- 0:00Time now for back to the basics and healthcare with Balanced Life Chiropractic. We've
- 0:04got doctor Harley joining us, Hey doing doctor Harley Hay, Good morning John.
- 0:07Kids are back at school, So now they're sitting in the classrooms and
- 0:10they're dragging backpacks back and forth, and there's all kinds of stuff that these
- 0:14are different things than what they're used to in the summer. Right. Yeah,
- 0:17you would think they would remember everything they did the previous school year,
- 0:20but it's like one summer hits everything gets forgotten, and then when we start
- 0:24the school year again, it's like we have to relearn everything. So one
- 0:27thing I wanted to touch about today and maybe a couple of things, is,
- 0:30you know, backpacks and how they're sitting at their desk. We've been
- 0:33talking a lot about stress and sickness and that kind of stuff, but also
- 0:36some of the everyday repetitive motions that they're doing that can be causing some of
- 0:41the aches pains and that they're noticing. So one thing I started with the
- 0:45backpacks is there are a lot of times too heavy, and part of that
- 0:50is they don't necessarily need to carry all this stuff everywhere, but it's easier
- 0:53if they just put it all in the bag and drag it at all everywhere.
- 0:56But they don't need to do that, right, It depends, I
- 0:58guess on the school. Some schools they have lockers that they can go back
- 1:00and forth between, and they have time to do it. Sometimes maybe they
- 1:03do need to carry a lot of stuff because they're having to go all the
- 1:06way to the other side of the building. It just kind of depends on
- 1:08what their school looks like. You could just do what I did. I
- 1:11didn't carry any about any of those in my backpacks. I said, comic
- 1:14books. That's all I needed. Like, well, we'll see what Thor
- 1:17thinks about this. How do you do in school? John? I did
- 1:19really well. Actually, oh, sadly, I didn't really read comic books.
- 1:22I was kidding about that. It's store even in comic books. I
- 1:25don't even know. Yeah, I thought I just knew it was in the
- 1:26movies. So yeah, well, most of the movies came from comic That's
- 1:30what I was thinking. I say, I'm trying to be funny, and
- 1:32I have no idea what I'm talking about. But no, I think that
- 1:34a lot of the time people do carry way too much stuff in there.
- 1:38So even if they do have to carry all their stuff, maybe they could
- 1:41limit some of the other things maybe potentially too. But also how are they
- 1:44carrying their backpack? Are they carrying one that's to begin with too big?
- 1:48And that comes with like really little elementary school kids all times they're carrying too
- 1:51big of a backpack. You know, your backpack should be less than ten
- 1:55percent of your body weight. Oh wow, so it seems like like that
- 1:57seems like that's a small person. But obviously the bigger kids they're going to
- 2:00be carrying a little bit more weight. But also how are you carrying Are
- 2:05you carrying it close to your body? Are you doing the one shoulder shrug
- 2:07thing? Or you got do you have a one shoulder bag in general?
- 2:10Or carry on luggage not have it tight enough too? So that's another thing.
- 2:15If you're carrying a really heavy backpack, how loose is it on you?
- 2:16Because you want that backpack a little bit tighter to you, higher up
- 2:20on your back, then you're not gonna be leaning down with it. It's
- 2:23not gonna be pulling you backwards as much. Do you think they could use
- 2:25carry on luggage that has the wheels, just roll that from room to room.
- 2:29I don't know. That'd be a great question for the school principles.
- 2:31If they make them carry their books everywhere, they should be able to do
- 2:34that right, reach out to Sunny Radio. If you answer to that,
- 2:38start doing like a Q and a session. Yeah, I did a lot
- 2:40of quesn't that many as well? Maybe your listeners have some answers there you
- 2:45go, that's good. So that's definitely one thing being mindful up is what's
- 2:47in their backpack? How are they carrying? But then too, how are
- 2:50they sitting in class? What kind of tears are they using? Obviously they
- 2:52might not have much of an option with the chairs. I know some school
- 2:55districts are getting a little more progressive with like having different options. You know,
- 3:00what works for them for learning? Do they like this kind of chair,
- 3:02this kind of style? So that's cool. Ibously, if you don't
- 3:05go to one of those schools and you're stuck with like your plain desk,
- 3:07make sure you're sitting up right. I know it's not as comfortable, it's
- 3:10not as fall on your board, you're not liking your class or whatnot,
- 3:15but sitting up properly, you know, elbows at ninety and ninety hips and
- 3:19knees at ninety and ninety sitting upright, you're gonna have your back is gonna
- 3:22thank you. Your head is gonna thank you because you're not having all that
- 3:24forward head posture. It's much better in the long run to have good posture
- 3:30at your desk versus slouching nice and that's just having the proper posture. Posture
- 3:36is a big factor to a lot of things, it really is. So
- 3:38if somebody listening is going have you got some questions? Maybe not those silly
- 3:42things I was talking about, but if they get some good questions that might
- 3:45relate to what you guys do, how do they get older? Here at
