He's got Waller, he's got Hunter Renfro
- 16:05Speaker 1: and then they brought in Davante Adams, who was his
- 16:07Speaker 1: best friend in college's number one go to guy. It's
- 16:10Speaker 1: all set up for him this season, and I still
- 16:12Speaker 1: have too many question marks who my number three quarterback
- 16:15Speaker 1: is justin Herbert can look incredible for two quarters and
- 16:18Speaker 1: then he'll just have to take a quarter off or
- 16:19Speaker 1: he just won't look right and he won't make the
- 16:21Speaker 1: smart plays. And that's again that's an age thing where
- 16:23Speaker 1: I think he's a quarterback with Again people talk about
- 16:26Speaker 1: two on Jalen Hurts. I put Herbert right there as
- 16:28Speaker 1: a quarterback with the most pressure on his back. Two
- 16:31Speaker 1: years in the league, no playoff appearances, all this hype.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Last year, Chad just read it off fourteen to one
- 16:37Speaker 1: for the Chargers to win the Super Bowl. Insanity. And
- 16:41Speaker 1: then my last My number four guy in this division
- 16:43Speaker 1: is Russell Wilson again, thirty four year old quarterback under
- 16:47Speaker 1: size five eleven. That's being nice with a bad offensive line.
- 16:52Speaker 1: The Broncos this preseason have blocked nobody. They've blocked no
- 16:56Speaker 1: one in there there. They've done litted camp with other
- 16:58Speaker 1: teams and they're not blocking people. And Russell Wilson's having
- 17:01Speaker 1: to take just these these plays where he's breaking outside
- 17:04Speaker 1: the pocket, which is great, which is where we like Russ,
- 17:07Speaker 1: but that was years ago. Again, Russ is thirty four. Now,
- 17:09Speaker 1: he can't be taking big hits. We've seen it two
- 17:11Speaker 1: years in a row where he's taking little hits and
- 17:13Speaker 1: has not been right right. That hand injury took him
- 17:16Speaker 1: out all last season. So for me, number one Mahomes,
- 17:19Speaker 1: number two Derek Carr, number three Herbert and number four
- 17:22Speaker 1: Russell Wilson. And then again this is just for this season.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I like all four, so I know this is a
- 17:29Speaker 1: cop out, but I view them as four unique players.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Mahomes is the most gifted, but is the least consistent mechanically.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Herbert's the best mechanically, but can be and he could
- 17:41Speaker 1: be the logo of the NFL. The way he throws,
- 17:43Speaker 1: you get the exact same sewing motion, big strong arm,
- 17:46Speaker 1: but he can be at times a bit mechanical. Uh So,
- 17:50Speaker 1: in a way, Herbert and Mahomes are very different. One
- 17:53Speaker 1: is mechanically a challenge, but just all sorts of crazy angles.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Herbert is the same motion for every throw, but he
- 18:01Speaker 1: can be a little stiff. I think Russell's the best
- 18:04Speaker 1: playmaker of the baseball player in him the ability to
- 18:08Speaker 1: be elusive, keep a pocket alive, and yet never get hit.
- 18:12Speaker 1: All these years he's had one finger injury. He's never
- 18:15Speaker 1: been hurt in college. And I think Derek is smaller,
- 18:19Speaker 1: less of an arm less elusive, but has shown an
- 18:22Speaker 1: ability to um and it could be as religious conviction
- 18:28Speaker 1: to not hear a ton of noise and chaos. He
- 18:30Speaker 1: kind of plays through stuff. He tunes a lot of
- 18:33Speaker 1: bullshit out and we saw this last year the team
- 18:36Speaker 1: falling apart. He is so focused on what matters to
- 18:40Speaker 1: him that he's very unique. He's not as he's not
- 18:43Speaker 1: as strong as Herbert. He's not as gifted. He doesn't
- 18:46Speaker 1: make plays, but he hit his I think Derek Carr's
- 18:50Speaker 1: great ability is to um overcome. He's an overcomer um.
- 18:57Speaker 1: So I look at all four of him as having
- 18:59Speaker 1: kind of a special quality. I think it's the best
- 19:02Speaker 1: quarterback division of my life. I don't know there's ever
- 19:05Speaker 1: been four quarterbacks this good. They're all totally unique, card
- 19:10Speaker 1: and have a huge arm. Russell's a little small, Justin's
- 19:13Speaker 1: a little mechanical. Sometimes mahomes a little loose. But they're
- 19:19Speaker 1: all gifts. So and I don't have a problem ranking,
- 19:24Speaker 1: you know, wherever the rankings are. I just think they're
- 19:27Speaker 1: very unique. I think they all they really what they
- 19:32Speaker 1: really do is what the NFL has become at quarterback.
- 19:36Speaker 1: You could take all four of them and say this
- 19:39Speaker 1: is the NFL. It used to be white six four
- 19:44Speaker 1: pocket passers. We got short guy, we got big, mechanical guy,
- 19:48Speaker 1: we got side arm guy. It's all flavors. It really
- 19:53Speaker 1: is the NFL. You can win four different ways with
- 19:57Speaker 1: four different quarterbacks, and you couldn't in the seventies. Everybody
- 20:00Speaker 1: was kind of the same. That's going to take away
- 20:03Speaker 1: of that division. So this Division right now, difference in
- 20:07Speaker 1: the odds to win the division from the Chiefs to
- 20:10Speaker 1: the Raiders. Chiefs Chargers, Broncos Raiders is the shortest of
- 20:15Speaker 1: any division. Obviously because of the quality of the quarterbacks.
- 20:19Speaker 1: You have talked on your radio show countless times. This
- 20:23Speaker 1: is a wide receiver league. You need to invest in
- 20:25Speaker 1: the wide receivers. We talked about it with Green Bay.
- 20:28Speaker 1: They haven't invested in the wide receivers. The Chiefs got
- 20:32Speaker 1: rid of Tree Hill. They're the odds on favorite to
- 20:36Speaker 1: win the a f C West. You and I have
- 20:38Speaker 1: talked about how we both love Russell Wilson. Simon just
- 20:43Speaker 1: listed Russell Wilson fourth. The Broncos are third in odds
- 20:48Speaker 1: to win the division. Who do you think? When is
- 20:52Speaker 1: this division? Right now? I have Denver winning it because
- 20:55Speaker 1: here here's my takeaway, here's what I worry about Kansas City.
- 21:00Speaker 1: So not only did the Broncos go and get Randy Gregory,
- 21:05Speaker 1: they also got DJ Jones from San Francisco, So I
- 21:09Speaker 1: think they have the most talented defensive front. My argument
- 21:13Speaker 1: is what quarterback will be the most comfortable. So the
- 21:17Speaker 1: old line for the Raiders is bad. Outside of Colton Miller,
- 21:20Speaker 1: it's been shaky, so I have them for I love
- 21:23Speaker 1: Rashaan Slater, but they got a right tackle problem with
- 21:26Speaker 1: the Chargers in a division with a lot of good
- 21:28Speaker 1: pass rusher their third I think Creed Humphrey has become
- 21:33Speaker 1: the best or second best center in the sport. I
- 21:35Speaker 1: do worry without Tyreek Hill their ability to play from
- 21:39Speaker 1: behind at the same level. They've lost their lightning strike.
- 21:41Speaker 1: They'll be productive. I like Denver's old line. I think
- 21:45Speaker 1: they have really strong running games, so they'll mostly play
- 21:49Speaker 1: on the mostly thrown play action. I think their backs
- 21:52Speaker 1: are great. So my thing is, I think Denver's actually
- 21:55Speaker 1: going to run more than people think. I think people
- 21:57Speaker 1: think it's gonna be let Russ Cook. They lost Tim Patrick.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I think they're gonna be I think they're gonna be
- 22:01Speaker 1: a lot about a lot of a running team that
- 22:04Speaker 1: throws mostly on play action, and that's where Russell's really effective.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Russell is not terribly effective on third and nine. Russell
- 22:11Speaker 1: is really effective on second five. He's really effective because
- 22:15Speaker 1: he gets that crease, that opening on play action. Because
- 22:18Speaker 1: he's short, there's openings on the offensive line. So I
- 22:22Speaker 1: have I have Denver winning it. The one thing I'll
- 22:25Speaker 1: say about Kansas City, is that because Mahomes is so gifted,
- 22:29Speaker 1: we've got to acknowledge this. He has had the last
- 22:33Speaker 1: two years six games stretches where he's mechanically in the
- 22:38Speaker 1: weeds now and he brings him back. I mean, and
- 22:42Speaker 1: you'll say, yea, we got to get it right. You know,
- 22:44Speaker 1: if you go back and look at mahomes is pre
- 22:48Speaker 1: draft scouting resume, I mean they literally call it. They're like,
- 22:52Speaker 1: he's great. You got to coach this guy. Like he
- 22:55Speaker 1: gets mechanically into the weeds. Last year he had a
- 22:57Speaker 1: six game stretch. He was just off. He's so mesmerizing.
- 23:03Speaker 1: You know, Well, you go to a fireworks show and
- 23:06Speaker 1: the fireworks shows amazing. Then you drive home, go to
- 23:08Speaker 1: the park the next day with the firework shows at
- 23:10Speaker 1: it's a freaking mess. It's uninhabitable for two days. Because
- 23:14Speaker 1: Mahomes is so great, you don't see all this stuff
- 23:17Speaker 1: behind it. Because his moments are so great. He it
- 23:20Speaker 1: can be bad, like he has bad like Cincinnati he
- 23:24Speaker 1: had a bad second half. He has bad half. But
- 23:27Speaker 1: if the fireworks show is so glamorous, nobody wants to
- 23:30Speaker 1: look at all the stuff on the ground. Is I
- 23:32Speaker 1: think Mahomes is less consistent, then we all want to
- 23:36Speaker 1: admit I think Herbert's actually I think we look at
- 23:40Speaker 1: Herbert and we think it's kind of inconsistent. But I
- 23:44Speaker 1: could argue Derek Carr I get the same guy virtually
- 23:47Speaker 1: every Sunday. I mean I kind of feel like I
- 23:49Speaker 1: always get the same Derek Cary leaves the NFL and
- 23:51Speaker 1: the fourth quarter of comebacks since he entered the league.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I kind of feel like he's had six coaches nine years.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I get the same Derek Carver a year. But my Homes,
- 24:01Speaker 1: he's he's a handful. I think there are times that
- 24:05Speaker 1: Andy Reid is pulling his hair out with it, and
- 24:06Speaker 1: I love him, but we forget these bad halfs and
- 24:10Speaker 1: bad months back to back years. I've seen this a lot.
- 24:16Speaker 1: This is great because Simon almost had me turned around
- 24:20Speaker 1: before you came on, because he's so pro Niners. Uh,
- 24:25Speaker 1: I mean so pro Raiders. Uh. Like I said, Chiefs, Chargers,
- 24:30Speaker 1: Broncos Raiders are. The current UM is the current order
- 24:35Speaker 1: for the a f C West. It's A plus one
- 24:38Speaker 1: sixty plus two fifty for the Chargers, plus two sixty
- 24:42Speaker 1: for the Broncos, plus six fifty for the Raiders. Here's
- 24:46Speaker 1: what's interesting for the Super Bowl. Three of the top
- 24:53Speaker 1: seven teams to win the Super Bowl right now in
- 24:57Speaker 1: terms of future odds are from the a f C West,
- 25:00Speaker 1: the Broncos, the Chargers, and the Chiefs. The Russell Wilson argument,
- 25:06Speaker 1: to me goes back to something Jordan Palmer said on
- 25:11Speaker 1: this podcast on The Favorite Podcast about three or four
- 25:14Speaker 1: weeks ago. He's not a buyer of Russell Wilson and
- 25:17Speaker 1: sort of the inspirational moments or what he does off
- 25:24Speaker 1: the field. He's a buyer in the consistency he exhibits
- 25:28Speaker 1: on the field. Players want to know what they're gonna
- 25:30Speaker 1: get the last two minutes. You want to know what
- 25:32Speaker 1: your quarterback is gonna be doing. You want to know
- 25:34Speaker 1: he's going to deliver it where he says he's going
- 25:35Speaker 1: to deliver it. You want to be able to make
- 25:37Speaker 1: your play because you know he's going to make his play.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I think that's what you get from Russell Wilson more
- 25:42Speaker 1: than anything. That's why I like the Broncos to win
- 25:44Speaker 1: this division simon more than the Raiders, more than the Chiefs,
- 25:48Speaker 1: more than the Chargers. I love Russell Wilson. I love him.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I bet you do. You're the bet in public, Chad.
- 25:55Speaker 1: That's how that's how they get you. Again. Everyone's sucked in.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Everyone's been all over this for months, and I'm just
- 26:00Speaker 1: I gotta be the realist and if I'm just looking
- 26:02Speaker 1: at straight value, that's why I like the Raiders. There's
- 26:05Speaker 1: zero reason why the Raiders should not be plus three
- 26:07Speaker 1: win this division. The difference between them the Chargers Denver,
- 26:11Speaker 1: it's minuscule. If anything, it should favor Vegas because of
- 26:16Speaker 1: what we just talked about, everything they just went through
- 26:17Speaker 1: last year, they still somehow made it in by people
- 26:20Speaker 1: forget this. They be the Chargers at home right on
- 26:23Speaker 1: the last game of the year. So to me, it's
- 26:25Speaker 1: just that's how the public is. They just like the new,
- 26:28Speaker 1: shiny new toys and the new exciting things, and I
- 26:30Speaker 1: gotta be that boring guy where it's like, Okay, I
- 26:33Speaker 1: know Mahomes is the best quarterback or the second best
- 26:36Speaker 1: quarterback of football if you think it's Josh Allen. I
- 26:38Speaker 1: know Andy Reid is one of the best offensive minds
- 26:40Speaker 1: and all football. I'm getting them both in a year
- 26:43Speaker 1: where people are down on them. So to me, I'll
- 26:46Speaker 1: just wait and hope that Mahomes is another slow start
- 26:48Speaker 1: and I'll just get great value on betting the Chiefs
- 26:50Speaker 1: later in the season. But it's kind of what happened
- 26:53Speaker 1: last year. I just think too many people are looking
- 26:55Speaker 1: at what happened with Mahomes last year. I think that
- 26:57Speaker 1: was more of they were due for a bad year.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Not every team is like the Patriots and Tom Brady
- 27:02Speaker 1: and you win the division and you come the number
- 27:04Speaker 1: one seed. Every year. It's a normal football There's ups
- 27:07Speaker 1: and downs. It's just how it is with these regular teams.
- 27:10Speaker 1: And a down year last year the Chiefs, they were
- 27:12Speaker 1: still the best team, right Like we were all shocked
- 27:14Speaker 1: when the Bengals came back and beat them in that
- 27:16Speaker 1: second half. So to me, just looking at from that standpoint,
- 27:19Speaker 1: I agree with Collin's assessment that the Denver thing is
- 27:22Speaker 1: that's the exciting thing, right Russell Wilson, the upgrade from
- 27:26Speaker 1: him and Drew from Drew Lock, it's day and night.
- 27:28Speaker 1: You can't even compare it. So that's where I'm I
- 27:30Speaker 1: think Collin's right, where it's like, if this kid can
- 27:33Speaker 1: come in and if they can go four and oh
- 27:34Speaker 1: three and one to start the year, Denver, they're off
- 27:37Speaker 1: and running. Everything I've said is pointless about Russell Wilson
- 27:40Speaker 1: because he does have that moxie, like, yeah, he's lame
- 27:43Speaker 1: as hell and his audio clips, but dude, on the field,
- 27:46Speaker 1: you cannot deny his swagger. We've all seen it with
- 27:49Speaker 1: his swagger and the guys they follow it, and Denver
- 27:51Speaker 1: has been dying for that. So I do agree with
- 27:53Speaker 1: Colin on that sense that Denver is the upside of
- 27:56Speaker 1: this division. Well, the one thing I worry about now,
- 27:59Speaker 1: Russell has been a great September quarterback the last three years.
- 28:03Speaker 1: In the first three weeks he's got twenty nine touchdowns
- 28:06Speaker 1: in one pick. But here's what I worry about. Kyler
- 28:10Speaker 1: Murray and Russell play a very similar style. Even when
- 28:13Speaker 1: the pockets cleaned, they move a lot of times. Russell
- 28:16Speaker 1: feels better in September than December, and Kyler feels better
- 28:19Speaker 1: in September the December. And my question is that style
- 28:24Speaker 1: just wears on your legs. I mean, this is why
- 28:26Speaker 1: Westbrook Russell Westbrook falls apart in the playoffs. His style
- 28:30Speaker 1: is so hyper athletic that by the end of the playoffs,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I mean second round of the playoffs, it feels like
- 28:36Speaker 1: Westbrook is shot. You know, Steph Curry's game is jumpers,
- 28:40Speaker 1: and I mean he's playing half the court. And so
- 28:43Speaker 1: I think Russell and Kyler are so hyper athletic that
- 28:47Speaker 1: I do wonder like the is Russell hitting a wall
- 28:51Speaker 1: athletically where he's like his style it does not last.
- 28:55Speaker 1: It's not Tom Brady. Brady is five years old. He doesn't.
- 28:58Speaker 1: It's it's you know, as long as he gets to ply,
- 29:01Speaker 1: you know, the yoga that he's his core is strong.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I mean essentially, I mean if you if you look
- 29:09Speaker 1: at how seasons work, it gets colder, you're less limber.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Kayler and Russell Wilson I worry about like Russell's moving
- 29:18Speaker 1: out of his prime and Kyler is already in it.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Whereas I think you can play. I think Justin Herbert
- 29:23Speaker 1: could literally play for twenty three years. You know, he
- 29:28Speaker 1: moves when he has to, so there not. That's the
- 29:30Speaker 1: one knock on Russo Wilson. It's like he's put on weight.
- 29:33Speaker 1: He's not quite as quick, and I'm like, I don't
- 29:36Speaker 1: know if you can play that style. I don't think
- 29:38Speaker 1: your primes thirteen years in that style. I think it's
- 29:40Speaker 1: like eight. And some people think I've heard people say
- 29:43Speaker 1: he's moved out of his prime by October or November.
- 29:47Speaker 1: You may be right, that's very possible. I don't. I
- 29:51Speaker 1: that's that style, that hyper athletic style basketball football. I
- 29:55Speaker 1: just think it has limitations. I think you age very quick.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I mean Westbrook got thirty two. It's over, Cam three over.
- 30:04Speaker 1: You know you start looking at I mean Peyton Manning
- 30:06Speaker 1: had four neck surgeries. Had he not fallen apart, Peyton
- 30:10Speaker 1: could have played Blue's forty three years old. All right,
- 30:15Speaker 1: everyone give me. I think we've made it pretty clear.
- 30:19Speaker 1: I just want to confirm, Colin. Give me your pick
- 30:24Speaker 1: to win the a f C West again, Chiefs Chargers,
- 30:32Speaker 1: Broncos Raiders, your pick to win Denver wins Kansas City
- 30:39Speaker 1: wild Card playoff. Charger special teams kill them finished third,
- 30:44Speaker 1: Raiders defense, they can't overcome it their fourth Wow. Okay,
- 30:49Speaker 1: you like the Broncos. Uh Like I said the Broncos
- 30:52Speaker 1: about plus two sixty to win the division, Simon, I'll
- 30:59Speaker 1: go Chiefs, Chargers, Raiders then Denver. Wow. I just got
- 31:05Speaker 1: to believe the Chargers finally get over the hump and
- 31:07Speaker 1: make the playoffs this year. I just could you see
- 31:09Speaker 1: their special teams against Dallas. Yeah, yeah, yeah, But I
- 31:14Speaker 1: was saying the chat on paper, it's incredible offensively, defensively,
- 31:18Speaker 1: Oh my god, the Chargers have zero excuse this year.
- 31:20Speaker 1: That's what to me. Sta Staley is on the hot
- 31:23Speaker 1: sea already. It's like, Okay, you can be your wild
- 31:25Speaker 1: man going up for a fourth down in your own twenty,
- 31:28Speaker 1: but no playoffs this year. If I was them, you
- 31:30Speaker 1: have to move on. Yep, they have to go. The
- 31:34Speaker 1: last time you were on the show in the spring,
- 31:36Speaker 1: we assessed where you are in the growth of the
- 31:41Speaker 1: Volume and your media media mogul them. You were adamant,
- 31:45Speaker 1: don't chase money, find good management. Chase good management, not money,
- 31:51Speaker 1: because there's a sea of money out there, there's not
- 31:53Speaker 1: a lot of great management. We're going into our second
- 31:57Speaker 1: football season. How are you feeling right now? Well, the Volume,
- 32:01Speaker 1: added Richard Sherman. We have two major announcements in the
- 32:05Speaker 1: next three weeks. I think we're going to have an
- 32:09Speaker 1: incredible football season. We have now assembled our entire management team.
- 32:15Speaker 1: They're awesome. Uh And it's the most fun I've ever
- 32:19Speaker 1: had building something. It's the most fun I've ever had.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Like I like broadcasting, and I haven't doing it forever,
- 32:25Speaker 1: but I like new stuff. And the volume is because
- 32:28Speaker 1: it's sort of like, remember when you were in high
- 32:30Speaker 1: school and I was a team guy. I played in
- 32:32Speaker 1: the baseball team in literally we didn't have high school baseball.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Played in the football team and a basketball team, and
- 32:38Speaker 1: the wrestlers always had this thing where, hey, I don't
- 32:43Speaker 1: need to depend on other people, and that was always
- 32:46Speaker 1: their thing, like you're on a team. And I was
- 32:48Speaker 1: always like, yeah, okay, I like teams. To be honest
- 32:52Speaker 1: with you, I like teams, and I really noticed it
- 32:54Speaker 1: with a volume. Building teams is fun. It is really fun.
- 33:01Speaker 1: It's like all the things that guys like compartmentaling building.
- 33:05Speaker 1: I mean, we all built fort or played with legos
- 33:07Speaker 1: as kids, Like you're building a team. There's just something
- 33:12Speaker 1: great about it. I love our team. We've got major
- 33:14Speaker 1: announcements coming. I don't know, it's fun. The only thing
- 33:19Speaker 1: I'd add is awesome. I'm a big Steve Spurrier guy.
- 33:22Speaker 1: And Steve Spurrier was a state champion, picture won the
- 33:26Speaker 1: Iceman Trophy, It won national titles, and someone said, so decorated,
- 33:30Speaker 1: but to keep coaching, and he said, winning individual things
- 33:34Speaker 1: is nice. Winning individual accoldes is great. I like winning
- 33:37Speaker 1: team championships because when a team wins a championship, everybody
- 33:42Speaker 1: gets to hug. It's nice. Well, it's like you're playing
- 33:45Speaker 1: GM You're you know that. That's like I talked to
- 33:48Speaker 1: people at Action about this who are on the management
- 33:52Speaker 1: side and moving up, Like that's all this is is.
- 33:57Speaker 1: It's like moneyball, right, and you're constantly asking you need this,
- 34:00Speaker 1: you need this. You've got to replace forty five home runs?
- 34:03Speaker 1: How are you going to do it? You're gonna do
- 34:04Speaker 1: it with this number of people. You know, you see
- 34:07Speaker 1: what the market is doing. You try to anticipate where
- 34:09Speaker 1: the market is going. How are you going to beat
- 34:10Speaker 1: this competitor. It's super fun. It's a The satisfaction comes
- 34:16Speaker 1: in a much longer term, right broadcasting, You sit down,
- 34:20Speaker 1: you've got a good bit, you build a good tree,
- 34:21Speaker 1: you've got the good branches. You know you've had a
- 34:23Speaker 1: good show. This You don't know if it's working for
- 34:27Speaker 1: eighteen months, two years. What's the reaction you bring in Draymond? Oh, Draymond,
- 34:31Speaker 1: that was a good idea that worked out. Well, what
- 34:33Speaker 1: are the other archetypes we can bring in? Like Draymond
- 34:35Speaker 1: that's that's harder to be satisfied immediately with. Yeah, it is.
- 34:41Speaker 1: You're you're acquiring, drafting, developing. It's fun. There's a lot
- 34:46Speaker 1: of talent out there, you just gotta find it. There's
- 34:48Speaker 1: a lot of talent there really is. And a lot
- 34:51Speaker 1: of times, you know, a big network can hire people
- 34:55Speaker 1: because they have certain things they have to fill. They
- 34:57Speaker 1: have to find a sideline reporter or played by a
- 35:00Speaker 1: guy or an analyst. I'm just looking for talent. I'll
- 35:03Speaker 1: figure out where to put you. You're funny, you're smart,
- 35:05Speaker 1: you make me think you're curious. Hi are you? I'll
- 35:08Speaker 1: figure out where to put you. That's the fun part
- 35:10Speaker 1: is we have so much flexibility as you know what
- 35:12Speaker 1: the Action network. You know, like if you find some
- 35:15Speaker 1: of the talent that you just got to figure out
- 35:16Speaker 1: how to make them work. You know, the networks, you
- 35:19Speaker 1: know they have board members and you know they have
- 35:23Speaker 1: to worry about Wall Street and I just have to
- 35:25Speaker 1: worry about fun and talent people. That's a great freedom.
- 35:28Speaker 1: It's fun. That's when it's fun to be an insurgent.
