- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, folks, walk them into the Irish Series podcast. As
- 0:07Speaker 1: we get through the first week all Steeers camp that's
- 0:10Speaker 1: at Business College, Michael mcquad is allowed to be joined
- 0:13Speaker 1: by Dave McKay this week. Dave could have seen.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Don well Michael enjoyed the family Wadden got Itok, I
- 0:20Speaker 2: missed out in the last week.
- 0:21Speaker 3: But it's fantastic prot you back.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I've got a few more autographs on the streets and stuff,
- 0:26Speaker 2: you know, so just pushing the brofight out there.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It was funny, like you know, it's the Yeah, we
- 0:32Speaker 1: definitely missed you last week. That that was a great
- 0:34Speaker 1: chat with Mark and just great to reminisce on that
- 0:37Speaker 1: game in ninety seven. That is funny because even though
- 0:39Speaker 1: while we were reminiscing on ninety seven, the Steelers themselves
- 0:43Speaker 1: started training camp. You started around the same day, Dave.
- 0:46Speaker 1: So I know you're telling me off camera that you've
- 0:48Speaker 1: been following it like I have religiously hear how much
- 0:52Speaker 1: crack does since Vincent College look like? Just when the
- 0:54Speaker 1: players walked down, have you seen the tichtoks of candy
- 0:57Speaker 1: piket people signing toilet seats and stuff. It looks like
- 1:00Speaker 1: crag isn't.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It looks unbelievable with TJ watch sign and babased and everything.
- 1:04Speaker 2: It's actually amazing, Like it's definitely on the bucket list
- 1:07Speaker 2: for us, you know, fingers crossed.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Someday we'll get out there.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And we mentioned there about the status pre season game
- 1:13Speaker 1: and Arland the anniversary last week, looking forward to this
- 1:15Speaker 1: year stagers first preseason game because is against the Books
- 1:19Speaker 1: Friday night Saturday morning for US twelve of August, and
- 1:22Speaker 1: we'll talk about that in the near future. Training camp
- 1:24Speaker 1: goes on until the seventeenth of August at Saint Vincent
- 1:28Speaker 1: College and anybody lucky enough to be based in the States,
- 1:31Speaker 1: you can check out staeters dot com slash training I
- 1:34Speaker 1: think camp for more information. But for now, if you're
- 1:37Speaker 1: in Ireland, if you're in the UK, Europe, you can
- 1:39Speaker 1: listen to us talk about training camp. We're gonna hear
- 1:41Speaker 1: from a player Dave today, but that's let's really just
- 1:44Speaker 1: you go around what's happening, because not just in the NFL,
- 1:47Speaker 1: there's so much happening in the league this week, I
- 1:50Speaker 1: feel that we need to start up with some elements
- 1:52Speaker 1: is going around camp. We're about a weekend at the
- 1:55Speaker 1: time of recording. Did you see that George Pickens catch
- 1:58Speaker 1: at the start of this week where Joey Porter Jr.
- 2:01Speaker 1: He was mastered up begins, but that that one hand
- 2:04Speaker 1: grab was unbelievable and it makes you think what sort
- 2:09Speaker 1: of seasons Pickings gonna have.
- 2:11Speaker 2: You know, what's sports jor you know, I am think
- 2:13Speaker 2: sitting there thinking this is not the welcome I.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Want to the NFL.
- 2:18Speaker 2: He's he'll be okay, Yeah, he'll he'll be fine, But
- 2:22Speaker 2: haven't said that, you know, George Pickens. You know, he's
- 2:24Speaker 2: made the headlines this week, Megal, I don't know if
- 2:25Speaker 2: you heard he called himself the best receiver in football.
- 2:28Speaker 2: He's maybe backed it up a bit with that catch.
- 2:30Speaker 2: It's certainly got the the Odell back in vibes. But yeah,
- 2:33Speaker 2: I was blown away by that. It's just the sort
- 2:34Speaker 2: of things that we want to see coming into training
- 2:36Speaker 2: camp and hopefully there's a preview four going forward.
- 2:40Speaker 3: And although when it did here, you know, he said
- 2:42Speaker 3: he's going to be the best receiver in football.
- 2:44Speaker 2: It's well, maybe not now time to back it up,
- 2:46Speaker 2: but in a couple of weeks time, it certainly is
- 2:48Speaker 2: time to back up he will. I think that's That's
- 2:50Speaker 2: the real thing that you'd love to hear though from guys,
- 2:52Speaker 2: especially like Pickings going into the second year, like the
- 2:56Speaker 2: confidence that he has to be able in the second
- 2:59Speaker 2: year to coit. You know, how he values himself in
- 3:02Speaker 2: that position in the league, for me, really speaks volumes
- 3:05Speaker 2: not just to him but to this entire team going ahead.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And I know we're going to talk about this downa stretch,
- 3:10Speaker 2: but yeah, I'm I'm really really pumped to see what
- 3:13Speaker 2: he can do and I'm really interested to see the
- 3:15Speaker 2: connection that he's going to develop with Kenny over just
- 3:17Speaker 2: over the season.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So certainly for me, yeah, I get I get it completely.
- 3:21Speaker 1: It's like you're like, oh, please, don't say that it's
- 3:24Speaker 1: early death. Man, say it. Believe it. I think if
- 3:27Speaker 1: you say, you believe it, and you can certainly achieve
- 3:29Speaker 1: it at that position with the Seeders, So please God.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And a couple of not negative things, but sad things
- 3:35Speaker 1: always going to happen in different camps. We've seen it
- 3:37Speaker 1: around the league, players out for considerable periods or out
- 3:40Speaker 1: for the season. We've seen running back offense with Graham
- 3:43Speaker 1: Is out of the year with shoulder injury that could
- 3:45Speaker 1: have been a big blow to the position of death there.
- 3:48Speaker 1: But they have brought in different guys.
- 3:50Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:50Speaker 1: You look at how Adan the McFarland junior has progressed
- 3:55Speaker 1: over the last few days and there's still many positives there.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And I know, I know we'll talk bit Naugy in
- 4:00Speaker 1: a minute, but you're going to see these incidents happen
- 4:03Speaker 1: and we hope for alfonsis seek that he can check
- 4:05Speaker 1: this night and come back that that's all you want
- 4:08Speaker 1: to see.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a massive blow obviously, you know, having a
- 4:12Speaker 2: season en and injury before the season starts, you know,
- 4:14Speaker 2: first then in the camp and you know it's just
- 4:17Speaker 2: never nice to hear. And now all he needed to
- 4:19Speaker 2: do is settle down and have a long look at
- 4:21Speaker 2: him improving, you know, with with with surgery and stuff.
- 4:25Speaker 2: And he's going to get all the support he can
- 4:26Speaker 2: from the fans certainly, and we're all behind him of course,
- 4:29Speaker 2: but I'll just say, you know, next guy up. You
- 4:32Speaker 2: know Atony mcfornland, I heard hearing very good things about
- 4:34Speaker 2: him and training calp Burleie Michael, I don't know, but
- 4:37Speaker 2: if you've heard about it yourself, but he's improving.
- 4:39Speaker 3: He's one of the main key points if you like.
- 4:43Speaker 2: And obviously with Nauj we know how good he is again,
- 4:46Speaker 2: but you know, it's just looking like we're just going
- 4:49Speaker 2: to have to knuckle down and enforce that running back
- 4:51Speaker 2: position even more because we know how important it is.
- 4:53Speaker 2: You know, you mengined about your bold reduction a few
- 4:55Speaker 2: weeks ago. He's going to break the single season rushing yards.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Fingers crossed. I was it can come the truth again,
- 5:02Speaker 2: it's always with next man up when there is injuries
- 5:04Speaker 2: and stuff fingers crossed, then it won't have too much
- 5:06Speaker 2: of a doptor on the team.
- 5:07Speaker 3: And we all, obviously with all fans of.
- 5:10Speaker 1: The best in the recovery, absolutely mad and by all
- 5:13Speaker 1: just in terms of what you're saying there, Darius Haggens Higgins,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna say Higgen is superior to rona Irish name
- 5:18Speaker 1: there on, drafted free agent, the same as a fonse
- 5:21Speaker 1: of great. He has been said to be a guy
- 5:23Speaker 1: to watch him camp. He scored a touchdown on Tuesday
- 5:26Speaker 1: in camp, So here I'm all in and as you said,
- 5:29Speaker 1: now as you're looking good. They had a seventh shots
- 5:31Speaker 1: drill at the start of the week and he scored
- 5:33Speaker 1: touchdowns on the first two play. It's not bad. We've
- 5:37Speaker 1: seen the on drafted free agent. I'm not going to
- 5:40Speaker 1: pronounce months name property. I'll give it a go. I
- 5:43Speaker 1: love this when it comes to draft season. Monte he
- 5:46Speaker 1: retired on Tuesday, which was interesting. We obviously wish him
- 5:51Speaker 1: the very very best. I mean that now looks like
- 5:53Speaker 1: you you're you're looking at a situation there where Conor
- 5:56Speaker 1: Heyward is going to be the full back option this
- 5:58Speaker 1: season going forward, but more did where he tries the
- 6:01Speaker 1: quarterback has him put on ir today and that ends
- 6:04Speaker 1: of season. The look he was a seventh round pick.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But I guess you know, the positive for fans long
- 6:10Speaker 1: term is there is a lot of expectation for Corey.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Had a lot of positive thoughts around him and what
- 6:15Speaker 1: he can be able to do. And we just hope
- 6:17Speaker 1: that going forward he can recover quickly and and and
- 6:20Speaker 1: just come back this year and kill him.
- 6:22Speaker 3: But obviously you imagined there.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I'll just come back to the fallowback first, and yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 2: Monty Patty obviously he was drafted just on the Saturday,
- 6:30Speaker 2: I think, and obviously early retirement stuff.
- 6:33Speaker 3: It's a bit of a spanner in the words if.
- 6:34Speaker 2: You're like, but maybe he possibly looked took one look
- 6:37Speaker 2: at the camp and just thought, look, this isn't for me,
- 6:39Speaker 2: which is fair enough.
- 6:40Speaker 3: The only thing we can do is sort of wish
- 6:41Speaker 3: him all the best and whatever he wants to do.
- 6:43Speaker 2: And Connor Heyward again another guy that's it's it's coming
- 6:48Speaker 2: across very well in camp so far.
- 6:50Speaker 3: He's going to have to step up to the plate now.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Obviously more room in not follow back room, and as
- 6:55Speaker 2: well as that, I say, but it's a good tour.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Own name as well. We're going to call him Darius Hagen. Suppose.
- 6:58Speaker 2: The main thing is, especially with these undrafted rookies and Michael,
- 7:02Speaker 2: they're not coming in with this massive expectation, so they
- 7:05Speaker 2: can sort of fly under the radar and hopefully then
- 7:07Speaker 2: they can press coach t Obviously you mentioned they're obviously
- 7:10Speaker 2: about Nage. I'll just come back to Nauga very quickly.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I think maybe one of the reasons you imagined that
- 7:13Speaker 2: he scored a touchdown the first two possessions, if you like,
- 7:16Speaker 2: I think I heard in training camp. I'll be interesting
- 7:19Speaker 2: to find out because I heard Darnell Washington and he's
- 7:21Speaker 2: made a massive obviously the first day of pods was yesterday.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I've heard Donell Washington's made a massive impact on be
- 7:27Speaker 2: interested to know did he sort of play any part
- 7:29Speaker 2: in that, because apparently, you know, with with with Alex Highsmith,
- 7:32Speaker 2: he's come out and said, you know, he's his first
- 7:34Speaker 2: impressions of him. Obviously he's sort of got a few
- 7:36Speaker 2: raps with him. He's come out and he said that
- 7:39Speaker 2: he was blown away by like how actually big he is.
- 7:42Speaker 2: And and this is actually range of blockings. So there's
- 7:46Speaker 2: a lot of good stories coming out of training camp
- 7:47Speaker 2: at this stage. And obviously with the pods being on
- 7:50Speaker 2: now we're going to get a bit more physical as
- 7:52Speaker 2: the day's tech bay. So yeah, long may continue, and
- 7:55Speaker 2: obviously we can can obviously hear more good stories coming
- 7:57Speaker 2: out day by day.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and just to run it up real quick sort
- 8:01Speaker 1: of recap with camp so far this week. You can
- 8:03Speaker 1: get great covers folks across Steers Viition Radio, on the Steelers'
- 8:06Speaker 1: website and ops as well. Dude, check it out, not
- 8:09Speaker 1: just this podcast, and we'll hopefully get some people on
- 8:12Speaker 1: that we who are at s Vincent's over the next
- 8:14Speaker 1: feeks as well, not just players, but all of us
- 8:16Speaker 1: as well. We've seen today, like just wrap up, you know,
- 8:19Speaker 1: is there anything else that takes your pick from training
- 8:21Speaker 1: camp so far? Did we've seen today? Again it's saying
- 8:24Speaker 1: Anthony McFarlane starting to do very well in camp, but
- 8:27Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett throwing good balls and confidence. We've seen Peter
- 8:30Speaker 1: Schrieger this morning on Good Morning Football saying that he
- 8:34Speaker 1: believes that they have got a franchise guy and Kenny
- 8:37Speaker 1: Pickett from what he has seen so far. And my
- 8:40Speaker 1: guy Baldi, Brian Bollinger is over at camp as well
- 8:44Speaker 1: at the minute in Sams's College, and I just know
- 8:46Speaker 1: what they're really really impressed by the way that the
- 8:49Speaker 1: Steelers team is starting to get set up and it
- 8:51Speaker 1: gives a lot of promise going forward.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I'll just say, you know, with with with brother Jones
- 8:55Speaker 2: as another example, he's he's had a few first team
- 8:58Speaker 2: wraps so far and a lot of you know, good
- 9:01Speaker 2: positive feedback with with with Broderick coming in so like
- 9:04Speaker 2: obviously another ones, Nick Herbig. You know, we we spoke
- 9:07Speaker 2: them out about it in the podcast a few weeks ago.
- 9:09Speaker 2: We're very intrigued. He's another guy that's making a massive impact,
- 9:12Speaker 2: apparently very tactically Savvey and TJ. Watton had done an
- 9:16Speaker 2: interview as well earlier on in the week, saying about
- 9:20Speaker 2: how he's been, you know, spend a lot of time
- 9:22Speaker 2: with Nick, you know, you know, sort of teaching him,
- 9:25Speaker 2: you know, hand drills and stuff like that, just trying
- 9:27Speaker 2: to sort of adapt to like what it's going to
- 9:29Speaker 2: be like to come up against an offensive lineman, you know,
- 9:31Speaker 2: an NFL offensive linemans.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Again with you know, with the rookies, it's all very
- 9:34Speaker 3: good positive stories.
- 9:36Speaker 2: It really is all about just helping that, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 2: the young guys along and obviously with you know, the
- 9:41Speaker 2: veteran guys, they're going to be there to obviously help
- 9:43Speaker 2: them along and teach them every rule they can't teach
- 9:45Speaker 2: them obviously, how to become a professional, all these sorts
- 9:48Speaker 2: of good things, and it's all going to come hopefully
- 9:50Speaker 2: to fruition by the end of training camp.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Absolutely in focus. You can keep up to date with
- 9:53Speaker 1: training camp on the Staters social media at the Staters,
- 9:56Speaker 1: Ardland on social media, also on Twitter, Instagram, on TikTok
- 10:01Speaker 1: Alice said previously, check outsitters dot com, Staters Nation Radio
- 10:04Speaker 1: a different podcasts for up to tap analysis from Saint
- 10:08Speaker 1: Vincent College. As training camp rolls on, We're delighted to
- 10:11Speaker 1: speak with a member of the Stadors organization, I punter
- 10:15Speaker 1: Presley Harvin, who joins us on the Irish Theaters podcast. Okay,
- 10:21Speaker 1: on the Irish Theaters Podcast. We're delighted to listen and
- 10:24Speaker 1: welcome Presley Harvin, Staters punter through the podcast. Presley, welcome
- 10:29Speaker 1: in on.
- 10:29Speaker 4: How you do good Man? Decided to be here, you know,
- 10:32Speaker 4: right in training camp right now, getting some work in,
- 10:34Speaker 4: just you know, just ready to get back to it
- 10:36Speaker 4: this year.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Man, brilliant to here and look it's been great, even
- 10:39Speaker 1: just thousands of miles away. Prossley's seeing what it looks
- 10:42Speaker 1: like on social media. What's the vibe been like soabar
- 10:46Speaker 1: Rouins and Benson College and how this training camp being
- 10:49Speaker 1: for you?
- 10:49Speaker 4: So far? It's been good man, you know, just being
- 10:52Speaker 4: able to be wrecked around everybody on the team. Just excited.
- 10:55Speaker 4: I'll get back to work going into the second week
- 10:57Speaker 4: of practice now. Finally got full pads on a couple
- 10:59Speaker 4: of days ago, and you know, just excited. Uh, you
- 11:02Speaker 4: know this year is going to be a little bit different,
- 11:04Speaker 4: got a different team again, but you know, just being
- 11:07Speaker 4: up there at Saint Vincent and UH and then training camp.
- 11:09Speaker 4: You just get the opportunity to really you know, understand
- 11:12Speaker 4: where everybody is in their journey, you know, get to
- 11:14Speaker 4: know some new people, uh and just really get that
- 11:17Speaker 4: little camaraderie of you know, doing a training camp somewhere
- 11:20Speaker 4: that's off site UL uh then rather in the South
- 11:23Speaker 4: Side facilities. You know, you get a sense of you know,
- 11:26Speaker 4: every single day you have to kind of live together
- 11:27Speaker 4: a little bit, which you know, you don't really get
- 11:29Speaker 4: that experience in the NFL side all anymore. So you know,
- 11:32Speaker 4: it's just really really good. You know, I'm extremely excited
- 11:35Speaker 4: for this year, putting it together as we speak, and
- 11:38Speaker 4: you know, I just feel like this team is going
- 11:39Speaker 4: to be able to make an extremely good run next year.
- 11:41Speaker 4: You know, it's just it's all starts here and you know,
- 11:44Speaker 4: just really into that rhythm at this point. Got this
- 11:47Speaker 4: first preseason game coming up next week, and you know,
- 11:50Speaker 4: we're just really getting ourselves.
- 11:51Speaker 5: Prepared for this upcoming battle the ship crazy as as
- 11:54Speaker 5: a massive fears saign my sounds. I'm particularly excited about
- 11:58Speaker 5: that that preseason game, even though here in our we
- 12:01Speaker 5: won't be able to watch it live. But not have
- 12:03Speaker 5: to watch it the next day. But you know, you're
- 12:05Speaker 5: going into your third year and now I as a
- 12:07Speaker 5: member of the Pittsburgh Sitters, how are you developing as
- 12:09Speaker 5: a punter year on year in the league.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's one of those things. It's kind
- 12:14Speaker 4: of like a learning curve. Uh, when you're a rookie,
- 12:16Speaker 4: you really don't know what to expect sometimes, especially when
- 12:19Speaker 4: you come into the trade camp and try to understand things.
- 12:21Speaker 4: But you know, I got two years under my belt now,
- 12:24Speaker 4: extremely focused on what I have to do and you
- 12:26Speaker 4: know what I have to really provide on the field
- 12:28Speaker 4: for our defense to be able to go out and
- 12:29Speaker 4: have bid field position and also belt out the offense.
- 12:32Speaker 4: And you know, just excited to be able to put
- 12:35Speaker 4: my hard work from the offseason back on display this year.
- 12:38Speaker 4: I've grown a lot mentally throughout my time here, and
- 12:41Speaker 4: you know, just at this point, I really have a
- 12:44Speaker 4: really good aspect of you know, what's really expected and
- 12:47Speaker 4: the best way is to do that. And you know,
- 12:49Speaker 4: I'm just putting some more artillery in my bag to
- 12:51Speaker 4: be able to whenever my name's called, to stand up
- 12:53Speaker 4: to the occasion.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Presently, Coach Tomlin, what was your first impression of coach
- 12:57Speaker 3: Tomlin and what impact would you say ishiding your career.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Maybe that's far.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean the terminology and the mental side of
- 13:05Speaker 4: the game is what I really can say that I've
- 13:06Speaker 4: learned a lot from. He is a very very diverse
- 13:10Speaker 4: person when it comes to you know, always having the
- 13:14Speaker 4: same type of expectation on you, but also showing it
- 13:17Speaker 4: in the coaching side and then the classroom side. You know,
- 13:20Speaker 4: it's just a little bit different than you know, he
- 13:21Speaker 4: stands right next to us when we're in the punk period,
- 13:24Speaker 4: just making us feel the pressure in that moment a
- 13:26Speaker 4: little bit, but also not just allowing the pressure to
- 13:29Speaker 4: just fold us. You know, he wants us to be
- 13:31Speaker 4: ready for every single different situation we'll be able to
- 13:34Speaker 4: be in. We start with the hard stuff on punt
- 13:35Speaker 4: first and you know, work away from there, and you know,
- 13:38Speaker 4: being in those situations in practice and knowing that he
- 13:40Speaker 4: does everything intentionally, you know, it makes you really think
- 13:43Speaker 4: about you know, when you start practicing parter than the
- 13:46Speaker 4: game should be, you're playing really good football. And you
- 13:49Speaker 4: know people might think he's a little bit laid back,
- 13:51Speaker 4: but I don't see it as a laid back thing.
- 13:53Speaker 4: I see it as a you know, he says his
- 13:55Speaker 4: part and he just wants to see what's on display
- 13:58Speaker 4: and then go from there. And I think that's the
- 13:59Speaker 4: big thing that I've really learned from him. It's just
- 14:02Speaker 4: the mental side of it. You know, I came into
- 14:05Speaker 4: it as a rookie, didn't really know the NFL was
- 14:08Speaker 4: such different than college. A lot of people really don't
- 14:10Speaker 4: understand that until they get it into training camp and
- 14:12Speaker 4: get into the preseason. But you know, he's been a
- 14:15Speaker 4: big help throughout the entire way. I've grown a lot
- 14:18Speaker 4: on the mental side of this game, and you know,
- 14:20Speaker 4: really have a fair chance with myself being able to
- 14:23Speaker 4: do this for a longer period of times. Just more
- 14:26Speaker 4: and more information I can continue to just get from
- 14:28Speaker 4: him and just feed into myself and put it in
- 14:30Speaker 4: my everyday life, not even just off on the field,
- 14:33Speaker 4: but also off the field. You know, he has to
- 14:35Speaker 4: saying that pressure is forever relevant you rather feeling it
- 14:37Speaker 4: or applying it. That's just about everything and every aspect
- 14:40Speaker 4: in life. That's not just a football play. So you know,
- 14:43Speaker 4: just things like that, you really get in the chance
- 14:46Speaker 4: to be in team meetings every night hearing his little
- 14:49Speaker 4: bit of his two cents of what he wants us
- 14:51Speaker 4: to really get from what that day was. And you know,
- 14:53Speaker 4: I just continue to keep putting together and always have
- 14:55Speaker 4: my mental thoughts on my head of you know, staying
- 14:58Speaker 4: in the moment, staying in the gain and doing enough
- 15:01Speaker 4: to win and not trying to be perfectly going to
- 15:03Speaker 4: the field. That's just some of the type of stuff
- 15:05Speaker 4: that he really puts out there for us to you know,
- 15:07Speaker 4: really understand. And you know, I'm a visual learner, so
- 15:10Speaker 4: you know, being on a football team and also having
- 15:13Speaker 4: film stuff like that, I visualize the moments that I
- 15:15Speaker 4: was supposed to be in in the game, but also
- 15:18Speaker 4: the practice reps I have to make sure count the
- 15:20Speaker 4: same way. So you know, it's just it changed my
- 15:22Speaker 4: perspective on how to practice. It changed my perspective of
- 15:26Speaker 4: how to really think about life. And you know, that's
- 15:28Speaker 4: just truly what this entire thing is about. And I
- 15:30Speaker 4: truly believe that he really wants everybody to be a
- 15:33Speaker 4: better person on and off the field.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Led to believe presently that you had the opportunity to
- 15:37Speaker 1: visit Frankfurt, Germany and and also France this offseason. I'm
- 15:41Speaker 1: sure you've seen even as a player last year. How
- 15:43Speaker 1: big that game was in Munich. How was your experience
- 15:48Speaker 1: in Europe and especially Germany, and how would you like
- 15:51Speaker 1: to someday as a player with his theaters maybe return
- 15:54Speaker 1: to Europe to play a game itself.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Yeah, it was an extremely well experienced man. I had
- 15:59Speaker 4: a great time. Me and my girlfriend went to Germany
- 16:02Speaker 4: because she actually went to high school there in Frankfurt,
- 16:05Speaker 4: so we were there for a couple of days, got
- 16:06Speaker 4: to see her life a little bit from where she
- 16:09Speaker 4: came from when she was going out of high school.
- 16:12Speaker 4: And you know, it was honestly a little bit of
- 16:13Speaker 4: a culture shock at first, and never been that far
- 16:15Speaker 4: away from home, first time in Europe. But it was
- 16:17Speaker 4: a really really good experience. Man, We had a great time.
- 16:20Speaker 4: I did realize that there is a lot of walking
- 16:22Speaker 4: that people do, especially in Germany. They don't care if
- 16:25Speaker 4: it's rain, and they don't care if it's snow, and
- 16:27Speaker 4: they're all, you know, outdoors and having a good time.
- 16:30Speaker 4: So it was a little bit away from home, but
- 16:32Speaker 4: it was a good away from home because I was
- 16:34Speaker 4: able to get a little bit of understanding of the
- 16:36Speaker 4: culture of the daily life and you know, just kind
- 16:40Speaker 4: of see how other people live life too. You know,
- 16:41Speaker 4: I just always wanted to be a person that just
- 16:44Speaker 4: learned more about the history from other places. History is
- 16:46Speaker 4: my favorite subject, so you know, always seeing stuff about
- 16:49Speaker 4: Germany and also Paris too, about all of the history
- 16:52Speaker 4: those two places have. And you know, it was a
- 16:55Speaker 4: really really good experience. I had a great time. I
- 16:57Speaker 4: think we and my girlfriend we wound up walking like
- 16:59Speaker 4: six five miles in Paris throughout five days. I never
- 17:03Speaker 4: walked that much in my life, but it was so
- 17:05Speaker 4: much to see. Sometimes you just get tied into it, man,
- 17:08Speaker 4: but it was a great experience. Definitely want to come
- 17:10Speaker 4: back over there at some point and find some other
- 17:12Speaker 4: places to go to, just to you know, get a
- 17:15Speaker 4: little bit away from here, but also you know, just
- 17:17Speaker 4: to be in the same element. I know, stealing nation
- 17:19Speaker 4: is literally in every single country, and I can fill
- 17:22Speaker 4: the presence from that, you know, from everywhere, just like
- 17:24Speaker 4: today and what we're on this podcast, and you know,
- 17:26Speaker 4: just being able to know that even though you are
- 17:29Speaker 4: in a different country, but you also have some other
- 17:31Speaker 4: people that are still in a stealer nation family. You know,
- 17:34Speaker 4: it's it's everywhere, it's worldwide, and you know, I really
- 17:36Speaker 4: got a chance to see that firsthand.
- 17:37Speaker 5: You talked about being in Europe there, would you be
- 17:40Speaker 5: interested in coming back to our the next year to
- 17:42Speaker 5: watch your I'm out of Georgia Tech play here.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I know they're going back over I'm just upset
- 17:48Speaker 4: that I got the shiest to miss that because I
- 17:51Speaker 4: they had a game there the year before I came in,
- 17:55Speaker 4: and they're going two years after, three years after going.
- 17:58Speaker 4: So you know, I saw that they were going back
- 18:00Speaker 4: over there this year, and I'm actually excited for that game.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Hopefully I get a chance to see one at some
- 18:05Speaker 4: point or be able to play in one. You know,
- 18:07Speaker 4: I know, the NFL is starting to have a lot
- 18:09Speaker 4: more outreach of games across seas, and you know, hopefully
- 18:13Speaker 4: we land in a really good spot to you know,
- 18:15Speaker 4: really be able to understand the culture there and also
- 18:17Speaker 4: bring a little bit of American culture to the city too.
- 18:19Speaker 4: So you know, I'm extremely excited to see those guys
- 18:21Speaker 4: go out there next year and dominate. Coach Key got
- 18:24Speaker 4: them in training camp right now too, and hope the
- 18:26Speaker 4: best forum and you know, hopefully be able to get
- 18:28Speaker 4: that experience one day too, for sure.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Yeah, we hope so as well, we're looking forward to
- 18:32Speaker 5: welcome you're over at some stage.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Yeah, most definitely.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and just just speaking about Ireland as well, prisately,
- 18:39Speaker 2: and we've seen a lot of ours footballers, you know,
- 18:41Speaker 2: particularly GA players, you know, time to make the transition
- 18:44Speaker 2: to what we call American football and specifically in the
- 18:47Speaker 2: like the punter position. But like for you, what was
- 18:51Speaker 2: like the motivation behind becoming a punter. Was it something
- 18:54Speaker 2: like maybe you had your eyes sat on from the start,
- 18:56Speaker 2: or did you maybe grow up with like wanting to
- 18:58Speaker 2: be other positions, you know, quarnerback.
- 18:59Speaker 4: Or yeah, I mean it started out. I've been kicking
- 19:03Speaker 4: now since middle school, since seventh grade, so it's been
- 19:05Speaker 4: a while. It was just one of those positions that
- 19:08Speaker 4: we had an open try out for one day. I
- 19:10Speaker 4: was playing center at the time. Nobody else really wanted
- 19:13Speaker 4: to kick, and I was like, you know what, screw it,
- 19:14Speaker 4: I'll be selfless and try it out and I'll never
- 19:17Speaker 4: forget it. That ball went straight up and there go anywhere.
- 19:19Speaker 4: But from that moment on, I was just like, man like,
- 19:22Speaker 4: I actually kind of like this because it's something different.
- 19:25Speaker 4: I've always been a kid of you know, picking up
- 19:27Speaker 4: something new and trying to learn it as fast as
- 19:29Speaker 4: I can. Being an athlete, you know, some of us
- 19:31Speaker 4: really do catch on the things really fast, and this
- 19:34Speaker 4: punning was just kind of one of those things I
- 19:36Speaker 4: just enjoyed. When I got to high school, I got
- 19:38Speaker 4: moved up to varsity my freshman year, didn't play, but
- 19:41Speaker 4: I sat behind someone that I knew was about to graduate,
- 19:44Speaker 4: and you know, just took the initiative to, you know,
- 19:47Speaker 4: go ahead and have the conversation with my parents and
- 19:49Speaker 4: my family what's the best thing to do next. And
- 19:52Speaker 4: you know, I really thought that punny was going to
- 19:54Speaker 4: be able to be my way of getting into the NFL,
- 19:57Speaker 4: which you know, thank god, it did has out that way.
- 20:00Speaker 4: And you know, it didn't really start out as easy.
- 20:03Speaker 4: You know, it was just one of an uphill battle
- 20:05Speaker 4: because I did play other positions, so I had coaches
- 20:08Speaker 4: trying to persuade me to stay on that side. But
- 20:10Speaker 4: when I really got a chance to take plenty full
- 20:12Speaker 4: time when I was a sophomore in high school, that
- 20:15Speaker 4: was the only thing I did. I just continue to
- 20:17Speaker 4: grow with it every single year, and you know, it's
- 20:19Speaker 4: got me to all of my dreams that I had
- 20:21Speaker 4: as a kid and you know, just stay full of
- 20:23Speaker 4: that process and it is something different. And I like,
- 20:27Speaker 4: for example, the pointer that was here before me, Jordan Berry,
- 20:30Speaker 4: He's actually Australian. So you know, being able to have
- 20:34Speaker 4: people from different cultures and stuff that all come to
- 20:36Speaker 4: the same court. It's kind of just like golf. You know,
- 20:38Speaker 4: you got golfers that's all around the world that all
- 20:40Speaker 4: has different styles. Rugby is a way different sports than
- 20:43Speaker 4: it is with football and Americans in American football, but
- 20:47Speaker 4: you know, you have things that you can transition over,
- 20:49Speaker 4: and you know you see that adaptation a lot in
- 20:51Speaker 4: the classrooms, classrooms settings for stuff like like we have
- 20:56Speaker 4: to game plan during rugby, punts and stuff like that
- 20:58Speaker 4: during college. So the game is definitely evolving, and you
- 21:01Speaker 4: know you see two different sports kind of meshed together
- 21:04Speaker 4: a little bit. And you know, I still in contact
- 21:08Speaker 4: with the punter that's actually at Georgia Tech right now.
- 21:11Speaker 4: He's actually from Iron. Yeah, and it's one of those
- 21:15Speaker 4: things where you know, you get to see that no
- 21:19Speaker 4: matter what the sport is, sometimes you're going to have
- 21:21Speaker 4: athletes that come from somewhere else that you know, all
- 21:24Speaker 4: are on the sand ort have a different style. I
- 21:25Speaker 4: was like you know, it's just something that was always
- 21:28Speaker 4: very very different for me to see because you don't
- 21:31Speaker 4: see it a lot with quarterbacks or running backs or
- 21:33Speaker 4: things like that. But in the specialist world, it is
- 21:35Speaker 4: definitely starting to mess and mesh more and more, and
- 21:38Speaker 4: I'm actually excited to see where it goes from here.
- 21:40Speaker 5: I'm sure David Jonathan's messing. You appreciate the shot out Prisley,
- 21:45Speaker 5: and we just have a couple of quick questions to
- 21:48Speaker 5: finish up, you know, saying Vincent College is such a
- 21:51Speaker 5: comod experience that it really is on my book at
- 21:53Speaker 5: list to get there someday and experience a training comp
- 21:56Speaker 5: how of the fans being so.
- 21:57Speaker 4: Far in the trope and we have an outreach of
- 22:01Speaker 4: fans that come from all over the place every single
- 22:04Speaker 4: day for practice. Brother, it's during the week, like a
- 22:06Speaker 4: regular Tuesday or Wednesday practice or in you know, we
- 22:10Speaker 4: have Friday night lights next tomorrow. Actually, that's a really
- 22:13Speaker 4: good experience with fans all over the weekend. I think
- 22:16Speaker 4: we had like twelve thousand fans here on practice on Saturday,
- 22:19Speaker 4: which is insane to even think about effectually actually being
- 22:23Speaker 4: here in Latroll too. You know, it's just a Center
- 22:26Speaker 4: Hub for Stealer Football, and you know it's just one
- 22:28Speaker 4: of those things where you get the experiences off the field,
- 22:32Speaker 4: a lot of fans, a lot of engagement, and you
- 22:35Speaker 4: know that's really what this is about, because you know,
- 22:37Speaker 4: they really don't get the chance to see our day
- 22:39Speaker 4: to day lives or anything like that, especially when the
- 22:41Speaker 4: season starts. They only really see the sixty minutes of
- 22:44Speaker 4: us on the field on Sundays. So, you know, being
- 22:47Speaker 4: able to be here being a little bit selfless and
- 22:50Speaker 4: just knowing the history that the Roally family in this
- 22:52Speaker 4: organization has with Saint Vincent and you know, just being
- 22:54Speaker 4: able to have my little fair share in it. Just
- 22:56Speaker 4: you know, make kids' days out here. Man. People come
- 22:58Speaker 4: all over the places they times don't get the opportunity
- 23:01Speaker 4: to come to games. This is their regular season, and
- 23:04Speaker 4: you know, we always have a really good outreach of
- 23:06Speaker 4: guys being selfless after before getting autographs, taking pictures and
- 23:11Speaker 4: just you know, I've had fans that I've actually met
- 23:13Speaker 4: for on this Leiguerds of Pittsburgh trip I went to
- 23:16Speaker 4: earlier this year to Plunkana and you know, seeing familiar
- 23:20Speaker 4: faces that's in the stands too that you know, are
- 23:22Speaker 4: still out here supporting us every single day is something
- 23:24Speaker 4: that's really really special.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really come across, you know, very good on
- 23:29Speaker 2: screen and stuff. Obviously we're watching from Afar, but finger across.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Maybe we'll get over someday. And just obviously about trending camp,
- 23:35Speaker 2: you know you're won your place on the team and
- 23:38Speaker 2: training camp it south.
- 23:39Speaker 3: You just talked to us about that.
- 23:40Speaker 2: You know, the friendly competitive that exsts during account because
- 23:43Speaker 2: it comes across priory well on screen that years we're
- 23:45Speaker 2: all friendly and stuff, you know what I mean.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's it's one of those things where
- 23:50Speaker 4: you know, this is a business and this is really
- 23:52Speaker 4: the only time we get to compete with another specialist
- 23:55Speaker 4: because when the season starts, you really have your group
- 23:57Speaker 4: ready for the year already. And sometimes I don't want
- 24:02Speaker 4: it to come off bad or anything, but sometimes you know,
- 24:04Speaker 4: when you don't have competition in the room or in
- 24:06Speaker 4: the building with you, it's not the same as when
- 24:09Speaker 4: you're just game planning. You know, everybody else is out
- 24:12Speaker 4: competing all year round with each other in their position groups.
- 24:15Speaker 4: B you know, who's going to get a helmet this
- 24:17Speaker 4: for this game coming up and stuff. Sometimes we don't
- 24:20Speaker 4: get a chance to do that. But you know, having
- 24:22Speaker 4: Branden here, I've been going against him since high school.
- 24:25Speaker 4: I was just watching a highlight tape from seven years
- 24:27Speaker 4: ago of me and him going back and forth in
- 24:29Speaker 4: a battle at a kicking can, and you know, I
- 24:32Speaker 4: never really got the chance to know him personally. That
- 24:34Speaker 4: was one thing that you know, I definitely wanted to
- 24:36Speaker 4: do this off season with him and broke Bread a
- 24:39Speaker 4: good bit play some golf. He's an extremely good golfer,
- 24:42Speaker 4: so you know, I was getting to tried to trying
- 24:44Speaker 4: to get as many tips as I can. But you know,
- 24:47Speaker 4: just being able to have someone that I've known for
- 24:50Speaker 4: so long and actually could not say that I knew
- 24:52Speaker 4: them personally was something that I really wanted to, you know,
- 24:56Speaker 4: really get to understand him more and you know, see
- 24:58Speaker 4: where he is, his story or his life and where
- 25:00Speaker 4: he comes from, because you know, you really don't get
- 25:02Speaker 4: that opportunity a lot of times. And doing it in
- 25:04Speaker 4: a selfless way, you know, and not worrying about the
- 25:07Speaker 4: competitive side of it all the time. You know, you
- 25:09Speaker 4: really grow as a person on and off the field
- 25:12Speaker 4: like that. You know, I don't want him to feel
- 25:14Speaker 4: some type of way about the situation or anything like
- 25:17Speaker 4: that that we're both in right now, and you know,
- 25:19Speaker 4: we both get better the more we really just become
- 25:22Speaker 4: selfless and just worry about, you know, both of us
- 25:25Speaker 4: being the best us on that field and off the field.
- 25:28Speaker 4: And you know that's really what I've been focusing on
- 25:29Speaker 4: this off season with them. You know, I've learn him
- 25:32Speaker 4: for a very long time, but couldn't really tell you
- 25:34Speaker 4: much about him until now. So you know, he's a
- 25:36Speaker 4: really good dude. He's also selfless, and we just come
- 25:39Speaker 4: in every single day and just for focusing on both
- 25:42Speaker 4: of us getting one percent better. And you know we
- 25:44Speaker 4: really do that because we also push each other and
- 25:47Speaker 4: that that really gets put on display every single time
- 25:49Speaker 4: to get out on the field. Love.
- 25:51Speaker 1: But I'm finally perhasly just to wrap this up big
- 25:54Speaker 1: GM next week in the start of the preseason, you
- 25:56Speaker 1: guys are gonna feels the books talks us, but your mindset.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Going into it is it.
- 25:59Speaker 1: You know, like I was seeing different players for different
- 26:02Speaker 1: teams saying it just doesn't matter to me if it's
- 26:04Speaker 1: a preseason game or a regular season game. They're going
- 26:06Speaker 1: out of.
- 26:07Speaker 4: The same Yeah, I mean, the preseason is one of
- 26:10Speaker 4: those things where honestly, I'm kind of thankful we have it.
- 26:13Speaker 4: You know, coming from a collegiate level, you go right
- 26:16Speaker 4: into the regular season right the first time you put
- 26:18Speaker 4: all the pass up state. Are just being able to,
- 26:22Speaker 4: you know, worry about one thing or one week for
- 26:26Speaker 4: training camp, put it all on display at the end
- 26:28Speaker 4: of that week for that preseason game. You know, it
- 26:30Speaker 4: really gets you going for the regular season when it
- 26:31Speaker 4: does get here. You know, I always use that as
- 26:35Speaker 4: you know, it's another game day. There's a game on
- 26:38Speaker 4: that schedule that you know, I have to be fully
- 26:40Speaker 4: prepared for, and you know, I get an opportunity to
- 26:42Speaker 4: find myself and my rhythm and my day to day
- 26:46Speaker 4: sayings of you know what a game week would look
- 26:48Speaker 4: like for me leading up to the season, and you know,
- 26:51Speaker 4: just being able to have a routine and you know,
- 26:53Speaker 4: just have that same mentality of you know, here goes
- 26:55Speaker 4: another game day. It doesn't really get a chance to
- 26:57Speaker 4: psych you out when the regular season comes. Sometimes, you
- 27:00Speaker 4: know there's a lot of performance anxiety and things like
- 27:02Speaker 4: that that a lot of athletes deal with. But you know,
- 27:04Speaker 4: being able to be on a field two three, four
- 27:06Speaker 4: times a season a preseason before the regular season comes
- 27:11Speaker 4: really kind of gets you ready on that time of
- 27:13Speaker 4: you know, you haven't played a game in about seven
- 27:15Speaker 4: eight months, and you don't want the first time you
- 27:18Speaker 4: go back out there to be the first game of
- 27:20Speaker 4: the season, and you know you're not really fully prepared.
- 27:22Speaker 4: So it's just one of those things that you know,
- 27:24Speaker 4: I use as the checklist of you know, being mentally
- 27:26Speaker 4: prepared for it and just being able to you know,
- 27:30Speaker 4: start out fast. You know, we got to start out
- 27:32Speaker 4: fast this year. We've got a really great team that
- 27:35Speaker 4: I think is going to do some really special things,
- 27:37Speaker 4: but you know, it just really starts on how we
- 27:39Speaker 4: can mention that as a team. We got three opportunities
- 27:42Speaker 4: this year for three preseason games to be able to
- 27:44Speaker 4: do that. So you know, we're all excited on this
- 27:46Speaker 4: side of it. We're just ready to get to work.
- 27:48Speaker 4: And there's a lot of people that are really antsy
- 27:50Speaker 4: to really show a lot of people wrong this year,
- 27:52Speaker 4: and I'm one of those people. You know, we're always,
- 27:54Speaker 4: for some reason, the underdog team, and our division, we're
- 27:57Speaker 4: always the underdog team. You know, we got six lombard
- 28:00Speaker 4: Is and you know, with that empty space next to
- 28:01Speaker 4: we're trying to fill this year.
- 28:04Speaker 1: But the Presley thank you so much for coming on
- 28:06Speaker 1: to the RSITIS podcast and a lot of fans not
- 28:08Speaker 1: just in Ireland but in Europe will love to hear
- 28:10Speaker 1: from me, and we want to take this opportunity to
- 28:11Speaker 1: wish the very very best this season. As we say
- 28:14Speaker 1: here Grimmy and Mugget and we will chat.
- 28:16Speaker 4: You said, yeah, man, appreciate you guys for having me.
- 28:18Speaker 4: Hopefully you guys get the chance to come out to
- 28:20Speaker 4: one of these games, so man, it'll be really awesome
- 28:22Speaker 4: for you guys to get over here.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Dave's great to hear from Presley.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Great guy.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Really looking forward to hearing and seeing what he does
- 28:31Speaker 1: this season. Lots of interesting information there that fans in
- 28:34Speaker 1: Ireland can take over.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Yeah percent.
- 28:37Speaker 2: You know with the pumping game if you like in
- 28:39Speaker 2: Ireland especially, it's it's taken off mego. You know, there's
- 28:43Speaker 2: a lot of guys going across states that playing in
- 28:45Speaker 2: the college game and it's obviously the experience from our
- 28:48Speaker 2: sport we have, you know that they're taking it from
- 28:51Speaker 2: and you know it's it's it's a real good advertisement
- 28:53Speaker 2: for our game over there as well. Good to see
- 28:55Speaker 2: it's good to see and obviously a lot of interesting
- 28:58Speaker 2: things from Pressley there.
- 28:59Speaker 1: We have been really folks. We have been bzzn't to
- 29:03Speaker 1: see not just your your tweets, your Instagram comments, just
- 29:07Speaker 1: your opinions and questions over the last few days on
- 29:09Speaker 1: the Steelers Ireland social accounts. We want to fink giveryone
- 29:13Speaker 1: for coming through and selling it's not just their thoughts,
- 29:15Speaker 1: their opinions and questions. We've got some questions. We've got
- 29:18Speaker 1: four or five questions that we're going to have a
- 29:20Speaker 1: bit of fun with. The first one is from Mark
- 29:23Speaker 1: and this one was also asked by Jared, what is
- 29:26Speaker 1: your opinion on the Matt Canada offense? I think Mark said,
- 29:30Speaker 1: do you trust the Matt Canada offense? I've looked at
- 29:33Speaker 1: just frankly what Matt Canada had the same one of
- 29:37Speaker 1: his first pressers for training camp, and he says, you
- 29:41Speaker 1: look at having a winning season. There's a lot to
- 29:43Speaker 1: build upon that by no means is good enough. We
- 29:45Speaker 1: have to score points. We have to be more explosive,
- 29:48Speaker 1: we have to make those plays. There was a jump.
- 29:50Speaker 1: There was a certain unfair expectation that a player who
- 29:54Speaker 1: started games at any spot is to be better as
- 29:56Speaker 1: we go. And for me, the key is is being positive,
- 30:00Speaker 1: is looking forward, and it's clear that make Canada has
- 30:04Speaker 1: in my opinion at least, it's clearly he has the
- 30:07Speaker 1: idea of what not just to do this season, what
- 30:10Speaker 1: he can do to develop this offense and sort of
- 30:14Speaker 1: maintain it as they try and build towards hopefully winning
- 30:18Speaker 1: an AFC North title.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll just say mag I'm just listening to that quote.
- 30:23Speaker 4: It's good.
- 30:24Speaker 2: It's good to hear the positive vibes. And of course
- 30:27Speaker 2: there was times last year where we did have to
- 30:28Speaker 2: read it back a bit with Kenny being a rookie.
- 30:31Speaker 2: But hopefully now with him made going into the second year,
- 30:34Speaker 2: you know, there's a lot of positive talk around Kenny's progression.
- 30:37Speaker 2: He's speaking about himself, you know, he's being very confident.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I heard him on speaking with Big Ben actually last month.
- 30:43Speaker 2: He was going on about how his mindsets changed us
- 30:45Speaker 2: the years went by.
- 30:47Speaker 4: So what.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Matt's job basically is just to help Kenny along and
- 30:51Speaker 2: hopefully now with the second year coming up, the shatouts
- 30:54Speaker 2: will come off a bit more, to play calling will
- 30:56Speaker 2: become a bit more aggressive and we can finally just
- 30:59Speaker 2: see the cannon picket that we know. Of course, there
- 31:01Speaker 2: was times last year where maybe a few of our fans,
- 31:04Speaker 2: you know, fought, we really wish we had a went
- 31:06Speaker 2: for that a bit maybe on third and twelve where
- 31:09Speaker 2: he maybe you know, had maybe a few screenplays played
- 31:12Speaker 2: at safe. But hopefully now obviously with Kenny's second year
- 31:15Speaker 2: and the player calling as well, will become more aggressive.
- 31:18Speaker 3: And obviously you know Matt's are gay.
- 31:19Speaker 2: You know, at the end of the day, coach tomlind
- 31:21Speaker 2: trusts him to run the offenses as smoothly as he
- 31:23Speaker 2: possibly can, and you know that's that's all you can say.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Obviously with trust and stuff, you know, trust is earned,
- 31:30Speaker 2: of course, but obviously say you know, it's one hundred
- 31:32Speaker 2: percent in with this offense. I mean, who wouldn't want
- 31:34Speaker 2: to be offensive coach for this offense right now? It's
- 31:37Speaker 2: a gest really, So hopefully Mark can can can one
- 31:39Speaker 2: hundred percent contribute to the progression of us.
- 31:43Speaker 1: And just going on left from what we said before
- 31:45Speaker 1: interview with Presley, we talked about high Well Andony mc
- 31:49Speaker 1: fard in the satele into the camp and when you've
- 31:51Speaker 1: got Kelly and if Kenny makes a few good plays,
- 31:53Speaker 1: maybe struggles on some series, but she will because he's
- 31:56Speaker 1: still learning in the league, and every team will will
- 31:58Speaker 1: have that issue at some point this season. If you
- 32:00Speaker 1: can rely on Nagy and then bringing out in the
- 32:03Speaker 1: McFarland as well, you've got a situation there where that
- 32:05Speaker 1: run game can assist the past game and that gives
- 32:08Speaker 1: the offense more confidence. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing
- 32:11Speaker 1: how Matt Canada can try and developed this a week
- 32:13Speaker 1: of three preseason games to see how that develops. Also,
- 32:16Speaker 1: before we play the Niners in Week one, Eaton has
- 32:19Speaker 1: said that's a question. Thank you Eaton Avice their first
- 32:22Speaker 1: lads as well for gendering the question. Do you think
- 32:25Speaker 1: the Steelers will add depth at alb Well, Eaton, They've
- 32:29Speaker 1: brought in Kawun Alexander, who was previously with the Jets
- 32:35Speaker 1: in New York. He registers sixty nine tackles into half
- 32:37Speaker 1: starts while playing in seventeen games last season. Solid player
- 32:42Speaker 1: does have an injury history, but I guess when you're
- 32:44Speaker 1: signing the guy that of age twenty eight twenty nine
- 32:47Speaker 1: in that position. But you're looking at a real revamped
- 32:49Speaker 1: inside linebacker corps where the Steelers now have a bit
- 32:53Speaker 1: more certainty in that position by bringing to Alexander to.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I was just actually saying that that's a
- 32:58Speaker 2: good question obviously, whether did we bring any more and
- 33:01Speaker 2: it's it's highly unlikely. Again, you never know. There is
- 33:04Speaker 2: still a few weeks left to go to the season.
- 33:06Speaker 2: But yeah, you just mentioned about one Alexander.
- 33:09Speaker 4: I was.
- 33:09Speaker 2: I have to be honest, I was toughed with at Michael.
- 33:12Speaker 2: He's a good veter in the house. You know, he's
- 33:14Speaker 2: played for the Bucks, he's played for the.
- 33:15Speaker 3: Saints, and you know last year for the Jets, he
- 33:18Speaker 3: was he was important for their season and he's really
- 33:22Speaker 3: he's a really good tackle machine.
- 33:23Speaker 2: He's a good field general. But he did obviously, I
- 33:25Speaker 2: don't know if you heard the interview. He just likes
- 33:27Speaker 2: hitting gays, and that's what you want to hear, because
- 33:29Speaker 2: a guy who likes hitting gays, he's trying to strip
- 33:32Speaker 2: the ball. He's trying to win position back for us.
- 33:33Speaker 2: So I I was the exact same as well as that.
- 33:37Speaker 2: You know, we've got a London Roberts from Miami. He
- 33:39Speaker 2: was key for Miami last year. Miami's defense now if
- 33:41Speaker 2: you look at it, it's it's it's obviously one of
- 33:44Speaker 2: the best defenses in the league. And the fact that
- 33:47Speaker 2: we've got somebody from there, it just shows, you know,
- 33:50Speaker 2: if we've got cold Hole come as well. He played
- 33:51Speaker 2: for the Commanders, I believe last last year. So we've addered,
- 33:55Speaker 2: we've already added a few pieces. That is a relatively
- 33:58Speaker 2: new group. It's just about putting these pieces together and
- 34:01Speaker 2: hopefully before we know what the inside linebacker position, you know,
- 34:04Speaker 2: we won't need a strengthen it.
- 34:05Speaker 3: Obviously hopefully we stay injury free.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Touch would but yeah, even looking at it as well,
- 34:10Speaker 2: if you look at our defense all around the field,
- 34:13Speaker 2: you know, we're just we're just brilliant. And this defense
- 34:16Speaker 2: is really coming like coming across really good for me.
- 34:18Speaker 2: I'm having I'm having dreams already of listening to Super
- 34:22Speaker 2: Bowls trophy and fabrics. So yeah, inside linebackers, it looks
- 34:26Speaker 2: like we've covered it, but who knows. You know, you
- 34:28Speaker 2: never send ever in this league to see the.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Steelers make such a quick move and a bold move
- 34:33Speaker 1: in a good way of bringing Ink one. And we
- 34:35Speaker 1: wish him the very very best going forward. And the
- 34:37Speaker 1: next question is from Steven and I'm going to ask
- 34:40Speaker 1: you this because you're I can't wait to see your
- 34:42Speaker 1: answer to this, is he wins the starting job from
- 34:45Speaker 1: Dan Moore junior Brotherwick Jones will have to face Nick
- 34:48Speaker 1: Bosa in week one, Miles Garrett in week two and
- 34:51Speaker 1: Max Crosby in week three. How do you think he'll
- 34:54Speaker 1: perform against three hop pass rosters to start his NFL career.
- 34:57Speaker 1: I mean, the answer to me it will be that
- 35:02Speaker 1: he will go in and he will get over and
- 35:03Speaker 1: he has a weak one week too much, and I
- 35:05Speaker 1: think that's that's that that is the joke going into
- 35:07Speaker 1: the n at all. But that is the expectation with
- 35:09Speaker 1: this Teish franchise. You have to give your best, and
- 35:12Speaker 1: it's for any reason, I'm sure it would happen. But
- 35:14Speaker 1: if say, for example, this is the best start against
- 35:17Speaker 1: Miles Garlet or sorry against like both sail week one,
- 35:20Speaker 1: he'll pick up Anne be Forward as well.
- 35:22Speaker 2: That's a great question, MiG if you actually think of it,
- 35:25Speaker 2: that's potentially three of the best you know pass rushers
- 35:29Speaker 2: in the league. And now again it's it's another one
- 35:32Speaker 2: of those questions where if if he wins the starting
- 35:35Speaker 2: job again just listening to you know, the Bozzer Round
- 35:39Speaker 2: training camp, you know, although he started taking first team reps,
- 35:42Speaker 2: he's still potentially a long way to go, you know,
- 35:45Speaker 2: downward junior, he's he's a bit of a veteran at
- 35:47Speaker 2: the stage, and no one, Meg Tomlin, it wouldn't be
- 35:51Speaker 2: like him to feed the young young guns to the Lions,
- 35:53Speaker 2: if you like. So again, we'll have to see if
- 35:56Speaker 2: it does happen. If it does happen, how do you
- 35:58Speaker 2: think he'll go up against him? I'm the exact same
- 36:00Speaker 2: as you, Meg, and I think he'll do relatively well.
- 36:03Speaker 2: And do you know what, if he goes in and
- 36:04Speaker 2: he does well and he prevents them from having all
- 36:06Speaker 2: time games, then we know we've got our future left
- 36:09Speaker 2: tackle and we've got a hell of a player on
- 36:11Speaker 2: our hands. It's just whether is he going to make
- 36:13Speaker 2: that step up, And obviously that's going to come down
- 36:15Speaker 2: to the coach. If the coach believes he's rady, then
- 36:17Speaker 2: he's ready. If not, we've always got We've got a
- 36:19Speaker 2: lot of good depth there at the left tackle position
- 36:21Speaker 2: with Don More and also Dylan Cooker as well.
- 36:24Speaker 3: They're a third string. So it's it's at the same
- 36:27Speaker 3: time as you think of it in our terms, it's
- 36:29Speaker 3: a bit like putting me in against you know, David Clifford,
- 36:32Speaker 3: Shan Watson and Sean mcgigan.
- 36:33Speaker 2: You know I would get toasted. But at the same time,
- 36:36Speaker 2: who knows what will happen with brodoc products obviously a
- 36:38Speaker 2: lot higher level than I am.
- 36:39Speaker 3: So fingers crossed it. It can, it can step up
- 36:41Speaker 3: to the plates.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Adam who thinks from Dublin, said, do you expect the
- 36:46Speaker 1: Dean the Johnson to step up make an impact? Obviously
- 36:48Speaker 1: people listening to this podcast and might have be Steeters fans,
- 36:51Speaker 1: Theodi Johnson had a year last year where he didn't
- 36:53Speaker 1: have a receiving touch on and you know, I think
- 36:56Speaker 1: we all hope that that. I'm sure, we're sure that's
- 36:57Speaker 1: what will happen in this season. But look at the
- 37:00Speaker 1: same time, this team was playing under a week quarterback
- 37:04Speaker 1: last season and went through those hard times where Kenny
- 37:08Speaker 1: was picking up the game, and they've got to this
- 37:10Speaker 1: point in camp where there's a lot of optimism in
- 37:11Speaker 1: this offense and you can see now idea that not
- 37:15Speaker 1: just for Kenny improved, but with George Pickens being there
- 37:20Speaker 1: also for Deantrey Johnson. There's that competitive positive rivalry there
- 37:24Speaker 1: and it's guys is going to help this offense going forward.
- 37:27Speaker 1: And we talked about Matt Carla there earlier on that's
- 37:30Speaker 1: healthy and for all we know. You know, if you
- 37:32Speaker 1: see Deanti Johnson going in week one or week two
- 37:36Speaker 1: and get that first touchdown, imagine the confident that just
- 37:39Speaker 1: doesn't give to him, but it gives the whole offense.
- 37:41Speaker 1: You know, Like he came out of the started campas
- 37:43Speaker 1: that he feels like it's a weight off his shoulders.
- 37:45Speaker 1: So I'm just buzzing to see what's gonna happen, not
- 37:48Speaker 1: just in the preseason, but the minute we get going
- 37:49Speaker 1: against the Niners in a few weeks.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I was I nearly fell off mature and Michael
- 37:54Speaker 2: when I when I'd saying that he had no touchdowns
- 37:56Speaker 2: last year.
- 37:56Speaker 3: It's crazy, do you think? And of course there's there's
- 37:59Speaker 3: a lot of pressure, you know, there's a lot of
- 38:01Speaker 3: pressure coming of being a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Stealers.
- 38:04Speaker 2: That's just the way it's gonna be. And I'm sure
- 38:07Speaker 2: he is ready. He is chomping out the bit, ready
- 38:09Speaker 2: to go again. You imagined there about you know, you
- 38:13Speaker 2: know who's going to have, you know, the more catches
- 38:15Speaker 2: and stuff. Who's gonna come out as number one. It's
- 38:18Speaker 2: not healthy competition. Like you know, listening to that podcast
- 38:21Speaker 2: a few weeks ago with Big Ben and Kenny just
- 38:23Speaker 2: reminiscent when Big Ben was matching about you know, Antonio
- 38:26Speaker 2: Brown and more Tavis Brand. They were constantly on that
- 38:29Speaker 2: heage like, who's gonna get more catches, Who's going to
- 38:31Speaker 2: get more touchdowns? This is what we need to see
- 38:33Speaker 2: between our wide receivers, you know, Deon ten and George.
- 38:36Speaker 2: You know, George obviously is going on about how he
- 38:38Speaker 2: wants to be the best receiver in the league, and
- 38:40Speaker 2: Deontay Johnson's probably turned around the second, well, I want
- 38:42Speaker 2: to be the.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Best receiver in the league.
- 38:44Speaker 2: So it's gonna be that scramble for who's gonna have
- 38:46Speaker 2: more catches, Who's who's gonna have more yards, who's gonna
- 38:49Speaker 2: have more touchdowns. It's healthy competition and hopefully can only
- 38:51Speaker 2: improve our team. But I just know for a fact
- 38:54Speaker 2: Deontey will be looking at start Chase last year and thinking,
- 38:57Speaker 2: you know, how did it go so wrong? Because we
- 38:59Speaker 2: know how good of a player he is, and obviously
- 39:02Speaker 2: with the issues with the drops last year as well.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Fingers crossed that that can be can be ractified as well,
- 39:07Speaker 2: so all power to him. Hopefully we can see a
- 39:10Speaker 2: massive improvement in the year number two.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Absolutely boss. Last question is from one of the biggest
- 39:18Speaker 1: fans of the Staters in the North in norther Ireland,
- 39:22Speaker 1: that is Neil Ogul. Massive Staelers fans of shout out
- 39:25Speaker 1: today that he's been a band for decades and then
- 39:28Speaker 1: Neil's excited to get involved with his projects. So chatty soon, Neil,
- 39:32Speaker 1: He's saying, you know, Staelers are being whispered in the
- 39:34Speaker 1: dark corners of the NFL as an under the Raider team.
- 39:38Speaker 1: What makes the panel think that we can now overturn
- 39:40Speaker 1: the Bengals, Chiefs and even the Niners. In the first game,
- 39:43Speaker 1: Neil told me that he is prudent with his team,
- 39:48Speaker 1: and don't I think he likes the glass half full situation.
- 39:52Speaker 1: I'll tell you one of this. It's it's that hope.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Is that hope in weeks in week zero, week one,
- 39:56Speaker 1: where every team is equal to every team has that
- 39:59Speaker 1: same belief that they can go for Lombardi every year,
- 40:01Speaker 1: but not just that you mix up together with the
- 40:03Speaker 1: expectation and the performance of this team expects to have.
- 40:08Speaker 1: I feel you take that and you go from there.
- 40:09Speaker 1: We've seen what happened with Joe Burrow last week with
- 40:12Speaker 1: and you know, look, I think any football band would
- 40:15Speaker 1: hope that you know, no player Afri gets injured. But
- 40:18Speaker 1: we don't know what Joe Burrow's current performance level is.
- 40:23Speaker 1: We do not know how the Chiefs are going to perform,
- 40:25Speaker 1: you know, because they play with a really new team
- 40:27Speaker 1: last year, and you talk about that Niers in the
- 40:29Speaker 1: first game. We don't know he's going to be starting.
- 40:30Speaker 1: But we're wacking from the Niners at the minute. So
- 40:32Speaker 1: I think there's so many what ifs, and that gives
- 40:34Speaker 1: the steers. You've got so many things that have been
- 40:37Speaker 1: worked on over the last twelve deplay four months where
- 40:40Speaker 1: they feel settled, and I think you start that game
- 40:42Speaker 1: at home and you take it one game at a time.
- 40:45Speaker 2: To Yeah, another good question, Mike. Look what it would
- 40:51Speaker 2: say is, you know, we're looking at the Chiefs and
- 40:53Speaker 2: the Bengals. They're the top dogs right now at the minute.
- 40:57Speaker 2: What I think we need to be focused on is
- 40:59Speaker 2: beating the tape tas that we can't we have to beat.
- 41:02Speaker 2: So the teams were expected debaate. You know, we're playing
- 41:04Speaker 2: the FC South this year, you know, the Titans, the Taxans,
- 41:07Speaker 2: the Colts. We need to make sure we're beating them teams.
- 41:09Speaker 2: And then obviously, once we find ourselves in a position
- 41:11Speaker 2: of power, if you like, that's obviously when we can
- 41:13Speaker 2: start gaming for you know, Mahomes Burrows. Obviously, with the
- 41:17Speaker 2: Burrows injury and stuff, it's put everything up in the air.
- 41:20Speaker 2: And obviously, you know, you never want to see a
- 41:22Speaker 2: player get injured. But we've got a choppitalize now.
- 41:25Speaker 3: We'll obviously if he's going to be missing for a
- 41:27Speaker 3: few weeks, you know, who knows how how good we'll
- 41:30Speaker 3: we'll come off at the start.
- 41:32Speaker 2: And so about overturning them, it's one thing about overturning them,
- 41:37Speaker 2: and all the thing is beating them, you know, obviously
- 41:38Speaker 2: as the season goes on, I'm sure as you know, Michael,
- 41:41Speaker 2: you know, playing against Chiefs on a cold playoff night
- 41:46Speaker 2: in January, it's one of the most difficult.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Toss in the entire league to to overcome.
- 41:52Speaker 2: So it's really just all about can we beat the
- 41:55Speaker 2: teams we are supposed to beat and obviously hitting hopefully
- 41:58Speaker 2: straying towards beating the bigger teams later on the season
- 42:00Speaker 2: and just getting on my montum. But we can do it, certainly.
- 42:04Speaker 2: You just mentioned there about you know, the foreign ers.
- 42:05Speaker 2: We don't know who's gonna be starting and week one
- 42:08Speaker 2: you know brock per Day, Treil Answers coming back from injury,
- 42:12Speaker 2: and there's even rumors about Sam Darnold as well. So
- 42:15Speaker 2: we don't know who we're playing against the week one yet.
- 42:17Speaker 2: But as long as we get off to a good
- 42:18Speaker 2: start and you know, who knows what will happen. You know,
- 42:20Speaker 2: if we can get up some momentum, you know, the
- 42:23Speaker 2: bankers the chief will come along as well.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Absolutely, man, and just massive thanks to everyone gets interacted,
- 42:29Speaker 1: not just to this podcast, but interacting continually with the

- 42:57Speaker 1: We're sitting here now a few weeks agt F for
- 42:58Speaker 1: pre season, and I think you want to see camp
- 43:00Speaker 1: over the next week or so or just continue to
- 43:04Speaker 1: keep it going.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Well, honestly, Michael, the thing we need we need the
- 43:09Speaker 2: young guys getting first team wraps, of course, and you know,
- 43:12Speaker 2: so far there's been a lot of you know, second
- 43:15Speaker 2: team raps. If feel like, you know, we're we just
- 43:17Speaker 2: maybe haven't got as much first team raps as we want,
- 43:20Speaker 2: and that's obviously what we want to hear. We want
- 43:22Speaker 2: to hear a good progression, all positive stories you know,
- 43:25Speaker 2: coming out so far, and just long may I continue.
- 43:29Speaker 2: But yeah, obviously another good thing, our important thing is
- 43:31Speaker 2: no more injuries, please, and that will be great because
- 43:34Speaker 2: obviously any the more injuries, the more obviously you know,
- 43:38Speaker 2: looking around we have to do so hopefully that the
- 43:41Speaker 2: veterans just keep, you know, pushing the young guys forward
- 43:44Speaker 2: and before you know what, well the season will be
- 43:46Speaker 2: upon us and we're all ready for week one.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Looking forward to me, we'll be back next week potentially
- 43:52Speaker 1: with a full long I'll like, you know, see Jim's back.
