- 0:37Stay humble.
- 0:37Now wake up.
- 0:39It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:41Look in the mirror.
- 0:42If he is no friend to me,
- 0:44it's not working out.
- 0:45Maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:47It's time to break up.

- 1:11goodness i get to speak with you guys
- 1:12every day
- 1:13What's going on Meredith, Frida,
- 1:16John George.
- 1:18I messed up the scheduling of the show
- 1:20today.
- 1:21I apologize for that off the top.
- 1:23I initially set it for eight p.m.
- 1:26Then John George made it clear to me
- 1:28that I scheduled it for dinner with the
- 1:30Clydesdale instead of for lunch with the
- 1:32Clydesdale.
- 1:35The breaks of doing things way early in
- 1:37the morning and trying to keep up.
- 1:39so we got it all corrected it's now
- 1:42scheduled for we got it up and running
- 1:45got it just in the nick of time
- 1:47but hopefully the notifiers got out to
- 1:48everybody but you all know we're here

- 1:56first don't forget to like and subscribe
- 1:59to the channel people uh that really helps
- 2:01the algorithm we really appreciate it so
- 2:04much just hit that like button or hit
- 2:06the subscribe button if you haven't
- 2:07already you know i look at the analytics

- 2:12that listen to this show are actually
- 2:15subscribers so if you could hit that
- 2:17subscribe button it's a huge help to the
- 2:19show and it's totally totally free doesn't
- 2:22commit you to anything just tells us you
- 2:25like us um
- 2:28Then next thing I've got to talk about
- 2:30is happy,
- 2:32happy birthday to Carolyn Prevost.
- 2:35Today is her birthday.
- 2:37So wish her,
- 2:38if you see her on the gram or
- 2:40any of that stuff,
- 2:41make sure to wish her a happy birthday.
- 2:45She's been such a great addition to this
- 2:46channel.
- 2:47I appreciate her so much and I hope
- 2:49she has the happiest of birthdays today.
- 2:53So.
- 2:55That's all out of the way.
- 2:58I gotta confess to you guys,
- 3:00I am really,
- 3:00really struggling this week to focus on
- 3:03anything but the Bears playoff game this
- 3:07week.
- 3:08It's been five years since the Bears have
- 3:10been in the playoffs.
- 3:11The last time they were there was the
- 3:13COVID year.
- 3:14They have not won a playoff game since
- 3:20So I am hoping,
- 3:22hoping upon hope that we have a good
- 3:27weekend.
- 3:28But it is a crazy,
- 3:29crazy football weekend starting Thursday
- 3:31night.
- 3:32With college football and the NFL,
- 3:34there will be eight playoff games,
- 3:37eight win or go home games between
- 3:39Thursday and Monday night.
- 3:42Um,
- 3:42so a lot of football action if you're
- 3:44into the football thing.
- 3:46Um, so super stoked there.
- 3:49Um,
- 3:49there is a college football playoff game
- 3:51Thursday night, Friday night,
- 3:53and then two NFL games Saturday,
- 3:56three on Sunday and one to finish up
- 3:58the weekend on Monday night.
- 4:01Um, so super fun stuff.
- 4:02If you're into the football thing,
- 4:04I can't wait for all of that.
- 4:10Now, catch my breath.
- 4:14What's going on, Jody?
- 4:15Kenneth, Amanda, Kenneth,
- 4:18I'll have a shot of maple syrup in
- 4:20Carolyn's honor.
- 4:22That is so nice of you.
- 4:24I love maple syrup, but the real stuff,
- 4:28not like the Aunt Jemima pancake syrup or
- 4:32whatever other brands are out there,
- 4:35Log Cabin, whatever else.
- 4:38But man, you get like pure maple syrup.
- 4:41It is so, so good.
- 4:43Maple is one of my favorite flavors in
- 4:45the entire world.
- 4:47It's probably why I'm a Canadian-based
- 4:49show or leaning show as I'm accused of
- 4:53by Kenneth all the time.
- 4:56But yeah, for my birthday,
- 4:59my wife made me French toast and we
- 5:03got real for live maple syrup and it
- 5:07was so, so good.
- 5:09I can only eat about
- 5:11a piece maybe two if i push it
- 5:14um because like it just it hits my
- 5:17stomach really bad with that much sugar in
- 5:20it but i only get it like once
- 5:23a year on my birthday so that's when
- 5:25i splurge two pieces of french toast uh
- 5:29and some real maple syrup so
- 5:34Yesterday, it's been leaked,
- 5:37and that's kind of going to be the
- 5:38theme of today's show.
- 5:40Apparently,
- 5:41there are leaks all over the place going
- 5:43on right now.
- 5:43Let me start with this.
- 5:48This morning,
- 5:48I watched Boys Interrupted Live.
- 5:52It was leaked that the Chad workout
- 5:57standard was leaked before the CrossFit
- 6:01Games in twenty twenty four.
- 6:04And they were giving Dallin crap because
- 6:06he had the standard that he was practicing
- 6:11on and others did not have it.
- 6:13We had speculated that.
- 6:15We had speculated that people knew.
- 6:17There were video out there of people with
- 6:19the box set up like what happened at
- 6:22the CrossFit Games.
- 6:24But they actually full out admitted it
- 6:27this morning on Boys Interrupted.
- 6:29So there were leaks on that workout.
- 6:34Then you go to what's happening with CBG
- 6:39and Chattanooga is kind of putting it out
- 6:42there.
- 6:46Leaks or rats.
- 6:47CBG is offering a five hundred dollar cash
- 6:51reward.
- 6:53showed it on camera um for anybody who
- 6:57exposes the leaks that are saying that the
- 7:02crossfit games athletes that use his
- 7:05program are not actually using the program
- 7:10and he's offering a reward to identify the
- 7:13rat
- 7:19Everything CBG does is over the top.
- 7:22That's kind of his brand.
- 7:24This seems like such like eighties mafia
- 7:27movie, pulling out a wad of cash,
- 7:31offering money for the rat just seems over
- 7:34the top.
- 7:36I don't even know the details of
- 7:38everything that's going,
- 7:40going on with him, but good God, man,
- 7:43like you run a business and I know,
- 7:46I know you're so over the top.
- 7:48He wears like the eighties sunglasses and
- 7:51the chains and he does the stuff and
- 7:55And I've actually talked to him quite a
- 7:56bit.
- 7:58It's just everything is kind of over the
- 8:00top.
- 8:01And then to come on when people are
- 8:05saying that there's, I guess,
- 8:07some evidence out there that people are
- 8:09truly not using your program,
- 8:11even though they say they do.
- 8:13Shocking.
- 8:14That happens in marketing and campaigns
- 8:16all the time.
- 8:19Now you're coming out, defending yourself,
- 8:22looking like an eighties mafia guy,
- 8:25pulling out your wad of cash.
- 8:27All you need to do is roll it
- 8:28up with a rubber band and say, Hey,
- 8:31I'm offering money for the rat.
- 8:34Tell me the rat.
- 8:35Tell me the rat.
- 8:36I'll give you some money.
- 8:38What the hell dude?
- 8:39Come on, man.
- 8:42It just,
- 8:44there's better ways to deal with it than
- 8:46that.
- 8:47Um,
- 8:49guess he threw a two hundred dollar super
- 8:51chat into a podcast last night uh saying
- 8:55defending himself i'm not sure that is
- 8:58everything that is the way to clear your
- 9:02name or to make people think it's less
- 9:06cringy it's so damn over the top throwing
- 9:11money at it is not the answer
- 9:14Cause that's kind of what you're accused
- 9:16of.
- 9:16You're accused of throwing money at
- 9:18athletes to get your name out there,
- 9:21to make your company bigger.
- 9:24And now your solution to it is to
- 9:26throw more money at it and just show
- 9:28money.
- 9:29You show people you have some money to
- 9:31kind of clear your name.
- 9:32And it, it's real bad PR move,
- 9:37real bad PR move.
- 9:41Um,
- 9:43But it's just starting.
- 9:44It's on his Instagram this morning.
- 9:46He did a real show in the cash,
- 9:50offering the money to find the rat.
- 9:53But if you're in this business too,
- 9:55and if you're in CrossFit,
- 9:57let's look at the other side of this.
- 9:59What has let you believe that CrossFitters
- 10:04can keep a secret?
- 10:09I think if you are in the CrossFit
- 10:11space and you watch what's going on,
- 10:14the one thing that you know is that
- 10:17people are going to talk about what's
- 10:19going on.
- 10:22People are going to tell the secrets they
- 10:24know.
- 10:25It's happened this year alone with like
- 10:28James spilling the beans about some stuff
- 10:31that he was doing with Dave Castro earlier
- 10:33in the year.
- 10:35Um, it, and I, it,
- 10:37I don't think it's all intentional or it's
- 10:39all like in a, um, vindictive way.
- 10:43I think sometimes these athletes are just
- 10:46young and they,
- 10:47they haven't learned discretion yet.
- 10:50Um, it's.
- 10:55And so if you're in business with these
- 10:59athletes and they're nineteen, twenty,
- 11:01twenty one, twenty four.
- 11:05I'm not sure you can actually release
- 11:07information to them and expect them to
- 11:09keep it a secret.
- 11:15And so to think that you can trust
- 11:19people not to talk about what's going on
- 11:23in this space,
- 11:24you're not paying attention.
- 11:27You're just not because...
- 11:30And I've been in this space since two
- 11:32thousand eleven.
- 11:33I joined a CrossFit gym two thousand
- 11:34eleven.
- 11:35I volunteered for CrossFit events from two
- 11:38thousand thirteen on.
- 11:40People talk all the time and they talk
- 11:42very openly.
- 11:43There are no repercussions for talking.
- 11:46And so they just say things.
- 11:48So if you're in the business side of
- 11:51CrossFit and you're working with these
- 11:53athletes,
- 11:54one expectation you cannot have is that
- 11:56they're going to keep their mouth shut
- 11:57during this time.
- 11:59They're just not.
- 12:02So now to be upset and flash your
- 12:04cash to find the rat, dude,
- 12:08you didn't have the right expectations
- 12:09going in.
- 12:11People are going to talk.
- 12:12It's what happens in this world.
- 12:15Crossfitters cannot keep the trap shut.
- 12:17They just can't.
- 12:18So for you to expect that and then
- 12:20to come out and play the victim and
- 12:22throw around some cash and say, hey,
- 12:24I'm going to find the rat.
- 12:25I'm going to find the person who exposed
- 12:27me because I'm Joe Mafia.
- 12:31It's too much.
- 12:33Too much.
- 12:36So.
- 12:37speaking of leaks um it appears that john
- 12:42wooley has been talking to some people and
- 12:45found out that indianapolis is going to be
- 12:47a tour stop on the wfp again this
- 12:50year
- 12:52don't have a lot of details on that.
- 12:53Don't have like when that is.
- 12:55Um,
- 12:56there are rumors that it's the second tour
- 12:58stop.
- 12:58They're going to start in Europe and then
- 13:00do a second tour stop in Indianapolis.
- 13:03And I think they've already announced that
- 13:04Copenhagen is going to be the final tour
- 13:06stop.
- 13:07So if they back down to three tour
- 13:09stops again, that would be it.
- 13:12You go Europe, Indianapolis,
- 13:14and then back to Copenhagen.
- 13:16Um, we don't know that for sure.
- 13:18Some of that speculation, um,
- 13:22But if they are in Indianapolis,
- 13:25I'm going to try to go.
- 13:27I've been dogging on them for...
- 13:30With my smear campaigns for the last
- 13:35little bit,
- 13:37I want to go see it in person.
- 13:39Indianapolis is two and a half hours away.
- 13:41I'll drive over.
- 13:42If I can't get media because I haven't
- 13:45been really kind to them lately,
- 13:48I will buy a ticket.
- 13:49I will go in and I just want
- 13:51to see what it's like live.
- 13:53like all everything i've judged on is what
- 13:55i've seen from their actions around the
- 13:57sport and on the streams i want to
- 14:00go see it in person and to see
- 14:02if it's any better um
- 14:06So I'm hoping that it is in Indianapolis,
- 14:08and I'm hoping I can drive over and
- 14:11at least catch a little bit of it
- 14:13so I can give a more honest opinion.
- 14:17Well, not more honest,
- 14:18but a more complete opinion after seeing
- 14:22it in person.
- 14:23So, uh,
- 14:25that is my hope that they are actually
- 14:27in Indianapolis.
- 14:28Now I want to say one more thing
- 14:29about John Woolley.
- 14:31Uh,
- 14:31I know he gets ripped on a little
- 14:33bit in the space, but man,
- 14:34these little mini pods he does,
- 14:36I don't always agree with him, but man,
- 14:38it,
- 14:39he really has found something that isn't
- 14:41being done in the space doing these short
- 14:45little mini pods on Instagram.
- 14:48And, uh,
- 14:50I don't always agree,
- 14:50but they always make me think.
- 14:53And they're very consumable.
- 14:54It's very easy to digest in a short
- 14:57amount of time.
- 14:59And I just want to say kudos to
- 15:02finding a different approach to things.
- 15:07There's so many podcasts out there.
- 15:08There's so many...
- 15:10media outlets out there right now to do
- 15:12something different in a short form is
- 15:15really something different.
- 15:16And I applaud him and they make me
- 15:18think.
- 15:19And a lot of times he makes sense
- 15:20with things.
- 15:21Sometimes I don't agree.
- 15:23Sometimes I don't think it makes sense,
- 15:24but I've always listened and it always
- 15:27makes me think about the situation.
- 15:29So kudos to him for finding that.
- 15:35Yeah.
- 15:42Prescott to, man, Prescott Ocigi.
- 15:48I didn't try it.
- 15:50His Ravens lost to the Steelers.
- 15:52What a freaking crazy game.
- 15:55If you're a Ravens fan,
- 15:56that had to be heartbreaking.
- 15:59Thank goodness my wife is a Steeler fan
- 16:01and she's happy for a week.
- 16:03Congratulations to your bear, Scott.
- 16:05Yeah.
- 16:05I wish we weren't limping into the
- 16:07playoffs.
- 16:07I wish we could have won a game
- 16:09and not gone in with a two-game losing
- 16:11streak,
- 16:12but we're here and we get a shot,
- 16:14so I'm happy about that.
- 16:17Chad Anufi back on the CBG guy.
- 16:19He's one of those people who word things
- 16:21very specifically for a reason.
- 16:24Yeah,
- 16:24I just don't think he set himself up
- 16:26with the right expectations.
- 16:28I really don't.
- 16:34And what's going on Lito?
- 16:38So looks like Kenneth and Joseph are
- 16:46making a deal to split the ransom money.
- 16:48There you go.
- 16:49Just be careful.
- 16:51Don't mess up.
- 16:51You might end up with a horse in
- 16:53your bed in the morning.
- 16:55Horse head.
- 16:55Horse head in your bed in the morning.
- 16:57It's hard to say.
- 17:00Anyway.
- 17:01So
- 17:04another thing I wanted to talk about, I,
- 17:06I was listening to the Monday night
- 17:07CrossFit crew, uh,
- 17:09from the WOD prep podcast,
- 17:11which is really hard to say fast.
- 17:14Um,
- 17:15with CJ and Claire and John Young,
- 17:19a couple of things I wanted to talk
- 17:21about.
- 17:22They talked about athleticism,
- 17:26which we've talked about a lot on this
- 17:28show.
- 17:29And the reason we talk about it a
- 17:31lot is I don't think that CrossFit
- 17:34actually tests athleticism very much.
- 17:38And
- 17:41And everything is straightforward.
- 17:42Like, if you're doing CrossFit,
- 17:44you're moving forward and back,
- 17:46but there's not a lot of lateral movement.
- 17:49And really,
- 17:52it's just testing skills and not necessary
- 17:56athleticism.
- 17:57The adaptability, the sprinting...
- 18:02And the one comp that always tests
- 18:05athleticism, at least in one event,
- 18:08is Rogue.
- 18:09When Rogue does the duels,
- 18:11that is the best test of athleticism that
- 18:14I've seen in the CrossFit space.
- 18:16But it doesn't happen a lot.
- 18:19And you can tell who the athletes are
- 18:23by who does well in the duel.
- 18:27When you look at the over-under on those
- 18:29logs and you see how people get over
- 18:31and slide under or dive under,
- 18:33you can tell the people that play other
- 18:35sports.
- 18:38And our birthday girl, Carolyn Prevost,
- 18:40is a prime example of that.
- 18:41She is so athletic.
- 18:43If you watch her Instagram,
- 18:45some of the stuff she does by like
- 18:47bounding over hurdles and stuff like that
- 18:50is crazy.
- 18:54But you look at like that event and
- 18:57you can tell who did other sports.
- 19:00Like Jason Hopper is athletic.
- 19:02Ricky Garrard is athletic.
- 19:03He played rugby before he came into the
- 19:06sport.
- 19:07Carolyn Prevo,
- 19:08Paige Semenza played ice hockey as well.
- 19:11Danny Spiegel is super athletic.
- 19:14Laura Horvat, super athletic.
- 19:18Tia Toomey is super athletic.
- 19:20You can tell that those people played
- 19:22other sports before they jumped into
- 19:25CrossFit.
- 19:27So I think it's kind of great that
- 19:30at least one competition, big competition,
- 19:34actually has an athletic test.
- 19:37What I miss from the CrossFit Games is
- 19:39they used to do that with the sprints,
- 19:43the sprint obstacle course.
- 19:45If you remember the famous video of Dan
- 19:47Bailey losing his sunglasses as he hurtled
- 19:50over an object,
- 19:53That was in and out lateral movement,
- 19:56jumping over objects and sprinting to the
- 19:59end.
- 20:02That tested athleticism.
- 20:04I don't think we do that enough anymore.
- 20:07the famous twenty nineteen games where
- 20:09people got eliminated because they
- 20:11couldn't stay inside their lines going
- 20:14around objects as part of the sprint they
- 20:18would step outside the lines and get a
- 20:19penalty which cost them their games
- 20:23weekend many of them the penalty was so
- 20:25severe they fell off and and could not
- 20:30recover from that and ended up getting cut
- 20:31from the games um
- 20:37That hasn't happened since then.
- 20:39There has not been a sprint course.
- 20:42There has not been anything like that to
- 20:45test that athleticism.
- 20:48Before the sprints,
- 20:49there was the obstacle course,
- 20:51the full obstacle course.
- 20:53Or Mark Phillips reminds us of Matt
- 20:55Frazier and Patrick Vellner's fancy rope
- 20:57dismounts.
- 20:58Yes.
- 21:01It's adding something to the mix that you
- 21:03have to adapt to quickly and show
- 21:07athleticism to get up and over,
- 21:09to go balance on the top of logs,
- 21:12to swing from ropes and land on a
- 21:15log.
- 21:16Those are things that we don't test for
- 21:19anymore.
- 21:21And I really, really miss it.
- 21:24And so I'm really glad that like CJ
- 21:26and Claire and John brought this up last
- 21:28night because it's a great discussion
- 21:29point.
- 21:31Um,
- 21:32And if you watched Andrew Hiller's video
- 21:36on his reconstructed WFP,
- 21:40where he looked at things like this stop
- 21:43would be a strength-biased test.
- 21:47This stop would be a skills gymnastics
- 21:51bias test.
- 21:52And then the last one would be a
- 21:54combination to test all the different
- 21:56things, right?
- 22:00And so...
- 22:03one of the things that he brought up
- 22:05was a very similar NFL combine type of
- 22:09event.
- 22:09And they talked about this last night and
- 22:11they talked about it being like each
- 22:13aspect of the NFL combine being like a
- 22:16twenty point test.
- 22:18Not sure like that was well thought out.
- 22:21If you have thirty members doing it,
- 22:22how do you split the points where there's
- 22:26not just a lot of zeros?
- 22:29But the one thing I want to ask
- 22:30you,
- 22:32is my friend,
- 22:33and I love him to death,
- 22:36John Young said that if they did an
- 22:38NFL combine and he did it,
- 22:41he would be able to finish top five
- 22:43against the CrossFit Games athletes.
- 22:48Now, I applaud John's confidence.
- 22:52I applaud his belief in himself,
- 22:55but I find it very,
- 22:57very hard to believe that
- 22:59That John Young going up against the Ricky
- 23:02Garrards and the Jason Hoppers of the
- 23:04world and the Dallin Peppers would finish
- 23:08top five against those men in an NFL
- 23:12combine style test.
- 23:20So Kenneth says, J.Y.
- 23:21is a very powerful athlete.
- 23:24So what I will give him is his
- 23:26bench press.
- 23:28Not with that pec right now.
- 23:29Apparently, the pec's not so bad.
- 23:31He said last night he actually got up
- 23:33on the rings and did some muscle-ups,
- 23:35so it's not as bad as they thought.
- 23:39J.Y.
- 23:40may be a very powerful athlete,
- 23:42and he may dominate the bench press.
- 23:45But when you're talking like three-cone
- 23:47drill, forty-yard dash, vertical leap,
- 23:53all of those other things,
- 23:55I don't see him competing with the best
- 23:58in the world at CrossFit.
- 24:01So, Mark Phillips,
- 24:06bench is the only strength component,
- 24:07right?
- 24:08The rest is jumping speed, agility.
- 24:09Correct.
- 24:10Yeah,
- 24:11that's kind of what I'm pointing out.
- 24:15don't see him like beating people at a
- 24:17three cone drill or um beating people to
- 24:20vertical i think people are going to be
- 24:22able to jump higher than john um uh
- 24:29john george john young face palm palm face
- 24:33whatever that's called and then laughs yes
- 24:35mark phillips i don't see it uh john
- 24:38gets more full of the odor he gets
- 24:43Yeah, Jeremy,
- 24:44it's the guy telling the fishing story and
- 24:47the fish keeps getting longer and longer
- 24:49as the more he tells the story.
- 24:52John is a fairly big dude too.
- 24:54So you're talking like vertical or,
- 24:58and I think they do like a standing
- 24:59broad jump too, right?
- 25:01Which actually was a games event back in
- 25:02the day.
- 25:04There's no way with his size,
- 25:07he's going to compete with some of those
- 25:09other athletes.
- 25:10He just isn't.
- 25:12I'll give him the bench press.
- 25:15He might even win the bench press.
- 25:17Probably would win the bench press.
- 25:20But I don't see him winning any top
- 25:22five in the vertical, in the broad jump,
- 25:25in the forty-yard dash.
- 25:26I just don't see it.
- 25:33Chattanooga,
- 25:33if you make it an off-season podcaster
- 25:35challenge, let's see Seve's combine too.
- 25:41My money's on Hiller.
- 25:45In the podcast world... Yeah,
- 25:51Hiller's a good choice.
- 25:56I would go with my Carolyn Priva, though.
- 26:00My Jamie Latimer.
- 26:03I think they would do pretty damn good.
- 26:05They would lose the bench...
- 26:08But Carolyn's vertical's got to be good.
- 26:10Her broad jump's got to be great.
- 26:13If you saw her broad jump onto the
- 26:15box, it was mind-blowing.
- 26:21Yeah,
- 26:22Adrian Conway would be really damn good.
- 26:25Yeah, Adrian probably wins.
- 26:27Nice call, Kenneth.
- 26:32Former college football player now and
- 26:36games athlete and now
- 26:39Podcaster, yeah, it's probably that.
- 26:43John George,
- 26:44this is coming from a guy that eats
- 26:46McDonald's on the regular.
- 26:47He would be dead last overall.
- 26:49Sorry, John.
- 26:55Well, damn, now, Jason, I'm not counting.
- 26:57If you're an athlete,
- 26:59a current competing athlete,
- 27:01I don't count you as part of the
- 27:02podcast world.
- 27:03This is just a side hustle to your
- 27:05main gig.
- 27:12Frida,
- 27:12with athletes being more and more focused
- 27:14on CrossFit,
- 27:15their capacity in something like that will
- 27:17become less.
- 27:18I don't disagree with you.
- 27:19And I do think it should be tested.
- 27:21And I do think they should find ways
- 27:23to test athleticism.
- 27:25But even at a lesser capacity,
- 27:28I think that five of them beat John,
- 27:32if not more.
- 27:41What I find cool about Carolyn is Carolyn
- 27:43keeps training it because it's fun.
- 27:45She just trains it because it gives her
- 27:47a break from her normal workout day.
- 27:50And if you have not seen her sitting
- 27:52broad jump onto a box, that's athletic.
- 28:01I don't care who you are.
- 28:04That thing blew me away.
- 28:08and to not be fearful that the box
- 28:10would slide out from under my feet when
- 28:12i hit it because of the horizontal
- 28:15momentum going towards the box and trying
- 28:19to land on top and keeping it from
- 28:21sliding while you land unreal unreal um
- 28:31chata nufi uh that video is i think
- 28:35those are thumbs up or stars stars
- 28:40Oh, bananas.
- 28:41Those are bananas.
- 28:43Yeah.
- 28:43I had to find the right lens in
- 28:45my bifocals, Chetanufi.
- 28:50All I could think of was my shins.
- 28:54Yeah.
- 28:57So then they got into this talk about
- 29:00what is the ideal body type for a
- 29:02CrossFitter.
- 29:05And we don't need to go over it
- 29:07a lot,
- 29:07but I do think that back in the
- 29:09day, body type was a big deal.
- 29:14There was a time where the Rich Froning
- 29:16body type was definitely more advantageous
- 29:21than anything else on the men's side for
- 29:25sure.
- 29:26And anybody who kind of came in that
- 29:27was an outlier didn't necessarily do as
- 29:30well.
- 29:31On the lower side, like Chris Spieler,
- 29:34on the upper side,
- 29:35it wasn't until Brent Fikowski came that a
- 29:39taller athlete even had a shot.
- 29:42And...
- 29:44hit home runs and things that weren't
- 29:46lifting.
- 29:48There was a time where some taller
- 29:49athletes came in and killed the lifts,
- 29:51but nothing else.
- 29:54And then Brent kind of came and changed
- 29:56everything.
- 29:58And he probably doesn't get enough credit
- 29:59for that because when Brent came in,
- 30:02he was a unicorn.
- 30:03He was the only taller athlete that was
- 30:06able to compete with the Matt Frazers,
- 30:09with the Pat Vellners,
- 30:11with all of those people.
- 30:14And now when you look at the field,
- 30:17it's pretty much all Brents.
- 30:20It's Hopper.
- 30:21It's Sprague.
- 30:23They're all in that.
- 30:25Even Dallin is six foot.
- 30:29And so it's amazing how much things have
- 30:32shifted over to that taller athlete.
- 30:35And now the smaller you are,
- 30:37the more disadvantage you're at.
- 30:41And it probably goes down to all of
- 30:43these damn machines.
- 30:45Right?
- 30:48Exactly, John.
- 30:50John George, what's changed?
- 30:52The continued use of an increased of
- 30:54machines.
- 30:55Brent was a true unicorn.
- 30:57Great at classic CrossFit.
- 31:01Do you think the workouts reflect the
- 31:03bigger guys?
- 31:04I do.
- 31:04I think that the more machines,
- 31:05the more power output that has happened
- 31:10with those machines,
- 31:11the more these bigger athletes have an
- 31:13advantage.
- 31:15I do.
- 31:15But to give them credit,
- 31:17they're also really good at classic
- 31:18CrossFit.
- 31:21And they're getting better at it.
- 31:24So, you know, Jeremy says,
- 31:28shout out to Chad McKay,
- 31:30AJ Bartow for leading the way.
- 31:33The problem with AJ Bartow and Chad McKay
- 31:35is that they were good at some things,
- 31:39but they didn't have the balance that
- 31:43Brent had when he came into the world
- 31:46of CrossFit.
- 31:47Brent completely changed the game.
- 31:50He was the one of one,
- 31:52the unicorn that changed the game.
- 31:55And all these new athletes probably owe a
- 31:57lot to Brent in showing that it's
- 32:01possible.
- 32:02Like you have to have that first that
- 32:04comes into the sport and shows you that
- 32:07it, that can be done.
- 32:09And Brent did that for everybody.
- 32:12So, so huge shout out to him,
- 32:16but it, it, so I don't even,
- 32:19I think the ideal athlete now used to,
- 32:21it used to be when rich was there
- 32:23like five, six to five, eight and,
- 32:26um, a hundred and ninety pounds.
- 32:28That was kind of the ideal athlete.
- 32:30And I think now we're looking at six
- 32:32foot to six two and probably two hundred
- 32:34and ten pounds.
- 32:36So it definitely has swayed upwards into a
- 32:40much bigger athlete than we used to have.
- 32:46Do I think that carries over to the
- 32:47women's side too?
- 32:54I don't know.
- 32:57I do think the smaller athletes are at
- 32:59a much bigger disadvantage.
- 33:01You know,
- 33:04I used to go to CrossFit Polaris where
- 33:06Christy Aramo-O'Connell owned it.
- 33:09She was a much smaller athlete and she
- 33:12had to work her tail off to be
- 33:14competitive.
- 33:16like for her top ten was realistic,
- 33:19podiuming was not.
- 33:21She just couldn't,
- 33:23she just didn't have enough,
- 33:25like if you saw her on an echo
- 33:28bike,
- 33:29she could barely touch the pedals and the
- 33:33arms at the top.
- 33:34They actually,
- 33:35her husband customized one moving handles
- 33:40down to make them lower and
- 33:43And when they did that,
- 33:44her power output changed dramatically just
- 33:48in the design of the Echo bike because
- 33:51she could actually get behind the handles
- 33:54to really push.
- 33:57The way it is designed now,
- 33:59it was almost like it was above her
- 34:01head to push.
- 34:03And she couldn't get the power on it
- 34:05like she could when he moved the handle
- 34:07down.
- 34:10And I don't,
- 34:12I don't know why Rogue doesn't make a
- 34:14version for smaller athletes like that.
- 34:18You know, the row,
- 34:20you can only pull so far.
- 34:22Your pull strokes are only X, right?
- 34:26And then you go to, like, Laura,
- 34:28who's five-eight.
- 34:29Christy's five-two.
- 34:31That's six more inches that she can pull
- 34:33that rower.
- 34:36And then you look at a skier.
- 34:37For some athletes,
- 34:38they have to jump to get to the
- 34:39handles.
- 34:43So there is a very big disadvantage to
- 34:45the shorter athlete.
- 34:47I don't know if we've seen the trend
- 34:49upward in the average height and weight of
- 34:52the CrossFit athlete.
- 34:55Tia is a slighter athlete.
- 34:57She's not as small as Christy,
- 34:59but she's not as big as Laura.
- 35:01She's not as big as Katrin.
- 35:03And
- 35:05she has dominated so much and I think
- 35:06she's skewing the numbers,
- 35:09but Annie is taller than all of them.
- 35:12Annie won in two thousand eleven and two
- 35:14thousand twelve and she hasn't won since.
- 35:17So.
- 35:19I think that that is really.
- 35:23I don't think it is impacted the female
- 35:25side as much other than the very small
- 35:28athletes are at a very big disadvantage.
- 35:34Christy was so tiny.
- 35:35She really was.
- 35:42Amanda,
- 35:43I've hit myself in the face with Echo
- 35:44Bike handles.
- 35:46I don't even know what,
- 35:47like Rogue is so ingenious.
- 35:48I don't know why they don't have a
- 35:51way to lower the handles for a smaller
- 35:53athlete.
- 35:57It would actually decrease the gap between
- 36:01the taller and smaller athletes.
- 36:07Corey says, jump to get to the handles.
- 36:08You talked about me.
- 36:09Well, if the shoe fits, buddy.
- 36:16Do I have a big old Chicago Bears
- 36:18medallion on that thick chain necklace?
- 36:20No.
- 36:21No.
- 36:23I do not.
- 36:28Well,
- 36:28then you would have to change other
- 36:29standards like the width and a handstand
- 36:31push up for people with longer arms.
- 36:34Okay.
- 36:35Okay.
- 36:40I find the width of the parallettes when
- 36:42they go to deficit handstand pushups
- 36:45increasingly difficult for a taller
- 36:47athlete.
- 36:48So I don't disagree with you, Shannon.
- 36:50I think that they should allow them to
- 36:52spread them out a little bit more if
- 36:53they are a taller athlete.
- 37:07Frida,
- 37:07there were a lot of tiny athletes prior
- 37:09to twenty twenty one,
- 37:10but not so many now,
- 37:11I think I I don't disagree with you.
- 37:14I think that the tiny athletes are the
- 37:17outlier now.
- 37:22And Jeremy.
- 37:23Jeremy.
- 37:30To have your rival be your first playoff
- 37:32game in so long has me very,
- 37:36very stressed out.
- 37:37I hope I make it to Saturday.
- 37:39I hope.
- 37:45Corey says, five, six, one, eight, eight.
- 37:47As of this morning, sometimes I feel tiny.
- 37:53Because you are.
- 37:57So, so we talked about athleticism.
- 38:00We talked about body types.
- 38:02I do think it's changing dramatically.
- 38:04Um,
- 38:05and then the last thing I just wanted
- 38:06to touch on is, um,
- 38:08I watched Hiller's Brittany Weiss video
- 38:11yesterday.
- 38:12Great video.
- 38:14Talk about a cool chick, man.
- 38:15That she just seems to have her life
- 38:18in order and it was really, really cool.
- 38:21Um,
- 38:22I think I connected with it because she
- 38:25had a severe back injury.
- 38:30And it's,
- 38:30it was the same one that I had.
- 38:32And she talked about how her leg went
- 38:34numb and,
- 38:38and that she couldn't even like push on
- 38:39a gas pedal because she couldn't feel her
- 38:42leg.
- 38:43And I can really,
- 38:44really relate to that because I went
- 38:46through that.
- 38:49I had the same symptoms she had.
- 38:52The recovery was awful.
- 38:54Um, it's, it,
- 38:59it really gave me a connection to see
- 39:01what she fought through, um,
- 39:04to get back to where she is.
- 39:06And it's truly, truly a great, uh,
- 39:11day in the life or a couple of
- 39:12days in life, whatever it was.
- 39:15And she's really funny.
- 39:16She, um,
- 39:19Just a great video to watch.
- 39:22It's hard to describe because to me,
- 39:24I felt like it was less CrossFit and
- 39:25more about life and balance.
- 39:28And I really enjoyed that.
- 39:29It was very different than other things
- 39:31that are out there.
- 39:32And it's kind of like what I talk
- 39:34about with the WFP and their stuff that
- 39:37they're coming out.
- 39:38The stuff that they are bringing out is
- 39:40the same old, same old.
- 39:42I tried to watch the Future of Fitness
- 39:44video from the Buttery Bros.
- 39:46Oh my gosh,
- 39:47it's the same thing that I've seen for
- 39:49ten years.
- 39:52Where this Hiller one is completely,
- 39:54completely different.
- 39:56How she interacts with her family.
- 39:58How her mom's her best friend.
- 39:59How her dad doesn't work out.
- 40:03And teasing him about it.
- 40:04It was so, so good.
- 40:06Yeah.
- 40:08if you have not seen it make sure
- 40:09to go check it out um he does
- 40:11a really good job with it and i've
- 40:15interviewed brittany a couple times she's
- 40:16she's always been fun and energetic during
- 40:19interviews um i did some post event stuff
- 40:23at granite games with her she was awesome
- 40:26and uh and it was really fun to
- 40:29kind of see a day in the life
- 40:31with her
- 40:32And kudos to Hiller for putting that out.
- 40:35Because she's not a top five athlete.
- 40:39She's not a top ten athlete.
- 40:40Her goal is to make the CrossFit Games
- 40:43as an individual.
- 40:44Yeah, she won as a team.
- 40:45They talk about that.
- 40:46They talk about what does that mean.
- 40:49But she's not like your top five.
- 40:51And it was excellent.
- 40:53You got to learn about her.
- 40:54Now you want to root for her.
- 40:56and that's the stuff that that's the gold
- 40:58that i think um not taking the top
- 41:01ten the top five all the time and
- 41:03just exposing them over and over and over
- 41:06and over and over again and we know
- 41:08everything this was someone that i really
- 41:11wanted to learn more about it was awesome
- 41:13to get to know her and he did
- 41:14an excellent job in showing us like how
- 41:18goals can be different
- 41:20And how she doesn't want to do CrossFit
- 41:23the rest of her life as a sport.
- 41:25She wants to do it as a fitness
- 41:26thing.
- 41:27She wants to make the games.
- 41:29And then she wants to ride off in
- 41:30the sunset doing CrossFit as a class the
- 41:33rest of her life and having balance.
- 41:35And it was really, really cool.
- 41:43Jodi,
- 41:43I have a slightly different opinion of
- 41:45that expose.
- 41:45But overall,
- 41:46I think she's an accomplished athlete.
- 41:50Curious to know your thoughts.
- 41:55As apparently Jay Birch wants as curious
- 41:57to know thoughts as well.
- 42:01So I just found it very enjoyable.
- 42:08So
- 42:09Anything else on the docket people?
- 42:11I'll open it up to the chat.
- 42:12We got about three more minutes and then
- 42:14I've got to get back to work.
- 42:16I do have an all day meeting on
- 42:17Thursday.
- 42:18Hopefully I can get away long enough to
- 42:20do the show.
- 42:23That's my only hiccup this week.
- 42:25Other than that, we'll be here all day.
- 42:29All week at lunch,
- 42:31even if I post it for eight o'clock
- 42:33at night, I'll be here at twelve fifteen.
- 42:37Sometimes I just get in the groove because
- 42:40my Sunday show is at eight o'clock.
- 42:41That's what I hit.
- 42:43Messed it up.
- 42:44Um,
- 42:45last thing I'm going to talk about is
- 42:46third Z, um, third Z,
- 42:49the stuff right there.
- 42:51This stuff is awesome.
- 42:53Uh, I am so much more energetic.
- 42:56I'm sleeping so much better.
- 42:58It gives me that recovery I need when
- 43:01we're doing stuff around the house.
- 43:03When I'm doing my light workouts,
- 43:06it has that grass-fed beef collagen in it.
- 43:09It's not melatonin.
- 43:10Melatonin makes me feel awful.
- 43:12This stuff doesn't.
- 43:14Make sure thirdsy.com backslash jazzy gets
- 43:17you fifteen percent off your order or just
- 43:21go to thirdsy.com at checkout.
- 43:23Type in the code jazzy with jazz hands
- 43:26and
- 43:30And there you go.
- 43:30Fifteen percent off your order.
- 43:31Easy as that.
- 43:36An all day meeting.
- 43:37Yuck.
- 43:38Yeah, it's.
- 43:41Yeah.
- 43:42It's not even for my department.
- 43:45A partner department is building a brand
- 43:48new system and we have to send information
- 43:50to them and we have to sit in
- 43:52an all-day meeting to make sure that we
- 43:54cover all the information that goes back
- 43:56and forth and that it is accurate and
- 44:00they pull from the right tables and that
- 44:02they pull from... It sounds even more...
- 44:06Yeah, double yuck.
- 44:07There you go.
- 44:08Double yuck.
- 44:09It is...
- 44:11I am not looking forward to it.
- 44:13I just got it like ten minutes before
- 44:15this show, the meeting notice.
- 44:17I truly hate meetings.
- 44:19If I didn't have to meet ever,
- 44:21ever again, I wouldn't.
- 44:25And these ones are just mind-numbingly
- 44:28boring.
- 44:34John George says, get a substitute.
- 44:36The problem with the substitute for the
- 44:38lunch show is...
- 44:40that most of my people are busy during
- 44:43lunch uh jamie is at her gym uh
- 44:47carolyn is at school and maybe we get
- 44:51corey there someday but i don't think he
- 44:53wants to do a solo show yet um
- 44:58but maybe someday we'll get him there
- 45:01we'll see
- 45:04And the other thing is you have to
- 45:05have control.
- 45:06You have to be able to sign into
- 45:07the stream yard to launch the show.
- 45:16Frida, I completely agree with you.
- 45:20I would rather see it in writing and
- 45:22write comments about it than to meet and
- 45:26try to explain these things in verbal
- 45:30communication.
- 45:31It's much better written communication to
- 45:33make sure we get everything accurate.
- 45:35But people love meetings that I work with
- 45:39and they're awful.
- 45:42Not the people, but well,
- 45:44some of the people.
- 45:46But
- 45:47The meetings are definitely awful.
- 45:51With that,
- 45:51don't forget to like and subscribe to the
- 45:53channel.
- 45:53I appreciate it so much.
- 45:56Leave a comment.
- 45:58That helps the algorithm so much.
- 46:00And one last time,
- 46:01happy birthday to Carolyn.
- 46:05Hope she has a great day celebrating
- 46:07today.
- 46:08And we will talk to everybody next time
- 46:10on Lunch with Clydesdale.
- 46:15Bye, guys.
