• 0:00
[upbeat rock music] I gotta let that intro play a little longer than normal.
• 0:21
[laughs] I was feeling it. [laughs] Full Spectrum Cycling number 64, folks. 64, dude. What is it, June 12th? Yes, it is. [laughs] Quick math. Thank you. Keeping me on my toes. JK. Hi, hi. Tony. Hey.
• 0:38
Sven here in the studio today. The revamped Locust Street traffic- Ah... cru- cruising by out front. Indeed, indeed. There was a little more mass transit, it seemed, like funneling through.
• 0:54
There were, like, three while I was locking up. Oh. And that doesn't seem normal, so. The- But nothing is normal anymore. It's- The 10-rider buses? Yeah. Well, I guess that would do it.
• 1:04
It's what, it's what you get, so maybe you have to run more buses. Oh, the damn logic. Uh, raining. Had a tropical storm up here. Yes, yes. I was all get, decked out for it, too, and it didn't happen.
• 1:19
[laughs] Well, well, it happened, but I wasn't on steed when it happened, [laughs] dammit. Oh, yesterday was not a much. Today there was a much for a little bit. Oh, yes, yeah.
• 1:29
Or either that, or it happened while I was sleeping last night, possibly. Yeah, I was porch-sitting and the, the winds were working out to my favor and yeah, it was very enjoyable. Excellent. Yes, it was. It's been
• 1:46
electric bike week here at the shop. Yes, it has. Beep, boop, boop, beep, beep, boo, boop. [laughs] I'm the operator of my pocket calculator. Got a dangle, big old, big old Bullet, Bullet with a Bafang mid drive. Mr.
• 2:00
Tony was able to get his up and running with a Bafang 311 front hub. Stealth. Stealthy. Very, very minimalist. Very. Batteries, controller, throttle, motor. Don't worry about it. Boom.
• 2:17
I think it's fun, lots of fun. Got to play with our test equipment some. That's exciting. It's almost as good as getting a new computer. [laughs] Or a new video game. Exactly. Yeah. Or a new bike.
• 2:32
Or a new-to-me video game. Yeah, new-to-me video game. Yeah. Are you playing video games? Uh, I'm, I'm going way back in the well. I downloaded, uh, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City from- Oh, yeah, yeah...
• 2:44
and I'm very excited. Is that a PS2? Yes. PS2. I think I s- Still holds up... You know what? I have a- It still holds up...
• 2:50
I have a box with a PS2 in it and that game, for sure, I don't remember what else is in it, sitting at the warehouse being neglected. Maybe it should come over here and
• 3:01
it'll make for good winter sitting in front of the TV- Yeah... game playing. All you have to do is, uh, you know, just- It's, it's not multiplayer though, right? All you have to do is steal... Yeah, yeah.
• 3:09
All you have to do is steal a car, and then you got the, the, uh, radio stations going. Oh, cool. So you don't even have to- All right... like, play. Yeah. You know, it's just good- Yeah... '80s... Yeah, good '80s jams.
• 3:18
Right on. Kinda Miami Vice-ish. Yeah, for sure. Uh, well, I don't know. What's been going on? 'Cause I don't know where my head's been at. It's been kind of a weird week.
• 3:29
My brain has been frazzled or something weird, so I don't even know if I remember anything. [laughs] Got yelled at by a guy on the, uh, voicemail. I wish I coulda... I don't know what happened to it.
• 3:39
I made it go away or something. He- [laughs]... yelled at us for saying something about, something about cops and stuff last week.
• 3:48
I don't even, unfortunately, remember exactly what we said without [laughs] listening to the show, but- Yeah... something to do with, uh, wood, wood... I don't know. Whatever.
• 3:56
I guess we're not supposed to talk about that to 50% of the people. Oh, well. But I don't know which 50% it is. Well, you know, opinions are opinions- Right... and assholes. So- Everybody has one.
• 4:09
[laughs] Sorry, I was in dad joke land there. Right. Uh, Mr. Schlabowski will be calling in a few minutes. He did another trip up north. Right on. See what he has to say about his, uh, waterfall bicycle route.
• 4:26
I did have my first practical effective use of a Surly Junk strap over the weekend. Nice. Not really. Not to hold your junk up? No, no.
• 4:36
I was putting an empty into the side of my bag, and I did a nice little finger filet. Oh. Nice, good, deep cut, and- Junk strap tourniquet? Yep.
• 4:49
[laughs] I ha- I had a notepad with some loose le- little loose leafs in it. Wrapped that up. Ring, da-ding, da-ding. And then made this annoying, weird contraption, construction on it. It was great in a own strange way.
• 5:04
And then Ziegel showed up and he's like, "Uh, is that a Junk strap tourniquet?" [laughs] I'm like, "Yes, and yes it is." [laughs] Were you at, uh, Erastus B. Wolcott's statue? Yes. Holding my finger up in the air.
• 5:15
[laughs] Were you- Anyone walking by looked like I was just trying to keep the thing above my heart... Doesn't Erastus have his finger up in the air? He could. I don't know. Oh, my Lord. Year number one kind of a deal.
• 5:24
Yeah. [laughs] Um, so all of the new Surly tires and their fancy, new, more eco-friendly packaging have a strap. It is not, uh, probably exactly a Junk strap. Right. But it is pretty cool that you- Mm-hmm...
• 5:38
get a strap with your tires. Yeah, yeah. Is that the one you used? Mm-hmm. No, no. Oh, you used the old Junk strap. Yeah. School Junk strap. Yeah, something that really gave a, a good tautness.
• 5:46
The Velcro on the current one seems pretty interesting. Yeah, yeah. If I had it in my bag, I probably would've had a, that as well to anchor something else down.
• 5:57
[laughs] They've gotta have a strap engineer at QBP because the bag for the Miloko has a neat, different kinda strap as well. It's- More rubbery. Rubbery, sticky and rubbery Uh-oh.
• 6:11
Ah, you said the magic word, so this is good. [laughs] Tony's gonna be using that Miluko bar in the adjunct bag for holding his batteries. Apparently, we can get four batteries. [laughs] Oh, yeah, nice.
• 6:28
Hey, send that. I'm sure people wanna see that in the show notes. [laughs] It's, it's not so s- so surgical, but- Effective... effective. Very effective. Ah. So- [laughs]
• 6:42
Just text that, email that to me and I'll- [laughs]... put it in the- I'll do something with it... I'll put a photo of it in the show notes... courtesy, courtesy of, courtesy of Chris, you know, photo credit.
• 6:49
Oh, right on. I'll, I'll say that. Well, he was gonna come by today, but for the rain apparently, so. They're, uh, kinda ramping up for the Milwaukee- Mm-hmm... by Bike touring company to get its,
• 7:00
uh, get rolling, hopefully. They're gonna use some of those Army surplus shovel bags we all like so much- [laughs] Right on. Right on... as, as a, uh, as a kind of a handlebar bag, get to carry I dunno what.
• 7:14
Since they come so inexpensively, though, I say go for it. And- Well, whatever locking... yeah, so- That's, that's the only problem. But I mean, that's-...
• 7:21
whatever you're taking, maybe throw some snacks in there and whatnot so people don't have to put 'em in their pockets and melt all over the place and...
• 7:29
But it, for the, for the money, it's a pretty nice [laughs] little bag. Oh, yeah. And if you ever wanted to actually carry a portable shovel, you could. Exactly.
• 7:40
Which just in case somebody wants one, I, I have one here, so. It's the bag of spades. Yeah. [laughs] The bag of spades. [clears throat] Yeah, man. [clears throat] Tony's all busy over there today. I'm sorry.
• 7:54
[laughs] Tony, Tony's multitasking. He's here. He's here. He's- I'm driving... he's on a computer, and he's on a conference call, and he's on the show all at the same time. [laughs] That's- How about that, folks?
• 8:00
That's multi-talented right there. Yeah. It's partially Stroh related. I'm downloading the Bafang software. Oh, yeah. That's good. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Gotta configure, or at least there's error codes.
• 8:12
I wanna see if it has, it's threw any codes that we can discern. Just a little s- just a little hitch in its giddy up, a little, I dunno, shudder in its shakedown. Uh, a little- Shaggle in the waggle...
• 8:28
something like that. Yeah, something weird. Just, just ain't- [laughs] It, it just ain't quite right. That's all. Um, Fat Tire Tour Milwaukee- Fat Tire Tour Milwaukee. Hey...
• 8:39
got a route if you wanna come to Milwaukee and do what would've been the Fat Tire Tour on your own terms. Nice route. Yeah. Lots of parks. It's a park route. Some sort of, uh,
• 8:52
stopping along the way if you so desire to, uh, drinking establishments that are slowly reopening. Some faster and less, [laughs] less concerned about your health than others possibly, but- Yeah. [laughs] Yeah...
• 9:07
I say anybody that has an outside thing, you know, that's pretty good. You can- Yeah... you can distance outside, and, and the, the air moving around is a good thing for smacking down the- Yeah, I popped in-...
• 9:21
the COVID... I popped in, uh, over on Brady at the, uh, Up and Under, and it's l- you know, it's l- exactly the same as how I was navigating bars before that- Did-...
• 9:34
or during this where it's like- Did they have half the number of seats or? Uh, yeah. I w- I didn't really pay attention. I mean, it, there was, like, next to nobody in there, and then ordered
• 9:46
drinkies, took 'em outside- Yeah... and, you know. It's, it's- I tend not to hang around... essentially what I'm doing anyways. Right... I'm going to a bar and then leaving the premises.
• 9:55
This way I'm just not getting shooed off the premises and ingesting it there. Yeah. So. Well, I think for the time being they should, uh, make a, a rule around where you can just drink to your heart's content outside.
• 10:08
Yeah. Anywhere. Exactly. Middle of the street if you want. I mean, it's Milwaukee for God's sakes. Well, you- [laughs]... the whole country honestly.
• 10:14
Well, yeah, that too, but I mean, it does, you know, I mean, it was pretty much that anyways. How about Shorewood? Do you think they'd go for it up there?
• 10:20
[laughs] Uh, well, I think they kinda, they cracked their seal a little earlier than City of Milwaukee did. 'Cause I went by a couple places and I was like, "Uh, are you- Hmm... supposed to be open?"
• 10:34
And I knew it was for, like, you know, pickup and curbside and whatever, but then all of a sudden I looked over and I saw, like, pool playing, and I'm like, "Oh, okay.
• 10:42
I think you are opener than I believe you were [laughs] going to be." I don't, I don't know if anybody out of our, uh, city knows where Shorewood is, but they probably do now 'cause of the spitting incident. Mm-hmm.
• 10:53
Oh, yes. Some lovely young lady- Mm... old lady, uh, spat on one of the protesters for Christ's sake. Yes. Well, and she also assaulted one the next day too when they were in front of her house.
• 11:08
And kneed a cop in the groin area. Mm-hmm. Can't have that. Oh, yeah. That'll get you arrested. I did see someone- That'll get you arrested [laughs] right there. Oh, yeah. I saw her getting semi-dragged from her house.
• 11:17
Yeah. I guess I could kick her door in. [laughs] Oh, hey, I'm gonna push this button here. Welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? [laughs] It's Dave Sladoski again. Hey. Hi.
• 11:33
Hi, Dave A- Dave again. Awesome. How's it going, Dave again? Good, good. I just got back from another, uh, adventure, so I thought I'd give you guys a quick little call. Yeah, that would be awesome.
• 11:46
I'd love to hear about what you've been doing.
• 11:47
Our, um, our erst- our, our, our other erstwhile adventurer, uh, Big Sexy, took a trip back home to, uh, Louisiana to try and help out a friend, so he's not on the road currently. So now you're,
• 12:00
you're the, uh, you're up, you're on, you're not even on deck. You're up. You're up for your- Oh, okay. Yeah. [laughs] Good. Wasn't, wasn't sure if, wasn't sure if he's, he was calling in or not.
• 12:10
Um- I have been following his progress somewhat, but, uh, um, so anyway, yeah, uh, over the weekend, uh, my, uh, good friend and neighbor, Tom Schuler, um, who, uh, to your listeners who don't know, was one of the guys who started and raced on the 7-Eleven team.
• 12:28
Um, it was really him and Jim Ochowicz that started it. So he's in the Wisconsin Bicycling Hall of Fame and was a US champion and all that sort of race.
• 12:37
He gave Bernard Hinault, pushed him while Bernard peed in the Giro d'Italia. [laughs] So, uh, so he's, he's got fairly, uh, serious credentials.
• 12:47
Um, uh, um, but perhaps I have a little bit, uh, uh, better palomar when it comes to, uh, bikepacking. So, um, we're, we're a good, a good, uh, uh, team on a road trip.
• 12:59
So, uh, he and I went up to the Bayfield Peninsula to dial in, uh, a few more, um, sections of my, you know, upcoming soon-to-be-announced giant waterfall w- uh, bikepacking trip up there.
• 13:12
And, uh, we, we got back last night and, uh, so it was a, it was a good trip. And you took, what bike did you take?
• 13:22
Well, yeah, and, and so Greg, you and I were talking about, uh, I, I, I took my Milwaukee Bicycle Company Feral 29er.
• 13:29
It's a, a steel, a standard steel 29er, uh, you know, mountain bike that built at Waterford Precision Cycles by Milwaukee Bicycle Company. Um, and, uh, I sort of had them strip the powder coating off it.
• 13:44
Um, it, it had been set up as a straight up, you know, sort of racing 29er, and I don't really do that anymore.
• 13:50
So I had them strip the powder coating off it and, uh, and add some additional braze ons for bikepacking and I built a new rear rack for it and stuff like that. So I took that bike.
• 13:59
Um, when I switched the handlebar and stem and stuff, the brake lines and cables are not ideal for wrapping around bikepacking bags.
• 14:08
Um, so I was gonna have you guys, uh, put new, uh, brake lines on it for me a little bit longer so I could wrap it around the, um, bag, the front handlebar bags better.
• 14:18
But I- the brake lines, I think, took a, they were out of stock and took a little longer to come in.
• 14:23
I, I thought rather than try to do that like three days right before I go out of town, [laughs] it'd be better to wait and do that afterwards. Um, so- Probably, probably a good call. [laughs] The bike... Yeah.
• 14:34
[laughs] So the bike worked out well. Um, I do wanna still have you guys change those brake lines, but, um, but, uh, the bike worked out quite well. Um, and the system was, uh, dialed in pretty well. Tom, I advised...
• 14:48
The Bayfield Peninsula, for those that don't know, is, is a large section of it was a former underground like pre-glacial lake. So it's all sand. It's hilly. It's still really hilly, but it's sand.
• 15:05
Um, so I advised Tom that, you know, although I've ridden a lot of those roads, they're not really roads, you know, but sandy forest roads is what they are. Um, on my, um,
• 15:18
42, you know, millimeter gravel road bike, I, I felt like the mountain bike was the better choice. Um, and you could even bring a fat bike if you wanted to. Um- Oh, that's, that's interesting...
• 15:32
you need, you need- I, I'd, I'd like to do the fat bike thing- Yeah, if you need-... just because you can't fat bike on the beach anymore in a lot of spots, so. Right. Hey, I, yeah, that's a whole nother story.
• 15:41
Um, I, I've been suggesting to anybody that'll listen, I met with a couple of buddies. I, I met with Gary Crandell up there. Um, I met with some friends from the Campbell Board, um, when I, when I was back in Cable.
• 15:53
Um, I always run into somebody in Cable, but, um, I keep suggesting that there are no fat bike races
• 16:03
that I'm aware of held during, you know, summer or warm weather, um, where fat bikes actually have a distinct advantage.
• 16:12
There's a lot of winter fat bike races, um, uh, where fat bikes have a definite advantage over a plus bike or a mountain bike.
• 16:20
But most, if not all, that I'm aware of warm weather, summer, spring, fall mountain bike races, uh, may have a fat bike category, but they're regular mountain bike races. Sure.
• 16:33
Whereas like you could, you could seriously put together a 50 or even 100 mile, um, route for a race up in the Bayfield Peninsula.
• 16:45
You could have 100 mile race that never, that wasn't even a loop that, or that wasn't like a multiple loop course. You know, 100 all different point, all different miles.
• 16:56
Um, and have it be a fat bike race where, where fat bikes would have... You'd be silly to bring anything other than a fat bike 'cause the sand is so soft. That sounds interesting. Yeah.
• 17:10
But pla- There's a, so in, in, so this is way north. This is in the s- in the m- way up north part of the state. What about, does- Yeah...
• 17:18
did sand, did, did, did- So when, when our, back to our trip, yeah, back to our trip.
• 17:21
What, what we did is, once again, just because it's so darn handy and because I love the little town of Cable, um, we, we left my truck in, uh, the Cable Municipal parking lot where you can just leave your vehicle and they don't care.
• 17:37
Um, no fee, no anything, just do it anytime you want. You don't even have to tell anybody. Um, and it's safe there. And then they also have bathrooms with, you know, water and stuff like that there.
• 17:48
So we, we left my truck in Cable and then we took off from Cable, and then we headed kind of northeast towards, uh, the Valhalla Pub & Grill. Um, and, uh, and then we spent the night in Valhalla.
• 18:06
Tom and I had a night in Valhalla. [laughs] There's no other way to say that. With, with, with Thor and the other, uh- Lode, uh, she-... the other, the other, the other fellows[laughs] Yeah.
• 18:17
So, so we, we spent the night in Valhalla, and then, um, we're, we're probably the only people that have ever been able to, like, reach Valhalla and then, like, leave.
• 18:28
[laughs] Although everybo- every, every Viking wants to reach Valhalla. Right. [laughs] It's kinda like, "Well, thanks, Thor, can I go back to my regular life now at all?"
• 18:36
[laughs] At least, at least wait another 20 years. And so then we spent... Yeah, we spent the night there, and w- so that was about 50 miles. Um, and it was a mixed gravel and sandy ATV sorta route there.
• 18:52
And, um, and then we headed, um, west and north and rode up to, uh, Cornucopia, Herbster, went to Lost Creek Falls outside of Cornucopia, as well as Siskiwit Falls outside of Cornucopia, went to Twin Falls in Port Wing.
• 19:10
Um, so rode through Herbster to, down to Port Wing, and then straight, pretty much straight south from Port Wing, Delta, um, uh, through the Mocha Sand Barrens in the Bayfield Peninsula.
• 19:24
And, um, wherein it was, that day was, like, a 70-mile, 75-mile route,
• 19:32
90% sandy terrain, um, various degrees of soft to hard, with a straight-up, like, 25, 30 mile an hour headwind and 92 degrees. Wow. So I kind of felt like Lawrence of Arabia.
• 19:48
[laughs] Yeah, that's, uh, that's warm for up that way. Yeah, it was unseasonably warm, and then remember Schuler's on, you know, 38C truck checkpoint. Um, I'm at least on 2.35s, you know, on my mountain bike.
• 20:05
And, and, uh, so he, you know, he, he had to walk a lot more sections than I did, and he was not able to make quite as good a time in the softer sections as I was. Um, but he did manage it all.
• 20:21
Um, and when we finished in Delta just in time to get a burger at the Delta Diner on their Monday night burger night, which is kind of a big thing for them, um,
• 20:32
and we found out our campground was closed, um, that we were gonna stay in. Oh. F- just because of the- So-... the, because of the COVID thing, or is it... Yeah.
• 20:42
So what the g- we were gonna stay at, uh, Delta Campground which is a county-run cou- campground, um, and it looked open on their website, but when I actually called from the Delta Diner to, like, try to get it checked in while we were eating, um,
• 20:58
they said they were only open to seasonal campers- Oh... um, to reduce the, you know, number of people that were coming through their bathrooms and stuff.
• 21:07
So our options at that point were go across the street and do dispersed camping in, you know, the Chequamegon Forest which is totally allowed and fine. Um,
• 21:20
but then after, honestly after, you know, 75 miles of 92 degrees and a massive headwind and sand, r- I mean, w- I was coated in sweat and bug spray and sand from head to toe.
• 21:37
I was desperate for a shower.
• 21:40
[laughs] So, so Tom and I looked at it and we, we, rather than camp, which we were totally set up to do, um, we figured we'd, we'd, uh, skip the sort of gravel route that I had intended to take back from Delta back to Cable, and we just hopped on the road and took pavement, kind of a straight line.
• 21:58
It was 20 miles straight back to Cable. So we were in Cable by 8:30. A buddy of mine who's on the Campbell board has got an Airbnb. He let us stay there for free. We got showers, cleaned up.
• 22:10
Oh, and I arrived at the Triple G, um, gas station with 30 seconds to spare in which I could buy a six-pack of beer- [laughs]... before they got to close there. I, yeah, that's a bonus. They were- Bonus checkpoint...
• 22:24
they were literally locking the door as I, as I rolled up, and I gave my, my best puppy dog look at 'em, and they said, "All right, you got two minutes."
• 22:34
[laughs] And I said, "All I want is a six-pack of beer," and they said, "Oh-" But they wouldn't give me one... "then you have 30 seconds." [laughs] I just wanted a Pepsi.
• 22:44
[laughs] But so I just ran to the cooler, put my hands in, grabbed the first two six-packs that came out and, and paid for 'em, and I, I ended up with, uh, uh, a n- a six-pack of New Glarus Two Women and, uh, Earth Rider Pale Ale.
• 23:01
So not too bad for no time to actually shop. Ni- nice setup for, um, the top of, the top of the hill. [bell ringing] It's all timing. Is it that time? Top of the hill. Yeah, it's good. Top of the hill.
• 23:13
Jake, JK's, uh, courtesy of JK today, top of the hill. Uh, you do the setup on it there, JK. Oh, it'd be the Potosi Snick Hollow IPA. Ah.
• 23:26
It's clocking in at that 6.5 Elkahooey and 65 International Bitter Girlfriend units. [laughs] And- There's a, there's a Ziegel angle to this beer, isn't there? Yeah, yeah.
• 23:40
Ran into Patrick Ziegel, uh, over the weekend, and he was mentioning some of the trails over by Potosi, and I had just driven right next to it, uh, a couple weeks ago.
• 23:51
And then it was just front of mind when I was at the store today. I'm just like, "Well, oh, oh, oh, hello, Potosi. You're every- oh, yeah, okay, and we are gonna use you today."
• 24:00
This beer received a gold medal at the 2016 World Beer Championships. That's what they say, yes. It is good. Mm-hmm. It is good. It's, uh... I don't know.
• 24:12
Why, is- Uh, have, have any of you guys been to the, uh, Potosi, uh, brewery and their beer museum? I have. It's beautiful, and the food's good, too. Yeah, it- I was about to, but we were on...
• 24:25
destination Yeah, it'd be great, right? Yeah, it is definitely worth the trip. Yeah. Yeah, it is. I agree. Yeah. So, well, I, I'm actually not drinking a beer right now. I have a, a rhubarb margarita in hand.
• 24:38
[laughs] So I'm with you, with you in spirit. Again, again with the rhubarb. Yeah, that was actually what I was gonna go for.
• 24:45
Yeah, you know, it- I, there was a Mob Craft rhubarb IPA that I was looking at that was there the last time and they didn't have it There's this giant pile in my backyard that won't leave me alone. Oh. Oh. Oh, oh, oh.
• 24:54
So how do you- If you wanna unload any of that... so how do you use it? Because parts of it aren't usable, correct? Um, so there's this mistaken belief that rhubarb is poisonous. No, it's not.
• 25:05
The leaves are, um, but not the stems. The stems do have some of the toxin in them, but you can still eat the stems raw if you want. However, you could get sick if you ate, like, you know, two pounds of it, you know?
• 25:18
But, um, the leaves are toxic. Um, so what I do is I just take, like, two pounds of rhubarb and I chop it up into little, you know, one-inch chunks and I boil it with, you know- Sugar...
• 25:29
um, eight cups of water and turn it in...
• 25:32
I used to turn it into simple syrup and add a bunch of sugar, but I've learned over time that it, it, uh, when you cook it, it's not quite as sour and it really doesn't need that sugar.
• 25:44
Um, so it acts a little bit more like a lime juice if you're making a margarita or something like that. Yeah. Um, and, uh,
• 25:52
and anyway, so yeah, so I just take a ton of rhubarb and put it in a pot and then cover it all up with water and boil it for 20 minutes and then strain it, and, uh, you got rhubarb juice. Right on.
• 26:03
Some people drink the rhubarb juice straight. Um, I prefer to mix it with tequila. Yeah. [laughs] Right on. I have copious amounts of rhubarb in the backyard if, uh- I, yes... JK wants to come by and- There you go...
• 26:14
grab stalks. All of you Yeah. Yes, yes. We have plenty. Give, please. It, it's so easy. I, I- I, I want, I want to lighten the load for all of you. [laughs] Your delicious load. Yeah. Um, sweet.
• 26:22
It's so easy to make the juice, um, and you can use it for lots of stuff. Um, so I, I encourage anyone to try it. Oh, for sure. For sure. Right on.
• 26:32
So when do you think your, um, unveiling of the waterfall ride will be forthcoming? You know, I don't know. Um, I really do wanna make sure I've got it 100% dialed in, and I've got it, you know...
• 26:47
boy, it's, like, 98%, um, right now. I could release it right now. And if anybody's... I, I'll, I tell you what, I'll, I'll... you know, I think I... Did I share it with you, the whole route on The Last Ride? Yeah.
• 27:01
I don't remember if it was actually the, just a picture of it or if it was the actual route. I, I remember we had a link to it in a couple weeks back. Yeah. Anybody that wants me to share it, I, I'm happy to share it.
• 27:13
Um, uh, but I haven't gone... You know, Ride With GPS generates its own cue, verbal cues and visual cues and stuff, and oftentimes they're, they're, they're wrong. And I'd like to clean a bunch of that stuff up.
• 27:28
And, um, like I said, I'm, I, I still wanted to tweak just this last little Bayfield peninsula section. Um, and, uh, I, I believe I've got that done. But I, I, I, I'm thinking of...
• 27:42
I've got friends that have, you know, work at bike shops that are, I don't know if you've heard this, Greg, but, but they're really busy during the summer. Um- [laughs] Yeah. Yes...
• 27:52
and don't really have time to go for a ride with me, but they wanna go on this route with me, so they're talking, like, end of August.
• 27:59
So maybe end of August I'll do sort of, like, the official big reveal a- after me and my buddies get to do the full, you know, 360, 70 mile Angelata. Right on. Well, you know how big our shop is.
• 28:13
There's a, uh, Jake Neuborn's Bullet is sitting in the middle of it right now, so you can imagine how- Oh, no [laughs]... how, how packed our shop [laughs] is right now. It's, uh, it, it...
• 28:23
There's, I think there's actually more electric bikes in here than actual, uh...
• 28:26
Well, maybe not quite, but there's a- Are, have you- There's a good amount to the- Are, you're not adding, uh, y- are you adding e-assist to Jake's Bluebird?
• 28:33
Uh, no, this is his Bullet that had the Bafang mid-drive B-RAD system or E-RAD or whatever it's called. [laughs] Oh, it's the white one. Right, right. It's the bike, the Bike Feds white one. Yeah, it's got some- Yeah...
• 28:43
it's got some little- It's that big... it's got a little stuttering and some hiccups and stuff that he wanted to- Oh... kinda see if we could figure out.
• 28:52
Yeah, I know Jake, Jake and Nicole, and, and July, their kid July, um, they have a, a blue one, a blue Bullet that's- Oh, right on... his personal cargo bike. Oh, th- yeah, this is the Bike Feds.
• 29:04
That, that's the bike, that's- Copy... that's the Bike Feds that they use for mobile bike repair. Which I guess is starting up now on the 15th apparently, so it's coming up that- Oh, sweet...
• 29:13
mobile bike repair will be back out in the world again somehow- Oh, sweet... under, under some form or another. Right, yeah, a little bit more social distancing, don't get too close, stuff like that, yeah. Yep.
• 29:25
Yeah, you know, that was one of the interesting things about being up north, where once again there are very few cases, um, and let's all cross our fingers it stays that way.
• 29:35
But, you know, so half the people that I'd run into, um, up there are, are scared as shit that somebody's gonna bring more- [laughs]... and it's gonna be bad. Right. So they're taking every precaution.
• 29:52
And the other half of the people I run into are like, "Man, if something bad was gonna happen, it would've happened already, and so we gotta make a freaking living. It's hard enough on a regular year. Um,
• 30:07
come on up and spend your money, Milwaukee, Chicago- [laughs] Right... Minneapolis." Yeah. You know?
• 30:11
Um- I can't imagine being, like, a resort owner or a bar or, you know, anything that is only really there for, you know, seasonally in the summer for a few months, and then if they got a winter, which they sometimes don't get, you know, they could have the snowmobile- Right...
• 30:27
and the, and the other things to bring in, in income. But gotta be a tough, tough fall, so- I, I- I mean, both poi-- yeah, both points are valid. You know? I mean, I don't, I don't, you know, think...
• 30:40
I, I, my, my, I, I still obviously, like, wore my mask everywhere I went and stuff like that. And I, you know, I mean, my hope is that, you know, the only thing some guy from Milwaukee leaves behind is some money. Right.
• 30:54
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, my mask wearing is, is, is m- it's more, uh, out of respect to other people than for myself really.
• 31:02
It's just, like, I feel like if I wear a mask, I'm respecting other people's space, and if I stay away from 'em, I'm respecting their space more and- Right... that's all good. Right.
• 31:12
I'm, I'm honestly not very concerned about catching, you know, the COVID-19 in northern Wisconsin, but the last thing I'd wanna do is, like, have traveled up there- And then do this...
• 31:25
and then somehow [laughs] they, they actually do contact tracing and figure out, "Hey, it all leads back to this Polish guy who showed up-" [laughs] "... with a bike full of gear."
• 31:37
[laughs] Well, I c- I, I know you're safe, so hopefully- So... hopefully that won't happen. All right, Dave. Yeah. I don't think so. Well, thanks for calling in. All right. Thanks, guys.
• 31:47
And, uh, I look forward to the, to the route being completed, and, um, we will talk to you soon. Okay. All right. All right. Adios. Bye. See you later. Bye. Never let another man rub your rhubarb. Rub your rhubarb.
• 32:02
[laughs] Uh, some of the leaves on my rhubarb are bigger than, like, the size of a, a big garbage can lid. They're huge. Oh, shit. Yeah. You could use them as, like, an umbrella, uh, in the monsoon today. Yeah.
• 32:13
Gr- in the house I was, I grew up in, we had a huge patch. So one of the things- And now, and now I can't find it [growls] anywhere, until now.
• 32:22
One of the things I do in the rhubarb patch in the fall is after Halloween, that's where all the pumpkins go to die and decompose. Yeah. Ah, yes.
• 32:30
I don't know if it helps the rhubarb out at all, but that's- Seems, seems to be hurting them... it's a pumpkin graveyard back there. Yeah. Yeah, some of those stalks are... I bet they're big.
• 32:38
Uh, you know, I'm not sure what... I'm not a rhubarb aficionado, but- Me neither. Oh. JK can have a whack at this stuff. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. And you might need a hatchet to get some of them out of there. Ah. Come by.
• 32:51
Well, our, ours. Where's, where's- I'll whack 'em... where's Mike? He's- With his, with his cool- He's-... with his cool machetes...
• 32:56
he's lying underneath one of the rhubarb leaves, taking a siesta in a hammock, 'cause they're so big. [laughs] No, doing the urban jungle cross, uh, course building. Oh, right. On Mike- With Mike. Oh, yeah...
• 33:12
he would always bring out those ridiculously awesome machetes. Yeah, yeah. He got some- He's like, "Oh, we got this one in Thailand." And it was awesome.
• 33:20
We did do some- It was like a damn cleaver, but it worked so much better... so we did some recon for a urban jungle cross course, whenever that's possible again,
• 33:31
and a good chunk of the last one that we had under the freeway near downtown Milwaukee is now being, uh, built upon. Something's happening down there.
• 33:43
And some of the cool spots we found for the next one are now surveyed off, and they're doing some kind of... I don't know if it's for their storm water mediation or what they're doing down there, but. Huh.
• 33:53
Yeah, I know, I know that there was, like, they had kind of a pr- you know, a proposal area or something. Oh, now there's actually work happening. [laughs] You know, like, uh, like, uh, like a little, like...
• 34:04
I don't know. I saw, like, a skate park and some... I mean, not a skate park, but like a little, say, skate zone type. K- kinda like Esterbrook has that one little setback, little cool little area. I don't know.
• 34:18
Tony's, Tony's the noisy guy today. Tony's... [growls] Sorry. It's all right. I got you- And another day, and another... I got you turned off, man. No worry. [laughs] This is the coolest headset. It looks ridiculous.
• 34:29
Is it a Jabra, Jabra, Bra? It is. Are these- It's, it's high def audio, and it's actually sounds fantastic. And here's the cool part. It has five hours of talk time, but when you drop it into the toilet.
• 34:41
You're, you're, you're talking to the air, man. Nobody can hear you. You're talking to the air. You're talking to the air, bro. Are these earrings? No, those are your rotors from your wheels. Oh, that's what I thought.
• 34:48
Yeah, you're supposed to take them with you. Yes. I didn't, I didn't return them when I dropped off the other wheels. Okay. Fair enough. Fair enough. So JK decided to, uh, graciously donate his fat bike wheels to, uh,
• 35:01
his lady Kim's bike over the summer, and saved four and a half pounds of weight off [laughs] of the bike, I think. Something- Nine. What? It was f- uh, four and a half on each side. Oh my gosh.
• 35:12
So it was, like, close to 10 pounds. They're much, they're much lighter than what was on there. Yeah. So. Yeah. Uh. There was something about that rims is. Yeah, the, this is...
• 35:19
Well, it's an old s- it's an old State fat bike- Yeah... from the olden times. Yeah. A back wave six, seven years ago now. Yes. It- But it never got, it never got love in the wheel section, and it really kinda needed it.
• 35:31
[laughs] Oh, yes. For sure. And then just, you know, I was just like, "You know, this could work. It could." I don't know. You're just gonna ride yours as a 29er plus then? Yes. Oh. Oh, wait. Tony's back. Say that again.
• 35:42
So you're just gonna ride yours as a 29er plus then? Well, for now. Yeah. Yeah. Right. This is kind of like a sum- This is not-... summer experiment...
• 35:48
yeah, this is not a permanent- Oh, and then in the fall you can get yourself an upgrade of wheels. Or, no, her. Yeah. She, my- [laughs] JK's got good wheels. Oh. Those are some good wheels there.
• 35:55
[laughs] You don't wanna upgrade those. This is just- They're, they're-... this is just helping out... there's no upgrade path for him, really. Neither mine. Well, there is. Oh, of course. Except it's called carbon.
• 36:04
[laughs] Yeah. Wait a minute. Well, then the next step- Nope. Carbon fiber... next step is gonna be, uh, electric assist. Yeah. Yeah. You know. You're, you're gonna, you're gonna have to drink this Kool-Aid- I would-...
• 36:14
somehow, some way... I don't know. Here's the thing. Do you wanna spend your thousand bucks on carbon rims, or do you wanna spend it on an electric assist system?
• 36:21
[laughs] Because I would submit that the electric system will give you more, more speed for your dollar than the carbon rims will. [laughs] It's got an entertainment factor that's kinda hard to beat. Understood.
• 36:31
That's it. Understood. I know. I just know how I ride. You giggle when you're on a fat bike, you giggle when you're on an electric bike- On an electric bike...
• 36:37
and then you double giggle when you're on an electric fat bike. An electric fat bike. Yep. I don't know. It's gonna be a hard sell to some of you purists- One of these years... out there, but. One of these years.
• 36:45
Just wait till you're an old man, and, uh- Man, I gotta wait till then... we'll see what you think, you dang old youngin', you.
• 36:51
[laughs] Well, by cracky, we did it again somehow, and hopefully nobody yells at us this week on the, on the call-in line, 717-272-453 if you really feel like you gotta yell at us for something. It spells bike.
• 37:04
I'm not really worried about it. It spells bike. But thanks for calling, caller. Express your opinions. Thank you. Yeah, do that. Yeah. Yeah, do that. Fucking A. Yeah. Come on. All over the place. All right. Bye now.
• 37:16
  Adios.
• 37:18
  [upbeat music]
