- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So as I start this podcast off today, Sammy is sitting on my
- 0:34lap and she's watching OK, And he's right next to us and she's
- 0:39watching the screen go and there she goes flying off.
- 0:43So anyway, today we're talking about gratitude and growth.
- 0:47Now, this is not the kind of growth that may be the easiest
- 0:51topic to deal with, But when we're growing, sometimes it's
- 0:54very painful. Like do you remember when we
- 0:55were growing as children? And we often, often had growing
- 0:58pains. And I used to say, Oh my gosh, I
- 0:59have growing pains. My legs hurt, my arms hurt, my
- 1:02bones hurt, everything hurts. And we were miserable because we
- 1:04had these growing pains. Well, we have emotional growing
- 1:08pains too. As we learn, as we come to
- 1:11accept things, as we come to have to shift ourselves to
- 1:15change things. And all of this, that's all
- 1:17growth. It's all part of the process.
- 1:19It's all part of things that we have to do.
- 1:21So think about it as if I'm growing, how can I be grateful
- 1:26for the growth, even if it's painful, How can I be grateful
- 1:30for the growth? So when you're getting taller,
- 1:32most of us want to grow taller. So we will say things like, OK,
- 1:37I'm so I'm growing it, it's miserable, but I, I want to be
- 1:40tall. So I have to go through it and
- 1:41we accept it and then we can find gratitude in it.
- 1:44But if you just complain about it all the time, are you
- 1:47actually shutting down the phase of gratitude?
- 1:50And the answer is yes, you are. Because in order to accept
- 1:53gratitude, you can't shut it down energetically.
- 1:56You have to tap into it. And it becomes something that's
- 2:00a learned practice. Again, this is not something
- 2:04that you're just inherently going to have.
- 2:05You're just going to say, OK, what are these situations that I
- 2:08can grow from? So earlier today I had to, I had
- 2:11to call Apple. And everything I have is my
- 2:14iPhone, my iPad, my computers, they're all Apple.
- 2:18And I have Apple Care. And so I had to call because I
- 2:22had a problem and I could not find how to shut something off
- 2:26in the settings. So I call Apple Care and
- 2:28fortunately they're extraordinary.
- 2:30You call them and someone calls you back in like less than a
- 2:33minute. And then they ask you for access
- 2:36so they can see your screen, but they can't like do anything.
- 2:39You still have to do the process.
- 2:41And then they're drawing little red circles and I'm like, wow,
- 2:43this is so cool. And I can see it right on my
- 2:45screen. And he's like, click here, go
- 2:46here. It's kind of buried.
- 2:47You'll find it over here. And I thought to myself, wow, in
- 2:52this difficult situation that I'm dealing with, I'm so
- 2:55irritated. He comes in, he gives me this
- 2:58bit of knowledge. I'm so grateful for it.
- 3:00I'm grateful for Apple Care. I'm grateful that I could solve
- 3:03a portion, a big, huge portion of this problem in a moment's
- 3:07notice. And I can find that spot to
- 3:10pause in the growth. And I said to him, I'm really
- 3:12grateful that Apple Care works this way where you can get on
- 3:16and just teach me about this in no short order.
- 3:18And he said, you know, it's funny because we don't get like
- 3:22people that were actually recognized most of the time that
- 3:25they can call for these kind of things.
- 3:26They mostly call for hardware issues.
- 3:28We're trying to figure stuff out.
- 3:30And I thought, isn't that fascinating because we, there's
- 3:32a whole different aspect of it that you can call for.
- 3:35And it was thrilling to me that I was able to connect those
- 3:38dots. But in the growth of
- 3:39understanding, I have a whole new team member I can think
- 3:42about because once you pay for it for the year, you have access
- 3:45to it. I don't use it enough and I
- 3:48should and I will now. And I think that when you can
- 3:52extrapolate from that what you are thinking about moving into
- 3:55your everyday life with it, it's like look for those little
- 3:58difficult situations and say, OK, what's what is the growth
- 4:03point in this? Where can I grow and where what
- 4:05can I be grateful for in the process?
- 4:08So looking for that one little question, what can I be grateful
- 4:13for in this may be challenging. I'm not going to lie to you,
- 4:16it's often challenging. Is there anything you can be
- 4:18grateful for in it? Maybe not.
- 4:20But I will say a good strategy is to just write it down.
- 4:23If you can't find something in the moment of these difficult
- 4:26situations in the growth situations to be grateful for,
- 4:29write it down. And then every day check back
- 4:31and say, do I have something today I can be grateful for?
- 4:34Do I have something today I can be grateful for with it?
- 4:37And eventually it will show up. And even if it takes you six
- 4:40months, a year, you will find something because it will prove
- 4:44itself out and it always shows up.
- 4:46I, I can't begin to tell you over the years of doing this and
- 4:50coaching how many times it has just shown up.
- 4:52So give yourself that little gift and be very clear about how
- 4:56it works so that you too can find those little gifts in the
- 4:59growth because it feels so good to know it when you find it.
- 5:04It it's like finding a little gem in the sand and nobody else
- 5:07noticed it except you. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:11you have a blessed day. I hope you find something in the
- 5:13growth process that you can really be grateful for.
- 5:16And I will see you all tomorrow. Bye.
