  SPEAKER_02: But to do that, so you can know that you're loved, he has to take away everything that you know is wrong with you.

  SPEAKER_02: Because we have to ask, when I know that God is with me and knows me in Tanzania and sends a man with so much faith to walk for a week, come and speak three words, what I know is I do not deserve that kind of love.

  SPEAKER_02: I can think of no other reason but he loved me.

  SPEAKER_02: The last time I was in this room, my wife and I were here visiting and talking with Norm Wakefield.

  SPEAKER_02: I can tell you're puzzled by that.

  SPEAKER_02: There aren't too many Norm Wakefields.

  SPEAKER_02: But this is another Norm Wakefield.

  SPEAKER_02: I call him Norm One because he's about 12 years older than I am, and he was speaking somewhere over here at Horn Creek in another part of the camp.

  SPEAKER_02: And I was speaking up in this part of the camp, and we found out that we were in the same place, and we had a wonderful visit.

  SPEAKER_02: I know of three Norm Wakefields.

  SPEAKER_02: The other one collects beer cans in Fort Lauderdale.

  SPEAKER_02: We are never confused with each other.

  SPEAKER_02: But this other Norm Wakefield is.

  SPEAKER_02: He and I speak on the same things.

  SPEAKER_02: He is a real doctor.

  SPEAKER_02: I'm not.

  SPEAKER_02: I'm just a plain old teacher, coach, pastor, uh branch.

  SPEAKER_02: And so I'm so privileged to be here with you.

  SPEAKER_02: I am really excited for this reason as I start this message.

  SPEAKER_02: As I was sitting over here tonight, before this started, I said, Lord, it's just on my heart to ask you to show me that you know these fathers and sons.

  SPEAKER_02: And that you know me and you know we are here.

  SPEAKER_02: And the reason I ask that, I think it's because the Holy Spirit put it on my heart.

  SPEAKER_02: But many times in my life, the Lord has shown me that He knows where I am and He loves the people He's put in my path.

  SPEAKER_02: Tonight, you're in my path, and He loves you.
• 3:48
  SPEAKER_02: And here's how I know.

  SPEAKER_02: So what started this was in my first ministry trip.
• 3:55
  SPEAKER_02: Mission trip was to Tanzania many, many years ago, and I was teaching 21 pastors under a mango tree in a little in front of a mud hut about a mile and a half off the main road, dirt paths going up there.

  SPEAKER_02: I've never been there before.
• 4:14
  SPEAKER_02: There are no signs, there's no street names.
• 4:18
  SPEAKER_02: It's just outside of Igoma, Tanzania.
• 4:21
  SPEAKER_02: And as I was speaking to these pastors, it's like we hit a spiritual wall.

  SPEAKER_02: And I could tell they just were not getting it.
• 4:34
  SPEAKER_02: And I asked the Lord, Lord, would you please help us?
• 4:39
  SPEAKER_02: We need help.
• 4:41
  SPEAKER_02: The next day, mid-morning.
• 4:46
  SPEAKER_02: Well, this, I started to say this old man came walking up, but I'm pretty sure he's not as old as I am now.
• 4:53
  SPEAKER_02: But um, he was way older than I was.
• 4:56
  SPEAKER_02: He comes walking up.
• 4:58
  SPEAKER_02: Now, everyone there, of course, is black.

  SPEAKER_02: This guy that walks up is black.

  SPEAKER_02: Me and the two guys that were with me were the only white guys in the village.

  SPEAKER_02: But this guy walks up and he asks, is this where the man of God is speaking?

  SPEAKER_02: No, I don't ever call myself that, hardly ever.

  SPEAKER_02: I don't think I've had too many people call me that.
• 5:26
  SPEAKER_02: But the pastor's response was, because he wasn't sure that I was the one.
• 5:31
  SPEAKER_02: He said, Well, there is a guy here from California speaking to us, and he says, Okay.
• 5:42
  SPEAKER_02: He says, I have a message for this group.
• 5:47
  SPEAKER_02: Now here's the amazing thing.
• 5:50
  SPEAKER_02: This man does not know me, and he had walked for one week from Uganda to find us.

  SPEAKER_02: And God had given him a three-word message.
• 6:10
  SPEAKER_02: And he walks up, stands in front of this group, and he says, I have walked here from Uganda with this message for you.

  SPEAKER_02: Listen to him.
• 6:22
  SPEAKER_02: Three words.
• 6:26
  SPEAKER_02: And then he sat down.
• 6:29
  SPEAKER_02: He ate lunch with us, and turned around, and spent another week walking back to Uganda.

  SPEAKER_02: Why don't you stop and think about that?
• 6:50
  SPEAKER_02: Jesus loved those men under that mango tree, and he knew where they were, and he knew where I was, and this man didn't know any of us, didn't know how he was gonna find us, and he just took off with the Lord saying, I'll be with you.

  SPEAKER_02: I was stunned.

  SPEAKER_02: We were all stunned.

  SPEAKER_02: My takeaway from that has been that was God showing me I know where you are in the world, and I love you, and I love these men.

  SPEAKER_02: From that point forward, those men heard the word of the Lord.

  SPEAKER_02: So tonight I asked kind of that same prayer: Lord, would you just show me so I can speak to these men that you know every single one of them, and they are here because you put them in my path, because you love them.

  SPEAKER_02: And there are three things that happened that were amazing to me.

  SPEAKER_02: And you'll see and understand after I finish my message.

  SPEAKER_02: The first one is their leadoff song was God is with us.

  SPEAKER_02: You'll see why that's important in a moment.

  SPEAKER_02: The second was, these are the days of Elijah.
• 8:33
  SPEAKER_02: My ministry is called the Spirit of Elijah, the turning of the hearts of fathers to their sons, and the hearts of sons to their fathers and to God.

  SPEAKER_02: And the third was Kevin getting up here and talking about the turning of the hearts of fathers and sons.

  SPEAKER_02: It was as if the Spirit of God said, Norm, I know where you are.

  SPEAKER_02: I love these men and their sons.

  SPEAKER_02: I've given you what I want to speak to.

  SPEAKER_02: God has a word for you tonight.

  SPEAKER_02: I, if I give a title to this one, it's Experience God's Love.

  SPEAKER_02: And I'm going to give an intro, and then we're going, hopefully, God is going to do this.

  SPEAKER_02: Um I'm excited about the seeds that I'm going to plant in your soils.

  SPEAKER_02: I'm I mean your souls.

  SPEAKER_02: Um Piper's podcast, Ask Pastor John, didn't you guys listen to that podcast?

  SPEAKER_02: Yesterday was an I thought really interesting.

  SPEAKER_02: It uh it was the two great questions facing or in the universe.

  SPEAKER_02: That's quite a title.
• 11:24
  SPEAKER_02: And um I was reminded why what I'm about to share with you, it was it was almost this week, God was already ahead of me saying, I've given you this message.

  SPEAKER_02: I want you to know this is the one I want you to share.
• 11:37
  SPEAKER_02: I was reminded why you're about what you're about to hear is so important.
• 11:45
  SPEAKER_02: He explained why Christians are aliens and strangers in this world.
• 11:51
  SPEAKER_02: And it's because we have a God-implanted passion to know two great questions of the universe, and we know that God's word speaks to them.

  SPEAKER_02: Those two questions are the salvation of the soul of man and the glory of the name of God.

  SPEAKER_02: He called those the two great questions.
• 12:22
  SPEAKER_02: He turned them into questions.
• 12:24
  SPEAKER_02: The first one, he turned it this, he questioned it this way: How is the soul of a man saved so that it's not destroyed by sin?

  SPEAKER_02: Great question for the universe.
• 12:43
  SPEAKER_02: And the second one, when he talks about the glory of the name of God, he asks it this way How do you glorify God so that he is not belittled by your life?

  SPEAKER_02: Now, the reason those two questions are so important is because he's our creator.

  SPEAKER_02: And we are sinners.
• 13:07
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, I know what the other thing, there was another one, Kevin.
• 13:11
  SPEAKER_02: When you start talking about, we're hoping and praying for conversions tonight, just hold that one as we go through this.

  SPEAKER_02: So these two great questions are related to what I want to share with you tonight.

  SPEAKER_02: I've been blessed.

  SPEAKER_02: I have a spiritual mentor who has been a father and a dear friend to me for ever since I was 29.

  SPEAKER_02: He has invested in my life.
• 13:38
  SPEAKER_02: He has planted seeds in me throughout all the years, and I want to share one with you tonight, or this weekend actually.

  SPEAKER_02: It's two parts.
• 13:49
  SPEAKER_02: But he would say to me, Norm, God can't really use you, or you won't really be used of God until two things are settled in you.

  SPEAKER_02: Again, it's like two questions.

  SPEAKER_02: These two things have to be settled in a man for God to be glorified in him.

  SPEAKER_02: And here's those two things.

  SPEAKER_02: The first one is this that God loves me.

  SPEAKER_02: That seems so simple, doesn't it?

  SPEAKER_02: It's profound.
• 14:24
  SPEAKER_02: You'll see here in a moment.
• 14:27
  SPEAKER_02: It has to be settled because if you're not settled in that, well, we'll talk more about that in a moment.

  SPEAKER_02: The second one is this, that I love God.
• 14:40
  SPEAKER_02: And let me show you how those two relate.
• 14:42
  SPEAKER_02: They relate to those two great questions of the universe.
• 14:46
  SPEAKER_02: Because the salvation of a human soul, the only way it can be saved is if God loves that soul.

  SPEAKER_02: That's the only way.

  SPEAKER_02: That's how God is glorified.
• 16:12
  SPEAKER_02: He's glorified in his son.
• 16:16
  SPEAKER_02: And when a person knows he's loved by God, we love because he first loves us.

  SPEAKER_02: These two things, guys, have to be settled.
• 16:27
  SPEAKER_02: And so the salvation of the soul, to show you how these two relate, the salvation of the soul and the glory of God splits mankind into two subsets.

  SPEAKER_02: And I would venture to say it has split this group into two subsets.
• 16:45
  SPEAKER_02: These two subsets, you see, on those two questions, there are those in this room and in this world who really don't care about those two questions that face the universe.

  SPEAKER_02: That's not their interest.
• 16:58
  SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're they're more interested in, you know, life being happy and fun and comfortable and playing another game or playing sports or making more money.

  SPEAKER_02: You know, it could be a thousand things in this world, goodness.

  SPEAKER_02: They really don't care about those two questions.
• 17:20
  SPEAKER_02: And then there's men in this room and sons in this room that do care about the question.

  SPEAKER_02: They care.
• 17:29
  SPEAKER_02: The only thing is, because they care about those two questions, they're share not at home in this world.

  SPEAKER_02: Because this world doesn't care about them.
• 17:39
  SPEAKER_02: And you start caring about them, it makes you a stranger and an alien.
• 17:44
  SPEAKER_02: Amen.

  SPEAKER_02: Isn't that true?
• 17:46
  SPEAKER_02: Are you feeling a little stranger and a little more alien these days?
• 17:53
  SPEAKER_02: As the darkness gets greater and greater, and it is getting greater, it's gone from where we're going to be just strangers and aliens.

  SPEAKER_02: The attitude of the world toward us is going to be enemies.
• 18:09
  SPEAKER_02: Objects to be censored, they'll consider us toxic, they will eliminate us.

  SPEAKER_02: Because they don't care about those two questions.
• 18:26
  SPEAKER_02: But here's what I've what I've come to.
• 18:29
  SPEAKER_02: If you care about these two questions, it changes everything.
• 18:35
  SPEAKER_02: If in the church we had these two things settled, that God loves me and that I love him, it would change our marriages, it would change our families, it would change our churches, it would change our world.

  SPEAKER_02: The worlds we walk in.
• 18:51
  SPEAKER_02: We would become the light of the world.
• 18:57
  SPEAKER_02: And so tonight what I'm going to do is I'm going to focus on the first of those two great questions.

  SPEAKER_02: And that is, how do we know God loves us?

  SPEAKER_02: I found this out as I've talked about love.
• 19:14
  SPEAKER_02: The moment I say it, almost everybody thinks they already know it.
• 19:20
  SPEAKER_02: Because how long have we heard this word love?
• 19:24
  SPEAKER_02: All of our lives.
• 19:26
  SPEAKER_02: We think, oh, another message on love.
• 19:35
  SPEAKER_02: What we find about knowing that God loves us and knowing that we love Him, knowing the facts is not enough.
• 19:47
  SPEAKER_02: If it were, we wouldn't be having the apostasy we're seeing.
• 19:52
  SPEAKER_02: We have thought if our children accept the facts and know the facts, that God loves them, then they're okay.

  SPEAKER_02: That is being proved it is not true.

  SPEAKER_02: God's love must be experienced.
• 20:10
  SPEAKER_02: You don't become convinced that God loves you until it's experienced.

  SPEAKER_02: And one of the things I realize with my children is I can't make them experience what I've experienced.

  SPEAKER_02: And neither can you.
• 20:25
  SPEAKER_02: You can homeschool them, you can teach them, you can preach to them every day, you can pray for them every day.

  SPEAKER_02: But until God Himself meets them and they experience the love of God and know they're experiencing the love of God, it will not be settled in their hearts that God loves them.

  SPEAKER_02: And when the hard times come, and they will come, and things don't go like they wish or like they will want them to go, that's when they will question.

  SPEAKER_02: And if this isn't settled, they will deconstruct as it's popularly called today, which is just another word for apostasy.

  SPEAKER_02: They will turn and walk away, which is evidence that they did not know that God loved them.

  SPEAKER_02: And they were not convinced that they loved God.
• 21:23
  SPEAKER_02: Just let that sink in.

  SPEAKER_01: Where are you?

  SPEAKER_01: On those two things.

  SPEAKER_02: I w my prayer now has been and is this moment in these next few minutes, the presence of God will be manifested in this room.

  SPEAKER_01: And he will love you.

  SPEAKER_02: How do we know God loves us?
• 22:10
  SPEAKER_02: Is it because the Bible tells us so?
• 22:13
  SPEAKER_02: Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.

  SPEAKER_02: I've known that one since I was a little kid.
• 22:23
  SPEAKER_02: But then it when I came across the verse where God, in his word, it tells us that God loves his enemy, that became a problem.

  SPEAKER_02: Because now I have the Bible telling me he loves his friends and he loves his enemies.

  SPEAKER_02: The question is, how do I know which one I am?
• 22:46
  SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna answer that question.

  SPEAKER_02: Is it because we feel like he loves us?
• 22:57
  SPEAKER_02: No.

  SPEAKER_02: I mean, have you ever been to a funeral where the pastor got up and said, This is such a sad and terrible day?

  SPEAKER_02: This person is in hell today.
• 23:18
  SPEAKER_02: I don't think I've ever heard that.

  SPEAKER_02: It's just almost assumed if they died.
• 23:23
  SPEAKER_02: They went to heaven and we're here to hope that they did.

  SPEAKER_02: When we all know they didn't live at all like they knew God.
• 23:34
  SPEAKER_02: So do feelings make it true?
• 23:37
  SPEAKER_02: No.
• 23:38
  SPEAKER_02: Is it because we're good people?
• 23:41
  SPEAKER_02: No, the Bible's pretty clear on that one, isn't it?

  SPEAKER_02: And then we, it's like I tell my wife, I we're not short of evidence that I'm a sinner.

  SPEAKER_02: And that I'm not a good person.
• 23:54
  SPEAKER_02: The Bible says there's none who does good.
• 23:56
  SPEAKER_02: Jesus says there's only one who is good.
• 23:58
  SPEAKER_02: And of course that's God.

  SPEAKER_02: Here's how you know.

  SPEAKER_02: It's possible to know because of his presence that he is with me and he is in me.

  SPEAKER_02: And now what I'd like to do is take you on a flyover over the Old and New Testament that you would see what it is for God to love someone.

  SPEAKER_02: It's obvious.

  SPEAKER_02: You don't have to guess.

  SPEAKER_02: You will know tonight which group you were in.
• 24:35
  SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's happening right now.

  SPEAKER_02: Some of you are sitting here and you don't care about those questions, and you're just waiting for this thing to be over.

  SPEAKER_02: Others of you, you care.
• 24:46
  SPEAKER_02: And those of you care, I'm going to encourage.

  SPEAKER_02: What I'm praying and hoping for is that those of you who don't care, that the presence of God will come, the presence of God will come and be with you and come into you.

  SPEAKER_02: So you might experience the love of God.

  SPEAKER_02: And it becomes more than fact.

  SPEAKER_02: Now I can't make that happen.
• 25:16
  SPEAKER_02: The only way that happens is if God loves you.

  SPEAKER_02: So how does he convince a boy, a young man, middle-aged man, an old man, that he loves them?

  SPEAKER_02: God speaks and he acts.
• 25:44
  SPEAKER_02: Here was my starting point.

  SPEAKER_02: In Hebrews chapter 1, it says, God, after he spoke long ago to the Father, through the prophets, in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in his Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through Him also He made the world.

  SPEAKER_02: God spoke and He acts, and I want to, I hope you'll be as stunned as I am as we look at these verses.

  SPEAKER_02: But before we look at them, let's take 30 seconds and pray together.

  SPEAKER_02: Now here's what I'd like to invite you to do.

  SPEAKER_02: I would like for you to pray for you.
• 26:22
  SPEAKER_02: Would you be willing to pray?
• 26:25
  SPEAKER_02: And we'll all pray at the same time.

  SPEAKER_02: Would you be willing to ask God for help?

  SPEAKER_02: Would you be willing to ask Him to do whatever He wants to do in your life tonight?

  SPEAKER_02: Would you be willing to ask that question over the Lord?

  SPEAKER_02: If you are, I mean anything?

  SPEAKER_02: We're just gonna take 30 seconds.

  SPEAKER_02: Prepare your heart before the Lord for what you're about to read and see and hear.

  SPEAKER_01: Jesus lives.

  SPEAKER_02: And wherever he lives, he lives.

  SPEAKER_01: Thirty seconds.

  SPEAKER_01: For the glory of your name I pray.

  SPEAKER_02: Here's what makes men aliens in the world.

  SPEAKER_02: Are you ready?

  SPEAKER_02: Here it comes.

  SPEAKER_02: Let's start with Abraham.
• 30:30
  SPEAKER_02: Now the Lord said to Abram, Go forth from your country and from your relatives and from your father's house to the land which I will show you, and I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great.

  SPEAKER_02: Now the words that he spoke, these are words that he spoke, but there are specific words that he speaks to us, and that he spoke to Abram.

  SPEAKER_02: And basically what he was saying to Abram was My presence will go with you.

  SPEAKER_02: I will be with you, and you'll be able to see it.
• 31:08
  SPEAKER_02: He first speaks it, and then he does it.
• 31:12
  SPEAKER_02: So it's not just believing a fact, you know, just believing some truth.

  SPEAKER_02: It's believing by faith, these words, and then you obey, and then you experience it.

  SPEAKER_02: Did you follow that one?
• 31:29
  SPEAKER_02: You hear the words, you obey, and then you experience.
• 31:37
  SPEAKER_02: So when does Abraham experience the I wills that God says?
• 31:45
  SPEAKER_02: He had to obey, he had to leave.
• 31:48
  SPEAKER_02: He leaves, and what does he find out?
• 31:50
  SPEAKER_02: God leads him, God is with him, and does everything he said he would do.
• 31:56
  SPEAKER_02: Just to show you, this isn't an isolated event.
• 31:59
  SPEAKER_02: To Isaac, the next father.
• 32:01
  SPEAKER_02: Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you.
• 32:04
  SPEAKER_02: So now he's explicit.
• 32:06
  SPEAKER_02: And bless you, for to you and to your descendants I'll give all these lands.
• 32:09
  SPEAKER_02: So here's the promise.
• 32:10
  SPEAKER_02: He speaks a promise.
• 32:12
  SPEAKER_02: I'll be with you.
• 32:12
  SPEAKER_02: I will do this, so it'll be obvious.

  SPEAKER_02: And I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham.
• 32:19
  SPEAKER_02: The Lord appeared to him the same night and said, I am the God of your father Abraham, do not fear, for I am with you.

  SPEAKER_02: Jacob, next generation.
• 32:33
  SPEAKER_02: Then the Lord said to Jacob, Return to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.

  SPEAKER_02: And he makes him promises, and again, you'll notice with each one of these times when God's presence comes, it's what makes them strangers and aliens.

  SPEAKER_02: Can you see that?
• 32:57
  SPEAKER_02: These guys became, they were not of this world anymore.
