- 0:00Aloha. Wednesday morning. Trade winds are steady, and windward showers will stick around through the weekend.
- 1:38Expect typical summer trade wind weather. Windward valleys — Kōʻolau, Waialeale, Pali towns — will catch showers, but they'll be scattered, not all-day rain. Leeward areas stay mostly dry. Leeward Molokaʻi and parts of Leeward Oʻahu might see a brief shower burst this afternoon into evening. If you're heading to a leeward beach today, the conditions are solid.
- 1:56Surf is small across most of the islands. Oʻahu south shore is running 3.2 feet, north shore 3.9 feet, Maui 2.5 feet, Big Island 2 feet — all comfortable for swimmers and snorkelers. Kauaʻi's at Hanalei with moderate conditions, 4.9 feet, so watch for shore break and rip currents there.
- 2:11Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is in WATCH status because of activity at Kīlauea. Several trails and roads are closed right now — Kīpukapuaulu Trail, Kahuku Unit Roads, and the Lava Tube Bridge project. Volcanic ash is in the air near the summit, so protect yourself if you're sensitive to it. Park operations remain limited until conditions change.
- 2:28The volcano update came fast yesterday. Precursory activity at Kīlauea triggered a WATCH alert, and lava fountaining is forecast by tomorrow. Our new piece on the volcano situation walks through what WATCH means for visitors, which trails are open, and what to expect in the coming days if you're planning a Big Island visit.
- 2:45Check back on the site this week for event updates across the islands as conditions change.
- 2:49Full volcano coverage is on the site. Catch you tomorrow.
