- 0:44SPEAKER_06: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:48SPEAKER_06: Tristan, Thanksgiving happened and nothing else.
- 0:53SPEAKER_05: I'm thankful for skipping that next day after Thanksgiving.
- 0:57SPEAKER_05: It does not exist.
- 0:58SPEAKER_06: Didn't happen.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: It was just a regular Friday in my household.
- 1:03SPEAKER_05: And um we uh yeah, it was just good.
- 1:05SPEAKER_05: Had some leftover turkey.
- 1:06SPEAKER_05: How about you, sir?
- 1:08SPEAKER_06: The the leftovers were extremely good this year.
- 1:12SPEAKER_06: We had we had two turkeys and ham.
- 1:15SPEAKER_06: Sometimes it's only two turkeys, sometimes it's one turkey and a ham.
- 1:19SPEAKER_06: Sometimes it's no ham at all.
- 1:21SPEAKER_06: But we had all three this year, and so it was fantastic.
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: I know the Rodriguez household likes to deep fry their turkeys, no?
- 1:28SPEAKER_06: We go one oven baked and we go one deep fried.
- 1:30SPEAKER_05: All right, excellent.
- 1:31SPEAKER_05: And do we still have that like jalapeno gravy all roll with?
- 1:34SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, the jalapeno butter injection and then the seasoning on the outside.
- 1:38SPEAKER_06: It really, it truly is marvelous.
- 1:41SPEAKER_05: That is some serious text mech going on there, man.
- 1:44SPEAKER_05: That's that's where the the the white man's Thanksgiving meets meets the folks across the border right there.
- 1:50SPEAKER_06: Well, everybody has to switch up their Thanksgiving at least a little bit.
- 1:53SPEAKER_06: You know, somebody everybody has kind of their own unique twist.
- 1:55SPEAKER_06: What is do y'all have a unique twist?
- 1:57SPEAKER_06: No, no, where we're very boring white.
- 1:59SPEAKER_06: Oh, well, you are very, very white.
- 2:02SPEAKER_05: Indeed.
- 2:02SPEAKER_05: Indeed.
- 2:03SPEAKER_05: Uh no, dude, not a single thing was weird at Thanksgiving.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: Not a thing.
- 2:08SPEAKER_06: Not one thing.
- 2:08SPEAKER_06: You don't have one.
- 2:10SPEAKER_06: Nobody, nobody brings a side dish or something where you're like, okay, that's a little different.
- 2:15SPEAKER_05: Uh my dad made fresh uh cranberry relish.
- 2:19SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 2:19SPEAKER_06: Well, that's a spin on cranberry sauce.
- 2:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:22SPEAKER_06: It's all right.
- 2:22SPEAKER_06: It was good.
- 2:22SPEAKER_05: It was really good.
- 2:23SPEAKER_06: Very nice.
- 2:24SPEAKER_06: I'm a big cranberry sauce defender, though.
- 2:26SPEAKER_06: So okay.
- 2:27SPEAKER_06: See, I'm cool with it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_06: I don't hate cranberry sauce.
- 2:30SPEAKER_06: Uh, I don't I don't put it on a lot of I I get like a little scoop of it.
- 2:33SPEAKER_06: I don't really get much.
- 2:35SPEAKER_06: I I put it on the protein.
- 2:36SPEAKER_05: I think it's really good there.
- 2:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I usually just slather it in gravy and go from.
- 2:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's both.
- 2:41SPEAKER_05: Both.
- 2:42SPEAKER_06: Both.
- 2:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, both.
- 2:44SPEAKER_06: Both, both.
- 2:44SPEAKER_06: Um, nothing else happened except for dinner.
- 2:47SPEAKER_06: Um Steven.
- 2:51SPEAKER_06: Steven.
- 2:51SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 2:52SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 2:53SPEAKER_05: All right.
- 2:53SPEAKER_05: Let's just do it, dude.
- 2:54SPEAKER_05: That's what that's what the people are here to not listen to.
- 2:57SPEAKER_05: So let's just shove it into their ear canals.
- 3:00SPEAKER_06: Welcome in, you siccos that are here for nature, aka Run Raider fans.
- 3:06SPEAKER_06: Depressing podcast.
- 3:07SPEAKER_06: Also, probably some UT fans that are chiming in here.
- 3:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, just you know, get some yeah, get get a little bit.
- 3:13SPEAKER_05: We see y'all.
- 3:13SPEAKER_05: I'd be doing the exact same thing.
- 3:15SPEAKER_06: So a little a little victory lap, you know.
- 3:18SPEAKER_06: It's fair.
- 3:18SPEAKER_06: You deserve it.
- 3:19SPEAKER_06: That was an absolute smackdown.
- 3:21SPEAKER_06: Um, unfortunately, I was at the spread.
- 3:24SPEAKER_06: I was at this game.
- 3:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah, please explain.
- 3:27SPEAKER_06: Explain yourself.
- 3:31SPEAKER_06: So all my teams are losing right now, by the way.
- 3:33SPEAKER_06: The Spurs are on like a 12-game losing streak.
- 3:35SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech just got throttled by their biggest rival.
- 3:38SPEAKER_06: Um, we decided to go months ago, three months ago.
- 3:43SPEAKER_06: My sister is dating a longhorn.
- 3:46SPEAKER_06: I am a Texas Tech Red Raider.
- 3:49SPEAKER_06: I have convinced my family to root for the Texas Tech Red Raiders over the Longhorn.
- 3:54SPEAKER_06: Sick bastard.
- 3:55SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 3:56SPEAKER_06: I've ruined them because we grew up UT fans.
- 3:59SPEAKER_06: Uh like I know it's gross, but it was a dark time in my life.
- 4:03SPEAKER_06: And also, this is a dark time of my life, but we decided to go.
- 4:08SPEAKER_06: We live in San Antonio, so Austin wasn't a far drive for the next day.
- 4:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah, update for the listeners there, and yeah, no, it is a big update.
- 4:16SPEAKER_06: I'm I'm a Texan again, no longer a in Louisiana.
- 4:21SPEAKER_06: Very thrilled about that.
- 4:22SPEAKER_05: Well, it's it's like having running water again.
- 4:26SPEAKER_06: It's wonderful.
- 4:27SPEAKER_06: It's wonderful.
- 4:27SPEAKER_06: I never would have thought the miracle plumbing.
- 4:30SPEAKER_06: I know it's fantastic.
- 4:32SPEAKER_06: You can't buy alcohol in Walmart over here.
- 4:34SPEAKER_06: Um that's the one thing about Louisiana that they they really just say eff it on all alcohol laws.
- 4:41SPEAKER_06: I mean, they're just like, yeah, come on in, whatever time of the day, Sunday, it doesn't matter.
- 4:46SPEAKER_06: Come and get you a bottle of Jack Daniels.
- 4:48SPEAKER_06: I don't really give a shit.
- 4:50SPEAKER_06: But no, so we go up to Austin uh probably around midday on Friday.
- 4:56SPEAKER_06: We go out to several bars.
- 4:58SPEAKER_06: Um, it's a good time, vibes are high.
- 5:01SPEAKER_06: Um then we get to the game, and here's a few words to kind of describe what happened from about 6 30 on.
- 5:10SPEAKER_06: Pitiful, horrible, excruciating, painful, agonizing, catastrophic, deleterious, painful.
- 5:24SPEAKER_06: I had to look up those last two.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: I didn't know what they meant.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: But um you discover the source today, uh no.
- 5:37SPEAKER_06: I well, I did.
- 5:38SPEAKER_06: I looked up those last two.
- 5:39SPEAKER_06: I was like, okay, synonym for painful, please tell me.
- 5:42SPEAKER_06: Um brutal.
- 5:44SPEAKER_06: It was brutal to be in that stadium.
- 5:47SPEAKER_06: Uh I had a guy probably about two rows behind me.
- 5:50SPEAKER_06: We're in the lower bowl, uh, which is another big L for us because we kind of splurge a little bit on these tickets, so uh awful.
- 5:58SPEAKER_06: Um we had a guy about two rows behind me who was doing the SEC chant one play into the game and would not stop.
- 6:05SPEAKER_06: And so I'm there, I'm surrounded by Longhorns, we're getting our ass kicked.
- 6:10SPEAKER_06: Um and it just wasn't a good time.
- 6:12SPEAKER_06: It wasn't fun.
- 6:13SPEAKER_06: We I I probably stayed a little too long.
- 6:15SPEAKER_06: Uh, but I'm just sitting there, I'm kind of stunned.
- 6:19SPEAKER_06: I'm like, okay, I didn't expect to win.
- 6:22SPEAKER_06: I don't think anybody who had any kind of sense expected us to win this game.
- 6:27SPEAKER_06: But it I just expected a fight.
- 6:31SPEAKER_06: You know, last game of the year, last or last game of this rivalry for a long time.
- 6:37SPEAKER_06: You're going into their house, you have a chance to spoil their playoff hopes, which it looks like they might be spoiled anyway.
- 6:42SPEAKER_06: But this is your last game against the Texas Longhorns, and nobody gave a shit on that Texas Tech football team.
- 6:52SPEAKER_06: The staff, the players, you lost 57 to 7.
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: That's a pretty telltale uh that nobody gave a shit about the game itself, what this meant to the fan bases, everything like that.
- 7:07SPEAKER_06: And um we completely shit the bed.
- 7:09SPEAKER_06: And I was uh I'm not usually ashamed.
- 7:12SPEAKER_06: I I'm cool with losing, I'm fine with losing.
- 7:14SPEAKER_06: I'm not fine with losing, but I uh you know I can cope.
- 7:18SPEAKER_06: This was just awful.
- 7:20SPEAKER_06: Like this was just straight up embarrassing.
- 7:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, perfectly put, my friends.
- 7:26SPEAKER_05: Um, I think we were all expecting us to just kind of leave one to remember by, but now we all just want to go quickly forget it.
- 7:32SPEAKER_05: I I think if we lost by a touchdown or two, we could absolutely forgive the way this went.
- 7:37SPEAKER_05: But I think you put it perfectly, dude.
- 7:39SPEAKER_05: Something that kind of pops up in my head is that so many of the players were saying that you know, whenever Joey McGuire came to the program, that the culture of the locker room completely changed.
- 7:49SPEAKER_05: That whenever you went up against the you know bigger boys in say UT and OU, yeah, they actually said that they believe they can beat them.
- 7:57SPEAKER_05: And they showed it last season because they didn't they went and did very much that.
- 8:02SPEAKER_05: So it did they stop believing they could do that now?
- 8:06SPEAKER_05: You know, is that what happens?
- 8:07SPEAKER_05: Did they did they just think that you know what, this is an L, let's just take it and move on?
- 8:12SPEAKER_05: Because that's really what it felt like.
- 8:13SPEAKER_05: It just kind of felt like we rolled out there, died, and then just they scraped us off the pavement and put us back onto the bus in Lubbock, you know.
- 8:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, there's there's times when you're overmatched, and we were overmatched, and we're dealing with injuries, and there's a whole bunch of stuff that you can blame on here.
- 8:29SPEAKER_06: It's in Austin, Texas is a playoff contender.
- 8:32SPEAKER_06: There's a million things we could say, but anytime a conference opponent loses by 50 points to another conference opponent, there's something wrong with the mentality and how you went into that game.
- 8:45SPEAKER_06: Um, there's not anybody on this team that did anything good in this entire game.
- 8:52SPEAKER_05: You know, you know what's really weird about this game is it truly felt like UT wanted it way more.
- 8:58SPEAKER_05: Oh, they wanted to beat us so bad, and we just didn't reciprocate.
- 9:01SPEAKER_05: Whenever it's usually we're so ready to go take them down, you know, punch them in the mouth.
- 9:06SPEAKER_05: You know, they and then it's always a heated game, don't get me wrong, but the veracity is always at least matched, or we're usually the more like let's get this freaking done.
- 9:13SPEAKER_05: But this Friday night, it really felt like only one team wanted to beat the other specific team, and it felt like that was the Longhorns.
- 9:21SPEAKER_06: Honestly, God we were their Super Bowl.
- 9:23SPEAKER_06: I've been saying it for years.
- 9:24SPEAKER_05: I I've always said this, first of all, first and foremost, but seriously, dude, it's the I I you know, we always say that you know, there's some games on the schedule you don't have to get your players up for.
- 9:34SPEAKER_05: Um, what the hell?
- 9:38SPEAKER_05: This is the game, you know.
- 9:40SPEAKER_05: This is the game you don't have to get your players up for.
- 9:43SPEAKER_05: But the players apparently wanted to sleep in way past 7 p.m.
- 9:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it was um you could tell being inside that arena that that crowd was popping.
- 9:54SPEAKER_06: I mean, it was absolutely packed to the brim.
- 9:57SPEAKER_06: They came out, they were loud.
- 9:58SPEAKER_06: Uh, they had they copied our drone show at halftime, they did all sorts of stuff, and the and the fans cared.
- 10:05SPEAKER_06: And so anybody that says they don't care about Texas Tech is doesn't know what they are talking about because they clearly cared and they brought it.
- 10:12SPEAKER_06: I mean, credit to them.
- 10:13SPEAKER_06: They're they're a great team.
- 10:14SPEAKER_06: I think we could all agree.
- 10:16SPEAKER_06: They're a very talented team.
- 10:17SPEAKER_06: Sark has that team rolling.
- 10:19SPEAKER_06: Um, they absolutely deserve the record that they have this year.
- 10:23SPEAKER_06: Um, but Texas Tech just simply didn't give a shit, and that is depressing.
- 10:32SPEAKER_05: I I am I maybe this is just hindsight 2020, but it is just felt like the vibe from this season to last season from the football team has seemed very different.
- 10:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it just I felt like I felt like last season was the the the ride of believers, and this season has just been like, well, can we survive the next week?
- 10:53SPEAKER_05: Disappointers, you know, in a way.
- 10:55SPEAKER_05: It's just it really feels the confidence levels just feel completely off compared to last year, you know.
- 11:02SPEAKER_05: I really felt like we were really pounding our chests, win or lose, I felt like we're pounding our chest, but it feels like a lot of these games we really have our tail up again uh up uh underneath our behind our legs here, and it really sucks to see just because it really felt like a culture was set last year, and I'm not saying the culture's gone, but I feel like the foundation has shown some quite a bit of grumbling right now, and it just sucks to see in year two.
- 11:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, there's definitely a a difference from this from last year to this year.
- 11:36SPEAKER_06: I I don't I don't know what I don't know what the difference is because we had so many players return.
- 11:43SPEAKER_06: We had basically the entire staff except for the wide receiver coach return.
- 11:47SPEAKER_06: Um you had the same locker room, and yet uh everything was much different.
- 11:54SPEAKER_06: And I don't know if that's the fact that you started so slow and you couldn't really regain the momentum back.
- 12:00SPEAKER_06: I don't know if it's that you had to play a lot of freshmen this year.
- 12:03SPEAKER_06: Um, I don't know if it's the the one it's one of the coordinators just completely lost it.
- 12:09SPEAKER_06: Um, not that Kitley was unbelievable last year, but I mean this year was just a shit show from his end.
- 12:18SPEAKER_06: Um and so I don't know how do you move forward?
- 12:23SPEAKER_06: Because this whole program's mantra is what's next.
- 12:26SPEAKER_06: It's their whole deal.
- 12:27SPEAKER_06: Uh the other mantra, 60 minutes of us, needs to be completely bundled up and thrown in the trash, lit on fire, and then throw the trash can away.
- 12:36SPEAKER_05: It's like two minutes on the on on Thursday, on Friday.
- 12:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, everything, every merch item that says 60 minutes of us needs to be burned up and thrown away.
- 12:45SPEAKER_06: Um move on to some different little shtick next year, please.
- 12:50SPEAKER_06: Um, because I do like what's next.
- 12:54SPEAKER_06: These guys need to care about what's coming up, and it doesn't need to be a defeated mentality like we saw against UT.
- 13:00SPEAKER_06: It's hey, let's get through the season and let's make next one better.
- 13:04SPEAKER_06: So I wanted to ask you moving forward, we're obviously we're gonna play a bowl game that doesn't matter it's the independence bowl or it's some other shit bowl that we're somehow gonna make.
- 13:14SPEAKER_06: We it whatever.
- 13:17SPEAKER_06: Do changes need to be made on this coaching staff?
- 13:20SPEAKER_05: Ray, I was gonna ask you the same thing, dude.
- 13:22SPEAKER_05: Um, I'm gonna right now, if you if you put put the gun to my head right now, I say no.
- 13:27SPEAKER_05: Um I know that's probably gonna piss off a lot of people to hear.
- 13:31SPEAKER_05: Um, just just no, not not not not that there's a differing opinion, um, just for the fact that you know a lot of people do want to see change, and they're like it frustrates them knowing that nothing will probably happen.
- 13:42SPEAKER_05: Um because look, we we all know who we're talking about.
- 13:46SPEAKER_05: It's it's Kidley and the offensive staff in general.
- 13:50SPEAKER_05: And I just think that there was some magic last year, uh, and I don't know what happened this year, but I all I'm just hoping to see it as an experience bump in the road.
- 14:04SPEAKER_05: And you give next year shots um with the staff again, but if you don't see improvement next year, I think it's it's time to just go ahead and do the the coordinator mulligan before Joey Maguire's seat gets red hot.
- 14:18SPEAKER_05: Um and that's that's where you go from there.
- 14:20SPEAKER_05: I think that's how I feel, dude.
- 14:22SPEAKER_05: Like I think there's true potential in Kitley.
- 14:24SPEAKER_05: I do.
- 14:25SPEAKER_05: Um he's shown really amazing flashes, and I feel like he does his best when we've seen as an underdog and he feels like he's proving something.
- 14:32SPEAKER_05: Maybe that's what was missing this year.
- 14:34SPEAKER_05: You know, he's got the job, he's got the extension, I'm sure, the raise, whatever he got.
- 14:38SPEAKER_05: He's not in prove it mode anymore.
- 14:40SPEAKER_05: Um, so maybe he needs to go back into prove it mode.
- 14:43SPEAKER_05: I'm sure they're having the conversations behind the closed doors like, hey, dude, this this is it next season if you're staying around.
- 14:49SPEAKER_05: And you better recruit your butt off and you better put some Mac Daddy plays on the board.
- 14:54SPEAKER_05: Otherwise, it's it's time.
- 14:55SPEAKER_05: It's with Texas Tech is too good of an offensive destination to let this keep happening.
- 15:01SPEAKER_05: So that's where I stand, dude.
- 15:03SPEAKER_05: Right now, I say just hold tight, keep the ship together for now, make changes down the road.
- 15:08SPEAKER_05: What about you?
- 15:10SPEAKER_06: I think you have three guys on the hot seat.
- 15:12SPEAKER_06: You don't fire anybody this offseason.
- 15:14SPEAKER_06: You go in with the same staff.
- 15:16SPEAKER_06: Um, but three guys on the hot seat, obviously Zach Gitley, your offensive coordinator, who completely shit the bed this year uh on multiple occasions.
- 15:25SPEAKER_06: I know he dealt with a lot of different quarterbacks, all sorts of stuff, but hey, you gotta make it work, and you didn't.
- 15:31SPEAKER_06: Um offensive line coach Stephen Hambe should be on the hot seat.
- 15:35SPEAKER_06: This offensive line has not improved.
- 15:37SPEAKER_06: I know it's year two, but if we don't see any sort of improvement from this offensive line or any sort of consistency from the offensive line, I think we need to look at a change there uh following next season if it doesn't go as planned.
- 15:48SPEAKER_06: And I know he was only here for a year, but Juice Johnson, the wide receivers was the most underperforming group this season.
- 15:56SPEAKER_06: Uh, it was a complete change.
- 15:57SPEAKER_06: Uh, not a complete change.
- 15:58SPEAKER_06: It's not like they were world beaters last year, but this year, you have talent.
- 16:04SPEAKER_06: Clearly, you had talent, and you didn't get the most out of your players.
- 16:09SPEAKER_06: And it was adamant from that UT game that these wide receivers were not coached well, and it was not a good product that was put out onto the field all season.
- 16:18SPEAKER_06: Um, there was no passing attack.
- 16:20SPEAKER_06: We didn't utilize the middle of the field, guys weren't open.
- 16:23SPEAKER_06: Um, you go on and on.
- 16:26SPEAKER_06: You had a preseason all Big 12 caliber type player in Jaron Bradley, and you didn't get enough out of him.
- 16:31SPEAKER_06: And now I think a lot of that's on him.
- 16:33SPEAKER_06: I think you saw him give up on a lot of stuff this year, but it's your job as the as the positional coach to get these guys ready to play and get these guys put them in good positions to be successful.
- 16:43SPEAKER_06: And you didn't.
- 16:44SPEAKER_06: And it's year one, you know, I I'm fine if I see improvement next year.
- 16:48SPEAKER_06: Maybe you didn't have the right guys in.
- 16:50SPEAKER_06: Uh, that wasn't the case last year from this year, so that's what makes me skeptical.
- 16:54SPEAKER_06: But yeah, those are the three guys that I think um really you really need to see improvement to keep them on and um keep them going with this team and this roster.
- 17:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think that's perfectly good put, dude.
- 17:08SPEAKER_05: And I'm glad that we're on the same page of keeping everybody together.
- 17:11SPEAKER_05: I I feel like generally most people are in this camp.
- 17:14SPEAKER_05: I mean, you get on Twitter and I see a lot of people thinking like replace OC with Holgerson or um Cliff Kingsbury or whatever.
- 17:22SPEAKER_05: Dana! Hey, a lobby sub Dana.
- 17:25SPEAKER_05: Don't get me wrong, but um, I I just I really don't see that happening right now.
- 17:30SPEAKER_05: Um, but you know, as with the coaching staff as a whole, I think it's a good sign that the fans still believe in you when no one's really calling for your job.
- 17:40SPEAKER_05: Like I'm really not seeing a whole lot of Red Raider fans, you know, throw throw bottles through Joe McGuire's peripheral um job right now.
- 17:50SPEAKER_05: Um, so I think that's good news.
- 17:51SPEAKER_05: And I think everyone sees the recruiting that this whole staff is doing, and that gives you good faith on going forward.
- 17:58SPEAKER_05: Um, it just it really freaking sucks to have such a memorable season last year and to come up with this one.
- 18:07SPEAKER_05: It just it obviously makes you start to question whether or not you know this guy is everybody, everything he's cracked up to be.
- 18:14SPEAKER_05: And that's a fair question to ask whenever you know you look at the record and you see opening up, honestly, you just open up and say SCL at Wyoming, and that just that really freaking stings.
- 18:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:24SPEAKER_06: So I don't know if that's a ramble off topic there, but no, I think the last thing with the coaching staff, I I kind of have a philosophical issue with how positional coaches are decided and put into their positions.
- 18:38SPEAKER_06: Um, some of those guys are put in simply because they're a good recruiter and they're not helping that specific position succeed and learn techniques and stuff to um better them as players besides motivation.
- 18:55SPEAKER_06: You know, like I think it's kind of funny because Joey Maguire was one of these guys.
- 19:00SPEAKER_06: He was at Baylor, he was a recruiter, and that's why he was there.
- 19:03SPEAKER_06: He wasn't there, he was a tight ends coach, he was an O-line coach, he was a defense, he was a linebackers coach.
- 19:08SPEAKER_06: I mean, he coached almost every position at that school, but Joey Maguire is not gonna teach a linebacker the right skill sets on what to do.
- 19:17SPEAKER_06: He's there to recruit and also you know happens to be an assistant coach there.
- 19:22SPEAKER_06: I'm wondering if we have a couple guys on the staff that are like that, that are simply for recruiting, and they're not gonna you they're not gonna elevate these positional players to the level that they need to be.
- 19:34SPEAKER_06: Because, yeah, step one is getting the talent in here.
- 19:37SPEAKER_06: And I love the fact that we are recruiting better, and we're getting guys that are big and strong and fast and have a lot of um intangibles, but you still got you still gotta make up good football players when they get here.
- 19:52SPEAKER_06: And you know, it's way too early to tell on some of these guys.
- 19:55SPEAKER_06: I actually think a lot of the freshmen that played were very good.
- 19:58SPEAKER_06: So I I just wanted to throw that out there and be a lot and you know let that kind of uh simmer with the people.
- 20:05SPEAKER_05: So you're saying that, you know, we don't have enough guys that develop, you know, that really to really turn these uh boys into men like on the football field.
- 20:15SPEAKER_05: And it's funny because Texas Tech whole mentality before we uh really ironically lean so hard into a recruiter head coach, which we haven't really tried yet, um, was our whole shtick was find the diamonds in the rough and build them up.
- 20:32SPEAKER_05: Like that was our whole shtick.
- 20:34SPEAKER_05: And now we've done a complete 180 on it, doing let's get try to get the best players we can and let them ride free.
- 20:40SPEAKER_06: Well, well, and I think before you go any further, I think it's a little too early to tell if that's what this coaching staff is doing or is failing at is development.
- 20:50SPEAKER_06: Because, like I said, there are some really good young players that are a part of Joey's guys and not Matt Wells' you know, layovers that have shown that they are good football players and that they can compete in this conference.
- 21:03SPEAKER_06: But uh continue.
- 21:04SPEAKER_06: I didn't mean to interrupt.
- 21:06SPEAKER_05: No, you're good.
- 21:06SPEAKER_05: Uh, but that that is both that is 100% the archetype that we hired in Joey McGuire is we wanted the recruiter.
- 21:12SPEAKER_05: That's who we hired.
- 21:13SPEAKER_05: We hired the recruiter and obviously to see he probably proved himself in the interview to act as a CEO.
- 21:18SPEAKER_05: And I think that's absolutely fine for a head coach.
- 21:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I really don't think you need a developer as a head coach.
- 21:24SPEAKER_05: I think a recruiter is 100% the way to go, and then hire the guys that are good at doing the X's as X's and O's with them.
- 21:31SPEAKER_05: Um, I think a good example of that is the hiring of Tim DeRuder because this defense has been awesome, like for a Texas Tech dude.
- 21:40SPEAKER_05: I love Tim DeRouder, he's the best defensive coordinator I have seen as a fan of Texas Tech.
- 21:45SPEAKER_05: And I don't care what the UT score was.
- 21:48SPEAKER_05: That was obviously a failure on all fronts, but that defense has been magnificent.
- 21:53SPEAKER_05: Um, so uh one I I feel like there's no um your your your your point was good, but I don't Think that applies to the defense quite nearly as much as it does the offense.
- 22:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah, nobody should be calling for any defensive staff's heads this offseason.
- 22:07SPEAKER_06: All those guys have been tremendous at what they do from Zarnel Fitch to DeRuiter to Marcel Yates uh to Bookbinder, all those guys have done a fantastic job on the defensive staff.
- 22:18SPEAKER_06: So this does not apply to that.
- 22:20SPEAKER_06: This is more in uh this was more about the offense, and I think we all know that at this point.
- 22:26SPEAKER_05: It's it's it's funny, it's funny.
- 22:29SPEAKER_05: I know this is a a a dead horse beaten into the ground, but it is so funny to hear Texas Tech fans bitching and moaning about the offense and not and being like the defense is goaded, you know.
- 22:39SPEAKER_06: Like yeah, when we were in school, when we were in school, we were just screaming for one more stop.
- 22:44SPEAKER_06: That's yeah, just one stop.
- 22:46SPEAKER_06: We will score, we will score.
- 22:49SPEAKER_06: It's fine.
- 22:49SPEAKER_06: We have Patrick Mahomes, he's going to throw, he's gonna throw a touchdown.
- 22:53SPEAKER_06: I get it, but we're never gonna stop the other side, it's just never gonna happen.
- 22:58SPEAKER_06: So yeah, it's weird that we're in a 180 right now.
- 23:01SPEAKER_06: Um uh, but but this kind of leads into the next topic, which is do you trust the idea of getting Joey's guys in the program?
- 23:11SPEAKER_06: And that's gonna change the results on the field.
- 23:14SPEAKER_06: Like a lot of people are making the argument we're working with Wells' guys still, you know, even if those guys are Jalen Hutchings and Tony Bradford and uh Dadrian Taylor Demerson and those types, we're still working with Matt Wells' guys.
- 23:26SPEAKER_06: Do you think with the recruiting that is trending very much upwards in the Joey Maguire tenure, that that will change the results naturally as these players develop?
- 23:38SPEAKER_05: Um, I'll tell you my thought on that and what that means.
- 23:42SPEAKER_05: I would say look at the team that just smacked our ass in Austin.
- 23:47SPEAKER_05: Um Austin has had a huge issue with you know reaching their real potential, but their issue hasn't really been the floor.
- 23:59SPEAKER_05: And the reason why is because their players are just too good to have a low floor.
- 24:07SPEAKER_05: So I'm thinking in the very least, Texas Tech floor rises.
- 24:13SPEAKER_05: And then you you can you can you can bet on winning hopefully at least seven games a year going forward, uh, with just just having a floor of seven with with Joey's uh with having the best classes in the Big 12.
- 24:26SPEAKER_05: And then we can sit here and discuss, are we meeting our potential?
- 24:31SPEAKER_05: You know, we after you know it rather than talk about yes, I am satisfied with winning seven or eight games, but are we reaching our potential?
- 24:38SPEAKER_05: And I think that's what the conversation will turn into.
- 24:40SPEAKER_05: That may be a non-answer, but that's kind of the way I see it.
- 24:44SPEAKER_06: No, I think that's a very fair response to that.
- 24:46SPEAKER_06: Um, you're in back-to-back bowl games, you didn't do that a lot the last 15 years.
- 24:51SPEAKER_06: So already the floor is rising.
- 24:53SPEAKER_06: I mean, we're extremely disappointed with this football season and we made a bowl game.
- 24:58SPEAKER_06: Okay, there's been years where we have physically been at school and we win four games or we win five games.
- 25:05SPEAKER_06: We had the best freaking player in the world and we won five games.
- 25:08SPEAKER_06: So yeah, the floor I think has risen.
- 25:12SPEAKER_06: And once I I tend to agree with the folks that say, let's see a little bit more of Joey's guys in the program before we fully judge who he is as a head coach or who this staff really is.
- 25:25SPEAKER_06: And so that's why I'm kind of on to kind of bring it back.
- 25:27SPEAKER_06: This is why I'm kind of on board with just keeping it, just keep the staff together, unless you know, obviously things happen, guys get drawn away.
- 25:35SPEAKER_06: We saw with our wide receivers coach last year.
- 25:37SPEAKER_06: But keep as much of the staff as you can, continuity is good, retain the good young pieces.
- 25:43SPEAKER_06: I'll get into that in a second.
- 25:45SPEAKER_06: And another thing we need to do I think there's a problem with the training staff and injuries.
- 25:55SPEAKER_06: Now I understand football is a violent sport and guys are gonna get hurt.
- 26:01SPEAKER_06: I get it.
- 26:02SPEAKER_06: It happens to every team that Texas Tech is no different from that.
- 26:06SPEAKER_06: But in the quarterback room specifically, I don't know if there needs to be a conditioning change, if there needs to be a way they approach their day-to-day, if there needs to be somebody in that room telling them how to take hits or what, but seven years is insane for your starting quarterback to get hurt.
- 26:31SPEAKER_06: And I don't think it's just a common denominator if we just pick injury rule guys, it's just is what it is.
- 26:37SPEAKER_06: I think a little bit has to do with the offensive line not being very good, but I also think that these guys are taking hits and putting themselves in bad situations to where they are getting hurt, and I think somebody needs to teach them different because it's stupid how many freaking quarterbacks have been hurt at Texas Tech, and we can't find any continuity there.
- 27:00SPEAKER_05: Interesting, uh interesting topic.
- 27:03SPEAKER_05: I didn't expect to talk about um you know athletic training on the podcast, but I don't know.
- 27:09SPEAKER_06: I and and I'm not some expert here on training, I don't know how these guys approach their day-to-day, but there's something wrong when you have two one to two quarterbacks getting hurt every year.
- 27:20SPEAKER_06: There's something wrong.
- 27:21SPEAKER_05: I don't know if so much the injury is the the the conversation to have, but perhaps the recovery.
- 27:28SPEAKER_05: And only I feel like you know you can only have that conversation about recovery for muscle level injuries, you know, like you're really like you have a really bruised up shoulder or something like that.
- 27:39SPEAKER_05: Um, I think it's completely different where we're talking about Alan Bowman and Tyler Shuck and how they just had their body parts obliterated.
- 27:47SPEAKER_05: I think those are truly freak things that happen in football, unfortunately.
- 27:52SPEAKER_05: But I I kind of see I I feel like you're just kind of trying to pin your frustration.
- 27:57SPEAKER_05: Maybe I'm just frustrated.
- 27:58SPEAKER_06: Maybe I'm just frustrated.
- 28:00SPEAKER_05: I I I'm just I'm saying I think you're just trying to pin your frustration of no continuity at the most important uh position on the whole field on an external issue rather than just straight up bad luck.
- 28:12SPEAKER_05: And I think it's probably it might be a little easier to swallow that pill somehow, but dude, I I'm with you, man.
- 28:17SPEAKER_05: I think it's just one of those things that's not quantifiable and it just happens or it just doesn't happen, and it's just a run of run of good or bad luck, honestly.
- 28:25SPEAKER_06: Seven years is nuts.
- 28:27SPEAKER_06: It is nuts, the more and the more years that it goes on, it just gets even crazier and shittier.
- 28:32SPEAKER_06: So I don't know.
- 28:34SPEAKER_06: Um okay.
- 28:37SPEAKER_06: What what does a plan for success look like moving forward for Texas Tech?
- 28:42SPEAKER_06: What needs to happen this offseason and into the next few years to actually put a product that we can heavily enjoy and continue to get better as a program.
- 28:55SPEAKER_06: Uh, I'm gonna start rallying some things off.
- 28:57SPEAKER_06: Feel free to chime in whenever you want.
- 28:59SPEAKER_06: Well, if you take mine, I might take yours.
- 29:02SPEAKER_06: Feel free to chime in.
- 29:03SPEAKER_06: Um you gotta retain your building pieces, obviously.
- 29:08SPEAKER_06: Players-wise.
- 29:09SPEAKER_06: Baron Morton needs to be retained.
- 29:11SPEAKER_06: He needs to come back, he needs to get healthy, he needs to have a shoulder surgery or whatever he needs to do to get back to 100% this offseason.
- 29:20SPEAKER_06: You need Barron Morton back.
- 29:21SPEAKER_05: I'm surprised you're not you don't have like a rebuttal on the spicy takes with Barron because there's been spicy takes, okay?
- 29:26SPEAKER_06: No, I still believe in that kid 100%.
- 29:28SPEAKER_06: Me too.
- 29:29SPEAKER_06: I just think he needs to get healthy.
- 29:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 29:31SPEAKER_05: No, I I think I think the kid's actually absolutely a star, but people I think people are frustrated with the root the the wins and losses, so I get it.
- 29:37SPEAKER_05: And obviously the T game is a horrible one for him to end this regular season on.
- 29:41SPEAKER_06: But my man was hurt the whole season.
- 29:43SPEAKER_06: There's no he has been hurt.
- 29:45SPEAKER_06: Clearly, he is not it's I don't know.
- 29:48SPEAKER_05: I I don't know much about the athletic training, but I think it's the we need to look at the athletic training staff and continue, continue.
- 29:57SPEAKER_06: You need to retain the young defensive pieces.
- 30:00SPEAKER_06: You had a lot of young guys play a lot of snaps this year, and there's gonna be schools calling to get these dudes on their team.
- 30:07SPEAKER_06: Ben Roberts led your team in tackles this year.
- 30:10SPEAKER_06: Uh red shirt freshman, by the way.
- 30:12SPEAKER_06: Wasn't gonna play a lot, and Jacob Rodriguez happened to get hurt in the first game of the year, and he ended up doing very, very good.
- 30:19SPEAKER_06: I was very proud of Ben Roberts this year.
- 30:22SPEAKER_06: Uh, guys like Joseph Adore, Charles Esters, Brendan Jordan, Chapman Lewis, Mikhail Dingle, Jordan Sanford, all those are young freshmen to sophomores that played a lot of snaps for you this year that are some of some are Joey's guys, and you need to retain those pieces to have a successful team going into next season.
- 30:43SPEAKER_06: Um, older defensive guys, Baskerville, Josiah Pierre, Jacob Rodriguez, Lux, Bryce Ramirez.
- 30:51SPEAKER_06: You need those guys to come back because you're you're out of a lot of seniors this year.
- 30:56SPEAKER_06: Hutchings is gone, Bradford's gone, uh, Rabbit's gone, Malik Dunlap's gone.
- 31:02SPEAKER_06: You're losing a lot of experience from this year's team.
- 31:06SPEAKER_06: So you need to retain as much experience as you possibly can on this year's team, despite the disappointment.
- 31:12SPEAKER_06: On offense, it's guys like Dre McCray, Coy Aiken, Mason Tharp.
- 31:17SPEAKER_06: Yes, Sharon Bradley.
- 31:18SPEAKER_06: I'd love it if he came back.
- 31:20SPEAKER_06: I need a mentality change from him at times.
- 31:22SPEAKER_06: I need him to work a little harder, but the dude is six foot six and he's uber talented.
- 31:27SPEAKER_06: I'd like him back.
- 31:28SPEAKER_06: Um, and yeah, I just those those pieces you need to retain.
- 31:34SPEAKER_05: So you're saying shut the freaking door on the transfer portal when it comes to our starters?
- 31:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, slash or yeah, developers.
- 31:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, slash young guys.
- 31:45SPEAKER_06: You don't want the young guys getting out, and you have a Jalen Polk situation where he's killing it over in Washington, a playoff contender right now, and he was here, you had him, you know.
- 31:56SPEAKER_06: We and we've seen this in basketball.
- 31:58SPEAKER_06: Kevin McCullough, Terrence Shannon, hello.
- 32:00SPEAKER_06: Those guys are absolutely fantastic, and they're not on our team right now.
- 32:04SPEAKER_06: You need to retain these players.
- 32:05SPEAKER_06: And I'm not saying these guys are gonna like get to that level, but you need some sort of continuity to keep the culture together.
- 32:12SPEAKER_05: I mean, absolutely, and that's that's truly what will turn into uh turn into W's on the schedule.
- 32:17SPEAKER_05: So it's that those are the guys that will win you the games, especially the Vets.
- 32:20SPEAKER_05: So that's that's absolutely true.
- 32:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think the next step is getting your young offensive line ready to freaking play because those guys this year that we thought were gonna be impact guys were not.
- 32:34SPEAKER_06: I'm not gonna say names, but they weren't.
- 32:36SPEAKER_06: Uh, there was plenty of holes in this offensive line.
- 32:41SPEAKER_06: And the whole thing about Joey is we're gonna build in the trenches, and he's got his first group of players who just went through their true freshman or redshirt freshman year that are gonna have to play because we're losing some of these guys.
- 32:54SPEAKER_06: Specifically Kaden Carr, Nick Fadig, uh Daniel Sill, Seth Martin, Sheridan Wilson, those types that didn't play hardly at all this year, but they're gonna be thrown into the fire next year and have to play some snaps for us.
- 33:08SPEAKER_06: So it's get those guys ready.
- 33:10SPEAKER_06: Can the guys who have been in the program, Ty Bucannon, Jacoby Jackson, can those guys take a step?
- 33:16SPEAKER_06: I know they played a good amount this year.
- 33:18SPEAKER_06: Uh, are Caleb Rogers and Monroe Mills feasible starters?
- 33:22SPEAKER_06: If not, replace them.
- 33:24SPEAKER_06: Do you even have a choice to replace those guys?
- 33:27SPEAKER_06: Um, are they going to take that next step?
- 33:29SPEAKER_06: Because there's times where those guys absolutely stunk this year.
- 33:33SPEAKER_06: So retain as much of the defensive staff as possible and retain as much as these young offensive line pieces because you really you really need help in that area.
- 33:42SPEAKER_05: And you're depending on uh Hambi there.
- 33:44SPEAKER_05: So it's obviously time for Hambi to prove, you know, he you know, buy his paycheck there, earn his paycheck, I should say.
- 33:50SPEAKER_06: Absolutely 100%.
- 33:52SPEAKER_06: So what what else what else you got for keys to success with this?
- 33:57SPEAKER_05: Um honestly, dude, I I think it kind of changed, it kind of stays with the what I've said about the Joey Mc Joe McGuire era from the start is we need to recruit our asses off.
- 34:06SPEAKER_05: I really think that Texas Tech being number one in the Big 12 is obviously something we've literally never seen.
- 34:13SPEAKER_05: And that is gonna be something that I really think that's gonna be a game changer because that gets eyes on Texas Tech and Texas high schools.
- 34:21SPEAKER_05: So if the best players in Texas high schools are gonna want to go to Texas Tech, then they're gonna be like, hey, maybe I should actually consider Texas Tech along with all these powerhouses as well.
- 34:30SPEAKER_05: So that's really gonna get more attention back on Texas Tech.
- 34:32SPEAKER_05: And obviously, the best the teams with the best players win, guys.
- 34:35SPEAKER_05: I know we like to see here and uh have an underdog mentality all the time about, you know, yeah, well, we we can we could put a rock in a sling and take out Goliath.
- 34:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we used to be pretty good at that.
- 34:45SPEAKER_05: But at the end of the day, guys, um, college football is one with the best players.
- 34:49SPEAKER_05: So I really think that um I really think as long as we're all we're we're riding that train, what who we what we hire Joey McGuire to do, I think he's doing his job already.
- 34:59SPEAKER_05: You know, I think he's already doing he's already leading to success there.
- 35:02SPEAKER_05: Additionally, keep fans engaged.
- 35:05SPEAKER_05: I felt like fan engagement was a little off this year.
- 35:08SPEAKER_05: Obviously, I think that's just because things were a little too slow start, started one and three.
- 35:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, honestly, I bet if you if they came out of the gates, you know, maybe you lose to Oregon or whatever, but you come out, you know, three and one.
- 35:20SPEAKER_05: I bet the mentality of the whole season probably looks a little different.
- 35:23SPEAKER_07: Absolutely.
- 35:25SPEAKER_05: Um, and uh, so yeah, you keep the fans engaged.
- 35:28SPEAKER_05: And I think the most important part of doing that, besides you know the fun, chitchy stuff that they do, um, you know, the little goopy stuff they had they do have fun with everybody, is win at home.
- 35:37SPEAKER_05: Win at home.
- 35:37SPEAKER_05: You gotta always win at home because the road losses are acceptable, but the uh winning at home is truly what keeps you employed.
- 35:45SPEAKER_05: I honestly, especially at a school like Texas Tech.
- 35:47SPEAKER_05: So those are my two big uh two big key things there.
- 35:51SPEAKER_05: And third, I know it's an easy cop out, but you know, since we've kind of discovered that you know Joe McGuire truly is a recruiter and CEO, um, and we've already had this conversation, but let's make sure we have the right guys at the coordinator positions because those are gonna be the ones that really push you over.
- 36:05SPEAKER_05: So um whenever it comes to developing your players and winning games.
- 36:07SPEAKER_05: So um, yeah, I think those are my three big things there, man.
- 36:11SPEAKER_05: Play CEO, recruit your ass off, and keep fans engaged.
- 36:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think that's good.
- 36:16SPEAKER_06: Um, let's hope they do it next year.
- 36:18SPEAKER_06: Uh you want to talk, you want to talk about some transfer portal stuff because there's been some news from some Texas Tech players that have decided to enter their name in the portal already, um, before the bowl game, before anything.
- 36:32SPEAKER_06: Um, and you want to just you want to just touch on those real quick?
- 36:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely.
- 36:37SPEAKER_05: I I only have one question with the football.
- 36:39SPEAKER_05: So okay, let's do it.
- 36:40SPEAKER_05: It's really short.
- 36:41SPEAKER_05: So um the regular season's here at the conclusion.
- 36:45SPEAKER_05: What grade would you give the football team this year?
- 36:51SPEAKER_05: D plus?
- 36:53SPEAKER_05: D plus a failing grade.
- 36:54SPEAKER_06: C minus.
- 36:55SPEAKER_05: C minus.
- 36:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, this is an absolute failure of a season.
- 36:59SPEAKER_05: I mean, by all means, uh absolute failure season or a truly disappointing uh season.
- 37:04SPEAKER_05: I think those are two different things.
- 37:06SPEAKER_06: Sure.
- 37:07SPEAKER_06: I bump it up to a C minus.
- 37:10SPEAKER_06: You passed, but wow, was that was that lucky that you got it took until the final where you needed that 77 and you got it.
- 37:20SPEAKER_06: Um, but you crammed for the final.
- 37:22SPEAKER_06: You made a bowl game.
- 37:23SPEAKER_06: We're not far enough into this like whole Texas Tech is back thing for us to not be thrilled that we made a bowl game.
- 37:29SPEAKER_06: Or thrilled is a strong word, happy that satisfied that we got a bowl game.
- 37:35SPEAKER_06: But you know, I mean, by all means, this was disappointing.
- 37:39SPEAKER_06: So, you know, maybe maybe if you talk about an A plus student getting a C minus, that would I that that's what I would compare this season to.
- 37:48SPEAKER_06: This was asked, but it kind of sucked.
- 37:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:53SPEAKER_05: C's get degrees, baby.
- 37:54SPEAKER_05: But um, it was truly a disappointing season.
- 37:58SPEAKER_05: Um, looking back, it's gonna be probably one of the biggest what ifs in recent memory for a whole lot of reasons.
- 38:07SPEAKER_05: And I mean, it's not often you're picked as the dark horse to win the Big 12, and it's not often you get one last shot at your biggest rival, and you blew both completely.
- 38:17SPEAKER_05: Um, didn't even come close in either sense.
- 38:20SPEAKER_05: Um but what I will say is this program actually, like we've said, is moving in the right direction in comparison to the recent years.
- 38:32SPEAKER_05: I know it sucks to say out loud because of just how the season went, but it truly is an improvement on what we've seen for the last 10 years.
- 38:38SPEAKER_05: Um I'm giving us a C because we are in a bowl game.
- 38:43SPEAKER_05: Though the record may be 500, we once again, for the second time in there in a row in a really long time, have a winning record in the Big 12.
- 38:52SPEAKER_05: And I think that's I think that's to be celebrated and to be uh credited.
- 38:56SPEAKER_05: Um, but there's a whole, of course, a whole lot of L's keeping it from being a B or even a C plus.
- 39:00SPEAKER_05: So I'm going C.
- 39:02SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 39:02SPEAKER_06: That's I think that's fair.
- 39:04SPEAKER_06: Um, but yeah, let's uh let's talk about some transfer portal guys.
- 39:08SPEAKER_06: Um indeed.
- 39:10SPEAKER_06: Tyler Shuck.
- 39:11SPEAKER_06: Tyler Shuck entered his name in the portal after senior night.
- 39:15SPEAKER_06: Uh kind of a touching moment for him and his family to get uh celebrated, and um he is going to look to play elsewhere for what is hopeful to be his final season.
- 39:26SPEAKER_06: Um, I mean, I I think he's still gonna have to rely on trying to get a medical red shirt.
- 39:30SPEAKER_06: I'm still not sure on that whole thing, but regardless, Tyler Shuck is gonna try his luck elsewhere.
- 39:36SPEAKER_06: And I don't know about you, but I think this is a fantastic decision from both parties.
- 39:42SPEAKER_05: You know, it's it's funny.
- 39:43SPEAKER_05: I was at the the girls' soccer game.
- 39:45SPEAKER_05: Um the final one we lost to uh UNC on a historic season.
- 39:51SPEAKER_05: Um, he was there, he he pulled up in his crutches.
- 39:54SPEAKER_06: And that was after that was after he announced he was going into the portal.
- 39:57SPEAKER_06: Uh I I don't think he tweeted it yet.
- 39:59SPEAKER_06: Oh, really?
- 40:00SPEAKER_06: I thought he was okay.
- 40:01SPEAKER_06: It was right there.
- 40:02SPEAKER_05: It was in it was within days.
- 40:04SPEAKER_05: And he'll he was with Sarajik Thompson too.
- 40:06SPEAKER_05: So that was kind of cool.
- 40:07SPEAKER_05: Um, but uh yeah, it's I'm totally with you.
- 40:10SPEAKER_05: I think this is perfectly fine for Tyler Shuck, and I think it leaves zero sour taste in the mouths of Red Raider fans because truly, I think we are ready to just go in on Baron Warden and let Tyler Shuck try to do his last ditch effort to get to the NFL.
- 40:26SPEAKER_05: Um, because this poor guy has been through the meat grinder, dude.
- 40:32SPEAKER_05: And it's just I'm ready to see him, you know, have one more shot to not break his body and get across the finish line for a season because the guy's a talented dude, and I was so excited to see him ball out for us.
- 40:45SPEAKER_05: But obviously things wait that went the way they did.
- 40:48SPEAKER_05: But dude, I like I said, I think this is a happy decision on both sides.
- 40:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:53SPEAKER_06: I think everything you said is true.
- 40:54SPEAKER_06: I I have no idea where he's planning on going.
- 40:57SPEAKER_06: I hope it's not in the Big 12, like there are some early rumors about UCF, a couple other teams.
- 41:03SPEAKER_06: I don't like it when these guys still continue to play in the same conference.
- 41:07SPEAKER_06: I'd like him try your luck going.
- 41:09SPEAKER_06: I know the Pac-12's dead.
- 41:11SPEAKER_06: He played there.
- 41:11SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 41:12SPEAKER_06: I don't know where he's supposed to go.
- 41:13SPEAKER_06: If it's G5, it's I think he's gonna get a P5 opportunity.
- 41:17SPEAKER_06: Probably um, but yeah, I I'm I'm glad that he chose this because of what you said about Baron Morton.
- 41:24SPEAKER_06: And a lot of people, not a lot of people, a s a portion of the Texas Tech fan base will not be thrilled with Baron Morton because of the performance this year when he was hurt.
- 41:36SPEAKER_06: But I think he's got it.
- 41:38SPEAKER_06: I think he's the guy for next year.
- 41:40SPEAKER_06: That was always the plan to have Baron Morton be the guy for 2024, and we need to roll with that.
- 41:46SPEAKER_06: And there were probably internal conversations about that.
- 41:49SPEAKER_06: Um, and I think this was a mutual decision by both parties.
- 41:53SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
- 41:54SPEAKER_05: I and I think it's good.
- 41:55SPEAKER_05: This is probably gonna be the first offseason in a long time where it's just been, yeah, it's Barron Morton's job, where there's not even an argument.
- 42:00SPEAKER_05: I mean, and because I really don't see us going after a transfer QB or anything like that.
- 42:04SPEAKER_05: I really think we're just gonna go all in on Baron.
- 42:06SPEAKER_06: We could potentially get like an older quarterback that like is there, you know, maybe like a uh a backup, a longtime backup, just to give us something because clearly we can't keep a quarterback healthy.
- 42:20SPEAKER_06: So you need some sort of insurance.
- 42:22SPEAKER_05: A guy looking for his master's degree for free.
- 42:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 42:25SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 42:26SPEAKER_06: So that's the only thing I could see at the quarterback position.
- 42:29SPEAKER_06: I think we're in on Morton.
- 42:30SPEAKER_06: Um, another guy, uh well, let's talk about the offensive lineman before we talk about Miles Price.
- 42:36SPEAKER_06: Uh, Landon Peterson, Matt Keeler entered their name in the portal officially.
- 42:40SPEAKER_06: Landon Peterson, kind of an in and out starter.
- 42:43SPEAKER_06: Uh, really more of a backup here at Texas Tech.
- 42:46SPEAKER_06: Didn't really get a ton of opportunity unless there was a guy injured.
- 42:49SPEAKER_06: Uh, Matt Keeler, same thing.
- 42:51SPEAKER_06: He didn't really play a ton.
- 42:52SPEAKER_06: Uh, so you know, wish those guys the best of luck.
- 42:55SPEAKER_06: Hopefully, they can find a uh good spot for their last couple years of college football.
- 42:59SPEAKER_06: So three painless transfers, honestly, listed here.
- 43:04SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 43:05SPEAKER_06: Three out of the four so far.
- 43:06SPEAKER_06: We're recording this on what day is today?
- 43:09SPEAKER_06: Tuesday?
- 43:10SPEAKER_06: Tuesday.
- 43:10SPEAKER_06: Tuesday, the 28th.
- 43:11SPEAKER_06: The 28th.
- 43:12SPEAKER_06: So, you know, obviously with portal season coming along, we could see seven more tomorrow.
- 43:17SPEAKER_06: But um, yeah, so those three, you know, it's fine.
- 43:21SPEAKER_06: We're we're okay with them leaving.
- 43:22SPEAKER_06: Uh Miles Price, the wide receiver out of Texas Tech, uh, decided or very much rumored.
- 43:30SPEAKER_06: Uh, I don't think he's officially announced it yet, but um, definitely gonna enter his name in the portal, which was a bit of surprise to me.
- 43:38SPEAKER_06: I don't know about you.
- 43:39SPEAKER_06: For sure.
- 43:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I you know, I I have several thoughts about this because you love a guy like Miles Price on your team.
- 43:48SPEAKER_06: The leadership, the uh positivity that he brings to the locker room.
- 43:53SPEAKER_06: Um and he's a pretty good football player.
- 43:56SPEAKER_06: Like, all things considered, he was you know, he caught five touchdowns this year.
- 43:59SPEAKER_06: He Uh was probably in your top three.
- 44:02SPEAKER_06: I I don't have the final stats in front of me, but he was probably in your top three in receiving yards.
- 44:06SPEAKER_06: Um he's made some big plays for you in his career at Texas Tech, played as a freshman here.
- 44:11SPEAKER_06: Um and he's deciding to move on.
- 44:14SPEAKER_06: And I don't know.
- 44:16SPEAKER_06: There's what are your thoughts?
- 44:20SPEAKER_05: Um it's it's interesting to me because it's it's weird to see a guy with such a leadership role on this football team want to go.
- 44:27SPEAKER_05: Like obviously Tyler Shuck's a different situation and go as a leader.
- 44:30SPEAKER_05: Um, it's this is odd because uh anywhere Texas Tech had a camera, they put it on Miles Price, whenever it was like locker room or just like interviews or anything like that.
- 44:40SPEAKER_05: So to see him want to bounce is so weird to me because it felt like he had some real ownership in Texas Tech.
- 44:47SPEAKER_05: And I think it's odd that he's throwing it away.
- 44:50SPEAKER_05: Um, and I honestly don't know coaching-wise who I what I'd point to.
- 44:55SPEAKER_05: Maybe he's disappointed with the way the schemes are looking at this point, or you know, in the offensive developments, but honestly, maybe he's just trying to get a fresh start for the end.
- 45:07SPEAKER_05: Maybe he's not getting the NFL looks he wants, and um he may realize that TexTech has some serious young talent coming in that he's gonna have to really compete with.
- 45:17SPEAKER_05: Like it won't be just flat out given that he has the same role tomorrow or next next year, I should say.
- 45:23SPEAKER_05: So I think I think it's I think it's sad and weird, but you if you start looking at some reasons, which are obviously pulled out of thin air and not him, there that maybe there is some writing on the wall that that perhaps I could find a better slot elsewhere rather than having to really fight to tooth and nail to keep my position here.
- 45:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:46SPEAKER_06: There that's a good point.
- 45:47SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of young talent coming into Texas Tech at the receiver position.
- 45:51SPEAKER_06: Micah Hudson is coming in next year.
- 45:54SPEAKER_06: Probably immediately starter, little known guy, five-star recruit, um, out of Lake Belton.
- 46:00SPEAKER_06: So yeah, I think this was this wasn't a mutual decision because you want Miles Price to come back to your team.
- 46:08SPEAKER_06: For sure.
- 46:09SPEAKER_06: Like this was his decision to leave.
- 46:11SPEAKER_06: And to be fair to him, after seeing this scheme this year, yeah, I get it.
- 46:18SPEAKER_06: I get why you would try try your luck elsewhere with a couple years of eligibility under your belt.
- 46:22SPEAKER_06: Um, and I wish him best of luck.
- 46:25SPEAKER_06: You know, there's not I I hate I hate the constant we love you, we wish you the best, you're the best after leaving this program.
- 46:33SPEAKER_06: But he's one of those guys where you absolutely mean that.
- 46:37SPEAKER_06: And uh, I'm thankful that Miles Price was a part of this program and that uh I I hope he does great things in the future.
- 46:43SPEAKER_06: I really hope it's for not another Big 12 team.
- 46:47SPEAKER_05: As long as it's not in conference, dang it, or obviously one of and of course if it's U Tier and it's like yeah, that yeah, it's like, dude, don't do that.
- 46:55SPEAKER_05: A little too close to home.
- 46:56SPEAKER_05: All right, but no, I I agree with you there, man, because I'm not really worried about the receiving core.
- 47:02SPEAKER_05: Um, even though it's arguably like you.
- 47:05SPEAKER_06: I'm worried.
- 47:06SPEAKER_06: I'm worried about the receiving core, not because of the talent, exactly because of the coaching, yeah.
- 47:11SPEAKER_05: 100%.
- 47:11SPEAKER_05: That's that's 100% what I what I was getting at is you know, I'm not worried about refilling with talent.
- 47:16SPEAKER_05: Obviously, I'm worried about scoring points, but maybe that's what he's worried about too.
- 47:21SPEAKER_05: So like it said, yeah, so um, yeah, no, absolutely, dude.
- 47:26SPEAKER_05: Uh I hope I hope maybe he he changes his mind.
- 47:28SPEAKER_05: I know that's not often where that happens, but it just it sucks to see a guy who truly always had something to say and was always positive whenever it came to TechSech.
- 47:37SPEAKER_05: So it's a bummer.
- 47:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean it reminded me a lot of Kevin McCullough, Terrence Yannon.
- 47:42SPEAKER_06: Reminded me a lot of those guys.
- 47:43SPEAKER_06: I mean, they spent many years in the program and then eventually they look elsewhere.
- 47:47SPEAKER_06: And uh, you know, it I hope it doesn't end up like Kevin McCullough going to another Big 12 school.
- 47:52SPEAKER_06: But hey, I hope he does hope he does well in his uh wish and best.
- 47:57SPEAKER_06: But anything else football-wise, I think we've gone on our soapbox for quite a bit.
- 48:05SPEAKER_05: You know, it's it's funny we want to talk about it for a while.
- 48:07SPEAKER_05: So uh that's kind of nice, actually.
- 48:09SPEAKER_05: Um, I I'm excited about the bowl game, though.
- 48:12SPEAKER_05: I don't give a crap if it's a if it's crappy bowl.
- 48:14SPEAKER_05: It's it would see it will seriously, you know, add a lot of momentum that was lost going into the offseason.
- 48:19SPEAKER_05: If you just go out there and put on a show and be like, man, look at that bowl.
- 48:24SPEAKER_05: You know, that can really that can really put you back on the right path to the in the offseason and get people excited about football season again.
- 48:30SPEAKER_05: So I hope we do go kick some ass in whatever uh um Dukes, unfortunately, not the Duke's Mayo Bowl, but you know, just whatever products bull independence bowl, or I know that's one of them.
- 48:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, or the armed forces, armed forces poll.
- 48:44SPEAKER_05: Those are the two I've seen.
- 48:45SPEAKER_05: I don't think I've seen anything else.
- 48:46SPEAKER_06: I think it's gonna be one of those two.
- 48:47SPEAKER_06: You're six and six.
- 48:48SPEAKER_06: I mean, it's it's probably one of those two where I've seen we're playing Cal or playing uh Air Force, the troops, playing the troops.
- 48:55SPEAKER_06: That'll be heartbreaking.
- 48:56SPEAKER_06: I don't want to play the troops.
- 48:58SPEAKER_06: The troops are having a hell of a season.
- 48:59SPEAKER_06: I do not want to play the troops.
- 49:01SPEAKER_06: I want to I want it out there, put it in the papers, throw it out there.
- 49:05SPEAKER_06: I want no part of playing any of the troops, whether it be army, air force, or navy.
- 49:10SPEAKER_06: I don't want any part of it.
- 49:12SPEAKER_06: Um let's go beat Cal's ass.
- 49:14SPEAKER_06: How about that?
- 49:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, let's go kick some nerdy hippie ass, all right?
- 49:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, let's let's go, let's go play Cal in the independence bowl and kick some ass.
- 49:22SPEAKER_06: But uh all right, you ready to move on to basketball?
- 49:25SPEAKER_06: Yes, of course.
- 49:26SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 49:27SPEAKER_06: Two and one in the battle for Atlantis tournament, your Texas Tech Red Raiders.
- 49:32SPEAKER_06: Um, five and one on the season.
- 49:34SPEAKER_06: They progressed as the tournament went on.
- 49:37SPEAKER_06: I said at the beginning, I wasn't gonna judge this team until I saw them play Villanova.
- 49:41SPEAKER_06: And unfortunately, Villanova kind of kicked our ass.
- 49:46SPEAKER_06: And I have some thoughts about that.
- 49:48SPEAKER_06: Villanova didn't miss a shot in the second half.
- 49:51SPEAKER_06: I swear no, they're still making every shot to this moment.
- 49:54SPEAKER_06: They just didn't miss it.
- 49:55SPEAKER_06: I hate when they do that.
- 49:57SPEAKER_06: I hate it.
- 49:57SPEAKER_06: I it's sometimes it happens.
- 49:59SPEAKER_06: Guys shoot the shit out of the ball and just make everything.
- 50:02SPEAKER_06: And so that was kind of the case of Villanova.
- 50:04SPEAKER_06: I don't think we played particularly bad against Villanova.
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: We made some stupid mistakes.
- 50:10SPEAKER_06: There were some boneheaded stuff.
- 50:11SPEAKER_06: Devin Cambridge had one, Warren Washington had one where they got some technical fouls off of just some dumb shit that you don't do.
- 50:18SPEAKER_06: And um, oh wait, did I just get a I just got something about Kansas potentially being upset by Eastern Michigan?
- 50:27SPEAKER_05: Well, that's good.
- 50:27SPEAKER_05: That's good interrupting the pod news.
- 50:29SPEAKER_06: Oh man, it's 59-56 with five minutes left.
- 50:33SPEAKER_06: Kansas only up by three.
- 50:35SPEAKER_06: Um consume end please, please.
- 50:41SPEAKER_06: Um, but no, then then you followed it up with a really pretty rough showing against Northern Iowa.
- 50:46SPEAKER_06: You squeaked out a win there, pop I six game winner.
- 50:49SPEAKER_05: A win's a win, baby.
- 50:51SPEAKER_06: A win is a win, and you'd rather learn from wins than losses.
- 50:55SPEAKER_06: 100%.
- 50:56SPEAKER_06: And so I was just I did not, I did not watch.
- 51:00SPEAKER_06: I did not tune in to Northern Iowa.
- 51:02SPEAKER_06: Oh no, I was keeping up with it.
- 51:05SPEAKER_06: I was like, oh my god, we're down by 15 to Northern Iowa.
- 51:09SPEAKER_06: I'm not gonna watch this.
- 51:11SPEAKER_05: I feel like you and I is always scrappy, though, dude.
- 51:14SPEAKER_05: I feel like they are always a pretty tough team.
- 51:16SPEAKER_05: They're I'm not saying that sarcastically.
- 51:19SPEAKER_06: They are UNI is a scrappy team.
- 51:22SPEAKER_06: I think they've upset Iowa State a few times in the past, and they're a veteran team, dude.
- 51:27SPEAKER_06: They are, they are.
- 51:28SPEAKER_06: You credit to you and I, but once I saw the beatdown against Villanova and them not miss a three, and then I'm watching the Spurs continue to lose, and then I'm watching this where we're down by 14 or 10 or whatever to northern Iowa.
- 51:43SPEAKER_06: I was like, I I'm not gonna do this.
- 51:45SPEAKER_06: I can't, I can't, I can't bear it.
- 51:47SPEAKER_06: Basketball is soon to be dead to me.
- 51:49SPEAKER_06: I can't do this.
- 51:50SPEAKER_06: I was looking forward to this so much.
- 51:54SPEAKER_06: And then I looked at my phone and I saw 72 to 70, Texas Tech wins.
- 51:58SPEAKER_06: I was like, thank God.
- 52:00SPEAKER_06: Thank you, Pop.
- 52:01SPEAKER_06: Thank you, Pop.
- 52:02SPEAKER_06: This is what I needed.
- 52:04SPEAKER_06: Um, and then we proceed to kind of beat up on Michigan.
- 52:09SPEAKER_05: We yes, it wasn't it what from watching it, man.
- 52:12SPEAKER_05: It didn't seem close.
- 52:13SPEAKER_05: It really felt like we had the comfortable lead the whole time.
- 52:16SPEAKER_06: 16-point win against the Wolverines and former Texas Tech Red Raider Namari Brunett, who went one and ten on the game.
- 52:23SPEAKER_06: I'm not gonna say anymore.
- 52:28SPEAKER_06: Players that I am happy with.
- 52:31SPEAKER_06: Darien Williams might be my favorite player on the team.
- 52:35SPEAKER_06: Uh, he was he might have been my favorite player on the team after the first game, but I wanted to give it a few more, see what really, you know, digest it a little bit, see what's going on with this team.
- 52:44SPEAKER_06: Darien Williams does so much good for this team on not just on the stat sheet.
- 52:52SPEAKER_06: He's grabbing rebounds like crazy, though, but he's scoring some points.
- 52:56SPEAKER_06: But he does he plays defense, he is so reliable on everything he does.
- 53:02SPEAKER_06: He can dribble, he can pass, he can shoot, he can score, he can just lock down a guy if you need him to.
- 53:07SPEAKER_06: Darien Williams is my favorite player.
- 53:09SPEAKER_05: Well, Steven, you just put Bob Jennings on watch with that take right there.
- 53:14SPEAKER_06: Well, Bob Jennings has been on uh Coach McCasslin's shit list the last several games.
- 53:20SPEAKER_06: So uh shout out to Bob.
- 53:22SPEAKER_06: I hope he gets some minutes here coming up, but uh no, Darien Williams has definitely been my favorite guy to watch.
- 53:30SPEAKER_06: Uh it seems like he's only affecting the game positively, and um, you know, when we're not playing so well, it's usually when he's not on the floor.
- 53:39SPEAKER_05: Wow, a guy excelling in a defensive system that's good at defense.
- 53:46SPEAKER_05: Interesting.
- 53:48SPEAKER_06: Very interesting.
- 53:49SPEAKER_05: Interesting result.
- 53:52SPEAKER_06: I've been pretty happy with the majority of the starting lineup.
- 53:55SPEAKER_06: I know Pop hasn't had a lot of good games to start off the year, he hasn't shot the ball particularly well.
- 53:59SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, Warren's gotten in some foul trouble in some games, but I think he's playing overall pretty well.
- 54:04SPEAKER_06: Devin Cambridge has been reliable, uh, rebounding the ball, scoring the ball.
- 54:09SPEAKER_06: Um, he's probably been your most consistent player all around, uh, besides Darion Williams.
- 54:15SPEAKER_06: And Joe Tucson, if you told me that Joe Tucson was going to be the leading scorer, Dribbling Joe is out here.
- 54:22SPEAKER_06: All right, shooting the heck out of the ball.
- 54:25SPEAKER_06: He's making good decisions.
- 54:27SPEAKER_06: He did not make these decisions when he was at West Virginia.
- 54:30SPEAKER_06: He was very kind of chaotic with the ball.
- 54:33SPEAKER_06: He would turn it turn it over a lot.
- 54:35SPEAKER_06: He's not doing that with this Texas Tech team.
- 54:37SPEAKER_06: And I big fan of Joe Tucson over here.
- 54:41SPEAKER_06: I mean, the guy was a sweetheart than Transfer Portal for a reason.
- 54:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 54:45SPEAKER_06: No doubt.
- 54:45SPEAKER_06: No doubt.
- 54:46SPEAKER_06: And I think I think they're just getting better to go back to it.
- 54:50SPEAKER_05: I agree.
- 54:50SPEAKER_06: It's gonna take them time, it's gonna take them a little bit.
- 54:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they're not fantastic right away.
- 54:54SPEAKER_06: Who would have thought with four different starters and a bunch of different bench guys?
- 54:58SPEAKER_06: Um, it's gonna take a little bit, and I am happy to see progression.
- 55:03SPEAKER_05: And I hope really hope that they enjoyed the their their time in Atlantis and they're there in the Bahamas question about Bahamas.
- 55:11SPEAKER_05: Bahamas Bahamas.
- 55:12SPEAKER_05: Well, you think they had turkey?
- 55:14SPEAKER_06: You think they had turkey on things?
- 55:15SPEAKER_06: Oh, I bet they had I bet they had turkey candy to them for sure.
- 55:18SPEAKER_05: Oh, um, and uh um dude, I I I you'd think I would know it's it was in the Bahamas with how many times I had to watch their freaking commercial.
- 55:27SPEAKER_05: Oh my god, of that girl aging.
- 55:29SPEAKER_05: Oh my lord.
- 55:30SPEAKER_05: I Atlantis, please.
- 55:32SPEAKER_05: I was watching Mercy.
- 55:34SPEAKER_05: I was watching Bad Boy Mowers, but I like seeing those.
- 55:36SPEAKER_06: I yeah, love bad boy mowers uh all over them.
- 55:40SPEAKER_06: Don't get it twisted.
- 55:41SPEAKER_06: Love the mowers.
- 55:45SPEAKER_06: But no, it's the same with the Maui invitational.
- 55:47SPEAKER_06: They I don't know if you tuned into that, but they had a few games going on, and uh they had the same sea lion commercial of just this sea lion right next to one of the announcers.
- 55:57SPEAKER_06: It was like Dave Pash or something, and um again, I'll say they're not utilizing Bill Walden as much as they should for the Maui invitational, it's extremely disappointing.
- 56:06SPEAKER_05: Shout out to all the sea lions that kept panning too during the battle Atlantis, though.
- 56:12SPEAKER_05: Likes defense, they would just show the sea lion sleeping or something.
- 56:16SPEAKER_05: I that's the kind of kind content I like.
- 56:20SPEAKER_05: I I'm in it.
- 56:21SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm so in that.
- 56:22SPEAKER_06: The preseason like pre-conference tournaments are the best in college basketball.
- 56:26SPEAKER_06: We love feast week over here, college basketball.
- 56:30SPEAKER_06: Um, we do have a pretty big test up against us.
- 56:33SPEAKER_06: We are playing Butler next on uh the the Butler butts, the Butler Bulldogs at Hinkle Fieldhouse, which is a tough place to play.
- 56:44SPEAKER_06: That program and tough butler.
- 56:47SPEAKER_06: Uh-oh.
- 56:48SPEAKER_06: Watch out.
- 56:49SPEAKER_06: That's Hinkle.
- 56:50SPEAKER_07: That's Hinkle stuff.
- 56:55SPEAKER_06: It is a big test.
- 56:56SPEAKER_06: Butler's five and two.
- 56:57SPEAKER_06: Their only losses are to Michigan State and Florida Atlantic, which are both ranked.
- 57:01SPEAKER_06: Um, and a tough environment.
- 57:03SPEAKER_06: You're a true first or first true road game.
- 57:08SPEAKER_06: Um we'll see.
- 57:10SPEAKER_06: We'll see how it goes.
- 57:11SPEAKER_06: Butler's pretty good.
- 57:12SPEAKER_06: I know they have a uh pretty talented big guy.
- 57:15SPEAKER_06: We also have a pretty talented big guy.
- 57:17SPEAKER_06: Um I'm ready.
- 57:19SPEAKER_06: I'm ready for a road test.
- 57:20SPEAKER_06: I'm ready to see how this team performs on the road and um just ready to go.
- 57:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, we're gonna be facing off against a team that uh averages about 10 more points than we do.
- 57:31SPEAKER_05: Um, so but hey, they probably haven't played a defense like ours.
- 57:35SPEAKER_05: So that's that's always a good matchup to see.
- 57:37SPEAKER_05: Um, and yeah, dude, it'll probably be a pretty hostile environment.
- 57:40SPEAKER_05: We're going there into the big east, you know, trying to get it done for the Big 12.
- 57:44SPEAKER_05: And uh Grant even said, you know, we're gonna we gotta go in and put one on the scoreboard for the boys out west.
- 57:49SPEAKER_05: So um yeah, I mean, I this could be a fun one to tune into.
- 57:52SPEAKER_06: No doubt.
- 57:54SPEAKER_05: It'll be nice to see us really challenged again.
- 57:56SPEAKER_05: So yeah, you're right.
- 57:57SPEAKER_06: Definitely something to put on the resume for the NCAA tournament.
- 58:00SPEAKER_06: So hopefully we can pull this one out.
- 58:02SPEAKER_06: Um 5:30, 5:30, I believe, on Fox Sports 1 for this game.
