- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome everybody to Patriots Draft Countdown. That's right, is the
- 0:03Speaker 1: live edition. The draft is finally here, guys, the countdown
- 0:05Speaker 1: what is it? Seven hours? Officially here soon, finally, pretty soon,
- 0:10Speaker 1: pretty soon, getting close to my favorite part of the draft,
- 0:12Speaker 1: which is of course Sunday, when you know the picks
- 0:13Speaker 1: and then you can just kind of dive in. But
- 0:15Speaker 1: in the meantime, we've done a ton of work here
- 0:17Speaker 1: over the spring, and I think we're all excited just
- 0:19Speaker 1: to put a cap on the Patriots Draft Countdown, which
- 0:21Speaker 1: is presented by bud Light, Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy,
- 0:23Speaker 1: bud Light, the official beer sponsor of the new Patriots,
- 0:26Speaker 1: And we're gonna be with you guys for the next hour.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Thanks for hanging with us. We're all counting down to
- 0:29Speaker 1: the big draft, and I think we'll be counting down
- 0:31Speaker 1: tonight too. I want to start off. It feels like
- 0:35Speaker 1: all the tea leaves. I don't know, why are we
- 0:37Speaker 1: trading out of the first round.
- 0:38Speaker 2: And I have it does feel that way.
- 0:40Speaker 3: It feels like there's a couple of I could like
- 0:43Speaker 3: rank the possibilities, right, I think number one I would
- 0:46Speaker 3: probably be trade out at this point.
- 0:48Speaker 2: If I had to rank them, I don't.
- 0:51Speaker 3: The one scenario I don't think they trade out is
- 0:53Speaker 3: if one of these tackles falls.
- 0:55Speaker 2: To them at thirty one.
- 0:56Speaker 3: If Iana Shore or Blake Miller slips through the craft
- 1:00Speaker 3: and ends up being on the board at thirty one,
- 1:02Speaker 3: I just find it hard to believe that they would
- 1:04Speaker 3: pass either of those two players up. But I think
- 1:07Speaker 3: what we heard from Elliott Wolf on All Access actually
- 1:10Speaker 3: with Mike Reese his last couple of days, is that
- 1:13Speaker 3: they feel like prospects twenty five through about fifty are
- 1:17Speaker 3: kind of the same talent level. So when you hear
- 1:19Speaker 3: that from Elliot Wolf, like that tells you trade down, right.
- 1:23Speaker 3: I mean, if you feel like the guy you're gonna
- 1:24Speaker 3: get at thirty one is basically the same prospect that
- 1:27Speaker 3: you're gonna get at thirty six or thirty eight or whatever,
- 1:29Speaker 3: then why wouldn't you take the extra draft capital and
- 1:32Speaker 3: trade down. So I would say it's a pretty high
- 1:34Speaker 3: probability right now that they're thinking about it, or at
- 1:37Speaker 3: least trying to entertain the idea of trading down.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Let's talk about those tackles too, because I feel like
- 1:42Speaker 1: if we got to a point this offseason, I feel
- 1:44Speaker 1: like where we were just protect Drake, Like he's a
- 1:47Speaker 1: talented kid. He's going to start to pick up this
- 1:49Speaker 1: offense more and more where he can be the conductor,
- 1:51Speaker 1: he can put guys in position to be successful. And
- 1:55Speaker 1: maybe it's an oversimplification, but I saw something on the
- 1:57Speaker 1: Twitter this week that showed kind of the devaluation of
- 2:00Speaker 1: running backs and the expanding value of the offensive line.
- 2:04Speaker 1: So I mean, it's not related to wide receiver, and
- 2:06Speaker 1: that's you know, a direction we could kind of go
- 2:08Speaker 1: because we spend so much time talking about getting that
- 2:10Speaker 1: number one wide receiver. But doesn't make sense to you
- 2:14Speaker 1: tease that if a tackle is there, even though you
- 2:16Speaker 1: have Morgan Moses and they've expressed confidence in Will Campbell,
- 2:20Speaker 1: that you take this kid even if he might not
- 2:22Speaker 1: step in and.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Start at thirty one.
- 2:24Speaker 1: At thirty one, if it's let's just call it Blake
- 2:26Speaker 1: Miller at right.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Tackle, it's it's not fun Like it sucks to see
- 2:30Speaker 5: you like draft of player that's not going to hit
- 2:32Speaker 5: the ground running, But it makes sense the long term investment.
- 2:35Speaker 5: You got a young quarterback, I wouldn't be surprised. Also,
- 2:38Speaker 5: if you pick at thirty one, you get the fifth
- 2:39Speaker 5: year option, which I think that's easy, Like it means
- 2:42Speaker 5: a lot there.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's Ty Simpson. The wild card is
- 2:45Speaker 1: the fifth you know, as a quarterback, somebody wants to
- 2:47Speaker 1: come up have that fifth year of control on him.
- 2:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I I don't know. I yeah, I
- 2:53Speaker 6: kind of want to talk about the tackles.
- 2:58Speaker 2: So Chris comes in one.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Starts and then he's just like, I want to know.
- 3:06Speaker 2: If he didn't hurt his angle in high school?
- 3:07Speaker 6: You know this every show that we're on, you drafted
- 3:13Speaker 6: this year. I think, yeah, maybe, uh no, I definitely would.
- 3:18Speaker 6: But I think a big thing with the tackle is
- 3:19Speaker 6: you said it's not a pretty pick. I think it
- 3:21Speaker 6: is in a way a pretty pick. Again, maybe not
- 3:24Speaker 6: the flashiest, but I mean I'm not sure is solid pick.
- 3:28Speaker 6: He's super athletic, can help the help the outside, his speed,
- 3:32Speaker 6: his agility is great. Blake Miller just a stout tackle,
- 3:35Speaker 6: like just another brute guy that you need on the
- 3:38Speaker 6: old line. And I find them very appealing like that.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Just kind of here's a question with that thirty first pick,
- 3:44Speaker 5: say it's not a tackle, what if you know, you
- 3:47Speaker 5: nobody really wants to trade up, and you know, the
- 3:49Speaker 5: tackle's not there. What if it's just the best position available,
- 3:52Speaker 5: Like what what if Colton Hood's there and you have
- 3:54Speaker 5: a cornerback you take him, Like, yeah, it doesn't really
- 3:57Speaker 5: feel a need instantly, but you get a pretty damn
- 4:00Speaker 5: good player that you're going to have for I hate
- 4:03Speaker 5: hate it.
- 4:03Speaker 1: No, I do, I kind of do. I mean, look,
- 4:05Speaker 1: I hate it.
- 4:06Speaker 2: No.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Not the obvious pivots to edge rusher, right Like, if
- 4:11Speaker 3: you're not going to go tackle in that spot, you're
- 4:13Speaker 3: not going to go receiver, then you're probably going to
- 4:15Speaker 3: go edge.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And I think the the thing I keep.
- 4:18Speaker 3: On coming back to with all of this is the
- 4:20Speaker 3: drop off at tackle compared to.
- 4:22Speaker 2: The depth of the edge class.
- 4:24Speaker 3: You might be able to get a edge player at
- 4:27Speaker 3: sixty three who's going to be able to come in
- 4:29Speaker 3: and really contribute to this team as a rookie. It
- 4:32Speaker 3: might be like almost getting a guy that would be
- 4:34Speaker 3: a top fifty player in another draft because of how
- 4:37Speaker 3: deep it is there at that spot. So if you
- 4:39Speaker 3: can get a guy at sixty three, a Gay Baccus,
- 4:42Speaker 3: a Derek Moore, a key On Crawford, like one of
- 4:46Speaker 3: these types of players, but then at tackle, if you
- 4:50Speaker 3: pass on one of these tackles and we're acting like
- 4:52Speaker 3: they're both going to.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Be there, and I don't know if they will be.
- 4:55Speaker 3: But if Jana Chora Blake Miller is there but you
- 4:58Speaker 3: pass on that for another position, then where are you
- 5:01Speaker 3: getting tackled depth from? And are you really feeling great
- 5:05Speaker 3: about that pick? I think if you're getting a guy
- 5:08Speaker 3: like a Markel Bell or like a Travis Burke or
- 5:11Speaker 3: somebody like that, you know what's realistically the ceiling of
- 5:14Speaker 3: that player. Is it fair to say that, oh, well,
- 5:17Speaker 3: we got our starting right tackle the future in the
- 5:20Speaker 3: fourth round, especially in a draft like this where I
- 5:22Speaker 3: feel like everybody's telling me it stinks. So like I
- 5:25Speaker 3: just you're telling me it stinks, yeah, because everybody's saying that,
- 5:31Speaker 3: Like you know, like everybody you talk to is telling
- 5:33Speaker 3: you the same thing, that there's a drop off in
- 5:35Speaker 3: talent about ten to twelve picks into the first round
- 5:38Speaker 3: where this thing levels off like crazy, and like really,
- 5:42Speaker 3: like some people think from like twenty to ninety is
- 5:45Speaker 3: like the same player, not let alone from twenty five
- 5:47Speaker 3: to fifty, like Elliot Wolf said, like I mentioned, so
- 5:51Speaker 3: if that's the way you look at Edge Rusher and
- 5:53Speaker 3: you say, well, is there really a big difference between
- 5:57Speaker 3: Malachi Lawrence or cash As Howell or TJ. Parker at
- 6:01Speaker 3: thirty one and Derek Moore at sixty three versus Blake
- 6:06Speaker 3: Miller at thirty one and Travis Burke at ninety five
- 6:10Speaker 3: or Markel Bell or Isaiah World or whoever you end
- 6:13Speaker 3: up picking there. I think that there's a much bigger
- 6:16Speaker 3: gap between those tackles than there are the edge rushers.
- 6:19Speaker 3: So that's why I think it makes sense to go
- 6:23Speaker 3: tackle edge rusher as much as I hate it, Like
- 6:26Speaker 3: I've said all off season that I don't want to
- 6:28Speaker 3: do that because of the red shirt thing for the tackle,
- 6:31Speaker 3: But is Morgan Moses gonna play seventeen plus games?
- 6:34Speaker 2: You know?
- 6:35Speaker 3: Is who's behind those two with Will Campbell and Morgan
- 6:39Speaker 3: Moses in terms of death? You know, there's a chance
- 6:41Speaker 3: that that tackle at thirty one still plays, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 3: as a rookie, maybe more than we want them to.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe it's the third tackle. But I think that
- 6:49Speaker 1: speaks to the great unknown of this draft being at
- 6:51Speaker 1: thirty one, which is you're gonna have to wait and
- 6:53Speaker 1: see where the positional runs are and who falls through
- 6:57Speaker 1: the cracks. And I think a lot of time teams
- 6:59Speaker 1: in this position. It might not be your greatest need there,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but you say this will be you need at some point.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And this is a really talented player that we love,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and even though we might not have an open spot
- 7:10Speaker 1: for him to step right in, this is what the
- 7:13Speaker 1: draft gods have presented with us, you know, and let's
- 7:15Speaker 1: just take advantage of it.
- 7:16Speaker 6: I just feel like it needs to be a smart
- 7:18Speaker 6: draft in less of like a flashy draft, Like it's
- 7:22Speaker 6: about filling, like Evan say, it's about filling the holes
- 7:24Speaker 6: where you need depth and tackle you need depth. Edge,
- 7:27Speaker 6: you definitely need depth. I wouldn't I see a scenario
- 7:30Speaker 6: where the Patriots take two.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Edgedressers in this draft.
- 7:32Speaker 6: I think it's very possible because they need to expand
- 7:35Speaker 6: that that depth.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yeah, they just need to get better. It kind of
- 7:38Speaker 1: hits on some Chris I think is a point that
- 7:40Speaker 1: kind of keewing up my points for tonight on our
- 7:42Speaker 1: on our Draft show, it's gonna laugh and talking about
- 7:44Speaker 1: three hours before the Patriots are even on the clock.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And I don't want to put too much on it
- 7:48Speaker 1: because I think that the Patriots have a young quarterback
- 7:51Speaker 1: that we all believe in that's, you know, a good
- 7:53Speaker 1: player that should be continuing to ascend. But at the
- 7:56Speaker 1: same time, I think, to your point, Chris, you need
- 7:59Speaker 1: some impact up top, and I would I would call
- 8:01Speaker 1: it tackle that even if it's not an immediate starter,
- 8:04Speaker 1: it's a guy who's going to be protecting Drake may
- 8:06Speaker 1: in the not too distant future for a long time.
- 8:09Speaker 1: But I also think the late rounds are really important
- 8:11Speaker 1: to pad that depth and to continue to make this
- 8:15Speaker 1: in the what the kind of team that they want
- 8:18Speaker 1: to build. You know, they weren't able to do it
- 8:19Speaker 1: all last year. We saw a lot of guys earlier
- 8:21Speaker 1: this offseason, you know, that had been with even back
- 8:24Speaker 1: to Belichick, that they moved on from. You know, with
- 8:26Speaker 1: guys like Tavia that you know, hey, we're gonna play
- 8:28Speaker 1: with him for a year, but it's either perfect fit
- 8:30Speaker 1: for us, maybe not, so let's go a year now,
- 8:32Speaker 1: we're going to move on. But again, I don't want
- 8:34Speaker 1: to put too much on it, but I feel like
- 8:36Speaker 1: at the top of the draft they need to find
- 8:37Speaker 1: some guys at edge, maybe tackle, and at the end
- 8:40Speaker 1: of draft they gotta find guys that can provide some depth,
- 8:42Speaker 1: you know, maybe a cornerback. I mean, you talked about
- 8:44Speaker 1: cornerback tists, but you know it's a little bit tenuous there.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I'd still think that that's a position that you know
- 8:49Speaker 1: that they have decent depth at as well as running back.
- 8:52Speaker 1: But they just have to continue to get their kind
- 8:54Speaker 1: of guys in this draft, and every draft is important.
- 8:56Speaker 1: This is where you build yourself a long term, sustain
- 9:00Speaker 1: enable program. And they have a lot of picks tonight.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I just hope they make the best use of them
- 9:04Speaker 1: and they move around the board a lot and are
- 9:05Speaker 1: able to get those get those guys that are there
- 9:08Speaker 1: kind of guys. Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 4: I mean with with cornerback too.
- 9:10Speaker 5: I mean people forget like has gone to play a
- 9:12Speaker 5: full season yet Carlton Davis is getting up there in age.
- 9:15Speaker 5: But another interesting thing is with the draft, you always
- 9:18Speaker 5: see the veteran trades. So like, for example, if you
- 9:21Speaker 5: miss out on the tight end, but Atlanta has Kyle Pitts.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Now, where did that come from?
- 9:24Speaker 5: I said, if it's not after a rapport, I don't
- 9:29Speaker 5: like that being said, Like it's an idea. I mean,
- 9:32Speaker 5: he's franchise tag, But what if there's a player like
- 9:34Speaker 5: that who's on a tag you know, tag and trade,
- 9:37Speaker 5: maybe give up your fourth or next year's third.
- 9:40Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 9:40Speaker 6: It's just something that's That's the thing with the Kyle
- 9:42Speaker 6: Pits situation is he's going to be a free agent
- 9:45Speaker 6: this year, so it's is it worth giving up something
- 9:48Speaker 6: when you could pray.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Give him a contract? You know, see he can work
- 9:51Speaker 1: something out.
- 9:52Speaker 4: I mean, I I just just in this moment, though,
- 9:54Speaker 4: is it worth it?
- 9:55Speaker 1: I would say yes. I mean, and I'm I'm a
- 9:57Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts fan just because I think he's a great
- 9:59Speaker 1: fit for Drake. It's a great fit with Hunter. Henry
- 10:02Speaker 1: talked about positions we feel like they have to hit
- 10:05Speaker 1: in this draft, and tight end is certainly one that
- 10:07Speaker 1: would solve that problem. But have we done this fall spring? We?
- 10:11Speaker 1: I mean, we go back and forth with Max Claire
- 10:13Speaker 1: and Sam Rousch and Oscar delp who I posted a
- 10:16Speaker 1: picture of himself in a Patriots jersey today. I don't
- 10:18Speaker 1: know that it's another Antonio or a J. Brown, So
- 10:22Speaker 1: keep calling Antony a J. Brown situation where he wants
- 10:24Speaker 1: to be a Patriot. But tight end is a position
- 10:27Speaker 1: I'd put a top the list tonight. Maybe not necessarily tonight, Yeah,
- 10:31Speaker 1: but tomorrow.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it's another one of those positions where you know
- 10:35Speaker 3: you mentioned tonight like Kenyon Zadik's the only first round
- 10:37Speaker 3: tight end, so they're not going to take a tight.
- 10:39Speaker 2: End at thirty one.
- 10:40Speaker 3: I'm just gonna go out on a on a big
- 10:42Speaker 3: limb and say Sadik's going higher than thirty one, and
- 10:45Speaker 3: they're not going to take a tight end at thirty one.
- 10:48Speaker 3: You know, I have seen some mock drafts with conversations
- 10:51Speaker 3: about Eli Stowers, like I think Stowers is a sixty
- 10:54Speaker 3: three guy, Like right, he's a guy that you're looking at,
- 10:56Speaker 3: maybe targeting him in the second round.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I've gone back and forth with this tight end class.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I feel like I've beaten the dead horse on my
- 11:03Speaker 3: thoughts on Stowers.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Not my guy, not my type of flavor at that position.
- 11:07Speaker 3: But you know, Claire, I think kind of is the
- 11:11Speaker 3: forgotten one here.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I feel like we've talked a.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Lot my first favorites.
- 11:15Speaker 3: We talked a lot about Delp, we talked a lot
- 11:16Speaker 3: about Rauch, and we talked a lot about Stowers. I
- 11:19Speaker 3: don't feel like we've talked enough about Max Clair, who
- 11:21Speaker 3: I feel like is sort of in the middle of
- 11:23Speaker 3: all these guys. He's got some of the receiving upside
- 11:26Speaker 3: that Eli Stoweres has, but he does block a little bit,
- 11:29Speaker 3: maybe not as good as delp and Rausch do, but
- 11:31Speaker 3: he has a little bit more of that receiving profile
- 11:34Speaker 3: than those two players do. So I wonder if him,
- 11:37Speaker 3: you know, in the second round, is a little bit
- 11:39Speaker 3: more realistic than what we've given credence to. But I
- 11:43Speaker 3: still feel like the one thing I keep coming back
- 11:45Speaker 3: to with this entire draft, this is your side of
- 11:47Speaker 3: the street, Duce. They have not drafted a defensive player
- 11:51Speaker 3: in the top one hundred since twenty twenty three. It's
- 11:54Speaker 3: been two straight drafts where they've been all offense or
- 11:56Speaker 3: with their early picks. And for good reason. They've had
- 11:59Speaker 3: one of the worst offense in football, and they have
- 12:01Speaker 3: a young quarterback and they needed to fix what they
- 12:04Speaker 3: had going on offensively. But Christian Gonzales and Kean White
- 12:08Speaker 3: and Marte Mapu in twenty twenty three. Since twenty fifteen,
- 12:13Speaker 3: they have made two first round picks on the defensive
- 12:16Speaker 3: side of the ball.
- 12:17Speaker 2: That's it.
- 12:18Speaker 3: So at some point, and I know they have Gonzales,
- 12:20Speaker 3: and I know they have Milton Williams and Barmore, and
- 12:23Speaker 3: they do have, you know, guys like Gonzo who are younger,
- 12:26Speaker 3: skew younger. But at some point you need to start
- 12:28Speaker 3: drafting some real talent on that side of the ball
- 12:33Speaker 3: because otherwise the cupboards is gonna go dry quick. Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it goes right to what I was saying earlier.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And I mean I think edge is a position that
- 12:41Speaker 1: you're gonna look at early. You're gonna have a guy
- 12:42Speaker 1: who can come in and maybe be your third rusher,
- 12:44Speaker 1: you know, maybe competes with Ponder. But I look over
- 12:48Speaker 1: there at like the defense that you know goes spallane
- 12:52Speaker 1: because someone certainly with Christian ellis entering the last year
- 12:54Speaker 1: of his deal. You mentioned Carlton Davis, just all these
- 12:57Speaker 1: different guys. I like what they have talent on defense. Yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 1: but they but it's tenuous. Guy gets hurt, you know,
- 13:04Speaker 1: with Splaine. No, you know, you don't have any more
- 13:06Speaker 1: Jack Gibbons coming back this year. So I think it's
- 13:08Speaker 1: that's another spot of the inside linebacker, off the ball linebackery.
- 13:12Speaker 1: How do they approach that.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I love this off the ball linebacker class.
- 13:15Speaker 3: You know, Wolf said that it didn't grade out quite
- 13:18Speaker 3: as high as he thought it was going to when
- 13:21Speaker 3: they started the process. But Day three seems like the
- 13:24Speaker 3: sweet spot, like the third or fourth round, where I
- 13:26Speaker 3: think there's gonna be a lot of value there. You know,
- 13:29Speaker 3: maybe eight to ten guys that are worth picking in
- 13:31Speaker 3: the middle rounds of this draft. At linebacker, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 3: do they shock us tonight and go C J. Allen
- 13:37Speaker 3: or Jacob Rodriguez, Like maybe that's a possibility, but I
- 13:40Speaker 3: still think that that's sort of that sweet spot. But
- 13:44Speaker 3: you know, on offense, and if we're being real about it,
- 13:47Speaker 3: you know, the AJ Brown part of it aside, like yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 3: they could use like that number one star receiver of
- 13:54Speaker 3: an ilk like AJ Brown. They certainly need depth along
- 13:59Speaker 3: the offensive line, and they need a successor to Hunter
- 14:02Speaker 3: Henry at tight end, But it doesn't feel like they
- 14:06Speaker 3: have a ton of holes. Like if they had to
- 14:08Speaker 3: start the season tomorrow on offense, I feel like they
- 14:11Speaker 3: could feel a pretty good starting eleven offensively. I mean,
- 14:16Speaker 3: they have their five offensive line, and they have three
- 14:18Speaker 3: receivers that I feel pretty good about. They have Hunter
- 14:21Speaker 3: Henry still, they have their two running backs still, and
- 14:23Speaker 3: of course they have the quarterback, So like, what more
- 14:26Speaker 3: do they really need for twenty twenty six besides depth
- 14:29Speaker 3: and then maybe you know, putting them over the top
- 14:31Speaker 3: by trading for AJ Brown. Whereas defensively, you know, I
- 14:35Speaker 3: look at that edge spot and I have concerns. You know,
- 14:37Speaker 3: I think that that spot not only is thin on
- 14:40Speaker 3: dep but I think it's thin on pass rush juice.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Like I like Draymond Jones. I think he's gonna be
- 14:44Speaker 3: a good addition for the team. But to me, it's
- 14:47Speaker 3: kind of a wash with Klevon Chase on leaving. Like,
- 14:50Speaker 3: you know, I don't really think that they may They
- 14:53Speaker 3: kind of treaded water there by swapping those two guys
- 14:55Speaker 3: out and then at behind that, I you know, are
- 14:58Speaker 3: we gonna put a lot of eggs in Elijah Ponder
- 15:01Speaker 3: and Braden Swinton baskets that those guys are gonna take
- 15:04Speaker 3: leaps and be really three down players and starters and.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Stuff like, Like, I don't.
- 15:09Speaker 3: I think that's putting a lot of expectations on guys
- 15:12Speaker 3: that were late round draft.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Picks or udfas.
- 15:14Speaker 3: So I really would like to see them come away
- 15:17Speaker 3: from this draft, maybe even tonight, with one of these
- 15:20Speaker 3: studs on the edge that we've been spending the last
- 15:22Speaker 3: four month talking about We.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Heard from Elio Wolf last week and he said we
- 15:25Speaker 1: could have some add some speed to this edge room. Yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 1: change how you looked at this group overall. Yeah.
- 15:31Speaker 3: And I think the tough part about it is that
- 15:33Speaker 3: some of the guys, especially at thirty one, don't fit
- 15:37Speaker 3: that description, like you know, Zion Young, TJ.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Parker, Eldrick Flers. You know, I was.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Watching TJ Parker and I went back and watched his
- 15:48Speaker 3: twenty twenty four tape recently because he had more production
- 15:51Speaker 3: in twenty twenty four, and everybody kept saying, well, you know,
- 15:54Speaker 3: you got to go watch the twenty twenty four tape
- 15:56Speaker 3: because that's you know, he broke out as a true sophomore,
- 15:59Speaker 3: you know, underclassman, you know, sort of early breakout type
- 16:02Speaker 3: of player at Clemson. I watched the twenty twenty fourteen
- 16:05Speaker 3: it's the same guy. Like I was like, this is
- 16:07Speaker 3: the same thing.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Like what are we talking about here?
- 16:09Speaker 3: You know, I watched him against Texas and the College
- 16:11Speaker 3: Football Playoff and he's going up against Kelvin Banks and
- 16:14Speaker 3: NFL caliber tackles there and had one pressure. You know,
- 16:18Speaker 3: it's it just doesn't He's not a pass rusher like
- 16:20Speaker 3: that's not his strength. He's a really sturdy, stout edgesetter,
- 16:24Speaker 3: good speed to power, good long arm. You know, can
- 16:27Speaker 3: bul Rush can do that type of thing. But if
- 16:29Speaker 3: you are taking Elliott at face value and just saying
- 16:33Speaker 3: that's what he told you, they're going with speed off
- 16:36Speaker 3: the edge, that those three guys fall young Parker, I
- 16:41Speaker 3: just like, don't see how that's their guy?
- 16:42Speaker 1: How our guy?
- 16:43Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 16:43Speaker 3: And I so I look at you know, Lawrence, I
- 16:47Speaker 3: look at Howell, Armyson Thomas. Maybe if it's in a
- 16:50Speaker 3: trade down scenario, like those are the types of guys
- 16:53Speaker 3: that I think fit that description.
- 16:55Speaker 2: You know, maybe if they're.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Gonna wait a little bit longer and get involved with
- 16:58Speaker 3: Ramel Height and Keon Crawford and bar him from Michigan
- 17:01Speaker 3: and you know those players that are more second third
- 17:03Speaker 3: round guys.
- 17:04Speaker 2: But I kind of crossed the Parkers and the Young
- 17:08Speaker 2: is off.
- 17:08Speaker 3: I just if he can't go to the podium and
- 17:11Speaker 3: say he want speed off the edge and then draft
- 17:13Speaker 3: Zion Young, Like he just doesn't make any sense.
- 17:15Speaker 6: Of of those three, I would say t J. Parker
- 17:18Speaker 6: is probably the speed.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Guy, in my opinions, got the most.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Off the edge.
- 17:24Speaker 6: I love those three and I mean you mentioned I
- 17:27Speaker 6: think another one to keep an eye on to is
- 17:29Speaker 6: Derek Moore.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I like Derek Moore a lot.
- 17:31Speaker 6: Him and Malachi Lawrence are very similar with their plus
- 17:34Speaker 6: Malaky's more.
- 17:35Speaker 2: A little a little more quick, a little more twitch.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I would actually more does more split the difference
- 17:40Speaker 1: between what we're talking. He got a little power, but he's.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I would I would say so.
- 17:44Speaker 6: I would say so when Lawrence relies a lot on
- 17:46Speaker 6: his legs and his agility and his speed to get
- 17:48Speaker 6: to the quarterback, I think more is you know, a
- 17:51Speaker 6: little more straight line kind of bull rush get to
- 17:53Speaker 6: the quarterback that way.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 3: His speed to power is definitely his calling card and
- 17:58Speaker 3: one of the better pass rush moves that it really
- 18:01Speaker 3: anybody has in this draft. And the one thing I
- 18:03Speaker 3: really liked about him was his inside move too, because
- 18:06Speaker 3: you know, guys are going to brace for that power
- 18:08Speaker 3: and so they're gonna set out and they're going to
- 18:09Speaker 3: try to put their feet in the ground and drop
- 18:11Speaker 3: an early anchor, and he's got that ability to you know,
- 18:14Speaker 3: jump inside of those over setting tackles. So that's where
- 18:17Speaker 3: you see some of that twitch or speed off the
- 18:19Speaker 3: edge from Derek Moore. I wouldn't say it's really high
- 18:22Speaker 3: side like around the edge. It's more inside, you know, Lawrence.
- 18:26Speaker 3: I think what's impressive about him to me is how
- 18:29Speaker 3: skilled he is with his hands. Like when I keep
- 18:31Speaker 3: saying it, but when I first started watching him back
- 18:34Speaker 3: in February, I thought that I was going to be
- 18:37Speaker 3: getting this like Combine superstar right, where like he doesn't
- 18:40Speaker 3: really know how to play football, but man is he
- 18:42Speaker 3: an athlete?
- 18:43Speaker 1: Right?
- 18:44Speaker 3: And then I turned on the tape with him, and
- 18:46Speaker 3: he's got some skill. He's got some pass rush moves.
- 18:49Speaker 3: You know, he's got a wide repertoire, things that he
- 18:51Speaker 3: can go to to beat tackles. And you know, I
- 18:54Speaker 3: was reading some of the mock drafts from some of
- 18:55Speaker 3: the big insiders, you know, the Schraggers and the Daniel
- 18:58Speaker 3: Jeremiah's and things like that, and they got Malchay Lawrence
- 19:01Speaker 3: going before the Patriots. You know, a guy that's gonna
- 19:04Speaker 3: maybe slide all the way up into the twenties of
- 19:06Speaker 3: this draft. So he's your classic riser. He is skyrocketed
- 19:11Speaker 3: up the board.
- 19:12Speaker 6: It's really interesting too, because he was pretty pretty much
- 19:15Speaker 6: in that second third round area.
- 19:16Speaker 1: For a lot of that's how it happens.
- 19:20Speaker 3: I'm telling you it's a UCF thing, right, He's a
- 19:23Speaker 3: it's a smaller school. It's not a blue blood. It's
- 19:26Speaker 3: not Georgia, it's not Alabama. You know, it's not one
- 19:28Speaker 3: of those types of programs. And nine times out of ten,
- 19:31Speaker 3: when you see a guy like that tear up the combine,
- 19:34Speaker 3: he's got no feel for the game. He's just a
- 19:36Speaker 3: raw athlete, a ball of clay. And there's definitely some
- 19:39Speaker 3: development needed with mal Ky Lawrence against the run, but
- 19:42Speaker 3: as a pass rusher, I was really impressed. I was like,
- 19:45Speaker 3: this guy knows what he's doing. Uh, but you know
- 19:47Speaker 3: that's rare from those types of schools. So good on UCF.
- 19:50Speaker 3: They coach that kid up. Good for them.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Well he humored me for a little defense talk on
- 19:55Speaker 1: the edge. But I don't ask question like.
- 19:57Speaker 4: What about wide receiver?
- 19:58Speaker 1: It talking all right, just simple questions. He do the
- 20:01Speaker 1: Patriots draft a wide receiver this weekend?
- 20:04Speaker 4: Yes?
- 20:04Speaker 5: I don't know where though, dude, this is this is
- 20:07Speaker 5: draft like number six for US seven, maybe Auntie Higgins.
- 20:10Speaker 5: H It's just crazy, like out of all the prospects
- 20:12Speaker 5: we've had CD Lamb, we've had JSN Alave, we never
- 20:16Speaker 5: take them.
- 20:16Speaker 3: All those guys went ahead of the mill.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I'm just saying, saying the drafted McMillan.
- 20:25Speaker 5: But we're getting that is that like we've had all
- 20:27Speaker 5: these like blue trip players and naturally this draft which
- 20:31Speaker 5: doesn't have anybody that stands out to you and me, Duce,
- 20:33Speaker 5: We're going to take somebody, and I just don't know
- 20:34Speaker 5: when it's going to be Boston.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But I think the tea leaves are I'm reading the
- 20:39Speaker 1: tea leaves to say, if the aj brown things in
- 20:40Speaker 1: the works, you're not going to spend a high round pick.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Kind of takes the wide receiver out of the mix
- 20:44Speaker 1: for me, at least in the first few rounds. You know,
- 20:46Speaker 1: maybe you take a shot at a bigger, developmental kind
- 20:49Speaker 1: of a guy. I find myself gravitating now everything I
- 20:53Speaker 1: look at with wide receiver, it's based on Drake May.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And what does Drake May like? He likes big guys,
- 20:57Speaker 1: big catch radiuses, uh, guys that he can roll the
- 21:00Speaker 1: ball downfield too with accuracy. So you know, if you
- 21:02Speaker 1: can outsize somebody short, or you can outspeed somebody deep
- 21:07Speaker 1: and catch that deep ball, I think it's a good
- 21:09Speaker 1: match for Drake, but I have to. I mean, I've
- 21:11Speaker 1: been pointed out all spring. You know, a bunch of
- 21:13Speaker 1: guys are free agents next year, and it's it's Mac Collins,
- 21:15Speaker 1: it's you know, Tomorrio.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Douglass in the twenty twenty three guys, and.
- 21:18Speaker 1: We're seeing Kyshan Boody is rumored with trade speculation.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Now, my thing is if you take a receiver, like
- 21:23Speaker 5: obviously not first round, well who knows these days, but
- 21:25Speaker 5: like mid round, Like what does that do for Kyle Williams,
- 21:28Speaker 5: Like we just drafted him. I want to see him
- 21:30Speaker 5: get more touches, like he had a couple of breakout
- 21:32Speaker 5: games last year. I just think it does more damage
- 21:34Speaker 5: to those players that are already here.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I hear the argument for well, why don't
- 21:38Speaker 3: you split the baby and draft one in like the
- 21:40Speaker 3: third or fourth round, so at least you have one
- 21:43Speaker 3: developmental guy. But if you do end up.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Trading for a J.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Brown, it's not like you're burying somebody that you drafted,
- 21:49Speaker 3: you know early on in the draft too early. But
- 21:52Speaker 3: then you know, you start to think about the guys
- 21:54Speaker 3: that would be in that RANGEO stribbling to john'stribbling.
- 21:56Speaker 2: From all miss.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Now everybody's saying he's going to the second round. So
- 21:59Speaker 3: like at one point he was the darling fourth round
- 22:01Speaker 3: pick for the Patriots. Oh like, you know, you want
- 22:03Speaker 3: to split the baby. Just take de John Stribbling at
- 22:06Speaker 3: one twenty five. Now it sounds like he's going to
- 22:08Speaker 3: be off the board by one twenty five.
- 22:10Speaker 2: So who is it?
- 22:11Speaker 1: Is it?
- 22:11Speaker 2: Bryce Lance?
- 22:12Speaker 3: You know, there's a couple of different guys in that
- 22:15Speaker 3: Ted Hurst, you know, like who falls maybe in that range,
- 22:18Speaker 3: But I'm still not.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Ruling out Denzel Boston or CASEC.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Like CASEC to me is, you know, probably the best
- 22:26Speaker 3: pure separator out of any of the receivers in this draft.
- 22:29Speaker 3: I know he's got some concerns at the catch point
- 22:31Speaker 3: with his hands and things like that, but if you
- 22:34Speaker 3: just want an electric playmaker that gets open at the
- 22:36Speaker 3: top of routes that eats up you know, Cushion with
- 22:39Speaker 3: his speed, a really really good three level separator and
- 22:43Speaker 3: big play type of guy.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I'm with you, Duce.
- 22:46Speaker 3: I know we get a lot of flak for liking
- 22:48Speaker 3: Denzel Boston. They get on us for it. It's like
- 22:51Speaker 3: Nikhil Harry went to Jalen Polk school.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I know, but I thought he moved pretty good.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I mean he's not as loose and and flexible as
- 23:01Speaker 1: McMillan is. I mean he's just a special, almost like
- 23:03Speaker 1: basketball kind of player.
- 23:04Speaker 2: So I McMillan went in the top.
- 23:05Speaker 1: But you look at the what is a three percent
- 23:07Speaker 1: drop rate with this guy? I mean, monster hands, catches,
- 23:10Speaker 1: everything is not everybody needs to be a burner. There
- 23:12Speaker 1: can be a spectrum of wide receivers on your team
- 23:15Speaker 1: that hey, we got a big guy to move the chains,
- 23:17Speaker 1: we got a fast guy to get down the field.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I just going back though, if you were to get
- 23:21Speaker 1: AJ Brown and you're looking at next year and Kyle
- 23:23Speaker 1: Williams has a good year, is it terrible to look
- 23:25Speaker 1: at AJ Brown, Romeo Dobbs, Kyle Williams emerging. Is that
- 23:29Speaker 1: a terrible top three? So ideally you'd love to get
- 23:32Speaker 1: back to a place where, hey, we're gonna have three
- 23:34Speaker 1: wide receivers up next year, let's draft one this year.
- 23:37Speaker 1: But I think they're almost a little bit over their
- 23:39Speaker 1: skis at this position right now. And the last point
- 23:41Speaker 1: I'll make on these guys is just I wonder if
- 23:43Speaker 1: Efton Chisholm's gonna push if he's if he's gonna do something.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Pop Douglas was so up and down. We saw him
- 23:49Speaker 1: like you want him to be a quick, short slot receiver.
- 23:53Speaker 1: It's not really what he is. He's a fast guy,
- 23:55Speaker 1: but he wants to make plays downfield. I don't know
- 23:57Speaker 1: if Drake loves throwing in the ball because he is
- 23:59Speaker 1: a smaller. He did make some big plays. He had
- 24:01Speaker 1: a big touchdown against the Chargers in the playoffs, so
- 24:03Speaker 1: it's not like he's a total loss. But I I
- 24:06Speaker 1: still have that Minnesota game with Efton Chisholm in my
- 24:08Speaker 1: head of toughness after the catch and the queen.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, I know, I know.
- 24:13Speaker 1: That's why I know, and I don't want to get
- 24:15Speaker 1: over it, but it's there was something about him that
- 24:17Speaker 1: was tough and that I felt like I could see
- 24:20Speaker 1: something here that isn't necessarily what we're seeing from puffed up.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I know it was essentially a preseason game against the
- 24:25Speaker 3: Jets too the second time, but he also had a
- 24:28Speaker 3: pretty nice game against that. You know, had a nice
- 24:30Speaker 3: catch over the middle against it, you know, all Helpolitz
- 24:32Speaker 3: and kind of knew where he was supposed to be
- 24:34Speaker 3: and got opened quickly. And was there and you know,
- 24:36Speaker 3: broke a tackle, made a big play. But I you know,
- 24:40Speaker 3: we were arguing about this on catch twenty two yesterday,
- 24:42Speaker 3: And I'll ask you guys this, there's a world where
- 24:45Speaker 3: they are up on the clock at thirty one tonight
- 24:48Speaker 3: and Casey c is staring them in the face and
- 24:50Speaker 3: he's just the best player on the board by a
- 24:52Speaker 3: country mile. Is it too much to sign Romeo Dobbs
- 24:56Speaker 3: draft CONCEPSI owner Denzel Boston and trade for Aj Brown?
- 25:00Speaker 3: Like are we sinking too much into wide receiver? I
- 25:03Speaker 3: kind of feel like that is a lot to sink
- 25:04Speaker 3: into one position. With that being said, I hear the
- 25:07Speaker 3: other side of, well, now you don't have a receiver
- 25:09Speaker 3: problem anymore, right, Like you just nailed it in terms
- 25:12Speaker 3: of that. So it's a little you know, is it
- 25:14Speaker 3: two bengalsy for me? Where like Drake may is gonna
- 25:17Speaker 3: spend his entire season on his butt, So like what
- 25:20Speaker 3: difference is going to make? Or you know, are we
- 25:22Speaker 3: feeling good about just blowing it out at wide receiver
- 25:25Speaker 3: and saying we just got three studs?
- 25:27Speaker 1: It's tempting. It's tempting. I'm not gonna lie. I mean
- 25:29Speaker 1: as much as I would probably prefer to like go
- 25:31Speaker 1: tackle or along the line. It is tempting.
- 25:33Speaker 4: It's tempting.
- 25:34Speaker 5: But you guys have talked about this on PU but
- 25:36Speaker 5: we're just like throwing Kaishan Boudi's name through the mutt.
- 25:39Speaker 5: Like you drafted, he's twenty three years old. He's become
- 25:42Speaker 5: a productive receiver, and like the point of the draft
- 25:45Speaker 5: is to develop people. Well, you got a twenty three
- 25:47Speaker 5: year old developmental receiver that you drafted, and I know,
- 25:49Speaker 5: like the market adjusts. Paul thinks he's reached his level,
- 25:52Speaker 5: but I just I feel like he's sometimes too good
- 25:54Speaker 5: to just throw out the door, or at least you
- 25:55Speaker 5: got to get something good in return for him.
- 25:57Speaker 1: It's another good debate and I Albert Breuer reported today
- 26:00Speaker 1: he was looking for a third day pick for Kaishan Boody, which.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Sounds about right.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I mean, but it's I tend to agree with what
- 26:06Speaker 1: you said. Paul said. I think he is what he is.
- 26:07Speaker 1: It's not at great hands. You know, uh gets downfield.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I mean the catch in the playoffs was outstanding. But
- 26:14Speaker 1: I wouldn't be upset to part with him if it
- 26:16Speaker 1: meant bigger thing.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Do you have a you do, sorry, Chris, do you
- 26:18Speaker 3: is there a bigger ceiling there? Like, is there a
- 26:20Speaker 3: player that you can bring in?
- 26:21Speaker 2: Obviously?
- 26:22Speaker 3: Aj Brown has a higher ceiling than Kayshan Boody, you know,
- 26:25Speaker 3: Denzel Boston. I think, you know, I would like kind
- 26:27Speaker 3: of say he's sort of more Matt Collins and he
- 26:29Speaker 3: is Kai Shan Boody, but you know, like he's Matt
- 26:32Speaker 3: Collins with like a jet pack on his back, right,
- 26:34Speaker 3: and so you know, and younger obviously too.
- 26:37Speaker 2: So I I just if you're.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Bringing in another receiver, you're probably thinking it's going to
- 26:41Speaker 3: be in that sort of bigger body outside receiver prototype,
- 26:45Speaker 3: whether it's in the draft or it's AJ Brown. So
- 26:47Speaker 3: where is Kai Shan Boody's snaps coming from? Like where
- 26:51Speaker 3: is he going to play? And he's a good enough
- 26:53Speaker 3: player that he should be playing. You know, this isn't
- 26:55Speaker 3: a situation where you know you can sell to him. Hey,
- 26:58Speaker 3: you're a young kid, Kyle Williams is like, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 3: you're sitting behind digs, like you know, learn the ropes,
- 27:03Speaker 3: learn from the vets, like Kaishan Boody is gonna want
- 27:05Speaker 3: to play, and rightfully so.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And it's if you're gonna trade him. I think now's
- 27:09Speaker 1: the time. I think you're selling high on him. You're
- 27:11Speaker 1: gonna have to give him a contractor let him hit
- 27:13Speaker 1: free agency next or maybe then you're looking at a
- 27:15Speaker 1: camp pick. But this might be the time to trade him.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Right, I mean for a production level this past season.
- 27:20Speaker 6: Obviously you saw a lot more out of kai Shan
- 27:21Speaker 6: Boody than you did of out of Kyle Williams. But
- 27:25Speaker 6: you think about their two play styles and how they
- 27:28Speaker 6: were making plays and touchdowns. They were scoring all downfield touchdowns.
- 27:31Speaker 6: Kyle Williams only a tender sets on the air, but
- 27:33Speaker 6: he had three touchdowns that.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Went for yeah, thirty plus yards.
- 27:38Speaker 6: Yeah, So you know, these are the plays you have
- 27:40Speaker 6: to keep in mind. And Kaishan Boody being as big
- 27:43Speaker 6: of a downfield threat as he was for Drake, could
- 27:47Speaker 6: Kyle sort of fill role in that type of world
- 27:50Speaker 6: as well?
- 27:50Speaker 3: You know?
- 27:51Speaker 6: Yeah, And you saw you saw flashes of it this
- 27:53Speaker 6: past season. That's why it's really an interesting debate.
- 27:57Speaker 1: We'll see what happens with Booty. I mean, that's that's
- 27:59Speaker 1: always the X factor. I think a couple of years ago,
- 28:01Speaker 1: or not more than a couple of years ago. Now
- 28:03Speaker 1: was like the Gronk trade, like I thought he was retired.
- 28:05Speaker 1: You know, there's some weird stuff that sometimes happens in
- 28:07Speaker 1: this weird period while you're building up to the draft.
- 28:10Speaker 1: But you know, I'm another person I want to talk
- 28:12Speaker 1: to you guys about and we do a lot of
- 28:14Speaker 1: these shows. We talk a lot about this stuff. We
- 28:15Speaker 1: never really talk about the running backs.
- 28:18Speaker 2: And because what running backs do you want to talk about?
- 28:22Speaker 1: Rondertive is the Treeman Henderson we know, we know we got,
- 28:24Speaker 1: but you know, Reggie Gilliam, they brought him in full back.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Brock might be your guy maybe coming back and to
- 28:28Speaker 1: try to push, but you know, Terrell Jennings, Elijah Mitchell,
- 28:31Speaker 1: land Larrison. Ideally i'd like to have a third back.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Is that something that in the draft or one of
- 28:37Speaker 1: those guys? Okay, and I know we're talking about the
- 28:39Speaker 1: third running back.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Obviously I had real.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Estate on on brock Lampy Island, all right, Like I
- 28:43Speaker 3: have a little house there. But I also would say
- 28:45Speaker 3: that I have a little house on land Larison Island
- 28:48Speaker 3: as well, because I really liked what I saw out
- 28:50Speaker 3: of land Larrison in the spring last year.
- 28:52Speaker 2: And I know it's the spring.
- 28:54Speaker 3: I know it's you know, flag football and they're not
- 28:56Speaker 3: hitting anybody. But I thought he looked really smooth running
- 28:59Speaker 3: routes out of the backfield.
- 29:00Speaker 2: I remember Ricky Minni caamp, he was like the big take.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Yeah. I was like, whoa, you know there's Rex burke Head.
- 29:07Speaker 3: You just printed out Rex Burkhead again, like cool. Uh. So,
- 29:10Speaker 3: you know, I thought that he showed a little bit
- 29:13Speaker 3: of something. Obviously had a tremendous production. I know it
- 29:15Speaker 3: wasn't a high level of football, but had tremendous production
- 29:18Speaker 3: in college. I just I wouldn't sleep on land lairs
- 29:21Speaker 3: and making a push for that running back three spot.
- 29:24Speaker 3: I'm with you, though, you know, maybe in the late
- 29:26Speaker 3: day three range, can you bring in some competition for
- 29:29Speaker 3: him and Terrell Jennings and and maybe you know, whoever
- 29:31Speaker 3: is the best in training camp is the one that
- 29:33Speaker 3: ends up winning the job. But I you know, listen,
- 29:36Speaker 3: there's a lot of property available on land lars in Island.
- 29:40Speaker 3: You're all welcome. You can all buy a house if
- 29:43Speaker 3: you want to buy a house. I'm telling you right
- 29:45Speaker 3: now to buy some property beachfront if you want to.
- 29:47Speaker 2: It's all available. It's it's a really great.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I went to our to our haircut gy g, a
- 29:55Speaker 1: r G might go after this and and the guy
- 29:58Speaker 1: was like, yeah, you know, I cut some of the
- 29:59Speaker 1: Patriots and I'm like, oh really, who was like lean lears,
- 30:04Speaker 1: that's a random.
- 30:04Speaker 2: He just got off the he's dragging down Main Street.
- 30:11Speaker 1: You're probably gonna be there with him.
- 30:12Speaker 5: Sorry, no, no, I remember for the running back section,
- 30:16Speaker 5: I was just looking for something that draft even that
- 30:20Speaker 5: just something that Patriots don't have. And I looked at
- 30:22Speaker 5: Mike Washington, just short yard. He's from Arkansas and the
- 30:24Speaker 5: kid from Navy Eli he can just mca he can
- 30:30Speaker 5: play everything, and that forces mccaffe does that not scream?
- 30:32Speaker 4: One of our seven six round picks over there?
- 30:34Speaker 1: Would have it? Bill Belchi.
- 30:35Speaker 2: I think he might be going higher than that.
- 30:37Speaker 3: But yeah, you know, Josh McDaniels, you have to think
- 30:40Speaker 3: that Josh McDaniels is like, I could have a lot
- 30:42Speaker 3: of fun with this guy, right, you know, is he
- 30:43Speaker 3: a receiver? Is he an h back? Is he a
- 30:46Speaker 3: running back? He might be all three? You know, I
- 30:49Speaker 3: don't really know. You know, if he can play, his
- 30:51Speaker 3: path to me is is you know, sort of in
- 30:54Speaker 3: that kind of jack of all trade sort of role
- 30:57Speaker 3: and then obviously being a big impact on special teams.
- 30:59Speaker 2: So I don't know what.
- 31:00Speaker 3: I don't break down the special team's gunner tape like
- 31:03Speaker 3: some people do, so I don't know what he brings
- 31:05Speaker 3: to the table and that uh so, but he's gonna
- 31:08Speaker 3: if he's gonna make a roster as a rookie and
- 31:10Speaker 3: really push, you know, to get playing time, he's gonna
- 31:14Speaker 3: have to play in the kicking game as well. It's
- 31:16Speaker 3: not going to be one of those situations where he's
- 31:18Speaker 3: just gonna be an offensive weapon. I would say that
- 31:20Speaker 3: with anybody that's running back three though last year, the
- 31:23Speaker 3: third running back, whether it was Antonio Gibson, it was
- 31:25Speaker 3: Drell Jennings, it was Dearness Johnson was returning kickoffs all
- 31:29Speaker 3: year long. So that player is going to have to
- 31:31Speaker 3: bring some sort of returnability kick coverage, preferably both, to
- 31:36Speaker 3: the table in order to make the roster. So I
- 31:39Speaker 3: think LeAnn Larrison has a little bit of that juice,
- 31:41Speaker 3: like he might. He doesn't have the straight line speed,
- 31:43Speaker 3: but with the new rules, he might be able to have,
- 31:46Speaker 3: you know, some kickoff experience and returnability. But if I'm
- 31:49Speaker 3: looking at running back late on Day three, whoever they draft,
- 31:52Speaker 3: I think is going to have to be somebody that
- 31:54Speaker 3: translates to the kicking game in some capacity.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the full back in the addition, you
- 31:59Speaker 1: know that they made all sleep with Gilliam might change
- 32:02Speaker 1: this a little bit. But for me, when I was
- 32:03Speaker 1: looking at the running backs, I felt like short yardage,
- 32:05Speaker 1: you know, Ramandre treveon third and one, those guys not
- 32:09Speaker 1: not their kind of scene. I think, I mean, they
- 32:11Speaker 1: can get it done, but maybe the fullback changes that
- 32:13Speaker 1: equation a little bit. Washington, I think he's going to
- 32:15Speaker 1: go to I mean, he's like probably the third back
- 32:17Speaker 1: in the class, right, I mean, he's going to go
- 32:19Speaker 1: pretty high behind Love and Price. But you know, like
- 32:22Speaker 1: Ca Tron Allen, Joe McColeman, those were a couple of
- 32:24Speaker 1: guys that short yardage with.
- 32:30Speaker 5: Running back at least, that's the one position you can
- 32:31Speaker 5: actually pick somebody up off the street.
- 32:33Speaker 4: They can get three yards I know and not speak
- 32:35Speaker 4: in my language.
- 32:36Speaker 1: And that's what I like you get back to just prioritizing,
- 32:38Speaker 1: And I mean I thought your question was great of
- 32:40Speaker 1: about Concepcio being there. You know, do you just make
- 32:43Speaker 1: the pick even if it's not the biggest uh you
- 32:45Speaker 1: know need and you might be over stacking the wide
- 32:47Speaker 1: receiver room, but I kind of get back to the
- 32:49Speaker 1: trenches and trying to just build from there out. And
- 32:52Speaker 1: that's why when you said the cornerback thing, I was like, no,
- 32:56Speaker 1: and I get it, because let's face it, there a
- 32:58Speaker 1: multiple time last year you thought Calton Davis was done
- 33:01Speaker 1: and then he was back out there having like seven
- 33:04Speaker 1: times like even in practice like uh oh there go
- 33:06Speaker 1: there and then he's right back in. But that's and
- 33:09Speaker 1: that feeds into kind of the next thing I wanted
- 33:11Speaker 1: to talk about, which was just the nose tackle position.
- 33:13Speaker 1: And you know, this is a good class have There
- 33:15Speaker 1: are a lot.
- 33:15Speaker 4: Of big dudes.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I mean, we did the defensive tackle pre the defensive
- 33:19Speaker 1: line preview. I feel like maybe they didn't get their
- 33:21Speaker 1: due because we piled the edge, the linebackers and the
- 33:23Speaker 1: defensive lineman in there. But Kate McDonald's a guy that
- 33:26Speaker 1: I've seen more than a couple of people mentioned as
- 33:28Speaker 1: a potential fall through the cracks. Here he is and
- 33:31Speaker 1: there's something and you guys know me, this is what
- 33:33Speaker 1: I love. But there's something very appealing to me about
- 33:36Speaker 1: that kind of young, big defensive lineman who still is growing,
- 33:39Speaker 1: still has a ceiling to plug him in with Milton Williams,
- 33:43Speaker 1: with Christian Barmore. You hope that Corey Durdin continues to ascend.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Maybe you're getting something out of Lenny t But I
- 33:50Speaker 1: I would kind of like that pick, and I think
- 33:52Speaker 1: people probably wouldn't like.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Well, there's two ways to look at that pick.
- 33:57Speaker 3: One is in order to get the third down and
- 33:59Speaker 3: you have to stop him on first and second and
- 34:01Speaker 3: Cadan McDonald is one of the guys that's gonna stop
- 34:03Speaker 3: him on first and second down. And it's a copycat league.
- 34:06Speaker 3: And I understand that we do this and we overreact
- 34:08Speaker 3: every year to.
- 34:08Speaker 2: The Super Bowl. But Seattle won the Super Bowl because
- 34:11Speaker 2: of the trenches.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Like they did not win the Super Bowl because they
- 34:14Speaker 3: had Jsen on the outside.
- 34:15Speaker 2: They won the Super Bowl because they dominated the line
- 34:17Speaker 2: of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Yeah, but it was the defensive line. It was the
- 34:24Speaker 3: run game in Kenneth Walker was the MVP of the game.
- 34:26Speaker 3: That's what won Seattle to the Super Bowl. So if
- 34:29Speaker 3: you're trying to replicate that, you know they come at
- 34:31Speaker 3: you on the defensive line and waves like, it's not
- 34:33Speaker 3: like they didn't have one necessarily, you know, Aaron Donald
- 34:37Speaker 3: or Miles Garrett on their defensive line. They just have six, seven,
- 34:41Speaker 3: eight guys and the year before who won the Super Bowl,
- 34:44Speaker 3: the Philadelphia Eagles with this same Bill Brams, just all
- 34:47Speaker 3: these different guys on the defensive line that could contribute.
- 34:50Speaker 2: So point.
- 34:51Speaker 3: He might not be the pass rusher that I wish,
- 34:54Speaker 3: you know he was. He's not a three technique, he's
- 34:56Speaker 3: not a penetrator. But the one thing that it does
- 34:59Speaker 3: really stand out with McDonald is he has the ability
- 35:02Speaker 3: to make plays in the run game. Like he's a
- 35:04Speaker 3: playmaking nose tackle. He's not a space eater. He had
- 35:07Speaker 3: thirty run stuff slash year that was the most in
- 35:09Speaker 3: the FBS. So this is the guy that can get
- 35:12Speaker 3: off blocks, his knock back power just ragged all guys
- 35:15Speaker 3: out of the way and made tackles. You know, that's
- 35:18Speaker 3: different than oh, this guy is just gonna stand in
- 35:20Speaker 3: the A gap and like he's gonna be hard to move.
- 35:23Speaker 3: He's more of like a playmaker at that position, which
- 35:25Speaker 3: is enticing. When we moved down the draft and we
- 35:28Speaker 3: get into you know, my guy big Citrus and Dante
- 35:30Speaker 3: Corley Big if they if they draft Big Citrus tomorrow night,
- 35:38Speaker 3: I'm gonna be.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Squeeze on him.
- 35:43Speaker 1: He beat him to a pulp. It's a lot of
- 35:45Speaker 1: work player with an orange. But the nose tackle is
- 35:52Speaker 1: really the only position that wasn't a one for one
- 35:55Speaker 1: swap this offseason. Everybody else, I mean, maybe you could,
- 35:57Speaker 1: I guess, I guess you can't even say Jack Gibbons
- 35:59Speaker 1: because k brit they brought him in. But otherwise, you know,
- 36:02Speaker 1: anybuddy they lost they kind of replaced. That was almost
- 36:06Speaker 1: toa say, Mike Ga SICKI I'm losing track of my
- 36:07Speaker 1: TV too.
- 36:08Speaker 4: You've been here too long.
- 36:10Speaker 1: I've been here too long. Austin Hooper replaced by Julian Hill,
- 36:13Speaker 1: which is definitely kind of a different swap. And maybe
- 36:16Speaker 1: we could circle back into these tight ends a little bit,
- 36:18Speaker 1: because I feel like that's the class today or not,
- 36:20Speaker 1: you know, this weekend. Yeah, that that that's the most
- 36:24Speaker 1: direct opportunity to give Drake a weapon that you can
- 36:27Speaker 1: see away to the field for them doesn't have to
- 36:29Speaker 1: immediately be thrust into first and second down and blocking
- 36:33Speaker 1: right right, you can you have a spot for hey,
- 36:35Speaker 1: you might only play third downs. And I keep going
- 36:38Speaker 1: back to what Aaron Hernandez did as a rookie. You know,
- 36:41Speaker 1: you know that fell apart obviously, but he was just
- 36:43Speaker 1: instantly a guy that came in and made an impact
- 36:46Speaker 1: in the passing game, maybe even more than Gronk right
- 36:48Speaker 1: out of the gate. I mean, Gronk obviously became all
- 36:51Speaker 1: all over the you know, the all around tight end
- 36:53Speaker 1: that that you need. But that's where we're at, and
- 36:56Speaker 1: that's when we look at these classes. He's two hundred
- 36:59Speaker 1: and thirty six pounds. Is he ever gonna be that
- 37:02Speaker 1: true dog blocking tight end? But do you even need
- 37:06Speaker 1: a true blocking tight like you could grab a guy
- 37:08Speaker 1: like Julian Hill. He's gonna do the dirty work. Let's
- 37:10Speaker 1: get an.
- 37:10Speaker 5: Athlete, Julian Hill. He doesn't move the needle for me,
- 37:13Speaker 5: but he fills a role. But people just forget, you know.
- 37:19Speaker 3: See this is the thing Matisse see in April doesn't
- 37:22Speaker 3: move the needle. But then when it's third and one,
- 37:25Speaker 3: and when it's third and one in the AFC Championship
- 37:28Speaker 3: game with a trip to the Super Bowl, they're running
- 37:30Speaker 3: behind and they and they can't pick up the yard
- 37:34Speaker 3: which they couldn't do really at all last year. And
- 37:36Speaker 3: their goal line rushing was not good last year either.
- 37:39Speaker 3: And he got Gilliam and he's coming through the hole
- 37:41Speaker 3: and Barrett tuckles on the double team, and and Julian
- 37:44Speaker 3: Hill is kicking out on the edge and they get
- 37:47Speaker 3: to one yard. You're gonna say to me, we're going
- 37:49Speaker 3: to the super Bowl. I'm gonna be like, yeah, matist,
- 37:50Speaker 3: who got us there? You know you're saying, oh, yeah,
- 37:54Speaker 3: prove wrong.
- 37:55Speaker 1: During the draft. I love to be proved wrong during
- 37:57Speaker 1: the proved the room draft. Though, I feel like this
- 37:59Speaker 1: is all like you select the guys, Andre, like, we'll see.
- 38:02Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a big I mean, the draft is the draft.
- 38:04Speaker 6: That's why it is what it is. It's a guessing
- 38:07Speaker 6: game in a way. And you know you want to,
- 38:09Speaker 6: you know, watching film, who you're gonna get and what
- 38:11Speaker 6: you're gonna see from the player. But it comes down
- 38:13Speaker 6: to how this player can be developed and can grow.
- 38:16Speaker 1: And I was looking back the first time I did
- 38:18Speaker 1: first big ward of the twenty eleven and I just
- 38:20Speaker 1: you know, over the years, like you're showing your age,
- 38:22Speaker 1: I'm showing my But I've always enjoyed it. But I'm
- 38:25Speaker 1: always amazed by the fact that we do our little
- 38:28Speaker 1: mock drafts and our big boards and all that kind
- 38:30Speaker 1: of stuff, and our little you know, they're big, are solid,
- 38:33Speaker 1: our solid drafts, and we're wrong a lot, but they're
- 38:37Speaker 1: wrong a lot too. Like across the league, thirty two teams,
- 38:39Speaker 1: like all they're doing like we do it. Like I
- 38:41Speaker 1: literally a Super Bowl ended, like the next week we
- 38:43Speaker 1: get in and we're like jump into the draft now,
- 38:45Speaker 1: Like who's this conceptsy own guy? Yeah, I mean you
- 38:48Speaker 1: probably know more than me. I'm like completely a blank
- 38:50Speaker 1: page when it comes to the draft. But even still,
- 38:52Speaker 1: like these guys do it year round. There are scouts
- 38:55Speaker 1: going to every school watching all these players, tracking them
- 38:59Speaker 1: through four years, like they swoop in their senior or
- 39:01Speaker 1: junior year and say, all right, he's coming out. Is
- 39:03Speaker 1: this guy good? Like they know they probably go all
- 39:04Speaker 1: the way to go back to high school and so
- 39:06Speaker 1: you think this is the culmination for this whole scouting class.
- 39:09Speaker 1: But every single team is going to have probably a
- 39:13Speaker 1: bad miss in this draft.
- 39:14Speaker 5: I'm thinking of approve me wrong, guy, And this isn't
- 39:16Speaker 5: just for this isn't for me at just the media
- 39:18Speaker 5: in general. I would say Craig Woodson a lot. He
- 39:20Speaker 5: got drafted. I think a decent amount of people are.
- 39:22Speaker 4: Like, I'm just not sure.
- 39:24Speaker 5: Then he's bawling out in the Super Bowl, which also
- 39:26Speaker 5: goes to safety in general. Evan, on your big board,
- 39:28Speaker 5: you have a couple of safeties too, right, I.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Do have a couple of safeties. I think you know,
- 39:32Speaker 3: Kevin Byern is thirty three years old, he's only on
- 39:34Speaker 3: a one year contract, and he's a great player. He
- 39:37Speaker 3: is an All Pro last year. But I think that's
- 39:38Speaker 3: a position that is sort of twofold to me.
- 39:41Speaker 2: One.
- 39:42Speaker 3: I think that they need pipeline players, they developmental players,
- 39:46Speaker 3: because Bayern's obviously going to be here for a short time,
- 39:49Speaker 3: not a long time. The other thing is is do
- 39:52Speaker 3: they want to get more three safety heavy? Do they
- 39:54Speaker 3: want to have that in their back pocket that you know,
- 39:58Speaker 3: dime defense sixty you know, defensive backs, third down and
- 40:01Speaker 3: not to keep going back to Seattle, but Seattle, right, Like,
- 40:05Speaker 3: do you want to be able to do that sort
- 40:06Speaker 3: of thing? Uh, then you need to get a third
- 40:09Speaker 3: safety in here that's maybe a little bit better than.
- 40:12Speaker 2: What you have.
- 40:12Speaker 3: You know, no disrespected del Pettis, but you know, can
- 40:16Speaker 3: you upgrade that third safety spot in the short term,
- 40:18Speaker 3: and then maybe in the long term that player is
- 40:21Speaker 3: Kevin Byard's long term replacement in Craig Woodson's wingman for
- 40:24Speaker 3: the next four or five years. So, you know, we
- 40:27Speaker 3: talked about cacc if Emmanuel McNeil Warren is one of
- 40:32Speaker 3: the guys that slides through the cracks at thirty one
- 40:35Speaker 3: because all the tackles go, and all the edge rushers go,
- 40:37Speaker 3: and the receivers all go, and you're sitting there and
- 40:40Speaker 3: you're saying, well, McNeil Warren bigger, longer, more physical player
- 40:46Speaker 3: than what we have already. So can he be like
- 40:49Speaker 3: our big nickel, you know, as a rookie and then
- 40:51Speaker 3: train under Kevin Byard, and then when Bayard is not
- 40:55Speaker 3: here anymore, then we have a guy to step right
- 40:57Speaker 3: in as a starter. With McNeil Warren. You know, you
- 40:59Speaker 3: can go later in the draft at that spot too.
- 41:01Speaker 3: It's a pretty deep safety draft, but I'm just saying,
- 41:05Speaker 3: you know, there's arguments to be made for that position
- 41:07Speaker 3: as well.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I think you're touching on to me, which is one
- 41:09Speaker 1: of the most interesting schematic things of this draft, and
- 41:12Speaker 1: we've talked about a little bit, is just they have
- 41:15Speaker 1: a very specific set of safeties types that they like.
- 41:19Speaker 1: But how do they split that second level coverage?
- 41:21Speaker 2: You know?
- 41:21Speaker 1: And that feeds into do they look at a linebacker
- 41:25Speaker 1: and off the ball linebacker who might maybe having a
- 41:27Speaker 1: little bit more size to challenge some of these tight ends,
- 41:30Speaker 1: or do they look at a little bit more of
- 41:32Speaker 1: a strong safety. When you look at modern NFL defense,
- 41:35Speaker 1: I see that as like kind of the weird point.
- 41:37Speaker 1: And it was so on display when you went from
- 41:40Speaker 1: Jerrameo and Bill Belichick's defense where it's Patrick Chung and
- 41:44Speaker 1: Kyle Duggar and you know, match and never have too
- 41:47Speaker 1: many strong safety types. And our linebackers are gonna be
- 41:49Speaker 1: big dudes who we probably don't want them in coverage,
- 41:51Speaker 1: but they're gonna be able to stop the run and
- 41:53Speaker 1: be physical. I think you might maybe get a signal
- 41:56Speaker 1: here of like what direction the scheme's gonna tend to evolve,
- 41:59Speaker 1: because again, and going back to my main point, you
- 42:01Speaker 1: didn't they couldn't do everything last year. So I think
- 42:03Speaker 1: there probably are some players in positions last year that
- 42:05Speaker 1: we don't even realize that this isn't the perfect fit. Ideally,
- 42:08Speaker 1: we'd like to get a mobile middle linebacker in there.
- 42:10Speaker 1: But you know, let's use Del Petes for example, in
- 42:12Speaker 1: that role this year.
- 42:13Speaker 3: You know, I just thought they got into some of
- 42:15Speaker 3: the dime stuff last year, and they did have Del
- 42:18Speaker 3: Pettis on the field in certain situations, and I just
- 42:21Speaker 3: love the look of that. I think that, especially on
- 42:23Speaker 3: third down, there's just a ton of flexibility that you
- 42:25Speaker 3: can get out of that schematically. Whereas you know, they
- 42:28Speaker 3: lived a lot in three corner nickel last year, and look,
- 42:31Speaker 3: they have three really good corners with Gonzales Davis and
- 42:34Speaker 3: Marcus Jones, so I get it. But when you're a
- 42:36Speaker 3: team that lives in three corner nickel like that, you
- 42:39Speaker 3: know eventually what we saw and I know we keep
- 42:41Speaker 3: going back to it, But in the Super Bowl, a
- 42:44Speaker 3: team just ran at three corner nickel and they were
- 42:46Speaker 3: able to run the ball right down your throat. And
- 42:48Speaker 3: they didn't have a bigger option in the nickel spot.
- 42:51Speaker 3: And I love Marcus Jones, but Marcus Jones is not
- 42:54Speaker 3: that right, and so you know, they didn't have a
- 42:57Speaker 3: bigger body type to put in the slot that might
- 43:00Speaker 3: be able to essentially stop to run like a linebacker
- 43:03Speaker 3: and be a little bit more physical and you know,
- 43:05Speaker 3: be take up a little bit more space. So you know,
- 43:08Speaker 3: that's a lot of these defenses, you know Seattle's and
- 43:12Speaker 3: you know the Baltimore's and the Chargers and you know,
- 43:14Speaker 3: all those different defenses that are kind of the darlings
- 43:17Speaker 3: of the league right now.
- 43:18Speaker 2: A lot of them have that.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Nick Ammon worry player that's sort of a Swiss Army
- 43:21Speaker 3: knife that can blur the lines between safety and linebacker,
- 43:25Speaker 3: and not necessarily in the same way as the Belichick
- 43:28Speaker 3: defenses did it, in more of a unique zone kind
- 43:31Speaker 3: of dropping type of way, but still a guy that
- 43:34Speaker 3: is just a little bit more sturdy in.
- 43:36Speaker 2: There and you know, can hold up against the run.
- 43:38Speaker 1: He's one of the first thoughts I had watching the
- 43:39Speaker 1: Super Bowl up in the six hundreds, the all twenty
- 43:44Speaker 1: two of you. But it was obvious from the start
- 43:47Speaker 1: that they had aj Barner and they're going to get
- 43:49Speaker 1: him on Marcus Jones. And you know, we saw Marcus
- 43:51Speaker 1: Jones almost pick off a pass. But all season long,
- 43:54Speaker 1: and I love Marcus Jones. I thought that was the
- 43:55Speaker 1: best year of his career. Last year he was an
- 43:57Speaker 1: All Pro punt returner. He is an impact player on
- 44:00Speaker 1: defense and he unleashed the level of physicality last year
- 44:03Speaker 1: that we had not seen yet. But you're gonna have
- 44:05Speaker 1: to live with the fact that when he gets matched
- 44:07Speaker 1: up on a tight end or a tall receiver and
- 44:09Speaker 1: teams are gonna try to get that matchup soright.
- 44:11Speaker 3: You know.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It's just it's one of those things where you love
- 44:12Speaker 1: the player, but you know that there are some things
- 44:15Speaker 1: that he just inherently is five foot eight and if
- 44:17Speaker 1: he's on a guy who's six foot five, you can't
- 44:20Speaker 1: blame another team for targeting that, you know. So I
- 44:23Speaker 1: but to have another player to slide in there, and
- 44:25Speaker 1: then it's like, well we pulling Marcus Jones.
- 44:26Speaker 3: I've always wondered if, like you know, maybe this is
- 44:29Speaker 3: totally off base, but if they did get a guy
- 44:32Speaker 3: that could play a little bit bigger in the Nickels spot,
- 44:35Speaker 3: Like can Marcus Jones play a little bit of safety?
- 44:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 44:38Speaker 3: Like can he move back a little bit to the
- 44:40Speaker 3: deep part of the field. I mean, he's got great speed,
- 44:42Speaker 3: you know, he's got instincts, he's got a nose for it. Like,
- 44:45Speaker 3: you know, maybe he's somebody that you could use in
- 44:48Speaker 3: that sort of way. Because I don't want to take
- 44:50Speaker 3: him off the field. He's one of their best players.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Like no one's you know, trying to take him off
- 44:53Speaker 3: the field. But at the same time, you know that's
- 44:56Speaker 3: there's an argument to be made for that, and I
- 44:58Speaker 3: had that tough time.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Dude, you kind of hit on it with this draft.
- 45:02Speaker 3: So many when you look for those bigger safeties like
- 45:06Speaker 3: a Nick Ammon worry, they don't exist because they're all linebackers.
- 45:09Speaker 3: So like in college now the two hundred and twenty
- 45:12Speaker 3: pound you know, strong safety is now Kyle Lewis, he's
- 45:16Speaker 3: now playing linebacker. You know, he's Harold Perkins, he's you know,
- 45:19Speaker 3: guys that have LB next to their dame. So it's
- 45:23Speaker 3: maybe semantics, you know, whether he's a linebacker or he's
- 45:26Speaker 3: a safety. But in this safety class, there's a lot
- 45:30Speaker 3: more cover guys and there are run defender types, and
- 45:32Speaker 3: like there aren't a lot of guys that are true
- 45:35Speaker 3: box safeties because those are all now being played at
- 45:39Speaker 3: linebacker in the college game. Like the one guy I
- 45:41Speaker 3: can probably think of his trade on Stokes from Arizona,
- 45:44Speaker 3: but he might now go in the first round two apparently,
- 45:46Speaker 3: so you know, I don't I don't know, But like
- 45:49Speaker 3: you know some of the guys that I gravitated towards,
- 45:51Speaker 3: you know, Bud Clark, Genesis Smith, those types of players,
- 45:55Speaker 3: those are cover guys like those are guys you want
- 45:57Speaker 3: to know.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Is the one the one?
- 46:00Speaker 3: Him and McNeil Warrener the two guys I think are
- 46:02Speaker 3: going to play closer to the line of scrimmage.
- 46:05Speaker 2: So you know, maybe Halsey's on the list.
- 46:07Speaker 1: All right, guys, I hate to do this too, but
- 46:09Speaker 1: I'd like to just talk for a minute about the
- 46:11Speaker 1: other teams in the NFL, specifically AFC.
- 46:13Speaker 4: Oh.
- 46:13Speaker 1: There are teams, well, especially the Jets, who are are
- 46:16Speaker 1: picking second overall. And you know, look the Jets, they've
- 46:19Speaker 1: made a lot of moves this offseason. They kind of
- 46:21Speaker 1: hit the reset button again again. But if you were
- 46:24Speaker 1: the Jets, ev or you know, anybody can chime in,
- 46:27Speaker 1: just you know, you're picking here at two and sixteen,
- 46:29Speaker 1: I mean, opportunity for the Jets and this is just
- 46:31Speaker 1: the tip of the iceberg for all their picks. The
- 46:34Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins picking right before the Patriots. But I don't
- 46:36Speaker 1: love that either, because that's going to always be a
- 46:38Speaker 1: pick that's kind of married to the Patriots. And then
- 46:41Speaker 1: you know the Bill's going slightly before that at twenty six.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Just any general thoughts you guys have on on the
- 46:47Speaker 1: AFC East what they need to do. You know, especially
- 46:49Speaker 1: Buffalo I've said, is maybe panicking a little bit. Maybe
- 46:52Speaker 1: they're getting a little tight.
- 46:53Speaker 2: They see as soon as Josh.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Allen opened that game, I'm like, oh, this is gonna
- 46:59Speaker 1: look good for the Bruins. But you know, those are
- 47:01Speaker 1: the teams I see is obviously the Patriots most direct competition.
- 47:04Speaker 1: The Bill's looking to bounce back this year. They've got
- 47:06Speaker 1: a new head coach. What do you think the Bills need?
- 47:10Speaker 3: So I think the smart move to make is to
- 47:14Speaker 3: draft one of these edge rushers because they are thin
- 47:17Speaker 3: there and you know, I know they have Greg Russou
- 47:20Speaker 3: on one side, but the other side has kind of
- 47:21Speaker 3: been a little.
- 47:22Speaker 2: Bit more of a revolving door.
- 47:23Speaker 3: And I think defensively, it doesn't get talked about enough
- 47:27Speaker 3: how much of a step back they've taken on that side.
- 47:29Speaker 2: Of the ball.
- 47:30Speaker 3: And I think ultimately what decided McDermott's faith. I know
- 47:34Speaker 3: it's because he didn't win any playoff games, but I
- 47:38Speaker 3: think ultimately why they didn't win any playoff games was
- 47:41Speaker 3: just as much about the fact that they couldn't stop
- 47:42Speaker 3: anybody when it mattered versus Josh Allen and his issues
- 47:46Speaker 3: in playoff games.
- 47:47Speaker 2: So McDermott was a defensive coach. It was his system.
- 47:52Speaker 3: It went back a lot of years, all the way
- 47:54Speaker 3: back to Carolina, like over a decade plus of running
- 47:56Speaker 3: that same system in Carolina and Buffalo, and it kind
- 48:00Speaker 3: of fell apart talent wise for them on all three levels,
- 48:03Speaker 3: I would say defensively.
- 48:05Speaker 2: So Ed Rusher, I think is the one.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Just listening to some of the people in Buffalo, that's
- 48:09Speaker 3: like that's a smart pick, right, Like that's the you know,
- 48:12Speaker 3: head on your shoulders kind of pick. The pick that
- 48:15Speaker 3: is the classic Buffalo Bills pick is wide receiver because
- 48:19Speaker 3: you're just trying to make Josh Allen as operational as
- 48:23Speaker 3: possible and appease people when they say that Josh Allen
- 48:26Speaker 3: doesn't have enough, you know, around him in the passing game.
- 48:29Speaker 3: They certainly took a step back in their downfield passing
- 48:32Speaker 3: game last year. They were not a very prolific downfield
- 48:37Speaker 3: deep passing attacks. They didn't really have anybody to throw
- 48:40Speaker 3: to them, right, So you have Shakir, you have Kincaid,
- 48:43Speaker 3: You have knocks. Those guys are kind of second you know,
- 48:45Speaker 3: first and second level. Yeah, the Dj Moore trade is
- 48:50Speaker 3: sort of along the lines of trying to get somebody
- 48:53Speaker 3: that can win on the outside and down the field.
- 48:55Speaker 3: But I think that ultimately they come back and they
- 48:58Speaker 3: take one of these edge rushers. The Jets are also
- 49:01Speaker 3: really fascinating to me. I feel like they should probably
- 49:06Speaker 3: go David Bailey because to me, r Vel Reese is
- 49:10Speaker 3: a ball of clay. He is Is he a linebacker?
- 49:14Speaker 3: Is he an on the ball linebacker? Is he an
- 49:16Speaker 3: off the ball linebacker? Is he a pass rusher?
- 49:19Speaker 2: What is he?
- 49:20Speaker 3: And if I'm the Jets, I'm thinking a little bit
- 49:23Speaker 3: pessimistically here, like, are we one hundred percent sure.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Aaron Glenn is the guy?
- 49:28Speaker 3: And if we're gonna give him this developmental player that
- 49:30Speaker 3: we don't really know where he is gonna play, and
- 49:32Speaker 3: it's sort of a feeling out situation, and we're gonna
- 49:36Speaker 3: draft him with a plan in mind from one coach
- 49:39Speaker 3: and then a year from now we're gonna have a
- 49:40Speaker 3: totally different coach. You know, Is that really the best case?
- 49:44Speaker 3: Where David Bailey has been playing EDG rusher his whole life.
- 49:46Speaker 3: You put him out over the tackle and you know
- 49:48Speaker 3: he's gonna be able to play the position. So it's
- 49:50Speaker 3: definitely a simpler projection, and especially if you're not one
- 49:54Speaker 3: hundred percent sold on the coach, giving him a guy
- 49:56Speaker 3: like Rvel Reese feels like tenuous at best.
- 50:00Speaker 5: If you're the Jets and the Dolphins, you need to
- 50:02Speaker 5: draft an edge rusher because for those two you're playing
- 50:04Speaker 5: Josh Allen Drake May for the next minimum eight years.
- 50:07Speaker 5: If you're the Jets and the Dolphins, do not draft
- 50:10Speaker 5: Tie Simpson like you should, but I've just not really
- 50:13Speaker 5: sold on it when you got next year's draft class
- 50:15Speaker 5: or you're potentially getting on paper a better quarterback as
- 50:19Speaker 5: Evan said, like are you gonna draft Tie Simpson and
- 50:21Speaker 5: then Aaron Glenn's gone, and then you're kind of stuck
- 50:23Speaker 5: with a Josh Roseen situation, Like you don't want to
- 50:26Speaker 5: waste that pick.
- 50:27Speaker 1: He is Simpson gonna get you to a point where
- 50:29Speaker 1: just out of range of the better quarterbacks, but you know, yeah.
- 50:33Speaker 6: Serviceable that you can.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Like a Dolphin or Jets pick.
- 50:38Speaker 3: To me, no, I think the Jets are in full
- 50:40Speaker 3: you know, let's wait in for the twenty twenty seven
- 50:43Speaker 3: quarterback class and hope like Arch Manning or one of
- 50:45Speaker 3: those guys is falls.
- 50:46Speaker 2: To our lap.
- 50:48Speaker 3: The Dolphins, I think, kind of believe in Malik Willis.
- 50:50Speaker 3: I don't know if they should, but they kind of do.
- 50:52Speaker 6: They do.
- 50:53Speaker 3: It's like a bridgie thing though still yeah, obviously if
- 50:56Speaker 3: it doesn't, if it blows up in their face, then
- 50:57Speaker 3: they'll be at the top of the draft and they'll
- 50:59Speaker 3: be picking quarterback next year too. The team that feels
- 51:02Speaker 3: like the Ty Simpson team to me is the Cardinals. No, Like,
- 51:04Speaker 3: that's a team that I feel like, you know, they
- 51:07Speaker 3: have a Laflora now as their head coach, Like, if you.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Can you plug him into that system that all.
- 51:12Speaker 3: The you know, Shanahan Tree guys are running And is
- 51:15Speaker 3: he brock Purty, is he Jimmy Garoppolo? Is he just
- 51:18Speaker 3: the guy that's going to hit the right buttons and
- 51:20Speaker 3: get the ball where it needs to go?
- 51:21Speaker 5: But you're talking about the Cardinals, it could be the
- 51:22Speaker 5: same thing. They're probably gonna stink again next year and
- 51:25Speaker 5: then you're in another top ten situation you have Ty Simpson,
- 51:27Speaker 5: Are you literally going to do the same thing?
- 51:29Speaker 1: I mean, it's an interesting point, especially when you think
- 51:31Speaker 1: about our team is really gonna want to trade up
- 51:33Speaker 1: for him. That's been some of the speculation. I want
- 51:35Speaker 1: to get into the first round, get him with a
- 51:37Speaker 1: fifth year option. But I like what you're selling a
- 51:40Speaker 1: little bit better rather than expending capital now to get
- 51:43Speaker 1: them and then feeling like, well, we don't even know,
- 51:45Speaker 1: and let's face it, I don't even know if you'll
- 51:47Speaker 1: know next year with it, well, he might need a
- 51:48Speaker 1: couple of years.
- 51:49Speaker 5: That also being said, we talk about quarterbacks, look at
- 51:51Speaker 5: two years ago by saying Michael Pennix going in the
- 51:53Speaker 5: second and he went number nine something like that, yet
- 51:56Speaker 5: pretty high.
- 51:57Speaker 1: So nobody there is there that kind of pick this?
- 52:00Speaker 1: Hear you think, is there somebody? Because I've seen speculation
- 52:02Speaker 1: here today and this is of course we're all losing
- 52:04Speaker 1: our minds now. Having done this for a munthiple months,
- 52:07Speaker 1: you figured out every scenario and now you're coming up
- 52:10Speaker 1: with the ones that are the most ludicrous. But you
- 52:12Speaker 1: know it, is there a player this year you think
- 52:14Speaker 1: that somebody might fall in love with and just grab
- 52:16Speaker 1: I mean, maybe it is Simpson. Maybe somebody does love him.
- 52:19Speaker 2: I think for me, I think for me, he really
- 52:23Speaker 2: loves Simpson.
- 52:24Speaker 6: I'm gonna go a different angle with how you word
- 52:26Speaker 6: that question is and say, I feel like there's more
- 52:28Speaker 6: of a chance that a lot of these edge guys
- 52:30Speaker 6: that are in this draft.
- 52:32Speaker 1: I think there's I mean, like everybody that's just a
- 52:35Speaker 1: run on edge first round.
- 52:37Speaker 6: Yeah, like either that or some of the guys that
- 52:39Speaker 6: you were thinking might go early early in that like
- 52:42Speaker 6: top ten area. Maybe it's gonna be a different edge
- 52:45Speaker 6: rusher than we thought, you know what I mean something
- 52:47Speaker 6: like that. I think it's more likely that one.
- 52:49Speaker 3: I feel like we've gotten to a consensus with this draft.
- 52:52Speaker 3: It's a weird draft. There isn't a ton of blue
- 52:55Speaker 3: chip talent. There isn't a ton of quarterbacks other than Mendoza.
- 52:58Speaker 3: I feel like sure things, but like I there's a
- 53:01Speaker 3: long list, but I feel like there's probably, like I know,
- 53:03Speaker 3: the nine guys that are like the guys in this draft.
- 53:06Speaker 3: You know, Mendoza, Reese, Styles, Downs, Jeremiah Love, David Bailey,
- 53:14Speaker 3: Monsieur Delaine, who I think is just a stud at cornerback.
- 53:17Speaker 3: And then I'm biking on the last one. Of course,
- 53:20Speaker 3: I'll pull it up a second bin.
- 53:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:23Speaker 3: Ruben Bain and so I feel like those nine guys
- 53:26Speaker 3: are are going somewhere in the top ten. I don't know,
- 53:29Speaker 3: you know, obviously we know where Mendoza is going, but
- 53:31Speaker 3: other than him, I don't really know an order. But
- 53:33Speaker 3: I think those nine guys are going to go somewhere.
- 53:36Speaker 3: I think the wild cards in this draft to me
- 53:38Speaker 3: are guys like Jordan Tyson, Carnel Tait. Like, do those
- 53:41Speaker 3: guys you know, sneak into the top ten? Do they
- 53:43Speaker 3: go ten to the giants? You know, something like that.
- 53:46Speaker 3: And I would also mention the offensive lineman that everybody
- 53:49Speaker 3: says is gonna are gonna fly off the board, But
- 53:52Speaker 3: some of these offensive linemen have some weird quirks about them.
- 53:55Speaker 3: You know, Francis Milwauga's had a little bit of an
- 53:57Speaker 3: injury thing going on pre draft, and uh doesn't have
- 54:00Speaker 3: you know, it's a wider body, shorter build, you know,
- 54:03Speaker 3: in terms of his arm length and things like that.
- 54:05Speaker 3: So he's kind of like a little bit of a
- 54:08Speaker 3: tweeter between a garden right tackle. I would say, you know,
- 54:11Speaker 3: Spencer for no. I some people think he's gonna play center,
- 54:14Speaker 3: you know, like he's like one of those guys that
- 54:17Speaker 3: is like you know, no one really knows where he's
- 54:19Speaker 3: gonna end up on the line, but everybody likes him,
- 54:21Speaker 3: you know, Like, but no one really knows where he's
- 54:23Speaker 3: going to play. So, uh, when you hear those types
- 54:26Speaker 3: of things about tackles, it just doesn't feel like that's
- 54:29Speaker 3: like a top ten tackle, like your top ten tackle.
- 54:32Speaker 3: You know where he's going to play, you know, you
- 54:33Speaker 3: know what his skill set is and his body type
- 54:36Speaker 3: suggests and all that stuff. You know, I don't know
- 54:39Speaker 3: if you're going to pick a guy like Fano in
- 54:40Speaker 3: the top ten that it might actually be a center,
- 54:43Speaker 3: you know, Like I.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Don't know about that too soon. Yeah, all right, we
- 54:46Speaker 1: got five minutes left, guys. I want to have a
- 54:47Speaker 1: bold predictions here. There's only some bold predictions here on
- 54:50Speaker 1: this draft. This weekend can be anything. They're going to
- 54:52Speaker 1: select a position for Patriots. The Patriots only.
- 54:55Speaker 5: That's what we're getting. We're getting a Gonzo Askue thing
- 55:00Speaker 5: and we're trading up and taking Sadik. Wow, they said bold.
- 55:05Speaker 1: I mean I like it. We both kind of flirted
- 55:08Speaker 1: with that. It goes back to what I said, like
- 55:09Speaker 1: that second tight end, Like that's like.
- 55:11Speaker 5: If you like a guy and he's a couple of
- 55:12Speaker 5: picks ahead of you go get your guy.
- 55:14Speaker 3: So there are all these rumors about trading downs, trading up, don't.
- 55:20Speaker 1: Make any picks, they trade him on next year.
- 55:22Speaker 6: I do that, I would say for me, I mean,
- 55:27Speaker 6: my head's been selling it. I think in some way,
- 55:30Speaker 6: Casey conception.
- 55:31Speaker 4: Might fall to be a Patriot.
- 55:33Speaker 6: I do feel that way. I've been on him Tisa
- 55:35Speaker 6: and I've been talking about for a while. I think
- 55:37Speaker 6: as well, and I just think he's one of those guys.
- 55:41Speaker 6: If he falls, I think you just go with it.
- 55:43Speaker 6: I feel like he's the most well rounded receiver in
- 55:47Speaker 6: this draft as far as hands, speed, you know, rout ability,
- 55:52Speaker 6: just guy that can get off the ball and he's quick.
- 55:55Speaker 2: You know.
- 55:55Speaker 6: I'm just I'm kind of married to him in that
- 55:58Speaker 6: water shee resition.
- 55:59Speaker 1: I really love.
- 56:00Speaker 6: We would love to see Casey can concept you don't
- 56:02Speaker 6: be a Patriot.
- 56:03Speaker 2: That's a good one. I don't think trading out is
- 56:06Speaker 2: bold anymore.
- 56:08Speaker 3: Sent how about they trade out of the first round,
- 56:11Speaker 3: but then they trade back up from sixty three in
- 56:14Speaker 3: the second round and try to draft two guys in
- 56:16Speaker 3: like the top fifty range. You know, I feel like
- 56:18Speaker 3: there's gonna be a lot of maneuvering in the draft
- 56:21Speaker 3: like this, and I wonder if maybe they look at
- 56:23Speaker 3: it and say, let's take two bites at it, you know,
- 56:26Speaker 3: in that twenty five to fifty range instead of one,
- 56:29Speaker 3: and move around the board a little bit. If they
- 56:31Speaker 3: do trade down tonight, I hope that they get a
- 56:33Speaker 3: twenty twenty seven pick involved. I think you're gonna trade
- 56:36Speaker 3: a twenty twenty seven pick for a J. Brown, So
- 56:38Speaker 3: it'd be nice to get one back in that trade
- 56:40Speaker 3: to try to replenish the stock there.
- 56:42Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 56:43Speaker 3: But I am anticipating that the Patriots could be moving
- 56:46Speaker 3: around a little bit over the next couple of days.
- 56:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna go I don't know how both this is.
- 56:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna go defense, that they're gonna this is gonna
- 56:52Speaker 1: be a defense heavy draft, and that tomorrow there's gonna
- 56:55Speaker 1: be three picks, that two of them will be defensive
- 56:57Speaker 1: side of the ball, and that they're really going to
- 56:59Speaker 1: remake the color of this defense with some of their
- 57:01Speaker 1: some of their guys. I mean, that's when we were
- 57:03Speaker 1: in Indye for the combine, it was just anyone you
- 57:05Speaker 1: talk to you like, that's a that's a raable guy.
- 57:07Speaker 1: You know, you can tell the guys that play with
- 57:09Speaker 1: that kind of style. But otherwise, any any hopes for
- 57:11Speaker 1: tonight guys as we count down the last hopes we
- 57:15Speaker 1: got about eight hours.
- 57:16Speaker 5: I hope we get I hope we get a good
- 57:17Speaker 5: a good vet in a trade like yeah, like, I
- 57:20Speaker 5: don't know what's going to be.
- 57:22Speaker 4: It could have been no, no, like you know, not.
- 57:27Speaker 5: That it's pits, but somebody that can plug and play instantly.
- 57:30Speaker 5: You're giving you're giving up a pick, but you're getting
- 57:32Speaker 5: a Star Brown not named a J.
- 57:34Speaker 4: Brown.
- 57:35Speaker 1: What position?
- 57:35Speaker 4: I don't know?
- 57:38Speaker 1: Ho anything else?
- 57:39Speaker 2: Chris?
- 57:40Speaker 1: What do you got going tonight? Chris?
- 57:41Speaker 4: I need Max.
- 57:42Speaker 6: I am not sure to be a patriot.
- 57:44Speaker 4: I know what I want.
- 57:47Speaker 2: That's that's the bull, that's the bullet.
- 57:53Speaker 1: I can and I will.
- 57:56Speaker 3: Like to pick somebody because I think, you know, maybe
- 58:00Speaker 3: Campbell had some detractors, but at the end of the day,
- 58:02Speaker 3: everybody saw the vision and understood why and all that
- 58:04Speaker 3: kind of stuff. This has been a draft has been
- 58:07Speaker 3: a little bit more touchy, I would say, because they're
- 58:09Speaker 3: of where they're picking. You know, we get hit crap
- 58:12Speaker 3: for you know, being sold a little bit on Denzel Boston.
- 58:15Speaker 3: I also, you know, cash is Howl in the arm
- 58:17Speaker 3: length and we're doing that whole thing again.
- 58:19Speaker 2: So I just want all of you to be happy.
- 58:22Speaker 3: I just want all of us to be able to
- 58:24Speaker 3: sit here and say, yeah, we like that pick.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Last question just for like, is there that guy? Like
- 58:29Speaker 1: I feel like you could rattle off every single potential
- 58:32Speaker 1: Patriot pick at that position, and I can easily see
- 58:34Speaker 1: what we don't get that guy, you know, because somebody's
- 58:38Speaker 1: gonna make everybody happy.
- 58:39Speaker 3: Like I think Howl is a really good player, and
- 58:41Speaker 3: all I keep hearing is bust Like he used. That
- 58:44Speaker 3: guy's gonna be like why because his arms are half
- 58:46Speaker 3: an inch like shorter than you want them to be.
- 58:48Speaker 5: Like, come on, think about all the busts that we've
- 58:50Speaker 5: had here, Like is it that bad?
- 58:53Speaker 1: And look all these guys that we're talking and we're
- 58:55Speaker 1: looking right now with like the top town of Dania
- 58:57Speaker 1: Joe Remia is final, Like a bunch of these guys
- 58:59Speaker 1: are gonna be bus As much as we're pumping every
- 59:01Speaker 1: single one of these first rounders up, there's gonna be
- 59:03Speaker 1: a large number of these guys that don't work.
- 59:05Speaker 3: There's there's two guys maybe three, but if we want
- 59:08Speaker 3: to count Mendoza, Styles and Jeremiah Love are not going
- 59:11Speaker 3: to be bused. Like those are the two guys that
- 59:13Speaker 3: I feel really good about that are going to be
- 59:14Speaker 3: great players in the league. But yeah, like, let's just
- 59:17Speaker 3: pick somebody that you know we can all get behind.
- 59:20Speaker 3: I think if there are a couple of lightning rods
- 59:23Speaker 3: in this draft, I think Denzel Boston is certainly one
- 59:25Speaker 3: of them, and I think Howell's kind of the other
- 59:27Speaker 3: guy that like, because of the measuables, because of the
- 59:30Speaker 3: athletic profile, people just like don't want anything to do
- 59:33Speaker 3: with them, and I okay, so let's just go a
- 59:34Speaker 3: different direction.
- 59:36Speaker 6: I think a big thing is if if you can
- 59:37Speaker 6: get the guy off the board and the consensus of
- 59:41Speaker 6: people can say, all right.
- 59:44Speaker 1: I see the motion, Yeah all right, I want the
- 59:46Speaker 1: Patriots scout the guy with the Twitter. People think, yeah, okay,
- 59:52Speaker 1: but I have to deal with the Twitter.
- 59:55Speaker 3: You are?
- 59:55Speaker 1: You are? Oh boy? Well that's going to do it
- 59:57Speaker 1: for another season. Patriots Draft count Down presented by Bud Light.
