- 0:00Hello everyone !
- 0:01This is Sunny Sideup , and you're listening to Spy Trader .
- 0:05It's 6 am on Saturday , May 16th , 2026 , here in sunny California .
- 0:11We are coming to you every few hours to keep you updated on this wild market rollercoaster .
- 0:16Man , what a week we just had !
- 0:18We saw history in the making as the Dow Jones actually cracked fifty thousand and the S&P 500 soared past seventyfive hundred midweek .
- 0:28It felt like a party , but then Friday rolled around and investors got a bit of a reality check .
- 0:34The S&P 500 , which you might track via the SPY or VOO ETFs , ended the week almost flat , up just a tiny pointone percent to finish at 7,408.50 .
- 0:47The Nasdaq , or QQQ , actually dipped slightly to 26,225.14 because of some profittaking in those AI chips we all love .
- 0:59It wasn't all bad news , though .
- 1:01While NVIDIA , ticker NVDA , took a fourpointfour percent hit on Friday after some news about China blocking chip sales , Microsoft — MSFT — actually rose over three and a half percent .
- 1:13That is because Bill Ackman’s Pershing Square took a big stake there .
- 1:16Healthcare was our safe haven this week .
- 1:19The XLV ETF did well , with Eli Lilly , that is LLY , jumping four percent on good clinical trial news , while Gilead Sciences also saw gains .
- 1:30We have a big change today .
- 1:32Jerome Powell is officially stepping down as Fed Chair , and Kevin Warsh is taking the wheel .
- 1:38With inflation sitting at threepointthree percent , people are worried Warsh might be a bit of a hawk on interest rates .
- 1:44We are already seeing it in the bond market .
- 1:47The tenyear Treasury yield hit fourpointsix percent , and that is putting a lot of pressure on growth stocks and longterm bond ETFs like TLT .
- 1:57Plus , with oil over a hundred dollars a barrel due to the conflict with Iran , things are definitely feeling a bit spicy .
- 2:04Keep an eye on Apple , AAPL .
- 2:07They are looking to shift some chip production to Intel or Samsung to avoid geopolitical risks .
- 2:13And how about that Cerebras Systems IPO ?
- 2:16Ticker CBRS skyrocketed seventyfive percent on its first day !
- 2:20So , what do we do with our hardearned money ?
- 2:24First , for your core portfolio , consider sticking with lowcost options like the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF , VOO , or the iShares Core S&P 500 , IVV .
- 2:36They are cheaper than SPY , which helps when inflation is high .
- 2:39Second , it might be time for a defensive pivot .
- 2:42Take a look at the Healthcare Select Sector fund , XLV , or international stocks through VXUS .
- 2:49Companies like Eli Lilly offer growth that isn't as tied to oil prices .
- 2:54For bonds , maybe skip the longterm TLT for now and look at the more diversified AGG .
- 3:00Finally , with NVIDIA reporting earnings on May 20th , it might be smart to trim your tech holdings in QQQ or XLK just a little bit .
- 3:10If you want an inflation hedge , check out real estate with VNQ or gold with GLD .
- 3:16Stay safe out there , and I will see you in a few hours !
