- 0:14Speaker 1: Compositions of Guru Gobin Singh extracts from al cal U
- 0:20Speaker 1: Stott in the year a d. Seventeen hundred and thirty four,
- 0:25Speaker 1: while in Amritsar by Mani Singh compiled the compositions and
- 0:31Speaker 1: translations of Guru Gobin Singh and of the Barts who
- 0:35Speaker 1: were associated with him. The compilation was subsequently known as
- 0:40Speaker 1: the Growth of the Tenth Guru, though Mani Singh did
- 0:44Speaker 1: not give it that title. We now proceed to give
- 0:49Speaker 1: translations from it of such doctrinal and historical portions as
- 0:54Speaker 1: we believe to represent the Guru's own opinions and acts. Jop.
- 1:01Speaker 1: There is one God, the True, the Great, and the bounteous.
- 1:05Speaker 1: The Tenth Guru spoke with his Holy mouth. God hath
- 1:08Speaker 1: No quoit or marks, no color, no cast, no lineage,
- 1:12Speaker 1: no form, no complexion, no outline, no costume. None can
- 1:18Speaker 1: in any way describe him. He is immovable, fearless, luminous,
- 1:23Speaker 1: and measureless in might. He is accounted king of kings,
- 1:27Speaker 1: lord of millions of Indars. He is sovereign of the
- 1:31Speaker 1: three worlds, demigods, men and demons. The woods and dales
- 1:36Speaker 1: declare him indescribable, O Lord, who can tell all thy names.
- 1:42Speaker 1: The wise call the special names according to thy deeds.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I call ustat praise of the immortal. May we have
- 1:51Speaker 1: the protection of the immortal being. May we have the
- 1:56Speaker 1: protection of all steel. May we have the protection of
- 2:00Speaker 1: all death. May we have the protection of all steel.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Abow to the one primal God, who extended sea and
- 2:08Speaker 1: land and nether regions and the firmament. He is the
- 2:11Speaker 1: primal being, unseen and immortal. His light is manifest in
- 2:16Speaker 1: the fourteen worlds. He is contained in the ant as
- 2:19Speaker 1: in the elephant. He deemeth the rich and the poor alike.
- 2:23Speaker 1: He is unequaled, unseen, and eternal. He is the searcher
- 2:28Speaker 1: of all hearts. He is invisible and destructible and without
- 2:32Speaker 1: distinguishing dress. He is without passion and color, form or outline.
- 2:37Speaker 1: He is devoid of cast marks of every kind. He
- 2:40Speaker 1: is the primal being, peerless and changeless. He hath no enemy,
- 2:45Speaker 1: no friend, no father, no mother. He is far from
- 2:48Speaker 1: all and near all. His dwelling is in sea and land,
- 2:52Speaker 1: in nether and upper regions. Boundless is his form, and
- 2:55Speaker 1: boundless his voice in the shelter of his feet. Dwelleth, Bahwani,
- 3:02Speaker 1: Brahma and Vishnu have not found his limits. The forefaced
- 3:06Speaker 1: Brama pointeth out that God is indescribable. He made millions
- 3:12Speaker 1: of Indars and Bahwans. He created and destroyed Brahmas and sheaves.
- 3:16Speaker 1: The fourteen worlds he made as a play, and again
- 3:20Speaker 1: blended them with himself. He made endless demons, deities, serpents,
- 3:25Speaker 1: celestial singers, yakshas excellent and beautiful. He is spoken of
- 3:30Speaker 1: in the past, the future, and the present, and he
- 3:33Speaker 1: knoweth the secrets of every heart. He is not attached
- 3:37Speaker 1: to any one love. He is contained in the light
- 3:40Speaker 1: of all souls. He recognizeth all people in all places.
- 3:45Speaker 1: He is free from death and immortal. He is the invisible, imperceptible,
- 3:51Speaker 1: being distinct from all the world. He is immortal and decaying,
- 3:55Speaker 1: imperishable and of changeless purpose. He is the destroyer and
- 3:59Speaker 1: creator of all. He is the remover of sickness, sorrow,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and sin. He who with single heart meditateth on him
- 4:07Speaker 1: even for a moment, shall not fall into Death's news.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Thou art without sorrow, without form, yet beautiful, the king
- 4:17Speaker 1: of kings, the giver of great gifts, the preserver of life,
- 4:21Speaker 1: the giver of milk and sons, the remover of sickness
- 4:24Speaker 1: and sorrow, sometimes honorable and inspiring great honor. Thou art
- 4:29Speaker 1: a student of science, an unrivaled incarnation. Thou appearst as
- 4:33Speaker 1: a sid Thou art the glory of purity. Thou art
- 4:37Speaker 1: the net of youth, the death of death, the torment
- 4:40Speaker 1: of enemies, the life of friends. The following ten sawayahs
- 4:46Speaker 1: or quatrains are recited at the administration of the pah
- 4:50Speaker 1: hall or baptism according to the rights of the tenth
- 4:54Speaker 1: Guru One. I have wandered and in their own homes,
- 4:59Speaker 1: seeing crowd of Sarabajis, sooeds, seeds, Yogis and yadis, brave demons,
- 5:07Speaker 1: demigods feasting on nectar, and crowds of saints of various sects.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I have seen the religions of all countries, but none
- 5:16Speaker 1: appeared to be that of the Lord of Life. Without
- 5:20Speaker 1: a particle of the love and favor of God, they
- 5:23Speaker 1: are only worth Rati. Two emperors before whom strong armed
- 5:30Speaker 1: kings used to lowly bow their heads in countless numbers,
- 5:35Speaker 1: who possessed proud elephants with golden trappings, incomparable, tall painted
- 5:40Speaker 1: with bright colors, millions of horses, which bounded like deer
- 5:44Speaker 1: and were fleeter than the wind. What mattered it, how
- 5:47Speaker 1: great those emperors were, they at last departed barefooted. Three
- 5:56Speaker 1: though they roamed and conquered all countries, beating their very drums.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Though many beautiful elephants trumpeted loud, and thousands of horses
- 6:05Speaker 1: of royal breed made for them. Who can number such
- 6:09Speaker 1: kings in the past, the future, and the present, They
- 6:12Speaker 1: cannot be counted. Yet without worshiping the name of God,
- 6:16Speaker 1: the Lord of wealth, they went at last to their
- 6:19Speaker 1: final home. For men bay that places of pilgrimage exercise mercy,
- 6:27Speaker 1: curbed their passions, bestowed gifts, exercise abstinence, and perform various
- 6:32Speaker 1: special ceremonies. The vEDS, the Parans, the Koran, and the
- 6:37Speaker 1: other books of the musso Mans, the Earth and heaven,
- 6:41Speaker 1: all have I seen thousands of fasts yahtis who practice continents,
- 6:48Speaker 1: all have I carefully observed. Yet without worshiping the name
- 6:53Speaker 1: of the One God and loving him. Even kings are
- 6:56Speaker 1: of no account. Five trained soldiers, powerful, irresistible, well accoutred
- 7:05Speaker 1: with coats of mail, crush their enemies. Filled with high
- 7:09Speaker 1: martial spirit, they would put mountains to flight, themselves unshaken,
- 7:14Speaker 1: they would shatter their enemies, destroy rebels, crush the pride
- 7:19Speaker 1: of furious elephants. Yet without the favor of God, the
- 7:23Speaker 1: Lord of wealth, they should all depart at last and
- 7:26Speaker 1: leave the world. Six countless heroes, very valiant, without hesitation,
- 7:34Speaker 1: face the edge of the sword, subdue countries, crush rebels
- 7:39Speaker 1: and the pride of furious elephants, break powerful forts, and,
- 7:42Speaker 1: even without fighting, conquer in every direction. But their efforts
- 7:47Speaker 1: avail not. The Lord is the commander of them. All.
- 7:51Speaker 1: The suppliants are many, while there is but one giver.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Seven even the demons, gods, serpents, and ghosts who repeat
- 8:02Speaker 1: God's name in the past, future and present. All the
- 8:06Speaker 1: beings which in sea and land every moment set up
- 8:09Speaker 1: God in their hearts, shall find their good deeds and
- 8:12Speaker 1: glory increase. They shall hear the voices of gratulation, and
- 8:17Speaker 1: the multitude of their sins shall depart. The congregations of
- 8:22Speaker 1: saints wander happy in the world. All their enemies on
- 8:25Speaker 1: beholding them are cowed. Eight lords of men and elephants,
- 8:31Speaker 1: rulers who reign in the three worlds, who perform millions
- 8:35Speaker 1: of ablutions, make gifts of elephants and other animals, and
- 8:39Speaker 1: merry brides at various splendid swayambars. They with Brahma, she Vishnu,
- 8:46Speaker 1: and Inda, shall at last be entangled and fall into
- 8:51Speaker 1: death's noos. But they who touch the feet of the
- 8:54Speaker 1: Lord of Wealth shall not again resume a body. I
- 9:00Speaker 1: find what availeth it to sit closing both eyes and
- 9:04Speaker 1: meditating like Ukraine. This world is lost, and the next
- 9:08Speaker 1: also for those who go about bathing in the seven seas,
- 9:12Speaker 1: they pass their lives in vain dwelling in the midst
- 9:15Speaker 1: of sin. I speak verily hear me, all ye people,
- 9:19Speaker 1: they who love God have obtained him. Ten Some worshiping stones,
- 9:27Speaker 1: put them on their heads, some suspend lingams from their necks.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Some see God in the south, some bow their heads
- 9:35Speaker 1: to the west. Some fools worship idols, others busy themselves
- 9:40Speaker 1: with worshiping the dead. The whole world entangled in false ceremonies,
- 9:45Speaker 1: hath not found God's secret. God is not subject to
- 9:51Speaker 1: birth or death. He is acquainted with the excellent fourteen sciences.
- 9:57Speaker 1: He is without stain and infinite. He is of unfading
- 10:01Speaker 1: brightness and generous. His form is not quickly recognized. He
- 10:05Speaker 1: is head of the saints of the whole world. He
- 10:08Speaker 1: is the highest object of praise. By him, the earth
- 10:11Speaker 1: and Sun are supported. He is the treasury of the
- 10:15Speaker 1: eighteen supernatural powers. He is the dispeller of sorrow in
- 10:19Speaker 1: all the worlds. He is not subject to time, to death,
- 10:22Speaker 1: or to karma. He is versed in all religious ceremonies.
- 10:26Speaker 1: His glory is infrangible and unequaled. He established all establishment.
- 10:32Speaker 1: He is without sorrow, indivisible and impenetrable. Brama, by his
- 10:37Speaker 1: fore beds sings his praises. The beds speak of him
- 10:40Speaker 1: as indescribable. Brama speaks of him as endless. His glory
- 10:44Speaker 1: is unknowable and indivisible, immeasurable, and unestablished by anyone. He
- 10:51Speaker 1: made the extension of the world. He created it with
- 10:54Speaker 1: the utmost thought. His form is endless and infragible. His
- 10:57Speaker 1: glory is peerless and dazzling. He is invisible and noble.
- 11:01Speaker 1: He made millions of Indars and kings, many Brahmas and
- 11:04Speaker 1: Vishnus who meditate on him, Many Rams, Khrushans and prophets.
- 11:09Speaker 1: No one is acceptable without devotion. There are many oceans, mountains,
- 11:16Speaker 1: great as bind many fishes, tortoises and serpents. Many deities
- 11:22Speaker 1: and sons of Brahma, many incarnations of Khushan and Vishnu,
- 11:26Speaker 1: many Indars to sweep before his door, many beds and Brahmas,
- 11:31Speaker 1: many Rudars and Bawans, and many unequal Rahms and Khraishans.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Many men recite amatory poetry. Many tell the secrets of
- 11:40Speaker 1: the vEDS. Many recite the Shastars and simrites, and some
- 11:44Speaker 1: read the Purans. Many performed fire sacrifices, many painful penances
- 11:49Speaker 1: with bodies reversed. Many lift their arms in the fashion
- 11:53Speaker 1: of asan ya ses. Some down the garb of yogis
- 11:56Speaker 1: and abandon the world. Some performed the Niwali feet. Some
- 12:00Speaker 1: practice painful fasting. Some go on pilgrimages and give boundless alms.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Some are generous in their worldly acts. Some perform unequal
- 12:09Speaker 1: burnt offering. Some obtain regal state and dispense justice. Some
- 12:15Speaker 1: act according to the shasstars and some rities, and some
- 12:19Speaker 1: in opposition to the vEDS. Many wander in different countries,
- 12:24Speaker 1: and many remain fixed in one place. Some prey in water,
- 12:28Speaker 1: some endure five fires on their bodies. Some dwell in
- 12:32Speaker 1: the forest. Some perform the endless duties of a family man.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Some are generous in the fashion of kings. Some are
- 12:38Speaker 1: free from sickness and error. Some perform good in others'
- 12:42Speaker 1: bad acts. Some pose as shikehs, others as Brahmans. Some
- 12:48Speaker 1: perform the duties of kings in an incomparable manner. Some
- 12:52Speaker 1: are free from bodily and mental suffering. Some are subject
- 12:55Speaker 1: to the service of a special God. Some are poor,
- 12:59Speaker 1: others the sons of kings, and some are the incarnations
- 13:04Speaker 1: of Baias. Many Brahmas read the vades, and many chesnags
- 13:09Speaker 1: repeat God's name. Some are by Raji's other sun yahses,
- 13:14Speaker 1: and some wander in the guise of udases. Know that
- 13:19Speaker 1: all these things are vain, and that all such religion
- 13:22Speaker 1: is fruitless without the support of the one name Deem.
- 13:26Speaker 1: All religious ceremonies as superstition. God is in the water,
- 13:32Speaker 1: God is in the dry land, God is in the heart,
- 13:35Speaker 1: God is in the forest. God is in the mountain.
- 13:38Speaker 1: God is in the cave. God is in the earth.
- 13:41Speaker 1: God is in heaven. God is here, God is there.
- 13:44Speaker 1: God is in space. God is in time. God is invisible.
- 13:47Speaker 1: God is without a garb. God is without sin. God
- 13:51Speaker 1: is without en matig God is deathless. God is uncherished.
- 13:55Speaker 1: God is impenetrable. God is invulnerable. God is not moved
- 13:59Speaker 1: by charms or spells. God has his own light. He
- 14:02Speaker 1: cannot be moved by incantations. God is without cast. God
- 14:07Speaker 1: is without lineage. God is without friends. God hath no mother,
- 14:11Speaker 1: God feeleth no physical or mental suffering. God is without doubt.
- 14:15Speaker 1: God hath no karma. God is invincible. God is fearless.
- 14:19Speaker 1: God is infragible. God is indissoluble. God cannot be punished.
- 14:23Speaker 1: God is radiant. God is transcendent. God is inscrutable. Repeat
- 14:29Speaker 1: God's name, established God's name in thy heart, dependance and
- 14:34Speaker 1: to God, and repeat his name. Thou o God art
- 14:38Speaker 1: in the water, thou art in the dry land, thou
- 14:41Speaker 1: art in the river, thou art in the sea, thou
- 14:45Speaker 1: art in the tree, thou art in its leaves, thou
- 14:48Speaker 1: art in the earth, thou art in the firmament, thy
- 14:50Speaker 1: name is repeated again and again. Thy name is fixed
- 14:53Speaker 1: in man's heart. Thou art space, thou art time, thou
- 14:56Speaker 1: art the occupant, thou art the place. Thou art unborn,
- 14:59Speaker 1: thou art fearless, thou art impalpable, thou art indestructible, thou
- 15:03Speaker 1: art continents, thou art fasting, thou art deliverance, thou art wisdom.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Thou alone art, thou alone art. The following is a
- 15:12Speaker 1: satire on various penances and austerities practiced by Hindu sets
- 15:18Speaker 1: in Indian swine eat filth, Elephants and donkeys bespattered themselves
- 15:24Speaker 1: with dust. Deckos live at places of cremation. Owls live
- 15:28Speaker 1: in tombs. Deer wander alone in the forest. Trees ever
- 15:31Speaker 1: die in silence. The man who restraineth his seed should
- 15:35Speaker 1: only have the credit of the hermaphrodite. Monkeys ever wander barefooted.
- 15:40Speaker 1: How shall the retchue is subject to a woman and
- 15:42Speaker 1: devoted to lust and wrath be saved without the knowledge
- 15:46Speaker 1: of the One God. It is known that demons live
- 15:49Speaker 1: in the forest. All children on earth drenk milk, and
- 15:52Speaker 1: serpents live on air. They who eat grass and renounce
- 15:55Speaker 1: the desire of wealth are no more than calves and oxen.
- 15:59Speaker 1: They who fly and the heavens have only the attribute
- 16:01Speaker 1: of birds. They who engage in meditation resemble cranes, cats,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and wolves. All great guyanes, who knew but asserted not themselves,
- 16:11Speaker 1: never allowed such deceit as the above to enter their hearts,
- 16:14Speaker 1: even by mistake. They who live in the earth should
- 16:19Speaker 1: be called the offspring of worms. They who live in
- 16:22Speaker 1: the heavens should be called birds. They who eat fruit
- 16:25Speaker 1: should be called the offspring of monkeys. They will wander
- 16:27Speaker 1: unseen should be accounted as ghosts. They who float on
- 16:31Speaker 1: water are like gun jerries. They who eat far like chalkhoors.
- 16:36Speaker 1: They who worship the sun have the attribute of the lotus.
- 16:39Speaker 1: They who worship the moon of water lilies, the tortoise,
- 16:43Speaker 1: the fish in the shark may all be called nah Rayan.
- 16:47Speaker 1: If you speak of God as called Knob, the lake
- 16:50Speaker 1: in which there is Lotus is also called knob. If
- 16:53Speaker 1: you speak of God as Gapanot, all goojars are gopanoths.
- 16:58Speaker 1: All cow herds go pop. If you call God rick Kikesh,
- 17:03Speaker 1: that is a name taken by superiors of religious orders.
- 17:07Speaker 1: If you call God Madhab, that is the bumblebee. Kenaya
- 17:12Speaker 1: is the name of the woodpecker. If you speak of
- 17:14Speaker 1: God as a destroyer of khans, you speak of the
- 17:17Speaker 1: murmadans of death. Fools utter names but know not their meanings,
- 17:21Speaker 1: and worship not him by whom man is protected. God
- 17:25Speaker 1: is the protector and destroyer of the world, compassionate to
- 17:28Speaker 1: the poor, punisher of enemies, ever the cherisher, and free
- 17:32Speaker 1: from death's news. Yogi's wearers of matted hair celibates the
- 17:37Speaker 1: true great bram mak Kharis, who undergo hunger and thirst
- 17:41Speaker 1: in their divine meditation. They who performed the Niwali feet,
- 17:45Speaker 1: who sacrifice to water, fire and wind, who hold their
- 17:48Speaker 1: heads down, dant on one leg and never sip. Men, serpents, deities,
- 17:54Speaker 1: and demons find not God's secrets. The vEDS and the
- 17:57Speaker 1: books of the muscle Man say that God is in discribable.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Pete cock skip about dancing, the thunder roars, and the
- 18:04Speaker 1: lightning presenteth many phases. If God be obtained by being
- 18:08Speaker 1: cold or hot, there is nothing colder than the moon,
- 18:11Speaker 1: nothing hotter than the sun. If by being a raja,
- 18:14Speaker 1: God may be obtained, there is no king equal to
- 18:18Speaker 1: Indar who fileth the whole world. Nowhere can be found
- 18:22Speaker 1: a penitent like a Shiv, a reader of the beds
- 18:25Speaker 1: like prime Obrama, or penitents like the sons of Brahma.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Yet without divine knowledge, they are all subject to the
- 18:32Speaker 1: noos of death, and never wander through the cycle of
- 18:35Speaker 1: the ages. One Hiv was born, one died, and one
- 18:38Speaker 1: was born again. There have also been many incarnations of Rahm,
- 18:42Speaker 1: Chandhar and Khrashan. How many Brahmas Ambishnus have there been?
- 18:46Speaker 1: How many beds and purans? How many collections of Simrati's
- 18:50Speaker 1: have been and passed away? How many preachers in Madars?
- 18:55Speaker 1: How many castors and polyxes? How many anslatars have to death?
- 19:01Speaker 1: How many priests and prophets have there been? They are
- 19:03Speaker 1: so many that they cannot be counted. From dust they sprang,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and to dust they returned. Yogi, Yatis, brock mar Karis
- 19:13Speaker 1: and very great kings, the shadow of whose umbrellas extended
- 19:17Speaker 1: for many miles, who wandered, subduing kingdoms and crushing the
- 19:21Speaker 1: pride of very great kings, sovereigns like man and lords
- 19:25Speaker 1: of the umbrella like the lip great kings who prided
- 19:29Speaker 1: themselves on the strength of their arms. Proud men like Dara,
- 19:33Speaker 1: like the kings of Dillian, like dir jaad Han, having
- 19:37Speaker 1: enjoyed the earth in their turn, at last were blended
- 19:40Speaker 1: with it. Artierymen, huntsmen wearing decoy dresses, and they who
- 19:45Speaker 1: eat opium bow their heads many times? What availeth it
- 19:49Speaker 1: that men perform prostrations of different kinds to God? They
- 19:52Speaker 1: are like wrestlers practicing the exercise of dond What availeth
- 19:57Speaker 1: it that men live with their faces turned up? If
- 20:00Speaker 1: they do not heartily bow to the Supreme God, they
- 20:02Speaker 1: are only as sick men. How can he who is
- 20:06Speaker 1: the slave of worldly desires and ever clever in obtaining wealth,
- 20:10Speaker 1: obtain the one Lord of the world without faith in him?
- 20:15Speaker 1: He into whose ear and earwig hath entered, shaketh his head.
- 20:19Speaker 1: He who hath lost a friend or son, beatth his
- 20:22Speaker 1: head in mourning. For grazing on ok, eating fruits and flowers,
- 20:26Speaker 1: and ever wandering in the forests. There is no animal
- 20:30Speaker 1: like a goat. What if a sheep rub its head
- 20:32Speaker 1: against trees and thus take off its hair as for
- 20:35Speaker 1: eating earth, call the leech and ask it. How can
- 20:38Speaker 1: he who is a slave to worldly desires and addicted
- 20:42Speaker 1: to less than wrath, find God without faith. The peacocks
- 20:46Speaker 1: dance the frog's croak, and the clouds ever thunder. The
- 20:49Speaker 1: tree ever standeth on one leg in the forest. As
- 20:52Speaker 1: for those who take not life, this Sarah Badji bloweth
- 20:56Speaker 1: on the ground before putting his feet on it. The stones,
- 21:01Speaker 1: through several ages, remain in one place. The ravens and
- 21:05Speaker 1: the kites travel from country to country. How can the wretch,
- 21:08Speaker 1: who is without divine knowledge, and who is never absorbed
- 21:11Speaker 1: in the Great Benefactor be saved without faith in him?
- 21:16Speaker 1: Like an actor, man sometimes poseth as a yogi or bairaji.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Sometimes he assumeth the guise of a sanyasi. Sometimes he
- 21:25Speaker 1: appears to live on air. Sometimes he sitteth in an
- 21:28Speaker 1: attitude of contemplation. Sometimes, in his infatuation for pelt, he
- 21:33Speaker 1: singeth many praises of men. Sometimes he is a brah machari.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Sometimes he produceth a garden in his hand. Sometimes he
- 21:42Speaker 1: holdeth a fakir's stat and deceiveth men's senses. He who
- 21:46Speaker 1: is subject to worldly desires danceth with gestures, but being
- 21:50Speaker 1: devoided divine knowledge, how shall he obtain heaven in the
- 21:57Speaker 1: cold season. The jackal barketh five times, The elephant and
- 22:00Speaker 1: the donkey utter various cries. What availeth it to be
- 22:04Speaker 1: cut in twain by the saw? At Benari's thieves cut
- 22:08Speaker 1: men in pieces and kill them with axes? What availeth
- 22:11Speaker 1: it that a fool hath put a halter around his
- 22:14Speaker 1: neck and round himself in the Ganges. Thags put men
- 22:18Speaker 1: to death by putting halters round their necks without meditation
- 22:22Speaker 1: on divine knowledge. Fools are drowned in Hell's river, and
- 22:26Speaker 1: without faith? How can there be any such meditation? If
- 22:30Speaker 1: anyone were to obtain by penance, the Lord who suffereth
- 22:33Speaker 1: not pain, the wounded man suffereth pain of many kinds.
- 22:37Speaker 1: If anyone were by repeating God's name to obtain God,
- 22:40Speaker 1: who cannot be obtained by lip worship, the warbler, ever
- 22:44Speaker 1: uttereth too high to hide. If anyone were to obtain
- 22:48Speaker 1: God by flying in the heavens, the bird called and
- 22:51Speaker 1: wandereth in the firmament. If salvation be obtained by burning
- 22:55Speaker 1: oneself in the fire, why should not the sati and
- 22:58Speaker 1: also the serpent which lives in hell be saved. The
- 23:03Speaker 1: following is a homily on the equality of men and
- 23:06Speaker 1: on the Hindu and Mohammedan forms of worship. One man,
- 23:10Speaker 1: by shaving his head is accepted as a Sanyasi, another
- 23:14Speaker 1: as a Yogi or ra machari, a third as a Yahti.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Some men are Hindus and others Mussulmans. Among the latter
- 23:22Speaker 1: are Rafazis, Amams and Shafais. Know that all men are
- 23:28Speaker 1: of the same cast. Karta the Creator and Karim the
- 23:32Speaker 1: beneficent are the same. Razak the Provider, and Rahim the
- 23:35Speaker 1: merciful are the same. Let no men, even by mistakes,
- 23:38Speaker 1: suppose there is a difference. Worship the one God, who
- 23:42Speaker 1: is the one divine Guru. For all. Know that his
- 23:44Speaker 1: form is one, and that he is the one light
- 23:47Speaker 1: diffused in all. The temple and the mosque are the same.
- 23:50Speaker 1: The Hindu worship and the Mussulman prayer are the same.
- 23:53Speaker 1: All men are the same. It is through error they
- 23:55Speaker 1: appear different deities, demons, yakshas, heavenly singer's, Mussulmans and Hindus
- 24:01Speaker 1: adopt the customary dress of their different countries. All men
- 24:05Speaker 1: have the same eyes, the same ears, the same body,
- 24:08Speaker 1: the same build a compound of earth the are fire
- 24:11Speaker 1: and water. Allah and ab Heck are the same. The
- 24:15Speaker 1: Purans and the Koran are the same. They are all alike.
- 24:19Speaker 1: It is the one God who created all. The following
- 24:24Speaker 1: gives the Sek conception of the manner in which souls
- 24:26Speaker 1: emanated from God and are again absorbed in Him. As
- 24:30Speaker 1: from one fire, millions of sparks arise. Though rising separately,
- 24:36Speaker 1: they unite again in the fire, as from one heap
- 24:39Speaker 1: of dust. Several particles of dust fill the air, and
- 24:42Speaker 1: on filling it again blend with the dust. As in
- 24:46Speaker 1: one stream, millions of waves are produced. The waves, being
- 24:48Speaker 1: made of water, all become water. So from God's form,
- 24:53Speaker 1: non sentient and sentient things are manifested, and springing from him,
- 24:57Speaker 1: shall all be united in Him again. In how many
- 25:01Speaker 1: tortoises and fishes, and how many eaters of them? How
- 25:04Speaker 1: many excellent young animals become strong winged and fly? How
- 25:08Speaker 1: many birds of prey in the firmament eat the excellent birds,
- 25:11Speaker 1: And how many animals eat and digest the birds of
- 25:14Speaker 1: prey when they see them. What mattereth it? Whether things
- 25:18Speaker 1: live in water or land, or fly in the firmament,
- 25:20Speaker 1: God made them and will destroy them all as light
- 25:24Speaker 1: blendeth with darkness, and darkness with light. So all things
- 25:27Speaker 1: have sprung from God and shall be united in him.
- 25:31Speaker 1: How many go about howling? How many die weeping? How
- 25:34Speaker 1: many are drowned in the water. How many are burnt
- 25:36Speaker 1: in the fire? How many dwell by the Ganges? How
- 25:39Speaker 1: many in Medina and Maka. How many wander as anchoretes.
- 25:43Speaker 1: How many undergo the pain of being cut by the saw?
- 25:46Speaker 1: How many of bearing themselves in the earth? How many
- 25:49Speaker 1: of being impaled? How many fly in the firmament? How
- 25:52Speaker 1: many dwell in water? But they shall all be burnt
- 25:55Speaker 1: in the fire. For want of divine knowledge, the demigods
- 25:59Speaker 1: have grown weary searching for God. The archdemons have grown
- 26:03Speaker 1: weary striving with him. The wives have grown weary exercising
- 26:06Speaker 1: their wisdom. They who repeat his name have grown weary
- 26:09Speaker 1: of watching. Men have grown weary of grinding and applying
- 26:14Speaker 1: sandal to themselves. They have grown weary of applying excellent
- 26:17Speaker 1: attar of roses. They have grown weary of worshiping stones
- 26:21Speaker 1: and offering them pudding. They have grown weary of visiting
- 26:24Speaker 1: cemeteries in Yogi's places of burial. They have grown weary
- 26:28Speaker 1: of smearing walls and of being marked with the brand
- 26:30Speaker 1: of idols. The celestial musicians have grown weary of singing.
- 26:34Speaker 1: All the canars have grown weary of their penance, but
- 26:37Speaker 1: none of them have found God. The following is Googobin
- 26:43Speaker 1: Singh's conception of the divinity. God is without passion, without color,
- 26:48Speaker 1: without form, without outline. He is without worldly love, without anger,
- 26:52Speaker 1: without enmity, without jealousy, is without karma, without air, without birth,
- 26:57Speaker 1: and without cast He had no friend, no enemy, no father,
- 27:01Speaker 1: no mother. He hath no worldly love, no house, no desires,
- 27:04Speaker 1: no home. He hath no son, no friend, no enemy,
- 27:07Speaker 1: no wife. He is invisible, without distinguishing dress, and unborn.
- 27:11Speaker 1: He is ever the bestower of supernatural power and wisdom.
- 27:14Speaker 1: He is of size beyond measure. His form and outline
- 27:17Speaker 1: cannot be known, nor where he dwelleth, nor in what
- 27:21Speaker 1: disguises he wandereth, nor what his name is, nor what
- 27:25Speaker 1: he is called. How shall I describe him? He cannot
- 27:28Speaker 1: be described. He hath no disease or sorrow, or worldly
- 27:31Speaker 1: love or mother, no calmer, no superstition, no birth, no caste.
- 27:35Speaker 1: He hath no jealousy, no Garbine is unborn. I bow
- 27:38Speaker 1: to him as one. I bow to him as one.
- 27:42Speaker 1: He is beyond all things and from the beginning, the
- 27:44Speaker 1: dispenser of wisdom. He is indivisible, indestructible, primal, peerless, and imperishable.
- 27:50Speaker 1: He hath no caste or lineage or form of color.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I bow to the primal and infrangible one. How many
- 27:56Speaker 1: millions of worms like Krashan he created, built, fashion and again,
- 28:00Speaker 1: destroyed and created. He is unfathomable, fearless, primal, unrivaled, imperishable.
- 28:05Speaker 1: He is beyond all things from the beginning, imperfect in
- 28:08Speaker 1: his splendor. He feeleth nor mental nor bodily pain. He
- 28:12Speaker 1: is unfathomable. His glory is infrangible. He is from the beginning,
- 28:16Speaker 1: and his majesty is indestructible. He hath no birth, no death,
- 28:20Speaker 1: no cast no pain. He is infrangible, radiant, unimmercible, impossible
- 28:25Speaker 1: to be controlled. He hath no worldly love, no home.
- 28:28Speaker 1: He hath affection for men and is his own master.
- 28:32Speaker 1: He is powerful, cannot be anywhere, contained, radiant the torture
- 28:36Speaker 1: of enemies. He cannot be depicted in the past, the present,
- 28:39Speaker 1: or the future. He is not rich or poor, he
- 28:41Speaker 1: hath no form or outline. He feeleth not competousness or
- 28:45Speaker 1: mental anxiety. He is not formed out of the elements.
- 28:48Speaker 1: He belongeth to no sect. He hath no enemy, no friend,
- 28:51Speaker 1: no worldly love, no home. He is eternal and ever
- 28:54Speaker 1: contained in all things. He beareth love to all. He
- 28:57Speaker 1: hath no lust, no wrath, no avarice, no worldly love.
- 29:00Speaker 1: He is unborn, indestructible, prime or peerless, invisible. He is
- 29:05Speaker 1: not subject to birth or death. He hath no cast
- 29:07Speaker 1: nor pain. He hath no sickness, no sorrow. He is
- 29:10Speaker 1: fearless and without affliction. He is impenetrable and divisible, without
- 29:14Speaker 1: karma and without death. He cannot be destroyed or to famed.
- 29:17Speaker 1: He is bright and without a cherisher. He hath no father,
- 29:21Speaker 1: no mother, no cast, no body. He hath no worldly love,
- 29:24Speaker 1: no home, no doubt, no fear. He hath no form.
- 29:26Speaker 1: There is no king over him. He hath no body,
- 29:29Speaker 1: no acts attached to him. He hath no fear. He
- 29:31Speaker 1: cannot be killed or pierced. He hath no doubts. He
- 29:34Speaker 1: is eternal, ever present, and of sizes beyond measure. I
- 29:37Speaker 1: bow to him as one I bow to him. As one.
- 29:40Speaker 1: His glory is inexpressible. He is from the beginning. He
- 29:43Speaker 1: is unassociated, imperishable, imperceptible, and unestablished. I bow to him
- 29:48Speaker 1: as one. I bow to him as one. He hath
- 29:51Speaker 1: no worldly love, no home, no grief, no relation. He
- 29:54Speaker 1: is a far off, pure, undefiled. None can behold him.
- 29:57Speaker 1: He hath no cast, no lineage, no friend, no minister.
- 30:00Speaker 1: To the one independent being. About to the one independent being.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Heeth no religion, no superstition, no shame, no relation, no armor,
- 30:07Speaker 1: no shield, no karma, no fear, no enemy, no friends,
- 30:11Speaker 1: no sun. About to the primal being, About to the
- 30:13Speaker 1: primal Being. The bodies of some undergo cold, heat, and rain.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Some sit in one posture for an age. Some make
- 30:21Speaker 1: efforts to study the science of yag. Men strive, but
- 30:24Speaker 1: even then find not God's limits. Some, with their arms raised,
- 30:27Speaker 1: wander in different countries. Some scorch themselves between the sun
- 30:31Speaker 1: and surrounding fires. Some recite the Simratis, the shastars, the beds.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Some expound amorous poetry, others the books of the Mohammedans.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Some perform fire sacrifice. Some live on air. Some millions
- 30:42Speaker 1: eat carrying, some consume vegetables, some milk, some leaves. But
- 30:46Speaker 1: even so God becometh not manifest unto them. The following
- 30:51Speaker 1: sawa yas also are sometimes read at the administration of
- 30:55Speaker 1: the pahul One. God ever cheri sheeth the poor. He
- 31:00Speaker 1: saveth saints, and destroyeth enemies, birds, beasts, mountain, snakes and kings.
- 31:04Speaker 1: All he ever cherieshith. He cherisheth animals and sea and land.
- 31:08Speaker 1: He considereth not their evil acts, compassionate to the poor,
- 31:12Speaker 1: a notion of mercy. He beholdeth man's sins, but wearieth
- 31:17Speaker 1: not of giving. Two he destroyeth misery and sin. He
- 31:22Speaker 1: crusheth an army of evil men. In a moment he
- 31:25Speaker 1: breaketh those unbreakable by human power. He smiteth the very valiant,
- 31:29Speaker 1: but cherisheth love for those who truly love him. Vis knew,
- 31:32Speaker 1: the Lord of Lokshmi cannot find his limit. The vades
- 31:36Speaker 1: and the books of the Mussulmans cannot utter his secret.
- 31:39Speaker 1: The beneficent one ever beholdeth men's secrets. Yet he becometh
- 31:43Speaker 1: not angry, and withholdeth not their daily bread. Three He
- 31:48Speaker 1: made worms, moths, dear serpents. The past, the future, and
- 31:52Speaker 1: the present, the demi, Gods and demons were ruined through
- 31:54Speaker 1: their pride. They knew not God's secret and were led
- 31:57Speaker 1: astray by error. The vEDS, the paranh, the Koran, and
- 32:00Speaker 1: other Mohammedan books have grown weary of taking God's account,
- 32:04Speaker 1: but they have not found it. Without the light of
- 32:07Speaker 1: true love. Hath any one obtain the honor of finding God?
- 32:11Speaker 1: For He is primal, endless, and fathomable, without enmity, and
- 32:15Speaker 1: fearless in the past, future, and present. He is without end,
- 32:18Speaker 1: one out of many, without blemish, sin or stain, and indestructible.
- 32:22Speaker 1: He is the creator and destroyer of worlds. He supporteth
- 32:25Speaker 1: life on sea and land, compassionate to the poor, a
- 32:28Speaker 1: mind of mercy, beautiful is the Holy Lord of wealth. Five.
- 32:34Speaker 1: He hath not lust or wrath, or covetousness, or worldly love,
- 32:37Speaker 1: or sickness or sorrow, or enjoyment or fear. He is
- 32:40Speaker 1: without about it. He beareth love to all. Yet is
- 32:43Speaker 1: he devoid of sensual love. He is homeless and indestructible
- 32:47Speaker 1: to those who know him. He giveth to those who
- 32:49Speaker 1: know him. Not he also giveth. He giveth to the earth,
- 32:53Speaker 1: He giveth to the heavens, O Man, Why waverest Thou,
- 32:56Speaker 1: the beautiful and Holy Lord of wealth, wilt care for THEE.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Six He preserveth men in many ways, from sickness, from sorrow,
- 33:04Speaker 1: from water, and from sprites. When enemies aim blows at us,
- 33:08Speaker 1: none of them may reach our bodies, for He holdeth
- 33:11Speaker 1: out his hand to protect us and hinder the army
- 33:13Speaker 1: of sin from approaching us. What else need I say
- 33:16Speaker 1: to THEE, O Man, God protecteth THEE with the screen
- 33:19Speaker 1: of the womb. Seven the Yakshas, serpents, demons, demi gods
- 33:25Speaker 1: all meditate on THEE, the inscrutable one, on earth, in heaven,
- 33:29Speaker 1: and in the nether regions of Hell. Yakshas serpents all
- 33:32Speaker 1: bow their heads unto THEE. But they cannot find the
- 33:35Speaker 1: limit of Thy glory. The vEDS describe THEE as indescribable.
- 33:39Speaker 1: All the demi gods who search for THEE have grown
- 33:42Speaker 1: weary of their search. They have not found THEE, O God.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Eight beings like Nearad, Brahma, Ramna, the Riki, all combined
- 33:51Speaker 1: to sing Thy praises. The vEDS in the books of
- 33:54Speaker 1: the Mussulmans have not found Thy secret. All have grown
- 33:57Speaker 1: weary in their search. God hath not been found by anyone. Shiev,
- 34:02Speaker 1: the Lord of Yuma, cannot find thy limit. The Sids,
- 34:05Speaker 1: with their spiritual leaders, and the sons of Brahma meditate
- 34:08Speaker 1: on thee O. Men, meditating your hearts on him whose
- 34:11Speaker 1: immeasurable power is diffused throughout the whole world. Nine the Beds,
- 34:16Speaker 1: the Korans, the Koran, and other muscle man books have
- 34:21Speaker 1: not found his secret. All kings have grown sore, weary
- 34:24Speaker 1: searching for it. They could not find the secret of
- 34:26Speaker 1: the Inscrutable. After great prevail, they proclaimed him invulnerable. Thou,
- 34:31Speaker 1: o Lord, hast no passion, no form, no outline, no color,
- 34:35Speaker 1: no relation, no sorrow, no companion. Thou wast in the beginning,
- 34:39Speaker 1: and yet hadst no beginning. Thou art unfathomable. Without distinguishing
- 34:43Speaker 1: dress and without jealousy. He who repeateth thy name shall
- 34:47Speaker 1: save his relations. Ten men have performed millions of ablutions
- 34:53Speaker 1: at places of pilgrimage. They have made many offerings and
- 34:56Speaker 1: endured great fasts, putting on the dress of great pas
- 35:00Speaker 1: the tints, and wearing long hair. They have wandered in
- 35:03Speaker 1: many countries, But they have not found the beloved God.
- 35:06Speaker 1: They have made millions of attitudes of contemplation and prostrations,
- 35:10Speaker 1: many offerings of their limbs to tutelary divinities, and blackened
- 35:14Speaker 1: their faces, But without meditating on the name of the compassionate,
- 35:17Speaker 1: to the poor the deathless, they have at last gone
- 35:20Speaker 1: to Death's abode. Thou Art the discharger of arms, the
- 35:24Speaker 1: holder of the earth and the umbrella, the betrayer of kings,
- 35:27Speaker 1: the great tormentor of enemies, the bestower of gifts, the
- 35:30Speaker 1: great enhance of honor, the giver of a resting place,
- 35:33Speaker 1: the cutter of death's noose, conqueror in the fight, remover
- 35:37Speaker 1: of obstacles, great bestower of wisdom. Thou Art honored even
- 35:41Speaker 1: among the most honored. Thou Art learned in divine knowledge.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Thou Art the great giver of wisdom, the destroyer of
- 35:47Speaker 1: the God of death. The dwellers of the east know
- 35:51Speaker 1: not thy limit. The goddess Hinguila, who dwelleth in the Himalayas,
- 35:55Speaker 1: meditateth on thee, the gird disease of gore. Seeing the
- 35:59Speaker 1: praises of thy name, the Yogis practice yog to be
- 36:02Speaker 1: united with thee. How many suspend their breath to obtain
- 36:06Speaker 1: the The herbs of Arabia worship Thy name. The Feranjis
- 36:09Speaker 1: of France worship THEE. The Caandaris and queries know THEE.
- 36:14Speaker 1: The residents of the West recognize THEE as the object
- 36:17Speaker 1: of their love. The Marathas and the gods hardly do
- 36:22Speaker 1: the penance. The natives of Telang fix THEE in their
- 36:25Speaker 1: hearts and recognize THEE as the abode of religion. Like
- 36:28Speaker 1: milk and chirwad like buttermilk and tranair like moonlight on
- 36:34Speaker 1: the banks of the Jamna, like a female swan in
- 36:37Speaker 1: Turkey of the Shias, like a diamond in who Sinabad,
- 36:41Speaker 1: like the stream of the Ganges when it blendeth with
- 36:43Speaker 1: the Seven Seas, like quilk, silver in Plagar like silver
- 36:47Speaker 1: and Rampur like Saltpeter and Surangabad like the Champa flower
- 36:52Speaker 1: in chander Ricot, like moonlight in chandigar Thy praise flourish
- 36:58Speaker 1: like the Malati flower, Christou and Kayla's kama Ghar and
- 37:02Speaker 1: Kashipur like a mirror in Surangabad, like snow in the Himalayas,
- 37:07Speaker 1: like Shiv's necklace in Halban, air like a swan, and
- 37:10Speaker 1: Hajipur on seeing which the heart is fascinated, like white
- 37:14Speaker 1: sandal and Champawati, like the moon in Chandrajir, like moonlight
- 37:18Speaker 1: in chanda Ghar, like the g Ganges on chief's head,
- 37:21Speaker 1: like cranes in Bulandabad shineth. The light of Thy praises
- 37:26Speaker 1: the Persians, the English, the double faced men of France,
- 37:30Speaker 1: the mir Dan, players of Makrown sing thy praises, the
- 37:34Speaker 1: inhabitants of bagh Khar, of Kandhar, and of Gore, and
- 37:38Speaker 1: the Gokhars and Gur disease. And those who live on
- 37:42Speaker 1: air meditate on Thy name in the East, in Palau,
- 37:46Speaker 1: in cam Rap and Kaman. Wherever man go at, there
- 37:50Speaker 1: thou presidest. Thy glorio is perfect. Written and spoken incantations
- 37:55Speaker 1: cannot affect the old Lord, and none can find the
- 37:57Speaker 1: limit of thy praises. God is peerless, imperishable, His throne
- 38:01Speaker 1: is immovable. He is peerless, endless, His praise is unrivaled.
- 38:04Speaker 1: He is indestructible and the invisible Lord. He is everywhere King.
- 38:08Speaker 1: He blossometh in the forest and the glades. His splendor
- 38:11Speaker 1: is like the spring everywhere diffused. The Great One pervadeth
- 38:14Speaker 1: the woods and glades, birds and quadrupeds. He everywhere blossomeeth.
- 38:18Speaker 1: He is beautiful and wise. He blossometh like flowers, and
- 38:21Speaker 1: glittereth like the peacock. Cupid, on recognizing him, waveth a
- 38:25Speaker 1: chari over him. His power is perfect. He is the
- 38:28Speaker 1: bestower of food, the merciful, the treasury of favor, the perfect,
- 38:31Speaker 1: the bounties. Wherever we look, there appereth his splendor. He
- 38:35Speaker 1: is free from anger, and a treasury of favor. He
- 38:38Speaker 1: everywhere blossomeeth. He is beautiful and wise. He is the
- 38:41Speaker 1: great king of the woods and glades, of sea and land.
- 38:43Speaker 1: His splendor appereth everywhere. He is the treasury of favor.
- 38:46Speaker 1: His light dazzleth. His glory is perfect. The sky and
- 38:49Speaker 1: the earth repeat his name over the seven heavens and
- 38:52Speaker 1: the seven hells. His net of karma is spread unseen
- 38:56Speaker 1: in of compositions of Guru Go been seeing extracts from
- 39:02Speaker 1: a cal ouh stop
