- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from KFI AM
- 0:04Speaker 1: six fortys.
- 0:11Speaker 2: It's our thirty third anniversary of this show, and I
- 0:15Speaker 2: want to thank our listeners. Hey, without you, guys, it's
- 0:20Speaker 2: still would have happened. You know that, Just to let
- 0:23Speaker 2: you know. The point is is that I'm a pretty
- 0:25Speaker 2: great guy. Enormously talented, never go off on tangents, know
- 0:29Speaker 2: how to pronounce words constantly, and well, the bottom line is, yeah,
- 0:35Speaker 2: I'm pretty neat.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And now handle on the news. Ladies and gentlemen. Here's
- 0:41Speaker 1: Bill Handle.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Good morning everybody. It's a foody Friday, July seventeenth. Ask
- 0:47Speaker 2: candle anything Friday. And a lot of what I just
- 0:51Speaker 2: said about being a really neat guy, I hear a lot,
- 0:55Speaker 2: particularly every morning when I look in the mirror, and
- 0:58Speaker 2: so we're on and on moving. Oh, I have a
- 1:01Speaker 2: question to ask. And it just occurred to me that
- 1:05Speaker 2: that drop that promo KF I guaranteed Human. Clearly this
- 1:13Speaker 2: guy has never listened to this show. I just don't
- 1:16Speaker 2: get it. Okay, we have a.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Sitting here in l a guaranteed humans.
- 1:27Speaker 4: On the street.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, just a quick inside baseball. Whenever you hear
- 1:34Speaker 2: these promos, uh, it's some guy somewhere in some town
- 1:40Speaker 2: in some state that just does this all the time
- 1:45Speaker 2: for every radio station out there and just sends it
- 1:48Speaker 2: up by satellite. Do you remember the guy for Do
- 1:52Speaker 2: you remember the guy from Oletel six, which I thought
- 1:54Speaker 2: was a great commercial leave a light on for you?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Remember that commercial. It was in a tiny little town
- 2:02Speaker 2: in the northern part of Alaska when he did that,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and I thought that was kind of deep. I really do.
- 2:08Speaker 2: And the other thing I want to point out is
- 2:11Speaker 2: many of the shows where they have two hosts, they
- 2:14Speaker 2: live in two different cities, and I mean across you know,
- 2:18Speaker 2: one coast to the other coast. Yeah, so we can
- 2:22Speaker 2: do that with obviously technology today, you can do it
- 2:25Speaker 2: with broadcast quality on the Internet, which is what happens
- 2:28Speaker 2: right here right now in my home studio. Neil is
- 2:31Speaker 2: in his home studio. Heather is there at Kafi. Will
- 2:35Speaker 2: of course is there at Kafi as is An. That's yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 2: if you could do the news at home, Heather, would
- 2:44Speaker 2: you do it?
- 2:47Speaker 5: No, Well, it depends.
- 2:48Speaker 6: I would do maybe this at home because I don't
- 2:51Speaker 6: like coming in at three in the morning, but I
- 2:53Speaker 6: don't think I would do as good of a job
- 2:55Speaker 6: because I need there's too many moving parts.
- 2:58Speaker 2: For the past, and you actually care and I care.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I want to do a good job.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that part I don't understand. Will would you do
- 3:06Speaker 2: it your job at home? I actually do sometimes? Okay, yeah,
- 3:10Speaker 2: some days I do.
- 3:11Speaker 1: But but again I have less screens, smaller computer at home.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You know, it's a laptop, and so there's I have
- 3:17Speaker 2: less to work with. It's a little easier here. I'm
- 3:19Speaker 2: looking at you guys on a on a phone. Actually
- 3:22Speaker 2: I'm not, but that's okay. I know. I use my
- 3:27Speaker 2: computer or I use the computer Lindsay sets it up.
- 3:31Speaker 2: So I've got a computer with the right part it's
- 3:33Speaker 2: a split screen and right hand as you guys, and
- 3:37Speaker 2: on the left are the papers that I look at
- 3:40Speaker 2: because every morning it's the New York Times, the LA Times,
- 3:44Speaker 2: occasionally the Orange County Register.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Does she feeds you too other than political views? Does
- 3:49Speaker 3: she feed you like food?
- 3:51Speaker 4: Still?
- 3:51Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah? Oh yeah, absolutely yeah. And she takes the
- 3:56Speaker 2: spoon and goes airplane, open your mouth, daddy happy? Yeah? Yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 2: she dies And you would do it at home, right
- 4:06Speaker 2: if you could. I don't know. There is something about
- 4:08Speaker 2: being around other people Okay. That kind of gets your ire,
- 4:13Speaker 2: that kind of gets you miserable. Yeah, I can understand that. No,
- 4:16Speaker 2: and I don't have that long of a drive, so
- 4:18Speaker 2: it's not it's not that. But then you know, but
- 4:21Speaker 2: you have to shower in the morning, which you did
- 4:22Speaker 2: in this morning. I wouldn't wash your hair because you're
- 4:26Speaker 2: wearing your baseball hat, so clearly you didn't wash your hair.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Ball cap.
- 4:30Speaker 5: You really do. It's so cute.
- 4:32Speaker 2: San Diego Padres baseball cap and Cono? How many baseball caps?
- 4:38Speaker 2: Because I've seen Cono once, uh and once I'm serious,
- 4:43Speaker 2: in which she was not wearing a baseball cap. How
- 4:45Speaker 2: many of them do you have?
- 4:46Speaker 4: It was that one time that you didn't.
- 4:48Speaker 5: I probably have in rotation currently.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Okay, and Cono has great hair too.
- 4:57Speaker 5: On top of that, take it off.
- 4:59Speaker 3: His head is completely flat, like Frankenstein, and it's like
- 5:04Speaker 3: a bowling ball of my dad.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's good hair. It's good hair that you have.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I just like hats. Heck, okay, that's fair.
- 5:14Speaker 4: I also look cute in hats, like.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And who told you that? Okay, guys, Okay, it's Friday,
- 5:23Speaker 2: and I think we're gonna have a good time. On Friday.
- 5:26Speaker 2: It's always fun at at the end of the show.
- 5:30Speaker 2: The last hour is really great, fun foody Friday with
- 5:33Speaker 2: Neil as always. Uh, I'm going to Costco again today
- 5:38Speaker 2: even though I went yesterday, so it's a double therapy
- 5:42Speaker 2: session for me. I'm feeling a little blue Dodger blue,
- 5:47Speaker 2: and actually I don't care. All right, guys, let's do it.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It's time for Handle on the News with Heather filling
- 5:54Speaker 2: in for Amy. Today's your last day. Yes, Amy comes
- 5:59Speaker 2: back on Monday, and Neil lead story. Well, the President
- 6:06Speaker 2: did exactly what a lot of us he anticipated, and
- 6:10Speaker 2: he went off on tangents. He made claims that were ridiculous.
- 6:14Speaker 2: He made claims that he released this stunning information that
- 6:20Speaker 2: was going to prove his point, and a lot of
- 6:22Speaker 2: the documents went the other way. He actually released information
- 6:26Speaker 2: that contradicted what he was saying. And I'm going to
- 6:28Speaker 2: talk more about that at seven o'clock. And one of
- 6:30Speaker 2: the fun stories is CNN didn't cover it. ABC didn't
- 6:34Speaker 2: cover it, NBC didn't cover it, didn't cover the speech,
- 6:38Speaker 2: and those that did were just bits and pieces of
- 6:43Speaker 2: it and some analysis. Fox covered it wall to wall.
- 6:48Speaker 2: It's a shocker. Isn't it. And I'll talk more about
- 6:51Speaker 2: that at seven o'clock because I want to throw stuff
- 6:53Speaker 2: at you because it's typical. It's typical relitigating everything, these
- 7:00Speaker 2: bombshell documents that were not okay. Anyway, I'll talk more
- 7:05Speaker 2: about that at seven o'clock because that was that was
- 7:07Speaker 2: fun and ridiculous as usual.
- 7:09Speaker 6: Along those same lines. Because ABC and NBC did not
- 7:14Speaker 6: air it, President Trump says that he called it fraud.
- 7:19Speaker 6: He says those networks have committed fraud and he wants
- 7:22Speaker 6: to have their license revoked. CNN, as Bill mentioned, also
- 7:26Speaker 6: opted against the live network coverage. But you know, ABC,
- 7:30Speaker 6: NBC incentate. They all streamed it live on YouTube, but
- 7:34Speaker 6: so did the White House.
- 7:35Speaker 2: So yeah, of course, and that's by the way. The
- 7:39Speaker 2: President has a point in one sense, then I'll buy that,
- 7:42Speaker 2: and that is these licenses are free. The networks and
- 7:47Speaker 2: the television stations pay nothing for the licenses, as we
- 7:51Speaker 2: don't here at KFI, and it is free, and effectively
- 7:56Speaker 2: it is guaranteed for life because they had to be
- 8:00Speaker 2: renewed every what four years, and he said they should
- 8:03Speaker 2: pay for it. We get it absolutely free. I'm fine
- 8:06Speaker 2: with that. Just everybody pay for a license. Okay, you ever,
- 8:11Speaker 2: the people that use federal land, for example, for grazing
- 8:14Speaker 2: their cows pay for it. If there was a federal
- 8:19Speaker 2: building and you are renting a space, I do believe
- 8:23Speaker 2: you pay for it, don't know for a fact. So
- 8:26Speaker 2: I don't have a problem with that. Now, only the
- 8:30Speaker 2: stations or only networks that didn't air his speech, they've
- 8:33Speaker 2: committed fraud by not airing his speech, and they should
- 8:37Speaker 2: have their licenses revoked because they didn't air his speech.
- 8:42Speaker 2: And there's been plenty. There were some speeches that Biden
- 8:45Speaker 2: did that were not aired. We're not covered by the networks.
- 8:50Speaker 2: There were speeches that Barack Hussein Obama. You noticed that
- 8:54Speaker 2: he always used the word Hussein middle name, and there
- 8:59Speaker 2: were speeches he'd that weren't aired, but none of them
- 9:03Speaker 2: called for revoking of their broadcast licenses. More handle on
- 9:07Speaker 2: the news Brooker, Heather, I got it. Oh that's true.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I just wanted to, you know, use last names first,
- 9:17Speaker 2: and uh savedra Comma Neil comma, Neil. Oh, sorry about that. Yeah,
- 9:27Speaker 2: I didn't turn that off your medication. I know I
- 9:30Speaker 2: already took my medication. Okay, fair enough, all right, pretty good, yeah, good, Okay, Okay,
- 9:39Speaker 2: so the.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Poops we heard about the Federal Health Authorities linking the
- 9:45Speaker 3: shredded iceberg let us, this is a bummer to Taco Bell.
- 9:50Speaker 3: So this outbreak outbreak that sickened more than sixteen hundred
- 9:55Speaker 3: people across five states is now. You said, Heather that
- 10:01Speaker 3: it was from California, but the FDA trace the lettuce
- 10:04Speaker 3: to a single supplier from Mexico.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Mexico.
- 10:07Speaker 6: Yeah, well, I will investigate what I said, because sometimes
- 10:11Speaker 6: I don't know what I'm saying.
- 10:12Speaker 2: They should have known. They should have known because the
- 10:15Speaker 2: packages say diarrhea lettuce.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Well this is well diarrhea in, diarrhea out. That's the problem.
- 10:22Speaker 3: When people are using fields to poop in is usually
- 10:27Speaker 3: the problem. This is Taylor Farms and the Federal Health
- 10:31Speaker 3: Authorities linked that shredded lettuce to Taco Bell here and
- 10:34Speaker 3: a good number of these people got it from Taco Bell.
- 10:39Speaker 3: That's how they started putting it all together. Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio,
- 10:44Speaker 3: West Virginia, excuse me, West Virginia.
- 10:47Speaker 6: The report I have says from the Washington Post that
- 10:49Speaker 6: is from Taylor Farms, which is based in Salinas, California.
- 10:54Speaker 2: But the farms they are saying from Mexico, the FDA
- 10:58Speaker 2: can trace, for example, cases of E. Coli to specific farms. Yes,
- 11:05Speaker 2: and I mean it's just it's astounding to perceive specific
- 11:09Speaker 2: areas of those farms. So saying it came from Mexico
- 11:13Speaker 2: as probably I think a legitimate analysis.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Yeah, oh my turn.
- 11:21Speaker 6: So Tehran has launched again several strikes on countries including Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait,
- 11:28Speaker 6: Oman Cutter as well as Jordan and Syria. Those countries
- 11:33Speaker 6: were forced to take defensive action against Iranian missile drones.
- 11:36Speaker 6: This is the sixth night of US strikes on Iran,
- 11:40Speaker 6: and Tehran has been doing these counter strikes on countries
- 11:44Speaker 6: where they say they're they're targeting civilian infrastructure. The US
- 11:51Speaker 6: is targeting civilian infrastructure, and now Tehran is justifying their
- 11:55Speaker 6: strikes because of the US as strikes. It's it's the
- 11:59Speaker 6: same back and forth, but it seems to be escalating.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Well. This series of strikes is in response to Iran
- 12:07Speaker 2: attacking ships in the Gulf that we're trying to transit
- 12:11Speaker 2: the Gulf in lanes other than what they prescribed. And
- 12:16Speaker 2: you notice that the ceasefire talks are kind of off
- 12:20Speaker 2: the table right now. Yeah, and I'm assuming that the
- 12:23Speaker 2: ceasefire is being defined. I think it is as we're
- 12:27Speaker 2: not in all out war, I mean boots on the ground,
- 12:33Speaker 2: full attack. I'm short of that. The ceasefire, I guess,
- 12:37Speaker 2: is still in effect. It's getting worse, I mean, there's
- 12:41Speaker 2: no question. And the President is threatening lots of infrastructure
- 12:45Speaker 2: which the United States could do. Power plants, bridges, roads,
- 12:52Speaker 2: water treatment plants, I mean all of it. Communications, telephone. Yeah.
- 13:02Speaker 2: It's going to be unfun, it really is. Here's another
- 13:05Speaker 2: one that's not going to be particularly fun that a
- 13:07Speaker 2: bumper sticker wore on fun. Yeah, all right, this is
- 13:13Speaker 2: the It gets sadder and more sad as we hear
- 13:17Speaker 2: about it. You remember we talked about on Tuesday that
- 13:20Speaker 2: San Francisco Bay boat accident where boat capsized.
- 13:24Speaker 4: There was twenty people on board and one had died.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Three were missing, while they found one of the other
- 13:32Speaker 3: bodies identified as fifty eight year old Tundra Madruga Madruga
- 13:40Speaker 3: Trump Madruga from Sacramento County. Here's the thing. Though they
- 13:46Speaker 3: had said that it was a memorial of sorts, they
- 13:49Speaker 3: were spreading ashes. Can you imagine they were going family
- 13:53Speaker 3: members and friends going to spread ashes when all this
- 13:57Speaker 3: went down.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah, ashes ashes, we all fall in the water.
- 14:03Speaker 4: No way too soon, you judge.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, I do a lot of way too soon,
- 14:09Speaker 2: don't I.
- 14:10Speaker 4: That's what Lindsay says.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Wow, very strong, very strong. That could be lined as
- 14:19Speaker 2: youre Neil could just very well be Wow.
- 14:22Speaker 6: Maybe the guy in the other part of the country
- 14:24Speaker 6: should grab that for a promo.
- 14:26Speaker 2: That's what Lindsay says. Okay, that's enough moving.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Okay, we're moving on.
- 14:33Speaker 6: Cities that block ICE could potentially lose some police services
- 14:37Speaker 6: and funding and rape kit funding Apparently the latest example
- 14:43Speaker 6: of the Trump administration's promised to withhold funding from cities
- 14:47Speaker 6: it calls sanctuary cities. They are trying to pressure cities
- 14:51Speaker 6: to sign cooperation agreements with ICE, and they're kind of
- 14:56Speaker 6: pressuring them by threatening to withhold money. There will be
- 14:59Speaker 6: no federal fund for bulletproof vests for police in Santa Cruz.
- 15:04Speaker 6: The city is saying in a lawsuit, no ambulances for
- 15:06Speaker 6: paramedics in Beaverton, Oregon, and now no money for police
- 15:10Speaker 6: departments to process rape kits in Fresno.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Now I will show you and I wouldn't be surprised
- 15:18Speaker 2: if the Trump administration really didn't think this through, because
- 15:22Speaker 2: there's a lot of really not thinking through and the
- 15:27Speaker 2: unintended consequences there. This administration, particularly President Trump, shoots from
- 15:31Speaker 2: the hip. I mean they're you know, today it's this,
- 15:35Speaker 2: and this afternoon they on this, this, that's another one, Neil,
- 15:40Speaker 2: and it's I mean, that's the way this president works now,
- 15:45Speaker 2: for his for his supporters. That's a great thing because
- 15:48Speaker 2: it keeps everybody simply on track for not knowing, and
- 15:53Speaker 2: it puts him in a great position, or puts the
- 15:55Speaker 2: United States in a great position. Of course, others are
- 15:58Speaker 2: totally against that concept. They want a more moderated presidency
- 16:02Speaker 2: where we know or have an idea where we're going
- 16:05Speaker 2: and the consequences are thought out.
- 16:07Speaker 4: All right, all right.
- 16:08Speaker 3: The only thing worse than having your house, apartment, or this,
- 16:13Speaker 3: your store, whatever flooded there in West Hollywood is having
- 16:19Speaker 3: your insurance turnround and say we don't cover that. So apparently,
- 16:23Speaker 3: if a pipe bursts in your house, they'll cover it.
- 16:27Speaker 3: But if a pipe burst somewhere else and floods your house,
- 16:31Speaker 3: then you need specific flood insurance.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Is what it comes down.
- 16:34Speaker 2: To So you're right. The only thing worse than not
- 16:37Speaker 2: having the appropriate insurance, well, maybe the Holocaust is worse. Okay,
- 16:46Speaker 2: moving on, and you're right as far as insurance. Flood
- 16:50Speaker 2: floods that came to that comes down water from the
- 16:53Speaker 2: sky not covered in insurance. You have to high you
- 16:57Speaker 2: have to have specific flood insurance, right, and you get
- 17:00Speaker 2: that from the government. You get that from the federal government.
- 17:03Speaker 2: And no one has it here. I don't have flood insurance.
- 17:07Speaker 4: Do they sue the city at this point?
- 17:09Speaker 2: Oh?
- 17:10Speaker 4: Yeah, who's sure the pipe owner? Right?
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 17:13Speaker 4: I know the city didn't even know who owned the pipe.
- 17:15Speaker 2: You know, the city, the city because it's a main, main,
- 17:18Speaker 2: main pipe. It's one of the big ones.
- 17:20Speaker 4: We're one hundred years old.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Happened, Yeah, but the city is still supposed to maintain them.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Well, but they why don't they just change them out.
- 17:26Speaker 6: One thing that happened that was interesting today is the
- 17:29Speaker 6: city controller. La City Controller Kenneth Mihea posted that the
- 17:34Speaker 6: city is far behind where they should be in updating
- 17:38Speaker 6: these pipes, especially compared to other Yeah, especially compared to
- 17:42Speaker 6: other cities. And it's something he's been saying that should
- 17:46Speaker 6: be a priority because what's happening is these types of
- 17:49Speaker 6: ruptures are costing the city more than if they were
- 17:52Speaker 6: actually being proactive and taking care of them before.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Who gets elected on the campaign promise of maintenance.
- 18:02Speaker 6: Well, I think in la you know, you've got a
- 18:05Speaker 6: pretty good shot because that is one of the major
- 18:07Speaker 6: complaints people have. Like Neil just said, sidewalks, infrastructure, potholes,
- 18:12Speaker 6: major street problem.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Look at mom, Donnie.
- 18:14Speaker 6: A lot of people in New York elected him and
- 18:16Speaker 6: he started immediately like creating a pothole.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Wait till you see the taxes, the city taxes. Oh, sure,
- 18:22Speaker 2: all you have to pay for it. There's no secret here. Yeah.
- 18:25Speaker 2: And the water that was coming out of that main,
- 18:28Speaker 2: if you were watching the news or a video of it,
- 18:32Speaker 2: was so much you wonder, this is a place where
- 18:35Speaker 2: you don't want to lose that much water in a
- 18:38Speaker 2: place that is drought ridden. That was a tough one
- 18:42Speaker 2: to watch.
- 18:43Speaker 4: And these pipes we have.
- 18:44Speaker 3: My house is over one hundred years old and we
- 18:47Speaker 3: had to replace the pipe from the house that goes
- 18:50Speaker 3: to the street.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's that's on you. That's on you. But
- 18:55Speaker 2: that main But it was all clay. They understand that.
- 19:00Speaker 2: But that main is the city's responsibility for maintaining it.
- 19:03Speaker 2: That goes down the middle of the street, and it
- 19:06Speaker 2: is I mean it's three feet in diameter or twenty
- 19:09Speaker 2: four inches in diameter. I mean a lot of water
- 19:11Speaker 2: goes through there, and so it's the cost is astronomical.
- 19:16Speaker 2: They have to basically shut down the street. Okay, moving on, Heather.
- 19:20Speaker 5: I do think that is such an interesting topic.
- 19:22Speaker 6: Okay, major wildfires are happening in Canada. More than eight
- 19:27Speaker 6: hundred wildfires are burning right now, and obviously because of that,
- 19:32Speaker 6: then it's affecting the air quality. And now it is
- 19:35Speaker 6: affecting the air quality in multiple US states. A blanket
- 19:39Speaker 6: of smoke cloud is being felt and smelled from Detroit
- 19:43Speaker 6: and Toronto and New York across New England, and it's
- 19:46Speaker 6: causing hazardous air qualities.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's crazy. It is just crazy. You can't see.
- 19:52Speaker 2: It's like a fog, like a dense, dense fog, and
- 19:55Speaker 2: it's smoke or that's dangerous. Oh, eight hundred wildfires is
- 19:59Speaker 2: equivalent in the United States the seven hundred and twenty wildfires.
- 20:03Speaker 2: You're aware of that due to.
- 20:06Speaker 5: The wildfire exchange rate.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Yeah, Texas flash floods coming from the sky as we've
- 20:13Speaker 3: got them coming from the grounds here in Los Angeles.
- 20:15Speaker 3: You've got these massive flash floods in Texas, killed two
- 20:19Speaker 3: people so far, forced hundreds of rescues in areas still
- 20:24Speaker 3: reeling from all the devastation a year ago. If you remember,
- 20:28Speaker 3: you've got rescuers above, you know, board boats and helicopters
- 20:33Speaker 3: saving more than two hundred people, stranded drivers, people trapped
- 20:37Speaker 3: in homes and what have you. But this is in
- 20:42Speaker 3: the same area, isn't it.
- 20:44Speaker 4: That had.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Yeah, can't Mystic exactly Mystic, So you know this obviously
- 20:52Speaker 3: is a very flood prone area and having issues, still
- 20:57Speaker 3: recovering from that. And now another of waves bounding rain
- 21:03Speaker 3: that doesn't look like it's going to be stopping anytime soon.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Yeah. A couple of points, that Guadalupe River right near
- 21:11Speaker 2: where Camp Mystic was rose by more than thirty feet
- 21:15Speaker 2: in an hour.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Wow.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And it's far worse than what happened at Camp Mystic,
- 21:21Speaker 2: where twenty seven kids and counselors drowned. This time, they
- 21:25Speaker 2: were prepared for it and were able to move people away,
- 21:29Speaker 2: and two people unfortunately died, And we don't know did
- 21:33Speaker 2: they not pay attention to the mandatory evacuation order. Don't know,
- 21:37Speaker 2: but two versus twenty seven alone at Camp Mystic, and
- 21:42Speaker 2: I think the number of people that died during that
- 21:46Speaker 2: storm was substantially more than twenty seven, for sure. And
- 21:50Speaker 2: this is a worse flood.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Just don't live by the river.
- 21:56Speaker 6: Move This is interesting. The White House tele prompter operator,
- 22:00Speaker 6: which is a job that a lot of people probably
- 22:02Speaker 6: don't think about. There is somebody there using a teleprompter
- 22:06Speaker 6: to for the president's speeches. While apparently this man, Gabriel Perez,
- 22:11Speaker 6: as a technical assistant and teleprompter operator. He made a
- 22:16Speaker 6: bet using Calshi and won one hundred thousand dollars by
- 22:20Speaker 6: placing bets on the prediction markets about what President Trump
- 22:24Speaker 6: would say in his speeches. I think he knew as
- 22:28Speaker 6: he knew an advance. Imagine that the teleprompter operator knowing
- 22:31Speaker 6: what is going to be on the teleprompter.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Sure inside information, that's.
- 22:36Speaker 6: Right, And so he has been charged with insider knowledge
- 22:40Speaker 6: of placing those bets.
- 22:42Speaker 5: And yeah, that's the I mean only.
- 22:45Speaker 2: A surprised that he has a teleprompter operator, because he
- 22:50Speaker 2: never reads from the teleprompter.
- 22:53Speaker 5: I do.
- 22:53Speaker 6: I am a little surprised at that to be honest,
- 22:56Speaker 6: because he seems to be so off the cuff sometimes, I.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Bet said, and it admits it and it's proud of it.
- 23:02Speaker 2: And I kind of like that because when you look
- 23:05Speaker 2: at you know, the Joe Bidens of this world weeding
- 23:09Speaker 2: the teleprompter and very woodenly, it's kind of you know,
- 23:15Speaker 2: it's pretty staid, and you look good.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Fun sound bites, that's for sure.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sorry here the fun soundbites. But if you're
- 23:23Speaker 3: the actual prompter, I don't know, guy, that's got to
- 23:28Speaker 3: be a pain in the assis.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Move down.
- 23:33Speaker 6: When I was a local TV newscaster with in a
- 23:36Speaker 6: small market, I had to run my own teleprompter, so
- 23:39Speaker 6: I would be producing the newscast and anchoring the news,
- 23:43Speaker 6: and in one hand, I would have like a little
- 23:45Speaker 6: you know, almost like a little handheld thing that let me, yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 6: that change the speed while I was reading for the newscast,
- 23:52Speaker 6: so I could back it up or go forward or
- 23:54Speaker 6: speed it up if I needed to. And then there
- 23:57Speaker 6: was a button that would let me skip a story
- 23:58Speaker 6: if I needed to do.
- 24:00Speaker 2: That's a skill set doing all of that. At one time,
- 24:02Speaker 2: it was a lot.
- 24:03Speaker 5: It was a very stressful.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Now I imagine when you said you were running your
- 24:06Speaker 2: own teleprompter, that you would do a story, run behind
- 24:08Speaker 2: the camera, move the teleprompter, run back. Just with small
- 24:15Speaker 2: radio markets, the host runs the board, does the commercials certainly,
- 24:24Speaker 2: and does the DJing in music stations, and then when
- 24:28Speaker 2: he is off the air or she is off the air,
- 24:31Speaker 2: sweeps up the studio just does all the sales. It's
- 24:35Speaker 2: those are small markets.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Well, you know we run our own boards here too.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Yeah. No, you run your own board, KNO runs my board.
- 24:42Speaker 2: My cono is Bill, turn off the mic, turn on
- 24:46Speaker 2: the mic and or turn off mute and cono? How
- 24:49Speaker 2: often do you remind me to turn off my mic
- 24:52Speaker 2: or turn it back on? Every day? Every day the day?
- 24:55Speaker 2: Maybe four times minimum? Yeah? Yeah, major market, at major
- 25:01Speaker 2: market radio station. I wouldn't know how to run a
- 25:03Speaker 2: board if a gun was held in my head. Regurgitation,
- 25:06Speaker 2: and that's covered when we return. This is KFI AM
- 25:11Speaker 2: six point forty. You've been listening to the Bill Handle Show.
