- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here live from Juliet, Illinois.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Today is the day, folks.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: The WASD October report comes out at 11 Central.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: We're also going to talk about beef imports and Delta Airlines as well.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit of livestock came back down a little bit yesterday and then fought back up towards the upside.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: And live cattle were basically unchanged, down 23 cents at 223 and a half.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle closed down 93 cents at 334.88.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs were down two quarters, half a dollar there at 68.60.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Before I quote the grain markets here, like to shout out our sponsor, plus 500.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: We use plus 500 T4 trading software to quote the markets every single day.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: And as I look here live, December corn is at 502.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Coming back up just a little bit here.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Soybeans November contract is at 1293 and a quarter.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: And December Chicago wheat is at 683 even.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: The weather has kind of had kind of has everyone's attention right now as we hold our breath for this storm.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Hurricane Isaiah is forecast to at the low end of category three and will make landfall near the Florida-Alabama border tonight.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Its rain reaches the eastern and southeastern cornbelt, probably into Saturday and Sunday without any heavy rain or high winds.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: The Corn Belt and Plains harvest runs wide open through Tuesday.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Then the rain into Tuesday night and Thursday brings a temporary halt.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: But, you know, a little bonus there for good wheat planting moisture before drying out again with record warmth through Tuesday.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: We'll see when this makes landfall.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: We'll see how you know a force to be reckoned with it is.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: You know, some of these hurricanes maybe don't play out as vicious as we think they do, and some of them catch us off guard.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: The WASDI report is today.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: That's the big headline, and I know I don't have to tell you the historical significance of this report.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: I can't state it enough.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: The October is when the WASDI stops guessing.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: It's the first report built on actual crops coming out of the field, not just models and plant counts.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: October is the market yield kind of coin flip.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Since 2000, USGA's October corn yield has gone up as often as it has gone down.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: There's no kind of significant trend here.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: It's one way or the other, and we will find out today.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Maybe it'll be unchanged.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: But still, even if it were unchanged, that would be pretty record news for a WASDI report.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: This is the beef import number for today or for this week.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Uh and it comes from Mr.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Mike Sands.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: August beef imports were near 520 million pounds, slightly below the recent months, but 26% above year over year.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: As record high beef prices and stronger dollar keeps the U.S.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: the most attractive destination for suppliers like Australia and our South American counterparts.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: That's kind of the world we live in right now, you know.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: We have a decreased capacity for beef production here in the United States and we're trying the United States and we're trying to grow it back.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: But right now we look pretty attractive to outside beef production countries.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: This headline caught my eye this morning.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: I thought, wow, that actually sounds like all of agriculture right now.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Delta Airlines cuts the 2026 forecast on the fuel surge, believe it or not.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: But the CEO says demand is still strong.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: That describes a lot of agriculture right now.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Our inputs, our outside expenses are so high.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Our demand is still holding on strong and decent in most commodities.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: But man, the price of diesel fuel right now is just insane.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: They say holiday plane tickets for Thanksgiving and Christmas are just through the roof right now.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: This is the economic calendar for today.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: The University of Michigan sentiment comes out at 9 a.m.
