- 0:14Hello and welcome to Arguing Ever After.
- 0:16I am Luke and this is my smoking hot wife Amber.
- 0:19Hello. Together we're the Lord and Lady
- 0:22who lock horns. The counting Countess of
- 0:24contention. The Duke and the Duchess of
- 0:26Disagreement. And the King and Queen of
- 0:28quarrels. And our podcast.
- 0:30We bicker about all things big and small, and the audience vote
- 0:34determines who the winner is. Many of our topics are
- 0:37frequently submitted by our listeners, which we like, and we
- 0:41love new ideas, so if you have some you want to share with us,
- 0:43please send it to us at arguingeverafter@gmail.com or
- 0:47drop it in the comments. As a matter of fact, today's
- 0:50topic was submitted by listeners, so when we get to it,
- 0:54it'll be exciting for you all to hear an idea that was submitted
- 0:58by one of you. Boom.
- 1:00And here we are, episode 46. 46. We're around in a corner.
- 1:05I feel like we're getting real close to a year are.
- 1:08We over the hill. Yeah, yeah, I think so.
- 1:11I mean, what is over the hill? Is it more than halfway?
- 1:14More than halfway. So I think that I think we're
- 1:18doing we're. Just getting started.
- 1:19I think we are just getting started, but like I think of our
- 1:23podcast in different segments of time and I think like the one
- 1:27year like that's there's huge accolades for hitting one year.
- 1:33Is that our baby phase? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:36It's where we've figured out everything.
- 1:37And by then, that's one year it'll be the best it'll.
- 1:41Possibly get you said we've figured out everything.
- 1:44Everything it's as good as it'll get.
- 1:46Well, well, maybe not. That's fine.
- 1:49Hopefully we'll have learned more, or we'll continue to learn
- 1:52things and get some new. Our audio quality has gotten
- 1:55remarkably better. It has, yes.
- 1:58It really has. Microphones are useful.
- 2:00Yeah. So I think that's pretty
- 2:02awesome. Who knows what else we'll come
- 2:05up with. Maybe in some time we'll have
- 2:08enough of, I don't know, a podcast to like, get an actual
- 2:12editor and not the current editor in chief.
- 2:18She's great. Thank you.
- 2:21Thank you. I mean it.
- 2:22Yeah, yeah. You know what else?
- 2:24Is I'm the chief technology officer.
- 2:27Are you are? We have some pretty big titles,
- 2:30big roles to fit in to here. So, and we're just learning it
- 2:35as we go. But as we've done in many
- 2:39episodes when we've been able to, we've decided that we want
- 2:42to say hello to any new countries, and I'm really
- 2:45excited about this one. Me too.
- 2:48Because Luke has no idea, I have told him he knows how to say
- 2:53hello in this country's language.
- 2:57Well, that is a small list, so. Well, or if I've done it.
- 3:03Before. Or you've done it before.
- 3:06So I might need to remember something great.
- 3:09I wrote. I mean, like, OK, so here we go
- 3:12for your clues. This country holds an Intangible
- 3:16Cultural Heritage award from UNESCO for their pride in
- 3:20falconry. Did you know that Falcons even
- 3:24get their own passport here? What?
- 3:29Falconry, where they fly the birds.
- 3:31And then I know what falconry is.
- 3:34I wanted to be a Falconer when I saw an episode of About
- 3:37Falconing on, I don't know, probably Discovery Channel, back
- 3:40when it was cool and it was about animals.
- 3:42I know. Well, when I saw this, I
- 3:44thought, this is completely a fact for Luke, because like,
- 3:48that's something you're really interested in.
- 3:51Hold on, I'm not the only one who doesn't want a Falcon.
- 3:55This is why I'm saying this. Seriously, people listening, I
- 3:58really mean, I mean this. Go into the comments and tell me
- 4:02whether I'm a crazy person and whether you too would also like
- 4:05to own a pet Falcon that did stuff for you that was super
- 4:08sweet. They have animal hospitals there
- 4:11that help over 11,000 birds every year.
- 4:16Falcons. Siberia.
- 4:18OK, so then, then now the next answer or.
- 4:23Tibetan. Or clue is this country is home
- 4:27to people. It's it's ends with a Stan or a
- 4:31Jan. OK, keep going.
- 4:33This country is home to people from over 200 nationalities.
- 4:39Does that help you? No.
- 4:42What? OK.
- 4:43The country. I'm sorry, the country.
- 4:45The country, yes. 200 Nationals. 200 yes, yes.
- 4:50Well, that's a lot. It is a lot.
- 4:52This last clue that I have prepared might get you there and
- 4:58if not, I have one more that. I even know Will.
- 4:59Get you there. OK, so the world.
- 5:02Azerbaijan. OK, Are you ready?
- 5:05The world. Turkmenistan.
- 5:07Are you ready? You just keep shouting places.
- 5:10OK, but Are you ready now? Did I get it yet?
- 5:12The world's largest. You've told me not to tell you
- 5:14if you got it or not. So.
- 5:16Suspense is killing me. So the world's largest man made
- 5:20island is there, with over 120 million cubic meters of sand to
- 5:28construct. That's the that's the the United
- 5:33Arab Emirates. You're right.
- 5:35What? Yes they have.
- 5:36They're the the best at Falcons. They are the best at falconry.
- 5:40They have the most Falcon winning, yes.
- 5:42I had no idea. Yes, yes.
- 5:45So I promised that you know how to say hello there and I wrote
- 5:49it down. No, don't.
- 5:49I'm gonna. This is another part of the
- 5:51quiz. OK, how do you say hello there?
- 5:54Assalamu Alaikum. You are right.
- 5:58Oh my gosh, all the winning on this.
- 6:00One that was great. Let's do that again.
- 6:02It felt good. I bet it really did.
- 6:04It feels good to win and but I I promise you all, Luke had no
- 6:08knowledge of that beforehand. They're the most balcony place.
- 6:13Yes, my final. The most balcony place.
- 6:16I mean, I don't know, it's a big place.
- 6:19But my final clue, if you wouldn't have gotten the man
- 6:22made island. Well, I didn't write it down.
- 6:23Oh, OK. I was that they have the world's
- 6:26tallest building and I knew you would have gotten it then.
- 6:28Yeah, so, but it's called. The Borge.
- 6:32Yeah, I don't like that. I don't know, but in.
- 6:35Dubai. Yes it is.
- 6:37Yes it is. And you know what else is great
- 6:39about Dubai? Tell me.
- 6:41Dubai Chocolate. You know what else is a fact
- 6:45about Dubai? What?
- 6:46We have a very, very close friend whose brother lives
- 6:49there. We do.
- 6:50Yes. Yes.
- 6:51And his family. That's very true.
- 6:55Yeah. It's also one of the safest
- 6:56places in the world. I've learned all sorts of things
- 7:00about it. But.
- 7:01I have other comments. OK.
- 7:04Well, all right. Safe for who?
- 7:06Well, OK, so but welcome and we're so glad that you're
- 7:10listening. Welcome and we hope you this is
- 7:13clearly at least your second time listening, but you know,
- 7:17maybe go back to some of our other old episodes and see what
- 7:20else we have to offer. Yeah, let's get the take on a
- 7:24lot of the episodes of what your opinion is.
- 7:26Yeah, yeah. They're in the UAB, Yeah, with
- 7:30your giant fancy water slides in your indoor winter Wonderland.
- 7:34Did you know that? It said.
- 7:35UAB. Is it UAB or UAE CYE?
- 7:38Oh, you're right. Sorry, United Arab Emirates.
- 7:41Oh, look at that. I knew.
- 7:42It's been a long week. OK, now did you know I have a
- 7:46trivia for you? No, it's not a trivia.
- 7:48It's just a fact. OK, did.
- 7:50You know that they have in Dubai an indoor Winter Park where they
- 7:56have it super, super cold and they have like an indoor ski
- 7:59slope and you can go skiing and maybe other snow or ice related
- 8:04activities. Don't they have like some huge
- 8:07indoor snorkeling thing where you can?
- 8:10No idea. So.
- 8:12They have the ocean. No, no, I know.
- 8:14I know, I know. Maybe they do I, I don't know.
- 8:17We really love Amazing Race a lot, that's true, and they've
- 8:21been there before. Shout out Amazing Race.
- 8:23Yeah. Phil, if you're listening, hit
- 8:26us up buddy. We're.
- 8:27Ready. Hit Luke up, not me.
- 8:30Not you, because you won't be able to talk.
- 8:32No. Well, Oh my God, I would die.
- 8:34Yeah, I meant I meant to be on The Amazing Race.
- 8:37I couldn't. I couldn't do it.
- 8:39I mean, there's some things I could do, but the second they're
- 8:42like do something. Hi.
- 8:43I'd be like, there is my chance it's gone.
- 8:45I know I got to go on it one time.
- 8:47Yeah, yeah, I just got to get the right insane person who
- 8:51wants to take a few months out of their lives and.
- 8:54Any listeners? Are you good competitors, Luke?
- 8:57Luke is looking for? Can you jump out of an airplane?
- 9:01Yeah, that's that is. Important question number one
- 9:03Can you solve puzzles? Question number 2 Will you crack
- 9:06under pressure? Question #3.
- 9:09You know how they have their tags of like, you know, you
- 9:12know, married couple or firefighters.
- 9:14It could be podcaster and listener.
- 9:17Boom. Right there.
- 9:18I mean, who doesn't want to be the listener?
- 9:20No offense, I don't know that I want to go with a totally random
- 9:22person, but that could be kind of a fun adventure.
- 9:24That that'd be really fun, yeah. Oh, that might be fun.
- 9:28Yeah, so you know, anyone who's listening to like, man, I'd love
- 9:30to be on that show. Has to be a guy though.
- 9:33Oh, does it? Cause girls are gross.
- 9:36You know, over half of our audience, probably like 80% of
- 9:42our audience is girls, so. Girls have cooties.
- 9:46I'm. Just it's actually way more than
- 9:47probably that even right now. But that's OK.
- 9:50That's what Luke thinks of you. So next time you vote.
- 9:54Wow, like as if you need the help.
- 9:56I mean. Like what?
- 10:00The rinks might be closing, but that's neither here nor there.
- 10:05That's definitely here. I'm just, I'm just thinking that
- 10:09maybe anyhow, so any, any good competitors, you know, if you're
- 10:13feeling it, if you feel like you might want to, you know, race,
- 10:16I'd love to race around the world.
- 10:18I just, a lot of those challenges are just not made
- 10:21for, not made for me. You're not.
- 10:23You're not even ready for a ladder.
- 10:25I mean, I don't really like. I mean, yeah, yeah.
- 10:28Remember when you had to help me?
- 10:30I did and did. Did I not help you with the
- 10:32Christmas lights? I feel like you went 1/2 to 3/4
- 10:35of the way up the ladder to one level of our roof and we're
- 10:38done. I mean, also, let's just talk
- 10:41about the fact that it was Christmas lights, you know?
- 10:45Wow. If our if like there was
- 10:47something. On Halloween lights you would
- 10:48have been way more helpful. No, because I don't put them up
- 10:51there, but and she's. Like no.
- 10:56The answer to that is no. OK, if there was a cat stuck on
- 11:00top of our roof, I maybe I'd go up there like if there was like
- 11:03a good like this is, you know? A good cat, not a not a bad cat.
- 11:09What if there was a bad cat stuck?
- 11:10I'd still go up there, but also I feel like a cat wouldn't get
- 11:13stuck on our roof because it's not.
- 11:15It's not. Likely.
- 11:16But you know, I mean, I would, I would contemplate it for sure.
- 11:20Speaking of things on roofs, the other day you saw a duck on the
- 11:23roof at our neighbor's house and you were really fascinated by
- 11:26that. It was just sitting there on the
- 11:27top of the roof looking off into the distance.
- 11:30Yeah, kind of like that was crazy.
- 11:32Looks kind of like a rooster perched up there, you know?
- 11:35Or like a Falcon. Or a Falcon?
- 11:38No, they're taller. Yeah, and their their shape is a
- 11:43lot different. Oh, I didn't mean it looked like
- 11:46a Falcon. Well, because it did.
- 11:48It looked. Very much like a duck, because
- 11:50it was duck. Yes, well, and so there you go.
- 11:53There you go. As a matter of fact, duck
- 11:55talking about ducks, which has nothing to do with anything.
- 11:58The other day I was at a a garden supply store with my mom
- 12:03shopping for plants for Mother's Day.
- 12:05Shout out to the moms. Yeah, which is a little late,
- 12:08but you know what? It can be Mother's Day every day
- 12:10we're. Still in a lot Mother's Day.
- 12:12It can't be Mother's Day every day.
- 12:14Well, anyhow, so we were there and there was this woman who was
- 12:17shopping for plants and she had like a little tote to clear tote
- 12:21and she had a duck in her tote. And you know, we were all
- 12:25sitting there like, well, you know, why?
- 12:27Why is this duck in her tote? You know, and someone said, oh,
- 12:29maybe it's an emotional support duck, but we, I, my opinion is
- 12:33that she probably was just buying the duck because they
- 12:36also had a farm there. But she told me that wait.
- 12:39They sell ducks there. I I don't think they do as like
- 12:42a general practice, but maybe if you were in it's.
- 12:45A far VIP. It's a farm as well, so like.
- 12:49She was AVIP. Yeah, I don't know, but she was
- 12:51trying to talk me into getting ducks, and she told me that
- 12:54ducks, just like dogs, get the zoomies, and she has ducks and
- 12:59dogs, and so they'll get the zoomies around her yard.
- 13:02That's fantastic. Yeah, she told me that, you
- 13:04know, as long as you have three or less, they're really easy to
- 13:07take care of. And I.
- 13:09What happens when you get more? Do they gang up?
- 13:11They're really messy apparently, so it's just a lot more work,
- 13:14but I decided after the research that although I've wanted a duck
- 13:19for a long time, I should not get a duck.
- 13:22I've always been hard set against a duck.
- 13:24They're so cute. Not happening.
- 13:27Not happening. You're really, really, really
- 13:29true. Definitely not happening.
- 13:31No. Nobody wants a duck, so any is.
- 13:35Their farmer. I mean, I think lots of people
- 13:37want decks, but you know, I just, it's not, it's not for us.
- 13:41It's not for our city living here.
- 13:43That's right. But you know, we're pretty
- 13:46cosmopolitan here. I don't know if we could handle
- 13:48like, you know, all those, those farming creatures, but also it
- 13:54would be really unfair for it with our dogs.
- 13:56I like how you call them farming creatures.
- 13:59Farming creatures. They're not so cute though.
- 14:01I don't know. But so that was that was them.
- 14:05The other thing we had done which kind of got the oh, what
- 14:10is that? So recently a lot of people know
- 14:13that the Devil Wears Prada 2 came out.
- 14:16Oh. It did.
- 14:17And we, our daughter, had never seen it before.
- 14:20Or one, never seen two. But she had never seen one
- 14:23before. Wait, we didn't watch 2?
- 14:25We didn't watch. Two.
- 14:26We watched one. Correct.
- 14:27Yeah. So we had her watch one because
- 14:31my mother, who I'd just been talking about, thought it was
- 14:34absurd that our daughter hadn't seen it.
- 14:36It's pretty absurd. She said I was a bad mom,
- 14:38essentially. We've been bad parents in a lot
- 14:40of the movie arenas, like things that she hasn't seen that she
- 14:43really ought to. Well, I mean we've.
- 14:45Been trying to catch up but we don't have a lot of I'm.
- 14:48Not gonna lie, I I and this this might get me cancelled right
- 14:52here right now. I it's not my favorite movie, so
- 14:57you know. That's definitely cancelled
- 14:58material given the current I situation that the two number
- 15:02two just came out. I know, I know.
- 15:05It doesn't have to be your favorite movie.
- 15:07And, and it is, that's OK. It isn't.
- 15:09I mean, like when I was watching it with her, you know, some of
- 15:13the things that were really kind of sticking out to me, maybe
- 15:16they were the reasons I didn't care then.
- 15:18But it was a lot about fashion and stuff like that and so much
- 15:24about fitting into molds that I was just like, gosh, I don't
- 15:30know. I mean, and the thing like,
- 15:32while he's funny, whatever, what is his name?
- 15:35Stanley Tucci. Yes, while he's funny, you know,
- 15:38like there's certainly in the modeling world, you know,
- 15:41standards that people just think are OK or are correct, you know,
- 15:46but he would make fun of this super teeny tiny, whatever her
- 15:49name is, Anne Hathaway, you know, for being like a size 6
- 15:53instead of a size 4 or whatever, you know.
- 15:55So I was hearing those messages which, you know, obviously I
- 16:01don't think that that's what the book of the movie was about, but
- 16:06it was, it was interesting and brought up a lot of fashion
- 16:08stuff and a lot of stuff I just don't care about.
- 16:11Sure. You know.
- 16:13That was a lot of information. I'm glad you shared it with
- 16:17everyone. I thought the one guy was gross,
- 16:22can't remember his name, but the guy that was way too old for
- 16:25what's her name? And then was like, I'm a big
- 16:27shot fashion guy. You should be into me because
- 16:29I'm a big shot fashion guy. Ohh, remember?
- 16:32And then she was like drunk and she was like, I think I'm too
- 16:34drunk. And he was like, let's, let's
- 16:36hook up. Was he a fashion guy?
- 16:38I. Think so.
- 16:39I don't know, I feel like I'm misremembering a movie that I.
- 16:41Just ohh, no, no. He was like a writer, maybe, or
- 16:44a publisher, yeah. But.
- 16:46Anyway, it was gross. But of course, you know, I got I
- 16:48got me thinking about what could the sequel possibly be about and
- 16:51is it really necessary? So you know, I would love to is
- 16:55it? Necessary.
- 16:56I would love to know. I mean, I love Meryl Streep, so
- 16:59don't get me wrong. Like I, I it's nothing I.
- 17:01Think it's done well at the box office?
- 17:03Well, so anyone who's seen it, let us know if it's worthwhile,
- 17:07you know, like is it a is it same as level as the first one
- 17:12or is it better than? They're almost never as good.
- 17:15Well, what if? It is, except Star Wars.
- 17:16What if it's Wait and Lord of the Rings?
- 17:21Oh my gosh. And Harry Potter.
- 17:24OK, I OK Harry Potter I I agree with, but the others are kind of
- 17:29all the same. No, but no I would.
- 17:32What? That's how you get cancelled.
- 17:35Right there. No, no, no.
- 17:37But I do think that Harry Potter was definitely better.
- 17:40I don't know but that that's kind of what we had done over
- 17:44that weekend and we are still not done with all of the May
- 17:49celebrations, May the big month for for both of us.
- 17:54Both my parents had a birthday. Happy birthday mom and dad.
- 17:58Yes, yes. And what did they turn?
- 18:0080. That's pretty amazing.
- 18:02It's. Wild.
- 18:03It is very, very. It's a lot.
- 18:06It's a lot of years, yeah, yeah. It's something that people don't
- 18:10always have the opportunity opportunity to make it to.
- 18:12That is true. Gosh, I can't even like thinking
- 18:16of 80 when I was younger, that just was that's the, you know,
- 18:21the. Impossible future, right?
- 18:23That doesn't exist. Right, right and agreed.
- 18:26And I can't think myself to 80. I mean, but you know, gosh,
- 18:30we're closer to 80 than we are to 10.
- 18:33Well. No.
- 18:36No math. No, we're not.
- 18:37We're not. We're not.
- 18:38Did you know that math was hard? I meant zero born.
- 18:41I don't. There you go.
- 18:41I don't know. There you go.
- 18:44You're right. I mean because being 24, it's
- 18:47super. OK.
- 18:49Yeah, it is a long ways away. Yeah, I believe you.
- 18:53But there were a lot of things, though, back to that movie that
- 18:55had really kind of dated to like, do you remember they had
- 18:58like, this weird phone thing, and they were talking about, oh,
- 19:01this exclusive phone that's $1000, you know, and they're
- 19:04like, who would ever spend that much on a phone?
- 19:06Right. Yeah.
- 19:07Everybody. There were a lot of things that
- 19:10made no sense. I know when you think about.
- 19:13That when you've seen what's happened in the last 20.
- 19:15Years, yeah. You would have never, I would
- 19:17have never guessed that people would spend $1000 on a cellular
- 19:20phone back whatever that was 20 years ago.
- 19:24I mean, probably only very wealthy people.
- 19:27Right. And now I think it's common.
- 19:29You tell me it's common that people do that.
- 19:32Well, yes, I don't know how how often people are plumbing down
- 19:35$1000 in cash. That's to get a phone.
- 19:39I think most people are doing the payment plans now.
- 19:41Yeah, but that's still like I remember you could buy a phone
- 19:44at Target for like 30 bucks that plugged.
- 19:47Into your wall, you know. Oh, well, maybe you could do
- 19:50that. I don't.
- 19:51Know, I don't even know if you can find those types of phones
- 19:53in the. I'm sure you can.
- 19:54At the regular store, you know, like I remember you'd walk
- 19:58through and there'd be all these different types of phones.
- 20:00Like they'd have a Garfield phone and the Clear phone and
- 20:03all. Like I remember walking through,
- 20:05you know, and looking at that. And clear.
- 20:07Yes, yes, yes. I promise you there are people
- 20:11listening right now who are like I know and actually I have have
- 20:15a sister who had the clear phone that she saved up money to buy.
- 20:20Where? You could see all the circuits
- 20:21and stuff. Well, and of course they had
- 20:23them in like neon colors because that's what they probably all
- 20:27had on the inside. No, but that's kind of a blast
- 20:31from the past. And now, you know, couldn't even
- 20:34couldn't even tell you where to find a phone like that today.
- 20:37So that's interesting. Every once in awhile I'll see
- 20:40wall jacks around her house for phones and I'm like, do you get
- 20:43rid of it? It just seems so.
- 20:46Well, you won't, because you've probably got a fantasy in your
- 20:48head that someday you're going to have a wall phone.
- 20:51That's true. That's true.
- 20:54Yeah. Well, there's something nice
- 20:56about something that won't just, I don't know, go out.
- 20:59Like today our Internet went out, but, you know, that's true.
- 21:04Phone. Lines never went out except for
- 21:06on 9/11. I'm sure they did, just maybe by
- 21:09the time we were around they just weren't doing.
- 21:11That anymore? No, no.
- 21:12Yeah, yeah. So Yep.
- 21:15So that's kind of the things I've been thinking about or
- 21:18doing. How about you?
- 21:19What have you been up to? Anything different?
- 21:21Anything fun you wanna talk about?
- 21:24The new edition that you hadn't been expecting.
- 21:29Wow, I wasn't pregnant. No.
- 21:32I don't know that I'm mentally currently capable of.
- 21:35What are you talking about? Your vehicle that showed up.
- 21:38Oh. Oh my gosh, what were you
- 21:41thinking? I was talking.
- 21:42About I had no idea. I was like, did we get another?
- 21:45Another dog did. We get something that I don't
- 21:47know about well. This is not really exciting news
- 21:51for the podcast listeners. I got another Jeep, except this
- 21:54time I was smart and got an older one because it was
- 21:56cheaper. I think that is exciting for
- 21:58people who know you. It's really like lame because I
- 22:01like new stuff and I'm in the car world, but it made sense so.
- 22:06Yes and actually when I said did you get anything new, the Amazon
- 22:10keeps showing up because people have cheap.
- 22:13It's so customizable, but you know, I just.
- 22:16Get stuff and just keep showing up.
- 22:18I actually had something show up that I forgot I ordered.
- 22:21Yeah, I'm not even opening boxes.
- 22:22That's how much it is because I'm like I know it's I know this
- 22:25is for the the new vehicle. It's.
- 22:27For the it's for the podcast, chief technology officer.
- 22:31OK. OK.
- 22:33That's great. I'm glad that you have that.
- 22:36Well, I wish it was something we could write off our expenses of
- 22:40business, but we don't make any money.
- 22:42No, we don't. We don't.
- 22:44But you know when we do, when someone decides that they want
- 22:48to like what is that word? Sponsor us, That's the word.
- 22:52Maybe then we'll start like wrapping our vehicles and you
- 22:55know, and then have that advertisement or whatever be a
- 22:59write off because I think you can do that.
- 23:01You would wrap your bright green situation.
- 23:04Well, I mean, no, probably not. Probably not probably.
- 23:08Well, I put a lot of stickers because I feel like there's a
- 23:11certain percentage of your vehicle that needs to be covered
- 23:14to write it off. Huh.
- 23:16I could be wrong and that could be old rules because they change
- 23:19that stuff all the time, so I. Don't got to be got to be big
- 23:23enough. You know what I thought was
- 23:27cool? You're just going to go back to
- 23:28The Devil Wears Prada for one second?
- 23:30Thank you. I well, because.
- 23:31Because you were done with it and.
- 23:33I no, I was done. And then I just remembered that
- 23:35like the, I don't know if it's really a monologue.
- 23:37It's technically a monologue that Meryl Streep had about
- 23:39colors. Yeah.
- 23:41And like the the intern was like, well, it's just, I don't
- 23:46know green what I don't. Know it was blue blue, the blue
- 23:48sweater. And Meryl Streep looks at her
- 23:50like this is not blue. And then she said it's cerulean
- 23:56or some name of a thing, and then talked about how the colors
- 24:00of the fashion world affected the everything.
- 24:04Yeah. And I even was like, whoa, yeah.
- 24:07I wonder if that's actually true.
- 24:09And is it still true? Yes, yes, As a matter of fact,
- 24:14today I was reading an article as one does, OK, and they were
- 24:20talking about color choices and fashion and things like that.
- 24:24And one thing I found really interesting, it's just a little,
- 24:27just a little fact for anyone who's a server out there.
- 24:31OK, if you're a server and you wear a red top.
- 24:35Red top. You will earn more tips from men
- 24:40than if you wear a different color top, but women it will not
- 24:45make a difference. At least in the US you'll make
- 24:48substantially more tips. So so women who are servers who
- 24:52are listening or I. Probably wear red.
- 24:55Get that check. Yeah, Yeah, it's facts.
- 24:57I mean, this is this was a study done by, I don't know, some,
- 25:01some college, but there was actually it was.
- 25:04So anyhow, that's color and I don't know if AT shirts fashion,
- 25:09but it was just interesting to to note that.
- 25:12So the color you wear can affect the money you make.
- 25:16Yes, in that scenario, yes. Very interesting.
- 25:20But it also depends on the gender, which is sort of
- 25:23interest, not interesting, but also interesting as to whether
- 25:29that type of a thing will. Matter.
- 25:30I mean, I would imagine you could make a similar comparison,
- 25:32although it might be hard to get the test pulled off like if you
- 25:35wore a low cut top versus or a long sleeves versus short
- 25:40sleeves or what I like, I'm sure that those would be.
- 25:43They were testing T-shirts. Sure.
- 25:47Yes, of course. And I'm certain there's
- 25:50certainly places where the outfit makes a difference too,
- 25:55but those places are kind of closing down so.
- 25:59Well, you know what? What?
- 26:02Amber, I have a question for you.
- 26:04OK, right. And this corner we have Luke,
- 26:10who is sporting black on black on Gray on black.
- 26:14On a polo shirt because I wanted to be fancy for today.
- 26:17Weighing in at 100 and claiming claiming to weigh in at 185 lbs.
- 26:25He is coming in today with a total of nine ties.
- 26:29Yep, I have way more than 9 ties. 17 wins and 18 losses.
- 26:39What I was pretty sure that I don't know if something.
- 26:43Nope. Nope.
- 26:45OK. Nope.
- 26:48So that's. Really pretty good.
- 26:51I'm feeling pretty good. Let's get up to a tie and see
- 26:53what happens. Yeah, yeah, OK.
- 26:56OK. And in this corner we have my
- 27:00smoking hot wife, Amber, who today is sporting what I would
- 27:04call a dusty sage green OK from Salem, the Witch City.
- 27:12Yeah, yeah. When you said dusty, I thought
- 27:15you were meaning like crusty dusty.
- 27:16Oh no, I was trying to put names to the colors that was more than
- 27:19just green. Oh, yeah, yeah, I would.
- 27:22Yeah, OK. #Meryl Streep.
- 27:24Yes, yes. Well, so my question then today
- 27:28for you is this and this was submitted by a listener.
- 27:31This was submitted. OK.
- 27:35I'm ready. Is it OK to tell your spouse
- 27:41that they have to change their outfit based on where you're
- 27:45going if you don't think they've chosen correctly?
- 27:49OK. This is a great question And we
- 27:51had been doing a little bit of discussing about fashion and
- 27:53things like that to lead up to this.
- 27:55Of course, as we do, we like to. I didn't really pick up what you
- 27:58were laying. Down I know I have.
- 28:00Really. For a while.
- 28:00And then I was like, oh. Yeah.
- 28:03But we did watch the movie and it was fun.
- 28:05Yes, the both things. That's true.
- 28:07Both things are true. Is that how segues were?
- 28:10You talk about real life and then you weave it into the Yeah.
- 28:1446 episodes in, we're. Gonna have to watch that one
- 28:18episode again where I tried like 5 times.
- 28:20I know, I know, that's OK. So anyhow.
- 28:24Progress, not perfection. Right.
- 28:26And I I'm wondering I actually have a little bit more
- 28:30information I can share than I can feel like found upon during
- 28:33my my answer. Sound and expand as you as.
- 28:38You found a. Word.
- 28:39Yeah, yeah. OK, great.
- 28:40And you used it correctly. Did I use it correctly?
- 28:42Look at me. Nicely done Latty.
- 28:44Duh. I don't know if I'm just gonna
- 28:46briefly comment to the video listeners.
- 28:48I don't know if you're picking this up but I've been switching
- 28:50drinks today cuz I'm feeling a little feel a little variety.
- 28:54OK, keep going. OK, so I my answer to that is a
- 28:58hard no. It is not OK to tell your
- 29:03significant other that they need to change their outfit for
- 29:07whatever event it is they're going to I'm.
- 29:09Certain you have told me to change.
- 29:12I'm certain I have not because here's the thing, 30 years.
- 29:16Yeah, OK, here's the thing. That's right.
- 29:19So while I was doing a little bit of research for this
- 29:21question, because again I like to have some kind of segues.
- 29:25Research I didn't. I do.
- 29:26I do research. This is what we have.
- 29:29I wanted to understand, you know, like what are clothing?
- 29:35You know, like is there meaning in clothing for folks?
- 29:38And the answer, obviously I knew the answer is yes, but it really
- 29:41is yes. It really is about
- 29:43self-expression and what people want to put out into the world
- 29:47and where things matter and don't matter as well.
- 29:52So one of the things that I was looking at me on my other device
- 29:59is busy. But anyhow, one of the things I
- 30:01was looking at had to do with actually the difference between
- 30:05genders and how important we see clothes.
- 30:09And that clothing can matter at different stages of your life as
- 30:14to what you're what, the amount of effort or thought you have
- 30:18into it, and what you're trying to present.
- 30:21This makes sense. And I'll tell you, I was maybe
- 30:25not, I was a little surprised the amount of articles that were
- 30:28talking about research about fashion that were actually
- 30:32through the male point of view. Because, you know, after just
- 30:37watching The Devil Wears Prada, you know, and all of the model
- 30:40stuff, you know, for some reason I was thinking, you know, a lot
- 30:43of it's going to be coming through for females.
- 30:45Also, my feeds in life are very female focused.
- 30:50But it was talking a lot more about like the importance of
- 30:53clothing for men and what it symbolized.
- 30:57And immediately they're like think of Peacocks and how men,
- 31:01how the males are in the Peacock world and how being bright and
- 31:06showy and vibrant. Yes, it could be to scare off,
- 31:10but also is super important. And if you look actually at kind
- 31:13of a lot of the animal Kingdom, probably most.
- 31:15Scarier thing in the Peacock is they're terrifying whale it is
- 31:19call. It's a call.
- 31:20It's a call anyhow, but they were talking about that because
- 31:23it like how you are seen matters so much, right and one of the
- 31:29things that they talked about that I found interesting and I
- 31:32don't think about which is weird I'd.
- 31:35Love to contribute, you have some questions?
- 31:38OK, so that for men a sign of masculinity is to wear tighter
- 31:46clothing? No.
- 31:49Yes. According to the.
- 31:51Studies. And probably only if you're not
- 31:59like very out of shape because you wouldn't just want to wear
- 32:04tight clothes to wear tight clothes.
- 32:06Well, OK, so and it did say that men who were wearing tighter
- 32:11clothes, especially in the workflow place or more fitted,
- 32:16were seen as more powerful than men who would wear baggy
- 32:20clothes. I should get tighter clothes for
- 32:22work. I mean, I don't know, Do you
- 32:23need to be more powerful? Yeah.
- 32:25OK, Well then maybe you do I. Mean you're proving yourself
- 32:29right. So.
- 32:30I don't know. The Peacock must fan the
- 32:33feathers, I'm just saying. It was just.
- 32:35Really. I'm going to immediately order
- 32:37some new shirts for work. No, you're not.
- 32:40Because the other thing is that I've also noticed with a lot of
- 32:44the men that I know in our lives, the fashion definitely
- 32:49seems to be a much more important thing for the men,
- 32:51right? Like in our life, we know a lot
- 32:54of people who are sitting there much like you have been in most
- 32:56of your life. I have to match my hat to my
- 32:58shirt, to my shoes and like all of this like, oh sure.
- 33:01Like I've never once thought about does my hat, which I don't
- 33:06wear, match my shirt, which matches my shoes?
- 33:09I say, does it? Is it OK together?
- 33:12Oh, I mean, I think everyone knows.
- 33:14What I don't? That you never once thought.
- 33:18Gee, I wonder if this matches. Right, because I don't care.
- 33:21I don't care really. I'm more about the comfort and.
- 33:25Kidding, by the way. No, it's I'm actually.
- 33:27If we're going out, you put yourself together very nicely.
- 33:30I but at the. And you do too.
- 33:32Think about your shoes. I see it.
- 33:34OK, so you know how I think about my shoes.
- 33:36When you used to wear them tall boots, you were definitely
- 33:39matching stuff all the time. You had like 30 pairs of those
- 33:42tall heel boots. Well, it was just OK, so, but
- 33:44what that had to do with more was the height of my pants or
- 33:48length of my pants and the height of the shoe so that I
- 33:51didn't have too long of a. Oh yes, I remember you having
- 33:55said this. Yes, especially if it.
- 33:57Was winter because of the snow and the salt and the.
- 34:00Well, it just kind of looks really weird if you're wearing.
- 34:03I don't know. Anyhow, so like that, yes, I
- 34:06definitely have obsessed about that.
- 34:09But as a general concept, when I look at another woman and I see
- 34:14how they're dressed, I'm not necessarily thinking powerful or
- 34:17anything like that. Like that doesn't even come to
- 34:19mind. I might think a woman is dressed
- 34:21sharply, sure, or I will think that, but it doesn't necessarily
- 34:25shape my opinion of her as like a adversary or friend, right?
- 34:32OK. You know now when I look at
- 34:35women and what they're wearing. Like does the research suggest
- 34:39that? This is facts.
- 34:41Men are picking out adversaries. Well, that no, they're trying to
- 34:45puff up their chest and be better than those around them.
- 34:48Yeah, exactly, Exactly. And I think about when I'm
- 34:52looking at my friends, a lot of times I'm looking at their
- 34:54clothes. If I if I'm looking at their
- 34:56clothes, something that'll be like, oh, that looks so soft or
- 34:59that looks so comfortable. Now do you ever sit there and
- 35:02think, huh, that looks so soft? Or I have actually said that. 2.
- 35:07Male friends of mine I was like, that looks super soft can I
- 35:10touch? It yeah.
- 35:11Oh, that's nice of you asking. I usually be like, oh, that's so
- 35:14soft, you know, as I'm rubbing somebody's.
- 35:16Arm. Well, it depends on the person.
- 35:18Oh, OK, OK. Well, anyhow, so so that's, I
- 35:23mean, I don't really care. And at this stage in my life,
- 35:26when I was younger, I was told how I had to teach.
- 35:29Him. Hold on, you said you were 24.
- 35:32OK, when I was a child, when I was a child, I was told how I
- 35:37had to dress. So the second I was no longer
- 35:39told how I had to dress and I had jobs who would tell me how I
- 35:42had to dress like all of these things.
- 35:45As soon as that was no longer a problem, I decided I'm going to
- 35:50dress for me what I'm comfortable in.
- 35:54I don't think my mom ever told me what to wear.
- 35:57A great lucky for you, that was not my world.
- 36:00Wait, are you answering your question?
- 36:02Yes, I'm answering. Your question, OK, I got a
- 36:04little lost there, sorry. Because.
- 36:06You're doing a great job. My point, yeah, See, OK, OK, so,
- 36:10but my point is that like what I choose to wear is purposeful,
- 36:15whether or not it seems that way in the moment to the outside.
- 36:19I've chosen what makes me feel good in whatever way.
- 36:23So if you were to say to me, me, Amber, you need to change your
- 36:27clothes because you don't look, here's what I would hear good
- 36:31enough, then I would feel bad about the choice I made, about
- 36:39how I present myself and my own comfort.
- 36:42So I think that's a really sticky territory.
- 36:44As a matter of fact, I'm going to also say we used to whenever
- 36:49we would go to certain events like weddings, you'd be like
- 36:52Amber, you have to wear a dress. You, this is you.
- 36:55And don't even act like you never.
- 36:57I'm just waiting for my turn, good Lord.
- 36:59You'll get it, you'll get it. OK, monologue.
- 37:02Well, that's fine. You can is it I mean, yeah, OK.
- 37:06You would say Amber, you have to wear a dress and I would just be
- 37:08like, I don't want to wear a dress and I feel like this
- 37:11freaking 8 year old screaming at my mom on Sunday morning.
- 37:14I don't want a weird dress because it's.
- 37:16Because you got issues. I've never said that these
- 37:19aren't my problems. OK, keep going.
- 37:21My point is what I'm doing is choosing to wear something
- 37:24comfortable. And a while back I remember a
- 37:28wedding that was coming up and you said I had to get a dress.
- 37:31And I said I refuse, just simply refuse.
- 37:35I am old enough at this point in my life that I can decide what I
- 37:38want to wear for myself. And I said, as a matter of fact,
- 37:42I'm going to get a jumpsuit. And you said he's looking at the
- 37:45time clock. Check.
- 37:47For those. Done that to you.
- 37:49It's fine. We're fine for time also.
- 37:52So anyhow, I said I'm getting a jumpsuit and you said that's
- 37:55going to be terrible. I pick out the jumpsuit, it
- 37:58comes home, I get it. And you said that looks really
- 38:02good. I did.
- 38:04And you know, I got compliment after compliment after
- 38:07compliment. I never would get compliments on
- 38:10dresses. That's.
- 38:11Fair. And it was from women.
- 38:13When was the last time you wore one?
- 38:15OK, keep. Going because I'm not going to.
- 38:17So anyhow, my answer is no, because I know what feels good
- 38:23for me. And my turn.
- 38:29And I would never want you to feel like I have said you look
- 38:34out of place. Now if you ask me your opinion
- 38:38or my opinion, I maybe would give it to you.
- 38:41But I purposefully don't ask. Should I change my clothes?
- 38:44And now Luke, what do you think? Well, I don't know why I'm even
- 38:47here today. So.
- 38:50Oh. Come on.
- 38:51OK, I'll take way less time. First of all, you have
- 38:56absolutely told me or suggested that I needed to change
- 39:02something about what I had worn based on what we were doing 100%
- 39:07not even a question. Now you probably haven't had to
- 39:10do that at things that are obvious like I'm going to wear a
- 39:13suit if we go to a wedding, a funeral, something like that
- 39:17because I always dress up. So you don't have to tell me
- 39:22that I need to wear something more appropriate.
- 39:24I think that typically the issue is like if you're under dressed
- 39:28for something nice. Now, I haven't said anything for
- 39:33a long, long time about a dress. I'll throw it out there every
- 39:36once in a while. By the way, it's a compliment.
- 39:38You look fantastic in a dress. I don't feel fantastic.
- 39:42Fine, but take the compliment. Get off your soapbox for a
- 39:47second. You look fantastic in a dress.
- 39:51Thank you. You also look fantastic in a
- 39:53jumper, so that's fine too. Anyway, a long, long time ago I
- 40:00had living grandparents. And there were events that were
- 40:03family related. I also had there was living
- 40:05grandparents on my step family side.
- 40:08And these are old fashioned people and like certain things,
- 40:11you just wore a dress to certain things.
- 40:14So I don't think it's that weird because we both grew up with
- 40:18that sort of teaching, which was if you're going to a wedding, a
- 40:22funeral, church, I don't know, pick a thing, right?
- 40:25You wore a dress if you were a lady and you wore a suit if you
- 40:30were a fella. So I mean, that's not that
- 40:34weird. It's part of it's still part of
- 40:37culture today. So it's not like I was asking
- 40:40you to like show up inappropriately to something.
- 40:44It was uncomfortable for you, yes, but that doesn't mean that
- 40:47it was incorrect for the for the event.
- 40:50Now, we have also grown, and both of us now agree that we
- 40:55should feel more comfortable. Yeah.
- 40:56So like where before when we used to go to, like, a Broadway
- 41:00musical, not Broadway 'cause we don't live in New York, but and
- 41:03off, whatever you call it, not even off Broadway.
- 41:06A touring, A touring. There you go.
- 41:08That would show up here in Minneapolis or in Saint Paul, or
- 41:12we would go to like a concert or we would go to a play and we
- 41:16were going to go see Shakespeare at the Guthrie.
- 41:18Or like, we both dressed up a lot nicer back in the day,
- 41:22probably because we were younger, probably because we
- 41:25were closer to that upbringing. And now we're further away from
- 41:28it and in our own right, We have our own sets of rules that we
- 41:33sort of abide by, which is let's be comfortable but also look OK.
- 41:36And so a lot of times for me, that even means, well, I'm going
- 41:39to wear jeans and maybe maybe tennis shoes and maybe a polo
- 41:42shirt like I'm wearing today. And you also dress nicely, but
- 41:46also comfortably. And I don't try to change your
- 41:48mind about that stuff anymore because we've both grown.
- 41:51Now. If we were gonna go to a play
- 41:54and you wanted to wear a hoodie, I'd be like, no, thank you.
- 42:00We're going to a fancy event. We're going to be around a bunch
- 42:02of fancy people, some of whom are still old fashioned.
- 42:05We're potentially bringing our child.
- 42:08I want her to feel like this is a special event.
- 42:10I want you to feel like it's a special event.
- 42:12And clothing, like, does something like when you change
- 42:15an outfit that is you go from like casual to formal in your
- 42:20own mind, it changes things. Like that's a fact.
- 42:24That's one of the reasons I think people, not just men, but
- 42:27women, dress differently for different occasions.
- 42:30It's because it makes them feel a certain way.
- 42:32It's the same reason somebody buys a certain type of car,
- 42:35because it makes them feel a certain way.
- 42:37So if you're going to go to a fancy event and you're going to
- 42:39dress like you are going to your couch, you're comfortable,
- 42:44great, but you're probably doing it wrong.
- 42:46Like enjoy the fanciness of the event.
- 42:48They're fancy for a reason and most people dress up for a
- 42:52reason. There are still things that have
- 42:53dress codes, like not a lot. That's sort of gone for the most
- 42:57part. Like, I mean, most times you
- 42:59don't. Find me there.
- 43:01Well, neither of us really like we've literally both of us never
- 43:04gone to the Lexington. No offense to the Lexington if
- 43:08you're on there and listening, but like they, I think they
- 43:10still have a dress code. They had one back in the day.
- 43:12It was literally suit and tie for a guy I think dress for a
- 43:16lady. They would not say you have to
- 43:17wear a dress. OK, whatever.
- 43:19Anyway, they had a dress code and it was like, well, this is
- 43:21dumb. I don't want to like go where
- 43:22you're forcing me to. Like they'll hand you a a coat
- 43:25if you're a guy and you didn't bring a dress coat.
- 43:27So, you know, like, I don't know.
- 43:30So I think it's absolutely OK. We both have told our child who
- 43:35does like to dress up. So props to her for that.
- 43:38We've both told her maybe this maybe that, you know, try these
- 43:42other shoes or and we all still do that to each other as we're
- 43:46getting ready to go to something.
- 43:48So I'm putting the truth to the lie a little bit like you have
- 43:51told me to change. You still care about what you
- 43:55wear and will ask others opinions before you go out
- 43:59because it doesn't mean you just want to wear a hoodie.
- 44:02No, I clear. When you're going to like see
- 44:05something at the Orpheum or you're going to like a fancy
- 44:08steak dinner, like you dress well because I think we're
- 44:11conditioned at this point and we're more comfortable and it's
- 44:15my time. Oh my goodness, you 11 minute
- 44:20runner. I'm on like 6 anyway, so I'm not
- 44:24going to try to match you. I'm just saying like so, so I
- 44:27think that it's absolutely OK. The answer to the question is
- 44:30it's absolutely OK for a spouse or even a, you know, maybe not a
- 44:37new fresh relationship, but like a deep significant other, a
- 44:40fiance, somebody you've been with for years and years and
- 44:42years that you live together, whatever.
- 44:45Because you should both feel like you're able to enjoy the
- 44:48event. And if I'm going to go to
- 44:49something and the whole time you're dressed so casually that
- 44:52I'm going to be like, second guessing, like, why am I all
- 44:55dressed up? If she's not?
- 44:56Are people gonna think that like, she doesn't want to be
- 44:58here or she doesn't care or like, that would absolutely tell
- 45:02you to change. And I think you should do the
- 45:03same thing. And I think everyone in the
- 45:05world should do the same thing. You should both feel like you're
- 45:08doing what you're doing. So pay respect to the event
- 45:11itself and pay respect to the person you're in a relationship
- 45:15with. I think, oddly, that this would
- 45:18probably go more the other direction gender like, I think I
- 45:22think it would be more common for a guy to maybe not like
- 45:25dress up and for his wife to say like, Hey, honey, maybe you want
- 45:29to throw a tie on or some dress shoes or, you know, I think that
- 45:34would be more common. Our our submitted question was
- 45:38from that direction was, you know, because he'll think a
- 45:42button up T-shirt is dressing up.
- 45:47Sure. And she's thinking, well, maybe
- 45:49you want to have sleeves that go all the way down your arms.
- 45:52Yeah, honey. And hey, this is a Broadway
- 45:55musical. Maybe you ought to wear a tie.
- 45:58Or this is going to be a couple of $100 steak dinner for our
- 46:01anniversary and I'm wearing a dress.
- 46:03You better look the part. I'm not saying that that is not
- 46:07necessarily more popular opinion with our audience.
- 46:10I'm just. Saying I don't well here it's
- 46:12that's absolutely incorrect, totally totally not cool.
- 46:17And if and if your spouse says I don't want to wear that, maybe
- 46:21you want to ask some more important questions like do you
- 46:23even want to go? Why?
- 46:24Why would you do that? Because.
- 46:25Because you're not paying respect to the event.
- 46:28What? OK.
- 46:28Or the person. I I don't think anyone is going
- 46:31to ask someone to be inappropriate.
- 46:32I'm just saying like. I'm just oh, OK, keep going
- 46:35because this is still your 11 minutes.
- 46:38Keep going. Yeah, you got 5 minutes to wait.
- 46:40Anyway, that actually wraps it up for me and I don't need a lot
- 46:44of rebuttal. I just, I feel like it's OK.
- 46:47I don't feel like it's cool to be mean about it.
- 46:50The way you said that it was mean.
- 46:51No, it's not mean about it. No, it really is like, well, do
- 46:54you really want to go like what? No.
- 46:56Well. Maybe you don't want to ask it
- 46:57in that way. I don't.
- 46:58Know well it's just the. Same.
- 46:59We don't have to do that like you and I like.
- 47:02We're far past a point. We both know how to look the
- 47:06part. We both know how to do that
- 47:09while also being comfortable in what way suits us.
- 47:12You're fantastic at it. Yeah, the jumpsuit jumper thing.
- 47:16Super awesome. I think you should wear more
- 47:18often. And I wanna go to more fancy
- 47:21stuff with you. So my argument is you should be
- 47:24able to tell your spouse if they need to class it up a little
- 47:26bit. And you know, there are probably
- 47:29times maybe you need to class it down a little bit.
- 47:31Maybe you come out of the come out of the the room and you're
- 47:36like dressed to the nines and you're going to, I don't know,
- 47:42Applebee's. Maybe you got to calm down and
- 47:45like, hey, maybe toss a hoodie on and some jeans because you're
- 47:49going to be a just sticking out like a sore thumb.
- 47:53So anyway, I mean, it's OK, you disagree with me.
- 47:58Yep, Yep, that's that's, that's the debate.
- 48:01And I disagree. And it's just like, why just let
- 48:04let you do your thing? Because you want to look good.
- 48:07Right, but I already do. OK, so you are wrong.
- 48:15So there you go, there you go, that's the debate for #46. 46.
- 48:20Vote on Spotify Comment yes I'm. Asked a few questions, feel free
