- 0:00Aloha. Saturday morning in Hawaiʻi. I'm Mele with what's happening across the islands today.
- 1:39Today feels humid, especially on windward slopes where you'll see isolated showers. Leeward shores stay mostly dry with light east-southeasterly winds. Tomorrow, humidity drops noticeably as winds shift to east-northeast and a more comfortable pattern takes hold. If you're heading to a leeward beach, you've picked a good one.
- 1:56Oʻahu's south shore is running 4.3 feet — moderate enough that you'll want to watch for shore break and rip currents if you're swimming. The north shore is smaller at 3.8 feet, Maui and Kauaʻi are both around 3.1 feet. The Big Island's more sheltered — Hapuna is just 1.4 feet, glass-calm for kids and reef walkers.
- 2:12Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several trails closed right now — Kīpukapuaulu and the Lava Tube Bridge are both down for repairs, and Kahuku Unit Roads are shut. There's also a caution for volcanic ash in the park. If you're planning a day there, check the park website for which sections are open before you go.
- 2:27If you're thinking about a winter trip to Hawaiʻi, we just posted a piece on what El Niño winter looks like for visitors. The 2026-27 wet season is forecast to be drier than normal, with weaker trade winds and smaller winter swell — which shapes how the islands feel in December and January. If you're booking ahead, it's worth understanding how that plays into your plans.
- 2:46Sunday stays muggy but dries out as the weekend wraps. Monday trade winds pick up to moderate strength, and the pattern shifts to more typical summer conditions through the week.
- 2:55Leeward shores are the play today and tomorrow. Grab our Oʻahu beaches guide if that's where you're headed. Talk to you in the morning.
