- 2:43Hello everybody, and welcome to Into the Weeds podcast here on
- 2:46Military Broadcast Radio. I'm Amber.
- 2:48And I'm Alora. And thank you very much for
- 2:51being here tonight. It has been a very busy couple
- 2:55of weeks for me. I don't know about you.
- 2:57Yeah. Well, yeah.
- 2:59I went to Eureka Springs, and actually before we went to
- 3:03Eureka Springs, we went up to Chillicothe and we went to see
- 3:07my cousin who's in prison there, and it was a really good visit.
- 3:13Shelly was doing really good. Yeah, she was doing real good.
- 3:17She does ask for prayer that God moves in the heart of the
- 3:23chaplain that's there. Really.
- 3:26Yeah. He was actually a security guard
- 3:28for like 18 years. OK at Chillicothe.
- 3:31Yeah, at Chillicothe. And then he became the chaplain
- 3:34and I think he's a little jaded. OK, so it could probably create
- 3:39some hard feelings. Yeah, on.
- 3:41Both sides because I mean, there's probably a lot of for
- 3:43lifers in there that have already had dealings with him,
- 3:46positive or negative. Exactly.
- 3:48OK. Yeah, so everybody keeps the
- 3:51women at Chillicothe in your prayers and good thoughts.
- 3:56If you don't pray, you know that something happens there.
- 4:00And thank you too much, Mom, for becoming a member.
- 4:03We thank you very much. We don't have a lot of member
- 4:06perks right now, but. We're getting there.
- 4:10Eventually, we've only been doing this for a year, but yeah,
- 4:14so thank you everyone for being here.
- 4:16And Eureka Springs was actually really cool.
- 4:19We went to the Crescent Hotel and I've been there several
- 4:24times or at least four times, and this would make it the fifth
- 4:30time. I've never been, but it's
- 4:31supposed to be a haunted hotel. You.
- 4:33Yes, it's supposed to be. The Haunted in America.
- 4:37Well, they bought the copyright for.
- 4:40They bought the copyright, so they are the most haunted, but
- 4:43if you have a copyright for it, it kind of makes it seem a
- 4:45little more gimmicky to be. I mean, it's not gimmicky at
- 4:50all. I've never.
- 4:51Been so. I don't know, it's really cute.
- 4:53So sound off in the comments of the chat if you've ever been to
- 4:55Eureka Springs. Yeah, Crescent Hotel, I have.
- 4:58Thought and I did not have well I had one experience.
- 5:02Well, it happened multiple times, but it was just one thing
- 5:07that happened was every time I would go to the bathroom on the
- 5:114th floor next to the lounge. How long were you there?
- 5:18I don't know, the first day we were there for like 4 hours.
- 5:22Just wondering at a hotel is it? Like no hanging out.
- 5:25We were hanging out just there's a bar with the lounge.
- 5:30OK, she's out at the bar. There was food and everything
- 5:34and we were talking to all the people sitting at the bar and
- 5:37you know how Dad talks so. Yeah, sometimes, yeah.
- 5:41So we were there for a while, and then we came back the next
- 5:45day and spent probably 2 1/2 hours or so.
- 5:50So yeah, but the only thing that happened was is when I would go
- 5:54into the bathroom, you have to step up and then you step up
- 6:00again into the bathroom. And as you're stepping up into
- 6:03the bathroom, there's this odd smell.
- 6:07And I went in there like 4 times before I figured out what it
- 6:12was. An odd smell in the bathroom,
- 6:14yes, Never ever heard of that, sorry.
- 6:17It was a different smell than what you would normally smell in
- 6:20the bathroom. Was it musty or?
- 6:24No, so no, it wasn't. But so it took me like 4-4 times
- 6:28going in there and trying to figure out what that smell was,
- 6:32but it smelled like a man's breath.
- 6:34A. Man's breath.
- 6:36A man's breath. OK.
- 6:39I don't know how to describe it other than that that's what it
- 6:41smelled like. And every time you would walk
- 6:44up, not whiskey, just just a man's breath.
- 6:48I don't know how to describe it anyway, other than that.
- 6:51And so, yeah, as soon as you would walk up and then walk up,
- 6:55you would just get hit in the face with the smell.
- 6:58Did he have halitosis? No halitosis, so MB says.
- 7:06I don't think I would ever dare go to to hotel that's rumored to
- 7:10be haunted. I don't think she stayed.
- 7:12There, Yeah. No, I didn't stay there.
- 7:14They didn't have any openings. I did try to.
- 7:17My husband did not want to stay. There, there's a place that we
- 7:21were talking about potentially renting out eventually, maybe
- 7:24not right now, but it's a little closer to home.
- 7:29There's an Airbnb. You might know a little bit more
- 7:31about that than. I do though.
- 7:33Death breath? Yes, probably.
- 7:36Me when I first wake up in the morning.
- 7:38So you're talking about Hobo Hill House in Jefferson City?
- 7:42I guess. Yeah, it's Hobo Hill House and I
- 7:46I watched something a while back about it and I don't know, it's
- 7:51worth checking out. I don't know how much I want to
- 7:55invite and play with spirits and.
- 7:57Stuff like that. You were talking a big game
- 7:59before, but now? I still want to go there, I just
- 8:03don't know if I want to like play around or anything like
- 8:06that. We're not going to.
- 8:07Bring a Ouija board. No, no, we're definitely not
- 8:09doing that. OK, Yeah.
- 8:13So today is a very special show. And before we forget, I want you
- 8:19guys to remember that. Shannon Lafleur Actually, I
- 8:25forgot to bring this up. So Shannon Lafleur and Jonda Lor
- 8:33Sanders are still missing, and I'm just going to bring up my
- 8:37community post so you guys can see it.
- 8:40There. We go sorry about this.
- 8:46Yeah, they're still missing. We still need to bring attention
- 8:51to it. We can't just let yes, can't
- 8:54just let this fade into the background.
- 8:55So Shannon Lafleur and she went missing in LA so.
- 9:02January 18th, 2025. So she's been gone for a good
- 9:06six months almost. Yeah, and her family hasn't seen
- 9:09her for quite a while. And then we've got Chanda La
- 9:14Laura Sanders. Sorry, Chanda Laura Sanders.
- 9:17And she's been missing for, well, since 2022.
- 9:23But there may have been a sighting of her in Oklahoma City
- 9:27last year at the Smokeapalooza that was.
- 9:30Alleged it wasn't confirmed. Well, her family thinks it's
- 9:33her, but, you know, it's just a picture that somebody took and
- 9:39sent to her. There's hope, There's hope.
- 9:42There's hope. And you know, if these women are
- 9:45just missing because they want to be, you know, then please
- 9:49just reach out to your family or to authorities and just say,
- 9:52hey, tell my family to quit looking for me.
- 9:55But make sure you can identify yourself so.
- 9:59Absolutely. And these are indigenous women,
- 10:01so their cases are often overlooked.
- 10:05There are so many missing indigenous women, so many
- 10:08missing black women. Any minorities are just I
- 10:12honestly swept under the rug by police and we're going to kind
- 10:15of delve into that a little bit today.
- 10:17Yeah, and Shannon is missing from the Choctaw tribe and
- 10:25Shanda is missing from the Cheyenne Arapaho tribes.
- 10:31So that's them. And I just want to make sure
- 10:36that we keep them in mind. And so now we're actually going
- 10:42to talk about another person who has passed away.
- 10:50He went missing at 1st and then he was found passed away.
- 10:55And there's a lot of controversy and a lot of mystery surrounding
- 11:00what happened to him. But just like who we covered a
- 11:04while back to Ron Evans Junior Jelani's case, we're going to be
- 11:10talking about Jelani Day. Jelani's case is also ruled may
- 11:15potentially a a suicide. And so, you know, his family
- 11:20doesn't believe it. I probably I yeah, I yeah.
- 11:25But we're going to go through all of the records and
- 11:28everything tonight and just look at it and thank you so much, MB
- 11:34Thank you so much. You're very kind and.
- 11:38It seems like there's a lot of police and even coroner
- 11:44interference or at least negligence in the very least.
- 11:50I'm not accusing anybody of anything, and I don't think that
- 11:54Jelani's family is either. But there's definitely a lot of
- 12:00overlooking of some details. And even with the way that the
- 12:04body was handled after, you know, during autopsies and
- 12:08stuff, leaves a lot of questions.
- 12:11And yeah, he went missing and he was found in a sundown town.
- 12:18And to anybody who doesn't know what that is, you know.
- 12:22This is Jelani. This is.
- 12:23Jelani Basically, sundown towns can really be anywhere in the
- 12:29country. I know they're a lot more
- 12:31prevalent in the South, but this is actually in the Midwest, in
- 12:34Illinois. But if you're a black or brown
- 12:37person of color, it's just a place that you definitely don't
- 12:40want to be at any time, but especially not after sundown
- 12:43because Lord knows what can happen to you.
- 12:45And, you know, while we definitely don't know what
- 12:49happened Jelani, it seems like there might be a correlation to
- 12:54where he's found and what happened to him.
- 12:56Yeah, we have. We have no idea, honestly.
- 12:59We're just going to go through the facts and come to our own
- 13:02conclusions. You know, we are going to have
- 13:07Carmen Bolden Day and possibly her daughter Takara, sorry,
- 13:15joining us next week. They will actually do a
- 13:18recording on Monday with me and then we'll play it for you guys
- 13:23and talk to you live while we're doing that.
- 13:26Oh, what time is it on Monday? We'll talk about it later, but.
- 13:30Oh, gotcha. OK.
- 13:31Yeah, but anyways on. Monday, that's where's.
- 13:34My eye, it's a, it's a, it's a later on in the day, so it's in
- 13:38the evening. When we're supposed to be at the
- 13:40competition. Well, I've already scheduled
- 13:44this, so it was already scheduled, so OK, we'll figure
- 13:48it out. Don't worry about it, We'll
- 13:50figure it out. So yeah, so my nephew is doing a
- 13:55skating competition. He's been competing the last few
- 13:58days so. And I haven't gone to be able to
- 14:00support him yet, so that's why I was wondering.
- 14:02But we'll figure something out. Yeah, we'll figure it out.
- 14:05Don't worry about it right now. So I.
- 14:06Was just asking. My bad, my bad.
- 14:09OK, so yeah, this is Jelani, and I feel like I know him just from
- 14:15all of the media that I have consumed on his case and
- 14:19everything. I actually started following
- 14:23this case from the beginning, 2021.
- 14:26Yeah, when it first happened, I, I guess because we live in
- 14:32Missouri, it caught my attention because it wasn't too far from
- 14:36where we live. And so I started following it.
- 14:40And I remember listening to Carmen, you know, talk about her
- 14:44son and, and what a great person Jelani was and, and what she was
- 14:50going through when I was cleaning, you know, and stuff
- 14:52back then. And so, yeah, I've just been
- 14:57following this since the beginning, but I kind of lost
- 15:00track after there was no more traction on the case.
- 15:05And that's why it's so important for us to bring everyone here
- 15:08today because even though our reach is small, every single eye
- 15:12that we can have on something like that matters.
- 15:14Every single voice that can speak out and potentially, you
- 15:18know, call the Police Department, call, you know,
- 15:20we'll ask. We'll ask his family what they
- 15:23believe that the best calls of action are.
- 15:25But that being said, we can't just let him be forgotten.
- 15:30It's been, what, years of 2025? Yeah, no, I, I'm looking at the
- 15:34year, but yeah, I know it's been, it's been years.
- 15:37And it can't just be something that can fade into the
- 15:39background, because if this is something that can happen to
- 15:42them, it's something that can happen to you.
- 15:44And we all have loved ones. And as I said before, any kind
- 15:50of minority is often cast aside and not their, their cases
- 15:56aren't treated the same. And so, yeah, we, we have some
- 16:00interesting stuff. Well, which has some stuff to
- 16:04get into, and our hearts are definitely with Jelani's entire
- 16:08family, and I think it's quite beautiful the way that they
- 16:10speak about his life. Yeah, that's actually one thing
- 16:12I do want to say is, is that his mom?
- 16:17She seems like a really great mother.
- 16:19She both. Jelani and the rest of her
- 16:22children. She has five children if I
- 16:23remember correctly. Yeah, I believe so.
- 16:25And. Every single one of them, except
- 16:28for one of one of Jelani's siblings, all of them went to
- 16:32grad school, including Jelani. And they're just very smart,
- 16:36very driven. Jelani was going to school to be
- 16:42a speech pathologist. It's said by his mother that he
- 16:47went to school for this because in elementary school he had a
- 16:50friend that had some intellectual disabilities and he
- 16:54often failed to be able to express himself in the way that
- 16:58a lot of other people deemed to be normal or appropriate.
- 17:01And he just went in and he would help him anytime that he was not
- 17:05being taken seriously, unfortunately, because of his
- 17:07disabilities. And he just wanted to help other
- 17:10people. So of course, it's an absolute
- 17:12tragedy anytime that somebody's missing or God forbid, passes
- 17:16away way, especially in such a well, you'll hear what happened
- 17:21to him a little bit, but we still don't really know what
- 17:24happened to him. But we just know how he was
- 17:26found and see that it was somebody that had such a
- 17:30promising future and somebody that was so loved.
- 17:33It's just really heartbreaking so.
- 17:36Yeah, it really is. And you can tell that he would
- 17:40have really done a lot in this world.
- 17:44And I still think he is going to do a lot through his foundation.
- 17:48They're actually helping other people of color and people who
- 17:57can't afford, you know, P is and helping them organize search
- 18:04teams and different things like that.
- 18:06You know, I mean, they're not paying for it for it, but
- 18:08they're trying to organize it and, you know, help people.
- 18:12And if you do donate, I think they do pay something.
- 18:16But, you know, they're just starting out.
- 18:18So the more you can help, the better.
- 18:21And they're not just, you know, collecting money for their
- 18:25family. They're collecting money to help
- 18:26people. So yeah.
- 18:29So please, you know, go look at the the Jelani Day Foundation.
- 18:33And it's LinkedIn in our description in the video.
- 18:37So we're just going to going to, we're just going to go over a
- 18:41short timeline of events and then we'll get into the actual
- 18:46documents and stuff like that. So, and I do want to thank
- 18:49somebody over on Reddit who sent me the FOIA's.
- 18:53Thank you very much for that. It was very helpful.
- 18:57I have not gone over them all. Excuse me.
- 19:03And so we're going to go over them together.
- 19:09OK. So Monday the 23rd of August, he
- 19:13was a grad program director, car boaster, exchanges coursework
- 19:19text with Jelani and expects to meet him the next morning at
- 19:237:20 AM. On Tuesday the 24th, he's at
- 19:28Boone Student Center on camera with a blue dress shirt.
- 19:32At 9:12 AM he goes to Beyond Hello Dispensary, he's on
- 19:37camera. He's in a Detroit Lions cap.
- 19:39Jimi Hendrix T no sightings after 9:25 AM because that's
- 19:44when he pulls off from the dispensary and we have the
- 19:47videos of that. Wednesday the 25th of August
- 19:53family and ISU faculty file missing persons report with
- 19:57Bloomington PD. Thursday the 26th of August,
- 20:01Peru PD finds Jelani's white Chrysler 300 hidden in the woods
- 20:05just South of the Illinois Valley.
- 20:08YMCA wallet, keys and phone were absent.
- 20:12Friday the 27th of August Peru PD label circumstances
- 20:17unexplained and suspicious. Saturday the 4th of September
- 20:23kayakers discover a male body on the South Bank of the Illinois
- 20:26River, one mile east of Illinois 125 sorry one mile east of the
- 20:33Illinois 251 bridge. Thursday the 23rd of September
- 20:38DNA and dental ID the remains as Jelani Jelani Day caused
- 20:44drowning. Manor undetermined.
- 20:46A little trouble. Puffs.
- 20:50Yeah. The car was hidden in the woods
- 20:53in a little area behind the Y, and we're going to look at it.
- 20:57I don't know if I found the exact place or not, but we'll
- 21:00try and look at that. So then let's see.
- 21:08October 2021 LaSalle Corner releases autopsy, debunks
- 21:13missing organs. Rumor notes severe
- 21:15decomposition. Monday the 15th of November,
- 21:19LaSalle County Sheriff confirms Jelani's iPhone has been found
- 21:23and sent to the FBI for deep forensic work.
- 21:26Monday the 13th of December FBI announces a $10,000 reward and a
- 21:32new multi agency Task force push for tips.
- 21:35Sorry about the Fly guys 2022 through 2025 ongoing FOIA
- 21:42trickle theme. I don't know what AAR is photo
- 21:49packs second autopsy witness reports, phone data screenshots,
- 21:54no final manner of death ruling yet OK, so that was just a a
- 22:02quick overview. His phone was found, I believe
- 22:06in 2023. I can't remember right now,
- 22:11we'll get into it, but so that's that's what happened so far.
- 22:17Found on the side of a highway, I.
- 22:19Believe yes, it was. It was.
- 22:22The man that found it, I think he stated that he was like
- 22:25bringing a mattress to his sister's house or something like
- 22:27that. And he stopped on the side of
- 22:30the road just for a break to figure out what was going on or
- 22:32something. And he got out of the car and he
- 22:34walked around and he just found a cell phone and he turned it
- 22:37in. And I mean, I could buy it, but
- 22:42it's it is a little odd. But I mean, stranger things have
- 22:45happened. I don't think the man was
- 22:46necessarily responsible for anything.
- 22:48But it's like, how did it get there on the side of the road?
- 22:50Yeah, that's definitely the question and by.
- 22:54His wallet was somewhere else. His wallet was found like in a
- 23:00Was it in somebody's yard or am I?
- 23:02Yeah, yeah, somebody's yard. But there's been different
- 23:05reports about it. So I'm not sure we're going to
- 23:08get into the actual reports and see what it actually says.
- 23:13But online, there's been a lot of misinformation from what I
- 23:19understand. And so we're going to try and
- 23:22not further that. We're going to try and just look
- 23:25at the documents that are out there.
- 23:28And I encourage everybody to go to Reddit's and look at what
- 23:32they've got there, Facebook, what they've got there, and.
- 23:36His mom's done quite a few interviews.
- 23:39She's done a lot. She's really putting her boots
- 23:41on the ground and trying to make sure that her son gets justice.
- 23:45And yeah, she really cares not just about her son, but about so
- 23:52many different people and hence why she started the Jelani Day
- 23:55Foundation. And I think they can really do
- 23:59some good things out of this. It's really an unfortunate,
- 24:02unfortunate circumstance, but they are doing the best and
- 24:05making the best out of it that they can so.
- 24:08So we are going to look at the McLean County Incident Summary
- 24:13or Summary report and this is dated 10/10/2023, but the
- 24:23incident narrative happened on 8/25/2021.
- 24:26So that's when they got the FOIA request.
- 24:29Oh gotcha that you're saying that's when it was booked?
- 24:33Sorry guys. OK.
- 24:34Are you just going through and reading it because?
- 24:36It's yeah, we're just. The whole thing.
- 24:38Yeah, OK. I mean, that's what we're here
- 24:41to do is to learn. Oh yeah, sure.
- 24:43I didn't know if you had like a Never mind.
- 24:45I just didn't know if we had a. OK, yeah, I don't have a
- 24:49synopsis of it. I just wanted to go through
- 24:52everything because I think that's the best way to do it is
- 24:54to just go through it and if you guys think that's boring, you
- 24:58can tell me, but otherwise I'm just going to do it like this.
- 25:02Let's see if it was some kind of accident, his belongings
- 25:07wouldn't be spread in different areas.
- 25:09Car would probably be parked in the open nut hidden, correct?
- 25:12Yeah, if he wanted to take his own life, then I find walking
- 25:20into river, especially when he is known to be a swimmer.
- 25:24He was an athlete his whole entire life and swimming was a
- 25:29big thing that he did. And his mom and brother just
- 25:32don't think that that's at all possible.
- 25:35And then on top of the fact that it's so hard to literally drown
- 25:38yourself, especially if you are someone who is comfortable in
- 25:44the water, you're not going to just spread all of your
- 25:47belongings everywhere and then just kind of run off, not tell
- 25:50anybody after keeping consistent contact with your mom.
- 25:54And something else is a huge thing is he was actually going
- 25:59through with giving his father a stem cell or some, I guess not
- 26:06him giving his father a stem cell transplant.
- 26:09So I can't talk but. He was using.
- 26:12Yeah, he was a donor. Sorry.
- 26:13That's what I meant to say. He was going to be a donor for
- 26:15his for his father. Sorry, I almost said husband.
- 26:19I don't know what I'm talking about.
- 26:20Sorry. I anyway OK.
- 26:23No, you're good. Laura But he was going to be a
- 26:25donor and it turns out in order to be a donor for stem cells,
- 26:29you have to go through I think like 3 or 4 different operations
- 26:32before they can even do the the transfer of stem cells.
- 26:37And from what I understand, I think he went through at least
- 26:41two or three of the surgeries or procedures or whatever they are,
- 26:45and he was getting ready to go in with the final steps.
- 26:49And his family firmly believes that because he wanted to help
- 26:54his father out so much, you know, along with plenty of other
- 26:58reasons why they believe he wouldn't take his own life.
- 27:00But just that alone makes it damn near impossible in their
- 27:04minds. And I I believe it as well.
- 27:08And then, unfortunately, his father did pass away.
- 27:11Yeah, he did. He had, I think they said, heart
- 27:15failure and leukemia. Yeah, I believe so.
- 27:17I can't remember at the moment but yeah his his father say they
- 27:22was sick and. And he passed away.
- 27:27What what do you recall what year it was?
- 27:29I believe it was. 2023 but I can't remember at the moment.
- 27:32So a little bit after. We'll get, we'll get more into
- 27:36that in our interview with Carmen.
- 27:39But yeah, no, I and so I know people say that it's hard to
- 27:46drown and that it's hard to drown yourself.
- 27:51But I I do have an experience where there was a woman that I
- 27:56went to church with who unfortunately took her life,
- 28:01drown in a drowning and she actually walked out on the beach
- 28:08and just walked out into the water.
- 28:11That's all I know. I definitely don't want to
- 28:14question anybody's pain, and I definitely don't.
- 28:17Well, what I'm going to say is because there's a big butt
- 28:19there, but I don't want to question somebody's pain that
- 28:22they're going through or invalidate their experience if
- 28:24they really did take their own life because that's a really
- 28:27hard place to be in. And you know, I also don't want
- 28:31to accuse anybody in her family. But also like, do we have any
- 28:35proof that that's actually what happened?
- 28:37Do we know that's actually what happened 'cause I mean, it is
- 28:40really hard to drown yourself to anybody that's tuning in now.
- 28:43We're not talking about Jelani, we're just.
- 28:44Talking about yeah, no, I, I am not going to go ask the family,
- 28:49you know, and I tried and I tried looking up information on
- 28:53it and I couldn't find anything on it.
- 28:56I just remember it happening. So yeah, I don't know.
- 29:02And then I did, my husband and I were actually married on the
- 29:09Illinois River, but it was in northwestern Oklahoma.
- 29:14No, northeastern Oklahoma. My bad.
- 29:18And so, you know, I, I think that this story caught my
- 29:24attention as well because it happened, you know, on the
- 29:26Illinois River. And so, yeah, we're just going
- 29:31to get into it. And please just bear with us.
- 29:34I have been sick. I was sick.
- 29:36And I also if anybody doesn't know, I broke my sacrum in a
- 29:43small motorcycle accident which. Is part of her tailbone.
- 29:46Yeah, part of my tailbone. I wouldn't.
- 29:47Have known that I didn't even know that.
- 29:50And so I was really, I've been in a lot of pain the last few
- 29:55days. But you're doing good here,
- 29:57true. So anyways, OK, so here we go.
- 30:02Incident narrative 182521. And to anybody who's just tuning
- 30:07in, we're just going to start going right into the docs just
- 30:10to try. And there's no speculation, it's
- 30:13just facts. Yep, reporting patrol officer.
- 30:17I can't even speak today. Would you like from?
- 30:18Yes, please reporting. Patrol Officer Jeffrey Widmer,
- 30:24BPDID Oh, I don't. I don't need to read all that.
- 30:26OK, on Wednesday 8/25/21 at 2057 hours I was dispatched to
- 30:32Brookridge Heights Apartments located at 3 One O 2 E Hamilton
- 30:36Road to check the whale check on the welfare of an individual.
- 30:40During this call I was equipped with body worn camera and the
- 30:43BWC video was flagged and my BWC camera was later placed in a
- 30:48docking station to be uploaded to evidence.com.
- 30:51Prior to completing this report, I have not reviewed portions of
- 30:54my BWC video. When I arrived in the scene, I
- 30:57met with the apartment maintenance manager.
- 31:00He stated that ISUPD called to request that we check on
- 31:03graduate student Jelani Day. I went with blank to Jelani's
- 31:07apartment. I entered the apartment and did
- 31:10not locate Jelani. There were school books.
- 31:13There were school books, clothes, luggage, toiletry
- 31:16items, and kitchenware that all appeared to be normal.
- 31:19Nothing appeared out of the ordinary in his apt.
- 31:22I spoke on the phone with Jelani's someone in relationship
- 31:26to Jelani. Oh to her.
- 31:28Sorry, I should have read a second.
- 31:30His mother. She said her son was in route to
- 31:33Bloomington to check on Jelani. She said Jelani usually calls
- 31:37her or one of his brothers every single day.
- 31:39No one has heard from him in two days.
- 31:42She said that they were made aware of this because an ISU
- 31:45professor contacted them asking about Jelani, which just decide
- 31:50now. I don't know the full context of
- 31:52this, but it seems as if Jelani's mother is no longer in
- 31:56contact with this professor because she started exhibiting
- 31:59some odd behaviors and I don't know if it was attributed to Oh,
- 32:02did you not call that? I don't know if it's attributed.
- 32:05Anything to his disappearance specifically, but in the way
- 32:11that she was talking about him or talking about her in the in
- 32:16the video that I watched earlier today while I was working, I was
- 32:18listening to it and it seemed as if she was implying that there
- 32:22might be a story there. But I don't know.
- 32:24I'm not accusing anybody of anything.
- 32:25Yeah, we don't want to. No, I was just just talking as I
- 32:29go along. No, you're good.
- 32:32I met with Blank at Jelani's apartment.
- 32:34Blank stated he wanted to list Jelani as a missing person.
- 32:37He stated that the last time they talked to Jelani was 2 days
- 32:40ago. His phone is going straight to
- 32:42voicemail. There's nothing to indicate that
- 32:44Jelani is endangered in any way. Jelani's vehicle was not located
- 32:48his apartment. His vehicle was a white Chrysler
- 32:50300 with a blacktop Illinois license plate number Blank.
- 32:55I checked with the hospitals and wrecker companies, they did not
- 32:57have any information on Jelani or his vehicle.
- 33:00BTBPDTCM Vanessa M entered the information into leads at
- 33:05approximately 2300 hours. I have no further information to
- 33:09add at this time. And then he asked for him to be
- 33:14assigned to the case for the follow up.
- 33:15OK. Sorry, I was grilling earlier
- 33:18and the supply is just all over the place.
- 33:20Oh, he got in because you had the doors open.
- 33:22The flies out here are crazy this year.
- 33:23But anyway, on Thursday 8/26/2021 at about 13-16 hours,
- 33:30I was asked to assist in locating Jelani J Day.
- 33:33It was reported missing by his family on Wednesday evening
- 33:38after reviews. After reviewing Officer Widmer's
- 33:40report at about O 952 hours, I contacted Jelani's mom to
- 33:45introduce myself and check for any updates.
- 33:48She indicated that she last spoke with Jelani at about 6:23
- 33:51PM on Monday, 8/23/2021. Further, Jelani's brother spoke
- 33:57with him at 9:40 PM that same evening.
- 34:00According to her, everything seemed normal with Jelani when
- 34:03they spoke with him that evening.
- 34:05She also mentioned that Jelani's instructor at ISU where Jelani
- 34:08and it where Jelani is in graduate program studying speech
- 34:12pathology, spoke with him at about 9:00 PM that evening.
- 34:16She identified Jelani's instructor.
- 34:19She told me that she and her family checked Jelani's bank
- 34:22statements. She said that she believes
- 34:24Jelani's bank card was last used at 4:56 AM on Tuesday,
- 34:298/24/2021. From viewing ISU Lieutenant
- 34:32Klepic's report, Jelani's red bird card was last wiped on
- 34:35Tuesday, August 24th, 2021 at about 650 hours.
- 34:40A little bit of clarification. That was at a Starbucks and it
- 34:44is believed to be something that he ordered online and that he
- 34:46was not physically present in the Starbucks at that time.
- 34:48I believe although so if I'm quoting correctly what I
- 34:53remember hearing, but I also feel like I also remember her
- 34:57saying something about how they did check a Starbucks.
- 35:00Yeah, I. Remember that, But I'll try and
- 35:03look into that and we'll clarify it a little more whenever we
- 35:05speak to his family. But I just thought of that.
- 35:09So anyway, at about 1032 hours I drove to Jelani's apartment at
- 35:14Eighteen O 5 Pier Way and met with Jelani's older brother and
- 35:18his father. He was allowed into Jelani's
- 35:22apartment by Brookridge Heights apartment maintenance.
- 35:25In short, he was hoping. He was hoping that something in
- 35:28Jelani's apartment would give some direction to his
- 35:29whereabouts. I drove to the Starbucks located
- 35:33at Starbucks St. Anyway, I don't know, I said
- 35:36Starbucks St. Sorry, I just I'm skipping some
- 35:39of the addresses. Anyway.
- 35:40Jelani Stanley believe that his debit card was used at Starbucks
- 35:43on Tuesday morning. Initially, they believe the card
- 35:45was swiped at Starbucks ISU's campus.
- 35:48However, the employees at that particular store believe the
- 35:50store was not even open when his card was used.
- 35:53I made contact with Blank who manages to Starbucks.
- 35:56I showed her a picture of Jelani.
- 35:58They told me that she has seen Jelani before saying he was a
- 36:02sweet kid but had no idea when she last saw him.
- 36:05She told me that Jelani likely uses Starbucks app to pay for
- 36:07his order before the store opened.
- 36:09So there we go, about 12 O 8 hours.
- 36:13I spoke with Jelani's instructor at ISU by phone.
- 36:16She confirmed that she last spoke with Jelani at about 9 PMI
- 36:19asked how Jelani was doing in the speech pathology program and
- 36:23if he had ever made any concerning statements to her.
- 36:25She told me that Jelani is the only male in the program, not to
- 36:28mention the fact that he is the only black individual in the
- 36:30program as Jelani seemed to be a bit of a loner.
- 36:35She told me when she spoke with Jelani, she made a point to ask
- 36:38him how he was doing as he struggled a bit in the program.
- 36:40Jelani is sure that he was great.
- 36:42He told me that though she is only known Jelani for a short
- 36:46period of time, she believes is not normal for him to be out of
- 36:48contact with everybody. So I just want to make a quick
- 36:51comment on that as well. Again, obviously I don't know
- 36:54Jelani. I can't speak as to the kind of
- 36:56person that he was and you know, his day-to-day activities in the
- 36:59way he acted. That being said, from listening
- 37:01to everything that his mother said, calling him a loner
- 37:05doesn't seem to be quite the right word.
- 37:08Maybe he was a loner in this class, but she talks about how
- 37:11he was super sociable, he was making friends, he was out and
- 37:14about all the time, traveling, hanging out.
- 37:16And obviously you could be more of a loner in like 1 class or
- 37:19one area of your life and not in another.
- 37:21But you know, maybe I'm just biased thinking about how I
- 37:25think I recall her saying there's something weird going on
- 37:27with the teacher. So I'm just noting, sorry, my
- 37:31little conspiracy brand I guess, but I'm just noting that she
- 37:35calls him a loner and then also says that he was struggling a
- 37:38little bit in the class. And again, I don't know what his
- 37:40grades are, but it seems like his neighbor is implying that he
- 37:43was doing well. And that doesn't really sound
- 37:45like struggling to me. But maybe when you're a grad
- 37:47student, if it's not high A is on everything, maybe that's
- 37:50considered struggling? I'm not really sure.
- 37:53But it seems like he was doing well in the classes and her just
- 37:57noting that just stuck out to me just from.
- 38:00But I think he missed some assignments.
- 38:03Yeah, I think he missed some assignments.
- 38:05I think he showed up late to a few meetings or something like
- 38:09that. I know he missed a meeting,
- 38:11which was the one they were supposed to have the day that he
- 38:12was missing. I don't remember hearing about
- 38:15it, but it doesn't mean it didn't.
- 38:16Happen from my understanding he missed a few meetings or was
- 38:20late to a few meetings or something like that and missed
- 38:24an assignment or two and I think he was just getting back into
- 38:29the groove of going back to school he.
- 38:32COVID time so we all know how that was.
- 38:34Well, yeah, but he was also, he went to Alabama.
- 38:42I can't remember where it's at now.
- 38:44I don't recall. Sorry, guys.
- 38:45I have cognitive problems. So if you're here to actually
- 38:48get like fluid information, that's not going to happen.
- 38:55Don't put yourself down. So anyways, he I think he was
- 38:59off for like 3 years of school and so he was volunteering at at
- 39:07church. I think he was substituting or
- 39:10something like that. He was doing quite a few things.
- 39:13He was very heavily involved in his church and hello.
- 39:15Fron. Hello.
- 39:17He was super involved in his church, and that's something
- 39:19that his family wants him to be remembered for.
- 39:24His mother says that, you know, she took him to church every
- 39:28Sunday whenever he was growing up.
- 39:30And she was really happy to find that he would just go on his
- 39:34own. Even when the church kind of
- 39:38moved to Zoom during the pandemic, he would go on to the
- 39:41Bible studies and such on the Zoom calls and would sometimes
- 39:44even call her out for not showing up to them when she was
- 39:46out of town or busy with other things.
- 39:48And they would talk about, you know, just his faith and
- 39:51everything and that, you know, I think that's beautiful.
- 39:53And so, you know, whether you believe in God or not, I think
- 39:57it's very lovely to think about him being with his Creator right
- 40:01now. And that can be the very
- 40:04smallest bit of hope and happiness that we can have.
- 40:07Yeah, I heard, I heard Carmen talking once about how after he
- 40:15passed, his birthday came up and, you know, she wanted to go
- 40:19to the grave and be with them. And, you know, that's a hard,
- 40:26hard feeling. But I believe that Jelani is not
- 40:30there. And I believe that he is
- 40:33somewhere much better than in the ground.
- 40:36And so I I take hope and in the fact that he is somewhere, I
- 40:42believe in a good place now, even though we would much rather
- 40:46him be here. Yes, definitely, but it's
- 40:49something that brings his family comfort and hope, and I hope
- 40:52that to those that it can provide the same, it can provide
- 40:55the same. That being said, I'm going to
- 40:57continue with a little bit more of that.
- 40:59I just had, you know, some side points to make as normal.
- 41:03OK? Later in the afternoon, I spoke
- 41:05again with Jelani's mom. I asked if she would be OK with
- 41:08us posting Jelani as missing on our City of Bloomington Police
- 41:11Facebook page. I requested that we do
- 41:14everything or she requested that we do everything possible to
- 41:17help locate her son. She told me that she would have
- 41:21to send me a picture of Jelani. I obtained the pictures a few
- 41:25minutes later and asked Public Information Officer John Furman
- 41:29to post Jelani as a missing person on the Facebook page.
- 41:33On Thursday, August 26th, 2021, at approximately 730 hours, I
- 41:38went or I read a notification from a faculty member who
- 41:41expressed concern for a graduate student.
- 41:43But oh, this is the same exact thing I think, or very similar.
- 41:48I'm just reading through real quick to see, OK, it's a little
- 41:51bit different, but I'm just going to go ahead and read
- 41:54through even though some of it's the same, so bear with us.
- 41:58I who expressed concern for a graduate student by the name of
- 42:01Jelani Day. According to her, Day had not
- 42:04shown up for his class and was unable to be reached by phone.
- 42:07Next, I searched for Day in EJS and learn BPD officer Jeff
- 42:12Widmer generated a missing person, a missing person report
- 42:15for Day last night. Based on Officer Windermer's
- 42:19report, his mother, his ISU emergency contact, spoke to
- 42:23Officer Windermere and indicated a concern for her son's
- 42:28well-being. But the vehicle with the vehicle
- 42:31information provided an Officer Windmere's report.
- 42:35I contacted ISU Parking and Transportation Services and
- 42:39inquired if they had contact with Day's vehicle.
- 42:41According to the records, his vehicle was cited for parking
- 42:44violations on Wednesday, August 18th, Alamo 2 lot and Friday,
- 42:48August 20th South University Parking Garage.
- 42:52The South University Parking garage was checked by ISUPD
- 42:55officers and negative or with negative results.
- 42:59Day's red bird card was last swiped on Tuesday, August 24th,
- 43:022021 at 650 hours to gain access to room Three O 9 in Fairchild
- 43:07Hall. Fairchild Hall.
- 43:10It was learned this room was a computer lab.
- 43:12ISUPD Officer Ericsson checked into the room and met with the
- 43:16students present. All new of day and were aware of
- 43:19his missing status but had not seen him since Tuesday morning.
- 43:22At approximately 11 O five hours I searched the parking lots at
- 43:26Brookridge Heights Apartments in Bloomington where he resides for
- 43:29his vehicle, however I was unsuccessful in locating it.
- 43:32This concludes my involvement. So now moving on.
- 43:36On 8/26/2021 at about 1550 hours, I spoke with Jelani's ISU
- 43:41instructor. She advised me that another
- 43:43student spoke with Jelani after class on Monday.
- 43:45After about two PMI spoke briefly with them by by phone,
- 43:49who told me that Jelani was having difficulty finding his
- 43:52car that afternoon and that she drove him around to help locate
- 43:55the vehicle. When she and Jelani couldn't
- 43:57find the vehicle, she dropped Jelani back off By Fairchild
- 44:00Hall, The ISUPD Officer Lulo's report For more information.
- 44:04At about 4:35 PMI received a call back from Blank.
- 44:09She advised me that ISU was able to look up his computer logs.
- 44:13From the logs, they believe that Jelani was last logged in at
- 44:166:59 AM on Tuesday morning. She also mentioned that Jelani
- 44:20was supposed to go over to health services that morning.
- 44:23Later in the afternoon at 1654 hours, Bloomington PD dispatch
- 44:28received a call from Officer Mark Credi of Peru in Peru being
- 44:33that quote, UN quote, sundown town, allegedly that he was
- 44:37found in Police Department after Officer Creddy.
- 44:42I feel like I'm saying all these people's names wrong, but it's
- 44:44fine. It seems like they're not very
- 44:47helpful people anyway so they can deal with it.
- 44:49Officer Creddy advised me that someone from the YMCA called in
- 44:54suspicious vehicle at about 1621 hours.
- 44:57According to Officer Creddy, White 2010 Chrysler 300 with no
- 45:00license plates was was located in the woods South of YMCA.
- 45:05That's another thing, there were no license plates.
- 45:07If he's going to go take his life, he's going to take off the
- 45:10license plates. And there was a loose license
- 45:13plate in the in the car, in the trunk, but it wasn't.
- 45:17It wasn't his. Did they identify whose it was I
- 45:20had? No idea.
- 45:21OK, Officer Cruddy explained the vehicle was not in the normal
- 45:25parking lot area, but rather was down the hill in the brushwoods.
- 45:29Officer Cruddy mentioned that someone at the YMCA noticed the
- 45:32vehicle there the previous day but did not call the vehicle.
- 45:35And at the time, Officer Cruddy told me that the license plate
- 45:39had been stripped off the vehicle, but they were able to
- 45:42run the VIN number and determine that the vehicle was associated
- 45:44with missing person Jelani Day. Officer Cruddy advised me that
- 45:48they located some luggage in the backseat of the vehicle.
- 45:51Outside the vehicle. Officers located a face mask, a
- 45:54lighter, and a coin next to the driver's door.
- 45:57Officer Cruddy advised me that the detective Brad Jones was
- 46:00responsible was responding to the scene to determine if there
- 46:03was any foul play. After about 17-11 hours, I
- 46:07requested that BPD dispatch contact Verizon.
- 46:10Sorry. OK, so let's just from what fell
- 46:16out of the door when he opened the door, a face mask, a lighter
- 46:22and a coin next to the driver's door.
- 46:25So he went and bought a blunt at Hello Beyond Hello Dispensary
- 46:33before he actually that's the last place he was seen.
- 46:37So it makes sense a lighter. Yeah, but I was thinking.
- 46:40So I guess he had to actually walk quite away.
- 46:43If he was the one who parked the car there, he would have had to
- 46:47have walked, you know, like over a mile.
- 46:50And it was like in a kind of deserted area, from my
- 46:56understanding from that. He was found or where the.
- 46:59Where the So from where the car was found to where he was found,
- 47:05he would have had to walk quite a a while.
- 47:10So you think if he was actually going to go down there and
- 47:13purposely take his life or purposely go down there and he
- 47:17accidentally falls into the river, OK, wouldn't he be
- 47:21smoking the blunt down there instead of smoking the blunt in
- 47:24the car on the way? Up there.
- 47:27Yeah. Well, it didn't say that they
- 47:28found the blunt. It was in the car though.
- 47:30Oh, the blunt was in the car. Yeah.
- 47:31OK. Because I was thinking like
- 47:33hypothetically, OK, I go out and I go to the woods and I smoke
- 47:36blunt sometimes and I'm a girl so it's extra unsafe.
- 47:42But that being said, you know, I'm just thinking, OK, well I
- 47:45have multiple lighters, so I was thinking, OK, one lighter being.
- 47:47Found, you know, and he ended up.
- 47:48Another one he ended up this. Was an hour away from the
- 47:52dispensary. An hour away from the
- 47:54dispensary. And again, I don't know why he
- 47:55was in this town, but again, I was thinking, well, maybe he
- 47:58went down, he parked at the Y, he's like, OK, I'm going to go
- 48:01smoke this blunt real quick. And then maybe something
- 48:03happened there. But if he didn't even have the
- 48:05blunt, then I don't even know what he'd be doing out there,
- 48:07period. OK.
- 48:08Just a second. OK, we see beyond.
- 48:12Hello, the Illinois State University.
- 48:16Oh, oh, my bad. It wasn't on the screen yet.
- 48:18OK, so this is right here is Illinois State University.
- 48:26So he starts out there and he goes over here to beyond Hello
- 48:31and. How far are those away from each
- 48:34other? I think they're like 8 minutes
- 48:35away. So what I think the map.
- 48:40So then he leaves. He he sits in the parking lot
- 48:46for 5 minutes at beyond Hello and then he leaves and then he
- 48:51comes out this way and goes down here and this is where his phone
- 48:55is found is down here and then he goes all the way up here.
- 49:03Sorry, goes all the way up here and drives and an hour and 37
- 49:12minutes basically to the YMCYMC. A and he had a YMCMYMCA
- 49:21membership, do you remember? You know, I don't know if he had
- 49:25a YMCA membership, but I wouldn't.
- 49:27I wouldn't doubt it if he did because he was a swimmer and an
- 49:31athlete. Yeah.
- 49:33So that wouldn't surprise me at all.
- 49:35But that's kind of random that he would go over here and then
- 49:40down here and then back up and then up in all the way up here.
- 49:48It's a little odd, yeah. Yeah, and his family says that
- 49:51he doesn't know anybody up here. And as you said, it's supposedly
- 49:57a sundown town. And which?
- 50:00Is not friendly and. The place.
- 50:02That you would expect him to be at all.
- 50:04Yeah. And my husband actually he, he
- 50:08lived outside of Detroit, MI. He grew up around there and at a
- 50:16Detroit beach and it was predominantly, I think he said
- 50:21it was predominantly black. It was he was more of the
- 50:26minority in, in that area. And so when he moved to
- 50:33Missouri, we're not going to tell talk about the town, but
- 50:36when he moved to Missouri, he moved to this very small town.
- 50:41And it was a huge culture shock to him for one thing.
- 50:46And then for another, he found out that it was a sun downtown
- 50:50and he had no idea what that was.
- 50:52They didn't know what that was. They just had moved there
- 50:55because I believe his, his dad's friend lived in the area and so
- 51:01they wanted to be around each other.
- 51:02So, yeah, so he has a little bit of of experience with that and
- 51:10he said it can be pretty bad. And actually, Mariah, we do know
- 51:14who Dave Politis is. I have actually reached out to
- 51:17Dave Politis and asked him to be on his media manager I believe,
- 51:23or one of his guys has gotten back to me and they asked me for
- 51:30for my information and my stats and stuff.
- 51:32They're numbers guys, but that's OK.
- 51:34Yeah, and it's fine because he says he only does a couple of
- 51:38interviews a year. And so hopefully, you know, hey,
- 51:43get our numbers up and maybe we can get Dave Politis on here.
- 51:46See what we. Can do.
- 51:47But yeah, she definitely talks about them a decent bit.
- 51:49So we know who, we know who that.
- 51:51Is yes, I I love Dave Politis. So.
- 51:55So yeah, I just, I thought that that was just an interesting way
- 51:59to drive, you know? Especially when you don't know
- 52:02anybody in the area, at least nobody that anybody that you
- 52:06know knows about. And from what I understand, I
- 52:10don't think there's really any text messages that really
- 52:13indicated him going over there. Yeah, that's what I want to
- 52:17know. I want to know.
- 52:18What? They're really weird with the
- 52:19phone. I know I want to know what the
- 52:21GPS on the phone said because a kid like him, I'm going to call
- 52:27him a kid because he's a kid to me.
- 52:30You know, a kid like him leaving a university that he's not
- 52:34familiar with is going to put his GPS on to find out where
- 52:38he's going, unless he just decides to drive aimlessly.
- 52:43But as far as I know, that's not the type of person that that he
- 52:49was, you know, but we all do things randomly from time to
- 52:53time. So we can't say that it's out of
- 52:55the realm of possibility. But to go to a place that is a
- 53:01sun downtown now I did, I was wondering if he was walking
- 53:07around there, would he be noticed?
- 53:12And from all the research I did, it said that no, he wouldn't
- 53:16necessarily be noticed, especially if it was during the
- 53:20day. But the people that live there,
- 53:24like it's not like when they, it's not like, it's not like,
- 53:27you know, what do they call people like with dementia when
- 53:31they have like the sundowner thing?
- 53:32Like it's not like they like like a switch flips or something
- 53:36like, you know what I'm saying? Like it's not like a switch
- 53:38flips in their mind. As soon as like the phone goes
- 53:40down, if people are shitting in the area and they're prejudice,
- 53:43they're going to be prejudice day or night.
- 53:45They just might not act in the day.
- 53:47So I don't know how accurate that would be.
- 53:49No, no, I was just, yeah, I just did some research and it was
- 53:53just talking about that. There is quite a bit of traffic
- 53:56in that area. I think there's the university
- 53:58or something over there as well. So just even like in Dad's
- 54:03situation, you know, it was a small town next to an area with
- 54:08the university, but there's like so many universities in this
- 54:12area. It's we're really crazy.
- 54:15So but yeah, I, I just, I just wonder if the he was using his
- 54:20GPS, what he was doing. Hey, Cobb.
- 54:24And yeah. So that was just one thing that.
- 54:28Oh oh. Yeah, I got it.
- 54:31OK, you gotta keep. Talking.
- 54:33You're talking already. OK, so yeah, anyways, I was just
- 54:40wondering. I wouldn't go anywhere without
- 54:42Agps and you're going to have to find the.
- 54:45Yeah, his brother. Also over there on the side.
- 54:50OK, it's more confusing anyway, but his brother said I don't
- 54:55know what this is at. All.
- 54:57There you go. Am I even in the right spot?
- 55:01Just figure it. Out.
- 55:03Just keep talking. So yeah, I can't remember I was
- 55:09talking about, but yeah, from what I understand, at least in
- 55:14the 90s it was still very much happening as they were actually
- 55:21chasing people out of towns. So it was something that my
- 55:26husband had never experienced before.
- 55:29And yeah, we won't even talk about it 'cause it was crazy.
- 55:34OK. I think I found kind of where I
- 55:37was at. This might be a little bit
- 55:42inaccurate as to where I'm at, but it's at least like one page
- 55:45over and they generally have very similar information.
- 55:47So I'm just going to pick up where I think I left off about
- 55:521515 hours or 1550 hours. I spoke with Jelani's ISU
- 55:56instructor. She advised me that another
- 55:58student spoke with Jelani after class on Monday.
- 56:00After about two PMI spoke briefly by phone who told me
- 56:04that Jelani was having difficulty finding his car that
- 56:07afternoon and that she had drove him around to help locate the
- 56:10vehicle. When she had.
- 56:11Jelani couldn't find the vehicle she dropped.
- 56:14She dropped Jelani back off by Fairchild Hall about 435 PMI
- 56:20received a call back from blank. She advised me that ISU was able
- 56:24to look up his computer logs. From the logs, it's believed
- 56:27that Jelani was last logged in at 6:59 AM on Tuesday morning.
- 56:32She also mentioned that Jelani was supposed to go over to
- 56:34health services that morning. So do you find it odd that he
- 56:38couldn't find his car? Yeah.
- 56:43That is a little odd, don't know why.
- 56:48I mean, he'd only been there for a few weeks I think.
- 56:53Yeah, I mean, I get lost all the time, but I don't know, maybe it
- 56:56was. I don't know, I don't know.
- 56:58I don't know, but later in the afternoon at 1654 hours,
- 57:03Bloomington PD dispatch received a call from Officer Mark Credit,
- 57:07Peru Police Department after Credit advised me that someone
- 57:11from the YMCA called in suspicious vehicle in about 1621
- 57:15hours. According to Officer Credit,
- 57:17White 2010 Chrysler 300 with no license plates is located in the
- 57:21woods South of the YMCA. Officer Credit explained that
- 57:25the vehicle was not in a normal parking lot area, but rather was
- 57:28down a hill in the brushwoods. Officer Cruddy mentioned that
- 57:32someone at the YMCA noticed the vehicle there the previous day
- 57:35but did not call in the vehicle at the time.
- 57:37Officer Cruddy told me that though the license plates had
- 57:40been stripped off the vehicle, they were able to run the VIN
- 57:42number to determine the vehicle was associated with missing
- 57:45person Jelani Day. Officer Cruddy advised me that
- 57:48they locate some luggage in the back, see the vehicle outside
- 57:52the vehicles. Officers located a face mask, a
- 57:54lighter, and a coin next to the driver's door.
- 57:57Officer Officer Cuddy advised me that Detective Brad Jones was
- 58:01responding to the scene to determine if there was any foul
- 58:04play. In about 17-11 hours I requested
- 58:08BPD Dispatch to contact Verizon requesting that they ping
- 58:11Jelani's phone or provide us the last known location of Jelani's
- 58:16cell phone. At about 1748 hours.
- 58:20TC Barb Pinkaman advised me that his last location for Blank was
- 58:24about one point or was about .19 miles north northeast of the
- 58:28following GPS coordinates. The last ping was about O 921
- 58:33hours on 8/24/21. It's a place the device near the
- 58:36intersection of Veterans Parkway and GE Rd. at 09/21 hours on O
- 58:428/24/2021. Later in the night at about two
- 58:46or 2120 hours I responded to 300 Walnut St.
- 58:49Peru, IL with Detective Schwarzen Truber, OK Schwarzen
- 58:56Truber and a crime scene detective Tim Marble.
- 59:01Upon our arrival, we met with the with Detective Brad Jones
- 59:05who showed us a scene where the vehicle was located.
- 59:09Detective Brad Jones advised us that they conducted A canine
- 59:12track from the vehicle to attempt the location of to
- 59:15attempt location of Jelani Day. Detective Jones also mentioned
- 59:19that the Utica Oglesby Ground Search team responded and
- 59:22conducted the ground search of the area.
- 59:25Further, they completed drone aerial searches with Peru and
- 59:28Utica Utica fire drones. Ultimately, Jelani Day was not
- 59:32located in the area. Detective Brad Jones told me
- 59:35that he was advised by responding officers at the YMCA.
- 59:38Cameras did not capture the area where Jelani's vehicle was
- 59:42found. I think that his mom implied
- 59:46that they said that they just didn't work at all the cameras,
- 59:49Not just that they didn't pick up Jelani, but that they just
- 59:51didn't work, which is a little odd.
- 59:53Why would a business, especially a business that has so many
- 59:57families, so many people coming in and out?
- 1:00:00It was farther behind in a wooded area behind the YMCA.
- 1:00:05But I thought she would imply that the cameras just didn't
- 1:00:07work at all. I could be wrong, don't quote me
- 1:00:11that or quote me on that as like the word of God, but I think I
- 1:00:13recall her saying that the cameras just weren't working
- 1:00:15period. So I could be wrong again.
- 1:00:18But that's what I feel like I remember anyway.
- 1:00:24The top. OK, gotcha.
- 1:00:27BPD Crime scene Detective Marvel processed the area surrounding
- 1:00:30the vehicle. We determined that that as
- 1:00:33Jolani was still missing, we Bloomington PD would have the
- 1:00:36vehicle towed to the Sally Port of the Bloomington Police
- 1:00:40Department and would apply for a search warrant to search the
- 1:00:42vehicle. I contacted Bloomington dispatch
- 1:00:45and requested they send Joe's Towing to our location to have
- 1:00:48the vehicle towed back to the Sally port.
- 1:00:50It should be noted that while we are waiting for Joe's Towing to
- 1:00:53arrive, I learned that a news article had surfaced linking
- 1:00:56this missing person case to the ground search that was conducted
- 1:00:59in the Peru, IL area. As I did not wish to lose
- 1:01:02credibility with Jelani's family, I contacted Jelani's mom
- 1:01:07to inform her that Jelani's vehicle had been located in
- 1:01:09Peru. She advised me that she and
- 1:01:12several family members were already already on their way up
- 1:01:15to Peru at about 2315 hours and several of her family members
- 1:01:20arrived at the YMCA just north of Blank.
- 1:01:23I was wearing a department issue body worn camera when I spoke
- 1:01:27with Jelani's family. The BWC footage was later
- 1:01:31uploaded to evidence.com. It just tells you how to view
- 1:01:35the video footage. While speaking with Jelani's
- 1:01:38family, she reminded me that Jelani took a trip to Houston
- 1:01:42over his past weekend. I later learned that the trip
- 1:01:45was from Friday 8/20/21 to Sunday 8/22/21.
- 1:01:50I she mentioned that before Jelani went on his trip to
- 1:01:53Houston, he mentioned feeling weird vibes from two of his best
- 1:01:56friends. I don't remember hearing about
- 1:01:58that. That's weird.
- 1:02:00Jelani, according to his mother, I believe, felt like they were
- 1:02:04plotting against him. I don't know why I don't
- 1:02:07remember. Hearing about that, I think it
- 1:02:08was his sister. I think he told his sister this.
- 1:02:11Oh, I'm not sure. Said that OK one of his family
- 1:02:15members. Regardless, when I asked why he
- 1:02:17thought that, she told me that Jelani had dreamt about it.
- 1:02:21OK. She later identified these
- 1:02:25friends as Blank and Blank, who was known as a bunch of redacted
- 1:02:31stuff in Danville, IL told me she asked Jelani if he had a
- 1:02:35falling out with them. Jelani allegedly responding by
- 1:02:38telling Blank that no, they did not have a falling out.
- 1:02:42Blank also wanted me to know that she spoke with one of her
- 1:02:45cousins since Jelani was missing.
- 1:02:49Was allegedly. I don't see what that says.
- 1:02:51Oh oh gotcha. Allegedly told by 1 of Jelani's
- 1:02:54friends that he and Jelani had purchased more weed than usual
- 1:02:58either this last Sunday or the Sunday before.
- 1:03:01From speaking with Jelani's family, I learned that the large
- 1:03:03amount of weed for Jelani is still a fairly insignificant
- 1:03:06amount and that he was not selling the cannabis.
- 1:03:08As far as they are aware, it's a legal state.
- 1:03:10That would be dumb. Anyway, I asked Jelani's family
- 1:03:13if he went to Houston for the purpose of picking up a large
- 1:03:16amount of weed. I was advised that Jelani did
- 1:03:18not pick up any weed while in Houston.
- 1:03:20Also I just want to state the fact that it was a black man
- 1:03:23picking up weed might have a lot to do with why they're not
- 1:03:26taking it seriously. Obviously we want to totally say
- 1:03:30that it doesn't matter what substances you take or anything.
- 1:03:34And especially weed in a weed legal state.
- 1:03:37Completely recreational. People in Illinois smoke the
- 1:03:39hell out of weed, and people in Missouri smoke the hell out of
- 1:03:42weed too. OK.
- 1:03:43So I mean, I'm just, I am coming up.
- 1:03:48I'm putting that on somebody. You know, I don't know for sure,
- 1:03:52but I'm willing to bet that him being a black man that had some
- 1:03:56weed on him made them think a certain type of way about him,
- 1:04:00which smoking weed doesn't make you any different.
- 1:04:04It's fucking ridiculous. I'm sorry for using language on
- 1:04:07your stream, but it's it's ridiculous.
- 1:04:09And again, I'm kind of projecting here.
- 1:04:12I don't know if this is really what's going on, but I just see
- 1:04:14it as something that would be a potential and we all know how
- 1:04:18police can be. I'm not saying every single
- 1:04:19person that has ever been a police officer is the worst
- 1:04:21person in the world, but systematically.
- 1:04:25Even when it comes to white people, if they have a mental
- 1:04:33illness or they have any kind of drugs on them or, or anything
- 1:04:40like that, they will just ignore it or do as little as possible.
- 1:04:46And so, yeah, it's unfortunate. It's like your life doesn't
- 1:04:51matter. Yeah, it's it's ridiculous.
- 1:04:53Yeah, tattoos and piercings. Tattoos and piercings?
- 1:04:56Oop, I'm screwed anyway. So Detective Brad Jones asked
- 1:05:04Jelani's family if he was having any mental health challenges or
- 1:05:07if he had had any mental health challenges in the past.
- 1:05:10The family did not believe so, but commented on his large
- 1:05:12workload, clinical schedule, and the fact that he recently picked
- 1:05:16up a part time job at Outback Steakhouse.
- 1:05:19Jelani's family did mention that he was hired at Outback, but he
- 1:05:22didn't show up twice. As he failed to show up, he did
- 1:05:25not keep the job. I later learned from the
- 1:05:27Bloomington YMCA Director of Operations that Jelani was also
- 1:05:31hired at the YMCA in Bloomington, IL back in April
- 1:05:35when Jelani did not show up for training on his first day of
- 1:05:37work, he and Jelani agree that the job would likely not be a
- 1:05:40good fit for him. So it seems like he might have
- 1:05:43actually been going through some stuff.
- 1:05:44But regardless, that doesn't mean you're necessarily going to
- 1:05:48take your life, especially in such a random place, in such a
- 1:05:52weird way. I don't think that Jelani seemed
- 1:05:54like the type of person to be like, you know what?
- 1:05:57I'm going to take my own life and on top of that I'm going to
- 1:06:00leave a little trail of bread crumbs to confuse people.
- 1:06:03Well, yeah. And on top of that, he loved his
- 1:06:05family so much that I genuine, I genuinely don't unless I see
- 1:06:11something different. As of right now, I, I, I see
- 1:06:14that he's having issues and it could just be issues settling in
- 1:06:19because, you know, he's moving to a new town, a new apt, a new
- 1:06:24school, and his dad sick. So, yeah, I mean, there's a lot
- 1:06:32going on, but some of us have gone through a lot and still
- 1:06:38keep on trucking. So I can't say that, you know,
- 1:06:43that would all of that would cause him to take his life.
- 1:06:48And the fact that he his dad was depending on him and his family
- 1:06:52was depending on him leads me to believe that he wouldn't do
- 1:06:58that. But unless I see something
- 1:07:00different. Again, I don't believe that he
- 1:07:02would do it just by the way that it seems he cared about his
- 1:07:04family and not to say that somebody that takes their own
- 1:07:07life doesn't care about their family.
- 1:07:09That being said, again, worst case scenario that he was going
- 1:07:13to take his life. It doesn't strike me.
- 1:07:15He doesn't strike me as the kind of person that again, would RIP
- 1:07:18off his license plate, drive, you know, an hour and a half
- 1:07:22north of where he was at. And then, you know, throw his
- 1:07:27phone on the side of the highway all the way back past where the
- 1:07:32dispensary even was and then throw his wallet, I think
- 1:07:36potentially in somebody's yard. Like I I think he would at least
- 1:07:41leave a note or make it very obvious what had happened.
- 1:07:45If very worst case scenario, it just it sounds absolutely.
- 1:07:48Ridiculous. Well, and the fact that his the
- 1:07:51car that he was driving was his grandfather's car and it was
- 1:07:55really special to him. And so I believe that if he were
- 1:08:00going to take his life, he would make sure that that car would be
- 1:08:05able to be found so that somebody in his family would be
- 1:08:09able to. Take care of it not in the
- 1:08:11middle of the woods with license plates ripped off and a random
- 1:08:15license plate in the trunk. Yeah, it is weird.
- 1:08:17Do they know whose license plate it?
- 1:08:18Is but no, but some people say that it may have been from the
- 1:08:23person who owned it before, you know when he took off the.
- 1:08:27I have had actually a previous license plate in my car before.
- 1:08:32Yeah. OK, so again, I'm not saying,
- 1:08:35yeah, anyway, we're already an hour in.
- 1:08:39I don't even think we're going to get to a lot of the stuff.
- 1:08:41But I do want to say that's the only reason why I asked earlier
- 1:08:44about if we were going to read through page by page instead of,
- 1:08:47you know, certain things. But that being said, maybe we'll
- 1:08:51get a little bit more to it next week whenever we talk to his
- 1:08:54family. But it seems like there was a
- 1:08:57lot of weird stuff happening with the coroner.
- 1:09:01They, I actually think he was a forensic pathologist and then
- 1:09:06there was a coroner and then there was somebody else.
- 1:09:07But they got three different autopsies on his body.
- 1:09:11And the difference between the first one and the last two are
- 1:09:18night and day differences. And it seems like the first
- 1:09:21autopsy, the guy who performed that is really the only person
- 1:09:26who seems to imply drowning or suicide.
- 1:09:30It seems that there was no water found in his lungs, his body was
- 1:09:35completely attacked, teeth were knocked out of his skull and
- 1:09:41even whenever they transferred to the second and third people
- 1:09:46that would do the autopsy his I think they said his pancreas was
- 1:09:50missing or maybe it was a spleen and his like head was cut open
- 1:09:55in a weird way. And it seems like a lot of the
- 1:09:59ways that he was operated on post mortem were completely
- 1:10:02contradictory to any other way that anybody else would
- 1:10:06traditionally be operated on or looked into.
- 1:10:12So it's just some weird stuff. And then also, it seems, and I
- 1:10:15think there are actually some documents on this, but it looks
- 1:10:19like there might have been a group chat between different
- 1:10:24coroners and people of that nature in the area.
- 1:10:26And I think they had some sort of an association.
- 1:10:29I wish I remember exactly what it was off the top of my head,
- 1:10:31but the president of that group requested that they do like AI
- 1:10:39guess a peer review or just a giant review between all of them
- 1:10:43to look into Jelani specifically because things just seem so
- 1:10:48weird. And he was actually denied.
- 1:10:51They said no. And this guy was the president
- 1:10:53of whatever organization it was. And then on top of that, he
- 1:10:57actually ended up resigning from his position and saying that the
- 1:11:00reason why he resigned from his position was because he felt
- 1:11:03like there was foul play involved with Jelani Day's case
- 1:11:06and felt like the police officers and everybody that are
- 1:11:10supposed to be investigating and helping the family were up to no
- 1:11:13good. Yeah.
- 1:11:14And we want to make sure that, you know, we don't blame people,
- 1:11:19but at the same time, we want to hold them accountable.
- 1:11:22I'm not. Saying anyone specifically did
- 1:11:24anything. I'm not saying they're involved
- 1:11:26in it, but they're definitely being negligent.
- 1:11:29Yeah, at the very least. OK, So Joy, I think this, I
- 1:11:33think this is the area where his car was found.
- 1:11:37So it's just this area that's behind the YMCA is up here, so
- 1:11:46kind. OF looks like a little parking
- 1:11:48spot if someone might want to go on a little hike and smoke.
- 1:11:52And so I think he had to like walk that way or something like
- 1:11:58that to get to it. But so, yeah, the the YMCA is up
- 1:12:03this road and then you turn and then you turn right back into
- 1:12:08the YMCA. Potentially he was thinking
- 1:12:10about getting out smoking. Someone stopped.
- 1:12:12Him, yeah, but why would he drive an hour and a half and
- 1:12:17then smoke is blunt there, not take it with him and then walk
- 1:12:23off? Was it partially smoked?
- 1:12:25Yeah, it, it had been smoked. Yeah, it had been smoked.
- 1:12:29Also, I don't know if there's any like, hard evidence on this,
- 1:12:33but Jelani's mother, in reviewing the security camera
- 1:12:37footage from the dispensary. Hello.
- 1:12:41What was it beyond the hello? Gotcha.
- 1:12:46So anyway, she said that at least to her, it looked like
- 1:12:50there could have been sorry. My dog's moving around on me and
- 1:12:55he's hurting me. I don't have anything you can
- 1:12:57crawl underneath anyway. But it seems, what was I even
- 1:13:02saying? Sorry, he distracted me.
- 1:13:05Oh yeah, she said that she thought that he had some.
- 1:13:09Got it. Sorry.
- 1:13:12It looked like there might have been a shadow in the car in the
- 1:13:14passenger seat. So there's no evidence to prove
- 1:13:18that there definitively was somebody in the passenger seat
- 1:13:20or not. It seems like everybody else
- 1:13:22didn't really think that, but she definitely thought that.
- 1:13:24Let's look like that. I'm gonna find that video.
- 1:13:30Hold on. I had it pulled up earlier but
- 1:13:33it looks looks like here it is. How was the foot this footage?
- 1:13:41I guess we'll decide for ourselves.
- 1:13:44OK. This is the footage from Beyond
- 1:13:47Hello, Which again was the the dispensary that he was at.
- 1:14:00Yeah, that's his car. OK, that's one.
- 1:14:12It's coming.
- 1:14:36Yes. So he doesn't like park off, you
- 1:14:51know, off away from anybody because those are two handicap
- 1:14:55spots. Yeah, so.
- 1:14:57And he's parked at an angle to where I don't know if I'd be
- 1:15:01able to see if there's a shadow on that car.
- 1:15:05God, it's really sad seeing some of these last moments.
- 1:15:07I know. My heart really goes out to his
- 1:15:10loved one. Kind of reminds me of Phil, the
- 1:15:12way he's dressed and walking that way.
- 1:15:14Anyway, OK. Is this inside the dispenser?
- 1:15:25Yep. They got a lot of rules and
- 1:15:46dispensaries. You have to look at the cameras.
- 1:15:49That's why the video footage of him or the still of him looking
- 1:15:54up at the camera that was released and everybody thought
- 1:15:58he looked like he was in distress, No.
- 1:16:00How it is in Illinois because I don't do that in Missouri with
- 1:16:04the camera. They do it at different ones, it
- 1:16:07all depends. So at the beyond, how low it
- 1:16:10does it, there's some in Springfield that do it.
- 1:16:14So it it just all depends on on the place you go.
- 1:16:21So he was browsing, he was shopping, he wasn't in a hurry.
- 1:16:27He was. Yeah, he wasn't like, OK, get
- 1:16:30this for me and let's get out of here.
- 1:16:31Yeah, he wasn't like, oh, just give me whatever is the best you
- 1:16:37think it is. That's.
- 1:16:37Kind of what I do surprise me. And he's just casually standing
- 1:16:44there. He's not agitated.
- 1:16:46He's not. Doesn't look anxious.
- 1:16:48No, nothing, He looks. I mean, obviously you can hide
- 1:16:52some things, but it just seems like he's.
- 1:16:54Yeah, but a normal day if if you have a plan to this is going to
- 1:16:58be your last hurrah first, I would think you would get
- 1:17:01edibles if you're if this was going to be your last hurrah
- 1:17:04instead of, you know, just a, a blunt, you know, But hey, that's
- 1:17:10just me speaking. So.
- 1:17:12But you never know how someone's going to look at their final
- 1:17:14moments. Yeah, I know my best friend.
- 1:17:16Posted pictures of him smiling and stuff you know.
- 1:17:19No, I know, I know, I know too well.
- 1:17:27And this was during COVID, so he had his mask on.
- 1:17:38But yeah, he just gets 1, you know, he pays cash for it, if I
- 1:17:43remember correctly. So.
- 1:17:58I don't know, it just doesn't seem it.
- 1:18:01Seems like a normal interaction. Yeah, but then again, you never
- 1:18:09know. I didn't see him do a little
- 1:18:18look up with the camera, but that's probably because there's
- 1:18:20like normally 2. Normally if anybody hasn't been
- 1:18:23to a dispensary, I haven't been to any in Illinois, but just
- 1:18:26speaking from experience, normally you'll go into like 1
- 1:18:28little room, you'll kind of get checked in or whatever and then
- 1:18:31they'll send you back to the room where they actually have
- 1:18:33the goods. And then they have to do like
- 1:18:35double checks and stuff. And they're very, they're very,
- 1:18:39there's a lot of, there's a lot of different rules to it.
- 1:18:50So this is a 6 minute and 15 yeah, 6 minute and 15 second
- 1:18:54video. And supposedly this where he
- 1:18:59gets into his car is where he wipes his phone or or shuts his
- 1:19:04phone off or whatever it seems. But I think he even like wiped
- 1:19:09his phone, like erase stuff off of his phone or something like
- 1:19:12that. He did.
- 1:19:14Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what can felons buy in a
- 1:19:21recreational state. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:25They're big customers, yeah. I think guns and sometimes
- 1:19:33voting, I think those are pretty much the only things that are
- 1:19:36off limits. Off.
- 1:19:36Yeah, and they're trying to change the voting, I think.
- 1:19:39They should. I think they should change the
- 1:19:41voting. I think they should too.
- 1:19:44I still think the gun should be off limits, especially for
- 1:19:47violent crimes, or at least for violent crimes.
- 1:19:50But I think if you're a citizen of the United States, it did
- 1:19:54your crime, it did your time. Yeah, but so he just sits here
- 1:19:59this whole time and they say that's when he's wiping his
- 1:20:02phone or he's doing whatever, you know, but.
- 1:20:08Why would he do that? Why would he I?
- 1:20:10Saw him reach over, I see like a shadow of some sort but it looks
- 1:20:14like he's just maybe grabbing something.
- 1:20:16I don't know if I see somebody leaning over the other way
- 1:20:19though. Yeah, he had stuff in his.
- 1:20:22Yeah, I know. I'm just looking that's.
- 1:20:23Yeah, no. Looking at observing because his
- 1:20:26mom had said that she thought that she saw something in the
- 1:20:28passenger side. But I don't know if it
- 1:20:31necessarily looks like his hands up to somebody or if he's
- 1:20:33getting some out of the glove box or putting it in the seat
- 1:20:36beside him, or anybody at home sees anything that stands out.
- 1:20:44Please let us know. Yeah, Joy, the Google data, I'm
- 1:20:49not even sure about the phone. I don't think that they he had
- 1:20:52an iPhone and so I don't know, they can't, they weren't able to
- 1:20:58get into the phone. His mom actually was watching a
- 1:21:02video of him at the university when he was going into a
- 1:21:09building or something. I think it wasn't a Starbucks.
- 1:21:11Yeah, it was in a Starbucks at the university or something like
- 1:21:14that. And he was putting in his code,
- 1:21:19but no one realized it. And his mom, you know, realized
- 1:21:23that and sent that over to the FBI.
- 1:21:25And then it took like 11 days for them to open the the phone
- 1:21:29and see what was in there. So I'm not sure, I'm not sure
- 1:21:35what they know about the phone and what's on the phone because
- 1:21:39I think. Well, the way it seemed, I, I
- 1:21:42don't know much about technology, so I'm not going to
- 1:21:45explain this, right. I, I never really explained
- 1:21:47anything, right. But anyway, but it seemed like
- 1:21:51they were saying that there was some kind of a program that they
- 1:21:53might have used to get the data off the phone and they're not
- 1:21:56actually physically on the phone and they were looking at stuff.
- 1:21:59Yeah, because it was. Destroyed.
- 1:22:01Destroyed. Gotcha.
- 1:22:03But I mean, it seems like there was a little bit in the phone
- 1:22:06that you could gain access to. And his brother said, or
- 1:22:10Jelani's brother had said that he used Google Maps a lot.
- 1:22:14And he's like, hey, check his Google Maps, check his Google
- 1:22:17Maps, see if you know where the last few places he had put in
- 1:22:19there were. And, you know, the guy ended up
- 1:22:25having a conversation with his mother and was like, there's
- 1:22:27nothing on the phone. There's nothing on the phone.
- 1:22:28And you know, according to her, she said that he literally
- 1:22:32screamed at her and said there's nothing on the fucking phone,
- 1:22:36which, I'm sorry, nothing on the phone or not.
- 1:22:39Even if every single concern that she has is invalid, that is
- 1:22:42not how you speak to, well, 1A member of the public, but two.
- 1:22:49Oh, just a concerned mother who's trying to figure out why
- 1:22:52her son was washed up in the Illinois River.
- 1:22:54Yeah, she's. A victim.
- 1:22:56Yeah, when dad heard that last night, he's like, that's normal
- 1:22:59for small towns. Yeah, well, that's the.
- 1:23:02Reason why, you know, that's the reason why a lot of people don't
- 1:23:08like the police. So you know, we need reform for
- 1:23:13sure in the very least. I don't know what the answer is,
- 1:23:16but not that not. That OK, so he's leaving.
- 1:23:19Leaving now. Do we see anything in the?
- 1:23:22It doesn't look like there's anybody in there.
- 1:23:24Well, there's something there. Maybe something was a little.
- 1:23:30I kind of look if I'm reaching, grasping for straws, it looks
- 1:23:34like if you look like someone might have put their head back.
- 1:23:38But there's nobody like sitting up like this.
- 1:23:41But that's just play devil's advocate.
- 1:23:43I don't know. OK, so we're looking, I don't
- 1:23:46know if it's a week ago frame by frame, but you don't really see
- 1:23:48anything. Of course, the glare.
- 1:23:51And then a little bit more right there, you see there's a little
- 1:23:57black thing right there. I don't know if that black dot
- 1:24:01shadow is like like I don't know if that's a head.
- 1:24:05That could just be Jelani. He would.
- 1:24:08He was a little bit more over here, though he was leaning a
- 1:24:11little more forward. So you can like, see, look
- 1:24:13around and then back here. Yeah.
- 1:24:15Yeah. You see.
- 1:24:17Right. So sorry, I'm off camera kind of
- 1:24:21pointing with my literal finger. But you see right here, like
- 1:24:25hold up right there. There's like a little black dot.
- 1:24:28And I think Jelani's more over here because he's kind of
- 1:24:32leaning forward. And again, I'm not saying this
- 1:24:34is anything but if that, you know, if the mother thinks she
- 1:24:37saw something like right here, maybe, maybe it could just be
- 1:24:47grasping for straws. But can't wait to see.
- 1:24:52It's hard to tell. There really is no definitive.
- 1:24:55Doesn't look like anybody's in the passenger seat, but.
- 1:25:00I'm thinking probably not, but I wanted to give it at least a
- 1:25:05look. Is that about all?
- 1:25:09Yeah. Not going to show anything else
- 1:25:11because he won't come back. OK.
- 1:25:14Oh, is this just kind of similar, showing his vehicle or
- 1:25:18is this leaving? OK, make it a little.
- 1:25:31Yeah, I don't really see anything.
- 1:25:33There at all. Nobody's there.
- 1:25:35It doesn't doesn't seem like that to me, but right there you
- 1:25:44see like maybe it's just the just the but it kinda yeah, I
- 1:25:53don't know. Now, we do need to mention that
- 1:26:02there was unknown male DNA found in Joanni's waistband of the his
- 1:26:09pants. Really.
- 1:26:12Yeah. I didn't realize that.
- 1:26:15Yeah. I somehow missed that.
- 1:26:19That seems suspicious, not to speculate doing no Jelani's
- 1:26:29orientation or hasn't been identified doesn't really
- 1:26:34matter. No, I have no idea.
- 1:26:36OK. We got lost again.
- 1:26:38Yeah, it changes every time you get off of there.
- 1:26:41We're looking for our documents. Sorry guys, but yeah, I'm not
- 1:26:45trying to speculate on that whatsoever whatsoever.
- 1:26:48I would imagine. He but I'm it doesn't give me
- 1:26:51that vibe, but regardless, it seems suspicious to me.
- 1:26:57He didn't have any roommates or anything, did he?
- 1:27:00You said it was unknown DNA, right?
- 1:27:02Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:27:03So it didn't bring up when you put it into oh, not CODIS.
- 1:27:06What's the other one? Gedmatch.
- 1:27:09Well, I don't know if they put it in Gedmatch.
- 1:27:12Probably not, because it doesn't seem like they're really doing
- 1:27:14anything, but they said it's unidentified, so maybe they
- 1:27:17tried identified. I don't know.
- 1:27:19Again, not to speculate too much.
- 1:27:21OK, you're a little pause scratch me and it hurts.
- 1:27:23OK, Did we read about the Starbucks?
- 1:27:28No. I.
- 1:27:32Know just update for everybody. We are on military broadcast
- 1:27:36radio, so we are only able to stream at least on a regular
- 1:27:41time on the radio station for two hour increments.
- 1:27:45We are at the about 1 1/2 hour mark, so there's a lot of
- 1:27:48information we're not going to be able to cover.
- 1:27:50But we will be speaking to Jelani's family next week, and
- 1:27:55if we can't cover all the bases between this episode and the
- 1:27:59next episode, we will probably do a follow up episode and
- 1:28:02actually get you guys all up to speed on exactly everything
- 1:28:04that's going on. Clearly, you know, we're only
- 1:28:08going to get so far in like a 206 page document and a two hour
- 1:28:13time frame, especially when I'm trying to add a little bit of
- 1:28:15context. But I feel like the context
- 1:28:17we've added is important. It's stuff you need to know.
- 1:28:19Yeah, no, I think it's going well.
- 1:28:21And you know, like I said, don't, don't expect, you know, a
- 1:28:27fluid. I can't even speak.
- 1:28:29Presentation. You manifest it.
- 1:28:34That being said, though, yeah, so we're just trying to get a
- 1:28:39base of kind of what happened. And I just want to very.
- 1:28:42I just really want to make sure that Jelani's story and Jelani
- 1:28:47as a person does not get lost in all of the court documents.
- 1:28:52Because so often, you know, we especially people that pay
- 1:28:56attention to true crime, it's kind of salacious, you know, we
- 1:29:00get up caught up in The Dirty details and you know, the mind
- 1:29:04of a killer and all this stuff. And that just doesn't apply
- 1:29:08here. We're not going to let him just
- 1:29:10be another person that, you know, that.
- 1:29:14I mean, there's so many people that, you know, pass away, go
- 1:29:17missing, have horrible things happen to them everyday.
- 1:29:20And, you know, people do mukbangs and talk about their
- 1:29:27deaths and talk about the brutal things and they laugh and I'm
- 1:29:31sorry. Well, I laugh when I'm nervous.
- 1:29:33Well, yeah. So it's OK for that, but you
- 1:29:36know what I'm saying? Like people just kind of treat
- 1:29:38things like a joke. And I'm not here trying to like,
- 1:29:39you know, morally grandstand or anything like that, But we just
- 1:29:43want to make sure that to our best, the best of our ability,
- 1:29:49that we try and do Jelani's case justice.
- 1:29:51Again, this is a small channel and you know, our reach isn't
- 1:29:54that far, but every single eye that we can get on this case or
- 1:29:58any case really is very helpful. So we appreciate everybody for
- 1:30:03watching this. We OK, let's get a little bit
- 1:30:08more back into this. Again, I just wanted to clarify
- 1:30:10that we will be having more information come out.
- 1:30:13We will be speaking more about, you know, just everything,
- 1:30:17whether it be Jelani as a person, some more of the details
- 1:30:20of the crime scene, stuff like that.
- 1:30:22But you know, we're kind of got to make our way through.
- 1:30:25Oh, you're presenting it again. Gotcha.
- 1:30:30Does that say Limewire? Yes.
- 1:30:33I'm sorry, I was just saying something about laughing and I'm
- 1:30:36laughing. Sorry I haven't seen Limewire in
- 1:30:37a while. I know I laughed when I saw it.
- 1:30:39I was like. OK, you don't have any hope.
- 1:30:43You don't get any viruses from this Limewire, Notorious or
- 1:30:46viruses. Scan it's scanned it, I don't
- 1:30:49know. All right, Not saying anything
- 1:30:51about these documents in particular, just Limewire.
- 1:30:53If you know, you know, right? OK.
- 1:30:56I hope this is kind of where we're at.
- 1:31:04I met with Assistant State's Attorney Aaron Hornsby, who
- 1:31:07assisted me in drafting A complaint for a search warrant
- 1:31:10to search Jelani Days White 2010 Chrysler 300 bearing the
- 1:31:15following VIN number. ASA Hornsby also assisted me in
- 1:31:19drafting A complaint for search warrant for cellular records
- 1:31:22from Verizon corresponding to Jelani's Verizon number.
- 1:31:27ASA Hornsby and I met with the Honorable Judge Sarah Duffy who
- 1:31:31reviewed the complaint and search warrant.
- 1:31:33Judge Jaffe. Judge Duffy.
- 1:31:35Sorry, Judge Duffy signed both complaints and search warrants
- 1:31:40at about at about 14 O 3 hours. Upon returning to the Police
- 1:31:44Department, I scanned the complaint and search warrant for
- 1:31:46Jelani's vehicle as APDF document.
- 1:31:49I uploaded the PDF copy of the documents to evidence.com and
- 1:31:53associated the PDF with case number to view the PDF and it
- 1:32:00just shows you how to look at it.
- 1:32:03I provided a copy copy of the search warrant to Detective
- 1:32:06Marvel. You're going to be going to do
- 1:32:08that, sorry. In the forensic lab prior to the
- 1:32:11execution of the warrant, I packaged original documents as
- 1:32:14evidence and submitted the evidence to CID locker number
- 1:32:1745. I scanned the complaint search
- 1:32:19warrant for Verizon records as the PDF document.
- 1:32:24It's just a bunch of technical speak and details and addresses.
- 1:32:29OK, let's see. On Thursday, 8/26/21, at
- 1:32:32approximately 1933 hours, I was contacted off duty via telephone
- 1:32:36by Sergeant Todd McCluskey. McCluskey.
- 1:32:41By Todd. Sergeant Todd, I'm not trying
- 1:32:46to, I'm not trying to be funny, I promise, I promise.
- 1:32:49In regards to my assistance in responding to Peru, IL to assist
- 1:32:55in photographing and processing a vehicle related to a missing
- 1:32:59person investigation. Also, according to Jelani's
- 1:33:02family, it seems like they weren't bagging things or
- 1:33:05marking things properly in this vehicle whenever they did take
- 1:33:07pictures and did collect evidence, and it seems like they
- 1:33:13were more so checking a lot of stuff that he would have touched
- 1:33:16rather than if a passenger would have touched.
- 1:33:18Again, from the video that we saw, it doesn't look like he had
- 1:33:22a passenger in the car, but anything can happen within that
- 1:33:25hour and a half drive. That's assuming it was even a
- 1:33:28straight drive right there, you know, no stops or anything, so
- 1:33:32who knows. Again, I'm not saying you know
- 1:33:34one thing happened or another, but I just thought it was
- 1:33:36something worth noting. Sorry, we're.
- 1:33:38Pumping chairs anyway. OK, so upon my arrival at the
- 1:33:44Bloomington Police Department, I met with Detective Paul Jones
- 1:33:47and Detective Josh Schwartz and Truber.
- 1:33:50They're really not making this easy on me.
- 1:33:52OK, who briefed me on circumstances known to this
- 1:33:54point? I was advised in Peru, IL
- 1:33:57police. I was advised that Peru, IL
- 1:33:59Police Department had located a vehicle which belongs to the
- 1:34:03missing person, Jelani Day, in a secluded wooded area near the
- 1:34:06Peru YMCA. The vehicle was unoccupied and
- 1:34:10the license plates had been removed.
- 1:34:12I drove to the YMCA at 300 Walnut, Peru, IL.
- 1:34:15The address of 300 Walnut, Peru, IL is a YMCA with a full size
- 1:34:19building, parking lot and surrounding property.
- 1:34:22To the South of the building and parking lot is a steep and
- 1:34:24grassy hill. Beyond that hill is a secluded
- 1:34:27wooded area with thick trees and brush To the South.
- 1:34:29Southeast of the YMCA property is a roadway intersection.
- 1:34:33That intersection is 12th St. and West Clocks Ave.
- 1:34:38There's a small gravel parking lot stopping lot at the
- 1:34:41northwest portion of that intersection.
- 1:34:43There is then a dirt path that leads to the north northwest
- 1:34:46from the intersection into a wooded area.
- 1:34:49The car was located approximately 218 feet northwest
- 1:34:52of the intersection of 12th St. and West Clocks Ave.
- 1:34:56The weather conditions at the time of my arrival were cloudy
- 1:34:59nighttime skies with an approximate air temperature of
- 1:35:0279°. The ground surface around the
- 1:35:04vehicle was damp as there had been heavy rainfall in the
- 1:35:06previous days. The car was facing northwest and
- 1:35:09was unoccupied. There was some slight damage,
- 1:35:12scratches, dents and scrapes as it appeared the car had been
- 1:35:15driven on the path through heavy and thick brush to its final
- 1:35:19rusting point. So that might not even been in
- 1:35:22the same place. Yeah, the car was unlocked and I
- 1:35:25was informed by Peru Police Department Detective Jim
- 1:35:30Department Detective Jones that he had entered the vehicle,
- 1:35:34including the trunk, and completed a cursory search of
- 1:35:37the car. I took photographs of the scene
- 1:35:39and with the use of a Nikon D 7200 digital camera, I later
- 1:35:45upload the photos and it's showing you how you can access
- 1:35:48the photos. The photo log was completed and
- 1:35:53placed into a red evidence tape on all doors of the car before
- 1:35:56it being towed towed by Joe's Wrecker Service from 300 Walnut,
- 1:36:02Peru, IL to the Bloomington Police Department at
- 1:36:09approximately 1545 hours. I assisted Detective Jones the
- 1:36:12execution of a search warrant on the Chrysler 300 which was
- 1:36:16currently secured in the Sallyport Garage of the
- 1:36:18Bloomington Police Department. I saw red evidence tape seals on
- 1:36:22the vehicles entry doors. During the search of the
- 1:36:24vehicle, I located a notebook of paper with handwritten journal
- 1:36:27entries on each page. I then used new and sterile swab
- 1:36:31allocators to swap three separate areas of the car,
- 1:36:34including the steering wheel, front driver side door interior
- 1:36:38handle, and the front passenger side door interior handle.
- 1:36:42After collection, the applicators were placed in the
- 1:36:45new swab carton and into a Manila envelope labeled as
- 1:36:48follows. Why didn't they swab all of it?
- 1:36:51Yeah, so that's what it's like. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:36:54Like what she was talking about. So I'm, I'm going to go over
- 1:36:58that again. They use new and sterile swab
- 1:37:02applicators for three separate areas of the car.
- 1:37:06The steering wheel, something that he's obviously going to
- 1:37:09touch. So of course it's going to have
- 1:37:10his DNA on it. The front driver side door
- 1:37:14interior handle again, even if anyway we saw him drive away,
- 1:37:22it's going to have his freaking and it's like, did you do the
- 1:37:25entire steering wheel or did you just do this one little part or
- 1:37:28this one little part? You know what I'm saying like,
- 1:37:30sorry, I'm just thinking too much into well, no, you're not
- 1:37:33thinking too much into it. You have to think about this so
- 1:37:35anyway in the front passenger side door interior interior
- 1:37:40handle. So I mean, yeah, if there was a
- 1:37:42passenger, you got it. But you know, regardless,
- 1:37:46there's there's probably been a passenger in there before.
- 1:37:49So you're going to get somebody's DNA probably, right?
- 1:37:52I'm just thinking when logistically it's smarter to, if
- 1:37:58you're carjacking somebody to get in behind them, if you've
- 1:38:05got a gun or something like that to get in behind them, you know,
- 1:38:09it's smarter to do it that way, that way, yeah.
- 1:38:12Or like, did you guys swab the like license plate holder, like
- 1:38:18where the license plate was? Right.
- 1:38:20Since I took it off, I I haven't gone to any kind of schooling.
- 1:38:25I almost did for criminal investigation, but it didn't
- 1:38:29work out anyway. So yeah, so like, you know, that
- 1:38:33was something that was unusual. Just food for thought I guess.
- 1:38:38Anyway, it's just about securing and swabbing the supplement,
- 1:38:48Sorry. For.
- 1:38:51The wording OK, the supplemental report was generate.
- 1:38:56Sorry. The supplemental report was
- 1:38:59generated to document follow up regarding this investigation.
- 1:39:03On Friday 8/27/21, Sergeant Lynn assigned me to conduct a follow
- 1:39:08up to speak with Blank so it was possible that they had seen day.
- 1:39:12On Monday 8/23/21, I was able to get in contact with Blank via
- 1:39:18cell phone and she agreed to come to ISUPD for an interview.
- 1:39:23At approximately 1758 hours, Blank arrived and I spoke with
- 1:39:26her in the soft interview room. She provided the following
- 1:39:30summarized information. I'm sorry this is totally
- 1:39:33unrelated. I saw them say soft interviews
- 1:39:35are hard. Interview room, anyway.
- 1:39:39So Nicholas would have been so Nicholas go to Joan would have
- 1:39:43been a hard interview room and Gypsy would have been a soft
- 1:39:46interview. Because it had the couch.
- 1:39:48Yeah, yeah, I'm assuming that's what is it different.
- 1:39:54Have you been in a hard interview room or a soft one?
- 1:39:56I've. Been in a hard interview room?
- 1:39:58No soft couches to sit on and like it's to.
- 1:40:02I'm sorry, I'm not going to diss Gypsy unless it's not important
- 1:40:04right now anyway, OK? She's a second year graduate
- 1:40:07student and is a peer of days. On Monday, 8/23/21, she left her
- 1:40:12class at approximately 2:00 PM from Fairchild Hall.
- 1:40:16As she was driving near Dale and Maine, she saw Day walking.
- 1:40:19She described him as looking dazed and confused.
- 1:40:22She pulled up next to Day and asked if something was wrong.
- 1:40:25He stated he misplaced his vehicle in one of the nearby
- 1:40:28parking lots. She gave Day a ride to Fairchild
- 1:40:30Hall. During the short drive.
- 1:40:32She stated that he seemed like his mind was somewhere else and
- 1:40:34not very talkative. That was the last time she spoke
- 1:40:38with her SAW Day. Didn't we read this earlier?
- 1:40:42As I said before, there's a lot of stuff that are just repeats,
- 1:40:46retellings, people talking to the same people.
- 1:40:48So that's part of the reason why I was asking you earlier if you
- 1:40:51could kind of made like, you know, we're going to talk about
- 1:40:53this and that. So maybe this week we'll kind of
- 1:40:55go through some stuff and pick some stuff out so that we have
- 1:40:58more of a cohesive. Yeah, I actually.
- 1:41:00Need to follow. I actually got all of these
- 1:41:03FOIA's that we're looking at right now today.
- 1:41:07I had gotten some off of Reddit, but this is a much lengthier
- 1:41:13that. It seems like it's a complex.
- 1:41:15So that's why I wanted to go over these instead of the other.
- 1:41:18Stuff. No, definitely good, good stuff
- 1:41:19to go through. But yeah, we'll go through some
- 1:41:22of this and see what we actually have and we'll try and put
- 1:41:28together something a little more comprehensive.
- 1:41:31OK so I asked Blank if she was certain that it was Monday.
- 1:41:37She said that she was positive as on Wednesdays they have group
- 1:41:41meeting together and Dane did not attend the meeting.
- 1:41:44Speaking with Blank, I learned that day was supposed to meet
- 1:41:47with a client on Tuesday at some point but unsure of the time.
- 1:41:50You said Blank from their department would know of the
- 1:41:53exact time in the meeting. She also stated that Blank would
- 1:41:57be another individual to speak with.
- 1:41:59And I'm wondering if the person with the meeting that they're
- 1:42:01talking about is the teacher, because the teacher and him,
- 1:42:03we're supposed to have a meeting that day.
- 1:42:06Yeah, so are the. She's the one that filed the
- 1:42:09missing. Filed the missing police report
- 1:42:12again. Don't know anything about the
- 1:42:13lady but it seems like she's got some weird stuff going on.
- 1:42:16Anyway, I don't know. Either way, anyway, after
- 1:42:20speaking with Blank, I made contact with Blank via phone.
- 1:42:23She stated day he was supposed to meet with his client on
- 1:42:25Tuesday 8/24/21. It's weird that it says client,
- 1:42:30unless there's somebody else I know he.
- 1:42:31Had a clinical, yeah, a clinical clinical, yeah, OK.
- 1:42:35He had a clinical and he had a meeting.
- 1:42:38Yeah, OK. Just making sure I'm following.
- 1:42:40And he was supposed to get his TB test done.
- 1:42:44TB test. Yeah.
- 1:42:46TB what's that? Tuberculosis.
- 1:42:48Oh, like a literal? Yeah, so he could see patients.
- 1:42:50Oh, I see it here now. OK, my bad.
- 1:42:52We're getting there, OK. She stated that Dane was
- 1:42:55supposed to meet with his client on Tuesday 8/24/21.
- 1:42:59She further stated but she saw the missing photo of him dressed
- 1:43:02up and say that he was wearing his clinical meeting clothes.
- 1:43:05She further stated that she last spoke with Day on Monday night
- 1:43:08in regards to the requirement Day needed to complete prior to
- 1:43:11his meeting with his client. She stated that he needed to get
- 1:43:15a tuberculosis test. She last spoke with him via text
- 1:43:18at approximately 9:00 PM on Monday night.
- 1:43:21On Tuesday at approximately 12:00 PM, she sent him a text,
- 1:43:24but according to iMessage, the message was sent in green.
- 1:43:29It should be noted the iPhones use iMessage to communicate.
- 1:43:33When someone with an iphone's message is another individual
- 1:43:35with an iPhone, the message will appear blue on the screen.
- 1:43:39If the message appears green, it usually means iMessage is turned
- 1:43:42off if the phone is powered off or the phone is in airplane
- 1:43:45mode. Essentially, it's possible
- 1:43:46Dave's phone was turned off at 12:00 PM on Tuesday or earlier.
- 1:43:50So I don't know this definitively, but I'm just going
- 1:43:53to speak from my experience. I feel like the iPhone thing
- 1:43:59happens if you blocked somebody or if the phone is just out of
- 1:44:03service. I haven't heard about it just
- 1:44:06being offering airplane mode, it going to green, but I don't know
- 1:44:11that definitively. I'd think that the police should
- 1:44:14know that. So maybe I'm totally wrong, you
- 1:44:18know, but I've text people on airplanes before and you know,
- 1:44:21they, you know, it never changed colors.
- 1:44:24I'm an Android person so I have no idea.
- 1:44:26She has no clue but. I have no clue.
- 1:44:29I'm not speaking definitively on this at all.
- 1:44:31Holy crap, dude, your nails are sharp.
- 1:44:34Sorry, Yeah, I'm not going to speak definitively on that.
- 1:44:37That's just how I see it. I don't know.
- 1:44:42His phone was still on though. Like or like as far as like like
- 1:44:47a service was still being paid for or whatever.
- 1:44:50It's not like a service one out of service.
- 1:44:52Here you go to your grandma who has pants.
- 1:44:54Sorry, my legs are all scratched.
- 1:44:55Up, big boy. Anyway, someone who hasn't seen
- 1:45:00in a while, Oatsy came back. But yeah, that's not really
- 1:45:05important. Well, you are important, but
- 1:45:07we're not going to talk about that at the moment.
- 1:45:10But yeah, OK, so Blake also stated that she learned, I'm so
- 1:45:19sorry. She learned date logged into
- 1:45:21their online medical charting system on Tuesday from six from
- 1:45:256:50 AM to 6:59 AM. She stated that Dave made
- 1:45:29changes to his client's chart who he was supposed to meet
- 1:45:32later that day. After speaking with Blank, I
- 1:45:35made eye contact with Blank via phone.
- 1:45:37She provided the following summarized information.
- 1:45:40She lasts all day. On Monday, they have class from
- 1:45:421:00 PM to 2:15 PM. She noticed that Day arrived
- 1:45:46class late. On Monday.
- 1:45:47Day came into class almost 30 minutes after class started,
- 1:45:50which was not like him. After class, they usually walk
- 1:45:54to Fairchild to do homework, but he did not join them.
- 1:45:57She also believes this is unlike him.
- 1:45:58She described Day as being very reserved and quiet.
- 1:46:01This concludes my involvement with this investigation.
- 1:46:04The case is still currently pending, so it really seems
- 1:46:07maybe he really was going through something.
- 1:46:08But again, I want to stress this enough.
- 1:46:10I can't stress this enough. Just because he was going
- 1:46:14through something, even if you were depressed and anxious and
- 1:46:18all the works, that doesn't mean that he took his own life.
- 1:46:22And furthermore, if he were to take his own life, the way in
- 1:46:27which he would have gone about it was very odd.
- 1:46:29And the fact that he drowned without having any water in his
- 1:46:33lungs also is very odd. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:46:38Yeah, so again, I'm not making any definitive statements.
- 1:46:42I personally don't believe that it was a suicide, but stranger
- 1:46:51things have happened. It does seem like he was going
- 1:46:53through a lot, but it's also possible that the a lot that he
- 1:46:57was going through wasn't him getting ready to take his own
- 1:47:00life. Could have been anything.
- 1:47:03He was in transition, his dad was sick and you know.
- 1:47:08That I can't stress that enough. Also, he wanted to help his dad.
- 1:47:11He had already gone through two or three surgeries, procedures,
- 1:47:14whatever procedures, which I can't imagine that they were.
- 1:47:19Yeah, I'm so sorry. I think I need water or
- 1:47:23something, but it's OK, I'll get water in a second.
- 1:47:28But yeah. So, yeah, he had gone through
- 1:47:30like two or three procedures to help his dad so that they could
- 1:47:35have a stem cell transplant. And, you know, I'm sure they
- 1:47:39weren't enjoyable procedures. I don't know what they entailed.
- 1:47:42But, you know, I doubt that he would go through all that stuff
- 1:47:44just to be like, you know what, never mind.
- 1:47:47Was it stem? Cell or was it bone marrow?
- 1:47:50Stem cell, Yeah. And I mean, Speaking of cells,
- 1:47:55his body was so mangled that by the time he did the third
- 1:47:57autopsy, they weren't even fully sure that it was Jelani.
- 1:48:01There's no way to actually prove it.
- 1:48:02You couldn't even tell what his ethnicity was because he was so
- 1:48:06mangled. And I don't, again, I'm not a
- 1:48:10scientist, I'm not going to explain this well, but it seems
- 1:48:14that they took some of his skin and did kind of something where
- 1:48:19they re grew some cells or re grew.
- 1:48:21Some. Skin or something.
- 1:48:24Hopefully we can get a little bit more information on that and
- 1:48:26explain a lot better in the future.
- 1:48:29But yeah, they literally had to do some weird like biology,
- 1:48:32science fictiony kind of experiment to even figure out a
- 1:48:37definitive fact that it was Jelani.
- 1:48:41And yeah, his his older brother saw him.
- 1:48:46Which I can't even imagine and I am so sorry that he had to go
- 1:48:50through that. I'm so sorry.
- 1:48:52And on top of that though, I do think it is a good thing that
- 1:48:55one person was able. To see.
- 1:48:56Yeah, definitely. Just to make sure because of how
- 1:48:59shady it seems things were were, that's the only way you can know
- 1:49:04for sure. Yeah, no, but I agree.
- 1:49:08As far as the details, it was very brutal.
- 1:49:12Again, they don't, they can't definitively place the manner of
- 1:49:15death. And it seems that there were
- 1:49:20some activity with some of the fish and the turtles and algae
- 1:49:30and different things in the water and it just was not, it
- 1:49:32was not a pretty sight. I don't think I'm going to get
- 1:49:36into that too much at the moment, but it was, it was, it
- 1:49:38was brutal. Again, like I said, you couldn't
- 1:49:40even tell that it was him. And how long, how many days did
- 1:49:43it take for them to find him? I think it was like 9 days or 9
- 1:49:47days, something like that. It might have.
- 1:49:50I can't remember. Yeah, I'm really bad at
- 1:49:52remembering, guys. I have to have it right in front
- 1:49:54of me usually. No, I'm unless I go.
- 1:49:56Over it, over and over and over again.
- 1:49:58Yeah, I'm pretty bad with remembering too.
- 1:50:00So I'm I'm trying my best here, but I think we've gotten a good
- 1:50:03a good basis. But regardless, it's.
- 1:50:06We're just kind of setting the foundation for Carmen to come in
- 1:50:10and tell you more. And then if you guys want us to
- 1:50:14go through the rest of the foyers, we'll definitely do that
- 1:50:17and we'll definitely just kind of work this case.
- 1:50:22And one day I also hope to get more information on the Taron
- 1:50:28Evans junior case as well, so. To anyone who hasn't seen that
- 1:50:33video, it's a different case. There's a lot of details that
- 1:50:37are different, but there's also some things that are similar.
- 1:50:40Someone that was accused of taking his own life when it
- 1:50:42truly seems that he did not. It's another black man that was
- 1:50:47completely disregarded and not like, like like I said, a lot of
- 1:50:52police departments just don't really care to do that much
- 1:50:57research or investigation. Well, you got to think, I mean,
- 1:51:05this was a smaller town, right? So in both situations they were
- 1:51:12both smaller towns, predominantly white.
- 1:51:16So you've already got small town cops who are probably overworked
- 1:51:23already, and then you throw something like this in their lap
- 1:51:29who probably don't care enough to do everything necessary
- 1:51:35because. Because there are cops who are
- 1:51:38cops because of a pay a paycheck, and then there are
- 1:51:41cops who are cops because they want to serve.
- 1:51:44No, there's there are people who want to serve.
- 1:51:47There are people few and far between.
- 1:51:49The people who want paychecks are usually the ones who want
- 1:51:52power. And you know, but there are a
- 1:51:55lot of people out there. This is this is a channel that
- 1:51:58supports first responders and there are a lot of people that
- 1:52:04we know who, you know, are are are great people and so we can't
- 1:52:12paint that brush, you know, on everybody.
- 1:52:14I. Think that there are individuals
- 1:52:16that are police officers that can be good people, but I think
- 1:52:19overall it's a bastardized system.
- 1:52:21And I think that there's a lot that needs to change.
- 1:52:24And obviously, I'm not saying that we need to completely
- 1:52:26abolish everything 'cause at the point that America's in, if we
- 1:52:30just didn't have any sort of policing one day, that would be
- 1:52:34a really harsh whatever and a lot of bad things that come out
- 1:52:39of that. That being said, I don't support
- 1:52:43a lot. I don't support a lot, and
- 1:52:44that's where I'm kind of going to leave that.
- 1:52:45But regardless. Well, I do, I support a lot.
- 1:52:50And that being said, I I know that there's corruption out
- 1:52:56there, so. But I know good people that are
- 1:52:58cops too. But we need good people to
- 1:53:00outweigh all the bad. But I think as a system it's
- 1:53:04corrupt, and the way that it operates is entirely corrupt,
- 1:53:08and there's no way that can convince me otherwise.
- 1:53:11Yeah, no, no, most definitely, especially when we have private
- 1:53:14prisons who are created that are created all the time to house
- 1:53:20more people. And policing, you know, it only
- 1:53:25ever really started to just try and control, you know, try and
- 1:53:30control like people of color. And that's why things kind of
- 1:53:34started, OK, we're not going to get into it, but it's fine
- 1:53:37anyway. Historically in America, yes.
- 1:53:40Anyway, we're not going to get into it.
- 1:53:41Thank you. But I love you.
- 1:53:43But regardless, I'm just saying a lot of people are overlooked.
- 1:53:47And we're not going to let, we're not going to let this be
- 1:53:49overlooked. We're not going to let people.
- 1:53:52Yeah, we're not going to let it. Happen.
- 1:53:53If anybody's ever watched me, they know that I, I, I stand for
- 1:53:58truth and I stand for justice. And it doesn't matter what color
- 1:54:02you are or what you've done, you know, unless you're like a
- 1:54:06pedophile or something like that, then I might let it slide
- 1:54:09a little bit. But yeah, yeah, it definitely
- 1:54:12all needs fixed. But we can't throw, you know,
- 1:54:15everything out as well. You know, it's a, it's a
- 1:54:18balance. We need to just find good people
- 1:54:20to to do good things for our country and our world.
- 1:54:25Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of people stepping up that
- 1:54:29are good people. It's all the people who are
- 1:54:31money hungry and powerful are power hungry, you know, so
- 1:54:36they're few and far between anymore.
- 1:54:38So, you know, it is what it is. And it, you know, we could sit
- 1:54:44and sit here and talk forever about the injustices of the
- 1:54:47system, you know, but I, I think it, at the very least, we're
- 1:54:54doing something, you know, to just bring light to the
- 1:55:00injustices. And hopefully our viewers will
- 1:55:03then take this and what they've learned and go and learn even
- 1:55:07more and share it, you know, and make the change.
- 1:55:13You know, it starts one person at a time.
- 1:55:17You know, I'm just here to present everything, every,
- 1:55:21everybody, the information and whatever, whatever God decides
- 1:55:25to do with it, it is what it is, you know?
- 1:55:29Thank you everybody for joining us here today.
- 1:55:32This is a really important one. It is.
- 1:55:34And, you know, we've had a good turn out tonight and that we
- 1:55:38very much appreciate it. Yes.
- 1:55:41This is if there was any episode of TuneIn.
- 1:55:44This is definitely a good one. And also we want to encourage
- 1:55:47all of you guys who are interested in the Jelani Day
- 1:55:50case to also check out our video about Taron Evans, his mother.
- 1:55:56Do we have two videos of it or do we just have one?
- 1:55:59No, we just have one on Taron because I was.
- 1:56:02I actually reached out to Nick Hillary and to Detective John
- 1:56:09Jones, I believe to see if they would come on to talk about it,
- 1:56:14but unfortunately they have not. So I was waiting to see if they
- 1:56:17reached out. But we are definitely going to
- 1:56:21present Terron's case at Crime Con while we're there.
- 1:56:25And we will include Jelani's and all the other people that we
- 1:56:30have talked about. We're going to try and, and make
- 1:56:34some stuff for him and present it to people so that people know
- 1:56:40more about what's going on. So this is, we're going to call
- 1:56:45it for a call it today. Sorry, I can't even talk right
- 1:56:48now. It's been, it's been a very
- 1:56:50long, long couple of weeks. And I'm thankful, Laura, that
- 1:56:54you held down the Fort last week for me.
- 1:56:56Not very well. I did like a 30 minute show
- 1:56:59where I just gave you silly little updates but but one of
- 1:57:04them was that my OT we found him so.
- 1:57:08So, Mariah said I have a question about your photo.
- 1:57:11Do y'all ever get into that topic?
- 1:57:13Are you talking about? I think.
- 1:57:14She's talking about like paranormal.
- 1:57:15Yeah, I mean. Whenever we first started.
- 1:57:19Oh, the paintings. Well, I think they're both.
- 1:57:24They're talking about two different things.
- 1:57:26Yeah, I was. I wonder if we first started,
- 1:57:27you always ask people if they had any paranormal experiences.
- 1:57:29But I feel like there's probably a better way that we can kind of
- 1:57:31work it in. And also maybe it would make it
- 1:57:35make more sense with some of the people that we talked to.
- 1:57:37But yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:57:38I try to ask people if they've had any paranormal or alien
- 1:57:42experiences or Cryptid experiences.
- 1:57:45But then the way that we kind of went, like it just didn't really
- 1:57:48make sense to ask everyone. Yeah.
- 1:57:50Something like this? Like it's not.
- 1:57:52We did have an archaeologist come on.
- 1:57:54He was a Christian archaeologist and I asked him some interesting
- 1:57:58questions and he didn't. Have answers for some of the
- 1:58:01questions we wanted answer. Them, that's all right.
- 1:58:05He was a good sport to come on and and let us ask him.
- 1:58:08So I, like I said, I do want to talk to Dave Politis and I've
- 1:58:12reached out to Jeremy Corbell, I've reached out to George
- 1:58:16Knapp, I've reached out to a lot of people, guys, it's just a
- 1:58:21matter of them actually wanting to come on or not.
- 1:58:25That's OK. But I'm building my channel and,
- 1:58:27you know, I'm a disabled veteran just doing this for cognitive
- 1:58:30therapy. And I just want to talk about
- 1:58:33things that I find interesting or that I find people need to
- 1:58:37know more about. And so that's what this channel
- 1:58:39is all about. And so I thank everybody for
- 1:58:41joining us. And next week we will have
- 1:58:45Carmen Bolden Day and possibly the car as well, Johnny's sister
- 1:58:50and Johnny's mother. So please join us again next
- 1:58:55week and we hope that you guys have a wonderful day and I know
- 1:59:00you can barely see me back here, but that's fine.
- 1:59:02I'm I'm good with that. I've got oats sleeping in my lap
- 1:59:06underneath my shirt trying. To get underneath mine, but it's
- 1:59:09a lot tighter. So I I hope that everybody has a
- 1:59:13wonderful evening and that you do something great to change the
- 1:59:17world for the better. Absolutely.
- 1:59:19And check our the link in our description to the Taron Evans
- 1:59:23Foundation. No art Jelani.
- 1:59:26Oh my God, I'm so sorry. I'm so.
- 1:59:28Sorry, Jelani J The Jelani Day Foundation.
- 1:59:31No, you're good that. Was just 'cause we were just
- 1:59:33talking about them. But yeah, the Jelani Day.
- 1:59:35Foundation and we have Kawana back here.
- 1:59:37So which 1980 did spectacularly awesome.
- 1:59:40Have a blessed day everybody. Have a good one.
