- Jarod McInroy: We got a segment. We are calling it hot, warm, or safe. Is this coach on the hot seat? Are they on the warm seat where we're just like, hey, watch out? Or are they safe? Have they proven us they came into the season on the hot seat, perhaps? and and you know, they're looking pretty good right about now. So let's start with do you want to start good or bad? Should we start with the safes? Who's who's safe right now? Nathan Hawthorne: This is gonna be shocking. Who I'm gonna say is safe here. Matt LaFleur is safe in Green Bay. And I know that this week obviously makes it look a lot better. You beat a division opponent whom you hate. The the bet the blood is so bad. And especially between LaFleur and Ben Johnson, I love that that's gonna be a rivalry for years to come right now. But winning that game, I don't think it necessarily gets Green Bay on track, but it keeps LaFleur's job safe. And there's a couple reasons why. Number one, they've been to the playoffs the last several years, and Part of the reason for that is because of the new playoff system where you get that seventh team in for the wild card game. And they've benefited from that because that's the only reason that they've been in the NFL playoffs. But two things we know about Green Bay is one, they're patient and two, they're conservative. If you fire Matt LaFleur, despite how many games he's managed to lose with all the advantages in the world and having a number of leads, right? We talk about he loses more games than anybody when he should be winning them. What other coaches can you go and get right now that are gonna be better than Matt LaFleur? And you start going through the list of w maybe the coaches that are gonna be available. Is there anybody who's on the sideline right now? Like, do you c make a call for Mike Tomlin? Like, I just don't think that there's anybody available right now that's gonna be better than Matt LaFleur. I don't think that the situation is going to be any better next year with a new head coach because they didn't address anything in the offseason that they needed. But they've lost in the divisional round and lost in the wild card the last two years. previously to that, you know, with Aaron Rodgers, they lost in the NFC championship twice and then lost in the divisional round. So only one year had they have they missed the playoffs. So I think that they're gonna be patient with Matt LaFleur. I think they're gonna be patient because Jordan Love's ceiling is so high, even though he rarely reaches that ceiling. but I I think he's safe. I wanted him to be on the hot seat. I did, but I think he's safe. Jarod McInroy: No, they're turn he's turning a lost season into what looked like a lost season into year three and two and you have some winnable game now, again, it's the quarterbacks they played against. But no, he honestly like you said, if there's nothing better out there, what's the point? Let's address the needs and that are more important than just head coach. my safe, I got Kellen Moore. I think I I don't necessarily think he was on the hot seat, but when you're a young head coach, you have a short leash, there's you know People are getting h hired to fired left and right. So to come out Nathan Hawthorne: Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: here, look competitive, have the offense look like it's going in the right direction. Tyler Shuck looking like he was worth the pick that they had taken him at, and frankly, giving competitive games to good teams. I I I think he's fine. I think they will at least commit the next two years to him. where they'll go from there, who knows? But for now, he's safe. I don't think he has to even worry about being on the warm seat, at least for the next Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Jarod McInroy: couple of years. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, one of the most interesting things is deciding between all the quarterbacks and knowing that there wasn't a great quarterback draft that they've not necessarily invested in Tyler Shuck, but they've put weapons around Tyler Shuck, and we talked about in our division breakdown for the Saints. They've got some talent to be an interesting team, but what is the incentive to win games this year? Tyler Shuck, he might develop. Maybe he's just gonna be a mid lane quarterback. It looks like that's what we're looking at for Tyler Shuck. So What's the incentive to win games this year? I think that with this year's quarterback draft class that's coming up in twenty twenty seven, you can get your guy Kellen Moore's leash or his, you know, time clock essentially resets to work with this new young quarterback. You're gonna continue to add more weapons and set up you know, a better offense, maybe get a better defense going. But I just think that even if this year goes poorly, they're gonna go out and get a quarterback, they're gonna move on from Shuck, and I think that things are gonna reset for Kellen Moore. Jarod McInroy: I don't think they're gonna go quarterback. And I think the best time to not be quarterback needy is in a quarterback heavy draft where there's a lot of other people who need quarterbacks because now you can go get your best at a different position that might not have been available otherwise. So agreed to disagree there. jumping over to the warm seat. Aaron Glenn, you have dropped down. You were on the hot seat. It was getting real hot. We threw a little ice on the bottom of that thing. You're winning games. You're looking good. Now again, you're proving that now that you've got a little more talent, we couldn't name we couldn't name more than five people on the Jets last year. we got dudes all around the field flying around. They're they're playing like they want to win. They're playing like they're playing for Aaron Glenn. he you know he did get embarrassed a couple weeks ago by Matt LaFleur in a in a bad coaching decision. and Nathan Hawthorne: Dicks. Jarod McInroy: we thought he was gonna stay hot, but no, I mean overall Is he gonna get fired this year? He could potentially, but he's at least looked competitive. Gino has looked good. This defense has looked better, not great. It's he's on the warm seat. It can get hot really fast, but he's on the warm seat now. He's dropped it down. Who do you got on your Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Jarod McInroy: warm? Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, I just want to say with Aaron Glenn, it's it's warm. Jarod McInroy: yeah. Please. Nathan Hawthorne: It's but it's on the hotter side of warm. You know? It's when you it's when you just got done with a workout and you wanna take a shower, but if the shower's too hot then it's uncomfortable because you're already hot from the workout. So you just have it a little bit so like that's what we're talking about. The heat's turned down a little bit, like you said. I don't think there's any ice. I think that we're one game away here, two division games away. Jarod McInroy: Seven out of ten hot. Nathan Hawthorne: We got two division games on the way here with the Patriots with the Patriots and the Dolphins coming up. It's it's could be scary. for me who's on my warm seat, and none other than Shane Steichen. Shane Steichen, I think your seat is warm. I think that thankfully Carly Ursay Gordon is now the owner, and it's not Jim Ursay who would have fired you eight years ago, even you've even though you've only been there four years. But you've gone nine and eight, eight and nine, eight and nine, and this season's not going any better. You've had a revolving door of quarterbacks. You didn't commit to Anthony Richardson. Can't blame you for that. Maybe he wasn't going to be the guy. zero development for Riley Leonard. You've got Daniel Jones, and you thought that was going to be the solve. Wheels fall off last year, obviously, because of the injury. And this year, it's just not going any better. you've invested in continuing to make that offensive line strong. I love that. The defense has gotten weaker over the past couple of years, and I don't like the overall trend of this team. I don't think that Shane Steichen is willing to do a full re rebuild. That's not what he and Ballard want to do. They don't want to reset everything because that'll be their jobs. But at a certain point, you gotta look at this team top to bottom and figure out what went wrong. And I think it's not Shane Steichen being a terrible coach, but I think between him and Chris Ballard, they've mismanaged the roster and they've mismanaged the direction of the team with finding a quarterback that can match the timeline of what they're trying to do. Last year, I think, was a lot of I don't know if smoke and mirrors is the right word. I don't think that they were going to be a serious playoff contender last year. I know they looked great to start the year, but things started to look a little shaky before Daniel Jones even got injured. So Shane Steichen, I think your seat is warm. certainly warmer than I'm sorry, certainly cooler than Aaron Glenn's. But again, maybe it's time to go be an offensive coordinator somewhere for a year and then go find a better job. no, who knew who Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: knows? Maybe the Eagles come calling. Jarod McInroy: Okay. Okay. Nathan Hawthorne: That's a little preview for the hot seat of Nick Siriani. He's been on the hot seat he's I'm just Jarod McInroy: Just get into it. Nathan Hawthorne: saying he's been on the hot se hot seat since he got there. And part of the reason is You guys have all seen the clip now. There's not a lot of room to be a walk around head coach in the NFL right now. You have to be able to own your side of the ball, build the culture, and be situationally aware, or at least have somebody on your staff who is situationally aware. His best years were when he had Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon in that second year, you know, once they moved on and they officially slotted in Jalen Hurts into that role. you lost in the Super Bowl. That was great. And then you had Sean Desai and Brian Johnson as your DC and your OC. And you lost in the wild card. You hardly won, you won 11 games, but every game you won looked horrible. And then you absolutely fell apart towards the end of the season. And then you've got Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio. Everything's great again. You win a Super Bowl. And then now you've got Kevin Petulo and Vic Fangio. And Kevin Petulo on the offensive side, things are or Kevin Petulo and Vic Fangio. Looked horrible. And things have continued to look horrible, and we decided that we wanted to run things back. And Kevin Petulo came from where? The Jaguars with Doug Peterson. What did you see that their their offense was doing? Absolutely nothing. And so I find it strange his inability to consistently hire good coordinators around him. And it's hard because you have to replace these coordinators every single year. But if I'm the Eagles and I'm looking at this team and I'm looking at the timeline of Jalen Hurts, who it Can't see the field right now. something's not working with Sean Mannion. I like he just has to go. You can't continue to be this culture guy, mismanage big game situations, embarrass the team, and not have any sort of true direction going forward. So you're on the hot seat. You can't win unless Jarod McInroy: All right. Nathan Hawthorne: you ha you can't win unless you have elite coordinators around you. And that's a thing, right? You want elite coordinators around you. That's what you're you're paying guys for. But if you can't consistently do it and find it and every time there's not an adult in the building for one of these head coach quality coordinators, things fall apart. That tells me that it's not you. It's the other coaches coming in. Jarod McInroy: All right. There it is. Nathan Hawthorne: Kellen Moore could have been your head coach. Jarod McInroy: No no notes. Nathan Hawthorne: Shane Steichen. Imagine again. So that's why I'm saying Shane Steichen. Go get the Eagles job. You know how great that would be? Jarod McInroy: Okay. Nathan Hawthorne: You re you reunite with Jalen Hurts? Maybe get his brain back on track. If not, kick him out the door, reset things in Philly. You know how he's gonna set you up with a good team. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. My hot seat, it's the obvious one, it's Dan Quinn. for I'm not nearly the same reasons as Nick Siriani, other than you own one side of the football and you're not doing a good job of it. You honestly haven't done a very good job of it at all. so I feel like that's almost worse than not owning a side of the football. If you if you pick Nathan Hawthorne: Agreed. Jarod McInroy: a side and you don't do it, that's pretty bad. The other side I think this was this was the fireball week. You just rush back the franchise cornerstone, your quarterback, which we have found that it is impossible to find a franchise quarterback. He is already injury, riddled, he's had troubles last year, this year, he just had a major injury and you've rushed him back two weeks for a one and three season. Great. You think you can turn this thing around. One and three and then you go tie a game because you mismanage the game, you're gone at that point. Like I frankly I That's a just you did it. You rushed him back. You pulled him back. You said, Get out there, kid. You ran him for a hundred yards. You let him fly all around the field. And then you didn't even Nathan Hawthorne: how selfish is that? Jarod McInroy: walk away with the win. That's where's okay, you get it to two and three, you f you feel good about your schedule moving forward. Sure, I get it. Whatever. Gone. I I would fire him today if I was in charge. yeah, I and honestly, i his his schemes they're outdated. He doesn't adjust well. We haven't seen him do great in in big games, coaching up his defense and frankly their offense isn't convincing me. So it it's a lost season. Get rid of him. I I can't think of a ton of teams that are also gonna be firing coaches right now, anyways. Be the first team. Be the team that does it so then everybody's looking at the the commander's job and they're they're ready to go and I know you can't talk to team, can't talk to coaches. They're all talking. They're all doing it. It's all happening behind the scenes. Go get ahead of the coaching cycle and do whatever Nathan Hawthorne: No. Jarod McInroy: you can to get a leg up. Nathan Hawthorne: Honorable mention hot seat I is Dan Campbell. cool that you know you won this cool cool that you won this week, but I th I think Jarod McInroy: No no no no no. I'm shutting it down. Nathan Hawthorne: the seat's hot. I th hear me out. Seat is warm. Seat is warm. Jarod McInroy: Three out of ten warm. Nathan Hawthorne: We've just we've just turned on the seat warmers in the car and it's starting to heat up. That's what's happening to Dan Campbell right now. That seat is starting to heat Jarod McInroy: Maybe We he's fine. Nathan Hawthorne: up. It's that point where you know you you you Jarod McInroy: He's fine. They love him. Nathan Hawthorne: turned them on, you realize it's a little hotter than you thought. So you know, now you go down a little bit. See, it's see it's warm. And I just again, brain drain of a couple years, defense looks horrible. And again, hasn't looked good in Dan Campbell's tenure at all, at no point. It was opportunistic one year with Aaron Glenn and the team stayed healthy, but outside of that, hasn't been good. Hasn't gotten the defense good. Offense is too Gibbs reliant, but you know, what do I know? Not a lot. Jarod McInroy: What do you know? Nathan Hawthorne: Not a lot.
