- 0:10Ladies and gentlemen, your host, my dad, Angel Santana.
- 0:47Hello, everyone, and welcome back to Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 0:50This is Angel Santana Jr.
- 0:52Thank you so much for spending a few moments with me today, and welcome back
- 0:56to our series, Slow Down, Finding God,
- 0:59in the World That Never Stops, that 10-part series, devotional journey,
- 1:04helping us discover what it means to live at the pace of Jesus Christ.
- 1:09This is episode four, The Ministry of Simply Showing Up.
- 1:14Oh, that's a good one. Today's episode is about something incredibly simple,
- 1:19yet incredibly powerful. Showing up.
- 1:23Not showing up with all the answers, of course. Not showing up to fix every
- 1:27problem. Just showing up.
- 1:30Sometimes we underestimate how much our presence can mean to someone who's hurting.
- 1:36So today, let's slow down and open God's Word together.
- 1:41Let's begin with a biblical perspective. Our primary scripture comes from Romans chapter 12, verse 15.
- 1:48Rejoice with those who rejoice. Mourn with those who mourn.
- 1:53The Apostle Paul reminds believers that Christian community isn't just about
- 1:58celebrating victories together.
- 2:00It's about walking beside one another through every time of their year in life.
- 2:06Supporting this truth would be Job chapter 2. Let's do 11 through 13. All right, let's do Job.
- 2:16When Job lost everything, his friends came to see him.
- 2:20And the Bible will tell us that they sat with him on the ground for seven days and seven nights.
- 2:27At first, they said nothing.
- 2:29They simply sat with him in his grief.
- 2:32Ironically, their greatest ministry happened before they started talking.
- 2:37Later, when they tried to explain Job's suffering, they got much of it wrong.
- 2:43But in those first silent moments, their presence spoke louder than their words.
- 2:50Jesus demonstrated this beautifully. In John 11, before raising Lazarus from
- 2:55the dead, Jesus met Martha and Mary in their grief.
- 2:59He didn't rush past their pain.
- 3:02He stood with them. He wept with them.
- 3:05The shortest verse in the Bible may also be one of the most powerful.
- 3:10Jesus wept. John chapter 11, verse 35.
- 3:14Before Jesus performed the miracle, he shared in their sorrow.
- 3:19That is the ministry of presence.
- 3:22So what's our main message today? One of the greatest lies we tell ourselves is this.
- 3:28I don't know what to say. So we don't call. We don't visit.
- 3:33We don't send the card. We don't stop by. We stay away because we're afraid
- 3:38of saying the wrong thing.
- 3:40But here's the reality. Most people don't remember exactly what you said during
- 3:45one of the hardest days of their lives.
- 3:48They remember that you were there. They remember the hug, the handshake,
- 3:54the quiet conversation, the hand on their shoulder, the prayer.
- 3:59Sometimes they simply remember seeing your face.
- 4:03In a world that's always rushing to the next thing, showing up has become a rare gift.
- 4:10Jesus never treated people as interruptions.
- 4:15He stopped. He listened. He noticed. And he made people see.
- 4:22Think about that. He made people feel seen. Wow. And that's exactly what we're called to do.
- 4:29You don't have to have all the answers. You don't need the perfect Bible verse.
- 4:33You don't need the perfect speech.
- 4:35Sometimes the most Christ-like thing you can do is sit beside someone and remind
- 4:41them they don't have to walk alone.
- 4:44Here's your heart check. Let's pause together.
- 4:48Is there someone you've been meaning to check in on? someone who's grieving,
- 4:53recovering, feeling lonely, or simply going through a difficult time in their life?
- 5:00Have you avoided reaching out because you didn't know what to say?
- 5:04Maybe God isn't asking you to have the perfect words. Maybe he's simply asking you to show up.
- 5:11So here's your faith challenge.
- 5:14Reach out to the one person that you've been thinking about.
- 5:17Call them, visit with them. Send them a handwritten card.
- 5:22Invite them to coffee. Pray with them. Or simply tell them.
- 5:27Or you can simply tell them, you know what? I was thinking about you today and
- 5:33I wanted you to know you're not alone.
- 5:35Don't worry about saying everything perfectly. Just be present.
- 5:40Sometimes your presence becomes God's encouragement.
- 5:44You know, recently I took it upon myself to write to every member in our congregation with a letter.
- 5:50Every letter was different. Every letter was unique. And every letter came from
- 5:54the heart. I made it short and sweet.
- 5:57And you wouldn't believe how many people came to church that haven't been to
- 6:01church in a while. You wouldn't believe how many people had to come to say thank
- 6:05you because I needed that letter.
- 6:07Think about that. Here's today's takeaway.
- 6:10Sometimes your presence become God's encouragement. People may forget your words,
- 6:16but they'll remember, they'll actually, they'll rarely forget that you showed up.
- 6:22Think about that. They forget your words, but they'll rarely forget that you showed up.
- 6:28The ministry of Jesus wasn't built only through sermons.
- 6:32It was built through relationships, meal after meal after meal,
- 6:37Conversations after conversations.
- 6:40Persons after person.
- 6:42He walked with people. He listened to people. He loved people.
- 6:47May we become people who don't just promise to pray, but who are willing to
- 6:53stand beside someone while they pray?
- 6:57Slow down. Notice people. Be present.
- 7:02Because sometimes showing up is exactly what love looks like.
- 7:07Amen. Heavenly Father, thank you for always being present with us.
- 7:11Even in our darkest moments, you never leave us or forsake us.
- 7:15Teach us to reflect that same faithful presence in the lives of others and give
- 7:21us the courage to reach out,
- 7:23the compassion to listen, and
- 7:26the wisdom to know that we don't always need the perfect words. Help us.
- 7:32Help us become more like you.
- 7:36Help us, people who show up with love, grace, and the heart of Christ,
- 7:42and use our presence to remind others that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved by you.
- 7:47We ask this in your precious name. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
- 7:52So that's all I've got for you today.
- 7:54Remember to keep the faith, slow your pace and let God lead the way.
- 8:00Thank you for listening and don't forget that this Sunday I will be at my church preaching.
- 8:06Until next time, never forget to have faith.
