- 0:09entertainment. We are sharing our own thoughts
- 0:12and stories, not professional advice.
- 0:14So relax, enjoy and don't take us too seriously.
- 0:18Let's get this started. Welcome to Sit Happens.
- 0:22What's in your cup today? What is in our cup today?
- 0:25I made some Dubai chocolate matcha latte by myself for
- 0:31Alexandra and me. How did you like it?
- 0:33I really enjoyed it. I know we found this new drink
- 0:36from Starbucks and we've been hooked and hey kudos to you my
- 0:41friend cuz I'm I'm sipping it What about you Rosie?
- 0:43I'm. Sipping homemade coffee because
- 0:45we're on saving money mode. It's that time of year.
- 0:48Let's do it. Well guys, I know what's coming
- 0:50up very soon. Are we ready to talk about
- 0:53Galantines, Valentine's and all the things?
- 0:56Yeah, let's do it. All right, well, let's start
- 0:59with traditional. Is that something you guys
- 1:01celebrate? How about you, Lynn?
- 1:02No. Actually, growing up in Germany,
- 1:05Valentine's Day has always been more like something that adults
- 1:09do. I know it's different here in
- 1:10the States, but it was never pushed to write each other
- 1:15Valentine's Day cards or gift each other.
- 1:18That's more like, OK, the parents go or, you know, the
- 1:22teenagers that go dating, they would gift each other something
- 1:26and it's very, very stereotypical.
- 1:29Chocolates and flowers, but I've never cared for it.
- 1:33I've never got presents growing up.
- 1:35I've never really done much until I was an adult.
- 1:40How about you else? It's been a little different
- 1:43because growing up in Haiti, I do remember the chocolate, the
- 1:47teddy bear. The teddy bear was a thing.
- 1:49The bigger the teddy bear, the better.
- 1:51Or some flowers, I usually got the teddy bear, especially
- 1:55before my dad. The chocolate somehow I don't
- 1:57even remember where maybe from because OK let me back up.
- 2:00I went to an all girl Catholic school, so we would give each
- 2:04other things and that was just, that's how we celebrated it.
- 2:07And then I moved to the States when I was a teenager.
- 2:10And I remember in high school, which was in Florida, in Naples,
- 2:14I lived there for a little bit and I received this a beautiful
- 2:17balloon art thing for it was so fun because I was in class and
- 2:23it was delivered. And of course, you know,
- 2:24everybody's looking who it is. And I'm embarrassed because that
- 2:27thing is huge. And I'm like, I'm going to have
- 2:28to drag this down everywhere with me because I have classes.
- 2:33And I am telling you, I am horrified.
- 2:36And everybody was so excited for it and actually thought it was
- 2:40from my parents, but it wasn't. It was this guy from my French
- 2:44class that sent it. And what I remember
- 2:47specifically, the balloon could sing.
- 2:49So when you tap it, he would sing Sugar Plum, honey Bun.
- 2:52And I was like, Oh my gosh, walking around and they kept
- 2:56tapping it and I'm just like, please can the day be over?
- 3:01And of course, got the chocolate and stuff.
- 3:03But the nice thing is when I got home, my mom's asked, what'd you
- 3:06get the balloon from? Like, oh, it's Valentine's Day.
- 3:10Everybody got balloons. So that's one of the core
- 3:12memories that I remember for Valentine's.
- 3:14And of course, as we got older and dating and now married, it
- 3:18kind of changes because hubby is very into, like, we shouldn't
- 3:21need just a specific day to celebrate Valentine's.
- 3:24And he wants to be more impromptu.
- 3:26And honestly, I don't like the crowd.
- 3:28Try and get a dinner reservation.
- 3:30It's OK. We can stay home, cook at home,
- 3:32do something special. But yeah, every now and then he
- 3:34surprises me or like with the chocolate or roses or when I
- 3:38don't feel like it. And he's like, look what I got
- 3:40you. And it's like, Oh my gosh, I'm a
- 3:41little girl all over again. So I don't know.
- 3:44Every year it's different, but it's not something we really
- 3:46celebrate. Now that I have kids, though,
- 3:49with Omari's class, he comes home and he has all these
- 3:51things. He is Mr. Popular.
- 3:53So I'm like, have to, you know, I have to do something.
- 3:55I'm a mom now, so I don't love the candies.
- 3:58I know the Grinch is coming back.
- 4:00I don't want the candies for the kids, but I do like the little
- 4:02stickers or the Lego drawing thing where they can color.
- 4:06And this year we're looking forward to it because I bought
- 4:08like the little Dino mini Dino things.
- 4:10And he gets to write on it because he's 4 now.
- 4:12So we'll see. Every year is just a changing
- 4:15thing. What about you, Rosie?
- 4:17That's so cute. The balloon thing, I was talking
- 4:22to Lynn about that. That's what I remember from when
- 4:24I was a teenager. But talking from the beginning,
- 4:28when I was in Chicago, we did get the Valentine's Day cards,
- 4:32and I think people still do that nowadays.
- 4:34But then when I went to Puerto Rico as a teenager, I was 12/13.
- 4:40That's when I started seeing all those big balloons and those I
- 4:43was selling her baskets, like huge baskets.
- 4:46And you would kind of look at who got them and who are they
- 4:49getting them from. And I think I told you I was
- 4:51like kind of jealous. I wasn't getting any until I hit
- 4:54high school. But I was curious, when you were
- 4:56talking about that, did you guys by any chance have like those
- 5:00little cute dog flushies in Puerto Rico?
- 5:03They were called Sad Sam. Oh, my God.
- 5:06I need to Google it to show you. Because they were like the
- 5:09cutest plushie. But you didn't want to buy it
- 5:10for yourself. It needed to be gifted.
- 5:13It needed to be gifted. And eventually I got one when I
- 5:16was like, in high school. But while I was in junior high,
- 5:20I wasn't getting any roses. And I was feeling some type of
- 5:23way about it. But if I would have got it, I
- 5:26probably would have felt like you, like, very embarrassed,
- 5:28cheering it all over and over. Eyes are on.
- 5:31Yes, and everybody's asking what you get it doing all the
- 5:34questions. And it was just like, okay, it's
- 5:36a little overwhelming. And I'm I'm carrying a backpack.
- 5:39I have all these things and I have to carry on this big old
- 5:41thing of balloons and teddy bear and all that.
- 5:45So yeah, yeah, it's fun though. But yes, that happened until
- 5:49like high school. Was it something you were
- 5:51excited about guys when you were growing up?
- 5:54Like did you get the hyped up for Valentine's Day that you
- 5:58know, your parents like prepare you go, hey, we have Valentine's
- 6:02Day, we're going to decorate. Or was that more like a
- 6:05spontaneous thing for me? Growing up we didn't really
- 6:09decorate. It was honestly to like, I guess
- 6:12the expect expectation was from your friends.
- 6:15Your friends show love for how much they care, if that made
- 6:18sense. Because again, I think for me,
- 6:21growing up with all girls and stuff, we didn't really look
- 6:24into boys like you. As you're talking about junior
- 6:26high, it wasn't that big of a deal.
- 6:28It would be like, oh, so and so's parents delivered this.
- 6:32And as parents, you know, you have to deliver to all of the
- 6:35frank. So it wasn't until I moved to
- 6:37the States in high school that I started noticing the big trend
- 6:42of like, the bigger the balloon and the cheerleaders getting all
- 6:45the balloons and roses. Oh my goodness.
- 6:48And they make such a big deal about the delivery.
- 6:50It was the delivery. So the fact that I didn't
- 6:52receive something made me feel like, oh, OK, somebody noticed.
- 6:56It is so clicky though. It is, but now that you
- 6:58mentioned that, I remember getting gifts from my mom as
- 7:01well, but I don't remember when it started.
- 7:03Every now and then on Valentine's Day, I would have
- 7:06like a little bit of chocolate and sometimes a little plushy,
- 7:09something cheesy that says like I love you or Happy Valentine's
- 7:12Day. But I didn't even know that was
- 7:14a thing. Like that was very unexpected to
- 7:16get from my parents because I didn't get it when I was little.
- 7:19So I don't know if that was just a Puerto Rico thing.
- 7:21Then somebody told them, like, what did you get your daughter?
- 7:24And they're like supposed to get something.
- 7:26I would have to ask them about that.
- 7:28That's a good question. But yeah, As for me, the
- 7:30chocolate was always a staple. I remember the chocolate, the
- 7:33heart shake chocolate, the disgusting chocolate that has
- 7:37the Jelly thing in it. I don't like anything inside.
- 7:40Oh, man, I don't like that. I'm like, I just want to hold
- 7:43dark sea salt chocolate. No temple, but you know, the
- 7:45gooey. Yes, yeah.
- 7:47Not my jam, but then older. To add to what you were saying,
- 7:50I remember we did celebrate my husband and I when we were
- 7:54dating right? I do remember us giving us like
- 7:56little cute gifts. At some point we just stopped.
- 7:59Then we would go to dinner, but we stopped going on Valentine's
- 8:02Day. It's either before or after and
- 8:04at some point it just, I don't know, I don't remember what we
- 8:07did last Valentine's, if we did anything.
- 8:09Yeah, we are the same. Kevin and I are the same when it
- 8:12comes to Valentine's Day. Like Edwards and Alexandra.
- 8:16We don't need a specific date that is overly hyped.
- 8:20Everything is overly expensive. We like to surprise each other
- 8:24like sporadically when we least expected.
- 8:27And what we do like to do is after every holiday, when the
- 8:32chocolates go on sale, that's. When the splurge we.
- 8:36Splurge Kevin loves Reese's Peanut Buttercup and I don't
- 8:41really buy that throughout the year, but when it goes down 75%
- 8:46after Valentine's Day, Christmas and Halloween.
- 8:49He gets it, He gets it. He gets it.
- 8:51He gets it in heart shape. He gets a little pumpkin shape
- 8:55and the crisp. I love.
- 8:58It that I will not pay for retail price.
- 9:02I'm a good song brand. Yes, it is.
- 9:05It's like it's a new tradition. It's fine.
- 9:07You got you got to get stuff on clearance for sure.
- 9:10Did you ever celebrate Galentine's Day?
- 9:12No. Surprisingly, no, because I'm
- 9:15thinking I'm like, yeah, like I grew up with all girls, like my
- 9:17best friend and all that. That's not something we ever
- 9:19did. I guess for me, the expectation
- 9:22always been like, you know, especially being a relationship,
- 9:25it should come from the significant other.
- 9:28And to your point, dating was different.
- 9:30We would go out to like dinner or make something special out of
- 9:33it. And then at some point we just
- 9:35didn't. It ended up being like, oh,
- 9:37let's get you a card or a rose or something gives the best
- 9:41card. I don't know how he does it,
- 9:42where he's finding it. And I was like, I can't compete
- 9:45with this man. Does he?
- 9:45Handwrite. Or does he find just good cards
- 9:48that have good writings in it? So fun fact, in college, we
- 9:52started dating in college and he lived in Miami.
- 9:54So we did long distance and he we would write each other
- 9:57letters and I remember those outgoing to my mailbox and there
- 10:02was like a box like with letter and chocolate and oh, it was
- 10:05handwritten. And I'm like, This is why I fell
- 10:07in love with this man. I'm like, his French is
- 10:09spectacular. And he's taking his time because
- 10:12he growing up, he loved writing poems and stuff.
- 10:15And I was just like, Oh my gosh, you know, I'm in college.
- 10:18I'm like, I'm I felt seen. Now it's more cards.
- 10:21And inside the cards, he still writes things.
- 10:23I'm more like the court says it all.
- 10:25Happy Valentine's Day done. 2026 and.
- 10:29He takes his time and I mean, now we have kids and the song.
- 10:32But like, thank you for all you do.
- 10:34You're the mother of my I'm just now, gosh, my cards are not like
- 10:39that and I do not have the best handwriting anyway.
- 10:42It's like I should have been a doctor because I'm very much
- 10:45like a squishy thing. You know what I mean?
- 10:47It comes deep. Like just read the.
- 10:49Card. Somebody's getting paid to write
- 10:51what I feel. That's what I.
- 10:52Feel GPT baby. But yeah, he's really great.
- 10:55I like gifting and stuff, but at some point I think we moved away
- 10:58from that and I think another tradition we tried to pick up.
- 11:01I love seafood and we love seafood like a seafood boil.
- 11:05So if Valentine's Day comes like a Monday or Tuesday on the
- 11:08weekend, we would probably do like a small cookout or together
- 11:12for us. But that's changed because we
- 11:15have babies and I don't know, maybe, maybe this year will be
- 11:18spontaneous and have a seafood boil.
- 11:20We'll see. I'm not sure, but that is
- 11:23something we're trying to pick up on.
- 11:25But it's not enough to call it a tradition.
- 11:27We're trying to test it out and we'll have like a bottle of
- 11:29champagne or something to celebrate, but.
- 11:32How about you Rosie? Ever had a Galantines day or
- 11:36anything? Valentine's.
- 11:38I don't even know. I feel like I discovered that a
- 11:40few years ago. I think it's made-up.
- 11:43I don't know when it started, Puerto Rico had no Valentine's
- 11:47Day. I moved over here and even
- 11:48immediately I didn't hear about it.
- 11:50I guess I started seeing some promos on social media and I'm
- 11:52like, what is this Galentine's thing?
- 11:54So I don't think I've ever celebrated a Valentine's Day.
- 11:59We did in Germany. Why did you celebrate Galentine?
- 12:03We did make. Sense Lee.
- 12:06We didn't so didn't call it Valentine's Day, but it was a
- 12:10thing that when it was Valentine's Day and you were
- 12:14single, you all went out with your girlfriends and celebrated
- 12:19together. Going out partying, having
- 12:22dreams and now dancing. Just celebrating being single,
- 12:25being against a crowd. Like other people are going to
- 12:28have fancy dinner. But we are free and liberated,
- 12:33yes. You just reminded me of my best
- 12:35friend in Puerto Rico and we went to like I hate Cupid party.
- 12:40Something like that. We didn't call it Galantine's
- 12:43Day, but it was a Galantine's Day because you were just, it's
- 12:46like no boys allowed. College maybe, but I don't think
- 12:51the term Galantine, no. Not the term Galantine, but it
- 12:54is what Galantine's Day. Now that I think about it, I
- 12:57researched it and Galantine's became famous with this show.
- 13:00I don't know if it was How I Met Your Mother, I would have to
- 13:03Google it again because I Google stuff and then I forget.
- 13:05Motherhood. It became popular with a show.
- 13:07Apparently it did exist, but it wasn't too famous and somebody
- 13:11brought it up on a show and then it became a trend.
- 13:13And then it blew. Yeah.
- 13:15But we did that a lot. Like I was single a lot in my
- 13:18swing. You're.
- 13:19Like so I. Didn't celebrate Valentine's
- 13:22Day. I didn't have a Valentine so I
- 13:24had to be anti Valentine. So when you say Galentine, I'm
- 13:27thinking all your girlfriends get together and celebrate.
- 13:30I'm not even thinking the single part of it.
- 13:32So man, that's why I was like, oh.
- 13:34Yeah, that's when you get together as girls and just, you
- 13:37know, protest Valentine's Day by just celebrating that you're
- 13:43single and free. No commitments.
- 13:47So on that topic, now that we're all married now, are we calling
- 13:52it a Galantine get together because it happens and needs
- 13:55some kind of self we need? Galantine's Day.
- 13:57And so are we making it our thing?
- 13:59Or we should. We're not single.
- 14:01We're calling it Galantine 2.0. What does it matter?
- 14:04I think Galantine Day doesn't have to be a celebration when
- 14:08you're single, sometimes there's just, you know, girls
- 14:11celebrating them. That's what I hear.
- 14:13What do you guys think? I'm all for it.
- 14:15Let's celebrate. It yes, I think at some point I
- 14:17heard like Valentine's Day wasn't just for relationships.
- 14:20It's about love, friendship. That's what I thought.
- 14:24I thought it was more like love, friendship.
- 14:26And I think again, as I got older into like college and
- 14:29dating, you realize, oh, you love, It's a different type of
- 14:32love like from your significant other.
- 14:35It's not just your friend and stuff.
- 14:37But yeah, I would still welcome gifts from my friends always.
- 14:40Yes, please and thank you heart. Shaped pink, red, all the things
- 14:44that's. Gooey chocolate, OK.
- 14:46Not gooey chocolate and that was a heart shape is OK.
- 14:49Yes, that was another thing. I did not like the color pink,
- 14:53which was interesting that I'm like, maybe that's one of the
- 14:55reasons why I just stayed away from it because the the overly
- 15:00pink and that girlish I doubt just wasn't me.
- 15:02I was not that girlish girl that my gosh, everything has glitter
- 15:07and it's pink and I'm just like, no, that's OK.
- 15:10But then they started like, I don't know if you've noticed
- 15:12they have red tones now and I'm like, OK, a heart-shaped red.
- 15:17I will appreciate those. Gold Girl.
- 15:19On that note, what are we doing this Valentine's Day?
- 15:22Well, we should decorate because I have something coming in like
- 15:27a banner and I think balloons are in there too.
- 15:30And it says Galentine's Day. So first Galentine's Day, the
- 15:35Sidpana Valentine's. Day Are we getting cake and
- 15:38cupcakes too? I would say cupcakes is easier.
- 15:41Yeah, I think it's great. What about Fatiago?
- 15:43What are you doing this year? I typically get close to a small
- 15:46daycare so usually like those little sets of candies.
- 15:49I've seen those. Those are cute.
- 15:51It's like a whole pack of the one thing I'll say, though, is
- 15:54like, please don't send my kid chocolate.
- 15:56Like let's not at that age, but anything else is fine in the
- 15:59lollipop. And of course he wants all of
- 16:01it. And I'm like, this is not
- 16:02Halloween. You are not getting all this
- 16:04candy, but let's read the cards. He didn't really care for that.
- 16:06Maybe this year he'll care for the card.
- 16:08I think so because like I said, he's more aware now, so I'm more
- 16:11excited to have him sign because I signed those little things.
- 16:14OK, those took forever. Like you have to sit down and
- 16:19remember everybody's name, which I need to be reminded to get the
- 16:22the of names for his class and writing on it.
- 16:26So this year I'm putting in the work.
- 16:28With girls it is so easy. When my girls were smaller, they
- 16:32had a little bracelet, my hair, but.
- 16:36Here so many options. Now just all kinds of girly in
- 16:39the little rings. For boys, it's.
- 16:41A lot harder, yeah. You like like it?
- 16:44Kinda is 'cause they have the cards and I think the best I've
- 16:46seen was like the little Dino, 'cause you know, he loves his
- 16:50Dino. That was a cue.
- 16:51And I was like, oh, I like that. And and it's a card like, yeah,
- 16:54if it says Amari, everybody in this class will know.
- 16:56And then I've seen where they have a little skateboard, so
- 16:59they have little toys and stuff, different ideas.
- 17:01But then I was building a basket, if that made sense,
- 17:04because I was like, oh, they have the little sachet where you
- 17:07can put more like multiple toys in it.
- 17:09That's how things add up. Now I'm like, I have a dinosaur,
- 17:12a skateboard and a piece of candy because at the end I'm
- 17:14like, and it's fit. I can't just send an empty bag.
- 17:17So yeah, that's where I'm at. I keep it simple.
- 17:20I haven't found anything. Kind of forgot that we're
- 17:23approaching Valentine's Day so haven't been shopping.
- 17:26Enough time. It's still time you get.
- 17:28One lollipop. But we here he goes to a small
- 17:31daycare. There's only four kids there, so
- 17:33that makes it pretty simple. Any tips for anybody that's
- 17:37single or married? Is Valentine's Day anything
- 17:40exciting we want to share? I think for me is just be
- 17:44present, you know, in those moments.
- 17:46Again, I think it ties back to it.
- 17:47It doesn't have to be that specific day because people go
- 17:50crazy with it and expectations and spending.
- 17:54And it's like it doesn't have to be, you know, there are 360 four
- 17:58other days in the year that you can celebrate.
- 18:01So take advantage of that and keep a bit simple.
- 18:05Just cozy it up. Hey, whatever fills your cup
- 18:07kind of thing. Yes, and share your
- 18:09expectations. I think that's one thing too.
- 18:12There are some people that really care about Valentine's
- 18:15Day and making a big deal out of it, and then there are some
- 18:17people that don't really care. So if.
- 18:21You have a significant other. Share with them what your
- 18:25expectations are and what you would like to do because you
- 18:28know, nobody can read mine. If you want to be taken out for
- 18:32dinner, it's OK to say I would like like to go up for dinner
- 18:35for balance. Make the reservations now
- 18:37because last minute reservations for Valentine's Day.
- 18:41Yeah, it's no joke. Don't be the person who's
- 18:44wishing and helping to get a bouquet and chocolates and a
- 18:48whole shebang and not say anything.
- 18:51And when you don't get it, you're all crying about it.
- 18:54There's one thing I learned. If you have expectations, if you
- 18:57want certain things to happen, be proactive, express what you
- 19:01want and it's OK. Well started.
- 19:03My first, I agree with that, and I'll add to that because you
- 19:07reminded me. I've posted a lot of times like
- 19:09a bouquet of flowers. I bought myself flowers because
- 19:12I didn't want to expect them. I did go through disappointments
- 19:16expecting things. I'm like, you know what?
- 19:17I'm just going to get them for myself and at some point he'll
- 19:21be caught on and now and then he'll bring me bouquet of
- 19:23flowers. But it was like I'm just gifting
- 19:25it to myself. So that's what I was thinking
- 19:27about tips like don't buy into the hype.
- 19:30You can also do self love self. Care.
- 19:32I love that, yes. Get yourself something.
- 19:36I also get a Facebook memory that said something like people
- 19:39ask me why I'm single and it's because nobody takes care of me
- 19:42better than I take care of myself.
- 19:44So. Make Valentine's Day whatever
- 19:47you want it to be. You decide what makes you happy,
- 19:50what fills your cup. Just go with it.
- 19:52Somebody can compliment that love, but it doesn't have to
- 19:56just come from that person. Like we can give it to
- 19:58ourselves. We can't self love because you
- 20:00know like self-care girl now like Galentine's can be all face
- 20:04mask getting ready pajamas pajamas yes all the things you
- 20:09know because at the end of the day it's what makes you happy
- 20:14now we. Want to hear from you?
