- 0:26Speaker 1: pretty stoked on. I think you guys are going to
- 0:27Speaker 1: be into it. Check it out if you haven't heard it,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and we're gonna be talking about it more in this

- 1:18Speaker 1: thing we like to call the after party. This is
- 1:21Speaker 1: the show after the show, the party after the party,
- 1:23Speaker 1: the bridge to get you from one full episode of
- 1:25Speaker 1: disgrace Land to the other, the backyard to dig into
- 1:27Speaker 1: the dirt. On this episode, we are talking about our
- 1:30Speaker 1: new Anthony bourdein episode of Disgraceland that is in your
- 1:33Speaker 1: feeds right now. Just ahead of this bonus episode. We
- 1:36Speaker 1: are also talking about the sources that went into the
- 1:38Speaker 1: creation of our Boardeine episode, giving you guys a quick
- 1:41Speaker 1: update on the upcoming subjects and Disgraceland, how we're going
- 1:44Speaker 1: to be choosing them together, and of course your voicemails, texts,
- 1:48Speaker 1: dms and more, and as always, a whole lot of Rosie.
- 1:52Speaker 1: All right, discos, let's get into it, all right. Anthony
- 2:09Speaker 1: Bourdain on the brain this week, understandably thinking a lot
- 2:12Speaker 1: about him, thinking a lot about the episode, thinking a
- 2:14Speaker 1: lot about the themes in this episode, thinking about that
- 2:17Speaker 1: when someone dies, the sense of loss that we have,
- 2:20Speaker 1: it's subjective obviously to the relationship that we have or
- 2:24Speaker 1: had with that person. And in the case of Anthony Bourdain,
- 2:27Speaker 1: most of us had some sort of distant, you know,
- 2:30Speaker 1: creator slash fan type of relationship with the guy. Most
- 2:33Speaker 1: of us didn't know him. I know some of you did.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I did not know him. I have a couple of
- 2:36Speaker 1: friends who met him a few times, one who knew
- 2:39Speaker 1: him a little better than others. But I didn't know
- 2:40Speaker 1: the guy at all. But we felt like we knew him. Okay,
- 2:43Speaker 1: that's clear. Obviously, he gave so much of himself to
- 2:48Speaker 1: his art, to his writing, to the television that he
- 2:51Speaker 1: made so in writing and researching this episode, you know,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I'm thinking about, obviously, at the beginning of this process,
- 2:58Speaker 1: how we lost Anthony Bourdain. But by the end, I
- 3:00Speaker 1: was thinking about a different kind of loss. I was
- 3:02Speaker 1: thinking about what happens when you lose yourself. Okay, that's
- 3:07Speaker 1: the piece of the Anthony Bourdain episode that most struck
- 3:10Speaker 1: me by the time I got done researching it, and
- 3:12Speaker 1: by the time obviously I got done writing it. You
- 3:14Speaker 1: can hear it in the episode. But here's this guy
- 3:16Speaker 1: who built this tremendous identity for lack of a better word,
- 3:20Speaker 1: identity is something we all talk about a lot these days.
- 3:23Speaker 1: It permeates our culture, this idea of who we are,
- 3:26Speaker 1: what we represent, who we align ourselves with, how we
- 3:30Speaker 1: present ourselves, especially in this postmodern era of social media,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and identity is just so part of everything in our
- 3:39Speaker 1: culture right now. And Anthony Bourdain created this tremendous identity
- 3:45Speaker 1: and then he lost it suddenly or he subverted it,
- 3:49Speaker 1: I guess is the better way to put it, almost entirely,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and then he lost his life in the process. Life
- 3:56Speaker 1: as we know is fragile. Okay, most of us are
- 4:00Speaker 1: old enough and experienced enough, unfortunately to understand this. But
- 4:05Speaker 1: this loss that Anthony Bourdain underwent, it got me thinking
- 4:10Speaker 1: about other artists and what it must be like to
- 4:13Speaker 1: be under this intense spotlight when you're a name, when
- 4:17Speaker 1: you have a name, excuse me, and you have this
- 4:19Speaker 1: personality that is recognized all over the world. You know,
- 4:22Speaker 1: it's an identity that is forged and that you you
- 4:25Speaker 1: forge yourself and that you solidify and then it's ripped away.
- 4:29Speaker 1: And we've seen this before in pop stardom, and we're
- 4:33Speaker 1: going to see it again. Frankly, It's just it's just
- 4:35Speaker 1: part of the game, you know. At the moment at
- 4:38Speaker 1: Double Elvis, we're working on a Bob Dylan episode for
- 4:40Speaker 1: you guys, and it gets into this subject. Coincidentally, it
- 4:44Speaker 1: wasn't planned, you know, we weren't trying to like team
- 4:46Speaker 1: this Dylan episode with the Bourdaine episode. But this, this
- 4:50Speaker 1: concept of identity, this theme of identity, is very much
- 4:53Speaker 1: part of the Bob Dylan story. You know, Dylan, as
- 4:55Speaker 1: most of us know, became larger than life, this huge personality.
- 4:58Speaker 1: In the nineteen sixties. He was literally thought of as
- 5:00Speaker 1: a god to some of his fans, which is fucking nuts.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I mean, can you imagine that? You know, I think
- 5:06Speaker 1: the closest thing we have to that now is Taylor
- 5:09Speaker 1: Swift for some reason that you know, I don't understand.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I tried to understand it. We've talked about that. I
- 5:15Speaker 1: don't want to digress. I don't want to shit on
- 5:17Speaker 1: Taylor Swift either. That's not what I'm trying to do.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I have a tremendous amount of respect for what she does.
- 5:23Speaker 1: But you know, if I'm being honest, the cult of
- 5:25Speaker 1: personality that has sprung up around her, it's beyond me.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I don't get it, you know. I guess the last
- 5:32Speaker 1: the last time I recognize something like this in pop
- 5:36Speaker 1: culture was Kurt Cobaine when when when he came about
- 5:40Speaker 1: and there was very clearly a direct line back from
- 5:44Speaker 1: Kurt Cobain to Bob Dylan. I can see that then,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I can see it now. And Kurt obviously struggled with
- 5:50Speaker 1: those with that pressure. Can you imagine can you imagine
- 5:54Speaker 1: that pressure back to the Dylan thing, to people thinking
- 5:57Speaker 1: you're an actual god and you're just some fucking songwriter
- 6:00Speaker 1: or man, you know, or Anti Bourdain's case, you're just
- 6:02Speaker 1: you're just a cook. Really, you're not even really a chef.
- 6:06Speaker 1: You're a cook, you know, and you're a writer, and
- 6:09Speaker 1: you develop this audience and you become this thing. It's uh,
- 6:14Speaker 1: that pressure is is it never never fails to surprise me.
- 6:19Speaker 2: You know.
- 6:19Speaker 1: John Lennon, we talked about John Lennon before. John Lennon
- 6:21Speaker 1: struggled with his identity over and over again throughout his
- 6:24Speaker 1: career and in the end, you know, his turn towards
- 6:28Speaker 1: domesticity and materialism. It's in part what compelled Mark David
- 6:31Speaker 1: Chapman to kill him. Jerry Garcia, Kirk Kobe and who
- 6:34Speaker 1: I mentioned. Their identity is the concept of who they
- 6:36Speaker 1: were and what they meant to people, to their fans.
- 6:39Speaker 1: It forced those guys deeper into addiction and ultimately into
- 6:43Speaker 1: their demise. This you know, this wasn't what did Bordain in.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You know, ultimately it wasn't. It wasn't just addiction that
- 6:51Speaker 1: was part of it. Yes, his addiction played a part
- 6:53Speaker 1: of it, Yes, but ultimately what happened to Boordain is
- 6:56Speaker 1: he went in all in, I should say, on the
- 6:59Speaker 1: wrong time of thing, the wrong kind of romance, and
- 7:02Speaker 1: he lost himself in the process. That loss is hard
- 7:07Speaker 1: for me to understand. Waking up one day and you're
- 7:10Speaker 1: just a different person. You're behaving like a different person,
- 7:13Speaker 1: you're acting like a different person. You're a different person
- 7:15Speaker 1: to your friends, you're a different person to your family.
- 7:18Speaker 1: All that matters is the audience of one who you
- 7:20Speaker 1: are presenting yourself to. And it's just it's hard for
- 7:24Speaker 1: me to understand. And therefore it became a very compelling
- 7:28Speaker 1: thing to research and to write about, and I hope
- 7:30Speaker 1: it came across in the end of the episode. We
- 7:32Speaker 1: get a lot of great feedback, tremendous amount of great
- 7:34Speaker 1: feedback on the new episode on Anthony Bourdin. I encourage you, guys,
- 7:39Speaker 1: if you haven't heard it, to check it out. You
- 7:41Speaker 1: might be thinking, you know why you guys talking about
- 7:43Speaker 1: Anthony Bourdain. He's not a musician, And well, I can
- 7:45Speaker 1: tell you Anthony Bourdin was one of the most rock
- 7:46Speaker 1: and roll figures that I've ever come across. And there's
- 7:50Speaker 1: so much music in this episode. Okay, everyone from Stone
- 7:54Speaker 1: Roses to question Mark and the Mysterians, to the Grateful Dead,
- 7:58Speaker 1: to the Chambers Brothers to Iggy Pop to Queens of
- 8:01Speaker 1: the Stone Age. So many great artists are in this
- 8:05Speaker 1: episode and constitute the makeup of of who Anthony Boardaine
- 8:10Speaker 1: was and what his story was. And you're going to
- 8:12Speaker 1: find this that if you haven't heard this, it's pretty
- 8:14Speaker 1: damn rock and roll. And when you do listen to it,
- 8:17Speaker 1: I want you to hit me up at Disgrace Lam
- 8:19Speaker 1: pod on the Social six one seven nine. I was
- 8:21Speaker 1: six six six three eight voicemail and text and let
- 8:24Speaker 1: me know what you think. All right, Gonna take a
- 8:27Speaker 1: quick break back in a flash talk about some of
- 8:30Speaker 1: the sources, some of the books that I read, in
- 8:34Speaker 1: some of the films and television that I watched in
- 8:36Speaker 1: researching and writing the Anthony Bourdain episode. And I want
- 8:40Speaker 1: to know if you guys have consumed some of this
- 8:42Speaker 1: stuff as well back in the flash. All right, I'm
- 9:06Speaker 1: sure that the books that I read, and the documentaries
- 9:08Speaker 1: that I watched, the television I watched, the films I watched,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I'm guessing that you guys have read or seen most
- 9:15Speaker 1: of these as they pertain to Anthony Bourdain. And you
- 9:18Speaker 1: know that made the research for this episode both fun
- 9:22Speaker 1: and challenging. Fun from the sense of we're all coming
- 9:26Speaker 1: at this from a place of general understanding, general excitement.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You guys know a lot of these stories. You know,
- 9:32Speaker 1: Anthony Bourdain was a great communicator, a great writer. I mean,
- 9:36Speaker 1: you guys. I'm sure you guys when you heard I
- 9:38Speaker 1: was doing the Anthony Bourdain episode, there were a couple
- 9:40Speaker 1: anecdotes that went off in your head where you were like,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I hope it talks about this. You know. Maybe it
- 9:45Speaker 1: was the bride over the barrel scene if you're a
- 9:48Speaker 1: particularly perverted bastard. But I digress. Anyways, this sort of,
- 9:52Speaker 1: you know, well established base of knowledge for Anthony Bourdain
- 9:56Speaker 1: made it challenging to try and find anecdotes to express
- 10:00Speaker 1: Dane's story that felt fresh and that felt new. Not
- 10:04Speaker 1: to mention the fact that the guy has an incredible voice.
- 10:08Speaker 1: This is the first time I've done an episode I
- 10:11Speaker 1: think first time I've done an episode on a on
- 10:12Speaker 1: a writer, and that really put me in a box
- 10:15Speaker 1: and it was like, Okay, how are you gonna how
- 10:17Speaker 1: are you gonna do this? How are you gonna express
- 10:19Speaker 1: this in a way that is unique, that feels fresh.
- 10:23Speaker 1: How are you going to say something that he hasn't
- 10:24Speaker 1: already said about himself? How are you going to say
- 10:26Speaker 1: something about Anthony Bourdin that Anthony Bourdain hasn't already said
- 10:29Speaker 1: about himself. You know, he has those incredible autobiographical books
- 10:34Speaker 1: Kitchen Confidential and Medium Raw. His whole thing was this
- 10:38Speaker 1: subjective journalism where he's constantly putting himself in this situation.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And frankly, that's what I do from a from a
- 10:44Speaker 1: detached point of view, is is I put these characters
- 10:49Speaker 1: in these situations that they've already described or someone has
- 10:52Speaker 1: already described to us that I find in the research,
- 10:54Speaker 1: and it just made it hard to do, very hard
- 10:57Speaker 1: to do when it was Boordain had such an established
- 11:01Speaker 1: voice and aesthetic doing it, So my solution was to
- 11:06Speaker 1: just lean into it. And you can hear me in
- 11:09Speaker 1: this episode trying to speak almost as Anthony Bourdain would
- 11:14Speaker 1: speak in his monologues, and we specifically fucked with the
- 11:19Speaker 1: sound design in the score to make it seem almost
- 11:24Speaker 1: like we were doing like a cover version of a
- 11:26Speaker 1: No Reservations episode at times, to really kind of put
- 11:30Speaker 1: you in like im im, I am speaking in his
- 11:32Speaker 1: voice at the beginning of each block. And that came
- 11:36Speaker 1: from the research. And you read so much, it's like
- 11:39Speaker 1: if you're a guitar player and you're constantly playing a
- 11:41Speaker 1: cdc Risks, You're gonna play guitar like Malcolm Young. You
- 11:44Speaker 1: just are. You know, when you're constantly reading Anthony Bourdain
- 11:48Speaker 1: and then you go to write about him, you're that's
- 11:50Speaker 1: gonna have an effect. And rather than try to just
- 11:52Speaker 1: like you know, push that to the side, I decided
- 11:55Speaker 1: to kind of lean into it. And you can hear that.
- 11:58Speaker 1: And that again came from the research, specifically Kitchen Confidential,
- 12:03Speaker 1: which i'd already read twice before I read it a
- 12:06Speaker 1: third time. And then I went to read his next book,
- 12:08Speaker 1: which i'd never read, Medium Raw, and that had this
- 12:13Speaker 1: a bunch of great anecdotes in it, one of which
- 12:15Speaker 1: is this anecdote that I didn't do because it's already
- 12:19Speaker 1: been done. There's a scene in the beginning of Medium Raw.
- 12:23Speaker 1: This has been done twice, once in Succession and once
- 12:28Speaker 1: in Billions, the television shows, And it's the scene in
- 12:31Speaker 1: the beginning of Medium Raw where Anthony Bourdin is invited
- 12:33Speaker 1: to this super exclusive dinner with a bunch of world
- 12:37Speaker 1: class chefs and they're all seated at a table and
- 12:39Speaker 1: I forget what the dishes. If you guys are chefs
- 12:42Speaker 1: out there, forgive me for not knowing the name of this.
- 12:44Speaker 1: But it's basically this like super indulgent bird and it's like,
- 12:49Speaker 1: you know, it's a tiny bird, and I can't remember
- 12:51Speaker 1: what makes it indulgent, but the idea is you're indulging
- 12:55Speaker 1: so much that you should feel shame, so you place
- 12:57Speaker 1: a napkin over your head when you eat this, this
- 13:00Speaker 1: this appetizer, you know if you will. And it's the
- 13:05Speaker 1: way he sets it up is incredible, so incredible that,
- 13:08Speaker 1: like I said, it's been covered twice before. I don't
- 13:10Speaker 1: I've never I've never read specifically that the creator, the director,
- 13:16Speaker 1: or the writers of Succession or Billions took this bit
- 13:20Speaker 1: from Medium Raw for their television shows. But it just
- 13:24Speaker 1: it's too close to the bone forgive the pun to
- 13:28Speaker 1: not be directly derived. So if anyone knows anything about this,
- 13:32Speaker 1: if you know the scenes I'm talking about in Succession,
- 13:33Speaker 1: it's where the it's where Greg and Tom takes Greg
- 13:37Speaker 1: out to dinner for the first time. It's this hysterical
- 13:39Speaker 1: scene and they do this thing where they put the
- 13:41Speaker 1: napkin over the head and then they you know, they
- 13:43Speaker 1: eat the bird. But Billions did it first back when
- 13:46Speaker 1: I used to watch Billions the first few seasons, and
- 13:49Speaker 1: I don't remember the exact scene. I can't set it
- 13:51Speaker 1: up for you. But if you guys know if that
- 13:53Speaker 1: came from somewhere else in those TV shows, let me know.
- 13:55Speaker 1: But I'm pretty pretty confident it came from that Bordein
- 13:58Speaker 1: book Medium Raw, which is also interest because I don't
- 14:01Speaker 1: know if I said this already, but Medium Raw comes
- 14:03Speaker 1: after Anthony Bourdin has success and becomes famous, which you know,
- 14:08Speaker 1: alters his point of view significantly, and it's tremendous. It's
- 14:12Speaker 1: just great. The other two books I read were the
- 14:15Speaker 1: Charles Leerson Down and Out in Paradise, which is an
- 14:20Speaker 1: unauthorized biography, and for an unauthorized biography, he gets some
- 14:24Speaker 1: pretty good access and this book I highly recommend it,
- 14:31Speaker 1: but I'm also gonna recommend it with a caveat because
- 14:34Speaker 1: there's a lot in this book that annoys the shit
- 14:36Speaker 1: out of me. And I'll get to the annoying part
- 14:39Speaker 1: first and then I'll get to the great part second.
- 14:41Speaker 1: The annoying part is, I don't know, man, I feel
- 14:43Speaker 1: like the writer just takes these unnecessary potshots at Bourdein
- 14:50Speaker 1: in a judgy way, not in a and look, you
- 14:54Speaker 1: know I do this all the time, so I'm guilty
- 14:55Speaker 1: of the same thing, you know. But something about it
- 14:58Speaker 1: just rubbed me the wrong way. In this book, However,
- 15:02Speaker 1: when the book starts, the first few pages, the first
- 15:05Speaker 1: two or three pages are so fucking compelling and written
- 15:09Speaker 1: so well, and it is such a cheeky headfake that
- 15:13Speaker 1: I was reeling after I read it, and I was
- 15:16Speaker 1: pissed that I didn't think to do this. Pissed, I
- 15:19Speaker 1: almost wrote the guy a letter telling him how much
- 15:20Speaker 1: I liked it. I didn't, though, so I guess this
- 15:22Speaker 1: is the letter Charles Learson, Down and Out in Paradise,
- 15:25Speaker 1: great way to open a book. The other book I
- 15:27Speaker 1: read was Bordained, The Definitive Oral biography by Laurie will Lever,
- 15:32Speaker 1: which forgive me from pronouncing her name incorrectly, but Laurie
- 15:36Speaker 1: was she worked very closely with Anthony Bourdain and she
- 15:39Speaker 1: put this book together which is an oral history of
- 15:42Speaker 1: Tony from the guys and girls who knew him and
- 15:45Speaker 1: came up with him and worked with him both and
- 15:48Speaker 1: knew him both before success and after success. And it's
- 15:51Speaker 1: really fascinating, particularly the folks who don't hold back, David Chang,
- 15:57Speaker 1: Josh Hammie, There's a lot of a lot of people
- 16:01Speaker 1: in here who you know, the loss of of Tony
- 16:04Speaker 1: is raw, and they all have a different perspective on it,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and it really helped form my point of view along
- 16:11Speaker 1: with my own my own history with loss, particularly with
- 16:15Speaker 1: suicide from people I know, people I love, friends, family,
- 16:20Speaker 1: et cetera. I found this book to be touching in
- 16:23Speaker 1: a in a number of different ways, and if you're
- 16:25Speaker 1: a fan of Anthony Bordaina, highly recommend it. TV shows obviously,
- 16:29Speaker 1: you know, No Reservations and then Parts Unknown, of course
- 16:33Speaker 1: I've watched every episode of every single one, the Iggy
- 16:36Speaker 1: Pop one from the CNN. Parts Unknown obviously had had
- 16:41Speaker 1: a big hand in framing this episode road Runner is
- 16:46Speaker 1: just a tremendous documentary, which you know most of you
- 16:49Speaker 1: have seen that. I'm sure. I just wanted to give
- 16:52Speaker 1: a particular shout out to the last episode of of
- 16:57Speaker 1: Parts Unknown that the zero point zero folks put together
- 17:01Speaker 1: after Anthony Bourdin had died. It is tremendous and it's
- 17:07Speaker 1: one of those things that where obviously this episode wouldn't
- 17:10Speaker 1: exist the way it exists had Anthony Bourdeen not died.
- 17:15Speaker 1: But my goodness, what they put together, the editing, the
- 17:19Speaker 1: sound design in particular, it's just incredible. It's all about
- 17:22Speaker 1: Lower East Side Manhattan, and you can really feel it.
- 17:25Speaker 1: You can really feel that neighborhood in that episode, both
- 17:30Speaker 1: that neighborhood's past present as well. It's a stunning piece
- 17:34Speaker 1: of television. And of course I talked about New Roe's Hotel,
- 17:37Speaker 1: the Aggie Argento film with Willem the Foe and Christopher
- 17:41Speaker 1: Walking last week. I believe in the last episode of
- 17:45Speaker 1: After Party, watched the watch that a number of times.
- 17:48Speaker 1: It's just sort of just sort of had it on
- 17:50Speaker 1: the background without even listening to it when I was
- 17:52Speaker 1: writing and researching. You can check that out, all right.
- 17:56Speaker 1: So those are the sources. I'll talk more about this
- 17:59Speaker 1: stuff on inta gram and elsewhere. If you guys have
- 18:02Speaker 1: other Anthony Bourdain resources, movies, films, television.
- 18:08Speaker 3: What have you?
- 18:09Speaker 1: One thing you know and one thing I knew but
- 18:11Speaker 1: forgot about and then and then found out again? Was it?
- 18:14Speaker 1: Boordeen was a consultant on that show, that David Simon's
- 18:18Speaker 1: show Tremae, which was an HBO show, David Simon from
- 18:23Speaker 1: the Wire, which I just can't believe he had that
- 18:27Speaker 1: going on as well in the height of his fame. Anyways,
- 18:30Speaker 1: getting off topic, let me know your favorite Bourdain books,
- 18:35Speaker 1: TV shows, et cetera, and what you thought of the
- 18:36Speaker 1: episode six one seven nine oh six six six three
- 18:39Speaker 1: eight ats Grace laand Pod on the socials. I'm gonna
- 18:41Speaker 1: take a quick break, come back on the other side
- 18:43Speaker 1: with an update on the subjects for the next round
- 18:45Speaker 1: of disgrace Land episodes. And I'm going to take some
- 18:47Speaker 1: of your calls, of course, your text and your dms.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Andy Warhol, Hunter S Thompson, Peter Tosh, Steve McQueen, Van Hanlan,
- 19:09Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant, Bascat. Those are the next episodes of Disgraceland
- 19:13Speaker 1: coming down the Fike in the coming weeks for you, guys.
- 19:15Speaker 1: It's obvious to me that you guys having a say,
- 19:18Speaker 1: having your voice heard and the choosing of what episodes
- 19:20Speaker 1: we cover is incredibly important to you. Of all the
- 19:23Speaker 1: subjects that I hear from you guys on this is
- 19:26Speaker 1: the one that you speak up about the most constantly, unsolicited,
- 19:30Speaker 1: and I love it, so keep it coming. But now
- 19:32Speaker 1: that we're including other artists, not just musicians in the
- 19:35Speaker 1: world of Disgrace Land, it's more important than ever that
- 19:37Speaker 1: you guys speak up. You let me know what subjects
- 19:39Speaker 1: you want us to cover. There's so many of them
- 19:42Speaker 1: out there. I don't want to be just doing this
- 19:44Speaker 1: in a vacuum. Okay, So to that point, we've got
- 19:47Speaker 1: a handful of episodes already produced, another handful already in production,
- 19:50Speaker 1: and a third handful, if that's possible, that we've identified
- 19:53Speaker 1: internally here at Double Elvis, that we want to produce.
- 19:56Speaker 1: All this amounts to having about half the programming for
- 19:59Speaker 1: this year already planned out. But we need to select
- 20:01Speaker 1: the episodes for the second half of this year, guys,
- 20:04Speaker 1: and I'm gonna be leaning on you to help me
- 20:06Speaker 1: do that. How exactly I don't know yet. We're gonna
- 20:10Speaker 1: figure that out together in the coming weeks here in
- 20:12Speaker 1: the After Party and on Socials, but we're thinking about
- 20:16Speaker 1: you know here at Double Elvis, we're thinking about it.
- 20:19Speaker 1: We're trying to figure it out. We're gonna have more
- 20:20Speaker 1: news here in the coming episodes of After Party and
- 20:22Speaker 1: these bonus episodes to help us figure this out, figure
- 20:25Speaker 1: out which episodes we're gonna be producing for the second
- 20:28Speaker 1: half of this year. I don't know what this is
- 20:31Speaker 1: going to be exactly. I see it as some sort
- 20:32Speaker 1: of election process, maybe maybe like a final four bracket process,
- 20:37Speaker 1: wherein you guys are heavily involved in not just suggesting episodes,
- 20:41Speaker 1: but voting them up and down, perhaps lobbying each other
- 20:44Speaker 1: to vote for the subjects that you want, and getting
- 20:47Speaker 1: to some sort of consensus to help us choose our
- 20:49Speaker 1: programming slate. More on this, Like I said later, All right, guys,
- 20:54Speaker 1: we talked about this last week, we talked about it
- 20:56Speaker 1: on social I'm talking about it again right now. You

- 21:17Speaker 1: be anything. It can be a story of you proposing
- 21:19Speaker 1: to your wife. It can be a story of I
- 21:22Speaker 1: don't know that time you accomplished that thing that you
- 21:24Speaker 1: were really trying to do. Maybe you got into law school,

- 25:03Speaker 2: It was awesome home run. You you really knocked out
- 25:07Speaker 2: of the park with that one.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I can really relate to Anthony Bourdain because we're both
- 25:11Speaker 3: the same age, we both grew up in Jersey, both
- 25:15Speaker 3: had the same you know, sense of humor and stuff
- 25:17Speaker 3: like that. Used to love his shows, read all his books,
- 25:20Speaker 3: and was really devastated when he killed himself.
- 25:25Speaker 2: We've all been down that road one way or another.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Maybe not that far, especially in relationships, and I can
- 25:30Speaker 3: relate to that.
- 25:31Speaker 2: So I never went that far. But anyway, good job,
- 25:34Speaker 2: kudos and keep up the good works. Look forward to

- 26:14Speaker 1: this is Melissa from the two o three Thank you
- 26:16Speaker 1: for the rewind episode on run DMC. I loved listening
- 26:19Speaker 1: to it again. And here's a photo of me and
- 26:21Speaker 1: Darryl McDaniels, who's doing a signing at one of the
- 26:23Speaker 1: malls near me. He was really nice. Rock a Roller
- 26:26Speaker 1: that's from the two o three two oh three I've
- 26:27Speaker 1: had the I've had the pleasure of meeting Daryl once before,
- 26:31Speaker 1: not really meeting him. I was standing side stage and uh,
- 26:34Speaker 1: he just walked in, gave me a fist pump, jumped
- 26:36Speaker 1: on stage, and proceeded to kick ass. It was very fun.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Five point eight rights and hey Jake, loved the Boordine episode.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Met him once after one of his speaking gigs in Kingston,
- 26:46Speaker 1: New York. He was very gracious. Also for your top
- 26:48Speaker 1: ten books and docs. I think you missed out on
- 26:51Speaker 1: cash and the kids are all right. I might also
- 26:53Speaker 1: throw the Filth and the Fury in there. Too, still
- 26:55Speaker 1: great LISTA. Yeah, you're right, I did miss out. I've
- 26:58Speaker 1: read all those and they're incredible. He's only ten. It's hard.
- 27:03Speaker 1: It's hard to come up with the top ten. That's
- 27:05Speaker 1: why they're so compelling. All right, six one seven nine

- 27:10Speaker 1: me up, guys on whatever you want to talk about.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm here for it. You can also email me Disgrace
- 27:16Speaker 1: lampod at gmail dot com to send us an email,
- 27:19Speaker 1: just like Jason hass here subject Boordain episode another great
- 27:25Speaker 1: story told message, Dear Jake and company. I just finished
- 27:27Speaker 1: listening to the newest Disgraceland about Anthony BOURDAINA when word
- 27:30Speaker 1: came out that Bordain had taken his own life. I
- 27:32Speaker 1: felt a little heartbroken and some real grief for this guy,
- 27:35Speaker 1: this perfect stranger who seems to be an embodiment of
- 27:37Speaker 1: many excellent qualities that you mentioned, empathy, connection, understanding. Even today,
- 27:42Speaker 1: when I find TV shows that have him making a
- 27:44Speaker 1: guest appearance, I feel a little stabbed in my heart,
- 27:47Speaker 1: and I'm grateful to see him still alive. I've always
- 27:50Speaker 1: had a little obsession with him, I guess, and how
- 27:52Speaker 1: it felt to lose this person whom I thought of
- 27:54Speaker 1: as a great anti hero role model. I think this
- 27:56Speaker 1: episode has helped me fill in some holes in Boordain's story.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I thought you trade him in very realistic tones, laden
- 28:01Speaker 1: with your signature effects and style of dark humor, grit, grime,
- 28:05Speaker 1: facing ugly truth, also pointing out the human side of
- 28:08Speaker 1: your subjects. It was a fitting tribute to our long
- 28:11Speaker 1: lost anti hero Anthony Bourdain. I am grateful for that.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Thanks very much, Jason and Milwaukee, Jason, thanks to the message.
- 28:18Speaker 1: That's you know, it makes me happy because that's what
- 28:20Speaker 1: I try to do. I try to give a complete picture,
- 28:22Speaker 1: or at least a holistic picture, if not complete. And
- 28:27Speaker 1: you know, I don't know if I'm directly inspired by
- 28:29Speaker 1: Anthony Bourdain, but I strive for empathy as well in
- 28:31Speaker 1: my own way and happy to hear that that came across.
- 28:35Speaker 1: So thank you, guys. Disgrace Sampod at gmail dot com.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Send me an email on anything you want to talk about.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I'm gona take a quick break, be back in a flash,
