- 1:30Speaker 3: For those that do not know.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Who I am, I am the visionary of the Crew Podcast.
- 1:36Speaker 4: I am the visionary of Aspiring Authors Magazine, and I
- 1:40Speaker 4: just desire to be the change that I want to
- 1:43Speaker 4: see in this world. And I am so excited because
- 1:46Speaker 4: on tonight we have some amazing authors. They have taken
- 1:54Speaker 4: the opportunity to utilize their gifts and their talents to
- 2:01Speaker 4: really be a voice and to be an outlet. So
- 2:05Speaker 4: I'm excited tonight to allow them to be able to
- 2:09Speaker 4: share and to share what legacy is to them and
- 2:14Speaker 4: how they are leaving their blueprint. And really we're gonna
- 2:18Speaker 4: talk about Black history and what that means and look
- 2:22Speaker 4: like to us. So I'm gonna move on out the way,
- 2:27Speaker 4: because y'all know how I can get. So I'm gonna
- 2:30Speaker 4: move on out the way. And I'm gonna allow my
- 2:33Speaker 4: first amazing author to come on up and introduce herself
- 2:41Speaker 4: and let me find her because y'all know.
- 2:44Speaker 3: I got graphics.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Y'all know I got some stuff.
- 2:47Speaker 6: You know we got.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I'm so grateful for this new platform.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Shout out to I ain't gonna mess up their name,
- 2:54Speaker 4: but shout out to them because I love how we
- 3:00Speaker 4: can just play with the little the little graphics and
- 3:04Speaker 4: it won't let me do it right now, but it's coming.
- 3:07Speaker 4: It's got it's got somebody else up on the screen, y'all.
- 3:11Speaker 4: But those those were those blueper moments, and I'm like, Okay,
- 3:14Speaker 4: we're gonna show that at the end of the season
- 3:17Speaker 4: when when that happened. But we're gonna have fun right now.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Why it's happening because you know what, because we just
- 3:23Speaker 4: talked about this adapt We just talked about it, and
- 3:26Speaker 4: I tell you it never it don't take long before
- 3:30Speaker 4: it comes.
- 3:31Speaker 3: It comes right back. Invite me in the face. But
- 3:34Speaker 3: here it is.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Here she come, she comeing, y'all, She coming, she coming,
- 3:40Speaker 4: she coming, she coming, she coming, And y'all, when y'all
- 3:43Speaker 4: see it, y'all gonna be like.
- 3:44Speaker 5: Oh, it's worth it.
- 3:48Speaker 3: It's worth what's worth that?
- 3:51Speaker 7: And you she comes, y'all welcome. Thank you so much
- 3:58Speaker 7: for having me. I am wonderful, absolutely wonderful, Happy Black
- 4:05Speaker 7: History Mom.
- 4:10Speaker 4: To have you here and be in a voice, because
- 4:13Speaker 4: for so long they have said they have silenced us,
- 4:17Speaker 4: and they have not allowed us to be a voice.
- 4:19Speaker 4: So I want you to allow those that are tuned
- 4:23Speaker 4: in and those that will hear the replay to know
- 4:27Speaker 4: a little bit about Miss Natalie.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Well, my name is Natalie R.
- 4:33Speaker 6: Murphy.
- 4:33Speaker 7: The R stands for romance junkie. That's my story. I'm
- 4:37Speaker 7: sticking to it. By my name, you can guess that
- 4:42Speaker 7: I am a romance writer. I'm an award winning romance writer.
- 4:46Speaker 7: And I started my journey back during the pandemic. It
- 4:50Speaker 7: was not a plan that I would be on this journey,
- 4:52Speaker 7: but God gave me this idea for a story, and
- 4:56Speaker 7: he told me to write the story. And I told
- 4:58Speaker 7: him no, and I gave him every reason why I couldn't,
- 5:02Speaker 7: and I fought for about three weeks telling God I
- 5:06Speaker 7: was not gonna write this story. And I told him
- 5:09Speaker 7: because I don't know anything about writing a full story.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I've always been a writer.
- 5:13Speaker 7: I've always liked writing poetry and short stories, but I
- 5:17Speaker 7: knew nothing about publishing. I didn't know how much it
- 5:21Speaker 7: was going to cause I didn't know anything about literary
- 5:24Speaker 7: agents things like that. And my girlfriend read my manuscript
- 5:29Speaker 7: and she said, Nat, you got to do.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Something with this.
- 5:32Speaker 7: So I was like, okay. Then my mom and my
- 5:35Speaker 7: sister read and they're like, this is good. You gotta
- 5:37Speaker 7: do something. So I decided to do my research, and
- 5:41Speaker 7: through doing my research, I self published my first romance novel.
- 5:45Speaker 7: Then came You, and it won a Distinguished Authors Guild Award.
- 5:50Speaker 7: And I tell people that that battle that I tried
- 5:53Speaker 7: to have with God was the best battle that I
- 5:56Speaker 7: ever lost, because since then, I've not only won Distinguished
- 6:01Speaker 7: Authors Guild Award, the first for my first book, four
- 6:05Speaker 7: of my books have won Distinguished Authors Guild Awards and
- 6:08Speaker 7: I am currently a Distinguished Authors Guild Brand Ambassador.
- 6:15Speaker 3: So I'm excited about that position this year.
- 6:17Speaker 7: Because what to do my with the year with DAG
- 6:22Speaker 7: and it's been an amazing journey if you are if
- 6:26Speaker 7: you are an author and you're looking to take your
- 6:29Speaker 7: book to the next level, you need to join the
- 6:31Speaker 7: Distinguished Authors Guild because Gina Gadson has created something amazing
- 6:38Speaker 7: for US African American authors and I, just like I said,
- 6:43Speaker 7: it's been such an amazing journey. I've met so many people,
- 6:46Speaker 7: so many authors, so many publishers and things like that,
- 6:51Speaker 7: and it's just been an amazing, amazing writer. And I'm
- 6:55Speaker 7: gonna tell you, if God tells you to do something,
- 6:57Speaker 7: just do it.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Just do it.
- 7:00Speaker 7: No Sinason fighting, you can't beat him. He's always got
- 7:03Speaker 7: a better plan than we do. And so yeah, so
- 7:07Speaker 7: I'm very excited about this. February is my month because
- 7:11Speaker 7: it's a month of love and me being a romance
- 7:13Speaker 7: junkie that I am. I'm all into it and my
- 7:17Speaker 7: romance novels. At this point, I have seven and I
- 7:21Speaker 7: just released a new book. Now, this one was not
- 7:25Speaker 7: a romance novel, but it's a romance guy and it's
- 7:29Speaker 7: called make Room for Romance Up A Sorry a flirty.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Guy to play in passion.
- 7:40Speaker 7: And this book gives you ideas on how to make
- 7:46Speaker 7: your romance steamy because as African Americans, our love life
- 7:52Speaker 7: is played down. We don't we're not seen as being
- 7:56Speaker 7: the passionate, loving people that we are. We love strong,
- 8:00Speaker 7: we love hard, and that's what I write for. I
- 8:05Speaker 7: write for African American strong, African American independent women who
- 8:10Speaker 7: are not afraid to ask for what they want, and
- 8:14Speaker 7: that's one of the things that I like about writing romance.
- 8:17Speaker 7: The other thing is I like for my romance novels
- 8:22Speaker 7: to be an escape, especially in this climate where we
- 8:25Speaker 7: are now. I write so that we can escape all
- 8:29Speaker 7: the social ills, all the hustle and bustle of the
- 8:32Speaker 7: every day, and it's my I feel like my stories
- 8:36Speaker 7: are a reminder of the passion and the joy and
- 8:39Speaker 7: I happily ever after is that we all want to experience.
- 8:43Speaker 3: So that's my story. Wow, So.
- 8:49Speaker 4: I know you're not an author by trade, So what
- 8:54Speaker 4: made you get into writing?
- 8:58Speaker 3: Well, like I said, I've always love to write.
- 9:01Speaker 5: You're right.
- 9:02Speaker 7: I originally started out as a preschool teacher. I loved
- 9:06Speaker 7: the little bitties, and then I started my business as
- 9:10Speaker 7: a photographer.
- 9:10Speaker 3: But it was, like I said, the pandemic.
- 9:12Speaker 7: It shut down my photography business, and I again, I've
- 9:16Speaker 7: always loved to write. So once I started writing, once
- 9:21Speaker 7: I was obedient and I started writing, then it just
- 9:26Speaker 7: I don't know, it's like that bug grabbed me and
- 9:29Speaker 7: I just I can't stop. I think even at this point,
- 9:32Speaker 7: if I didn't publish, I will still continue to write,
- 9:35Speaker 7: just because I love to write. It's my expression, it's
- 9:38Speaker 7: my way of expressing myself, and at this point in
- 9:44Speaker 7: terms of publishing, it's my legacy. I want my children
- 9:48Speaker 7: to have that legacy. As African American people, we are storytellers.
- 9:53Speaker 7: So I feel like I'm living up to the legacy
- 9:58Speaker 7: that was already out there and being a storyteller.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Wow, that's amazing, And I want to thank you for
- 10:07Speaker 4: stopping by and sharing with us. Make sure you hang
- 10:12Speaker 4: around because we're gonna talk about some more.
- 10:15Speaker 3: We're gonna dive into some more of those.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Books how individuals can connect with you, and we're gonna
- 10:22Speaker 4: tap in on the conversation because of all the stuff
- 10:27Speaker 4: that's happening right now, I really want people to hone
- 10:31Speaker 4: in on the importance of what black literacy mean right now,
- 10:38Speaker 4: in Black literature and us having a voice and us
- 10:43Speaker 4: being able to put these things out there and getting
- 10:47Speaker 4: it before people because they're taking so much from us. Absolutely,
- 10:52Speaker 4: I definitely want you to hang around. I'm gonna bring
- 10:55Speaker 4: up my next guest and I'm gonna bring you all right,
- 11:02Speaker 4: can continue continue this conversations as a panel, So bring
- 11:08Speaker 4: my next guest up, Doctor Chen.
- 11:15Speaker 8: I feel really beautiful and great, right now I'm still
- 11:19Speaker 8: I'm not sure what to follow with. I wish you
- 11:21Speaker 8: asked me first, because sister Queen not to Lee kind
- 11:26Speaker 8: of set a particular standard that I hope I can
- 11:29Speaker 8: still just kind of roll with this anchor with because
- 11:32Speaker 8: you have given us a wonderful array of what you
- 11:37Speaker 8: bring and continue to bring in terms of your work
- 11:41Speaker 8: as a literary artist, as an author, and especially when
- 11:47Speaker 8: I heard the photography piece and I said, okay, we're
- 11:50Speaker 8: diversifying too, I said, this is powerful, powerful, beyond measure.
- 11:54Speaker 8: So it's honor to be amongst such great persons that
- 11:59Speaker 8: are willing to engage with this visionary sister Queen Angela
- 12:05Speaker 8: and all of the different elements of one hundred authors
- 12:08Speaker 8: to watch in twenty twenty five, and I won't limit
- 12:11Speaker 8: it to twenty twenty five. I'll just say one hundred
- 12:14Speaker 8: authors to watch period. Yeah, grateful, see you know you.
- 12:24Speaker 6: I can just keep it going.
- 12:25Speaker 8: I'm listening and I'm anchoring because I just heard a
- 12:27Speaker 8: lot and I was sitting here taking notes.
- 12:29Speaker 6: I brought a pan out. It's not just my laptop.
- 12:32Speaker 6: I had to write, and I know.
- 12:36Speaker 4: And I'm sitting here and I'm like, I just told
- 12:39Speaker 4: her to talk about herself, and I know she's not
- 12:42Speaker 4: gonna do that, so let me come on.
- 12:46Speaker 3: On here so I can not her and to share
- 12:50Speaker 3: and tonight because she's y'all.
- 12:53Speaker 4: When I tell y'all, a lady that wears many hats,
- 12:58Speaker 4: a other six, a grandmother, a professor.
- 13:09Speaker 3: A a A, a.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Natural path and the least go on and on and
- 13:19Speaker 4: I and I cannot give her.
- 13:22Speaker 3: I just can't do it right.
- 13:24Speaker 4: So I don't even want to introduce her because I
- 13:27Speaker 4: know I messed up.
- 13:29Speaker 8: No, it's from your heart, nocess. It's really important that
- 13:34Speaker 8: how we engage with each other, especially through the space
- 13:37Speaker 8: of being creative artists. Just what you said is enough
- 13:41Speaker 8: because no one here is looking for my CV I
- 13:44Speaker 8: hope not. But if you do want to see that,
- 13:47Speaker 8: that could be available via email. But that's not the
- 13:49Speaker 8: nature of this way that we're engaging. You know, we're
- 13:52Speaker 8: sharing who we are, what we bring to the table,
- 13:55Speaker 8: why our voices matter, and being a grandmother and of
- 13:59Speaker 8: itself is just bringing truth to light because we're carrying
- 14:03Speaker 8: on legacy. Being an author has been something that has
- 14:07Speaker 8: always been part of my journey because I was always
- 14:10Speaker 8: writing either for myself learning to copy edit for other persons,
- 14:14Speaker 8: you know, serving as a journalist in my professional realms
- 14:17Speaker 8: teaching communications and media and technology, you know, in an
- 14:22Speaker 8: academic space, and so there's like a fusion. It's one
- 14:25Speaker 8: thing to do writing for others or giving voice to others,
- 14:32Speaker 8: but it's a different realm when you get to share
- 14:34Speaker 8: it from your own space, from your own heart space.
- 14:36Speaker 8: So I'm very grateful to be able to be a
- 14:39Speaker 8: part of this. And as I've shared in the past,
- 14:42Speaker 8: yes I do things in the academic realm. I do
- 14:45Speaker 8: a lot of work that is guided to humanitarian efforts,
- 14:50Speaker 8: you know, really helping people, to help people, to help
- 14:53Speaker 8: people right. You know, I've had the honor and privilege
- 14:56Speaker 8: of delivering hundreds of children naturally, usually spaces that are
- 15:02Speaker 8: not fully equipped with the traditional quote unquote maternity care,
- 15:09Speaker 8: prenatal care, you know, for our women folk, and really
- 15:13Speaker 8: helping families to live well, to live naturally, irrespective of
- 15:18Speaker 8: whatever liquid wealth capital wealth that they might not have.
- 15:22Speaker 8: So some of my work, that's where the naturopathic holistic
- 15:25Speaker 8: element comes in, and not just here in the forty
- 15:29Speaker 8: eight contiguous US or even in the Caribbean America, as
- 15:32Speaker 8: a lot of my work does take me and keeps
- 15:35Speaker 8: me doing work and giving and being participatory to efforts
- 15:39Speaker 8: in the African continent. And it's not limited to a
- 15:43Speaker 8: resurgence of the enslavement experience. It's always about how do
- 15:48Speaker 8: we honor our women, our men, our children, our elders
- 15:55Speaker 8: in these communities, regardless of some of the challenges and
- 15:59Speaker 8: chaostical forward So a lot of my writing has been
- 16:02Speaker 8: through creative lens, whether it's to write place that give
- 16:07Speaker 8: people can handle the story of some of the issues
- 16:10Speaker 8: that have happened to people of African ancestry, through a play,
- 16:14Speaker 8: through a musical, through something that has a little humor
- 16:17Speaker 8: in it so that persons can at least take it
- 16:19Speaker 8: a liqulaito then the trauma that may be engaged, but
- 16:23Speaker 8: it's still a teaching tool. So some of my publications
- 16:28Speaker 8: have always been around doing writing prose that tell a legacy.
- 16:33Speaker 8: For example, I did a piece called Queens of Divergins.
- 16:37Speaker 8: When I first wrote this particular publication, it was just
- 16:41Speaker 8: called three Queens of the Virgin Islands because it was
- 16:44Speaker 8: literally the history and the legacy of the freedom fighting
- 16:48Speaker 8: women of Saint John, particularly Queen refew In seventeen thirty three,
- 16:54Speaker 8: an African woman that originally we thought came from West
- 16:57Speaker 8: Africa and Ghana later found out that she was actually
- 17:00Speaker 8: from a space in the interior closer to what is
- 17:04Speaker 8: now the Congo and parts of Angola and connected to
- 17:08Speaker 8: the Endongo Kingdom. She was captured. She was a freedom fighter,
- 17:12Speaker 8: a warrior queen. When she was captured, she was brought
- 17:16Speaker 8: again into Ghana, taken from Ghana across the Atlantic into
- 17:21Speaker 8: Saint Thomas, our sister island where I'm sitting now, from
- 17:24Speaker 8: Saint Croix, and they took her over to our smaller
- 17:27Speaker 8: island where it was more controlled, they thought. In the
- 17:31Speaker 8: seventeen thirties, and specifically seventeen thirty three, in the early
- 17:36Speaker 8: parts of the year, and by November twenty third, this
- 17:39Speaker 8: woman led a revolution that was one of the earlier
- 17:43Speaker 8: revolutions of colding the island of Saint John as an
- 17:47Speaker 8: independent African nation, flag and everything, and they were able
- 17:51Speaker 8: to hold on in the.
- 17:52Speaker 6: Midst of enslavement.
- 17:54Speaker 8: Just keep in mind the Danish were enslaving the Spanish War,
- 17:57Speaker 8: enslaving the English. It was a lot going on in
- 18:00Speaker 8: those areas, and this freedom fighting woman, alongside other royals.
- 18:05Speaker 8: You know, they referred to them as Kanta and Claus,
- 18:07Speaker 8: coming from other parts of the African continent. So I
- 18:10Speaker 8: was writing this story, and when I was writing it,
- 18:12Speaker 8: you know because you hear people talk about these things.
- 18:14Speaker 8: But then it forced me to have to go not
- 18:18Speaker 8: only into Saint John and look at the archives that
- 18:20Speaker 8: we have from Danish record, the academic side, and then
- 18:24Speaker 8: go to Ghana and look at that record. That's how
- 18:27Speaker 8: we found out that she was actually transported from the
- 18:30Speaker 8: interior of Africa. So it was like I used my
- 18:33Speaker 8: academic side alongside my creative side and created this play
- 18:39Speaker 8: that allowed us to have the actress maintain.
- 18:44Speaker 6: Character as if she was really her.
- 18:46Speaker 8: They called them chittaquas, right, So I did the same
- 18:50Speaker 8: thing for women of the Revolution of Labor, the Fireburn
- 18:55Speaker 8: of eighteen seventy eight, the Saint Kroid that was Queen Mary,
- 18:58Speaker 8: and then the first six that's for nonviolent protests in
- 19:02Speaker 8: Saint Thomas led by another woman, Queen Kaziah.
- 19:06Speaker 6: And so this piece was one of my early.
- 19:12Speaker 8: Journeys into authorship because I was attempting to find a
- 19:16Speaker 8: way to be able to tell stories in a creative way,
- 19:20Speaker 8: but to make sure that it wasn't just like make believe,
- 19:23Speaker 8: that it was grounded in authentic humanities and social science
- 19:27Speaker 8: research and studies, and it allowed me to have another
- 19:30Speaker 8: tool to use, another resource to use when I was
- 19:33Speaker 8: teaching my students or my children or my grandchildren. And
- 19:37Speaker 8: it ultimately has been expanded into a short film which
- 19:40Speaker 8: people are really trying to get me to produce as
- 19:43Speaker 8: a full film. So my authorship is multi is multi
- 19:47Speaker 8: pronged because some of these very research based and then
- 19:51Speaker 8: some of it is creative. People don't know it's you know,
- 19:55Speaker 8: it's just it's an opportunity for us to be able
- 19:57Speaker 8: to bring another layer of the work together. So I'll
- 20:00Speaker 8: use that one because there's other pieces. I mean, I
- 20:03Speaker 8: really didn't want to focus just on my academic writing,
- 20:07Speaker 8: especially after listening to Sister Queen Natalie. I better come
- 20:10Speaker 8: with some diversity on that.
- 20:12Speaker 3: I learned something new about you today that I didn't know.
- 20:15Speaker 6: Play right, Okay, yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 3: You never disclosed that play right?
- 20:22Speaker 8: Mm hmm.
- 20:23Speaker 6: I actually earned that Humanities Award for that.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Yeah, see another Humanities Award for a Playwrights Award for poetry.
- 20:34Speaker 3: And then you don't want me see what I've been
- 20:36Speaker 3: talking about see.
- 20:40Speaker 4: See see, I'll tell y'all, y'all have to know those
- 20:46Speaker 4: that labor amongst you.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Get to know those in your circle. It.
- 20:59Speaker 4: I didn't know you had all that in in in
- 21:02Speaker 4: the suitcase.
- 21:06Speaker 6: The backpack, backpack small small.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Mmm.
- 21:11Speaker 3: See you just close something new.
- 21:14Speaker 4: So now while you're sitting over there on the back
- 21:17Speaker 4: burner waiting to come back on, yeah, let me see
- 21:22Speaker 4: what I'm gonna be now, I got to bring him up. See, y'all,
- 21:26Speaker 4: see see what I y'all see what I've been talking about. Okay,
- 21:31Speaker 4: it's all fun. It's all fun. I love doctor Chen.
- 21:34Speaker 4: I didn't know that she was a playwright. See, I
- 21:37Speaker 4: learned something, I'm telling y'all. I really learned something about
- 21:40Speaker 4: this queen. Every time we get a chance to sit down, See,
- 21:43Speaker 4: we don't often get a chance to really sit.
- 21:46Speaker 6: Down and do this.
- 21:48Speaker 4: So I am really enjoying this because most of the
- 21:51Speaker 4: time I'm always the one that's behind the scenes making
- 21:55Speaker 4: sure that you know they're getting seen and.
- 21:58Speaker 5: They're able to to to to do this.
- 22:01Speaker 4: So I'm enjoying this because I'm learning something new about
- 22:07Speaker 4: a lot of these authors, a lot of these holds,
- 22:10Speaker 4: a lot of these amazing people like you.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I'm so glad you. I'm so glad you said.
- 22:18Speaker 8: Yes, and we're grateful that you gave us an opportunity
- 22:23Speaker 8: to be able to be in this type of collaboration.
- 22:27Speaker 6: This is powerful.
- 22:28Speaker 8: A lot of times we don't get an opportunity to
- 22:31Speaker 8: have these types of cross pollination, this synergy with persons
- 22:35Speaker 8: from different walks of life, different perspectives, you know, various
- 22:40Speaker 8: cultural traditions and various backgrounds, and it gives us an
- 22:45Speaker 8: opportunity to be able to expand and let the world
- 22:48Speaker 8: see the type of greatness, the type of resilience, the
- 22:53Speaker 8: type of creativity, and the power of prosperity, whether it's
- 22:57Speaker 8: in culture, healing, arts, technology, spirituality, whatever areas.
- 23:00Speaker 6: So we're always appreciative of being.
- 23:04Speaker 8: Able to bring this type of knowledge, not just knowledge,
- 23:08Speaker 8: but wisdom.
- 23:08Speaker 6: That's the word I was looking for, you know.
- 23:10Speaker 8: And give them thanks, you know, to the Almighty for
- 23:13Speaker 8: being able to bring us in this type of fusion.
- 23:15Speaker 6: I'm grateful.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, yes, while we're gonna move on and
- 23:21Speaker 4: bring up mister Zach and we're gonna bring you back
- 23:24Speaker 4: in a little while. We're gonna bring everybody together in
- 23:27Speaker 4: a little while, because y'all, we're gonna dive in this conversation.
- 23:30Speaker 5: So hold on, I'll bring you back back. I'm gonna
- 23:39Speaker 5: bring you back.
- 23:41Speaker 3: As soon as I get Zach ready. I should have
- 23:44Speaker 3: been getting you ready, but.
- 23:49Speaker 6: I was over here.
- 23:51Speaker 4: I was see she She caught me off guard because
- 23:53Speaker 4: she was talking about something I ain't know nothing about,
- 23:56Speaker 4: and I was.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Over here listening and taking notes because.
- 24:00Speaker 5: I'm gonna be ready.
- 24:01Speaker 2: M h.
- 24:03Speaker 8: M hmm.
- 24:06Speaker 4: That's okay. I don't know what happened to my other
- 24:10Speaker 4: pictures that, but that's okay. I'm gonna bring him up
- 24:13Speaker 4: on it.
- 24:14Speaker 3: On the red carpet. That's okay.
- 24:16Speaker 6: I bring him up on the red carpet.
- 24:18Speaker 3: That's okay. Come on in, Come on in, Zack.
- 24:23Speaker 2: You you want me to come behind that? You want
- 24:28Speaker 2: me to come behind like that? Hey, hey, listen, you
- 24:37Speaker 2: were writing. I was taking notes in my phone. Listen, listen, listen,
- 24:45Speaker 2: this just Adam on Laser top of Layers day. We're
- 24:48Speaker 2: gonna bring on Zack. You need to bring me on
- 24:50Speaker 2: no time. I just sit here.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Just listen.
- 24:59Speaker 3: You gotta tell everyone to who you are, so I had.
- 25:01Speaker 2: To bring you home.
- 25:02Speaker 5: Listen.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Oh my god, thanks for having me number one. So
- 25:06Speaker 2: my name is Zachary. I am from Chelestera, South Carolina,
- 25:09Speaker 2: the Geechee Galla place that you ever you know. I
- 25:12Speaker 2: am a poet first writer second. So the reason why
- 25:16Speaker 2: I said that because I like to have people listen
- 25:23Speaker 2: to what I have to say before I write it down.
- 25:27Speaker 2: And I just want to capture the moment on people
- 25:31Speaker 2: faces and how their impact on my words. So that's
- 25:35Speaker 2: why the reason why I said that first, and I
- 25:40Speaker 2: got a book out there called datut Emotion of the Journey.
- 25:44Speaker 2: And this is like a book called like it's look
- 25:48Speaker 2: said a therapy book for people who.
- 25:50Speaker 5: Was reading it.
- 25:51Speaker 2: It's all about heartbreaking, betrayal, loaning list. It got different
- 25:58Speaker 2: sections in it. So the reason why I started writing
- 26:01Speaker 2: this book because.
- 26:05Speaker 5: I was lost. I was lost, I was.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Heartbroken and I wanted to help somebody who feel the
- 26:13Speaker 2: same way I feel. And I didn't know where to
- 26:19Speaker 2: start at where too directly, like I ain't have no clue.
- 26:24Speaker 2: So one of my good friends said, just start writing,
- 26:26Speaker 2: just to start writing, start writing, start writing, start writing.
- 26:31Speaker 2: And I started writing, create this poetry book. And I
- 26:35Speaker 2: was like, how can I ask something different for somebody
- 26:40Speaker 2: who can read this, so before you start reading different
- 26:44Speaker 2: sections of the book, it's like a therapy. It's ask
- 26:47Speaker 2: you a bunch of questions before you realad and after
- 26:52Speaker 2: you read each poem, it asked you a couple other
- 26:55Speaker 2: questions afterwards. So it gets you really thinking who you
- 26:59Speaker 2: are or as a person.
- 27:02Speaker 5: It gets you.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Really thinking of thinking about your past or how you
- 27:05Speaker 2: grow up, or how people treated you. And it thinks
- 27:09Speaker 2: of you in the presence, and it thinks of you
- 27:11Speaker 2: how you moving on the future. And just to just
- 27:17Speaker 2: be in this movement is it's so amazing because I
- 27:22Speaker 2: don't get this opportunity a lot, like just being from
- 27:26Speaker 2: my generation, on my part of Generation z E, we
- 27:29Speaker 2: don't get this a lot of importation and just to
- 27:32Speaker 2: connect with different people around the world.
- 27:35Speaker 5: So I'm very grateful for that.
- 27:37Speaker 2: And especially we are celebrating Black History Month like well,
- 27:44Speaker 2: we celebrate Black History Month like thirty six seven every
- 27:47Speaker 2: single day.
- 27:49Speaker 5: But to just.
- 27:50Speaker 2: To have this moment and have this Black movement and
- 27:55Speaker 2: showing that we can't do anything we put our mind to.
- 28:00Speaker 4: M hmm.
- 28:01Speaker 2: That means we can write, we can speak, we can cook,
- 28:05Speaker 2: we can clean, we can pick anything that we can
- 28:07Speaker 2: do put our mind through and for me, I choose
- 28:12Speaker 2: to write, I choose to use my words in different
- 28:16Speaker 2: ways that can help people down their.
- 28:18Speaker 5: Way if they get stuck.
- 28:21Speaker 2: So yeah, but like just having those two other ladies speak.
- 28:25Speaker 5: Before me, I learn a lot just just then. I
- 28:29Speaker 5: really learned a lot.
- 28:32Speaker 2: And like I'm saying, continue learning a lot during this
- 28:35Speaker 2: conversation because baby, like you said, I was just listened
- 28:38Speaker 2: to her and I'm trying to write this thing down
- 28:41Speaker 2: like speaks some more speaks. The more we need this,
- 28:43Speaker 2: especially like my generation, we definitely need this. So yeah,
- 28:48Speaker 2: that's a little that's a little bit. So that's a
- 28:50Speaker 2: little bit.
- 28:50Speaker 5: It's something about me.
- 28:53Speaker 4: But we're gonna jump on in this conversation. It is
- 28:58Speaker 4: Black History Month and with all that's going on, don't
- 29:04Speaker 4: want to make it political, but with all that's going on,
- 29:11Speaker 4: I d e, I, oh gosh, what what what?
- 29:17Speaker 3: What?
- 29:18Speaker 4: I want to know what that? And that was that
- 29:21Speaker 4: just popped in my head. That was not that was
- 29:23Speaker 4: not one of the questions. I don't think that was
- 29:26Speaker 4: one of the questions. But d e, I, that's something
- 29:29Speaker 4: that I've been seeing.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Floating around all of the social media sites. What does
- 29:37Speaker 3: that word mean to you?
- 29:41Speaker 5: Guys.
- 29:42Speaker 4: I'm gonna share before I go around and let you
- 29:46Speaker 4: guys share what that means to you, because when everybody
- 29:50Speaker 4: kept talking about this, it was just like my spirit
- 29:53Speaker 4: kept saying, why is you even listening to that? Because
- 30:00Speaker 4: you are divinely purposed, so you you ain't got to
- 30:06Speaker 4: worry about that. And then if you if you say
- 30:09Speaker 4: that you trust and you believe the Word, then that
- 30:12Speaker 4: Jeremiah twenty nine and eleven sums it up because he
- 30:15Speaker 4: already said, he declared that he had a plan for you,
- 30:19Speaker 4: so we ain't even got to question that. So divine,
- 30:22Speaker 4: divinely purposed, So that's shit, D and E.
- 30:29Speaker 3: The E what did he give me for the E?
- 30:34Speaker 3: Oh empowerment?
- 30:38Speaker 4: We we we we we as we empower ourselves, we
- 30:45Speaker 4: empower those around.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Us, and we be intentional.
- 30:52Speaker 4: The things that he's called us to. According to Jeremiah
- 30:55Speaker 4: twenty nine and eleven, he does a plan. So if
- 30:58Speaker 4: there's a plan, then guess what. But faith with that
- 31:01Speaker 4: works is dead. And that's what the words, So the
- 31:04Speaker 4: word say that we gotta we gotta be intentional about
- 31:08Speaker 4: those things. So that's what y'all doing tonight. Y'all are
- 31:11Speaker 4: being intentional about your legacy. You're being intentional about those
- 31:15Speaker 4: things that that you were purpose to do, that you
- 31:19Speaker 4: know that you were called to do. So that that
- 31:21Speaker 4: That's what I want to hear about. What does d
- 31:25Speaker 4: e I mean to you? Because when they say it
- 31:30Speaker 4: was being took away, it didn't phaze me? So did
- 31:35Speaker 4: did did it? Did it fade? Who did it phase
- 31:38Speaker 4: on the panel? Did it phase anybody on the panel?
- 31:41Speaker 4: It phased you?
- 31:43Speaker 5: It didn't quickly face me.
- 31:45Speaker 2: It FA's like a lot of people around me, And
- 31:47Speaker 2: it does affect a lot of people around me because
- 31:50Speaker 2: those like d I opening doors for a lot of
- 31:55Speaker 2: people for you for the script out of way, and
- 31:58Speaker 2: a lot of people lost their jobs, especially some of
- 32:01Speaker 2: my friends that I know it hurts because we could
- 32:07Speaker 2: not go in and be like, Okay, this person could
- 32:10Speaker 2: be better than us and we don't even have a
- 32:13Speaker 2: chance because they don't look like me. And just for
- 32:20Speaker 2: him just to erase all that and just based off America.
- 32:23Speaker 2: It is so wrong because now it's setting me back
- 32:27Speaker 2: and some of my friends like, we don't have we
- 32:30Speaker 2: we it's like we can't compete.
- 32:32Speaker 5: In the room.
- 32:34Speaker 2: And I know that's hard for saying that we have
- 32:38Speaker 2: a chance back for like, think about it, we don't
- 32:40Speaker 2: have a chance in the room because people we don't
- 32:44Speaker 2: have people to look like us in the room. And
- 32:47Speaker 2: I feel like we have to fight more to just
- 32:51Speaker 2: even getting in the door, not sitting down with them,
- 32:56Speaker 2: just to even just like getting the door. That's even hard.
- 33:01Speaker 2: So that's how I feel about you know, d I.
- 33:05Speaker 4: So while I'm talking to them, I want you to
- 33:09Speaker 4: think about because we we we share and then we're
- 33:14Speaker 4: at this point, so now what do we do about
- 33:16Speaker 4: it that I want you to think about?
- 33:18Speaker 3: Now?
- 33:19Speaker 1: What?
- 33:21Speaker 7: So I'm going to follow up with you Angela in
- 33:26Speaker 7: the respect that if you say that you are a
- 33:29Speaker 7: follower of Christ, you can't you can't let this get
- 33:32Speaker 7: to you because it is. It's a depressing situation that
- 33:38Speaker 7: we're going through. It's easy to get caught up in
- 33:40Speaker 7: all the negativity, but you have got to stand on
- 33:43Speaker 7: God's word that he has a plan and everything is
- 33:48Speaker 7: going to work out for our good.
- 33:50Speaker 3: So exactly, I hear you.
- 33:52Speaker 7: It's affecting people around me in the sense that people
- 33:56Speaker 7: are losing their jobs. That's that is heartbreaking. That is
- 33:59Speaker 7: our heartbreaking because with everything being as high as it
- 34:04Speaker 7: is already people are barely making it now, so He's
- 34:07Speaker 7: just made it that much harder. But we have got
- 34:10Speaker 7: to stand on the world of God. And that's where
- 34:13Speaker 7: I am, because if I let myself get caught up,
- 34:17Speaker 7: I'm gonna be depressed. I'm gonna be stressed, and that's
- 34:21Speaker 7: not what God has for me. So that's where I
- 34:25Speaker 7: am on the whole Dee.
- 34:26Speaker 3: I think.
- 34:29Speaker 8: I have a very similar perspective because of where I
- 34:35Speaker 8: sit in the daytime, which is probably why many persons
- 34:39Speaker 8: in my non gen Z generation are in a stress mood.
- 34:48Speaker 8: If you don't have strength in your spiritual groundings. Some
- 34:57Speaker 8: persons use that term faith, some persons use the term
- 35:03Speaker 8: my arts, some persons use that phrase that's really grounding
- 35:10Speaker 8: to all that the Creator gives you if you're not
- 35:13Speaker 8: in a place of strength. And I'd like persons to
- 35:15Speaker 8: recognize that all of these things that have happened to
- 35:18Speaker 8: interfere with DEI and for those in the back of
- 35:20Speaker 8: the room, the diversity, equity, inclusion piece, this is something
- 35:24Speaker 8: that we were doing as humans before they called it DEI.
- 35:30Speaker 6: We already knew.
- 35:31Speaker 8: About balance and justice and righteousness and order, and it
- 35:38Speaker 8: wasn't just equality because equality isn't always the quest. It
- 35:43Speaker 8: was so that persons would have that equitable distribution of wealth,
- 35:48Speaker 8: that equitable distribution of education, that equitable distribution of belonging right.
- 35:57Speaker 8: Because what is happening now is another form and I
- 36:02Speaker 8: speak truth to power when I say this, but it's
- 36:05Speaker 8: a very very deep form of trauma, very deep form
- 36:10Speaker 8: of an institutional intentional enslavement of our very body, mind, soul,
- 36:18Speaker 8: spirit and consciousness. If we let it do that, absolutely,
- 36:23Speaker 8: the more that we keep ourselves grounded, you know, as
- 36:26Speaker 8: you've shared and that word and that journey that tried,
- 36:29Speaker 8: that walk of Christ. You say Christ, I say kiosk right,
- 36:35Speaker 8: some people say yes you are so you know, there's
- 36:37Speaker 8: like the names, but the essence is that we are
- 36:39Speaker 8: walking in divine light, protected by a creator that keeps
- 36:44Speaker 8: illumination at the center of our protection. And if we
- 36:48Speaker 8: forget that, which is easy to forget because you can't
- 36:51Speaker 8: afford to buy food, you have to choose between buying mediciation,
- 36:55Speaker 8: sending the turan with the resources they need to in school,
- 37:01Speaker 8: or pay rent or which bill will you delete?
- 37:05Speaker 6: Will it be the cable which is easy to let go.
- 37:07Speaker 8: But yeah, like things like electricity, clean water, your sewage,
- 37:13Speaker 8: your wayt management issues and rent and least or mortgage
- 37:17Speaker 8: or whatever. If you're worried about just existing in your
- 37:21Speaker 8: day to day, it becomes very challenging to then deal
- 37:25Speaker 8: with this next trauma and this next chaos where persons
- 37:30Speaker 8: are questioning the very rights, human rights, inalienable rights that
- 37:37Speaker 8: we as people of African ascent not gonna keep coming
- 37:40Speaker 8: back to that. I'm so grateful that we're doing this
- 37:43Speaker 8: during the quote unquote band Black History Art. How you
- 37:48Speaker 8: gonna ban something you didn't start? How you going what
- 37:52Speaker 8: kind of authority? And again, yes, you sit in that
- 37:56Speaker 8: potus chair and you have some armor bearers that support,
- 38:00Speaker 8: but you don't have the authority, the right, and you
- 38:05Speaker 8: should not exercise such a privilege and a protocol to
- 38:11Speaker 8: dismantle something that preceded you by decades and scores, right,
- 38:18Speaker 8: And I think it's a it's a disregard to the
- 38:20Speaker 8: very humanity of our of our of our communities, of
- 38:24Speaker 8: our families. This is to what else can we do
- 38:27Speaker 8: to dismantle the families of African people. We're done and
- 38:31Speaker 8: slave them? They okay, they survived that, all right, we
- 38:34Speaker 8: don't mash them up. Okay, they survived that. All right,
- 38:37Speaker 8: we don't interfere with their formulation of their spiritual religious engagements. Okay,
- 38:42Speaker 8: but they survived that. To wait, we take all their money.
- 38:46Speaker 8: They survived that. To wait, we didn't give them land.
- 38:49Speaker 8: We teeth that land. We still teeth in that land,
- 38:52Speaker 8: and bulldozing people's homes and places like Costa Rica as
- 38:56Speaker 8: we speak to black people and mind you and then
- 38:59Speaker 8: you're saying you want to take over the Panama Canal
- 39:01Speaker 8: in twenty twenty five, saying.
- 39:04Speaker 6: But you worry't about a while, you worry't about a
- 39:08Speaker 6: anyway I could.
- 39:09Speaker 5: And it's not.
- 39:11Speaker 8: Because I could do this one as a political it's
- 39:14Speaker 8: just the truth of how do we restore our humanity?
- 39:19Speaker 6: You know we are?
- 39:20Speaker 8: And then to then aggravate things in the African continent
- 39:24Speaker 8: in places where there was a quest for peace. You
- 39:27Speaker 8: see people trying to get over very hostile, very terrorist
- 39:34Speaker 8: driven activities. When you see them starting to put the
- 39:38Speaker 8: Creator and the word of the Creator at the center
- 39:41Speaker 8: of establishing peace, you're gonna still throw another set of
- 39:45Speaker 8: bombs and trauma at them. That's like, that's no longer human. Yeah,
- 39:51Speaker 8: So I agree, yea. I tend to see that DEI piece,
- 39:56Speaker 8: that's just one of them, you know, But it's the DEI,
- 40:00Speaker 8: the land, theft, the If you say anything that's anti Semitic,
- 40:03Speaker 8: what about anything that's anti African. If you want to
- 40:06Speaker 8: talk about we can't say nothing about Israel and genocide,
- 40:09Speaker 8: then you should be saying we don't appreciate genocide anywhere.
- 40:12Speaker 8: How about that? Like, you should be consistent. You can't
- 40:16Speaker 8: just pick one over the other. You can't just pick
- 40:19Speaker 8: up all the black and brown people and say that
- 40:21Speaker 8: they're supposed to be deported and some of them never
- 40:24Speaker 8: ever live in the places that you deported them to,
- 40:27Speaker 8: like one in this country called the US. That means
- 40:31Speaker 8: you should stop singing the Pledge of Allegiance. You should
- 40:34Speaker 8: stop talking about liberty, freedom and justice for all. You
- 40:37Speaker 8: should just smash down this little constitution. You keep making
- 40:41Speaker 8: people think that you amend and now you're trying to
- 40:43Speaker 8: take away the amendments to a document that allowed you
- 40:48Speaker 8: to be in a position you're in. So I'm just
- 40:50Speaker 8: suggesting strongly. I usually don't bring these particular things up
- 40:55Speaker 8: because people it becomes, you know, very challenging to some.
- 40:59Speaker 8: But when we our authors, when we are doing was
- 41:03Speaker 8: that put pen to pay a bond.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Mm hmmm.
- 41:07Speaker 8: It's our responsibility to bring truth to power and to
- 41:13Speaker 8: keep the word, as you say of God, I say
- 41:16Speaker 8: of Netada, of the word of the Creator at the
- 41:20Speaker 8: center of what we're bringing to the to the table,
- 41:23Speaker 8: so that that way, even when people read what we write,
- 41:26Speaker 8: they still have not just hope, not just faith, but
- 41:30Speaker 8: they have like a lifelong eternal resolve that what they're
- 41:34Speaker 8: doing over there, that's the distraction lead them over. So
- 41:38Speaker 8: you know, how you say Satan not today, how you
- 41:42Speaker 8: say the wicked arrow, go back to sender that one.
- 41:48Speaker 8: You know, the I'll yield on that one.
- 41:55Speaker 4: I'm just saying, I mean you you nail did you
- 41:58Speaker 4: every you hit everything the head?
- 42:01Speaker 3: I mean you did that?
- 42:03Speaker 4: And just thinking, like I send out some questions that
- 42:08Speaker 4: I may ask, and just sitting here looking at the questions,
- 42:12Speaker 4: I was like, man, this man is wiping away everything.
- 42:17Speaker 4: One of the questions was reflected on legacy left by
- 42:21Speaker 4: prominent figures in Black history. How do you envision your
- 42:25Speaker 4: work to your work contributing to broadening the narrative that
- 42:30Speaker 4: they've left, like Martin Luther King, like all those that
- 42:37Speaker 4: have come before us, that they are now wanting to
- 42:40Speaker 4: wipe away with the wiping away of the civil rights.
- 42:45Speaker 4: I mean what I mean, what more than a slap
- 42:49Speaker 4: in the face to all of us, you know, and
- 42:54Speaker 4: even the ones of us that looked.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Like us that voted for this man.
- 42:59Speaker 4: God, you know, it's so many that and proudly voted
- 43:04Speaker 4: for and and and now it's like a slap in
- 43:12Speaker 4: the face because now he's slapping you.
- 43:15Speaker 3: He like going left and right in your face, telling you.
- 43:19Speaker 4: That he don't care when he already told you before.
- 43:23Speaker 4: But you're still voted for him, right. So I want
- 43:27Speaker 4: to know how important it's being an author right now
- 43:32Speaker 4: in this season for y'all?
- 43:35Speaker 3: What is that?
- 43:35Speaker 4: I mean, being an author right now in that season
- 43:39Speaker 4: and having all this stuff that's going on. How important
- 43:42Speaker 4: is being an author being able to leave your voice
- 43:44Speaker 4: to y'all?
- 43:46Speaker 7: It's a ultimate I mean, he may be he may
- 43:50Speaker 7: be wiping away what's on paper, but what's in our
- 43:54Speaker 7: heart and in our spirit, he can't touch that exactly.
- 43:57Speaker 7: So when we put that on paper and we get
- 44:00Speaker 7: it out to the world, we pass that on to
- 44:02Speaker 7: our children, then there's nothing he can do. He can talk,
- 44:07Speaker 7: but he can't he cannot crush what's inside of us, right.
- 44:14Speaker 8: I echo that because there's a lot that is being
- 44:17Speaker 8: shared from and it's intergenerational sharing, and there's some elders
- 44:23Speaker 8: that are just so overwhelmed. Like I was sharing that
- 44:26Speaker 8: with one of my family members earlier today, there's just
- 44:29Speaker 8: some persons. You know, you see them at services, you
- 44:32Speaker 8: know you have certain fellowship with them, and there it's
- 44:35Speaker 8: almost like a despondence. And this was intentional to if
- 44:39Speaker 8: we can't break their spirit, then we're gonna break their bank.
- 44:42Speaker 8: We're gonna threaten it. If you say the wrong thing,
- 44:44Speaker 8: if you right the wrong thing, if you express what
- 44:48Speaker 8: we say, whatever we is because it's not just him,
- 44:52Speaker 8: like one of the things that's you know how they
- 44:54Speaker 8: like to say that this is the leader and this
- 44:55Speaker 8: is the person of source. Make sure I say this
- 45:01Speaker 8: in the most diplomatic way possible. He doesn't possess the
- 45:05Speaker 8: skilled talent or expertise to be the formulator of many
- 45:08Speaker 8: of the things he's doing.
- 45:11Speaker 6: There's an entire institutional machinery.
- 45:15Speaker 8: Multiple persons, that facility and allow that head plice that
- 45:19Speaker 8: sits in that potish chair to appear XYZ. So I
- 45:23Speaker 8: want to give some disclosure I have, like all of us,
- 45:27Speaker 8: we have family members that were out there supporting that
- 45:31Speaker 8: party have As a matter of fact, it created hostility
- 45:36Speaker 8: inside of our bloodlines in a way that was really
- 45:40Speaker 8: unprecedented for many because we were like, but why are
- 45:43Speaker 8: you questioning democracy forgetting that? To some people, not all,
- 45:48Speaker 8: but to some people, democracy has been being challenged, not
- 45:53Speaker 8: just with him, but before him, a lot of challenges
- 45:57Speaker 8: on what is this authentic democratic policy principle, et cetera.
- 46:03Speaker 6: And through our writing, the more that.
- 46:06Speaker 8: We start to assess give that narrative offer perspective on
- 46:12Speaker 8: what is democracy really, what is capitalism really, what is
- 46:18Speaker 8: imperialism really? And what is things like you know, various
- 46:22Speaker 8: policy zionism Aparthey, you know all these different ism thingies
- 46:27Speaker 8: that came up. Notice that none of the things I
- 46:29Speaker 8: mentioned were grounded in What we started with is a
- 46:33Speaker 8: way of us healing ourselves through spiritual acuity, strengthening our
- 46:40Speaker 8: knowledge base in the creator right. If we just stayed
- 46:44Speaker 8: on that space, we would probably not you know, we
- 46:47Speaker 8: would see these things happening. We've seen crazy, We've had
- 46:50Speaker 8: crazy people in the poste chair before.
- 46:52Speaker 6: This isn't the first time.
- 46:53Speaker 8: It's just that it's like we're seeing it live and direct,
- 46:56Speaker 8: and it's like a it's like a slide show.
- 46:58Speaker 6: You know, you look at the White House dot Go website.
- 47:00Speaker 6: You know in the.
- 47:01Speaker 8: Past you saw activities that were going to happen in
- 47:05Speaker 8: proclamations from previous presidents and so forth. Now it's just
- 47:08Speaker 8: like a slide show of to me by me, I was.
- 47:11Speaker 8: I was In twelve hours, we watched an entire website
- 47:17Speaker 8: just get turned to some kind of like Facebook X
- 47:20Speaker 8: media show. And contrast to helping the people in the
- 47:25Speaker 8: United States to be aware and clear of the activities
- 47:30Speaker 8: of the executive branch, the judicial brands, and the legislative
- 47:34Speaker 8: all of that changed. And that's okay because it's their
- 47:38Speaker 8: time to shine. This is who the majority of the
- 47:41Speaker 8: electorate in the country shows. Yeah, and see, now I
- 47:48Speaker 8: get to I get to claim a little bit of
- 47:51Speaker 8: And I have to give that disclaimer too, although I
- 47:54Speaker 8: reside in a unincorporated, non self governing territory, make sure
- 47:59Speaker 8: you hear what I'm saying of the United States real
- 48:03Speaker 8: world colony. In twenty twenty five, in the most expensive
- 48:09Speaker 8: real estate per acre at the United States of America
- 48:13Speaker 8: ever purchased I just want to highlight that in these
- 48:16Speaker 8: Virgin Islands, twenty five million dollars not in dollar money,
- 48:20Speaker 8: not in fiat, in gold in nineteen sixteen, if the
- 48:24Speaker 8: purchase took place nineteen seventeen, the actual activity happened, right,
- 48:31Speaker 8: and people still celebrate this. So we don't get to
- 48:35Speaker 8: vote for the president of the United States. Wow, but
- 48:40Speaker 8: selective registration. Our people are in the military and have
- 48:44Speaker 8: to support whatever the sitting president desires. Just a point
- 48:48Speaker 8: of information. Have a representative in Congress, right, and she's
- 48:54Speaker 8: doing what is in her best and she's trained and
- 48:57Speaker 8: skilled for that position. Yeah, but she cannot vote on
- 49:00Speaker 8: the US Congressional floor.
- 49:02Speaker 5: Oh wow.
- 49:03Speaker 2: And just to add on top of that, you know,
- 49:07Speaker 2: I think as an author is our due, it's our
- 49:10Speaker 2: duty to make sure we get our message across mm
- 49:14Speaker 2: hm exactly and being intentional what you mean. And even
- 49:21Speaker 2: with this society, even with all the stuff that goes
- 49:23Speaker 2: on around especially January, do I feel like January, what's
- 49:28Speaker 2: the longest money.
- 49:29Speaker 5: I've ever been in?
- 49:33Speaker 2: But we just can't get sidetracked is what's really important.
- 49:39Speaker 2: And I think a lot of people, like us, we
- 49:41Speaker 2: get sidetracked like, oh this happened, This happened, that happened.
- 49:45Speaker 2: We have to mean focus, We have to mean like
- 49:49Speaker 2: what is important to us. And as writers when we
- 49:53Speaker 2: put things on paper, we have to be intentional what
- 49:55Speaker 2: we are doing.
- 49:59Speaker 5: And who we are reaching to.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Like I said, like, yeah, black history just this one money,
- 50:05Speaker 2: but I said, black history is every single day.
- 50:08Speaker 6: That's right.
- 50:10Speaker 8: Day.
- 50:16Speaker 2: Not forget that, like even like for me, I want
- 50:21Speaker 2: to pass the baton to my next generation who's behind,
- 50:25Speaker 2: who's going to be in in front of me, to
- 50:28Speaker 2: be like, hey, keep writing, don't let this stop you
- 50:31Speaker 2: because before before me, there was a lot of great
- 50:33Speaker 2: writers who passed the baton to me. And I want
- 50:36Speaker 2: to pass baton to you and I want you to
- 50:39Speaker 2: keep writing. Don't stop because they are taking away so
- 50:44Speaker 2: many rights, are so many laws are banning whatever he's
- 50:48Speaker 2: doing that he's thinking it's fit.
- 50:51Speaker 5: Yeah. They started.
- 50:52Speaker 4: They started by taking little books out of here, taking
- 50:56Speaker 4: little books.
- 50:56Speaker 5: Out of there.
- 50:58Speaker 2: You can't do that, but you can see you can.
- 51:03Speaker 4: And so they took and curse it right now, so
- 51:08Speaker 4: children don't know how to sign their names no more.
- 51:11Speaker 4: They they took social studies out, so kids don't know
- 51:18Speaker 4: where they're going.
- 51:18Speaker 3: They just out here, just ryding, just going.
- 51:21Speaker 4: If they say it's north, you could be going south
- 51:24Speaker 4: because they don't know because they don't took they don't
- 51:27Speaker 4: took everything out and and and they don't lie and
- 51:30Speaker 4: and and told us that that this is this and
- 51:33Speaker 4: this is that. And then you go and you find
- 51:36Speaker 4: you you research it yourself. It's totally different from what
- 51:39Speaker 4: they told you. They want to tell you that we
- 51:45Speaker 4: came from some some some some.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Apes and chains.
- 51:49Speaker 4: And you you don't want to to give the real
- 51:55Speaker 4: history to our kids because you say it's causing y'all
- 51:58Speaker 4: kids trauma. But what about the trauma that we that
- 52:03Speaker 4: we was caused, that this happened to us, so the trauma.
- 52:08Speaker 3: We endure, but want to you want to take everything
- 52:13Speaker 3: away from our kids.
- 52:14Speaker 4: You don't want our kids to know their history because
- 52:17Speaker 4: it's causing trauma to the ones that cause the trauma.
- 52:21Speaker 3: I don't get that.
- 52:23Speaker 2: I think for that and just to I think it's
- 52:26Speaker 2: our responsibility, right even though they moved the books and
- 52:30Speaker 2: everything outside of the classroom, is our responsibility to tell
- 52:35Speaker 2: our history and what we learned, Like it's our responsibility,
- 52:41Speaker 2: like I said a pastor baton, like the race the
- 52:44Speaker 2: history is never relates like you can write all these
- 52:48Speaker 2: They could burn all the books down in the world,
- 52:50Speaker 2: take it out, whatever they could do with it. But
- 52:52Speaker 2: like I said, it's our responsibilities to tell the story
- 52:55Speaker 2: before us.
- 52:56Speaker 4: It's it's our responsibility to make sure that our kids
- 52:58Speaker 4: are being educated because it's not happening within the school system.
- 53:03Speaker 3: That's what the school system is designed for the school system.
- 53:08Speaker 4: If you if and and and I look back over
- 53:11Speaker 4: all the the all the years that I went to school,
- 53:15Speaker 4: and I was one of the like they they never
- 53:17Speaker 4: taught us anything but how to go and work in
- 53:20Speaker 4: somebody job. How they were developing us to go work
- 53:23Speaker 4: in plants and meals in my area. I'm gonna save
- 53:26Speaker 4: my area because I'm from a place where everybody I
- 53:30Speaker 4: could say, all my family, because that's where everybody at.
- 53:33Speaker 4: I'm I'm outside of the norm because I didn't do it.
- 53:36Speaker 4: I said I wasn't gonna do it, and I stepped
- 53:38Speaker 4: outside and I didn't. But everybody else they retire from
- 53:41Speaker 4: these plants, and then they they want to go see
- 53:44Speaker 4: which plant they can go work in to make the most.
- 53:47Speaker 3: And and and and it's the which one you can
- 53:50Speaker 3: get in.
- 53:51Speaker 4: I mean, that's the BMW, Bibo, all the Fortune five
- 53:56Speaker 4: hundred companies. These are the plants that they trying to
- 53:58Speaker 4: get in in my area. But I was not competing
- 54:01Speaker 4: for that. But that's what they teach our kids. And
- 54:04Speaker 4: they're not teaching our kids how to be entrepreneurs. They're
- 54:07Speaker 4: not teaching them how to to to invest. They're not
- 54:13Speaker 4: teaching them how to do nothing but to to help
- 54:19Speaker 4: somebody else chase their dream and not chase their own dream.
- 54:25Speaker 3: That that's what they're they're teaching our.
- 54:27Speaker 6: Kids, and that's that's that's.
- 54:29Speaker 3: What I have. That's what I've observed. Now, what have
- 54:33Speaker 3: you observed?
- 54:35Speaker 8: See I've seen? Okay, I always start with the area
- 54:39Speaker 8: of disclosure. So I was very fortunate to have parents
- 54:42Speaker 8: that used to let me loosen libraries and let me
- 54:47Speaker 8: read everything in the children's section until I got bored,
- 54:51Speaker 8: and they would grant me permission to go into certain
- 54:53Speaker 8: sections because some of the it was some trash in
- 54:56Speaker 8: the adult section. So my parents were very particular learn
- 55:00Speaker 8: what I was allowed to read, et cetera.
- 55:02Speaker 6: But they gave me things.
- 55:03Speaker 8: And I'd like to go back to the peace on
- 55:07Speaker 8: the children and what we're what our responsibility is to
- 55:11Speaker 8: teach them, and hence you have parents like myself. I
- 55:15Speaker 8: do not homeschool my grandchildren yet, but I homeschooled my
- 55:19Speaker 8: birth children because I knew that there were certain things
- 55:24Speaker 8: that were going to be challenging for them in the
- 55:27Speaker 8: public or even a private school setting. Right but even
- 55:31Speaker 8: in a limited small space. It's only eighty four square
- 55:34Speaker 8: miles the island of Saint Pour, so we're very small,
- 55:38Speaker 8: and I knew that there was going to be some issues.
- 55:41Speaker 8: But that didn't mean that I didn't give them that
- 55:43Speaker 8: opportunity to be able to socialize. Those that know my children,
- 55:47Speaker 8: they're probably more social than they need to be. But
- 55:50Speaker 8: that I've been able to help other families to know
- 55:54Speaker 8: how to engage with homeschool and we started a Virgin
- 55:57Speaker 8: Islands Homeschooling and Natural Educators and Sociation, so the parents
- 56:02Speaker 8: that were homeschooling would actually be more proficient and have
- 56:06Speaker 8: the support from educators to help educate our children in
- 56:11Speaker 8: the areas. You know, some of our families were Muslim,
- 56:14Speaker 8: so they didn't have a Muslim school at that time here.
- 56:17Speaker 8: Once they got that, then many of them moved into that.
- 56:20Speaker 6: Some of our.
- 56:21Speaker 8: Children are part of the Rastafari community and it was
- 56:25Speaker 8: a challenge for them. There were times where children that
- 56:28Speaker 8: had lucks even now, they couldn't go to public or
- 56:31Speaker 8: even private schools, right, so we had to find ways
- 56:35Speaker 8: to assist them and the content. Like I tell persons,
- 56:39Speaker 8: I'm not interested in doing a Eurocentric form of education
- 56:43Speaker 8: for children that are African ascendants, right. We have to
- 56:48Speaker 8: give them a very wholesome, a very wide, a very
- 56:52Speaker 8: global type of education. You can't use the British infantry
- 56:56Speaker 8: system and think it's going to educate Those systems were
- 56:58Speaker 8: not designed to educate our children, and that's something that
- 57:03Speaker 8: we tend to overlook. So I wanted to come back
- 57:05Speaker 8: to this. What we now know is the Association for
- 57:08Speaker 8: the Study of African American Life and History, which used
- 57:12Speaker 8: to be the Negro the Association for the Study of
- 57:16Speaker 8: Negro Life, et cetera, et cetera. These are the things
- 57:19Speaker 8: that doctor Carter G. Woodson, the founding formulator of black history.
- 57:25Speaker 8: At one point it was Negro History Week, then it
- 57:28Speaker 8: became Negro History Month, then it expanded into various associations.
- 57:33Speaker 8: It wasn't only the Black History Month. The designation that
- 57:38Speaker 8: he should be remembered for wasn't only his publication, The
- 57:41Speaker 8: Miseducation of the Negro.
- 57:43Speaker 6: He was about black people publishing.
- 57:46Speaker 8: So for us to be sitting here talking about authors
- 57:49Speaker 8: and authorship during Black History Month, we're doing exactly what
- 57:54Speaker 8: our forefathers and great achievers like doctor Carter G. Woodson
- 57:59Speaker 8: formulated way back in the early parts of the twentieth century.
- 58:04Speaker 8: And it's our responsibility to add that layer of how
- 58:08Speaker 8: we engage, how we compose, how we publish, how we distribute,
- 58:14Speaker 8: how we market, how do we give our own entrepreneurial
- 58:18Speaker 8: twang or niche, whatever you'll technique, your strategy to this
- 58:24Speaker 8: entire movement, so that our authorship that persons not only
- 58:28Speaker 8: are going to look for what we're producing, not that
- 58:31Speaker 8: they're gonna just criticize it. They will critique, but they're
- 58:35Speaker 8: going to benefit and assist us in getting that message.
- 58:38Speaker 8: These messages plural out, whether it's a romantic novel, whether
- 58:43Speaker 8: it's a self help book, whether it's a historical publication,
- 58:47Speaker 8: whether it's a play.
- 58:48Speaker 6: Whatever we produce.
- 58:50Speaker 8: We are creating a pathway for persons to really engage
- 58:54Speaker 8: and support this level of excellence, this level of edification,
- 59:00Speaker 8: not just education and not just schooling, but edification where
- 59:04Speaker 8: we're helping people to invoke and evoke the levels of
- 59:08Speaker 8: excellence that take us into these future generations, regardless of
- 59:12Speaker 8: gen Z, general, millennial whatever. Yeah, yeah, I think I
- 59:18Speaker 8: can yield there.
- 59:25Speaker 2: Like I said, girl, I'm taking notes over here, like
- 59:27Speaker 2: what she's saying.
- 59:28Speaker 8: I'm gonna send. I'm gonna send you what I'm reading from.
- 59:31Speaker 8: That's how that's how we do. That's you know, there's
- 59:34Speaker 8: a technique to a lot of this, because there's I mean,
- 59:37Speaker 8: we would as we're speaking. It's just making me remember
- 59:41Speaker 8: persons like doctor A. Shillier the third, May he rest
- 59:44Speaker 8: in peace, in his name be honored whenever it's spoken,
- 59:47Speaker 8: because he spoke to this, he wrote a curricula and
- 59:51Speaker 8: publications and handbooks. And see, that's what many people are
- 59:55Speaker 8: starting to glean from. So even though this chaos in
- 59:59Speaker 8: the midst of the body politic really is designed to
- 1:00:03Speaker 8: traumatize and make everybody become so desponded that they don't function,
- 1:00:08Speaker 8: we have to fast from that and move with that
- 1:00:13Speaker 8: focus into what we know and have been ordained to
- 1:00:18Speaker 8: implement and make it so that we have actionable deliverables
- 1:00:22Speaker 8: that benefit us.
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: So that's another element of this authorship.
- 1:00:27Speaker 8: Whatever everybody's writing, and it could be funny stuff I guess,
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: could be animation. Whatever the whole idea is, each portion
- 1:00:35Speaker 8: is adding to the pool. It's like a laser beam
- 1:00:39Speaker 8: of light in terms of what persons are going to
- 1:00:42Speaker 8: be producing and bringing out. And for that, you know,
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: I keep saying thank you, sister Queen Angela, because not
- 1:00:50Speaker 8: everyone is comfortable pulling together like that.
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: Some persons I don't know if I want to write
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: with you.
- 1:00:56Speaker 8: I don't know if I want to do them kind
- 1:00:57Speaker 8: of thing I don't have time to do and just
- 1:01:00Speaker 8: do what is it procrastination exactly. So this is forcing
- 1:01:04Speaker 8: the hand of all of us to, like you said,
- 1:01:08Speaker 8: work together, communicate within our groups outside of our groups,
- 1:01:11Speaker 8: the group leaders persons that you know. For me, sometimes
- 1:01:14Speaker 8: I have a spurt and I'm writing like all the time,
- 1:01:16Speaker 8: every day, NonStop, and then there's times where it just
- 1:01:20Speaker 8: slows down and I just go swimming and scuba diving
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: to get my balance right, and other people do other things.
- 1:01:26Speaker 8: But whatever that is, if we keep our energy and
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: our focus on what is the great outcome of this
- 1:01:36Speaker 8: movement of authoring work that is of a quality, that
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: actually helps and saves some people. Oh then we've we've
- 1:01:45Speaker 8: done our charge and I think come is great.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: Wow, absolutely, I agree. Well, I want to go.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: Around the room because we've been dropping some nuggets tonight
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: and I want everybody to be able to connect with
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: you guys and be able to support your platforms.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: And all of the stuff. So I'm gonna start with
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: doctor Chan.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: How can we connect with you, stay connected with you,
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: bother you, support you.
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: I am honored.
- 1:02:20Speaker 8: One of the fastest ways is by looking for chin
- 1:02:23Speaker 8: Zera c h E n z as and z I
- 1:02:27Speaker 8: r A Khena and I'm on virtually all social media
- 1:02:32Speaker 8: probably accept X right, and that way you can find
- 1:02:36Speaker 8: out some of the things that I'm engaged in and
- 1:02:38Speaker 8: the projects. You can also go to my YouTube page
- 1:02:41Speaker 8: which is ast speaks A S T s p E
- 1:02:46Speaker 8: A K S. Again A S T speaks s P

- 1:10:06Speaker 2: It's like different smaller stories about different people that I
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: met throughout life, and I just had that in one book.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: It's going to be phenomenal and I think it's It's
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: definitely where I'm very proud of writing that. I'm just
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: very every time I write and every time I hear
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: the story, it is very emotional.
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: So list is tuned to that and more information coming sooner.
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: Much success to you, Thank.

- 1:10:51Speaker 2: To be in the room with amazing people and just
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: open up doors for people you have not met in
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: the world. And just nick and like she said, a
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: few minutes ago, people missed the opportunity like this, And
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: I think for me, I'm like when I got the opportunity,
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm a harp on. I'm a connect network
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: because I want to be known. I want to know
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: other people's story, I want to know other people's backgrounds
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: so to help me further my education and to improve
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: my writing. Skills and improved my knowledge on certain things
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: I didn't know of that's out there.
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: So that is definitely I'm very grateful to be in
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: this moment.
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: We're grateful to have you, so I definitely want to
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: think I want to thank all three of you guys
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: are stopping and share with us on tonight. I know
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: it's not always easy to stop and share, and I
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: know that you guys are busy, So definitely thank you
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: for sharing your perspective and really chiming in tonight and
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: joining in on the conversation.
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: Truly, truly appreciate it.
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: Again, before we leave, I always like for my guests
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: to share something inspirational, something encouraging for those that are
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: tuned in that will draw those listeners to you. I'm
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: gonna start with Zachary. I want you to share something
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: inspiration or something encouraging that somebody that may be listening
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: in that they may be struggling, they may want to
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: write a book, may not know what to do, but
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: they may have tuned in and heard something tonight that
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: have inspired them, or they've heard a nugget. So I
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: want you to drop something in their spirit that would
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: encourage them to stay on this journey. Like I always say,
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: you are the voice, and that means stand out for
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: what you believe in, stand out for you being who
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: stand up for other people.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: You are the voice. You are the voice that stand
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: up for other people who don't have a voice. Don't
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: let nobody in the world define who you are at
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: the end of the day. And like I said, if
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: one door close, another one going to open, and when
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: you get in that door, make sure all eyes on
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: you because you are the voice.
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: And I'm gonna leave that with my people.
- 1:13:49Speaker 7: Thank you, Natalie. Can you share something please? Absolutely so.
- 1:13:54Speaker 7: I have two phrases that I love. The first one
- 1:13:57Speaker 7: I heard from Joyce Myers. He said, do it scared ooh,
- 1:14:01Speaker 7: because their fear is there. Fear is there when something
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: we encounter, something new, we're not used to it, we
- 1:14:12Speaker 7: don't know what to expect. We tend to back down.
- 1:14:15Speaker 7: So whatever it is is in your heart that you
- 1:14:18Speaker 7: want to do, do it scared. My second one is
- 1:14:21Speaker 7: and I just heard this, No I don't remember who
- 1:14:23Speaker 7: said it, but they said, just nike that thing. And
- 1:14:28Speaker 7: that's just another way of saying, just do it, because
- 1:14:31Speaker 7: if you don't had I not decided to stop trying
- 1:14:34Speaker 7: to fight with God and give him all the reasons
- 1:14:36Speaker 7: that I had for not writing a book. I would
- 1:14:39Speaker 7: not be a multi award winning romance writer. I wouldn't
- 1:14:43Speaker 7: have a workshop where I teach other people to be
- 1:14:48Speaker 7: award winning writers. So whatever it is that God has
- 1:14:54Speaker 7: put on your heart to do, nike.
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: That thing, period, Doctor change.
- 1:15:07Speaker 8: Make sure that you know yourself for the greatest and
- 1:15:11Speaker 8: highest good, and follow that path that you've been blessed with,
- 1:15:17Speaker 8: that you've been audained with, that you've been anointed with,
- 1:15:23Speaker 8: and carry it as far for generations upon generations, of course,
- 1:15:29Speaker 8: with the blessing of the most High Mother, Father Creator.
- 1:15:34Speaker 8: And do it well, and do it with excellence, and
- 1:15:38Speaker 8: keep it moving. Any obstacle that's not for you, that's
- 1:15:42Speaker 8: only a distraction, and always remember know yourself for the
- 1:15:47Speaker 8: greatest and highest good.
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: I hope, I.
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: Hope you God on tonight, because I tell you I
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: truly have been blessed by these amazing authors that decided
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: to stop by and share just a little bit about
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: their journey and why they chose authorship and how they are.
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: Creating and leaving a legacy.
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: I hope that you will follow them, support them if
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: they have books out that you will go over and
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: purchase a book from their website, leave a review, share
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: your thoughts, your perspective of some of their writings, to
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: give them some feedback on this journey that they're on.
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: Because they're sharing from their heart and they're sharing from
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: their soul, bits and pieces of them, they're leaving and
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: creating a legacy. I want to thank you guys for
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: tuning in tonight and sharing just a little bit with us.
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: We'll be back in two weeks on February the sixteenth,
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: same time, same space. We're gonna be back showcasing some
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: more authors that are doing the same thing. They're deciding
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: to allow their words to speak through the pen, and
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: they're putting their pen to paper. So join me February
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: to sixteen, six to eight pm right here as we
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: continue to celebrate these amazing black and brown authors from
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: around the world.
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: Y'all.
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: I will see y'all then, y'all have a great evening.
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: Then I
