- 0:40Speaker 6: Million kilowatts of power.
- 1:06Speaker 5: To provide more cooling in the containment chambers.
- 1:08Speaker 7: To your citizens, we have a movie meltdown.
- 1:11Speaker 2: And God is my witness. I'll never be hungry again.
- 1:19Speaker 6: Way down among Brazilians, coffee beans grow by the billions.
- 1:24Speaker 6: So they've got to find those extra cups to fill.
- 1:28Speaker 6: They got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil.
- 1:34Speaker 5: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.
- 1:36Speaker 4: I'm Greg.
- 1:37Speaker 8: I'm Alan.
- 1:38Speaker 4: I'm Fred.
- 1:39Speaker 9: I'm Marlena.
- 1:40Speaker 4: I'm Dave.
- 1:41Speaker 5: And we are back for another session of the Caffeinated
- 1:43Speaker 5: Movie Geek.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Cappuccino on my butt.
- 1:45Speaker 4: I still drink coffee.
- 1:48Speaker 7: The last fucking thing you need is another cup of coffee.
- 1:51Speaker 1: It's time for the Caffeinated Movie Geek.
- 1:54Speaker 10: We are coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:57Speaker 10: Green Room Coffee and Espresso Bar, where we will get together,
- 2:00Speaker 10: drink coffee, and talk movies. The other Alan is here,
- 2:03Speaker 10: but he's sitting out. He's had a rough day, so
- 2:05Speaker 10: we're giving him a break on this one.
- 2:08Speaker 5: He can wave. See, look, he waved to the microphone.
- 2:11Speaker 4: That works.
- 2:13Speaker 10: Oh, so we'll have to go to the other Alan. So, Alan,
- 2:17Speaker 10: I ask you, what blend of coffee are we drinking
- 2:19Speaker 10: this week?
- 2:20Speaker 8: We are apparently drinking Rwanda, as I was told.
- 2:25Speaker 1: You still don't believe me, do you? Nobody's going to convince.
- 2:29Speaker 4: You that this is coffee drinking wine.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Because you're fact-checking Brian on it, now you're like, ah,
- 2:37Speaker 1: so I'm told.
- 2:38Speaker 5: We'll only let it slide and sort of take your
- 2:40Speaker 5: word on it because you are A. Allen. A.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Allen.
- 2:43Speaker 8: Does that mean Allen with an A?
- 2:46Speaker 5: No.
- 2:46Speaker 8: Because otherwise that would just.
- 2:47Speaker 7: Be improper grammar.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Are there Allens with two A's like Aaron's?
- 2:52Speaker 5: I'm sure somewhere out there.
- 2:54Speaker 4: A-L-L-A-A-M?
- 2:55Speaker 5: There is some.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I knew a guy named Aaron with the two A's,
- 3:00Speaker 1: and he's like, oh, there's this other Aaron with three A's.
- 3:05Speaker 1: If I can't handle something, they get the other Aaron.
- 3:10Speaker 5: People and their trendy, trendy names.
- 3:12Speaker 4: The Alon would be better with one L than two A's. Yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 4: that's true. I'm disappointed.
- 3:18Speaker 5: How about an O? Can we get an O in there?
- 3:21Speaker 5: Can I buy a bow? Hold on. Okay, so before
- 3:25Speaker 5: we get too.
- 3:26Speaker 10: Far into our other shenanigans, we do, as you heard,
- 3:31Speaker 10: have Dave here, which if you remember, he was here
- 3:33Speaker 10: back when we did our Creature from the Black Lagoon discussion,
- 3:36Speaker 10: which was pretty awesome, if I might say so myself.
- 3:40Speaker 10: So as we mentioned then, you had worked with Wonderfest.
- 3:43Speaker 10: I was going to give you a little opportunity to
- 3:45Speaker 10: tell people.
- 3:46Speaker 5: You said you had some new updates on this one?
- 3:48Speaker 11: And new updates for our show, which takes place Memorial
- 3:51Speaker 11: Day weekend in May. Confirming some new guests. Bill Mosley
- 3:55Speaker 11: is going to make it this year.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 3:58Speaker 11: We're pretty happy about that.
- 3:59Speaker 5: He's an insane person.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Yeah, Bill's a lot of fun. Busy man. Busy man. Yes,
- 4:04Speaker 4: yes he is.
- 4:05Speaker 11: And speaking of Creature from the Black Lagoon, Julie Adams
- 4:07Speaker 11: is going to be back with us. She just wrote
- 4:09Speaker 11: a book about her career, and she's going to be
- 4:11Speaker 11: here with her son promoting the book.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 4:13Speaker 5: We can go tell her what we thought of her
- 4:15Speaker 5: as a hot 50s chick.
- 4:16Speaker 11: Oh, she's amazing.
- 4:17Speaker 4: And get kicked out?
- 4:18Speaker 5: And probably get kicked out, because she'll be creeped out
- 4:20Speaker 5: by us.
- 4:21Speaker 11: And since part of what we're celebrating this year is
- 4:25Speaker 11: the 30th anniversary of the summer of 82, which is
- 4:27Speaker 11: kind of the biggest genre summer as far as movies
- 4:31Speaker 11: go in history, So many cool movies came out that summer,
- 4:33Speaker 11: Blade Runner, E.T., Star Trek II, just tons of.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Stuff, Poltergeist.
- 4:41Speaker 11: Everybody's doing a Blade Runner theme this year in the
- 4:43Speaker 11: show world, but we managed to get Joanna Cassidy, who
- 4:46Speaker 11: has never done a show before. She was Zora, sort
- 4:50Speaker 11: of the trained assassin replicant.
- 4:52Speaker 4: In that film.
- 4:52Speaker 5: More importantly, from Hoot Frame, Roger Rabbit.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 4:56Speaker 5: I think Missy will be way more excited about that.
- 4:59Speaker 11: So she's really cool.
- 5:00Speaker 4: She's excited.
- 5:00Speaker 11: It's her first show, so we're going to be very
- 5:02Speaker 11: happy to have her here. And a number of other
- 5:04Speaker 11: people kind of associated with films from that summer. But
- 5:07Speaker 11: we're still working on the guest list, so we'll be
- 5:09Speaker 11: updating as we go.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Cool.
- 5:10Speaker 10: We are kind of working with Dave and everybody over
- 5:14Speaker 10: at Wonderfest. I'm going to try to head over there.
- 5:16Speaker 10: I mean, we've been there every year there's been a show.
- 5:19Speaker 5: I've been there every year. in my adult life, I think.
- 5:22Speaker 5: So to me, it's no big deal.
- 5:24Speaker 10: I'm always there, but I do want to try to
- 5:26Speaker 10: work in some cool stuff this year at the show.
- 5:28Speaker 10: So we're going to try to do at least an
- 5:30Speaker 10: episode or two from out there amongst the, uh, goings
- 5:33Speaker 10: on there.
- 5:33Speaker 7: It should be fun.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely. All right.
- 5:37Speaker 10: Um, before we, uh, this one's sort of a free
- 5:41Speaker 10: for all I'm thinking it's, we've got some interesting, what's
- 5:44Speaker 10: the buzz stuff. And I figure everybody's always got our,
- 5:47Speaker 10: our sort of geek activities.
- 5:49Speaker 5: So, We'll just throw them all in.
- 5:51Speaker 7: Groovy.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Tell me what's happening.
- 5:55Speaker 4: What's the buzz?
- 5:56Speaker 5: Tell me what's happening.
- 5:57Speaker 4: What's the buzz?
- 5:58Speaker 5: Tell me what's happening.
- 5:59Speaker 4: What's the buzz?
- 5:59Speaker 10: We'll start with what's the buzz, but the first one
- 6:01Speaker 10: has a crossover into geek activities for at least two,
- 6:06Speaker 10: maybe three of us.
- 6:06Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 6:08Speaker 10: So we'll start off with geek activity for me. I
- 6:11Speaker 10: saw The Hunger Games this week. I know Alan did.
- 6:15Speaker 8: I did, right before coming.
- 6:16Speaker 5: It's great. So to put it in perspective.
- 6:20Speaker 10: I've got my Hunger Games dog tags on here with
- 6:24Speaker 10: future guests of the show, Jennifer Lawrence.
- 6:25Speaker 5: I'm still working on that, by the way.
- 6:27Speaker 4: She'll be on the show.
- 6:28Speaker 5: She'll be on the show, because we're best friends.
- 6:30Speaker 10: And if nothing else, I mean, the main thing, the
- 6:34Speaker 10: reason it was, like, I brought it up first thing
- 6:36Speaker 10: that came up on the news, is Hunger Games kills
- 6:39Speaker 10: with the fifth best opening date ever, which is pretty impressive.
- 6:43Speaker 10: It's the third best opening weekend ever. It's right behind, like,
- 6:47Speaker 10: Dark Knight, so it's It's making huge money for something
- 6:50Speaker 10: that was, you know, still a lot of people weren't
- 6:52Speaker 10: sure what was going to happen to it and weren't
- 6:55Speaker 10: sure what was going to become of this transferring the
- 6:58Speaker 10: book into the movie. So I thought we'd throw it
- 7:00Speaker 10: out there and see what, I guess without spoiling things,
- 7:04Speaker 10: since it's so new, I was just going to go
- 7:05Speaker 10: with overall feelings for at least the few of us
- 7:08Speaker 10: that have seen it, if nobody else has.
- 7:10Speaker 8: Everybody's looking at me all of a sudden.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Well, you've seen it.
- 7:13Speaker 8: Well, I kind of went into it thinking if the
- 7:16Speaker 8: direction's okay and the acting's not too bad and the
- 7:18Speaker 8: script isn't too bad, at best I can expect maybe
- 7:21Speaker 8: just something entertaining to watch, big dumb fun on the
- 7:23Speaker 8: big screen. And I was actually really surprised how much
- 7:27Speaker 8: could actually be gotten out of it. There was a
- 7:29Speaker 8: lot more depth than I anticipated with the whole commentary
- 7:32Speaker 8: on the reality show thing as well as the defiance
- 7:35Speaker 8: of authority.
- 7:37Speaker 9: Just.
- 7:38Speaker 8: there was a lot more to it and they, they,
- 7:41Speaker 8: they were able to avoid being overly melodramatic, except one really, really.
- 7:49Speaker 7: Sweet.
- 7:51Speaker 8: I can't say what it.
- 7:52Speaker 10: Is, but yeah, I mean, there's a couple of moments, but, but,
- 7:55Speaker 10: but I mean, that kind of needs to be there.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Really? That's the book.
- 7:58Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Really overdone.
- 7:59Speaker 8: But then it was immediately followed by, I thought the
- 8:01Speaker 8: best scene in the movie. Um, but are we on
- 8:04Speaker 8: the same page? I mean, we were thinking of completely
- 8:06Speaker 8: different things, but.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Um, Yeah, so.
- 8:09Speaker 5: We can come back to it later.
- 8:11Speaker 8: I was surprisingly satisfied with it.
- 8:14Speaker 7: Very much looking forward to the sequel.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I went in, yeah, pretty unsure. Just kind of
- 8:19Speaker 5: going to go see, you know, because... Half of it
- 8:23Speaker 5: because I wanted to see what Jennifer Lawrence was doing.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Number one, I'll give her credit. She turned in a
- 8:27Speaker 5: great performance.
- 8:28Speaker 10: Like, that could have gone really badly, and I think she...
- 8:32Speaker 10: She makes it work. And I think one of the
- 8:34Speaker 10: things I was so impressed with, and it's been compared
- 8:37Speaker 10: a lot to, aside from the other thing I'll get to,
- 8:41Speaker 10: it's compared a lot, because of the novel, it gets
- 8:43Speaker 10: compared a lot to Twilight. So I'm sitting there the
- 8:45Speaker 10: whole time looking at this going, okay, this is the anti-Twilight.
- 8:49Speaker 10: If ever there's a strong female lead that you can
- 8:53Speaker 10: get behind who's fucking in charge of every scene, I mean,
- 8:56Speaker 10: that scene at the beginning when she's talking to her mother,
- 8:59Speaker 10: It's amazing.
- 9:00Speaker 5: It's a great scene.
- 9:01Speaker 10: It's something you could have seen in a weird little
- 9:04Speaker 10: indie movie that just happens to be in this huge
- 9:06Speaker 10: big budget movie. Her acting is still that strong that
- 9:10Speaker 10: it's not getting watered down by the massive amounts of
- 9:13Speaker 10: millions of dollars being thrown at it. I think she's
- 9:15Speaker 10: still delivering really good performances. That was my other thing,
- 9:19Speaker 10: is just having a story out there that is aimed
- 9:22Speaker 10: at young adults and has a female lead.
- 9:25Speaker 5: And is not a moron. It's not a complete you know,
- 9:28Speaker 5: vapid waste of space.
- 9:29Speaker 10: You know, I think the fact that she is very
- 9:32Speaker 10: strong and very driven and smart, you know.
- 9:35Speaker 5: It's like, that's, that's a good thing to have.
- 9:37Speaker 10: Like, even if you'd hate the movie, having that kind
- 9:39Speaker 10: of main character is, is kind of a nice thing
- 9:41Speaker 10: to throw into our society at this point. So yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 10: amongst the Twilight nonsense, I kind of like having her
- 9:47Speaker 10: as a character.
- 9:48Speaker 5: If nothing else.
- 9:49Speaker 8: Yeah, we got, we got a trailer for the last
- 9:51Speaker 8: Twilight movie.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Before the movie.
- 9:54Speaker 5: Did people boo it?
- 9:55Speaker 8: No, I was with, well, see, sitting behind me was
- 9:58Speaker 8: a group of teenage girls, and they were talking about Twilight,
- 10:01Speaker 8: and then I went up to go to the bathroom
- 10:02Speaker 8: before the movie started, and my seat had been taken,
- 10:04Speaker 8: so I went to another seat with another group of
- 10:07Speaker 8: teenage girls behind me, and they started talking about Twilight, too.
- 10:10Speaker 8: And how much they loved popcorn.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Well, now that I can get on board with. Who
- 10:15Speaker 5: doesn't like popcorn?
- 10:16Speaker 9: Were they, like, for it or against it?
- 10:18Speaker 4: Oh, they were excited.
- 10:20Speaker 8: They were talking about, I wonder how they're going to
- 10:21Speaker 8: do this in the movie.
- 10:22Speaker 5: I thought you meant popcorn. Yeah, they were pro-popcorn.
- 10:26Speaker 1: How did they.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Feel about that popcorn? That's a campaign I can get
- 10:30Speaker 5: on board with, pro-popcorn.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So what is the opposite of Twilight? Would that be
- 10:35Speaker 1: like early morning.
- 10:38Speaker 1: There's not even a word for it. Dawn.
- 10:41Speaker 5: Teenagers killing each other? I think that's... I.
- 10:44Speaker 8: Will say for Twilight, though, like when I... I did
- 10:46Speaker 8: see the first movie, and I laughed so hard that
- 10:50Speaker 8: I could not wait to see the second one.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Don't get me wrong.
- 10:53Speaker 8: Just for all the wrong reasons.
- 10:54Speaker 10: I've watched the first three and made fun of them.
- 10:56Speaker 8: I didn't get to the third one yet, but I
- 10:57Speaker 8: wouldn't be opposed to it just because.
- 10:58Speaker 4: It is so bad.
- 11:00Speaker 10: I decided I wasn't going to be one of those
- 11:01Speaker 10: douchebags who talks shit about it and has never watched it.
- 11:04Speaker 5: So I'm just like, if I'm going to make fun
- 11:06Speaker 5: of it, I want to have material to make fun of.
- 11:08Speaker 8: I love to hate it because I read the books
- 11:10Speaker 8: as well. I have six sisters, and it was before...
- 11:14Speaker 8: Before it was cool.
- 11:15Speaker 5: Before it was cool.
- 11:16Speaker 8: So it was written by a Mormon, and growing up
- 11:18Speaker 8: with a Mormon upbringing myself, I'm getting all this wonderful
- 11:23Speaker 8: anti-feminist stuff, but without knowing it, because that's how Mormonism
- 11:27Speaker 8: treats their women. They're second class, but they're made to
- 11:29Speaker 8: think that they're not, that it's okay. It's all over
- 11:32Speaker 8: the books, and it's great.
- 11:34Speaker 10: The other things I was going to say, the other
- 11:35Speaker 10: main thing that they constantly bring up, and you can't
- 11:39Speaker 10: argue the similarity to Battle Royale, so I will try
- 11:43Speaker 10: not to compare it, because again, they're different movies, they're
- 11:45Speaker 10: different stories.
- 11:47Speaker 5: It's different. But I'll give kind of compare and contrast
- 11:50Speaker 5: as to who does what. I mean, watching the violent...
- 11:53Speaker 5: And again, for being PG-13, it's pretty violent.
- 11:56Speaker 10: And they get away with a good amount of realism
- 12:00Speaker 10: for something that could have been drawn back even more.
- 12:02Speaker 8: I really liked how they dealt with that, because I
- 12:04Speaker 8: was thinking this would be better as an R-rated movie,
- 12:06Speaker 8: but they obviously can't.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Not for the money.
- 12:08Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 12:11Speaker 10: But for what they were working with, I think it
- 12:14Speaker 10: doesn't suffer much.
- 12:17Speaker 5: But by the end of it, I think, again, not
- 12:19Speaker 5: so much the violent, it's just the way that they
- 12:21Speaker 5: wrap it up.
- 12:23Speaker 10: I think the end, the big finale, I think is
- 12:26Speaker 10: something she might have referred to it as. That little
- 12:28Speaker 10: move at the end seemed kind of cheap, and I
- 12:31Speaker 10: would have liked to have seen more just flat-out, cold-hearted
- 12:35Speaker 10: kids attacking each other kind of thing.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Like, And they sort of pull away at that midway in.
- 12:40Speaker 10: The first half's pretty hardcore, and then they get kind
- 12:43Speaker 10: of caught up in the story, and I think that
- 12:45Speaker 10: sort of suffers. Whereas Battle Royale is badass, and is
- 12:49Speaker 10: definitely way more hardcore. Not just the violence, because they
- 12:51Speaker 10: can be R, but just the mean streak that runs
- 12:55Speaker 10: through it. The hardcore way that the kids treat each other,
- 12:59Speaker 10: the hardcore way that the deaths come about, the cruel
- 13:05Speaker 10: reality of the death.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Everything about Battle Royale is just.
- 13:08Speaker 10: fucking mean you know it's just there's no nice side
- 13:11Speaker 10: to it where this i don't know it seems like
- 13:13Speaker 10: it pulls back in order to give it the you
- 13:16Speaker 10: know proper novel ending that it had i think it
- 13:19Speaker 10: pulls back a little bit on that so that was
- 13:22Speaker 10: the only thing but again i kind of expected i
- 13:24Speaker 10: it still delivered more than i expected even in that
- 13:26Speaker 10: area the other thing i was going to say the
- 13:29Speaker 10: thing that i think.
- 13:30Speaker 5: It does better is um Battle Royale really doesn't go
- 13:34Speaker 5: much into the future world.
- 13:35Speaker 10: Like, all you get is the battle and the kids,
- 13:38Speaker 10: and it does a lot better job fleshing out the
- 13:40Speaker 10: characters in Battle Royale. You get to know a lot
- 13:43Speaker 10: of those kids for as huge cast that it has.
- 13:46Speaker 10: It still makes it possible to get to know a
- 13:49Speaker 10: lot of these. Where this one, there's a lot of
- 13:50Speaker 10: kids you don't even know who they are. You don't
- 13:52Speaker 10: really care on a lot of them.
- 13:53Speaker 5: So, what I think it did better is that future world,
- 13:57Speaker 5: that dystopia that exists in this, is amazing. Like, they...
- 14:02Speaker 5: put a lot of time and a lot of money.
- 14:05Speaker 10: You can see the grand scale that they made everything,
- 14:09Speaker 10: and they also worked out, and again, a lot of
- 14:11Speaker 10: that is the book, but you get a good portion
- 14:14Speaker 10: of this movie that is just world building and character
- 14:17Speaker 10: building before you even get to the battle.
- 14:19Speaker 5: Which is not what I expected.
- 14:21Speaker 11: Yeah, it's kind of rare these days.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Yeah, and totally different than Battle Royale.
- 14:24Speaker 10: Battle Royale, much like the kids, you're just thrown into it,
- 14:26Speaker 10: and you get little glimpses of the the TV coverage
- 14:30Speaker 10: and that kind of stuff. But even that, even at
- 14:32Speaker 10: the time when I saw it, I was like, they
- 14:33Speaker 10: could have done more with that, really. They could have
- 14:35Speaker 10: made fun of the, it still, at that point when
- 14:37Speaker 10: they made it, reality television still wasn't as rampant as
- 14:41Speaker 10: it is today. But they could have done more with
- 14:43Speaker 10: that even at the time of Battle Royale, where this one,
- 14:46Speaker 10: they don't disappoint. They deliver this whole messed up future
- 14:51Speaker 10: world and you get a pretty good picture of what
- 14:53Speaker 10: it is. And they do, to me, what it was
- 14:55Speaker 10: closest to, Death Race 2000.
- 14:58Speaker 4: That world building.
- 14:59Speaker 11: It sounds kind of like Death Race and kind of
- 15:01Speaker 11: like Rollerball.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:02Speaker 11: Because it kind of puts it within the context of
- 15:03Speaker 11: that culture, too.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Which I like.
- 15:05Speaker 11: It sounds like I would enjoy that a lot, the
- 15:07Speaker 11: satirical aspect.
- 15:08Speaker 10: I love Death Race 2000. So to me, it's got that...
- 15:11Speaker 10: It doesn't take it as hammy. You know, Death Race
- 15:14Speaker 10: has a lot of fun, and it knows how goofy
- 15:16Speaker 10: it is. Where this one, it's got the satire, but
- 15:18Speaker 10: it doesn't ham it up so much that it's making
- 15:20Speaker 10: fun of itself. So, yeah, I was impressed with that. So,
- 15:25Speaker 10: if nothing else, yeah, I say... That's just sort of
- 15:29Speaker 10: the overall. It doesn't really spoil anything. I say it's
- 15:31Speaker 10: worth seeing.
- 15:31Speaker 11: If American popular culture is going to be driven by
- 15:34Speaker 11: whatever 14-year-olds are reading, as it has been for years,
- 15:37Speaker 11: then this sounds like a pretty good source material. Maybe
- 15:40Speaker 11: they'll learn something from it.
- 15:41Speaker 8: I'm curious what's next, because after Harry Potter started petering out,
- 15:44Speaker 8: then Twilight came, and now Hunger Games.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So what's next?
- 15:48Speaker 4: It's getting smarter. Maybe. That's, yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 5: I mean, two out of three haven't been bad, really.
- 15:53Speaker 5: I mean, Harry Potter's been smart for the most part.
- 15:57Speaker 8: The Harry Potter movies got consistently better, I thought.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:59Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Definitely.
- 16:01Speaker 8: Pretty fantastic, I thought. Yeah.
- 16:05Speaker 5: So, I guess, you know, we can leave it at that.
- 16:07Speaker 10: But I was just kind of amazed at how well
- 16:09Speaker 10: it did at the box office and then just kind
- 16:12Speaker 10: of interested to see what they did with it.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Let me ask this.
- 16:16Speaker 14: I mean, it was just, like, this last week or
- 16:20Speaker 14: the previous week that battle royale is now released finally
- 16:24Speaker 14: in the united states does that coincide with hey if
- 16:27Speaker 14: they can get away with that we can get away.
- 16:29Speaker 11: With i'm sure it was definitely planned yeah i.
- 16:31Speaker 10: Think i mean i know timing wise it had to
- 16:33Speaker 10: be planned but even then i'm sure they had to
- 16:35Speaker 10: start working on that a long time ago and when
- 16:37Speaker 10: they saw that the book got optioned to make a
- 16:40Speaker 10: movie they went oh well we've we've greased the wheels
- 16:42Speaker 10: now if people are okay with these kids killing each
- 16:44Speaker 10: other right The R-rated crowd will be okay with this
- 16:48Speaker 10: being in the American audience.
- 16:50Speaker 14: Two years ago, I remember thinking, and maybe even listening
- 16:54Speaker 14: to the episode, saying, oh, this will never get released
- 16:59Speaker 14: here because so many people would put a stop to it.
- 17:02Speaker 14: Now it's like, I see parents with younger children encouraging
- 17:08Speaker 14: their kids to read it because, hey, I've read Harry Potter,
- 17:11Speaker 14: what's next? Or something like that. And it's just so
- 17:15Speaker 14: universally accepted. And there's a lot of, I've read 75,
- 17:18Speaker 14: 80% of The Hunger Games, the first one. And so,
- 17:22Speaker 14: you know, I was impressed with the world building, how
- 17:25Speaker 14: succinctly they were able to do that in the book
- 17:28Speaker 14: as well. And within the first chapter, they give you
- 17:30Speaker 14: a really good idea of the feel of this world.
- 17:34Speaker 4: And I was hoping that they'd do that in the movie.
- 17:36Speaker 14: But just how quickly and how easily, you know, soccer
- 17:40Speaker 14: moms are willing to, say, hey, read this, or watch this.
- 17:48Speaker 8: I feel like that was one of the things sort
- 17:50Speaker 8: of satirized in the movie. There was a scene in
- 17:52Speaker 8: the world where this dad gives his son this toy sword,
- 17:56Speaker 8: and he goes chasing around his sister, and the dad's
- 17:59Speaker 8: just laughing, and the sword looks real. It's like this
- 18:01Speaker 8: is kind of satirizing itself. I thought that was pretty great.
- 18:05Speaker 5: It's satirizing their own world. It's kind of satirizing our world, too.
- 18:10Speaker 10: Yeah, I was thinking that too, like as I sat
- 18:12Speaker 10: in the theater, the people in front of me were
- 18:14Speaker 10: soccer mom and like eight, maybe 10 year olds. I mean,
- 18:19Speaker 10: there were two kids there with them that, and maybe more,
- 18:21Speaker 10: I think some of them might've been sitting somewhere else,
- 18:23Speaker 10: but they were all pretty young. And I was just like,
- 18:26Speaker 10: at first I was like, what are these kids doing here?
- 18:28Speaker 10: And then I went, oh, well, it is a young
- 18:29Speaker 10: adult book. And then by the end of it, I
- 18:32Speaker 10: was talking with somebody else who'd read the books and
- 18:34Speaker 10: we were talking about it. And I was just like, well, Hell,
- 18:36Speaker 10: the kids are reading. I mean, as much as I
- 18:39Speaker 10: could care less about reading, it's good to encourage children
- 18:42Speaker 10: to do so. If that's what they want to read,
- 18:45Speaker 10: I wouldn't stop my kid from reading.
- 18:47Speaker 5: I'd be like, go to town. If you want to
- 18:49Speaker 5: read it, read it.
- 18:49Speaker 4: There's just as much death in Harry Potter as there
- 18:52Speaker 4: is in that. I mean, Harry Potter is bloody. Bloody.
- 18:58Speaker 4: And even when you think about.
- 19:02Speaker 14: C.S.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Lewis' Narnia, there's a lot of death in that.
- 19:05Speaker 1: A lot of death.
- 19:06Speaker 14: And that's a kid's book. I mean, I started reading
- 19:09Speaker 14: that to my daughter when she was three.
- 19:11Speaker 11: Yeah, I have a friend, I think her son was 11,
- 19:16Speaker 11: and they went to see Hunger Games yesterday. He was
- 19:18Speaker 11: a little disturbed by some of it, but he's a
- 19:20Speaker 11: pretty sensitive kid. I pointed out, you know, I was
- 19:22Speaker 11: watching Jaws when I was 11.
- 19:25Speaker 5: It's PG.
- 19:25Speaker 11: It's PG. It was the first movie that had that
- 19:28Speaker 11: little warning about it may be too intense for younger children.
- 19:31Speaker 4: But it was PG.
- 19:32Speaker 5: Back at a time when we didn't worry about that stuff.
- 19:33Speaker 11: It has severed heads and severed legs and blood everywhere.
- 19:35Speaker 11: It's because they wanted the money. And it didn't damage
- 19:39Speaker 11: me too badly.
- 19:40Speaker 5: I watched nothing but R-rated stuff on cable.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Look out. Oh, wait.
- 19:45Speaker 5: I'm not a good example. So, but yeah, it's definitely
- 19:50Speaker 5: worth seeing. Love it for, you know, even if you're mediocre. It's,
- 19:53Speaker 5: I think, worth seeing.
- 19:55Speaker 10: And I'm glad to see this get that kind of
- 19:57Speaker 10: opening versus something stupid like Twilight.
- 19:59Speaker 5: So, moving on.
- 20:02Speaker 10: We had a few interesting news items thrown at us
- 20:05Speaker 10: this past week that I wanted to see. If you
- 20:07Speaker 10: wanted to go ahead and just rant on them, First
- 20:10Speaker 10: of all, James posted the Michael Bay thing about Teenage
- 20:14Speaker 10: Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- 20:15Speaker 5: Would you like to go off on that, Greg? I think... Wait,
- 20:19Speaker 5: excuse me. Teenage Mutant Alien Turtles?
- 20:21Speaker 4: Alien Turtles. Yeah, I think you were prepared for me
- 20:23Speaker 4: to go off on that. Yes.
- 20:25Speaker 14: It's Michael Bay. I don't really give a shit at
- 20:29Speaker 14: this point. If he wants to make it and if
- 20:33Speaker 14: it's entertaining, fine. I mean, not fine, but fine.
- 20:37Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 14: And again, I wasn't a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aficionado.
- 20:44Speaker 4: I thought the show was kind of cool. I was
- 20:45Speaker 4: a little bit older. at the time. I was too.
- 20:48Speaker 5: It didn't stop me from watching it every time.
- 20:51Speaker 4: They were cool. It was a good show.
- 20:53Speaker 14: It was probably the first comic book that I was like,
- 20:56Speaker 14: I'm going to read that comic book.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I did subscribe to Teenage Mutant Turtle Aficionado magazine, but
- 21:03Speaker 1: I didn't read all the articles.
- 21:05Speaker 5: You're just there for the fold-outs of Donatello.
- 21:09Speaker 4: It kind of.
- 21:14Speaker 14: Ruins the whole idea of what it's based on if
- 21:18Speaker 14: you're not mutants. It's like saying the X-Men aren't mutants.
- 21:23Speaker 11: It's a reinvention.
- 21:24Speaker 14: He's going to remake the movie, but they're going to.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Be aliens and not mutants.
- 21:29Speaker 8: That destroys the whole.
- 21:30Speaker 5: Misty had the best comment about it. If you take
- 21:33Speaker 5: the M out of T.M.
- 21:40Speaker 4: N-T.
- 21:41Speaker 1: N-T, then you just have T-N-T, which is just.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Stuff blowing up. Which is exactly what Michael Bay wanted.
- 21:48Speaker 10: That was Misty for you. But yeah, that's the same
- 21:51Speaker 10: thing I said online. Michael Bay's so stupid, he doesn't
- 21:54Speaker 10: know what that M stands for in the little abbreviation.
- 21:57Speaker 8: Now, if he gets.
- 21:59Speaker 4: It is, kind of.
- 22:00Speaker 5: If he gets Corey.
- 22:07Speaker 14: to do don't tell his voice oh there you go
- 22:10Speaker 14: i might be okay with it.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Uh cory wasn't even in there for one of the
- 22:13Speaker 5: movies so was it the second one the second one
- 22:15Speaker 5: i think he disappeared on but he came back for
- 22:17Speaker 5: the third one because he was.
- 22:18Speaker 15: Hard up for money rehab yeah drugs whatever so yeah
- 22:23Speaker 15: well first of all as you go into the story
- 22:25Speaker 15: he's not even directing it he's just producing which is
- 22:28Speaker 15: probably a good thing actually because at least it won't.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Have that look.
- 22:33Speaker 1: You mean stuff just being randomly thrown in your face.
- 22:36Speaker 5: And constant moving so you don't really know what the
- 22:39Speaker 5: hell's going on. Yeah, all of that stuff. So, yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 5: he says, well, first of all, his response to all
- 22:45Speaker 5: the massive geek uprising on the Internet is, quote, fans
- 22:49Speaker 5: need to take a breath and chill. Man, that guy's
- 22:53Speaker 5: a thinker. I tell you, he's a smart one.
- 22:56Speaker 10: So, yeah, director Jonathan Lisman says, who did Battle of
- 23:00Speaker 10: Los Angeles and Wrath.
- 23:02Speaker 5: Of the Titans.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Oh, shit.
- 23:04Speaker 5: This is not any better.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Let's go back to Michael Bay directing.
- 23:08Speaker 5: I hadn't read that far into it. He said he'll
- 23:10Speaker 5: actually be directing and taking the, let's see, will be
- 23:13Speaker 5: directing the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, following up his
- 23:17Speaker 5: comments saying that the canisters where the ooze comes from,
- 23:21Speaker 5: that is alien ooze. So they will be alien mutants
- 23:25Speaker 5: or some nonsense.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 23:27Speaker 5: It's just like, doesn't that fix everything?
- 23:29Speaker 10: I think, once again, and this is what I was
- 23:32Speaker 10: saying when I posted it online for you.
- 23:33Speaker 5: I was like, it's the same things as the Transformers.
- 23:36Speaker 10: It's not that he's worried about those little details because
- 23:40Speaker 10: he doesn't care. He does not care what it is
- 23:44Speaker 10: he's doing as long as he gets to do what he.
- 23:46Speaker 5: He is an auteur. He will do whatever the hell
- 23:48Speaker 5: he wants to get his finished product. And it doesn't mean...
- 23:53Speaker 5: It's good.
- 23:53Speaker 10: It doesn't mean anybody else has to like it as
- 23:55Speaker 10: long as he likes it. And it's really our own
- 23:57Speaker 10: fault because last time we gave him.
- 23:59Speaker 5: What, $ 250 million for that movie?
- 24:01Speaker 10: I mean, we made it a number one movie for
- 24:03Speaker 10: several weeks there. So it's kind of our own fault
- 24:05Speaker 10: that he keeps making this crap.
- 24:08Speaker 4: But again, that's how you get metal balls on robots.
- 24:12Speaker 5: Just wait for Michelangelo's. Turtle balls. Oh, God.
- 24:19Speaker 4: If they don't eat pizza, I might riot.
- 24:21Speaker 5: They all get sushi now. So, let's see. The next one,
- 24:27Speaker 5: let's see.
- 24:29Speaker 10: We had sent over, this is from John, and John,
- 24:32Speaker 10: the quote on it is actually, this should make Fred
- 24:35Speaker 10: happy from your stalker fan. So, John seems to like
- 24:39Speaker 10: your take on things.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Cool.
- 24:42Speaker 5: The story is.
- 24:42Speaker 1: I get that a lot, not really.
- 24:45Speaker 5: I don't know if you saw the story. It's pretty fun.
- 24:49Speaker 5: Paramount Pictures and two of the producers of Rise of
- 24:51Speaker 5: the Planet of the Apes are collaborating on a new
- 24:54Speaker 5: project called Huck, which seems to be a reinvention on
- 24:57Speaker 5: Mark Twain's famous characters Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer.
- 25:09Speaker 10: What exactly the new story will be about is currently
- 25:11Speaker 10: unknown except that it's being compared to Snow White and
- 25:13Speaker 10: the Huntsman and will have supernatural.
- 25:16Speaker 5: Elements in quotation marks.
- 25:19Speaker 1: It will have supernatural elements in quotation marks.
- 25:24Speaker 5: In quotation marks.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I don't know about that.
- 25:26Speaker 5: Supernatural.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Maybe in parentheses.
- 25:29Speaker 5: No, no. Quotations. Oh, okay. So, yeah, I didn't know
- 25:34Speaker 5: if you had any response to that.
- 25:36Speaker 1: That's total bullshit.
- 25:40Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 25:40Speaker 5: Look, Tom, it's a g-g-g-ghost!
- 25:43Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 25:44Speaker 10: I'm waiting to see if they turn it into a
- 25:46Speaker 10: Scooby episode or something.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Oh, shit.
- 25:52Speaker 5: I don't know. I thought that was pretty damn entertaining.
- 25:55Speaker 9: Wow.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Wow.
- 25:59Speaker 1: No, I had not heard of that.
- 26:00Speaker 7: You're going to keep it that? Huck?
- 26:03Speaker 5: That's what they've got it now.
- 26:04Speaker 8: It reminds me of this upcoming movie I heard about
- 26:07Speaker 8: called Pan, because of the retelling of Peter Pan, where
- 26:10Speaker 8: Peter Pan is actually.
- 26:13Speaker 8: I guess it's keeping the mythological supernatural thing, but he
- 26:16Speaker 8: actually kidnaps the kids, uh, to never, never land. And
- 26:19Speaker 8: hook is actually a police captain. So captain played to
- 26:23Speaker 8: be played by Aaron Eckhart, who is trying to bring
- 26:26Speaker 8: Pam to justice.
- 26:28Speaker 1: So what they could do is make it captain Hawk
- 26:32Speaker 1: and Huckleberry Finn could be this. I don't know.
- 26:36Speaker 5: A robot from the mutant future. Wait, hold on. We're
- 26:39Speaker 5: mixing all this up.
- 26:41Speaker 9: Oh Lord.
- 26:42Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 26:42Speaker 10: So, Hopefully they'll put JTT in.
- 26:45Speaker 5: The middle of it and it'll be a classic.
- 26:48Speaker 4: It'll be great.
- 26:50Speaker 5: So, let's see. The next one here we.
- 26:53Speaker 4: Is he still a thing? I mean, is he still.
- 26:54Speaker 5: He's in hiding, I think. He's just tired of all
- 26:57Speaker 5: this bullshit.
- 26:57Speaker 4: I would be, too. It's like, I never should have
- 27:01Speaker 4: left Home Improvement. Yeah.
- 27:03Speaker 5: He can go on the new show with the.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Which is Home Improvement.
- 27:08Speaker 5: Yeah, it's Home Improvement in a.
- 27:10Speaker 4: In a package.
- 27:10Speaker 5: Yeah, in a.
- 27:11Speaker 10: wilderness store or whatever the hell he's doing now. It
- 27:14Speaker 10: actually is damn near the same show.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Tim Allen?
- 27:17Speaker 10: I've seen one episode and it's like almost exactly the
- 27:20Speaker 10: same cookie cutter scenario. Like he has like a web
- 27:23Speaker 10: show now where he's in front of like a green
- 27:25Speaker 10: screen and he's doing.
- 27:26Speaker 5: I was like, it's tool time. Only he's in a wilderness,
- 27:30Speaker 5: you know, supply store.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Instead of a tools themed show.
- 27:35Speaker 9: Are they going to John Fogarty him and sue him?
- 27:38Speaker 5: They should. Yeah. tim allen you are too much like
- 27:42Speaker 5: tim allen please stop no really please stop and.
- 27:45Speaker 4: I think it even has the same canned laughter.
- 27:50Speaker 8: That's just about dead and it needs to do they.
- 27:52Speaker 9: Still have the wife and the three sons.
- 27:55Speaker 5: Now he has daughters three daughters he's got a wife totally.
- 27:58Speaker 10: She's a wisecracking wife and she's got i think it
- 28:01Speaker 10: is three daughters if not two i think it's three is.
- 28:03Speaker 5: There a wilson That guy's dead now.
- 28:06Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 28:07Speaker 8: A friend of mine.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Worked in the laughter canneries in Alaska one season. He
- 28:18Speaker 1: said it was just rooms full of giggling Eskimos. You
- 28:21Speaker 1: go up there and you make some money, and then
- 28:23Speaker 1: he traveled. He liked to travel.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Oh, God.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Moving on.
- 28:30Speaker 5: So, yeah, Imagine Entertainment has.
- 28:34Speaker 10: entered into negotiations trying to get a Salvador Dali biopic made.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Another one?
- 28:40Speaker 5: I don't... Well, I mean, this is the one they've
- 28:42Speaker 5: been trying to get going for a while now, and
- 28:44Speaker 5: I really... The only.
- 28:44Speaker 10: Thing I have to say is, after last year, how
- 28:47Speaker 10: can you not cast Adrian Brody?
- 28:50Speaker 13: Yeah, I know.
- 28:50Speaker 5: I mean, he was so damn entertaining in that few
- 28:54Speaker 5: minutes on screen.
- 28:54Speaker 1: He did the best thing, I thought.
- 28:56Speaker 4: He did that, didn't you? Yeah, I did.
- 28:58Speaker 5: I was just going to write it, not the point
- 29:00Speaker 5: it is.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I just... I expected it to be a bigger thing.
- 29:04Speaker 1: It was just like a regular Woody Allen movie.
- 29:06Speaker 10: I thought all the performances of those characters were really good.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I thought What's-His-Name was fine as a Woody Allen stand-in.
- 29:14Speaker 5: He was pretty good, actually. I loved the.
- 29:16Speaker 8: Guy who played Hemingway. I was kind of upset when
- 29:19Speaker 8: he didn't get an Oscar nomination.
- 29:21Speaker 10: I thought all those characters were pretty good. In hearing this,
- 29:24Speaker 10: there's not really a whole lot of other. I just
- 29:26Speaker 10: thought that was funny because they don't mention that at all.
- 29:28Speaker 10: I'm just like, somebody's got to be on board with this.
- 29:31Speaker 10: They need to tie this in or something.
- 29:33Speaker 5: Just don't let Woody write it.
- 29:34Speaker 8: Did anybody see Little Ashes?
- 29:37Speaker 6: No.
- 29:37Speaker 8: I'm just curious.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I haven't seen it.
- 29:38Speaker 8: I'm just curious how Robert Pattinson was as Dolly. Because
- 29:42Speaker 8: it didn't really make sense to me.
- 29:43Speaker 5: I think I blocked that out. I forgot about that.
- 29:46Speaker 1: You know, I'm not a big fan of Dolly, but
- 29:49Speaker 1: I saw a show with some of his early work
- 29:52Speaker 1: that I was less familiar with. He was freaking good.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Yeah, he was.
- 29:56Speaker 5: I love Dolly.
- 29:57Speaker 4: What a great painter.
- 29:58Speaker 5: I even like his more.
- 30:00Speaker 10: ridiculously over publicized stuff but yeah he's he's an amazing
- 30:04Speaker 10: guy and and started out very traditional and was good
- 30:07Speaker 10: at it yeah he's very and then yeah he's i
- 30:11Speaker 10: don't know he's he's a weird and amazing guy so
- 30:14Speaker 10: it'd be nice if they did a good movie of him.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Well i saw that show that's uh it was like
- 30:18Speaker 1: picasso miro and dolly and it was from the period
- 30:22Speaker 1: when they sort of knew each other's early work for
- 30:25Speaker 1: a mostly for all of them yeah and uh the
- 30:29Speaker 1: the dolly stuff was fantastic and i guess i hadn't
- 30:34Speaker 1: uh been exposed to the earlier i guess the later
- 30:38Speaker 1: stuff seems a little i don't know something to me
- 30:42Speaker 1: it's not that i i didn't have any it's not
- 30:45Speaker 1: that i hated him or anything i was just really
- 30:47Speaker 1: surprised How much I liked some of the early stuff.
- 30:50Speaker 10: He just gets so into his own style that by
- 30:53Speaker 10: the end he's repeating himself.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Everything's a cliche of his own work by the time
- 30:57Speaker 5: he's old.
- 30:58Speaker 1: He almost does a kind of Nicolas Cage thing. He
- 31:03Speaker 1: starts being himself more than he needs to be.
- 31:07Speaker 5: Definitely, yeah. That's pretty accurate, actually.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Has the money to take more drugs.
- 31:11Speaker 1: But God, let's not.
- 31:13Speaker 4: I hope.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I hope Nicolas Cage doesn't get involved in this project
- 31:17Speaker 1: now that I've said that. Yeah, imagine that.
- 31:22Speaker 5: But they'll have somebody else play Nicolas Cage. Yeah. If
- 31:25Speaker 5: I remember how this... Okay.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Adrian Brody will play Nicolas Cage.
- 31:31Speaker 5: That'd be interesting, actually. I could see that.
- 31:35Speaker 9: My favorite thing Nicolas Cage has ever said, ever, is
- 31:38Speaker 9: it has to be from Raising Arizona, which is probably
- 31:40Speaker 9: his best movie ever.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Pretty much, yeah.
- 31:43Speaker 9: But he goes, what? We've got ourselves a family here.
- 31:47Speaker 9: There's just something so hilarious.
- 31:48Speaker 4: He's like, are you kidding me?
- 31:50Speaker 5: Yeah, the delivery. We've got ourselves a family here. The delivery.
- 31:53Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 31:54Speaker 9: I just thought that was so adorable. And if I
- 31:56Speaker 9: ever have children and my husband does not say that
- 31:59Speaker 9: the minute I give birth, we're getting divorced.
- 32:02Speaker 10: You might want to put that on a note somewhere
- 32:04Speaker 10: and make sure he knows.
- 32:06Speaker 4: It's recorded.
- 32:07Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 32:08Speaker 5: He better be a listener then, because you're in trouble otherwise.
- 32:10Speaker 14: I like the touch that he has to run in
- 32:12Speaker 14: and start the record player, the home on the range record.
- 32:15Speaker 4: I could talk about that movie for days.
- 32:17Speaker 5: Mine is a little fun, though.
- 32:18Speaker 8: I read the other day about how Nicolas Cage was
- 32:21Speaker 8: in the running to play Abraham Lincoln in Abraham Lincoln
- 32:23Speaker 8: Vampire Hunter.
- 32:25Speaker 4: That would be awesome.
- 32:26Speaker 7: I'm just trying to imagine that.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 32:29Speaker 4: Do we talk about him every episode?
- 32:31Speaker 5: I think we do. He's fun. You can't not talk
- 32:34Speaker 5: about him.
- 32:34Speaker 9: He existed at the time Abraham Lincoln was around.
- 32:37Speaker 4: That's true.
- 32:38Speaker 9: Maybe he wants to play him because he was a
- 32:40Speaker 9: personal friend.
- 32:40Speaker 4: And he is a vampire.
- 32:42Speaker 9: That's why he's... It appeals to him on many levels.
- 32:45Speaker 10: It all ties together now. This one I just thought,
- 32:49Speaker 10: they never tire of this scenario. Gerard Butler signed on
- 32:54Speaker 10: with Millennium Pictures for an action film.
- 32:57Speaker 5: Called Olympus Has Fallen. He will star as a down-on-his-luck
- 33:02Speaker 5: ex-secret service agent who becomes America's only hope when 1600
- 33:06Speaker 5: Pennsylvania Avenue is taken over by terrorists. And what is it?
- 33:10Speaker 10: Die Hard in the White House. Everything is an insert.
- 33:15Speaker 10: That's why you've got to give Die Hard credit. If
- 33:17Speaker 10: you can become that name of that movie and change
- 33:21Speaker 10: the variables, that's an important movie in cinema history.
- 33:25Speaker 4: The thing that's bothering me is similar to that trend,
- 33:29Speaker 4: but it's now.
- 33:31Speaker 14: I call it the Jason Bourne idea. Everyone is an
- 33:35Speaker 14: ex-Covert Ops, ex-CIA.
- 33:39Speaker 5: Well, I am.
- 33:40Speaker 14: That can kill anybody with their pinky. And what is
- 33:44Speaker 14: that new, I saw a preview for it, the new
- 33:49Speaker 14: Ashley Judd show.
- 33:51Speaker 13: Oh, yeah.
- 33:51Speaker 4: Where she all of a sudden is like.
- 33:53Speaker 5: You don't mess with Ashley Judd.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Everybody's Jason Bourne.
- 33:59Speaker 16: Why is she the action flick person? You'd think she'd
- 34:05Speaker 16: be more suited for romantic comedies, but they always want
- 34:07Speaker 16: to put her in these action movies.
- 34:10Speaker 5: I'm getting my daughter back, damn it. That's pretty much
- 34:13Speaker 5: how she works.
- 34:16Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 34:17Speaker 14: I'm just kind of sick of it. Everybody's trained more
- 34:21Speaker 14: than any Navy SEAL and.
- 34:24Speaker 4: Can take out everyone.
- 34:25Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 34:25Speaker 14: It's like we have superheroes, but they're just... It's like
- 34:29Speaker 14: the CIA can create superheroes with a little bit of training.
- 34:32Speaker 1: A little training.
- 34:33Speaker 5: Genetic engineering training. Isn't that what we do now?
- 34:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:37Speaker 14: If we have any of these guys, there should be
- 34:39Speaker 14: no bad guys left.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Well, we've complained about how all vampires know... martial arts
- 34:44Speaker 1: but at least that's credible they've got so much free
- 34:47Speaker 1: time i mean i would have i would have got
- 34:50Speaker 1: a black belt if i just had more you know
- 34:53Speaker 1: if i had a century or two to.
- 34:55Speaker 9: Kill here's what i don't understand why are all vampires
- 34:59Speaker 9: wealthy just because you've lived hundreds of years doesn't mean
- 35:02Speaker 9: you have more money let's.
- 35:04Speaker 11: Put it in the bank and you wait interest yeah
- 35:06Speaker 11: yeah not angel He used to eat rats.
- 35:10Speaker 5: He was cold.
- 35:11Speaker 1: He had a soul, though.
- 35:12Speaker 8: See, I was actually going to bring that up because
- 35:13Speaker 8: they come out of the ground just knowing martial arts.
- 35:15Speaker 4: They don't have.
- 35:16Speaker 5: That's true. I always called him out for that, which
- 35:19Speaker 5: was awesome. Like, it made for a good show. But
- 35:21Speaker 5: I'm just like, why are they all trained in Kung Fu?
- 35:23Speaker 8: Because the demons that infuse their... They know martial arts.
- 35:27Speaker 8: They learned it in hell or wherever.
- 35:30Speaker 4: They teach Kung Fu in hell now, don't they?
- 35:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:33Speaker 9: It's hell 101.
- 35:34Speaker 8: The hells in that show don't really seem like hell.
- 35:37Speaker 8: That one was just farmland with green people.
- 35:39Speaker 4: That sucks.
- 35:41Speaker 5: What are you talking about?
- 35:43Speaker 8: There was that one that was just suburbia where you
- 35:45Speaker 8: do the same day.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Over and over again.
- 35:47Speaker 8: That was pretty good. And then the thing we're too
- 35:50Speaker 8: hard on.
- 35:50Speaker 1: We'll say that's the Groundhog Day factor. That's how you
- 35:55Speaker 1: become wealthy is you watch the unloading of the the
- 36:01Speaker 1: Brink security truck every day and you figure out how
- 36:04Speaker 1: to just, you know, pop in, pick up. Oh, I
- 36:08Speaker 1: came so close the other day to doing that scene
- 36:12Speaker 1: from Groundhog Day, but I missed it because I was
- 36:15Speaker 1: only living the day once.
- 36:16Speaker 4: And I wasn't prepared.
- 36:18Speaker 5: You just figured out that's how that goes?
- 36:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:21Speaker 4: I didn't have 22 shots.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I was walking by Baxter's on Baxter Avenue. I
- 36:28Speaker 1: was walking my dog and as I walked by, the
- 36:30Speaker 1: windows of the restaurant are open and there was like
- 36:34Speaker 1: a pizza sitting on the table and there was a
- 36:38Speaker 1: woman who was bending down to get something out of
- 36:41Speaker 1: her purse and as I went by it was just
- 36:43Speaker 1: the perfect crime just to reach in grab the pizza
- 36:47Speaker 1: and walk on and I would have been totally gone
- 36:49Speaker 1: and around the corner but I didn't realize it until
- 36:52Speaker 1: I was around the corner And so now it's my
- 36:56Speaker 1: life goal. Whenever I walk my dog, I walk by
- 36:59Speaker 1: those windows. One of these days, it's going to be
- 37:03Speaker 1: just in sync and I'm just going to reach. And
- 37:07Speaker 1: when she gets back.
- 37:08Speaker 14: It's like the pie cooling in the window.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Yeah. It should be beautiful.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:17Speaker 5: I thought you were like, it's going to be my
- 37:18Speaker 5: life's goal to get stuck in a groundhog day scenario.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:22Speaker 5: Which, if you do, let us know.
- 37:23Speaker 8: It didn't seem so awful. He became really good at
- 37:25Speaker 8: the piano.
- 37:26Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying. There were a lot of upsides
- 37:29Speaker 5: to that situation.
- 37:29Speaker 4: You can learn martial arts that way. There you go.
- 37:31Speaker 5: It can be like a vampire.
- 37:33Speaker 10: So, okay, this last one, because this movie comes up
- 37:37Speaker 10: every week, every other week, we talk about this a lot,
- 37:40Speaker 10: and this seems, yeah, we'll let you decide.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Mostly for you, Fred. Okay.
- 37:47Speaker 10: Universal Pictures has hired screenwriters David Elliott and Paul Lovett
- 37:51Speaker 10: to work.
- 37:51Speaker 5: On Midnight Run 2.
- 37:54Speaker 9: Ah. Fun.
- 37:56Speaker 5: Will it be?
- 37:56Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 37:58Speaker 10: Well, when you add this last part, it's currently in
- 38:02Speaker 10: talks with Brett Radner to direct.
- 38:05Speaker 5: What? Brett Radner.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Didn't I go to high school with him?
- 38:10Speaker 5: Why didn't you kill him back then and save us all?
- 38:12Speaker 1: Because I dropped out.
- 38:15Speaker 5: That's no excuse, really.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Stay in school, kids.
- 38:18Speaker 14: You wish you could go back and run all day.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Stay in school so you might be able to kill
- 38:22Speaker 5: somebody useful. Isn't that how high school works now?
- 38:24Speaker 1: You just kill people? Hey, we've got a public service
- 38:28Speaker 1: announcement on our hands.
- 38:29Speaker 5: Well, bring David Lynch in.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Kids, stay in school so you can kill somebody.
- 38:34Speaker 10: But check with us and make sure who. We want
- 38:36Speaker 10: to tell you which person. So, yeah, they're saying that
- 38:42Speaker 10: they're in talks, they're probably bringing De Niro back, but
- 38:45Speaker 10: Charles Grodin, who's basically retired from acting at this point,
- 38:48Speaker 10: isn't expected to return, maybe with a cameo, probably, because,
- 38:53Speaker 10: you know.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Without him, it's kind of.
- 38:57Speaker 5: I don't know. Well, first of all, even with them.
- 38:59Speaker 5: With them, this much later... Yeah. I mean, I'm not
- 39:03Speaker 5: saying it's impossible, because they're both good actors, but... De
- 39:05Speaker 5: Niro can step a little off. Yeah, De Niro can't... Well,
- 39:08Speaker 5: but sometimes De Niro phones it in, too.
- 39:09Speaker 10: So with Brett Radner at the helm, that sounds like
- 39:12Speaker 10: a paycheck to me, so.
- 39:13Speaker 14: But it could be like a grumpy old man kind of.
- 39:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:16Speaker 4: That could be funny.
- 39:17Speaker 10: And it could, yeah, it could be good with the
- 39:19Speaker 10: two of them, again, because they're both talented, but.
- 39:22Speaker 5: Brett Ratner.
- 39:24Speaker 4: He'll do Beethoven 5, but he won't do.
- 39:28Speaker 5: That was a while ago, though.
- 39:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, but still.
- 39:30Speaker 5: I think since then he has sort of laid.
- 39:32Speaker 4: Off the acting.
- 39:32Speaker 14: He goes on David Letterman every other week.
- 39:34Speaker 4: I don't see him.
- 39:36Speaker 5: Is he still on?
- 39:36Speaker 1: I think he.
- 39:38Speaker 4: It seems like every time I watch, he's on.
- 39:42Speaker 5: That's because he's damn funny, so.
- 39:44Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 39:44Speaker 5: That was most of the ridiculous ones, so I thought
- 39:46Speaker 5: I'd throw.
- 39:47Speaker 7: It out there, so.
- 39:49Speaker 4: I have something to mention.
- 39:50Speaker 5: Okay. Quickly.
- 39:51Speaker 4: Last time we mentioned our... I don't know if it
- 39:54Speaker 4: was Alan or Bo that.
- 39:57Speaker 8: He kind of looked longingly at the empty chair there.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Yeah. He's missing, Bo.
- 40:01Speaker 4: He's out of town. They talked about the David Lynch
- 40:05Speaker 4: coffee commercial.
- 40:06Speaker 1: That was Bo.
- 40:08Speaker 4: Yeah. And I watched... I think Alan brought it on.
- 40:10Speaker 8: The other Alan.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Alan.
- 40:12Speaker 4: And the Barbie head when he.
- 40:16Speaker 14: seven minutes of him talking to a Barbie head about,
- 40:19Speaker 14: it's really good. And it's, it's, you know, like the
- 40:23Speaker 14: first 10 seconds I was like, Oh, this is going
- 40:24Speaker 14: to get old if it's this for seven minutes.
- 40:27Speaker 4: And I'm like, and I just found myself just watching
- 40:29Speaker 4: it more and more.
- 40:30Speaker 1: I know. Barbie really holds your attention. She's like Bruce
- 40:34Speaker 1: Willis in Pulp Fiction where he's given him the speech
- 40:38Speaker 1: about pride and stuff. Barbie can command that kind of
- 40:43Speaker 1: a scene.
- 40:44Speaker 4: I think it's the tilt of the head that's holding
- 40:47Speaker 4: your attention.
- 40:48Speaker 1: And you can feel the tension in his hand. He's
- 40:51Speaker 1: sort of twisting her or something. There's something going on there.
- 40:55Speaker 8: Is this on YouTube?
- 40:56Speaker 4: Yeah, it's on YouTube.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Oh, it's beautiful.
- 40:59Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll have to pull it up. I went home
- 41:02Speaker 4: and watched it. I think I watched it like three times.
- 41:05Speaker 5: Because it's so simple.
- 41:07Speaker 1: So Barbie now has got like a couple of really
- 41:10Speaker 1: good acting credits. You know, she did that Karen Carpenter.
- 41:14Speaker 5: Superstar. Yeah, she did that.
- 41:16Speaker 1: And now she's worked with David Lynch.
- 41:19Speaker 10: Well, she's got a string of straight-to-DVD movies. If you
- 41:23Speaker 10: want to count that badly CG animated girl. But if
- 41:26Speaker 10: you just want the stop-motion, some weirdo holding it.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Oh, I forgot.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Like, the kids' cable channels do those Barbie movies, and
- 41:35Speaker 1: some of them are fascinatingly weird. I saw one in
- 41:39Speaker 1: a hotel room, and I couldn't look away.
- 41:41Speaker 4: It was directed by David Lynch. What the fuck?
- 41:46Speaker 1: It was so crazy.
- 41:48Speaker 10: That was the funny thing, is how much money those made.
- 41:50Speaker 10: I remember those coming out, and, like, every week, those
- 41:53Speaker 10: moms would be in there loading up on them. Like,
- 41:57Speaker 10: this thing looks frightening, but here you go. Here she
- 41:59Speaker 10: is as whatever princess you're stealing from, you know. Every
- 42:02Speaker 10: fairy book princess she became at some point. And then
- 42:05Speaker 10: she was a doctor.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Oh, I'd forgotten all about that.
- 42:09Speaker 5: Not a mathematician, because math is hard. Yeah.
- 42:13Speaker 14: Yeah, but it's kind of disturbing. Well, not disturbing, but
- 42:19Speaker 14: it's disturbing that you watch it for that long.
- 42:21Speaker 5: And you're okay with it.
- 42:22Speaker 4: And you're okay with it, yeah.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Wait, she was also in Rango.
- 42:27Speaker 5: She was in Toy Story.
- 42:29Speaker 1: She was headless in Rango. Yeah, he was doing a
- 42:32Speaker 1: scene with her and then he said, are those real?
- 42:38Speaker 1: She never answered, but she was headless.
- 42:41Speaker 5: Does add to the challenge.
- 42:43Speaker 8: Speaking of David Lynch, did anybody hear his music CD
- 42:46Speaker 8: he put out recently?
- 42:48Speaker 1: I heard that he has.
- 42:50Speaker 5: I've heard his older stuff and seen the videos. It's
- 42:53Speaker 5: pretty crazy, but is it similar?
- 42:55Speaker 11: Is this more stuff with Julie Cruz?
- 42:56Speaker 8: No, this is just.
- 42:59Speaker 4: One.
- 42:59Speaker 8: Song had Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and
- 43:01Speaker 8: it's just him with weird synth stuff and a whole
- 43:04Speaker 8: lot of auto-tune. I enjoyed it, but I couldn't get...
- 43:08Speaker 8: threw the whole thing on one list because I started
- 43:10Speaker 8: to get really creeped out just hearing his auto-tuned voice
- 43:13Speaker 8: in my ear going on for eight minutes about dental hygiene.
- 43:16Speaker 8: I was like, this is fascinating, but I need a break.
- 43:21Speaker 10: In life, David Lynch is best in probably seven-minute segments, really.
- 43:26Speaker 10: Those three hours of him in a row that he
- 43:28Speaker 10: keeps making up these movies, he needs to realize that's
- 43:30Speaker 10: too much Lynch at one time.
- 43:32Speaker 4: I don't know, I enjoyed it.
- 43:33Speaker 5: You need to break it up a little bit.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Yeah, but something special.
- 43:38Speaker 5: He'll be in your ear whispering about it.
- 43:40Speaker 8: He totally changed.
- 43:42Speaker 4: It's like, oh yeah, how about that guy?
- 43:46Speaker 14: It just keeps talking about it. He just promotes the coffee,
- 43:50Speaker 14: but anyway, yeah, you'll have to see it.
- 43:53Speaker 4: It's different.
- 43:54Speaker 5: Interesting.
- 43:55Speaker 4: I don't know if I want to buy his coffee, but...
- 43:59Speaker 4: If he wants.
- 43:59Speaker 10: To sponsor us. We can do an episode over at
- 44:03Speaker 10: David Lynch's house. We do wander around drinking coffee.
- 44:07Speaker 8: So Has anybody, I'm sorry, this is way off topic.
- 44:10Speaker 8: Has anybody seen the drunken history videos? It's like, it's, um,
- 44:14Speaker 8: I don't remember who does it, but they're all on
- 44:16Speaker 8: YouTube and they just, they get a history majors in
- 44:19Speaker 8: college and they get them really drunk and ask them
- 44:21Speaker 8: to tell stories. And then it's reenacted with, uh, uh, with,
- 44:25Speaker 8: you know, celebrities. And, um, there's one about Abraham Lincoln.
- 44:28Speaker 8: So just go to drunken history, Abraham Lincoln.
- 44:31Speaker 4: It's the best thing.
- 44:32Speaker 7: You'll ever see.
- 44:32Speaker 1: It's funny there. Uh, My son sort of does a
- 44:36Speaker 1: version of that. He goes to a friend's house and
- 44:39Speaker 1: their parents get drunk and argue about history. And he
- 44:43Speaker 1: comes home and tells us the story and apparently they
- 44:47Speaker 1: really do not know much about history. But they will
- 44:51Speaker 1: argue with his friend's older brother about Rome and they
- 44:57Speaker 1: have no idea what they're talking about. When Rome was
- 45:01Speaker 1: invaded by the Germans and My son will come home
- 45:04Speaker 1: and tell us what the historical drunken argument was.
- 45:08Speaker 10: He just needs to start recording it. That's his own show.
- 45:12Speaker 10: I think so.
- 45:14Speaker 9: I think we've created some ideas for the best TV shows.
- 45:19Speaker 9: Better than anything Hollywood's got.
- 45:20Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 45:21Speaker 10: Each week we come up with more ridiculous and better
- 45:23Speaker 10: ideas than they ever really create.
- 45:27Speaker 8: Start a web series.
- 45:28Speaker 14: Except for Raising Hope. They come up with some of
- 45:31Speaker 14: the best shit on that show.
- 45:32Speaker 4: That's true.
- 45:33Speaker 5: It's an awesome show.
- 45:34Speaker 4: It's a very good show.
- 45:37Speaker 14: All you non-TV watchers, just take the time to watch.
- 45:40Speaker 7: Raising Hope once a week.
- 45:42Speaker 9: I mean, Martha Plimpton, I just love her so much.
- 45:44Speaker 5: I only watch about four or five shows, and that's
- 45:46Speaker 5: one of them.
- 45:47Speaker 10: So I've avoided most of the rest of the crap
- 45:49Speaker 10: on television.
- 45:52Speaker 5: Okay, I think we should.
- 45:52Speaker 10: Take a break and come back with our other crazy
- 45:55Speaker 10: stories of the week.
- 45:57Speaker 8: Don't know much about history Don't know much biology.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Don't know much about a science book.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Don't know much about the French I took.
- 46:11Speaker 1: But I do know that I love you.
- 46:14Speaker 17: And I know that if you loved me too, what
- 46:19Speaker 17: a wonderful world this would be.
- 46:23Speaker 5: Don't know much about geography. Don't know much....
- 46:29Speaker 2: Popcorn freshly popped and buttered look good sure it looks
- 46:34Speaker 2: good and it tastes even better get some now.
- 46:46Speaker 3: Last year the reader's digest took you back to the
- 46:49Speaker 3: golden days of tom sawyer now where tom sawyer ended

- 47:45Speaker 4: Rotten luck.
- 47:47Speaker 5: Filthy rotten luck. The only kind of luck I ever had.
- 47:52Speaker 3: Harvey Korman and David Wayne as those lovable scoundrels, the
- 47:56Speaker 3: Duke of Bilgewater and the King of France.

- 48:02Speaker 3: So take the whole family to watch the fun.
- 48:07Speaker 1: The feuds.
- 48:08Speaker 3: We're going to kill us some shamans tonight.
- 48:10Speaker 1: The friendships.
- 48:12Speaker 4: God bless you.
- 48:14Speaker 3: That make Huckleberry Finn the greatest of all American adventure stories.

- 50:41Speaker 18: Answered in the movies.
- 50:46Speaker 12: And now, on with the show. Drifting in wild life
- 50:57Speaker 12: And still you're.
- 50:58Speaker 9: Wondering now.
- 51:04Speaker 4: We were on the top I know it was thin.
- 51:07Speaker 18: We were only young And the world would have wanted
- 51:10Speaker 18: Communication lost And it turned into great style Shut up.
- 51:19Speaker 5: From this song In.
- 51:20Speaker 9: The air.
- 51:22Speaker 11: We're beginning Going out to the.
- 51:25Speaker 17: Big screen I keep looking at this screen and wondering
- 51:42Speaker 17: what it must be like to direct a Flash Gordon episode.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 51:46Speaker 9: Wow.
- 51:47Speaker 8: I wonder if there was ever any time in which
- 51:48Speaker 8: this was actually considered exciting. It's going to push each
- 51:51Speaker 8: other around.
- 51:52Speaker 9: Once when I was younger.
- 51:53Speaker 1: I liked The Rockman.
- 51:55Speaker 16: My first boyfriend's dad was obsessed with making us watch
- 52:00Speaker 16: Flesh Gordon, which I look back.
- 52:02Speaker 5: That seems inappropriate for children.
- 52:04Speaker 9: I look back on it, it does seem kind of inappropriate.
- 52:07Speaker 5: But, yeah, he was, like, obsessed.
- 52:09Speaker 9: He thought it was the funniest thing ever. He wasn't
- 52:11Speaker 9: a smart man. He wasn't a smart man. But he was, like,
- 52:16Speaker 9: obsessed with making.
- 52:17Speaker 5: Us watch that.
- 52:19Speaker 4: Making people watch Flash Gordon.
- 52:21Speaker 5: That's almost child abuse. Yeah, there's... Change amounts to child abuse.
- 52:25Speaker 9: Yeah. Now I feel awkward for even telling that story.
- 52:29Speaker 5: Yeah, you should.
- 52:30Speaker 9: It's been on my radar.
- 52:31Speaker 8: Because my wife went over our phone to be, like,
- 52:35Speaker 8: two of them. smoke things that totally aren't illegal and
- 52:40Speaker 8: rent old porn.
- 52:41Speaker 9: That's what makes a happy marriage.
- 52:46Speaker 1: It was great.
- 52:46Speaker 8: We watched Deep Throat, which was a lot of fun.
- 52:49Speaker 8: Debbie Does to Alice is a favorite.
- 52:51Speaker 5: Those were classy pictures.
- 52:52Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 52:54Speaker 8: If the porn doesn't have enough plot, then I'm not pleased.
- 52:57Speaker 8: My favorite was Alice in Wonderland, the adult musical.
- 53:00Speaker 13: Nice.
- 53:00Speaker 8: Where do you find these? Well, I don't really.
- 53:04Speaker 18: Okay.
- 53:04Speaker 9: No.
- 53:07Speaker 8: Found us a collection of old erotic cartoons as well,
- 53:13Speaker 8: which was actually really exciting because we went to Paris
- 53:16Speaker 8: two summers ago and went to the Museum of Erotic Art,
- 53:18Speaker 8: which was the only museum we went to in Paris.
- 53:21Speaker 5: I think you're doing it wrong.
- 53:22Speaker 10: I'm pretty sure that's not how it goes when you
- 53:25Speaker 10: go to Paris.
- 53:26Speaker 8: And on this one TV screen, they had just... vintage corn,
- 53:30Speaker 8: and there was this really crazy cartoon, and I found
- 53:32Speaker 8: this DVD collection of these things, of Wild and Wooly,
- 53:34Speaker 8: and it was very exciting.
- 53:38Speaker 14: I picture Fred, after hearing that, that's the only place
- 53:41Speaker 14: that you went, I picture Fred and his family going,
- 53:44Speaker 14: I pictured it smaller than that.
- 53:46Speaker 4: I pictured it bigger.
- 53:48Speaker 5: Well, it's a whole different conversation.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Now we know why she's smiling.
- 53:54Speaker 4: Got a point.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I've seen the I think I may
- 53:59Speaker 1: have on VHS the collection of erotic cartoons.
- 54:05Speaker 8: The one specifically, because I was too far gone to remember,
- 54:08Speaker 8: Slimbo was this little guy named Ever Ready and his
- 54:11Speaker 8: penis kept falling off.
- 54:14Speaker 13: Wow.
- 54:14Speaker 3: That sounds disturbing.
- 54:15Speaker 4: It's more like a nightmare.
- 54:17Speaker 8: It was amazing.
- 54:18Speaker 5: He does not seem Ever Ready at all.
- 54:21Speaker 8: It was Ever Ready Hard On.
- 54:23Speaker 5: I don't think so. Not like that.
- 54:27Speaker 1: There is something charming about antique porn. You notice the
- 54:30Speaker 1: people in it tend to be a little smilier and funnier.
- 54:35Speaker 1: I always think porn is sort of weird and depressing
- 54:39Speaker 1: if the people never laugh. You just can't relate to them.
- 54:45Speaker 1: They have no sense of how funny it is.
- 54:48Speaker 5: The creepy ones are.
- 54:49Speaker 10: Well, no, what I realized is the silent era versions.
- 54:54Speaker 5: And then watching it, I'm like, It's the same thing.
- 54:57Speaker 5: Nothing has changed.
- 54:58Speaker 11: In the silent era when they're all wearing their socks
- 55:01Speaker 11: in case they were raided so they could run. And
- 55:03Speaker 11: the guys are always wearing fake beards. It gets funny.
- 55:06Speaker 10: Things haven't changed in that department in a long, long time.
- 55:09Speaker 10: It's pretty much the same.
- 55:10Speaker 9: Yesterday my boyfriend, for some reason, we weren't talking about
- 55:13Speaker 9: porn or watching porn. We were getting ready to go
- 55:15Speaker 9: play laser tag. And he goes, have you ever noticed
- 55:18Speaker 9: that people in porns are always wearing their shoes? And
- 55:22Speaker 9: I was like, No, I don't really watch porn.
- 55:24Speaker 11: The camera usually doesn't get down that far.
- 55:27Speaker 5: That's not what they're focusing on.
- 55:28Speaker 11: Just in case there's a knock on the door.
- 55:30Speaker 5: That's true.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Or you ever see the camera pan around and there
- 55:34Speaker 1: are people in the other room having lunch? That's great.
- 55:44Speaker 5: I'm not even going to go any further.
- 55:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:46Speaker 5: All right.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Welcome to the porn podcast.
- 55:50Speaker 9: I'm sure that exists somewhere, though.
- 55:52Speaker 5: There's plenty of them.
- 55:54Speaker 10: Does anybody else have other geek activities they would like
- 55:57Speaker 10: to go into?
- 55:58Speaker 11: Last night, my six-year-old woke up at 1.30 in the morning,
- 56:01Speaker 11: and we decided to watch Troll Hunter.
- 56:04Speaker 5: All right.
- 56:05Speaker 4: So that was cool.
- 56:05Speaker 1: That was really cool.
- 56:06Speaker 5: Had you seen it before?
- 56:08Speaker 11: Only parts of it. I'd never watched the whole film,
- 56:10Speaker 11: and she got into it.
- 56:11Speaker 4: Yeah, it was fun.
- 56:13Speaker 5: I've heard the CG is pretty good for as low
- 56:15Speaker 5: budget as it is.
- 56:15Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. It's fun. It's a great movie. It's fun.
- 56:18Speaker 11: Oh, yeah, we're up from 1.30 to 3.30 watching Troll Hunter.
- 56:23Speaker 5: Was mom okay with that?
- 56:24Speaker 7: She didn't know.
- 56:25Speaker 5: That's what I thought. Sneaking the kid out.
- 56:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:31Speaker 5: Anybody else?
- 56:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I felt like I had a backlog of stuff
- 56:35Speaker 1: I've seen.
- 56:36Speaker 5: That's why I figured this week we could throw it open.
- 56:38Speaker 1: But now this week that we're getting around to it,
- 56:41Speaker 1: I can't think of a fucking thing.
- 56:42Speaker 10: That's why I told you to hang on until last week.
- 56:45Speaker 1: I can think of a few things. We watched The
- 56:50Speaker 1: Big Sleep the other night.
- 56:51Speaker 5: Oh, awesome.
- 56:54Speaker 11: Did you understand it?
- 56:56Speaker 1: No, the whole plot thing, it just gets out of hand.
- 57:00Speaker 1: And it's credited to Faulkner, but I think that's bullshit
- 57:04Speaker 1: because I know he never learned how to write for film.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Because he would write three pages of dialogue. Like somebody
- 57:12Speaker 1: would just talk for 20 minutes, and you can't do that.
- 57:17Speaker 1: But I remember he had said that he would see
- 57:19Speaker 1: lines of his appear in movies he'd never heard of.
- 57:23Speaker 1: He was like, I wrote that somewhere in there. Like
- 57:26Speaker 1: they were just in the studio.
- 57:28Speaker 10: Cutting and pasting.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Before computers existed.
- 57:32Speaker 11: Good to have his name in the credits so they
- 57:34Speaker 11: just reach into the bag and pull out a good line.
- 57:37Speaker 4: I love the big sleeve, but it doesn't add up.
- 57:39Speaker 1: I read that Chandler was an oil executive. and decided
- 57:45Speaker 1: to write mysteries when he was 45.
- 57:48Speaker 5: It's never too late. There's hope. We can always Grandma
- 57:52Speaker 5: Moses and turn things around. Yeah. Just keep hanging in there.
- 57:56Speaker 4: Someday you'll figure it out.
- 57:57Speaker 1: I've got to provide more cooling to the container.
- 58:00Speaker 5: All righty, you do that.
- 58:02Speaker 8: I have something I could talk about if we want to,
- 58:04Speaker 8: but it's not urgent. So I got on kind of
- 58:07Speaker 8: this little Peter Greenaway kick. He did The Cook, the Thief,
- 58:09Speaker 8: His Wife, and Her Lover, which is one of my
- 58:11Speaker 8: favorite movies.
- 58:11Speaker 9: Great movie.
- 58:12Speaker 8: So I rewatched a movie I'd seen years ago called
- 58:14Speaker 8: The Pillow Book.
- 58:16Speaker 4: The Pillow Book.
- 58:17Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 58:18Speaker 8: It's basically about this Japanese woman who enjoys having men
- 58:21Speaker 8: write calligraphy on her. So she's trying to find the
- 58:23Speaker 8: perfect man who's equal parts calligrapher and lover.
- 58:29Speaker 5: It's good to have a hobby.
- 58:30Speaker 11: Was it Ewan McGregor?
- 58:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:33Speaker 8: He definitely gets all the way naked.
- 58:34Speaker 11: That may have been the last thing Greenaway got released.
- 58:38Speaker 8: No, in 2007 he put out Nightwatching.
- 58:41Speaker 4: See, I didn't see that.
- 58:42Speaker 8: I haven't seen it yet either.
- 58:43Speaker 11: He literally went mad for a while. He was put away,
- 58:46Speaker 11: and then I think he came out and they put
- 58:48Speaker 11: one of his movies. I always loved his stuff.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:51Speaker 8: So I followed that up with another one of his films.
- 58:53Speaker 8: It's called A Zed and Two Knots.
- 58:54Speaker 11: Yeah, that's a cool movie.
- 58:56Speaker 8: Yeah, about these two zoologists whose wives die, so they
- 59:00Speaker 8: become obsessed with decomposition, and they start just setting up
- 59:03Speaker 8: time-lapse videos of things.
- 59:06Speaker 10: Decomposing, and it's... They call me morbid when I.
- 59:10Speaker 7: i.
- 59:12Speaker 5: It's a it's it's a hobby what do.
- 59:13Speaker 8: You want so that's what i've been watching.
- 59:15Speaker 10: Well i saw um i don't know if any of
- 59:18Speaker 10: you guys are familiar with shut up little man No.
- 59:22Speaker 10: I heard about it when it very first hit the, which, again,
- 59:25Speaker 10: was only about three or four months.
- 59:27Speaker 5: Ago when it first sort of started hit the festival circuit.
- 59:30Speaker 10: And it's a documentary that basically it's like early 90s,
- 59:36Speaker 10: and these guys were from, I don't know, Midwest or somewhere,
- 59:39Speaker 10: and they decided, hey, let's move out to California, and
- 59:41Speaker 10: they were friends, so they're like, okay, let's both go.
- 59:44Speaker 10: They move out, I think, to San Francisco, and they
- 59:48Speaker 10: don't have any money, so they end up in this
- 59:49Speaker 10: terrible little apartment. and the usual paper-thin walls, and as
- 59:55Speaker 10: the lady's giving them the key after they've already decided
- 59:58Speaker 10: to take.
- 59:58Speaker 5: The place, she's like, oh, and the neighbors next door,
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: they can get kind of loud. Little did they know
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: what they were in for.
- 1:00:05Speaker 10: Basically, these two people that live next door just screaming
- 1:00:10Speaker 10: at each other constantly. It's two guys, and all they
- 1:00:14Speaker 10: do is fight, and they're usually drunk most of the day.
- 1:00:18Speaker 10: I don't know that either of them has a job.
- 1:00:20Speaker 10: One definitely never leaves the house. The other one goes
- 1:00:22Speaker 10: out to buy liquor. And all they do is argue
- 1:00:26Speaker 10: and fight. And one of them seems sort of flamboyant.
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: And his line is constantly to the other, Shut up,
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: little man. Shut up, little man.
- 1:00:38Speaker 10: That is his comeback to everything this man says. He
- 1:00:41Speaker 10: says it constantly. The other one seems.
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: To be completely....
- 1:00:47Speaker 10: Homophobic perhaps he's constantly talking about and again this was
- 1:00:50Speaker 10: i'm surprised that his his word is usually the queers
- 1:00:53Speaker 10: the queers need to die and you know you shut
- 1:00:56Speaker 10: up you're a queer but these guys are living together
- 1:00:59Speaker 10: and the more they fight they fight like a couple
- 1:01:01Speaker 10: i mean they really so i don't know if there's
- 1:01:03Speaker 10: a little like self-loathing going on and they really are
- 1:01:06Speaker 10: they they're trying to explore that as this goes on
- 1:01:09Speaker 10: but basically again we still haven't gotten to where these
- 1:01:11Speaker 10: two guys get.
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: Involved So midway in, you know, they're living there. They're like,
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: this is terrible. We've got to do something about this.
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: So one of them goes over there, and he's, like,
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: banging on the door. And he's like, you guys need
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: to shut up. You're always fighting. You know, it's too loud.
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: And he's just, like, drunk. Answers the door, and he's like,
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: fuck you. I'll fucking kill you. And, like, the kid's, like,
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: you know, 20 years old. He's like, okay. And he, like, leaves.
- 1:01:35Speaker 10: So there's not really anything they can officially do about it.
- 1:01:38Speaker 10: So I like this because this is 20-year-old, just got
- 1:01:41Speaker 10: her own apartment logic.
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: Let's record them.
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: No.
- 1:01:45Speaker 10: They take a microphone, tape it onto a ski pole.
- 1:01:50Speaker 10: They're like the next window over to them and it's
- 1:01:53Speaker 10: always open. So they weren't getting enough noise through the wall.
- 1:01:56Speaker 10: They put it around the corner and into their window
- 1:01:59Speaker 10: and just start taping them.
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: And that's where, I mean, it takes off. So you
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: actually get audio. They have like.
- 1:02:05Speaker 10: 40 continuous hours of this fighting that they have over
- 1:02:09Speaker 10: the years.
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: And it is some of the.
- 1:02:12Speaker 10: Craziest stuff you will ever hear people go off about.
- 1:02:15Speaker 10: Some of the most ridiculous bickering. And again, they're bickering over,
- 1:02:19Speaker 10: you know, paying the bills. Or, you know, I made
- 1:02:21Speaker 10: dinner and you didn't come home. I mean, like, this
- 1:02:23Speaker 10: is couple fighting.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: It's so weird.
- 1:02:26Speaker 10: And there's this other weird third guy that sometimes lives
- 1:02:29Speaker 10: there and sometimes doesn't. And it's the strangest thing. So,
- 1:02:33Speaker 10: I mean, that in itself is kind of interesting. But
- 1:02:36Speaker 10: then I didn't... There's this whole other thing that sprung
- 1:02:39Speaker 10: up that I don't really remember going on.
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: I don't know if maybe some of you guys do.
- 1:02:43Speaker 10: But there was this whole little world that came up.
- 1:02:47Speaker 10: It found this audience. And this was pre-internet. So they
- 1:02:51Speaker 10: started making mixtapes. And they would put little snippets of them.
- 1:02:55Speaker 10: Shut up, little man, in between songs. And then their
- 1:02:58Speaker 10: friends would hear it and go, what is that? And
- 1:02:59Speaker 10: then they'd make them a copy of them fighting. And
- 1:03:02Speaker 10: then they started actually making versions of it.
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: And eventually, again.
- 1:03:06Speaker 10: Tapes do. They started making their way from one person
- 1:03:09Speaker 10: to the next. So it was this weird little underground
- 1:03:12Speaker 10: thing where all these people had copies of it.
- 1:03:17Speaker 11: Kind of like the red tapes?
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: What was the other one it was reminding me of?
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: I don't know. There was another thing that was sort
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: of pre-internet. Or the Winnebago Man.
- 1:03:27Speaker 10: That same thing where it caught on and pre-internet found
- 1:03:31Speaker 10: a way to get from one person to the other.
- 1:03:34Speaker 10: And yeah, so it started turning up like there's two
- 1:03:38Speaker 10: or three bands. Like I think Devo samples part of
- 1:03:41Speaker 10: it in one of their songs at the time.
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: One of the other bands does too. There's a couple
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: of bands that sampled it.
- 1:03:47Speaker 10: Then like all these other people started, like all these
- 1:03:49Speaker 10: cartoonists started doing these like very crumb-esque drawings of them
- 1:03:54Speaker 10: that are very similar to that style of trying to
- 1:03:56Speaker 10: imagine what these two guys look like and they're fighting
- 1:03:59Speaker 10: and Yeah, I mean, just that whole world that sprung up.
- 1:04:01Speaker 10: Then there was somebody made it into a play and
- 1:04:04Speaker 10: was doing this off-Broadway play, dramatizing and elaborating on this craziness.
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: And what else? I mean, then at one point, like,
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: this goes on. Like, that's the part that becomes fascinating
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: is this little world that, like, and.
- 1:04:18Speaker 10: Then they started, like, making actual copies of the tape and, like,
- 1:04:20Speaker 10: sending it out to people. And they had, like, ads
- 1:04:22Speaker 10: in the back of magazines because, you know, they had
- 1:04:24Speaker 10: a T-shirt with Shut Up Little Man on it.
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: Like, they had found this weird little pop culture niche.
- 1:04:29Speaker 10: And they just, like, totally settled into it. And all
- 1:04:33Speaker 10: these people started... At one point, there were three different
- 1:04:35Speaker 10: groups of people trying to make a movie out of this.
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: Wow. So this is the documentary.
- 1:04:40Speaker 10: But they wanted to make actual fictionalized story of these
- 1:04:43Speaker 10: two guys. And it was, you know, three different people
- 1:04:45Speaker 10: working on projects at the same time.
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: So that.
- 1:04:48Speaker 10: I mean, and that's... I'm just, like, midway into it
- 1:04:50Speaker 10: at this point. So it's definitely worth watching. It was
- 1:04:53Speaker 10: on Netflix at least, you know, a couple weeks ago.
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: And it is... It is worth watching.
- 1:04:57Speaker 11: I want to see that.
- 1:04:58Speaker 10: It's not as action-packed as even a lot of documentaries
- 1:05:02Speaker 10: because most of what they have is just audio.
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: So it's a lot of them just sort of showing
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: photos of them as goofy 20-year-olds. So as it goes.
- 1:05:12Speaker 10: Further in, they get a little more footage when they
- 1:05:14Speaker 10: realize they're making it or they found other people that
- 1:05:16Speaker 10: went and talked to people and got footage. So The
- 1:05:20Speaker 10: first half of it's a little slow because it's just
- 1:05:21Speaker 10: these two guys now talking.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: About what they were doing back in the day when
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: they were kids.
- 1:05:25Speaker 10: But it's interesting how it unfolds with the characters. You
- 1:05:30Speaker 10: do start to get a little more of a feel
- 1:05:32Speaker 10: of who these guys were. And then how that whole
- 1:05:36Speaker 10: movement of people sort of took off and ran with
- 1:05:40Speaker 10: an idea.
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: And it's weird that it was these guys' actual life.
- 1:05:43Speaker 10: So it plays on some pretty interesting things that, yeah,
- 1:05:46Speaker 10: it's definitely worth watching.
- 1:05:47Speaker 14: I wonder if they made an actual movie out of
- 1:05:50Speaker 14: it where it's their characters. If those guys would be
- 1:05:54Speaker 14: entitled to a writer's credit for all of the.
- 1:05:58Speaker 10: Well, then you get into that legal area of is
- 1:06:01Speaker 10: it legal to be... I mean, if it's coming through
- 1:06:03Speaker 10: the wall, I guess it's legal. If you're going around
- 1:06:06Speaker 10: into their window, is it now not legal? Then in
- 1:06:09Speaker 10: the initial run, they put it out and they put
- 1:06:11Speaker 10: on there because, again, they were like, hey, we're cool kids.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: We're just putting this out there for fun.
- 1:06:16Speaker 10: If you want to use this for any artistic purposes,
- 1:06:18Speaker 10: feel free, just, you know, write to us and let
- 1:06:20Speaker 10: us know.
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: So we know where all it's going.
- 1:06:22Speaker 10: And then a few years later when they're like selling
- 1:06:24Speaker 10: those tapes, they copyright it. So can you copyright something
- 1:06:28Speaker 10: that you previously put out there free? You know, it's
- 1:06:31Speaker 10: like it gets into some weird legal issues. So yeah, it's,
- 1:06:35Speaker 10: it's interesting from a lot of different issues too.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: At last I heard there's no federal privacy law. It's
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: all state by state.
- 1:06:44Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: And it's generally pretty amorphous. And in this situation, it's
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: a big thing for people to fight about.
- 1:06:53Speaker 11: And if they fought that hard, they may both be dead.
- 1:06:55Speaker 10: Well, they go and kind of track them down and
- 1:06:59Speaker 10: try to see what all happened. And at one point,
- 1:07:00Speaker 10: they are like, okay, we're going to give you a
- 1:07:03Speaker 10: residual check. It's kind of sorry how that goes. The
- 1:07:07Speaker 10: amount is so ridiculous. So, yeah, it's definitely worth watching.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: It turns out it was Jay and Silent Bob.
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: The whole time. No, because you can hear both of
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: them fighting. They both kind of sound like Jay. They
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: just run in their mouth constantly.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: For a while when I lived in Virginia, I worked
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: this job where I printed photos all night, like thousands
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: of photos, speed printing from, And during that time, my
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: neighbors were these guys who watched sports all day. And
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: they would make the sports noises like, oh. But then
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: all the rest of it was that motherfucker, and then
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: that motherfucker, and then that motherfucker, and then that motherfucker.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: And I would be trying to sleep, but I couldn't
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: parse the relationships of the motherfuckers. I couldn't not hear it. Wait,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: is that the same motherfucker? This is a different motherfucker.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Which motherfucker? Could they, like, number the motherfuckers so.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: I can keep track of them?
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: It's like trying to follow the big sleep.
- 1:08:16Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: The motherfucker with the hat.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: God, that was nightmarish. And then a radio station was
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: giving out my phone number.
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: It was like.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: They were doing telemarketing calls. Call our station. You may
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: have won something. Making people think they'd won a car.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: And then he sort of mumbles the phone number, because
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: I got the call one day. People kept calling me.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I was like, why are people calling me? And then
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I got the telemarketing call that gave me the impression
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: I'd won something. And it tells me to call that...
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: That sounds like my number. They're giving out my number.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: And I called the guy, and I got the guy
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: in the recorded message. And he had a speech impediment.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: He said, well, it costs thousands of dollars to make that.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: We can't change that.
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: And I'm like, dude.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: So I had to start telling people they'd want a
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: car and to come down. At first I started warming
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: up by saying.
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: Caller number four, you're on the air.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: No matter how asleep I was, I could get.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: Up and go, caller number four, you're on the air.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: And then there'd be the silence and it'd be awkward.
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: Turn down your radio. Turn down your radio.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: So that was a period of my life.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 1:09:35Speaker 14: There are people out there still believing that they want
- 1:09:37Speaker 14: a car.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: Still waiting for that car to be rolling up.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: The call stopped shortly after I started.
- 1:09:44Speaker 14: Giving away cars.
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09:45Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: No, come on down. Take your pick. We keep them
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: in our parking lot.
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: Any car on the lot. Just go up and take it.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: But that reminds me of something else I just discovered
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: on Netflix recently. I hadn't heard of Creature Comfort.
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: They take these recorded interviews with random people and then
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: the Wallace and Gromit guy animates them.
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: I've heard of it.
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: I don't think I've watched it.
- 1:10:13Speaker 11: They used to run those in the animation festivals. Some
- 1:10:15Speaker 11: of the first stuff they did.
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: It's funny. Very funny stuff.
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: He's always, Nick Park's always pretty damn funny. All right.
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: Does that round out our geek activities this week? No.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: Marlene is nodding into the microphone.
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: That says it all, I think.
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: Again.
- 1:10:32Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:10:33Speaker 16: Yep.
- 1:10:33Speaker 9: I do that.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: All right. And with that, I will say, okay, kids,
- 1:10:37Speaker 5: get out your decoder pins.
- 1:10:38Speaker 9: Oh, yeah.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:10:42Speaker 9: That doesn't, I mean.
- 1:10:46Speaker 10: It gets better every time we.
- 1:10:50Speaker 9: Need a catchphrase that makes a sound so we can
- 1:10:53Speaker 9: like at least make.
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: A sound That's pretty standard for this episode.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: They come wrapped in this loud plastic wrap.
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: We've been getting out decoder pins the whole episode.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Somebody needs to get out their decoder pins.
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: Somebody needs to not have any more cookies.
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: I could tell that tonight's message was really important.
- 1:11:11Speaker 10: It is time for the Movie Outdown Secret Circle reveal
- 1:11:13Speaker 10: of the next exciting feature. And this is going to
- 1:11:15Speaker 10: be exciting because it's a huge ordeal. It's a massive thing. And,
- 1:11:20Speaker 10: you know, one of the best movies ever. We will
- 1:11:22Speaker 10: be doing the thing super special. Now, officially, we're going
- 1:11:26Speaker 10: to be discussing our sofa theater feature is the thing
- 1:11:30Speaker 10: from 2011. Some people have issues with that. Anyway, we
- 1:11:35Speaker 10: will also tie in the John Carpenter thing, the original
- 1:11:40Speaker 10: 1951 thing.
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: The John Carpenter thing?
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: That's it.
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: I'm done.
- 1:11:45Speaker 10: And some of the nerdier people here might have read
- 1:11:48Speaker 10: the original short story. So if you're into who goes there,
- 1:11:51Speaker 10: we might bring that up too.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: If it's not one thing, it's another.
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:11:57Speaker 10: So I say come back for the super thing special
- 1:12:01Speaker 10: because it's going to kick ass. So go watch every
- 1:12:03Speaker 10: version of the thing that has ever been created and
- 1:12:06Speaker 10: come back next time.
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: Or go watch Cardinals.
- 1:12:08Speaker 11: Or Howard Hawks.
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: Howard Hawks.
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: Can't go wrong. Otherwise, that about does it. We will
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: return next week. Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: for listening.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: You put them in the oven about a quarter hour.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: But the thing that gives them their magic power is
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: the chocolate chips inside. Chocolate chip cookies, I gotta have more.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: You can bake them in the oven or buy them
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: at the store. But whatever you do, have them ready
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: at the door. And I'll love you till I die.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: I can do without booze. I can do without pot.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: I can do without nicotine, no thanks a lot. But
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: bring them from the oven, nice and hot. And I'm
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: a chocolate chip cookie fiend. Chocolate chip cookies, I gotta
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: have more. You can bake them in the oven or
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: buy them at the store. But whatever you do, have
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: them ready at the door. And I'll love you till
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: I die. You can't eat one, you can't eat two.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: Once you start chewing, there's nothing to do But clean
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: your plate, eat the crumbs too Then go and find
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: some more Chocolate chip cookies, I gotta have more You
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: can bake them in the oven or buy them at
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: the store But whatever you do, have them ready at
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: the door And I'll love you till I die If
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: you want to make a friend You don't need beauty
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: or money to lend. Give them all your love, but
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: be sure you send some chocolate chip cookies too. Chocolate
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: chip cookies, I gotta have more. You can bake them
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: in the oven or buy them at the store. But
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: whatever you do, have them ready at the door. And
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: I'll love you till I die. I knew a little
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: woman once upon a time. Ugliest sin and she didn't
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: have a dime. I was just gonna leave her, but
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: she changed my mind. She made those cookies for me.
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: Chocolate chip cookies, I gotta have more. You can bake
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: them in the oven or buy them at the store.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: But whatever you do, have them ready at the door.
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: And I'll love you till I die. I knew another woman,
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: pretty as a star. Had a lot of money and
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: a big sports car. But I had to leave her.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: That's the way things are. She couldn't make cookies for me.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Chocolate chip cookies.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: I gotta have more.
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: You can bake them in the oven or buy them
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: at the store. But whatever you do, have them ready
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: at the door. And I'll love you till I die.
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: When it comes to women, you must be wise. Sometimes
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: you have to compromise i finally met a girl who
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: was just my size so i made cookies for her
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: chocolate chip cookies i gotta have more you can bake
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: them in the oven or buy them at the store
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: but whatever you do have them ready at the door
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: and i'll love you till i die Now when I die,
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: I don't want wings, a golden halo or a harp
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: that sings. Give me a book, a fire, and someone
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: that brings me chocolate chip cookies all day. Chocolate chip cookies,
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: I gotta have more. You can bake them in the
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: oven or buy them at the store. But whatever you do,
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: have them ready at the door. And I'll love you
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: till I die.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: And it reminded me, it was the same thing, I
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: couldn't keep up with the stories. And I was trying,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: there was a point when I was trying to make
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: a short film based on this called The Motherfuckers.
- 1:16:16Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: You can put that on the market.
- 1:16:18Speaker 7: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
- 1:16:21Speaker 7: edited by the Auditude Studios, with opening music performed by
- 1:16:24Speaker 7: the Empires. For more on how to sponsor or support
