- 0:16Hey, hey, chill.
- 0:17Let's go.
- 0:38What is going on, everybody?
- 0:39Welcome to the Clydesdale Media Podcast.
- 0:42My name is Scott Switzer.
- 0:43I'm so glad for you to be here.
- 0:44Normally, we do lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 0:47Today,
- 0:47we are interrupting that series to
- 0:49do a podcast and to learn
- 0:52about what is Metfix.
- 0:53So I have with me today...
- 0:56the head of Metfix Education, Pete Shaw,
- 0:59two-time CrossFit Games athlete,
- 1:01long-time seminar staff member,
- 1:04affiliate owner too, correct,
- 1:06or just worked in the field?
- 1:08No, former CrossFit affiliate owner.
- 1:10Yeah,
- 1:10currently coach at a CrossFit affiliate,
- 1:14and I run a Metfix program
- 1:15out of there as well.
- 1:16Okay.
- 1:18Awesome.
- 1:19So we're going to learn about MythFix.
- 1:21Ever since it's been
- 1:22announced that Greg and
- 1:25Emily were going to put this together,
- 1:27there's been a lot of
- 1:27anticipation about what it is.
- 1:30Then it's released,
- 1:31and there's been a lot of
- 1:32questions ever since.
- 1:33So I'm hoping that today's
- 1:35podcast answers a lot of
- 1:37questions for everybody and
- 1:39lets them know what exactly MedFix is,
- 1:41what it can do,
- 1:42how it works together with CrossFit,
- 1:45or is it competing with CrossFit?
- 1:46We've had those questions out there.
- 1:49So I'm going to give you
- 1:52where I am in my education of MedFix,
- 1:55and I want you to
- 1:56straighten me out today.
- 1:58First of all, I'm here with an open mind.
- 2:00I'm here to hear what you
- 2:01guys have to say.
- 2:04Two,
- 2:04I think that my interpretation of what
- 2:07it is is we were promised
- 2:08that there was this
- 2:10non-compete that Greg had,
- 2:12and once it was over,
- 2:14he was going to come out
- 2:14with something to help the
- 2:16world through metabolic
- 2:18issues in health and science.
- 2:22He did that.
- 2:24A lot of it is based on what
- 2:25he did through CrossFit.
- 2:28He is looking at this now as
- 2:31that CrossFit has lost its North Star.
- 2:34met fix is to straighten all
- 2:36that out and get back to
- 2:38the basics just like a ball
- 2:40player who can't hit
- 2:40anymore you got to get back
- 2:42to the roots of of
- 2:43everything and he's trying
- 2:45to put a little bit extra
- 2:46on top uh that he's learned
- 2:49in the time since he
- 2:50developed all of this and
- 2:52he likes to call it the
- 2:53cream on his cake um we
- 2:55call it icing here in ohio but um
- 3:00And so that's kind of where
- 3:01I am with it all.
- 3:02It is very much based on the
- 3:04teachings he has taught all
- 3:06of us CrossFitters for years.
- 3:09And now he has learned a
- 3:10little bit more that he
- 3:11wants to add to that.
- 3:13But he also wants to
- 3:14straighten us out because
- 3:16we've strayed away from
- 3:17those basic teachings to something else.
- 3:20So I am a CrossFit L-One.
- 3:23I've been this,
- 3:24I'm in my tenth year as being an L-One.
- 3:26I've coached in a gym.
- 3:30And then I gave that up to
- 3:31do this media thing.
- 3:33But I still keep my L-I active.
- 3:35I've been a judge at competitions.
- 3:37I've done a lot of things like that.
- 3:39So that is my background.
- 3:40Plus,
- 3:41I was five hundred pounds when I
- 3:42started CrossFit in two thousand eleven.
- 3:44Lost two hundred and fifty pounds.
- 3:46Got off all of the medicines I was on.
- 3:49And so the basic teachings
- 3:52of Greg Glassman saved my life.
- 3:54Congratulations on all that stuff.
- 3:56Holding your L-I and
- 3:59the weight loss and success story.
- 4:00It's incredible.
- 4:03So that's where I am.
- 4:05I want you to straighten me out.
- 4:07So let's first talk about
- 4:10what happened when Greg sold CrossFit.
- 4:13He signed a non-compete.
- 4:15Yeah.
- 4:15Him and Emily said,
- 4:18when that non-compete is done,
- 4:19we are coming out with something.
- 4:23Take us from there to the
- 4:24beginning of this story.
- 4:26Yeah.
- 4:26So you're totally right on that.
- 4:29And, and that was a great, uh,
- 4:31first of all, that whole spiel there,
- 4:32that's a great perspective on it.
- 4:34There's some nuance in there for sure that,
- 4:37you know, we can talk about and tease out,
- 4:39but for the most part,
- 4:41you've got a handle on things for sure.
- 4:43And yeah, Greg did, uh,
- 4:46and before we go on,
- 4:47I should thank you for
- 4:48having me on Scott.
- 4:48Thank you so much.
- 4:49I really appreciate you
- 4:50taking the time to have you
- 4:51on the podcast.
- 4:52Um,
- 4:54So Greg's non-compete ended and I mean,
- 4:59For me personally, I'm not a legal expert,
- 5:03but if a hundred percent
- 5:06there's carry over from
- 5:07CrossFit to Metfix,
- 5:08we're not trying to deny that.
- 5:13Greg still holds the rights
- 5:15to all his writings.
- 5:16He still holds the rights to
- 5:18his speeches and his videos,
- 5:20and it wouldn't make sense
- 5:21to continue something
- 5:22without those as well.
- 5:25You know,
- 5:25although CrossFit retains the
- 5:27right to use those in a
- 5:28commercial sense in perpetuity, you know,
- 5:31Greg personally still owns that material.
- 5:33And and.
- 5:36Of course, legally, I'm not a lawyer.
- 5:39There's there's some nuance there that it.
- 5:43was necessary to wait until
- 5:46that non-compete was over,
- 5:48until anything that even
- 5:50remotely looked like Greg
- 5:51was digging into his own
- 5:52material was gonna be formulated.
- 5:55So here we are, we've got Metfix.
- 5:57And the intent is certainly to build on
- 6:01would already exist.
- 6:05It's not to step on that stuff.
- 6:08Like you said,
- 6:08I'm a former level one and
- 6:11level two Flowmaster.
- 6:14I recently resigned from
- 6:16CrossFit to do this job,
- 6:18but I would have loved to keep doing it.
- 6:21But it's not just the
- 6:24situation's not letting me do that.
- 6:25But those are nearly perfect courses.
- 6:32Those are nearly perfect courses,
- 6:33the level one and the level two.
- 6:34You took your level one.
- 6:36Anyone who goes to those
- 6:37courses has their mind blown.
- 6:40But you're restricted in two
- 6:43days with what you can learn.
- 6:46You're highly restricted.
- 6:47There's a time limit on things.
- 6:48There's only so much
- 6:49material you can cover.
- 6:52The level one's focused on Greg's kernel,
- 6:56his original methodology.
- 6:57And
- 6:58It focuses heavily on movement.
- 7:01That's the reality of it.
- 7:02Because if you're going to
- 7:03open up a gym and go into training,
- 7:06you need to be able to do that stuff.
- 7:09And then there's one lecture on nutrition,
- 7:13right?
- 7:15You remember that?
- 7:16And that's still the way
- 7:17that- From the first time I
- 7:18took it to the second time I took it,
- 7:19that changed greatly,
- 7:22the nutrition piece.
- 7:24Yeah, the lecture,
- 7:24you mean the lecture itself?
- 7:26Correct.
- 7:27Yeah,
- 7:27but not in terms of how much is being
- 7:30covered.
- 7:30It was still a single lecture, right?
- 7:31Correct.
- 7:32But some of the content was
- 7:35massaged and how it was
- 7:37delivered maybe slightly differently.
- 7:39But in terms of the proportion of content,
- 7:42it's still a single lecture.
- 7:47Since you've taken the dive into the L-One,
- 7:48you guys have what is a
- 7:50two-day foundations seminar, right?
- 7:54Am I correct on that?
- 7:55At MedFix?
- 7:56Yes.
- 7:57Yes.
- 7:57Yeah, exactly.
- 7:58Yeah.
- 7:59And so, so at MedFix, the, the, when,
- 8:02so I w I was brought in, uh,
- 8:03to take the curriculum that,
- 8:06that Greg and Emily and Bob,
- 8:07I don't know if you know who Bob is,
- 8:09but obviously everyone
- 8:10knows who Greg and Emily are.
- 8:11They're fifty-fifty in, in the company.
- 8:13And, you know, Emily's got, uh, you know,
- 8:16an incredible background in
- 8:17her own right.
- 8:18She's, you know, she's a,
- 8:20a journalist by trade.
- 8:21She worked for ABC and all
- 8:23these different high news companies.
- 8:26But but she also her and her husband,
- 8:28they own a chain of gyms in Boston.
- 8:30And she's a serial entrepreneur,
- 8:32has her hands in a bunch of stuff.
- 8:34But she's run many businesses before.
- 8:36But her her experience as a
- 8:38gym owner really influences
- 8:41how she wants to move
- 8:41forward with this stuff.
- 8:43And Bob Kaplan, her husband,
- 8:44was the former head of
- 8:45research at the Peter T podcast.
- 8:48um I don't know if you're
- 8:48familiar with peter attia
- 8:50but peter attia was one of
- 8:53the first sort of pop
- 8:55culture doctors to come
- 8:57onto the scene with a big
- 8:58podcast and take these sort
- 9:00of more nuanced technical
- 9:02and complicated concepts in
- 9:04medicine and and science
- 9:06and try to deliver that to
- 9:07the lay person and so then
- 9:10after that became you know
- 9:11you got like hooberman and you've got um
- 9:16Who's the girl that was
- 9:17recently interviewed on the
- 9:18CrossFit podcast?
- 9:23I don't know.
- 9:24Dr. Rhonda Patrick.
- 9:26She goes on to Joe Rogan's podcast.
- 9:29So Peter Atiyah was one of
- 9:31the big early ones.
- 9:32And Bob ran the research
- 9:35department for Peter,
- 9:37not just his podcast.
- 9:38It was partly Bob's idea to
- 9:40create that podcast.
- 9:41But he was also in charge of
- 9:44helping Peter research what
- 9:47he needed to know to run
- 9:48his actual practice because
- 9:49Peter Atiyah is a practicing physician.
- 9:52And so Bob's got this extensive,
- 9:55extensive background,
- 9:55and now he's the chief scientist at, uh,
- 9:59at MedFix and they,
- 10:01the three of those guys, Bob, Emily,
- 10:03and Greg,
- 10:03they wrote out this curriculum
- 10:05and they needed it to be
- 10:06condensed down into,
- 10:08into a two day course.
- 10:09And so what they brought me
- 10:10in for is to help them do that.
- 10:11Obviously with my seminar
- 10:13experience and having spent so,
- 10:15so much time coaching and
- 10:17running some independent, um, you know,
- 10:19coaching seminars on my own.
- 10:22locally and abroad,
- 10:23independent of CrossFit, you know,
- 10:26I had some background in that.
- 10:27And we came in and we
- 10:29designed this course.
- 10:30And the thought process was
- 10:31to take the level one
- 10:36proportions of movement to
- 10:38nutrition and invert that.
- 10:42so what you see at our
- 10:43course is you see most of
- 10:45it is nutrition and you
- 10:48have a single lecture
- 10:50that's based in movement
- 10:52and what the intention here
- 10:54is is to is to elevate the
- 10:56trainer that's that's what
- 10:58we we want to do we want to
- 10:59take everything that you
- 11:00know from your your level
- 11:02one and greg's kernel and
- 11:03the level two and how to
- 11:04coach movement in the in the class and
- 11:08And realizing too,
- 11:09that there hasn't been a
- 11:10lot of great offerings in
- 11:12terms of nutrition in the space.
- 11:14CrossFit offers their one
- 11:15day nutrition course now.
- 11:17And Jocelyn, I'm good friends with Jocelyn,
- 11:20so I know her.
- 11:20She's amazing.
- 11:21She's she's extremely knowledgeable.
- 11:24And we've had many
- 11:25conversations over
- 11:26breakfast about nutrition.
- 11:28She's she's a killer.
- 11:29But CrossFit's CrossFit's
- 11:31come and said that this
- 11:32course is this one single
- 11:34day course is more for the athletes,
- 11:35more geared for the athlete
- 11:36of of how to practice
- 11:37nutrition on your own.
- 11:39and and what we intend our
- 11:41course to be is is to give
- 11:42the trainer a little more
- 11:44more knowledge so they can
- 11:46elevate their coaching game
- 11:48bring you know more
- 11:50background to their clients
- 11:52and then also connect uh
- 11:54connect the pieces from the
- 11:56coach in the gym to the to
- 11:59the medical professional um
- 12:01you know they you know a
- 12:02lot of people don't like
- 12:04the idea of getting into
- 12:06the weeds with a lot of the science but
- 12:09At the end of the day,
- 12:11knowledge gives you
- 12:11confidence to deliver
- 12:13things in a layman's in layman's terms.
- 12:15Right.
- 12:15One of the things that I like to say is,
- 12:18you know,
- 12:18what's the difference between
- 12:20Greg Glassman saying off
- 12:22the carbs and off the couch and
- 12:26some homeless guy reading it
- 12:27off a bumper sticker.
- 12:28The words are the same
- 12:29coming out of their mouth.
- 12:29But the reason that you are
- 12:31convinced that you should
- 12:32follow Greg when he says it
- 12:34is because he knows what
- 12:36the hell he's talking about.
- 12:37And he knows all the science
- 12:38and the background behind it.
- 12:39So the intention of the
- 12:40seminar is to bring those
- 12:43elements to the current
- 12:47level of the trainer and
- 12:48then elevate their game and
- 12:49try to get them on par with
- 12:50more of those medical professionals.
- 12:52So if...
- 12:55When I took the L-one in two
- 12:57thousand fifteen,
- 12:58it was the suggested
- 13:00nutrition method was the zone.
- 13:04When I took it in twenty twenty,
- 13:06it varied from that and
- 13:08gave a list of options that
- 13:10were a possibility and train to live.
- 13:15Ask this question and it's
- 13:17perfect for this piece.
- 13:19What principles are the
- 13:20nutrition lectures founded
- 13:21upon in the new foundations
- 13:23course of Netflix?
- 13:25yeah that's a great question
- 13:27so will we teach nutrition
- 13:30wise is uh and I put that
- 13:33up in in the recent post
- 13:35that got that got a lot of
- 13:36heat in on the medfix
- 13:38instagram page they
- 13:39reposted one of my tweets
- 13:40and I had the our protocol
- 13:42in there so you can go back
- 13:43and check that it's uh it's
- 13:44written down but you know
- 13:46definitively what we recommend is
- 13:50a diet that supports
- 13:50metabolic flexibility and exercise,
- 13:53but not body fat.
- 13:54So you,
- 13:54you would have heard that you
- 13:56notice an update in there, right?
- 13:57So supporting exercise, but not body fat.
- 14:00You probably heard of this before.
- 14:02You know,
- 14:02it's the second sentence in
- 14:04Greg's world-class fitness
- 14:05in a hundred words,
- 14:05but the metabolic flexibility piece is,
- 14:09is something that a lot of
- 14:10scientists are paying attention to now.
- 14:12And it's, it's partly determinant of, of,
- 14:17of your fitness levels,
- 14:18your potential fitness levels,
- 14:19but it's also largely
- 14:21determinant of your health.
- 14:23And what that is,
- 14:24is the ability to flick
- 14:25between both fat and
- 14:26carbohydrates as a fuel source.
- 14:29So if you're metabolically inflexible,
- 14:31then you're someone who
- 14:34only has the ability to
- 14:36utilize one of those things
- 14:37as a fuel source.
- 14:39Now,
- 14:39it's very rare that someone gets to
- 14:41the point where they can
- 14:42only exclusively use fat.
- 14:45think that there are some
- 14:45scientists out there that
- 14:46are trying to see what that
- 14:47looks like um you know tim
- 14:50noakes might be one of them
- 14:51tim noakes if you've ever
- 14:53uh read some of his stuff
- 14:54on uh hypernutrient
- 14:56encephalopathy when greg
- 14:58was starting to push that
- 15:00you know hyper hydration
- 15:01stuff back in the day and
- 15:02tim noakes was sort of at
- 15:03the forefront of that he's
- 15:04doing great uh high fat diet research but
- 15:09Most people in society are
- 15:11exclusively eating high carb diets.
- 15:14And what ends up happening,
- 15:15especially if it's high in sugar,
- 15:17is you become metabolically
- 15:18inflexible and reliant on
- 15:19the carbohydrate.
- 15:21And so what we're saying is
- 15:23that a healthy metabolism,
- 15:24one that lends itself to
- 15:25both longevity and work capacity, right,
- 15:29volume under the curve,
- 15:30the way that Greg Glassman defined health,
- 15:33is that metabolic
- 15:34flexibility is one of those
- 15:35things that you want to be
- 15:36able to achieve, to flick back and forth.
- 15:40And on top of that,
- 15:42fuel yourself to fuel your activity.
- 15:45And then on top of that,
- 15:46not so much that you have
- 15:48an accumulation of fat.
- 15:51Practically,
- 15:52that protocol looks like a high fat,
- 15:56moderate protein,
- 15:57low carb diet from a
- 15:59macronutrient standpoint.
- 16:01And that can be,
- 16:02those are broad buckets that you can fill
- 16:06and customize according to your results.
- 16:09And then practically,
- 16:11it looks a lot like what
- 16:13Greg originally said in the
- 16:14first sentence of World
- 16:15Class Fitness in a Hundred
- 16:16Words with some small, small updates.
- 16:19So we got eat meat and vegetables,
- 16:20nuts and seeds, some starch, little fruit,
- 16:24no sugar, and no seed oil.
- 16:26So we flipped the starch and
- 16:28the fruit and we added the seed oils,
- 16:33the no seed oils.
- 16:35And so,
- 16:37The starch and the fruit was switched.
- 16:40Actually,
- 16:40it was switched while Greg was at
- 16:42CrossFit.
- 16:43He had said that and come out and said it.
- 16:45I believe it was twenty nineteen,
- 16:51twenty twenty.
- 16:51I'm not one hundred percent sure.
- 16:53Maybe a year before he left.
- 16:54But
- 16:56The reason that he had come
- 16:58out and said that,
- 16:58we didn't end up switching it officially,
- 17:01but there were a couple
- 17:02posters printed with that updated version,
- 17:04actually.
- 17:05If you root back through the old images,
- 17:07you might be able to find it.
- 17:08But it's for a couple reasons.
- 17:11Dr. Richard Johnson,
- 17:15he's a specialist in fructose,
- 17:16and a lot of his research
- 17:20had to do with that switch.
- 17:21But Robert Lustig, actually, he's a...
- 17:25He's a pediatrician.
- 17:26He's kind of doing the
- 17:27rounds on the scientific podcasts.
- 17:29And he was on Humorman.
- 17:31He's considered a fructose expert.
- 17:33And he conducted a
- 17:35compelling experiment where he controlled,
- 17:39you know,
- 17:39when you're in pediatrics and
- 17:41you have people in the
- 17:42hospital and you're treating them,
- 17:44you've got great
- 17:45environments to control
- 17:46their food intake.
- 17:47And so he had access to this
- 17:49with a smaller group of children.
- 17:51And he had one group
- 17:55consume junk food that had sugar in it.
- 18:00So it had fructose and glucose.
- 18:03And then he had another
- 18:04group consume junk food, also junk food,
- 18:07what you'd consider like
- 18:08something from something
- 18:10from the corner store, like, you know,
- 18:13I think Pringles,
- 18:14but without the fructose.
- 18:17Right.
- 18:17So high starch, junk food, fructose free.
- 18:20So like Pringles, chips,
- 18:22these kinds of things, no sugar added.
- 18:26And even though they were
- 18:27both consuming junk food,
- 18:28the group that had less fructose
- 18:32improved their metabolic markers.
- 18:34They ended up with like less fatty liver,
- 18:36less ectopic fat,
- 18:38their blood markers started to improve.
- 18:40So this was compelling
- 18:41enough for Greg that like, okay,
- 18:42let's make this switch.
- 18:43Now, you know,
- 18:44people like to overthink it
- 18:45and they're like, oh,
- 18:45does that mean fruit's bad?
- 18:46And it's like, no, it's not the case,
- 18:48right?
- 18:49It's just compelling enough
- 18:50to make that small switch,
- 18:51but the proportions are, you know,
- 18:54are relative to one another
- 18:55in your total diet intake.
- 18:58The seed oils were actually
- 19:01talked a lot about by Greg originally,
- 19:05and they're actually
- 19:06embedded into the Level I
- 19:08curriculum in that nutrition lecture.
- 19:10I don't know if you remember, Scott.
- 19:11Do you remember when they
- 19:12talked about seed oils and
- 19:13industrial oils and the
- 19:15thought behind adding
- 19:16omega-threes into the diet?
- 19:20I definitely remember the
- 19:20omega-threes being the benefit.
- 19:22Yeah.
- 19:27So but the actual seed oil part, I don't.
- 19:30Yeah.
- 19:31So the reason that, you know, CrossFit,
- 19:35the CrossFit level one
- 19:36recommends adding omega
- 19:39three supplement as the
- 19:41only supplement to add into
- 19:43the diet is is because of
- 19:46the excessive amount of
- 19:47seed oils in in the
- 19:49standard American diet.
- 19:51And so Dr. Barry Sears
- 19:54talks a lot about this.
- 19:55His,
- 19:55his research has a lot to do with the
- 19:56costanoids and a costanoids are like,
- 19:59are the, so the precursors of, uh,
- 20:02or sorry, a costanides are,
- 20:04are essentially what the, uh,
- 20:06omega six and omega three
- 20:07gets turned into in the body.
- 20:08And they,
- 20:09they support either inflammation or anti
- 20:12inflammatory properties in the body.
- 20:14And you need a balance of those things,
- 20:15right?
- 20:15Like inflammation is good.
- 20:18You know, in certain instances, it's bad.
- 20:19In other instances,
- 20:20you don't you never want
- 20:20chronic inflammation.
- 20:22And so the two essential
- 20:23fatty acids that we that we
- 20:25ingest are omega six and omega three.
- 20:28They're the only two
- 20:29essential fatty acids that
- 20:30the human body needs.
- 20:31They're polyunsaturated fatty acids.
- 20:33And but you only need them in very,
- 20:35very small amounts.
- 20:36You don't need a whole lot of them.
- 20:37And they support, you know, immune system,
- 20:39tons of different function.
- 20:40They get they embed
- 20:41themselves into the
- 20:42membranes of your cells and, you know,
- 20:44make them squishy.
- 20:45And, you know, so a balance is needed,
- 20:47but small amounts.
- 20:48Now,
- 20:49seeds and nuts are naturally high in
- 20:52omega six.
- 20:54It's an essential fatty acid.
- 20:56But the problem is that.
- 20:58The omega-six is one of
- 21:00these pro-inflammatory molecules.
- 21:02And so Dr. Barry Sears from The Zone,
- 21:05he talked about this.
- 21:07And he started to see, and we all see it,
- 21:10and it's evident.
- 21:10You can look up the stats anywhere.
- 21:12It's like we consume a ratio
- 21:15of about twenty to one
- 21:16omega-six to omega-three in
- 21:18a standard American diet
- 21:21where we want it closer to two to one.
- 21:22So it's like we want a ten
- 21:23times reduction in that.
- 21:26So because omega-six are so hard to avoid,
- 21:29the recommendation that Dr.
- 21:30Barry Sears and eventually
- 21:32CrossFit came up with is
- 21:33let's add a supplement into
- 21:35the equation there.
- 21:37Now,
- 21:38why we don't recommend a supplement
- 21:42and why we say no seed oils
- 21:45is actually because by
- 21:46adding the supplement in
- 21:47and not focusing on the
- 21:48reduction of the
- 21:49polyunsaturated fatty acids
- 21:51is that this actually tends
- 21:52to be a problem.
- 21:54So there are many
- 21:57experiments out there that
- 21:59talk about or show the
- 22:02difference between the
- 22:04chemical structure in a
- 22:05polyunsaturated fatty acid
- 22:07and a saturated fatty acid.
- 22:10The polyunsaturated fatty
- 22:11acid has many double bonds
- 22:14between the carbons.
- 22:15You can think of a fatty
- 22:16acid as a carbon chain, right,
- 22:19a long carbon chain.
- 22:21Sixteen to eighteen carbons
- 22:22is like the average and a
- 22:23saturated fat has single
- 22:24double bonds all the way down the chain.
- 22:28And so it's saturated
- 22:28because all of those areas
- 22:30around are saturated with hydrogen.
- 22:32All the potential areas that
- 22:34could be occupied by
- 22:35hydrogen is occupied.
- 22:37Polyunsaturated fatty acid
- 22:38has many double bonds
- 22:41between the carbons.
- 22:42So there are less hydrogen.
- 22:44So it's unsaturated.
- 22:45Right.
- 22:45So that's kind of the logic
- 22:46behind the nomenclature.
- 22:47But
- 22:49There's studies that show
- 22:50that this type of fatty acid leads to, uh,
- 22:56less satiation,
- 22:58meaning you feel more
- 23:00hungry after eating it.
- 23:02And there's studies that
- 23:03have been shown that let's say,
- 23:06and this is all the, the, you know,
- 23:07the hype behind beef tallow
- 23:09and getting rid of the seed
- 23:10oils and the diet there's
- 23:11studies have been shown that, that
- 23:13people that eat French fries
- 23:15with seed oil versus beef
- 23:17tallow end up eating less
- 23:20of the fries with beef tallow.
- 23:23Just because that saturated
- 23:24fat is not more filling,
- 23:27like it doesn't fill up
- 23:28your stomach physically.
- 23:30It has to do with the
- 23:31chemical breakdown once the
- 23:33fatty acid gets into the
- 23:35cell and is oxidized and
- 23:38turned into energy for the cell.
- 23:39And all of this mechanism we
- 23:41get into in the course itself.
- 23:43So we talk specifically
- 23:45about how those fatty acids
- 23:47get broken down.
- 23:49And then we tie that into the mechanism,
- 23:51which is really
- 23:52interestingly builds on
- 23:55something else in the level
- 23:57one nutrition lecture that we talk about.
- 23:59We point to Norman Kaplan in
- 24:03nineteen eighty nine.
- 24:05He published a journal in
- 24:07the Archives of Internal
- 24:08Medicine called The Deadly Quartet.
- 24:10And this is a this is a
- 24:12journal article that Greg
- 24:13has carried around with him
- 24:14since he since he first
- 24:16opened his gym is like in
- 24:18the early two thousands.
- 24:20And it's embedded into the
- 24:21level one curriculum.
- 24:24And basically what Norman
- 24:25Kaplan found is before he
- 24:27could even know the mechanism,
- 24:29he found that the deadly quartet,
- 24:31which is hyper triglyceridemia,
- 24:34hypertension and glucose intolerance,
- 24:35which is essentially just hyperglycemia,
- 24:38Those things were caused by
- 24:41hyperinsulinemia by way of
- 24:43upper body obesity.
- 24:45And he'd just seen this
- 24:45clinically and he observed
- 24:47the cause through operative mechanism,
- 24:51but he didn't understand
- 24:52what was happening inside the cell.
- 24:54And now we know what's
- 24:56happening inside the cell.
- 24:57And so we explain that
- 24:59mechanism and build on what
- 25:01we already know.
- 25:02I'm going to ask you a
- 25:03couple questions just in
- 25:04layman's terms totally here
- 25:06like like avoid seed oils
- 25:09what does that mean to me
- 25:10the person trying to eat
- 25:12healthy does that mean like
- 25:14don't eat almonds anymore
- 25:17or does that mean like
- 25:19sesame seed oil don't use
- 25:21that in my cooking or like
- 25:23or is it just natural in other foods
- 25:26Yeah, that's a great question.
- 25:28Don't use the seed oils,
- 25:29vegetable oils in your cooking.
- 25:30Here's what I tell people.
- 25:31Hey,
- 25:32if you can squeeze the oil out of
- 25:34something with your hand,
- 25:35then it's probably an oil
- 25:37you should eat and use.
- 25:39If you look at the thing, the food,
- 25:41and you're like,
- 25:41how can you possibly get oil out of this?
- 25:45It's probably likely a whole
- 25:47bunch of chemicals are
- 25:48needed to extract and
- 25:49concentrate that oil.
- 25:51And it's also likely that
- 25:52the omega-six and all these
- 25:54other things that are
- 25:55contained in there are
- 25:56going to be highly
- 25:56concentrated when you ingest it.
- 25:58So it's like, you know,
- 26:00the dose makes the poison, right?
- 26:01This is an essential
- 26:02omega-six essential fatty acid,
- 26:04but overdoing it is obviously a problem.
- 26:08But the beginning of
- 26:09world-class fitness in a
- 26:10hundred words is eat nuts and seeds.
- 26:12Totally.
- 26:13So this is a, and you know, this,
- 26:17this goes back to eating a natural diet,
- 26:20right?
- 26:20Eating a natural diet,
- 26:21eating foods in their natural form.
- 26:22So obviously to some degree to,
- 26:25to eat food that tastes good,
- 26:26we have to we,
- 26:29we have to manipulate it or
- 26:32process it to a degree, right?
- 26:33Like
- 26:35Cooking my steak on a
- 26:36barbecue is a type of processing.
- 26:39But what's interesting about
- 26:41the nuts and seeds is that,
- 26:44and Dr. Zoe Harcombe,
- 26:46I don't know if you've heard of her,
- 26:47but she says that she's one
- 26:50of the mess birds, right?
- 26:52From Greg's entourage back in the day.
- 26:55And she's Welsh and she's a dietician.
- 27:00she says that nuts and seeds
- 27:01are moreish it's like you
- 27:02always want more right and
- 27:05it's because of the it's
- 27:06because the fat and the
- 27:07carbohydrate that
- 27:08combination is tasty but
- 27:09then you throw like salt in
- 27:11the mix and flavoring and
- 27:12then you're you're really
- 27:13in trouble right so I
- 27:16always tell people with
- 27:16that like probably get the
- 27:18the nuts and seeds that
- 27:20aren't salted that's
- 27:22probably in their natural
- 27:23form and then also to stop
- 27:26you from eating more at
- 27:27that point too maybe
- 27:29maybe buy them with the shells on, right?
- 27:34So the more,
- 27:36that's kind of the answer for
- 27:37me in simple terms is like, you know,
- 27:39if you find you're overeating something,
- 27:41it's like start to question
- 27:42whether that's actually how
- 27:43it's found in nature.
- 27:44And then you could probably
- 27:45find the answer of why typically,
- 27:49you know,
- 27:49an animal or a human might not
- 27:52want to be eating that
- 27:53thing in high and vast amounts, right?
- 27:57So now,
- 27:58because a lot of what you're
- 28:00telling me is based on what
- 28:02Greg did in CrossFit for
- 28:04twenty five years or twenty years,
- 28:05whatever it was that he owned,
- 28:07started known the company.
- 28:10Why is it why is it a bad
- 28:12thing or why is it
- 28:14important to get the
- 28:15message that you're not
- 28:16competing with CrossFit?
- 28:20It's important because it
- 28:21completely builds on it.
- 28:23It completely builds on it.
- 28:27And it's important to get
- 28:28that message out because
- 28:29there's a lot of trainers.
- 28:31I've certainly found a benefit myself.
- 28:32I know everyone you,
- 28:34we've only run one seminar,
- 28:35but everyone who came to Rogue,
- 28:37Ohio and went through the
- 28:39seminar found it very
- 28:45enlightening and could
- 28:47immediately start to see
- 28:48the benefit of how that's
- 28:49going to make them a better trainer.
- 28:52I mean, listen, in any profession,
- 28:55you're either
- 28:56You're either improving your
- 28:58knowledge and getting better,
- 28:59being stagnant and okay
- 29:01with where you are now,
- 29:02or you're going backwards.
- 29:05And I don't think that
- 29:06anyone in any trainer,
- 29:10any coach inside or outside
- 29:11of the CrossFit world
- 29:13believes that being okay
- 29:17with the status quo and
- 29:18their current level of
- 29:19knowledge is going to make
- 29:21them a better or a higher
- 29:23level of a professional.
- 29:25everything that you do in
- 29:27action starts with your
- 29:29knowledge and so what we're
- 29:31what we're simply trying to
- 29:32do is we're trying to give
- 29:33trainers and coaches an
- 29:35opportunity to to elevate
- 29:37their game to to bring a
- 29:41higher level of of
- 29:43professionalism to the
- 29:44coach and to give them the
- 29:47confidence right knowledge
- 29:49is confidence and there's a
- 29:51lot of people out there that
- 29:53can benefit from, you know,
- 29:55the the world's the cure to
- 29:57the world's most vexing problem.
- 29:59But again,
- 30:02Many people,
- 30:02even outside of the CrossFit world,
- 30:04hold the cure to the
- 30:05world's most vexing problem, right?
- 30:06All you have to do is lower
- 30:07the carbs and start moving.
- 30:09This is not a hard thing.
- 30:10It's not a hard thing to comprehend.
- 30:12But again,
- 30:13what's the difference between
- 30:15the trainer who the doctor
- 30:19will refer their patient to or say, hey,
- 30:22I know this trainer down the street.
- 30:23They're incredible because
- 30:25I've heard them speak on
- 30:26these topics and they're
- 30:27going to take care of you
- 30:28versus the person who just
- 30:31you know, might believe in this stuff,
- 30:32but they took a personal
- 30:34training certificate online, right?
- 30:38That's a huge chasm in
- 30:39between those two individuals.
- 30:41And although the personal
- 30:43trainer who gets their cert
- 30:45online is saying the right things,
- 30:49there's a level of trust
- 30:50that needs to be built,
- 30:52not just between the medical professional,
- 30:54but even the client, right?
- 30:55There's a, to a degree,
- 30:57people who are sick,
- 30:58who are taking care of themselves and
- 31:01They go to the doctor at a
- 31:03higher cadence than someone
- 31:05who's not suffering from an ailment.
- 31:07They're in tune with their bodies,
- 31:08they're in tune with their needs,
- 31:10and they're highly cautious
- 31:11of what it is that they're
- 31:14doing to their bodies and
- 31:15who they're engaging with
- 31:16to get them to a healthy place.
- 31:18They're going to have a lot of questions.
- 31:19And if you can't gain their
- 31:20trust with what it is that
- 31:22you're going to take them through,
- 31:24they might have technical
- 31:25questions that their doctor
- 31:27asked them to ask you.
- 31:28Right.
- 31:30I've had this I've had this
- 31:31happen to me on several occasions.
- 31:33And so this is this is really,
- 31:35really important stuff to me.
- 31:37If if you want to, as a coach,
- 31:41help a population and a
- 31:42demographic that frankly
- 31:44makes up over half of North
- 31:47America's population.
- 31:50So I don't disagree with you
- 31:52that it is the world's most
- 31:54vexing problem,
- 31:56but a lot of people are
- 31:57hearing the same words that
- 31:58they heard when they took their L-I,
- 32:01right?
- 32:03And so there's this idea that it's –
- 32:07Greg is just kind of putting
- 32:10all of his stuff back out
- 32:11there in a new package.
- 32:13But it's all saying the same thing.
- 32:15Now,
- 32:15he does say that MedFix is like the
- 32:18post-secondary education to
- 32:21going to college.
- 32:22So the L-I would be going to,
- 32:25and I think he used Utah
- 32:26State as an example,
- 32:27and then Johns Hopkins for
- 32:30your med degree.
- 32:31Doesn't mean the biology you
- 32:33got at Utah State is bad.
- 32:35just means that you're
- 32:36expanding your knowledge at
- 32:38that postgraduate degree.
- 32:40And then, of course,
- 32:41you use the cream on the
- 32:42cake analogy that the cake
- 32:44is everything we've known
- 32:45for the last twenty years.
- 32:47He's just putting the cream on top.
- 32:49Of course.
- 32:51Of course,
- 32:52like I have my degrees in biology,
- 32:55my my degrees in biology.
- 32:58And.
- 32:59You know,
- 33:00if I if I had gone to do a master's,
- 33:03then.
- 33:04I'm going to use the
- 33:05information that I learned
- 33:07with the biology degree and
- 33:09everything that I build on top of that,
- 33:11it's still going to be
- 33:12consistent with that original material.
- 33:14Just because I go and get more education,
- 33:16it doesn't mean that I
- 33:17totally negate the idea of
- 33:19what a cell is and the
- 33:22organelles contained in it.
- 33:24That wouldn't make any sense.
- 33:25It's continually building.
- 33:31To think that...
- 33:33to think that a single
- 33:35course is all you're ever going to need.
- 33:37And CrossFit has always put
- 33:42out and supported continuing education.
- 33:45I'm a CrossFit level four coach.
- 33:48And to maintain my credential,
- 33:50I have to do continuing education.
- 33:53That's something that CrossFit promotes.
- 33:54And they encourage you to go
- 33:55out and do other courses,
- 33:56not just the ones that they host.
- 33:58Because they realize that
- 34:00there is tons of other
- 34:02information out there.
- 34:03Even though CrossFit teaches
- 34:04you how to hold a barbell,
- 34:05they teach you how to do a snatch,
- 34:07they teach you how to do a
- 34:07kettlebell swing,
- 34:08they teach you how to do a squat,
- 34:09teach you all these things,
- 34:10but they don't say, don't go to...
- 34:13Don't go to Westside Barbell
- 34:15because they don't know.
- 34:15They're just copying us.
- 34:17They know how to squat.
- 34:18You already know how to
- 34:19squat at the level one.
- 34:19You don't need to know how
- 34:21to squat from Louie Simmons
- 34:22or you don't know.
- 34:24You know,
- 34:24we teach you how to snatch at the
- 34:25end of the level one.
- 34:26So you don't need to go to
- 34:29Dimitri Klokoff and learn
- 34:30his technique on how to snatch.
- 34:32No, it's all it's all good information.
- 34:34It's all building on on each other.
- 34:36The only difference is, is that, you know,
- 34:38Greg Glassman owns this company.
- 34:40And so obviously he's going
- 34:42to be building on his own methodology.
- 34:45Okay.
- 34:46So you,
- 34:46you freely admit that this is all
- 34:48based on everything we've known for.
- 34:50Twenty years.
- 34:51Yep.
- 34:52And a whole bunch of stuff,
- 34:53but it's a whole bunch of
- 34:54stuff that you never learned.
- 34:55Right.
- 34:55Exactly.
- 34:56That Emily and Bob are
- 34:57bringing a whole new element to the game.
- 35:00That's, that's extremely informative.
- 35:02And yeah,
- 35:04Like when I started learning
- 35:05about this stuff completely blew my mind.
- 35:07And you're talking like I've
- 35:08been I've been in this
- 35:09since I started training
- 35:11and in twenty ten.
- 35:15And, you know,
- 35:16so fifteen years of training,
- 35:18eight years on on seminar staff,
- 35:20two years at the CrossFit Games,
- 35:22affiliate ownership like it all.
- 35:25Right.
- 35:25And.
- 35:27you get into a place where you're like,
- 35:30man,
- 35:30this is all I really need because you
- 35:32see the results.
- 35:33And until you start reading
- 35:36a little bit more and
- 35:37learning a little bit more, you're like,
- 35:38oh my God, this is really mind blowing.
- 35:39So I'm excited about it for that reason.
- 35:43So I think one of the
- 35:43fundamental problems is,
- 35:45is we look at MedFix and
- 35:47we're trying to understand
- 35:48it to explain this like
- 35:50post-secondary level of
- 35:52what we've already known.
- 35:54Yeah.
- 35:54Takes a language that many
- 35:56of us don't understand.
- 36:00You know, I hear all the time,
- 36:01like there's been a concept or just,
- 36:03are you talking about the
- 36:04concept of a post-secondary
- 36:06education or just the
- 36:07actual science itself?
- 36:08The science and the vocabulary.
- 36:10Right.
- 36:11I'm seeing it in the chat.
- 36:12Like, like, man, I feel dumb or like,
- 36:14I don't understand.
- 36:15Can we get to some more layman's terms?
- 36:19Is there a way to like,
- 36:21because it's advanced
- 36:22beyond what we've known in
- 36:24CrossFit for so long, is there a way to,
- 36:27to,
- 36:28get it in a package that's
- 36:30easier to understand.
- 36:31Totally.
- 36:32And that's hopefully that's
- 36:33what the course provides.
- 36:34Hopefully that was,
- 36:35that was my goal with the course, right?
- 36:36Is,
- 36:36is to provide that to you in a package.
- 36:38It's easy to understand.
- 36:40You get time to digest it.
- 36:41We've got whiteboard drawings,
- 36:43like the flow of the course
- 36:45also includes tons of interaction.
- 36:48There's lots of breakout groups that, uh,
- 36:50you know, foster learning of, of the,
- 36:54the lecture preceding it.
- 36:56And, um,
- 36:59The other thing is to push
- 37:00people a little bit, right.
- 37:01To,
- 37:01to challenge themselves and to learn a
- 37:03little bit more, right.
- 37:03You, you, I mean,
- 37:06crossfitters are very
- 37:09accustomed to pushing
- 37:10themselves outside their comfort zone.
- 37:12Right.
- 37:13And, and so I would,
- 37:15I think that it would be an incomplete,
- 37:19uh,
- 37:19an incomplete approach if you did this
- 37:21with only your body and not your mind.
- 37:23Okay.
- 37:26So it's not designed to
- 37:28spoon feed it to you in the
- 37:30most digestible way.
- 37:31It's to talk about it in real terms,
- 37:33digest it down just enough
- 37:35that you can grasp onto it.
- 37:37but also enough that it's
- 37:40necessary and you want to learn more.
- 37:42Because like the level one,
- 37:44like the level two,
- 37:45two days is not enough to
- 37:46give you absolutely everything.
- 37:48And so we've designed an
- 37:53extension course that when
- 37:55you sign up for the foundations course,
- 37:56you get delivered this extension course
- 38:00virtually and it's almost
- 38:02like a little prep course
- 38:02but you have access to it
- 38:04for a full year after the
- 38:05course as well so you can
- 38:06go back and relearn and
- 38:07there's um there's primers
- 38:10but there's also extended
- 38:12information that you can do
- 38:13deeper dives in post course
- 38:15and it allows you to really
- 38:16take your time to absorb
- 38:17things um there's also uh
- 38:20there's also a weekly email
- 38:22that'll come out to
- 38:23everyone who's who's done
- 38:24the course uh so we're
- 38:26getting ready to launch
- 38:27that pretty soon the
- 38:29Oh, one will get it.
- 38:30We're about to go to Utah at
- 38:32Salt Lake City to do our
- 38:33our second seminar and
- 38:35hopefully by by the third seminar,
- 38:38we'll have those fifty two emails out.
- 38:41And you're going to get a
- 38:41follow up email to teach
- 38:44you how to brief some of
- 38:45this stuff to your class
- 38:46and talk about this stuff
- 38:47in more layman's terms, you know,
- 38:49in like in like three to
- 38:50five minutes as like a cool
- 38:52down talk or something like that.
- 38:54So that's the whole purpose of this, too,
- 38:57is to take these these
- 38:58technical concepts and to
- 38:59try to distill it down into
- 39:01layman's terms.
- 39:02But it's not but it's not to
- 39:04dumb it down so much that
- 39:05you get it right away.
- 39:07We want to push people the the
- 39:10to invest a little bit of
- 39:11time into learning it.
- 39:11But when you do invest time, like anything,
- 39:14like a squat or a thruster,
- 39:15when you invest the right amount of time,
- 39:16you're going to learn that, right?
- 39:19Okay.
- 39:20The one thing I do want to
- 39:21share with the...
- 39:23the audience is that you
- 39:25guys have developed a
- 39:26website that on the surface again,
- 39:29looks very much like the old CrossFit.
- 39:32But it has some enhancements
- 39:34to it that I think are,
- 39:36it's probably the thing
- 39:37that pulled me in the most
- 39:39initially when I was researching.
- 39:41And so I'm going to pull
- 39:42that up real quick.
- 39:44Yeah, totally.
- 39:45Let's check it out.
- 39:47And that is
- 39:49This is your, like,
- 39:50on the old CrossFit website,
- 39:52you would have daily workout,
- 39:54the workout of the day, right?
- 39:56But you guys have expanded
- 39:58that to a three-piece system for the day.
- 40:03Yeah, this is super cool.
- 40:04And it's not just the workout of the day.
- 40:06You have that,
- 40:07but it's not even the first
- 40:08thing that shows.
- 40:09No.
- 40:11And it's the three Bs, belly, body,
- 40:13and brain.
- 40:15And so the first thing is
- 40:16you have a recipe for
- 40:18people if they want an idea
- 40:20to cook dinner that fits
- 40:21within your nutrition ideology.
- 40:26And then you go to the body,
- 40:28and there we have the
- 40:30traditional CrossFit workout, Helen.
- 40:34And then you go to the brain,
- 40:36and it's actually almost
- 40:38like an assigned reading
- 40:39for the day to learn more
- 40:41about your overall health.
- 40:44Actually, I use this as an example.
- 40:47My wife and I were literally
- 40:48talking about statins last
- 40:50night because my mom is
- 40:52having issues since she's been put on one,
- 40:55and I wanted to go read this.
- 40:57Oh, there you go.
- 40:58Did you learn something?
- 41:01I'm not all the way through it yet because,
- 41:02again, I don't have a biology degree.
- 41:04Science was probably my weakest subject,
- 41:06but I do have the curiosity
- 41:08to try to learn it.
- 41:09Yeah, absolutely.
- 41:10And that's what counts, right?
- 41:11And that's what it's supposed to simulate.
- 41:13Even if you don't get to the mall,
- 41:14at least you're intrigued.
- 41:17Or maybe you see the
- 41:18headline and then something
- 41:19else piques your interest.
- 41:20You go back to it later, right?
- 41:22And it's enough for me to
- 41:22question why she's on it.
- 41:24Right.
- 41:25Right.
- 41:25I've learned enough of that as well.
- 41:28This is a really cool, the, this,
- 41:29so the daily fix here is really cool.
- 41:31Yeah.
- 41:32The,
- 41:32like it's by design that the first
- 41:34thing you're gonna see is the food,
- 41:35because that's what we're
- 41:36saying at the seminars.
- 41:37It's the first line of
- 41:38defense and in making you healthier, we,
- 41:41you know, everyone.
- 41:44You always have a choice
- 41:45whether you're gonna exercise or not.
- 41:46You don't have a choice
- 41:47whether you're gonna eat or not.
- 41:49So this is gonna be the
- 41:51first thing that you can do
- 41:52to improve your health.
- 41:54And so we really, really emphasize that,
- 41:56not just here, but at the seminar.
- 41:57And then,
- 41:58so if MedFix affiliates are sort
- 42:01of a cool backend feature
- 42:03is obviously tons of
- 42:04affiliates do their own programming.
- 42:07For years I did, I love programming.
- 42:09I always love to do my own programming,
- 42:11but I'm actually doing this,
- 42:14because I find it convenient
- 42:16and I don't have the time
- 42:17anymore to do the
- 42:17programing for my my program at my gym.
- 42:22But you can embed this onto your website,
- 42:24this whole thing.
- 42:25You can grab the you can
- 42:27grab the the code and you
- 42:29can embed that straight
- 42:29into your website.
- 42:30So it populates just the way
- 42:32that you see it right here,
- 42:33right on your site.
- 42:34You can hide it.
- 42:34You can keep it on the forefront.
- 42:36You can you know, you can
- 42:38You can make it so that if you want,
- 42:40you can just screen grab it
- 42:42quick or just copy paste the text,
- 42:47modify things a little bit
- 42:48if you don't like the workout.
- 42:49So it's cool in that sense as well.
- 42:53Yeah, cool.
- 42:54And then you just hit the
- 42:55see more button like for the recipe.
- 42:58And there you get like the full recipe.
- 43:02That looks delicious, eh?
- 43:05So there's that.
- 43:07So most of these recipes are,
- 43:11most of them are ketogenic.
- 43:12Like they're really low carbohydrate,
- 43:14but you don't put keto in
- 43:17the title because anything
- 43:18with keto doesn't taste as good.
- 43:20Right.
- 43:23And then again, the same with body,
- 43:24you hit,
- 43:24see more and you get more
- 43:26information about the workout itself.
- 43:27Um, and then brain.
- 43:30Um, now what I did notice is like,
- 43:33as I was clicking through
- 43:34some of the brain stuff,
- 43:35a lot of them are old
- 43:36journal posts that Greg
- 43:38made back in the day.
- 43:39But this one here is from a third party.
- 43:42Yep.
- 43:42There's a lot of third party.
- 43:43Um, there's, there's a lot of original,
- 43:48original material, uh, that,
- 43:51has come out and is yet to come out.
- 43:53I don't know, do you remember Lon Kilgore?
- 43:57Lon Kilgore wrote a lot back
- 43:58in the early days for
- 44:00CrossFit and for Greg in
- 44:03the original journal.
- 44:04And he did a lot of stuff later on too.
- 44:07When Greg started,
- 44:09when Greg took control of the website in,
- 44:12in January,
- 44:13and he started posting more information
- 44:17regards to anatomy like
- 44:19basic anatomy of the body I
- 44:21don't know if you remember
- 44:21those those posts you
- 44:23remember when the workout
- 44:24the day was posted there
- 44:25would be here's the anatomy
- 44:27of like a hand and it would
- 44:29talk about the bones and
- 44:30then do you remember that
- 44:33So I started in two thousand eleven.
- 44:35So I'm a little bit late to
- 44:36the game of the twenty nine.
- 44:38No, twenty nineteen.
- 44:39Oh, nineteen.
- 44:40Yeah.
- 44:40When Greg when Greg says he
- 44:42commandeered the website,
- 44:44he started programing a little bit.
- 44:45Remember when every second
- 44:47day we saw some version of Cindy?
- 44:48Yeah.
- 44:50Yeah.
- 44:51And along with that came a
- 44:53whole bunch of anatomy
- 44:54posts and those anatomy posts,
- 44:58a lot of them were long Kilgore.
- 44:59And so Trish S was that the pig spine guy?
- 45:03the pig spine.
- 45:04I don't know.
- 45:05I don't know who the pig spine guy is,
- 45:06but it's possible.
- 45:08But,
- 45:09but Lon's doing a lot of writing for
- 45:10us too now.
- 45:11And he's,
- 45:12he's got an extensive background
- 45:14and he just turns out information,
- 45:16which is, which is great.
- 45:17But, you know,
- 45:18and a lot of the stuff behind the, the,
- 45:20you know,
- 45:20reposting Greg's original
- 45:21journal articles.
- 45:22And I know a lot of people are just like,
- 45:23Oh, it's CrossFit.
- 45:25It's just CrossFit.
- 45:26It's copycat, blah, blah, blah.
- 45:27I mean, it,
- 45:28Part of it's about the
- 45:29preservation of them.
- 45:30I mean,
- 45:31I know that when private equity
- 45:33took over CrossFit HQ,
- 45:36of a sudden it all
- 45:37disappeared and and you can
- 45:38still find it if you dig
- 45:39but the first thing that I
- 45:41did the first thing that I
- 45:42did when greg sold the
- 45:43company was I went to the
- 45:46old archives and I saved
- 45:48every single journal
- 45:50article and I have it on a
- 45:51hard drive every single one
- 45:53and so I'm I'm extremely
- 45:55pleased that um you know
- 45:57not just because I work for
- 45:58them now but I was
- 45:59extremely pleased to see
- 46:00that that you know greg had
- 46:03maintain ownership of his
- 46:04material and that he was
- 46:06able to maintain it and put
- 46:07it at the forefront on his
- 46:09website because it's so important.
- 46:10One of the things that I
- 46:14think sort of maintains
- 46:15that culture over time is
- 46:17the knowledge of the
- 46:18history and the original
- 46:20kernel and where that comes from.
- 46:21And again,
- 46:22we're reposting those things
- 46:25because they don't need changing.
- 46:27They don't need changing.
- 46:28They're amazing the way that they are.
- 46:30But what we do realize is that
- 46:32You know,
- 46:32new information comes out and we
- 46:34want to build on top of that.
- 46:35And, and although subtle,
- 46:38I think that they're
- 46:39significant and it's going
- 46:42to make for a really cool course and,
- 46:45and a lot of cool things to happen in the,
- 46:46in the community.
- 46:48And I do think that's an important point.
- 46:51These are all Greg's creations.
- 46:52And as a legacy,
- 46:55he'd love to preserve all
- 46:57of this information, right?
- 46:59And this gives him a way to
- 47:00do that in a way that he believes in.
- 47:03Because CrossFit's not for sale again.
- 47:06We don't know what that's
- 47:07going to mean for the
- 47:08future of any of this stuff,
- 47:09whether they're going to use it,
- 47:11throw it away, keep it, archive it.
- 47:13We don't know.
- 47:14So it's a nice thing that he...
- 47:18is going to have a
- 47:19repository for all of this
- 47:20information for us to
- 47:21access whenever we want
- 47:23absolutely quick question
- 47:24from train to live yeah use
- 47:27the course would it count
- 47:28for ceus with any other
- 47:30certifications so it is I
- 47:33believe it's fifteen
- 47:35hundred us dollars and the
- 47:38ceus uh and you can confirm
- 47:41that you maybe you can pull
- 47:42it up there scott go to the
- 47:43uh go to our if you go to
- 47:44metfix.org you could see it
- 47:46right there but um
- 47:49The CEUs, like if I was going to,
- 47:52if I was going to use the
- 47:53MedFix foundations course for, for CEUs,
- 47:55it's not pre-approved by CrossFit, maybe,
- 47:58maybe one day,
- 47:59but for their certifications.
- 48:01But if I was going to use
- 48:03that to keep my level four,
- 48:09did you go to MedFix.org?
- 48:13I'm on just a page in, I thought that,
- 48:21there you go scroll down
- 48:21there you go scroll down
- 48:22there you go scroll down uh
- 48:25you see the uh you see the
- 48:27uh you see the oh there's
- 48:28long kilgore there um go
- 48:33back up to the top um go
- 48:33back up to the top um go
- 48:34back up to the top are you
- 48:35at medfix.org or you have
- 48:36are you at medfix.org or
- 48:37you have are you at
- 48:38medfix.org or you have
- 48:38broken science.org uh
- 48:39broken broken science.org
- 48:39uh broken broken broken
- 48:40click click medfix there go
- 48:41down and click click medfix
- 48:42there go down and click
- 48:43click medfix there go down
- 48:43and click the the medfix
- 48:44logo just scroll down the
- 48:45the medfix logo just scroll
- 48:46down the the medfix logo
- 48:47just scroll down and click
- 48:47the big one and click the
- 48:48big one and click the big
- 48:48one yeah yeah yeah okay uh okay uh
- 48:50seminar calendar was that
- 48:52the click seminars.
- 48:53Okay.
- 48:55Should scroll down, scroll down.
- 49:00What if you click one,
- 49:03click one of those sign up.
- 49:04All right.
- 49:08Go down.
- 49:11You must be logged in.
- 49:12Oh,
- 49:13I'm pretty sure it's fifteen hundred
- 49:15bucks.
- 49:16Um, so
- 49:20CrossFit allows you to
- 49:21submit CEUs for any course.
- 49:24She's actually thinking NSCA.
- 49:25Yeah, most of these.
- 49:26I used to have a CSCS from the NSCA,
- 49:29so Certified Strength and
- 49:30Conditioning Coach.
- 49:31I used to be one of those.
- 49:32And usually they have forms
- 49:35that you can submit for CEUs.
- 49:38continuing education you
- 49:39just have to fill it out
- 49:41and uh if it's something
- 49:43that the course
- 49:44administrator needs to like
- 49:45sign off on or something
- 49:46like that then you can
- 49:47always just bring it to the
- 49:48course and we can sign that
- 49:49for you for sure or just
- 49:51you know send it by email
- 49:52and we'll have it done if
- 49:53it's gonna help you keep
- 49:54the keep the surf for sure
- 49:55yeah yeah typically it's
- 49:58like one ceu for one
- 50:01learning hour right like in
- 50:02person or something like that
- 50:06we're down to like the last
- 50:07ten minutes that I have for
- 50:08today and I and I did want
- 50:10to ask you a question about
- 50:11this that you just you just
- 50:12posted um it's it's going
- 50:15everywhere now I missed a
- 50:20button there we go um and
- 50:26so it is this little guy
- 50:29here there it is the old
- 50:32the fire bomb yeah so
- 50:37I knew I was having you on
- 50:38when this got posted.
- 50:40So I read through it very carefully.
- 50:41And then I thought when I,
- 50:44when I started CrossFit in,
- 50:46I learned nutrition from my
- 50:48affiliate owner.
- 50:49Yup.
- 50:51Um,
- 50:51and then I joined a second affiliate
- 50:52later in life and that
- 50:54affiliate owner also was
- 50:55very active in learning the nutrition.
- 50:59This compares a games athlete to, uh,
- 51:04guess a common average
- 51:06ordinary joe like me yeah
- 51:08yeah yeah totally and I
- 51:10never in my ten years of
- 51:12doing crossfit or eleven or
- 51:14twelve whatever it's been
- 51:16too long now um did I ever
- 51:19come look at what an
- 51:20athlete eats in a day and
- 51:22think that's the diet I need to follow
- 51:24Right.
- 51:25And you're the smart one.
- 51:26That's for sure.
- 51:28Yeah.
- 51:29Sorry.
- 51:30Go ahead, Scott.
- 51:30Do you think this is
- 51:31actually like a major
- 51:32problem going on in the
- 51:35current realm of CrossFit nutrition?
- 51:38Yeah, I do think it is.
- 51:39I think it's a problem.
- 51:42To be honest,
- 51:44I don't have a statistic
- 51:45because I didn't perform a study.
- 51:46I know there's some people
- 51:47in the comments that want
- 51:50me to cite some data,
- 51:52but this is all through
- 51:54observation from my experience.
- 51:58um yeah I think I mean I
- 51:59think greg would say the
- 52:01same thing he has said the
- 52:02same thing I mean the guy
- 52:04knew while he was still at
- 52:06the helm of crossfit that
- 52:07the games athletes were
- 52:08influencing heavily the
- 52:09community and he saw there
- 52:11was there were problems
- 52:11with it I think the issue
- 52:13with the why people got so
- 52:15inflamed in the in the
- 52:16posts in the comments
- 52:17section is because they're conflating
- 52:20what I'm talking about,
- 52:21which are the defined terms
- 52:22and the implementation of
- 52:25those methodologies within the community.
- 52:28So there's a difference
- 52:29between your perception of
- 52:30its implementation and the
- 52:32actual definition of these things.
- 52:35The point that I was trying
- 52:36to make is that CrossFit is
- 52:37defined as constantly
- 52:38varied functional movement
- 52:39performed at high intensity point.
- 52:42And nothing more than that.
- 52:44That's the definition.
- 52:45That's what we say at the level one.
- 52:46It's what Greg defined it as
- 52:48in those early days.
- 52:49And if you go back to that for a sec,
- 52:50Scott,
- 52:53and you just take at face value the
- 52:55definition of CrossFit,
- 52:57what do those words mean to you?
- 52:59What does that imply?
- 53:02I say it below, but...
- 53:03It's the workout.
- 53:04It's the workout.
- 53:05It's the workout, right?
- 53:06Exactly.
- 53:07The definition of CrossFit is the workout.
- 53:09And so when Greg made this,
- 53:11it was his intention to
- 53:12also teach people about the
- 53:16culture and the
- 53:16implementation in the right way, right?
- 53:20That was the intention,
- 53:21except the problem with
- 53:24that is that all the great
- 53:26coaches who understand how
- 53:29to implement it properly
- 53:30can't be everywhere all at once.
- 53:33So when you have a
- 53:34definition and you have a competition,
- 53:37a world famous competition
- 53:40that expresses CrossFit
- 53:43exclusively using this definition,
- 53:46nothing beyond that,
- 53:49then you have some missteps
- 53:51in its implementation.
- 53:54You have some missteps.
- 53:55It's inevitable.
- 53:57And that's from my opinion.
- 54:03know part of that is due to
- 54:05the fact that diet is not
- 54:07part of the definition you
- 54:08can say that some you can
- 54:10say that someone is doing
- 54:11crossfit if still if
- 54:13they're following an
- 54:14improper diet because
- 54:15they're still doing
- 54:16constantly varied
- 54:17functional movements at
- 54:17high intensity right so you
- 54:20get a bunch of people that
- 54:21do it right and they get
- 54:22healthy you get a bunch of
- 54:23people that do it wrong
- 54:24they're still doing
- 54:24crossfit I see it all the time
- 54:29And so the intention here
- 54:31was just to point in the
- 54:33direction that we're headed with MedFix.
- 54:36And the direction is to
- 54:40focus on diet first and to
- 54:42focus on the outcome, which is health,
- 54:45right?
- 54:45And that's what we're defining MedFix as,
- 54:48it's broad, right?
- 54:50It's a broad definition so
- 54:51that it can encompass many stimulus.
- 54:55as long as you're moving in
- 54:56the direction of health as
- 54:58Greg defined it.
- 55:00But that was the main
- 55:01difference that I wanted to
- 55:03outline and not in any way, shape or form,
- 55:06say that people in the
- 55:08community are all doing
- 55:09what Jason Hopper's doing.
- 55:11That's not true, that's not true.
- 55:12But to make a point,
- 55:13you have to sometimes show the extremes.
- 55:18Yeah, because I almost think that like,
- 55:21just to push back a little I
- 55:22think that the example
- 55:24actually upset a lot of
- 55:26people because for sure in
- 55:28my affiliates ninety
- 55:30percent of the people that
- 55:31come don't even know the
- 55:32crossfit games exist right
- 55:34right but but they also
- 55:37probably don't know how
- 55:39important nutrition is to
- 55:41their overall health yeah
- 55:43So while I do applaud the
- 55:46fact that you guys are
- 55:48emphasizing nutrition so much,
- 55:51and if it is the cream on
- 55:53the cake or the post-secondary education,
- 55:55I love that aspect completely.
- 55:58But these comparisons, I think,
- 56:01really hit the base hard.
- 56:03And you know,
- 56:04you've been a CrossFitter forever, right?
- 56:06The base of CrossFit –
- 56:09are very protective of their
- 56:11thing well it hit the base
- 56:13heart of those who are in
- 56:14the comments right but
- 56:17everyone outside the
- 56:17comments you know like
- 56:19there's a lot of people
- 56:20that agree with me that
- 56:21aren't necessarily getting
- 56:22dirty in the comments but
- 56:24um you know but they're
- 56:25texting me on the side and
- 56:26and you know but I think
- 56:29that also people need to
- 56:30understand that they all
- 56:32have subjective everyone
- 56:33has a subjective interpretation of
- 56:37their CrossFit experience
- 56:38and also the way that it
- 56:40should or shouldn't be implemented.
- 56:42But that's the beauty of it.
- 56:44That's the beauty of this
- 56:45constantly very functional
- 56:46movement to high intensity stimulus.
- 56:48It's just a movement
- 56:49stimulus and you can
- 56:50implement it however the hell you want.
- 56:53I've traveled all over the world.
- 56:56I've been to plenty of boxes like yours.
- 56:58where they have no idea what
- 56:59the games are and they
- 57:00focus on nutrition.
- 57:01I've been to other boxes, Scott,
- 57:04that all they do is talk about the games.
- 57:06It's all they do.
- 57:07All they do is competition.
- 57:08And they've got and they've
- 57:09got a jar of gummies on the
- 57:11front desk to fuel their
- 57:13their double sessions.
- 57:16You know,
- 57:16I've been to gyms that are a mix
- 57:18where half the gym is is like yours.
- 57:20The other half is competition.
- 57:22And then people are
- 57:23oblivious to people who
- 57:25might be addicted to
- 57:26refined carbohydrates.
- 57:27And on the weekends, you know,
- 57:29boxes of donuts are lined
- 57:31up on the table and, you know,
- 57:34sugar is served along with
- 57:36the cream for the coffee.
- 57:37Right.
- 57:39So it's not as black and white.
- 57:44terms of its implementation
- 57:45as people might think it's
- 57:47very very blended and our
- 57:50intention is to you know is
- 57:53to lift up those who are
- 57:54doing it right currently
- 57:56and also hopefully teach
- 57:59the people who aren't the
- 58:00reasons why they might want
- 58:02to reconsider how they
- 58:03implement the program
- 58:06So Jenny from Dense Updates
- 58:09is in the chat.
- 58:09Hey, Jenny.
- 58:11And it is, as a seminar staff member,
- 58:14when you saw all this going down,
- 58:16did you call it out to the
- 58:17affiliate owners or the people and say,
- 58:20what are you doing?
- 58:21Like, this is for... Yeah.
- 58:24You did.
- 58:25Yeah, all the time.
- 58:26Constantly.
- 58:27Constantly.
- 58:30Whether it's at a seminar,
- 58:31whether it's at a seminar,
- 58:32calling people out, you know,
- 58:35maybe like...
- 58:36by like a second degree
- 58:37because someone has a
- 58:38question specifically about
- 58:40something they experienced
- 58:42at a gym and you're trying
- 58:44to lift them up and give
- 58:45them the courage to go back
- 58:48to their gyms and approach
- 58:51things in the right way
- 58:52because they've all seen a
- 58:54certain situation that they
- 58:55know is not right or now
- 58:56they're learning is not
- 58:57right because they came to
- 58:58the seminar or even firsthand,
- 59:00whether it's me as like a coach
- 59:03Um, whether it's me as, uh, you know, on a,
- 59:06on a team with, as you know,
- 59:08as a games athlete on a team, you know,
- 59:10with, with a teammate who all,
- 59:11all they do is, is take gummy bears and,
- 59:14um, and, uh, what do you call it?
- 59:18Like, uh, gummy worms and all,
- 59:20all these little candies,
- 59:21like they show up with a
- 59:21bag of candies to fuel their workout.
- 59:24What are you doing?
- 59:26What are you doing?
- 59:27Right.
- 59:27This is a, it's not, it's not uncommon.
- 59:29It's I'm not surprised to
- 59:30see that stuff anymore.
- 59:32I want to hit with two more.
- 59:33I want to answer Jody's question.
- 59:35It's hard for me to believe
- 59:36that our CrossFit box is
- 59:37completely unaware of the games.
- 59:38Come on.
- 59:39I went to Christy Aramo O'Connell's gym,
- 59:42and I am telling you,
- 59:43fifty percent of that gym
- 59:45did not even know about the games.
- 59:46At Christy Aramo's gym?
- 59:47Yes.
- 59:48No way.
- 59:49Only if by chance she was
- 59:52going and they would watch her.
- 59:54Honestly,
- 59:55there are people that just come
- 59:56in for their hour and they leave.
- 59:58people there's first there's
- 59:59certainly people who who
- 1:00:00are oblivious to it yeah
- 1:00:02absolutely um but yeah it's
- 1:00:04a big mix and then my other
- 1:00:05gym my first gym that I
- 1:00:06joined there was no games
- 1:00:08athlete there they had no
- 1:00:10they had no idea yeah in
- 1:00:11the open that's their only
- 1:00:13connection to the games at all totally um
- 1:00:16And then Larry Young makes a great point.
- 1:00:18And I think this is where,
- 1:00:20where MedFix does come into play.
- 1:00:21Yeah.
- 1:00:22Some of the diet coaches
- 1:00:23basically regurgitate the same stuff.
- 1:00:26One gram of protein per lean mass,
- 1:00:28et cetera.
- 1:00:29I'm late to this at work,
- 1:00:30but my experience, some,
- 1:00:33it just isn't true and why
- 1:00:34results are mediocre.
- 1:00:35And what did you like about
- 1:00:40what Greg said?
- 1:00:41And I'm sorry,
- 1:00:42I'm stepping on your toes here.
- 1:00:43Oh no, dude.
- 1:00:43Yeah.
- 1:00:43It's your podcast.
- 1:00:44You go.
- 1:00:45is that this is not a, this is the answer.
- 1:00:50It's working toward the answer.
- 1:00:52Totally.
- 1:00:53It's, you know, when Greg defined fitness,
- 1:00:56that became the focal point.
- 1:00:58It was the health,
- 1:00:59even in the presentation of
- 1:01:00the lecture at the level one,
- 1:01:04when we define health,
- 1:01:07it's almost a little bit of
- 1:01:08an afterthought.
- 1:01:09About five minutes or five
- 1:01:11to seven minutes are
- 1:01:12devoted to the definition of health.
- 1:01:14as, as an observable,
- 1:01:16measurable and repeatable definition.
- 1:01:18Um, the whole, the, the,
- 1:01:20the hour long lecture is
- 1:01:21dedicated to the definition of fitness.
- 1:01:24And, and I mean, CrossFit, I mean,
- 1:01:27I was listening to the
- 1:01:28coffee pods and wads with, uh, with,
- 1:01:31with Peter,
- 1:01:32everyone called it probably
- 1:01:32knows him better than Pedro.
- 1:01:34Um,
- 1:01:35And he was, he was interviewing, uh,
- 1:01:38Johnny Davies,
- 1:01:39who's the current seminar staff member.
- 1:01:41And he's like,
- 1:01:41we gotta get back to forging
- 1:01:43elite fitness and the focus on fitness.
- 1:01:45And I mean, I think that's cool.
- 1:01:47Like CrossFit in the early days,
- 1:01:49like crossing the early
- 1:01:50days was focused on the tip of the spear.
- 1:01:53It's not wrong to think that
- 1:01:54it should go back to that.
- 1:01:57It's just very hard to focus on both.
- 1:02:01Very, very hard.
- 1:02:01It's extremely difficult, right?
- 1:02:04For so long,
- 1:02:05Greg did a great job of trying
- 1:02:07to balance all those things.
- 1:02:10But it's tough to do.
- 1:02:11And so, you know,
- 1:02:12a lot of people are
- 1:02:13attracted to just that
- 1:02:15two-dimensional definition
- 1:02:16of fitness of area under the curve,
- 1:02:18right?
- 1:02:19Power output across broad
- 1:02:21times and modal domains.
- 1:02:23But they fail to see
- 1:02:26that potentially some of the
- 1:02:27things that are giving them
- 1:02:29fitness now may be
- 1:02:31detrimental to their health later.
- 1:02:35And so all we're trying to
- 1:02:36do is we're trying to bring
- 1:02:38that third axis, that age axis,
- 1:02:41and bring that back into
- 1:02:42the forefront of the conversation.
- 1:02:45And we say,
- 1:02:45these are the things that you
- 1:02:46need to focus on to not ignore fitness,
- 1:02:49not ignore fitness.
- 1:02:51But if you want to
- 1:02:53live a long and healthy and
- 1:02:55functional life here's what
- 1:02:58you need to focus on I'm
- 1:03:01going to finish up with
- 1:03:02this I looked in the
- 1:03:04columbus area uh here in
- 1:03:06ohio we have we have a
- 1:03:07couple metfix gyms that are
- 1:03:09still crossfit affiliates
- 1:03:12they are both um and if you
- 1:03:14go to their website they
- 1:03:15list both crossfit courses
- 1:03:17and metfix and um and
- 1:03:19they're working seamlessly
- 1:03:21together totally
- 1:03:23Um,
- 1:03:24my first question is if I'm just a
- 1:03:26person working out in my
- 1:03:27garage and I want to do
- 1:03:28Metfix along with my workouts,
- 1:03:31is it free for me to go to
- 1:03:32this website every day and
- 1:03:33grab this information?
- 1:03:34Absolutely.
- 1:03:35Absolutely.
- 1:03:36Yeah.
- 1:03:37If I'm an affiliate, what do I get now?
- 1:03:41I, that's a question to comment.
- 1:03:42I went to your FAQ.
- 1:03:44You actually put a list on
- 1:03:45your FAQ of what you get as
- 1:03:47a Metfix affiliate.
- 1:03:50Yeah, exactly.
- 1:03:50So it's up there as well.
- 1:03:51There's tons of stuff we're doing.
- 1:03:53We've got an incredible tech
- 1:03:54team on the back end.
- 1:03:55They're building super
- 1:03:57robust dashboards for the
- 1:03:59affiliates to have access
- 1:04:01to message boards and
- 1:04:04collaboration opportunities
- 1:04:06and exclusive information to...
- 1:04:09to interviews and and you
- 1:04:11know podcasts that we do
- 1:04:12more for like back end we
- 1:04:14also have a like broken
- 1:04:15science as a medical
- 1:04:16society so what's really
- 1:04:18cool about the medical
- 1:04:19society it's a lot of
- 1:04:20patients are members with
- 1:04:21that but also a lot of doctors
- 1:04:23so they get some of that
- 1:04:24backend access as well.
- 1:04:26And there's also opportunity
- 1:04:27for collaboration and
- 1:04:29interaction between the
- 1:04:30medical society and between
- 1:04:32the affiliates as well.
- 1:04:33Um, so we really try to,
- 1:04:35we're trying to foster this.
- 1:04:36I mean, it's, you know,
- 1:04:37it's all going to sound super familiar,
- 1:04:39but you know, this grassroots, um,
- 1:04:43community that, but,
- 1:04:45but really focusing on that, again,
- 1:04:47that interaction between
- 1:04:48the trainer and the medical
- 1:04:50professional and, um,
- 1:04:53and the needs of the individual,
- 1:04:55that individual client and
- 1:04:58arming the trainer with the
- 1:04:59knowledge necessary to make
- 1:05:03the changes in the client,
- 1:05:04but also garner the trust
- 1:05:06from the medical
- 1:05:07professionals so that they
- 1:05:08can foster that healthy and
- 1:05:09professional interaction moving forward.
- 1:05:11So that's really what we're trying to do.
- 1:05:13So you see on the Broken
- 1:05:15Science YouTube page,
- 1:05:17there's a lot of ten minute
- 1:05:20abbreviated versions of a
- 1:05:21lot of the interviews that we do.
- 1:05:23There was an interview today,
- 1:05:25I want to say with Benjamin Bickman,
- 1:05:29who's big in the nutrition space.
- 1:05:30He's a doctor.
- 1:05:31And that once uploaded,
- 1:05:33it'll get to the YouTube page.
- 1:05:35It'll be like a ten minute
- 1:05:36condensed version.
- 1:05:37And then if you're a member
- 1:05:38of the Medical Society or the affiliate,
- 1:05:40you get full access on the back end.
- 1:05:43Greg does weekly calls with
- 1:05:44the affiliates as well, Metfix affiliates,
- 1:05:46and they get to ask him questions.
- 1:05:48And those are kind of led by Dale,
- 1:05:51Dale King,
- 1:05:51who most people in this space know.
- 1:05:54Great dude.
- 1:05:54And he's leading the affiliates.
- 1:05:55And, you know,
- 1:05:57Dale kind of fostered and
- 1:05:59host that conversation
- 1:06:00between the affiliates and
- 1:06:02and Greg on that that weekly basis.
- 1:06:04And
- 1:06:06And then we're going to
- 1:06:07start doing interactions
- 1:06:08between the seminar staff
- 1:06:10and the affiliates as well,
- 1:06:12do sort of private
- 1:06:12interviews to talk about
- 1:06:14implementation of this
- 1:06:15stuff and how you can make
- 1:06:18small changes in the gym to
- 1:06:19impact in a big way out in
- 1:06:21the communities and not
- 1:06:22just inside the four walls
- 1:06:23of your own facility.
- 1:06:25Final question,
- 1:06:26I'll let you go is... I know,
- 1:06:28I got all day here, Scott.
- 1:06:31I wish I did.
- 1:06:32I've got a meeting.
- 1:06:32I know.
- 1:06:33Okay, okay.
- 1:06:35Final question is,
- 1:06:37with CrossFit up for sale,
- 1:06:40we don't know who the new buyers are.
- 1:06:41There's speculation.
- 1:06:43There's all this stuff going on.
- 1:06:44The suspense is killing me.
- 1:06:47Could you see a day where
- 1:06:50Metfix and CrossFit work
- 1:06:52hand in hand moving forward?
- 1:06:55I don't see why not.
- 1:06:59Yeah.
- 1:06:59You're asking if it's plausible.
- 1:07:00Of course it's plausible.
- 1:07:02Anything's plausible.
- 1:07:02Right.
- 1:07:05Right.
- 1:07:05We didn't think it was
- 1:07:06plausible that be like Greg
- 1:07:07was going to sell CrossFit.
- 1:07:11Look what happened.
- 1:07:13If you truly are like that
- 1:07:16next level of nutrition.
- 1:07:18Yeah.
- 1:07:18And that's the missing piece.
- 1:07:19And that's what Greg
- 1:07:20identified as the PC didn't
- 1:07:22get right the first time.
- 1:07:24Yeah.
- 1:07:24Right.
- 1:07:27I wouldn't even say that.
- 1:07:29He got it right.
- 1:07:30He's just, there wasn't room for,
- 1:07:31there wasn't room to talk about the rest.
- 1:07:33There's so much mind blowing
- 1:07:35stuff happening at the base level.
- 1:07:37It's like you can only get
- 1:07:38so far and now we're just
- 1:07:39taking it to the next level.
- 1:07:40I didn't mean it as a criticism.
- 1:07:42I meant it as like the structure,
- 1:07:44the structure that was developed,
- 1:07:45developed only gave
- 1:07:47nutrition an hour in the L one.
- 1:07:49Yeah, exactly.
- 1:07:49Right.
- 1:07:50And that is a misstep.
- 1:07:52now looking back greg thinks
- 1:07:54there needs to be more
- 1:07:55emphasis on the nutrition
- 1:07:57aspect of things sure right
- 1:08:00it it does seem to want to
- 1:08:03fit hand in glove if that's
- 1:08:05truly the case it does it
- 1:08:09fits perfectly um yeah
- 1:08:17I want to ask these other questions,
- 1:08:20but I really just can't today.
- 1:08:24If you'll have me back,
- 1:08:26we can make the time and follow up.
- 1:08:28Yeah, let's do that.
- 1:08:29We'll let people kind of let
- 1:08:32this sit in for a little bit,
- 1:08:33and then I'll reach out to
- 1:08:34you and have you back.
- 1:08:35And maybe they can come with
- 1:08:37their questions,
- 1:08:38and we'll have more of a Q&A next time.
- 1:08:40Awesome.
- 1:08:40I love it.
- 1:08:42pete thank you very much for
- 1:08:43taking the time out um I
- 1:08:45could have gone another I
- 1:08:46still have a ton of notes
- 1:08:47myself um but I could have
- 1:08:49got another hour but we're
- 1:08:51just crammed for time today
- 1:08:53and so glad you took the
- 1:08:54time out for us it's been
- 1:08:56an absolute pleasure thank
