- 1:39Speaker 4: Loot further Ado this week's episode as a guest who
- 1:43Speaker 4: is a pro wrestler, TV personality and author of the
- 1:45Speaker 4: new book Memoirs with Madman, which covers his entire thirty
- 1:49Speaker 4: year career. Just you know, it's not just a wrestling book,
- 1:53Speaker 4: and he's going to touch on that as well in
- 1:55Speaker 4: this episode. You know, we're going to chat all about
- 1:57Speaker 4: becoming an agent for the Jerry Spear Show, creating this
- 2:00Speaker 4: public access TV show, participating in a demolition derby, and
- 2:04Speaker 4: just you know, generally fun, crazy stories. And I honestly,
- 2:09Speaker 4: this is a guy I've been trying to get on
- 2:10Speaker 4: for a while and then when I saw he came
- 2:12Speaker 4: out with this book, I I just finally I was
- 2:15Speaker 4: able to get him to come on and finally he
- 2:16Speaker 4: agreed to and said yes to come on with guests.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Mad Man Pondo.
- 2:24Speaker 5: I tank you man, give him for giving me time
- 2:26Speaker 5: to talk about the book and whatever else want to
- 2:29Speaker 5: talk about, and uh I'm ready to around what you are.
- 2:34Speaker 4: And you know, Pondo, it's it's funny because you and
- 2:36Speaker 4: I have actually met way way back in the CCW days.
- 2:41Speaker 4: I was actually, uh, I was you know, I used
- 2:44Speaker 4: to go to all those shows back then, and uh,
- 2:47Speaker 4: I have a picture somewhere in my room. I have
- 2:49Speaker 4: a picture of us and it's you, myself and Bridge
- 2:52Speaker 4: at the Midget and it was and it was just
- 2:54Speaker 4: it was hilarious because uh, I always use that photo
- 2:57Speaker 4: and I showed it. I used to show it to
- 2:58Speaker 4: people and people were like, it just looks like a story.
- 3:02Speaker 4: That's an interesting story behind because Bridget has a bottle
- 3:04Speaker 4: of wine with her, and it's just it's just it's
- 3:08Speaker 4: just funny because you know, it looks like there's such
- 3:10Speaker 4: an interesting story behind it. And I was like, well,
- 3:11Speaker 4: let me tell you about Pondo and then I'll tell
- 3:13Speaker 4: you about Bridget and then you know, I'm not that interesting,
- 3:15Speaker 4: but you know, at least at least you guys are interesting.
- 3:19Speaker 3: There's a bunch of stries behind that. There's actually a
- 3:21Speaker 3: few of them in the book. But uh, yeah, Bridget's
- 3:25Speaker 3: real cool. Uh we still talk today, and you know,
- 3:31Speaker 3: I get hitting the head a lot. I can't even
- 3:32Speaker 3: remember her having a wine bottle or taking a picture,
- 3:35Speaker 3: but yeah, uh maybe put that on my Facebook sometime,
- 3:39Speaker 3: that picture.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I will do, Pondo. I'll off to find it.
- 3:43Speaker 4: I've been I It got kind of lost in the
- 3:45Speaker 4: shuffle with all my other stuff as I've moved. But
- 3:49Speaker 4: I'm gonna find that again and I'll post that. But
- 3:51Speaker 4: you're just to just to get started, Pondo. You know,
- 3:54Speaker 4: I wanted to ask you how you actually got started,
- 3:56Speaker 4: you know, doing all this, all the wrestling and in
- 3:59Speaker 4: the movies, so, you know, just to get started. You know,
- 4:02Speaker 4: how did you get involved with wrestling? Did you watch
- 4:04Speaker 4: all of wrestling growing up?
- 4:06Speaker 3: Man? Did? I? This was all in the book, but
- 4:11Speaker 3: I'll go ahead and I tell you. But so at
- 4:16Speaker 3: a very young age, I always realized my family is
- 4:20Speaker 3: very reserved and you know, not like super religious, but
- 4:24Speaker 3: just never wanted to be the center of attention. And
- 4:28Speaker 3: me and my brother would always go to family dinners
- 4:33Speaker 3: on Sunday at my great grandma and grandpa's house, and everything,
- 4:38Speaker 3: you know, was pretty calm and and but the cool
- 4:43Speaker 3: thing was when Evan's the Hill Wrestling Channel seven uh
- 4:48Speaker 3: would come on out of Memphis, Tennessee. Jery Kingwaller and
- 4:52Speaker 3: Bill Dundee and all them guys. My great grandma and
- 4:56Speaker 3: grandpa would lose their nuts, like, you know, talking about
- 5:01Speaker 3: dirty motherfuckers, and you know, and me and my brother,
- 5:05Speaker 3: we were just blown back that my great grandma and
- 5:09Speaker 3: grandpa was talking like this. But it made me an
- 5:12Speaker 3: instant of fan of professional wrestling, just a good time
- 5:15Speaker 3: that I would have looked in to them. So at
- 5:18Speaker 3: an early age, I told my mom and my dad
- 5:21Speaker 3: that that's what I was going to do. I was
- 5:23Speaker 3: going to be a professional wrestler. And my mom to
- 5:27Speaker 3: this day still has a paper from my school. Grade
- 5:31Speaker 3: school said draw a picture of what you want to
- 5:35Speaker 3: be when you grow up, and kids were drawing police
- 5:40Speaker 3: officers and doctors and you know, kiss ass. Kids was
- 5:44Speaker 3: drawing teacher as well. Mine had a rig with two
- 5:49Speaker 3: stick people wrestling, you know, get ready to wrestle each other.
- 5:52Speaker 3: And that's what I put. I want to be a
- 5:55Speaker 3: professional wrestler. So my mom still has that paper today
- 6:00Speaker 3: and over the years that's what she would hear. I
- 6:03Speaker 3: want to be a professional hold of the truck.
- 6:05Speaker 5: So then it, you know, I was okay, So I'll
- 6:09Speaker 5: give you this scenario.
- 6:10Speaker 3: I lived in Florida, Illinois. An hour and a half
- 6:14Speaker 3: to the west was Saint Louis, Missouri, which had wrestling
- 6:17Speaker 3: at the Chase. An hour to the south was Carmi, Illinois, Harrisburg, Illinois,
- 6:25Speaker 3: and Infield, Illinois, and that had Edgelo Paco's i c W.
- 6:30Speaker 3: An hour and a half to the east was awas Ville,
- 6:33Speaker 3: Indiana that had c W A which started in the
- 6:37Speaker 3: US W A Jerry K. Mawler, Bill Dundee. Five hours
- 6:43Speaker 3: to the north was Chicago that just had everything you know,
- 6:47Speaker 3: a W, A, ww S and w c W would
- 6:53Speaker 3: Windy City and all these companies. And uh, there was
- 6:57Speaker 3: a guy named moy West Junior and islaman you did
- 7:00Speaker 3: good in school, he would take you, you know to
- 7:04Speaker 3: these wrestling shows. So I've been going to live wrestling
- 7:08Speaker 3: shows the childhood. And then excuse me, and then it.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I was friends with a college teacher named Milton Smith,
- 7:21Speaker 3: and he called me on the phone one time and
- 7:23Speaker 3: said Hey, I'm a professional wrestler in my class, and
- 7:28Speaker 3: I said, please get the guy's telephone number. He got
- 7:30Speaker 3: it to me and he said, are you trying to
- 7:34Speaker 3: get tickets out of the guy? And I said, no,
- 7:35Speaker 3: this is my chaff. I'm going to call this guy
- 7:37Speaker 3: and become a professional wrestler. The guy's name was Terry
- 7:41Speaker 3: Runyan and he was in a team called the SINSATIONO
- 7:45Speaker 3: Hill Bullies. Excuse me, I'm so sorry. I wrestled last
- 7:49Speaker 3: night and I was healed. I yelled and found my
- 7:51Speaker 3: crowth doll scratchy. But so I called Terry rugging and
- 7:57Speaker 3: started school that very next week with a guy named
- 8:02Speaker 3: Blud Chapman out of only Illinois. Both those guys are
- 8:07Speaker 3: passed away now, but they were both the two that
- 8:12Speaker 3: gave me a chance and professional wrestling. And you know,
- 8:18Speaker 3: it's not just on my account, but everybody that was
- 8:21Speaker 3: in that class says that I'm the one that you know,
- 8:24Speaker 3: I'm the only one that went far out of Bud
- 8:28Speaker 3: Chapman school, which makes me feel pretty good. But that's
- 8:31Speaker 3: where it started. It wasn't ourcore, it was just basic wrestler.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Bit So after I learned as much as I could
- 8:39Speaker 3: out of blud Chapman, Chris Here, Chris Champion who just
- 8:44Speaker 3: passed away. Also, I started going down to wrestle for him,
- 8:50Speaker 3: and then Bill Dundee at its furniture story in a
- 8:53Speaker 3: with Thevilla, I started wrestling for him, and things just
- 8:57Speaker 3: took off, and then I met Ian Rotten and Retarded.
- 9:01Speaker 3: We're landing and stuff and here I am today, And.
- 9:07Speaker 4: No worries Bondo about your voice. By the way, my
- 9:09Speaker 4: I'm actually sick right now. So if I said a
- 9:11Speaker 4: little a little bad or you hear me, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 4: hacking or something that that's what that's what what's wrong
- 9:16Speaker 4: with me? But uh, well, you know you mentioned you know,
- 9:18Speaker 4: wrestling school uh, and how you had to get connected,
- 9:21Speaker 4: and you know, do you look around today and you
- 9:24Speaker 4: see all these different wrestling schools?
- 9:26Speaker 3: Uh?
- 9:27Speaker 4: I mean, do you ever, I mean, do you ever
- 9:29Speaker 4: think to yourself, like, my god, it's kind of the
- 9:31Speaker 4: the the ease of a sort of access is so
- 9:34Speaker 4: much easier now because you know they're they're publicly you know,
- 9:37Speaker 4: mentioned these schools now, like you know what I mean,
- 9:38Speaker 4: Like they're positive promoted and then they're all over the place.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Now, well, I will say this, but when I got
- 9:44Speaker 3: into wrestling, thanks were so much rougher. Like I hear
- 9:50Speaker 3: kids today, get trade and not what job or you know,
- 9:55Speaker 3: don't pick me up bodies slightly.
- 9:59Speaker 1: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor
- 10:05Speaker 1: and now back to the show.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Just ridiculous stuff that I hear today. But the thing
- 10:12Speaker 3: about it is when I got into wrestling, then we
- 10:16Speaker 3: got me and my best friend Leslie Thompson, which you
- 10:20Speaker 3: know we always called Flick. It was pondode Flick. Week
- 10:24Speaker 3: after week after week, tried to show these guys that
- 10:29Speaker 3: this is what we wanted to be. You know, we'd
- 10:31Speaker 3: go home with black eyes, bust the lips. These guys
- 10:35Speaker 3: didn't give too much care about our welfare. And uh,
- 10:40Speaker 3: finally Flick told me, he's like, man, I'm not paying
- 10:44Speaker 3: to go down there and just get my ass kicked.
- 10:46Speaker 3: A week after week, I'm like, well it's gonna pay
- 10:48Speaker 3: off Sunday, trust me. Well he quit. I kept going
- 10:54Speaker 3: and now I'm the only one. There was two of
- 10:57Speaker 3: us where I got a small break. Now I'm the
- 10:59Speaker 3: only one. So for about another three weeks it was
- 11:06Speaker 3: pretty bad. But Friday for more students came and things
- 11:09Speaker 3: got easier. On me because I wasn't the new guy anymore.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Plus I'm kind of funny, so everybody kind of liked me,
- 11:16Speaker 3: you know, So everything fell into place for me as
- 11:23Speaker 3: a school. But you know, I don't hate on how
- 11:27Speaker 3: many RESTful schools there are, because the thing about it is,
- 11:32Speaker 3: say there's ten wrestled schools in the area, there's gonna
- 11:37Speaker 3: be one to two stars that go far out of
- 11:40Speaker 3: those schools. So yo, who knows if if they Joey Riot,
- 11:49Speaker 3: who's pretty huge though, if he didn't go to one
- 11:53Speaker 3: of those one out of kids schools, would he be
- 11:56Speaker 3: a star today? So you know those one kid at schools,
- 12:00Speaker 3: just like me, I branched out, kept going and you know,
- 12:06Speaker 3: I'm not a star, but whatever you think about me
- 12:08Speaker 3: is what I am. But uh, you know you got
- 12:12Speaker 3: to have schools for future stars. And uh, since we're
- 12:17Speaker 3: on the subject, I also say, you know, it's just
- 12:20Speaker 3: like what you said, Okay, so uh always make sure
- 12:26Speaker 3: the school that you go to can can help you
- 12:30Speaker 3: get a little farther, you know, uh, the real honor school. Uh,
- 12:36Speaker 3: but Thatcher School to TONI as a school, you know
- 12:42Speaker 3: guys like that that could get you just a little
- 12:45Speaker 3: farther to help you get your name out there. Billy
- 12:50Speaker 3: Bob's school or John Smith School that he just bought
- 12:55Speaker 3: a ring and put up in a barn. And and
- 12:59Speaker 3: you know all dressers have tennis shoes. Maybe not the
- 13:02Speaker 3: best choice. Always make sure the school we go to
- 13:06Speaker 3: have a little little bit of rep to it where
- 13:08Speaker 3: you could go a little farther.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you know that's good advice, pondocs. I. You know,
- 13:14Speaker 4: I even saw that. You know, Gangrel has a school now,
- 13:17Speaker 4: and Moore and Ricky Morton has a school now, so
- 13:20Speaker 4: I figure, yeah, I figure both most most wrestling fans
- 13:25Speaker 4: have heard of either one of those.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Guys, right, But Teachi has a school out of California.
- 13:31Speaker 3: You know, there there's guys that I mean, don't I'm
- 13:35Speaker 3: not fad. That's about every school that people don't know about.
- 13:39Speaker 3: But uh, you know, just make sure whoever owns the
- 13:43Speaker 3: school that they care about the other wrestlers, not just
- 13:47Speaker 3: the guy who says, hey, make sure your dudes are
- 13:50Speaker 3: paying and as everybody else go in and and train you,
- 13:55Speaker 3: you know, always make sure it's somebody who cares about you.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's that's true too. He and you got
- 14:04Speaker 4: to make sure that you know, you're not just a
- 14:05Speaker 4: dollar sign, right, You're actually they're they're they're actually there
- 14:08Speaker 4: to make sure to see you develop and succeed and
- 14:10Speaker 4: and you know, it's not just kind of like, hey,
- 14:12Speaker 4: you know, give me your money and now go fuck.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Off, right exactly?
- 14:17Speaker 4: You know, pond of one of the stories that uh
- 14:19Speaker 4: I can't remember that it's in the book, but I
- 14:21Speaker 4: remember hearing this. You tell the story on on Hanibal's
- 14:25Speaker 4: podcast where you know you wanted to you had the
- 14:28Speaker 4: opportunity to go to Japan to wrestle, and you had
- 14:32Speaker 4: to drive all the way home to make a tape.
- 14:36Speaker 4: I think that I love that story because that just
- 14:39Speaker 4: shows you, you know, determination, and I love stories like
- 14:42Speaker 4: that because it's kind of like, you know, what are
- 14:44Speaker 4: you willing to do or how are you willing to
- 14:46Speaker 4: pay your dues to sort of follow your dreams? So
- 14:50Speaker 4: if you if you don't mind, you know, would you
- 14:51Speaker 4: mind retelling that story just for those listening.
- 14:55Speaker 3: I was wrestling uh Abdullah the Butcher in Overland, Missouri,
- 15:01Speaker 3: and uh I believe I was leaving a legal I
- 15:04Speaker 3: believe I was living in either Floria, Illinois or Louisgo
- 15:08Speaker 3: Kentucky man, I get I swear my brains are beat
- 15:11Speaker 3: out and I forget things so much. But uh, I'm
- 15:15Speaker 3: doing with a butcher. After I got we got done.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Wrestling was really happy with that match, and he said, kid,
- 15:22Speaker 3: you got it. You know you need you need to
- 15:26Speaker 3: go to Japan. And when he said that, I was
- 15:28Speaker 3: a flabbergat of extriptment. So he said, uh, I'll tell
- 15:34Speaker 3: you what. I'm going to Japan in four days, so
- 15:38Speaker 3: if you could get me a videotape by the time
- 15:41Speaker 3: I come back. When I go back to Japan, I
- 15:44Speaker 3: will take your video tape and see what I can't
- 15:47Speaker 3: do for you. I didn't let that slide then, you know,
- 15:50Speaker 3: I was so excited I couldn't sleep anyway. So from
- 15:54Speaker 3: my little Missouri, I drove straight home, got my two
- 15:58Speaker 3: BC hours together, put the cables in, stayed up all night,
- 16:04Speaker 3: make this video tape, and was at the post office
- 16:09Speaker 3: when it opened. I think I rerapped it him on
- 16:12Speaker 3: a Friday, so it was it was going to be
- 16:15Speaker 3: open from nine to noon. The post office going to
- 16:18Speaker 3: be open from nine to noon on Saturday. Went to
- 16:22Speaker 3: the post office overnighted. I remember back then it wasn't
- 16:28Speaker 3: as bad as what it is now. I think it
- 16:29Speaker 3: was like twenty four bucks or something like that. Overnighted
- 16:33Speaker 3: this video tape to Abdullah's restaurant, and then three within
- 16:37Speaker 3: three days, he called me on the phone todayn Champ.
- 16:40Speaker 3: You really want to go to Japan, don't you? And
- 16:42Speaker 3: I said, yes, Sir, I do. He took the video
- 16:45Speaker 3: tape that time, and the next time he went, I
- 16:48Speaker 3: was going too. So not only was he down in
- 16:52Speaker 3: the tree, but he also realized the determination that you
- 16:56Speaker 3: know that that was my dream, never WWE, WC, none
- 17:00Speaker 3: of the big companies. My dream was I wanted to
- 17:03Speaker 3: go to Japan and wrestle it. Forty three trip there,
- 17:06Speaker 3: I'm back. I believe I exceeded my dream pretty hard.
- 17:12Speaker 4: Yeah, And it also shows again you know what I was,
- 17:15Speaker 4: you know, just saying before, you know, it really just
- 17:17Speaker 4: shows you were willing to just do whatever it took,
- 17:19Speaker 4: because you know, other people what it may have just been, like, well, shit,
- 17:22Speaker 4: I don't have anything ready. Do I really want to
- 17:25Speaker 4: drive all the way back then have to edit a
- 17:26Speaker 4: tape together and then send it out, you know what
- 17:28Speaker 4: I mean? Like, so you actually just you know, just
- 17:30Speaker 4: drove back and it was like wasn't even thought. It
- 17:33Speaker 4: was like I had another option. I guess I just
- 17:34Speaker 4: got to do this.
- 17:36Speaker 3: All the way home, I was thinking of what matches
- 17:39Speaker 3: to put on this on this videotape. So if that
- 17:44Speaker 3: tells you how determined I was. But you know, like
- 17:49Speaker 3: I remember, and I had it for the longest time,
- 17:52Speaker 3: and I don't anymore. I've been divorced to broke up
- 17:55Speaker 3: with chicks so much that or they broke up with
- 17:58Speaker 3: me hard. But stuff skip left hied. But I had
- 18:02Speaker 3: the napkin that had the matches that I wanted to
- 18:05Speaker 3: put on it and the uh, the listing of of
- 18:10Speaker 3: how I wanted to do it. So yeah, the minute
- 18:14Speaker 3: he said that, that's all I could think of was hell, yeah,
- 18:19Speaker 3: I can't wait to get hold and make this tape.
- 18:22Speaker 3: And another funny thing, Yeah, when Hannibal, when I was
- 18:27Speaker 3: on his podcast, uh, he asked me. He was like, so,
- 18:32Speaker 3: how'd you get in the pan? And I was like, man,
- 18:35Speaker 3: I was hoping you wouldn't after this, but Abdullah got
- 18:38Speaker 3: me over there. But it wasn't very comfortable, was what
- 18:42Speaker 3: I thought it was. But yeah, he really didn't even
- 18:46Speaker 3: act like it phasedn't And and so they're that story.
- 18:52Speaker 4: So when when you finally were able to go to Japan,
- 18:54Speaker 4: I mean that was your dream. So that first you know,
- 18:57Speaker 4: that first tour, that first day that you kind of
- 19:00Speaker 4: set foot on Japanese soil. You know what, what did
- 19:02Speaker 4: that feel like?
- 19:03Speaker 3: Bondo?
- 19:04Speaker 6: Well, uh, of course this was before cell phone, but uh,
- 19:11Speaker 6: there was a thing at the airport that they had
- 19:14Speaker 6: Welcome to Japan.
- 19:16Speaker 3: I just sat there and I looked at it for
- 19:18Speaker 3: a minute, and then so people walk aby. I had
- 19:22Speaker 3: to take my picture, you know. Of course it wasn't
- 19:25Speaker 3: a digital picture. It was a This was before uh
- 19:31Speaker 3: anything modern, so it was just one of those little
- 19:35Speaker 3: disposable cameras. But uh, I cookite four or five pictures
- 19:39Speaker 3: in front of the side that said welcome pad because
- 19:43Speaker 3: I had made it. You know. That was the trieve.
- 19:46Speaker 3: But there I was. I had three dreams growing up.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I wanted to be in a demolish near be. I
- 19:52Speaker 3: wanted to marry an ation chick. I want to wrestle
- 19:54Speaker 3: with Japan And I pretty well exceeded all three.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Will be right back after a word from our sponsor,
- 20:06Speaker 1: and now back to the show.
- 20:09Speaker 4: So uh, and so you actually did end up getting
- 20:12Speaker 4: into a demolition derby.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I sure did. Uh, my car was decked out in
- 20:17Speaker 3: horror movies like I had Jason Leatherface, Freddie Michael Byers,
- 20:25Speaker 3: tall Man Jack Nicholson from The Shinty. I mean my
- 20:29Speaker 3: car worked looked like uh, sort put out in a
- 20:33Speaker 3: comic book when I was dead. But yeah, my buddy
- 20:37Speaker 3: Sam de Lady and Robert Dulady knew how bad I
- 20:40Speaker 3: wanted to be the Deubliicic Derby. They they sowed me
- 20:44Speaker 3: a car for two hundred bucks, help me put it together.
- 20:46Speaker 3: And yet I got to a deblisic therby.
- 20:50Speaker 4: So so did you end up? Did you end up winning?
- 20:55Speaker 3: No? Not a lot. Maybe maybe I didn't understand that
- 21:01Speaker 3: you're not supposed to hit people hard and save your car.
- 21:04Speaker 3: And there was a guy who was kind of sand
- 21:09Speaker 3: bag and lighter up right around the entrance to where
- 21:12Speaker 3: he wouldn't get pushed up on a log. So I
- 21:15Speaker 3: went from one end of the of the track to
- 21:20Speaker 3: the other hit this guy. And when I did it
- 21:24Speaker 3: not my accelerator off. It was like it was laid
- 21:27Speaker 3: down on the floor. And after that I knew I
- 21:30Speaker 3: was done.
- 21:31Speaker 4: See see, I would have made that same mistake pond,
- 21:33Speaker 4: though I would always say to the idea is just
- 21:36Speaker 4: reconiment stuff as possible, right, So yeah, I mean, hey,
- 21:41Speaker 4: you know that. That's awesome. Man, You're able to at
- 21:44Speaker 4: least do that and again and by the way, that's
- 21:46Speaker 4: a really cool idea for a car.
- 21:47Speaker 3: By the way, it was so cool. And of course
- 21:50Speaker 3: my number was prout of the thirteen.
- 21:54Speaker 4: Wait was so final? Thirteen was the name of the car.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Yet nice number, burnt team.
- 22:01Speaker 4: That's that's really cool man. Uh, would you ever do
- 22:05Speaker 4: another demolition derby? Uh?
- 22:07Speaker 3: Act? Uh? There is a tag team called the Nursey
- 22:12Speaker 3: Brothers out of uh they're they're out of Strictly Faded
- 22:16Speaker 3: Pro Wrestling in Crosshill, ILLINOI and the they demolished derby
- 22:22Speaker 3: where you can have a rider with you. And one
- 22:25Speaker 3: of them asked me if I wanted to ride with
- 22:27Speaker 3: the delic Derby and I said, hell, yeah, I'm there
- 22:30Speaker 3: till January. I'm not going to be driving, but I
- 22:33Speaker 3: will be in another demolition derby.
- 22:36Speaker 4: That's cool. So you're gonna be kind of like, uh,
- 22:38Speaker 4: you can actually give him advice too. You might tell
- 22:40Speaker 4: him my gage, Look, don't don't just smash, don't drive
- 22:43Speaker 4: across the track full speed and smash into somebody.
- 22:46Speaker 3: I think he's done a few, so I think, you know,
- 22:48Speaker 3: he got it. But that was my first pinoing one
- 22:52Speaker 3: and I didn't have it at all again.
- 22:57Speaker 4: But I would have made that same mistake, right. Uh So, buddy,
- 23:01Speaker 4: you know, as you you know, continue, you know your career,
- 23:05Speaker 4: you know you're you're doing, you know, wrestling and all
- 23:06Speaker 4: the independence you got a you actually started your own
- 23:11Speaker 4: public access show. And this is really cool because you know,
- 23:15Speaker 4: I I again, you know, I've heard the story before
- 23:17Speaker 4: and I read it in your book, but you were
- 23:19Speaker 4: able to start your own public access show called skull
- 23:22Speaker 4: Talk TV. And you know it's so interesting. So could
- 23:26Speaker 4: you tell everybody you know, you know how you got
- 23:28Speaker 4: able to how are you able to start the show?
- 23:30Speaker 4: And you know how what what the theme whole you know,
- 23:33Speaker 4: theme and format of the show was well.
- 23:35Speaker 7: Uh, I was wordered for iw A mets South and uh,
- 23:41Speaker 7: an older gentleman like I don't think, I don't even
- 23:45Speaker 7: think I thought about another show. But an older gentleman
- 23:49Speaker 7: was coming over and telling me he he really liked my.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Stuff, you know that I was a good character. And
- 23:56Speaker 3: he started telling me that this wrestling should be on
- 24:01Speaker 3: TV here in Louisville. For he said, there's a there's
- 24:07Speaker 3: a company called not Cannyburg what they was called. Excuse me,
- 24:12Speaker 3: We'll get a drink liquid and uh, you know they're
- 24:20Speaker 3: they're wrestling horrible. He said, uh, you know, you guys
- 24:26Speaker 3: should try and do something on public access. I told him,
- 24:31Speaker 3: I said, well, Ian tells these DVDs, I'm pretty sure
- 24:34Speaker 3: he's not want to get them away free on a
- 24:37Speaker 3: public access show. So he said, you know, I try
- 24:42Speaker 3: to watch public access as much as I can. But
- 24:45Speaker 3: one of the biggest problems with it they could do
- 24:49Speaker 3: whatever they want on public access. And I was like, really,
- 24:53Speaker 3: He was like, yeah, they could cuss and they can
- 24:57Speaker 3: say as much as the airport on there. I was like,
- 25:00Speaker 3: I'm a palled. And then next day he said, and
- 25:04Speaker 3: you know what else they could do. They could have
- 25:06Speaker 3: nudity on there. And I was like, no kidding, and
- 25:10Speaker 3: I just act like I was so disgusted. But by
- 25:13Speaker 3: the next week or two, I had a public access
- 25:15Speaker 3: show on there just by the guy tell me what
- 25:20Speaker 3: I could have couldn't do. But it was called call Talk.
- 25:24Speaker 3: It was one of the best and worst ideas I
- 25:26Speaker 3: ever had. I I was a big Cape trader back
- 25:31Speaker 3: of the day, but I still had a whole bunch
- 25:33Speaker 3: of those video tapes. And what I did was I
- 25:38Speaker 3: it would put together. I had two d rs. I
- 25:40Speaker 3: would edit everything myself and I would have topless or
- 25:46Speaker 3: naked girl sitting on my lap and I would introduce
- 25:50Speaker 3: different wrestling matches and then we would play them and
- 25:54Speaker 3: it was just a high hour show. But you know,
- 25:58Speaker 3: i'd have like old matches from Florida with Jimmy del Rey.
- 26:04Speaker 3: I do believe I had a I don't remember what
- 26:07Speaker 3: the matches was. But the cool thing was I had
- 26:10Speaker 3: the naked chicks on my lap for no apparent reason,
- 26:14Speaker 3: just that there was naked chicks setting on my lap. Now,
- 26:19Speaker 3: one of the rules, well not one, but there was
- 26:21Speaker 3: a few rules. You couldn't advertise anything, you couldn't show penis,
- 26:29Speaker 3: which I wouldn't anyway, and you couldn't show penetration. Well
- 26:36Speaker 3: this was back when web tv. Do you remember web TV? Yeah, yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 3: I had a web TV. Well you could put your
- 26:43Speaker 3: email address up the bottom there, so I put my
- 26:48Speaker 3: web TV address, which would really aggravate everybody. Was man
- 26:52Speaker 3: Man Pondo in the house, which was long enough, and
- 26:56Speaker 3: then you had to put at WebTV dot com, so
- 27:00Speaker 3: everybody it was best. I had to write out that
- 27:02Speaker 3: whole thing man Pondo in the house, so that was
- 27:07Speaker 3: at the bottom, which my every episode, my inbox would
- 27:15Speaker 3: just be full fifty to fifty fifty percent of people, Oh,
- 27:23Speaker 3: I love this show. This was so funny, what a
- 27:26Speaker 3: great idea. The other fifty was all hate and I
- 27:32Speaker 3: take the public aye fist show. I think they was
- 27:35Speaker 3: having a real fun with either me or the other shows.
- 27:39Speaker 3: But I was in the middle of two religious church shows.
- 27:44Speaker 3: That would be a religious church show Naked Chicks up
- 27:48Speaker 3: Our Lap, and then another religious church show, and this
- 27:52Speaker 3: one preacher. Every episode would just you know, right this
- 27:59Speaker 3: he put I'm sure on my in my inbox and
- 28:03Speaker 3: you know, tell me how that I was going to
- 28:05Speaker 3: hell after Yeah, was just all this stuff.
- 28:09Speaker 8: So, uh, finally it got down to being a little
- 28:14Speaker 8: bored of it, and I had a girl, uh.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Use a vibrator on herself and that was considered penetration.
- 28:27Speaker 3: So they called me on the phone and said, I'm sorry,
- 28:29Speaker 3: we're not going to be able to play your TV
- 28:33Speaker 3: show anymore, which because I was kind of bored because
- 28:38Speaker 3: the girls were such a problem. You know what, what
- 28:41Speaker 3: you think could take ten fifteen minutes was taking hours
- 28:44Speaker 3: because the girls had to pee or you know, they
- 28:47Speaker 3: wanted to check their makeup, all this shit. So I
- 28:51Speaker 3: really just let it go. And that was after I
- 28:53Speaker 3: believe seventeen episodes and uh, finally that I've traded, maybe
- 29:00Speaker 3: a month month and a half, that the Public Acts
- 29:04Speaker 3: people called me back and that we was wondering if
- 29:08Speaker 3: you could keep on doing those shows because people was
- 29:11Speaker 3: ordering cable just to watch your shows. And by then
- 29:14Speaker 3: I was done with it. I said, no, I'm not interested,
- 29:17Speaker 3: thank you. But it was a good feeling knowing that
- 29:21Speaker 3: that many people watched it or talked about it to
- 29:23Speaker 3: the Public Access show that they would call me and
- 29:27Speaker 3: asked me to come back.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I imagine because they weren't really going to pay anyway,
- 29:33Speaker 4: so you're probably you know, it was kind of like
- 29:35Speaker 4: a you know, really a no.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Brainer for you, right right exactly.
- 29:39Speaker 4: So you know, Patty, you mentioned the girls, You know,
- 29:41Speaker 4: how would you approach girls here to come on to
- 29:43Speaker 4: come on skull Talk.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Power Doom was running a company in Cincinnati, Ohio, and
- 29:53Speaker 3: there was only strippers around.
- 29:56Speaker 1: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor.
- 30:02Speaker 1: And now back to the show.
- 30:05Speaker 3: So that before it started, first the strippers from his shows,
- 30:11Speaker 3: and then every episode I would put on web TV,
- 30:16Speaker 3: Hey if you'd like to appear, if you're a hot
- 30:19Speaker 3: chick and you'd like to appear on Illo Cactus on
- 30:24Speaker 3: my show, please email me. Well, then the email started
- 30:30Speaker 3: coming in and out of every ten girls, you might
- 30:35Speaker 3: get one or two. But that looked good enough for me,
- 30:38Speaker 3: you know, because it was coming to my house and
- 30:43Speaker 3: you know, we would put up a backdrop and and
- 30:47Speaker 3: film them. But uh, like I said, it was just
- 30:51Speaker 3: like one would say, oh yeah, go into this, and
- 30:54Speaker 3: then you know you're waiting on a one hour or
- 30:56Speaker 3: two hours bomb and you're like, all right, she's not coming.
- 31:00Speaker 3: But when those ones that did show up, you'd be
- 31:03Speaker 3: excited about it. You're like, all right, we got another
- 31:06Speaker 3: episode two, and like I said, two or three hours
- 31:09Speaker 3: into them just being divas, it was just oh rock
- 31:15Speaker 3: at the end of the night. So yeah, I was
- 31:18Speaker 3: ready for it to stop, but couldn't stop because one
- 31:24Speaker 3: I was just I was so into the TV show
- 31:29Speaker 3: because I would go to Wrestless shows and people would
- 31:31Speaker 3: say man, I saw that Call Talk episode. It was
- 31:34Speaker 3: still awesome. And two, I couldn't let these religious guys
- 31:38Speaker 3: beat me. But uh, there was even a point where
- 31:43Speaker 3: I took my own video tape to the public access
- 31:46Speaker 3: station and as I was walking in, the guy that
- 31:50Speaker 3: had a religious show on before mine was walking out,
- 31:55Speaker 3: and we didn't say nothing to each other, but he
- 31:57Speaker 3: stared at me all the way in, and I stared
- 31:59Speaker 3: at him all the way you know.
- 32:01Speaker 9: So yeah, I mean it was time board stop. And
- 32:06Speaker 9: when they called this if I would continue out, I
- 32:10Speaker 9: had already taking a break from it and didn't add
- 32:12Speaker 9: the headaches and the problems with.
- 32:14Speaker 3: It, And I was like, nah, I'm not interested.
- 32:17Speaker 4: Yeah, especially when you're doing it for love of the game, right.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Because I had a friend of mine who was a
- 32:23Speaker 4: He used to do photography, and every so often, like
- 32:26Speaker 4: you know, he did professional photography, you know, he did
- 32:28Speaker 4: different models and stuff. So every so often, you know,
- 32:31Speaker 4: you know, friends of his, you know, would say, hey,
- 32:34Speaker 4: I want to come in and would you give me
- 32:35Speaker 4: a you know, a discount on something. So he would
- 32:38Speaker 4: generally just say, hey, look, we've known each other for
- 32:39Speaker 4: a while. If you come in on a Sunday, at
- 32:42Speaker 4: like you know, I don't know, like noon or whatever
- 32:45Speaker 4: or ten am. He's like, I'll just I'll give you
- 32:47Speaker 4: a whole session for free, because you know, I'm not
- 32:49Speaker 4: going to nickel and dime you. And you know, they
- 32:52Speaker 4: would say, oh, thank you, I'm so I can't wait,
- 32:54Speaker 4: and he would drive to his studio and he would
- 32:57Speaker 4: wait and wait, and they would be like an hour
- 32:59Speaker 4: or two hours late, three hours late, and finally he
- 33:01Speaker 4: would just be like, you know, we're texting him, and
- 33:03Speaker 4: then they would get there and we don't know what
- 33:04Speaker 4: to where should we not do this, blah blah blah,
- 33:06Speaker 4: And finally he just goes, I'm not doing this for
- 33:09Speaker 4: for for anybody anymore. He's like, they have to pay
- 33:12Speaker 4: me now to do this, just because it became so
- 33:15Speaker 4: it became a beast onto itself.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Right exactly. You wouldn't think it would You think it
- 33:22Speaker 3: would just be something stowes comebody coming in, sitting on
- 33:26Speaker 3: my lap. You know, they don't have to talk, they
- 33:29Speaker 3: don't have to do nothing, they just have to show
- 33:31Speaker 3: their kid. But that was just such a chore for
- 33:35Speaker 3: time after time, and you're just like, I'm sick of this. Yeah,
- 33:41Speaker 3: well there's really saying something one of the guys is my,
- 33:43Speaker 3: I'm sick of these titties. Get to that out of here.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that should be a quote from you, Pondo, I'm
- 33:49Speaker 4: sick of these titties. Get him at me.
- 33:51Speaker 3: There you go.
- 33:53Speaker 4: You know Pondo in your book. By the way, I
- 33:55Speaker 4: have to ask, uh, there was a you said on
- 33:58Speaker 4: the public Access there was a you turn it on
- 34:00Speaker 4: one day and there was a show called.
- 34:01Speaker 8: I Eat Poop.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Yes, that was the that was the wasn't an old
- 34:07Speaker 3: guy told me about the shows? I started, Uh, I
- 34:11Speaker 3: started watching the public hatset to see what the guy
- 34:14Speaker 3: was talking about, and that was one of the shows,
- 34:16Speaker 3: I Eat Poop.
- 34:19Speaker 4: So is he? I guess this is a dumb question
- 34:21Speaker 4: on my part. Is it Is it exactly what it
- 34:24Speaker 4: sounds like or is it different?
- 34:27Speaker 3: No, it was just four or five guys doing their
- 34:31Speaker 3: best at like Saturday Night Live skits but failing horribly.
- 34:36Speaker 3: But you know, they they would trade the fuck word,
- 34:38Speaker 3: and you know, they would have a girls with small
- 34:44Speaker 3: outfit on but not totally nude, and and I didn't
- 34:49Speaker 3: you know, it was just funny that there was a
- 34:51Speaker 3: show on called I Eat Poop. And of course they
- 34:53Speaker 3: would come, so, uh, people would like it. But then
- 34:58Speaker 3: when Call Talk come on and there's actual naked girl
- 35:02Speaker 3: and you know, not just Pitt, there's vaginas and and
- 35:06Speaker 3: you know, I'm fucked this and sucked that, and I
- 35:09Speaker 3: don't know, I guess it just people was more amazed
- 35:13Speaker 3: about that and tuning in. I don't even cake, you
- 35:16Speaker 3: had to be a rep if they had to watch
- 35:17Speaker 3: my TV show. It was just so a shock value
- 35:23Speaker 3: that it was on TV that people would tune in.
- 35:26Speaker 3: But they're religious guys. Man. They would talk about how
- 35:30Speaker 3: parable it was that they would watch every episode and
- 35:33Speaker 3: write me, so, you know, it's just just.
- 35:39Speaker 8: No.
- 35:39Speaker 4: I was gonna say their closet fans.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Pondo exactly exactly.
- 35:45Speaker 4: It kind of reminds me a few years ago Howard
- 35:48Speaker 4: Stern uh used to direct people to the what is
- 35:51Speaker 4: it like the Parents Watch Group because basically this parents
- 35:54Speaker 4: Watch Group, Well, on their website, they they had a
- 35:59Speaker 4: they had a collecttion of all the worst things on
- 36:01Speaker 4: the Internet. I was like, oh my god, look at this.
- 36:04Speaker 4: This is awful. We got a boycott this or oh
- 36:06Speaker 4: my god, look at this. Well it accidentally became this
- 36:09Speaker 4: like hub now for all of this like awful stuff
- 36:12Speaker 4: that people could like, Oh, if you wanted something bad,
- 36:15Speaker 4: go to the people in charge of you know, of
- 36:18Speaker 4: of of decency a quote unquote. And it was like
- 36:21Speaker 4: it was just this big collection of stuff and then
- 36:23Speaker 4: they had to like they had they started to realize
- 36:25Speaker 4: all these people were coming to their site, and it
- 36:27Speaker 4: was like it was made it even easier to access
- 36:29Speaker 4: all the stuff.
- 36:32Speaker 3: I do the same thing with there's a there's a website.
- 36:37Speaker 3: It's called bad numbers dot com. And what bad numbers
- 36:42Speaker 3: dot com is. It's a website that will put numbers
- 36:49Speaker 3: that people have called their number their number and uh,
- 36:54Speaker 3: you know, it's like the Microsoft scammers or the FBI
- 37:00Speaker 3: back to rest you if you don't give us this
- 37:02Speaker 3: money scammers. And the reason the web trite was made
- 37:05Speaker 3: was so you don't call these telephone numbers. And I figured,
- 37:09Speaker 3: if scammers are out to waste our time, we need
- 37:12Speaker 3: to waste as much as that time as well. So
- 37:14Speaker 3: I'll go to that side. I'll find a bad number,
- 37:17Speaker 3: and I'll get a bunch of friends around and I'll
- 37:18Speaker 3: start fucking with these cameras. So kind of like the
- 37:22Speaker 3: same what you just said with the with the Howard
- 37:25Speaker 3: stern one.
- 37:27Speaker 4: You know that that seems like that would be a
- 37:29Speaker 4: pretty funny you know TV show podcast Bondo.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I here you maybe I'll i'll I'll try to do that.
- 37:36Speaker 4: And if you do that, just just remember your old
- 37:38Speaker 4: pal Dave.
- 37:39Speaker 3: I'll do it.
- 37:42Speaker 7: Uh.
- 37:42Speaker 4: It was a buddy after you know, you did skull
- 37:44Speaker 4: Talk TV.
- 37:46Speaker 5: Uh.
- 37:46Speaker 4: You know you ended up becoming a producer for the
- 37:48Speaker 4: Jerry Spur Show.
- 37:51Speaker 3: I wouldn't call me a producer. I would call me
- 37:55Speaker 3: a hired hand. I mean I was just getting them
- 37:57Speaker 3: guests and and you know, they was giving me a check,
- 38:03Speaker 3: so and all I had to do was call in
- 38:06Speaker 3: and and of course all my friends or show offs
- 38:09Speaker 3: just like me and was ready to go. So it
- 38:12Speaker 3: was it was a win win situation for everybody.
- 38:16Speaker 4: So so how did they go about contacting you to
- 38:18Speaker 4: come on the show and to sort of be the
- 38:20Speaker 4: hard hand for them.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Well, my buddy a Craft cut on the Cherry's Free
- 38:26Speaker 3: Your Show and they asked him do you know any
- 38:29Speaker 3: crazy people? And of course he showed them my videos
- 38:32Speaker 3: and I was on the show twice and finally they asked, hey,
- 38:37Speaker 3: do you know any crazy You know crazy people yourself?
- 38:41Speaker 3: And I said I'm a wrestler. I know all types
- 38:43Speaker 3: are crazy people. So I just started getting wrestlers or
- 38:47Speaker 3: faiths and putting them on the show. And that's thing.
- 38:50Speaker 3: I know. I got eight hundred dollars checks, six hundred
- 38:53Speaker 3: dollars checks, and I was like, well this was easy.
- 38:56Speaker 3: But just like the sculped Off show, after a while,
- 39:00Speaker 3: just you know, got so pouring because they wanted you
- 39:04Speaker 3: on call twenty four hours. If they needed somebody at two, three,
- 39:07Speaker 3: four in the morning, they would call you and say, hey,
- 39:10Speaker 3: we need this. Well who the hell you got to
- 39:12Speaker 3: get it to at three or four in the morning.
- 39:15Speaker 3: So but they was a demanding you know. And then
- 39:18Speaker 3: when you said, well I don't know what I want
- 39:20Speaker 3: to get, well, yeah, we've been paying you, we've been
- 39:22Speaker 3: doing you know it. If it came bullshit and I
- 39:25Speaker 3: didn't want to do it no more, so I stopped. Yeah.
- 39:30Speaker 4: I can imagine getting called two or three in the
- 39:32Speaker 4: morning and just being look, ay, Bondo, we need a uh,
- 39:35Speaker 4: you know, a couple to come on the show or whatever,
- 39:37Speaker 4: and you're like, well, how am I supposed to get
- 39:39Speaker 4: that right now? It's you know, it's three o'clock in
- 39:41Speaker 4: the morning, and you know there made they made a
- 39:44Speaker 4: halfway across the country exactly. Yeah, so you don't pond it.
- 39:49Speaker 4: What were some of the you know, some of the
- 39:50Speaker 4: crazy people you met while while doing Springs. I knew
- 39:53Speaker 4: in the book you mentioned that you met Butterbean.
- 39:57Speaker 1: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor,
- 40:03Speaker 1: and now back to the show.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Yeah, butter Bean, Rod Jeremy was there for one and
- 40:10Speaker 3: one of the Backstreet Boys. I don't listen to him,
- 40:13Speaker 3: so I don't remember who it was, but he was
- 40:16Speaker 3: just there towards I guess they was doing a concert
- 40:20Speaker 3: somewhere in the area and he was at the show
- 40:24Speaker 3: to watch, not to be on the show. But I
- 40:28Speaker 3: got to meet him, and you know, I mean and
- 40:32Speaker 3: plus if you when you would go to the circus,
- 40:38Speaker 3: it wasn't the circus that would draw me in. It
- 40:42Speaker 3: was the small freak show before the circus, Jerry Springer
- 40:46Speaker 3: show from the green Room. The green Room was its
- 40:49Speaker 3: own free show that I just loved, and they would
- 40:52Speaker 3: fly me in to hang out with, you know, the
- 40:55Speaker 3: people that I was getting on the show. So I
- 40:59Speaker 3: was able to go to Greenroom, the Greenroom, the green Room,
- 41:02Speaker 3: and man, I'm killing you there was some. There was
- 41:06Speaker 3: some strange ones, some hot ones, some ugly ones, some
- 41:11Speaker 3: misshaped ones. I mean that Jerry's Fear of green rooms
- 41:14Speaker 3: was a free show all of itself, and it would
- 41:16Speaker 3: draw me in.
- 41:19Speaker 4: So you mentioned, you know, I actually I mentioned Butterbean,
- 41:22Speaker 4: you know. So was he was he there to be
- 41:24Speaker 4: a guest on the show?
- 41:26Speaker 3: Yeah, but uh, he was in the back with us first,
- 41:31Speaker 3: he was like waiting in line. I guess his manager
- 41:35Speaker 3: had called the Spring of show and said, hey, Butterbean
- 41:37Speaker 3: will be interested in coming in. So of course I
- 41:40Speaker 3: put him on the front row. And and uh, ironically
- 41:45Speaker 3: that was Uh. I got all the guests for that
- 41:49Speaker 3: show except too, and uh two of the guests that
- 41:52Speaker 3: I got wash was the Bump and Uglies, and my
- 41:58Speaker 3: buddy Bubba was like Jacklein Butterbean to get up on
- 42:02Speaker 3: stage and fight him. So uh, you know, just it
- 42:07Speaker 3: was yeah, Butterbean and Ron Jammy. I don't remember why
- 42:11Speaker 3: he was there. He was on the show though, because
- 42:13Speaker 3: I do believe I don't remember, but you know, just
- 42:17Speaker 3: any any little perk that you got, and of course
- 42:21Speaker 3: I would, I would. I got to hang out with
- 42:24Speaker 3: Jerry Eyber once in a while, Steve didn't really care
- 42:27Speaker 3: for me, so I didn't really get to hang out
- 42:29Speaker 3: with Steve all that much. But Jerry Spring was a
- 42:31Speaker 3: really nut guy, and you know, he would talk to
- 42:34Speaker 3: us and stuff, and he would go from green room
- 42:37Speaker 3: to green room and welcome everybody there. So I got
- 42:40Speaker 3: to meet him a lot, you know, be in all
- 42:42Speaker 3: these green rooms, and it was a fun experience. But
- 42:46Speaker 3: when it's time to go, it's time to go, you know.
- 42:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I definitely know what you mean. You know, just
- 42:52Speaker 4: to sort of follow with Butterbean, you mentioned him fighting,
- 42:55Speaker 4: you know, or somebody challenging him to fight him on stage.
- 42:59Speaker 4: Do you remember but being fought in the bral for
- 43:01Speaker 4: All in in WF I do?
- 43:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 43:04Speaker 4: What do you What are your thoughts on that whole
- 43:06Speaker 4: brawl for All thing?
- 43:07Speaker 3: Uh?
- 43:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it just you know, I remember when
- 43:09Speaker 4: when Butterbean knocked out Bart Gunn in like twenty seconds.
- 43:11Speaker 4: But what did you think about that whole competition? You
- 43:14Speaker 4: know that was actually legit?
- 43:17Speaker 3: Ah, I mean of course I was. I couldn't take
- 43:21Speaker 3: my off for it. But I'll tell you a funny story.
- 43:24Speaker 3: Do you remember Bart Gunn won one of those I know,
- 43:29Speaker 3: I know he got to be down by Butterbeat and
- 43:31Speaker 3: I don't remember the situation, but bart Gunn won one
- 43:35Speaker 3: of those brawl for it All and he brought the
- 43:37Speaker 3: trophy to is w A MIT South and he said
- 43:41Speaker 3: he would get it when he when he came back,
- 43:43Speaker 3: and he never came back. So the original trophy was
- 43:47Speaker 3: sitting in the locker room of iw A MIT South
- 43:50Speaker 3: for I bet a whole year. But it was the
- 43:56Speaker 3: original trophy from Bralford, you know, big tall fan about
- 44:02Speaker 3: I bet it came up to my shoulder and you
- 44:06Speaker 3: would think somebody who won that trophe he would want
- 44:09Speaker 3: it back, but it was just there for some reason.
- 44:13Speaker 4: Did he did it to whatever happened to.
- 44:14Speaker 3: It, you know, I don't know, but he and probably
- 44:19Speaker 3: solold it on eBay for something I don't know. But
- 44:22Speaker 3: it was there for I remember a long time.
- 44:28Speaker 4: Yeah, it would have been kind of funny if you
- 44:30Speaker 4: had taken it. I mean, like you're there, you're the
- 44:32Speaker 4: brawl Fall champion, you know.
- 44:35Speaker 3: Nah, I'm not. I'm not. That'd be like a target
- 44:39Speaker 3: on my forehead, faced up my cat. I ain't having
- 44:41Speaker 3: them there pack the shit out of me.
- 44:44Speaker 4: No, I'm just kidding, Pondo, I mean plus you're such
- 44:46Speaker 4: an awesome guy. I can't imagine, like I do remember,
- 44:49Speaker 4: I do remember the brawl from when bart Gunn beat
- 44:51Speaker 4: Doctor Death. That was kind of that was kind of
- 44:54Speaker 4: an upset, but I'm yeah, I mean and they thought
- 44:57Speaker 4: Doctor Death was gonna win the whole thing.
- 44:59Speaker 3: Do you remember that, I do. Yeah, it was pumping
- 45:03Speaker 3: it up. I don't even think buck Gunn had a promo.
- 45:07Speaker 3: It was doctor Nettune promos all to the thing and
- 45:10Speaker 3: that thing, you know, bark Gunn, you know, just knocked
- 45:14Speaker 3: him out.
- 45:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and then uh, and then they had him had
- 45:18Speaker 4: him fight Butterbean, and I mean, I mean that that
- 45:21Speaker 4: was I mean, I mean Butterbean. You know, he he's
- 45:25Speaker 4: I don't know how you would classify Butterbean if he's
- 45:27Speaker 4: like an amateur or a professional or somewhere in between.
- 45:30Speaker 4: But I mean that guy, I mean, he was a
- 45:32Speaker 4: legit fighter regardless when when I saw it, I actually
- 45:36Speaker 4: saw that that fight, and when I saw that, I
- 45:39Speaker 4: and you know, within the first couple of seconds, but
- 45:42Speaker 4: be knock bart gun down and then I think a
- 45:44Speaker 4: couple of seconds later he he just gave him that
- 45:46Speaker 4: right hook, and I mean he dropped bart gun and uh,
- 45:49Speaker 4: I think bart guns like kind of left after that, right,
- 45:52Speaker 4: I can't remember, but.
- 45:54Speaker 3: I think that was his demise. I think when he
- 45:57Speaker 3: lost that that was more or less pick it out.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Yeah, and then and then but yeah, you know, just
- 46:04Speaker 4: to kind of tie this all in, I'm surprised he actually,
- 46:06Speaker 4: you know, left that trophy there in the locker room.
- 46:08Speaker 4: Did do you think maybe do you think maybe he
- 46:10Speaker 4: just forgot that where he left it, or just.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Thinking you have two ships about it, wanted it two?
- 46:17Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that that that's true. But yeah, now I
- 46:21Speaker 4: guess it's kind of lost or it was sold somewhere
- 46:23Speaker 4: on eBay. But uh, you know that that that's interesting
- 46:25Speaker 4: as hell.
- 46:26Speaker 8: Man.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Uh but you know, just to you know, just to
- 46:28Speaker 4: continue along, you know, I just want to say, Pondo,
- 46:31Speaker 4: you know, I read your book from cover to cover,
- 46:33Speaker 4: uh I, And when I heard it was coming out,
- 46:35Speaker 4: I was really excited because again, I followed your career
- 46:39Speaker 4: for a while when I when I used to watch wrestling.
- 46:40Speaker 4: I haven't watched wrestling since probably two thousand and four
- 46:44Speaker 4: or five, right right when I graduated high school. And
- 46:47Speaker 4: I just kind of I just got kind of kind
- 46:49Speaker 4: of got out of it. But but you know, your
- 46:52Speaker 4: your book Memoirs of a of a Madman. It's sitting
- 46:55Speaker 4: right in here next to me. I have some I
- 46:57Speaker 4: actually marked up some pages, so I I, you know,
- 46:59Speaker 4: had some things. You know. I was like, oh, I
- 47:01Speaker 4: better ask about this. I want to ask him more
- 47:02Speaker 4: about this. But uh, you know, where did you start
- 47:05Speaker 4: to you know, want you know, uh get you a
- 47:07Speaker 4: sort of get the impetus to write your own book.
- 47:10Speaker 3: There was John Coffer wrote another book called Revel and
- 47:16Speaker 3: he had asked me. I don't even remember what the
- 47:21Speaker 3: question he asked me, but I had a couple of
- 47:23Speaker 3: paragraphs in that book, and people kept asking John Coff, Hey,
- 47:29Speaker 3: if mad Man Ponder wrote a couple of paragraphs, you
- 47:32Speaker 3: should do a book on him and be really funny
- 47:35Speaker 3: and entertaining. So John Copston kept asking me, you know, hey,
- 47:41Speaker 3: I want to do a book on you. Are you interested?
- 47:43Speaker 3: And you know, to me, I don't know if it's
- 47:46Speaker 3: the humbleness in me or just the the fright of
- 47:51Speaker 3: of nobody giving a ship, but you know I was,
- 47:54Speaker 3: I was really on the fence about that. I don't know,
- 47:58Speaker 3: you know, I don't know about in a book because
- 48:01Speaker 3: I didn't want a book written about me and then
- 48:04Speaker 3: walking in like the dollar Tree and it's it's even
- 48:08Speaker 3: half off at the Dollar Tree, you know, just some
- 48:11Speaker 3: shit like that. But finally people started coming to me
- 48:17Speaker 3: and saying, hey, you should, you should write a book,
- 48:20Speaker 3: you know, and they didn't even know that John Cocker
- 48:22Speaker 3: was making me the the proposition. So when I started thinking,
- 48:27Speaker 3: you know, maybe maybe people would read my book. So
- 48:31Speaker 3: I went to John College and I said, all right,
- 48:33Speaker 3: let's do it. Let's write this Van Man Pondo book.
- 48:36Speaker 3: And when I finally did agree to do the book,
- 48:39Speaker 3: he was also working on doctor G. David Schultz's book,
- 48:42Speaker 3: which is also available, and so it took longer to
- 48:49Speaker 3: get the book written because he would he was really
- 48:52Speaker 3: focusing then on that and there was a lot of
- 48:54Speaker 3: stuff he had to go over. But on his free
- 48:57Speaker 3: time we would meet at Denny's or his house and
- 49:01Speaker 3: and work on my book. And then finally when he
- 49:04Speaker 3: was Dell a doctor D've, we just focused in on it,
- 49:07Speaker 3: got it done and there it is a in front
- 49:11Speaker 3: of you. But uh, I just want everybody to know that, yes,
- 49:15Speaker 3: I'm a wrestler, but this book isn't all about my
- 49:19Speaker 3: wrestling career. Right. I put things that I necked up
- 49:23Speaker 3: in my life, funny things that I did on the road.
- 49:28Speaker 3: I believe there there is a whole conversation with a
- 49:33Speaker 3: Nigerian scammer in there. There's I made it in a
- 49:36Speaker 3: comic book that's in there. It's full of pictures that
- 49:42Speaker 3: a few that I've taken over the years. I mean,
- 49:45Speaker 3: there's so much, so much in this book. And when
- 49:49Speaker 3: John after it came out, John Cosper wrote me, he said, hey,
- 49:55Speaker 3: you know the number one reppling auto biography on Amazon.
- 49:58Speaker 3: I was like, holy shit, are you kidding me?
- 50:01Speaker 1: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor
- 50:07Speaker 1: and now back to the show.
- 50:10Speaker 3: So uh, it showed me that people did really want
- 50:14Speaker 3: to hear what I had to say. But uh, in reality,
- 50:17Speaker 3: I was just the newest book. And then shins k
- 50:20Speaker 3: wrote his and then you know that number one foot
- 50:23Speaker 3: got the shit kicked out of it. But I was
- 50:26Speaker 3: a number one something on Amazon, which is a pretty
- 50:29Speaker 3: big thing for me. So, like I said, you should
- 50:32Speaker 3: get this book on Amazon dot com, or you can
- 50:35Speaker 3: contact John Cobsberg get your own autograph copy at e
- 50:39Speaker 3: sleepwrethl dot com.
- 50:42Speaker 4: And I'm gonna I'm gonna link to everything uh pano
- 50:45Speaker 4: and I just talked about there in the show notes everybody,
- 50:48Speaker 4: Uh po. I just want to ask you real quick,
- 50:50Speaker 4: what is your favorite story from the book.
- 50:56Speaker 3: I don't know if it's my favorite story, but you
- 51:00Speaker 3: read the book, you saw that I held onto a
- 51:03Speaker 3: story and never told anybody. And then finally when I
- 51:08Speaker 3: was writing the book, I was like, you know what,
- 51:10Speaker 3: let's put this in there. And it was the junk
- 51:12Speaker 3: Yard dog story. Did you did you like that story? Yeah?
- 51:18Speaker 4: I did?
- 51:19Speaker 3: Actually that was that was the one that was the
- 51:23Speaker 3: story that I held onto or my twenty nine years
- 51:27Speaker 3: of resting, and I was like, you know what, fuck it,
- 51:29Speaker 3: let's put it in there. And so what's that run
- 51:33Speaker 3: up for everybody? What the Junkyard dog story is? But uh,
- 51:37Speaker 3: that was probably my favorite one that I put in
- 51:39Speaker 3: the book.
- 51:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, we won't ruin the story. But I have
- 51:45Speaker 4: two favorite stories in the book. One is the Abdullah
- 51:48Speaker 4: Butcher story and and the other one is the is
- 51:52Speaker 4: the Joe la Duke story.
- 51:54Speaker 3: Yeah, both those about those are I get asked a
- 51:58Speaker 3: lot about that Joe story.
- 52:02Speaker 4: Good because I think that's hilarious because I can just
- 52:04Speaker 4: see something like that, like, you know what We'll call
- 52:07Speaker 4: it an unfortunate series of events happening.
- 52:10Speaker 3: We just keep getting worse and worse and you can't
- 52:15Speaker 3: at the wrong time.
- 52:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just like whatever could have went wrong in
- 52:21Speaker 4: that story went wrong for for you, Pond, like even
- 52:24Speaker 4: from the get go, from the get go, it was
- 52:26Speaker 4: it was. It was bad.
- 52:28Speaker 3: It was real bad. But he made me a star
- 52:32Speaker 3: at my school, so.
- 52:33Speaker 4: Fail that, you know, Yeah, it's it all, It all
- 52:38Speaker 4: worked out in the end.
- 52:39Speaker 6: Uh.
- 52:39Speaker 4: So you Upando, We've been talking for about, you know,
- 52:42Speaker 4: roughly fifteen minutes now, So just in closing, is there
- 52:45Speaker 4: anything you you sort of want to say to put
- 52:47Speaker 4: a period at the end of this whole conversation.
- 52:50Speaker 3: Well, we didn't. We didn't cap on it. But I've
- 52:55Speaker 3: started my own all girls reftling company. It's called girl
- 52:58Speaker 3: Fight Reffling. He go to Facebook and search girl Fight.
- 53:02Speaker 3: It'll be the first starting that pops up. And uh,
- 53:05Speaker 3: you know, it's a platform for newer girls to network
- 53:11Speaker 3: and get to work with the vet girls. So I'm
- 53:15Speaker 3: pretty proud of it. And we have another one we've
- 53:19Speaker 3: been Uh we did one called Midnight girl Fight. Would
- 53:22Speaker 3: you pretty good for it? So the night before Thanksgiving,
- 53:26Speaker 3: we're going to have another midnight girl Fight and what
- 53:28Speaker 3: that is. We started eleven fifty nine because if I
- 53:32Speaker 3: started it at midnight, oh my god, you can't believe
- 53:35Speaker 3: how many people thought a Friday show was going to
- 53:38Speaker 3: be on a Saturday. You know. It was just a
- 53:40Speaker 3: big headache. So I changed the flyer and uh, it
- 53:44Speaker 3: starts on eleven fifty nine on Wednesday. And it's just
- 53:48Speaker 3: a good time, you know. I mean, people will come
- 53:51Speaker 3: out at midnight and it's still really loud and they're
- 53:55Speaker 3: all having a good time. But uh, you know, pick
- 54:00Speaker 3: up a girl Fight DVD or whatever and see what
- 54:05Speaker 3: we're all about. But girl Fight, that's my my all
- 54:09Speaker 3: girls wrestling jumpany.
- 54:12Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'll make sure to link to that in
- 54:14Speaker 4: this show.
- 54:14Speaker 3: Notes.
- 54:14Speaker 4: Is there any social media sites that people can find
- 54:17Speaker 4: you at?
- 54:17Speaker 3: Pondo? Uh? You know, I'm real terrible about that shit.
- 54:22Speaker 3: But my name is Kevin Kennedy C A N A
- 54:25Speaker 3: D Y. And I'm on Facebook and I do have
- 54:29Speaker 3: an Instagram and a Twitter, but I don't know. For
- 54:33Speaker 3: the longest time on Twitter, I was writing people and
- 54:35Speaker 3: they wasn't write me back, and I'm like, what an Asshold,
- 54:38Speaker 3: But I didn't know you had to put at at
- 54:39Speaker 3: the beginning of of who you're trying to write though,
- 54:45Speaker 3: I was the apt though. But anyway, Facebook is probably
- 54:49Speaker 3: the easiest one, and that's Kevin Kennedy C A N
- 54:53Speaker 3: A D Y. I think just a picture of me
- 54:55Speaker 3: and al Vira, Yeah, me and al Vira is my
- 54:58Speaker 3: profile pick.
- 54:59Speaker 4: Right now, and and I'll link that in the show notes.
- 55:03Speaker 4: By the way, I think, Pondo, I think you're at
- 55:06Speaker 4: your friends cap because I actually sent you a firm
- 55:09Speaker 4: request and it just said I think you were at
- 55:10Speaker 4: your limit.
- 55:12Speaker 3: Oh real, Well I'll delete some people. I don't do it.
- 55:15Speaker 4: Shit. Yeah, thank you you make just make some room
- 55:19Speaker 4: for me, bet uh may Man, Pondo, I'm gonna say
- 55:25Speaker 4: thank you so much for coming on.
- 55:26Speaker 3: Then, oh, thank you for giving me the time. Man,
