Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville, Jaguar's fans, welcome in to do Vault Daily, presented by Genjag.com.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Lua.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks so much for being here Tuesday, April 7th, right now.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: We are talking about Dexter Lawrence.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's a gloomy Tuesday morning, but concertally bright in a lot of people's days.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: If Dexter Lawrence who has requested a trade from the New York Giants, ends up in black and teal.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, and
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: You never know.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: The Jack Wars are a team under James Gladstone as their general manager that will be at the very least.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: interested, sniffing around, having a conversation, figuring out what the asking prices for big-time players that become available.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: You always see them now kind of like reported to have some interest or to have spoken with these teams like you saw with Max Crosby, they were in on Quinn and Williams.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: The Jack Wars know they need defensive line help, and Dexter Lawrence
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: has been one of the most dominant interior defensive lineman of the past half decade plus in the NFL.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor Lawrence is former teammate at Climpson, right?
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: Play to you together at Climpson.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: They share the same last name.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Why not get a Lawrence for your defense?
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: If you're at the Jacksonville Jack Wars, makes a lot of sense to me.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: Former first round pick.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: Um, has, has publicly now requested a trade from the New York Giants, and look, part of that is probably wants a new contract, wants to get paid.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so we've seen, we've seen this happen before with big time star players that requested trade, while then the team comes back and they give them a big contract and set the market and all of a sudden you're like, okay, I'm okay with being here, you know, miles get it.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen this before, right?
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: Um,
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: But if the giants are potentially willing to accept a trade offer, should the jag wars be into it?
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, in my opinion, without any question.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the asking price is going to be critical here.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you're giving up, you know.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: two years of first round picks and what complicates things for the jackwars and potentially trading for a start-up in the lineman like they've been kind of sniffing around out over the last several months since the trade deadline basically they don't have a first round pick for 2026.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: They use that to acquire Travis Hunter, which I'm not criticizing at all.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: I still think that was a wonderful move to get Travis Hunter in Duval, but it does complicate things when it comes to trying to add a star into your defensive lineman or past Russia, whatever it may be.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: So the reporting now is saying like the giants are probably asking for a first or second
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: also in 56 and another day to pick your way.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: No problem.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: If they're definitely requiring a first round pick, could you offer 27 first round pick and then a day to pick this year?
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: 56 in your first round pick next year.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: 56 is the Jaguar's first pick of the second round here in 2026.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: Draft's coming up in less than three weeks now, which is pretty exciting, but yeah, Dexter Lawrence, if you're able to swing that and yeah, it's going to come with a big price tag, no doubt about it from a draft capital standpoint from like you're probably signing him to a new contract.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: You're probably, if not setting the market, getting dang close to it.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like right now, Chris Jones is at 31.75 million per year.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're definitely hitting that 30 mark, the very least for, for Dexter Lawrence.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then you have an incredibly expensive defensive line with Josh Hind's Allen Trayvall Walker and Dexter Lawrence.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's 28, he'll turn 29 in November.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's still 100% in the prime of his career.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I think being surrounded by the type of guy he's going to be surrounded with and Duval and in the Anthony Camp and Eli defense, like this is the type of move that could potentially help you win a Super Bowl.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: I strongly believe that.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: He is more of a nose tackle.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: He definitely plays the B-gap as well, but this is a guy who's gonna be playing anywhere from head up on the center all the way out to like, three tech for you.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: He can do it all there in that realm.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: He can really move out even further than that.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he is a freak show at 342 pounds.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: He ran like almost a 504 yard dash, which that's crazy at that size.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: And you see that explosiveness on tape.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: You see the blocked deconstruction, the strength, he's incredibly strong, dominant run defender, and a really, really good pass pressure.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: everybody might point to the fact that he didn't get any sack last year.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: He was still wreaking havoc in the backfield without question.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think that
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: The Circumstances over the New York Giants last couple years have made it a little bit more difficult to produce as high as he was in 22 and 23.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's more about Circumstance than it is about skill or hitting a wall going downhill.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that that's the case at all.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Dexter Lawrence, if he came into this Jacksonville environment and the Jaguars are scoring points on offense and you're able to pin your ears back a little bit,
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: unbelievable situation for him.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: And for the jag wars, I would love to see it.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: The cost is really going to be the key here.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: And as much as I would love to see it, like, do I think that they could potentially get somebody who can wreak havoc in the backfield at 56 overall?
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: Or if they trade up and give up a lot less draft capital to go get a player than it would cost to get Dexter
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: is a peak interior defensive lineman who not only is a great pass rusher from the interior.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of the best run defending defensive tackles in the game today and the jag war is they're not going to want to give up their ability to stop the run.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: They were the number one run defensive in the NFL last year.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: They were, I mean, they shot everybody down pretty much, even the bills in the playoffs.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: One of the teams that was incredibly difficult to shut down the run game, they shut James Cook down.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: So if you bring Dexter Lawrence in, that ain't going anywhere.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's one thing you love to see.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you do have Devon Hamilton under contract for 2026.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: I just, in this calculus, like, in nowhere, no way is Devon Hamilton, who is a great run defender, stopping me from pursuing a Dexter Lawrence.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: I loved Devon Hamilton.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: I love his game.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: I love what he does for the Jaguars, but he's not stopping me from pursuing Dexter Lawrence.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's just not, even though, same position, not the same type of player.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: Devon Hamilton is a very little impact when it comes to rushing the passer, dexter Lawrence about as high impact as you can get for that archetype.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it, I mean, by a wide margin, there is not a single nose tackle in football that can rush the passer at anywhere close to the level that dexter Lawrence can.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I would be very much in.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then you talk about having,
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Hines Allen, Trayvon Walker, Dexter Lawrence, Eric Armstrong, set on the field together.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big deal right there to me.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that would be pretty incredible for the Jaguars.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I would be willing to be aggressive to make it happen.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Again, 28 years old, I don't think there's any reason to believe that there's not a lot of good years left in him.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: You sign him to a what?
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: At this age, probably three years, maybe four.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: So team out after the second year or third year.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be in on it.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars should be very interested.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, if a team out there is going to end up offering a 2026 first round pick, that's probably just going to be more than the Jaguars are able to compete with.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: But if it starts becoming a second round pick type of conversation or second round pick
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: You look ahead to 2027, 2028.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: They've got first round picks in those drafts, and I know people are gonna be like, oh, we can't trade it in way another first round pick.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: The Rams for 10 years, they had one first round pick.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: You do not have to operate the way the rest of League operates.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: You do not have to operate under this assumption that you have to have first round picks.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: If you get Dexter Lawrence playing good football for the next three years,
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: with Trayvon Walker and Josh Hines Allen.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you are creating what could be the makings of a Super Bowl caliber defensive line.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm here for it.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know what you think in the comment section below.
