- 0:00Luke chapter 3 let us pray Lord God Almighty, yes, we love you
- 0:14Jesus, we love you. Thank you so much for another
- 0:18day God, we worship you today in spirit and truth.
- 0:22We have come expectantly knowing that you're going to do mighty
- 0:27work in our lives, knowing that this book contains all of the
- 0:33truth that we need for this time, Lord, for this day and for
- 0:37this hour. God, we empty ourselves of
- 0:42ourselves. God, we get out of the way,
- 0:44Father, and we give you the whole space.
- 0:47We give you all of today. We give you our entire lives.
- 0:52God, nothing held back. Lord, we give it all to you, not
- 0:56just some. Lord, we surrender all.
- 1:01And Lord, I pray right now that you will pour out blessings upon
- 1:05blessings and healing power from on high and let it flow, Lord,
- 1:11through us and to our loved ones and to our neighbors.
- 1:15God, let them see you in US. Lord, let us be the light and
- 1:20the salt that you desire for us to be.
- 1:24Lord, we love you, King Jesus. Lord, hide me and hide my words.
- 1:30Hide my thoughts. Lord, let this be all about you.
- 1:34King Jesus, we love you. Thank you, mercy and glory.
- 1:44God, I pray, I pray that you, Lord, will have your will and
- 1:50have your way. Let your Kingdom come here on
- 1:55this earth. Lord, forgive us for our many
- 1:58sins. Lord, we confess and repent.
- 2:01Lord, we have a change of mind, God.
- 2:03And give us the strength, Lord, to rid our lives of anything
- 2:09that's holding us back from experiencing the fullness of
- 2:14what you have for us for this little lifetime.
- 2:17God, I pray we can consecrate the temple.
- 2:21Lord, in the name of Jesus, I pray for the strength to get rid
- 2:25of anything that does not belong.
- 2:27Lord, in the name of Jesus, I pray Holy Spirit, you will
- 2:32highlight what it is that we need to do.
- 2:36Lord, to move into a deeper, more meaningful relationship
- 2:43with you. King Jesus, reveal to us, God
- 2:48the blind spots in our lives. Help us Lord to know what it is
- 2:54that you would desire of us for today, for such a time as this.
- 2:59Lord, let us be found with our hand to the plough, lock eyes,
- 3:04lock step with you, the King of Kings, of the Lord of Lords.
- 3:10Jesus Christ, we love you and this is your holy name that we
- 3:16pray. Amen.
- 3:20Let's start in verse one now, in the 15th year of the reign of
- 3:30Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and
- 3:36Herod being Tetchart of Galilee and his brother Philip, Tetchart
- 3:41of Ituria and of the region of Trachonitus and Lacenaeus the
- 3:49tetrarch of Abilene. These are real people, friends
- 3:53in real places. Friends in history proves that
- 3:56this was a literal time in the blip of humanity.
- 4:03We know that these men were rulers over this literal
- 4:09geographical place on planet Earth and we can trace it back
- 4:14through secular history. What an amazing book that we
- 4:18hold in our hands that it is trustworthy and true and able to
- 4:22be fact checked. And that is the purpose that
- 4:26Luke wants us to know here. He points to a geopolitical time
- 4:32in the history of mankind to show us that this is a reliable
- 4:38source, that he has fact checked everything and he has compiled
- 4:42it for all Theophilus over there to let him know that what he
- 4:47believes is trustworthy and is true and is reliable.
- 4:52And you can build your life upon this book, friends.
- 4:56To Anacin Caiaphas being the high priest, the word of God
- 5:01came unto. John, the son of.
- 5:03Zacharias in the wilderness Sometimes we must get alone,
- 5:08friends. Sometimes we must go and find a
- 5:14place to drown out all of the humdrum of our busy life.
- 5:22We must get to a place where we can get quiet and receive from
- 5:27the Lord and hear. John the Baptist's whole life
- 5:31has been this moment, waiting for this moment of being in the
- 5:35wilderness. And the word of God came to him,
- 5:39and I imagine it was like fire in his bones that he could not
- 5:42shut up. He could not be quiet if he
- 5:46wanted to once this word reached him.
- 5:49And I pray that God gives you a word today to speak over
- 5:54yourself and speak over your loved ones and speak over your
- 5:58neighbors and speak over this wicked and perverse generation.
- 6:03Friends three and he came into all the country about Jordan
- 6:10preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of
- 6:15sins. So here this was John the
- 6:18Baptist whole main ministry. Here it is the baptism.
- 6:24You can notice that he's all around the Jordan.
- 6:29He's going up and down the Jordan and he is crying out.
- 6:36He's a voice in the wilderness crying out.
- 6:38Prepare the way for the Messiah. And he tells him how it is by
- 6:44repenting. And this is not a harsh word.
- 6:48It is a very loving word. And if you woke up this morning,
- 6:52God's giving you another chance, friends.
- 6:55His mercies are new every day, friends.
- 6:57Don't sit and dwell on the past. Today is a new day, friends.
- 7:02Today is the day of salvation, friends.
- 7:04Give your lives to the Lord today, friends.
- 7:08And here John the Baptist is telling them, do not think that
- 7:13because of your lineage to Abraham that you're going to
- 7:17make it there. And here was a common
- 7:21misconception in the Jewish culture is because of their
- 7:26lineage to Abraham, no Jew could ever go to hell.
- 7:29And here John the Baptist is letting them know they must
- 7:33repent of all of their sins and shortcomings.
- 7:36They must come and be baptized and they need to be washed
- 7:44clean. Friends and you and I, we need
- 7:47this as well. We need to confess our sins and
- 7:50to repent and to turn away from all the things that are holding
- 7:54us back from experiencing the love in the fullness of what God
- 7:58has for our lives and experiencing God's completeness
- 8:03in our lives, friends, and kicking all of the things that
- 8:07are holding us back to sinful thoughts and behaviors and
- 8:11actions. Friends, we need to have the
- 8:15strength to get rid of those things and to let the word wash
- 8:20over our minds and hear John the Baptist is coming and he's
- 8:23letting them know to that they need to prepare the way and
- 8:27prepare their hearts and minds for receiving what Jesus Christ
- 8:32is about to do when he arrives on the scene.
- 8:37And this remission of sins, this is a clear conscience, friends.
- 8:42It's not just a one time event, friends, that we go and confess
- 8:48we need Jesus every day. And yes, we can have blessed
- 8:53assurance. Yes, we do not need to doubt our
- 8:57salvation. But we also need to make sure
- 9:02that we take a a long, hard look into the things that we are
- 9:09doing and saying and make sure that they align with this good
- 9:13book. And how would you know if you're
- 9:15not in this good book? And we are not autonomous
- 9:18friends. We cannot operate apart from the
- 9:23Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit whispers to
- 9:26you and the Holy Spirit tells you when you make mistakes.
- 9:30And we need to obey that still small voice that tells us all of
- 9:36the things that do not please the Lord.
- 9:41For as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah, the
- 9:46prophet saying, the voice of one crying in the wilderness,
- 9:51prepare you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
- 9:55And this was the office in the ministry of John the Baptist.
- 9:59And he had known it since he was born.
- 10:01He had known it ever since he was a little boy.
- 10:04I'm sure that Elizabeth and Zechariah shared with him all
- 10:09the magnificent circumstances surrounding his birth, of how
- 10:14they were well stricken in age and how he was called to be a
- 10:18Nazarite and how he was to prepare the way for the Messiah.
- 10:24What an amazing thought. What an amazing time.
- 10:30What an amazing ministry that this man was trusted with.
- 10:36Five Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and
- 10:41hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made
- 10:44straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth.
- 10:49So here you can see that this is prophesied of what is going to
- 10:54happen as Jesus arrives on the scene.
- 10:59He's going to change everything. He's going to do some divine
- 11:05miracles. He's going to make the people's
- 11:10hearts turn towards the Father. And I pray that that is your
- 11:16story. 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
- 11:24If you have seen Christ, you have seen God.
- 11:27They are synonymous, and this salvation of God is only wrought
- 11:33through the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 11:35There is no salvation apart from Jesus Christ.
- 11:39There's no peace apart from Jesus Christ.
- 11:45Seven then said he, to the multitude that came forth to be
- 11:50baptized of him. O generation of Vipers, who has
- 11:54warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
- 11:57He's talking to the Sadducees in the Pharisees, in the Sanhedrin,
- 12:02and the Herodians. He's talking to the religious
- 12:05folk who have made their converts twice, the sons of hell
- 12:09that they are. And he is letting them know that
- 12:14God sees them as a brood of Vipers.
- 12:17And this is not a very welcoming way to get a seat in the
- 12:21synagogue. This is not a very welcoming way
- 12:24to be seen as a true prophet. Look at how John the Baptist, he
- 12:29did not care about what people thought about him.
- 12:32He was about his ministry. He was about the ministry that
- 12:37was given to him from birth. He knew what his purpose was.
- 12:41And I pray friends, that as you navigate through this life, you
- 12:45know why you're here and what God has placed you here for.
- 12:49I pray that you find yourself sharing your salvation story
- 12:54with many and leading many lives to God the Father through a
- 12:58relationship with his Son through the blood of Jesus
- 13:03Christ being shed on Calvary friends.
- 13:09They bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance.
- 13:14And begin not to say within yourselves, we have Abraham to
- 13:18our Father. For I say unto you, that God is
- 13:21able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
- 13:26So here John the Baptist gets right down to it.
- 13:29John the Baptist doesn't mince his words.
- 13:32He holds no punches. He lets them know that all of
- 13:36creation proclaims God's name so that man is without excuse.
- 13:40He lets them know that even the rocks will cry out and worship
- 13:45unto God Almighty. He lets them know that their
- 13:48lineage to Abraham means nothing, that God can raise up
- 13:53descendants for Abraham from the stones.
- 13:56What they need more than anything is to realize that they
- 13:59are lost. They need to realize that they
- 14:03are separated from Yahweh. They are separated from the love
- 14:07that He has for them. And they've made it all about
- 14:10ceremony, and they've made it all about tradition, and they've
- 14:14made it all about greed, and they've made it all about
- 14:18position and power. And they say we have the temple
- 14:21of the Lord, and they say that we have Father Abraham.
- 14:24And it's no different for our day and for our hour.
- 14:28We think because we have the suit and ties.
- 14:30We think because we have the great mausoleums.
- 14:33We think that because we have all of the great buildings and
- 14:38everything, it proves that God is with us and for us.
- 14:41But we need desperately to repent.
- 14:43We need desperately to invite God back into our churches and
- 14:48back into our families and back into our lives.
- 14:52Friends, we need to empty our selves of ourselves and we need
- 14:56to be filled with the Holy Spirit and we need to make sure
- 14:59we haven't grieved the Holy Spirit.
- 15:01We need to make sure we haven't seared our consciences.
- 15:04Friends, I pray that today is the day of salvation for you.
- 15:10I pray that today is the day that you rid yourself of the
- 15:13filth that is holding you back. Friends 9 And now also the axe
- 15:22is laid unto the root of the trees.
- 15:25Every tree, therefore, which does not bring forth good fruit,
- 15:30is cut down and cast into the fire.
- 15:33You need to know that the tree that produces no fruit is the
- 15:37same as the tree that produces bad fruit.
- 15:42They are both cut down and thrown into the fire.
- 15:46What God says that we will know each other because of the good
- 15:52fruit that we produce. It is a natural overflow and
- 15:55it's not human activity. It is the heart of God that is
- 16:00placed within us and cultivated. And the flames are fanned,
- 16:05friends, and the Holy Spirit is welled up within you, and it's
- 16:09full, and it's in His rightful place, and He's acting within
- 16:14your own conscience, and he's acting within your own senses.
- 16:18And it is a natural overflow, friends, when we're connected to
- 16:21the vine, that we will produce much fruit. 10 And the people
- 16:29asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
- 16:3311 And he answered and said unto them, He that has two coats, let
- 16:39him impart to him that has none, and he that has meat, let him do
- 16:44likewise. Very simple things, friends,
- 16:48when you have love for God and love for your neighbors, you
- 16:51cannot just see somebody in the cold.
- 16:54You cannot just see somebody hungry and hold back.
- 17:00There should be a love for God's creation and a love for his
- 17:06people and the love for him. And Jesus modeled for us what it
- 17:10is that we are to do and how to do it and when to do it.
- 17:14Jesus modeled, and we need sanctification.
- 17:17We need to become more like Jesus Christ today than we were
- 17:21yesterday. And Jesus did not leave anything
- 17:25to interpretation. It's not the interpretation,
- 17:28it's obedience, and the love that we have for Jesus Christ
- 17:32causes that obedience. Friends. 12 Then came also
- 17:36publicans to be baptized and said unto him, Master, what
- 17:41shall we do? This was the tax collectors.
- 17:44They were collecting the Roman publica.
- 17:47They were exacting more than they should, because that's how
- 17:51they made a living. And what does John tell them?
- 17:5413 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is
- 17:58appointed you. He's telling them do not be
- 18:01thieves, do not steal the people's money, do not
- 18:07overcharge your brother's. He did not tell them to come out
- 18:13of that office. He told them to make sure that
- 18:18they had integrity. And he tells you the same thing
- 18:21today. No matter what profession you
- 18:23find yourself in, God has placed you there and you have a circle
- 18:27of influence that God desires to reach that only you can reach.
- 18:33But we need to have integrity. If your life looks no different
- 18:38then everyone else's then you have no footing.
- 18:41And that is one of the greatest tactics of our enemy is to try
- 18:45to take your testimony away from you, to destroy your salvation
- 18:52story, to destroy your witness among your Co workers and your
- 18:59family. And they see the duplicity and
- 19:02hypocrisy in your life. You've lost your grounding.
- 19:06You've lost your footing, friends.
- 19:08But today you can repent. Today can be the day that you
- 19:13turn. Today can be when you start
- 19:16gaining some traction. Friends, let today be different,
- 19:21and yesterday I pray that today you can confess and let these
- 19:25words wash over your mind, friends, and repent, Repent of
- 19:30all the things that are holding you back from experiencing the
- 19:33fullness that God has for you. 14 And the soldiers likewise
- 19:40demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do?
- 19:43And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither
- 19:48accused any falsely and be content with your wages.
- 19:54What a loaded verse here. 14 He's telling the soldiers he did
- 20:00not say leave that office. He did not say your office is
- 20:03evil. He's telling them to not be
- 20:08violent towards any man unnecessarily.
- 20:12He's telling them do not accuse people falsely, don't just do it
- 20:17for greedy gain. And he's telling them.
- 20:20To be content with their wages. And he's telling you the same
- 20:24friends, it is not that we need more money.
- 20:28We need more contentment within the arena that we find ourselves
- 20:34in. So many of us Pierce ourselves
- 20:39with so many sorrows because of the love of money, and we do not
- 20:46even need to have money to love money.
- 20:49You can be poor and be obsessive over money and we do not need
- 20:56more money, friends. We need to increase our
- 20:59contentment which will flow the the joy of the Lord into our
- 21:05houses and lives and minds and hearts and emotions.
- 21:09You must make your emotions subject to the truth of God
- 21:15Almighty. You cannot act on every emotion.
- 21:20You cannot be LED astray by the love of money. 15 And as the
- 21:30people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of
- 21:37John, whether he was the Christ or not, so here he had so much
- 21:43power, and the people held him in such high regard, that they
- 21:47wondered, Could this be the Messiah?
- 21:52What does he say? 16 John answered, saying unto
- 21:57all of I, I indeed baptize you with water, but one mightier
- 22:04than I comes in the latchet of whose shoes I'm not worthy to
- 22:08unloose. He shall baptize you with the
- 22:12Holy Ghost and with fire. I pray that you have experienced
- 22:16this baptism of the Holy Ghost. I pray that you are a new
- 22:21creation. I pray that you have the mind of
- 22:24Christ. I pray that you have the
- 22:27strength to perform His will in your life today.
- 22:31I pray that the Holy Spirit is filling you and has filled you.
- 22:36I pray that you are able to discern right and wrong and that
- 22:42you are hearing and receiving from God Almighty.
- 22:47He is baptizing us with the Holy Ghost and with fire and this
- 22:51fire burns out all the dross in our lives, all the things that
- 22:56hold us back. He puts us in the refiners fire
- 22:59and he gets rid of all the impurities and the things that
- 23:03are keeping us from experiencing the fullness that God has for us
- 23:07in this lifetime and the one to come.
- 23:10I pray that you are not one who will stand before God and say we
- 23:14perform miracles and we prophesied in your name and we
- 23:18cast out demons in your name. And he says, depart from me, for
- 23:21I never knew you. It was all just an outward
- 23:24expression. It was all just a bunch of
- 23:27ceremony. It was all just a bunch of
- 23:29tradition. And the miracles do not prove
- 23:32that God is in your life. We need to know that we know
- 23:37that. We know that God is ruling and
- 23:39reigning in our hearts and minds.
- 23:41And you can have that today, friends, it is a day today,
- 23:45today, today, today, today. Surrender.
- 23:49And fresh surrender will produce a fresh filling in your life.
- 23:53Friends, surrender to His will today.
- 23:56Confess all the things that are holding you back today.
- 24:00Have a change of heart and a change of mind today.
- 24:03And let these words wash over your mind.
- 24:09This is the renewal of the mind, friends, that will transform us
- 24:14into the men and women that God so desperately desires to use to
- 24:21reach this wicked and perverse generation. 17 whose fan is in
- 24:29his hand. And he will thoroughly purge his
- 24:32floor and he will gather the wheat into the garner, but the
- 24:36chaff he will burn with fire. Unquenchable.
- 24:41That is what Jesus Christ is good at is He separates the
- 24:44sheep from the goats. He is so good at what he does
- 24:48and he knows who he knows who is producing this fruit that he
- 24:54desires. He knows who belongs to him in
- 25:00this fire that's unquenchable. We know that none of us want to
- 25:08go through the discipline that God puts us through, but it
- 25:13produces the disciples that He's after.
- 25:16And it is this refining fire that God uses in our lives to
- 25:22produce the pure gold and the pure silver and the precious
- 25:30metals that God desires. And He doesn't take you out of
- 25:33that fire until He sees a reflection of Himself in you. 18
- 25:40And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the
- 25:44people. So John was a man who was the
- 25:52forerunner for Jesus Christ. He told them the main reason he
- 25:56was there was for this baptism and for the repentance of their
- 26:04sins and the confession. But he teach many other things.
- 26:1019 But Herod the tete chart being reproved by him for
- 26:14Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils
- 26:19which Herod had done. So we know here that this is a
- 26:24loaded verse, that John told Herod that he was not supposed
- 26:31to take his brother's wife. And this was such a blemish on
- 26:41the life of these leaders. And they were to model for the
- 26:47people what it was that they were supposed to do.
- 26:50And because he had taken his brother's wife, John felt
- 26:55compelled to tell him how wrong it was.
- 26:59And here Herodias was very manipulative and she had her
- 27:05husband lock John the Baptist up. 20 added.
- 27:10Yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.
- 27:15So perhaps Herod had feared that John would amass everyone
- 27:24against him and just to shut him up, he had him locked up.
- 27:29John the Baptist had done nothing wrong.
- 27:31He had spoken the truth. And don't be surprised when you
- 27:35speak the truth if it doesn't get you in trouble with those
- 27:39who are choosing and delighting themselves in evil, and they
- 27:44refuse to love and they refuse to hear the truth, and they
- 27:49don't want to face the music. Friends. 21 Now when all the
- 27:56people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also being
- 28:01baptized and praying, the heaven was open. 22 And the Holy Ghost
- 28:08descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice
- 28:13came from heaven, which said, You are my beloved son, and in
- 28:17you I am well pleased. So we know the baptism of Jesus
- 28:22where John the Baptist told him that he wasn't worthy to do so.
- 28:27And Jesus says it must happen. So he conceded and he did it.
- 28:32And we know that it was not because Jesus had ever sinned or
- 28:36needed any kind of remission for his sins.
- 28:39He was perfect. But he identified with us in
- 28:43this baptism just as much as he identified with us in dying.
- 28:48The death of a criminal on the cross, friends.
- 28:53And look at how the Holy Ghost came down like a dove, just like
- 28:58whenever the tongues came down on the day of Pentecost.
- 29:01This was a sign unto all that Jesus is the Messiah.
- 29:10And this voice thundering from on high and speaking and saying
- 29:16that God was pleased in what Christ was about to do as he's
- 29:21starting his ministry. 23 And Jesus himself began to be about
- 29:2830 years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph.
- 29:36Which was the. Son of Heli so here we're going
- 29:40to get into this genealogy of Mary.
- 29:44We're going to get into the genealogy the the mother of our
- 29:49Lord. We know that back there and
- 29:52Matthew, he gave us a genealogy as well, and he traced the
- 29:58royalty of Christ. And here we're going to see that
- 30:02this is tracing him and and putting him in with the complete
- 30:10line of humanity all the way back to Adam.
- 30:15We know that Matthews goes all the way back to Abraham, but
- 30:24Luke is endeavoring to give us a full, complete genealogy and
- 30:30he's tracing it through humanity as a whole, which shows us that
- 30:34God is not only for the Jews, but he's for the whole world,
- 30:38friends. And here it says which was the
- 30:43son of Eli. So we know that over in Matthew
- 30:48he talks about the son of Jacob, and here it is supposed that
- 30:53this heli was his father-in-law. 24 which was the son of.

- 33:00Which was the son of Elias? Which was the son of Seth?
- 33:04Which was the son of? Adam.
- 33:09Which was the Son of God? So we blew through so many
- 33:13different verses here and passages here, and there's such
- 33:17a rich history here. And isn't it amazing that you
- 33:22and I can trace our lineage all the way back to Adam and Eve and
- 33:27we are all one friends. And that is the purpose here
- 33:31that Luke wanted to show that we are all connected.
- 33:39We all came from Adam and Eve. The entire world was repopulated
- 33:45by Noah, his three sons and their wives.
- 33:50Think about it, friends. We're made in the image of God
- 33:54and God breathed into us and we are his masterpiece.
- 33:58And we would do well to love our neighbors as ourselves.
- 34:02Made in the image of God. And look at how Luke endeavored
- 34:07to show us this genealogy traced from God to Adam all the way to
- 34:16Jesus Christ. And look at how we friends
- 34:22should trust and rely on this genealogy, this good book.
- 34:31It has been speculated that there's some kind of
- 34:33contradiction between this genealogy and Matthews.
- 34:37There is none. If someone says so, they are
- 34:41already hostile towards God. They did not want to believe in
- 34:44the truth. And so we need to know that one
- 34:50has its purposes and this one has its purposes, and they both
- 34:54work together. And it is a beautiful harmonious
- 34:59genealogy. And how Matthew included women
- 35:03in his and here, this is a traditional genealogy of just
- 35:08the males. And how amazing is our God to
- 35:11give us such complexity that we can look and search.
- 35:16We can see that it all adds up in his beautiful tapestry.
- 35:20Friends, I hope you've been blessed by this chapter here and
- 35:24Luke, I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 35:33of you. I love you, so does God.
- 35:40We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 35:42God bless you.
