- 1:58Speaker 3: spend some time target yuh one. In one segment, something
- 2:01Speaker 3: actually happens much north of here. It's the annual West
- 2:04Speaker 3: Virginia Italian Heritage Festival, and there's a lot of people
- 2:09Speaker 3: from this year that like to go up there, so
- 2:10Speaker 3: we're going to talk about that a little bit. Plus,

- 2:21Speaker 3: Last man standing there appears to be Berry Holstein from

- 2:36Speaker 3: We've got a big events going on here in Charleston
- 2:38Speaker 3: one week from this Wednesday at the bill No Flight
- 2:41Speaker 3: School at West Virginia International Yeager Airport, at the annual
- 2:44Speaker 3: Paint the Capital City green Evet sponsored by Baltwood at
- 2:47Speaker 3: Robert Stone Street is with the Marshall Quarterback Club, but
- 2:50Speaker 3: Charlestony joins us now Robert Good morning. Welcome to the show.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Thank you, Dave, good morning.
- 2:54Speaker 3: You survived the Steve Annimal experience on our sister station
- 2:57Speaker 3: ninety eighty seven the Mountain.
- 2:58Speaker 5: So did he was? He was relatively time to me.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Well, he must have brought him something. So how many
- 3:04Speaker 3: years this thing been going on?
- 3:05Speaker 5: Well, the event's been going on for many years, probably
- 3:09Speaker 5: more than fifteen. This is our fourth year up at
- 3:11Speaker 5: the flight.
- 3:12Speaker 3: School, though, and I think it was helped Embassy suites
- 3:15Speaker 3: at one point and maybe other places talk about habit
- 3:19Speaker 3: up at the at the flight school, at the actual
- 3:21Speaker 3: flight school in the hangar. I mean, that's pretty it's
- 3:23Speaker 3: a pretty cool venue.
- 3:24Speaker 5: It is a very cool venue. You're up there and
- 3:27Speaker 5: see the tarmac, see the planes up in the big hangar,
- 3:31Speaker 5: lots of marshall things on the wall. It's a really neat,
- 3:35Speaker 5: neat spot. And we started doing that during COVID, back
- 3:38Speaker 5: when everybody may remember social distancing, so we were trying
- 3:41Speaker 5: to get a somewhat outdoor venue and it was such
- 3:44Speaker 5: a hit. We've gone back every year since then.
- 3:47Speaker 3: And I love habited up there. I mean because it's
- 3:50Speaker 3: such a unique with the first time I attended one
- 3:52Speaker 3: of the which is probably the first year that it
- 3:54Speaker 3: was up there, I thought this is going to be
- 3:55Speaker 3: a little bit weird having this event inside an airplane hangar,
- 3:58Speaker 3: but it actually works out really really well because, especially
- 4:02Speaker 3: if it's a nice night, you can open the doors
- 4:06Speaker 3: and get a little breeze blowing in. And plus it's
- 4:08Speaker 3: really good advertisement for the bill No Flight School as well,
- 4:12Speaker 3: which is just a real gem here in West Virginia.
- 4:14Speaker 5: It is, and they'll usually have one of the Marshall
- 4:17Speaker 5: planes sitting out there on the outside the hangar, and
- 4:21Speaker 5: one year, Coach Tough actually flew in on the Marshall
- 4:24Speaker 5: plane to come and speak at the event.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Now, for those who don't know what exactly goes on
- 4:30Speaker 3: at these events, I mean this as you said, it's
- 4:32Speaker 3: been going on for at least fifteen years up to
- 4:34Speaker 3: bill No Flight School. For the last four or so,
- 4:36Speaker 3: it's just a big party to celebrate the Thundering Herd, food,
- 4:39Speaker 3: auction items, cheerleaders bands. I mean, it's just a big
- 4:42Speaker 3: old party.
- 4:42Speaker 5: Historically it's been a kickoff for football season. In recent
- 4:45Speaker 5: years it's started to morph into more of a celebration
- 4:48Speaker 5: of fall sports at Marshall. This year we've got a
- 4:50Speaker 5: panel of coaches. We have a cross country coach, Caleb Bowen,
- 4:54Speaker 5: who may not be a household name, but if you're
- 4:57Speaker 5: an ultrarunner, he just ran the Western States on hundred
- 5:00Speaker 5: trail race out in California and that's considered the super
- 5:04Speaker 5: Bowl of ultra running and he finished in the top
- 5:06Speaker 5: twenty five, so he's excellent coach there. We've got both
- 5:10Speaker 5: new basketball coaches, Corney Jackson for the men, Julie Fulks
- 5:13Speaker 5: for the women, and then of course the football head coach,
- 5:16Speaker 5: Charles Huff will be there.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's going to be an interesting season, I
- 5:20Speaker 3: think for the Thundering Heard football team.
- 5:22Speaker 5: It is. We've got two huge early season away games.
- 5:27Speaker 5: We've got going to Blacksburg play Virginia Tech, and then
- 5:30Speaker 5: there's some team in Columbus that we're going to just
- 5:33Speaker 5: gonna go up and see some.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Team in a horseshoe up in Columbus. And then we're
- 5:37Speaker 3: talking with Robert stone Street from the Marshall University Quarterback
- 5:40Speaker 3: Club at Charleston about the Paint the Capital City Green
- 5:42Speaker 3: event presented by Ball Toyota. It's happening one week from
- 5:45Speaker 3: this Wednesday up at Billido Flight School at West Virginia
- 5:48Speaker 3: International Yeager Airport. And one of the things I think too,
- 5:51Speaker 3: I like about habit up there, Robert. It's not such
- 5:53Speaker 3: a formal type setting. I mean again, you don't need
- 5:56Speaker 3: to dress up. I mean, just wear your Marshall gear
- 5:59Speaker 3: enjoy a what turns out to be a tailgate party.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Yeah, it's very tailgate themed, where your Marshal gear. The
- 6:06Speaker 5: event is catered by James Beard Award winning chef Paul
- 6:10Speaker 5: Smith at ten ten Bridge. So there's very good, very
- 6:13Speaker 5: good food. There'll be some craft beer there. Fife Street
- 6:16Speaker 5: Brewing is one of our sponsors, so we'll have some
- 6:18Speaker 5: local beer. It's just a really great time.
- 6:21Speaker 3: It is indeed, and of course myself and Steve Animal,
- 6:23Speaker 3: as I mentioned the aforementioned Steve Animal from nine eight
- 6:26Speaker 3: seven the mouth that we'll be serving as the MC.
- 6:28Speaker 3: So that ought to tell you right there that it's
- 6:30Speaker 3: not a very serious event.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Right well, I'll leave it at that.
- 6:36Speaker 3: You turn it over to me an Animal, I mean,
- 6:38Speaker 3: how serious could the thing be? And where can people
- 6:40Speaker 3: get tickets?
- 6:41Speaker 5: You can go to Marshall Biggreen dot org to register.
- 6:45Speaker 5: We have options. You can buy individual tickets for fifty
- 6:48Speaker 5: dollars if you want to sponsor a table for ten,
- 6:52Speaker 5: Those start at eleven hundred dollars for a white sponsor,
- 6:55Speaker 5: and then a Green sponsor's twenty six hundred dollars. Comes
- 6:58Speaker 5: with some other perks that you can find out about
- 7:00Speaker 5: at the Marshall Biggreen dot org website.
- 7:04Speaker 3: But Ave Island showing five abe line bright to you

- 7:17Speaker 3: and industrial type settings. Is a Pinnacle Corp. Dot net
- 7:20Speaker 3: Because what you don't know can't hurt you. And where
- 7:21Speaker 3: does the money raised? Where does it go to?
- 7:23Speaker 5: All the way he raised benefits the Big Green Scholarship
- 7:27Speaker 5: Foundation which supports all of the different Marshall Athletic programs.
- 7:32Speaker 3: And the college Landscape. I had Tony Caridi on a
- 7:35Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago previewing the Inside the Huddle event
- 7:38Speaker 3: which was just held recently over here, speaking of Baltoyota.
- 7:41Speaker 3: It was in the Baltoyota Event Center, Patrick Street. The
- 7:45Speaker 3: landscape of college Athletics, Robert, and you've been around this
- 7:48Speaker 3: for a long time have changed so so much, and
- 7:51Speaker 3: Marshall was not immune to that.
- 7:52Speaker 5: No, we're not. And one of us speakers will have
- 7:55Speaker 5: at Panther Capital is Stevie Browning, who is heading up
- 7:58Speaker 5: the Thunder Trust. He's involved in the NIL business. But
- 8:03Speaker 5: you're right, things are a lot different nowadays.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Well and people and again Tony and I talked about
- 8:08Speaker 3: this a couple of weeks ago. I mean, people can
- 8:10Speaker 3: talk about the NIL all they want to, but the
- 8:12Speaker 3: bottom line is it ain't going anywhere, and it's changed
- 8:15Speaker 3: college the athletics. And we've seen, as Tony and I
- 8:19Speaker 3: talked about, we've seen more changes in the world of
- 8:22Speaker 3: college sports in the last two to three years than
- 8:25Speaker 3: probably in the previous fifty.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Probably true money. Money makes a big difference, and you're
- 8:31Speaker 5: right it's only going to get more of an issue
- 8:35Speaker 5: as we go forward.
- 8:36Speaker 3: How do you feel about the Sun Belt Conference as
- 8:38Speaker 3: a Marshall fan?
- 8:38Speaker 5: I like the Sun Belt Conference. This is hard to believe.
- 8:41Speaker 5: It's our third season now in the Sun Belt and
- 8:44Speaker 5: we've got some really good teams there, obviously Marshall, and
- 8:48Speaker 5: then you've got the other Mountaineers Appalachian State. They're coming
- 8:51Speaker 5: to the jone this year and then JMU James Madison
- 8:54Speaker 5: University I think was in cracked the top twenty five
- 8:57Speaker 5: last year.
- 8:57Speaker 3: And I like the rivalries that we have this conference too.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I mean we had we had some good rivalries. I
- 9:02Speaker 3: was there during the Southern Conference days and we had
- 9:04Speaker 3: some good rivalries there. We also had some good rivalries
- 9:07Speaker 3: in the MAC. But to be honest, other than one
- 9:10Speaker 3: or two schools, it was kind of hard to get
- 9:12Speaker 3: fired up about Tulane, you know, some of the and
- 9:15Speaker 3: I'm just using that as example, some of the some
- 9:17Speaker 3: of the UTEP or some of these schools that were
- 9:19Speaker 3: so far away. At least there is a little bit
- 9:22Speaker 3: of regionality in this conference.
- 9:24Speaker 5: Yes, there there is, and I think it's a really
- 9:27Speaker 5: good move for Marshall. And if you just look at
- 9:29Speaker 5: where Conference USA is today, that'll tell you as well.
- 9:32Speaker 5: We made a very good decision.
- 9:34Speaker 3: All right, give us all the details again.
- 9:36Speaker 5: So the event is Wednesday, August twenty first doors open
- 9:41Speaker 5: at six o'clock, the program will start around six thirty
- 9:44Speaker 5: six forty five ish. Tickets are available at marshall Big
- 9:49Speaker 5: Green dot org, where you can call the Big Green
- 9:52Speaker 5: three oh four six nine six four six six one.
- 9:55Speaker 5: Individual tickets fifty bucks and table sponsors started at eleven
- 9:58Speaker 5: hundred dollars and.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Again plum of free food, plenty of drink. The cheerleaders
- 10:03Speaker 3: are there, the Marshall supporters, the coaches are all going
- 10:05Speaker 3: to be there, looking forward to there, looking forward to
- 10:07Speaker 3: seeing and and it's really a great event too because
- 10:10Speaker 3: Marshall University has got such a huge footprint Robert here
- 10:14Speaker 3: in the Charleston area and this event, if it doesn't
- 10:17Speaker 3: sell out, it usually comes pretty.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Close, it does. I think we did sell out last
- 10:21Speaker 5: year and we're getting close this year. So get your tickets.
- 10:24Speaker 3: What does a sellout? What number we're looking at Approxmate
- 10:26Speaker 3: thousand or.
- 10:26Speaker 5: So, probably not that many.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Just like the documentary three hundred, three hundred, four hundred. Well,
- 10:31Speaker 3: we have certain rules up there with THEE and we
- 10:34Speaker 3: also found out that you cannot take the planes out
- 10:36Speaker 3: for a spin. I can't tell you why. Yeah, they
- 10:39Speaker 3: found up on that animal. If you're listening, we cannot
- 10:41Speaker 3: take the planes out. So all right, man, I appreciate
- 10:44Speaker 3: you being here. Agains, Steve and I are going to

- 13:57Speaker 3: Chaaring Delicate Mike Pushkin on the show tomorrow, Plus Hurricane
- 14:00Speaker 3: Mayor Scott Edwards is going to join us tomorrow. There's
- 14:02Speaker 3: been a lot in the news about some plans that
- 14:05Speaker 3: AEP has to put some transmission lines and it's going
- 14:08Speaker 3: to run right through what is the Meek's Trail system
- 14:13Speaker 3: in the Hurricane area, and it's a very popular thing.
- 14:16Speaker 3: A lot of folks in the community are upset about it,
- 14:18Speaker 3: a lot of business people because of the economic impact
- 14:21Speaker 3: that the Meek's Mountain Trails has in that area. Hurricane
- 14:24Speaker 3: Mayor Scott Edwards is one of those, and he's going
- 14:25Speaker 3: to join us on the show to talk about it tomorrow.
- 14:29Speaker 3: The story the story has been all over the news
- 14:31Speaker 3: for some time here the situation of vombingy the Tyler
- 14:34Speaker 3: Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters have resigned some board members too.
- 14:37Speaker 3: In fact, I guess the last man standing is board
- 14:40Speaker 3: member Barry Holsteed. He joins us now into par Mars
- 14:43Speaker 3: Store studio. Barry, good morning, welcome to the show, Good
- 14:45Speaker 3: morning day, Thank you for being here. So what exactly
- 14:47Speaker 3: cost all this? Take us back to the very beginning.
- 14:51Speaker 3: What's the issue here?
- 14:52Speaker 4: So, to my knowledge, the way I understand it, a
- 14:55Speaker 4: couple of months ago, some of the firefighters maybe had
- 14:59Speaker 4: some agreements with the board. There was some some internal strife,
- 15:05Speaker 4: if you will, that was going on, and I think
- 15:07Speaker 4: it's been bubbling for a little bit. I've been on
- 15:09Speaker 4: the outside. I was not on the board previous, had
- 15:13Speaker 4: little interaction frankly, with the fire department other than you know,
- 15:18Speaker 4: through some with another nonprofit in the community. I had
- 15:21Speaker 4: worked with the fire department in the past to do
- 15:23Speaker 4: some community work, but I really wasn't that engaged until
- 15:29Speaker 4: I started getting some phone calls from concerned community members
- 15:35Speaker 4: talking about the fire department and maybe there was some
- 15:38Speaker 4: internal strife going on.
- 15:40Speaker 3: So when you say internal strife, Barry, what were I
- 15:43Speaker 3: know you weren't part of the board, sure, but what
- 15:44Speaker 3: have you heard? What were some of the issues that
- 15:46Speaker 3: were being discussed there?
- 15:47Speaker 4: So I've heard. I've heard things from perhaps inappropriate use
- 15:53Speaker 4: of funding, other mismanagement kind of things going on firefighter,
- 16:00Speaker 4: perhaps even violating some safety rules, that kind of thing.
- 16:06Speaker 4: So I've heard a lot. And when it came time
- 16:10Speaker 4: at the point with which the firefighters decided enough's enough
- 16:16Speaker 4: and they felt strong enough about their their their situation
- 16:21Speaker 4: to walk off, then I knew was that to me
- 16:25Speaker 4: was this It had been bubbling up apparently, and that
- 16:28Speaker 4: was the point of Okay, enough's enough and things are
- 16:31Speaker 4: going to change. So when they walked off suddenly, you know,
- 16:35Speaker 4: as an interested community member, I've been in Cross Lanes
- 16:39Speaker 4: now for thirty years, I wanted to step in and
- 16:42Speaker 4: see if I could be of any assistance, see if
- 16:44Speaker 4: I can help it, or at least understand what was
- 16:47Speaker 4: going on, because that doesn't happen every day. It doesn't
- 16:49Speaker 4: happen that suddenly half the firefighter and how.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Many numbers will you say half? I mean approximately how
- 16:54Speaker 3: many is that?
- 16:55Speaker 4: So currently we're at the last count, we're actually up
- 16:59Speaker 4: to twenty one firefighters. So when we talk about ten,
- 17:02Speaker 4: we were talking about half the firefighters on the squad
- 17:06Speaker 4: there in Tyler Mountain or in Cross Lanes. So when
- 17:10Speaker 4: that happened. Obviously, that's that's an indication that something significance
- 17:14Speaker 4: going on. I showed up just like one hundred other
- 17:17Speaker 4: people or so for a community board meeting, and I listened,
- 17:21Speaker 4: and I provided the board with had an opportunity to speak.
- 17:25Speaker 4: I provided them with some ideas to be more transparent,
- 17:30Speaker 4: because it seemed like transparency was one of the key
- 17:33Speaker 4: issues things were going on. Maybe you know, folks didn't
- 17:38Speaker 4: understand them or didn't know about them. And with that
- 17:40Speaker 4: so I offered some transparency tactics that maybe the board
- 17:44Speaker 4: could employ. I was then alerted that there was a
- 17:47Speaker 4: board opening, and after a lot of consideration, I put
- 17:52Speaker 4: my name in the hat. And if I was could
- 17:54Speaker 4: bring value to the organization, then I was more un
- 17:56Speaker 4: happy to serve my community in that way, at least
- 17:59Speaker 4: until you know, an election in the future that was
- 18:02Speaker 4: scheduled came up. In particular, their by laws, you know,
- 18:07Speaker 4: needed a lot of work and that kind of stuff.
- 18:08Speaker 4: So I was willing to do that to do that work,
- 18:12Speaker 4: and I was subsequently appointed by the board or selected
- 18:16Speaker 4: from a group of candidates to fill that open position.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I'm going to ask you, how exactly do they place
- 18:22Speaker 3: people on the board. So what's the process like.
- 18:26Speaker 4: So typically there is an election, Well, there is an
- 18:30Speaker 4: election every year in September by the bye laws, where
- 18:33Speaker 4: they elect new board members. If a board member resigns
- 18:38Speaker 4: or if there is an opening for whatever reason on
- 18:40Speaker 4: the board, then the remaining board members can accept applications
- 18:44Speaker 4: and appoints a person for the unexpired term until such
- 18:49Speaker 4: time that the election can be held. And that was
- 18:51Speaker 4: the case with me. There was an open position that
- 18:54Speaker 4: they were trying to feel, so the board collectively reviewed
- 18:58Speaker 4: applicants and selected me to be on the board to
- 19:01Speaker 4: feel that unexpired term.
- 19:03Speaker 3: And so how many board members are there now?
- 19:07Speaker 4: Now?
- 19:07Speaker 3: It's just me last man standing.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think I kind of joked about it
- 19:13Speaker 4: because one of the news agencies reported that all board
- 19:17Speaker 4: members minus one resigned and so my nickname was minus one.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Sell some T shirts with that I raise a little money.
- 19:27Speaker 4: For the fire department, right that. So yeah, so the
- 19:32Speaker 4: board exists. Now I am the sole board member remaining.
- 19:35Speaker 4: I'm a community member on the board, but our byalls
- 19:38Speaker 4: doesn't they don't allow me the option to appoint new
- 19:43Speaker 4: board members because it's just one and it takes four
- 19:46Speaker 4: board members to appoint a new board member, So until
- 19:51Speaker 4: the elections in September, it's me now by virtue of
- 19:56Speaker 4: our chief. Our fire chief also resigned, but by two
- 20:00Speaker 4: other bills that did allow me to make our assistant chief,
- 20:03Speaker 4: Thomas Robinson. It allowed me to move him into the
- 20:07Speaker 4: acting chief spot. So he is. He and I have
- 20:10Speaker 4: been working very closely together to kind of make sure
- 20:13Speaker 4: things are still operational, things are going well.
- 20:16Speaker 3: John's Berry Holstein of that's kind of weird to say
- 20:19Speaker 3: of the board when when you are the board of
- 20:21Speaker 3: the Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department in the heart of
- 20:24Speaker 3: West Virginia, there exists a profound force that goes beyond
- 20:26Speaker 3: the realm of sports, transcending limitations and fostering a sense
- 20:30Speaker 3: of belonging. Special Olympics remarkable initiative showcase of the latest
- 20:34Speaker 3: episode of West Virginia Enriched and collaboration with Huntington stands
- 20:37Speaker 3: as a testament to the power of determination, unity and
- 20:40Speaker 3: unwavering support. See of video highlighting the Special Olympics at
- 20:43Speaker 3: Facebook dot com slash five eighty wcchs. All right, so, Barry,
- 20:48Speaker 3: what has bit you mentioned? The public meeting there was
- 20:50Speaker 3: well over one hundred people that came out. How many
- 20:52Speaker 3: public meetings had there been There was there one or two.
- 20:54Speaker 4: So there was at the point right after the firefighters resigned,
- 21:03Speaker 4: there was a normal monthly board meeting that occurred, which
- 21:06Speaker 4: is always open to the community. And at that point,
- 21:09Speaker 4: you know, the word had gotten out that these firefighters
- 21:12Speaker 4: had resigned, so you know, obviously it brought in a
- 21:15Speaker 4: crowd of concerned community members to that particular board meeting.
- 21:19Speaker 3: And that was.
- 21:21Speaker 4: About six weeks ago or so, maybe two maybe two
- 21:24Speaker 4: months ago that that that board meeting existed, and that's
- 21:27Speaker 4: when they still had the full board, and that's when
- 21:29Speaker 4: I showed up to offer some some opportunities for improvement
- 21:34Speaker 4: with the board.
- 21:36Speaker 3: What has been the response of the community during all this,
- 21:38Speaker 3: Because again, it's anytime you agreed to serve on a board,
- 21:42Speaker 3: and I've served on plenty of them, you know, there's
- 21:45Speaker 3: a lot of responsibility that comes with it, but this
- 21:48Speaker 3: one even more so because this is this is first
- 21:50Speaker 3: responders we're talking about. This, This is people's safety in
- 21:53Speaker 3: their lives that could be could be jeopardized here. What
- 21:56Speaker 3: is the community response to all that's been very well?
- 22:00Speaker 4: So we had a after my appointment to the board,
- 22:04Speaker 4: my very first what would have been my first public
- 22:06Speaker 4: board meeting just last month. The that was the point
- 22:13Speaker 4: that literally a few hours before the board meeting, when
- 22:15Speaker 4: the when the remainder of the board decided to resign.
- 22:19Speaker 4: I think again, there was a lot of it was
- 22:23Speaker 4: just a lot of challenges going on between the board
- 22:26Speaker 4: members and between the firefighters and and everything. So they
- 22:29Speaker 4: decided that it was in their best interest to resign
- 22:32Speaker 4: at that point. And but I held a meeting anyway,
- 22:37Speaker 4: just myself and I tried to address the community about
- 22:41Speaker 4: what was going on to the best of my knowledge,
- 22:43Speaker 4: tried to make, you know, reassure them that we're going
- 22:46Speaker 4: to continue operations. And so hopefully it seems like the
- 22:50Speaker 4: community is rallying around the fire department. I've had a
- 22:55Speaker 4: lot of support offered to me from State Fire Marshal,
- 22:58Speaker 4: from County Commission, from CW's Sigmuannu with the Emergency Management
- 23:02Speaker 4: SYSMIR and Kanwall County. So everybody's been very supportive of me,
- 23:07Speaker 4: and uh, we're just we're just going to kind of
- 23:09Speaker 4: drive through and do the things that we can do
- 23:11Speaker 4: and what's important with the with the fire department. We
- 23:14Speaker 4: were able to. You know, I met with the group
- 23:17Speaker 4: that had previously resigned. Uh, they've agreed to come back,
- 23:21Speaker 4: and they they came back, and in fact, that night
- 23:24Speaker 4: of that meeting, they agreed to come back, and we
- 23:29Speaker 4: got them their equipment and they actually went out that
- 23:31Speaker 4: night and stopped a fire, uh from from getting out
- 23:36Speaker 4: of hand there in cross Lane. So so they've done
- 23:39Speaker 4: The firefighters have done a fabulous job, you know, as
- 23:43Speaker 4: they do. You know, these guys are volunteers who put
- 23:46Speaker 4: theirselves in that situation voluntarily with no pay and and
- 23:50Speaker 4: you know, so I think we uh, I want to
- 23:52Speaker 4: applaud that effort as well. But we're moving forward the
- 23:55Speaker 4: communities behind us. We we issued what it's called, you know,
- 24:00Speaker 4: these fire dues letters. For some reason, those didn't get
- 24:05Speaker 4: out previously, but I was able to get those to
- 24:08Speaker 4: the printers. They're meled out and the community should be
- 24:11Speaker 4: receiving those. And that's one way that the community can
- 24:13Speaker 4: really help the fire departments provide that operational funding needed
- 24:18Speaker 4: to run the organization. I think what I'm finding out
- 24:21Speaker 4: is many many believe that or think that the fire
- 24:23Speaker 4: department is some governmental organization, and that's not true. The
- 24:28Speaker 4: Volunteer Fire Department is a five O one C three.
- 24:31Speaker 4: It's a nonprofit organization, if you will, that exists through
- 24:38Speaker 4: the support of the community. So those letters are going
- 24:41Speaker 4: out and in that letter it also lets them know
- 24:43Speaker 4: that we are having a meeting on September the nineteenth,
- 24:46Speaker 4: where we will we will elect a full and complete
- 24:49Speaker 4: board at that time and we'll move forward with operations.
- 24:52Speaker 4: And I think, well, I think we'll be in good shape.
- 24:55Speaker 3: At that point. Do you is it your wish that
- 24:57Speaker 3: you would stay on the board or are you have
- 25:00Speaker 3: you had enough of being the only board member of
- 25:02Speaker 3: what or if you have thought that far at advance?
- 25:05Speaker 4: Well, so, honestly, at this point, we have a number
- 25:08Speaker 4: of community members who have expressed interest in being on
- 25:11Speaker 4: the board. In there, I certainly will will help and
- 25:15Speaker 4: stay as an advisory but at this point, assuming that
- 25:18Speaker 4: there's enough community interest in being on the board, I
- 25:21Speaker 4: will step down for a couple of reasons. But it's
- 25:25Speaker 4: it's not that this is, you know, overly challenging, because
- 25:29Speaker 4: that's what I signed up for, right But I'm actually
- 25:33Speaker 4: doing some some research that being on the board puts
- 25:37Speaker 4: me in a conflict, ok position, Well, I.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Mean it's good. It's good that you realize that talk
- 25:42Speaker 3: about the other fire departments in the area, because somebody,
- 25:45Speaker 3: like you said, you know, a fire occurs tragically, it's
- 25:48Speaker 3: got to be somebody's going to command. What has been
- 25:50Speaker 3: what's the relationship like with your fire department with the
- 25:52Speaker 3: others in the area, and how important have they been
- 25:54Speaker 3: in all this?
- 25:55Speaker 4: Sure, and they have been a great assistance to us.
- 25:57Speaker 4: There's always been and always existed these mutual aid agreements
- 26:02Speaker 4: between neighboring communities to kind of step in and help out.
- 26:06Speaker 4: And you know, Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department has done that.
- 26:10Speaker 4: We've we've shown up at at fires in Nitro or
- 26:13Speaker 4: fires in Institute, or fires in Dumbbar or fires you know,
- 26:16Speaker 4: things happen on the interstate. We we've shown up to
- 26:19Speaker 4: those as well to support them. But they have really
- 26:22Speaker 4: they were very gracious, of course, and really stepped up
- 26:26Speaker 4: and came into Cross Leans community in a time when
- 26:28Speaker 4: we needed them. So I certainly appreciate their, uh, their
- 26:32Speaker 4: willingness to do that. So the relationship is there, it exists,
- 26:35Speaker 4: and I've been reaching out to them as well to
- 26:38Speaker 4: try to engage and and make sure that you know,
- 26:41Speaker 4: we're all working together and uh for the for the
- 26:44Speaker 4: better of the of the community and the whole.
- 26:46Speaker 3: And that relationship with the County Commission in Connaught County,
- 26:48Speaker 3: I know that. I think I've read that Commissioner Commission
- 26:51Speaker 3: President Wheeler had been very complementary of of your service there.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Yeah, the County Commission has been has been great in
- 26:58Speaker 4: offering their their their assistance and some things. And CW.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Sigmuent in particular, who's uh, who's who's great uh at
- 27:08Speaker 4: at what he does and he's came in and provided
- 27:11Speaker 4: some some advice and provided some some some help in
- 27:17Speaker 4: in kind of pulling it and keeping it all together.
- 27:19Speaker 3: We had a text here that was waiting on you
- 27:21Speaker 3: when you got here. It says, question for the Tyler
- 27:23Speaker 3: v FD, if time allows, what is the current I
- 27:26Speaker 3: s O rating? And do you foresee any change to that?
- 27:30Speaker 4: So I don't have that written down. I did look
- 27:33Speaker 4: that up, by the way, the the actual I s
- 27:37Speaker 4: O rating And I don't want to misspeak and give
- 27:40Speaker 4: an improper number, but it's actually pretty good. And I
- 27:44Speaker 4: my understanding is based on the assessment of how that
- 27:47Speaker 4: process works. That you know, we were able to recover
- 27:51Speaker 4: very quickly. We did lose, you know, a number of firefighters,
- 27:55Speaker 4: and in fact, you know, I think the number was
- 27:58Speaker 4: reported at ten, but in reality, like one never resigned
- 28:03Speaker 4: and most of them have came back and we've been
- 28:06Speaker 4: able to increase our numbers from that anyway. So at
- 28:10Speaker 4: this point I don't foresee any impact to the I
- 28:12Speaker 4: s O number rating because we have we have certainly
- 28:16Speaker 4: fully recovered and things are on a good path. I've
- 28:19Speaker 4: engaged with our c p A to do a financial
- 28:22Speaker 4: review of the organization to provide for that next board
- 28:25Speaker 4: that comes on. So there's confidence with them, and there's
- 28:28Speaker 4: confidence within, you know, within the community that that we're
- 28:31Speaker 4: in good standing. We've invited the working with the State
- 28:34Speaker 4: Auditors Office to come in and and do their their
- 28:38Speaker 4: piece of it as well, because we want to make
- 28:40Speaker 4: sure that everybody has the confidence in what's going on
- 28:43Speaker 4: at the fire department and and continue to support the
- 28:47Speaker 4: fire department there and the firefighters that do that such
- 28:49Speaker 4: a great job.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Before we let you go, Barry, what is your final
- 28:53Speaker 3: message about all this? If you want to give a
- 28:55Speaker 3: message to the residents or served by the Tawler Mountain
- 28:57Speaker 3: Fire Department, would you say to them.
- 29:00Speaker 4: Yeah, So I think, you know, the Cross Lanes community
- 29:03Speaker 4: has I've been there thirty years, and you know, just
- 29:07Speaker 4: like everything else, things change and things move. But that
- 29:11Speaker 4: fire department has been there for I think since nineteen
- 29:15Speaker 4: fifty one is the date. So that fire department has
- 29:19Speaker 4: been a rock in that community. Those guys come to
- 29:24Speaker 4: your home and when you need them most, without question,
- 29:29Speaker 4: and they do it on a voluntary service. So I
- 29:31Speaker 4: think I want to make sure that the Cross Lanes
- 29:33Speaker 4: community understands that things are going well. You know, they're
- 29:37Speaker 4: not certainly not ideal, but we are back, we are
- 29:40Speaker 4: back on track. The firefighters are answering calls, they're coming
- 29:44Speaker 4: out to you know, into your neighborhood when they need it.
- 29:46Speaker 4: And I just, you know, certainly hope that they support
- 29:49Speaker 4: the fire department, either through commitment of coming out and
- 29:52Speaker 4: helping for fundraising, showing up at board meetings so that
- 29:56Speaker 4: they are informed about what's going on, and demanding that
- 29:59Speaker 4: the you know, answer to that. That's what they do.
- 30:02Speaker 4: It's what boards do and or or you know, help
- 30:06Speaker 4: out financially as well.
- 30:07Speaker 3: All right, And the board meetings, as you said, Barry,
- 30:10Speaker 3: are open to the public.
- 30:11Speaker 4: That's correct, And the next board meeting is this Thursday
- 30:15Speaker 4: at seven pm at the community building next to the
- 30:18Speaker 4: fire station, and that is in that meeting. Of course,
- 30:21Speaker 4: without a full compliment aboard, I can't do a whole lot.
- 30:24Speaker 4: But what I can do and by bylaws, is accept
- 30:27Speaker 4: nominations for board. And we've already had, like I say,
- 30:31Speaker 4: we've had a few that are that have expressed that interest.
- 30:34Speaker 4: But we'll be accepting additional nominations there and then in
- 30:36Speaker 4: September we'll have additional nominations in an election at the
- 30:41Speaker 4: very beginning of the September board meeting.
- 30:43Speaker 3: All right, board Member Barry Hole state, what'd you call yourself?
- 30:47Speaker 3: Minus minus one minus one state? I appreciate you being
- 30:51Speaker 3: and I think very you are to be applauded for
- 30:53Speaker 3: stepping up into this too. I know that's not why
- 30:55Speaker 3: you're doing it, but still, I mean I as an
- 30:57Speaker 3: outsider looking in, I mean, somebody's got to be able to,
- 31:00Speaker 3: you know, kind of take the bull by the horns
- 31:01Speaker 3: trying to get some things straightened out there. So I
- 31:03Speaker 3: think I think you're owed some gratitude for that as well.
- 31:06Speaker 4: Well, thank you, And I do want to be clear,
- 31:08Speaker 4: you know, I know there was a lot of and
- 31:10Speaker 4: I mentioned a lot of allegations there were going back
- 31:12Speaker 4: and forth. There's I haven't I haven't came across something
- 31:15Speaker 4: that was, you know, some smoking gun of miss misappropriation
- 31:19Speaker 4: or miss alga. So I want to be very clear
- 31:21Speaker 4: in that things look great and we're going to provide
- 31:23Speaker 4: that transparency to the community.

- 34:59Speaker 3: Charleston at three o'clock this Wednesday will start the distribution
- 35:02Speaker 3: around for it. Listen to me now, kids must be
- 35:06Speaker 3: present to get a backpack. None of this I got
- 35:08Speaker 3: a kid at home kind of thing. No kid, no backpack.
- 35:11Speaker 3: That's what these rules. We'll see you here Wednesday afternoon
- 35:13Speaker 3: the Annual Backpack Attack seventeenth annual sponsored by Selango Law.
- 35:18Speaker 3: It is one of the biggest events in West Virginia,
- 35:20Speaker 3: and it's happened a little later on this month the
- 35:22Speaker 3: Annual Italian Festival West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival in Clarksburg.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Laney Wells is with the festivals. He joined us now
- 35:29Speaker 3: in the par of Marstore's studio one day, one day
- 35:31Speaker 3: away from getting wisdom teeth removed. I understand, is that correct?
- 35:34Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 35:35Speaker 3: Well, I appreciate what to blame your mother forgiving me
- 35:39Speaker 3: that information, and thanks for being a trooper here this morning.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Although I think it might have been better if we'd
- 35:44Speaker 3: have had you on tomorrow while under the influence of painkillers.
- 35:46Speaker 3: That may have made a better for a better interview. Uh,
- 35:50Speaker 3: tell us what goes on at this festival? Tell us?
- 35:51Speaker 3: About it.
- 35:53Speaker 15: I mean, it's just all things Italian that you can
- 35:55Speaker 15: think of. There's Italian songs on stage, eating, you know, pizza, pastas,
- 36:00Speaker 15: stay hogis, dancing with children, all Italian colors.
- 36:04Speaker 6: All the time.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Now, how did you get involved in this?
- 36:07Speaker 15: Well, my mom is Italian and she's from up there
- 36:12Speaker 15: and it's been going on. She went to the very
- 36:14Speaker 15: first festival in nineteen seventy nine and I have gone
- 36:18Speaker 15: since I was six months old, and so I've gone
- 36:20Speaker 15: to every single festival and always wanted to be the queen,
- 36:23Speaker 15: but never thought that it's something that I could do.
- 36:26Speaker 3: So that's what you're going for now, to be the
- 36:27Speaker 3: Queen of the Italian Fatal currently.
- 36:30Speaker 6: And so this Labor Day, I'm going to crown the
- 36:33Speaker 6: next queen.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Okay, So so you've had a year or so is
- 36:36Speaker 3: the reigning queens at the point work?
- 36:37Speaker 6: Yes?
- 36:37Speaker 3: What exactly are the duties of the Queen of the
- 36:39Speaker 3: Italian Festival.
- 36:40Speaker 6: Well, I've traveled around the state doing different praise.
- 36:42Speaker 15: I've gone to the Forest Festival parade, I was in
- 36:45Speaker 15: the w Homecoming parade, and I just did the Festival
- 36:47Speaker 15: Parade in Charleston this past summer, and just going out
- 36:51Speaker 15: around the state and telling people about the Italian Festival,
- 36:54Speaker 15: wanting them to come see it, even meeting Italian people
- 36:56Speaker 15: who may not know about it to come up and
- 36:58Speaker 15: go to the festivals.
- 37:00Speaker 3: It's a pretty big deal. I've actually been up there
- 37:02Speaker 3: for it. It's actually a pretty big deal. You mentioned,
- 37:05Speaker 3: of course, the food, and by the way, thank you
- 37:07Speaker 3: for the cookies. I get some Italian Ryan. We have
- 37:09Speaker 3: cookies here courtesy of Delaney Italian Italian Cookies. People automatically
- 37:15Speaker 3: think of the food, Delaney, but there is a lot
- 37:17Speaker 3: more to it than just the food.
- 37:19Speaker 6: Talk about that sometimes. It's even family reunions with people.
- 37:23Speaker 15: They plan their family reunions around the Italian Festival so
- 37:26Speaker 15: they can come back together. It's meeting new friends, it's
- 37:29Speaker 15: making more connections.
- 37:31Speaker 6: It's just taking.
- 37:32Speaker 15: Pride in our heritage and our history because some of
- 37:36Speaker 15: our Italian ancestors had a hard time when they first
- 37:38Speaker 15: came to America, when they first came to us Virginia,
- 37:40Speaker 15: and it's just a way to honor that and what
- 37:42Speaker 15: all we've been through to get to where we are today.
- 37:45Speaker 15: And just also for the younger generations. My favorite thing
- 37:48Speaker 15: about being the queen was dancing with the children and
- 37:51Speaker 15: meeting the children, and you know, having being someone that
- 37:54Speaker 15: they can look up to, and I think that's the
- 37:56Speaker 15: most important part of the festival.
- 37:57Speaker 3: And I think it's very important that you meant that
- 38:00Speaker 3: getting young people educated as to what this whole thing is,
- 38:04Speaker 3: because sometimes these things, no matter whether it's Italian festival
- 38:07Speaker 3: or whatever, it can mean a whole lot more to
- 38:08Speaker 3: the older folks than what it does to younger people.
- 38:11Speaker 3: Getting the next general because somebody's got to carry it
- 38:13Speaker 3: on and it takes a lot to pull off this thing.
- 38:15Speaker 3: And the dates again are.
- 38:17Speaker 15: August thirtieth, thirty first, and September first.
- 38:20Speaker 3: And I mentioned that one of the reason I'm having
- 38:22Speaker 3: you on today is because a lot of people from
- 38:25Speaker 3: around the state of West Virginia go to this. A
- 38:26Speaker 3: lot of people from Charleston make the trip the two hours,
- 38:29Speaker 3: so whatever it is trip up there, it's really a
- 38:32Speaker 3: big deal for people here in Charleston to make that
- 38:34Speaker 3: trip up to Clarksburg.
- 38:35Speaker 15: Oh yeah, definitely. So yeah, it's a big deal that
- 38:38Speaker 15: they go up. And I mean it's just I've loved
- 38:41Speaker 15: having There was somebody in the festival pray that came
- 38:44Speaker 15: that said, oh, I'm Italian and I'm around Clarksburg and
- 38:47Speaker 15: it's really nice to see it represented down here because
- 38:49Speaker 15: some people, you know, don't know about it or don't
- 38:52Speaker 15: make that trip because it is such a big deal.
- 38:54Speaker 15: So it's great that they can make it.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Now, talk about you personally. What do you do in life?
- 39:01Speaker 3: College student? Is that right?
- 39:02Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 39:02Speaker 15: I'm going into my senior year at the University of
- 39:05Speaker 15: Kentucky studying broadcast journalism.
- 39:07Speaker 3: You want a job, yes, well, because we actually have
- 39:11Speaker 3: we have an opening here now, but in the news department.
- 39:15Speaker 3: But I'll tell you what once you've run into your
- 39:17Speaker 3: senior year. Now, is there a particular focus of broadcasting
- 39:20Speaker 3: you're going into?
- 39:21Speaker 6: Just radio and TV?
- 39:23Speaker 3: Okay, I'm glad to hear the radio part because we
- 39:25Speaker 3: don't hear a lot of that these days. What's the
- 39:27Speaker 3: broadcasting program like at the University of Kentucky. Yeah, here,
- 39:30Speaker 3: it's pretty good.
- 39:30Speaker 6: It is pretty good.
- 39:32Speaker 15: They actually are just building a new little like news
- 39:34Speaker 15: station at the bottom of Reperena for us to go to,
- 39:37Speaker 15: because now it's just like in a little basement in
- 39:39Speaker 15: one of the education buildings. But they're building a whole new,
- 39:42Speaker 15: big studio in Rapperina.
- 39:46Speaker 6: They have a class.
- 39:47Speaker 15: I think it's like advanced TV news reporting, where we
- 39:49Speaker 15: put on our newscast where some people are producers, anchors,
- 39:53Speaker 15: reporters sports. We have a newspaper, The Kentucky Colonel, and
- 39:58Speaker 15: it's now gone to more multi media. There is a broadcasting,
- 40:01Speaker 15: a podcast with the magazine and newspaper too.
- 40:05Speaker 3: I mean, the thing that has changed so much in
- 40:08Speaker 3: the world, and I've been doing this for thirty six years,
- 40:10Speaker 3: is people will make comments about radio, telephone. Nobody watches television, no,
- 40:14Speaker 3: but listen to the radio. No, That's that's entirely not true.
- 40:18Speaker 3: The difference is is the way that people receive the
- 40:20Speaker 3: information now. I mean, I have seventy percent of our
- 40:23Speaker 3: listeners to this show are listening other in someplace other
- 40:27Speaker 3: than radio. They're listening on their phone, they're listening on
- 40:29Speaker 3: their iPad, they're listening, you know, from the websites or
- 40:31Speaker 3: or one of the various apps or whatever. So it's
- 40:33Speaker 3: still it's still a viable media. There is, just the
- 40:36Speaker 3: ways of consuming said information just a little bit different
- 40:38Speaker 3: these days.
- 40:39Speaker 15: Oh yeah, and they take that into account, like they
- 40:42Speaker 15: have like TikTok for The Kentucky Colonel, and like everyone
- 40:45Speaker 15: knows the Kentucky colonel kid who does the tiktoks.
- 40:48Speaker 6: For the school.
- 40:49Speaker 15: So yeah, I love how they've adapted to more of
- 40:52Speaker 15: like the social media way to get news, or like
- 40:55Speaker 15: you're on your phone and on your iPad and things
- 40:57Speaker 15: like that.
- 40:57Speaker 3: And I will mention in full disclosure that you come
- 41:00Speaker 3: from a line of broadcasters. You know, your your mother
- 41:03Speaker 3: is Natalie Tennant, former Secretary of State, current canafor County Commission,
- 41:06Speaker 3: knows a little something about news as well as well
- 41:08Speaker 3: as your dad, so you come by it naturally. So
- 41:11Speaker 3: I'm serious. We'll give you an application, we'll hire you
- 41:12Speaker 3: by the end of the day probably hear.
- 41:14Speaker 5: Oh, perfect, thank you, and then you won't.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Be able to make the Italian Festival. Sorry. Give us
- 41:18Speaker 3: the details again on the Italian Festival and where can
- 41:20Speaker 3: people learn more? Got website social media?
- 41:22Speaker 15: Yes, it's at the Italian Festival website which is wv
- 41:26Speaker 15: HIF dot com. And it's Labor Day weekend, So August thirtieth,
- 41:31Speaker 15: thirty first and September first.
- 41:33Speaker 3: All right, best of luck, and your reign as queen
- 41:36Speaker 3: is coming to an end. So what advice would you
- 41:38Speaker 3: give to the next queen other than be ready to

- 41:43Speaker 15: Yeah, honestly just to have fun, just to you know,

- 45:38Speaker 3: it's uh, it's pretty intense. In Morgantown. Hobbies talked about

- 46:44Speaker 3: has anything to do with several lawsuits and some controversy
- 46:47Speaker 3: that has surrounded the department for some time, allegations of
- 46:50Speaker 3: police brutality and things of that nature. Not believe that
- 46:52Speaker 3: it's related to that, but he did announce on the
- 46:54Speaker 3: Facebook page the Dunbar Police Department that he would be

- 47:24Speaker 3: to mention this. I was watching over the weekend the
- 47:27Speaker 3: coverage of various things related to the presidential race. As
- 47:31Speaker 3: you may imagine, it dominated the news and it's going
- 47:35Speaker 3: to sorry, but it's going to for some some time.
- 47:39Speaker 3: I saw jd Vance's interview with Jonathan Carl yesterday morning
- 47:43Speaker 3: on ABC News Televisions This Week program I will say this,
- 47:48Speaker 3: it was not as contentious as some of the Stephanopoulos
- 47:52Speaker 3: interviews can be, but respectful, but very very touchy. It
- 47:58Speaker 3: seemed to be the best way to describe that interview
- 48:01Speaker 3: between the JD. Vans and Jonathan carl and ABC Television yesterday.
- 48:06Speaker 3: And I'm gonna go ahead and make a statement now.
- 48:09Speaker 3: And I know that when I make this statement, some
- 48:11Speaker 3: of you are not going to like this, but I
- 48:13Speaker 3: want you to hear me out on this. Okay, When
- 48:16Speaker 3: Vice President Kamala Harris, the current Vice president and Democratic
- 48:23Speaker 3: nominee for president, Kamala Harris, when she debates former President Trump,
- 48:29Speaker 3: hear me out, I think she's going to embarrass him. Now,
- 48:33Speaker 3: that's not me endorsing Harris by any stretch of the imagination.
- 48:37Speaker 3: So just calm down with that. You know where I
- 48:38Speaker 3: stand on the race for president. I'm saying just based
- 48:42Speaker 3: on her ability as a speaker, she's gonna own Donald Trump.
- 48:49Speaker 3: Let's go back to the debate between Trump and President Biden.
- 48:55Speaker 3: That was the beginning of the end for the Biden
- 49:00Speaker 3: reelection campaign. I mean, facing Biden looked old, he looked feeble,
- 49:07Speaker 3: he looked confused, and it was his undoing. And in
- 49:12Speaker 3: that debate, if you recall, Trump didn't do a heck
- 49:16Speaker 3: of a lot. He pretty much let Biden's performance speak
- 49:20Speaker 3: for itself. And the next morning, as I talked about it,
- 49:25Speaker 3: and others did, Hoppy and every other news organization in
- 49:28Speaker 3: the free world talked about it, nobody was talking about
- 49:31Speaker 3: the number of lies that Donald Trump told, and there
- 49:35Speaker 3: were a lot. The takeaway was from that debate at
- 49:39Speaker 3: that time, a couple of months ago, is that Joe
- 49:41Speaker 3: Biden is old and totally out of touch, which he
- 49:46Speaker 3: is and was. And getting back to Kamala Harris, she
- 49:53Speaker 3: is a former prosecutor and is a natural public speaker.
- 50:00Speaker 3: And I'm saying what I'm saying based on style and
- 50:03Speaker 3: performance of the debate, not the content, because let's face it,
- 50:08Speaker 3: in a lot of these situations, it's not about content, Okay,
- 50:13Speaker 3: It's about presentation. And that was the undoing. That was
- 50:18Speaker 3: the beginning of the undoing, although it had been talked
- 50:20Speaker 3: about for a while. That was the undoing of Joe Biden.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Was his poor was per his poor performance there in
- 50:31Speaker 3: the debate. So I think She's going to do pretty well.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Trump is. I don't think Trump's gonna know what hitt him.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Of course it won't matter because where we are now,
- 50:46Speaker 3: no matter what side you're on, your chosen candidate's going
- 50:48Speaker 3: to be the winner, no matter what. That's where we are.
- 50:51Speaker 3: And speaking of which, with the with the fiftieth anniversary
- 50:55Speaker 3: of Watergate going on, may have heard Danny Jones with
- 50:58Speaker 3: hoy On Hoppy talking about it last week. I was
- 51:01Speaker 3: watching some coverage of the anniversary of Watergate and it
- 51:04Speaker 3: occurred to me and others commented the same way. Can
- 51:07Speaker 3: you imagine if Watergate were to happen today, or if
- 51:11Speaker 3: we had the same media coverage and outlets in nineteen
- 51:13Speaker 3: seventy four that we have now, Nixon would have never
- 51:18Speaker 3: resigned back in those days. As someone pointed out, back
- 51:24Speaker 3: in those days, at least the national news came from
- 51:25Speaker 3: a couple of different sources, the three networks, The New
- 51:29Speaker 3: York Times, Washington Posts, maybe a couple more. That's pretty
- 51:32Speaker 3: much it. Everyone in the public was consuming the same
- 51:36Speaker 3: news from the same outlets, and it's not so much
- 51:40Speaker 3: these days. People go out and they find the news
- 51:43Speaker 3: that best suits their political ideology. If Fox News were
- 51:47Speaker 3: a thing back then, or if Watergate would have happened,
- 51:51Speaker 3: the day, they'd have said Nixon did nothing wrong, and
- 51:54Speaker 3: MSNBC would have said Nixon was guilty. If every crime
- 51:57Speaker 3: ever committed in the twentieth century and the effort to
- 52:02Speaker 3: get Nixon to resign then was bipartisan, do you think
- 52:07Speaker 3: that would happen today? Not a chance. The Republicans would
- 52:10Speaker 3: have dug in their heels protect him, just like they
- 52:12Speaker 3: did with Trump. And if Nixon were a Democrat, the
- 52:14Speaker 3: Democratic Party would have done the same thing. So kind
- 52:16Speaker 3: of sad what our society has has become. All right,
- 52:19Speaker 3: The Dave Island showing five Dlie brought to you in
- 52:21Speaker 3: part by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm, Texas.
- 52:26Speaker 3: If only Kamala could quit laughing in other Texas. Really,
- 52:29Speaker 3: all she says is I imagine what could be unburdened by
- 52:32Speaker 3: what has been, says text. All right, gotta go, Hopy,
- 52:35Speaker 3: coming up with talk line at ten o six. I'll
- 52:37Speaker 3: see you tomorrow. Till then, have fun and love somebody.
