- 1:57Speaker 2: Todd Brown and Conye mixed.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, welcome to Conspiracy the Show. I'm Adam Todd Brown,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I'm Connor mcspaden. We're gonna blow your goddamn minds today.
- 2:14Speaker 3: This is a good one.
- 2:15Speaker 1: This is a crazy, crazy story that I had never
- 2:20Speaker 1: despite how much I've looked into Vladimir Putin. Yeah, I
- 2:24Speaker 1: never really looked into how he came to power. And this, boy,
- 2:27Speaker 1: is it terrifying.
- 2:28Speaker 4: This is like when you click one of those things
- 2:29Speaker 4: where it's like ten things you never knew about the
- 2:31Speaker 4: original Star Wars and you're like, I bet I know
- 2:33Speaker 4: all these things, and you're like, what Kenny Baker was
- 2:36Speaker 4: a heroin Addict or whatever the fuck it is. You're
- 2:38Speaker 4: just like, Wow, I didn't I This one's actually pretty juicy,
- 2:40Speaker 4: and I think you may be surprised to learn it.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, this this what we're talking about today. Everything you
- 2:46Speaker 1: hear about Putin murdering journalists, all of that shit is
- 2:50Speaker 1: mostly tied to this. It's pretty fucking crazy. Me and
- 2:54Speaker 1: Connor will probably be murdered in.
- 2:56Speaker 3: This one has like oh how cool would that be?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Uh? Yeah, I still I still fantasize about going public
- 3:02Speaker 1: with what me and Vanessa Grittin heard about Shook Knight once.
- 3:06Speaker 4: And yeah, and you've never disclosed it. No, no, no, no,
- 3:09Speaker 4: you have to tell you.
- 3:10Speaker 3: You don't tell me that.
- 3:11Speaker 4: At the beginning of the episode, I'm gonna be tortured
- 3:13Speaker 4: this entire Connor seems so distant.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I was just yeah, I was just like, oh, is it?
- 3:17Speaker 2: I thought I already told you.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Maybe you did.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I'll tell you again, after all, right, we will. Yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 2: I will not put I don't want to make you
- 3:23Speaker 2: edit it.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Yeah, we don't even want to say it now and
- 3:25Speaker 3: forget to cut it out.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I'm going to edit his name out.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Think people know.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah, who knows. But we're talking about the Russian apartment bombings,
- 3:35Speaker 1: which is basically Russia's nine to eleven. I didn't realize, yeah,
- 3:39Speaker 1: but it happened in September. It's just barely avoided happening
- 3:43Speaker 1: on September eleventh.
- 3:44Speaker 4: It's one of these things where it's like you you
- 3:46Speaker 4: just just by virtue of the fact that they don't
- 3:48Speaker 4: happen in your country and you don't have your own
- 3:50Speaker 4: like kind of civic like pride and feelings tired like
- 3:53Speaker 4: there was there's just been a lot of terrorism that
- 3:55Speaker 4: you probably just didn't really know about.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's it was.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Like not a new idea I thought, you know, being
- 4:01Speaker 4: a kid or like, you know, even teager, just like yeah,
- 4:03Speaker 4: that was like, you know, there's probably other couple like
- 4:05Speaker 4: little you know, suicide backpacks or whatever, but nine to eleven.
- 4:08Speaker 4: That was the invention of terrorism in my mind, you know,
- 4:10Speaker 4: And it was like, oh, this shit has been around forever.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And this was nineteen ninety nine at a point when
- 4:16Speaker 1: we were still like, hey, Russia is our friend now yeah, yea, yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 1: had nothing to worry about.
- 4:20Speaker 3: And then fucking what's his name squashed the beef.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Boris Yeltsin, just Boris Yeltson that stumbling around the
- 4:26Speaker 1: world stage like a lovable drunk.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. But as it turned breaking an old spothead
- 4:32Speaker 3: made some proper.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Boris Yeltsen was, Uh what I didn't I didn't realize
- 4:39Speaker 1: how corrupt Boris Elson was, Yeah, because.
- 4:42Speaker 4: He was a there's all this drama with his cabinet
- 4:44Speaker 4: and it was just kind of like a thing almost
- 4:46Speaker 4: like the the Teapot Dome scandal, where this dude just
- 4:48Speaker 4: had a bunch of fucking dummies and crooks in there.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yeah yeah.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And it that all ties into the Russian apartment bombings, yes,
- 4:56Speaker 1: which if you've never heard of them, it was a
- 5:00Speaker 1: series of explosions that hit four different apartment blocks in
- 5:04Speaker 1: the Russian cities of Boss.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Moscow, which is apparent I think a Klingon embassy.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Exact and Volgodonksk in September nineteen nineteen.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Against sounds like an alien word for a big butt.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 1: That's always my least favorite thing about a Russia episode
- 5:22Speaker 1: of anything. It's like, oh, here come these fucking names.
- 5:25Speaker 4: My fucking my, my fat American mouth is not in
- 5:28Speaker 4: the proper shape to hit all these consonants.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Two hundred and ninety three people were killed in more
- 5:34Speaker 1: than a thousand injured.
- 5:35Speaker 3: That's a lot numbers on the board. Yeah, that is
- 5:38Speaker 3: putting up some numbers.
- 5:39Speaker 1: The bombs hit Buyanosk on September fourth, Moscow on the
- 5:43Speaker 1: ninth and thirteenth, and Volgadonksk on September sixteenth.
- 5:48Speaker 3: It was a whole whole bombing week.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It was a campaign.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And then there was a fifth device that was similar
- 5:57Speaker 1: to those used in the first four bombings, that was
- 6:00Speaker 1: found and defused in an apartment block in the city
- 6:04Speaker 1: of Riaison on September twenty second. Yes, and that is
- 6:08Speaker 1: where the controversy starts. For one thing diffused as a
- 6:13Speaker 1: very important word.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Yeah, it is a situation where they're like, all right,
- 6:17Speaker 4: maybe four was enough. Maybe we could have gotten this
- 6:20Speaker 4: shit done with one and a half or two.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe we pushed it. Yeah, And the.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Bombings did stop after that fifth one. There were no more.
- 6:29Speaker 1: The next day, Putin went on television and praised the
- 6:33Speaker 1: inhabitants of Riaizon for their vigilance, then went on national
- 6:37Speaker 1: television again to tell the country that the Chechens were
- 6:40Speaker 1: responsible for the bombings and that bombings in Chechnia would
- 6:45Speaker 1: commence shortly and they did. This was basically the start
- 6:49Speaker 1: of the Second Chechen War, and this is basically the
- 6:54Speaker 1: incident that got Putin elected president.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Yeah. He was just kind of like a lifelong civil
- 7:00Speaker 3: servant character.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yeah, he was. They describe him.
- 7:04Speaker 1: There's a really good documentary about this called Blowing Up
- 7:07Speaker 1: Russia that you can find on YouTube, and they describe
- 7:10Speaker 1: him at that point in history as a faceless statesman.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:14Speaker 1: And he had very little chance of winning the upcoming election,
- 7:19Speaker 1: but he was very closely tied to the Yeltsin administration,
- 7:24Speaker 1: and Yeltsin as opposed to letting the opposition party take
- 7:28Speaker 1: power and maybe arrest him or try him for his crimes,
- 7:32Speaker 1: he would much rather prefer Putin get elected.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and that.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Forms basically the genesis of the Russian apartment bombing scandal.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it does.
- 7:42Speaker 4: It does seem like with Russian even Putin doing this himself,
- 7:44Speaker 4: where he had a dmitriy Medvedev. Yeah, and for a
- 7:48Speaker 4: minute before he came back. It's just like in Russia,
- 7:50Speaker 4: it seems like when you're when you're in power, you're like, all.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Right, shit's getting hot.
- 7:53Speaker 4: I gotta slide in a fucking a cardboard cutout that
- 7:57Speaker 4: I'm going to talk behind, you know, and until shit
- 7:59Speaker 4: cool down.
- 8:00Speaker 3: And then this time it seems like the cutout went row.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah, the cutout went.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Underestimated this guy. You thought he was just this kind
- 8:07Speaker 4: of boring ass just by the book John.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Kerry of Russia.
- 8:10Speaker 4: But he had his whole other agenda and you know,
- 8:14Speaker 4: as as we've seen, just a lot of plans.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Before they made him prime Minister, which happened not before
- 8:21Speaker 1: he not long before he was elected president. He actually
- 8:24Speaker 1: ran the FSB, which stands for where is it? Federal
- 8:28Speaker 1: Security Service? Obviously, Yeah, he ran that's basically the successor
- 8:34Speaker 1: of the KGB. It's the new KGB basically, and he
- 8:38Speaker 1: ran that for about a year before they made him
- 8:40Speaker 1: Prime Minister. And the FSB very much ties into the
- 8:45Speaker 1: Russian apartment bombings.
- 8:47Speaker 2: So the kind of.
- 8:48Speaker 1: The broad picture of this theory is that Putin planned
- 8:54Speaker 1: and helped executre at least planned and ordered the bombings
- 8:59Speaker 1: of these Russian apartment buildings and blamed it on Chechnia
- 9:04Speaker 1: as a pretense for going to war with Chechnia and
- 9:07Speaker 1: bolstering his status and prestige among voters. Yeah, and thus
- 9:12Speaker 1: getting elected to the presidency.
- 9:14Speaker 2: You know.
- 9:14Speaker 4: And it's like almost like this like speech where he
- 9:16Speaker 4: praises their vigilance after they defuse that fight. But that's
- 9:19Speaker 4: almost like his like eight mile verse where he's just
- 9:21Speaker 4: been working on this ship for years.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a big moment, you know.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yeah, if you watch that documentary, they show they have
- 9:26Speaker 1: clips of him like walking in to give that he's
- 9:29Speaker 1: got a really weird walk where only one does yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 1: only one arm moves. It's very he's like walks like
- 9:35Speaker 1: Michael Jordan.
- 9:35Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, I don't know I noticed that, but
- 9:39Speaker 4: that does make sense. But it's almost one of these things.
- 9:40Speaker 4: It's like you see him and you're like, oh, like
- 9:43Speaker 4: it almost creeps you out. It makes you sort of
- 9:45Speaker 4: skeptical when you read about this shit, because you're like,
- 9:47Speaker 4: is this person just rising to the moment and uniting.
- 9:50Speaker 3: A country after this happens?
- 9:51Speaker 1: You know?
- 9:51Speaker 4: Or was or was William Winston Churchill just like all right,
- 9:55Speaker 4: blood deeal toils and towards sweat and that'll be great
- 9:58Speaker 4: and I'm gonna fucking found my podium here and then
- 10:01Speaker 4: it'll look like real. And it's like, ohh, I thought
- 10:04Speaker 4: you were just like someone rising to greatness and in
- 10:07Speaker 4: light of this horrible tragedy.
- 10:08Speaker 3: But this was all cooked up in a lab.
- 10:10Speaker 1: You know.
- 10:11Speaker 4: This was like you did with like terrorism and the
- 10:13Speaker 4: legislation and military action, what music producers did with Kesha
- 10:17Speaker 4: to just all right, it's gonna be I don't know,
- 10:19Speaker 4: it's gotta be Rebecca Black, the songs about Friday, Like
- 10:22Speaker 4: it's all kind of like manufactured and yeah, yeah, cooked up.
- 10:25Speaker 3: It's weird.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yeah, his and it worked like he he was elected.
- 10:30Speaker 1: He his popularity shot up. Same thing that happened with
- 10:33Speaker 1: Bush after nine to eleven, his approval ratings were through
- 10:36Speaker 1: the roof. You know, he gave the worst fucking speech
- 10:38Speaker 1: ever after nine to eleven happened.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, it was good enough.
- 10:41Speaker 4: And that book I read about in the color of
- 10:42Speaker 4: the awful Oval speech right after it happened. And there's
- 10:44Speaker 4: a funny ass line from Bush when they're interviewing me
- 10:47Speaker 4: is leaving office and they're like what's it like being
- 10:49Speaker 4: the least popular president in history, and he's like, I
- 10:51Speaker 4: was also the most popular president, but no.
- 10:53Speaker 3: One ever asked me about that, which is a good line.
- 10:55Speaker 2: That is a great line.
- 10:57Speaker 1: The official Russian investigation into the bombings was completed in
- 11:01Speaker 1: two thousand and two and concluded that all the bombings
- 11:04Speaker 1: were organized and led by a kamez Gochayev who remains
- 11:09Speaker 1: at large and was ordered by Islamist warlords being al
- 11:13Speaker 1: Katab and Abu Omar al Saif, who have both been killed,
- 11:17Speaker 1: of course, and five other suspects have been killed and
- 11:21Speaker 1: six have been convicted by Russian courts on terrorism related charges.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So in that way, it seems like a very cut
- 11:28Speaker 1: and dry thing, which we talked about this beforehand. If
- 11:32Speaker 1: you're living in Russia, you probably want to believe the
- 11:35Speaker 1: official explanation of this, oh of course.
- 11:38Speaker 4: And it's just like, yeah, if you're ling to be
- 11:39Speaker 4: Johnson and you're just like, yeah, the Warrant Commission, I
- 11:41Speaker 4: don't know, just say that this was just one guy. Yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 4: but we can't fucking deal with this on top of
- 11:46Speaker 4: everything else.
- 11:48Speaker 1: But the Ryazan incident was I didn't realize how free
- 11:53Speaker 1: Russia was under Yeltsin because there were a lot of
- 11:57Speaker 1: questions around the Ryazan bombing, to the point that one
- 12:01Speaker 1: of the most fascinating things in that documentary to me
- 12:05Speaker 1: are all the clips from that, Like it looks like
- 12:08Speaker 1: the set of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but
- 12:11Speaker 1: it's all the residents of the Ryazan apartment complex basically
- 12:16Speaker 1: arguing with FSB agents about the circumstances of this bombing.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Yeah on television, Wow, this is what a fucking forward
- 12:26Speaker 4: thinking of it to put on your airwaves.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Russia, good for you.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And then they do bring up at one point in
- 12:32Speaker 1: the documentary that this was all happening when Russia was
- 12:34Speaker 1: a much more free place, and once Putin took over,
- 12:38Speaker 1: he cracked down on that shit really hard. So what
- 12:42Speaker 1: you see in that documentary would not happen in Russia today,
- 12:45Speaker 1: But it's fascinating. They there are a lot of really
- 12:50Speaker 1: good questions about the bombing at Ryazan that was thwarted,
- 12:54Speaker 1: and it the part that so we'll go through the
- 13:00Speaker 1: Ryazan incident. Yeah, basically, this is the sequence of events.
- 13:08Speaker 1: At around eight thirty pm on September twenty second, a
- 13:13Speaker 1: resident in a nearby apartment building noticed two suspicious men
- 13:17Speaker 1: accompanied by an also shady looking woman carrying carrying three
- 13:25Speaker 1: large sacks into the basement of another building from a
- 13:29Speaker 1: car with a Moscow license plate. And even that part's
- 13:33Speaker 1: really interesting. They bring up in the documentary that yes,
- 13:36Speaker 1: the front license plate had numbers indicating it was from Moscow,
- 13:40Speaker 1: but then the back license plate had a piece of
- 13:42Speaker 1: paper taped over it to make it seem like it
- 13:46Speaker 1: was a car from Ryazan, which that comes up in
- 13:52Speaker 1: that documentary. This guy alerts police, but by the time
- 13:56Speaker 1: the police arrived, these suspects were gone. The police go
- 13:59Speaker 1: down into the basement, they find three sacks of white
- 14:02Speaker 1: powder in the basement, each weighing around one hundred and
- 14:06Speaker 1: ten pounds. There's a detonator and timer attached to the bags,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and the timer is set for five thirty in the morning,
- 14:13Speaker 1: which that part is especially awful because you know that definitely,
- 14:20Speaker 1: and just the fact that they're setting it for a
- 14:23Speaker 1: time when most people are going to be home.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Yeah, oh shit, so everyone's gonna be home and mar
- 14:29Speaker 4: terrorism in bed maximize casualties.
- 14:32Speaker 1: That's a really insidious detail. And Yuri, here we go
- 14:38Speaker 1: Yurikachenko that I'm sure I don't pronounce that tea.
- 14:42Speaker 2: It's immediately followed.
- 14:43Speaker 3: This is why we never hear about these stories in
- 14:45Speaker 3: the West.
- 14:46Speaker 4: We're just like, Hey, don't fucking know your looney tune
- 14:48Speaker 4: ass names.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Guys, I'm glad you're dead. Like everybody, you just give up.
- 14:53Speaker 1: So Yuri was the head of the local bomb squad.
- 14:56Speaker 1: He diffused the bomb and tested the sacks. Hey, they
- 15:01Speaker 1: tested positive for traces of r d X, who you
- 15:05Speaker 1: might remember from the Chronic album. Yeah, obviously, and it's
- 15:09Speaker 1: also a military explosive used in all the previous bombings.
- 15:13Speaker 2: So at that point all the bombings are.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Linked, and Abu Baker all funk Master Flex had pledged
- 15:20Speaker 4: to drive a bomb on them.
- 15:22Speaker 1: And it's at this point that Putin thanks the town
- 15:25Speaker 1: for a job well done. His quote was, if the sacks,
- 15:28Speaker 1: which proved to contain explosives were noticed, that means there
- 15:32Speaker 1: is a positive side to it, if only the fact
- 15:34Speaker 1: that the public is reacting correctly to the events taking
- 15:37Speaker 1: place in our country today. I'd like to thank the public.
- 15:41Speaker 1: No panic, no sympathy for the bandits. So that's basically
- 15:45Speaker 1: Putin saying good job diffusing that bomb.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Yeah, if you see someone say something, and the.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Fact that he recognizes it as a bomb that was
- 15:55Speaker 1: diffused is very important. Later that evening, which fucking welcome
- 16:01Speaker 1: to Russia. With this part, a telephone service employee in
- 16:05Speaker 1: Raaizon just tapped into a long distance phone call kind
- 16:10Speaker 1: of at will and overheard three out of towners talking
- 16:15Speaker 1: about how they needed to split up and make their
- 16:17Speaker 1: own way out of town, and with this bombing just
- 16:21Speaker 1: being thwarted, obviously that's cause for concern.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Yeah, he was like, oh, I should report this, So.
- 16:27Speaker 1: He notifies authorities, and the number is traced to a
- 16:30Speaker 1: telephone exchange unit serving the FSB offices. So that's that's weird.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And they the authorities in Riyazon eventually track these three
- 16:42Speaker 1: people down and when they arrest them, they all produce
- 16:45Speaker 1: FSB identification cards. So basically the people who planted these
- 16:50Speaker 1: bombs were FSB agents, and Moscow eventually steps in and says, no,
- 16:56Speaker 1: you have to let them go. Yeah, and that's basically
- 17:00Speaker 1: the end. The last we hear of those three and
- 17:06Speaker 1: on September twenty fourth, FSB director Nikolai Patrushev announced that
- 17:12Speaker 1: the exercise was carried out to test responses after the
- 17:16Speaker 1: earlier blasts, and that becomes basically the official explanation for
- 17:21Speaker 1: what happened in ries.
- 17:21Speaker 4: We're just trying to make sure you guys are paying attention.
- 17:24Speaker 4: We can't stop all this terrorism alone. Were run drills.
- 17:26Speaker 4: It's just a drill.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And the thing is, covert operations happen without the knowledge
- 17:31Speaker 1: of the public. Drills don't like drills. Russia is very
- 17:36Speaker 1: open about when they run drills. We sometimes worry about
- 17:39Speaker 1: them turning into actual wars, like that's a very common thing.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And Russia, as lawless as it is, at least at
- 17:47Speaker 1: this time.
- 17:48Speaker 2: You couldn't do that.
- 17:50Speaker 1: You couldn't have a drill involving the actual public without
- 17:54Speaker 1: notifying the public.
- 17:56Speaker 3: And these were live, live explosives with real timers and everything.
- 18:00Speaker 1: You know, that was at first what was reported. And
- 18:03Speaker 1: then the government when they changed there, when they came out.
- 18:07Speaker 3: And they're like, oh no, they were just they were fake.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it was something else.
- 18:13Speaker 1: So you have one day Putin saying good job thwarting
- 18:16Speaker 1: this bombing, and the next day someone coming out and
- 18:19Speaker 1: going no, no, no, no, no no, it was a training exercise.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Putin would have known if that was a training exercise
- 18:24Speaker 1: the day before, there's no mystery in that, Like if
- 18:28Speaker 1: anyone's gonna know Putin's gonna know, of.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Course in a time of national dress, you're going to
- 18:32Speaker 4: keep them that's gonna be in his daily breathing, you know.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 4: It's like, if you're doing this, goofy ass idea to
- 18:37Speaker 4: make sure that people are paying attent, like you know.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and what great timing to launch an exercise about
- 18:43Speaker 1: planning bombs somewhere when the country's actively being bombed. It's
- 18:47Speaker 1: like that would not fucking happen, No, And but people
- 18:51Speaker 1: just kind of went along with it. It.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Like we said, if you watch.
- 18:55Speaker 1: This documentary, there's this whole fucking televised public forum where
- 18:58Speaker 1: everyone who lived in the Riazon building questions these FSB
- 19:04Speaker 1: agents and they're just like, nope, it's an exercise. Like
- 19:07Speaker 1: at some points they changed their story on that show,
- 19:11Speaker 1: and people.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Are still just like okay, yeah, whatever, yeah.
- 19:15Speaker 1: And so after they changed the explanation to training exercise,
- 19:22Speaker 1: they also changed their explanation of what type of explosive
- 19:26Speaker 1: was found, because at first everyone acknowledged the RDX thing,
- 19:29Speaker 1: but then they changed their position and said it was
- 19:31Speaker 1: a combination of aluminum powder, saltpeter, mostly sugar, and TNT.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And David Satter, who is a journalist and one of
- 19:42Speaker 1: the few people who have been reporting on this since
- 19:45Speaker 1: it happened, who is still alive, he wrote a.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Must be a bad report, Yeah exactly.
- 19:52Speaker 1: He wrote a really great article for the National Review,
- 19:54Speaker 1: which we'll talk about again later. But his theory is
- 19:58Speaker 1: that they changed the explanation of what the explosives were
- 20:02Speaker 1: because they were going to have to explain how that
- 20:06Speaker 1: much our DX left the facility where it's made. Because
- 20:11Speaker 1: fun fact about our DX, it's made in one factory
- 20:14Speaker 1: in Russia, one FSB controlled factory in Russia, and.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Think go down to the corner store and pick up
- 20:22Speaker 3: a set, you know.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah, And they had to come up if this was
- 20:26Speaker 1: a training exercise, like they would have to explain, well,
- 20:31Speaker 1: do you have a record of removing all of this
- 20:34Speaker 1: RBX from the facility. So instead they just say, no,
- 20:38Speaker 1: it's sugar. And if you google pictures of this bomb
- 20:43Speaker 1: that was found or watched that documentary, that is not sugar.
- 20:47Speaker 2: It looks like fucking uranium.
- 20:49Speaker 1: It's yellow for one thing, which is not normally a
- 20:54Speaker 1: characteristic of sugar, and the explosives expert who diffused the bomb.
- 21:00Speaker 1: He I was skeptical when I first heard traces of
- 21:04Speaker 1: r DX, because like, I wouldn't expect traces to be
- 21:08Speaker 1: enough to build a bomb. But the way you test
- 21:11Speaker 1: these things is you use a gas analyzer that just
- 21:16Speaker 1: kind of measures what's emanating from that bomb and tells
- 21:19Speaker 1: you what chemicals are in it. And people were like, well,
- 21:23Speaker 1: your your analyzer could have malfunctioned. And he was like,
- 21:27Speaker 1: this is a twenty thousand dollars piece of equipment that
- 21:30Speaker 1: we had.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Cardy X is only made in one factory. Yeah, pretty
- 21:33Speaker 3: you know, unique chemical signature.
- 21:36Speaker 1: And he was like, we have a guy whose only
- 21:39Speaker 1: job is to keep this fucking unit working. Every time
- 21:42Speaker 1: we use it, he recalibrates it, it did not malfunction,
- 21:46Speaker 1: and he eventually changes his story. But that's a big
- 21:51Speaker 1: characteristic of this thing. Everyone eventually changes their story or
- 21:55Speaker 1: they get murdered.
- 21:56Speaker 4: It's like, do you want to be right or you
- 21:58Speaker 4: play with your grandkids, kind of one of the two.
- 22:01Speaker 1: In Russia and that incident basically, uh, well, let's talk
- 22:07Speaker 1: about Alexi Pinyayev Pinyeev. First, he in March two thousand,
- 22:13Speaker 1: Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta reported the account of Private Alexi
- 22:18Speaker 1: Pinyeev of the one hundred and thirty seventh Regiment, who
- 22:21Speaker 1: guarded a military facility near the city of Raaizan, and
- 22:26Speaker 1: he reported that he was surprised to see that a
- 22:29Speaker 1: quote storehouse with weapons and ammunition contained sacks with the
- 22:33Speaker 1: word sugar on them. And this is the point where
- 22:38Speaker 1: this turns into just good old Russian comedy, Yeah, because
- 22:42Speaker 1: there's a lot of things about this that it's almost funny.
- 22:45Speaker 1: How bad they fucked up in covering.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Oh totally.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Yeah, we just put like the just like big backstory materials,
- 22:56Speaker 4: you know, and bold on the sack.
- 23:00Speaker 1: And so the I say, this is the point where
- 23:03Speaker 1: it gets funny because he and another paratrooper, seeing a
- 23:06Speaker 1: bunch of bags of sugar, decide to cut one open
- 23:09Speaker 1: and make tea, Yeah, and use the sugar, why not
- 23:12Speaker 1: to sweeten their teeth?
- 23:13Speaker 3: Go one miss it.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And then they later realized they were drinking hexagen or RDX,
- 23:18Speaker 1: which is hilarious. Uh, the chemical that was used to
- 23:21Speaker 1: make all of these bombs.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I figure that is. I thought that was the
- 23:24Speaker 4: traditional Russian sweetener. It's just a civil unrest aftershave.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Yeah, they have you ever read about that people in
- 23:32Speaker 1: Russia drinking after shave, because it's.
- 23:34Speaker 4: Is that like a Vice documentary, Like you won't believe
- 23:36Speaker 4: how Russian street youths are getting high these days.
- 23:39Speaker 1: It probably is now, but only because I wrote a
- 23:40Speaker 1: Cracked article about it like eight years ago.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Okay, and they had to catch up. And yet no,
- 23:44Speaker 3: I didn't know that they.
- 23:46Speaker 1: They drink after shave, and it's bottled in a way
- 23:49Speaker 1: to make it look like something you would drink.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Oh, is it one of these things like poppers are
- 23:53Speaker 4: supposedly VCR cleaners, but they're actually for loosening your butthole.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, but.
- 23:58Speaker 1: This is legit after shave and it will kill you.
- 24:00Speaker 1: But people fucking drink it because it's cheaper than vodka,
- 24:04Speaker 1: which I didn't think anything was cheaper than vodka in Russia.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought that shit just came out of the tap.
- 24:10Speaker 3: I thought there was a third knob.
- 24:13Speaker 1: So, after he tells this story to Novaya Gazeta, FSB
- 24:19Speaker 1: officers basically show up at one hundred and thirty seventh
- 24:23Speaker 1: Regiment and interrogate Pinyev, at which point he's allegedly told
- 24:29Speaker 1: you guys can't even imagine what serious business you've got
- 24:33Speaker 1: yourselves tangled up in.
- 24:35Speaker 4: I meanwhy this guy's got hexagen shits, you know, he's
- 24:38Speaker 4: trying to metabolize explosives.
- 24:41Speaker 1: And where it gets really creepy is Novaya. Gazetta was
- 24:46Speaker 1: later sued for insulting the honor of the Russian army, since,
- 24:51Speaker 1: according to them, there was no private Alexi Pinev in
- 24:55Speaker 1: their regiment.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Just photoshop, photoshopped, no matter that stall in picture.
- 24:59Speaker 2: And he go like, he gives a press conference after this, well.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Yeah, well the journalist is like, uh, well, what about
- 25:05Speaker 4: the sugar? You know, like what sugar? And he's like
- 25:08Speaker 4: the sugar that was right there. And then they're like
- 25:09Speaker 4: what journalists?
- 25:10Speaker 1: You know?
- 25:11Speaker 3: And people start asking, They're like, what are you even
- 25:13Speaker 3: talking about?
- 25:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's crazy how bad they were covering this up
- 25:18Speaker 1: and how they just got away with it. But what
- 25:21Speaker 1: it happened here, Like, would Americans believe Trump planned a
- 25:27Speaker 1: series of apartment bombings to get re elected?
- 25:29Speaker 3: At this point, no one believes anything anymore.
- 25:31Speaker 4: And it's like it's one of these things where it's
- 25:33Speaker 4: like is it bad that we can't agree on any
- 25:35Speaker 4: kind of like universal narrative. It doesn't seem like there's
- 25:38Speaker 4: anything that's universally true anymore. Or is it good that
- 25:40Speaker 4: at least people are skeptical and taking some sort of
- 25:44Speaker 4: investigative you know, like motivation to do something or learn
- 25:48Speaker 4: more or get more. And it's just like, I don't know, man,
- 25:51Speaker 4: maybe that some people would some people wouldn't. I don't
- 25:53Speaker 4: think we're not on the same page about fucking why
- 25:57Speaker 4: the sky's blue anymore. We all read that it was
- 25:59Speaker 4: scattered light and fourth grade, but yeah, it's just gay
- 26:01Speaker 4: globalis yogurt up there being being fucking kim trail into
- 26:05Speaker 4: our skies and he's like, who knows. Definitely they got
- 26:08Speaker 4: this shit right under the wire of like the internet.
- 26:10Speaker 4: If you're gonna pull this, oh yeah.
- 26:12Speaker 2: For sure, you know, yeah, they did it at the
- 26:14Speaker 2: perfect time.
- 26:14Speaker 4: We got to do this before texting becomes widely.
- 26:17Speaker 1: If anyone wants to really look into this, there's an
- 26:20Speaker 1: article on Nationalreview dot com called the Unsolved Mystery behind
- 26:24Speaker 1: the act of Terror that brought Putin to power, and
- 26:27Speaker 1: you can it's free on their website. It's written by
- 26:30Speaker 1: a journalist's named David Satter, who is legitimately the last
- 26:35Speaker 1: journalist standing who's still reporting on this. This article came
- 26:38Speaker 1: out in twenty sixteen. He's been covering this since nineteen
- 26:42Speaker 1: ninety nine when it happened. By the time he at
- 26:46Speaker 1: one point testified in front of the House Intelligence Committee
- 26:49Speaker 1: in two thousand and seven. He says in the beginning
- 26:52Speaker 1: of his article, by that point he was the only
- 26:54Speaker 1: person alive still talking about that.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Which is a pretty it's some like real like Egyptian
- 27:00Speaker 4: curse of the artifact in the pyramid type yeah, yeah.
- 27:03Speaker 1: And if you read there's so many more details. In
- 27:06Speaker 1: his article, he talks about the police sketch, which is
- 27:10Speaker 1: one of the craziest parts of the story. Basically, they
- 27:14Speaker 1: went to the landlord of this Riazan building and asked
- 27:18Speaker 1: who was renting that space down there, and the guy
- 27:22Speaker 1: gave them a composite sketch, but then he gave it
- 27:26Speaker 1: to the police, and then the police just replaced it
- 27:29Speaker 1: with a different sketch of some other dude, who eventually
- 27:33Speaker 1: is the the guy we mentioned in the beginning, who
- 27:36Speaker 1: is still at large.
- 27:37Speaker 2: They've never caught him.
- 27:39Speaker 1: He was cheching and they were like, yeah, this guy
- 27:42Speaker 1: did it, and they just produced this completely different sketch.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Yeah, like whatever, the stereotypes of chesching features like yeah,
- 27:48Speaker 4: nice chest sketch, but he needs to have the like
- 27:50Speaker 4: you know, yeah exactly he's got and he's got a
- 27:54Speaker 4: heart chech nea T shirt and you could have missed it,
- 27:57Speaker 4: I understand.
- 27:57Speaker 3: In the moment and.
- 27:59Speaker 1: This, David's at one point starts looking into whether that
- 28:03Speaker 1: first sketch was ever released before, because there is that
- 28:11Speaker 1: lag time where the government was still saying it was
- 28:13Speaker 1: a terrorist attack that was thwarted. So he's like, maybe
- 28:16Speaker 1: that first police sketch did get out, and he finds
- 28:19Speaker 1: it and it looks exactly like the one of the
- 28:24Speaker 1: FSB agents who was eventually arrested, and so that like
- 28:29Speaker 1: that alone, just replacing a police sketch, that's that's such
- 28:34Speaker 1: blatant cover up.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Shit.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Oh totally, But I think you're right. It was the Internet,
- 28:39Speaker 1: so word wasn't going to get around that fast.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Yeah, and you really had to go like go down
- 28:44Speaker 4: to the pre stage to be like can I see
- 28:45Speaker 4: that sketch and they're like, what's your name again?
- 28:49Speaker 3: Yeah exactly.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Uh so yeah, it's he calls the Russian apartment bombings
- 28:57Speaker 1: the greatest political provocations in it's the burning of the Reichstag.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Oh remember that one?
- 29:03Speaker 1: Ah, we do from a couple weeks back when we
- 29:06Speaker 1: first started talking about false flag operations.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Seems like we've been talking about him forever. When's it
- 29:13Speaker 2: gonna end?
- 29:13Speaker 3: I helped his summer never ends at.
- 29:16Speaker 1: It ends next week with part two of our episode
- 29:18Speaker 1: about Sandy Hook.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yes, another probably not a false flag operation. Yeah.
- 29:25Speaker 4: I when I went to Ireland, I had a tour
- 29:27Speaker 4: guide named Robbie, and this dude was just like, He's like,
- 29:31Speaker 4: you had this very cute, like oh today, and he's
- 29:34Speaker 4: just like, oh, yeah, I know what Obama goes on
- 29:35Speaker 4: there with his crocodile tears to try to take your
- 29:37Speaker 4: guns away after he shot those kids, and we're all like,
- 29:41Speaker 4: whoa dude, just tell me about the Ring of carry bro,
- 29:44Speaker 4: I wanted to show me where the water falls are,
- 29:46Speaker 4: and shit, Jesus want I.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Want that version of the conspiracy where Obama shows up
- 29:51Speaker 1: personally to shoot the kids.
- 29:52Speaker 3: As the joker and just let's loose.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, that's what that meme of Obama as the
- 29:58Speaker 1: Joker is from.
- 29:59Speaker 2: He actually we showed up at Sandy Hook and did that.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Yeah, if you're gonna kill yeah, you know, go all out.
- 30:04Speaker 1: So he, like I said, also rightfully points out that
- 30:08Speaker 1: four different people investigating FSB involvement in the Russian apartment
- 30:12Speaker 1: bombings were killed between two thousand and three.
- 30:15Speaker 3: In two thousand and six, Yeah.
- 30:17Speaker 1: And remember that in the run up to the election
- 30:22Speaker 1: when Trump was there was an interview and he was
- 30:24Speaker 1: saying all these nice things about Putin and I don't
- 30:27Speaker 1: remember who. It was, probably someone awful like Matt Lower. Yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 1: but it was simpler times.
- 30:32Speaker 4: And he was just like, no, he's a better leader
- 30:34Speaker 4: than our president. Like the whole interview with all those pollans.
- 30:36Speaker 1: And the interviewer was like, you know, he kills journalists too,
- 30:40Speaker 1: and Trump was just like, yeah, we probably kill people
- 30:42Speaker 1: sometimes too. Yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Oh do you remember that.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Oh that's very grim.
- 30:46Speaker 4: That is uh well that was before Yeah, but you
- 30:48Speaker 4: think he'll never get elected yeah yeah.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Where he's just like, yeah, what the fuck do you think?
- 30:53Speaker 4: You think we're so good or we're so innocet it
- 30:55Speaker 4: And it's just like this is a great Dave Chappelle
- 30:57Speaker 4: bit where he's just like he's talking about all scary
- 31:00Speaker 4: briefings are He's like, you're not supposed to tell us that,
- 31:02Speaker 4: you know, it's like your kid iss, I'd be like,
- 31:04Speaker 4: I'm three months behind in the red and I am worried.
- 31:07Speaker 3: You know the same thing.
- 31:08Speaker 2: We're just like what the fuck is this? Dude? Like peeling,
- 31:10Speaker 2: but you're.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Not even pretending anymore. There's not even the facade of
- 31:14Speaker 4: like our own like civic greatness.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Is just like, yeah, we're probably just as bad.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Yeah, And how depressing is it that we didn't even
- 31:21Speaker 1: need a Russian apartment bombing to bring Trump to power.
- 31:24Speaker 2: We just voted for him.
- 31:25Speaker 4: No, no, just one one lady in the pants who
- 31:28Speaker 4: was doing her best, and we're just like, not for us,
- 31:30Speaker 4: thank you, she's boring.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Oh my god, we're doomed. It's great.
- 31:36Speaker 1: So let's talk about the people who were killed trying
- 31:40Speaker 1: to investigate this.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Yes, let's uh.
- 31:43Speaker 1: One was Sergai Yushinkoff. He was a liberal Russian politician
- 31:49Speaker 1: and vice chairman of the Sergaikvialv Commission, which was formed
- 31:53Speaker 1: to investigate the bombings. So this is like if the
- 31:55Speaker 1: CIA murdered the Warren Commission.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Yeah exactly.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Basically, yeah, if this ever was, every Democrat on the
- 32:02Speaker 4: House Intelligence Committee just woke up and got hexagen poisoning.
- 32:08Speaker 1: He was murdered on April seventeenth, two thousand and three,
- 32:12Speaker 1: just hours after registering his political party to participate in
- 32:16Speaker 1: the December two thousand and three parliamentary elections. Convenient probably,
- 32:21Speaker 1: I'm assuming was going to run at least on a
- 32:23Speaker 1: platform of hey, your president committed an act of terror
- 32:26Speaker 1: to get elected.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it might have come up.
- 32:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean these I mean, I know Russian political
- 32:31Speaker 4: you know, campaigns are pretty civil, but I mean he
- 32:33Speaker 4: might have made a note of it.
- 32:35Speaker 1: We did an episode, it's already out, it's been out
- 32:38Speaker 1: for a few weeks about the upcoming Russian elections and
- 32:42Speaker 1: what's crazy about those is in reading that you go
- 32:46Speaker 1: into it thinking, oh, yeah, I'm going to read about
- 32:49Speaker 1: crazy ass Putin and a bunch of other really moderate
- 32:51Speaker 1: people that should probably have the job over him. Nope,
- 32:55Speaker 1: it's just Putin and a lot of other Putins below him. Yeah,
- 32:58Speaker 1: we're like, you're not mean enough to the United States,
- 33:01Speaker 1: like he's the moderate in that country.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Oh my god, it's so fucking metal. Everything is just.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Like we called the episode, would you vote for Putin?
- 33:09Speaker 1: Because by the end I was like, I think.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I'm voting for Putin.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's so funny. He's our best option
- 33:14Speaker 1: right now. Oh yeah, in the United States because everyone
- 33:18Speaker 1: else their stance. Like even there's a guy who was
- 33:21Speaker 1: running against him who basically they put him in jail
- 33:25Speaker 1: and banned his party from participating, and he's like painted
- 33:29Speaker 1: as Putin's main rival and as an American. You hear
- 33:33Speaker 1: that and go, oh, okay, so that's the liberal guy. No, No,
- 33:36Speaker 1: he's much he he thinks Putin is too nice to
- 33:40Speaker 1: the West.
- 33:41Speaker 4: Yeah, Putin is like a fascist and a tie and
- 33:45Speaker 4: he's just like, now I'm going it's full army uniform.
- 33:47Speaker 3: What the hell?
- 33:47Speaker 4: What are we dressing this shit? I want fifty five
- 33:50Speaker 4: medals across my chest. I mean nothing, what do you get?
- 33:53Speaker 4: That's what with this pussy shit? This is not the
- 33:55Speaker 4: rush I grew up with.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fucking terrifying. Speaking of terrifying, let's talk about your.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Come on shit whatever. The sauce from Rick and Morty
- 34:05Speaker 4: was check O Chick, him.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Urie Shako and Russian guys for Boss Flag better Sorry.
- 34:17Speaker 1: He was a journalist for Novaya Gazetta who was investigating
- 34:21Speaker 1: the bombings, which it should be pointed out, that's the
- 34:23Speaker 1: only like that's it in Russia publications that aren't like
- 34:29Speaker 1: state sponsored or state controlled, which I don't know if
- 34:33Speaker 1: people realize how close we are to that.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Oh, just because almost so a few companies.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Yeah, in the merger, and that's like the whole thing
- 34:41Speaker 4: is just like we're gonna make this cool underground news
- 34:44Speaker 4: source like advice or something. And it's like that's just
- 34:46Speaker 4: to get it big enough so we could sell it
- 34:48Speaker 4: to Rupert Murdoch. Yeah, I can go fuck people on
- 34:50Speaker 4: a yacht, you know, and then you're like, yeah, I
- 34:52Speaker 4: don't know, I'm shit, Like yeah.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Half the time, when I see people complaining about independent
- 34:56Speaker 1: media going down, it's like they're not independent. Like you're
- 35:01Speaker 1: talking about people that sold out to bigger county.
- 35:03Speaker 4: It's like saying, like, oh man, all of our all
- 35:05Speaker 4: our local record stores, they're like, no hot topic had
- 35:08Speaker 4: to close down in your mall because there wasn't enough
- 35:10Speaker 4: goths in North Dakota.
- 35:12Speaker 3: It's just it's the same shit.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Yeah, well yeah, And it's like you think about Creepy
- 35:15Speaker 4: is like state run magazine. It's like imagine reading the
- 35:18Speaker 4: United States government presents Reader's Digest or something even it's
- 35:22Speaker 4: like they're like Highlights magazine or whatever.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Just it's fucking odd to think about that shit.
- 35:27Speaker 1: And it's it feels like where we're headed though, Yeah,
- 35:30Speaker 1: especially with libel laws like that. The thing about Novaia
- 35:34Speaker 1: Gazetta they mentioned in that documentary. This one of the
- 35:38Speaker 1: editors is showing all of these articles that they've written,
- 35:41Speaker 1: and he was like, to us, everything we've published is
- 35:45Speaker 1: grounds for criminal charges against the Putin administration. Yeah, and
- 35:50Speaker 1: he goes, but instead we're being sued for libel And
- 35:55Speaker 1: how often does Trump talk about that?
- 35:58Speaker 4: Oh, all the time, all the time, this whole thing.
- 36:01Speaker 4: He's just like trying to prime us for some kind
- 36:03Speaker 4: of move in that in that direction, Yeah.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Like in that Once that happens, we're well, it's you
- 36:09Speaker 2: we're in a bad way.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Like even like little shit like this, like I'm sure
- 36:12Speaker 4: you know, Patreon will find a new parent company and
- 36:15Speaker 4: gets sold out from under him, and then some the
- 36:17Speaker 4: shareholder will incorporate with you know, lions Gate, and then
- 36:21Speaker 4: they'll be like, hmm, this isn't some padica. We don't
- 36:23Speaker 4: need your you know, with the fucking twelve hundred patrons
- 36:27Speaker 4: a month, and that bad lyst so you're fucking you're out, Like, yeah,
- 36:30Speaker 4: it's fucking terrifying. I do have a contingency plan for
- 36:33Speaker 4: when that happens.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Hatreon.
- 36:35Speaker 1: No, there is a word press plug in that I
- 36:37Speaker 1: could set all this shut up on.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Oh yeah, use myself. It's like, that's very smart.
- 36:41Speaker 1: The plug in is one hundred and twenty dollars. There's
- 36:43Speaker 1: a hosting service that's fifteen dollars a month but lets
- 36:46Speaker 1: you host as much content as you want and as
- 36:49Speaker 1: many different shows as you want. And yeah, I would
- 36:52Speaker 1: if I have thought about that if something ever happens,
- 36:55Speaker 1: or like if fucking Josh Denny says something super racist
- 36:59Speaker 1: on a podcast and Patreon's like, hey man, we can't
- 37:02Speaker 1: let people keep giving you money.
- 37:04Speaker 2: It's making us look bad. I have a plan.
- 37:07Speaker 3: There is.
- 37:07Speaker 4: There's a Hatreon which doesn't have the same integrated like
- 37:10Speaker 4: create your own RSS feeds for your podcast type of
- 37:13Speaker 4: functionality the Patreon has.
- 37:14Speaker 3: But it supposedly hate speech protected.
- 37:16Speaker 4: So it's been a big thing and the mean boys
- 37:18Speaker 4: can to try to be beating Richard Spencer and we
- 37:21Speaker 4: are I think by a couple of hundred dollars. He's
- 37:23Speaker 4: in like the high nine hundreds and we're like eleven
- 37:25Speaker 4: hundred right now, so nice, keep fighting the good fight.
- 37:27Speaker 4: But yeah, it is, it is. It is just like
- 37:29Speaker 4: fucked up. We're just like like, oh, okay, that's kind of funny.
- 37:32Speaker 4: I thought it was just like a pun and then
- 37:33Speaker 4: I was like, oh, this is just for straight up.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Nazi Yeah exactly. So yeah, I wouldn't go the Hatreon route.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I would just set up the subscription thing on my
- 37:40Speaker 1: own totally, which I might still do at some point
- 37:42Speaker 1: even if Patreon did.
- 37:43Speaker 4: This is a little firewell, I mean, you're like a
- 37:45Speaker 4: code head, you know, you know, like you know this shit.
- 37:47Speaker 4: All you do is research the best for like things
- 37:49Speaker 4: on the internet. So he just like Adam knows you're
- 37:51Speaker 4: basically like Cipher from the Matrix.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:54Speaker 1: I have plans, No, I know, I have plans for
- 37:56Speaker 1: surviving the Trumpet.
- 37:58Speaker 3: I really never doubt.
- 37:58Speaker 4: I'm always just like, oh, Adam, I'm sure it has
- 38:00Speaker 4: an earthquake kit in a shotgun under his bed with
- 38:03Speaker 4: a bunch of like fucking milar blankets and you know,
- 38:05Speaker 4: dog food for winter that's been vacuum compressed down to
- 38:08Speaker 4: the side of a single grape, you know, and he
- 38:11Speaker 4: just drops that in water.
- 38:12Speaker 1: We have been talking about getting Like I feel like
- 38:15Speaker 1: we need that now, Like we've reached that point in
- 38:17Speaker 1: American history where you're not crazy anymore if you have
- 38:20Speaker 1: a stockpile of bottled water in your closet.
- 38:23Speaker 4: I I listened to one am Raiders John. I was like,
- 38:24Speaker 4: I need to get a shotgun and a bunch of
- 38:27Speaker 4: like rich crackers and in like in a in a
- 38:30Speaker 4: fucking big ziploc bag that I can munch on.
- 38:32Speaker 1: And it's crazy. Yeah, fuck god, And I'm like, I
- 38:35Speaker 1: fucking hate guns. I don't ever want to own a gun.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 4: It's just like, oh, well, the Raiders are gonna come
- 38:40Speaker 4: to my house and try to take my ship after
- 38:42Speaker 4: the earthquake, and then they're.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Probably the actual Raiders. Yeah, probably actual the Oakland Raider,
- 38:47Speaker 1: if nothing else. Raiders fans, Raiders fans.
- 38:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I have a bit about this, but it's just like, yeah,
- 38:51Speaker 4: I'm sure some one of the Trump administrations can be like, oh, California,
- 38:54Speaker 4: I mean, the elections in a week, let's go, let's
- 38:56Speaker 4: go get a mole man that we we've kept alive
- 38:58Speaker 4: underneath the Pentagon from We'll go pay in sunlight to
- 39:02Speaker 4: go drill under the Andreas fault and delocate everyone right
- 39:06Speaker 4: before the election goes down, so we win those votes
- 39:08Speaker 4: because only Fresno's able to fucking get.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Out to the ballot box. It'll happen, It'll happen. Yeah.
- 39:14Speaker 2: So let's talk about Yuri shiko Kin. That guy.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Yeah, he died suddenly in July two thousand and three
- 39:23Speaker 1: from a mystery.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Illness, probably nothing on the eve.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Of a trip to the US to meet with the FBI,
- 39:29Speaker 1: just a social checking things out. He was actually I
- 39:34Speaker 1: didn't include anything in the notes about this, but there
- 39:36Speaker 1: was also a scandal. It's got whale in the name.
- 39:41Speaker 1: I can't think of what it is, but it's basically
- 39:44Speaker 1: a money laundering scandal, and he was investigating that also,
- 39:48Speaker 1: and was going to New York to meet with the
- 39:51Speaker 1: FBI to present evidence of Russian money laundering in the
- 39:56Speaker 1: United States and probably also to mention what happened with Putin.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and then they're just like, yeah, and.
- 40:03Speaker 1: He dies of a mystery illness. His medical documents, I'm
- 40:08Speaker 1: sure this is completely normal, have been classified by the
- 40:11Speaker 1: state of course. Yeah, that's what you do when a
- 40:14Speaker 1: journalist who has no.
- 40:16Speaker 4: Reasons trying to expose you dies is you use your
- 40:18Speaker 4: authority to classify his Well, it's a mysterious illness.
- 40:22Speaker 3: You don't want to you want to cause a panic,
- 40:23Speaker 3: but really, yeah.
- 40:24Speaker 2: What if everyone thinks they're gonna die that I.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Had Russian superads or whatever.
- 40:29Speaker 1: His symptoms did fit a pattern of poisoning by radioactive materials.
- 40:35Speaker 4: Alexander, I knew I shouldn't have taken that pen from
- 40:39Speaker 4: that guy in the suit. You know it's glowing at
- 40:42Speaker 4: the tip of it. I thought it was just to
- 40:44Speaker 4: help you see in the dark.
- 40:45Speaker 1: But Alexander Venenko claimed publicly that the killing was a
- 40:51Speaker 1: politically motivated assassination. Hey, speaking of that guy, let's talk
- 40:57Speaker 1: about what happened to Alexander Litevenko. This is maybe or Litvinenko.
- 41:03Speaker 1: This might be the scariest one.
- 41:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:05Speaker 1: This guy is a former FSB agent who defected to England.
- 41:10Speaker 1: He was given asylum in England because he had accused
- 41:14Speaker 1: his superiors in the FSB of assassinating Russian tycoon and
- 41:20Speaker 1: oligarch Boris Berezovsky. I don't know what Boris did, but
- 41:24Speaker 1: the FSB wanted him dead.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and this guy was trying to and his boy.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Litvinenko was that hero that came out and said, hey,
- 41:33Speaker 1: the FSB is going rogue again, let's.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Put a halt to it.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Yeah, And he was arrested for that, but they later
- 41:40Speaker 1: released him, at which point he fled to England, where
- 41:42Speaker 1: he was granted asylum. So in England he continues to
- 41:46Speaker 1: speak out against Putin and he really does a deep
- 41:50Speaker 1: dive into these Russian apartment bombings. And he actually wrote
- 41:55Speaker 1: the book Blowing Up Russia, which is what that documentary
- 41:59Speaker 1: we recommended is based on. I guess we could have
- 42:01Speaker 1: just recommended the book, but I don't have that much
- 42:05Speaker 1: faith in our listeners to want to read.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's a whole project.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and that documentary is only forty two minutes.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Baby, oh, breeze through that thing. Blow through that just
- 42:13Speaker 4: a fucking EpiPen of truth.
- 42:17Speaker 1: And so he wrote the book Blowing Up Russia that
- 42:20Speaker 1: this documentary about the Russian apartment bombings is based on.
- 42:23Speaker 1: He died in November two thousand and six after former
- 42:27Speaker 1: FSB member Andre Lugovoi allegedly slipped radioactive polonium two ten
- 42:34Speaker 1: into lit Venenko's tea at a cafe in London.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Just like you seem really qualified to work at the Starbucks. Sure,
- 42:42Speaker 3: you're a senior ranking member at the FSB. Fucking if
- 42:46Speaker 3: I'm reading quickly, vice president of Poisoning.
- 42:49Speaker 4: Well, I mean your credentials assuredly there, and we appreciate
- 42:51Speaker 4: you trying to start a new career with us here
- 42:52Speaker 4: at the Starbucks family.
- 42:53Speaker 3: And it's like, oh, you quit after one week and
- 42:55Speaker 3: you took the apron.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Nice, Okay, Like that's so crazy though, because he got
- 42:59Speaker 1: a he was in England and it like it reminds.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Me seeking asylum. He was supposed to be asylum.
- 43:05Speaker 1: It reminds me of the North Korea thing where they
- 43:07Speaker 1: killed Kim Jong ounds was a cousin cousin. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:10Speaker 1: because they didn't airport in Malaysia just because.
- 43:12Speaker 4: On the off chance and someone's going to try to
- 43:14Speaker 4: fly him back and set him up as the new
- 43:15Speaker 4: figurehead that they could prop him up with, you know,
- 43:18Speaker 4: after some kind of international bloody nose strike to you know,
- 43:21Speaker 4: overthrow everything like oh no he's the true air or whatever.
- 43:23Speaker 3: Blah blah blah. But they the fucking way they did
- 43:25Speaker 3: that is so crazy.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it was set up a fake pranksh Yeah, they
- 43:29Speaker 1: set up a Frank picture and they used to kind
- 43:31Speaker 1: of poison forget the name of it, that was very
- 43:32Speaker 1: specifically like, oh, this is so you know, North Korea
- 43:35Speaker 1: did this shit.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Yeah, just as like a power move almost.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Yeah, And there's an aspect of this story that's kind
- 43:41Speaker 1: of like that too.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Well, not lit Venenko, but.
- 43:44Speaker 1: I imagine, like especially the fact and that this former FSB
- 43:48Speaker 1: member has never been charged for this. You know, England
- 43:52Speaker 1: just did an investigation and decided, well, yeah, this guy
- 43:55Speaker 1: definitely did it, but then he went back to Russia,
- 43:58Speaker 1: and Russia obviously isn't gonna extra dight. Yeah, the one
- 44:01Speaker 1: of the one, so they can be tried for a
- 44:04Speaker 1: state sanctioned assassination carried out on foreign soil. Yeah, So
- 44:10Speaker 1: it's just kind of that's where we are, this guy and.
- 44:14Speaker 4: It's even spies, you want to think spies are like,
- 44:16Speaker 4: we got to kill this guy before he kills us.
- 44:18Speaker 4: He's like, we got to kill this guy before he
- 44:20Speaker 4: makes us look like a dick, so we can't kill
- 44:22Speaker 4: other guys.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like and you know, with his cover up
- 44:25Speaker 2: for the cover up, for the cover up, it's just fun.
- 44:28Speaker 1: With him being a former FSB member, I get the
- 44:31Speaker 1: sense that these two probably just like met up for
- 44:34Speaker 1: a drink.
- 44:35Speaker 4: Maybe yeah, maybe he was that's maybe that's how you
- 44:37Speaker 4: get together. Maybe just like, hey, man, I'm I got
- 44:39Speaker 4: some shit. I gotta tell you about it. I'm not
- 44:41Speaker 4: supposed to be here, but I mean, if you can,
- 44:42Speaker 4: if you can meet me at the cafe, I'll slide
- 44:45Speaker 4: your flash drive and you hopefully get the bottom of this.
- 44:47Speaker 2: And the flash drive accidentally falls on the team.
- 44:49Speaker 1: He's like, whoa, you should drink it anyway, just blow
- 44:53Speaker 1: on this and then run away.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Yeah, and and make sure I'm wearing gloves so that
- 44:58Speaker 4: the polonium two tenders and soak to my pores and
- 45:00Speaker 4: give me fucking.
- 45:02Speaker 1: That was a I remember when this happened like it
- 45:04Speaker 1: was a big story. There were it was all over
- 45:07Speaker 1: the news, and I remember then people were like, yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 1: Putin probably did it, but I didn't. I never looked
- 45:13Speaker 1: into it enough to know why.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Yeah, didn't realize it was related to this. And then
- 45:20Speaker 1: there's one more. Anna Pulatkovskaya, who we've talked about on
- 45:24Speaker 1: other podcasts before. We did an episode of What in
- 45:27Speaker 1: the World about how hard it is to be a
- 45:29Speaker 1: journalist in other countries, and she's a good example of that.
- 45:32Speaker 1: She was a journalist, writer, and human rights activist. She
- 45:36Speaker 1: gained national attention for her reporting on the war in Chechnia,
- 45:40Speaker 1: but also extensively covered the apartment bombings the war Inzchnia,
- 45:47Speaker 1: and she was basically terrorized for most of her professional career.
- 45:53Speaker 1: At one point, she was arrested by Russian military forces
- 45:57Speaker 1: and subjected to a mock execution.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Like that is insane, Yeah, it's like childishly inhumane.
- 46:06Speaker 3: Yeah, to just be like, we're gonna put a bag
- 46:08Speaker 3: on your head and just surprise.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's just them going, hey, we can do
- 46:12Speaker 1: this at any time, so maybe shut up.
- 46:15Speaker 4: And at this point we've killed three people and we
- 46:18Speaker 4: try to keep it as three cover up murders for
- 46:20Speaker 4: every false flag and you're just like.
- 46:22Speaker 2: We'll make it four.
- 46:23Speaker 3: They don't give a fuck, but I'm just telling you so,
- 46:25Speaker 3: you though.
- 46:26Speaker 2: And she kept reporting.
- 46:29Speaker 1: So the next thing they did was they tried to
- 46:31Speaker 1: poison her on a flight and it they ended up
- 46:34Speaker 1: just diverting the flight back to Russia and she was
- 46:37Speaker 1: in the hospital for a while, but also didn't kill her.
- 46:40Speaker 1: She survived. She keeps reporting. Finally, finally, in October of
- 46:47Speaker 1: two thousand and six. October seventh, two thousand and six,
- 46:50Speaker 1: Charlie Brown kicks the football. She was killed in a
- 46:54Speaker 1: contract execution on October seventh, two thousand and six. Five
- 46:59Speaker 1: men were arrested, but it's never been revealed who ordered
- 47:03Speaker 1: and paid for the killing. But it's worth noting the
- 47:06Speaker 1: murder happened on Vladimir Putin's birthday.
- 47:08Speaker 4: So me and your cabinet got together. You don't like gifts,
- 47:11Speaker 4: Well we got you something and we didn't go.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Don't worry. We didn't pay a lot of money for it.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Human life. You actually a resource in Russia.
- 47:21Speaker 1: So there's all of that when it comes to the
- 47:24Speaker 1: Russian apartment bombings. And there's one last thing, if if
- 47:28Speaker 1: all of this isn't proof enough that the FSB was
- 47:32Speaker 1: probably complicit in this and had some advanced knowledge on
- 47:36Speaker 1: September thirteenth, just hours after the second explosion in Moscow, because.
- 47:41Speaker 4: It's reth doing and you might have forgotten, this is
- 47:43Speaker 4: the fifth one. This is the one that they prevented.
- 47:46Speaker 4: It's much less all the sketchy shit that was going
- 47:48Speaker 4: on with the first four.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and the first four all used the same type
- 47:52Speaker 1: of explosive which was only produced in a government lab
- 47:55Speaker 1: controlled by the FSB oops, which I don't think they
- 47:58Speaker 1: ever expected that information to come out. I think it
- 48:01Speaker 1: was when that bomb, that fifth one got thwarted and
- 48:04Speaker 1: that guy tested it before they could get there.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Yeah, the twenty thousand dollars machine that was broken. That
- 48:08Speaker 4: his whole life's work to maintain and operating use exactly.
- 48:12Speaker 4: And again it's you got your finger prints all over.
- 48:13Speaker 4: It's like if you're leaving someone creepy, if it's like
- 48:16Speaker 4: t pain threatening to rape you, but he's auto tuning himself,
- 48:20Speaker 4: you know where it's like, okay, mister Payne, I mean
- 48:22Speaker 4: this is your ex girlfriend and you're calling cards all
- 48:25Speaker 4: over the shit exactly.
- 48:28Speaker 1: And it so if if all of that, the fact
- 48:31Speaker 1: that they got caught planting the fifth bomb, literally yeah,
- 48:36Speaker 1: FSB got caught planning the fifth.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Hobo hand on the windowsill the hook moment.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Like even then, if you're one of those Akham's
- 48:44Speaker 1: razors fucks, you have to assume that the person who
- 48:48Speaker 1: got caught planning the fifth bomb planted the first four. Yeah,
- 48:52Speaker 1: Like that is the most obvious conclusion.
- 48:55Speaker 4: He's gotten good possible, you know, he's had, He's had
- 48:57Speaker 4: plenty of practice. I wouldn't want to change up the
- 48:59Speaker 4: step it's going so well.
- 49:02Speaker 1: And so if all of that doesn't convince you that
- 49:06Speaker 1: the FSB new about this, consider this. On September thirteenth,
- 49:10Speaker 1: just hours after the second explosion in Moscow, Russian Duma
- 49:15Speaker 1: Speakerkennedy Selesniov whatever of the Communist Party made an announcement quote,
- 49:24Speaker 1: I have just received a report, according to information from
- 49:27Speaker 1: rostov on Don, an apartment building in the city of
- 49:31Speaker 1: Volgoedonks was blown up last night. Now here's the thing.
- 49:35Speaker 1: He's right, that an apartment building in the city of
- 49:39Speaker 1: Volgodonsk was blown up. It's just that it happened three
- 49:44Speaker 1: days after he said this.
- 49:46Speaker 3: Ah so good.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Like that is Keystone cops bullshit?
- 49:51Speaker 4: Then yeah, like what the fuck?
- 49:56Speaker 2: Yeah? And when at one point he got.
- 49:59Speaker 3: U read the first part of this note that was passed.
- 50:02Speaker 1: He got questioned about this by a reporter in public,
