- 0:44Elon Musk podcast. Thank you so much.
- 0:46Elon Musk's X, which is formerly Twitter as we all know, is kind
- 0:51of reverting right now to its foundational elements.
- 0:53According to observations from insiders at Twitter.
- 0:57A project manager from Twitter shows that the efforts to
- 1:01transform X into a significantly different platform have not
- 1:04really materialized yet. It was a Gaber Excel, and it
- 1:08looks like they're sticking with the fundamentals for now.
- 1:10Now, remember when Twitter was just Twitter?
- 1:12It was just a social media app. You posted it on your wall,
- 1:16posted some photos, posted some news with some hashtags, maybe a
- 1:19video, maybe a vertical video if you're feeling saucy.
- 1:23And then other people commented on it, shared it, liked it,
- 1:26things like that. And it seems like this is still
- 1:28the case. It's mainly used as a social
- 1:31media site where you share news, photos, videos.
- 1:34And it also seems like X is playing catch up to a lot of
- 1:37other social media apps, mainly Facebook.
- 1:40Facebook has all the things that Twitter X wants to become except
- 1:45for, except for the banking aspect of it.
- 1:48They do have like a Facebook feature where you can send money
- 1:51back and forth and tip, but they don't have like a bank you can't
- 1:54have. It's not a true sense of the
- 1:56says the word bank, which Elon Musk's want.
- 1:59Elon Musk wants to integrate into Twitter X, so that's where
- 2:03Elon is right now. They're kind of stuck in this
- 2:06holding pattern, catching up with everybody else 1st and then
- 2:09possibly passing them. But one of the other things that
- 2:12they they missed out on is the blue verification checkmarks.
- 2:16Some people that were very relevant and you know,
- 2:19controversial figures or famous people or people with status had
- 2:23blue verification checkmarks just by default because they
- 2:26were influential and people with substantial verified following
- 2:32were very prominent on the platform.
- 2:34So Elon Musk recently reattached high profile users to their
- 2:39checkmarks. This comes after considerable
- 2:42staff reductions as well, including trust and safety team
- 2:45back in 2022. So back then they took away
- 2:48checkmarks. They took away the trust and
- 2:50safety team. They got rid of everybody.
- 2:52They fired hundreds of people from Twitter.
- 2:55Total reorg of the place. Now to enforce or to enhance.
- 2:59Sorry, Platform Safety X is now reportedly establishing a new
- 3:03Content Moderation center in Texas.
- 3:05It has appointed 2 senior executives to lead moderation
- 3:08efforts. Now it looks like possibly X is
- 3:12going to move operations to Texas.
- 3:15This is a shift towards advertiser confidence
- 3:18restoration, which waned a lot after the rise in hate speech on
- 3:22X slash Twitter after Elon took over.
- 3:25Now there's a thing called metaphors.
- 3:27David Camp is part of this, and he sees that these developments
- 3:31as efforts to win back advertisers who departed due to
- 3:34the platform's content management issues.
- 3:36And Musk's initial disregard for conventional business practices
- 3:40aimed at AD revenue stability is seen as contributing to the
- 3:43platform's challenges. Right now, a lot of the
- 3:45advertisers left. I think it was 70.
- 3:47Some odd percent of the high profile advertisers just shut
- 3:52down their accounts, left town, and didn't advertise on X once
- 3:56Elon took over. Now, despite these changes,
- 3:58Musk's erratic communications and controversial statements
- 4:01have continued to impact XS reputation as a reliable
- 4:05advertising partner, according to Camp.
- 4:06Two, it complicates efforts to stabilize the platform's revenue
- 4:10streams. And if somebody's head of a
- 4:12company and they're making controversial statements, it's
- 4:15difficult for advertisers to get behind that platform because
- 4:18they never know what the CEO is going to say.
- 4:21Musk has a wild management style, and public statements
- 4:23have been contentious, and they're often undermining
- 4:26efforts to rehabilitate the platform's image right now.
- 4:28And this has led to a persistent loss of ad revenue, millions and
- 4:32millions and millions of dollars, and challenges in
- 4:35attracting and also retaining the advertisers that they have
- 4:39now, the user base. Some are very loyal oil, but
- 4:41reports indicate a significant decline in X's global user base
- 4:45since Musk took over. Musk himself has acknowledged A
- 4:48substantial drop in advertising revenue under his leadership as
- 4:51well stated that on numerous occasions.
- 4:53And the effectiveness of reinstating traditional
- 4:55verification methods and enhancing content moderation as
- 4:58strategies to regain advertiser trust remains uncertain.
- 5:02We don't know what's going to happen.
- 5:03Elon doesn't know what's going to happen, but maybe there's
- 5:06been meetings behind closed doors of what the advertisers
- 5:09want. Yakarino may have been talking
- 5:12to advertisers, I'm sure she has, about what the advertisers
- 5:15want and how they want to protect themselves from Elon and
- 5:19his rebel ways. Now the platform's reliance on
- 5:23user habituation rather than new feature implementations points
- 5:26to challenges in innovation and user engagement.
- 5:29I mean, what have we really gotten so far since Elon took
- 5:31over, We had to pay for check marks.
- 5:33And you? We have Grok of course, but
- 5:36there's other AI chat bots out there that's already been
- 5:38already been done. Abd if you will.
- 5:40We had higher bitrate video, 4K video, streaming video, which
- 5:45they were working on before. Facebook already has it, YouTube
- 5:48already has it all their social media networks already have this
- 5:51and they already have everything.
- 5:52So there's not much more than Elon has added to this in the
- 5:56time that he's had Twitter. It's been a few years now and he
- 5:59was boasting of an everything app, banking book, an Uber, all
- 6:03the things that you could do, order a pizza, whatever,
- 6:05whatever it is. He wanted this to be the
- 6:07everything app, but it seems like things have just caught up
- 6:11to regular social media sites. Actually, they haven't even
- 6:14caught up yet. Elon integrated monetization
- 6:17with Twitter with X when you live stream or when you post
- 6:21videos was so that was a that was a pretty decent deal.
- 6:24Hasn't really attracted many high profile users to the
- 6:28platform for that yet. But you know, you never know
- 6:31what's going to happen in the next six months with this
- 6:33platform. So we've done some tests on on
- 6:36the platform and we do get some interactions on X with our
- 6:39videos, but nothing like nothing like on our YouTube channel.
- 6:43You can check out our YouTube channel at Space News Pod and
- 6:46also at the Elon Musk Podcast. Now, these comparisons aren't
- 6:50just between social media sites here.
- 6:53That's around Musk and his other ventures too, like the cyber
- 6:57truck. Criticisms of the cyber truck's
- 6:58design and functionality mirror concern concerns about Musk's
- 7:01leadership and its impact on X2. There are a lot of things wrong
- 7:05with the cyber truck when it launched, a lot of things that
- 7:07were promised, never delivered, sort of like full self driving
- 7:10promised, never delivered. It's not fully complete.
- 7:13It's still at a a very, it's in a broad test stages.
- 7:17But when Elon said something like, yeah, we'll have full self
- 7:20driving in two years, that was 10 years ago.
- 7:22So yeah, things that Elon says, he's very optimistic about those
- 7:26things. And there are financial
- 7:27pressures right now on X as well.
- 7:29You know, problematic launches. Tesla stock is actually going
- 7:34down because of the things that Elon says.
- 7:36Right now, challenges are exacerbated by Musk's personal
- 7:40brand, which is increasingly seen as detrimental to business
- 7:43interests on X and at Tesla. And Musk's approach to platform
- 7:47management, particularly his handling of verification changes
- 7:50and content moderation, has sparked controversy among the
- 7:53users. Some high profile individuals
- 7:55have publicly disavowed unsolicited verification badges,
- 7:59emphasizing his disagreement with Musk's policies.
- 8:02Now, the issue of unsolicited verification badges.
- 8:05If you don't ask for one, if you don't buy one and you get one,
- 8:07what? How do you How do you get that?
- 8:09It's up in the air. Nobody really knows.
- 8:10But it's raised questions about Musk's intentions and the
- 8:13criteria for receiving a blue check mark.
- 8:15We played for our check mark because it gives us verification
- 8:17that we're an actual person. The backlash from users who
- 8:20received verification without consent shows that X has ongoing
- 8:23struggles with user trust and engagement.
- 8:25It shows that they don't have a clear path forward and that
- 8:28management doesn't have a clear road map of the exactly what
- 8:31they want to do with certain features.
- 8:33Now, efforts to clarify the verification process and the
- 8:35criteria for premium features have done little to alleviate
- 8:39user concerns, though the confusion surrounding these
- 8:41policies shows that there are challenges in strategies from
- 8:46Elon Musk and the leadership there at X Now Musks latest
- 8:50decision to verify accounts based on subscriber count or
- 8:53premium service subscription has been met with mixed reactions.
- 8:56This approach to verification has been criticized for
- 8:58undermining the original purpose of the blue check mark and also
- 9:01alienating some users. I think Elon doesn't care about
- 9:04alienating users though. I mean, look at some of his
- 9:06posts. He alienates probably half of
- 9:08the platform every time he posts.
- 9:09And legal challenges with Musk includes defamation lawsuits
- 9:13stemming from his social media activity.
- 9:15And this is personal and professional.
- 9:17It's risky, and it could damage X.
- 9:20These issues show that Musk's personal persona and his
- 9:23business ventures sometimes shouldn't intertwine.
- 9:26He likes freedom of speech, though, and he wants X to be the
- 9:30platform of free speech. Now, the case brought against
- 9:33Musk by Ben Brody, which stems from Musk's unfounded
- 9:36allegations on X, shows that legal and reputational hazards
- 9:40of Musk's impulsive social media behavior could be a detriment to
- 9:43the platform. It's part of a broader pattern,
- 9:45controversial actions by Musk that have legal and financial
- 9:49implications. Now, Musk also asserts during a
- 9:52deposition that X is the most accurate, timely and truthful
- 9:55place on the Internet. I don't know if I agree with
- 9:57that. I don't know.
- 9:58Have you seen? I've seen a lot of bots, seen a
- 10:00lot of bots. Those bots are not truthful.
- 10:02There are a lot of people saying a lot of things that are not
- 10:05factually correct. So the way he says it, most
- 10:08accurate, timely and truthful place on the Internet.
- 10:11If the data doesn't back it up, it's not truth.
- 10:13That's all there is to it. I've seen a lot of untruthful
- 10:17people or bots. I'm not sure what they are on
- 10:19Twitter, and I'm not. I'm not here to bash X or
- 10:21Twitter or Elon at all. I'm just telling you what I
- 10:24know. And you know, I'm here to report
- 10:25the I'm here to report for you. That's it.
- 10:28So the dissonance between Musk's statements in a platform's
- 10:30reality shows that X is under a challenge right now.
- 10:33What are the values of X? What are the practices of X?
- 10:37Something may change, and that's OK You're supposed to move fast
- 10:39in tech, move Fast forward, right?
- 10:41Fail forward as they say. So I think Elon's doing good
- 10:44work. I just wish there was a road map
- 10:47that we could all follow to see when things are going to be
- 10:49enhanced and what new things are going to be added.
- 10:52Hey. Thank you so much for listening
