Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Ukraine and Russia have the meeting an Istanbul. They've agreed
- 0:03Speaker 1: for more prisoner of prisoners of war to be exchanged,
- 0:06Speaker 1: to be swapped. It's good news, but at the same
- 0:08Speaker 1: time you've got Ukraine bombing the hell and joining the
- 0:11Speaker 1: hell drone bombing the hell out of some pretty significant
- 0:16Speaker 1: infrastructure for Russia. Olga if Shina is a BBC senior
- 0:20Speaker 1: Russia reporter with us this morning. Oga, Hello, welcome to
- 0:23Speaker 1: the show. Hello, thank you so much, good to have
- 0:26Speaker 1: you back. Tell me what's happening. First with the prisoner exchange.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, they agreed on a quite big prisoner swap. It's actually,
- 0:35Speaker 2: it seems so far. First of all six thousand bodies
- 0:38Speaker 2: in exchange for six thousand dead bodies. Secondly, it's exchange
- 0:43Speaker 2: of your all young prisoners of war at the age
- 0:46Speaker 2: between eighteen and twenty five. And hopefully it's also exchange
- 0:50Speaker 2: of all severely wounded personnel. So possibly it's not. Definitely
- 0:58Speaker 2: it's not happening in the next few days. So they
- 1:00Speaker 2: agreed to continue to talk about this, to establish medical commissions,
- 1:07Speaker 2: negotiating groups to agree on exact lists of people. So
- 1:11Speaker 2: possibly it will happen in a few stages as we
- 1:14Speaker 2: have seen in the previous round of exchanges. But yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 2: there is at least something going on, but unfortunately it's
- 1:20Speaker 2: not bringing us any closer to the end of hostilities,
- 1:24Speaker 2: any closer to the end of this war.
- 1:26Speaker 1: No, And let's talk about that. The Western media is
- 1:29Speaker 1: reporting that a sizable portion of the fleet that Moscow
- 1:33Speaker 1: would used to launch guided missile attacks on Ukraine but
- 1:36Speaker 1: also attacks potentially nuclear attacks on other countries, that they
- 1:43Speaker 1: were damaged or destroyed by these Ukrainian attacks over the weekend.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Is that true? How significant is this for Russia?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Well, definitely, the loss even of one strategic bomber is
- 1:55Speaker 2: very significant because at the moment Russia is not able
- 1:59Speaker 2: to replicate it quickly, so even one plane, loss of
- 2:03Speaker 2: one plane is very significant. So Ukraine claims it targeted
- 2:07Speaker 2: I think six air bases. The footage. Air footage confirms
- 2:12Speaker 2: definitely that at least two air bases were hit, possibly
- 2:16Speaker 2: up to forty different planes. Russian mood has confirmed that
- 2:20Speaker 2: several planes were hait. Ukraine says around forty. So you know,
- 2:24Speaker 2: from the verified footage we can see at least a
- 2:27Speaker 2: few planes, definitely more than five. But as I said,
- 2:30Speaker 2: even though loss of one plane is important, but I
- 2:32Speaker 2: think it's also important to underline it's not just Ukraine
- 2:35Speaker 2: striking Russia. You know, Russia has launched a tremendous amount
- 2:38Speaker 2: of at rockhead and also drawne attacks on Ukraine in
- 2:44Speaker 2: the recent days and weeks, So it's not just one side.
- 2:49Speaker 2: It Both sides have increased the number of strikes on
- 2:51Speaker 2: each other's territory.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Does yeah, you're absolutely right, but this does a strike
- 2:56Speaker 1: like this put Persian in some kind of corner? Does
- 2:59Speaker 1: it make molash out?
- 3:02Speaker 2: It's a good question. But to answer that, you need
- 3:06Speaker 2: to answer the question whether Russians, especially outside of Moscow
- 3:10Speaker 2: know about this tribe, because, of course State TV is
- 3:13Speaker 2: not talking about it in a great detail. Of course,
- 3:16Speaker 2: mold Russian mood is downplaying the scale of losses. And
- 3:21Speaker 2: also we see that, you know, apart from some big cities,
- 3:24Speaker 2: the population tries to shield off the news about the
- 3:28Speaker 2: invasion because they are very tired and they try to
- 3:31Speaker 2: perceive their own lives. So do people know about that?
- 3:35Speaker 2: You know, that's that's a big, big question. And Putting
- 3:38Speaker 2: doesn't care that much about his image in the West.
- 3:40Speaker 2: He's pretty happy with the with the imager he has
- 3:42Speaker 2: already produced, and internally, you know, not that many people
- 3:46Speaker 2: possibly have noticed it at the you know, because it's
- 3:49Speaker 2: more than three years of invasion now, right. But I
- 3:52Speaker 2: think what is important is that, Yeah, of course, internationally
- 3:55Speaker 2: Putting does look not as bright as strong as he
- 4:00Speaker 2: would like to be. Of course, it's a hit for
- 4:03Speaker 2: Russian security service, especially domestic security face beat, from which
- 4:08Speaker 2: mister Putin sort of tracks, you know, where he used
- 4:12Speaker 2: to serve many years ago. So yeah, it's a definitely
- 4:15Speaker 2: big hit for his ego, but not for the morale
- 4:18Speaker 2: of the Russian population on the whole.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Interesting IgA, always good to speak with you, Thank you
- 4:24Speaker 1: very much. Og If Shina the BABC Same Russia reporter with.
