- 0:50SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it is.
- 0:51SPEAKER_07: Like I said, it's probably under the couch.
- 0:53SPEAKER_07: Unless your floor goes to gurn.
- 0:54SPEAKER_07: And I really don't want to look under the couch.
- 0:56SPEAKER_07: Yeah, that's probably not a good idea.
- 0:57SPEAKER_07: That's probably not a good idea.
- 0:58SPEAKER_07: It is episode 263.
- 1:02SPEAKER_07: And I guess we got kind of a lot to talk about.
- 1:06SPEAKER_07: What it what we personally, what has happened since our last podcast?
- 1:11SPEAKER_07: What was did we miss something?
- 1:13SPEAKER_07: Did we play somewhere?
- 1:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:14SPEAKER_07: We did.
- 1:15SPEAKER_07: Big time.
- 1:17SPEAKER_07: Was that be what that was before our last podcast?
- 1:19SPEAKER_07: That's right.
- 1:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:20SPEAKER_07: It was after.
- 1:22SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:23SPEAKER_07: It was the day after.
- 1:24SPEAKER_07: So we already talked about it.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: We haven't we we recorded it and then the next day.
- 1:29SPEAKER_07: The next day we went to it.
- 1:30SPEAKER_07: Yeah, see.
- 1:30SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:31SPEAKER_07: Time is just messing with me.
- 1:35SPEAKER_07: Time is not messing with me.
- 1:38SPEAKER_07: So let's talk about that first.
- 1:40SPEAKER_07: So Star City Syndicate minus the horns.
- 1:42SPEAKER_07: Sans the horns.
- 1:44SPEAKER_07: That would have been the great name.
- 1:45SPEAKER_07: Sans horns.
- 1:46SPEAKER_07: Sans horns.
- 1:48SPEAKER_07: Dang it.
- 1:49SPEAKER_07: A-A-R-P Speedwagon Sandshorns.
- 1:52SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 1:54SPEAKER_07: We got to play.
- 1:55SPEAKER_07: We played the Cross Insurance Center.
- 1:57SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:57SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:58SPEAKER_07: It was cool.
- 1:58SPEAKER_07: And uh we sounded really good.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was like, I was expecting like big cavernous sound, you know, echoing everywhere.
- 2:08SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 2:08SPEAKER_07: Nah, bruh.
- 2:09SPEAKER_07: No, the the the sound people, I mean, but and it was like, oh, you you okay?
- 2:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it sounds good.
- 2:15SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:16SPEAKER_07: Is that where you want it?
- 2:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah, okay, good.
- 2:17SPEAKER_07: We're good.
- 2:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah, you can tell these guys do this every single day.
- 2:20SPEAKER_07: All the time.
- 2:21SPEAKER_07: You know, all the time, yeah.
- 2:23SPEAKER_07: So um we, as we said before, we learned a bunch of new songs uh for this gig.
- 2:30SPEAKER_07: And we got up there, uh, we did a half hour, and we took a short break.
- 2:36SPEAKER_07: Governor Mills said her whatever she said.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we have no idea.
- 2:39SPEAKER_07: We have no idea because we weren't there.
- 2:40SPEAKER_07: We were we weren't allowed on the stage.
- 2:42SPEAKER_07: We were in the green room.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which was not green room.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: No, it wasn't green.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: It was it was cozy though.
- 2:48SPEAKER_07: Um and then we went back up and um photobombed Governor Mills, and then we performed for what, like an hour, hour and a half?
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it was about an hour.
- 2:58SPEAKER_07: Yeah, something like that.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: Hour, a little like like an hour 15, maybe.
- 3:01SPEAKER_07: Now, this wasn't what I I guess I didn't really have any expectations.
- 3:06SPEAKER_07: Um, but I guess it wasn't what I thought it was gonna be.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: I expected more people.
- 3:14SPEAKER_07: Well, I think there were more people earlier in the day.
- 3:17SPEAKER_07: So what this was was the main municipal association.
- 3:20SPEAKER_07: Um like a a wasn't necessarily uh I wouldn't know if I thought called it a conference.
- 3:26SPEAKER_07: It was um more like um a expo, right?
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: That's what it felt like.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: There were it was like there was like booths, like vendors, yeah.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: You know, places where you could steal pens from.
- 3:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 3:41SPEAKER_07: So candy and stuff, yeah.
- 3:43SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah, lots of so there were there were vendors there, and there were a lot of people, but you you couldn't really tell there were a lot of people because they're all at their booths.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:52SPEAKER_07: Right?
- 3:52SPEAKER_07: And there were people kind of milling around here and there.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: But well, most of the milling I noticed was where the coffee and the drinks and the food was.
- 4:01SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 4:01SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: Not surprising.
- 4:03SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 4:03SPEAKER_07: So um, and so we played, and you know, we did get some claps after every performance, which was nice.
- 4:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah, but we were background music for the most part.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: You know, and but we did get a gig offer after our sound check song.
- 4:20SPEAKER_07: We did, now after how I don't know.
- 4:22SPEAKER_07: Was that legitimate?
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: It's legit, but I don't uh you know, it might have been just people like, oh, this is an awesome band.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: We should have them come play at Artown.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: And then, you know, they'll forget about us over the winter.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Right, yeah, yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: You know, so we'll see.
- 4:36SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 4:37SPEAKER_07: So um, but I thought it went I thought it went pretty well.
- 4:40SPEAKER_07: I mean, after every performance that we have, no matter what band we're in, I always beat myself up.
- 4:47SPEAKER_07: And and of course it was no different with this one.
- 4:50SPEAKER_07: I screwed up a bunch of things, nobody noticed because nobody really was listening.
- 4:54SPEAKER_07: I noticed.
- 4:54SPEAKER_07: I didn't notice.
- 4:55SPEAKER_07: Um but I I have to thank you because you are What did I do?
- 5:00SPEAKER_07: You are I didn't do it.
- 5:02SPEAKER_07: Um It was Eli.
- 5:04SPEAKER_07: You know that I beat myself up about stuff, you know me.
- 5:08SPEAKER_07: Right, you know, and so I would do a guitar solo and flub it like hardcore, and I'd look over at you and you'd be like, Awesome job, dude.
- 5:22SPEAKER_07: That's all good.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: Like you I'm not I'm not making it up.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: I'm just like, yeah, man, that's awesome.
- 5:27SPEAKER_07: It's like you're a good cheerleader, you know, and and well, that's my role in the band.
- 5:31SPEAKER_07: Yeah, pretty much.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: I'm just like spirit.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you guys are on Fob!
- 5:35SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, the spirit of the band.
- 5:37SPEAKER_07: That's that's your role for sure.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Because I don't have any real musical talent.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: I gotta make up well, I gotta make up for it somehow because you guys are all like multi-inter instrumentalists.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: Well, whatever that word is.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean I play instrument, but not as well as you guys.
- 5:52SPEAKER_07: Not as well as those guys.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: Well, you guys too.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: So I gotta be like Mr.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: Hype Man, yeah, you know, dude from Mighty Mighty Boston.
- 6:02SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: You know, I gotta be that guy.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's that's my contribution to the band.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_07: So I I you know I'm like, You'll contribute a little bit more than that, but then but yeah, I think you're I mean, you're not far off.
- 6:14SPEAKER_07: I think it would be a lot different without but what was really great was watching Joel.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: Joel was smiling the entire time.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, he was loving it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_07: Well, I think he was we were playing the type of music that he likes.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: You know, but I mean he was he was loving it.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: He was laughing and smiling and making jokes.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: I was like, wow.
- 6:34SPEAKER_07: Yeah, you know, yeah.
- 6:35SPEAKER_07: No, it was good.
- 6:36SPEAKER_07: It was good.
- 6:36SPEAKER_07: We had uh we had a good time, and there's there's video of it here and there, the mostly private stuff.
- 6:42SPEAKER_07: We we we saw some of the video and the pictures, and um we sounded pretty good.
- 6:46SPEAKER_07: Yeah, we did, yeah, sounded really good.
- 6:47SPEAKER_07: So so I was uh I was happy with that.
- 6:50SPEAKER_07: Um it was a quick gig too.
- 6:53SPEAKER_07: I mean, we went down, we went down uh that morning, went to Bull Moose for a little while.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I b we basically it was like a 12 hour day.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: We went down, went to Bull Moose, got some food, went to the gig, and then laughed, got some more food, yeah, went home.
- 7:07SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 7:08SPEAKER_07: Pretty much.
- 7:08SPEAKER_07: It was great, man.
- 7:09SPEAKER_07: It was great.
- 7:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it was it was it was nice.
- 7:11SPEAKER_07: It was nice to uh go down.
- 7:13SPEAKER_07: I I don't think we made we didn't really well, we made a little bit of money.
- 7:19SPEAKER_07: Uh but because we had spent money on gas and food and stuff like that.
- 7:23SPEAKER_07: So but but it was the experience and it was we we can say we played the cross center, yeah.
- 7:28SPEAKER_07: Cross insurance center.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so yeah.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: We've played the Calm Center and the Cross Center in the same year.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: In the same year, yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Which is pretty good.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: It is pretty good.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: I think that's pretty great.
- 7:35SPEAKER_07: And I I hope that you know we can we can kind of break that market down there.
- 7:39SPEAKER_07: I think it'd be fun to play other games.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, I would like to get some more like actual syndicate gigs.
- 7:44SPEAKER_07: Yeah, me too.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: You know, yeah, get the whole band down there.
- 7:47SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I think I think it would be fantastic.
- 7:49SPEAKER_07: So um, let's see, what else?
- 7:52SPEAKER_07: Uh I sold my Taylor guitar.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, the broken one?
- 7:56SPEAKER_07: Nope.
- 7:57SPEAKER_07: Your good one?
- 7:58SPEAKER_07: Nope.
- 7:59SPEAKER_07: Your mediocre one.
- 8:00SPEAKER_07: My medium well, my my small one.
- 8:02SPEAKER_07: Oh, your small tailor.
- 8:03SPEAKER_07: I had a big baby.
- 8:04SPEAKER_07: I uh you know, I've talked to you about this a little bit.
- 8:08SPEAKER_07: I've been I've been pulling back a little bit.
- 8:10SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 8:11SPEAKER_07: Um just because I'm just kind of in a weird place, you know.
- 8:14SPEAKER_07: And so I put a bunch of my pedals up on Facebook Marketplace.
- 8:18SPEAKER_07: I've sold one.
- 8:20SPEAKER_07: Uh I put my big baby, my Taylor Big Baby up because I don't really need it.
- 8:24SPEAKER_07: I mean, I've got I've got an acoustic guitar at one school, acoustic guitar at the other at another school.
- 8:30SPEAKER_07: I have two, you know, I have a classical guitar here, I have a resonator guitar here.
- 8:34SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 8:34SPEAKER_07: I had this Taylor Big Baby that I bought off somebody for like a hundred bucks.
- 8:38SPEAKER_07: So um I put it up there for 125 bucks.
- 8:42SPEAKER_07: I thought I figured I'd I'd make more than paid for it.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: It's worth more than that.
- 8:47SPEAKER_07: And uh it is.
- 8:48SPEAKER_07: And uh I was uh it was up there for about 10 minutes.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 8:52SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and then Chris Morton called me and said, I want to buy that guitar.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: That's what you should have taken in the first place.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: I know exactly.
- 9:01SPEAKER_07: So so it took care of that.
- 9:03SPEAKER_07: So that was that was kind of cool.
- 9:04SPEAKER_07: And I did sell one of my pedals, and I don't I don't expect to sell all those pedals, but they're up there anyway.
- 9:09SPEAKER_07: Um to maybe maybe get a little bit a little little bit of money.
- 9:13SPEAKER_07: I don't need them.
- 9:13SPEAKER_07: I mean they're I don't use them all.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean if there's what is what is the rule of thumb?
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: If you haven't used it in a year, you should sell it.
- 9:20SPEAKER_07: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 9:21SPEAKER_07: So um I have a loop station too, I want to sell, but you know, that's that's another thing.
- 9:25SPEAKER_07: Uh just as I say that I'm pulling back.
- 9:30SPEAKER_07: Uh and and and by pulling back I mean um well, we're in five bands.
- 9:37SPEAKER_07: And for me, the older I get, the harder is it is for me to keep track of this stuff.
- 9:43SPEAKER_07: I'm in a buck dynasty.
- 9:45SPEAKER_07: You're a buck dynasty.
- 9:46SPEAKER_07: Yeah, that's right.
- 9:46SPEAKER_07: I'm in five bands, you're in four.
- 9:48SPEAKER_07: I got four.
- 9:49SPEAKER_07: Um I'm in four bands with you.
- 9:52SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Um we're like peanut butter and jelly.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: We have to be there.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's the way it goes.
- 9:58SPEAKER_07: Well, it if you get one of us, you get both of us.
- 10:01SPEAKER_07: So check this out.
- 10:03SPEAKER_07: So I just turned out a gig.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: What?
- 10:05SPEAKER_07: I just turned on a gig.
- 10:06SPEAKER_07: Like a private gig?
- 10:07SPEAKER_07: Um, no.
- 10:08SPEAKER_07: Like just you like singing something?
- 10:10SPEAKER_07: No, it was you and I.
- 10:11SPEAKER_07: Oh.
- 10:11SPEAKER_07: Um, and I didn't even check with you, but um, I'm like I said, pulling back.
- 10:16SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 10:16SPEAKER_07: Um, they wanted us outside in November.
- 10:20SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 10:21SPEAKER_07: Um even if already no, even if they they said that we'll we'll have you closer to the heaters if you want.
- 10:28SPEAKER_07: Oh, good, yeah.
- 10:29SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_07: No.
- 10:30SPEAKER_07: So I said the excuse that I gave was um we don't even book in December, because this is November, but that we don't book in December, and we're trying to scale back a little bit to only one gig a month, and we're already booked in November.
- 10:45SPEAKER_07: Ah, yeah.
- 10:48SPEAKER_07: So um where was it?
- 10:50SPEAKER_07: It was in Caribou, and it was uh uh Caribou's Christmas in Caribou.
- 11:02SPEAKER_07: City of Caribou's Christmas and Caribou Committee.
- 11:05SPEAKER_07: Um they want to it would be from it would be from six to nine by the caribou statue downtown.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: Now that's that's yeah, yeah.
- 11:14SPEAKER_07: No.
- 11:14SPEAKER_07: So so I I turned it down.
- 11:17SPEAKER_07: But here I am trying to pull back, and I get a we get a job offer.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: Now another one besides that one?
- 11:25SPEAKER_07: No, no.
- 11:26SPEAKER_07: You get that one.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: And then I get you you have a guy, you have a gig coming up in a couple weeks.
- 11:31SPEAKER_07: No.
- 11:32SPEAKER_07: Why?
- 11:32SPEAKER_07: No, I'll tell you about that in a second.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 11:34SPEAKER_07: So um and then our buddy James Matilla reached out to me and wanted to know if I wanted to be in his jam band.
- 11:46SPEAKER_07: Oh and I was very flattered and thanked him so much for thinking of me.
- 11:54SPEAKER_07: But again, the same thing.
- 11:55SPEAKER_07: I'm like, dude, I'm in five bands.
- 11:58SPEAKER_07: And uh as much as I would love hanging out with you guys, I'd love to jam.
- 12:03SPEAKER_07: Sure.
- 12:04SPEAKER_07: But I'm not committing to anything.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: And uh Well, that's the one he's in with uh Hotch and um uh Steve Quest, right?
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah.
- 12:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: I mean that I mean that's pretty uh Yeah, no, it's great.
- 12:16SPEAKER_07: It's great.
- 12:16SPEAKER_07: Um but I I turned it down, you know, and I said, uh like again, like I said, I I'd love to jam, but I can't I'm not gonna make a commitment like that.
- 12:25SPEAKER_07: Uh um but thanks for thinking of me.
- 12:27SPEAKER_07: And he he completely understood.
- 12:29SPEAKER_07: Because he took a break over the summer.
- 12:31SPEAKER_07: He got he left Marionette and took a break and he's looking to get back into it.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: And I think back into Marionette?
- 12:38SPEAKER_07: Nope, back into just playing.
- 12:39SPEAKER_07: Oh, okay.
- 12:39SPEAKER_07: I don't think he was although Marionette was great when both James and Steve were in it.
- 12:44SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 12:45SPEAKER_07: They were uh they were tight, they were an awesome band.
- 12:47SPEAKER_07: Still are a great band, but James and Steve left and because I don't think they liked that music as much as the rest of the band did.
- 12:57SPEAKER_07: Oh, okay.
- 12:57SPEAKER_07: Because they like the jam band stuff.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, I get it.
- 13:00SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so so they started up that's more of a party.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: I mean, and that's how they build themselves as a party band.
- 13:06SPEAKER_07: Yes, so I I get that.
- 13:07SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 13:08SPEAKER_07: So um, yeah, so I just like just as I'm trying to pull back, people God is testing me is what he's doing.
- 13:16SPEAKER_07: Keep trying to leave and keep pulling me back again.
- 13:18unknown: Right.
- 13:19SPEAKER_07: Um, so speaking of uh you said I had a gig myself in a couple weeks.
- 13:25SPEAKER_07: Well, speaking of that, what I was thinking it was is not what it was.
- 13:33SPEAKER_07: Or it it ended up not being what it was.
- 13:36SPEAKER_07: So remember a while back I'm talking about the Buck Dynasty gig.
- 13:40SPEAKER_07: Oh, that one.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:41SPEAKER_07: Yes, no, I do have that.
- 13:42SPEAKER_07: Okay, I thought so.
- 13:43SPEAKER_07: I thought so.
- 13:43SPEAKER_07: I do have that.
- 13:44SPEAKER_07: Sorry.
- 13:44SPEAKER_07: Buck Dynasty is a classic country band.
- 13:47SPEAKER_07: Uh we're playing a VFW to raise money for veterans.
- 13:50SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 13:50SPEAKER_07: Uh that is still on.
- 13:51SPEAKER_07: That is October 25th.
- 13:54SPEAKER_07: 25th.
- 13:54SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 13:55SPEAKER_07: It's a Saturday.
- 13:56SPEAKER_07: Uh come one, come all.
- 13:57SPEAKER_07: Fort Fairfield, VFD.
- 13:58SPEAKER_07: Everybody.
- 13:59SPEAKER_07: No, but I had.
- 14:00SPEAKER_07: Do you remember the idea that I had about a songwriter's round?
- 14:04SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 14:04SPEAKER_07: And I couldn't commit to it because I didn't have time to it wasn't going to be what I wanted it to be.
- 14:10SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 14:10SPEAKER_07: What I wanted it to be was a songwriter here plays one of their original songs.
- 14:16SPEAKER_07: Uh, after that song is done, the next songwriter plays one of their original songs.
- 14:20SPEAKER_07: And then we maybe had three or four songwriters, and they all play their original songs, and we just keep going back and forth and back and forth.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: Like a round table.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:27SPEAKER_07: And the audience would be there to listen, not to party.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:31SPEAKER_07: But they would be there to listen.
- 14:32SPEAKER_07: They could have food and they could, you know, they could drink if they wanted to, but but to listen and appreciate original music.
- 14:40SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 14:40SPEAKER_07: Uh I couldn't throw that together.
- 14:43SPEAKER_07: I couldn't, because there was so much going on, I could not commit to um putting that together.
- 14:49SPEAKER_07: And also the venue.
- 14:50SPEAKER_07: We talked about the venue.
- 14:51SPEAKER_07: I don't think the venue was right.
- 14:53SPEAKER_07: Um so I said, I told them, I said, No, I'm I'm pulling out, I'm I'm not gonna do this.
- 14:59SPEAKER_07: And probably maybe two or three weeks later, I had someone reach out to me and say, Hey, listen, uh, we're trying to do this songwriter thing uh as part of a First Friday thing at this place, and you were the first one we thought of.
- 15:14SPEAKER_07: And I'm like and I said, Wow.
- 15:16SPEAKER_07: I said, uh interestingly enough, I tried to get something like this going and it just wasn't gonna happen.
- 15:22SPEAKER_07: But if you're gonna you know, count me in, I would love to just sit and play some original music.
- 15:26SPEAKER_07: Yeah, great, great, great.
- 15:28SPEAKER_07: And so they they said, Okay, we'll get in touch when it gets closer.
- 15:32SPEAKER_07: And this was in this is supposed to be November seventh.
- 15:35SPEAKER_07: That's a Friday.
- 15:36SPEAKER_07: I think it's seventh.
- 15:37SPEAKER_07: And so I was gonna play some of my original music.
- 15:40SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 15:42SPEAKER_07: And that's what she the way it was billed was, you know, songwriters.
- 15:47SPEAKER_07: And so she reaches back out and she says, uh, just we're getting a little close to it, so I wanted to make sure we're all on the same page.
- 15:56SPEAKER_07: Um, I've got uh some musicians, and I think I'm gonna put you all on the back wall, um, and uh something about you can use your equipment and blah blah blah blah.
- 16:09SPEAKER_07: And so I said, Okay, well that's you know, that's fine, whatever.
- 16:13SPEAKER_07: And I said, to clarify, um, is everybody using my equipment?
- 16:19SPEAKER_07: Which is fine.
- 16:21SPEAKER_07: Um, are we all bringing our own equipment?
- 16:24SPEAKER_07: You know, what's what's going on there?
- 16:25SPEAKER_07: And I said, Who are the other performers?
- 16:30SPEAKER_07: And she said, Well, uh, I have to find out what the space is like.
- 16:36SPEAKER_07: Um if I put you all in that back wall, whether you use one set of you know, PA gear or or multiple.
- 16:44SPEAKER_07: Um, so I'll get I'll get back to you on that.
- 16:47SPEAKER_07: And then she said that the other performers are um uh I I can say that Janice Santos and Doug Drew.
- 16:58SPEAKER_07: Now those are they they play around different places here in town.
- 17:03SPEAKER_07: Um uh The Rising.
- 17:06SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah, we saw them.
- 17:07SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:07SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 17:08SPEAKER_07: And there was another one, and I can't remember who the other one was.
- 17:11SPEAKER_07: But anyway, I said I responded, I was like, Oh, great.
- 17:17SPEAKER_07: Um are they all doing original music?
- 17:21SPEAKER_07: And she said, No, none of them are doing original music.
- 17:25unknown: Okay.
- 17:26SPEAKER_07: And I said, Okay, so and I thought about it, and I was like, listen, um, I appreciate this, uh, but I'm gonna have to bow out because um it's not what I thought it was going to be.
- 17:41SPEAKER_07: Doug and I play covers all the time, and we can really play covers anytime we want.
- 17:47SPEAKER_07: Those other bands are fantastic.
- 17:49SPEAKER_07: Um but I was thinking this was an original music uh feature.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 17:56SPEAKER_07: So that w I would sing an original song, they would sing an original song, and so on and so forth.
- 18:01SPEAKER_07: Um and if if I'm the only one doing original m music, then I think I'm just gonna have to bow out.
- 18:08SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 18:08SPEAKER_07: And she understood.
- 18:10SPEAKER_07: And this is a woman that I that I've known for a little while, and she said, uh, I'm so I'm I'm so glad uh you're doing original music.
- 18:19SPEAKER_07: I'd I'd love to hear your song sometime.
- 18:23SPEAKER_07: And I'm like, you can't.
- 18:25SPEAKER_07: No, no, I'm like, I've been doing it for 30 years.
- 18:30SPEAKER_07: You know, and long time.
- 18:33SPEAKER_07: And her husband, I graduated high school with her husband, he knows that I've been doing original music.
- 18:38SPEAKER_07: Um I'm glad to hear you doing original music.
- 18:42SPEAKER_07: And I'm not dogging on her.
- 18:43SPEAKER_07: Um, she's trying to get this event pulled together.
- 18:45SPEAKER_07: No, I and I I I really shouldn't.
- 18:47SPEAKER_07: Um, but you know, it was just like uh I I thought it was gonna be one thing and it's not.
- 18:53SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 18:53SPEAKER_07: So I pulled out of that as well.
- 18:55SPEAKER_07: So yeah, I mean it's just you know, original music, man.
- 19:00SPEAKER_07: It doesn't work up here.
- 19:02SPEAKER_07: No, you can't do it.
- 19:03SPEAKER_07: Uh unless it's an open mic, and even then you're not gonna get anybody in there.
- 19:07SPEAKER_07: No, you're not.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's just this is not the place for it's you know, I've said it before, this is a musical wasteland.
- 19:14SPEAKER_07: It is.
- 19:14SPEAKER_07: It is it really is unless you're playing ACDC or Luke Combs.
- 19:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah, you know, or or you know, something something they can either dance to or drink to.
- 19:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: Or both.
- 19:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 19:24SPEAKER_07: And it's it's just it's not other than that, they don't care.
- 19:27SPEAKER_07: It's not conducive to uh to originality, I guess, if you will.
- 19:31SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 19:32SPEAKER_07: But anyway, so that's where we are personally, right?
- 19:36SPEAKER_07: Unless you had did you have any what what what you have you had you came in kind of a little like I got some some things I want to talk about.
- 19:44SPEAKER_07: What were those things?
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: Oh well, I it's just little things like um I uh my pot my interview with uh Dr.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: Bellis.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, that was awesome, by the way.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: Did you listen to it?
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: I listened to the whole thing, yeah.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that that finally came out because he's been it's this has been a long time in coming.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: You should plug that.
- 20:02SPEAKER_07: So how how can people find that?
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: Well, it's uh it's the better uh uh Better High?
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Better High Podcast with Dr.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: Matt Bellis.
- 20:11SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Uh you can only find it on Apple Podcasts right now because I try to look for it anywhere else and it's not there.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: So but it's on Apple Podcasts if you have Apple Podcasts.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: But anyway, Matt Matt has is has a PhD in neuropsychology.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: Nice, and he's super, super smart and super super funny because he's a neuropsychologist and he's also a stand-up comedian.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: He's been on world's dumbest criminals and stuff like that.
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: Does he really?
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: So he's done all and he does stand up here and there.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: But uh he's he started this podcast.
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: He was like last year, he was like, Hey Doug, I'm gonna start a podcast I know you got a podcast, I'm gonna start a podcast.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: What do you what do you guys do?
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: He's like picking my brain about starting a podcast.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: I said, Well, you know, that's all I just went to the he's like, Alright, if I do this, I want you to be on an episode.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: I was like, all right, man, yeah, absolutely, I'll do it for you.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Because he's like, music is a natural high.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: He's all about natural highs.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: So what was it?
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: This spring, he gets a hold of me, he says, Hey, when I'm at camp, when I'm at ATLC with you, I'm gonna interview you.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: But before I do the interview, at the end of my presentation, I want you to play a song.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna record it and put it on the podcast.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: That's how we're gonna start the podcast, then I'm gonna interview.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: I was like, okay.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: So I did uh Green Day, yeah.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: Time of your life.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: I did that for him and he he loved it.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: And then we did the interview.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: It's uh it's about what, 50 minutes or something like that?
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 21:38SPEAKER_07: Four forty uh forty forty five, fifty minutes, something like that.
- 21:41SPEAKER_07: Something like that.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: So anyway, so he's like, I'll let you know when it comes out.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: Well, by letting me know when it's coming out was that day.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: They came out.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: He sent me messages like, Hey Doug, your podcast is up.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: I'm like, Whoa, okay.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: So and of course I was I was work, I was up teaching.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: And uh so I I was like, I can't listen to it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: So I listened to it on the way home and it was pretty great.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: I I got 'cause a lot of it I forgot what I'd said.
- 22:09SPEAKER_07: Well, I'm gonna ask you one thing about it because So there were parts in so was it recorded in two different places?
- 22:17SPEAKER_07: No.
- 22:18SPEAKER_07: Well, there were parts in there where you had an audience.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: Well, that was the first part when uh When you played the song.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: When I played the song.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: That was that was at the end of his presentation.
- 22:27SPEAKER_07: So the whole camp was in the Okay, but that was the beginning of the podcast.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: That was the begin that was the beginning part of it.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Got it.
- 22:32SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: He gave me one of those little, you know, those little mics.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: And he clipped it to me.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: And I I I totally forgot.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: And I was like, I I remembered it when I was listening to it because I when I listened to the podcast, I could hear I could hear me breathing.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: I'm like, ah crap.
- 22:49SPEAKER_07: Well, so I I listened to the beginning, the beginning, right?
- 22:52SPEAKER_07: And and you have an audience and you do the song and they're clapping and they love it.
- 22:56SPEAKER_07: And then the rest of the podcast is you guys talking and you're you're saying funny stuff, right?
- 23:01SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 23:02SPEAKER_07: But there's no audience reaction.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: Right, yeah.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: We we moved to a conference room.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: Okay, but it was just he and I.
- 23:08SPEAKER_07: That explained.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: Because the rest of the camp had to go do stuff.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: That explains it.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: So I I told uh Tia, I was like, hey, look, Matt's gonna interview me for his podcast while we were around.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: She's like, Yeah, cool.
- 23:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: And it was like, yeah, so we sat in a in a conference room off of the uh after off off of where we were, so that's where we're recording.
- 23:24SPEAKER_07: Okay, that's what I figured it was.
- 23:25SPEAKER_07: Yeah, something like that.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: It was it was actually, yeah, it was two different places, but it was just you know it was a cool podcast.
- 23:29SPEAKER_07: I I I learned a few things about you that I didn't know, to be honest.
- 23:34SPEAKER_07: Really?
- 23:34SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I mean, I I guess I knew that you were deployed, but I didn't know that you went to Somalia.
- 23:42SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 23:42SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I didn't know that.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: Well, I don't talk about it.
- 23:44SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I know.
- 23:45SPEAKER_07: And then you you had talked about a couple things I knew about Joey and a couple of things, um, but you went into a little bit more detail.
- 23:51SPEAKER_07: So that was it was it was neat.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was kind of Yeah, you know, I was just like, you know, uh you know, because I think I made ATLC my new tribe.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: You know, so I was like, you know, because you know, I didn't have one anymore.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: So you know.
- 24:05SPEAKER_07: No, it was cool.
- 24:06SPEAKER_07: It was it was a good interview.
- 24:08SPEAKER_07: It was fun, yeah.
- 24:09SPEAKER_07: Um, what else?
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: Uh oh yeah, I was I went to the dentist today.
- 24:14SPEAKER_07: Uh-huh.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: And you you and I went to Bull Mo's and I bought we bought a bunch of CDs.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, I bought a bunch of CDs.
- 24:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I bought like two.
- 24:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: I bought anyway.
- 24:22SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: But I was listening to the uh Queen's Rike Empire album.
- 24:25SPEAKER_07: Uh-huh.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: And you know, I was playing it and you know, silent lucidity came on.
- 24:30SPEAKER_07: Remember how big that was?
- 24:31SPEAKER_07: Oh, huge.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was a huge song.
- 24:33SPEAKER_07: So it's so funny that you say that.
- 24:35SPEAKER_07: Don't mean to stop you, but so every day um when I'm at the elementary school in between classes, I get ready for the next class and I sit down with my acoustic guitar.
- 24:46SPEAKER_07: And this morning, I started playing Silent Lucidity.
- 24:52SPEAKER_07: I hadn't played it forever, and I remembered it.
- 24:54SPEAKER_07: I was like, Oh, I remember this.
- 24:56SPEAKER_07: And I I did, I remembered the whole thing.
- 24:58SPEAKER_07: It's so funny that you say that.
- 24:59SPEAKER_07: Anyway, keep going.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: But I was listening to it and I'm like, yeah, I mean, it was huge, you know.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: But I I don't but it was the next song.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: It's called um Hand on Heart, uh-huh.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: Which is way better, which should have been huge.
- 25:12SPEAKER_07: Oh, you mean should have been released?
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it should have been released because it was way better than Sound Lucidity.
- 25:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: But that that was part of it.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: And then on the way up here, I was listening to that greatest hits, Def Leopard CD.
- 25:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah, the story so far.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:25SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Um it's it's a mix, it's like, you know, it's mixed, it it all them all the songs are mixed up.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: It's not like from beginning to Let's Get Rocked came on.
- 25:38SPEAKER_07: Which I really don't like that song, but anyway.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: And that I figured out why I don't like that song.
- 25:43SPEAKER_07: Why?
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Because it's the the lyrics are so stupid and infantile.
- 25:47SPEAKER_08: Really stupid.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, because these guys were what late 30s, maybe 40s, 40s when they wrote it, and it's so juvenile.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: It's so dumb.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: I was like, oh no wonder I hate this song.
- 25:58SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's terrible.
- 25:59SPEAKER_09: I was like, man, this song is stupid.
- 26:02SPEAKER_07: I don't know why they still play it.
- 26:03SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's it's but it's on their greatest hit.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: Uh it's on like almost every greatest hits it's on.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: I think it was a big hit.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: It was a big hit, but I mean listening to it now, I'm like, man, that was then.
- 26:13SPEAKER_07: Listen, I'm a huge Def Leopard fan.
- 26:16SPEAKER_07: I love Def Leppard.
- 26:17SPEAKER_07: That song should never have been recorded.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Nah, it was it was just dumb.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: It really is.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: D-U-M-B-Dumba.
- 26:25SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 26:25SPEAKER_07: So yeah, for sure.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: That's what that's what I was thinking of.
- 26:28SPEAKER_07: For sure.
- 26:29SPEAKER_07: Uh, I totally agree.
- 26:30SPEAKER_07: Um, let's take a look real quick.
- 26:33SPEAKER_07: Uh, I I'm gonna couple cover a couple of things here.
- 26:36SPEAKER_07: Uh, Ultimate Classic Rock has a couple of things, and I thought I would do one from for for me and then one for you.
- 26:43SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 26:44SPEAKER_07: And here and and one of the reasons I want to do it for you is because you put a post on Facebook that said uh stop learning to play guitar.
- 26:53SPEAKER_07: The world needs more drummers.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I thought that was really funny.
- 26:57SPEAKER_07: So we're gonna do a guitar thing and then a drum thing.
- 27:00SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 27:00SPEAKER_07: Uh with uh courtesy of Ultimate Classic Rock.
- 27:02SPEAKER_07: Oh, before I go on, so you may notice that the last two podcasts, uh, although we promised they would be on YouTube, they are not yet on YouTube.
- 27:16SPEAKER_07: Um well for for a couple of reasons.
- 27:20SPEAKER_07: Um transferring the files, first of all, I have to say, transferring the files is a pain in the butt.
- 27:27SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I figured it out.
- 27:28SPEAKER_07: Because each video file is like multiple gigs.
- 27:32SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 27:33SPEAKER_07: And you know, if we're using Google Drive or whatever, it fills up your Google Drive completely.
- 27:40SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 27:41SPEAKER_07: Um so my daughter and I have been having a hard time finding a way to get the files to her to edit.
- 27:48SPEAKER_07: Number two, she's incredibly busy.
- 27:50SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 27:51SPEAKER_07: Uh she has the first one just about done, and the reason it's one of the reasons it's taking so long is I I think I told you this.
- 28:01SPEAKER_07: Um copyright law.
- 28:03SPEAKER_07: Yeah, twenty.
- 28:04SPEAKER_07: We got twenty copyright uh things because of the music that we played.
- 28:09SPEAKER_07: Now um I think that's hilarious.
- 28:12SPEAKER_07: She's trying to uh edit it so that it does you know, like you can take out the music from that's that section, yeah, but it would just be you and I going to nothing.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: She she should insert some like you know, some like elevator music in there.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: I think that would be hilarious.
- 28:33SPEAKER_07: Well, that's that's a good chunk of the podcast.
- 28:35SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, that's the third one.
- 28:36SPEAKER_07: I told her, I said, just cut it.
- 28:38SPEAKER_07: I just I uh you know, just Yeah, just put the funny parts on.
- 28:41SPEAKER_07: Just cut it.
- 28:41SPEAKER_07: It'll be like two minutes tops.
- 28:43SPEAKER_07: Well So I just cut that section out and she's like, Well, you do you realize how short that podcast would be?
- 28:49SPEAKER_07: I said, Well, we only talked about we only did that for I don't know, 20 minutes.
- 28:56SPEAKER_07: You know, the the hairband thing.
- 28:57SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:58SPEAKER_07: You know, it was 20 minutes.

- 29:15SPEAKER_02: It should be no problem.
- 29:16SPEAKER_07: Right, and but it's YouTube.
- 29:18SPEAKER_07: It's YouTube.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: YouTube's yeah.
- 29:20SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 29:20SPEAKER_07: Dumb.
- 29:21SPEAKER_07: So um uh I would we have to kind of find a way uh around that, what we're gonna do there.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: We just have to start our own YouTube.
- 29:28SPEAKER_07: But I will tell you uh Dugtube.
- 29:30SPEAKER_07: So what what what she will be able to do Dugtube Dugtube.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: Dugtube I like that.

- 30:05SPEAKER_02: Do you want to see my Dugtube channel?

- 30:20SPEAKER_02: Okay That'll work.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: There.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we'll start our own.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: Um we have the money.
- 30:26unknown: Right.
- 30:27SPEAKER_07: Uh uh what was I gonna say?
- 30:29SPEAKER_07: Oh, so so so we will be able to do the reels.
- 30:33SPEAKER_07: So she she can do those.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: I think I think that's her old what I think the best.
- 30:38SPEAKER_07: That's all we I like the reels the best.
- 30:39SPEAKER_07: It's just to promote the podcast.
- 30:42SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 30:42SPEAKER_07: So um so that's that.
- 30:44SPEAKER_07: So let's go to ultimate classicrock.com.
- 30:46SPEAKER_07: Let's see what they have to do.
- 30:47SPEAKER_07: Top five eighties hard rock guitar duos.
- 30:52SPEAKER_07: Before I read it, which I have not read it yet, let's think of them.
- 30:56SPEAKER_07: So 80s hard rock, it doesn't say hairband.
- 30:59SPEAKER_07: Right, it just says hard rock eighties.
- 31:02SPEAKER_07: Duos.
- 31:03SPEAKER_07: So that means this band has at least two guitar players.
- 31:05SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 31:06SPEAKER_07: Okay, so I'm gonna say Aerosmith, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.
- 31:12SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 31:12SPEAKER_07: Even though they're 70s, they had a big resurgence in the 80s.
- 31:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so I'm gonna say Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.
- 31:18SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: Um obviously Sammy and Eddie.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: I think that's them right there.
- 31:23SPEAKER_07: No, that's not.
- 31:23SPEAKER_07: Oh, it looks like well, I would say Sammy and Eddie.
- 31:25SPEAKER_07: This is uh uh Rat Warren DeMarty.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: Ah, okay, yeah.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: There's the other one.
- 31:30SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 31:30SPEAKER_07: I was saying uh and then Slash and Izzy.
- 31:33SPEAKER_07: That's those two.
- 31:34SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I would have said.
- 31:34SPEAKER_07: Oh, and the uh Phil Collin and Steve Clark from Definitive.
- 31:38SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 31:39SPEAKER_07: So those are maybe that gives them away.
- 31:41SPEAKER_07: But I'm gonna say Joe Perry and and Brad Whitford of of uh Aerosmith.
- 31:45SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 31:46SPEAKER_07: Um I don't know that I would say Slash and Izzy.
- 31:49SPEAKER_07: Were they a duo?
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no.
- 31:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: I would say I mean they're they're definitely on.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: I mean the the you know the appetite for destruction album.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: I mean it was you know yeah huge.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I mean I would say so.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: Rat definitely.
- 32:08SPEAKER_07: Rat definitely, and Robin Crosby and Warren De Martini.
- 32:11SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and then uh Def Leppard.
- 32:13SPEAKER_07: Steve Clark for Collin.
- 32:15SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 32:15SPEAKER_07: So I I was gonna put Steve Clark at Fitzground.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: I would say uh Dave the Snake and Oh, oh, and Scottie Hill.
- 32:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah from uh yeah, yep, yep.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: I would say uh what's uh uh Chris DeGarmo and uh what's his face from Michael Wilton from Wing Streak.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: Who else?
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: Who what other bands had two guitar players?
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to think, man.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: Uh because most of them just want I mean, you got like your Reb Beach, you got your George Lynch, CC DeVille.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yep.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: So uh Cinderella is only it was just Tom Kiefer.
- 32:50SPEAKER_07: It's Tom Kiefer and Jeff LaBar.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: Well, I wonder.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: They weren't really a duo, but maybe maybe they're on that list.
- 32:56SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I don't know.
- 32:56SPEAKER_07: Let's look.
- 32:57SPEAKER_07: Let's look and see what it said.
- 32:58SPEAKER_07: So we said well, we we named a bunch of them.
- 33:00SPEAKER_07: So let's just let's leave see what Ultimate Classic Rock says.
- 33:03SPEAKER_07: So their first duo, uh look at that.
- 33:07SPEAKER_07: Cinderella, Tom Kiefer, and Jeff LaBar.
- 33:09SPEAKER_07: Well, well, there we go.
- 33:10SPEAKER_07: There we go.
- 33:11SPEAKER_07: Done.
- 33:12SPEAKER_07: Good call, Doug.
- 33:13SPEAKER_07: Super smart.
- 33:14SPEAKER_07: Uh Steve Clark and Phil Collin of Def Leopard.
- 33:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah, we did say those guys.
- 33:18SPEAKER_07: Uh Slash and Izzy.
- 33:20SPEAKER_07: And we said those guys because the picture was right there.
- 33:22SPEAKER_07: So we didn't uh Right, yeah.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: That wasn't uh, you know we didn't go too far.
- 33:26SPEAKER_07: Same thing with Warren D Martini and Robin Cross.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I thought that was Sammy and Eddie.
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: Look at that! You was Dave Sabo, Snake Sabo and Scotty Hill.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: I I knew they had to be on there.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: Because that Youth Gone Wild album was.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, you think in the 80s, man.
- 33:41SPEAKER_07: But that that album was Is it because so so uh Joe Perry and Brad Woodford, is it because they're 70s?
- 33:48SPEAKER_07: It's gotta be there.
- 33:49SPEAKER_07: That's probably why they weren't on that list.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because these guys were strictly came out in the 80s.
- 33:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: So I totally get that.
- 33:57SPEAKER_07: That makes sense.
- 33:58SPEAKER_07: Okay, so uh let's go to this one.
- 34:03SPEAKER_07: Uh this is I said the one for me, the guitar players, and this one.
- 34:06SPEAKER_07: This one's for you.
- 34:07SPEAKER_07: 16 of Rock's coolest female drummers.
- 34:09SPEAKER_07: Ooh.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: All right, so can you name Speaking of which, before we get into this, Annika Niles?
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but the big kerfuffle now is the ticket prices to these shows.
- 34:20SPEAKER_07: Oh, I know.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: I saw a YouTube video of this guy from Ireland.
- 34:25SPEAKER_02: He was trying to get tickets to any one of the shows.
- 34:27SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: There was only two cities left.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: One was uh, I think Toronto and Chicago.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: What?
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: They're all sold out, you mean?
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: Oh wow.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: This was like nosebleeds.
- 34:40SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 34:41SPEAKER_02: $900.
- 34:43SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 34:43SPEAKER_07: See, that's and that's not Rush that's doing it.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: No, it's not Rush.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: It's whoever's putting on these shows.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: It's it's the economics of scarcity.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: This is Rush coming back for a limited time.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: We can charge whatever the frig we want.
- 34:56SPEAKER_07: And some of these tickets are going for$2,000.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: I think I think the range is like$400 to$2,500.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's insane.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: But anyway, I can't.
- 35:05SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's you know, it's crazy, man.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: I I would I would love to go to a show, but I'm not gonna go.
- 35:12SPEAKER_07: No way.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Um I'll spend a lot of money on dumb stuff.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: I will.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Don't worry about it.
- 35:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: But I don't know, man.
- 35:20SPEAKER_07: I hear you.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: I would I would love to see this show, one of these shows, but I'm not spending not dropping thousands of dollars just to go to a show.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, I would love to, but I reality is I can't.
- 35:32SPEAKER_07: Yep, no, I don't blame you at all.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, whatever.

- 35:51SPEAKER_07: Yes, thank you.
- 35:53SPEAKER_02: Um, let's see, who else?
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: Sam Malone.
- 35:55SPEAKER_07: Oh, she played with Motley Crue?
- 35:57SPEAKER_07: Yep.

- 36:21SPEAKER_07: These are 16 of the coolest.
- 36:23SPEAKER_07: Oh, no, it does say rock.
- 36:25SPEAKER_07: 16 of rock's coolest female drummers.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: Carpenter's a rock.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: Soft rock.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know.
- 36:31SPEAKER_02: Did you see her do drum souls, man?
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: She was freaking so.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: She was awesome.
- 36:35SPEAKER_07: But she was more jazz though, wasn't she?
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: She was awesome.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: But I mean, this is the late 60s, early 70s.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: So, of course, yeah, it's going to be jazz, you know, jazz driven.
- 36:43SPEAKER_07: Uh, Cindy Blackman, Santana.
- 36:45SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah.
- 36:45SPEAKER_07: First one on their list.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: She's freaking great, man.
- 36:47SPEAKER_07: Uh, let's see.
- 36:49SPEAKER_07: Ruth Underwood.
- 36:50SPEAKER_07: No idea.
- 36:51SPEAKER_07: Frank Zappa's mothers of invention.
- 36:54SPEAKER_07: Um, let's see.

- 36:56SPEAKER_07: Thanks to Ruth Underwood.
- 36:57SPEAKER_07: Played percussion most spectacularly the Vibes and the Marimba from 68 all the way up to Zappa's death in 1993.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: Dude, I'm impressed anybody can play vibes.

- 37:07SPEAKER_02: That's hard.
- 37:07SPEAKER_07: Yeah.

- 37:09SPEAKER_07: Yep, there we go.
- 37:11SPEAKER_07: She's in the list that you oh, Annika Niles is on the list.
- 37:14SPEAKER_07: Well, of course, man.
- 37:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 37:15SPEAKER_07: I can't even believe we didn't say Anica.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, she's not what she wouldn't be in my top five because I mean, I literally just found out about her last week.
- 37:21SPEAKER_07: I suppose that's true.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, you know, she's good, but she's not in my top five.
- 37:26SPEAKER_07: Will she be eventually?
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 37:27SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: I gotta see a rush.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: I gotta see when she comes out and does a rush show.
- 37:31SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: I want to see how she does.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: And then I'm gonna be like, yeah, you're going to the I got a feeling she's gonna kill it.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: She's gonna kill it.
- 37:37SPEAKER_07: She's gonna be awesome.
- 37:38SPEAKER_07: Sheila E.
- 37:39SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_07: She's freaking great, man.
- 37:41SPEAKER_07: Yep, she's on your list.
- 37:43SPEAKER_07: Janet Wise.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: Oh, from uh the Bengals, right?
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: No.
- 37:47SPEAKER_07: No.
- 37:48SPEAKER_07: Uh nope.
- 37:49SPEAKER_07: Hold on, let me read it to you.
- 37:51SPEAKER_07: Janet Weiss got involved with bands when she was in college uh in San Francisco.
- 37:54SPEAKER_07: It was there that she learned to play the drums, teaching herself, watching people like John Bonham and Topper Heedon.
- 38:00SPEAKER_07: Um apart from that, she was also a member of uh oh wait, uh let's see.
- 38:07SPEAKER_07: She joined up with Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstone in Slater Kinney.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: Oh Slater Kinney, yes.
- 38:12SPEAKER_07: She was also a member of Quasi, The Jicks, and Wild Flag.
- 38:16SPEAKER_07: I have not heard of Janet Weiss.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: The only one the only band I've heard of is Slater Kinney.
- 38:23SPEAKER_07: Mo Tucker.
- 38:26SPEAKER_07: Uh Velvet Underground.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 38:30unknown: Yeah.
- 38:31SPEAKER_07: What's a picture of all dudes?
- 38:32SPEAKER_07: If you weren't paying attention, you might have thought the Velvet Underground's drummer was just another skinny dude.
- 38:37SPEAKER_07: Maureen Mo Tucker kept her hair close cropped in those days and dressed essentially the same as her male bandmates.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: So this would be Mo see I you know at first glance, it's like, oh, yeah, four dudes.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 38:53SPEAKER_07: Uh I again Velvet Underground.
- 38:55SPEAKER_07: I I really don't have anything good to say about Velvet Underground.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: I don't any they're kind of odd.
- 39:00SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: Eccentric, yeah.
- 39:04SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 39:04SPEAKER_07: Not my not my cup of tea.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: No, no, not my jam.
- 39:07SPEAKER_07: Uh Debbie Peterson from The Bangles.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: I get that.
- 39:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah, me too.
- 39:13SPEAKER_07: Uh Sandy West from The Runaways.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:18SPEAKER_07: Uh West's musical career just about ended when the runaways split up in 79.
- 39:21SPEAKER_07: She passed away from lung cancer in 2006.
- 39:24SPEAKER_07: That's too bad.
- 39:25SPEAKER_07: I did not know that.
- 39:26SPEAKER_07: Jody Linscott.
- 39:28SPEAKER_07: Uh let's see.
- 39:29SPEAKER_07: Jodie Linscott was born in the U.S., but she went to the UK on a trip in 1971 and quite literally never returned.
- 39:36SPEAKER_07: For the sake of space, we cannot list all of the artists Linscott has worked with, but we'll name a few: The Who?
- 39:41SPEAKER_07: Elton John, Robert Palmer, Stevie Wonder, Brian Adams, The Clash, and more.
- 39:46SPEAKER_07: So basically she's a session drummer.
- 39:47SPEAKER_07: She must be a session drummer.
- 39:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 39:48SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 39:49SPEAKER_07: Jody Linscott.
- 39:50SPEAKER_07: Never heard of her.
- 39:50SPEAKER_07: Nope, me either.
- 39:52SPEAKER_07: Brie Howard, uh, one of the first female drummers to record rock music.
- 39:56SPEAKER_07: You might recognize her name for when she was the lead singer of the all-girl group, Fanny, which David Bowie once described to Rolling Stone as one of the finest rock bands of their time.
- 40:05SPEAKER_07: She also has an extensive resume, Peter Chris, Electric Light Orchestra, Keith Moon, Carol King.
- 40:11SPEAKER_07: She played with them.
- 40:13SPEAKER_07: Karen Carpenter is on the list.
- 40:17SPEAKER_07: Patty Schemmel Schemmel was the drummer for Hole, fronted by Courtney Love.
- 40:25SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 40:25SPEAKER_07: From 92 to 98.
- 40:27SPEAKER_07: Wasn't Samantha uh wasn't Sam?
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: She I think she was in after that.
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: After, yeah.
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:32SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: I think she was the original.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: She must have been the original.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: She must have been the original.
- 40:36SPEAKER_02: And that's probably why I don't know her because I'm not sure.
- 40:37SPEAKER_07: Oh, there's there she is.
- 40:38SPEAKER_07: Sam Samantha Maloney.
- 40:39SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 40:39SPEAKER_07: We purposely put Samantha Maloney after Patty Schimmel because that's exactly what happened in Hole.
- 40:45SPEAKER_07: She stepped in as drummer uh after her departure, and she also filled in for Motley Crue.
- 40:50SPEAKER_07: Um while then drummer Randy Castile was out dealing with health issues.
- 40:55SPEAKER_07: Uh did Randy Castile drum for Motley Crue?
- 40:59SPEAKER_07: I don't remember that.
- 41:00SPEAKER_07: Uh she did that for two years before serving as a fill-in drummer for Motley Crue, while then drummer Randy Castillo was out dealing with health issues.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: When was Randy Castile and Motley Crue?
- 41:10SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 41:11SPEAKER_07: Alright, let's go, Google.
- 41:13SPEAKER_07: Did Tommy Lee ever quit Motley Crue?
- 41:15SPEAKER_07: He was gone for Mother.
- 41:16SPEAKER_07: Well, because she was because she was.
- 41:18SPEAKER_07: I wonder if Randy Castillo was the original fill-in for Tommy Lee.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: Maybe.
- 41:24SPEAKER_07: And then she filled in for Randy Castillo.
- 41:26SPEAKER_07: I never heard that part of it.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: That's just weird.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: Okay, hold on.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: Let me uh my See you learn something new every day on the O'Brien and Doug Podcast.
- 41:36SPEAKER_07: Drummers.
- 41:42SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 41:42SPEAKER_07: This is really good stuff, by the way.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: I know, isn't it?
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: Um Starburst Orange.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: Yes, we highly recommend it.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: The main drummer of Motley Crew is Tommy Lee, who was a founding member and has been with the band most of its history.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: Other drummers who have filled in for Lee during his absences include Randy Castile and Samantha Maloney.
- 42:01SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so he must so Randy must have been the original uh pick for Randy Castile.
- 42:07SPEAKER_02: He filled in for Lee when the band was unable to tour the album New Tattoo due to illness.
- 42:13SPEAKER_02: Samantha Maloney, she joined the band in 2000 after Castile's departure and toured with them to promote New Tattoo.
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: So it was basically just one album.
- 42:24SPEAKER_07: So he played on the album?
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: That's my understanding.
- 42:28SPEAKER_07: That's the one with John Karabi, right?
- 42:30SPEAKER_07: Or no?
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: Is it?
- 42:31SPEAKER_07: No, no, no, no.
- 42:32SPEAKER_07: I thought that was uh Generation Tattoo.
- 42:34SPEAKER_07: You're right, Swine.
- 42:35SPEAKER_07: Generation Swine.
- 42:36SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 42:36SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah, no, New Tattoo was Vince Neal.
- 42:41SPEAKER_07: And they had uh like a song, a hit song on there called Hell on High Heels or something like that.
- 42:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm not sure.
- 42:46SPEAKER_07: It's the one that Samantha Maloney would play on the tour during the tour.
- 42:49SPEAKER_07: Yeah, anyway.
- 42:50SPEAKER_07: Meg White from the White Stripes.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: Totally forgot about Meg White.
- 42:53SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: Probably because I'm not a fan of White Stripes.
- 42:57SPEAKER_07: Um you know Bobby Hall?
- 43:01SPEAKER_07: You know you're doing something right when Bob Dylan hires you for a world tour, which is what happened to Bobby Hall in 78.
- 43:08SPEAKER_07: Uh the real question is who she has not worked with over the years.
- 43:11SPEAKER_07: She's worked with Janice Joplin, Joni Mitchell, The Doors, Mark Boland, Bill Withers, and more.
- 43:17SPEAKER_07: Um, she was discovered by a Motown producer when she was just 11 years old.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 43:22SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 43:23SPEAKER_07: So there you go.
- 43:24SPEAKER_02: I've never seen her before or heard of her.
- 43:26SPEAKER_07: Uh nor have I.
- 43:27SPEAKER_07: Nor have I.
- 43:28SPEAKER_07: But there you go.
- 43:28SPEAKER_07: Sixteen of Rock's coolest female drummers, and you listed all of them.
- 43:33SPEAKER_07: Right?
- 43:33SPEAKER_07: Except for No, you listed all of them all of them on the Well, your list was on that on that list.
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, all mine were on that.
- 43:40SPEAKER_02: All yours were on that list.
- 43:42SPEAKER_07: Um I was gonna go into this, but I don't think we I don't think we have time.
- 43:45SPEAKER_07: Rock's most hated records.
- 43:47SPEAKER_02: I'll save that for next week.
- 43:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah, we'll save that for next week.
- 43:49SPEAKER_07: If we remember, of course.
- 43:51SPEAKER_07: Um so there you go.
- 43:53SPEAKER_07: Uh let's do let's move ahead.
- 43:55SPEAKER_07: Can we move ahead into uh what I think we should move ahead into?
- 43:59SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 43:59SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 44:00SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 44:03SPEAKER_07: You know what that means?
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: Alright, so now we're back on track.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: We've heard from every we have.
- 44:16SPEAKER_07: So uh our judge.
- 44:17SPEAKER_07: Jimmy, what was the what was the question last week?
- 44:20SPEAKER_10: Oh crap, I don't remember now.
- 44:23SPEAKER_07: I don't either.
- 44:24SPEAKER_07: We'll find out here.
- 44:25SPEAKER_07: Let me let me look at cousin Larry.
- 44:27SPEAKER_07: We'll find out here in a second.
- 44:28SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: Uh oh, it's the driving.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: The driver's test.
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: Your first song, you jam.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: No.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's this week.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: I can't remember.
- 44:42SPEAKER_07: We'll just let the job let her speak.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: She kind of threw me off because she said that she's on vacation this week, so she was like.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: I thought she was on vacation last week.
- 44:53SPEAKER_02: No.
- 44:53SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 44:54SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: Oh no, she might have been.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: Maybe she got two weeks off.
- 44:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, she she works all the time.
- 44:59SPEAKER_02: Good for her.
- 44:59SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 45:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, if you got if you can do it, get away with it.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 45:05SPEAKER_02: Okay, so this is uh Where Where's she work?
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: Wouldn't you like to know?
- 45:14SPEAKER_08: I thought you were gonna slip there for a second.
- 45:16SPEAKER_10: Wouldn't you like to know, Mr.
- 45:18SPEAKER_10: May?
- 45:18SPEAKER_10: What does she do?
- 45:20SPEAKER_10: She does work.
- 45:22SPEAKER_10: She works at work.
- 45:23SPEAKER_10: She works at work.
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: Let me uh hit the play button here.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, let me turn this down.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, another awesome week of mixed tape.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: Uh really enjoyed all the picks this week.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Uh it was kind of a tough pick.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: Um Merle Haggard is very iconic.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: Awesome song.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: But I almost instantly went with Bob.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: American blue collar montage.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: I can't remember the exact prompt wording, but um very iconic, especially with the uh the commercials for GM and everything.
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: So uh I did really like that one.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: Um so another awesome week, and I'm super excited to hear this week's pick.
- 46:26SPEAKER_07: So uh is she old enough to remember those GM commercials?
- 46:31SPEAKER_07: Because this would have been probably late was it early eight late eighties?
- 46:37SPEAKER_07: Early nineties that those came out.
- 46:40SPEAKER_07: Is she old enough to remember those?
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: If it's late eighties, no.
- 46:44SPEAKER_07: If it's early nineties, then she's was probably like a baby.
- 46:48SPEAKER_07: Maybe.
- 46:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_07: Maybe I'm just trying to like guess her age.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: I know what you're doing.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: I know what you're doing.
- 46:55SPEAKER_07: I I don't know why.
- 46:56SPEAKER_07: I just I think it's it's kind of cool that I have no idea who she is, but I really want to know who she's a state secret.
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: I'll sh if she ever wants to reveal her identity, I'm I'm leaving that completely up to her.
- 47:08SPEAKER_07: Well, here's the thing.
- 47:09SPEAKER_07: I enjoy it that I don't know who she is.
- 47:13SPEAKER_07: But but the like the my brain really wants to know who she's oh yeah.
- 47:18SPEAKER_07: I mean, I totally number one because I think she's pretty damn cool.
- 47:23SPEAKER_07: So we we would we would get along.
- 47:25SPEAKER_07: So but no, I I do like the anonymity thing.
- 47:28SPEAKER_07: I I do like that.
- 47:29SPEAKER_07: So it's kind of a neat element.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I think I think she enjoys the uh you know the the the the mystique intrigue in the city.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: It's cool.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: Everything's cool.
- 47:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's kinda fun.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: It kind of it kind of brings a fun thing to the to the show.
- 47:42SPEAKER_07: I totally agree.
- 47:42SPEAKER_07: So I think I'm not gonna stop trying to find out.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I totally get that.
- 47:46SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 47:46SPEAKER_07: Because that's kind of that's kind of that's kind of a a fun thing to do, is me trying to guess who she is.
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like me doing wall tune ins every week.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: You know, this is like your this is like your version of wall tunes.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: Who's the judge?
- 47:56SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 47:57SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 47:58SPEAKER_02: Where does she work?
- 48:00SPEAKER_07: One of these days you're gonna slip.
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: So I probably will.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: I probably will.
- 48:04SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: So you know, I'm just I'm not that smart.
- 48:07SPEAKER_07: So that was the past.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: That was the past.
- 48:08SPEAKER_07: Let's do the presence.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: Presence.
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: So we got back from cousin Larry.
- 48:13SPEAKER_02: Who, by the way, is doing very well in fantasy football.
- 48:16SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 48:16SPEAKER_07: And I am still in last place.
- 48:20SPEAKER_02: I don't get it.
- 48:21SPEAKER_02: I don't each.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: I mean, the predictor is not lying.
- 48:24SPEAKER_02: Oh my word.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: Holy cow.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: It's just like every week, it's like, dang.
- 48:28SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 48:28SPEAKER_02: Another butt whooping.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: What's happening?
- 48:30SPEAKER_07: Maybe the football gods just want me to get a trophy.
- 48:33SPEAKER_07: It doesn't matter.
- 48:35SPEAKER_07: At this point, I think you're guaranteed to get it.
- 48:36SPEAKER_07: If it's a toilet or it's a yeah, whatever.
- 48:39SPEAKER_02: You're just gonna get it, man.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: All right, so this is what cousin Larry said.
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: Uh well, funny story.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: The day I tested for my driver's license, my dad would not let me use his car for the test.
- 48:48SPEAKER_02: So I asked a couple from my church if I could test in their car.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: They agreed and I passed first try.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: I had to Hill Park and Parallel Park back in those days, like you guys had to.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: I share this because I couldn't exactly crank tunes in this couple's car as they drove me home.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: This was 1981, maybe '82.
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: So I imagine I would have cranked songs like I have the tiger or maybe Working for the Weekend by Loverboy.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: But the song I think I would have been truly been cranking is ACDC's Highway to Hell.
- 49:19SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 49:20SPEAKER_02: Honorable mention to Believe It or Not by Joey Scarbury.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: Also, my dad would not let me use his car, a 69 Chrysler, Newport, to go get my picture license.
- 49:30SPEAKER_02: We had to go to the Waterville police station back in those days, so I rode my bike.
- 49:37SPEAKER_02: You imagine?
- 49:39SPEAKER_02: I'm here to get my picture taken for my license.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Is that your bike?
- 49:44SPEAKER_07: I'm just thinking of uh believe it or not.
- 49:48SPEAKER_07: Walking over here.
- 50:02SPEAKER_07: Is this the original version?
- 50:09SPEAKER_07: Something sounds different about it, but I adjust the recording.
- 50:21SPEAKER_07: I almost think this is an ACB team.
- 50:26SPEAKER_07: Sounds like a good impression.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: Isn't that going down for a time?
- 50:43SPEAKER_07: Which well, which is why I think this is because you can never tell.
- 50:48SPEAKER_07: This is one of those lyric videos.
- 50:50SPEAKER_07: Yeah, you didn't you don't know.
- 50:52SPEAKER_07: Could be anybody, could be I AI.
- 50:56SPEAKER_07: For all we know.
- 50:57SPEAKER_07: And they're singing, they're singing um like harmonies, like perfect harmonies.
- 51:02SPEAKER_07: See, this is the original right here.
- 51:04SPEAKER_07: It already sounds different.
- 51:05SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it does, actually, yeah.
- 51:11SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 51:12SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 51:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 51:13SPEAKER_07: That was a good uh impression.
- 51:14SPEAKER_07: That was a good impression.
- 51:15SPEAKER_07: I wonder if it was AI.
- 51:17SPEAKER_07: I bet it was.
- 51:22SPEAKER_07: Pretty dang close.
- 51:23SPEAKER_07: That's the original right there.
- 51:24SPEAKER_07: Don't even get me started on AI.
- 51:28SPEAKER_07: Stupid.
- 51:28SPEAKER_07: It's crazy.
- 51:29SPEAKER_07: All right, what was yours?
- 51:30SPEAKER_02: Uh what did oh.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: I was trying to, because I got my license in 88, so I was trying to figure out what I was listening to back then.
- 51:37SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 51:39SPEAKER_02: So the best I that I remember, I don't remember that day.
- 51:44SPEAKER_07: I don't remember playing anything.
- 51:46SPEAKER_02: But I know I was really into that Living Color album.
- 51:50SPEAKER_07: Cult of Personality.
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: Cult of Personality.
- 51:51SPEAKER_08: Is that the one?
- 51:52SPEAKER_02: That's the one I picked, yeah.
- 51:53SPEAKER_02: Oh because I was really into that album.
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: So I know I would have.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: If I was if I was, you know, police in anything, it was this song.
- 52:04SPEAKER_09: You want to talk right down to uh This is a great song.
- 52:08SPEAKER_07: It's an awesome song.
- 52:10SPEAKER_05: Can easily understand.
- 52:25SPEAKER_07: As much as I love this song, I think hold on.
- 52:38SPEAKER_07: Now I love uh is it Cory Glover?
- 52:41SPEAKER_07: Corey Glover, yeah.
- 52:42SPEAKER_07: I love his voice.
- 52:43SPEAKER_07: I never liked Vernon Reed's guitar play.
- 52:46SPEAKER_02: Not really, it's kind of messy.
- 52:47SPEAKER_07: It's it's it's and in the way he plays, yeah, but like it's it never resonated with me.
- 52:53SPEAKER_02: But he's good, but yeah, it's never it was never like he's fantastic, don't get me wrong.
- 52:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:05SPEAKER_08: This is nostalgic to me, man.
- 53:07SPEAKER_08: This just brings back memories.
- 53:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's just kind of his his guitar play.
- 53:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's good, but it's something about the tone.
- 53:44SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 53:45SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 53:46SPEAKER_07: Um anyway.
- 53:48SPEAKER_07: Um, so I had to think in the same thing.
- 53:49SPEAKER_02: That's a that's a song that got him a part in Platoon.
- 53:53SPEAKER_07: Uh Corey Glover?
- 53:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's in Platoon.
- 53:55SPEAKER_02: You know he's in Platoon.
- 53:56SPEAKER_07: I knew he was in Platoon, but I didn't realize that got him the part.
- 53:58SPEAKER_02: That's I don't know if that's true or not.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: I just assume.
- 54:01SPEAKER_07: Oh.
- 54:02SPEAKER_02: Because otherwise, who is he, you know?
- 54:03SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: I like watching reaction videos to this song.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: People are like, they're black?
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: Like, uh yeah.
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: Why is that such a surprise?
- 54:13SPEAKER_07: Because they're playing metal.
- 54:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 54:14SPEAKER_07: They're playing hard rock.
- 54:15SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm like, hello, Jimi Hendrix.
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: Hello.
- 54:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 54:19SPEAKER_07: Um it's just really funny people.
- 54:20SPEAKER_07: And they're still going too, I think.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's still they're still playing.
- 54:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:23SPEAKER_02: I think we uh when we were doing the new releases, Vernon Reid's got a letter uh album.
- 54:28SPEAKER_07: A solo album.
- 54:29SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 54:29SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:29SPEAKER_02: So they must be still doing stuff.
- 54:32SPEAKER_07: I had to think about um my driver's test.
- 54:34SPEAKER_07: I remember telling you about my driver's test.
- 54:36SPEAKER_07: I took it in my mother's Chevrolet Cavalier.
- 54:38SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 54:39SPEAKER_07: Um I was not so I will tell you that I would have cranked this song uh after my driver's test or during my driver's test or whatever.
- 54:49SPEAKER_07: But I was never that into the band.
- 54:52SPEAKER_07: But I love this song.
- 54:54SPEAKER_07: So I would have I I cranked this song today, actually.
- 54:58SPEAKER_07: Um, and it would be uh this one.
- 55:02SPEAKER_07: Ah yes.
- 55:05SPEAKER_07: I mean, I'm not saying I don't like the band.
- 55:07SPEAKER_07: I was I was never there are people that are really into ACDC and really into Guns N' Roses.
- 55:12SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 55:13SPEAKER_07: I never was.
- 55:14SPEAKER_02: I'm really I'm really into this album.
- 55:16SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 55:16SPEAKER_02: But I'm not necessarily into the band.
- 55:18SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 55:19SPEAKER_08: So but this this song.
- 55:21SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 55:32SPEAKER_08: Can you imagine though?
- 55:33SPEAKER_08: You've just got your driver's life.
- 55:40SPEAKER_08: Roll down the window now when it gets when it goes into the da da da da yeah.
- 55:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:00SPEAKER_08: That's when you're putting your foot on the belt.
- 56:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 56:18SPEAKER_08: Alright, here we go.
- 56:27SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so that's that's my choice.
- 56:29SPEAKER_07: Good choice.
- 56:30SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 56:31SPEAKER_07: Um we have Paradise City for me.
- 56:36SPEAKER_07: Uh we have Cult of Personality for Doug, and we have ACDC's Highway to Hell for Cousin Larry.
- 56:44SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 56:45SPEAKER_07: Uh those are the choices.
- 56:47SPEAKER_02: So the judge, while she's working at her work, has her has her work cut out for her.
- 56:52SPEAKER_07: What was this?
- 56:53SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 56:53SPEAKER_07: Is she she teaches self-defense?
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: She's a jujitsu oh uh world champion.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: When she's at her work.
- 57:06SPEAKER_02: When she's at her work, kicking somebody's butt.
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: She's a prison guard.
- 57:10SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 57:11SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's what she is.

- 59:18SPEAKER_07: That's a book.

- 59:20SPEAKER_10: It's actual paper.
- 59:21SPEAKER_07: Uh, and while I take off my headphones and climb that wall of tuneage, Doug's got a book.
- 59:28SPEAKER_07: Doug's gonna read a book.
- 59:30SPEAKER_07: About a song.
- 59:31SPEAKER_10: About a song.
- 59:32SPEAKER_10: Go ahead.
- 59:33SPEAKER_10: Called Old Brown Shoe.
- 59:35SPEAKER_05: Old Brown Shoe.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: Old Brown Shoe.
- 59:38SPEAKER_02: Old Brown Shoe.
- 59:39SPEAKER_02: Uh Old Brown Shoe was one of three songs, which George made a demo of at Abbey Road on February 25th, 1969.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: The other two were something, a future Beatles single, and All Things Must Pass, the title track of his first solo album in 1970.
- 59:57SPEAKER_02: The lyric had its origins in George's religious view that we must be we must free ourselves from the reality of the material world as it is illusory.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_02: That's a big word.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: Illusory.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_02: Illusory.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_02: Once absorbed into the divine consciousness, there would be no right versus wrong, body versus soul, spirit versus matter.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_02: Rather, like Paul had done with Hello Goodbye, George's words were based.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_02: George's were George Words are hard.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: George's words were a game based on opposites.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_07: I so sorry.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_07: That's all sorry.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_02: That's not even the right song.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_02: It wasn't a song which told much of a story, the and the intriguing tile was pinched from a line about stepping out of this old brown shoe.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_02: George has always had a problem coming up with titles.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: The main inspiration was musical.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: George had been messing around on a piano one day and hit on a chord sequence he liked.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_02: Words were added later.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_02: Recorded two months after being demoed, old brown shoe became the B-side of the ballad of John and Yoko.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_02: Much later, it was used as a track on the compilation albums Hey Jude and the Beatles, 1967 to 1970.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_07: Doesn't it sound like George is like in a different room?
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like he's like outside the room yelling in.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_02: I wonder if there's just if they just This is from Pastmasters, though.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_07: I wonder if Maybe it's the demo version.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_07: But I don't think the the I don't think the album one is much better.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_07: Let me see.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_07: Let's see.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_07: This is take two.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_07: It says old brown shoe take two.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_07: So I'm curious.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_07: Talk to your healthcare professional.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_07: No!
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_02: I don't want to talk to my healthcare professional.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_02: Thank you very much.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_02: That's none of your business.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_07: I wonder this is sounds different already.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_01: I'm on the love that stride.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_07: So what I was planning was was from Pastmasters.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_07: So it must be like a demo version.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_07: Must be.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: Sometimes wears it twice as well.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I don't remember being the vocals being that weird on the far away.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_01: I'm stepping out this old brown shoe.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: Baby, I'm in love with you.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: So glad you came here won't be the same now, I'm telling you.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_08: I actually like this song.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_02: I'm not a huge fan of it.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: But I get it.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_02: Nobody cares.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_02: See if you get a channel on DougTube.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_02: Jerk.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_02: O'Brien and DougTube.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_02: Hello.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_02: You're gonna be on jerktube.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_02: There's gonna be one channel.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_07: You everybody gets their own their own channel.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_07: Their own their own tube.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_02: Their own tube.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: Jerktube.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_02: I am jerking my wife's Teresa tube.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_02: Myra tube.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_02: Myra tube.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_02: Planter children tube.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_02: Jude tube.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_02: Jude.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no, have some orange star burst with sparkling eyes.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_10: Stop putting vodka in there.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_07: Um, alright.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_07: I have an album.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_02: Let the guessing begin.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, you gotta play the the thing.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_02: Remember the the we have the music now.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: Oh that's right.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_07: Let me go Which one was it?
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_07: Was it the scratch one?
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_07: Yes, that's one.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_07: Here we go.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_07: Here we go.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_07: Let the guessing begin.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_02: Uh is it a band?
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_02: Is it a good band?
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, okay.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_07: But I try to give you that clue.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_02: Ah, didn't even pick up on that.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_02: Simple music.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_02: Didn't even pick up on it.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_07: Okay, so um I have this.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_07: Of course, I have one called Smashes, Thrashes, and Hits.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_07: I think I have that one too.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_07: But this had some songs on it that I didn't have.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_07: Because I'm I I I'm in a kiss, I'm a kiss appreciator.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_07: There's some kiss songs that I like.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_07: Um but I lick it up!
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_02: Nick It Up!
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_07: Inside Joke.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_07: Oh.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_07: Inside Joke.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_07: We played that last Wednesday.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_07: We did.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_07: Down at the Cross Center.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_07: Um So there are yeah, there are a lot of songs that I like.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_07: Um, but I'm not in the Kiss Army by any stretch.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_07: No.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_07: I don't actually own any Kiss Kiss albums except for Smashes, Thrashers, and Hits, and this one, which is the Millennium Collection.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: Ah, yes.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_07: Uh and the reason I got this one is because it had some songs in it that I didn't have.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_07: So, and some of them are from later Kiss albums.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_07: Uh this says it's the Millennium Col uh collection, but uh is Dr.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_07: even on here?
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_07: It's not.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_07: So I don't know why that says it's the Millennium Collection.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_07: Well, that's dumb! It is really dumb.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_05: Uh oh, uh is this it?
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_07: Right here.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_07: Um B dot com to Into Yep, that's on there.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_07: Okay, so we'll go with this one because this this is closer to what this collection has in it.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_07: So I will play a couple of these.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_07: This is a song called Into the No, it's not.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_07: It's a commercial still.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_07: Um but this is the Millennium Collection, it starts with uh God gave rock and roll to you.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_07: Do you know that song?
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_07: Which is very cheesy, but kind of Well, it's par for the course for kiss.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_07: But their later stuff was hard.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, once they got rid of the makeup and stopped doing all the gimmicky stuff.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_07: Yep, this is called Into the Void.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_07: So while the Smash just thrashes and hits has all the classic Kiss stuff on it, right?
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_07: This has newer stuff.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_07: That's why I kept it in my collection.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_07: This is this is from Revenge.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_07: This is uh a great song, actually, called Unholy.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, this is a great song.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_07: I really I dig this one.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_02: I had this album on cassette.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_07: Revenge?
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_07: Oh, speaking of that, I wonder.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_07: Let me come back to what that is, by the way.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_07: It's still hard for me.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's still hard for me to take Gene Simmons seriously.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_08: Kind of a cool rift.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_07: I think this one is also a Jane Simmons uh track.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_07: This is called Domino.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_03: Let me tell you my story.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_03: I've got a man's dance predicament.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_07: Almost sounds like a damn Yankees doing a big one.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_07: That's a little bit of that.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_07: What is that one?
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_02: Uh uh Pile Driver.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_02: Well, they came out close together.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_02: Did they?
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, revenge it.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_07: So some of the other songs on here uh Hate, Childhood's End, I Will Be There.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_07: Um Psycho Circus.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_07: I Pledge Allegiance to the State of Rock and Roll.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_07: Nothing can keep me from you.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_02: Um I Pledge Allegiance to the State of Rock and Roll.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_02: Sounds like something Jack Black would do.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_07: Um they do have a couple of songs.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_07: Remember when uh they did uh uh an acoustic uh like an unplugged reunion?
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_07: I forgot about that.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_07: Where they brought Ace out with Peter Chris.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_07: They've got a couple of tracks from that.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_07: This one coming home.
- 1:11:19unknown: It's been a whole lot.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_07: No, this is not the acoustic version.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_07: Nope.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_07: Uh I gotta wonder if this is the acoustic version of this.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_07: Nope, it's not.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_07: Um This has it though.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_07: Oh, okay.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so I'm I'm I'm playing these off YouTube.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_07: Um of course this is the ver first track right here.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_07: And this this song makes me laugh and smile.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_07: God gave rock and roll to you.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_02: It's just you know it's really hard to play guitar when it's flinging over your head.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_07: And when it's not plugged in.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_07: And in water.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_07: Is this what you would call an anthem?
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_02: It's trying to be.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_02: You know, I I hate to I hate to say this.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_02: And this is not a dig on them.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_02: They should have stayed in the makeup.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_07: Well, well Yeah.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_02: Aesthetically, they're not a pretty band.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_07: I do like a lot of the music that came out when they were out of the makeup, but they could have done that with the makeup.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they it absolutely could have, you know, and just kept the the whole I mean, because that's what they were known for.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_02: That's what they came up, that's how they got famous was that gimmick of the makeup.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_02: And the costumes and everything like that.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_02: They could have still done music like this in the makeup.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_02: And we'd have been like, yeah, it's Kiss.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_02: We get it.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_02: But when they did this, it's like, yeah.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're trying to be uh, you know, big, you know, iconic.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_02: They want your lighters.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_02: And I'm sure I'm sure when they do this song, that's exactly what happens.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_02: So I totally get it.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_07: Um, alright.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_07: So there you go.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_07: That is the album, Kiss, the Millennium Collection.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_02: Now, speaking of Kiss, did you know that Neil Peart wrote a song to kind of dig at them?
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_07: No.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_07: I did not.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_07: What song was that?
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_02: The song uh I think I'm going bald off Caress of Steel.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_02: He wrote that in in a as a like a dig it.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_02: Kiss?
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_02: Because they had a song called something similar to that.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_02: I th uh I'm losing something like that.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_02: It was like his, like, uh, you know, him him jabbing, you know, in Neil Pearke sense of humor.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_02: I did not know that.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_07: Um I did want to tell you about this.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_07: This was kind of cool.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_07: It's a cassette, and it is a cassette.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_07: It was given to me by Chris Morton.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_07: Oh.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_07: Yes, so this is a band that he was in uh back in 2001.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_07: Right, yeah, he was talking about that.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_07: The band is called Strange Days.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_07: Uh, and it was a live performance that they did at Camp Namaca.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_07: And he had he wanted me to digitize it for him.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_07: Um I'm not gonna play it because I don't think you'd want me to.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_07: Um I'll play it for you after.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_07: Oh, okay.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_07: Um but it was kinda uh uh neat hearing it.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_07: I cleaned it up as best I could.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_07: I mean, there was a lot of tape hiss and it was recorded live.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_07: I don't know how they recorded it there, but it was a lot of noise.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_07: So I did some noise reduction and some compression and everything and and cleaned it up as best I could.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_07: Um but what I like about doing stuff like this um is because of kind of what what he had said to me afterwards, because I sent him digital files.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_07: And I won't read you the whole message because it's a long one.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_07: Um but he said because I sent them to him and he says, I got them all, and they are glorious.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_07: Um confession, I've never listened to that cassette tape.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_07: I had a bad feeling the audio would be awful, and besides, the only place it would have felt right to listen to it was driving someplace far enough away that I'd listen to the whole thing without my mind wandering off.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_07: The last car I owned with a cassette deck was my 92 Caprice, God Rest Her V8 Soul, which went defunct about the same time as the band Strange Days.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_07: I had to pick he had to pick his daughter up in Sherman.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_07: Uh I got your emails about ten minutes out of Mars Hill with a little trepidation.

- 1:16:08SPEAKER_07: Uh for what it's worth, though, it really was glorious to hear those songs again.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_07: I didn't even remember two of them, and I co-wrote them.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_07: Uh So much of that night has been foggy, 25 years on.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_07: It was the first time, maybe the only time I've ever played originals in a band and had a crowd be into it.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_07: He was 19 at the time.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_07: So, you know, and I won't I won't uh um read the whole thing, but he's gonna play it for the rest of the members of the band as well, because they probably haven't heard it for I don't know, 25 years or whatever it was.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_07: Um but it was neat to hear uh just music, you know, it was original music.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_07: Um and there was and the crowd the kids were into it.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_07: So it was kind of neat.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_07: Um and again, I'll I'll play a little bit for you, but that was fun, Chris, if you're listening.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_07: Um transferring that to digital, and by the way, I have to get him the cassette back because it's history, man.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_07: Kind of a keep sacred.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_07: So I'll make sure that it's uh historic.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_07: I'll make sure that he gets that back.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_07: Um so that's it.
