Transcript
- 0:00Alright, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to episode 14 of the
- 0:04Take to Pod with Mom and Dad. I'm Dad.
- 0:08And I'm mom. The kids are asleep soundly in
- 0:13their beds. Yes, after quite a day honestly.
- 0:16It's a great day, we quite a day, but great.
- 0:19It was a great day, but it took a lot to get here.
- 0:22So first of all this evening. So everybody took a nap today,
- 0:27which is unusual. Usually our three-year old does
- 0:29not nap. Yeah, cause he got up at 5:50
- 0:31this morning. Yeah, this little asshole got up
- 0:34at 5:50, came in our bed, and then our baby got up at like 5
- 0:37minutes later and came in our bed.
- 0:38Yeah, and they were so loud that we just had to start our day at
- 0:416:00 AM. Garbage.
- 0:45There was a point in my day where I had gotten up, showered,
- 0:49had like breakfast, played with the kids, and then I went out.
- 0:55I came back home and it was only 1230 and I was like, what is
- 0:59going on right now? Interstellar or the time has
- 1:03moved different outside of the house was inside.
- 1:06But anyway, we, we all had a nap and then we got up from the nap
- 1:10and we wanted to take the kids to the park because it was, it's
- 1:12a gorgeous day today. It was beautiful.
- 1:15To the park, which was really nice, but honestly at the park
- 1:19knew it got locked because I was walking our baby in her stroller
- 1:23by the sandbox and there's a few little kids playing in the
- 1:26sandbox and I just notice that a bunch of them are holding slices
- 1:31of pizza. Having like a little pizza
- 1:33picnic. And one of them is like, she's
- 1:35playing, so she's distracted, and her pizza is just like
- 1:38dipping into the sand. There was one kid crossing this
- 1:41little like bridge where you have to kind of watch your step
- 1:44and he had just half a slice, those hands just mucking this
- 1:47slice. His hands are black from like
- 1:50climbing the. Oht It's so nice.
- 1:51Somebody's mom thought it was a good idea to bring pizza to the
- 1:55park. And these kids are just like
- 1:57touching the mulch. They're touching the playground,
- 1:59they're touching the. Sand.
- 1:59Well, it's kind of funny eating. Pizza.
- 2:02Usually when you have some kind of food like that at a park, you
- 2:05bring wipes to make sure everybody's hands are wiped.
- 2:08After but anyway. And before, before and after,
- 2:14all right? Well, it was a good day with the
- 2:16kids so. Yeah, but just to stay on the
- 2:18food topic. Here we go.
- 2:21So Dad was in the mood for burgers tonight.
- 2:24So he was gonna go to this burger place that we sometimes
- 2:26go to, but we looked it up and it has it was closed.
- 2:30Like it's it's closed down. Yeah.
- 2:32So he just went to this random place and he brought back the
- 2:35burgers and I wanted a chicken sandwich.
- 2:37As a new place, I was like, let's try it.
- 2:39It was the you guys. It was the most disgusting
- 2:43chicken sandwich. Well, you're yours was worse
- 2:47than mine. Mine was OK.
- 2:48Like I finished mine and then I'm like, it was alright.
- 2:51I was really hungry. The bun was like really soft and
- 2:54way too saucy and got like really soggy.
- 2:56It was so. Nasty.
- 2:58And the fries were so bad, like how do you mess up fries?
- 3:02Well, it's super easy to mess up fries, but yeah.
- 3:05So what did I do? I'm talking to all the people
- 3:09but I. Did he felt bad that I had
- 3:11nothing to eat? So he went out and got me more
- 3:13food and brought it home. Yeah.
- 3:15And I was like thanks Dad, because I cause I couldn't eat
- 3:17the chicken sandwich. It was so disgusting I couldn't
- 3:19eat it. And I'm not, I'm not a food
- 3:22diva. I literally will eat almost
- 3:24anything. This is this is how bad it.
- 3:27Was a bit of a you can't. You're a bit of a diva when it
- 3:29comes to fried chicken though. Yeah, but this isn't fried
- 3:32chicken. This was just a chicken
- 3:33sandwich. It should if it's no, but if
- 3:34it's chicken tenders or like pieces of chicken thigh or
- 3:39something, you if one thing like one thing can set you off from
- 3:43the whole meal for chicken. You Well, yeah, well, chicken
- 3:47can get gross pretty quickly. Yeah, I agree anyways.
- 3:50Alright, anyways, I saved the day.
- 3:52I managed to save the day. It was quite an operation just
- 3:54to get to this point. Yeah, but we're here.
- 3:57We're here. Oh my God.
- 3:59Alright, so drum roll mom. My body's ready, my heart's on
- 4:10fire, gonna push it over the wire.
- 4:17Yes everybody, we are tackling the 80s cult classic plus.
- 4:21Sport. Yes, Sir.
- 4:25It was released in 1988, starring John Claude Van Damme,
- 4:30Donald Gibb and Leah Aries. Yes, but the main the main thing
- 4:35is Jean Claude Van Dam this movie, Yes, because Donald Gibb,
- 4:40people don't really remember him and the girl.
- 4:43I'm not even 100%. Is Donald give Jackson.
- 4:46Yeah, OK. Not even Andrew.
- 4:49You Jackson, you look like a Jackson.
- 4:52So, bloodsport the synopsis. A U.S. soldier, Frank Dukes has
- 4:57come to Hong Kong to be accepted into the kumite, a highly secret
- 5:01and extremely violent martial arts competition.
- 5:03While trying to gain access into the underground world of
- 5:07clandestine fighters, he also has to avoid military officers
- 5:11who consider him a wall. I think there's a lot in there
- 5:14to say. Like Frank Dukes fights for his
- 5:17life. Honestly, the military part of
- 5:20the movie doesn't have to have even be in there.
- 5:23Yeah, I know. It's a waste of time.
- 5:26It's a reason, yeah, the the the the tournament is hard enough.
- 5:31We don't need this like out. Yeah, it's stupid.
- 5:34You know, outside the thing that's forced, that's gonna
- 5:37cause it to come down on. Him it's like this little Side
- 5:40Story that they wanted to include, but it really adds
- 5:42nothing and it it's kind of. Pointless.
- 5:44So this movie is based on a true story on a real person.
- 5:47So we're gonna get into that. But yeah, this movie had a
- 5:51budget of 1.5 million in 1988 and did over 50 million
- 5:55worldwide. This was a box 50 times.
- 5:58Money. That's pretty shocking.
- 6:00It's crazy and it's like the merchandise, the VHS tapes, like
- 6:03all that just went wild and this movie came out.
- 6:07But Bloodsport wicked movie title.
- 6:10So when was the first time you watched this bump?
- 6:13First time I watched it was just a few nights ago with you, and
- 6:15The funny thing is we actually watched it twice preparing for
- 6:18this podcast. We watched it once, just like in
- 6:21a chill way, and then we watched it again while making notes.
- 6:24But this wasn't your first time we watched it before.
- 6:26No, I've never seen this before. Did show you you fell asleep?
- 6:32Yes, yeah. And honestly, I'm glad I fell
- 6:35asleep because this movie sucks. Wow.
- 6:40Yeah, we'll see about that. We'll see who's right and who's
- 6:43wrong. So the first time you think or
- 6:46you recall is with first time like literally for this podcast.
- 6:49I think so, yeah. Maybe I have seen it before, but
- 6:52it was not memorable. We did watch it and I remember
- 6:55your comments about it then but I won't bring them up.
- 6:58But that just shows you don't remember anything bro.
- 7:01I know I remember a lot, but this movie?
- 7:02Didn't some omega-3? This movie didn't stay in the
- 7:06memory. Banks have a great memory.
- 7:09What about you Dad? When was the first time you saw
- 7:11this? Movie Well, if you must know,
- 7:14the first time I watched this movie, I was, I want to say 10
- 7:18years old. My brother came home and he had
- 7:21a copy of this brand new on VHS and he's like look what I got
- 7:27and he shows it to me in this blood sport.
- 7:28And the cover is iconic. It's just a picture of Van Damme
- 7:31in his his final fight outfit. So it's like the black spandex
- 7:35shorts with the gold ribbon around his waist and he's posing
- 7:40and he's just bicep just like flexing right out of the friggin
- 7:43picture. You know the movie impacted you
- 7:45and you can recall the the the covers.
- 7:48And iconic. Post in such detail.
- 7:50No, it's a great. Poster and you want it for the
- 7:52basement? Did it come up as one of our
- 7:54options? No, but it will soon.
- 7:56We have two spots that we haven't filled for several
- 7:58years. T2 supposed to go there and we
- 8:01couldn't decide on the other one, right?
- 8:02Yeah, there was one that I think I wanted Dirty Dancing,
- 8:05honestly, because that's an iconic poster too.
- 8:08So anyways he showed me the tape and we watched it that I and I
- 8:12was like this is amazing. And then I think I recall it
- 8:17would we had it on VHS and we watched it all the time.
- 8:21Then it would be on TBS superstation and Spike TV.
- 8:24Remember Spike TV? No, I don't actually.
- 8:27Don't. OK, well anyways, they all, they
- 8:29had all the wrestling shows on and stuff.
- 8:31Everybody as a kid in the 90s had a VHS that you played over
- 8:35and over. Again, yeah, but this or several
- 8:36all the time. And it's very, very, very
- 8:40rewatchable. This movie, you could watch it.
- 8:42Money that I never came across because I have brothers that
- 8:45watched movies like. I if they haven't like seen
- 8:47this, like you gotta. Watch it, I'm sure they have.
- 8:49So anyways, we watched it a million times.
- 8:51It was on superstation. You'd you'd flip channels would
- 8:54be on spike TV, flip channels. And then you get to a certain
- 8:57point when he's training, no matter what point the movie
- 9:00starts, he like all it's blood sport.
- 9:02I gotta catch like is a day one of the fighting?
- 9:04Is it day two of the? Fighting.
- 9:05So you have the warm fuzzies for this movie because you saw it as
- 9:07a kid and loved the fighting. And everything I do have the
- 9:10warm fuzzies similar that similar to the style that you
- 9:13did The Dirty Dancing, but it is a very popular movie.
- 9:17It's. Very, very popular.
- 9:18It is. I, I have.
- 9:19I have a lot to say about that later.
- 9:20The Rotten Tomatoes score on this the Critics score is like
- 9:2345% and the audience score is 75 so.
- 9:28That's still not that good. 75 for an action movie from the 80s
- 9:32that's very good. And then on I'm I Ooh, baby.
- 9:36Oh, she has something to say about the movie.
- 9:39Now. OK, now we're back.
- 9:41False alarm. Yeah, by the time I got up
- 9:43there, her passing was back and she was asleep.
- 9:45Well, that's OK. I went all the way up there.
- 9:48She's. Fine, gotta work off dinner I
- 9:50guess, right? I guess I could go for a walk.
- 9:52So yeah, this movie IMDb score 7.8.
- 9:55Like, that's really good. People love this movie.
- 9:57That's my first time and it's been a part of my, you know,
- 10:02action movie. Rolodex, if you will, mom.
- 10:05So why does this movie suck? Want to elaborate on that?
- 10:09I mean, I'm going to go into it quite a bit in our segments, but
- 10:14the movie is very cringey. Cheesy, cheesy.
- 10:19The act, it's very cheesy, yeah. The acting from almost everyone
- 10:23involved is abysmal, including John Club.
- 10:28Nobody in this movie knows how to act.
- 10:30It's all very, very campy and very try hard.
- 10:33Yeah. And on top of that, like we were
- 10:36talking about earlier, the storylines are very thin.
- 10:38Yeah. It's.
- 10:39A tournament involved it's. Just a fight tournament, and
- 10:42then they throw in this army thing and like I said, it
- 10:45doesn't add anything. It doesn't need to be there.
- 10:47Yeah, yeah. He runs through the streets with
- 10:49these guys and it's like a weird, it's like a musical.
- 10:53He like, stops and he's like toying with them.
- 10:56It's 80s cheese, man. It's 80s.
- 10:59Cheese. It's an overload of cheese.
- 11:01Yeah, it's extra cheese. So, like, did I?
- 11:05Do I like it? No.
- 11:08Is it fun to watch? In some ways, yeah.
- 11:10OK, do you hate? It I don't hate it, but it's a
- 11:14bad movie. Well, I guess it depends what
- 11:17you're looking. For there's a difference between
- 11:21good, bad movies, OK, and bad, bad movies.
- 11:24Yeah, this is definitely more in the good, bad movie category
- 11:28because it's still entertaining. OK.
- 11:30It's not it's it's it's not that it has nothing redeeming about
- 11:33it. Sure, if you're looking at it
- 11:34from the like typical standpoint of a movie.
- 11:37It's bad, yeah. I I would agree with that.
- 11:41But if if you say it's a bad movie, but it's a bad fighting
- 11:46movie, No, on the scale of fighting movie genre, I think
- 11:50this is well, this is the one that flipped everything on his
- 11:53head. But there are so many fighting
- 11:55movies that are way better. Like like what?
- 11:57Kill Bill is just an example right off the top of my head.
- 12:01There's a whole lot of fighting. To kill.
- 12:02While you're talking about solely, it's strictly about hand
- 12:05to hand combat martial arts. There's nothing else.
- 12:09It's only about a tournament that's considered a fighting
- 12:12movie. Yeah, that's a very niche
- 12:14category now that you're going. Into fighting movie is a genre
- 12:16Jackie Chan movies are all fighting movies so much that.
- 12:19He Made his Order is a great movie.
- 12:21Yeah, but that's not so that Jackie Chan movie is not a
- 12:24fighting movie. That's an action movie, right?
- 12:27There's. Shooting.
- 12:27There's driving with a very, very, very niche type.
- 12:30Of movie. Maybe they're all bad.
- 12:32There was a tons of them in the 80s and they were all trash and
- 12:36then early 90s as well. If you just look at John Claude
- 12:39Van Damme IMDb, it's a bunch of movies like this.
- 12:41You can tell they're all like this.
- 12:42Yeah, but that's the that was 80s like Stallone before Van
- 12:46Damme. It was Stallone.
- 12:48You know, you had Schwarzenegger like this movie is.
- 12:51I love this movie, so let's just go into that if you want.
- 12:54But this was the first purely focused martial arts movie, one
- 12:59of the first like there was always Bruce Lee ones, but they
- 13:01always had except for enter the dragon.
- 13:04They always had like side plots. The fight choreography is
- 13:08fantastic. You're you're rooting for Van
- 13:11Damme the whole time and the villain is fucking amazing in
- 13:16Bolo Young, like he's known as Chong Lee in the movie.
- 13:20It's funny at times when it's trying to be like it's not an
- 13:23unintentionally, it's actually some funny.
- 13:25Jokes. Yeah, Jackson is a great Comic
- 13:27Relief. Comic Relief for sure.
- 13:28Yeah, he's Comic Relief. And I said to you in the middle
- 13:32of the thing, I'm like, he's he's somebody you wish, like,
- 13:35was one of your buddies. You know, you just call him up
- 13:36like, yo, I need some help. I need to move a couch.
- 13:38Everybody had a buddy kind of like Jackson, like maybe not
- 13:40that big and that tough, but with that kind of sensibility.
- 13:44And this was the breakout role for Jean-Claude Van Damme.
- 13:46This one put him on the map. And then he got all these other
- 13:49movies. Universal Soldier.
- 13:51Double Impact. Yeah, they all look like.
- 13:54They're very similar time cop. They're just kick ass action
- 13:58movies. Yeah, and he does the splits and
- 14:01like most of them, and it's fucking lit.
- 14:03He just rips his ball. Sack the muscles from Brussels,
- 14:07Jean. Claude Well, we actually talked
- 14:08about this in the Speed podcast a little bit.
- 14:10There was a time in the 80s and 90s where all action movies were
- 14:13Arnold, John, Claude Van Dam, Van Dam types, very muscular
- 14:17guys who aren't really that good at acting.
- 14:20And then they brought in people like Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise,
- 14:23more like average looking guys that weren't super ripped and
- 14:25huge. Yeah.
- 14:26And then I think action movies got a lot better because now
- 14:29they're. Getting actors and telling them
- 14:30to get yoked and then go in the movie.
- 14:33Well, first superhero movies cause yeah, if you're not a yoke
- 14:36superhero, what's the. Point unless it's like for you
- 14:39know, real action movie, they need martial artists to play
- 14:41that and that's another reason why the acting isn't the best in
- 14:44this by Jean Claude is pretty damn good.
- 14:47He like after this he just kept getting better and better and
- 14:49actually how many of his movies have you seen?
- 14:52This is the only movie I've says that I can recall seeing.
- 14:55I'm sure I've seen him in other movies.
- 14:57But the performance he gives in this is it's very amateur.
- 15:01Yeah. And try hard.
- 15:03It's try hard but I mean. But his fighting is good.
- 15:05You can tell that he's skilled. Yeah, he's believable as a
- 15:10fighter and in the role you like.
- 15:11You don't have some random unathletic babyface guy or
- 15:15handsome. He's he's clearly in very good
- 15:17shape and he clearly has martial arts training.
- 15:18Yeah, he's fucking lit. Yeah, that doesn't seem.
- 15:20Fair. Anyway, I just want to give this
- 15:22movie this manly flowers because for an action movie, like a
- 15:26fighting movie specific, this is the one that did everything and
- 15:31everybody else followed and we'll talk about it.
- 15:33Shortly, Yeah, yeah, we definitely want.
- 15:34So mom, you said there's a very cringy movie.
- 15:37Very fucking cringy. Sure.
- 15:39What is the cringiest moment for you?
- 15:42So it's not one moment in particular for me.
- 15:44It's every time Chung Lee is on screen, really.
- 15:48This guy hams it up for the camera.
- 15:50So good. Acting menacing.
- 15:52Making Charlie. He's acting menacing, he's
- 15:56making lots of intense facial expression, and he's showing off
- 15:59and flexing his absurd steroid muscles like this guy is on so
- 16:04many stairs. He's on the old 80s steroids
- 16:07where his chest just becomes like a fucking sofa.
- 16:10Yeah, there's a couple times where the camera focuses on and
- 16:13then he just like flexes his packs.
- 16:15Yeah, and there's also a couple times where he does a knockout
- 16:19and makes such an absurd expression following the Nokia.
- 16:23Little psychotic. Right.
- 16:24It's psychotic, but it's also like, dude, you don't have to
- 16:28crank it up to 1,000,000. You could just crank it up to
- 16:31like 6 or 7. Yeah, but.
- 16:33This guy like this guy's cooking on the stove and he's like, he's
- 16:36like next power Max heat. I love it.
- 16:39Instead of just letting it simmer, throwing in some slices,
- 16:44this guy said no full power. Yeah, I love.
- 16:48When Jackson hits him in the face, he takes the blood from
- 16:51his face and licks it. Yeah, and then gets outraged.
- 16:53He's a fucking monster. It's it's a pretty embarrassing
- 16:57performance. To me are you?
- 16:59He's one of the best villains ever.
- 17:01He barely says like 5 words. He says very good brick not hit
- 17:05back and then he says now I break you like I break your
- 17:08friend and then the end he says matey.
- 17:11He's unhinged though, and he's like the other fighters don't
- 17:14respect him. I think it would have been
- 17:16scarier if he was like a very traditional, respectable fighter
- 17:21that could not be. Beaten.
- 17:22No. This guy was like he was.
- 17:23He was like the WWE Attitude Era, like he was punk rock.
- 17:26He gave no fucks. He had no respect for anybody.
- 17:29He didn't, and it was cringey. But it made it more villainous.
- 17:33Yeah, what about you? Mike cringiest moment.
- 17:36I can't believe that Chung Li, but I guess I guess where you
- 17:38coming from it it's I don't appreciate.
- 17:41Him, it's a really easy performance.
- 17:43Yeah, but you, you grow to appreciate.
- 17:44It's so unhinged. So when Frank breaks into
- 17:47Tanaka's home and when he's young Frank and is confronted by
- 17:51Tanaka son, the acting, that whole sequence when Tanaka comes
- 17:58and he says you cannot take Katanas sword by stealing, you
- 18:01must earn it. And then it's like, I wasn't
- 18:03going to steal it. Like that kid's acting is so
- 18:08bad, they couldn't. Like, I get the accent, he's
- 18:11trying to sound like Van Damme, but where is that kid from?
- 18:15He kind of looks like Van Damme. What accent is that the Van
- 18:19Damme has? He's from Belgium.
- 18:20Then why didn't they get some like kid from Belgium?
- 18:23Because nobody gives a fucking Roundhouse kick like Jean-Claude
- 18:27Van Damme Misty. OK?
- 18:29Nobody gives a Roundhouse kick or the splits like.
- 18:32Why not get a kid that has a Belgian accent?
- 18:34Like how hard is that? OHP for the young.
- 18:36Baxter, Yeah. OHP I had 1.5 million budget.
- 18:41Like do they really give a shit? Go to Belgium and finally Kit
- 18:44also spends. Speaks English.
- 18:45Just get some guy like can you make?
- 18:47Can you sound like this? Can you do this voice?
- 18:48OK, do it. Yeah, but he didn't do it.
- 18:50Well, whatever. He barely says anything.
- 18:53But my biggest concern is the kids wearing a New York Giants
- 18:56jersey, like the football team, and he's wearing a San Francisco
- 18:59Giants hat. San Francisco Giants baseball
- 19:02team. There are two different cities,
- 19:05but they're both Giants. Like this kid.
- 19:07Just a big fan of the Giants. The Giants.
- 19:10He's like Iron Giants. My favorite movie, man.
- 19:14Anyway, that part was weird. That is, and it's cringy.
- 19:16If you're if you know anything about sports or sports fan,
- 19:19you're like, what the fuck is he wearing?
- 19:22And then so it's it's like a double, double dip.
- 19:25You got the cringe of the acting and you got the cringe of the
- 19:29wardrobe department being like, yeah, yeah, just put the shit on
- 19:31them because the fuck? Well, on top of that, we see the
- 19:34samurai sword come out a couple of times and of epicness to it,
- 19:39the way that the samurai sword is treated and Kill Bill, yeah,
- 19:43is so epic. And like when they take it out
- 19:45of the sheath, that goes like changing.
- 19:47Like it doesn't happen in this movie.
- 19:50It doesn't because. It's not about sword fighting, I
- 19:52know, but. It's full contact.
- 19:53Literally when he was handing. Him, the samurai sword.
- 19:55I was like, that's it. Like it doesn't feel valuable at
- 19:58all. It's about hand.
- 20:00To hand combat. So it's not, it's not Kill Bill.
- 20:02Kill Bill was like they had a whole fucking half an hour
- 20:05dedicated to how the sword was like made and you had to get
- 20:08like accepted to get one. This is not about that.
- 20:11I get that, but it. It did.
- 20:12It did feel kind of of it felt weak in that, in that department
- 20:15specifically, I think. Kill Bill made you think
- 20:18everybody uses swords and fights, unless it's not as if I
- 20:21win. Every other samurai sword the
- 20:23tournament, no. Yeah.
- 20:24OK, So most iconic scene or moment for you?
- 20:28What? What I gotta hear this because
- 20:30it's the it's. The flashback scene where Dukes
- 20:32remembers his childhood and training with Tanaka.
- 20:42Hiya, Liam. Breakfast.
- 20:52Until you can meditate, nothing can distract.
- 20:56So that you see. And feel nothing except your own
- 20:59energy. That's iconic.
- 21:02Very iconic. Yeah.
- 21:03OK. Because he's like, his son dies
- 21:06and it's really sad and he's like mourning and Dukes is just
- 21:11like, I want to carry on your legacy.
- 21:13And then they go in the backyard and he just gets dummied and
- 21:16tortured for. Literal tortured for.
- 21:19Like 20. Minutes like BDSM.
- 21:21I seriously for like 20. Minutes and then he comes out of
- 21:24it and he's like super, super strong, super focused, a super
- 21:29good fighter and he's just recalling all this, OK.
- 21:33Well, I I notice you're a fan of the montages.
- 21:36I love montage. You love a good montage.
- 21:38Yeah, Dirty Dancing has them. Rocky has them.
- 21:41Especially if they have. Good music like like this movie.
- 21:43It's it's a good music going with the montage.
- 21:45So yeah, I I like that about you.
- 21:48So my most iconic scene is the you don't look like a Tanaka
- 21:52scene. That part is amazing because
- 21:55JCVD is like, OK, which brick do you want?
- 21:58And JCVD is short for Jean Claude and them.
- 22:01OK, so Jean Claude Van Damme's like, which brick?
- 22:04And he's like, OK, what about that one?
- 22:06Lynn picks the top brick, and then he's about to break it.
- 22:10And it's all like, you know, quiet.
- 22:12There's no music, there's no intensity.
- 22:14And it's just. Paul to what?
- 22:24You guys and then the music starts.
- 22:28It's like like some crazy music just to hype it up.
- 22:32And then you hear like the xylophone and then Van Dams
- 22:36looking at the brick and it's such a good camera angle.
- 22:38It's like from the bottom brick looking up at him and his eyes
- 22:41just balls out of his head and he's like OHS fucking smashes
- 22:49it. It's fucking.
- 22:50Ridiculous. So fucking.
- 22:51Sick. Do you know how many time you
- 22:54how many people have tried that in real life?
- 22:56You know, I think it's actually. Possible.
- 22:58No. So there it is.
- 23:01I'll talk about that later, but it actually is.
- 23:03But anyway, in the movie it's embellished like crazy.
- 23:06Like there's 5 or 6 bricks and the brick explodes like.
- 23:09It has a fucking piece of dynamite legendary.
- 23:11And then it breaks and everybody cheers and claps.
- 23:14And then that's when they introduced Chong Lee, right?
- 23:18He's looking at him, everybody's impressed except Chong Li, and
- 23:21he's just nodding with this little fucking smirk.
- 23:23He's like very good, but Brick not hit back and then gives him
- 23:28this fucking like unfriendly scowl and walks away.
- 23:31Like you show Van Damme's power, right?
- 23:34And then you show the villain of the the movie in one fucking
- 23:38epic 2 minute scene. It's awesome.
- 23:41Yeah, but honestly. The first time I watched it I
- 23:43was like who is that? It wasn't until Chongli cause
- 23:46it's like who is that? He was an integer.
- 23:48Dragon. He was one of the the baddies on
- 23:50that island. There's a Bruce Lee movie, never
- 23:52saw it. It's, you know, it's only.
- 23:54You know, inspired movies like Kill Bill 1 and 2.
- 23:56So it'll be a deal. But yeah, I have the bloodsport
- 24:00that that we honor your invitation and raised like no
- 24:03shit you honor his invitation. Like just to bring levity to the
- 24:08whole scene. It's fucking awesome.
- 24:10Listen mom, I have a lot of quotes.
- 24:12I'm gonna do them with the voices.
- 24:13It's gonna be fucking hilarious. So I'll let you go do yours 1st
- 24:17and then if there's one that I'm doing, I'll just do it with
- 24:19voice, OK? I only.
- 24:21Have I only have five? OK, go.
- 24:23So Dukes walks into Tanaka's room when he's sick and he goes
- 24:27are you asleep? And Tanaka just goes Do you
- 24:30sleep with your eyes open? Quote Underrated quote.
- 24:33Yeah, I like that. You you said this one already,
- 24:37but it you don't look like a Tanaka.
- 24:41And you? Also said this one already very
- 24:43good but Brick not hit back so good.
- 24:47And then there's a scene where the the military guys are coming
- 24:51to take Dukes away and Jackson goes who the hell are these
- 24:56scumbags? And then Rollins says stay out
- 24:59of this pal and Jackson goes, I ain't your pal, Dick face.
- 25:04Your pal Dick Face eat your pal Dick face.
- 25:09I love that line and. Then the last one can force
- 25:12Whittaker's. Such a random start his career,
- 25:14no? Is that like his breakout role
- 25:16or his introducing role? I don't know because.
- 25:19He's like, not really. In it, he's no, he's a couple.
- 25:22She's a side character, yeah. And then my last one.
- 25:24Is Jackson time to separate the men from the boys trying to
- 25:29separate the. Men from the boys.
- 25:30Just be careful. Strongly doesn't separate you
- 25:32hear from your body, Victor. Just be sure Chung Lee doesn't
- 25:36separate your head from your body, just to make sure.
- 25:38Chunky, don't separate your head from your body.
- 25:41Fucking love that. Lynn's fucking amazing in this.
- 25:44He's one of my favorite characters.
- 25:46Yeah, he's like the little brother.
- 25:47So I'll just go through my quotes.
- 25:50I said a few of them already, but I like to do it with the
- 25:52voices and inflections at the bottom.
- 25:54Brick gets broken. We honor your invitation.
- 25:57No shit. You honor his invitation and
- 25:59then Chong Lee very good. But Brick not hit back another
- 26:04Chong Lee like the guy has three lines in the movie.
- 26:07So you break my record, now I break you like I break your
- 26:11front. Such a fucking terrifying thing
- 26:15to say to somebody. And then Tanaka in that
- 26:18emotional scene when they're like mourning his son, I like
- 26:21when he loses his temper. And Van Damme at first because
- 26:23he's like, you are not Japanese. You are not you.
- 26:28Remember that scene I? Don't remember him saying that
- 26:31you don't. Remember saying that.
- 26:32Oh my God, I remember him like wanting.
- 26:34Van Dame to be the punching bag for his kid and.
- 26:38Then when they meet Lynn, he's like, I'm Lynn, you Jackson.
- 26:41You look like a Jackson Frank Dux.
- 26:45No, no, no, it's Dukes. And then when the reporters
- 26:49trying to get the get away from the the the Asian Middle Eastern
- 26:52guy, like what the fuck was that all about?
- 26:56But anyway, he's like, you come upstairs with me for an
- 26:59interview. Like hell, let go of me.
- 27:02You want to say no, no, Hussain is an asshole.
- 27:06What did you call me? And he goes to.
- 27:08Slap her. She's.
- 27:10Like prepared to be. Slapped in the face like yeah
- 27:12chill and then Van Damme. Stops him, he goes.
- 27:15Leaves the Gill alone. Is the American shithead who
- 27:18makes tricks with bricks. Guest committee starts one day
- 27:21earlier this year. Half fellas, he's like, if, if
- 27:25we get doing the fight, then both of us would be kicked out
- 27:28of the committee just for her. That's a fucking cool scene.
- 27:31He does that trick and saves her and then she's like, take me.
- 27:36I mean, she's not like, take me, right?
- 27:38But also she's like. Using him to get into the
- 27:41tournament. Well, she's not cause.
- 27:42She she doesn't get it with him. Yeah, but he probably.
- 27:45Gives her enough and she goes as a date of.
- 27:47Some like we don't know how much, she told.
- 27:49Her. He's like, you can't come in
- 27:50with me. But he don't know how much he
- 27:51told her. But yeah, that whole scene is
- 27:53amazing. Oh, yeah.
- 27:54More quotes. You take this coin.
- 27:57If I can crap it before you close your hand, I get the girl.
- 28:01If I cannot, she's yours. Very good.
- 28:07Those same guy, Ellen Lynn, when they're trying to get Van Dam
- 28:13into the tournament. What's the hold up?
- 28:15He says Senzo Tanaka is his shidoshi.
- 28:18What's the difference if Bruce Springsteen is his shidoshi?
- 28:22I fucking love that line. He gives no fucks like he's
- 28:25gotta invitation. Who gives a shit If Senzo Tanaka
- 28:28is his shidoshi then show us the Dimock.
- 28:33What the hell is a dumac death touch?
- 28:37Such a fucking. And then the bong goes off.
- 28:39Yeah, but did they? Make Tanaka sun do that.
- 28:43Like why? What Ohgi.
- 28:45It's probably because he's white.
- 28:46Probably. I mean it's two step
- 28:48verification. Like you got the invitation, but
- 28:51now I'll do the password. How many?
- 28:53How many motorcycles are in this image?
- 28:56What? Oh my God.
- 29:01OK, this is one of the best quotes.
- 29:03It's Lynn summarizing the tournament for us in like 10
- 29:06seconds. Small content.
- 29:10There are three. Ways to win.
- 29:11One and not the guide out. Two quits, Uncle free full fuck
- 29:20right off the runway. Piece of cake.
- 29:23And then Jax is like piece of cake.
- 29:25Yeah, there's a Jackson. Always does.
- 29:26Yeah, he's fucking Sycho. He's so.
- 29:29Sweaty though fuck like they all are.
- 29:31No, this guy's extra. Sweaty.
- 29:33Yeah, you got young Frank. I say this all the time.
- 29:36I wasn't going to steal it. Yeah, he does say that.
- 29:39All the time for such a bad line.
- 29:40Delivery, it's been stuck in my head forever.
- 29:43And then Chong Lee, you are next, right before he fights Van
- 29:48Damme at the end, he doesn't say the tea.
- 29:51I don't care what anybody says, he just drops the T.
- 29:55Why isn't accents on his fault? Hussein when he fights Van Damme
- 29:59after the coin trick when he loses the girl.
- 30:01Now I show you trick or two. This is ass handed to him.
- 30:06Oh my God, this whole movie is just quote that rich guy that
- 30:09brings the reporter in too late. No such thing as too late.
- 30:13Puts the money in the guys shirt and then as soon as Van Dame
- 30:16walks in, takes it right back. Back.
- 30:18Yeah, and then Lynn, immediately.
- 30:22It's about fucking time. And I wouldn't forget this for
- 30:25my fans, OK, you would say? Who is that that old guy?
- 30:31Is the bouncer, he's just looking at them.
- 30:32He's like, OK, you were saying, how do you not?
- 30:35Like, you missed that There's T-shirts with that guy's face
- 30:38and the thumbs up. And it says OK USA.
- 30:41Oh, my God, That's all the quotes.
- 30:43I think I got everything. It's about like, yeah, you just
- 30:46read. The whole thing I read like. 70
- 30:48minutes of the fucking scrubs. But there's so many good lines.
- 30:52Lynn's got a lot of them. Is this movie a classic or is it
- 30:57cancelled? Alright, so I've been.
- 30:59Waiting for this weather Frank Dukes actually won.
- 31:03The kumite is highly disputed and generally considered a
- 31:08fabrication. Yep.
- 31:10While Dukes. Maintains that he won a secret,
- 31:12no holds barred tournament in 1975.
- 31:15There's no independent, verifiable evidence to support
- 31:19the existence of the tournaments or his alleged 329 to 0 record.
- 31:28He claims. To be a Marshall, a martial
- 31:30artist. He claims to be a CIA.
- 31:33CIA operative. Yeah, there's.
- 31:35All he claims to have. Won an underground bare knuckle
- 31:38competition in the Bahamas in 1975, setting the record for the
- 31:42fastest knockout and the most consecutive knockouts.
- 31:46And this story is what inspired the 1988 film.
- 31:49But the only evidence of this event comes from Dukes is
- 31:53himself and a magazine that are that interviewed him.
- 31:56And critics point out that none of his supposed opponents ever
- 32:00came forward. Yeah.
- 32:01And nobody else verified his claims, including fighting in
- 32:05300 plus matches. And like I said, being a CIA
- 32:09operative, it's been heavily questioned.
- 32:12Yes, this. Story has been called.
- 32:14The wildest martial arts hoaxes of all time and a fabricated lie
- 32:18by researchers. Dukes.
- 32:20Has. Previously claimed that the
- 32:22military and others tried to discredit him by destroying the
- 32:25records, but it's more likely that he just is somebody who
- 32:29tells tall tales. So while Bloodsport is a martial
- 32:32arts classic, it's claimed to be based on a true story is not
- 32:36backed by any evidence whatsoever.
- 32:38Yeah, and the Kumatai itself is probably not something that was
- 32:43ever real side. It's.
- 32:44Funny, it's like this Side Story.
- 32:45You could make a documentary about the making of this movie
- 32:48now with Frank Dukes like you can at the end of.
- 32:51The movie They're like This is based on a true story.
- 32:53This is what Duke said. But that was the time nobody
- 32:56looked into. It you couldn't it.
- 32:57Was the time, remember, when there was no Internet?
- 33:00You couldn't shut up and you were a kid and people would just
- 33:03say things, this guy claimed. To invent a type of martial arts
- 33:07you that's also a lie. He lied about everything.
- 33:10I, I, you know. What I kind of missed those
- 33:12days. I kind of missed the days where
- 33:14you could be a kid and be like, my daddy bought an airplane.
- 33:17It's like, oh, that's so cool. My God.
- 33:21Instagram and like, well, your dad didn't post with the air.
- 33:23How much is? Coming up on OHP, it's like
- 33:26$1,000,000 for an airplane. Oh, well, your dad only makes
- 33:29$50,000 a year saying he couldn't about an airplane, You
- 33:32know what I mean? Like, this was the time where
- 33:34you could just, like, know some martial arts and just lie about
- 33:38shit. I won this tournament.
- 33:40Yeah, it was a more innocent time.
- 33:42But this guy lied heavily to the extent of making up this fake
- 33:47intense tournament and lied to these movie makers to make a
- 33:50movie about him. No kudos to.
- 33:52Him. But The thing is for everyone
- 33:54that I'm not, I'm not, I'm not saying it's true, but there's a
- 33:57lot of the Internet that love this movie.
- 33:59And then when this shit came out, they like you so stupid.
- 34:03Frank Dukes, He's a fraud. There's a listen.
- 34:06They did the same thing to Steven Seagal, OK.
- 34:09And yeah, Segal has had some shit and he's done some crazy
- 34:12shit. Like he hangs out with world
- 34:14leaders that people like. Why are you hanging out with
- 34:16them? It was a time where you couldn't
- 34:18prove stuff. Not everything was caught.
- 34:20Like they still say the space and it was was fake, you know,
- 34:24because because they're like, how did you get this footage?
- 34:26How did you get this? They didn't have the footage.
- 34:28They not everything was recorded right.
- 34:30And they're trying to do this with blue Bruce Lee.
- 34:32I'm not comparing Bruce Lee to Frank Dukes, but Bruce Lee's
- 34:35getting discredited now for a lot of stuff because you know
- 34:38how society is. The time passes and then people
- 34:41forget and people don't, you know, read and they just read
- 34:43what idiots saying this is. Drastic, he laughed with for
- 34:46every person that. Says Frank Dukes made it up.
- 34:49There's somebody that says, no, I was there.
- 34:52I saw it. I was.
- 34:53We were researching in this and I found footage of this guy at a
- 34:56tournament. It's black and white.
- 34:58You can't hear anything. So who's to say?
- 35:01Yeah, I'm sure he competed. In some tournaments, but he
- 35:03made-up the kumatai and he made-up like all these
- 35:06incredible records he broke and nobody was there to say he know
- 35:11he didn't do that. So people just believed him.
- 35:13Yeah, Well, he. Created a fucking movie out of
- 35:17his fake story that he made, and the movie fucking slaps.
- 35:21And good for him, he got paid. I'm sure the guy knows martial
- 35:25arts. I've seen the footage, he has
- 35:27students. You know, for everybody that
- 35:29says he's a fraud, there's somebody that says he's not, you
- 35:34know, I'm sure. He knows some martial arts, I'm
- 35:36sure he has thoughts on fighting.
- 35:38There's movies about it, there's there's underground fighting
- 35:41tournaments. Obviously it's super embellished
- 35:44in this movie, like there's gambling involved, like, but
- 35:47it's kind of believable because he says the triads are involved.
- 35:49So they control the underground stuff in in China and they're
- 35:54like, OK, well, his, his. Story was based on a fighting
- 35:58competition in the Bahamas. It wasn't even in China.
- 36:00No, it wasn't in China. They changed, he said.
- 36:02They changed it for the movie, but yeah, it was in the Bahamas.
- 36:05And some of the stuff he says, 56 knockouts like or something
- 36:10like that. It's crazy.
- 36:10Like 3. 100 plus 1/01. Two, fastest knockout kick.
- 36:15Like like who? Who timed that?
- 36:18How do you get that time? You know what I mean?
- 36:20That's the thing. It was.
- 36:21An underground tournament, so there's no record of it.
- 36:23So you can say whatever you want.
- 36:24No, I know, but. If he did lie, he fucking, he
- 36:27finessed everybody. I don't think anybody got hurt.
- 36:31That's what he did Lie. And then like, it's kind of just
- 36:33a bummer to find out it was a whole lie when you watch this
- 36:36whole movie and then you're told at the end that it was real.
- 36:38But I was shocked when they said it was like, this was real.
- 36:41It's. Interesting.
- 36:42Yeah. It's interesting though, when
- 36:45the movie becomes bigger than the lie.
- 36:47I think that's pretty cool. Yeah, but.
- 36:49That's the thing. This could be a fictional story.
- 36:51That's fine. It wouldn't have made it better
- 36:54or worse. They could have just said it was
- 36:56made-up. I'm glad we.
- 36:57Brought up the Dukes thing right away because yeah, it's a, it's
- 37:01a hot topic and people try to talk about it and how he's
- 37:05discredited and stuff and the guys never really come out and
- 37:07said anything. So it's a good chance that he's
- 37:09lied. But man, to make a freaking
- 37:12there's there's sequels to this. There's, you know, there's blood
- 37:15sport too. I saw online.
- 37:16There were SQL. He toted a story around
- 37:18Hollywood and it sold. Yeah, good for him.
- 37:20Like good for you dude, but it's not true but.
- 37:23Hollywood's full. Of liars, that's all they do.
- 37:24So just like they lie true, somebody gets lucky and they
- 37:28they become famous and rich. But I wrote, you know, is this
- 37:32movie classic or cancelled? Well, you know, aside from the
- 37:34Dukes thing, this is a martial arts movie.
- 37:37Classic. Jean Claude Van Damme's poster
- 37:40can be found in any MMA and karate school.
- 37:43Even though the Franks Duke thing, Frank Dukes thing is
- 37:46still like a sham, people love this movie.
- 37:50Like if you go to a Dojo or karate Dojo, you'll see this
- 37:53movie poster. It's pinnacle of martial arts
- 37:55movie before everything got too serious.
- 37:57You know, like, they make MMA movies and fighting Movies Now,
- 38:01and you've seen like The Fighter and then you see Rocky and
- 38:05they're very different. The Fighter looks like it's
- 38:08being filmed in a real boxing ring.
- 38:10It says HBO and stuff like that. The Rocky movies were just like,
- 38:14you know, cartoony 80s chaos. You know, everybody's on roids,
- 38:19but this movie still comes out on top, is entertaining even for
- 38:22someone who isn't a fan of the genre necessarily.
- 38:25And you, you said it's entertaining.
- 38:27You can get through it. It's not like you got to turn it
- 38:29off. However, we got to talk about
- 38:32the tree jumping fighter, the black guy.
- 38:37So I I looked. Into him.
- 38:38What the fuck is going on? So that is a.
- 38:41That's a real type of martial arts.
- 38:43It's called Monkey Kung Fu, OK? And you?
- 38:46Are supposed to act monkey like. It's supposed to confuse your
- 38:50opponent and the movements are supposed to be like that
- 38:53because. It's it's it's basically it's an
- 38:58agile. Way of fighting, yeah.
- 39:00But I could. See how it could be construed as
- 39:03offensive because he is acting like a monkey.
- 39:06Yeah, so the actor who was actually a martial artist, Eric
- 39:10Neff, was a practitioner of seven star praying mantis Kung
- 39:13Fu who imitated monkey style, which is called Who Quan for the
- 39:17role. After his training in Hong Kong.
- 39:20The character is briefly seen in the movie performing like this
- 39:23crazy jump where he's jumping on people and jumping on a tree and
- 39:26he cracks one guy's head open like a coconut.
- 39:29I knew it had to. Be a real type of fighting
- 39:31because he was so agile and he was doing it so seamlessly.
- 39:35Yeah. Like, there's no way this was
- 39:36just made-up for the movie. Yeah, it's an authentic.
- 39:39Chinese martial arts that includes includes acrobatic,
- 39:43sudden and deceptive techniques involving rolls, flips and
- 39:46grappling. And the guy after the movie
- 39:49became a specialized instructor in capoeira, which is like the
- 39:52Brazilian it looks like dancing almost.
- 39:55It's rhythmic martial arts. I've heard of that martial arts.
- 39:57Basically. Using your momentum and timing.
- 40:00Hmm. But yeah, it's a real thing.
- 40:03So yeah. Cause we.
- 40:04We. Weren't sure, I guess.
- 40:06Yeah, we weren't sure when we saw it because we weren't.
- 40:08What the fuck? Is this?
- 40:09We weren't sure if it was. Made-up and so that just kind.
- 40:12Of shows that they really did some homework for this movie
- 40:14because they showed us something that we're like yo, that's hella
- 40:17racist bro, but it's a real thing yeah, it's well and.
- 40:20There's there's, there's so many different types of fighting
- 40:22shown in this. Yeah, from dog boxing to sumo
- 40:25wrestling. There's a sumo wrestler shown.
- 40:28Muay Thai. Jiu Jitsu, basically like
- 40:32Nando's. Taekwondo, Jujitsu, Karate.
- 40:35Like basically using this. There's some wushu, yeah, like a
- 40:38lot of. Different martial arts are
- 40:39showcased. That one was just very odd and
- 40:41unique. Yeah, the sumo.
- 40:43Wrestler guys, but it is real. Yeah.
- 40:46The more you know the. Rainbow, the more you know, next
- 40:51segment is party like it's 2026. Yeah.
- 40:55So just to kind of stay on the topic that we were just talking
- 40:58about, if this movie was made today, it would not be about a
- 41:01white guy beating every other ethnicity in martial arts.
- 41:04Yeah, that's a good point. The lead would.
- 41:06Likely be a Chinese or Japanese person if we're going to be
- 41:09honest. Oh.
- 41:10Probably, yeah. Yeah, maybe.
- 41:12Depends. They did that Karate Kid movie
- 41:14with Bruce Lee with Will Smith son Jaden Smith, remember before
- 41:19he became all crazy it. Can be somebody of a different
- 41:22race. I'm just saying like typically
- 41:24it wouldn't just like be showing a white person dummying
- 41:26everybody. Yeah, they probably would have
- 41:28somebody with a different background.
- 41:31Yeah, so in this. Movie.
- 41:32If it was in 2026, um, it would be basically UFC but with no
- 41:38rules, which really happened. I don't know if you know this
- 41:41the original UFC that started in 1993, there were no weight
- 41:45classes right? So you'd have really light guys
- 41:48fighting with heavy big tall guys, which is not allowed
- 41:51anymore because you can really do some damage, right?
- 41:54Because there's weight classes in boxing for reason could
- 41:57easily. Kill someone and.
- 41:59Basically, there was almost no rules, no time limits, and it
- 42:02was a tournament designed to see who and which martial arts would
- 42:06come out on top. It's it really happened.
- 42:08And then, you know, I think ownership changed and stuff like
- 42:11that. And they cleaned it up.
- 42:13You know, they tried to make it a little bit more humane.
- 42:17Cause there were some fights, I think that were not allowed to
- 42:20show on TV. Like you'd have to buy this and
- 42:22like, remember, you'd have to like special order tape
- 42:24sometimes. Yeah.
- 42:25And you could. And you could never prove what
- 42:27what martial arts is the best because it all depends on the
- 42:30martial artist. There could be somebody
- 42:31incredible at karate and somebody equally is incredible
- 42:34at jujitsu also. I want to give a little kudos to
- 42:37Van Damme. Nobody else in this day and age
- 42:41could bring the charisma that he brings in this movie.
- 42:44You know, his acting is not the best, but I've seen worse.
- 42:48And the martial arts like the the Roundhouse kick that this
- 42:52guy gives, even you were amazed and you don't nothing about
- 42:55martial arts and you. Saw how high?
- 42:57His leg went, he kicked me like what the fuck?
- 42:59He's talented and he's athletic, and he told me that he actually
- 43:02took ballet to be able to, yeah, do some of those really high
- 43:05kicks and splits and stuff. Yeah, that is impressive.
- 43:07He's very super super. Athletic and I think there.
- 43:11Are other actors that are equally as athletic these days
- 43:14that could? I don't think I could.
- 43:16I couldn't come up with anybody to replace him in this if it
- 43:18was. I'm just saying.
- 43:19Direct replacement. But yeah, for me, I said to
- 43:23replace Frank Dukes, you could do Chris Evans because I did
- 43:27some research. Chris Evans is highly trained in
- 43:30Brazilian jujitsu and karate flips in.
- 43:33The movies he does himself, yeah, he's.
- 43:36He's very athletic and he's he's trained.
- 43:38And another person I chose that could have been Frank Dukes is
- 43:41Chris Hemsworth. Yeah.
- 43:43And similarly, he's highly trained in Muay Thai, boxing and
- 43:48other mixed martial art. Have to be.
- 43:50Ray Jackson, you'd be perfect for it.
- 43:52I did originally. Have him as Jackson, but he he's
- 43:55too much of A leading man. And for me, I wanted Jackson to
- 43:58be somebody huge, so I picked Jason Momoa.
- 44:02Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, because he's got the
- 44:04biker vibe too. He has the charisma.
- 44:06And he's enormous because it has to be somebody who's who's big
- 44:09and yeah, he has like the bad guy biker vibes with the tattoos
- 44:13and stuff. So I thought he would make a
- 44:15really good Jackson for for today's age.
- 44:18And for Chung, Li actually picked Similou, who plays Not
- 44:24big enough. Though he plays Shang.
- 44:26Chi yeah, yeah. In the Marvel movie, he has
- 44:30advanced training in Tai Chi and Wing Chung.
- 44:33For the Shang Chi movie, he specifically trained highly in
- 44:36martial arts, and he also had previous martial arts training
- 44:38throughout his youth. So he could be a really good
- 44:41villain. You're saying you don't think
- 44:43he's big enough? But he is in really good shape.
- 44:45He's fucking. Enormous.
- 44:46The guy's chest is like, you're not gonna find.
- 44:48An actor today that's like that, they'll be, you'd have to be on
- 44:52it. Have to be a like a wrestler.
- 44:53It couldn't be a real traditional actor, you know, I'd
- 44:56have to be as somebody who's like 6 foot 5.
- 44:58And just like I used to play football.
- 45:01John Lee is not. 6 foot 5 in this movie he looks.
- 45:04Towering, he looks huge. He's not.
- 45:07I know he's not. But when he's next to Jackson in
- 45:09the ring he looks like, I don't know if it's the camera work or
- 45:12something, but the guy just looks like a couch with legs
- 45:14walking towards you. I guess they can't.
- 45:16Have Jackson towering over him because it would take away his
- 45:18menacing Ness. But they look kind of.
- 45:21Evenly even Stevens in the in the ring, yeah, but I don't
- 45:25think. He's that big.
- 45:27That's the biggest fuck. Up he had him.
- 45:29He should have just ended it. I know he just got.
- 45:31Two, he got too cocky, got way too cocky.
- 45:33Like how cocky are you bro this guy just killed like 6 people.
- 45:36You turned your back just. Cause the guy like took a knee.
- 45:38Basically, the guy took a. Knee like it's not, it's not
- 45:41done. He just killed a.
- 45:42Bunch of people. Like, do you think he's gonna
- 45:44let you live? Yeah.
- 45:46He's lucky he survived. He was lucky to.
- 45:48Survive. Yeah, he put him in the.
- 45:50Hospital in a coma, yeah. Did you?
- 45:53So you said you couldn't find anybody breakfast this.
- 45:56And you know, also, I just want to say the action guys, the 80s,
- 46:00there were a different breed. You had Stallone, you had Arnie,
- 46:04you know, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Carl Weathers.
- 46:07Like these guys were built different.
- 46:10They they were on that special old school roids.
- 46:12I swear they were just there on the roads that.
- 46:15Absolutely destroy your genitals and make you so enormous burst
- 46:19out of your. Asshole, how is Arnold?
- 46:21Still alive. Like seriously.
- 46:24I don't know. He's made it to a.
- 46:26Decently old age for a roid guy he was.
- 46:29Yeah, he's, he's a big boy. So alright, can you watch this
- 46:33with your parents? Yeah, it's very violent.
- 46:39Yeah. So it's not necessarily like a
- 46:41wholesome family movie, but sure, there's no nudity and the
- 46:44sexuality is very mild. Like when Frank Dukes has sex
- 46:48with Janice, it is kind of awkward scene where Frank wakes
- 46:53up after spending the night with Janis and she's watching him
- 46:56from across the room and he's just adjusting like his skin
- 46:59tight maroon undies. Yeah, that's a little
- 47:02uncomfortable. Became a.
- 47:03Thing showing Van Damme's rear end in movies, It just became a
- 47:07thing. Well, yeah, it's nice.
- 47:09But she was. Wearing women's underwear.
- 47:11Basically you I mean and they. Were marooned.
- 47:15They. Gotta be tight.
- 47:16He's gonna fight like. The Speedo before it was.
- 47:19Speedo, does he have kids? Was he was wearing some tight
- 47:22underwear? Maybe you not supposed to
- 47:24serious from yeah. Yeah, Now I think he has kids.
- 47:26He's the muscles from Brussels. What do you want?
- 47:29I said yes. Anyone can appreciate John
- 47:31Claude Van Damme's motivation in this movie.
- 47:34You know, he's training. He's trying to honor somebody.
- 47:36But also people can just like, I don't care who you are.
- 47:40The fight scenes in this, like this used to be playing in my
- 47:42house. And doesn't matter who was
- 47:45watching, they'd walk by and they'd see somebody do, like,
- 47:48martial arts move and just fuck somebody up.
- 47:51Like it. People just watch.
- 47:53They don't look away. I caught you looking up when
- 47:56you're making your notes a second time, just looking at the
- 47:58fights. I was like, oh, like she can
- 48:01appreciate a good, you know, a good martial arts match.
- 48:04Yeah. Yeah, I looked.
- 48:05Into it. But when when you say that about
- 48:07just people walking by, I just pretty sure you and your
- 48:09brothers just like bullying your sisters growing up and being
- 48:12like, no, you're not watching TV.
- 48:13We're watching this. Your sister is being like
- 48:15Bloodsport again. Fuck no.
- 48:19There was enough TV's in the house.
- 48:21They watched Friends anyway. That's all they're gonna watch.
- 48:26OK, What's your favorite supporting character and least
- 48:28favorite it's? Obviously, my favorite is
- 48:31Jackson. What you think you can give me
- 48:37some competition? Sure, I'll try.
- 48:41That's what I like to hear. Kitty wasn't afraid to lose.
- 48:44No, no, I got. I want to take the money.
- 48:49You ready, Jackson? You look like a Jackson.
- 48:52Yeah, he does look like. A Jackson, he has a lot of
- 48:55awesome 1 liners. He's a hardcore fighter, but
- 48:58he's also the Comic Relief of the movie.
- 49:01Yeah, and he has a really good attitude.
- 49:03He like, he brings a lot of levity.
- 49:05And he's also a good friend of Frank.
- 49:07Like, Frank's really devastated when he's hurt because he's,
- 49:10he's a good friend to him. So I, I, I liked him.
- 49:13Did you like the ending? Scene.
- 49:14He's like anytime, any place, anywhere.
- 49:17Yeah, and he looks. In with like his cock eye and
- 49:19his crooked ass teeth and he's like anytime, yeah and then.
- 49:23Says I love you my friend, and he says me too.
- 49:27They kissed. No, he kissed him on.
- 49:29His head, because he's in the hospital.
- 49:31His buddy. I mean, it was.
- 49:33It was a little much. Yeah, he was there.
- 49:35For him, the guy could have died in the China hospital.
- 49:38Nobody would have known. Yeah, is.
- 49:40Is your favorite Victor? Yeah, Mindlin.
- 49:42Yeah, Jackson, you look like a Jackson.
- 49:44He's so funny, the guys. Like you can't judge his acting
- 49:48because he's delivering these fucking lines.
- 49:50Like I actually think he's probably 1.
- 49:52Of the best areas, he's probably one of the best actors in the
- 49:55movie because he he does what he's supposed to do and he
- 49:57doesn't he's supposed to. Do he makes you laugh?
- 49:59And he he serious when he is? And then, you know, when he's
- 50:03walking them through Kowloon City, the Walled City in Hong
- 50:07Kong, which is now like been destroyed.
- 50:09He's talking about how like the triads are allowing to to have
- 50:12this underground competition here.
- 50:14Like, it's just really interesting narration almost, or
- 50:17like it's exposition for the audience as to what's going on
- 50:21and what this tournament is about.
- 50:22And he's just fucking cool. You know, he's like, it's about
- 50:25fucking time. Yeah.
- 50:27He's he's. Some Comic Relief as well.
- 50:29So my least favorite character is Janice.
- 50:32She begs to be included and invited into Kumatai and then
- 50:36after watching like literally one fight she tries to talk
- 50:40Frank out of fighting and then she tells on him to the police.
- 50:44I know. Then the next day she goes back
- 50:47to the fight and she's smiling at him.
- 50:50Like the fire? She's the worst.
- 50:52Also, if you're a. Hardcore reporter looking to
- 50:55report on an underground fighting match.
- 50:59You should have a little bit of a thicker skin.
- 51:02Yeah, She she couldn't. She like, watched one fight and
- 51:04she was like, Oh my God, this is so violent.
- 51:07What did you say? It's it's it's.
- 51:08It's why they call it. Illegal.
- 51:10Why? They call it Bloodsport.
- 51:11Kid, that's a quote we didn't say.
- 51:14It's it's fucking line of the movie Contact.
- 51:16Illegal underground fighting ring.
- 51:18Yeah, I know. Of course it's.
- 51:20Going to be violent. So like she pissed me off so
- 51:24much I didn't like her at all. She's my least favorite.
- 51:27As well I just I just wrote 2 words I'm just gonna freestyle
- 51:31it like I I wrote she sucks like she's just suck.
- 51:34She does suck. OK so no offence cause she's.
- 51:37Like the only woman in the movie.
- 51:38I'm not trying to be anti woman listen but if.
- 51:40You're an investigative reporter and you know that there's this
- 51:43underground gang mob related illegal fighting competition.
- 51:48The last thing you're going to do is go around these fighters
- 51:52and tell them you're fucking order.
- 51:55You're gonna go in undercover from the second you land in Hong
- 51:58Kong. You don't want anybody to know
- 52:00your reporter, you know? And then she sleeps with one of
- 52:03the fighters. So you kind of make yourself
- 52:06seem kind of cheap because we obviously understand her
- 52:09motivations and I'm not trying to shit on her.
- 52:12Only Van Damme. What are you doing?
- 52:14You're not supposed to be in bed with a woman when you're about
- 52:18to fight. Everybody knows that.
- 52:19Yeah. And also.
- 52:20If he's like supposedly like does all this meditation and
- 52:23he's super into fighting and focused.
- 52:25Why are you? Why are you fucking?
- 52:26Someone you don't even know you right before your first
- 52:28reporter? What if you?
- 52:29Catch syphilis bro. What if you get itchy in the
- 52:32middle of a fight? Well, I'm sure he is.
- 52:33You know what if you what? If you start scratching in the
- 52:35middle of fight and you're, you know you.
- 52:38I'm just. Saying fighters are it's
- 52:40traditional. It's known that they're supposed
- 52:42to stay abstinent before 4 weeks before a fight because it
- 52:45increases focus, aggression, everything.
- 52:47You know, it always like who was it?
- 52:49I think it was Muhammad Ali said women weak in the legs.
- 52:52I think it was him that said that.
- 52:53So yeah, like you're supposed to keep keep away for a little
- 52:57while. This guy just like, oh, I just
- 52:59saw Chong Lee just murder a bunch of people.
- 53:02And I'm going to just go, you know, with this reporter.
- 53:04But they talk about it in. Spartacus, too, like the
- 53:07gladiators are like, don't have sex before you're gonna go into
- 53:09the ring because it like, a week, like love weakens you.
- 53:12Yeah, exactly. And I mean.
- 53:14Yeah, now. Scientifically, I don't think
- 53:17there's any proof that that's true, but I think it's
- 53:20psychological for the man it could be.
- 53:23I'm glad we both agree. That the reporter is trashed.
- 53:26This is the. Worst, I don't even remember
- 53:27her. Name.
- 53:27I just put report. Janice.
- 53:29Yeah. Cultural impact.
- 53:30You want you wanna go for? You want me to go first?
- 53:32You can go first. OK, I got 2 words.
- 53:35Mortal Kombat. That's in mine.
- 53:37Too this movie. Inspired the franchise video
- 53:42game and what became to turn into a movie multiple movies.
- 53:47Mortal Kombat the creators of the game they wanted the
- 53:51character of Frank Dukes. Jean-Claude Van They wanted to
- 53:57make a game out of Bloodsport and they couldn't come up with a
- 54:00deal so they just stole the character so Johnny Cage is
- 54:04based on. Frank Dukes.
- 54:07And he looks exactly like him. Yeah, and.
- 54:12For years and years and years everybody knew this.
- 54:14And then about decades later, in 2020, yeah decades later, 2023,
- 54:19they got a deal made and Van Dams likeness and voice is the
- 54:25one of the skins for the Johnny Cage character.
- 54:28Exactly from. Bloodsport, it's really cool
- 54:31when you look it up, like it's something you can download.
- 54:33It's a DLC. No, that is cool.
- 54:36I think it's pretty. Cool.
- 54:37But also, you know, Karate Kid brought sign ups of kids to
- 54:40karate by bloodsport, made adults get martial arts
- 54:43memberships, you know what I mean?
- 54:45Yeah, it. It it definitely inspired
- 54:47martial arts popularity and spurred a new interest in
- 54:52training in the late 1980s, early 1990s.
- 54:56And it's noted for being one of the first Western films to
- 54:58showcase Muay Thai. Yeah.
- 55:00Yeah, I believe that. I didn't know that.
- 55:03Yeah, it. Also is the influence on M&K
- 55:06about sports, It's credited with popularizing the concept of no
- 55:10holds barred tournament, Yeah, and showcasing various fighting
- 55:13styles like you said, which which was part of the rise of of
- 55:17UFC. Yeah.
- 55:18So it was one of the direct inspirations.
- 55:21For martial for. MMA and UFC now people, they
- 55:24mix. Different styles to create.
- 55:26Like basically you weaponize yourself into becoming this
- 55:30unsolvable fighter that you can get out of all kinds of
- 55:33different styles. And yeah, which is cool.
- 55:35Because a lot of people that study martial arts, they will
- 55:38study more than one kind. Well, Bruce Lee developed.
- 55:41Jeet Kundo Hmm. And he felt like there were the
- 55:44old systems were too rigid and it's he said you need to be
- 55:48liquid like water. You gotta be able to switch
- 55:50styles in the middle of a fight cause you don't know what the
- 55:53person across from you is going to bring.
- 55:55Yeah, you should you. Should be able to to know if a
- 55:57few different styles and most people that study martial arts,
- 56:00there's more than one type that they know how to do.
- 56:02Yeah, my brothers. They grew up doing Kung Fu, and
- 56:06then my oldest brother went into karate.
- 56:08Yeah, he's a black. Early adult, Yeah.
- 56:10And so he, he knows a lot more about martial arts than I do.
- 56:15And he's the one who brought this movie home.
- 56:17Yeah. And he.
- 56:18He. He went on to teach martial arts
- 56:19to kids too. He had his own.
- 56:21He had his own karate studio. Always tried to get me.
- 56:23Into it and I just, I don't know.
- 56:24I couldn't do it. I don't know why.
- 56:26Um, it's it's. Also a cult classic.
- 56:30Ohe yeah, this movie. Despite mixed.
- 56:31Critical reviews on the release it it grew a massive loyal fan
- 56:35base and it's known for iconic iconic quotes, training montages
- 56:39and the soundtrack song fight to survive, which which should be
- 56:43on everybody's cool. It should.
- 56:45Be on everybody's. Workout workout mix because it
- 56:47it really does get you going. Similar to Eye of the Tiger.
- 56:50Freaking awesome. It's.
- 56:51The martial arts equivalent of I of the Tiger, I think.
- 56:54Yeah. And also Jean-Claude Van Damme
- 56:57splits. Culturally iconic.
- 56:59He has that Volvo truck commercial.
- 57:00You remember that you ever seen that commercial?
- 57:03There's 2 Volvo semis, like 18 Wheelers and there's, they're,
- 57:06they're right next to each other, but you don't see them.
- 57:09Van Dams got 1 foot on each of the roof and they start to drive
- 57:13apart and he slowly does the splits and they're driving
- 57:17perfectly the distance so that he can do the splits between
- 57:20them. It's obviously, you know, not
- 57:23done that way because it's super dangerous.
- 57:25But it it was a random Volvo commercial like 30 years after
- 57:29this movie and he was still doing the splits.
- 57:32The guy is freaking amazing. Like, literally.
- 57:34Just every like does that not hurt his his nut sack?
- 57:37No. It's you stretch you, you, you
- 57:40train the muscles and the joints and ligaments to be able to do
- 57:43that. It's just cause.
- 57:44Anytime he does that, like in the movie, Jackson's like, if
- 57:47you ever wanna have kids, you might want to stop doing that.
- 57:49Like, I'm hurting just looking at you.
- 57:50Yeah, you might. Wanna have kids these days?
- 57:53I love that line. I can't believe we didn't say
- 57:54that one. Yeah.
- 57:57He's been training martial arts since he was 10.
- 57:59Van Damme. Yeah.
- 58:00And he's actual champion. I looked up some of his titles,
- 58:03so yeah, I, I. Believe that he was.
- 58:05He was in incredible shape, and he obviously nobody was doing.
- 58:08Yeah, but the splits and the high kicks are just insane.
- 58:11Like, that amount of flexibility is rare in men.
- 58:13Yeah, he's always oiled. Up every scene no matter what
- 58:16before the fight starts, he just shiny the guy I was talking with
- 58:19you. Were watching the movie too and
- 58:21I was like the the shape he's in he either is on steroids or he
- 58:27is super unhealthy like not eating enough calories or
- 58:30drinking enough water because that's the only way you can make
- 58:33yourself look that chiseled. Super athletic.
- 58:35I think just his body was trained that way, yeah.
- 58:38Also, do you know how he got the role?
- 58:40No. I heard.
- 58:41That he was following the movie producer around Hollywood like
- 58:45crazy and he was annoying the guy and he said, I need to be in
- 58:47this movie and he's in this movie.
- 58:49And the guy is like, no, get away from me.
- 58:50And he did a fucking Roundhouse kick in the air in street
- 58:54clothes. And the guys like you got the
- 58:57fucking job. He's like, you're, you're good.
- 59:00He did his his signature Roundhouse kick and everybody's
- 59:03like so cringey. That's fucking.
- 59:05Gangster, watch this. Yeah, I bet you if you did the
- 59:10splits, the guy wouldn't have cared, but he did a Roundhouse
- 59:12kick that he's like, I've never seen anything like that.
- 59:14So that's epic. The soundtrack, we mentioned it.
- 59:18It's 80s montage heaven. Honestly, yeah, it's just any
- 59:22montage you can come up with. You can play this in the
- 59:25background. It's very 80s.
- 59:27With the. And literally made a month out
- 59:38of that song, The Fight to Survive with clips of me playing
- 59:42basketball, like as a joke. So yeah, it's it's very. 80s
- 59:46very sports. Oriented.
- 59:50Yeah, yeah, like this. There's a little bit of
- 59:52synthetic song like synthetic sound in it.
- 59:56It it, it matches the movie pretty perfectly.
- 59:58Cool. Cool, me too.
- 1:00:01Even the slower songs like the opening, when the opening
- 1:00:04sequence where they show like they're getting the ring ready
- 1:00:07and then you see the different fighters.
- 1:00:09It's like, fuck, man. Like it's cool.
- 1:00:11They introduced Chong Lee breaking ice blocks the size of
- 1:00:14like, Yeah, that was pretty good.
- 1:00:16That's. Fucking sick dude.
- 1:00:18That was pretty cool. That's.
- 1:00:19Cool. I think it was really cool.
- 1:00:22Tomorrow we leave for the committee.
- 1:00:26OK, location, location, location.
- 1:00:28What do you got? I kind of.
- 1:00:30Touched on this earlier, but Tanaka's backyard.
- 1:00:33OK the montage back there is awesome and we see Frank Dukes
- 1:00:37becoming a badass. Plus I like the fighting mats
- 1:00:40that they battle on and the the medieval torture devices.
- 1:00:46Yeah, we're like how? Fucked they.
- 1:00:48Ties them just. To ropes and then just chooses
- 1:00:50Did you find? Out who came up with that?
- 1:00:51Whose idea was that I didn't look at.
- 1:00:53It was like, look. What I can do, You pull my leg
- 1:00:56this way, I pull my leg that way and I do it.
- 1:00:59You just record. No, somebody on the.
- 1:01:00Movie is just a fucking freak and you came up with that those,
- 1:01:03Maybe they're like yellow. I wanna break this guy in half
- 1:01:06pulls full of fucking robes. You my location favorite
- 1:01:11location is the arena. I think it's perfect.
- 1:01:15Um, it's got those boards, old school boards with the fighters
- 1:01:18names on it, those old timey like prices, right, like stage
- 1:01:24set lights and the the mat is looks very aggressive.
- 1:01:28There's stains of blood on it and stuff like that.
- 1:01:31I think it's just really cool. You know you got this like pit
- 1:01:34behind made of sand with sand and they just the fighters all.
- 1:01:38I think the the arena is really cool.
- 1:01:39Just talking about the. Stains is disgusting when that
- 1:01:42guy who's cleaning the stains off the mats pops up and he sees
- 1:01:44the gold tooth. I mean, yeah.
- 1:01:46He picks it up and. He tests, He bites on it.
- 1:01:48Yeah. Which first of all, you.
- 1:01:50Yeah, I know. And then he steals it and he
- 1:01:52wipes the blood off the bat, You nasty.
- 1:01:53Well. It's probably worth a lot.
- 1:01:56I don't know. I mean, yeah, that much gold in
- 1:01:59solid gold, right? It has to be.
- 1:02:00But that was in somebody. 'S mouth.
- 1:02:01No, I didn't say bite. It I'm just saying he's probably
- 1:02:04excited. How many germs are?
- 1:02:05On that shit, who knows what the guy is.
- 1:02:07Into So who gets to spin off Mom?
- 1:02:10It's obviously. Jackson, a movie about him
- 1:02:13getting in really good shape and preparing for the committee.
- 1:02:15You look like a Jackson. I got Frank Dukes in his 50s.
- 1:02:20His hips are shot, but he teaches yoga in California.
- 1:02:24He can't do the splits. Anymore, but it's in the curb.
- 1:02:27Your enthusiasm, style of recording, that split decision.
- 1:02:32Ohhhhh. My God.
- 1:02:33Basically, he's in his. Like twilight years and he just
- 1:02:37won't let go of his past. And I think it'd be pretty
- 1:02:39funny. So Chong Lee, you are next the
- 1:02:44TV show. It would be his revenge ark, but
- 1:02:47this time there's two of them because Frank Dukes.
- 1:02:51Like I'm thinking like A tag team tournament where Frank is
- 1:02:55partners with Ray. They have to tag in and then
- 1:02:57Chong Lee has a new partner and it's just like, I don't know,
- 1:03:00little guy who's really dangerous and fast.
- 1:03:02I think it'd be pretty cool. Part 2 was not Van Damme.
- 1:03:05It was not Bolo Young. It was all new people.
- 1:03:08No, Jackson was in it. Oh, he was in the.
- 1:03:10Second one, Yeah, he's in the second.
- 1:03:12One what? Yeah, he reprised his role, you
- 1:03:15guy. I can't believe I didn't know
- 1:03:17that. I kind of wanna watch it now.
- 1:03:19You just wanna. See more somewhere?
- 1:03:20Yeah, he's fucking. One of the best.
- 1:03:22Care. He's your favorite supporting
- 1:03:23character? Yeah, I thought he was.
- 1:03:24Great. OK, double.
- 1:03:25Feature. What are you watching with this?
- 1:03:27I mean, I brought. It up several times.
- 1:03:29I would watch. I wanna watch a good fight movie
- 1:03:31after this kind of shitty one. I wanna watch Kill Bill.
- 1:03:34Kill Bill. Kill Bill.
- 1:03:35Kill. Bill, one or two, both of them
- 1:03:37work fair. Enough.
- 1:03:39I want to see that. Samurai sword action after this
- 1:03:42fair. Enough.
- 1:03:42That's a different type of fighting though.
- 1:03:44Sword fighting. It's such a better.
- 1:03:46Movie it's. Not a better fighting movie.
- 1:03:49I would watch Double Impact after this.
- 1:03:51I'll keep it John Claude or Kickboxer.
- 1:03:54They were both very notable fighting movies in the very same
- 1:03:58style where there's a tournament and just one more.
- 1:04:01Of the same kickboxer, yeah. But I think Bolo Young, he's in
- 1:04:04Kickboxer again. He's the villain again.
- 1:04:06They're actually really best buds in real life.
- 1:04:09Van Damme, and that's cute. Chong Lee, they're bud.
- 1:04:11They're like old men, best buds. They're both just talking about
- 1:04:15coming off roids. They should.
- 1:04:17Have done like the rocky thing with Drago where their son fight
- 1:04:21each other. Yeah they still can.
- 1:04:22That would be cool. But yeah.
- 1:04:23I'd watch Double Impacts, the one where he has a twin brother
- 1:04:26that he doesn't know about. They got split at birth.
- 1:04:28Van Damme. Also Van Damme's done a bunch of
- 1:04:30twin movies. He's done like 5 of them.
- 1:04:33I'm not kidding. There's double impact, there's
- 1:04:37kick, there's the replicant. He got typecast.
- 1:04:40As a twin of himself, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:04:42Why? It just was a thing.
- 1:04:44It was probably. A trend in the 80s.
- 1:04:46It was. There was.
- 1:04:47Always a twin. Like twins literally came out
- 1:04:49but it was different. It wasn't 2 Arnolds but.
- 1:04:53Van Damme. Was known for the twin movies I
- 1:04:55don't know why and Universal Soldier he made like I don't
- 1:04:59know, eight of them with Dry with Drago the first one and
- 1:05:03like the 4th one were really good.
- 1:05:06Ridiculous. Yeah, it's gotta.
- 1:05:07Cool, cool. You know what the concept is,
- 1:05:09Universal soldier, they take ex military vets that have trauma
- 1:05:14and PTSD and they erase their memory and they they make them
- 1:05:17into killing machines and then their memories that sounds.
- 1:05:20Like an Arnold movie and then their memories.
- 1:05:22Like they they, they have, they're repressed, they come
- 1:05:25back. That sounds similar.
- 1:05:26To that Arnold. To that Arnold movie where he's
- 1:05:29married to the girl from Casino. Married to the girl.
- 1:05:31From and he wakes. Up and he's total recall.
- 1:05:34Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:36But it's not the future. Oh no, it isn't the future.
- 1:05:39But it's not like Mars. It's not like they're OK, but it
- 1:05:42sounds kind. Of similar to that total recall
- 1:05:43gives. Alien vibes because it's another
- 1:05:45planet. There's actual aliens.
- 1:05:46This is just like human Cyborg. Well, either way.
- 1:05:49Kiss Mary Killer, would you rather?
- 1:05:51So would you rather have Jackson punch you in the face as hard as
- 1:05:55he can or get squeezed by the sumo guy?
- 1:06:01I would want to get punched in the face you could die from.
- 1:06:03Either one, Yeah, I don't. Feel like I don't.
- 1:06:06I don't wanna know what it feels like to have your spine broken,
- 1:06:09but you'd rather be punched. In the face to the point where
- 1:06:11it could kill you. Yeah, because if.
- 1:06:13You if if Jackson punched me in the face, I would just get
- 1:06:16knocked out, right? I would.
- 1:06:17I would. You could die.
- 1:06:18Yeah. I give you some congestion.
- 1:06:20You could. Die.
- 1:06:20I'd rather. That than just, you know, Yeah,
- 1:06:22fair enough. It might.
- 1:06:23Be it might be less painful to be punched in the face by
- 1:06:25Jackson, actually, in the long run anyways.
- 1:06:29That's all you got. OK.
- 1:06:32OK, I got one. Let me shoot 1 back at you.
- 1:06:34OK, OK. Would you rather take a
- 1:06:38Roundhouse kick from Van Damme in his tight ass underwear OK or
- 1:06:46would you rather be the bottom brick?
- 1:06:51What a fucking. Stupid question.
- 1:06:53Well, which one? They're both should be the
- 1:06:56bottom break. The bottom brick explodes.
- 1:06:58OK, Do I want to explode or get kicked?
- 1:07:00Do you wanna get kicked? OK, Obviously.
- 1:07:04OK, Do you want to be? The second last break.
- 1:07:07Grand chill. What's your problem, little
- 1:07:10fight? No, you asked me if.
- 1:07:12Ridiculous question like 2 episodes ago.
- 1:07:15I'm like, of course I wouldn't do that.
- 1:07:18No, I'm allowed to. It's my segment I can ask.
- 1:07:22You a question, Dick. Is this a lazy?
- 1:07:25Sunday movie, of course it. Is the fight scenes, the music
- 1:07:28and the background while you're like just chilling the training
- 1:07:31montages. Fuck yeah 80s It's the the
- 1:07:35soundtrack on its own is fucking Sunday vibes.
- 1:07:38What do you? Prefer to watch good movies on a
- 1:07:41lazy Sunday? Fucking movie.
- 1:07:44This is a great great fighting movie.
- 1:07:47People attached to it cause your.
- 1:07:49Childhood, they're also movies that I was obsessed with this
- 1:07:51child and I look back on now, I'm like, wow, those POS listen.
- 1:07:55This is aged much better than Dirty Dancing.
- 1:07:57Wow. You're gonna come for the iconic
- 1:08:00dirty dance if you're gonna come.
- 1:08:02After Bloodsport 80s schlock, I'm gonna come after your 80s
- 1:08:06schlock, OK? I'm telling you, it has aged way
- 1:08:10better. You don't have a 25 year old
- 1:08:12trying to bang a you know, if it's the IT was the reporter
- 1:08:16underage and this No, she wasn't.
- 1:08:19She was a grown ass woman. That's true.
- 1:08:21There was. No pedophilia in this?
- 1:08:23For once, yeah. There's a certain circle of
- 1:08:26pedophiles in the martial arts group.
- 1:08:28They're like, no, no, no. They're like, no, we like.
- 1:08:30Our women fully grown. What do you have for movie
- 1:08:33Alias? I got.
- 1:08:34Honestly blood support is perfect it's just sums it up.
- 1:08:38But I I had a couple here just for fun.
- 1:08:41Kumite, I had that. Too committee would be.
- 1:08:44Cool. Fight to survive.
- 1:08:46OK, It's in the song. And then, just for fun, the
- 1:08:49muscles from Brussels. Even though he plays an American
- 1:08:52military guy. Yeah.
- 1:08:54Him and Arnold play Americans, then they.
- 1:08:57Have these. Accents.
- 1:09:01I'm American. It's from all the.
- 1:09:03Concussions. It's not.
- 1:09:04It's an accent at all. Bend them his his from all the
- 1:09:10cocaine. The guy fucking add.
- 1:09:12Oh yeah, he played Guile, who was an American Air Force pilot
- 1:09:15from Street Fighter with a with his accent.
- 1:09:18It's so bad. That was Pete cocaine and peak
- 1:09:21like terrible, terrible movie decisions.
- 1:09:24So best performance. Wait, wait.
- 1:09:27Aliases. Sorry.
- 1:09:29So I had kumite. Yeah, I had Dukes and I had
- 1:09:33death blow. Yeah, you fucking called this
- 1:09:37movie Death Blow like 3 * I. Guess forgetting the name of it.
- 1:09:42I said death blows the movie The fake movie that Kramer and Jerry
- 1:09:46go in bootleg in Seinfeld I. Literally thought the story was
- 1:09:51called Deathblow. That's such a better name.
- 1:09:53Death blow. It works though it works.
- 1:09:56It would be. So good.
- 1:09:58Sequel, death blow, a bloodsport story or something.
- 1:10:02It could be like the next. One, yeah.
- 1:10:07Oh my God, you're such a Jackass.
- 1:10:11Best performance, I just said. John Claude Van Damme Because
- 1:10:14none of the performances in this movie are good.
- 1:10:18It's pretty, but he's a good fighter.
- 1:10:20He's in really good shape, so I'll give it to him for
- 1:10:22embracing the role and preparing well for it.
- 1:10:24Yeah, he obviously didn't just walk in with his Dick out and
- 1:10:26try to, like, do this movie. He did it properly.
- 1:10:29I I. Give this to Lynn as much as
- 1:10:33good as Van Dame is in the room. I mean his his movie, but Lynn
- 1:10:37Victor Lynn is amazing. He's hilarious, has lines are
- 1:10:39good. He delivers each one perfectly.
- 1:10:42You know, what's the difference if Bruce Springsteen is his
- 1:10:45Shidoshi, Like, that's such a funny line.
- 1:10:47Like, who wrote that? And if he didn't write, like, if
- 1:10:51it was the writer who wrote it, the guy's delivery is amazing.
- 1:10:54Somebody. Pumping out a bunch of trash
- 1:10:57movies over and over again wrote this.
- 1:10:59So yeah. It's just some of the things I'm
- 1:11:01just like, yeah, who wrote this? Do you have any shower thoughts,
- 1:11:03Mom? Yeah.
- 1:11:05There's a scene where John Claude Van Damme is is fighting.
- 1:11:09It's one of the first fight scenes he does where he elbows a
- 1:11:13guy in the face, and that's real.
- 1:11:15He accidentally elbowed somebody in the face really hard and
- 1:11:18knocked them out, and it made it into the movie.
- 1:11:20Yeah. Yo, I looked it up.
- 1:11:23They didn't have any stunt guys for this.
- 1:11:25It was all martial artists. And some of the hits are real,
- 1:11:28like when he hits the I'm not surprised.
- 1:11:30Because it's it's really good fight scenes when he hits the.
- 1:11:34The sumo wrestler guy in the stomach, remember in slomo?
- 1:11:37Yeah, the guy's stomach. Like, you know what he did to
- 1:11:40that brick That guy's stomach is in.
- 1:11:42His intestines are all just coming out of his asshole now.
- 1:11:45He hits him so hard. I'm no sumo wrestlers.
- 1:11:48Trained to take blows to the stomach.
- 1:11:49That's true. He.
- 1:11:50Doesn't fall like he recovers and then Van Damme gets him in
- 1:11:53the balls after he does splits. But I'm just saying like there
- 1:11:57was some real hits that must have happened.
- 1:11:59Yeah, I'm not. Surprised.
- 1:12:00Frank Dukes was a fight coordinator for the film, and
- 1:12:04when John Claude Van Damme was cast, Dukes announced that Van
- 1:12:07Damme was not in nearly good enough shape to play him and put
- 1:12:12him through a three month training program.
- 1:12:14And Van Dam, a world championship martial artist in
- 1:12:18his own right, called it the hardest training he's ever
- 1:12:20endured. The guy looks.
- 1:12:22Phenomenal in this movie. So maybe he did it to maybe he
- 1:12:25just trolled him cause I saw Dukes was like he's.
- 1:12:28Not ripped enough. He needs to be afraid.
- 1:12:29Dukes wasn't. Even that ripped, he was just
- 1:12:31probably just trying to get the guy motivated because he's like,
- 1:12:34well, Frank Dukes doesn't. Have to be that RIP.
- 1:12:35But like they wanted the movie to look a certain way so it
- 1:12:38worked. The guy.
- 1:12:39Looks like a fucking warrior. Yeah, he does.
- 1:12:42He looks. Like a gladiator, they wanted
- 1:12:44to. Make a video game about him
- 1:12:46after and they stole the characters model and the colic
- 1:12:49mortal kinda I kinda love. That they stole it.
- 1:12:51It's crazy, yeah. Yeah, the guy who plays Hussain
- 1:12:55when the coin scene, he's clearly played by a South Asian
- 1:12:58guy. Like he's obviously portraying
- 1:13:00somebody from the Middle East. I just think it's funny that you
- 1:13:03couldn't find, like, an Arab guy to play it.
- 1:13:05Yeah, it's like, it's really bizarre.
- 1:13:08And I watched that when I was younger.
- 1:13:10I'm like, why is he Asian? Why is he dressed like a Saudi
- 1:13:13guy? Yeah, there's a lot of.
- 1:13:14Like, racial stereotypes and like, yeah, very thinly veiled
- 1:13:19caricatures of certain races. It's like we couldn't.
- 1:13:22Find a guy. We didn't have time, so here put
- 1:13:25this wig on or this thing on from like a Saudi would wear and
- 1:13:29try to do a Arab accent. OK, no problem.
- 1:13:32Yeah. So Jean-Claude Van Full contact
- 1:13:44kickboxing, 18 wins, all by knockout, One loss.
- 1:13:48Like this guy could fight. He's basically This movie should
- 1:13:52be about him, not Frank Dude. Yeah, like this guy was.
- 1:13:55He's more impressive. He's 44, wins his classes.
- 1:13:58Yeah, there's. Actually, records of his.
- 1:13:59It's not all freaking lies. Yeah, and.
- 1:14:02Question though, how dirty was the water that the 2 military
- 1:14:06guys that are chasing Dukes and they fell in?
- 1:14:09Because that is some black water.
- 1:14:10Yeah, looks pretty. Polluted.
- 1:14:12Yeah, Like Forest Whitaker. Like.
- 1:14:14Are you OK man? It was also like a.
- 1:14:16Dog though, do you have mesothelioma?
- 1:14:18Water A docs. Always looks kind of ground
- 1:14:20because it's polluted by all the boats sitting in it.
- 1:14:22Yeah, maybe. It's pretty absurd that Chung Li
- 1:14:26manages to temporarily blind Frank, but one scene later his
- 1:14:29sight is back and he's totally fine.
- 1:14:31Like what did he throw it in that caused?
- 1:14:32I think it was. Maybe chalk, like a chalk pill.
- 1:14:36Yeah, he was like. He was a blind, yeah.
- 1:14:40Talk alone wouldn't. Do that I think they.
- 1:14:43The thing that was weird was because his the room was
- 1:14:45spinning. Maybe because he took so many
- 1:14:47blows to the head. So on top of that now his
- 1:14:49visions compromised. Maybe it was cocaine.
- 1:14:51What? What a fucking.
- 1:14:52Line of bad luck. What is cocaine?
- 1:14:55He just gets all he does scream. He just makes him stronger.
- 1:14:59Yeah, he does scream, but what are the what are the odds?
- 1:15:03Right? What are what a string of bad
- 1:15:04luck? You, you, you blind, The guy
- 1:15:06who's been training to fight blind since with the Shidoshi,
- 1:15:11right, He's been training to fight blind and he just fucking
- 1:15:14he adjusts and he almost punches the ref, but also he realized.
- 1:15:19What is the? Point of the ref.
- 1:15:21Yeah, the ref almost. Gets owned like several times.
- 1:15:24What's the? Point of it it's full contact
- 1:15:26you through powder in the guys that nobody saw that yeah that
- 1:15:29was. Nobody saw that shit so.
- 1:15:32That was some cheap shit, but I like Van Damme's acting because
- 1:15:35he's like the scream is so genuine, like it looks so good.
- 1:15:50You know, he's somebody who's training his whole life for
- 1:15:52this, and you can't beat me, so you're going to fucking cheat
- 1:15:55like that scream I felt. That's great.
- 1:15:57Yeah, that was pretty. Weak so apparently.
- 1:15:59Jean-Claude Van Damme was doing splits on set and working out
- 1:16:02between shoots. He's constantly impressing
- 1:16:04people with the splits. It was like, I'm like, I'm kind
- 1:16:08of happy that that's the thing that happened.
- 1:16:11Maybe it makes me feel happy inside.
- 1:16:14It's like, yeah, I wanna see something.
- 1:16:15Crazy just goes your full ballerina split, yeah?
- 1:16:19The Dimmock is something that's shown on video done by Frank
- 1:16:23Dukes, but it's not like in the movie.
- 1:16:26Obviously in the movie they've really embellished it.
- 1:16:28There's like 6 bricks in in the video.
- 1:16:32Basically what he did was he put a board like a wooden board, and
- 1:16:37then he put a tile on top and then another wooden board and
- 1:16:41then another tile on top. And it creates like this, it's
- 1:16:45physics. It creates a bridge.
- 1:16:47So he hits it, the top one, but the bottom board breaks only
- 1:16:52because the way the pressure is all on the bottom board.
- 1:16:56So it's just like a weird, it's not a magic trick.
- 1:16:58It's yeah, it's not really a magic trick.
- 1:17:00It's just if you look at it, it's like, oh, that's
- 1:17:03impressive. I mean, you'll impress like
- 1:17:05maybe some 15 year olds, but anybody that ever took physics
- 1:17:10or built a popsicle stick bridge knows that all the pressure
- 1:17:13would be on the bottom board and you just break.
- 1:17:18So I don't know man, like maybe this guy was just a cold blooded
- 1:17:21liar. Like, it's crazy.
- 1:17:24It's kind of crazy that you could lie about that.
- 1:17:26Before the age of Internet, you could just say anything and
- 1:17:28people just like, oh, OK, that's probably true.
- 1:17:30Did you have to make a? Bridge in physics class, yeah.
- 1:17:34And I in school, in elementary and in high school, we had to
- 1:17:37make. A roller coaster for a marble in
- 1:17:40grade 12 physics. Oh really?
- 1:17:42That. Sounds it was hard.
- 1:17:43Yeah, it sounds. Fun.
- 1:17:44Then it was a group project. It was hard.
- 1:17:46It was hard as shit. OHP, but we passed.
- 1:17:49Yeah, I can't. We managed.
- 1:17:51I can't remember what. I honestly we had a project in
- 1:17:53physics. I don't remember what it was
- 1:17:55anyway, I don't know. I was talking about physics.
- 1:17:57Does this movie hit different? As a parent you obviously don't
- 1:18:00recall ever watching it before. We had kids so also.
- 1:18:04Yeah, not necessarily hitting different as parent.
- 1:18:07Obviously, none of the fight scenes really resonated.
- 1:18:09But this scene where Tanaka talks about losing his first
- 1:18:12family to Hiroshima? Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:18:15So he's just gone through so much loss, and then Van Damme
- 1:18:17just wants to honor him by learning his his fighting.
- 1:18:20Yeah. And just being that person that
- 1:18:23his son could have, like, should have been for him.
- 1:18:26So I thought that scene was like, really sad and emotional.
- 1:18:29But other than that, I didn't really find anything in the
- 1:18:31movie that would really affect a parent.
- 1:18:33Yeah. I think the I think you're
- 1:18:35right, there's the scenes with that, that scene, that honestly,
- 1:18:38that scene is probably one of the best acted.
- 1:18:41I agree. Yeah.
- 1:18:43The guy who plays Tanaka is actually pretty good.
- 1:18:45When his voice cracks, I was like, yo, this guy's like, he's,
- 1:18:50he's coming in, he's going in. And then even for Van Damme,
- 1:18:54it's pretty decent acting considering the, you know, the
- 1:18:58music and everything takes a big part of it.
- 1:19:00But the scenes where the kids getting bullied at school and
- 1:19:03stuff like that, that part you could, you could see your kids.
- 1:19:07It's like, OK, because I do want to put our, our, our kids in
- 1:19:10martial arts at some point. It's going to be good for them.
- 1:19:13It's good for self-confidence, even just self defence.
- 1:19:16Like if something ever happened, it's a skill you carry with
- 1:19:19yourself the rest of your life. And especially for our daughter,
- 1:19:22I'd. Like her to know how to defend
- 1:19:23herself so. I mean, it would be pretty cool,
- 1:19:26but you know, we'll we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
- 1:19:29Honestly, it I watched it when I was a kid.
- 1:19:32I watched it as an adult and I watch it as a parent.
- 1:19:35Does it hit differently as a parent?
- 1:19:37No, it does not. But I want to show this to our
- 1:19:41son when he gets older because it's a kick ass fighting movie.
- 1:19:45Obviously I don't want to show him now because he'll just start
- 1:19:47doing kicks and hitting people at daycare and we don't want
- 1:19:50that. But yeah, one of the best.
- 1:19:53Parts about having kids is sharing things that you loved
- 1:19:55growing up, and we've been able to do it a little bit, but our
- 1:19:58kids are seven months and three years old, so we're not.
- 1:20:01We haven't gotten to that really fun part of parenting where you
- 1:20:04get to watch your movies with them and shows and read them.
- 1:20:07Like I have a couple of book series that I have to read with
- 1:20:10the kids, and I'm just really looking forward to that.
- 1:20:13So that's always exciting as a parent.
- 1:20:15But yeah, like this isn't really a very emotional movie.
- 1:20:18Hey, what? Do you think happened to the
- 1:20:20Sun? Like how do you think he died?
- 1:20:22They don't really say in the movie, I thought.
- 1:20:24I was waiting for them be like Chong Lee, going up to him,
- 1:20:27being like I killed your friend. What are you gonna do about it?
- 1:20:29That happened in Mortal. Kombat, right?
- 1:20:31Liu Kang's brother gets killed by Shang soon and then he goes
- 1:20:35goes and fights in the Mortal Kombat turns.
- 1:20:37Well, that's what I thought. Was gonna happen in the movie
- 1:20:38and then it just never happened. So they they should, they could
- 1:20:40have made that an element of it. Yeah, they.
- 1:20:44Chose not. To alright.
- 1:20:46Mom, how many OK USA's do you give this movie out of 10?
- 1:20:51Sorry babe, I give this four OK, USA So shit, this the storyline
- 1:20:57is there. Yeah, not even a.
- 1:20:58Five. No.
- 1:20:59The storyline. Is thin, the acting is bad, and
- 1:21:02the fact that Frank Dukes lied when I read that double points
- 1:21:08off. I probably would have given it a
- 1:21:09six if it had really been real, but it was your reaction when
- 1:21:11you. Read it.
- 1:21:12What was it like? What?
- 1:21:13Yeah, it was like. Ohhhhh cause at the end of the
- 1:21:15movie I I found it, it was really I was like oh that's
- 1:21:18crazy. This is a real story.
- 1:21:19It's not it's it's, it's a freaking made-up story that a
- 1:21:22guy who made-up and lied about the Hollywood.
- 1:21:25That's crazy. 4 out of 10 bro what about you?
- 1:21:28I give it a 7 out of 10. It's A7.
- 1:21:31It is what it is. It's a fighting movie from the
- 1:21:3480s that kicks ass and it's 2026.
- 1:21:37It still kicks ass because the hits look real, the damage looks
- 1:21:42real, the fighting is beautiful, the soundtrack is better than a
- 1:21:47lot of the shit you see today. I've seen modern day fighting
- 1:21:51movies. They're weak guy.
- 1:21:52They're low budget trash. Make a good fighting movie,
- 1:21:56Hollywood. They don't make them like this
- 1:21:58no more, because there's no. Point of making a movie like
- 1:22:01this with shitty acting in a bad storyline.
- 1:22:03They're making karate. Kid again with with Jackie Chan.
- 1:22:07How are they making Yeah, there. There's a market for it, bro.
- 1:22:10The second one was. Bad.
- 1:22:11The only good Karate Kid is the original Roddy Kid.
- 1:22:14Sweep the leg. The first one was bad, but not
- 1:22:18the original from the. Martial arts stuff.
- 1:22:20Makes money. All the Jet Li movies that
- 1:22:23Jackie Chan movies went until they got to Hollywood and it
- 1:22:27wasn't about the fighting. That's when people stop like the
- 1:22:30true martial arts. Have you ever seen the rain?
- 1:22:32We're not having a. Martial arts renaissance right
- 1:22:35now like it'll come. John Wick.
- 1:22:36Brought it back but his more like gun fu because he does it
- 1:22:41with with a with a gun like it'll it'll come.
- 1:22:43Back again. It always does raid.
- 1:22:45Oht my God. Unblock brought it back for a
- 1:22:48bit. Tony Jaa, But he kind of fell
- 1:22:51off. He made a couple of bad ones,
- 1:22:53but the raid, it's amazing. It's so good it'll catch it.
- 1:22:57It'll come back. It was back in the 90s.
- 1:22:59It'll come back again. Alright, mom, that's our
