- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good early morning.
- 0:30Maybe you can hear the frogs off in the background.
- 0:32I'm not sure if you can. They're starting to come out.
- 0:35Not as, not as many as I would have hoped so far.
- 0:37But they're here. So today we're talking about
- 0:40maintenance. That's the neighbor's rooster
- 0:43because I'm on a different part of the.
- 0:44Property. And you can hear the neighbor's
- 0:46rooster off in the back and he does sound different than ours.
- 0:50But it's pitch dark here. So today we're talking about.
- 0:53Maintenance and maintenance is such an important thing in our
- 0:57life. And when you think of the word
- 0:58maintenance, most of the time you hear it and you say, oh,
- 1:02I've got to have my truck needs maintenance, my car needs
- 1:05maintenance, my water heater needs maintenance, my air
- 1:09conditioning unit needs maintenance.
- 1:10We can go through a list of items, you know, physical items
- 1:15in our world that need maintenance because we're used
- 1:18to that now. In my mind, maintenance comes
- 1:23across everything because in order to keep things at their
- 1:27peak performance, you need to maintain them so they can stay
- 1:31at that level. And that includes most things
- 1:34around us. Like I need to maintain the
- 1:36gardens. I need to go out and pull the
- 1:37weeds. If I don't pull the weeds, we
- 1:39have a major problem. If they take over, if I don't
- 1:44maintain the the dirt Rd. coming in, if we don't take care of
- 1:48that, we end up with potholes in it.
- 1:51And what's, I mean, everything you think about it and you stop
- 1:55and really pause. How many people get their nails
- 1:58done? I'm not one of them.
- 1:59OK, Full disclosure, I think you all know that already.
- 2:02But they go and they have to have their nails done.
- 2:05You know, often every two weeks they have to go get a fill.
- 2:08Pedicures, you have to shave. Men, women, who however you
- 2:13identify, you're shaving. If you're a human, probably
- 2:15you're shaving. This is a super important thing
- 2:19to think about because where in there do we say I need to
- 2:23maintain my emotional balance? Where do I say I need to
- 2:27maintain my state of mind, my mindset, my I need to maintain
- 2:32my peace, right? We don't use those words
- 2:35typically strung together and it's a problem because if you
- 2:40don't maintain this ideal, you can't keep it easier to keep it
- 2:46under control. So in other words, if I, if I
- 2:49wait too long, like I'll give you a great example.
- 2:52So last year talk house maintenance.
- 2:56We always have to have power washing done on the houses
- 2:59because if we don't, we end up getting the the pollen sticks to
- 3:03everything. We end up with a Sheen of a
- 3:05color of the pollen and then it turns into this slightly green
- 3:10mold and it's really weird and it's just a heat related,
- 3:14moisture related thing. So we have to maintain and do
- 3:19power washing of the houses. So last year we had the pollen
- 3:23and the season was very stretched out.
- 3:26We had two waves of it and by the time we got around to
- 3:30getting somebody that was able to come, it was so late.
- 3:33My husband was like, I'm just going to power wash myself and
- 3:36he did a a job on this. Now he did the job that he
- 3:41wanted to do on this, but it's not like when you hire somebody
- 3:43and they come and they do every nook and cranny and they're
- 3:45doing this like high, high level job.
- 3:47We have a smaller power washer. He did the best he could with
- 3:50what he had and it and no one else would have noticed.
- 3:53But I noticed because this is how my brain works.
- 3:56So this year, even before the pollen came, I'm looking and I'm
- 4:01like, OK, there are so many spots here that really need it
- 4:05and the ceilings outside of the on the porches need it up really
- 4:09badly. And that's a hard thing to do on
- 4:11your own. So the maintenance was done, but
- 4:15it wasn't done thoroughly. And that compounded the problem.
- 4:19And it's the exact same thing that happens in our brain when
- 4:23we don't maintain our state of clear thinking of our chosen
- 4:29curated thinking, pulling in what we're looking for instead
- 4:33of reacting to what's happening around us, which is very easy
- 4:36right now, to react to everything that's around us as
- 4:39opposed to pulling in what you want.
- 4:42We have a harder time maintaining it.
- 4:44It's harder to get back from it. And that's the part that always
- 4:48befuddles me, because if we're willing to shower and brush our
- 4:52teeth and get our hair cut and do all this, there should be no
- 4:55reason why we don't want to maintain our thoughts.
- 4:59We don't want to maintain our mental health and our emotional
- 5:03health and our emotional intelligence, all of that.
- 5:06And it's not a hard process to do because you can do it in 5
- 5:09minutes a day. You can do it in 2 minutes a
- 5:12day. You can do it by reading and
- 5:14taking in something, using recordings.
- 5:18Record yourself when you're in a great state and then listen back
- 5:20to it. Take a voice memo to yourself
- 5:23and give yourself a pep talk and listen to it every day.
- 5:25Jumping on here every day is a way to do it.
- 5:28But there's and there's a million other things that you
- 5:30could do but do it. Find something that works for
- 5:33you to take the edge off the maintenance and make it easier,
- 5:38because I promise you, the hard part is digging your way out.
- 5:42Just like it's harder when you have to lose a bunch of weight
- 5:45and you're trying to lose 50 lbs instead of losing 5 lbs.
- 5:49If we caught it at the 5 LB mark, we wouldn't have a
- 5:52problem. If we can't have to wait all the
- 5:54way till it gets to 50, it's a lot harder.
- 5:57All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 6:00will see you tomorrow. Bye.
