- Chuck Atkinson: Hey everybody, welcome back to another episode of Play Under Review numero seven. that's Spanish for those out there. Jer, how we doing today, buddy? Jeremy: We're doing pretty good. Had a good weekend. Spent the weekend at the cottage. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, wasn't too bad at all. Wasn't too bad at all. yourself, what did you get up to? Jeremy: I was I was at the cottage and one of the last weekends we can spend there. We're gonna close that up soon. It's starting to get cold. But yeah, watched a little football this afternoon. Chuck Atkinson: Getting a little chat. Jeremy: And yeah, good week in in hockey. We've got lots to talk about. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, we do, yeah. Football's in high gear. we're week finishing up week six here at this point. We're filming of course Sunday evening, getting ready for Sunday night football as always. so yeah, no, it was a another great Sunday of games. few upsets in the making that we're gonna touch on as well. And our fantasy teams, hockey season, of course, baseball season, and the playoffs are almost coming to an end. The World Series is right around the corner, but Jar, as always, let's start off with the NFL, week six. Jeremy: Weak sex. Chuck Atkinson: any big any big shockers on on the on the schedule today. I know that the one that stands out to me right off the hop is just finished watching it not too long ago was the Arizona Cardinals upsetting the Rams in Los Angeles. Yeah, and so Jeremy: Yeah. Yeah. Was that eighteen sixteen as a tight game? Chuck Atkinson: yeah. It it was. Nobody expected that, especially after the week that the Bills had with the Rams last week. that had that high scoring affair. But yeah, no, it was quite the Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: shock, quite the shock. I don't want to say that my prediction is unfolding as expected, but the Rams are who Chuck thought they were. not a playoff contending Jeremy: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: Super Bowl winning team this year. but starting looked that way. Jeremy: Starting to look that way. Starting to look that way. How about those Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: browns, man? There's another one. The the browns. I'm not wearing my browns hat tonight, damn. If wearing I'm back to plugging the J's. Chuck Atkinson: Right. Jeremy: But yeah, the Browns man. They might they might Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. I know. Jeremy: be almost for real. It's weird, but here we go. And like I Chuck Atkinson: Listen, I I I'm not you can't crap on the Browns. I'm certainly not gonna this week. I I certainly respect their game, their their defense, their quarterback. My opinion of him still remains the same. I still think he's a giant douche and that the folks in Cleveland deserve a better quarterback than what they have. But I'm sure that that's what they're gonna find next year in the draft in April. but for now they're stuck with Deshaun Watson who has led them to a four and two record. just having beat the Ravens today thirteen to ten in a nice defensive game. But but the Ravens didn't the Ravens didn't, however, Jeremy: Yeah, man. And the last time What's that? Chuck Atkinson: though. I'll I'll I'll stop you right there. The Ravens did not have excuse me there for jumping out for a second. They didn't have Lamar Jackson. so Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: you know, they they they had Derrick Henry, they had Flowers back, but they didn't have Lamar at the helm, but And yeah. Jeremy: Well, but yeah, I don't know, but like I said, the the the last time they were in first place in week six in the NFL was twenty fourteen. So it's been twelve Chuck Atkinson: No way. Jeremy: years since the Browns have been sitting in a spot like this at four and two. Chuck Atkinson: That long ago. Wow. Jeremy: That long. Yep. Chuck Atkinson: Well, when if it's been twelve years, I'm assuming if it's been twelve to thirteen years that they've been in first place, they've probably gone through at least 16 to 17 quarterbacks in that time frame. And we can laugh if we want because it's humorous to say that out loud and thinking about it. But if you look at the laundry list of quarterbacks, they've gone through a number of jerseys over the last twenty years, twenty-five years. I would have to guesstimate that somewhere in the last twelve years it's probably around the sixteen to seventeen QB range, starting QBs over the course of the seasons. Jeremy: Do you wanna do you wanna know since since twenty fourteen? Give me a number. Give me your give me your Chuck Atkinson: All You got the you get the number there? You get the Jeremy: ac give me your number. What do you think? Your real number. Chuck Atkinson: I'm gonna say seventeen since two wait, no, since two thousand fourteen. But I'm gonna have to say I'll go twenty-two then. Jeremy: This is anybody that has started at least one game since twenty fourteen. Yep. Chuck Atkinson: One game. I'm gonna say twenty two quarterbacks. Jeremy: Twenty-three different starting quarterbacks since twenty fourteen have started at least one regular season game for the Browns. They've had forty two different quarterbacks since the nineteen Chuck Atkinson: 99. Jeremy: ninety nine season. Chuck Atkinson: Since they came back into the league, I bet, right? That was their first year back. Jeremy: Yeah, forty two different quarterbacks since nineteen ninety nine, yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Hilarious. man. It's just a state of misery. Jeremy: Yeah, at this point they got more turnover than a Tim Hortons drive through. There Chuck Atkinson: No, I know. my god, forty-two since ninety nine and twenty-three cents fourteen. And Jeremy: Yeah. Let's just Chuck Atkinson: listen how how this how have the fans of Cleveland not moved on out of the city to go cheer for another team like the Browns left them to go to Baltimore? I I don't know. It's they they've they've sucked through enough there. they definitely deserve. They deserve more. Jeremy: Just in just in com yeah. Just in comparison, the Packers have had only five different starting quarterbacks since the twenty fourteen season that have started one game. Chuck Atkinson: Since it's well well, yeah, I mean I'm sure there's a Jeremy: Rogers, Hindley, Love, Willis, and Clayton Toon. Clayton Toon. Don't even know the guy. Never heard of him. That's because Rogers and Love have started pretty much all of those games. Chuck Atkinson: Well, you know what though, I bet if you look on his resume, he probably started for the Browns at some point. Jeremy: Probably he did have a start for the Browns in there. Yeah. But that is crazy. Chuck Atkinson: Absolutely. my god. They they s actually for today's game, they they they dug up Bernie Kosar for today's game and they brought him out, Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: propped him up on the stand, and they got him to wave a guitar around. I didn't seem like much of a reaction, probably because they thought he was a ghost. But Jeremy: Hehehe. Chuck Atkinson: no, they they propped him up there and they showed him off to the crowd. And maybe maybe that was the Jeremy: I don't know. Carson Palmer's probably the guy that Chuck Atkinson: maybe that was the magic pill to beat the Ravens today. Who knows? Some Bernie Bernie Jeremy: Maybe. Chuck Atkinson: luck. Jeremy: I'd say Palmer's the guy that's played the most games for that team though in that that stretch. Who else? Who else has been a mainstay in cle in Chuck Atkinson: Humor. Jeremy: wasn't it Paul no, never mind. I was thinking that's Cincinnati. That's the other that's the other team that's always down in the d Yeah, yeah, that no, never mind. That's who I was thinking. But that's the other team that doesn't make the playoffs. Yeah, no, got them a little confused. I like the Bengals Chuck Atkinson: you're thinking Carson Palmer. okay, yeah, yeah. No, that's the other Ohio team that doesn't win anything. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Yeah, no, they would the Jeremy: as well. They're always a fun team, but they can't do nothing. Chuck Atkinson: Well, you get a cheap ass owner that doesn't want to do anything. He drags contract extensions along like they're a hooker on a bad date. So Jeremy: It's terrible. It could be a great franchise, man. It's just they got great their it's it could be could be great, but Chuck Atkinson: Well, once again, it comes down to ownership. If you get the right owners at Jeremy: Yeah. It's like everything. Chuck Atkinson: the helm, who run the right operations. So you know what? The ownership doesn't really matter. Look at the Niners. You know, their owner just got caught for pimping. And they're five and So who Robert Jeremy: Five and Chuck Atkinson: Kraft, Robert Kraft goes to massage parlors for happy endings. So I mean, who Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: knows? They win Super Bowls like crazy. maybe Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: that's the magic sauce that Cleveland's missing. Who knows? Jeremy: That could be. Chuck Atkinson: But they've had they had Deshaun Watson go to all these masseuses, so they tried the soup, you know, the his magic sauce and that didn't work. So Jeremy: man. So how how how how let's leave Cleveland alone, but how's the Chuck Atkinson: Anyways, we'll get off of Cleveland. Let's get off Cleveland. There's more teams in the NFL than Cleveland Browns. Yeah. Jeremy: how's the X Factor performing today in the Riverview Fantasy football pool? Chuck Atkinson: I want to touch on my Chargers. Let's go back to the NFL for a second. Let's let's Yeah, there's way Jeremy: you want to touch the chargers? Chuck Atkinson: more going on before we get back to the fantasy football league. I mean, Jeremy: Okay. Chuck Atkinson: we you know, the Packers are coming up tonight. That's gonna be an awesome game. Like you mentioned, that's gonna be a shootout. Jeremy: True. That's gonna be great. Chuck Atkinson: Hopefully it's a shootout. can never tell what the Cowboys have. Over on the 53. Jeremy: I've got over on the fifty-three. I think it's fifty-three and a half and I'm going on I'm going over on it. Chuck Atkinson: I'm gonna say under. I'm gonna say under. only because I don't know which Dallas Cowboy which team is gonna show up. they just lost to Tampa Jeremy: Here, look. Chuck Atkinson: Bay last week last week at home, where they score 17 points. Green Bay's defense is playing really well right now. Aaron Jordan Love playing awesome. Matthew Golden playing awesome. Watson playing great. hopefully they can figure out their run game. but no I think gr Green Bay should win this game by a touchdown margin at the very least. I Jeremy: So I'm going with Chuck Atkinson: know it's I know it's a pick'em game, but a touchdown is realistic based on how how Dallas plays against good teams. Jeremy: What what do you think of this parlay? We got both teams, touchdowns, Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: one touchdown each in the first half. Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: Okay, both teams, one field goal each in the first half, Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: and the over on fifty three and a half. Laid down a ten dollar bet, and it's gonna it's a hundred and fifteen dollars. Chuck Atkinson: Touchdown each, field goal each, over on the over on the game. Jeremy: Touchdown each, field goal each, over Yeah. If there's any chance of it being over, they're both gonna ha they're gonna have both have touchdowns and both have field goals for sure. But Chuck Atkinson: I would say that there is going to be a touchdown for each for sure. I'm not sold on the field goal for both. Yeah. Jeremy: Field goal? That could be tough. Chuck Atkinson: I I would say Green Bay would have a better chance of getting the field goal than Dallas. Brandon Aubrey, as good of a as a kicker as he is, hasn't been booting a lot of field goals this year as of yet. tonight could be the game, but It's gonna be close, but I would probably lean. Touchdowns, yes. Field goal, Green Bay, over. Probably not. I'm betting on the under on that one. Just because I think Green Bay's defense Jeremy: How about how about this? Chuck Atkinson: is gonna show up. And and Jeremy: How about this one? Chuck Atkinson: to be on and to be honest, Green Bay's rushing game isn't that threatening even against a a piss poor Dallas defense. So it's gonna be a passing game. Jeremy: Yeah. Well, I think Lloyd's we'll see. Lloyd's gonna have a good night again tonight. He's he doesn't wanna he's not Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: gonna wanna lose, give up some he just started playing good and if you're t I w and yeah, so Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, yeah. And so what we discussed earlier, yeah. Sure. Jeremy: What w we'll talk about that, but I'll just give you one more thing before we go into that. But I'm gonna give you one more parlay that I got tonight too. So I two parlays Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: on tonight's game. The one I did one I just gave you. Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: Here's the second one. Javante Williams score a touchdown. C. D. Lamb score a touchdown. Chuck Atkinson: Mm. Jeremy: Marshawn Lloyd to score a touchdown. And and Christian Watson to score a touchdown. The sup that supports my over. And Chuck Atkinson: well. Well, well listen, you're betting on the over, so you need touchdowns. Jeremy: But this that's it. Th there's no it doesn't matter who wins the game, that's the parley right there. All those Chuck Atkinson: Right. Jeremy: are the four touchdown scores. So Williams, Lamb, Lloyd and Watson all a good touchdown. That also has that's that that also pays a hundred and fifteen bucks on a ten dollar bet. So Chuck Atkinson: I will go three out of four. The one I'm not gonna go with it C D Lamb. C D Lamb. I I think it's gonna I think it's gonna be a George Pickens night. It's gonna be a George Pickens night. And I don't I know you don't want to hear that because he's on your fantasy team as well, I believe. Jeremy: Yeah. C D. no no. He's bouncing back from that friggin' two point performance last week. No, C D No, I need him I need him to get me some points tonight 'cause I'm right in these games, so which we'll talk about after. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: I knew it was fantasy related, yeah. Jeremy: Anyway, so you're also telling me that Jacobs is come is is now being reinstated, which is what what I was about to say with Marshawn Lloyd and he's he probably he probably wants to show he can he can carry the ball tonight. So leading Chuck Atkinson: Exactly. Jeremy: into that, what what what do you got what do you think what do you think about Jacobs coming back? What's your take on this whole situation? Chuck Atkinson: Well, my take on Josh Jacobs is more and more or less the same as my Jeremy: He's a little d a little bit douchey. Chuck Atkinson: take would be of Ray Rice. the only difference is that we get we get to see, the public get to see. Jeremy: Yeah. But it's not gone through the courts yet. Chuck Atkinson: What's that? Jeremy: It's not through the courts yet though, right? So that's the that's where we're at, so Chuck Atkinson: Well well, he's suing to keep the tape sealed. Okay. you don't sue to keep a tape sealed if you have nothing to hide. Ray Rice was Jeremy: Probably probably not. No, probably. Chuck Atkinson: caught on video and he never played a down of football ever again. I'll put it like that, Jeremy: Yeah, it's true. Chuck Atkinson: okay? his suspension before the video came out, I believe, was longer than that of Josh Jacobs. I I could be wrong. I think it I think it was though. And the difference is that the public, the commissioner's office, the league, get a chance to see the Ray Rice video and what he had done. Now, Jeremy: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: Josh Jacobs claims he's innocent, nothing to see, didn't do anything wrong. But we as the public know, and the police know, and the NFL knows that there is a an existing video of the actions that he was being charged with. And he is now suing the police department to keep those videos and that videotape from being shown to the public, let alone the league. And I guess my reasoning is now what the hell's going on with the NFL for allowing this to happen to not being able to enforce an extended suspension you can keep them on a commissioner's exempt list, you can suspend them as a team. there are many options. Jeremy: Has Green Bay spoke about it? Chuck Atkinson: they know no team is gonna speak about this because it's an ongoing legal matter, still hasn't been fully resolved, and they are gonna welcome him back with open arms as if nothing happened. And what is gonna happen in a couple of months' time when he thinks this is all forgotten about. And everybody's moved on. Is that the tape will have come out and it will come out eventually if it's not going to come out on its own? but somebody will release it. And the NFL is gonna have a bunch of egg on their face that they're gonna have to answer to and four by allowing this man who hit his woman to come back in the league and play professional football. Now, on top of that, not only is he on the commissioner's exempt list, but he's being paid his professional salary. while he's on this list going through this court appeal and this pr this lawful process right now. so it it really is disturbing. Jeremy: Yeah. But that's the whole thing with the court systems is that you ha have to be proven guilty, right? That's I understand what you're saying. And I agree with you. I think he's probably guilty as all hell. So we all Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: know the actual prob but it's not we d we actually don't know. So Chuck Atkinson: No, but there's you know but things and there's been times where people have been suspended over the years, not for as evidence shown, but because of the image that you put on the league, the black eye, your behavior, that kind of stuff there. Listen, playing in the NFL, I don't know if anybody realizes it still nowadays, because it's a athletes are entitled more so than ever. They feel the sense of entitlement. That everything that comes their way is deserved. It's not, quite frankly. playing in professional sports, putting a jersey on with your name on, representing a city and a team, makes you a professional athlete. That means you have to act like a professional where you're getting Jeremy: Yeah, a hundred percent. Chuck Atkinson: perfect, where you're getting paid professional money and to act in an according manner while you're representing your team, your your your last name and your franchise. And your city that you you represent. And when guys like this come along and there is a self- self self-sense of entitlement, like, well, I I'm I'm supposed to be able to play football. I'm allowed to play football. Well, no, nobody has to pay you to play football. It's a really it's a it's a privilege that you're playing professional sports in any league. And if a league doesn't want you to play in their league on their team, that's their right. And they can terminate your contract at will. and for for his behavior and for what he did, it's pretty shameless that the Green Bay Packers are sitting there with their thumb up their ass, quite frankly, and their mouth shut, acting like nothing's gonna happen when this guy comes back and all they're gonna care about care about is whether he can get a hundred yards and two touchdowns a game. Quite frankly. When they should be worried about the young kids that are sitting in their stands buying the jerseys looking up to these athletes. Or sometimes they should be called athletes because they're a bunch of jackasses, quite frankly. So that's just my rant on on Josh Jacobs Jeremy: Yeah. No, they're entitled a lot of times, but Chuck Atkinson: and that's my thought on on that matter. And personally I I wished I'd never see him in the NFL again. I hope he doesn't come back. And if he does, I hope he gets a knee injury. So there. I'm being honest. Jeremy: Well that's why I was saying. That's why I'm saying I hope Marshawn Lloyd runs the ball for 120 yards, tonight gets two touchdowns and makes it real hard for Green Bay to decide they want Chuck Atkinson: Absolutely. Jeremy: to put even put the guy back in the lineup. Chuck Atkinson: Hey, if it helps you on your fantasy team for this Marshawn Lloyd character, I don't even that Marshawn Lloyd, is that his name? Okay. it could be not not not the Seattle guy, right? Jeremy: Hey, Marshawn Lloyd, man. He's the guy, he's the guy up right now. Chuck Atkinson: Not the sh not the Seattle guy. Okay. Not not beast mode, not beast mode. Okay Jeremy: No. Not the Seattle guy. Not beast mode. We're talking Marshawn Lloyd of the Green Bay Packers. And he's gonna he's Chuck Atkinson: Okay. But no. Jeremy: gonna he's gonna run the ball tonight for a hundred yards and a touchdown. Chuck Atkinson: I hope he does. I hope he does and they don't have to even think about Josh Jacobs ever again. In a perfect world. Jeremy: That's what we want. Touchdown last week, man. He had a good week last week. Had me fourteen and a half fantasy points last week. and nobody knows who he is. And he's gonna make a name for himself for Chuck Atkinson: Hey. Jeremy: the Packers and for the Fleas. Chuck Atkinson: Cause why? Jeremy: 'Cause we need him to win. And unfortunately I do have Josh Jacobs sitting in my bench right now. That's why I ha that's why I have Marshawn Lloyd. I've had I've had Jacobs Chuck Atkinson: that's why Jeremy: since the beginning of the year, and that's why I have Marshawn Lloyd in the first place, 'cause I would never know who he was either. I'm well, I am a Packers fan and I do watch so I've seen him playing, but I took him at the beginning because Jacobs wasn't going to play, and here we are. So that'll be a Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. And here and here you are Jeremy: That'll be a predicament. Chuck Atkinson: with some Josh Jacobs on your team. Jeremy: So I'll have some you know I i yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Carrying it carrying a dead roster spot for a dead running back. That's what he's doing. Until you've until further notice, when you have a further explanation whether he's gonna be playing full season or not, you know, then you can make a further, I guess, that's decision. Yeah. Jeremy: That's why I've had him on my bench and it's somebody if he's a if he's a free agent, somebody else gonna take him. Chuck Atkinson: Well Jeremy: And is whether or not he's a douchebag or not. Chuck Atkinson: Well yeah. Jeremy: I haven't seen a fantasy football pool where they left the guy on waivers because he was an idiot. Haven't seen it. There's all kinds of idiots. Chuck Atkinson: Well, hey, hey, I was the biggest hey I hey listen. I was the biggest Michael Vick fan in the world. I was back in the heyday, back when he was playing for the Atlanta Falcons. And I am, as you can see, and you are as well, a dog lover. I am a dog daddy. Jeremy: Yep. Big dog lovers. Chuck Atkinson: And but when that went down, with his dog fighting ring, that I no, that was I got a fine line. You know, Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: you you you hit women and you fucking hit dogs and abuse dogs. I don't care what fanny for san what fantasy relevance you are in real life. I'm not, you know, saying I'm I'm not Jeremy: Yeah. I think he sends Chuck Atkinson: saying I'm better than I'm not saying I'm better than anybody else out there. I'm not when I say this. I just personally I didn't have Mike Vick on my team ever again. Even though I was the biggest supporter before he came out of prison. Jeremy: That's true. But he was really never that much he was never that great after that after going to jail for a while and all that stuff. He was never the same after. Chuck Atkinson: Well, to be honest, so he came out a better he he he he went so when he was Jeremy: He I think he's a better human today than he was then though. I think Chuck Atkinson: a hundred percent. Hundred percent. Jeremy: Mike Vick has really I think Mike Vick is a a little bit of a changed person because he had to be, but also I think maybe he actually he did. 'Cause I think he's now Chuck Atkinson: No, he is a definitely a changed person. Absolutely. But you know, that's says that's you you do you you do the crime, you do the time. Hopefully during that process you come out a changed and better person, and a a a more self aware person. Jeremy: If nothing else, I think he's put a lo if nothing else, I think he's put a lot of money back into animal rescue services and things after all of that 'cause he kinda he kinda had to. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, he put his time in there and he still supports the causes and but no beforehand he Jeremy: So worse Chuck Atkinson: he was a great running quarterback who couldn't throw the quarterback, throw as a quarterback, Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: and then when he came out, went to Philadelphia, Jeremy: He could throw. Chuck Atkinson: became a better passer under Andy Reid in Philadelphia and had a couple of good, great seasons there, quite frankly. Absolutely. Jeremy: That's true. That's true. In Philly he was pretty good and I forgot that was kinda the after after Vic. Chuck Atkinson: there's always gonna be that one game where he played against the Washington Redskins. I think it was on a Monday night football game. Where they just torched them. And it was some fun to watch. And him, LaShawn McCoy, I believe was there. And Deshaun Watson. So that was a the Speedsters. They were really fun. But yeah, modern day NFL. Jeremy: The speedsters. Chuck Atkinson: Chargers are still Owens. What we're and seven now. We lost to the Chiefs today. and seven. and and seven. I called this. Jeremy: Yeah, they got a big six points. Put up a big Chuck Atkinson: I called us after week two, Jeremy: put up a big six. Chuck Atkinson: did I not? I said we're gonna go on a run. If we play the tape back from episode three or episode two, I called that we Jeremy: Yeah, yeah. Chuck Atkinson: were gonna go on a run and we might see eight and right in the eye. And we are looking at eight and right in the face next week. This is something else. Jeremy: Well, you're you're owing s it eight and or so are that put you at and seven right now? Chuck Atkinson: We are gonna we are 0-7. 0-7. Wait, no. How many weeks are we in now? Week six or week seven? Okay, well sorry, we're we're and six for sure. Yeah, and Jeremy: This is week no, this is week six. You y you're owing six. Your own six. Chuck Atkinson: so I I'm getting ahead of the losses here, I'm sorry. I'm counting the losses too fast. Jeremy: I mean you w y you were playing the the the Chiefs. Actually I don't know if that you might have got more than six points. Last I saw in the fourth quarter, it it was twenty two to six. What Chuck Atkinson: Well no, we had six points at you know in midway through the fourth quarter. That's that's the the last time I checked in and then that's the the last time I like I said checked in. Jeremy: That's the last I saw it. I don't know what it finished. Chuck Atkinson: I I I really can't give my time to them other than just scoreboard watching at this point. I just can't. they gotta fire Mike McDaniel. the guy is a he's a bum. He just went from coast to coast. I I swear he's a beach he's a beachcomber. That's what he is. He goes from Miami to Los Angeles to work on his ankle tans. That's all he does. Jeremy: Ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: He's an ankle tan guy. You know? Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: And yeah, obviously they're Offense, if you even want to call it that, is not responding. What do you say to a team that doesn't score 13 points a game? Being helmed by a quarterback who's supposed to be the next Johnny Unitis, being Jeremy: Ha ha Chuck Atkinson: directed by Mike McDaniel, who is looking more like the the hamburger by every passing day that he thinks he's an offensive coordinator. Jeremy: He's Chuck Atkinson: Jim Harbaugh just gotta let the guy go, just take control. of the offense. I know you're a defensive guy. Actually, is Jim an offensive guy or defensive guy? I know he played quarterback. But other than standing there looking Jeremy: Don't know. Chuck Atkinson: confused, like bubbles on the sidelines, I don't know what his deal is. I really don't. he tops he talks in Jeremy: Well how c he he was a good coach at Chuck Atkinson: hypotheticals. and and and yeah I I really don't know what to what to think of this team anymore. 0-7. 0-6. Sorry. 0-6. I'm I'm getting ahead of the losses already. We're tied with the Dolphins. Jeremy: Getting the Chuck Atkinson: We're tied with the Dolphins. The Titans won today. Jeremy: Yeah. I've I've got a clip of Justin Herbert throwing an interception right here. It's a beauty. Chuck Atkinson: Which one? Which interception are you watching? Is it from today or is it from the first quarter Jeremy: It's Chuck Atkinson: or the third quarter? Jeremy: no, it's it's from today. Ha ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: There yeah. There there's not much to say about the team. Jeremy: Yeah. It's from today. Chuck Atkinson: Let's see, let's see another classic Justin Herbert effort here. What are we looking at? All Jeremy: Let's see. I'll show ya. Chuck Atkinson: right, we're looking at second and three, prime position for a first down going into the chief land. And and he pit he pitches it to the Chiefs. That was a my god. Jeremy: Ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: went walk. Well it was a it was a good it was a good try. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, I don't know what to say to about that other than that looked like a lob pass, then went awry. And Jeremy: Yeah. Yeah. It was pretty brutal. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, that was pretty brutal. Jeremy: So anyway, didn't work. The sharing c kinda Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, that's that's the day in the life of a ch Charger fam right now. Jeremy: Hm. Chuck Atkinson: And un unfortunately there there isn't really much to look forward to. Our offensive line once again is hurt. our running game is in shambles. We our receivers are are non-existent. Our defense is getting gassed and gashed. Yeah, so I d I really don't know what the Chargers can do other than just get rid of McDaniel at the end of the day. It's their season's cooked and we're looking at a top three, top five for sure draft pick going into twenty twenty seven. So but Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, so I mean another another busy week around the league. like we said, you know, Arizona upset the Rams. anything else that caught your attention there around the league this week, Jerry? Jeremy: No, not really. I caught the end of the Pittsburgh game there. That was was pretty good. Pittsburgh came back, won that in overtime. It was a cl w c close game. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Yeah, Aaron Rodgers wasn't looking too he wasn't looking too hot for the first first three quarters of the game really. They had to they had to turn it on fourth quarter in overtime. They'd steal that one right back 'cause the Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: the rookie and what's name Jaden Daniels? Jalen Daniels for for Tampa Bay. Jalen, sorry, yeah, you're right. no, he had another good game. Jeremy: Yep. No, Jalen. Yeah. I th or Jaden. Wha Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: We'll call him Daniels. He had a Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: another good game for Tampa holding the fourth down for for Baker Mayfield and we'll see we'll see how that goes. But fantasy wise Jeremy: Yeah, and the other one I too that it was a little Jacksonville lost too Chuck Atkinson: go ahead, man. Jeremy: today. No, I was just saying Jacksonville. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: They Houston managed to get get themselves on the board and that was a close game, thirty four thirty one, but I was yeah. The Jags lost, so Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, that was that was a fun one to watch. Yeah. what's his name there? Hunter. Jeremy: I didn't see much of it, but it just yeah. Chuck Atkinson: They're their first overall pick from last year. first guy, I think, if I remember correctly, reading this. I don't know if it was in the last 20 years or the last 40 years. in fact, check me if you want. but he first defensive player who had an interception. and a receiving touchdown in the same game. So I know they expected a lot out of him last year when they traded you know three first round draft picks for him to Cleveland. you know a lot to expect a lot of expectations to fall on one guy's shoulder when you get three draft picks traded for you, especially when you're a receiver and a defensive player, a defensive back. That's that's quite a haul to give up. And no he he's he's he's blossoming, he's growing and he's still still very early in a career. can't throw these these young guys, these quarterbacks, defensive players. out out to the heap there after a couple of bad seasons. we all remember Peyton Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Manning when he started out his career, how that how that went over the years. So you gotta stick with these guys, give the time to blossom, develop, learn how to play the game, the NFL game. It's a fast one. yeah. Jeremy: Yeah. Well you keep talking just for a second. I've got to deal with a couple of raccoons right in my driveway right now. I'm just gonna go get them out of here and I'll be I'll be right back. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. All right. So Jerry is gonna go take care of some wildlife. let's see. What can we talk about today, folks? Since we have some chuck time, you and I together for a few moments here while he goes to do some pest control. let's see, the X Factor, my fancy football team. Looking great in both leagues, potentially going back to back in the Halifax League and looking at a potential three peat now in the Riverview League. Whereas this year, Jar, since you're coming back to join us at a perfect time as I'm saying this, it's the le it's the year of the fleas. It's the year of the fleas. So he's calling. Jeremy: yeah, I just to It continues to be the year of the fleas. Bobby seems to be chirping in here saying it's not the year of the fleas, it ended in week two. Doesn't know what he's talking about. Chuck Atkinson: So Jer, let's let's stay on fantasy football, of course, since we're we're diving right in. how how'd your fantasy weekend go? Let's start with Riverview League. How'd you make out there? Jeremy: Well well, it's it's ongoing. It's not done. yeah. But Chuck Atkinson: It's ongoing. It's ongoing. Meaning that there's a game tonight in progress and there's one tomorrow. Jeremy: Yeah, I got the sea dogs on the ropes right now. I'm losing sixty six to eighty point five. but they they've got nobody left. I've got Chuck Atkinson: Good. Okay. Jeremy: Jordan Love going right now, C. D. Lamb going right now, Tuckercraft going right now. So Chuck Atkinson: That's on lockdown then. That should be a lockdown. Jeremy: It should be, but we'll see. Love's already got eight points, by the way. Chuck Atkinson: Well, Q B Q wide receiver and a tight end. Jeremy: Yeah, and Love Love's already got eight points. We're already he's got a hundred and nine yards and a passing touchdown the first f six minutes of the game. So there's my Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, so fifteen points here on out, that's that's a lock, yeah. I'm gonna ask you on this here for a quick second. Jeremy: Yeah. But I need C D Lamb to do something. Chuck Atkinson: Who did you know who he passed the touchdown to? Jeremy: I don't rate off hand. I could click on and I can tell ya. maybe. Does it say? No, it doesn't. CBS sucks ass. I mean, is yeah, C B S isn't very good for that. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. We love CBS. It's been our home for twenty five years in counting. Jeremy: yeah. So but Chuck Atkinson: It's not an overpriced website to use for fantasy football at all. Thank God for the credit we get every year to join. It is, it is. It is. It's very user friendly. Jeremy: No. It is still the b it's still the it it is still the best, but it's just they Chuck Atkinson: you don't get all the fluff that the the MV NFL website and ESPN have. sometimes Jeremy: But they're just not as they're not very good with their predictions. But then again nobody is. That's Chuck Atkinson: Nobody is. Nobody is. Jeremy: the thing. So Chuck Atkinson: Listen, I picked Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: up I was in desperation mode today for my roster. since we're waiting for you there to get the touchdown score. so the X Factor today, we had a wide we have wide receiver situations going on. My number one excuse me is Keenan Allen. Okay. Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: And well, my number one is Rasheed Rice. And he he's not playing like a number one receiver. He's playing like a guy who doesn't play every game, which he's not. so de facto number two was actually Stefan Diggs. Hurt, Jeremy: Mm. Chuck Atkinson: plays for the commanders. That tells you enough as it is. then I had to go to Keenan Allen. thank God. He's the only guy who's really catching balls, aside from Josh Downs in in Indianapolis. And then I have picked up this guy named Kendrick Bourne for the Cardinals today. Jeremy: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: And my other receiver is I can't even tell you who it is. But anyway, so I had some f I had some shot Jeremy: your your other your Chuck Atkinson: what's that? Jeremy: who who your other receiver is? Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. My n it's not Washington, I know that I had Malik Washington. Maybe I still have From from Miami. Jeremy: No, you've got you you've got McConkie, Romeo Dubs. Chuck Atkinson: No, I d no, no, I'm the X Factor. Yeah, and who else? Alan? Jeremy: sorry, wrong s wrong guys. You've got digs and born. yeah. Digs and born Chuck Atkinson: Rice? Jeremy: And Rasheed Rice, Allen and Raymond. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. that's right. That's right. I took a flyer on Raymond today. Jeremy: Who only got ya two points this week, so Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, and what what did Bourne have on the bench today? I think he had at least five Okay, so serviceable Jeremy: Six six and a half. Five catches for forty seven yards. Chuck Atkinson: serviceable considering what was available. And then had to pick up somebody had dropped Kyle Pitts and now I know why Kyle Pitts was on the free agent wire because he he's just not reliable. Jeremy: Although we had twenty and a half points for ya. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: hey, he had a great day for me, but he was actually on the free agent wire, which is kind of surprising because I believe he's still a top twenty four tight end. But with him it just comes down Jeremy: Well yeah. That's Chuck Atkinson: to weekly frustration. Does he show? Does he not show? is Tua throwing the ball this week or is it Michael Penix? if and is if it's if go ahead. Jeremy: Yeah. You know who got your the it was yeah. No, no, go ahead, keep going. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, no, if it's Michael Penix every week, then I'm on board him, you know, with having Kyle Pitts on my team as a at least a backup because Brock Bowers is my number one. But Jeremy: Mm. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, it's to to find him on the free agent wire, I mean, that's a little ridiculous there, Dak attack. Should know better than that. Jeremy: It was ma it was Matthew Golden got the first touchdown. It was the longest touchdown drive of the year. Longest Chuck Atkinson: Score. Jeremy: touchdown drive of the year for the Packers in the first drive is ninety yards to start the game. Chuck Atkinson: No, I don't have him in the in the Riverview League. I have him in the Halifax League, so that's why they're still Jeremy: Yeah. Two catches for forty six yards already. And one's a touchdown. Chuck Atkinson: And a touchdown. So eleven points. Not too bad. Not too bad. so yeah, so how how what's your scores looking like right now as we sit here on Sunday evening? Jeremy: Not too shabby. Christian Watson's already got twenty seven yards. No, but but right now right now as we sit here, I'm it's sixty it I'm I'm losing to the dogs eighty and a half to sixty six point five. Chuck Atkinson: Mm, that's a win for you. Jeremy: It should be, but and I'm playing the bandits, which I don't think I can catch. And he's done with a hundred and eight points. And yeah, I've got sixty six and a half. Chuck Atkinson: You're at sixty six. Jeremy: I I need I need fifty points. Chuck Atkinson: No, you he's at what, hundred and five? Jeremy: It Chuck Atkinson: What is he at? Hundred and eight and you're at sixty six. So you need forty two and a half, forty three points. Jeremy: He's at a hundred and eight. Hundred and eight. Yeah, so I need yeah, I need forty two four out of those three guys. It's doable. It's a forty eight percent chance according Chuck Atkinson: with three guys. Jeremy: to C B S. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: It's a I I you know what? I would actually take that bet that it would be at least within five points by the end of the game. I'm not saying that you're gonna win, but I think it's gonna be a five-point game either way, whether you win by five or you lose by five. I think that's gonna be close enough where it's actually gonna be a too close to call. Just need to have C D Lamb get some grabs for you there. A little more than this one or two from last week. Jeremy: Yeah. Hopefully. We'll see. Dallas got the ball right now. So yeah, but that's the story of the fleas this week in in the review league. In in the other league, again, I'm I'm rolling there. I'm Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: I've I've got I've got ninety points with Lloyd and s Green Base kicker there, Smack. He's going tonight. Smack. Yeah, Chuck Atkinson: Nice. May I get a lovely kicker with the last thing with Smack, right? Yeah, that's right. Jeremy: and I'm beating I'm beating the bandits over in this s or the no, it's it's Joe Strait there, the Pirates. And and the bullies. But that if I can pull off another two wins here, Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: I'm gonna be eight and four. So you got some competition over on this side. And and and it's Chuck Atkinson: Nice. All right. And I believe I'm Jeremy: still the year of the fleas, of course, in the review side. Chuck Atkinson: It doesn't matter. It's that statement is is it's wide varying for both leagues. It's Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: one or the other. It's the year of the fleas. what's I I think right now in in the Riverview League I'm at what? should be around seventy five? Seventy five, yeah. Jeremy: The review league you're you're sitting at seventy five points. You're you're a thirty percent chance to beat the Pythons at this point. But you've got Purdy McCaffrey to go. Yeah, it's Chuck Atkinson: Thirty. And does he have anybody left? Jeremy: he's got Matthew Golden going right now with eleven points. Doesn't that kill ya when Chuck Atkinson: that's I'm not that excited for a touchdown then 'cause it's Jeremy: you have Golden playing against ya and for ya at the same time? Or any player for that matter? Chuck Atkinson: and you know what, I really don't need I and I really probably I don't think I really need the points in the Halifax League because of the ass kickings I'm delivering over there. I don't think Jeremy: huh. Chuck Atkinson: because I have McCaffrey and Purdy going tomorrow night. So I feel if I had Golden at least, you know, throw a five burger or or minimum, max ten. Jeremy: no, on the Halifax side, you're you're doing alright. It's he's helping you though right now. But you've you've already beaten you've Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, in the Halifax, but I don't really need it. Jeremy: you you've pretty much already beaten Luke. Chuck Atkinson: Right. Jeremy: And you're up ninety to seventy and a half over the Pirates and he's just got Kittle to go. So you y Chuck Atkinson: Right. And I got pr I got Purdy and McCaffrey. So I don't need Matthew Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Golden and his any of his points tonight is what I'm getting at. Because it's gonna just hurt me in the Riverview Jeremy: The fools Chuck Atkinson: League and not help me any in the Halifax League because I already got those two locked up. So if he wants to throw Jeremy: Yes. Yeah, so in Chuck Atkinson: a if he wants to throw a shit burger the rest of the way, I'm completely fine with it. Jeremy: You're also taking on Tyler today in the Riverview League. The K the Kryptonians are he he's seven and three, but he's got sixty one Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, I dog walked his ass though. Jeremy: only got sixty one points and all he's got left is Kittle himself. He didn't have a very good day. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Mm. yeah. I took him out behind the woodshed and had my way with him. Jeremy: Bucky Irving only had a big five points today. Yeah. And Chuck Atkinson: Hey, Jeremy: Bijan had seven. I know what that's like when your star stars got they don't put up much Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: points, it hurts. Chuck Atkinson: It happens it happens to the best of us, not as much to me. But you know I know it happens to you guys. It's Jeremy: But Robinson is playing the Bears. So the Bears like Chuck Atkinson: the it's yeah, it's the bears. It's not the n it's not the eighty five bears. You Jeremy: It's true. Chuck Atkinson: know, they they still manage to come back and put twenty four or twenty five points on them. yeah. There's some guys just You know, they have an off day. Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Jonathan Taylor had an off day a couple weeks ago, it happens. you and I both played each other what last week or the week before? It was seventy-five to sixty. So a lot so a lot Jeremy: Yeah. Like what? Chuck Atkinson: of our guys had off days that day. I just had, Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: you know, the the least amount of guys who had off days that day, that's all. Yeah. Jeremy: It's all right. I'm happy to see if I can beat the Sea Dogs and come back on that one. They're they're six and four. They're a team that's ahead of me, so even if I can get w go one and one this week and beat the Sea Dogs, it helps my cause. So Chuck Atkinson: Are they in your I think they're in my division. Are they not or yours? Jeremy: they're in maybe they are in your division. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, 'cause I got the pythons, the dogs, myself and the upper deckers if I'm not mistaken. One through four. Yeah, I think you have Tyler, you have Tyler in your division. that's right, the picks. Yeah. Yeah, I know. Jeremy: Yeah, it's well the picks. Remember the picks? The picks again. Leading the division, buddy. And we we we were talking smack about them to start the year and he looks pretty good. Three qu three good quarterbacks. Yeah. But he Chuck Atkinson: Well, my smack talk on him was the the amount of quarterbacks that he carries every year. That's right. he's afraid to go to the mall without losing losing without losing a quarterback. Jeremy: He's sitting at seven and three, so it's the picks, the sea dogs, the X Factor are tied per second at six and four. Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Yep. Jeremy: And then the five and five upper deckers, Pythons, Oilers sitting at two and eight in your division. Over on my side, I got the seven and three Kryptonians leading the way. Dak attack and the OnlyFans at six and four per second. And the bandits and I tied at four and six. And the Rangers at three and seven. Chuck Atkinson: See I feel like my my early season preseason, too early to call preseason rankings, are are pretty much other than the picks are you know surprising the both of us. I probably Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: say my my rankings are pretty spot on. They they are because I remember having the Sea Dogs up there. the Tyler, I told you about Tyler's team, how good his team was. that they he was gonna be something to deal with. And he's first in his division, so. Jeremy: Yeah. Yeah. Well he's about to take two losses this week's gonna knock him down a notch. Chuck Atkinson: And of course the X factor up there. What's that? Jeremy: He's about to take two losses this week's gonna knock him down a notch. He'll still be in first Chuck Atkinson: Well listen Jeremy: probably unless the Dak a what the Dak attack doing in the fins. See? Chuck Atkinson: he Zach attacks doing nothing this week. He's getting smoked. So I think the Finns are gonna t the Finns are gonna Jeremy: Dak, and what about the fins? Chuck Atkinson: hop over into first this week, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah. Jeremy: Yeah. yeah, he's putting up one hundred and eleven points right now. He's done. No, he's got Chuck Atkinson: Defends ya. Jeremy: he's got Javante Williams playing right now. Still. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, the Finn's yeah, he's got a pretty solid lineup, hard not to, like we've mentioned before with Jamar Chase and JSN. he can fall asleep and walk into a hundred points. Jeremy: Yeah, you n and JSN with nineteen points. Loveland had fifteen points today. Kamara put up thirteen. Nobody did anything Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: crazy. His kicker had seventeen points for crying out loud. McLaughlin. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, not like not a lot of guys. Like we're not having there there hasn't been too many Jeremy: So buddy. Chuck Atkinson: weeks where where players have just blown up, like had that that thirty, forty, fifty point game yet. Jeremy: No no, but he's got his all his point all he's only got everybody but two guys in in the teens and points this week, so Steady Eddie. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. No, he's got a he's got a he's got a kick ass lineup. Jeremy: It's pretty tough lineup, but it's none of the lineups are gonna be any good when they hit the fleas in the playoffs. So it's not Chuck Atkinson: Ha ha ha Jeremy: It doesn't matter. We're talking playoffs. Playoffs That's right. Playoffs Chuck Atkinson: Now, now we don't like this too too early to call, too early to call. now you're on our on our platform there, CBS. If you go to standings and go down to playoff race, and you look at the the the one Jeremy: Yeah, yeah. Yeah yeah. You wanna see that? Chuck Atkinson: through eight and then you give us the bottom four. Give us the bottom four, Jar. Who's who's on the outside looking in as we speak today? Jeremy: You don't want the bo you don't want the okay. The bottom four. Chuck Atkinson: Well, I I I well, I think I that's why I'm trying to educate our audience. You know, we all wanna know who's on the bubble looking Jeremy: Well, Chuck Atkinson: in. Jeremy: it has me at the the first bubble team right now. And then Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: you have the pythons, the rangers and the oilers. But I'm literally sitting tied with the eighth bubble team. We have a tied record. Chuck Atkinson: Ha ha ha. Jeremy: And I'm only one point away from being ahead of the upper deckers in seventh. So this is n no far from being a lost cause. Far from being a lost cause. Chuck Atkinson: No, and as late listen, you gotta you gotta look at it like this. I look at fantasy football and any kind of fantasy sport. If I can come out with a one one split at the very Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: least, on on the on the weekends, that's great. two and that's that's your expectation. But one and one, yeah. If you can do Jeremy: Well Chuck Atkinson: one and one and chip away a couple of wins here and there, you Jeremy: I can possibly get this team back yeah. I can possibly if Chuck Atkinson: Back in Jeremy: I can I can be back to six and six here this week if things go the way I'm hoping. So Jordan Love and Tucker Kraft are gonna connect tonight a couple of times, hopefully. But yeah, nope. Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. That's right. Jeremy: I'm not I'm hopeful this evening. We're not we're not talking like last week. I had no the No I I I'd be Chuck Atkinson: Season's not over. The season's not over. It's too early. It's way too early. Jeremy: five hundred by morning. Chuck Atkinson: Absolutely. Jeremy: So Chuck Atkinson: And that's the positive attitude you gotta take into your fantasy football week. Absolutely. I if not, you Jeremy: You gotta be positive. That's right. So Chuck Atkinson: may not be in the football ever you may not be in the NFL ever again. Jeremy: So now So let's let's let's touch a bit on some hockey. What Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: unless you got a little bit more to to go in the football. Chuck Atkinson: No, no. you know, fantasy football, it's it's going great. we covered everything we think we needed to this weekend. The X Factor is still rolling, the fleas are still itching, and we'll see how next week goes. But hockey time. Hockey time. How are your habs doing, Jar? Jeremy: Habs w what Habs are doing good. We had a decent week. We had we're back back to playing well. I think we were we were two and one I think this week. Yeah, that's what we were. So yeah. But Chuck Atkinson: Goal tending, goaltending situation. What's that looking like these days? I know you guys last time we spoke Jeremy: Well, we tried Dobish again and he Yeah, Dobish got another start this week and he Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: let in six goals, I think. So five goals. He just lost his confidence. He's one Chuck Atkinson: Well evay. Nice. Jeremy: of those guys. He's up and down. He's got you know, like he's got the swagger when he's going and he loses it quick. that's why I like Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Yeah. Jeremy: about Fowler. So so Fowler just he's he's he's a ste he's steady. He doesn't like seem to get up and down. He he's that's what everybody's been saying about this kid. Like Faller's r Fowler is really gonna be our guy. He's he's Dobush is good. And but Fowler is really the guy, I think. Fowler's Fowler's awesome. And he's just young and he's just getting going. Chuck Atkinson: Well I I think it can go either way still. It's too early to call. Jeremy: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: you and I both know that goaltending and goaltender state of mind they're they're it's Jeremy: I do, but I've been following Fowler for like the last four years. Like the the like Pierre Maguire, all the b like they're all very high on on Fowler. But Dobish Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: Dobish is gonna be good. He wasn't drafted as high and and he wasn't like he but he's a he's a really good kid and he had a great a great playoff for us last year. Chuck Atkinson: But there's a r but there's a reason why they signed him at three years ago, wasn't there? Jeremy: Yeah, yeah. No, he's good. What we want him there. And but Fowler's younger. Fowler We were hoping I think that Dobish could play well and Monty would back him up for most of the year and Fowler could get some more experience in the HL. But it it Monty got hurt. Dobus hasn't played well, so Fowler's had to play. Fowler came in and played last year really good. You gotta watch the guy. He just he's like he's like price. Chuck Atkinson: Now, how how many games into the season are we now? Jeremy: we are well, we're three, three and one, so we've played nine games. No. yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Seven. Jeremy: Seven. No, I play we've played eight games. Sorry, we're four three and one. Chuck Atkinson: Okay, so eight games into the season. I I think this would fall under the c I think honestly I think Jeremy: There's all there's already talk about goalie controversy. Chuck Atkinson: this falls into the category of overreaction on the on the on the part of Dobish thus far. Jeremy: Well, he's given up like twenty one goals in four games, dude. and he's gonna be great the rest of the year. I'm I'm not worried about him. He just g Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, I get it. I get it. How how long how how long is a preseason in hockey nowadays? I hear coaches don't Jeremy: Three games. Chuck Atkinson: even want three games. And Jeremy: And we're not well it was actually four. They played two split squad game they played split squad games, so all on the same day. Chuck Atkinson: Okay, spl split squad game. So really you're playing two real games against NHL caliber players on a nightly basis. so out of those two games he probably played one of them, maybe. And yeah. Jeremy: Dobush? Yeah, well he wasn't they were trying to see what Monty was about and they weren't worried about Dobish. So And Dobish isn't I'm like I'm saying Dobish is fine. But he was never intended to be our number one goalie. Fowler, the whole time, the whole like Fowler, it's like when we had Carrie Price. We knew Kerry Price was going to be the guy. It was never halak. Chuck Atkinson: But why didn't you tell me this when I draft you should have told me this when I drafted Dobish for my fantasy hockey team. Jeremy: Well, I'm not telling you this. You're dr you're I'm just telling ya. Fowler is the guy. Chuck Atkinson: Late breaking news, we never really hoped that Dobush was the guy. Chuck, we were just telling you that Fowler is going to be the guy as soon as Dobish loses two games in a row. Back to you. Jeremy: Yeah. No, I didn't I didn't think that. I actually thought Dobush was gonna come out and have a strong year after last year and the way he played and got us to the conference final. And and I he's still that's still in there. He's still gonna fine. He's just off to a little bit of a shaky start. Chuck Atkinson: So did I. Right. We're seven eight games into a season, yeah. Jeremy: Yeah, yeah, he's just off to a shaky start. What's gonna end up is you're gonna ha the Canadians are gonna have Fowler and Dobush. As a tandem this year and they're gonna be a very strong tandem by the end of the year, and they're gonna just go with the guy that's rolling. Fowler wins two or three games, Chuck Atkinson: Exactly, yeah. Jeremy: they go with him. Dobush comes in, wins the game, he's gonna get the next game. They're gonna Canadians don't have time to like I think we're the Canadians are trying to win right now. And so they're not gonna give a guy t they're not gonna give a guy Chuck Atkinson: Well e every team tries to win. Jeremy: th four games to get his game back together. They're gonna put him in there and if he doesn't do well, the other guy's gonna play. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, but at some point though, I guess this comes back to my discussion with you in the past about fifty-fifty goaltending timeshares and and really how do goalies grow up if you don't let them grow up through the lumps? I mean I mean teams all the time Jeremy: It's not it's not necessarily Chuck Atkinson: you draft number one player in the NHL, if you're a bottom feeding team, you you take the losses as you're developing the players. That's just the way it is. Jeremy: But well what I'm I think in a perfect world, if Montreal could have had it their way, Dobush would have started about sixty to sixty five games this year. Montabeau would have started twenty, and Fowler Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: might have got five or six games in at the end and played most of the year in the AHL and everything would have been happily ever after. But it just that's it Montabeau getting Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: hurt in practice for and being out for three, four weeks or more screwed stuff up a little bit. Fowler had to come up. And then Dobish struggled. Chuck Atkinson: Not naturally, yeah. Jeremy: And then Dobish struggled. So with the guy there, you got a guy, you got your you got your kid there. You can't have him sit because he's at your backup because your other goalie's hurt. He's gonna have to play. So and then he came in and played better than Dobish. So then he's gonna play until he doesn't play good enough and Montebo's back, and then we're gonna find out what's gonna happen. Chuck Atkinson: But here here but herein lies the problem. You're not but here lies my problem is that you're not allowing Dobush to play out of this problem. You're you're you're just allowing him to practice Jeremy: we gave him four starts in a row. Chuck Atkinson: and hope that when he starts next time after sitting on the bench for three or four games in a row because Fowler's Jeremy: No, well Chuck Atkinson: playing good, that he hops in the net, does awesome, Jeremy: Yeah, but Chuck Atkinson: and then he has two games in a row. But if he doesn't play good in that one game and he comes back after being sat down from being, you know, Fowler's little Jeremy: He can Chuck Atkinson: run, then what happens is He comes back, plays one game, he gets shelled for five goals. we're gonna go back to Fowler again because Dobish isn't playing well. Well, he's been sitting down for four games, not getting any real work. Jeremy: Yeah. Yeah, but we're not we're trying to we're try we're also trying to finish at the top of the division and not struggle this year. They're trying to win, Chuck Atkinson: Well, Jeremy: right? Chuck Atkinson: that's less eight games into the season. Jeremy: You're not you're not giving the guy last year they gave Montabeau start after start after start after start after he couldn't get it going. And we still tried till Christmas or past Christmas and then eventually it was they're not doing that this year. They're not gonna they're not Chuck Atkinson: Okay, exactly. So Jeremy: gonna give that amount of time to th we gave up pro we still had hundred and eight points and we probably gave up ten points letting Montabeau try and figure shit out. Chuck Atkinson: Right. But there but there lies the problem that that reverts back to what we were discussing in the past though about goaltenders and how there's not very many goalies who play fifty games anymore or sixty games because teams aren't being patient enough, whether it's the Canadians or any other team for that matter, to develop and and let your goalie grow and develop and play fifty games, whether it's a twenty win and thirty loss record at the end of the year or a thirty win. Jeremy: Yeah, but Chuck Atkinson: twenty loss record at Jeremy: what Chuck Atkinson: the end of the year, you're you're not letting them get that growth and development through a full season. Jeremy: What I'm yeah. I think what I'm telling you is that Fowler is that guy. Fowler's our Carrie Price. Fowler's the guy that's gonna start sixty five games Chuck Atkinson: Wow. Jeremy: for us. No, that it's go re go do your research. I know y you haven't looked at I'm telling ya. Ask the podcasters. I'm just telling ya, the Chuck Atkinson: I I I trust what you're saying. I trust what you're saying, you know, that's you know. Jeremy: guy that the guy that is the heir apparent to the Canadian's Carrie Price seat is really Chuck Atkinson: Mm. Jeremy: Jacob Fowler. Whether it's this year or next year or the year after, it's that's the guy. And I and and he's just pushing it faster than like he's playing that well that they're not giving them a choice. Chuck Atkinson: listen, for for your sake I hope you're right, but I just I'm just fearful that you what you're doing at the same time Jeremy: Do you remember Halak and Price? Chuck Atkinson: is you're you're taking away from the development and and and the growth Jeremy: Mm. Could be. Chuck Atkinson: of of Dobish. Jeremy: And it might be that the blockbuster trade that I'm talking about is gonna involve Chuck Atkinson: Dobish. Jeremy: Could involve dovish. Chuck Atkinson: Which means I gotta sell my Jeremy: You know? Chuck Atkinson: young gun rookie card because you know it's not gonna be worth anything and if you play them from Control Canadian. Jeremy: He might maybe he's going to Edmonton and we're gonna get Leon Dreisidel. I haven't seen although they're got they got they're getting goaltending right now. Chuck Atkinson: Is that a mape leaf on your hat or a marijuana plant on your hat? I can't tell. Jeremy: No, but they might they may be they are th but I'm thinking they're gonna trade. I don't think they're trading Dobush actually. They're they're gonna be trading they're trading Monty. No, and they're trading Montembeau. But well I don't wanna see them play with three I don't wanna see them play with three goalies. It's twenty twenty one. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: No, you just gave him a three year contract. You just gave him a three year contract. I mean, you can't do that. You're putting all your what How how how old is Fowler right now? Twenty-two? Twenty-one. Yeah, I'm not putting my franchise's faith in twenty-one year old goaltender. not when the NHL is track predicted. Jeremy: Well Dobitch is the same a Dobish is that old Dobish is just kid too. They're both they're both in the same situation. Chuck Atkinson: Well, he's he dobush is what, twenty three, twenty-four? What he is, he's a guy who has more miles on his body and more NTL experience than than Fowler does. Is I guess is what I'm getting at. Jeremy: Not much. Jacob Dobus just came up and played with us last year. Fowler played Chuck Atkinson: Well, if I go by play if I go by experience, I go by what at the last year's playoffs, the regular season last year, the year prior. Jeremy: Okay. Just for just for instance, well this Chuck Atkinson: Mm. Jeremy: year alone they've both played four games. Fowler's three and one with a nine hundred save percentage, goals against average of two point one six, and Dobish is sitting at eight forty two with a goals against average of four point six three to start the year. Like it's they're not Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, and I guarantee you, and I guarantee it in the history of Patrick Waugh's career, if you go back to any start of any season, you'll probably find an eight game stretch where he had just as well shitty numbers that Dobish had and they didn't bail on him. It's this is this is this is this is my thing with sports though Jeremy: No, they're not bailing on d but what you're Chuck Atkinson: in today's day and age though, Jer, is that it's a what have you done for me lately sport. Jeremy: I think you're just trying to argue with me, but it doesn't like you I don't think I'm telling ya. I've I I've had Chuck Atkinson: No. Jeremy: my I've been watching the halves every game for a long time and you're just tuning back into hockey. I'm telling ya, Fowler's gonna be the guy. Chuck Atkinson: It I'm I'm not trying to argue with the Habs fan. Every Habs fan thinks they're trying to be to argue with. You're like a Toronto Maple Leaf fan. You know, the sun does come up tomorrow if your team loses. You know, the the goaltender can the Jeremy: We have what Chuck Atkinson: goaltender can start three in a row if he loses two in a row. Jeremy: What what the Canadians actually have is two really good young goaltenders. Like Chuck Atkinson: Hey, do you wanna trade one to Detroit? We'll give you Larkin. Jeremy: No Chuck Atkinson: Well well then what are we talking about then? Don't say Montabo. We don't want that. We don't want your third Jeremy: Well maybe you could have maybe you have Dobish. Yeah, e we'll trade you Montenbow. Chuck Atkinson: string leftovers, okay? No. You give Jeremy: Hmm. Chuck Atkinson: us Fowler or we give you nothing at all. Jeremy: Yeah. But Fowler's Fowler's twenty one and Dobush is twenty five. So that's what that's but Dobish Chuck Atkinson: Well, twenty five. Jeremy: Yeah, but Dobish has only made himself into the NHL at at twenty four. That's how like Fowler's the phenom and Dobush is a really good goaltender that's worked his way to the NHL. That's the difference. Chuck Atkinson: What's Fallers what's what what's what's Dobish's history like his last three seasons? Jeremy: he's played he'd played with NHL. Chuck Atkinson: In the NHL, yeah. Okay. Jeremy: He A Joe. Chuck Atkinson: AHL. So he was going through a development is what you're saying. To get Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: to the number one spot in Montreal. Only for only Jeremy: Well, no. Never he he he was he was always one of our goalies in our system. I'm serious. He was never he's surprised the Canadians. He's better than we thought. He's Chuck Atkinson: I wish we'd been doing this show four years ago when they get draft when he drafted Montreal drafted Dobush. Because I know at some Jeremy: I Chuck Atkinson: point in the last four years, a conversation would have come out of your mouth saying Jeremy: Nope. Chuck Atkinson: Dobish is the shit. He is the next hope. And then Jeremy: No, it wouldn't have. It didn't. Chuck Atkinson: this Fowler kid comes along and you're all gravied up over him until Montreal drafts another goalie in three years, and he's gonna be the next great carry price. Jeremy: Anyway, would you you you after this you can go read and see what the world thinks about the both goalies. Like I'm see like it's not a it's not like I'm I'm not breaking any news. Chuck Atkinson: I'm messing with you. Jeremy: Like this is I'm not like this isn't like groundbreaking things I'm saying. Like this is what Chuck Atkinson: I Jeremy: this is what most of the you Chuck Atkinson: Pudents. Jeremy: know, this is what Eric Engels and and and and and Pierre Maguire and those guys all say about Yacob you know the two goalies about but Fowler I'm Maguire's been telling me about Fowler Chuck Atkinson: What about what about hey hey what about what about Elliot Friedman? What what about Jeremy: since he's been sixteen years old. Like McGui Maguire's I've been talking about Fowler for a long time, man. It's like Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, but does Elliot Friedman. Jeremy: Dobush just kinda came onto the scene. He was a guy we drafted, where did we draft Dobish? Like Chuck Atkinson: Does does does Elliot Friedman tell you that that that same stuff too? Jeremy: Elliot Friedman. Chuck Atkinson: This is another Alfred Hitchcock production Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: the wings are you know the wings let's change the channel on the hockey for a second. We'll we'll stop ri we'll stop we'll stop riding the Habs there. w to which I I I playfully joke with Jerry because as I mentioned, it's so exciting getting a Habs or Jeremy: So Well just give you one last little one last little tidbit. Yeah. But what one last tidbit. Chuck Atkinson: a Leafs fan riled up. Jeremy: One one last tidbit. Jakob Dobish was drafted in the fifth round, 136. Like he was never drafted and we were like, this guy's he was a g he's a goalie that we drafted. And Jakob d or and Jacob Fowler was drafted sixty ninth overall. Like he w there were ne we were always Chuck Atkinson: Dude, dude, what does that matter? Tom Brady was drafted in the sixth round. Brock Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant. You find gems where you find gems. You find gems where you find gems Jeremy: No, it doesn't matter. We got gems and Dobush is Chuck Atkinson: and your plans your plans change. It doesn't matter where the draft capital comes from. It doesn't. Jeremy: Yeah, well if Fowler sucks, we've got Dobish. Like, but I don't I don't know. Ha probably not happening. Chuck Atkinson: Not if you tr not if you trade to the Red Wings for Larkin. Well, stop asking people for a second line center then. But the wings had a good week, according to you. They and according to the stat you know, the Jeremy: The wings did have a good week. Chuck Atkinson: schedule, they went two and one. Jeremy: Yeah, they lost to New Jersey in overtime. They beat Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: the Flyers two to one and then they they beat San Jose in a shootout l last night, I think. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: That's right. That's right. We take teams to the limit, folks. Not just any teams, the bottom peters. That's right. Jeremy: No. San Jose's not a bottom feeder. Chuck Atkinson: Well, they're not exactly, you know, turning out the lights right now either. Jeremy: Well they're they're enough they're they're a good team, that's that's gonna be good, so Chuck Atkinson: They're young. They're still young. Where where they at Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: in the standings anyways? I don't think they're are they're all that near the top by any stretch of the imagination. Jeremy: San Jose's fourth in the Pacific. They're four three and one. Chuck Atkinson: Okay. But yeah, no sell hey, Celebrini's awesome. Love that Will Smith kid there they have as well. That's a nice pandemic. Jeremy: Yeah, they're they're Chuck Atkinson: Nice they have a great tandem there, those two for the next 10-15 years, hopefully. yeah. McDavid Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: had a five point night there last night, I believe it was. Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: he's he's doing McDavid things again. So you know, hockey's looking great. You know, the tops it's always fun when you have a lot of high scoring games, unfortunately. To the detriment of guys like Yakit Dobish. you don't want the high scoring games 'cause it apparently ruins people's careers. And yeah. Montreal. Jeremy: I think you're making controversy where there is. I'm not even thinking there's I think that they're just gonna have two great goalies. Chuck Atkinson: Hey, conch hey, as as a as a wise man once said, controversy creates cash. If you know the answer to that, good for you. Jeremy: Like Fowler looks like he's gonna live up to his expectation and Doba's come out of nowhere, so now we've got two great goalies. Kind of it's the same kind of Chuck Atkinson: Absolutely. Jeremy: idea as reminds me of Price and Halak. We it's Halak had a great like fourteen year career. He played a long time in the NHL and we had to make a decision at one point which guy we were going with, and we took the guy that had the pedigree. And it worked out well. Chuck Atkinson: Well, you took the Canadian kid, let's be honest with you. You did you took the Canadian you weren't gonna take the Russian over the Canadian kid. Let's be real about it. Jeremy: Well, we never we drafted Price third overall, as if we were not gonna carry on with Price. And look what he did. He's a Hall of Fame goaltender man. So we Chuck Atkinson: absolutely. But was there any question though? I know there was a period of time when they were trying to figure out you know what I'm talking about, because they were talking, should we keep price, should we keep halak? And then there was no question. There was just pandering. Jeremy: Yeah, yeah, that was big. I was always in the price camp. I was in the price camp all the time. But there was a lot of people that were pissed off when they traded Halak 'cause he had such a great he took us to the to conference finals when in one of Price's first years. And Halak left Montreal and still had a solid NHL hockey career. He just retired recently. Chuck Atkinson: No, he did, yeah. Jeremy: He was a good solid goaltender for St. Louis and I forget a couple other teams, but yeah, like so Chuck Atkinson: Carolina. Carolina as well. Yeah, no, he had a he had a great career. Jeremy: You know, he didn't just fade off and go nowhere. He he actually Halak was a good goalie. He was small though. That was his one that was his little bit of a fault. But Dobish is not small. Dobish is big kid and he's like we got a good goalie Dobish. Chuck Atkinson: One of the rare goaltenders who actually had a fifteen year career. There's just not many of those guys that have a fifteen Jeremy: Who's that? Halak? Chuck Atkinson: year career goaltenders nowadays. Actually, whether you're Jeremy: Yeah, man. Chuck Atkinson: a starter that turned into a backup or maintain starter status or be a fifty fifty split. fifteen year careers in goaltending, it's it's a hard get nowadays. Jeremy: So, you know, kudos to Yaroslav Halak. He that but that Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, absolutely. Jeremy: was that was a c like we had two stud goaltenders, man, had to make you know, had to make some sort of decision and Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: that's what happened. And I think we're kinda in the same spot, but I'm hoping that we don't make a decision and we ride those two guys for three years. Chuck Atkinson: Well, you don't need to, right? 'Cause you got you get Dobish for three years at Jeremy: Very Chuck Atkinson: least at the minimum and Fowler is on a rookie contract. So there's no rush Jeremy: Yeah. So Chuck Atkinson: and it really the ball's in your court, the Montreal Canadian's court as far as your goaltending goes for the next five years. Jeremy: So I I like our situation with that. And I think we can we can win with probably either one of them and yeah. Chuck Atkinson: definitely. And I I I still stand by my pick that you know, the guys are gonna be in I don't did I I don't know if I predicted the Stanley Cup finals. Maybe I did. but definitely in the conference final picture. Absolutely. I still think you guys are gonna show up there. I know it's way, way too early. Jeremy: we're gonna get cooking. Chuck Atkinson: Eight games don't make a season, so Jeremy: And Mr. Saturday night's already at it, man. It's just Unreal. No, Mr. Saturday night. I was telling ya. Chuck Atkinson: Mr. Saturday night. Yeah, he's not talking about Will Farrell, folks. Yeah, who are you talking about? Jeremy: Caulfield. I mean everybody knows the goal Caulfield is he he he loves the stage. Look that Chuck Atkinson: He does. Jeremy: I I think I think he's got dude, he's got sixty six goals. on Saturday night so far in his career in a hundred and six hockey games. That's sixty two Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: percent of the time he's scoring on a Saturday night. It's unreal. Thirty eight goals. Chuck Atkinson: How many career goals does How many career goals does he have? Jeremy: he's got Caulfield has I don't know, he scored fifty last year. I can tell ya, but the kids s six Chuck Atkinson: But you said you said he's had sixty two goals thus far on Saturday night hot or Jeremy: sixty six of them have come on a Saturday night for the Canadians. Yeah, and he Chuck Atkinson: Sixty six in a hundred games. Jeremy: has a total of a hundred and seventy four goals scored in his career. So Chuck Atkinson: So just under what? Jeremy: He's played Chuck Atkinson: Third. Jeremy: three hundred and seventy six games, one hundred and seventy four goals scored, three hundred and thirteen points. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, so just under a third, just over a third of his goals are on Saturday night. Jeremy: Yeah. So that's Chuck Atkinson: Nice. Jeremy: to me that's impressive. He's earned the name Mr. Saturday night. It's wild. Chuck Atkinson: Mr. Saturday night. Jeremy: Even the that's what the announcers call him. And last night it was is overtime again, like just like big time co you know, Caulfield's freaking awesome. And they all said he could we drafted him what, like thirteenth or fourteenth 'cause nobody he was too short. Well the guy just scores goals. And Chuck Atkinson: That's what the state and that's what the state is hockey. That's what the state is hockey's all about is speed and skill. So Jeremy: Yeah. And Chuck Atkinson: Montreal doesn't matter. They don't look at, you know, the the the height of the player. They don't care if you're two hundred and twenty pounds or a hundred and seventy pounds. if you can skate and you got skill, Montreal's gonna find ya. Jeremy: Well, Gallagher had a fourteen career year career with us and he's gonna play a year Chuck Atkinson: Right. Jeremy: in Vancouver, but I don't know how much longer he's got. But fourteen years at however tall he was, was not very tall. Chuck Atkinson: Suzuki as well, he's a short guy. Jeremy: He's bigger, but he's not a big guy. He's but he's bigger than those guys, but he's still But we've got we finally got some size. Chuck Atkinson: Well I thought Suzuki was in the five n I thought he was in the five nine, five ten range, Suzuki. Jeremy: Yeah, he's probably he's probably about there, but he still looks quite a bit taller when you stand him beside Gallagher and in Caulfield. Chuck Atkinson: No cough, okay. Jeremy: Yeah. Like we s like Caulfield, I don't know how tall he is, but he's not very tall. He he's quite short. Yeah. But and we finally got Chuck Atkinson: But he plays he plays big. He plays bigger than his stature, though. He does. He's he's an awesome player. Jeremy: some some size there with Slaugh. But he's gotta start playing with it. But anyway th back to the Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. No, it's hockey season's rolling right along. long long ways to go, like we say, you know, it's too way too early to call. especially the hockey season being eighty two games. Is it eighty two still or eighty four? Eighty four, okay, so it's way too F and early to call. we're only a ninth of the way through the season. What what's that? Jeremy: Eighty eighty-four now, man. They just increased it this year. They got rid of two they they wanted to get rid of some preseason games. They they wanted to get rid of a couple preseason games, and the only way the NHL would do it would be by so they got rid of preseason games, attacked them on the on the regular season. Because the players want to play games that mean something, so I guess. But the NHL didn't want to lose revenue of two preseason games, apparently. So they turned them into regular season games. I'm serious. That Chuck Atkinson: my god. player safe it doesn't matter the league. Player safety is the biggest illusion in sports. it it's crazy. It's absolutely wild that the NHL and NFL they talk about player safety and concussions and reducing the risk and all this junk. And then what do we do? Well, we're gonna take out less meaningful games to make more meaningful games. In which the guys who don't play in the meaningful games play in the meaningful games and get beat up even more. Okay, for what? For for what? Jeremy: At least they're meaningful, not getting beat up. We we lost players in preseason the last couple of years. Chuck Atkinson: As a fan, as a fan though, honestly, if the game, if the season was 82 games or 84 games or 84 games, would it really make that big of a difference to you knowing that the end of the season was over and the playoffs were starting the next day? Jeremy: I'm I'm I'm fine with taking two preseason games out and leaving it at eighty two games, no problem. Chuck Atkinson: But what if they said to you, Jer, it's too dangerous, we're gonna go from eighty two to seventy six. Jeremy: Stupid. It's been eight 'cause it's been eighty two Chuck Atkinson: Why is it stupid? We're play we're Jeremy: forever and it's been fine. Why would you wanna d why why and you think the NHL is ever gonna reduce the amount of revenue they can bring in? Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. No, but this is but this is my point though. This is my point. It it's if we take things away from you for player safety, now it's a problem for people. Jeremy: I I don't know what you mean. Chuck Atkinson: If we give you more, where where's the fine line, I guess, is what I'm saying? Well, you know, at the end of the day. Jeremy: I don't yeah, I don't know that it was ever a player safety issue it was over. It was over just playing meaningless games and getting hurt at the beginning of the year. Chuck Atkinson: Well, no, I mean in sports in in general, the more games you add on, the more physical games that you add on. If I take two preseason games off the schedule and I add on two regular season games, the players who weren't playing in those preseason games are now playing in the regular season games. Is that not more physical wear and tear and increased chance of injury? Jeremy: Yeah, yeah. Chuck Atkinson: It it it no, that's so that's s I guess that's where I guess is a h hypocrisy when I see leagues talking about player safety and and changing the rules and all this, but we're gonna take away the things that don't mean anything to give the games more meaning and we're gonna make the game safe. But really it's it's all about money. It's Jeremy: Yeah. Well la Chuck Atkinson: all about money at the end of the day, really. So that's just my opinion on on the extra games I guess and reducing the preseason Jeremy: The other night I saw Sl Slavkowski get his bell rung and then kneed in the head accidentally by Tom Wilson Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: and and the the spotters called him off the ice and apparently there's a twenty minute test you need to do. He was back on the ice in five minutes. like on the bench. So I Chuck Atkinson: Well that's but that's just a standard that's just something standard that goes along with every game. That does that that that's that's that's that's Jeremy: Well that's what I mean, but did he go through the whole protocol or what happened? Like Chuck Atkinson: Right. Because no, yeah, that's a hundred percent and you know just like football, they they can't go through a concussion protocol on the sidelines, they have to go to you know to a dark room, go through some testing. to me, if if Jeremy: Yeah, yeah, and usually a apparently according Chuck Atkinson: if you have to be checked out for a possible concussion, you should be removed from the game out of precautionary reasons, regardless of what the result is. Jeremy: Well, I was listening to another podcast I listened to and Brian Wilde was saying that that that that concussion test is actually it's about a twenty minute test. Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: And so that's where I was that's where I kinda heard that and they were talking about it and so should like Slafkowski based on that probably should have went through that test. The spotters pulled him. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: But it looks like they obviously didn't administer the test because he was back on the bench within five to eight minutes. So he didn't Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: he did he didn't spend twenty minutes out back. But then again, when he showed the replay, he got hit in the gloves, but then he got spun around and but then he got kneed in the neck and the head when Chuck Atkinson: Gotcha. Jeremy: he got spun around. So that's where they thought he got concussed. he didn't. Like in the t he th they've played a game since then. Chuck Atkinson: Thankfully, yeah. Yeah. Jeremy: And luckily he didn't. But what they He obviously didn't go through the full twenty minute protocol, which is which you'd think that's standard. Right. Apparently that's the standard procedure. Chuck Atkinson: Is the standard procedure. Yeah. So somewhere along the lines, a doctor didn't do his full due diligence. Jeremy: Either that or he just totally did not have any signs of anything and they but I don't know how they decide. How do you decide Chuck Atkinson: You can't determine that in five minutes on a twenty minute test. Jeremy: yeah, well maybe how do you decide if you have to have the test? Like they pull him off, but then he comes off and it's like, okay, I guess you don't have to have the test. Like, how do you d Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: where where does that cause if do you know what I mean? Like 'cause guys get hit on the ice all the time, they don't go off the ice. it's just they The spotter pulls him. I just don't know how the procedure works. I guess is what I'm getting at is that I saw that I just seen that one 'cause I was watching that game and and I thought he was probably gonna miss the whole period because he was gonna be on concussion protocol and I was like, I am that sucks. I hope he doesn't have a concussion. But then he obviously didn't go through the full twenty minute protocol, but maybe they decide at at some point it's like, Okay, you don't need to go through the protocol. We just pulled you off the ice by mistake. you're fine. Like I I don't know Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, perhaps. Jeremy: I just don't know what What indicates okay, you're in the 20 minute protocol, you're going through all these questions. We're asking you what city you're in right now, where are you playing this hockey game? What position do you play? Who do you play for? Like they ask all these questions. And if you, you know, if you if you think you're at home and you're Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, it it'd be interesting to see, you know, like Jeremy: on the road, well, obviously you're not coming back in the game. or you can't walk a straight line. Like there's Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, but like there there's there's gonna be a quiet place. Yeah, there's gonna be a quiet place for these guys to go to though once they get pulled off the field, off the ice, and and and do their testing, because like you said, it has to be more than five minutes. Jeremy: Do the players have to agree to that? Do the players have to be yeah, I'm Chuck Atkinson: It's it's it's no it's it's part they they have zero control over that. It it's all Jeremy: That's what I thought. Chuck Atkinson: it's all medical related. They can players have sat there and and fought, you know, not f literally fought with, but have been very opinionated on the sidelines I've seen before in football, for example, where they're pulling them from the game because the spotter saw maybe a possible concussion based on how the player reacted. Jeremy: Yeah, and the player's like, Man, I'm playing this hockey I'm playing this football game, I wanna get back in the game. Chuck Atkinson: Right. However, we all know that athletes are primarily Jeremy: Course. Chuck Atkinson: wired to just get out there and perform, get out there on the field. I can play through anything. Well, that decision is not theirs to make at the end of the day because they are a paid employee. Right. So the Jeremy: Yeah. Yep. Chuck Atkinson: to organization has to protect themselves and say, Well, we know the history of concussions. We can't have this guy going back out there and giving us the old two o'clock. three plays later and and ruining his career potentially, right? So Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, it's a good thing they have those those guys out there looking out for the athletes because the athletes really are are gonna say they can fight through anything and play through anything given the chance. you know, minus a separated knee or a broken leg. they'll they'll pretty much try to run through a brick wall to keep on playing in order not to look weak. Jeremy: Yeah. Well, and they let and then players do players do make their own decisions with pretty much everything minus head injuries. Like and and major injuries that could get worse, I guess, but players can play with a lot of pain and through a lot of injuries. It just depends on the player. Certain players will especially certain sports Chuck Atkinson: True. Jeremy: are prone to doing that. Like basketball, I don't necessarily see a guy's playing through a whole lot of things, but Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: In hockey, we all know guys certain players will play through almost anything 'cause their pain tolerance is high. It's just Chuck Atkinson: Mm. Jeremy: as long as you're not dealing with your head, you the Chuck Atkinson: Right. Jeremy: they're usually allowed to deal like I always got a bro two broken fingers. Well, I can play. Well, they'll let you go play if you can actually be effective. But if you got a broken head, Chuck Atkinson: Exactly. Jeremy: well, they don't let you go back in the game. Like they gotta protect you from yourself Chuck Atkinson: No, yeah, I and the same goes for football as well. You know. Jeremy: a little bit, yeah. Chuck Atkinson: And football, you know, they'll let you play through just about anything, like broken fingers, whatever. Like concussions, of course, are not gonna you're not gonna see the field. Yeah. A knee. Well Jeremy: Unless you're p dealing with like back injury or something that could get worse. But a lot of times Chuck Atkinson: unfortunately in football though, I find it's one of those sports where you get like a turf toe injury. A turf toe, and that can ruin Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: your your whole season's wiped out if you get turf toe in week one. Jeremy: I had Marshall Falk way back in the day with turf toe. Ruined the season. Chuck Atkinson: Right. Yeah. So any kind of minor injuries that we think, you know, aren't minor necessarily could just be lingering enough where it affects their performance throughout the entire season. i football, you know, like we say, it's sixteen, seventeen games, eighteen games, nineteen, twenty games, whatever they want to turn it into. yeah, it's it's that's where you kind of get the professional doctors, they they gotta be like, listen, all right, we're gonna make the decisions for you even to come see your body and your physical shape. and and what we're gonna allow on the field or on the ice. because it's a long term investment. And if it means we're gonna lose you for two games instead of five or a week or two weeks, yeah. Definitely I agree with what the doctors do and say and yeah, players they they they want to be out there. absolutely. Absolutely. So Jeremy: Yeah. No, they're much better than they they were. Yeah. So yeah, so we've run like really quite long I think today. We're probably putting out about an hour and twenty minute podcast today. So hopefully you guys Yeah. Hopefully you guys got some attention Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, what, hour and close to an hour and a half, I think, for today's show, folks. so we Jeremy: spans. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, we we have we've had a lot to say today. we had a few days off and yeah, a lot going on in the world of sports these days.
