- 0:01Welcome to Lavender Mine podcast,
- 0:04a podcast to help anyone remember
- 0:07how to live only in this moment
- 0:10because it's the only 1 we have.
- 0:15There's this cool story that I heard in
- 0:171 of my mindfulness classes, and it's about
- 0:19a man. Of course, it's fictional.
- 0:21It's about a man that is being chased
- 0:24by a tiger, and he
- 0:27doesn't know where to go. So he looks
- 0:28up and he
- 0:29sees a cliff, so he climbs to get
- 0:31away from or try to get away from
- 0:33the tiger.
- 0:34And when he
- 0:36is
- 0:37climbing up,
- 0:39he... There was actually a rope, he climbs
- 0:41up the rope. And
- 0:43when he gets to the top and actually
- 0:44is able to get away from the tiger.
- 0:46He looks up, and there's this little mouse
- 0:49chewing on his rope.
- 0:51And
- 0:52he notices that
- 0:54the rope is about to go. So he's
- 0:56looking at death
- 0:58up and down, looking at it from the
- 1:00little mouse chewing his rope, what a bummer
- 1:03and then looking down and there is a
- 1:04tiger that's gonna eat him. So in this
- 1:07moment, he is about to die. And so
- 1:10he
- 1:11looks
- 1:12right in front of his face and there
- 1:14are some strawberries. And so
- 1:16he chooses to
- 1:18not completely freak out, which I don't even
- 1:20know how. Of course, is a story
- 1:23and take the berry and just enjoy the
- 1:25moment that he's in, and this is such
- 1:27a great reminder that
- 1:29even on our worst days,
- 1:31we can just take each moment by moment
- 1:34and try to enjoy it or
- 1:36live at the best that we can. Sometimes
- 1:38that's really hard depending on what you have
- 1:40going on, but I love of the story
- 1:42because it just really drives home, but at
- 1:45this
- 1:46man's
- 1:47death. He remembered to just really live in
- 1:49the moment and enjoy the delicious strawberry right
- 1:53in front of his eyes.
- 1:55And sometimes we have
- 1:57so much beauty and love right around us,
- 2:00and we miss it because
- 2:02or caught in her heads
- 2:04worrying about something that's coming up in the
- 2:06future or
- 2:07really stuck about something that happened yesterday or
- 2:10a year ago or 5 years ago.
- 2:12This is just a reminder that it is
- 2:15possible to have that e
- 2:17that
- 2:18calm state in the middle of chaos,
- 2:20and so
- 2:21that's a great story to just keep
- 2:24in your mind when you're having 1 of
- 2:26those days.
- 2:28Feeling calm in the middle of chaos can
- 2:30be really really difficult.
- 2:32I know I love the idea of the
- 2:35word e,
- 2:36which means just just stay calm and stable
- 2:38and difficult
- 2:40situations, and I really do believe that mindfulness
- 2:43techniques and just
- 2:45a few of the tips that I'll share
- 2:47today really do help when
- 2:49you are having, like, a crazy day. You
- 2:52know, some days are just
- 2:53off the chart with all the things that
- 2:55come your way, like, your roof is leaking,
- 2:58the coffee pot breaks, you get a flat
- 3:00sometimes it's just unbearable when they're back to
- 3:04back in 1 day, you know, the timing
- 3:06is just so close together that you're, like,
- 3:10what the heck?
- 3:11There is this possibility to tap into a
- 3:15quiet stillness inside when these things come our
- 3:18way because as humans, we know that they
- 3:21just come our way, whether we want them
- 3:22or not, you have to deal with it.
- 3:24Right.
- 3:25So
- 3:26this quiet stillness, you know, what is that
- 3:28all about and how do we cultivate it?
- 3:31I'd love to know how you cultivate it
- 3:33for yourself and
- 3:35what personally brings you calm, what calms you
- 3:38down? Maybe it's...
- 3:40I don't know a cat video, I know
- 3:42right now, as I speak, I have 14
- 3:44teenagers on my couch. Watching animal planet, and
- 3:47I had to stop myself because I was,
- 3:49like, in this calm tran,
- 3:52watching these
- 3:53moms and their cubs just
- 3:56bond in China. It was like some,
- 3:59pandas, so beautiful the footage. That's a very
- 4:02calming
- 4:03technique. If if you're not aware of animal
- 4:06planet wow, you could really release sit there
- 4:08for hours and just really calm down. If
- 4:10you don't have hours to watch animal planet.
- 4:12There are some other ideas that I'm gonna
- 4:14share today.
- 4:15You probably have someone on board for yourself,
- 4:18Maybe it's prayer, reading the bible.
- 4:21Positive podcasts,
- 4:23pictures.
- 4:24I know my animals bring me a lot
- 4:25of calm, except for the mess that they
- 4:27make, of course. Just like my teenagers. They
- 4:29cause a little bit of mess, but I
- 4:31love them. Some ideas around how we can
- 4:34not lose our mind and stay centered during
- 4:36those days that are just really be tough.
- 4:39Some ideas are to get outside and to
- 4:41change our state.
- 4:43Anytime we're in nature, it changes our state
- 4:46and helps us to
- 4:47ground and center ourself. That's a grounding technique.
- 4:51Reminding ourselves that, you know, we've dealt with
- 4:53crummy days before and we've survived and
- 4:56All these things make us stronger, if that
- 4:59fails watching a funny cat video, You know,
- 5:01that always helps me too. Also,
- 5:04mindfulness, just staying aware of what's happening in
- 5:06the moment,
- 5:07remembering that we cannot control
- 5:11our future. We don't have to stress over
- 5:13it because we don't even know what it's
- 5:14gonna look like. We can always make a
- 5:16plan, but not to stress over the future.
- 5:18And not to rum over the past because
- 5:21all we have is this moment and gratitude
- 5:24is another always helpful to shift our focus
- 5:27from what we're missing to what we have,
- 5:30and then breath work, you know, notice in
- 5:32your body,
- 5:33where you're holding that stress during that difficult
- 5:37day. I carry a bunch of stress in
- 5:38my shoulders. It's like, I have, like, a
- 5:41backpack on of stress. And so I can...
- 5:44And the way to deal with us is
- 5:46to
- 5:47find the location in your body that you're
- 5:49holding on to that and just mentally
- 5:52release it and just take some deep breaths
- 5:54to try and let that go.
- 5:56And just again, remembering all you have is
- 5:59now. The feature might be different from your
- 6:01thoughts
- 6:02about it, and the past is over, all
- 6:05we can do is learn from it. This
- 6:06thought pattern alone doesn't really help us to
- 6:09find that e that we're looking for in
- 6:12our life.
- 6:13I hope this helps. I hope together we
- 6:15can plant some seeds of resilience, and joy,
- 6:18have an amazing day.
