Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome into this week's episode of Inside the Charge. Matty
- 0:03Speaker 1: glab here, and we've got a super exciting guest that
- 0:06Speaker 1: I think people actually know, not actually they definitely know worldwide.
- 0:10Speaker 1: It's TikTok star Josh Richards. He's a content career and
- 0:22Speaker 1: has twenty six million followers on TikTok and the millions
- 0:26Speaker 1: go beyond that if you look onto YouTube and Instagram.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I mean, you blew up on TikTok a few years back,
- 0:33Speaker 1: and it's been so fun to kind of read about
- 0:36Speaker 1: where you started, where you came from. And you started
- 0:40Speaker 1: and came from somewhere a little bit close to Buffalo,
- 0:43Speaker 1: which I love that we have you here today to
- 0:45Speaker 1: talk about all of that. You grew up about an
- 0:47Speaker 1: hour outside of Toronto, and you have some ties to
- 0:51Speaker 1: Bill's mafia.
- 0:52Speaker 2: So that's where we're going to start here. Josh. Okay,
- 0:55Speaker 2: when did you become a Bills fan?
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:59Speaker 4: So when I was a younger kid, we used to
- 1:01Speaker 4: come to Buffalo, me and my dad a lot for
- 1:02Speaker 4: sporting events because the sporting events in Buffalo were a
- 1:06Speaker 4: lot cheaper than the sporting.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Events in Tronto.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Like you were going to sit nosebleeds at a Toronto
- 1:10Speaker 4: Maple Leafs game, you could kind of get, you know,
- 1:12Speaker 4: mid section at of Buffalo Sabers games. So very quickly
- 1:15Speaker 4: I started kind of having, like any Buffalo team kind
- 1:18Speaker 4: of became that guilty pleasure team to cheer for. Like
- 1:20Speaker 4: obviously I was, you know, tied to Toronto and those were
- 1:22Speaker 4: the roots. But when the Bills came and started doing
- 1:25Speaker 4: their their Toronto series where they would play in Toronto
- 1:28Speaker 4: play at Rogers, that's when they kind of became even
- 1:32Speaker 4: more of like Canada's team I feel like, and really
- 1:35Speaker 4: became my home team. So it was it was a
- 1:37Speaker 4: pretty easy decision to start chain for the book.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I love that.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So it started with the Sabers first and then it
- 1:41Speaker 1: kind of bled into the Bills. I know some people
- 1:44Speaker 1: may think, like, Okay, there's these stars in the world
- 1:47Speaker 1: who have a lot of influence and power on social media,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and people kind of just pick a team that they're
- 1:52Speaker 1: going to root for, or like pick a flavor of
- 1:54Speaker 1: the month, like I'm gonna be this fan here, I'm
- 1:56Speaker 1: gonna be this fan there. But like, you actually have
- 1:59Speaker 1: ties to Buffalo, this community, the Sabers and the Bills, which.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I think is so awesome.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So what have you thought of the team the last
- 2:05Speaker 1: couple of years? What have you thought of the Bills
- 2:08Speaker 1: when you've gotten to watch a couple of games because
- 2:10Speaker 1: you've been here before too.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I mean we were talking about it before,
- 2:14Speaker 4: Like came here last year for the Snow Game when
- 2:16Speaker 4: it was Buffalo versus Miami, So that was pretty insane.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I love being able to be a Bills fan. They're
- 2:22Speaker 4: exciting games, they're great games to watch. We obviously have
- 2:25Speaker 4: a really strong team, so it's a fun time to
- 2:27Speaker 4: be a Bills fan.
- 2:29Speaker 3: And I'm ready for us to just win a super Bowl.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You know you mean both. I think we just allen
- 2:35Speaker 2: team coaching staff.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Yeah, come on, we got it.
- 2:39Speaker 2: What do you think of Bill's Mafia?
- 2:40Speaker 1: I mean, what was that vibe like at the Bills
- 2:43Speaker 1: Dolphins game last year?
- 2:44Speaker 2: The snow Game.
- 2:46Speaker 4: It was probably the coolest NFL game experience I've ever had.
- 2:51Speaker 4: I was telling actually the people we traveled here with
- 2:55Speaker 4: that I have more fun going to that Buffalo Miami
- 2:59Speaker 4: game than I did going in Arizona.
- 3:00Speaker 3: For the Super Bowl.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Like just the the environment in Buffalo, having it be
- 3:04Speaker 4: a snow game too, Like that was a lot of fun,
- 3:06Speaker 4: like snowball fights. Like during the game, people are throwing
- 3:09Speaker 4: snowballs into the field. Like the the energy that Bill's
- 3:15Speaker 4: Mafia brings to a game is it's unmatched. So and
- 3:18Speaker 4: they kind of treat every game like it's their super Bowl,
- 3:20Speaker 4: which I love.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Do you have any favorite players this year? Are you
- 3:24Speaker 1: a Are you a big Josh Allen fan? Big Steph
- 3:26Speaker 1: Diggs fan? Do you have one that you cheer for more?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Do you have a guy that you feel like you
- 3:30Speaker 1: have similarities with? Who do you like to cheer for?
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean obviously Josh Allen Diggs. How can you not?
- 3:37Speaker 4: You know? Yeah, I share the name of Josh Allen,
- 3:39Speaker 4: So it's like the guy. The guy has a great name,
- 3:42Speaker 4: his parents did that one thing.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Definitely super right, so.
- 3:46Speaker 4: And probably a couple other things too. He's like an
- 3:47Speaker 4: NFL Superstars So but yeah, yeah, yeah, I love Josh
- 3:51Speaker 4: Allen Stefan Diggs.
- 3:52Speaker 1: You also had a really cool opportunity this past year
- 3:55Speaker 1: at the NFL Draft. You got to announce the Bills
- 3:58Speaker 1: pick Dorian Williams. What was it like to be on
- 4:00Speaker 1: that stage, to kind of have that rush of adrenaline.
- 4:03Speaker 1: How was that experience in general.
- 4:05Speaker 4: The Buffalo Bills select Dorian Williams linebacker Duwaine Let's go.
- 4:12Speaker 3: That was really cool.
- 4:12Speaker 4: And to be able to do that in Kansas City
- 4:15Speaker 4: as well, who obviously is like a pretty big rival
- 4:17Speaker 4: for a Bill, Like, yeah, yeah, it was fun. It
- 4:20Speaker 4: was fun. It kind of felt like it felt like
- 4:24Speaker 4: what I would imagine talking to a crowd in the WW.
- 4:26Speaker 4: You would feel like like there were cheers and booze,
- 4:29Speaker 4: and it was back and forth, and like, you know,
- 4:31Speaker 4: I was bringing them in a little bit with like
- 4:32Speaker 4: complimenting Kansas City just to like tear them back down
- 4:35Speaker 4: and be like, but this is our year.
- 4:37Speaker 3: So that was a lot of fun.
- 4:38Speaker 4: And getting to do a draft and like kind of
- 4:40Speaker 4: be a part of the future of the Bills is
- 4:42Speaker 4: really really cool.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So do you get a different type of rush or
- 4:45Speaker 1: a different type of feeling from doing stuff like that
- 4:48Speaker 1: in front of a crowd versus like doing a TikTok
- 4:52Speaker 1: video that blows up.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 4:54Speaker 4: I Mean, when you're in front of the people, even
- 4:58Speaker 4: if it's a lot less people, you know, I'm so
- 5:00Speaker 4: much more of a real moment than likes or comments
- 5:03Speaker 4: on a screen.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Speaking of likes and comments, you get so many of those,
- 5:16Speaker 1: and I think people, you know, they could come across
- 5:18Speaker 1: your page on TikTok or be scrolling and see one
- 5:21Speaker 1: of your videos pop up, and they could think like, oh,
- 5:24Speaker 1: this kid just blew up overnight and it was just
- 5:28Speaker 1: happen off one video.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But if you really look at your story.
- 5:32Speaker 1: You started making content way before TikTok even existed.
- 5:35Speaker 2: So when did that start for you?
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:38Speaker 4: Yeah, So the start of the TikTok was really with
- 5:44Speaker 4: musically and it was pretty like byte Dance coming in
- 5:46Speaker 4: buying it, and it was me and my sister. Me
- 5:48Speaker 4: and my sister are making videos in our parents' basement
- 5:51Speaker 4: having a blast.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And one of the videos that.
- 5:54Speaker 4: My sister posted on her account, because I didn't even
- 5:56Speaker 4: have any account at the start, it blew up but
- 6:00Speaker 4: really got like fifty likes, fifteen likes, something in that range.
- 6:02Speaker 3: But to us that was viral.
- 6:04Speaker 4: We're running around the house, we're celebrating, our parents are
- 6:08Speaker 4: like throwing.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Under ground usk because we're being noisy.
- 6:10Speaker 4: And then I saw there were two comments on the
- 6:13Speaker 4: video and they were girls and they were asking what
- 6:15Speaker 4: my username was. I was like kind of feeling myself
- 6:17Speaker 4: a little bit like all right, So I ended up
- 6:20Speaker 4: making an account and it kind of rests history. Like
- 6:24Speaker 4: me and my sister just started making videos every day
- 6:26Speaker 4: we found out we could go live. I cut my
- 6:28Speaker 4: sister down on like a fifteen percent commission based salary.
- 6:31Speaker 4: We started going live every day and like being able
- 6:34Speaker 4: to make some money for a fourteen year old thirteen
- 6:36Speaker 4: year old and it was just like a.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Lot of fun. And that was kind of like our
- 6:39Speaker 3: summer project.
- 6:40Speaker 4: And the last week before my high school year started,
- 6:45Speaker 4: I had a video blow up and it got that
- 6:48Speaker 4: year was.
- 6:48Speaker 3: That that was twenty.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Sixteen, Okay, I want to say so we had like
- 6:58Speaker 4: my first video ever kind of go viral for real,
- 7:00Speaker 4: got like two hundred and fifty thousand likes, and I
- 7:02Speaker 4: woke up with twenty six thousand followers, and I had
- 7:05Speaker 4: like two days before my first day of high school ever,
- 7:07Speaker 4: and I was like, well, this is gonna be awesome
- 7:09Speaker 4: to throw in the mix. Wasn't awesome. Actually went to
- 7:11Speaker 4: high school. It did not help at all.
- 7:13Speaker 3: But you know, it was worth it in the end.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Look at me now, I mean, you're a good brother, though,
- 7:17Speaker 1: for giving your siss some commission there.
- 7:19Speaker 4: I mean, she deserved it. I probably was fleecing it.
- 7:22Speaker 4: I was probably fleecing her. Honestly, she was probably doing
- 7:24Speaker 4: more work than fifteen percent commission based salary. So you know,
- 7:28Speaker 4: she's in LA with me now though working at Crosscheck
- 7:30Speaker 4: at the production company she has. She's gonna stay down
- 7:32Speaker 4: for a year, so hopefully she feels like I've made it.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Up to her somehow.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, definitely, definitely.
- 7:37Speaker 1: So you say, you go to high school and you
- 7:39Speaker 1: think blowing up overnight or making this video that blew
- 7:42Speaker 1: up is gonna help you know your street cred in
- 7:44Speaker 1: high school.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Then you go to high school and.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It's probably a different story. But what was it like
- 7:49Speaker 1: to be a normal high school kid in that high
- 7:52Speaker 1: school and then on the side continuously start to gain
- 7:56Speaker 1: a bigger and bigger following.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think because I grew up in such.
- 8:02Speaker 4: A small town or a smaller town, like the town
- 8:04Speaker 4: of Coburg had sixteen seventy thousand people when I lived
- 8:08Speaker 4: in it, so I knew everyone in the town. Everyone
- 8:10Speaker 4: knew everybody in the town. So I think that all
- 8:14Speaker 4: the kids, you know, it's not like their perspective on
- 8:16Speaker 4: me change when I started doing videos in the light
- 8:19Speaker 4: of like, oh, this kid's famous, and I was just
- 8:21Speaker 4: this is Josh Richard's doing silly videos one and yeah.
- 8:24Speaker 4: So then as time went on, I think, to me,
- 8:29Speaker 4: it kind of like it didn't feel it didn't feel
- 8:31Speaker 4: real because I was just seeing the same people I
- 8:33Speaker 4: saw every day. It's not like I was in a
- 8:34Speaker 4: big city and you know, people weren't coming up and
- 8:36Speaker 4: asking for a photo or anything. And then when I
- 8:38Speaker 4: went to my first ever social media event called Playlists,
- 8:42Speaker 4: and it was in DC. I went to that event
- 8:45Speaker 4: and I walked into the hotel and I had like
- 8:47Speaker 4: my bags with me, and I like, remember this moment
- 8:49Speaker 4: for the rest of my life. And I go to
- 8:51Speaker 4: check in and pretty much as soon as I walked
- 8:55Speaker 4: through the doors, there were like three or four people
- 8:57Speaker 4: that come up and ask for a photo. And though
- 8:59Speaker 4: that was the first time I had ever and asked
- 9:00Speaker 4: for a photo before, so I was kind of like
- 9:02Speaker 4: at first I thought they wanted me to take a
- 9:03Speaker 4: photo of them. I was like, yeah, I can take
- 9:05Speaker 4: a photo of you, and they're like no, no, no, like
- 9:07Speaker 4: with you, like can you be in our photo? And
- 9:08Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, yeah, I can be in your photo.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Sick.
- 9:12Speaker 4: So I was I think I was more excited that
- 9:14Speaker 4: they asked me for a photo than they were to
- 9:16Speaker 4: get a photo with me.
- 9:18Speaker 3: But that's when like kind of the first like whoa,
- 9:20Speaker 3: what the heck this is?
- 9:21Speaker 4: This is real moment came and I like just fell
- 9:24Speaker 4: in love with it and started doing.
- 9:26Speaker 3: It every day since then.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Would you call yourself an overnight celebrity and overnight sensation
- 9:30Speaker 1: or do you think you wouldn't even put a label
- 9:32Speaker 1: like that on it because it took a lot longer
- 9:34Speaker 1: than many people think that it did.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I definitely wouldn't. I definitely wouldn't put a label
- 9:39Speaker 4: on it like that. I also think I got I
- 9:41Speaker 4: got more work to do, you know, like I got
- 9:43Speaker 4: more stuff I.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Want to come out with.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It will sound like an NFL player.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe it's just you know, it's a set, it's
- 9:49Speaker 4: not being a vibe.
- 9:50Speaker 2: So I love that. I love that. What is your
- 9:54Speaker 2: favorite type of content to create?
- 9:55Speaker 1: Because if you go to your page, you've got a
- 9:57Speaker 1: little bit of everything. You've got Dana Liiston, you've got
- 10:00Speaker 1: stuff with your girlfriend, you have lipstick, you have trends, Like,
- 10:03Speaker 1: is there a favorite in your mind?
- 10:05Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:05Speaker 4: Yeah, obviously I love making contact with my girlfriend. I
- 10:08Speaker 4: feel like if I didn't say that should probably be
- 10:10Speaker 4: a little bit upset.
- 10:10Speaker 3: That's my favorite thank you.
- 10:14Speaker 4: But I think actually, right now, we're working on a
- 10:16Speaker 4: project with cross Check. It's a comedy sketch show we're doing,
- 10:20Speaker 4: and that has been probably my favorite piece of content.
- 10:24Speaker 3: That I've ever worked on in my life.
- 10:26Speaker 4: It's it's been such a fun process to be involved,
- 10:29Speaker 4: from like getting to be in the writer's room to
- 10:31Speaker 4: you know, being on set at the end of the
- 10:33Speaker 4: day when we're filming and I get to, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 4: help a little bit with giving suggestions and directing. But
- 10:38Speaker 4: a lot of it for me is you know, being
- 10:40Speaker 4: in front of the camera and getting to try a
- 10:42Speaker 4: new character every day and I'm just yeah, I'm really.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Excited to see what people think about it and it'll be.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Come So what else has this industry being on TikTok,
- 10:53Speaker 1: having the following that you do, like twenty six million
- 10:56Speaker 1: on TikTok? What doors has that opened for you? You you
- 10:59Speaker 1: talked a cross Check there and getting to do a
- 11:02Speaker 1: new type of show.
- 11:04Speaker 2: What other doors has.
- 11:05Speaker 1: This opened for you that you've kind of fallen in
- 11:08Speaker 1: love with and never thought that your life could kind
- 11:10Speaker 1: of lead to the things that you're doing now.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean so many different opportunities. I think, you know,
- 11:15Speaker 4: it's it's kind of like what you make of it. Like,
- 11:18Speaker 4: obviously you can become big in any area, if that's
- 11:22Speaker 4: even football, and then you can go and branch out. Right,
- 11:24Speaker 4: you see people come in, unless you see people start
- 11:26Speaker 4: to have their own shows.
- 11:27Speaker 3: You see people.
- 11:27Speaker 4: So I think for me, it was very much like
- 11:30Speaker 4: I knew I had a following, and I knew I
- 11:32Speaker 4: had an audience, but how could I move this into
- 11:34Speaker 4: different genres?
- 11:34Speaker 3: Right?
- 11:35Speaker 4: So being able to go into venture, being able to invest,
- 11:39Speaker 4: that's something that I always loved the idea of, but
- 11:42Speaker 4: obviously you don't have the connections and the town of
- 11:44Speaker 4: Cobrat to get into that. So being able to find
- 11:48Speaker 4: social media and then find the right people after that
- 11:49Speaker 4: were able to mentor me, that was amazing. I mean,
- 11:52Speaker 4: doing social media allowed me to get into contact with
- 11:54Speaker 4: Mark Wahlberg and start the production company and really get
- 11:57Speaker 4: that off the ground and get to have mentor ship
- 12:00Speaker 4: from you know, one of the greats I believe, like
- 12:02Speaker 4: I truly think he's He's awesome and just such a
- 12:05Speaker 4: surreal person. So I think I think it's it's it's
- 12:10Speaker 4: open countless stores.
- 12:11Speaker 1: You are one of the biggest stars on social media.
- 12:14Speaker 1: You have a really good hold of what social media is,
- 12:17Speaker 1: of videos that get a lot of attention, get a
- 12:20Speaker 1: lot of likes, get a lot of love, get a
- 12:21Speaker 1: lot of comments.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Where do you think social media is headed?
- 12:25Speaker 3: Who?
- 12:27Speaker 4: I mean, obviously, I feel like right now we're seeing
- 12:29Speaker 4: like the air of the podcast right shout out Barstool.
- 12:32Speaker 4: That's another opportunity that I got. Yeah, social media, So
- 12:34Speaker 4: shout out Dave. Always really appreciate him and like bring
- 12:37Speaker 4: me into that world. But I think right now we're
- 12:41Speaker 4: starting to see live streaming really take over these like
- 12:45Speaker 4: I like day in a life streams, these streams that
- 12:48Speaker 4: are going all day long, Like people are starting to stream.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Their entire twelve hour day. Twitch is absolutely taking over.
- 12:55Speaker 4: TikTok is now starting to try to compete with Twitch
- 12:57Speaker 4: with their live stream features. I've noticed how much more
- 13:00Speaker 4: time they've put into the live Uh. Now we're seeing
- 13:03Speaker 4: competitors like Kick and Rumbles. So I really, I really
- 13:06Speaker 4: see this.
- 13:07Speaker 3: New movement kind of going into into live streaming.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Does that excite you or does it freak you out
- 13:12Speaker 2: a little?
- 13:12Speaker 3: Bit. No, it excites me. It excites me.
- 13:14Speaker 4: I always love when there's something new to crack or
- 13:16Speaker 4: new to try. I kind of came up live streaming.
- 13:19Speaker 4: That's what I originally did, so to get back into it.
- 13:21Speaker 4: If I were to get back into it would be
- 13:22Speaker 4: would be a blast. Like I would stream four hours
- 13:25Speaker 4: a day, every single night from ten pm till two am,
- 13:27Speaker 4: from the age of fourteen to seventeen.
- 13:30Speaker 2: So yeah, back to my roots.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Yeah, going back to the roots. That's fun for me.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Speaking of roots, I'm thinking of hair right now. And
- 13:37Speaker 1: you've got you've got a flow and you broke the
- 13:39Speaker 1: Internet over your flow. When have you always had this hairstyle?
- 13:45Speaker 1: Tell me about the hair. Tell me about your favorite
- 13:47Speaker 1: way that you've worn it, because you've also had some
- 13:49Speaker 1: different colors in there as well.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean I'm liking I'm liking the hair
- 13:54Speaker 3: eight now, just kind of flowing it back. It's easy.
- 13:56Speaker 3: I like the dark hair. Uh.
- 14:00Speaker 4: I feel like I went through a couple of awkward
- 14:02Speaker 4: stages until I figured out what I like.
- 14:04Speaker 3: You know, I think it was kind of like a
- 14:05Speaker 3: trial and error thing.
- 14:06Speaker 4: I used to always have it like in the front
- 14:07Speaker 4: and just spike it up, which was easy and great,
- 14:11Speaker 4: but no, I like it now.
- 14:12Speaker 3: I like now a lot. I used to be like
- 14:14Speaker 3: the kid that had like the Biber haircut in grade
- 14:16Speaker 3: three that was like.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Doing that all the time, Like I'm probably gonna have
- 14:20Speaker 4: like next spasms when I'm like sixty or something from
- 14:23Speaker 4: it sucks, Sue Justin Bieber.
- 14:26Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, so I like how it is that.
- 14:28Speaker 1: What are some of the best comments you've gotten from
- 14:30Speaker 1: your hair on the Internet. Are there any that stick
- 14:33Speaker 1: out in your mind?
- 14:34Speaker 2: Or is it just the.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Volume of comments that you've gotten about the hair volume?
- 14:38Speaker 2: The volume I realize.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Yeah, don't.
- 14:43Speaker 4: I don't know if I feel like I feel like
- 14:46Speaker 4: the most common one I see, or like the one
- 14:48Speaker 4: that sends with the most is like people that are.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Like I want to touch his hair, which I think
- 14:51Speaker 3: is kind of a weird.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Things like yeah, comment you know, I would never comment
- 14:55Speaker 4: like I want to touch your hair in someone's post, but.
- 14:59Speaker 3: But here we all it's all good.
- 15:01Speaker 4: I want to ask to touch your hair, Okay, okay, okay, yeah, yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 4: Gobby would not be happy with that.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I'm not doing that, Gabby, don't worry about that. Another
- 15:10Speaker 1: question for you about just the following that you've been
- 15:13Speaker 1: able to get and the attention that you have on
- 15:17Speaker 1: your page. What's the recipe for going viral if I
- 15:19Speaker 1: wanted to go viral? Do you have a recipe of
- 15:22Speaker 1: how you should go viral?
- 15:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I always believe a lot in like
- 15:28Speaker 4: kind of just consistency and trial and error.
- 15:30Speaker 3: You know.
- 15:32Speaker 4: That's how I really came up in TikTok and social media.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Was just posting, posting, posting, trying to find my voice,
- 15:40Speaker 4: trying to find that character, trying to find like who
- 15:43Speaker 4: Josh Richards was going to portray on social media. And yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 4: so for me, I was posting five tiktoks a day.
- 15:51Speaker 4: I was, like I said, going live for four hours
- 15:53Speaker 4: a day. Like, I was just doing like a large
- 15:56Speaker 4: amount of content that was a lot of my focus.
- 15:58Speaker 4: And you kind of slowly but surely start to get
- 16:01Speaker 4: more and more and integrated into that for you page,
- 16:03Speaker 4: People start to recognize your face a little bit more
- 16:05Speaker 4: and more, and it's it might take a little bit
- 16:08Speaker 4: of time, or maybe you find a video that's like
- 16:11Speaker 4: really good and you come up with something original, or
- 16:13Speaker 4: you find a trend and you're able to put your
- 16:14Speaker 4: spin on it and it pops and then that's.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Gonna boost all your other videos. So I think it's
- 16:19Speaker 3: just consistency.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, what's something or what are things that happened
- 16:23Speaker 1: behind the scenes, whether it's content creation, just your life
- 16:26Speaker 1: that you wish that people saw. I mean people see
- 16:28Speaker 1: a lot of your life. Yeah, anything that you wish
- 16:32Speaker 1: people saw, whether it's the hard work, the planning, the
- 16:35Speaker 1: ideation that goes into all of this stuff that probably
- 16:38Speaker 1: takes a lot more time than people think it does.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it would be.
- 16:42Speaker 4: We've talked about even like doing kind of like a
- 16:46Speaker 4: documentary or like fun little like mockumentary, like have some
- 16:50Speaker 4: comedy in it, but like get to show the inside
- 16:53Speaker 4: of cross Check in like this gen Z production company.
- 16:56Speaker 3: And you know, the writer's rooms when we're writing for the.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Comedy sketch show, in our weekly meetings that we have
- 17:02Speaker 4: as a company, and kind of like the whole process
- 17:04Speaker 4: being on set.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Like getting to show people really.
- 17:07Speaker 4: How we've been able to run this company and how
- 17:11Speaker 4: everyone's you know, putting in their work. I think would
- 17:13Speaker 4: be really cool and fun, and there's a lot of
- 17:15Speaker 4: funny moments we have. It's a great place to be,
- 17:17Speaker 4: like I feel like we've all been able to really
- 17:22Speaker 4: cultivate a really a cool machine that works so well
- 17:25Speaker 4: together and at the same time gets to have like
- 17:28Speaker 4: a ton of fun. So I'd love to be able
- 17:30Speaker 4: to show that to the world.
- 17:31Speaker 1: You talk about these funny moments and the things that
- 17:34Speaker 1: you're involved in going forward, that I have a lot
- 17:36Speaker 1: of comedy in them, a lot of humor in them.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Is there anything that you look back on when you
- 17:41Speaker 1: were gaining that following that maybe was embarrassing at the time,
- 17:45Speaker 1: but you can now look back at and laugh about.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I'm never gonna I'm never gonna be
- 17:52Speaker 4: able to live down the eye roll. That was like
- 17:54Speaker 4: a pretty big thing that I did on tour when
- 17:57Speaker 4: we did a social media tour, which was like the
- 18:00Speaker 4: silliest and I don't understand why people liked it, but
- 18:03Speaker 4: it was just like you like tap fingers on your
- 18:05Speaker 4: head and like roll your eyes and it was like
- 18:07Speaker 4: a TikTok thing, And it's like, I really like, even
- 18:10Speaker 4: talking about it like makes my stomach turn.
- 18:13Speaker 3: I'm like, why did I ever do that?
- 18:15Speaker 4: But there's like videos on the internet of me on
- 18:18Speaker 4: stage and it's like I'm doing the iroll and then
- 18:21Speaker 4: like the whole audience is like and like freaking out,
- 18:23Speaker 4: and I wish that could just like leave this planet.
- 18:25Speaker 4: I wish that was never a thing.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Right, I'm done.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that you live a life of chasing the next video,
- 18:34Speaker 1: of finding out what the next trend is, of finding
- 18:37Speaker 1: out what the next what the next app is that
- 18:40Speaker 1: people are going to be on. With the fast pacedness
- 18:43Speaker 1: of all of that, how do you find time to
- 18:46Speaker 1: just like be in the moment? And I think we
- 18:48Speaker 1: all struggle with that as humans, So how do you
- 18:51Speaker 1: find time to be in the moment?
- 18:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I have a time around all my social media apps,
- 18:57Speaker 4: so like, I think that's been my biggest thing. It's
- 19:01Speaker 4: just kind of setting a timer. And like I think
- 19:03Speaker 4: people sometimes will hear that when I say it, and
- 19:05Speaker 4: they think, like I like abide by this timer and
- 19:08Speaker 4: I live by it. Like I put like an hour
- 19:09Speaker 4: timer thirty minutes or whatever it is on my social
- 19:12Speaker 4: media apps, and everyone's like, dang, he only does thirty minutes.
- 19:15Speaker 4: As impossible this guy's line. It's like, nah, I don't
- 19:18Speaker 4: necessarily only do thirty minutes, Like obviously I got work
- 19:20Speaker 4: I'm doing or I'm like going on and like looking
- 19:21Speaker 4: for videos or maybe I'm.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Just bumming out and I'm just watching stuff online.
- 19:25Speaker 4: Right, But that thirty minute timer it allows me to
- 19:29Speaker 4: know how much time I've been spending on my phone, right,
- 19:31Speaker 4: and it kind of gives me a second. It's just
- 19:33Speaker 4: like when Netflix kind of hits you with the like
- 19:35Speaker 4: you've really still watching and you're kind of like you
- 19:37Speaker 4: all of a sudden feel bad and you're like, all right,
- 19:39Speaker 4: maybe I'm gonna go do like one hundred.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Push ups or something.
- 19:42Speaker 4: So like it's it's just something like that, right, Like
- 19:44Speaker 4: it gives me a little alri It's kind of like,
- 19:46Speaker 4: all right, I've been on this app now for a
- 19:48Speaker 4: certain amount of time, Like I know that, am I
- 19:50Speaker 4: doing anything productive right now on this app? Or am
- 19:53Speaker 4: I just kind of like scroll in because I've like
- 19:55Speaker 4: gone down the rabbit hole? Yeah, So it's it. I
- 19:58Speaker 4: love that I think that kind of how say, it
- 20:00Speaker 4: allows me to disconnect. And then I also try to
- 20:01Speaker 4: go in the like a camping trip every like every
- 20:05Speaker 4: like two months.
- 20:06Speaker 3: I love to go on like a camping trip.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Me and like a bunch of my friends, we all
- 20:09Speaker 4: kind of like get together carpooled down. We'll drive somewhere
- 20:13Speaker 4: in California, Like we were talking about California.
- 20:15Speaker 3: It's got so much off.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Or just like you can go to Big Bear and
- 20:18Speaker 4: be skiing in mountains, or you can like go to
- 20:20Speaker 4: Joshua Tree and being like the desert.
- 20:22Speaker 3: So we'll go out and.
- 20:24Speaker 4: We'll camp together and just like bring our cars, find
- 20:27Speaker 4: a find a nice little like campsite, tent up, eat
- 20:31Speaker 4: by the fire all week and just have like a
- 20:33Speaker 4: weekend where completely disconnected from social media.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Yeah, no one's on their phones or like we're like
- 20:40Speaker 4: bringing out guitars all singing our own music. Like it's
- 20:43Speaker 4: no speakers, no nothing, it's just you and the you
- 20:46Speaker 4: and the boys in the wild.
- 20:47Speaker 3: It's great.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I love that.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Since you have such a big following, since you have fans,
- 20:52Speaker 1: since you're recognizable in public to a lot of people,
- 20:55Speaker 1: do you feel like you can draw any similarities to
- 20:57Speaker 1: the NFL players and the lives that they.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Kind of live.
- 21:02Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I mean I feel like it's a it's a total
- 21:04Speaker 4: different I think they're like they're two different worlds.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Obviously, you know, like a lot.
- 21:08Speaker 4: Of them do step into I feel social media, Like Kyreek,
- 21:11Speaker 4: for example, he's streaming. He's streaming now, playing video games,
- 21:14Speaker 4: going live. So that's just really really cool. And you know,
- 21:17Speaker 4: there's some of this same like in like, you know,
- 21:20Speaker 4: we both get asked for photos when we get on
- 21:22Speaker 4: the street. But I feel like, you know, they got
- 21:25Speaker 4: a little bit of a different lifestyle than than I do,
- 21:27Speaker 4: and I have a different lifestyle than them.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Like they're waking up in the mornings and going.
- 21:32Speaker 4: To work, like and getting in that work for football,
- 21:34Speaker 4: and then if I'm waking up in the mornings, I'm
- 21:36Speaker 4: like waking up in the mornings and going memorizing a script,
- 21:39Speaker 4: you know what I mean, and then going on set
- 21:41Speaker 4: and then we're filming for twelve hours. So it's definitely
- 21:43Speaker 4: just it's a total different a total different life. I mean,
- 21:46Speaker 4: these guys are like the best athletes in the in
- 21:48Speaker 4: the world for a reason.
- 21:49Speaker 1: You know, if you could trade lives with one of
- 21:52Speaker 1: them doesn't have to be a Bills player. Is there
- 21:54Speaker 1: any any NFL player that you would want to trade
- 21:57Speaker 1: lives with based on what you're what you see on
- 21:59Speaker 1: social media, I'm.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Gonna go Josh allenh Yeah, I don't have to change
- 22:03Speaker 4: much about my name, just the last name. Yeah, Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 4: you just have to drop Richards throwing Allen. It's pretty
- 22:09Speaker 4: much all the same from there, Like you know what
- 22:11Speaker 4: I mean, I feel like we're built pretty much the same.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Josh kind of has a little bit of flow going
- 22:16Speaker 1: now too. He doesn't have your exact hair, but he's
- 22:19Speaker 1: got a little bit more flows ye too, So he's
- 22:22Speaker 1: got some swags.
- 22:24Speaker 2: We love Josh, we love both. Josh's all right.
- 22:26Speaker 1: To finish this off in this episode, I'm gonna hit
- 22:28Speaker 1: you with a few rapid fire questions. So to start
- 22:40Speaker 1: us off, who is the coolest person you've ever met?
- 22:44Speaker 4: The coolest person I've ever met? You know, I met
- 22:49Speaker 4: Jordan Belfort, the Wolf of Wall Street. That was pretty surreal.
- 22:52Speaker 4: I think also the time I met him, Att, I
- 22:54Speaker 4: was seventeen and I'd just come off like watching the
- 22:56Speaker 4: movie and everything like that.
- 22:57Speaker 3: So to me, that was really surreal.
- 22:59Speaker 1: So I'll go, Okay, who's the most famous contact in
- 23:03Speaker 1: your phone?
- 23:04Speaker 2: I'm sure you've.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Got a lot of them, probably Mark Wahlberg, Mark Wilberg.
- 23:08Speaker 2: What is something you haven't done yet that you want
- 23:11Speaker 2: to do?
- 23:12Speaker 3: Ooh? I mean I think it's probably.
- 23:22Speaker 4: It's stepping more into acting, like it's just getting more
- 23:24Speaker 4: and more involved in acting, Like you know, we have
- 23:27Speaker 4: the comedy sketch show. Just got to do a fun
- 23:29Speaker 4: thing with a twenty four and Nicholas Cage that'll be
- 23:33Speaker 4: coming soon. Gotta do like an animation show. So I
- 23:38Speaker 4: would say, like, yeah, just just diving more into acting.
- 23:40Speaker 4: I'd love to get into like directing a little bit too.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I love that. That's so cool.
- 23:44Speaker 1: What's the best thing you've bought with the money you've
- 23:46Speaker 1: made from content creation?
- 23:49Speaker 3: My dog? Your dog, my dog, no doubt.
- 23:51Speaker 2: What type of dog?
- 23:52Speaker 3: I have? A Siberian Husky. Her name's Buddy.
- 23:54Speaker 4: I know it's kind of strange to call a female
- 23:56Speaker 4: dog buddy.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Some people always get mad at me for it for
- 23:59Speaker 3: some reason, but it works all right.
- 24:01Speaker 2: It just makes sense.
- 24:02Speaker 3: And that's why our names Weddy.
- 24:04Speaker 1: What's one trend you love right now on TikTok One
- 24:08Speaker 1: trend I love?
- 24:11Speaker 2: Maybe a favorite in the last couple of months.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, there's there's this trend that's really easy
- 24:21Speaker 4: and it's kind of just like you and a friend
- 24:23Speaker 4: and you like walk through a door and like a
- 24:24Speaker 4: beat will play and then it's just like the duo
- 24:28Speaker 4: that you know what I mean? It could be like
- 24:29Speaker 4: the short and Tall duo. It could be the whatever
- 24:32Speaker 4: it is.
- 24:32Speaker 3: But yeah, I like that trend. It's just funny.
- 24:34Speaker 2: It's easy for everybody to like. All right, you're from Canada.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I know you're not based in Canada anymore, but can
- 24:40Speaker 1: you tell me why your milk comes in bags?
- 24:43Speaker 3: Ah? You know, we're just cautious about the environment.
- 24:47Speaker 4: It's less littering than those plastic gallon jugs that we
- 24:51Speaker 4: have out here in the States.
- 24:54Speaker 3: So yeah, we're just pro environment like Canada, it's less plastic.
- 24:59Speaker 1: If you had to change career paths right now and
- 25:02Speaker 1: you you could be really good at this new career.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Path, what would be like I would be great at this.
- 25:06Speaker 2: You'd be great at it too?
- 25:08Speaker 3: Oh okay, okay, can it? Can it be a sport
- 25:12Speaker 3: or no?
- 25:12Speaker 2: It could be a sport something different than than what
- 25:15Speaker 2: you do.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Now mmm all right.
- 25:18Speaker 4: I mean my dream was, you know, Canadian always playing
- 25:22Speaker 4: the NHL. Yeah, that was that was a dream. That's
- 25:24Speaker 4: what I thought I was going to be for the
- 25:25Speaker 4: longest time. Obviously it was not good enough at hockey,
- 25:28Speaker 4: so I.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Did social media.
- 25:29Speaker 4: But I think, yeah, I think I think would be
- 25:34Speaker 4: the coolest thing.
- 25:35Speaker 2: That'd be pretty cool.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Well, if you were in NFL player, what position do
- 25:39Speaker 1: you think you play?
- 25:40Speaker 3: Whenever we played at school, I was quarterback, So I'd.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Say quarterback QB.
- 25:45Speaker 1: You like it, you have you have QB energy, You
- 25:46Speaker 1: have that leadership type energy.
- 25:48Speaker 2: I can feel it. I can feel it.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Last question for you, if you had the Bills social
- 25:53Speaker 1: media password for a day, you could make a TikTok
- 25:57Speaker 1: what type of TikTok would you create for for the bill?
- 26:02Speaker 4: No one putting me on the spot man, Yeah, you're
- 26:05Speaker 4: really like trying to make me come up with a
- 26:06Speaker 4: whole concept off the rip.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Hey, you gotta access to the entire team. You gotta
- 26:12Speaker 1: access to some big names. You got to access to
- 26:16Speaker 1: the stadium, the facility.
- 26:18Speaker 4: And it's just it's just like one TikTok Or I
- 26:20Speaker 4: do I have access to like all social media all day.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Let's go with one TikTok.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Okay, I would probably I'd probably get into the writer's
- 26:30Speaker 4: room and write a comedy sketch for the team to do,
- 26:33Speaker 4: like I would want to do, like, yeah, some fun.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Like SML vibe stuff, you know what I mean? So, yeah, that'd.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Would Josh Allen be the main character? Yeah, probably. He's
- 26:47Speaker 1: a funny guy. If you if you get to meet him,
- 26:49Speaker 1: get to spend some time with him.
- 26:51Speaker 4: I've seen stuff he's done on social media, like he
- 26:54Speaker 4: had like he's yeah, he's good at.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Playing like characters too, like he doesn't.
- 26:58Speaker 1: And he's on the commercials now and you can see,
- 27:00Speaker 1: like in the five seconds or the twenty seconds that
- 27:03Speaker 1: you get of him when he's reading those lines, it's like,
- 27:07Speaker 1: you got something here, and you got something here. Well, Josh,
- 27:10Speaker 1: we know you have a lot going for you. Thanks
- 27:12Speaker 1: for telling us about, you know, your rise to stardom,
- 27:15Speaker 1: how you became a TikTok celeb, all the hard work
- 27:18Speaker 1: that goes into it, and you're.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Fandom with DoLS Mafia.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I love seeing like the connections that happen because of
- 27:24Speaker 1: the NFL, because of where you're from, because of social media.
- 27:28Speaker 2: I think it's I think it's so cool.
- 27:30Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you for having me on.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Yeah and enjoyed the game.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Go Bill well do go Bills baby.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I love it. Thanks
