- 0:09Speaker 1: What's up, everybody? Welcome back to another episode of Bucko Territory.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm Platinum Key, aka Mark. Joining me, as always, is
- 0:16Speaker 1: my co-host, Josh Harrison. Usually Noah Hiles would be sitting
- 0:20Speaker 1: here as well with us, but he's on his way
- 0:22Speaker 1: back from Paris covering the Steelers in the Paris game
- 0:25Speaker 1: for the NFL. So Noah will be rejoining the show
- 0:29Speaker 1: on Thursday, so glad to have him back. But today,
- 0:32Speaker 1: you see the episode of the show, you see the thumbnail.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We're going to be going through some of our best
- 0:37Speaker 1: moments here on Bucko Territory.
- 0:41Speaker 2: So, yeah, man, it's crazy to think that we're pretty
- 0:44Speaker 2: much almost a year into this. Time has flown. And, man,
- 0:48Speaker 2: for the subscribers, thank you. For those, this may be
- 0:51Speaker 2: your first time watching. Excited for the show. It's definitely
- 0:55Speaker 2: a snapshot of, you know, some of our most memorable
- 0:58Speaker 2: or favorite moments. So thanks for the support. And as
- 1:01Speaker 2: we said, if this is your first time, it's been
- 1:04Speaker 2: a nice little episode to watch to kind of see
- 1:06Speaker 2: what the show is about and, you know, how myself,
- 1:09Speaker 2: Platinum Key, aka Mark, and Noah, you know, how we
- 1:12Speaker 2: go about, you know, handling Bucko Territory. So once again,
- 1:15Speaker 2: thank you and excited for you all to catch this episode.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Yeah, appreciate everyone who's tuned in, whether this is your
- 1:21Speaker 1: first or if you watch every single one, really appreciate
- 1:24Speaker 1: all the support. We have a ton of fun doing this,
- 1:27Speaker 1: as you guys are about to see. So sit back, relax,
- 1:29Speaker 1: and enjoy some of the best moments of year one
- 1:31Speaker 1: of Bucko Territory.
- 1:34Speaker 3: What's up, everybody?
- 1:35Speaker 4: Welcome to the first ever episode of Bucko Territory on
- 1:39Speaker 4: the Foul Territory Network. My name is Noah Hiles from
- 1:43Speaker 4: the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. I want to introduce my two co-hosts
- 1:46Speaker 4: on this program now.
- 1:48Speaker 3: First guy... I think you all recognize that face.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Josh Harrison, former pirates, all-star infielder Jay Hay is on
- 1:56Speaker 4: the program and maybe try to get him on some length. Obviously, Josh,
- 2:00Speaker 4: they haven't signed a multi-year free agent since you were
- 2:03Speaker 4: still in a pirates uniform. So I think there it's
- 2:06Speaker 4: time to break that stigma.
- 2:08Speaker 5: It's yes.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Yvonne Nova was the last multi-year free agent. Yeah.
- 2:12Speaker 1: 2017.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Well, thank you for our clip there. Thank you for
- 2:17Speaker 3: our podcast clip there.
- 2:19Speaker 6: I mean, yeah. Speechless this time.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Yes.
- 2:24Speaker 1: It's something.
- 2:26Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Offensive woes.
- 2:27Speaker 4: The Pirates, they stink against left-handed pitching.
- 2:30Speaker 3: And boy, oh boy, did they really stink up the
- 2:32Speaker 3: joint yesterday.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Eight strikeouts in a row against the Brewers starter.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Kyle Harrison.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Yeah, Kyle Harrison. Not my cousin.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Not related, believe it or not, to Josh. That was
- 2:46Speaker 3: a hell of a line there, Josh. Well done. And
- 2:50Speaker 3: alongside him is Mark, a.k.a. Platinum Key.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I don't even want to call you Mark, Mark. We're
- 2:56Speaker 4: just going to call you Platinum Key.
- 2:58Speaker 6: I think, honestly, just like mindset. Before we get too far,
- 3:02Speaker 6: do you like Platinum?
- 3:03Speaker 5: Do you like Key, Mr.
- 3:04Speaker 6: Platinum?
- 3:04Speaker 1: Platinum, Key, whatever, Mark. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Mr.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Platinum is for you.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Mr.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Platinum, I'll keep it for you. Let's go.
- 3:12Speaker 6: Let's go.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw Noah's tweet. That was
- 3:16Speaker 1: pretty funny. I have a podcast with two of these people.
- 3:21Speaker 4: It's your baseball reference page and Mark looking like an
- 3:23Speaker 4: idiot in a coat.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Along the field, and sometimes somebody would want you to
- 3:31Speaker 2: sign a baby. People ask some features on, but I'm like,
- 3:41Speaker 2: babies are some of the most like fragile things to
- 3:45Speaker 2: where like the smallest thing can make them sick. I'm like, man,
- 3:48Speaker 2: I'm not trying to, I said, I'm not trying to
- 3:50Speaker 2: have you sue me for giving your baby like lip
- 3:53Speaker 2: or Mark, you know what I mean? Like not being funny,
- 3:55Speaker 2: but I don't want to sign. And they'd be like, man,
- 3:57Speaker 2: Josh Harrison signed that baby on a stomach or the forehead.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And now the baby's got, you know, like sick. Like
- 4:02Speaker 2: I wasn't going to be that one. So I would,
- 4:05Speaker 2: anytime they asked and I got asked to sign a
- 4:07Speaker 2: couple of babies and I was like, you know what?
- 4:09Speaker 2: I'll take a picture. I can hold your kid. But
- 4:11Speaker 2: at the same time, you know, We made a lot
- 4:13Speaker 2: of people. I wasn't trying to pass germs from people.
- 4:16Speaker 2: But yeah, you're not about to sue me.
- 4:19Speaker 1: That's such a relatable experience. Noah and I, we've been
- 4:23Speaker 1: asked to sign babies too.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Dude, I'm so glad I asked that follow-up question.
- 4:30Speaker 3: And then real quick, the other one I'll throw out.
- 4:33Speaker 3: The realistic one.
- 4:34Speaker 4: This is a trade I would love to see them
- 4:37Speaker 4: actually make and I think is realistic. This is my
- 4:39Speaker 4: favorite name in baseball, Lake Bakker. Uh, he's a middle
- 4:43Speaker 4: inning reliever for the Miami Marlins. Um, just as solid
- 4:47Speaker 4: as they come. So Lake Walker, if it happens, you
- 4:51Speaker 4: heard it here first. I will take the most nauseating.
- 4:59Speaker 1: You'll be watching this on Noah's Twitter right now.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Oh, I'll be, I'll be calling everyone I know in
- 5:04Speaker 4: that front office being like, I deserve some kick. Yep.
- 5:07Speaker 1: You guys got this from me. It's just so you did.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 3: And, and, I want to be abundantly clear.
- 5:12Speaker 4: I have not talked to anyone in any baseball organization
- 5:15Speaker 4: ever about Lake Bakker.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I have never had one conversation. I just watched him
- 5:20Speaker 3: pitch against the Pirates last year on opening day.
- 5:22Speaker 4: And I said, that name rules. And I look into
- 5:25Speaker 4: him and I can't get him out of my mind.
- 5:27Speaker 4: He's just my favorite player that no one else talks
- 5:29Speaker 4: about in baseball. Go get Lake Bacher.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Forget Jose Soriano.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Forget Senzatella or Willie Castro or Jeffers.
- 5:36Speaker 3: This is the Lake Bacher episode.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Yes.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Perfect.
- 5:40Speaker 6: You got a name. All right.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yeah, buddy.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Mic drop. Wet.
- 5:48Speaker 6: Kobe.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Listen.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Turn it to the Lake Bacher episode.
- 5:54Speaker 3: And overall, it's just. It's just funny. It's just funny.
- 5:58Speaker 4: I'm not flexing my muscles saying, I do think I
- 6:01Speaker 4: know a decent amount about Major League Baseball.
- 6:04Speaker 3: This is just a shot in the dark.
- 6:07Speaker 4: It's no different than anyone who watches this show who
- 6:12Speaker 4: comments their trade deadline targets.
- 6:15Speaker 3: But, I mean, this was a sicko pull. This was
- 6:17Speaker 3: a sicko pull on my end.
- 6:19Speaker 6: And, man, it's just great.
- 6:21Speaker 3: It feels like when you pick the 16 seed to
- 6:23Speaker 3: win in March Madness.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Yes.
- 6:24Speaker 3: That's what that feels like for me.
- 6:26Speaker 4: But in reality, all jokes aside, all Noah Heil's victory
- 6:31Speaker 4: lap put to the side here, this was a really
- 6:34Speaker 4: good addition.
- 6:34Speaker 3: For the Pirates.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I absolutely love this move, not just because Lake Bakker
- 6:39Speaker 1: is an awesome name that looks really cool. And it's
- 6:42Speaker 1: a sicko poll for my podcast co-host here, which by
- 6:46Speaker 1: the way, just like, it's one thing to nail like
- 6:49Speaker 1: a trade prediction. Like I'd like, this is a trade target.
- 6:51Speaker 1: The part you get, Hey, they actually went out and
- 6:53Speaker 1: got them. That's cool. It's another thing when that guy
- 6:55Speaker 1: is Lake freaking Bacher, a guy who I had never
- 6:58Speaker 1: heard of. I think we mentioned on the episode, like
- 7:00Speaker 1: 500 people listening to this, probably one is might know
- 7:05Speaker 1: him and they're lying. Like, Yeah, no, it's just insane,
- 7:08Speaker 1: insane pull. So yeah, major, major props, Noah. But yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 1: it also helps this bullpen out a ton. So I
- 7:14Speaker 1: love the move, yeah.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Josh, when you look over these two guys, McNeil's a
- 7:18Speaker 4: little bit more expensive. Lau probably comes with a higher
- 7:22Speaker 4: price tag, though, as far as a trade.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Chip, who do you think makes more sense for the
- 7:28Speaker 3: Pirates and why?
- 7:31Speaker 6: I think both of them are two different players.
- 7:34Speaker 2: To me personally, I think Brandon Lyle would make a
- 7:37Speaker 2: little bit more sense talking about, you know, some pop
- 7:40Speaker 2: from the left side, which is what the Pirates are
- 7:42Speaker 2: looking for. Somebody to man second base and provide that,
- 7:46Speaker 2: you know, feared hitter, you know, somewhat that can drive
- 7:50Speaker 2: and runs, you know, early, you know, middle part of
- 7:52Speaker 2: the order. But I would think that his price tag
- 7:56Speaker 2: via trade would be a little bit more expensive.
- 7:58Speaker 3: So, Mark, I'll ask you what what's the most you're
- 8:01Speaker 3: willing to give up? For Brandon Lau.
- 8:03Speaker 4: You look, I mean, I think the price tag's pretty
- 8:06Speaker 4: clear on a guy like this. A similar player, similar contract,
- 8:10Speaker 4: just got moved. Yep.
- 8:11Speaker 3: This month.
- 8:12Speaker 1: This is the Taylor Ward. Yeah, Grayson Rodriguez.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Grayson Rodriguez.
- 8:17Speaker 4: So what is an overpay for the Pirates, and what
- 8:20Speaker 4: is a fair trade, in your opinion?
- 8:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think an overpay is when you
- 8:25Speaker 1: start getting into the young, controllable talent. Obviously, like, I
- 8:30Speaker 1: think a Bubba Chandler is way too much for one
- 8:33Speaker 1: year of Brandon Lau. But as you start moving down
- 8:37Speaker 1: that pitcher list, maybe a Braxton Ashcraft or a Mike Burrows.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I don't know if that would get the Rays to jump,
- 8:45Speaker 1: but they're also trying to shrink their budget this offseason.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Mark, hit the sirens.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Breaking news, trade alert. The Pirates make another big move here.
- 8:55Speaker 4: In December, they acquire Brandon Lau, Jake Mangum, and Mason
- 9:01Speaker 4: Montgomery in a three-team trade.
- 9:04Speaker 3: And all they gave up, Mark, is Mike Burrows.
- 9:08Speaker 4: I have a lot of analysis on this deal, but
- 9:12Speaker 4: I know the fan in you has to be going
- 9:14Speaker 4: absolute nuts right now because it seems like they got
- 9:18Speaker 4: a lot for only giving up one picker.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I let out a huge, like, woo, right as soon
- 9:25Speaker 1: as I saw, like, Ken Rosenthal, like, the Pirates are
- 9:27Speaker 1: getting close, like, rubbing my hands together, like, come on,
- 9:29Speaker 1: come on, make this happen. And once we saw that
- 9:32Speaker 1: it's been confirmed, pending medicals. Yeah, I mean, this is
- 9:36Speaker 1: so exciting. This is exactly what we've been begging the
- 9:39Speaker 1: Pirates to do. We've been saying, hey, Brandon Lau's right there.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Go get him. And look at that. They did it. So, yeah,
- 9:46Speaker 1: I'm ecstatic. The excitement level is palpable, and it feels
- 9:49Speaker 1: like this team's a lot closer than they were just
- 9:52Speaker 1: a few hours ago.
- 9:53Speaker 4: The other part of this return is also intriguing. Montgomery,
- 9:56Speaker 4: he seems to be the bigger throw-in of.
- 10:00Speaker 3: The three, I would say. But at the end of
- 10:02Speaker 3: the day, Mark, I mean, this is a guy, he's
- 10:03Speaker 3: a left-hander whose fastball sits 100. The Pirates.
- 10:06Speaker 4: He's got something to work with.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and the Pirates do well with these types of guys.
- 10:12Speaker 4: They have a really good pitching group who will now
- 10:16Speaker 4: look to maximize this guy.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, the fastball.
- 10:19Speaker 4: The fastball velo per baseball savant is in the 97th percentile,
- 10:24Speaker 4: as is the whiff rate. The K rate is in
- 10:27Speaker 4: the 90th percentile. Chase rate at 83rd percentile. So the
- 10:31Speaker 4: stuff is clearly nasty.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Now that the pirate season is over, I've been trying
- 10:41Speaker 1: to get out of the house and go to other
- 10:42Speaker 1: live events. And the sponsor of today's video, SeatGeek, has
- 10:45Speaker 1: helped me do exactly that. Not only does SeatGeek offer
- 10:48Speaker 1: great prices, but it helps me discover live events in
- 10:51Speaker 1: my area, including concerts, sports, festivals, and more. So Josh,
- 10:55Speaker 1: what can the people of Pittsburgh look forward to here
- 10:58Speaker 1: coming up on SeatGeek in the next week here?
- 11:02Speaker 2: Oh man, they got a big matchup on November 1st,
- 11:04Speaker 2: Cleveland Browns versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 11:07Speaker 6: It's going down.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Um, you can go on SeatGeek, get in prices, $ 199 and, uh,
- 11:13Speaker 2: You want to look at green dots, avoid the red
- 11:15Speaker 2: dots as you're looking through that. So big matchup November 1st,
- 11:20Speaker 2: Cleveland Browns versus Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Akershire Stadium, Heinz Field. It's going to be rocking. So
- 11:25Speaker 1: make sure you go to SeatGeek and get yourself some tickets.
- 11:29Speaker 1: And of course, I have a code for you all.
- 11:30Speaker 1: You can use code TERRITORY10 for 10% off your next
- 11:33Speaker 1: set of tickets at SeatGeek. That's 10% off all tickets
- 11:37Speaker 1: with promo code TERRITORY10. Make sure you click the link
- 11:40Speaker 1: in the description to download the app and have the
- 11:42Speaker 1: code automatically added to your account so you can use
- 11:44Speaker 1: it later. Thank you to SeatGeek.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I'm a firm believer that their biggest move has to
- 11:51Speaker 4: still be on the way. If O'Hearn or Lau are
- 11:56Speaker 4: your biggest move, those are big moves in comparison to
- 11:59Speaker 4: the ones that you made.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Over the last five, six off seasons.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Right, for the Pirates. Right, right.
- 12:04Speaker 4: But yeah, but that's not enough to begin with.
- 12:07Speaker 1: For a playoff team, no.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it made them better, no doubt.
- 12:10Speaker 4: But if they're... In my eyes, they really still haven't
- 12:14Speaker 4: backed their rhetoric. This is the same exact rhetoric that
- 12:18Speaker 4: came from Jorge Polanco.
- 12:19Speaker 3: It's, yeah, this.
- 12:21Speaker 4: This team is clearly the most interested in me, but
- 12:24Speaker 4: is there anyone else?
- 12:25Speaker 3: Anyone else who wants me? Anyone better?
- 12:28Speaker 2: Cool.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I mean, I can go to prom with the six,
- 12:31Speaker 3: but is there any seven or eight?
- 12:33Speaker 6: There's a couple still out there.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Right, exactly, yes.
- 12:40Speaker 4: My other point is, and it goes back to what
- 12:42Speaker 4: we said, I think it was like the second episode
- 12:45Speaker 4: of this show, is like what Josh kind of alluded to,
- 12:50Speaker 4: you can do it, you want to do it, then
- 12:52Speaker 4: do it. There's a difference between wanting to do something
- 12:55Speaker 4: and just going out and doing it. To me, that reporting,
- 13:01Speaker 4: which is identical between two competitive outlets, I'm just going
- 13:07Speaker 4: to leave it there. tells me that the Pirates wanted
- 13:11Speaker 4: a certain message out there. And to me, that message
- 13:15Speaker 4: is nonsense. You did not want him enough. Because if
- 13:18Speaker 4: you did, you would have found a way to get him.
- 13:21Speaker 4: You didn't want him enough. Because you know what's better
- 13:23Speaker 4: than playing a great American ballpark for $ 15 million?
- 13:27Speaker 3: Playing somewhere else for $ 20 million.
- 13:30Speaker 4: If your whole argument is our offer was as good
- 13:33Speaker 4: as the other guys, then you don't even understand the problem.
- 13:37Speaker 4: And that is what's most frustrating for me as someone
- 13:39Speaker 4: who's covered this team.
- 13:41Speaker 3: And the most frustrating, I'm sure for fans like Mark,
- 13:44Speaker 3: and even for players.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Who've played for them, like Josh is you don't even
- 13:48Speaker 4: recognize the problem that you don't get to just try
- 13:51Speaker 4: as hard as everybody else. You have to try harder.
- 13:54Speaker 4: You're a small market team and you don't win. So
- 13:58Speaker 4: you're going to have to work extra hard. And if
- 14:00Speaker 4: you're not willing to do that, don't make excuses. Just
- 14:04Speaker 4: shut up and take your L. But now we're going
- 14:08Speaker 4: to see the same old comments about the Pirates.
- 14:11Speaker 3: And guess what? They deserve it. And now your only
- 14:14Speaker 3: hope to get.
- 14:15Speaker 4: That to go away is that this same payroll.
- 14:21Speaker 3: I agree.
- 14:22Speaker 4: They're a better team than last year, but you better
- 14:24Speaker 4: hope they stay healthy because there's just not a lot
- 14:26Speaker 4: of depth offensively. to get through 162 game season without
- 14:29Speaker 4: one of these bats. So, but before we get into
- 14:31Speaker 4: the big picture, just want to get your instant thoughts
- 14:34Speaker 4: on this signing.
- 14:35Speaker 3: We'll start with Mark.
- 14:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Uh, my first thought is, so I guess Andrew McCutcheon
- 14:41Speaker 1: is not going to be a pirate this year. Um,
- 14:44Speaker 1: that was my first initial thought. And I mean, it's,
- 14:47Speaker 1: it's nice having some power, uh, but I'm concerned about
- 14:50Speaker 1: as soon as 35 is, is he going to continue
- 14:54Speaker 1: to decline? Um, So that's kind of my next thought. Yeah,
- 14:57Speaker 1: so I mean, I think this is a different Pirates
- 15:00Speaker 1: team than the past few seasons. The Pirates teams that
- 15:03Speaker 1: kept Paul Skeens in the minors, that kept Bubba Chandler
- 15:06Speaker 1: in the minors. This is a team that's trying to win,
- 15:09Speaker 1: that's committed to win. They've spent on winning this whole offseason.
- 15:13Speaker 1: So everything to me is pointing at they're expecting Connor
- 15:17Speaker 1: Griffin to be their opening day shortstop.
- 15:19Speaker 4: And before we get into this year's World Baseball Classic team,
- 15:22Speaker 4: I want to talk about, you know, This show's favorite
- 15:26Speaker 4: player in World Baseball Classic history.
- 15:28Speaker 3: This guy right here, Josh Harrison. Josh, what team were
- 15:31Speaker 3: you on? Was that 2016?
- 15:33Speaker 5: 17.
- 15:35Speaker 3: 2017, right. That was my senior year of college. I
- 15:39Speaker 3: remember watching. You guys won it that year, right?
- 15:41Speaker 5: Wow, man.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, we won it that year. I mean, part
- 15:46Speaker 2: of history. Only team to win it.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Yes.
- 15:49Speaker 6: To this day, we still go down in history. We're
- 15:54Speaker 6: the only U.S. team to win it.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I think if you're ready to do it, you'll see
- 15:59Speaker 2: that with an extension. I don't think it's anything that
- 16:02Speaker 2: they'll just be like, oh, you're going to be the
- 16:04Speaker 2: shortstop and that's that. If they're going to do it early,
- 16:06Speaker 2: I think we would see an extension. Commit to it.
- 16:10Speaker 2: If you're going to commit to it, you might as
- 16:11Speaker 2: well commit to it that way because other teams have
- 16:14Speaker 2: done it with their prospects that aren't quite Connor Griffin,
- 16:17Speaker 2: just speaking. My second part of the hey now is, uh,
- 16:22Speaker 2: I think, I don't think I can go without this
- 16:24Speaker 2: show without highlighting, uh, my boy Kutch, uh, signing with
- 16:27Speaker 2: the Rangers. Um, I think we all kind of saw,
- 16:30Speaker 2: you know, the writings on the wall there you see is,
- 16:32Speaker 2: you know, got the little horse in the background, got
- 16:34Speaker 2: the cowboy hat.
- 16:36Speaker 6: Um, you know, happy for my boy excited.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I know at this point, man, you just want an
- 16:39Speaker 2: opportunity and, uh, you know, might not get that opportunity
- 16:42Speaker 2: in Pittsburgh, but, uh, I think we all, as I said,
- 16:44Speaker 2: we all saw the writings on the walls.
- 16:46Speaker 4: And Jay Hay, a.k.a. the newest member of the Hall
- 16:50Speaker 4: of Pretty Good. That is how we're starting today's show.
- 16:54Speaker 4: We actually have another surprise guest joining the show. It
- 16:58Speaker 4: is the commissioner of the Hall of Pretty Good. On
- 17:02Speaker 4: to officially congratulate.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Josh. Mr.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Hall of Pretty Good, please introduce yourself.
- 17:12Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm... My name is Bryce Whitlow. I run the
- 17:15Speaker 7: Hall of Pretty Good social media accounts, just like you said.
- 17:18Speaker 7: And Josh, I just wanted to take a second and
- 17:21Speaker 7: congratulate you on being the 35th member of the illustrious
- 17:25Speaker 7: Hall of Pretty Good. 81% of over 35,000 votes.
- 17:29Speaker 6: That's huge. How does it feel to be inducted into
- 17:32Speaker 6: the Hall of Pretty Good? Oh, man, it's an honor, man.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Appreciate, you know, I think I saw the tweet said
- 17:39Speaker 2: I was the first pirate as well.
- 17:41Speaker 6: So definitely honored.
- 17:44Speaker 2: You know, when I saw Noah's tweet saying I can
- 17:45Speaker 2: tell somebody that I'm a co-host with, you know, that's
- 17:47Speaker 2: what made me spark off like, hold on, what happened?
- 17:51Speaker 6: And, you know, it was one of those things where
- 17:52Speaker 6: I read and I thought, man, that's pretty cool.
- 17:54Speaker 2: You know, accolades continue to come even when you're not
- 17:57Speaker 2: looking for them, you know, no matter how big, how small.
- 18:00Speaker 6: Grateful for all of it.
- 18:01Speaker 4: And then final rapid fire question. Favorite Uber driver you
- 18:04Speaker 4: had in the year 2018? Oh, Noah flipping Hiles, baby.
- 18:12Speaker 8: What i was going to spring training because i'm not
- 18:17Speaker 8: leaving my car at the airport for six weeks so
- 18:20Speaker 8: i would just take an uber to the airport if
- 18:22Speaker 8: many of my people can't take me and that day
- 18:25Speaker 8: i couldn't and i'm like no i'm like wait a
- 18:29Speaker 8: minute noah the writer i'm like what's up man dude
- 18:34Speaker 8: took me.
- 18:34Speaker 4: To the airport 2018 I remember that that was, that
- 18:39Speaker 4: was early in the career days when, you know, I
- 18:41Speaker 4: had to do a little something, something on the side
- 18:43Speaker 4: to get by. And I remember picking you up thinking like,
- 18:46Speaker 4: oh man, I don't want to see another writer reporter
- 18:49Speaker 4: kind of seeing me doing this, but.
- 18:51Speaker 3: It was kind of cool.
- 18:52Speaker 4: I got, I got like my first exclusive Robbie experience
- 18:56Speaker 4: in that car ride from your house down to the
- 18:58Speaker 4: airport and everything.
- 18:59Speaker 3: And that's, um, you know, gave me some career advice,
- 19:01Speaker 3: career advice.
- 19:02Speaker 4: And it's kind of surreal now to, to have you
- 19:04Speaker 4: on the show and see how things come full circle.
- 19:08Speaker 6: Life is crazy, isn't it? Real question, did he give
- 19:11Speaker 6: you five stars?
- 19:13Speaker 3: He sure did. He tipped, too.
- 19:14Speaker 4: I remember when I dropped him off at the airport,
- 19:19Speaker 4: he goes, he said something like, well, now I have
- 19:22Speaker 4: to tip you, well, because you know everyone I know.
- 19:26Speaker 9: If you were in my position, kind of going into
- 19:28Speaker 9: spring training, got a lot on my mind. There's so
- 19:32Speaker 9: many rumors about open day roster, when I'm going to.
- 19:35Speaker 5: Get called up.
- 19:36Speaker 9: What's a little piece of advice you got for me
- 19:38Speaker 9: just to kind of go into spring training and kind
- 19:41Speaker 9: of focus on, you know, just taking it one day
- 19:43Speaker 9: at a time? Like, what's the best way to go
- 19:45Speaker 9: about that?
- 19:46Speaker 5: Uh just with so much noise going on on the
- 19:48Speaker 5: outside right now it's.
- 19:50Speaker 2: A really good question um and my answer to you
- 19:53Speaker 2: is be true to yourself and granted you're only 19
- 19:55Speaker 2: years old um you're still learning uh no matter how
- 19:58Speaker 2: old how old you are you're gonna still be learning
- 20:00Speaker 2: but um for three years after making my debut i
- 20:04Speaker 2: was fighting for the 25th man spot um You know,
- 20:07Speaker 2: and what did I have to do every spring? I
- 20:09Speaker 2: had to stay true to who I was, showing up
- 20:11Speaker 2: and being who I was, not that I was going
- 20:13Speaker 2: to be any different.
- 20:14Speaker 6: But at the end of the day, I just had
- 20:17Speaker 6: to prove myself right.
- 20:18Speaker 2: And even if proving myself right meant I had to
- 20:20Speaker 2: go to AAA, that didn't mean that the door was closed.
- 20:23Speaker 2: It just meant that the timing wasn't right. But, you know,
- 20:27Speaker 2: needless to say, I made the team every year out
- 20:30Speaker 2: of camp. But that's just one of those things where
- 20:32Speaker 2: there's always going to be pressure, whether you're playing well,
- 20:35Speaker 2: whether you're not. Stay true to yourself and enjoy the process, man.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Pick the brains of those that are there to help you.
- 20:47Speaker 2: We will meet in person. I'm going to speak it
- 20:51Speaker 2: into fruition.
- 20:52Speaker 6: You said hopefully we will make it happen. Yes, sir.
- 20:56Speaker 5: Let's do it.
- 20:56Speaker 9: Maybe you can teach me how to get out of
- 20:58Speaker 9: some rundowns.
- 21:00Speaker 6: Hey, trust me, you're already halfway there playing multiple sports.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Multi-sport athlete. I saw, like, alley-oops. I saw a couple
- 21:08Speaker 1: football highlights, and I just wanted to pull one up
- 21:10Speaker 1: really quick and have you watch it with us here.
- 21:13Speaker 1: You may be familiar with this, but apparently Randy Moss
- 21:20Speaker 1: thinks you're a pretty good football player as well. This
- 21:24Speaker 1: is your freshman year, I believe.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Yep.
- 21:27Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right.
- 21:28Speaker 1: If you could just walk us through it, what was
- 21:30Speaker 1: it like having Randy Moss talk about you on ESPN
- 21:33Speaker 1: as a freshman in high school?
- 21:36Speaker 5: Yeah, that was crazy.
- 21:38Speaker 9: I love football. I love playing receiver. Just kind of
- 21:42Speaker 9: throw it up to me, let me try to go
- 21:43Speaker 9: catch it. That was some fun times, and I remember
- 21:47Speaker 9: that game. Catching that pass was pretty cool, but I
- 21:50Speaker 9: didn't think it would end up on ESPN.
- 21:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:53Speaker 9: Randy Moss talking about it, so that was pretty cool,
- 21:56Speaker 9: but I give a lot of credit to playing multiple
- 21:59Speaker 9: sports when I was younger, I think it kind of
- 22:00Speaker 9: built the athlete that I am. And, uh, I still
- 22:03Speaker 9: try to run routes in all seasons, just, uh, keeping
- 22:06Speaker 9: the athleticism.
- 22:07Speaker 6: So football may have.
- 22:08Speaker 1: To go, uh, catch some passes for, uh, Paul Skeens
- 22:10Speaker 1: when he's warming up once you're up in Pittsburgh. Uh,
- 22:13Speaker 1: that's right.
- 22:15Speaker 9: I have been in a group chat talking with Mike Trout.
- 22:18Speaker 9: So I, it's hard not to say Mike Trout.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Yeah, that's pretty good.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Well, that's awesome.
- 22:23Speaker 5: Yeah. So that was pretty cool.
- 22:24Speaker 9: He's, he's big into cards and, We were kind of
- 22:28Speaker 9: talking about making a double card where I sign it
- 22:30Speaker 9: and he signs it.
- 22:31Speaker 5: So that could be pretty cool. Wow.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Someone will retire off of that card.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, you just you're going to pay
- 22:39Speaker 4: for about eight college educations with that card.
- 22:41Speaker 3: So thank you in advance.
- 22:43Speaker 6: Yeah, no doubt.
- 22:44Speaker 10: I mean, I'm not going to roll up in there
- 22:46Speaker 10: like giving speeches like, hey, I'm the guy listening to
- 22:48Speaker 10: me talk.
- 22:49Speaker 6: But, you know, I'm I'm.
- 22:51Speaker 10: Want to help out and, you know, build relationships with
- 22:54Speaker 10: all the guys as much as possible. Um, if I
- 22:57Speaker 10: feel like something needs to be said, I have no
- 22:58Speaker 10: problem saying it. Like you said, we've, uh, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 10: seen a lot of baseball and you kind of seen how,
- 23:04Speaker 10: you know, good, uh, leaders work and how maybe not
- 23:08Speaker 10: so good leaders work. And, um, you know, if I
- 23:11Speaker 10: feel like I'm, there's something that needs to be said,
- 23:14Speaker 10: like I said, I'll, I'll say it. I, uh, I
- 23:17Speaker 10: don't really consider myself like the most vocal leader.
- 23:20Speaker 6: Um, but You know, there's a time and a place.
- 23:23Speaker 11: It wouldn't be the same place without the fans. So
- 23:25Speaker 11: it always starts with the fans. And remembering that I
- 23:30Speaker 11: was a fan first. When I was a kid, I
- 23:32Speaker 11: was a fan. Sure, I played t-ball, baseball, kid pitch baseball,
- 23:37Speaker 11: all that stuff. But like going back to day one,
- 23:40Speaker 11: I was a fan. And I just remember as a kid,
- 23:44Speaker 11: like I thought it was the coolest thing ever whenever
- 23:46Speaker 11: players would come up and sign my baseball and, you know,
- 23:50Speaker 11: sign a bat I had. taking time out of their
- 23:53Speaker 11: day to say hello and thank me for being here.
- 23:56Speaker 5: That stuff meant a lot to me.
- 23:58Speaker 11: And I just always said when I was a kid that,
- 24:01Speaker 11: you know, if I ever get the opportunity to do that,
- 24:03Speaker 11: I'm going to try to be a light.
- 24:04Speaker 2: But I'm going to tell you, 29 ain't old, man.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Back when I was playing, which wasn't long ago.
- 24:09Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 24:11Speaker 6: 29 is considered your prime. Literally, 29 is considered your prime.
- 24:14Speaker 5: Thank you, man.
- 24:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 2: And you speak like a guy, as you say, at
- 24:18Speaker 2: an age where you understand– not only yourself, how you move,
- 24:22Speaker 2: what you need to improve on. And these are things
- 24:25Speaker 2: that a culture you speak about. I can remember my
- 24:29Speaker 2: time in Pittsburgh. That was part of our culture was
- 24:33Speaker 2: we knew what our strengths were as a team individually,
- 24:36Speaker 2: and we knew how to build off of that and
- 24:38Speaker 2: play off of each other's strengths. Being a bullpen guy,
- 24:41Speaker 2: you probably don't know. When I played with the Pirates,
- 24:45Speaker 2: our bullpen was called the Shark Tank.
- 24:47Speaker 5: Okay.
- 24:48Speaker 6: Okay, yeah. You know I was part of the Shark Tank, right?
- 24:52Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 24:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, too many.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Apparently too many games.
- 24:58Speaker 6: That's why I was a part of the Shark Tank.
- 24:59Speaker 6: Had a shirt and everything.
- 25:01Speaker 12: The routine going into the game, I don't know.
- 25:04Speaker 6: It's developed over the years. I think in 24, I
- 25:08Speaker 6: definitely started doing it in AAA.
- 25:10Speaker 12: But got a good friend, Brandon Marsh, with the Phillies. B.
- 25:14Speaker 6: Marsh, that's my dog.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Hey, we played together with the Phillies.
- 25:18Speaker 6: Hey, that's enough. That's all you got to say. Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 12: I played with him in the Angels organization coming up,
- 25:27Speaker 12: and that is something that he has kind of had
- 25:30Speaker 12: as a staple, where he'll just dump that water on
- 25:33Speaker 12: his head.
- 25:34Speaker 5: And when it's ice cold, yeah.
- 25:36Speaker 6: When it's ice cold, it gets you going. So I
- 25:41Speaker 6: got to tip my cap.
- 25:42Speaker 5: That's where I got it from.
- 25:43Speaker 6: I'm going to be honest.
- 25:45Speaker 13: Like Aaron Rodgers, good example, with football. I modeled my
- 25:48Speaker 13: entire game after Aaron Rodgers on the football field.
- 25:50Speaker 5: That's fair.
- 25:51Speaker 1: My guy.
- 25:52Speaker 13: You know, like love A-Rod, hope to meet him one day.
- 25:55Speaker 13: But like everything I did on the football field, I
- 25:58Speaker 13: watched taped Aaron Rodgers. And on the basketball court, you know, look, man,
- 26:04Speaker 13: I broke my elbow.
- 26:05Speaker 6: I couldn't shoot.
- 26:06Speaker 13: You know, that was my excuse that I couldn't shoot.
- 26:09Speaker 13: I couldn't shoot in general, but I did break my elbow,
- 26:11Speaker 13: so I couldn't extend it. And, but Larry Bird could shoot.
- 26:15Speaker 13: But everything else Larry Bird did, just gritty as hell,
- 26:18Speaker 13: just got nasty, talked a lot of crap.
- 26:20Speaker 6: Like, that was me.
- 26:21Speaker 13: Like, I was a good basketball player, but I'd elbow
- 26:25Speaker 13: you in the face before I let you get a
- 26:27Speaker 13: rebound over me. And, you know, that's kind of how
- 26:30Speaker 13: Larry Bird.
- 26:32Speaker 3: You were Deli.
- 26:34Speaker 6: No, what's the dude that went to Duke? What's the
- 26:36Speaker 6: dude that went to Duke?
- 26:37Speaker 3: Oh, Grayson Allen.
- 26:38Speaker 6: Hey, Delva, Delva.
- 26:41Speaker 1: That man made like $ 80 million.
- 26:43Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. Yeah, you'll take that. Giving black eyes. Yeah,
- 26:49Speaker 6: hell yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I punched him in the mouth before, you know. When
- 26:54Speaker 1: was the first time that you met Joey Bart? And
- 26:57Speaker 1: can you tell us the story behind that?
- 27:01Speaker 6: Yeah, gosh.
- 27:02Speaker 13: I mean, I've known Joey since, I mean, I can remember.
- 27:07Speaker 13: My granddad, I actually just had dinner with my granddad
- 27:11Speaker 13: a couple of days ago. And I swear we talked,
- 27:13Speaker 13: talked about Joey probably 75% of the time. And he was,
- 27:18Speaker 13: he was just like, how's Bart doing? Like, he's good.
- 27:21Speaker 13: He goes, how's it going to be this year? It's like,
- 27:25Speaker 13: it's going to be good. Grandpa, like, no, he's a
- 27:29Speaker 13: good player, but yeah, Joey used to fish at my
- 27:32Speaker 13: granddad's pond at his house pretty much his whole life. And, yeah,
- 27:38Speaker 13: you know, Joey was a big-time name in high school.
- 27:40Speaker 13: Then when he went to Tech, you know, second overall pick. Like,
- 27:43Speaker 13: he's always been a big name around the area. When
- 27:46Speaker 13: I got older and realized, you know, kind of who
- 27:48Speaker 13: he was and, you know, everything, my grandfather didn't know
- 27:51Speaker 13: a dang thing about it. But he was like, yeah, Joey,
- 27:55Speaker 13: good kid, likes to fish, uses my pond. Not that,
- 28:00Speaker 13: you know, second overall pick and it'll be draft.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Right, yeah.
- 28:05Speaker 13: Yeah, it's known Joey a long time. And we're like,
- 28:08Speaker 13: you know, I got my feet wet, you know, in
- 28:10Speaker 13: this game. Like, you know, we got Joey coming up next.
- 28:13Speaker 13: Let's blow his doors. Like, he can't hit me. Like,
- 28:16Speaker 13: there's no chance this guy can hit me. He ended
- 28:18Speaker 13: up hitting me pretty far, pretty hard.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 28:21Speaker 6: Who cares?
- 28:22Speaker 13: And I think after that, like, ended up putting together
- 28:24Speaker 13: a pretty good outing. Got Freddie Freeman out twice. You know,
- 28:27Speaker 13: does he care?
- 28:28Speaker 14: Not at all.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Did I care?
- 28:29Speaker 6: Oh, yeah. Fired up about it. Of course. Got to
- 28:32Speaker 6: take all those wins.
- 28:35Speaker 11: Oh, I was, yeah.
- 28:36Speaker 13: I mean, he, yeah, he doesn't know my name, but
- 28:39Speaker 13: I tell you one thing.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I was fired up.
- 28:41Speaker 6: Trust me, he knows you.
- 28:42Speaker 5: Trust me.
- 28:43Speaker 6: I was fired up. Trust me, you're a big leaguer
- 28:45Speaker 6: and you got him out twice. He know your name.
- 28:47Speaker 5: All right.
- 28:48Speaker 6: All right. Hell yeah. Let me make sure my phone on.
- 28:51Speaker 6: Do not disturb. People that need to call me, either
- 28:54Speaker 6: on practice or upstairs, so I'm good.
- 28:56Speaker 5: You're good at laughing.
- 28:58Speaker 14: My parents' text is Harley Quinn, Josh, so sometimes I
- 29:02Speaker 14: have it really loud and it's like, I'm.
- 29:06Speaker 5: Like in the wrong place.
- 29:07Speaker 6: Everybody's like, what the hell was that?
- 29:09Speaker 5: My wife, dude. That's my wife.
- 29:15Speaker 6: I bet. What you saying, eh?
- 29:18Speaker 5: JJ, what you saying?
- 29:20Speaker 6: Good to see you, man.
- 29:21Speaker 5: I brought that wiffle ball up to them. I brought
- 29:23Speaker 5: that wiffle ball up to them earlier. I was like, bro,
- 29:26Speaker 5: I was getting tanks off the TVs.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Until Josh came up and then I went over, but
- 29:32Speaker 2: What they don't know is we're talking about rain delays.
- 29:35Speaker 2: We used to be in a locker room and AJ
- 29:38Speaker 2: had to hit left-handed and position players got a chance
- 29:41Speaker 2: to pitch.
- 29:42Speaker 6: That's probably why I pitched so well when I got
- 29:43Speaker 6: a chance to pitch.
- 29:46Speaker 2: But the slow deuce, the slow deuce.
- 29:50Speaker 5: Couldn't hit it, dude. I hit everything but that. Good times,
- 29:53Speaker 5: wasn't it, man?
- 29:55Speaker 14: The winning culture is built on the field and in
- 29:58Speaker 14: the clubhouse.
- 29:58Speaker 5: We all know that.
- 30:00Speaker 14: But they're going to respect you when you go out
- 30:02Speaker 14: there and you just compete day in and day out
- 30:06Speaker 14: at 100%.
- 30:07Speaker 5: And if you get your ass handed to you, guess what?
- 30:09Speaker 5: I'm going to come out tomorrow. I'm going to compete 100%
- 30:12Speaker 5: day in and day out. And that's what we did.
- 30:14Speaker 5: And that's what they saw, I think, Jay.
- 30:16Speaker 14: And that's why we had to see a black in
- 30:17Speaker 14: the playoffs because they were proud because we went out
- 30:20Speaker 14: there and just competed and didn't take no shit from nobody.
- 30:24Speaker 2: But he's like, man, we want to bring you back
- 30:25Speaker 2: to where the family can come back. And I'll just
- 30:27Speaker 2: honor you and, you know, retire you as a pirate.
- 30:30Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, wow, man. You know, as
- 30:32Speaker 2: I said in the article, it wasn't anything that I
- 30:36Speaker 2: was like, oh, I want to retire a pirate because,
- 30:37Speaker 2: you know, I want to if something like that was
- 30:39Speaker 2: to happen, I would want it to be, you know,
- 30:41Speaker 2: natural and organic. And it wasn't like a planned meeting
- 30:44Speaker 2: underneath the tunnel with Bob. It was just I happened
- 30:46Speaker 2: to be under the tunnel right before the game. And
- 30:49Speaker 2: the conversation just happened. And Mark was actually right there.
- 30:52Speaker 2: But Mark wasn't like eavesdropping.
- 30:54Speaker 6: He couldn't hear.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Talk about feeling like you don't belong in a conversation, Josh,
- 31:00Speaker 1: when you and Bob Nutting ran into each other in
- 31:03Speaker 1: the back hallway and I'm following you around with a camera.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I'm just like, I'm going to drift away slowly because
- 31:08Speaker 1: this is not a conversation I belong in. But that
- 31:11Speaker 1: was pretty awesome to see. And, yeah, I'm really looking
- 31:15Speaker 1: forward to August 7th and 8th here.
- 31:18Speaker 4: I just got to say, as someone who grew up
- 31:20Speaker 4: playing baseball– Around the same time as both of those guys,
- 31:24Speaker 4: it's really cool to see how the.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Game has grown.
- 31:27Speaker 4: And really, since Josh's teams started winning baseball games in
- 31:34Speaker 4: the city of Pittsburgh, you saw that resurgence in the
- 31:38Speaker 4: baseball community. And now you see guys like Mason Miller
- 31:42Speaker 4: and David Bednar impacting the game on a world stage.
- 31:45Speaker 4: And I think that that's a credit to, you know,
- 31:48Speaker 4: what the Pirates did when we were growing up.
- 31:50Speaker 5: So.
- 31:51Speaker 3: hat tip to you, Josh, I guess.
- 31:53Speaker 6: Thank you. You know, trying to represent for the answers.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I mean, if you look at the box score tonight,
- 31:59Speaker 1: 6.1 innings of this game were pitched by Pittsburgh adjacent
- 32:04Speaker 1: pitchers with six strikeouts. I mean, David Bednar had two strikeouts,
- 32:09Speaker 1: got himself out of a jam. Mason Miller got the
- 32:12Speaker 1: save with two strikeouts. I'll be at the one at
- 32:14Speaker 1: the end may have been a little questionable, but we
- 32:17Speaker 1: can get into that later. But I mean, it's so cool.
- 32:20Speaker 1: for the city to just see so much representation on
- 32:25Speaker 1: a world stage, not just a national stage, a world stage.
- 32:28Speaker 1: And it just goes to show Pittsburgh's a baseball town.
- 32:31Speaker 6: The headset. Yeah.
- 32:32Speaker 14: You're, you're a media guy now, Jay.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Hey, you're doing the podcast.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Buckle territory, uh, under the foul territory network. And, uh,
- 32:40Speaker 2: you know, it keeps me in the game, allows me to,
- 32:42Speaker 2: you know, see from a little different lens around, you know,
- 32:44Speaker 2: my schedule with my wife and kids.
- 32:46Speaker 14: Pajas takes a strike.
- 32:48Speaker 6: It's 1-1.
- 32:48Speaker 14: Josh Harrison in the broadcast booth with us in a
- 32:51Speaker 14: 2-1 ball game. Did you ever think you'd get into
- 32:54Speaker 14: the media end of it?
- 32:55Speaker 6: I'm not surprised. Your personality. I don't know if you're surprised.
- 32:59Speaker 2: I wouldn't say yes or no, but I had always
- 33:01Speaker 2: been told that I, you know, people are like, man,
- 33:03Speaker 2: I think you'd be good for it. And it's not
- 33:05Speaker 2: anything that I was set out to do because, you know,
- 33:07Speaker 2: I like to do things natural. And if it happened,
- 33:09Speaker 2: you know, I want to be as authentic as possible. So,
- 33:13Speaker 2: you know, I would never say I would rule it
- 33:14Speaker 2: out because, you know, it's... I don't mind talking the
- 33:17Speaker 2: game and interacting.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Any final thoughts, Mark?
- 33:21Speaker 1: I saw on Twitter just before we hopped on to
- 33:24Speaker 1: record tonight that the Pirates added a cone to the dugout.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I'm very, very excited to see how that gets hoisted
- 33:30Speaker 1: and under what circumstances and hopefully soon. So what about you?
- 33:36Speaker 4: I'm really glad that this whole cone thing didn't happen
- 33:39Speaker 4: when I was in college because as someone who, you know,
- 33:43Speaker 4: might've happened to find one laying around on my way
- 33:45Speaker 4: back from the bar when I was, you know, a
- 33:48Speaker 4: younger lad and took it back to the fraternity house.
- 33:51Speaker 3: This is incentivizing that type of behavior.
- 33:53Speaker 4: And I don't think that was the intended, but I
- 33:57Speaker 4: think there are going to be a lot of students
- 33:59Speaker 4: at Pitt point park, Robert Morris, all the ones.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Are going to be a tough commodity to find.
- 34:05Speaker 3: School for the summer. Yeah. The cones are mayor, mayor O'Connor.
- 34:11Speaker 5: Get the people ready.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Might want to double the cone budget.
- 34:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:14Speaker 1: The Buccos are about to get hot. They're going to
- 34:15Speaker 1: get hoisted.
- 34:16Speaker 3: We're going to get some money around because the cones,
- 34:19Speaker 3: they're coming for us.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Heisted and hoisted, yep.
- 34:22Speaker 3: We'll wrap it up there.
- 34:24Speaker 2: I'm looking at O'Neal Cruz like, man, this dude is
- 34:26Speaker 2: like six, seven.
- 34:28Speaker 6: Yeah. Funny story.
- 34:30Speaker 2: We were playing them in Clearwater, and I was playing
- 34:33Speaker 2: shortstop this game for the Phillies, and O'Neal was.
- 34:36Speaker 6: Playing shortstop for the Pirates.
- 34:38Speaker 2: My mom and my aunt are at the game and
- 34:41Speaker 2: this person doesn't know that she's my mom.
- 34:44Speaker 6: And, you know, they're like, man, their shortstop.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Is so tall and ours is over here like Kevin Hart.
- 34:51Speaker 2: And my mom goes, that's my son. And they go,
- 34:54Speaker 2: oh no, no, he can play though.
- 34:56Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 34:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:57Speaker 1: But the perspective of just where we've come from the
- 34:59Speaker 1: last few years, I mean, when Connor Griffin did his
- 35:02Speaker 1: debut video with the, like looking down up into the camera,
- 35:05Speaker 1: it reminded me of, when the pirates hyped up signing
- 35:08Speaker 1: Vince Velasquez in 2022, where that was their big signing
- 35:12Speaker 1: at off season. And that was the big social media
- 35:15Speaker 1: post for like their big debut of that year. Now
- 35:18Speaker 1: we have a generational 19 year old shortstop, number one
- 35:22Speaker 1: prospect in baseball in that video. And we have a
- 35:25Speaker 1: Cy Young pitcher who just got a win over the
- 35:27Speaker 1: Cincinnati Reds the day before. It's a completely, completely different
- 35:31Speaker 1: feel as a fan base. And I'm so excited to
- 35:34Speaker 1: get to PNC Park and just experience it myself this weekend.
- 35:37Speaker 2: You're going to see Connor be able to come up
- 35:39Speaker 2: and give that. And not only him give that, I
- 35:41Speaker 2: think the guys will feel it from the crowd, from
- 35:43Speaker 2: the fans. And I think that in itself is enough
- 35:47Speaker 2: as to why it's going to be special because Pittsburgh
- 35:49Speaker 2: is a special place to play.
- 35:50Speaker 6: And it's been a while. And rightfully so, it's been
- 35:53Speaker 6: a long time coming. So let's go.
- 35:56Speaker 2: It can make it somewhat easier in ways once you
- 35:58Speaker 2: start to build that momentum because it's like, okay, this
- 36:01Speaker 2: is a place that is starting to be appealing.
- 36:03Speaker 6: Look at what they're doing.
- 36:04Speaker 2: And they've already kind of created that kind of wave
- 36:07Speaker 2: and that marked this offseason heading to, you know, now
- 36:09Speaker 2: with this, you know, extension of Connor. So it's a
- 36:13Speaker 2: little bit of both. And I think that's just going
- 36:15Speaker 2: to be dependent on how the rest of this season
- 36:17Speaker 2: plays out. Because obviously, you know, we've spoken on the
- 36:21Speaker 2: podcast about, you know.
- 36:23Speaker 6: The additions that they've made this offseason, how they're already
- 36:25Speaker 6: making an impact. And, you know, that's already been seen
- 36:28Speaker 6: around baseball. So, They continue to do what they're doing.
- 36:32Speaker 2: It's going to make Pittsburgh appealing, which, you know, it's
- 36:35Speaker 2: one of those cities that should always be appealing because
- 36:37Speaker 2: it's an amazing sports town.
- 36:39Speaker 6: As a fan.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:42Speaker 6: What is this feeling like?
- 36:43Speaker 2: You know, because as players, we know what it's like
- 36:44Speaker 2: when you but but as a fan, especially when it
- 36:47Speaker 2: hasn't really been much to cheer for, you know, in
- 36:50Speaker 2: so many years to hear something like, oh, the Pirates
- 36:53Speaker 2: have signed, you know, largest extension to a, you know,
- 36:56Speaker 2: prospect like what what what was going through your head?
- 36:59Speaker 1: It's surreal. Yeah. I, I, I pinched myself. Like, am I,
- 37:03Speaker 1: did I oversleep?
- 37:05Speaker 6: Is this a dream?
- 37:05Speaker 1: Like it, it's crazy. I even knowing that it was coming,
- 37:10Speaker 1: it still is, feels so surreal. Like I was trying
- 37:13Speaker 1: to mentally prepare myself for like, all right, the pirates
- 37:15Speaker 1: are going to sign a superstar for the next decade.
- 37:19Speaker 1: And yeah, like we have our own Sidney Crosby, the
- 37:21Speaker 1: own Ben Roethlisberger, like a face of this team. That's
- 37:24Speaker 1: going to be here.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:25Speaker 1: We have Paul schemes, but we all know he's going
- 37:28Speaker 1: to be way out of a price range of not
- 37:30Speaker 1: just the pirates, a lot of baseball teams in the
- 37:33Speaker 1: current market. I don't think the pirates have 50 million
- 37:36Speaker 1: that they can give to one guy. And that's probably
- 37:39Speaker 1: what it's going to take. So having that kind of
- 37:42Speaker 1: like now negated, like, all right, we might lose schemes
- 37:45Speaker 1: down the road. Maybe who knows after the CBA, who knows? Uh,
- 37:49Speaker 1: but at least now you have a superstar face of
- 37:53Speaker 1: the franchise. Like kids can go out and get a
- 37:56Speaker 1: Connor Griffin Jersey and confidently wear it to the ballpark
- 37:59Speaker 1: for the next decade. Um, and that's a great feeling
- 38:02Speaker 1: as a fan and the pirates really haven't had a
- 38:04Speaker 1: lot of that.
- 38:05Speaker 4: But Carmen Majinski, I mean, he's solid, but he's not
- 38:08Speaker 4: one of the best pitchers in the planet, especially in
- 38:10Speaker 4: this organization.
- 38:11Speaker 3: So you don't have that luxury.
- 38:13Speaker 4: So you can act like this and that's fine and
- 38:15Speaker 4: you might get what you want. It might not look
- 38:17Speaker 4: exactly how you pictured it. But you're not– this isn't
- 38:23Speaker 4: the only team who knows that he can be a
- 38:26Speaker 4: pain in the ass.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Word spreads around baseball very quickly.
- 38:31Speaker 1: It's pretty public now too.
- 38:34Speaker 3: And now by doing it now– it's public. This was
- 38:37Speaker 3: a big story and this is going to be talked about.
- 38:39Speaker 3: This went viral.
- 38:40Speaker 4: I mean, his, his clip Thursday after the game went viral.
- 38:44Speaker 4: And this was, this was the pirates won. The pirates
- 38:46Speaker 4: scored like 27 runs this weekend. No one's talking about that.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Cause they're talking about this.
- 38:52Speaker 6: And you got to put your pride to the side, man.
- 38:55Speaker 6: It's not like you got option down.
- 38:56Speaker 2: You still got an opportunity to go out there and
- 38:59Speaker 2: help this team win ball games. And I think that's
- 39:01Speaker 2: what you see is as they're expecting them possibly to
- 39:04Speaker 2: be back. But, um, You know, this is drama that
- 39:06Speaker 2: this team doesn't need, especially with everything that's going on.
- 39:10Speaker 4: 17-year-old Noah would have been pissed if I didn't ask
- 39:12Speaker 4: you this. Tell the story behind the sit the F
- 39:17Speaker 4: down moment.
- 39:19Speaker 6: Behind the what?
- 39:21Speaker 3: Yeah, S-T-F-U. The sit the F down to Hanley Ramirez.
- 39:27Speaker 5: I didn't know that these guys do stuff when they
- 39:32Speaker 5: hit homers now. I don't pay attention to that kind
- 39:35Speaker 5: of crap.
- 39:35Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 39:36Speaker 14: I see this dude around second. He's like, he's doing something.
- 39:42Speaker 5: He's doing something. I'm like, what is this, man?
- 39:47Speaker 14: It just fired me up and then I think I
- 39:52Speaker 14: might have been down 2-0 on him or something. I
- 39:54Speaker 14: can't remember, but I was just fired up. I just
- 39:56Speaker 14: wanted to punch his ticket so bad. And after the game,
- 39:59Speaker 14: I realized that wasn't even toward me.
- 40:01Speaker 5: He was just doing his thing because he hit a homer.
- 40:04Speaker 14: And I was like, dang. And I threw a couple pitches,
- 40:08Speaker 14: and I threw one right down the middle. He called
- 40:10Speaker 14: a strike, and he was like, I was like, oh, no,
- 40:12Speaker 14: you did not just question that one, dude.
- 40:14Speaker 5: No, no, no.
- 40:15Speaker 14: So I think it was a 3-2 hook and I
- 40:17Speaker 14: got him and then he immediately drops the bat down
- 40:19Speaker 14: and starts complaining about, I guess, the other pitches.
- 40:22Speaker 5: And I was just like, man, just go sit the
- 40:24Speaker 5: fuck down and shut up, man. Just go.
- 40:26Speaker 6: You know?
- 40:27Speaker 14: And I've said that a million times in my career,
- 40:29Speaker 14: maybe not that vocal or that obvious, but I was
- 40:34Speaker 14: done with it, dude.
- 40:35Speaker 5: I was like, just go. I'm tired of seeing you
- 40:37Speaker 5: up here. Just go.
- 40:38Speaker 3: So we'll see.
- 40:40Speaker 2: So you say we'll probably see him Saturday night, but
- 40:42Speaker 2: you know what I'd like to see?
- 40:43Speaker 6: Oh, here it comes.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Everybody hit that subscribe button.
- 40:46Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Look at that.

- 41:00Speaker 2: you subscribe. We're on our way to 3K. You know,
- 41:03Speaker 2: give something to help with that final push. And to

- 41:12Speaker 2: but we'd love for you to push that subscribe button
- 41:14Speaker 2: to get.
- 41:15Speaker 5: Us to 3,000.

- 41:19Speaker 3: We're on the same wavelength. Go ahead.
- 41:21Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 41:22Speaker 3: And it can be over by the end of this
- 41:24Speaker 3: week if you don't wake up.
- 41:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I was about to say, it can happen fast
- 41:27Speaker 6: if you don't, yeah.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Yeah, so.
- 41:30Speaker 4: You know, it's not over is this show. We're going

- 41:36Speaker 4: So hit that subscribe button. If you want to come
- 41:38Speaker 4: here for some bucko therapy or, you know, maybe some
- 41:41Speaker 4: platinum key positivity while the sky is falling around him.

- 41:51Speaker 4: make some additions as well to our subscriber count. So
- 41:54Speaker 4: we need you to step up and help us out.

- 42:00Speaker 5: Yeah, go ahead and subscribe and give the guy some love.
- 42:04Speaker 6: Definitely makes you wonder what if.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. You know, it's something I wonder.
- 42:12Speaker 6: Oh, my God.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Just put the thing on the screen.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Put it on the screen.

- 42:22Speaker 6: I was going to say. What if you hit that

- 42:30Speaker 4: to the Bucko Territory team store. We're all tripping over
- 42:33Speaker 4: each other like an Aaron Rodgers fumble trying to get
- 42:37Speaker 4: off of a creative little transition.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Golly, that was gross. Guys, any final thoughts?
- 42:47Speaker 4: Putting the ball in play paid for them headphones, huh, Drew?
- 42:51Speaker 2: Putting the ball in play paid for these headphones, but
- 42:55Speaker 2: something that you don't have to pay for is hitting that.
- 42:59Speaker 6: I'd love to follow up.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Look at this guy.
- 43:04Speaker 6: Go ahead and hit that subscribe button.
