Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to a meeting of the minds crafted from decades
- 0:05Speaker 1: of talk show experience. An extension of the magic they've
- 0:08Speaker 1: created together on radio in the phenomenon called M & M.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Hot topics in the news and wisdom from life. It's
- 0:16Speaker 1: Mark Davis and Mike Gallagher. This is M & M Extra.
- 0:22Speaker 2: President Trump says Iran is no longer the bully of
- 0:27Speaker 2: the Middle East. Big speech today at the United Nations.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Welcome aboard. It is M & M Extra. I'm M.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I'm the Mike part of M. Mark, the Mark part
- 0:40Speaker 2: of M, on vacation today. We're flying solo, and it's
- 0:44Speaker 2: great to welcome you in to kind of cover a
- 0:46Speaker 2: big breaking news Tuesday together. Sponsored in part by Preborn.
- 0:50Speaker 2: So grateful to Preborn for being our title sponsor. You
- 0:54Speaker 2: can stand for life. And if you do, support Preborn.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Did you know that your contribution will double the likelihood
- 1:01Speaker 2: that she's going to choose life when she gets to
- 1:03Speaker 2: see an ultrasound? That's the whole philosophy behind Preborn. Call 833-850-BABY, 833-850-BABY,
- 1:12Speaker 2: or just go to preborn.com slash mmextra, preborn.com slash mmextra.
- 1:19Speaker 2: First order of business when Mark gets back. We've got
- 1:22Speaker 2: two $ 3, 000 donors. It costs $ 15, 000 to actually purchase a
- 1:29Speaker 2: complete ultrasound machine. And I want M & M Extra
- 1:34Speaker 2: to have an ultrasound machine that we can get for pre-born.
- 1:37Speaker 2: We've got two wonderful podcast fans who've contributed $ 3, 000 each.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We just got to get three more and then Mark
- 1:46Speaker 2: and I will host those five great people and their
- 1:50Speaker 2: guests at a private luncheon in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
- 1:55Speaker 2: So I'm excited about all of it. And we'll keep
- 1:58Speaker 2: you posted as that all unfolds. So Trump doesn't get,
- 2:04Speaker 2: or Iran doesn't get to be the bully of the
- 2:06Speaker 2: Middle East anymore. How about that? How about them apples, huh?
- 2:11Speaker 2: What a speech. If you watch CNN, you didn't see it.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Because CNN is throwing a hissy fit. CNN is engaged
- 2:22Speaker 2: in a full-fledged meltdown temper tantrum.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Why?
- 2:28Speaker 2: Well, because earlier in the week, Trump decided to kick CNN, MSNOW,
- 2:32Speaker 2: and Politico out of the press access credentialing that the
- 2:37Speaker 2: White House reporters typically receive. And so for a while
- 2:41Speaker 2: there yesterday, they were all going to boycott Trump. Well,
- 2:44Speaker 2: that didn't last. They're not boycotting him. They all carried
- 2:47Speaker 2: his speech at the UN, except CNN. I mean, I
- 2:52Speaker 2: guess you got to give them some credit. A boycott
- 2:56Speaker 2: is a boycott is a boycott, right? However, when Trump
- 3:01Speaker 2: arrived earlier today to the UN, he was surprised at
- 3:07Speaker 2: the gaggle of reporters who were there to cover his
- 3:11Speaker 2: arrival and to cover his address before the UN General Assembly.
- 3:16Speaker 2: You know why he was surprised? Because one of the
- 3:19Speaker 2: people thrusting a microphone in his face said, was a
- 3:22Speaker 2: reporter from CNN, which led to a classic Donald Trump moment.
- 3:30Speaker 4: I'm surprised that CNN is here covering me. You should
- 3:35Speaker 4: not be here covering me. You said you weren't going
- 3:37Speaker 4: to cover me. You shouldn't be covering me.
- 3:39Speaker 5: But I will tell you, it is an honor to
- 3:42Speaker 5: be at the United Nations, and we're making a lot
- 3:44Speaker 5: of progress.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Our country is doing really, really well. Thank you very much.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I mean, I think our audio got clipped at the beginning.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Can you play it again, guys, from the beginning so
- 3:54Speaker 2: we can hear the whole clip? Because it's hysterical. We
- 4:03Speaker 2: are out of sync today. Let's start again. Let me
- 4:05Speaker 2: give it a proper cue up. He looks over at CNN,
- 4:09Speaker 2: sees a reporter standing there, and says the following.
- 4:14Speaker 4: I'm surprised that CNN is here covering me. You should
- 4:18Speaker 4: be here. You should not be here covering me. You
- 4:21Speaker 4: said you weren't going to cover me. You shouldn't be
- 4:22Speaker 4: covering me.
- 4:23Speaker 2: But I will.
- 4:24Speaker 5: Tell you, it is an honor to be at the
- 4:26Speaker 5: United Nations, and we're making a lot of progress.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Our country is doing really, really well. Thank you very much.
- 4:35Speaker 2: That is classic Trump. What are you doing here? Are
- 4:40Speaker 2: you going to boycott me or not? A boycott is
- 4:44Speaker 2: a boycott is a boycott. You guys are so stupid,
- 4:47Speaker 2: you don't even know how to boycott me. That's what
- 4:49Speaker 2: he seems to be saying. You know, it seems to
- 4:54Speaker 2: me that if the media gets to pick and choose
- 4:57Speaker 2: what presidential events they're going to get to cover, why
- 5:01Speaker 2: doesn't the White House get to pick and choose who
- 5:03Speaker 2: gets access to the White House? This is one of
- 5:09Speaker 2: the stupidest non-issues. Somebody called my show earlier today and said,
- 5:14Speaker 2: Ben Ferguson, who I like. I like Ben a lot.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Ben's a talk show host. He used to be in Memphis.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I think he's in Dallas now. And he bounces around
- 5:24Speaker 2: and goes to the TV networks that invite him. I've
- 5:28Speaker 2: seen him on CNN on that Abby Phillip panel. Ben
- 5:33Speaker 2: apparently said, oh, this is very bad news. Because if
- 5:38Speaker 2: a Republican president can do it to CNN, what's to
- 5:42Speaker 2: prevent a Democrat president from doing it to us? Well,
- 5:45Speaker 2: they did. Obama did. Biden did. You really do think
- 5:53Speaker 2: that because you want to make sure we get access
- 5:57Speaker 2: to a President Pete Buttigieg press conference that we better not?
- 6:04Speaker 2: Play hardball with CNN or MSNOW or Politico? What in
- 6:09Speaker 2: the world are people thinking on our side? If they
- 6:13Speaker 2: want to boycott, boycott. And they did boycott. Today, apparently,
- 6:16Speaker 2: CNN didn't carry Trump's address before the UN General Assembly.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I think that's a pretty big news story, his speech.
- 6:26Speaker 2: We're only in the middle of a war. We've got
- 6:29Speaker 2: gas prices going up. The American people want to understand
- 6:33Speaker 2: why we're at war with Iran, why we're bombing Iran,
- 6:36Speaker 2: why this is happening. Trump laid it out beautifully today,
- 6:39Speaker 2: and a CNN viewer didn't have a chance to find
- 6:42Speaker 2: out why. Okay, so be it. That's their decision. But
- 6:49Speaker 2: you know what? It's the White House's decision as to
- 6:54Speaker 2: who is allowed in or not into the White House.
- 6:59Speaker 2: And I tried all day today to get somebody to
- 7:02Speaker 2: give me a cohesive, a coherent answer as to why
- 7:08Speaker 2: this isn't the prerogative of the White House to do
- 7:11Speaker 2: exactly what they did. The fact of the matter is
- 7:16Speaker 2: they can let anybody in they want to. You're not
- 7:20Speaker 2: guaranteed access to the White House. You're not guaranteed access
- 7:26Speaker 2: to Air Force One. You're not guaranteed access to Camp David.
- 7:30Speaker 2: You're not guaranteed access to Mar-a-Lago. That's the president's decision
- 7:38Speaker 2: and his team. And again, for the life of me,
- 7:42Speaker 2: I want somebody to explain once and for all, Ben
- 7:46Speaker 2: Ferguson or anybody else, why there is a presumed guaranteed
- 7:53Speaker 2: entry to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue by anybody by any media
- 7:58Speaker 2: organization I told the story today on the show about
- 8:02Speaker 2: how I once couldn't get into the White House and
- 8:05Speaker 2: it took an hour or an hour and a half
- 8:08Speaker 2: because my press credential had Mike Gallagher on it which
- 8:12Speaker 2: is my name Mike is short for Michael my driver's
- 8:16Speaker 2: license and my official government ID says Michael Gallagher and
- 8:22Speaker 2: the Secret Service said sorry doesn't match And I said,
- 8:27Speaker 2: you're kidding, right? Mike is short for Michael. Nope. It's
- 8:31Speaker 2: got to be that way on the official form. It's
- 8:33Speaker 2: got to match up. All the names have to match up.
- 8:36Speaker 2: So now I have an official press credential that says
- 8:40Speaker 2: Michael Gallagher on it. By the way, don't ever call
- 8:43Speaker 2: me Michael. I hate Michael. I loathe Michael. Michael makes
- 8:49Speaker 2: me sound so old. And I don't know. Michael is
- 8:54Speaker 2: too formal. I'm a Mike. I'm not a Michael. He's
- 9:00Speaker 2: a Donald, not a Don. He's Donald J. Trump. And
- 9:06Speaker 2: here was his message today at the United Nations about
- 9:11Speaker 2: sending Iran back to hell with no chance of survival.
- 9:16Speaker 3: But I have a big decision to make. Will a
- 9:20Speaker 3: deal be made with Iran? that lets them rebuild and
- 9:25Speaker 3: create a far greater country than it ever was before,
- 9:30Speaker 3: maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or
- 9:32Speaker 3: even the world? Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic
- 9:38Speaker 3: and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to
- 9:41Speaker 3: kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drive
- 9:47Speaker 3: them into hell with no chance of survival and no
- 9:50Speaker 3: hope of future greatness or generations?
- 9:54Speaker 2: But I believe we'll make a deal.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Right after the election, because it doesn't make sense for
- 10:00Speaker 3: them not to. They're waiting to see how I do
- 10:03Speaker 3: in the midterm election. What they don't realize is that
- 10:07Speaker 3: I'm not running. I did that already and won in
- 10:12Speaker 3: a landslide. We won in a giant landslide. And I'll
- 10:15Speaker 3: be here for two and a half years. The Republican
- 10:18Speaker 3: Party is running. And I'll be helping them. But I
- 10:21Speaker 3: am not running. I gave absolutely no credence and will
- 10:26Speaker 3: not give credence to the election when it comes to Iran.
- 10:31Speaker 3: It doesn't even enter my mind. The only thing that
- 10:35Speaker 3: does is that Iran.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Will never have a nuclear weapon. The cowards and traitors.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Thank you. Wow. Really powerful, powerful message today at the U.N.,
- 10:50Speaker 2: And again, if you're CNN, if you're a CNN viewer,
- 10:52Speaker 2: you didn't see it. I always love checking the, Mark
- 10:56Speaker 2: always gets annoyed with me when I get fixated on
- 10:59Speaker 2: my text line and I love the live chat on YouTube.
- 11:02Speaker 2: We're live every day with M & M Extra on YouTube.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Don't forget to like and subscribe and follow what we do.
- 11:09Speaker 2: If you love our podcast, if you like the M &
- 11:11Speaker 2: M Extra, even when one of us is off, Mark
- 11:14Speaker 2: will be back in a couple of days. I'll be
- 11:16Speaker 2: off for a couple of days in mid-October. Uh, and
- 11:20Speaker 2: Mark will fly solo. We have fun doing it obviously together,
- 11:23Speaker 2: but we also enjoy doing this every single day, even
- 11:26Speaker 2: if we're alone. And I, but Mark gives me a
- 11:28Speaker 2: hard time cause I love watching the comments in the
- 11:31Speaker 2: live chat of YouTube. So every day we're live at
- 11:34Speaker 2: noon on YouTube, 11 central noon, Eastern 11 central. And
- 11:38Speaker 2: then of course, uh, the, the podcast gets, uh, dropped
- 11:41Speaker 2: on all the podcast platforms, Spotify and, and, uh, all
- 11:45Speaker 2: the different ways. What are Spotify? I don't even know
- 11:50Speaker 2: all the podcast platforms. Where do you get your podcasts?
- 11:54Speaker 2: Wherever you want to get them. M & M Extra.
- 11:58Speaker 2: We hope that you'll like and subscribe. And I love
- 12:03Speaker 2: the text line too, 800-655-MIKE. If you ever want to
- 12:05Speaker 2: try to get a message to us in real time,
- 12:09Speaker 2: the text line is always up and running, 800-655-MIKE, 800-655-6453.
- 12:15Speaker 2: But a lot of people love to chat in the
- 12:18Speaker 2: live chat on YouTube. So when you log on to YouTube,
- 12:21Speaker 2: you can see comments. Matt writes, hello from Mesquite, Texas.
- 12:26Speaker 2: I love Scott Hummer. He's always in there. Happy Tuesday
- 12:29Speaker 2: to everyone. Bear Osborne checking in from Phoenix. The Real
- 12:34Speaker 2: Goofus checking in from Hatchie. I believe that's probably Wachahatchie.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I think it's Wachahatchie. Flower Mound is in the house.
- 12:43Speaker 2: The Colony, a whole bunch of Dallas fans. Melissa points
- 12:47Speaker 2: out that Ben Ferguson lives in Houston. And how about this?
- 12:54Speaker 2: Trish is traveling... in Japan. What are Trish? Are you
- 13:02Speaker 2: watching right now on YouTube from Japan? I can't sleep.
- 13:07Speaker 2: So I have to keep up with Michael. I mean,
- 13:09Speaker 2: Mike Gallagher, Trish that, you know, you're in one of
- 13:12Speaker 2: my favorite countries in the world. I mean, look, there's
- 13:15Speaker 2: no better country on the planet than the United States,
- 13:19Speaker 2: but I have been to Japan now three times in
- 13:23Speaker 2: my lifetime. Twice in the last few years, I keep
- 13:26Speaker 2: going back because I keep wondering why cities in America
- 13:31Speaker 2: can't be like Tokyo. Why cities in America can't be clean, spotless, crime-free, efficient, modern,
- 13:45Speaker 2: friendly people. I love Japan. In fact, I want to go.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I want to go back. The only thing that kind
- 13:52Speaker 2: of screws me up is the time zone difference. Last
- 13:54Speaker 2: time I went to Japan, though, it was a lot easier.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I mean, I said Waxahachie. That's right. I was trying
- 14:00Speaker 2: to say Waxahachie. Somebody corrected me. Waxahachie. But Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto. Gosh,
- 14:08Speaker 2: do I love that place. So, Trish, thank you for
- 14:11Speaker 2: checking in from all the way over in Japan on
- 14:14Speaker 2: M & M Extra, which was pretty neat. Trish is...
- 14:20Speaker 2: is taking part right now. How cool is this? It
- 14:24Speaker 2: never ceases to amaze me, the modern wonders of technology,
- 14:28Speaker 2: the wonders and the marvels of modern technology. Trish is
- 14:32Speaker 2: right now taking part by getting into the live chat,
- 14:38Speaker 2: watching YouTube. She's a part of the M & M
- 14:42Speaker 2: Extra experience today, and she's looking out her hotel window
- 14:46Speaker 2: at the Imperial Palace. That gives me some chills. That's
- 14:51Speaker 2: so neat. So thank you. Thank you, Trish, for tuning in.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And have you noticed my weight loss lately? You know,
- 14:57Speaker 2: one of our great podcast sponsors, PhD Weight Loss, right
- 15:02Speaker 2: there with me, over 50 pounds of weight loss. If
- 15:05Speaker 2: you've tried everything like I used to do, counted calories
- 15:09Speaker 2: and points and killed myself at the gym, now you're
- 15:12Speaker 2: carrying weight that just won't move no matter what you do.
- 15:15Speaker 2: PhD Weight Loss treats that weight as a symptom. not
- 15:18Speaker 2: as a character flaw. You're not, it's not a shortcoming
- 15:21Speaker 2: on your part. About four years ago, I was in
- 15:23Speaker 2: the same position and I was fat. I mean, I was,
- 15:27Speaker 2: I admit it. I was over 230 pounds. Funny thing
- 15:30Speaker 2: about me, even when I get heavy, I don't really
- 15:31Speaker 2: look quite that heavy, but 230 at five foot 11,
- 15:36Speaker 2: bad news. How about getting down to 177 in a
- 15:41Speaker 2: matter of a couple of, a few months? That's what,
- 15:44Speaker 2: that was my journey with PhD weight loss. According to
- 15:47Speaker 2: their client data survey, 8 out of 10 PhD clients
- 15:50Speaker 2: dropped 10% or more of their body weight. Make the
- 15:53Speaker 2: call that can change your life forever. Say goodbye to
- 15:57Speaker 2: the weight and keep it off. Call 864-644-1900. That's 864-644-1900.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Mention Mike and Mark. They'll add two free weeks to
- 16:02Speaker 2: your program and they'll cover the cost of your food.
- 16:10Speaker 2: That's a $ 1, 500 value. PhD Weight Loss and Nutrition. Call
- 16:14Speaker 2: 864-644-1900 or visit myphdweightloss.com, myphdweightloss.com. I also mentioned at the
- 16:23Speaker 2: beginning of today's episode, Preborn, this summer, of course, is
- 16:27Speaker 2: three years since the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Millions of us prayed that that day would come. But
- 16:34Speaker 2: the reality is there's now greater access to telehealth and
- 16:38Speaker 2: abortion pills in the mail. And the number of abortions,
- 16:42Speaker 2: the total number of abortions has increased. So there are
- 16:46Speaker 2: things you can do to combat the slaughter of innocent
- 16:50Speaker 2: unborn babies. Pre-born offers free ultrasounds to girls and women.
- 16:55Speaker 2: When a young woman sees her baby on an ultrasound
- 16:58Speaker 2: and she hears her baby's heartbeat, it literally doubles the
- 17:03Speaker 2: chance that she will choose life. You could support pre-born.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I hope you will. Whether you want to save a baby,
- 17:11Speaker 2: one baby, or hundreds, you're a call or a click away. Preborn,
- 17:15Speaker 2: a beautiful, beautiful offering. And it's a practical way to
- 17:20Speaker 2: try to combat abortion on demand in our country. Call 833-850-BABY.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Just call 833-850-BABY. That's 833-850-2229. Or visit preborn.com slash mmextra,
- 17:26Speaker 2: preborn.com slash m extra. I want to go back to
- 17:40Speaker 2: this White House battle. Sometimes it's important to point things
- 17:45Speaker 2: out as a reminder to this audience that the outrage
- 17:53Speaker 2: is often manufactured. This is a manufactured scandal. And let
- 17:58Speaker 2: me tell you why it's manufactured. There is no guarantee
- 18:02Speaker 2: to access to the The New York Times chief White
- 18:07Speaker 2: House correspondent popped up on CNN last night commiserating with
- 18:12Speaker 2: CNN's Caitlin Collins, claiming that in banning CNN from the
- 18:19Speaker 2: White House, the president is choosing his coverage. Listen to
- 18:25Speaker 2: this exchange. Watch this exchange between David Sanger, the chief
- 18:29Speaker 2: White House correspondent for the Times, and Caitlin Collins from CNN.
- 18:35Speaker 6: It's going to be strange. I've covered the White House
- 18:38Speaker 6: on and off now for more than three decades. I
- 18:41Speaker 6: can never recall a single day, Caitlin, when there was
- 18:45Speaker 6: not a TV pool with them. And, you know, this
- 18:50Speaker 6: was all pretty avoidable. The president understands well what the
- 18:55Speaker 6: rules are here. The way the Constitution was written, he
- 18:59Speaker 6: does not get to choose his news coverage, as you
- 19:02Speaker 6: suggested at the beginning. There's a reason the First Amendment
- 19:05Speaker 6: is first. It's first because the founders understood that one
- 19:10Speaker 6: of the greatest checks on power is to make sure
- 19:13Speaker 6: that there is a free and unfettered press. Sometimes that
- 19:16Speaker 6: leads to extremes. Often it leads to coverage the president
- 19:21Speaker 6: doesn't like. Lincoln hated the New York Times' coverage of
- 19:25Speaker 6: the Civil War, right? So the president has just got
- 19:29Speaker 6: to understand that in great democracies, that's what you put
- 19:33Speaker 6: up with. And that's the price we pay for a
- 19:35Speaker 6: free press.
- 19:37Speaker 2: That's insane. And let me tell you why it's insane.
- 19:41Speaker 2: If President Trump banned CNN.
- 19:45Speaker 2: From covering him, if there was some executive order that
- 19:49Speaker 2: took CNN off the air, we should all scream to
- 19:54Speaker 2: the highest mountaintops and demand a reversal of such a
- 19:58Speaker 2: draconian decision. Nobody is suggesting CNN doesn't get free and
- 20:05Speaker 2: unfettered coverage of the president. Nobody. You don't have to
- 20:13Speaker 2: physically have a reporter inside a building in order to
- 20:17Speaker 2: continue your free and unfettered coverage of a presidential administration.
- 20:24Speaker 2: This makes no sense. And I'm saying this, I feel
- 20:28Speaker 2: like the little boy on the side of the road
- 20:32Speaker 2: with the emperor, the naked emperor. The emperor has new clothes,
- 20:35Speaker 2: no clothes on. Do you not understand? That 99% of
- 20:41Speaker 2: the media coverage of anything in America comes from people
- 20:46Speaker 2: who aren't physically on site? This is such a stupid debate.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Does David Sanger of the New York Times believe he
- 20:57Speaker 2: can only write about the Trump White House if he's
- 21:00Speaker 2: sitting in that dingy, miserable little White House press briefing room?
- 21:05Speaker 2: And incidentally, I've been in that room. It's a dump.
- 21:08Speaker 2: It's a dump. It's this cramped, tiny, crappy little room
- 21:13Speaker 2: where all these reporters get together and they ask the
- 21:16Speaker 2: White House press secretary a bunch of questions. Does he
- 21:20Speaker 2: think he can only cover the White House and the
- 21:22Speaker 2: Trump administration and policies emanating from the Trump administration if
- 21:27Speaker 2: he's physically in the building? Of course not. I guarantee
- 21:31Speaker 2: you the chief White House correspondent for the New York
- 21:35Speaker 2: Times does most of his work From his office or
- 21:39Speaker 2: his home or on an airplane or in his car
- 21:43Speaker 2: or wherever he writes. It's a total psyop, as they
- 21:52Speaker 2: call it, as they put it. It's a fake. This
- 21:55Speaker 2: is fake news. But, of course, our better elders, our
- 22:02Speaker 2: wise statesmen are fretting about what Trump decided to do
- 22:08Speaker 2: And I like Jonathan Turley a lot. He's a law professor.
- 22:12Speaker 2: He appeared with Brett Baer last night, and he pointed
- 22:14Speaker 2: out the pragmatic consequences of all of this. You know,
- 22:18Speaker 2: CNN and MSNOW and Politico have already sued the White
- 22:21Speaker 2: House over Trump's decision. Professor Turley points out they'll probably
- 22:27Speaker 2: prevail with their litigation.
- 22:31Speaker 3: There is.
- 22:32Speaker 8: One of the most influential cases is called Sherrill from
- 22:36Speaker 8: 1977 in the D.C.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Circuit.
- 22:38Speaker 8: And they emphasize that you cannot engage in viewpoint discrimination,
- 22:42Speaker 8: that once you allow media in, you can't deny that
- 22:47Speaker 8: access arbitrarily. The White House seems to be ready to
- 22:52Speaker 8: challenge Sheryl, which would require them to go all the
- 22:55Speaker 8: way to the Supreme Court. That's a considerable risk. This
- 22:58Speaker 8: is a president that gained a lot of ground for
- 23:02Speaker 8: his successor presidents in cases like Trump v. Slaughter. It
- 23:06Speaker 8: was a huge win for presidential power. He could be
- 23:09Speaker 8: giving back some territory with this one. These courts have emphasized,
- 23:15Speaker 8: even the ones that favored the White House, It can't
- 23:19Speaker 8: be done arbitrarily. You can't engage in viewpoint discrimination. Here,
- 23:23Speaker 8: that seems to be the case in spades. You have
- 23:28Speaker 8: the president saying, I don't like this coverage. Now, he
- 23:30Speaker 8: calls it fake news. But presidents have never been entirely
- 23:36Speaker 8: right with the media. George Washington referred to the media
- 23:39Speaker 8: as those infamous scribblers. Thomas Jefferson said you can't believe
- 23:43Speaker 8: anything if it's in a newspaper. So this is not
- 23:46Speaker 8: the first aggrieved president. But this runs against the grain
- 23:50Speaker 8: of our traditions, our values, and frankly, the First Amendment.
- 23:54Speaker 8: He may be creating new law here, but it may
- 23:57Speaker 8: not be the law he wants to create.
- 24:01Speaker 2: You know a tradition and a value that I wish
- 24:03Speaker 2: the American media engaged in? A tradition and value of fairness.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Have you ever seen the studies they've conducted on the
- 24:11Speaker 2: mainstream legacy media and their coverage of this president? 85, 90, 93%
- 24:18Speaker 2: negative coverage. Do you honestly think CNN ever gives Trump
- 24:24Speaker 2: or this administration a fair shake? Are you kidding me?
- 24:30Speaker 2: They do not. And while Professor Turley is waxing eloquently
- 24:37Speaker 2: about mores and standards and traditions and history how about
- 24:43Speaker 2: a media a press that's fair how fair is it
- 24:50Speaker 2: that cnn made a decision to black out the president's
- 24:55Speaker 2: speech today at the united nations again don't get me
- 24:58Speaker 2: wrong it's their network they can cover what they want
- 25:02Speaker 2: to cover But if they are responsible journalists, they would say,
- 25:07Speaker 2: we can't stand this guy, but he is giving a
- 25:10Speaker 2: speech about the war in Iran, AI, the midterm election.
- 25:18Speaker 2: He's standing there for a half hour. We're going to
- 25:21Speaker 2: take a half hour of our airtime, and we're going
- 25:23Speaker 2: to begrudgingly let our viewers watch his speech and let
- 25:29Speaker 2: the viewer decide. That's not what CNN wants to do.
- 25:35Speaker 2: The bosses at CNN are going to decide for their audience.
- 25:40Speaker 2: And if you're not offended by that, if you're not
- 25:42Speaker 2: insulted by that, you must not have a pulse because
- 25:46Speaker 2: it is insulting and it is offensive. It's incredibly offensive.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I want to play for you, and I want to
- 25:55Speaker 2: give you an example of a member of the Trump
- 25:58Speaker 2: administration willing to go right into the lion's den when
- 26:02Speaker 2: Ambassador Mike Waltz sat down with Caitlin Collins last night.
- 26:06Speaker 2: He knew that she was going to come at him
- 26:08Speaker 2: over this media ban. His responses were perfect. He was calm, cool,
- 26:14Speaker 2: and collected. I mean, look, she was too to some extent,
- 26:17Speaker 2: but I want to play the whole clip for you.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I want you to see all of it. And listen
- 26:22Speaker 2: to what it's like when a member of the administration
- 26:26Speaker 2: is confronted by a member of the loyal opposition, namely
- 26:30Speaker 2: Caitlin Collins from CNN. Before we do that, let's talk
- 26:33Speaker 2: a little bit about back pain, leg pain, shoulder pain,
- 26:37Speaker 2: neck pain. I'm going to tell you, of course, about
- 26:39Speaker 2: my friends at Relief Factor. I talked to Dr. Mixon yesterday.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I've been sharing some health news. And this Friday on
- 26:45Speaker 2: the podcast, we're going to dive into health issues. I'm
- 26:49Speaker 2: going to share, I'm going to bear all. Because as
- 26:53Speaker 2: you get older, getting some what they call stenosis, some
- 26:57Speaker 2: hardening of the arteries, some plaque buildup, that's something that
- 27:01Speaker 2: a lot of us over 50 face. And I'm going
- 27:05Speaker 2: to get into this with you in great detail on
- 27:08Speaker 2: Friday's episode of M & M Extra. We're going to
- 27:11Speaker 2: get very personal on Friday's show. So don't miss Eminem
- 27:14Speaker 2: Extra this Friday from Los Angeles as we talk about
- 27:19Speaker 2: this latest health problem. And look, I'm not going to
- 27:22Speaker 2: minimize this. Plaque buildup in the Widowmaker, the LAD, it's
- 27:28Speaker 2: a big deal. It's a big deal. It's not something
- 27:30Speaker 2: that you should not take seriously. Well, all of us
- 27:33Speaker 2: can maybe benefit from what we're going to share Friday.
- 27:36Speaker 2: And everybody can benefit right now from Relief Factor. Three-week
- 27:39Speaker 2: quick start is $ 17. 76. Dr. Mixon, who's also all about,
- 27:45Speaker 2: he's the founder of Relief Factor, he came up with
- 27:48Speaker 2: the Longevity Clinic out there in Kirkland, Washington. It's a
- 27:52Speaker 2: wonderful place to help keep you alive and thriving for many,
- 27:58Speaker 2: many years to come. And I wanted Dr. Mixon to
- 28:01Speaker 2: know all about this latest chapter I'm facing here with
- 28:04Speaker 2: some heart health. For pain relief, relieffactor.com. It's absolutely worth it.

- 28:40Speaker 2: Trish from all the way in Japan today. Mark Davis
- 28:44Speaker 2: and I, a few years ago, got to travel to
- 28:46Speaker 2: Guatemala on behalf of our friends at Food for the Poor.
- 28:50Speaker 2: We have stood there where hunger is a daily reality.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Right now, families are waiting. Do you know that Food
- 28:56Speaker 2: for the Poor, which is this beautiful Christian ministry, they've
- 28:59Speaker 2: been at this for 44 years. They've delivered 4.7 billion meals.
- 29:05Speaker 2: That's with a B. 4.7 billion meals. I'm asking you
- 29:10Speaker 2: to join them. They can't do it without you. Just
- 29:13Speaker 2: text the letters FFTP to 51555. Food for the Poor.
- 29:21Speaker 2: This beautiful, beautiful Christian ministry, every day without help is
- 29:25Speaker 2: another day without a meal. These children, these families, they
- 29:29Speaker 2: deserve it. And I got a lot of great folks
- 29:31Speaker 2: who've been supporters of Food for the Poor for many years.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Just text FFTP to 51555. Text FFTP to 51555. and
- 29:36Speaker 2: bless you for blessing these families through Food for the Poor. Hey!
- 29:47Speaker 2: Bless Ambassador Mike Waltz. Here he is with Caitlin Collins
- 29:50Speaker 2: yesterday on CNN. And I want to play this, almost
- 29:52Speaker 2: this whole exchange, so you can see what it's like
- 29:56Speaker 2: for a Trump official to walk into the lion's den.
- 30:01Speaker 9: Obviously, the president is meeting with a lot of world
- 30:03Speaker 9: leaders tomorrow. How do you think those world leaders see
- 30:06Speaker 9: the president's ban of three outlets that are covering him
- 30:09Speaker 9: because he doesn't like their coverage?
- 30:11Speaker 7: Oh, I think when they actually unpack American jurisprudence, Supreme
- 30:18Speaker 7: Court precedent in multiple cases in the 60s, 70s, and
- 30:23Speaker 7: as recently as a few years ago, absolutely. We have
- 30:27Speaker 7: a First Amendment, your right to publish, your right for
- 30:32Speaker 7: free speech, but what you don't have an inherent right
- 30:34Speaker 7: to is to have access to any government institution that
- 30:36Speaker 7: you want. In particular, Caitlin, like the The corrections that
- 30:43Speaker 7: go on, the false reporting, the anonymous sources are a
- 30:47Speaker 7: real disservice, I think, to the American people.
- 30:49Speaker 9: But how does that, I mean, what's the message to
- 30:52Speaker 9: world leaders if he's banning coverage because he doesn't like
- 30:55Speaker 9: what the reporters are reporting?
- 30:56Speaker 7: I think the message to world leaders is we need
- 30:59Speaker 7: an open, free, and fair, and objective government. press corps
- 31:02Speaker 7: and that's not what we're seeing right.
- 31:03Speaker 9: Now how do we have an open and free and
- 31:05Speaker 9: fair press corps if he's saying well this outlet i
- 31:07Speaker 9: don't like so they can't come into the oval office
- 31:09Speaker 9: but other outlets can you just.
- 31:10Speaker 7: Ignored what i just said you don't have an inherent
- 31:13Speaker 7: right to any government facility that you want whether it's
- 31:16Speaker 7: langley or the white house and that has been determined
- 31:19Speaker 7: by multiple supreme court cases the 60s 70s as recently
- 31:22Speaker 7: as a few years that's an important distinction.
- 31:26Speaker 9: I remember you said that to Dana Bash on Sunday.
- 31:28Speaker 9: That case found that.
- 31:28Speaker 1: I just quoted one case.
- 31:30Speaker 7: I mean, there's been several.
- 31:31Speaker 9: The case you're referencing found that reporters don't have carte
- 31:34Speaker 9: blanche access to everything, but you can't just ban outlets
- 31:37Speaker 9: based on their viewpoint or their reporting. He's not saying
- 31:39Speaker 9: no reporters can come in the Oval Office.
- 31:40Speaker 7: He's not saying don't go out and report. We're talking
- 31:43Speaker 7: right now. I mean, we're talking right now. I'd hope
- 31:46Speaker 7: we talked about the reforms that we're going to do
- 31:48Speaker 7: at the United Nations, an important international institution. But if
- 31:51Speaker 7: we want to spend the entire time talking about this, fine.
- 31:55Speaker 7: What we haven't talked is this institution that we're actually
- 32:00Speaker 7: trying to reform that many people thought he'd walk away from.
- 32:03Speaker 7: We haven't talked about the billion dollars of cuts that
- 32:07Speaker 7: we've imposed here that the American people are going to
- 32:10Speaker 7: benefit from, the 3,000 employees, the U.N. bureaucrats that they're
- 32:14Speaker 7: now firing, the 25 percent.
- 32:16Speaker 9: Of the peacekeepers.
- 32:18Speaker 7: I'm standing here talking to CNN, and you just referenced
- 32:22Speaker 7: when I was on CNN on Sunday morning. That is
- 32:25Speaker 7: very different than you have access to any government institution
- 32:28Speaker 7: that you want.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I just think that's so good. That's so important that
- 32:34Speaker 2: he's making that distinction, and that's all I'm saying. You
- 32:37Speaker 2: can cover the White House all you want, Caitlin. You're
- 32:42Speaker 2: interviewing a Trump official. He was on CNN the other day.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Trump will be on CNN again. You don't get unfettered
- 32:50Speaker 2: access to any institution, any government building you want. That's
- 32:54Speaker 2: a wrap for a Tuesday. Thank you very much for
- 32:57Speaker 2: being a part of M & M Extra. Let's do
- 32:59Speaker 2: it again tomorrow, shall we? Have a terrific day on
- 33:01Speaker 2: behalf of my buddy and my podcast partner, Mark Davis,
- 33:04Speaker 2: and our entire team. Take care and thanks for tuning in.
- 33:16Speaker 4: For full shows live and on demand, it's Salem News Channel.
