Transcript
- 0:13Speaker 1: Normally, I'll pick something that I've seen and we'll throw
- 0:17Speaker 1: that out as a threat. This time, since we're on
- 0:20Speaker 1: a very specific topic for the regular Movie of the
- 0:23Speaker 1: Week episode this week, I thought we'd start off with
- 0:26Speaker 1: a different conversation. And I would ask, which trailers you
- 0:32Speaker 1: both got going into this week's movie, but I already
- 0:34Speaker 1: know what one of you got. So before I get in,
- 0:38Speaker 1: I think I've maybe given my thoughts on the whole franchise,
- 0:43Speaker 1: but what are your thoughts on the scary movie trilogy
- 0:46Speaker 1: that then became, what, six now, seven? There are almost
- 0:50Speaker 1: as many as Scream, so I don't even remember how
- 0:54Speaker 1: many there are.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Oh, man. Seeing that trailer, I was like, that doesn't
- 0:58Speaker 2: look funny at all.
- 1:00Speaker 1: See, that's what I thought.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I did not get a trailer for Scary Movie.
- 1:03Speaker 1: See, they did the new Scary Movie, which I did
- 1:05Speaker 1: know they were making another one. But yeah, the fact
- 1:07Speaker 1: that they either planned accordingly or just hurried the hell
- 1:11Speaker 1: up and got it ready so that they could have
- 1:13Speaker 1: put it before Scream. I was like, yeah, I mean,
- 1:15Speaker 1: that's good marketing. I'll give them that. But I've never.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Maybe it's because I like Scream. but not not just
- 1:24Speaker 1: it's just that style of comedy I'm using air quotes
- 1:27Speaker 1: there that I'm like if you go back far enough
- 1:30Speaker 1: it was cool and then you guys killed it so
- 1:33Speaker 1: it's like airplanes I'm good with yeah top secret was
- 1:37Speaker 1: a good run even moving into naked gun by the
- 1:40Speaker 1: first one I don't know I barely remember the sequels
- 1:43Speaker 1: but I remember them being funny at the time the
- 1:45Speaker 1: TV show originally was pretty funny so like that style
- 1:49Speaker 1: of humor can work but by the time we got
- 1:52Speaker 1: to disaster movie and epic movie and date movie and
- 1:55Speaker 1: all the other knockoff of knockoffs that came around, I
- 1:58Speaker 1: was just like, I, you.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Know, not another, not another teen movie.
- 2:03Speaker 1: That was good. That's a different group of people that
- 2:06Speaker 1: made that one. And they were legitimately making a funny movie.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Like they did find all of the cheesy things about
- 2:12Speaker 1: teen movies that were abundant at that time. And like,
- 2:15Speaker 1: they kind of nailed the way to make fun of it.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So that one, I will give you that one is good.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So yeah, I don't rule it out overall, but then
- 2:22Speaker 1: I also.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Don't find the two younger Wayne's brothers funny. No. While
- 2:29Speaker 1: I think the older two are hilarious. Like, again, maybe
- 2:33Speaker 1: it's just bias because most of their work is from
- 2:36Speaker 1: a long time ago, and I don't really see either
- 2:38Speaker 1: of them doing things. Damon shows up every once in
- 2:40Speaker 1: a while now, but mostly just to hang out with
- 2:42Speaker 1: his kid. But yeah, I don't really see anything out
- 2:45Speaker 1: of the older two. All I get is the younger two,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and I just, they're not. They're not that funny.
- 2:51Speaker 2: That's just me. Yeah. I think the first one came
- 2:54Speaker 2: out when I was probably like 10. And so it
- 2:58Speaker 2: hit then.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Grossly inappropriate for a 10 year old, but you were
- 3:01Speaker 1: still watching.
- 3:02Speaker 3: I think I saw maybe half of the first one
- 3:04Speaker 3: and thought this is dumb.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah. I haven't watched most of them. And I like
- 3:07Speaker 1: dumb things. I've seen a lot of the clips online now.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Like I've seen the Chris Elliott stuff because like people
- 3:13Speaker 1: think that's hilarious. And I'm like, eh, I get it.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I mean, Chris Elliott's funny in his own ridiculous way.
- 3:20Speaker 1: But again, it just seems like you sandwiched Chris Elliott
- 3:22Speaker 1: into this movie because he's doing his weird thing that
- 3:25Speaker 1: he does in everything he's in. But yeah, I've seen
- 3:29Speaker 1: bits and pieces of it. I might have tried to
- 3:31Speaker 1: watch the first one, but I'm definitely not bothered with
- 3:34Speaker 1: any of the sequels. And I'm just like, they're just
- 3:37Speaker 1: so dumb. And they're going... I'm fine with gross, but
- 3:41Speaker 1: they're going gross for the sake of gross at some point.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And I'm like, I don't care. It's not amusing at all.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'm not shocked by it, but I also don't find
- 3:49Speaker 1: it funny, so what are we doing here?
- 3:51Speaker 3: I don't have a huge problem with gross-out humor, as
- 3:55Speaker 3: long as it's actually funny. There's some cleverness to it,
- 3:59Speaker 3: but if it's, oh, look, the guy's just puking all
- 4:01Speaker 3: over it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Every once in a while I'll get something that I
- 4:04Speaker 1: am surprised when it's something really lowbrow that I'm like, no,
- 4:09Speaker 1: all right, that's funny. That just hits and it works.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But there's a lot of other stuff that I'm like, yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I see what you're doing. I just don't find it funny.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, they were like throwing dildos around and stuff.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Which again in the trailer in that could be funny
- 4:23Speaker 2: on paper that could be funny but again just seeing.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It in the movie i'm like oh that looks like
- 4:28Speaker 1: you're trying real hard yeah and it's not gonna land
- 4:31Speaker 1: for me but that's or they're not trying hard enough
- 4:33Speaker 1: maybe that's just me i yeah it's like i've seen
- 4:37Speaker 1: some stuff that goes down pretty gross roads and sometimes
- 4:40Speaker 1: i'm like you know surprisingly this is pretty well written
- 4:43Speaker 1: and it's funny but scary movies never hit that way
- 4:46Speaker 1: for me and Enough that I've avoided it for the
- 4:49Speaker 1: most part. So just wondered what your thoughts were.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Pierce, on the other hand, was like, I want to
- 4:54Speaker 2: see that. And I was like, you can go by yourself.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Does he normally like those kind of comedies?
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'd say his humor. He has a
- 5:04Speaker 2: good sense of humor, but he appreciates those things more
- 5:09Speaker 2: than I do.
- 5:09Speaker 1: As much as I.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Love and appreciate Pierce, there's just enough humor. frat boy
- 5:17Speaker 3: yeah to to where i could see where he would.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Like or dad jokes i can see i can see
- 5:23Speaker 1: him he needs to graduate to dad jokes in the
- 5:25Speaker 1: future because he's definitely a dad joke kind of a
- 5:28Speaker 1: guy just waiting for him.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I think maybe it's just like him being easygoing and
- 5:31Speaker 2: getting along with everyone yeah also.
- 5:33Speaker 3: That's probably a much more polite thing to say about
- 5:36Speaker 3: him than what i said but.
- 5:38Speaker 2: It translates into like laughing at things more easily whereas
- 5:42Speaker 2: i'm like that's not funny.
- 5:44Speaker 1: That's kind of where I am. I think I'm just
- 5:46Speaker 1: harsh on comedy in general. It's like, that's why like
- 5:50Speaker 1: it's rare that I reference like, oh, I really like
- 5:52Speaker 1: this comedy. I think we did an episode where we
- 5:54Speaker 1: kind of talked about that. It's like, wow, this is
- 5:56Speaker 1: a modern comedy that I find funny. Like that's unusual
- 5:59Speaker 1: because most stuff that they put out that's supposed to
- 6:02Speaker 1: be comedies. I'm like, at best, if it's like split genres,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I'm usually like, okay, well, this worked for me, but
- 6:08Speaker 1: maybe I'm just leaning into the other half of the genre.
- 6:11Speaker 1: But yeah, just straight up comedies, it's rare because most
- 6:14Speaker 1: of them are just kind of dumb. Yeah. So yeah, thankfully,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I'm not really planning on going to see them.
- 6:24Speaker 2: But another trailer was they're bringing back Silence of the Lambs.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I didn't get that trailer neither. Did you get any
- 6:32Speaker 1: good trailers?
- 6:33Speaker 3: I got the trailer for Catch Me If You Can 2,
- 6:38Speaker 3: which looked great.
- 6:39Speaker 2: What?
- 6:39Speaker 1: Is that actually, or is it just thematically pretty much
- 6:43Speaker 1: the same movie, or it's literally a sequel?
- 6:44Speaker 3: Well, I don't know. Somehow the first movie totally missed my, like,
- 6:51Speaker 3: I'd never heard of it, and I'm sitting there watching
- 6:54Speaker 3: the trailer for the second one, and I was like,
- 6:56Speaker 3: this actually looks good. Now I have to go find
- 6:58Speaker 3: the first one, and it's not streaming on anything that's free.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Well, I haven't heard anything about it, so I.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I haven't either.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Guarantee that means Spielberg's not making it, because he does
- 7:07Speaker 1: have one coming out, and it's not Catch Me If
- 7:09Speaker 1: You Can 2.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Spielberg, I did get a trailer for a Spielberg movie,
- 7:13Speaker 3: but I don't remember.
- 7:13Speaker 1: That weird sci-fi one. That's the thing. People are saying,
- 7:16Speaker 1: and I didn't think about this, because I get so
- 7:18Speaker 1: used to people being around, but they were like, well,
- 7:21Speaker 1: this might be the last big sci-fi blockbuster for Spielberg.
- 7:24Speaker 1: And I was like, why? Oh, well, shit, he's probably 70,
- 7:28Speaker 1: isn't he? I didn't do the math, but I'm like, well...
- 7:32Speaker 1: He might make more movies, but it may not be
- 7:34Speaker 1: another big blockbuster sci-fi movie like this. So, like, they
- 7:37Speaker 1: might be right.
- 7:37Speaker 3: When was the last time he directed a movie?
- 7:39Speaker 1: He directs them pretty regular. I mean, Fableman's just won, like,
- 7:42Speaker 1: an Oscar. And what else? He did one since then,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I feel like.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Because I know he's produced a ton.
- 7:49Speaker 1: He still works pretty regular for an old dude.
- 7:51Speaker 3: But I didn't think he was actually directing anymore.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he still makes them. And sometimes it's
- 7:56Speaker 1: just total misfires that he just shows up for. What's
- 8:00Speaker 1: that stupid video game?
- 8:02Speaker 2: Oh ready player one oh my.
- 8:03Speaker 1: God I was so annoyed by that well and again
- 8:06Speaker 1: feels like phoning it in man he just it does
- 8:09Speaker 1: not feel like.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Spielberg yeah they can't they can't all be E.T.
- 8:13Speaker 1: He's pretty solid though you go back and look I'm
- 8:15Speaker 1: like it's rare that he misfires like there's a few
- 8:19Speaker 1: that he phones it in on but for the most
- 8:21Speaker 1: part even the ones that aren't huge blockbuster hits I'm
- 8:23Speaker 1: like but that's a good movie that's a good movie
- 8:25Speaker 1: like so yeah so weird that somebody wants to do
- 8:28Speaker 1: a sequel to one of his movies that's not him
- 8:32Speaker 1: That's weird.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Was that the first one, one of his movies?
- 8:35Speaker 1: It's one of his, yeah. I didn't know that. Because
- 8:37Speaker 1: it's one of those I didn't see for a long
- 8:39Speaker 1: time and kept hearing about it going, I need to
- 8:41Speaker 1: watch this. I mean, it's Spielberg, so it is solid.
- 8:44Speaker 1: So yeah, I would say definitely watch it. But do
- 8:47Speaker 1: I need a sequel?
- 8:48Speaker 3: I don't.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And is there anyone involved in it? What is the cast?
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, is Leo DiCaprio?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Is Tom Hanks back?
- 8:55Speaker 3: Oh, they didn't show him in the.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So what? How is this?
- 8:58Speaker 2: Basically, it's just another person.
- 8:59Speaker 3: So apparently, just going off the trailer, who I'm assuming
- 9:05Speaker 3: was the main character of the first movie, wakes up
- 9:07Speaker 3: in the hospital and she's like, oh good, it's all over.
- 9:10Speaker 3: That's literally what she said. Oh good, it's all over with.
- 9:13Speaker 3: And then Elijah Wood comes walking into her hospital room
- 9:16Speaker 3: and says, nope.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Is this ready or not?
- 9:19Speaker 3: What'd I say?
- 9:19Speaker 1: Catch me if you can. Yeah, Ready or Not. Oh.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Because I know that is how this next movie starts
- 9:27Speaker 1: in the Ready or Not series.
- 9:29Speaker 2: That makes more sense.
- 9:30Speaker 1: That's way more likely.
- 9:33Speaker 3: No, Catch Me If You Can I have seen.
- 9:34Speaker 2: It is good.
- 9:35Speaker 1: It's a quite enjoyable movie.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I love Ready or Not. I am excited for the
- 9:40Speaker 2: sequel for that one.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And that is the same guy making it. So that's
- 9:44Speaker 1: why I actually have hope for it.
- 9:45Speaker 3: And I'm assuming that's not Spielberg.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Not Spielberg.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Okay, all right. It's Radio Silence. The guys who did
- 9:51Speaker 2: Scream 5 and 6.
- 9:52Speaker 1: The guys who did the good screams. No offense.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 1: We'll get to that.
- 9:55Speaker 2: We'll get into that.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Next episode that you may or may not listen to. Yeah.
- 9:59Speaker 3: So.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Well, anyway, that reminded people Spielberg's getting up there. So
- 10:05Speaker 1: go see his new movie if you want to see
- 10:06Speaker 1: a new Spielberg movie.
- 10:08Speaker 3: The Spielberg trailer, I hate it. Because it kept making
- 10:12Speaker 3: this weird clicking noise.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Which is, I think, part of the gimmick, I think.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Yeah, that really set off my non-diagnosed neurodivergency.
- 10:22Speaker 1: You've got a lot of problems. We know that. They
- 10:23Speaker 1: may not have been pinned down, but I, as someone
- 10:28Speaker 1: else who's undiagnosed, I diagnose myself with stuff all the time.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Sure, same here.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I may not be a doctor, but I do play
- 10:34Speaker 1: one on the internet. Yeah. It's a whole different story. Anyway, yeah. So, actually,
- 10:40Speaker 1: The Bride, I thought, looks really cool.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Did you get The Bride? Yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Okay.
- 10:45Speaker 1: No. Do you not? Well, yeah, but you're not cool.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I feel like it could go either way, though. Because
- 10:51Speaker 1: looking at it, I'm like, it seems like they're doing
- 10:53Speaker 1: a super unconventional version, so I like that. But watching
- 10:57Speaker 1: that trailer, I'm like, it's on the fence. It could
- 10:59Speaker 1: be awesome or wow, this doesn't land. So I don't
- 11:03Speaker 1: know how. I trust Maggie. I feel like I like
- 11:06Speaker 1: her choices in acting. So I'm interested to see what
- 11:09Speaker 1: she does as a director.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Yeah, same here.
- 11:11Speaker 1: But yeah, I feel like it really could go either way.
- 11:15Speaker 1: But I like that it's doing an unconventional version. I
- 11:17Speaker 1: just don't like what's-his-name.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Christian Bale?
- 11:20Speaker 3: Yes, thank you.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I mean, in the real world, I'll give you that.
- 11:23Speaker 1: On screen, he can be very effective. I don't like it.
- 11:27Speaker 1: As a person, I don't know. I'll give it a chance.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I don't know what to do with it.
- 11:32Speaker 3: We've talked many times about my love for Frankenstein and
- 11:35Speaker 3: the Bride of Frankenstein.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah. That's why I was like, weird that they're doing
- 11:40Speaker 1: this now. But I mean, every couple of years we
- 11:43Speaker 1: get another Frankenstein in some way, shape, or form. But
- 11:46Speaker 1: the fact that we had such an official... big budget,
- 11:49Speaker 1: main director kind of a thing, and then followed up
- 11:52Speaker 1: with another ride that's not at all like that one.
- 11:54Speaker 1: So I was like, this is interesting timing.
- 11:56Speaker 2: If nothing else. The one I'm really interested in is Hocum.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Did you see that one?
- 12:02Speaker 1: I saw. Spooky. Because that's, yeah, I mean, it's definitely
- 12:08Speaker 1: tapping into the weird folk horror, maybe almost creepypasta-esque in
- 12:15Speaker 1: the way it's attempting this. So yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 2: It's the director who did Oddity and Caveat, which are
- 12:22Speaker 2: like two of my favorite recent horror movies. And my
- 12:25Speaker 2: friend lives in LA and he actually went to an
- 12:27Speaker 2: advanced screening of it, but he signed an NDA so
- 12:30Speaker 2: he couldn't tell me anything. Other than that, it scared
- 12:32Speaker 2: the shit out of him.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Damn NDAs.
- 12:33Speaker 2: That I'm going to love it. Yeah. He was like,
- 12:36Speaker 2: you need to see this movie as soon as it
- 12:37Speaker 2: comes out because it's like made for you. So that
- 12:40Speaker 2: one I'm very excited for. It's scary.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I don't. I feel like the trailer didn't show a ton,
- 12:46Speaker 1: so I don't even know what all to expect. It
- 12:48Speaker 1: just looked like super creepy. So I'm like, all right,
- 12:51Speaker 1: we'll see.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I got a trailer that I don't, I'm saddened that
- 12:55Speaker 3: I don't remember the name of the movie because I
- 12:57Speaker 3: was like, I want to see this. But there's two
- 13:00Speaker 3: guys driving down a country road. One guy stops because
- 13:03Speaker 3: he has to pee and he gets back to the
- 13:04Speaker 3: car and the car is all torn up.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Passenger.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Thank you. I would like to see that.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know what that's about.
- 13:12Speaker 1: If you haven't seen the trailer, I guess we shouldn't.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Spoilers for the trailer, there's a jump scare.
- 13:18Speaker 3: There's a jump scare that I actually felt my heart
- 13:21Speaker 3: move in a different direction. And it scared the mom
- 13:25Speaker 3: and her... the three teenage girls that she had with
- 13:28Speaker 3: her that were right in front of me, they all jumped.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I mean, it was like on a TV show, popcorn.
- 13:34Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 1: The whole theater went, no, I'll go.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 1: So like, I was like, well, that worked. Whether or
- 13:40Speaker 1: not I was freaked out, everyone else was freaked out.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So I was like, all right, I'll give you that.
- 13:45Speaker 3: The mom actually turned and said to me, I can't
- 13:47Speaker 3: handle stuff like that.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And I said, don't worry. It got me too. You're like,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I can't handle talking to people. Stop. Yeah. Don't interact
- 13:55Speaker 1: with me, thank you.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder who's making that one or if it's
- 13:58Speaker 2: based on anything. I haven't heard anything about that.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I've heard people mention the name enough that I recognize
- 14:04Speaker 1: the name, but yeah, I haven't dug into it because
- 14:07Speaker 1: there's too many things. I can't keep up anymore.
- 14:10Speaker 2: No.
- 14:10Speaker 1: So many projects.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Passenger movie. It's Andre Overdahl. Wasn't he the guy who
- 14:17Speaker 2: did The Autopsy of Jane Doe?
- 14:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Oh, that was a good movie.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Which is good, yeah.
- 14:22Speaker 3: An odd movie, but a really good movie.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Creepy and sort of like slowly creepy like works itself
- 14:30Speaker 1: in you're like all right this is unnerving yeah.
- 14:32Speaker 3: That movie 10 minutes into it i'm like i'm gonna
- 14:35Speaker 3: hate this thing by the time it's over with it
- 14:36Speaker 3: by the time it was over with it was like
- 14:38Speaker 3: i'm scared.
- 14:38Speaker 4: It's such a good movie i don't know why i
- 14:41Speaker 4: decided to live in this morgue it's super creepy around
- 14:44Speaker 4: here so yeah that'll be fun i guess so many
- 14:50Speaker 4: future options that you can give us that are better
- 14:54Speaker 4: movies than scary movie.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Which is where originally I was going was don't assign
- 14:59Speaker 1: a scary movie. Please don't. I'm fine with horror comedy.
- 15:04Speaker 1: So that's my issuing is issue us a scary movie,
- 15:10Speaker 1: not specific title, that's a horror comedy that's legitimately good.
- 15:15Speaker 1: That's what I think you should assign us when you
- 15:17Speaker 1: sign up for the Meltdown Horror Club. Yeah. And then
- 15:20Speaker 1: you'll hear us say awesome things like this. I will
- 15:24Speaker 1: start off by saying, remember last Horror Club episode when
- 15:27Speaker 1: I went into my wrap-up at the end about what
- 15:30Speaker 1: we were going to see next and I said the
- 15:32Speaker 1: things that I said? Yeah, I kind of called it.
- 15:37Speaker 1: It starts off with a very cliffhanger-esque opening. So if
- 15:41Speaker 1: you know the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about.
- 15:44Speaker 1: If not, I won't ruin it for you.
- 15:45Speaker 3: They don't explain how? No.
- 15:49Speaker 1: But maybe that's for the past.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Turns out that this is just an old gypsy curse
- 15:53Speaker 3: that they've somehow put onto a phone app.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Okay.
- 15:57Speaker 3: And they spend all of about 20 seconds telling you
- 16:00Speaker 3: that and then just move right along with the plot.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Everybody's got an app.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Huh.
- 16:05Speaker 1: But then the more I got into it, I was like, truthfully,
- 16:07Speaker 1: I'd say most people would be way more afraid of
- 16:11Speaker 1: the premise of this movie than any slasher. You could
- 16:14Speaker 1: give them like, would you like to be in the
- 16:17Speaker 1: woods with Jason or this? And they would pick Jason
- 16:19Speaker 1: every time. So, yeah, it sets up a really interesting
- 16:24Speaker 1: game of, OK, now what do you do? Yeah. So
- 16:27Speaker 1: that becomes its own movie. I've said many a time,
- 16:30Speaker 1: there's certain movies that are just the, well, here's what
- 16:33Speaker 1: I would do that comes up every time you watch it,
- 16:36Speaker 1: every time you mention it to somebody else, then you
- 16:38Speaker 1: come into that conversation of like, well, what I would
- 16:40Speaker 1: do is. So this one doesn't leave you a whole
- 16:43Speaker 1: lot of options. So it's an interesting game of you're
- 16:47Speaker 1: surprised when they come up with another scenario and you're like, well,
- 16:51Speaker 1: it's this, right? Because you don't have any other options.
- 16:56Speaker 1: so that's the thing i'm like will i never watch
- 16:58Speaker 1: this again i'll probably watch it again will i be
- 17:01Speaker 1: continually angered at the same things probably but yeah that's
- 17:05Speaker 1: my thing most of the way through i'm still like
- 17:08Speaker 1: all right this is cool this is fine i might
- 17:10Speaker 1: be questioning this decision but it's all good but eventually
- 17:14Speaker 1: i was just like damn it kevin.
- 17:17Speaker 2: So the Silence of the Lambs Buffalo Bills house, you
- 17:20Speaker 2: can rent on Airbnb because I thought about doing it
- 17:23Speaker 2: for a honeymoon.
- 17:25Speaker 1: This is why we like you.
- 17:27Speaker 2: And the Stu's house, you can also rent on Airbnb.
- 17:29Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say. This is a
- 17:30Speaker 1: real thing.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Which is cool. But I can't imagine if actual people
- 17:34Speaker 2: were actually murdered there, especially because there's the 90s murders,
- 17:38Speaker 2: but then the more recent ones.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:41Speaker 2: That would actually be an okay thing to do.
- 17:43Speaker 3: There's got to be somebody that would be into that.
- 17:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure can't you um go stay at the
- 17:50Speaker 1: lizzie borden.
- 17:50Speaker 2: House yeah but that feels like i mean it's a
- 17:53Speaker 2: long time.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Ago so that makes it okay i guess but yeah
- 17:56Speaker 1: it was like five years ago it would probably be
- 18:00Speaker 1: an issue for some people but again horror people are
- 18:04Speaker 1: hardcore so like some of them get into that so
- 18:08Speaker 1: yeah people.
- 18:11Speaker 2: But she's talking on the phone with him in five.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And she mentions Mark, so I assume.
- 18:17Speaker 1: So we all assume it's the same guy.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Patrick Dempsey.
- 18:20Speaker 1: She just likes Mark. That's what I think is weird.
- 18:23Speaker 2: He's also a cop.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Well, we all have a type.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Everything.
- 18:27Speaker 1: But that was the part that I think is like, okay,
- 18:30Speaker 1: I'd say this is lazy writing, but you're the one
- 18:32Speaker 1: doing the writing, and you wrote the other... So... Actually,
- 18:37Speaker 1: he didn't write three, at least. I'll give him that.
- 18:39Speaker 5: But....
- 18:41Speaker 1: The fact that the whole point of three is like,
- 18:43Speaker 1: she's like walled herself off and she's not around people,
- 18:46Speaker 1: but she like, finally that's the, the story arc. That's
- 18:50Speaker 1: her character growth. And the third one is she finds
- 18:52Speaker 1: a way to get past all of this trauma and
- 18:55Speaker 1: like open herself up and be like, okay, so I'm,
- 18:58Speaker 1: I'm going to be okay with having a life and
- 19:01Speaker 1: being with someone. And this guy's kind of proven himself
- 19:04Speaker 1: to me to a, not be a murderer and B
- 19:07Speaker 1: seemed to like genuinely be interested in me as a
- 19:09Speaker 1: person and So I've allowed myself to be attached to
- 19:12Speaker 1: this person. And then that didn't work out. So I
- 19:16Speaker 1: immediately hooked up with another dude because it has to
- 19:19Speaker 1: be pretty close to the same time period because her
- 19:21Speaker 1: daughter's that age. So that fell apart and you immediately
- 19:25Speaker 1: went with another dude named Mark who has kind of
- 19:27Speaker 1: the same job. That's all very convenient, Kevin.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Well, and I assumed like.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Such a nerd. I'm going to blame Kevin for a
- 19:35Speaker 1: lot of things. I just watch that stuff and go, yeah.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Sometimes it looks cool depending on the extreme activity you're doing.
- 19:43Speaker 1: But for the most part, I go, yeah, that looks
- 19:45Speaker 1: like a bad idea.
- 19:46Speaker 3: I mean, I'll get on an escalator.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Not. an elevator, but an escalator. You can escape at least.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Even then, the ones that go like super high, it's scary.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Like, I know it's not going to be him, but
- 19:59Speaker 1: I don't like him anyway.
- 20:01Speaker 3: So I was not upset that he got dead.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Well, but he took a long time. He was busy
- 20:06Speaker 1: being a creep the whole movie.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I think like a thing that one of the things
- 20:12Speaker 2: that bothered me about this one was like the combination
- 20:16Speaker 2: of not having that character development. So the kills just
- 20:21Speaker 2: felt kind of mean.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:24Speaker 2: And the way that they were so gory and stuff,
- 20:27Speaker 2: like I was like, oh, that's not really fun because
- 20:31Speaker 2: I don't know a lot about them, but I feel
- 20:33Speaker 2: bad for them. And especially when it's like, I won't
- 20:36Speaker 2: get into who the ghost face is yet, but they're
- 20:38Speaker 2: both adults, middle-aged adults, just like killing a bunch of
- 20:42Speaker 2: 16 and 17 year olds in like really gory ways.
- 20:45Speaker 1: And one's really a questionable decision. Yay. We'll get to
- 20:48Speaker 1: that later too. But if you gave me a spinoff
- 20:52Speaker 1: movie with just these two, I'm on board. Yeah. Like,
- 20:55Speaker 1: give me, I don't care if they're even dealing with Ghostface.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Go do paranormal investigations and go find some other, go
- 21:00Speaker 1: find ghosts and stuff. They could be looking for buried treasure.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I would watch the hell out of that. Like, I
- 21:06Speaker 1: love their dynamic. I really like the two of them.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Both of the actors are amazing.
- 21:13Speaker 3: You know, at first I was like, okay. You know,
- 21:16Speaker 3: I didn't know how, because we've talked about it before.
- 21:19Speaker 3: And I always kind of thought the theory was kind of,
- 21:21Speaker 3: I mean, a TV landed on his head. You know,
- 21:24Speaker 3: but then when he shows up. And a 90s TV,
- 21:27Speaker 3: not a now TV. Now TV, you'd be like, ow,
- 21:29Speaker 3: quit it. 90s TV will crush your skull. But when
- 21:34Speaker 3: he showed up, I was like, okay, let's see how
- 21:37Speaker 3: this goes. But what would happen is every time they'd
- 21:41Speaker 3: have him, they'd build him up. It's okay, what's he
- 21:43Speaker 3: going to do now? And they totally changed the subject.
- 21:47Speaker 3: He'd disappear for half an hour.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Yeah i was happy to see him yeah that was
- 21:51Speaker 1: my real world is like man i love matthew willard
- 21:53Speaker 1: yes bring him on so like her saying that when
- 21:58Speaker 1: like she spent definitely those first three movies of like
- 22:01Speaker 1: i don't want to talk about it i don't want
- 22:03Speaker 1: to deal with it i don't want eventually she wrote
- 22:05Speaker 1: the book but you'd also like by the fourth one
- 22:07Speaker 1: she was kind of like but now it's in the
- 22:09Speaker 1: book i'm done and she's since spent the last two
- 22:12Speaker 1: movies so it seems trying to get away from all
- 22:14Speaker 1: that so like it it seems out of character for
- 22:17Speaker 1: her to be like, hey, check out all my product
- 22:19Speaker 1: out there. You know, like that's a weird move for
- 22:22Speaker 1: Sydney to make when she spent her whole life being like,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I hate those stupid stab movies. I don't like people
- 22:28Speaker 1: talking about me. So it's like the fact that she
- 22:30Speaker 1: told her daughter, yeah, just go read that nonsense on
- 22:33Speaker 1: the internet and see what you think about me. I'm like,
- 22:35Speaker 1: that's a weird comment for her to make. Well, first
- 22:39Speaker 1: of all, she's already trying to sneak out. And I'm
- 22:42Speaker 1: just like, then it cuts to him like talking on
- 22:44Speaker 1: the phone. I'm like, okay, if I were you, first
- 22:47Speaker 1: of all, being who you're married to, being a cop,
- 22:51Speaker 1: and knowing the circumstances that are going on in the
- 22:54Speaker 1: last day, my daughter would not be out of my sight.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Let alone... She wandered off, she took off out of
- 23:01Speaker 1: the house, and then you're just like yelling her name,
- 23:03Speaker 1: don't know where she is. And I'm like, especially in
- 23:05Speaker 1: a house that has a big open hole in the
- 23:08Speaker 1: front of it, so it seems. They're doing that half-ass
- 23:13Speaker 1: remodel where you make the garage a room, which is
- 23:15Speaker 1: always a bad idea.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:17Speaker 1: And like the heat and air never works in that room,
- 23:20Speaker 1: and the insulation sucks, and you've got a garage door
- 23:22Speaker 1: in the front of it usually.
- 23:24Speaker 3: What was all the plastic protecting in the garage?
- 23:26Speaker 1: Yeah. So that ghosts can show up on the other side. Oh, no, wait,
- 23:30Speaker 1: that's the last movie we watched. Home Renovation 101. Put
- 23:34Speaker 1: up plastic so that spooky things can be on the
- 23:36Speaker 1: other side.
- 23:37Speaker 3: It just seemed like it'd make it harder for the
- 23:39Speaker 3: construction crew to get around in the garage.
- 23:41Speaker 1: I mean, it really is the same question I asked
- 23:43Speaker 1: the last movie. What is this doing? Why is there
- 23:46Speaker 1: plastic hanging up?
- 23:46Speaker 3: Maybe that was the job. Maybe Joel McHale was like,
- 23:49Speaker 3: you know what? I could use some plastic sheeting in
- 23:50Speaker 3: this garage.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Doesn't look creepy enough. Could you guys put up some plastic?
- 23:54Speaker 2: Protect that plywood.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Exposed to boards by the third one it becomes here's
- 24:02Speaker 1: a bunch of red herrings where it's just scooby-doo style
- 24:05Speaker 1: it's like here's three to four people it probably could
- 24:09Speaker 1: be they all have good reasons it could be them
- 24:11Speaker 1: if we wanted to go down that road and then
- 24:14Speaker 1: it's like they just pull it out of a.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Hat that's ptsd baby yeah you would think.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I feel like we dropped all of them yeah it's
- 24:24Speaker 1: not really any reason like cgi is a thing and
- 24:29Speaker 1: deep fakes people do that stuff right but i'm like
- 24:32Speaker 1: but what's your what's the comment like normally there's a
- 24:35Speaker 1: commentary of some sort going on yeah i don't feel
- 24:39Speaker 1: and again this is the same guy who came up
- 24:41Speaker 1: with the commentary the first time around and over the
- 24:44Speaker 1: years so like why now is it just like yeah murdering.
- 24:48Speaker 5: People and stuff i don't know like I think they
- 24:51Speaker 5: tried to kind of make it about Sydney and final
- 24:55Speaker 5: girls and traumatizing your daughter enough that now she'll be
- 24:58Speaker 5: the new final girl.
- 24:59Speaker 2: And, but again, it didn't hit.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Like her friends would say like movies about her. Why
- 25:09Speaker 1: would you, why would you not know about it? But like,
- 25:11Speaker 1: it's weird for Sydney to say that.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Just from a character standpoint, which again, you came up
- 25:17Speaker 1: with the character, Kevin, what are you doing? Every day
- 25:21Speaker 1: could be your last, so you better make the best
- 25:24Speaker 1: of it.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Well, what a lesson.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Isn't it, though? Isn't that deep, y'all? Yeah. No, no.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Go to MovieMeltdown.com, click on the button right there on
- 25:33Speaker 1: the right-hand side, and you can join the club and
- 25:36Speaker 1: give us a better movie than Scary Movie, which is
- 25:40Speaker 1: a pretty low bar, so come on, man.
