- 1:56Speaker 5: here coming up a little bit later on. You know,
- 1:58Speaker 5: we'd like to have fun on the show, but today
- 2:00Speaker 5: we have to get a little bit serious and as
- 2:02Speaker 5: you know, probably hit someone in your family, your workplace,
- 2:05Speaker 5: a neighbor, church, whatever. There's several with the Alzheimer's. Many
- 2:09Speaker 5: times it can be more difficult on the family members
- 2:11Speaker 5: and friends, or just as difficult as it is on
- 2:13Speaker 5: the people suffering from it. We're going to talk to
- 2:16Speaker 5: someone who knows a whole lot about it, sharing Covert
- 2:19Speaker 5: from the Alzheimer's Association. They've actually got three walks scheduled,
- 2:23Speaker 5: the walk to in Alzheimer's one and Huntington won in Morgantown.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Have wanted here in Charleston would talk to her about that. Also,
- 2:29Speaker 5: last night, the Canaw County Board of Education had yet
- 2:31Speaker 5: another meeting concerning the school closing or consolidation. The decision
- 2:34Speaker 5: made to close Bell Elementary, that is, if the SBA
- 2:40Speaker 5: approves funding for a new school. I'm going to break
- 2:42Speaker 5: all that down for you. That meeting held last night
- 2:44Speaker 5: at Riverside High School and more meetings are going to
- 2:47Speaker 5: come on that. Plus our man Rob Reel speaking of walking,
- 2:50Speaker 5: as I was earlier, our man Rob Reel is set
- 2:53Speaker 5: to tomorrow in bark upon a walk from eleven to
- 2:56Speaker 5: eleven Virginia Street East and Charleston to Morgantown. He's going
- 3:00Speaker 5: to be walking to deliver a check for WVU Children's
- 3:03Speaker 5: The listeners of WVRC Media Charleston and all of our
- 3:06Speaker 5: stations around the state were able to raise the allotted money.
- 3:10Speaker 5: He actually even bey on that, and so Rob valed
- 3:12Speaker 5: that if that, if you raised enough money for WVU
- 3:15Speaker 5: Children's that he would walk from our studios in Charleston
- 3:19Speaker 5: to WU Children's Hospital in Morgantown. He leaves tomorrow morning,
- 3:24Speaker 5: should arrive on Halloween. He's getting prepared for the walk.

- 3:40Speaker 5: the show. Good friend Millie Snyder from the Shape Shop. Milly,
- 3:43Speaker 5: good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 3:44Speaker 6: Good morning, David. Is so nice to be in these
- 3:47Speaker 6: new digs. It is just gorgeous.
- 3:49Speaker 5: The only issue that I have with this is that
- 3:52Speaker 5: I can't see you because Millie, how can I put
- 3:55Speaker 5: this nicely? You're you're kind of small stature in height
- 4:01Speaker 5: as am I.
- 4:02Speaker 6: Thank you, thank you for pointing that out.
- 4:05Speaker 5: I can only see the top of your head at
- 4:07Speaker 5: this point.
- 4:08Speaker 6: Well, actually that's all you really need. But the big
- 4:11Speaker 6: question is since you can't see all of me, Am,
- 4:13Speaker 6: I having a good hair.
- 4:14Speaker 5: You're having a wonderful hair day. Thank you. That's all
- 4:17Speaker 5: that is important here. So what do you think of
- 4:19Speaker 5: the new digs here?
- 4:19Speaker 6: Oh, they're just beautiful and I'm so excited when it
- 4:22Speaker 6: becomes I guess am I saying the words write a
- 4:25Speaker 6: simocast with TV.
- 4:27Speaker 5: Yeah, what's going to happen is is this is kind
- 4:29Speaker 5: of our temporary studio. And although it's a pretty, very beautiful,
- 4:32Speaker 5: pretty nice temporary studio. So what we're going to do
- 4:34Speaker 5: they say, maybe after the first of the year or so,
- 4:36Speaker 5: we're going to move back into our old facility. But
- 4:39Speaker 5: it's going to be a little bit different because we
- 4:41Speaker 5: will be on TV, just like Hoppy is if you
- 4:44Speaker 5: ever watch on Metro News TV or on the website,
- 4:46Speaker 5: you ever watch talk Line, and we will be on TV.
- 4:48Speaker 5: So yeah, you'll you're always lovely.
- 4:51Speaker 6: I'm going to continue with you. So then I'll have
- 4:53Speaker 6: to think about what I'm wearing then.
- 4:55Speaker 5: Exactly which barbaris Triysond shirt? You're wearing that deck?
- 4:58Speaker 6: Well, today I'm wearing my Rocky Okay, because Rocky was
- 5:01Speaker 6: my black lab that I lost in May of twenty
- 5:04Speaker 6: twenty three, and he is he was the dog of
- 5:07Speaker 6: dogs right. Well, anyway, we won't.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Oh well, look I could. I could speak all day
- 5:12Speaker 5: on Pats. As I said, I'm not much on humans,
- 5:13Speaker 5: but Pats this is a different story. So fall is
- 5:17Speaker 5: definitely here. So what is Millie Snyder's favorite season? Do
- 5:21Speaker 5: you have a favorite season?
- 5:22Speaker 6: Yes, this is This is my favorite season because I
- 5:25Speaker 6: hate snow. More importantly, I hate to shovel it and
- 5:29Speaker 6: it's but I try not to do it on my own.
- 5:31Speaker 6: I always get some help in the neighborhood. But this
- 5:34Speaker 6: is the most wonderful time of the year, and especially
- 5:37Speaker 6: when the leaves are changing, and I hope that people
- 5:40Speaker 6: are also changing with it because they need to make
- 5:44Speaker 6: some better food choices. And I know that might be
- 5:46Speaker 6: a really good segue, but you know, every day I
- 5:50Speaker 6: wonder and worry if people are giving some thought to
- 5:55Speaker 6: what they put in their mouth, and in terms of
- 6:00Speaker 6: good for you food, food that's going to serve your body.
- 6:03Speaker 6: I understand that we are locked into a certain set
- 6:07Speaker 6: of habits, but some of these habits are doing us
- 6:10Speaker 6: in I mean, if your pants could talk, they would say,
- 6:14Speaker 6: I want to stay in the closet. I don't want
- 6:17Speaker 6: to go out and be among people because it's painful.
- 6:21Speaker 6: But people don't realize that, and they continue doing what
- 6:25Speaker 6: they've always done. And there's an expression that says, if
- 6:27Speaker 6: you always do what you've always done, you'll always get
- 6:31Speaker 6: what you've always gotten. And I know it tastes good
- 6:35Speaker 6: in your mouth, but it doesn't end there. And I
- 6:40Speaker 6: want people to raise their consciousness about food choices and
- 6:45Speaker 6: what is good for your body for breakfast, for lunch,
- 6:48Speaker 6: for supper, and haven't we really been paying have we
- 6:52Speaker 6: not paid attention to some of these processed foods that
- 6:57Speaker 6: are hurting people. There's a company in virgin there's a
- 7:01Speaker 6: company out west. The company out West just recalled I
- 7:05Speaker 6: think five hundred thousand pounds of chicken or turkey. And
- 7:09Speaker 6: that worries me to the point that people just are
- 7:13Speaker 6: getting fast food and being done with it without any
- 7:16Speaker 6: thought about how they are not taking care and not
- 7:21Speaker 6: servicing their body. And I say that not because I
- 7:24Speaker 6: want people to be on a diet. I want people
- 7:27Speaker 6: to be intelligent more so about their food choices. So
- 7:33Speaker 6: the food choices number one when you read a label
- 7:36Speaker 6: and you can pronounce some of the ingredients, don't buy
- 7:40Speaker 6: it because those words are talking about what's in the
- 7:45Speaker 6: food and it's not good for you. I just want
- 7:49Speaker 6: people to pay attention, if it's possible.
- 7:51Speaker 5: I want to bring this up to you, and I
- 7:53Speaker 5: do want to remind you that Todave Allanchow one five
- 7:55Speaker 5: eighty Live is presented in part by General Hardware of
- 7:57Speaker 5: Winfield and Milton General number of Windfield, all Price, big
- 8:00Speaker 5: and small shop locally visit General Hardware WV dot com.
- 8:03Speaker 5: I want to bring this up because I started the
- 8:05Speaker 5: segment talking about merely the change of seasons, and it's
- 8:08Speaker 5: been impacted. I mean, it's been proven that when we
- 8:11Speaker 5: start to lose sunlight, whether it's in the fall season
- 8:14Speaker 5: or the when it will be changing the time here
- 8:16Speaker 5: in a couple of weeks, that when that happens, people
- 8:19Speaker 5: have a tendency to get a little bit more depressed.
- 8:22Speaker 5: And I say that because the experts tell us that
- 8:25Speaker 5: the food that you put in your mouth also in
- 8:28Speaker 5: many ways can serve as a depressant for lack of
- 8:31Speaker 5: a better term.
- 8:32Speaker 6: Absolutely, and people are not educated as to fruits and
- 8:37Speaker 6: vegetables and how foods are prepared. You know, I represent
- 8:42Speaker 6: and have been since twenty sixteen Fix It with Foods,
- 8:46Speaker 6: which is the name of my group, and we live
- 8:48Speaker 6: and learn the Mediterranean lifestyle. It is older than two
- 8:53Speaker 6: of me put together, because it's always been the way
- 8:58Speaker 6: of life in that part of the world. There are
- 9:01Speaker 6: I think one hundred and twenty two million people who
- 9:04Speaker 6: were born into eating Mediterranean style. They live longer, they
- 9:09Speaker 6: don't have sickness, their medication is practically tiny, if any
- 9:14Speaker 6: at all, because they're eating foods that are fresh, clean,
- 9:18Speaker 6: and again I want to use that word not processed,
- 9:21Speaker 6: now processed, dear, And it's that lack of knowledge. But
- 9:24Speaker 6: knowledge is available if you seek it.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Out a little bit. Got a text here for you,
- 9:29Speaker 5: says Melly. Most foods that we buy are either too
- 9:32Speaker 5: salty or too sweet. Why don't the companies back off
- 9:35Speaker 5: on the salt and sugar. Wouldn't that benefit them and
- 9:39Speaker 5: not cost them as much?
- 9:40Speaker 6: Absolutely, the less you put in it, the less it's
- 9:42Speaker 6: going to cost. But of course people are making foods
- 9:46Speaker 6: to appeal to the masses, and who really wins. Yeah,
- 9:51Speaker 6: you get the sales made. But look what we've seen
- 9:54Speaker 6: with two major companies just within the span of the
- 9:56Speaker 6: past six weeks. It's very frightening where people ought to
- 10:01Speaker 6: take a look at that. In answer to the salt
- 10:04Speaker 6: and the sugar, yes, so they need you know, the
- 10:07Speaker 6: expression less is more. Why don't they put less food?
- 10:12Speaker 6: And like at the Shape shop, if you came in
- 10:14Speaker 6: and bought a half a pound or a pound of
- 10:16Speaker 6: our chicken, or our turkey or our roast beef, it
- 10:19Speaker 6: would be just that. It would be chicken, it would
- 10:22Speaker 6: be roast beef, it would be turkey. It wouldn't be
- 10:27Speaker 6: which I've said earlier, some of those words your mouth
- 10:29Speaker 6: doesn't even go there.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Talk about those classes that you offer.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Well, I teach them on Thursday morning at nine fifteen,
- 10:36Speaker 6: Saturday morning at nine fifteen, and people love the fact
- 10:41Speaker 6: that they not only have a group support session, but
- 10:44Speaker 6: they are losing weight the smart healthy way. But it's
- 10:48Speaker 6: not about dieting. It's about taking care of yourself in
- 10:52Speaker 6: the best possible way.
- 10:54Speaker 5: I can't wait to talk to you, you know, because
- 10:56Speaker 5: over the next couple of months, you know, we have
- 10:58Speaker 5: the and you called it I think last year, would
- 11:00Speaker 5: you call it the trifecta or something like that.
- 11:01Speaker 6: Because we are starting Halloween.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Well, we have Halloween and then we have Thanksgiving, and
- 11:05Speaker 5: then we have the Christmas or Honica seasons. Uh. Coming
- 11:08Speaker 5: up in December have super Bowl and Super Bowl and
- 11:12Speaker 5: New Years New Year's Party in there as well, and
- 11:14Speaker 5: Valentie after that. So it doesn't it doesn't, it doesn't stop.
- 11:17Speaker 6: Some people don't start eating smart until around April.
- 11:20Speaker 5: First, what is your advice for Halloween? I mean, this
- 11:24Speaker 5: is a time when we send the kids, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 5: from house to house, or maybe you come out to
- 11:28Speaker 5: one of our events like Trigger Bead or one of
- 11:30Speaker 5: the trunk retreats in the area or whatever, and they're
- 11:32Speaker 5: all collecting the Snickers and the and the Hershey's and
- 11:34Speaker 5: so on and so forth. What's your advice to parents
- 11:36Speaker 5: on that? Because I mean, it's not realistic, Mellie, it's
- 11:40Speaker 5: not realistic to tell your kids you can't trick or treat.
- 11:43Speaker 6: So child comes home with a bag full and we
- 11:47Speaker 6: all have fun counting it and saying, oh look we
- 11:49Speaker 6: got this, that and the other, and then we begin
- 11:52Speaker 6: rationing it off over an extended period of time, or
- 11:55Speaker 6: also giving it away to some kids who didn't get
- 11:58Speaker 6: a big haul, but limit it last week's handout in
- 12:02Speaker 6: our Mediterranean group was actually showing the food value for
- 12:07Speaker 6: how many pieces of snickers, how many pieces of M
- 12:11Speaker 6: and M's should be considered a reasonable size, because we're
- 12:15Speaker 6: addressing that early on.
- 12:18Speaker 5: What do you get coming up soon? I know we'll do.
- 12:20Speaker 6: Today Jape shop. Food truck. Our wonderful food truck is
- 12:24Speaker 6: at Slack Place.
- 12:25Speaker 5: Yes, food truck Wednesday.
- 12:27Speaker 6: Yeah, and the weather is good. So if you want
- 12:30Speaker 6: some really delicious wraps or panninis, we've got you covered
- 12:35Speaker 6: and we'd love you to come out. We're going to
- 12:37Speaker 6: be there. I think we start serving at ten thirty
- 12:40Speaker 6: or eleven and we're there till about two o'clock today.
- 12:44Speaker 6: And if you don't want to go to the food truck,
- 12:45Speaker 6: we're at seven oh six Central Avenue on the west
- 12:49Speaker 6: side of Charleston.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Charleston's Charleston's Best said, really, it's always a pleasure to
- 12:53Speaker 5: have you here. Thanks a lot, dear, and thank you
- 12:54Speaker 5: for next time that you come back. Now, I'd say
- 12:57Speaker 5: probably the next couple of months will still be in
- 12:59Speaker 5: this studio. I really would have thought you would have
- 13:01Speaker 5: at least presented us with a fruit basket or something,
- 13:03Speaker 5: you know, I like a Hokay, I'll.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Tell you next month when I come, I'll bring you
- 13:07Speaker 6: the best muffins you ever put in your mouth.
- 13:10Speaker 5: The problem is, though, is that they will not let
- 13:13Speaker 5: us have food or drink in the studio, so you'll
- 13:15Speaker 5: have to leave them outside with Ron Hughes. What could
- 13:17Speaker 5: go wrong?
- 13:17Speaker 6: No, no, no no. If I give them to Ron,
- 13:20Speaker 6: you'll never see them.
- 13:21Speaker 5: All right, all right, Millie, we'll talk again soon. Thanks

- 17:03Speaker 5: West Virginia, and they are gearing up for a series
- 17:06Speaker 5: of walks that are coming up to raise funds and
- 17:09Speaker 5: equally is important awareness about this dread of disease. And
- 17:12Speaker 5: Sharon is with us this morning in the Parmar Store studios.
- 17:15Speaker 5: Those walks scheduled in Huntington on October the nineteenth, Morgantown
- 17:19Speaker 5: October twentieth, and here in Charleston on the twenty sixth. Sharon,
- 17:22Speaker 5: good morning, welcome to the show.
- 17:23Speaker 11: Good morning, how are you?
- 17:25Speaker 5: Thank you for being here, Welcome to our new digs here, Dancy.
- 17:28Speaker 11: Yeah, I feel like I'm underdressed.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Well, now, if you come back next year, which I
- 17:33Speaker 5: know you've been on the show, that we'll be on
- 17:34Speaker 5: TV at that point, I don't know how after thirty
- 17:36Speaker 5: six years of this, Sharon, I don't know how I
- 17:38Speaker 5: feel about that. Yeah, that I'm going to be on TV.
- 17:41Speaker 5: I mean, you know, and I've heard every please don't
- 17:44Speaker 5: hit me with the face for radio joke. I've never
- 17:46Speaker 5: heard that in thirty six years. But I just don't
- 17:50Speaker 5: know exactly how that's how that's going to work out.
- 17:52Speaker 5: But fun, it'll be a good time, Okay. So and
- 17:55Speaker 5: we're learning as we go. I just got a I
- 17:57Speaker 5: got a text here from our producer that I need
- 17:59Speaker 5: to do something bit differently in here. So yes, I
- 18:01Speaker 5: will take care of that coop, all right. So we'll
- 18:04Speaker 5: get to the walks a little bit later. But not
- 18:07Speaker 5: to put you on the spot, but I'm going to
- 18:09Speaker 5: just a little bit anyway, explain what Alzheimer's is, because
- 18:12Speaker 5: we throw that term, I think out there a lot
- 18:15Speaker 5: back in the old days, they just called it old
- 18:17Speaker 5: age or whatever. But you're eccentric, eccentric. There's a variety
- 18:22Speaker 5: of different terms sharing that they used over the years.
- 18:24Speaker 5: But what exactly is Alzheimer's.
- 18:27Speaker 11: Well, Alzheimer's is a form of dementia. It's probably the
- 18:30Speaker 11: most diagnosed form of dementia. It is characterized by plaque
- 18:35Speaker 11: in the brain, and it interferes with memory essentially in
- 18:39Speaker 11: its based form, it interferes with memory and even so
- 18:42Speaker 11: far as the body's ability to remember to function. So people,
- 18:48Speaker 11: you know, this is a fatal disease. A lot of
- 18:50Speaker 11: people die of something else with Alzheimer's, but there are
- 18:53Speaker 11: people who die of Alzheimer's.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Explain that.
- 18:57Speaker 5: Explain how people die of Alzheimer's.
- 18:59Speaker 11: When you die of Alzheimer's, it affects every function in
- 19:02Speaker 11: the body. The body literally forgets how to do the
- 19:06Speaker 11: basic functions that we.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Don't think about.
- 19:08Speaker 11: And probably one of the last things to go swallowing
- 19:13Speaker 11: the ability to swallow.
- 19:14Speaker 5: So basically that's kind of what I thought, that the
- 19:17Speaker 5: body just forgets how to put those those things in
- 19:22Speaker 5: place that will make that happen. And I know, you know,
- 19:25Speaker 5: we all forget stuff as we get older. I get that,
- 19:28Speaker 5: where did I leave my keys or things of that nature?
- 19:30Speaker 5: I mean, you know, I've suffered from that my entire life.
- 19:33Speaker 5: You know, well, what signs should share and should individuals
- 19:38Speaker 5: or maybe even those close to those with a little
- 19:43Speaker 5: age on the road, what should they start to look for?
- 19:45Speaker 5: I mean, losing your keys, I forgot to turn the
- 19:47Speaker 5: forgot to turn the light off in the garage. That's
- 19:50Speaker 5: one thing. But when you forget things like names, I
- 19:54Speaker 5: mean on a regular basis of people you've known your
- 19:57Speaker 5: entire life, you forget that maybe your spouse who passed
- 20:01Speaker 5: away years ago. You're still looking for? What are some
- 20:03Speaker 5: of the things that the experts look for?
- 20:06Speaker 11: The initial science there's we do actually an education a
- 20:10Speaker 11: free education program called the warning signs, and one of
- 20:13Speaker 11: them is exactly what you're saying. It's not necessarily losing
- 20:16Speaker 11: your keys, it's losing the ability to retrace your steps
- 20:18Speaker 11: to find your keys. One of my favorite things to
- 20:21Speaker 11: say is if I found my keys in the refrigerator,
- 20:24Speaker 11: I wouldn't be surprised because I come home from work,
- 20:26Speaker 11: I put my bag down, I grab whatever I'm going
- 20:28Speaker 11: to cook for dinner, and I start cooking. I may
- 20:31Speaker 11: not have changed clothes or sat down or anything. So
- 20:33Speaker 11: if later on I look and see that I put
- 20:36Speaker 11: my car keys in the refrigerator and I grabbed the
- 20:37Speaker 11: meat out, you know, that wouldn't surprise me. When you
- 20:40Speaker 11: lose the ability to retrace those steps, or maybe you
- 20:42Speaker 11: don't remember what the keys are for, you know those are,
- 20:45Speaker 11: that's a little bit more significant.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Yeah, INDIANDIC, we're talking to you sharing covert talking about
- 20:50Speaker 5: Alzheimer's and are there any recent developments in the battle
- 20:57Speaker 5: of this disease because we have come so far over
- 21:00Speaker 5: the ye for treatment and sometimes it's about education. It's
- 21:03Speaker 5: not necessarily I mean, the treatment obviously is important, sharing
- 21:06Speaker 5: but also the education, as you said, signs to look for.
- 21:09Speaker 5: What are some of the latest developments we've seen.
- 21:11Speaker 11: Well if some of the new medicines that are FDA
- 21:14Speaker 11: approved are for early stage Alzheimer's specifically, so you have
- 21:17Speaker 11: to be diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer's definitively, and that is,
- 21:23Speaker 11: you know, to show that there's plaque in the brain
- 21:25Speaker 11: and that you have the memory issues, so that involves
- 21:27Speaker 11: a pet scan or a spinal tap, but then you
- 21:29Speaker 11: are you know, these medications are paid for by Medicaid
- 21:33Speaker 11: and Medicare, and these are things that will slow down
- 21:37Speaker 11: the progression of the disease, sometimes for eighteen months or
- 21:40Speaker 11: two years, which is a good amount of time for
- 21:42Speaker 11: someone to make plans to let their loved ones know,
- 21:46Speaker 11: because there's only one direction for the disease. But there's
- 21:49Speaker 11: there's hope in that these treatments are really good treatments.
- 21:53Speaker 11: And I know, we fund research all the time, and
- 21:57Speaker 11: specifically we funded WU for some of their research projects.
- 22:02Speaker 11: They are at the forefront of this battle, and for
- 22:06Speaker 11: a small state, we've got a big impact on this battle.
- 22:09Speaker 11: And you know, we met with them and said this
- 22:11Speaker 11: is how you apply for money for us, and this
- 22:13Speaker 11: is how you do it. And one of them left
- 22:15Speaker 11: the meeting and said I have a proposal that will work,
- 22:17Speaker 11: and he got funded, and then we funded another one
- 22:20Speaker 11: and so you know, a four hundred thousand dollars in
- 22:23Speaker 11: a year at you know, at West Virginia University, and
- 22:26Speaker 11: that's not even including some of the bigger things that
- 22:28Speaker 11: they're doing there. They've had sixty minutes segment.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Sure, I thought I was going to bring up I mean,
- 22:33Speaker 5: we don't sometimes we're our own worse enemies in this
- 22:36Speaker 5: state of We don't tout what we have going on.
- 22:37Speaker 5: But the incredible work that's being done Sharon at the
- 22:40Speaker 5: WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. I mean, as you said, sixty
- 22:43Speaker 5: minutes came in at a field and the entire world
- 22:47Speaker 5: is looking at West Virginia at what we were doing
- 22:50Speaker 5: at this particular sofa.
- 22:51Speaker 11: I tell people, we didn't fund those things because we
- 22:53Speaker 11: raised the money here and we wanted to leave it
- 22:55Speaker 11: in West Virginia. We funded them because they applied with
- 22:57Speaker 11: researchers from around the world and they were too the
- 23:00Speaker 11: best applications in the world. So that's you know, that
- 23:03Speaker 11: kind of puts perspective on it. But we have free
- 23:07Speaker 11: services that you know, when people donate, they can donate
- 23:09Speaker 11: to research, they can donate to local services, and with
- 23:13Speaker 11: Walker is our biggest fundraiser, and we raise money for
- 23:15Speaker 11: local services. We've increased the number of people we've seen
- 23:19Speaker 11: because you know, I know a lot of people think
- 23:21Speaker 11: this is an older person's disease. But you know, we
- 23:24Speaker 11: lost a mother of three in Charleston two summers ago
- 23:27Speaker 11: of this disease. That's amazing, that's inconceivable.
- 23:33Speaker 5: And how if you don't mind me asking, now, forty
- 23:35Speaker 5: under forty she.
- 23:36Speaker 11: Was under forty and that's that's inconceivable to a lot
- 23:39Speaker 11: of people. They think this is but when you include
- 23:42Speaker 11: the numbers of forty five and over, that number doubles,
- 23:45Speaker 11: so you know, and only half of the people with
- 23:47Speaker 11: the disease get a formal diagnosis, so we're dealing with
- 23:50Speaker 11: maybe twenty five percent. You know, when we start talking
- 23:53Speaker 11: about statistics, and West Virginia's been at the forefront. We've
- 23:57Speaker 11: had three unanimous pieces of legislation passed and three sessions
- 24:01Speaker 11: in this state to build up the infrastructure, to train
- 24:05Speaker 11: law enforcement to make sure that you know, public health
- 24:08Speaker 11: gets the information they need from the websites that the
- 24:11Speaker 11: state that they're disseminating the you know, good platinum standard
- 24:15Speaker 11: information and I'll be at a meeting later today with
- 24:19Speaker 11: the newly formed Alzheimer's Task Force, which is going to
- 24:22Speaker 11: evaluate how the states using the current resources to serve
- 24:25Speaker 11: people battling this disease and then what we can do,
- 24:28Speaker 11: you know, to improve it with the plan should be.
- 24:30Speaker 11: We haven't touched the plan for Alzheimer's in this state
- 24:33Speaker 11: since twenty eleven.
- 24:35Speaker 5: We're way overdue, way overdue.
- 24:37Speaker 11: But it's but those are really positive things for us.
- 24:40Speaker 11: You know, no other state in the country has had
- 24:42Speaker 11: three pieces unanimous legislation passed to try to improve the
- 24:46Speaker 11: aging in place, you know, for this, for this, for
- 24:49Speaker 11: their constituentcy.
- 24:50Speaker 5: Talking with to Sharon Covert about Alzheimer's the Dave Alan
- 24:53Speaker 5: Show on five Any Line brought to you, apart by
- 24:54Speaker 5: your hometown baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds, Burton's and
- 24:57Speaker 5: our sister station what O seven three The Beat invite
- 24:59Speaker 5: you to go our ballpark next Thursday night for Trick
- 25:02Speaker 5: or Beats presented by Selango Law two sessions, one at
- 25:05Speaker 5: six o'clock the other at seven point thirty. You must
- 25:08Speaker 5: have a ticket to be admitted. Tickets are free They're
- 25:11Speaker 5: available at our studios eleven eleven Virginia Streets and Charleston
- 25:14Speaker 5: during normal business hours. So since you've been doing how
- 25:17Speaker 5: long have you been doing this this sort of work.
- 25:19Speaker 11: I have been with the Alzheimers Association for over seven years,
- 25:22Speaker 11: and I've been in public health for a lot longer.
- 25:25Speaker 11: Well you just say a lot longer.
- 25:27Speaker 5: And the reason the way you're not exactly today is
- 25:29Speaker 5: the Florence Nightingale here. But one of the reason I
- 25:32Speaker 5: bring that up is because in order to do, you know,
- 25:34Speaker 5: sharing this time. I'm a big believer and if you
- 25:36Speaker 5: truly believe in the work you're doing, you will do
- 25:40Speaker 5: better work. And obviously, you and Kelly and the other
- 25:42Speaker 5: folks that are involved in this, it's a labor of love.
- 25:45Speaker 5: It's a job, yes, but you've got a real vested
- 25:48Speaker 5: interest in learning these things, getting information out to the people,
- 25:51Speaker 5: getting information out to the families that have to deal
- 25:53Speaker 5: with these people, the fundraising, it's it's obviously it's a
- 25:57Speaker 5: labor of.
- 25:57Speaker 11: Love for you, it is, and it's more community involvement.
- 26:01Speaker 11: It was tough during COVID. People stopped going outside, they
- 26:04Speaker 11: kept you know, they stopped doing things. But a lot
- 26:06Speaker 11: of our core volunteers have come back and we are
- 26:09Speaker 11: always looking to expand it. We're we have I think
- 26:12Speaker 11: they're the best staff in the whole country. They're so
- 26:15Speaker 11: they work across all the pillars. They you know, we
- 26:18Speaker 11: incorporate public policy. We look for groups that are diverse,
- 26:22Speaker 11: that are underserved. The whole state is underserved. It's a
- 26:25Speaker 11: desperate need and you're at a higher risk if you
- 26:28Speaker 11: live in an underserved area and you don't have that
- 26:30Speaker 11: kind of medical health available that people need. And what
- 26:34Speaker 11: you know, your prior guest, Millie Snyder, was talking about,
- 26:36Speaker 11: you know, diet, exercise at all. If it's good for
- 26:38Speaker 11: your heart, it's good for your brain. So this is
- 26:42Speaker 11: imperative and our staff is so passionate. I'm just so
- 26:45Speaker 11: proud of them. I'm real humbled to be working with them.
- 26:48Speaker 11: We don't you know, we think about every move we
- 26:51Speaker 11: make to try to, you know, touch the most people.
- 26:53Speaker 11: I was down at Bluefield State in Faett County at
- 26:56Speaker 11: the RMA Bird Center talking to all these nursing students,
- 27:00Speaker 11: you know, that are going into the field and they're
- 27:02Speaker 11: getting this type of education and awareness and if they
- 27:05Speaker 11: don't know anything else, they you know when I leave,
- 27:07Speaker 11: they know there's a there's a chapter in the state.
- 27:10Speaker 11: All our resources are free. We have you know, support groups,
- 27:14Speaker 11: we have education programs, we travel uh. And it's funny
- 27:18Speaker 11: we have all fifty five counties in Taswll County, Virginia.
- 27:22Speaker 5: Go ahead and bring those.
- 27:23Speaker 11: Yeah, and I'm from McDowell County, so I'm really yeah,
- 27:26Speaker 11: so I love it. Then we've got Taswll.
- 27:27Speaker 5: County, the independent State of mcdowe.
- 27:29Speaker 11: Yeah, that's right, the Free State.
- 27:30Speaker 5: That's the Free State of McDowell.
- 27:31Speaker 11: All my walk teams are called Team Free State.
- 27:34Speaker 3: I have wanted.
- 27:34Speaker 11: We have nine walks around the state and Team Free
- 27:36Speaker 11: State is mine. So if you want to join Team
- 27:38Speaker 11: Free State, it's alz dot org, Forge slash dot walk
- 27:42Speaker 11: WV and you can.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Find Shout out to my late friend who I lost
- 27:45Speaker 5: a couple of months ago, Dennis Jarvis, from down in
- 27:47Speaker 5: that area and probably knew Dennis. Everybody knew Dennis. He
- 27:49Speaker 5: was tragically killed in a motorcycle actually in a couple
- 27:51Speaker 5: of months ago. But he always sees the first one
- 27:53Speaker 5: I heard years and years ago. Use that term have
- 27:56Speaker 5: a texture for you. Then we're going to wrap up
- 27:57Speaker 5: by talking about the individual walks Texas, Dave ask what
- 28:00Speaker 5: causes the plaque and the brain and what preventative measures
- 28:03Speaker 5: there could be.
- 28:04Speaker 11: If it's good for the heart, it's good for the brain.
- 28:07Speaker 11: The plaque, you know what causes it? We don't know
- 28:10Speaker 11: if I wish I had that answer. We just know
- 28:12Speaker 11: that it exists. It is a unique thing for Alzheimer's patients.
- 28:16Speaker 11: And you may have the plaque and not developed. You know,
- 28:18Speaker 11: the memory issues may not come till later, or may
- 28:21Speaker 11: not come at all. If you find, you know, someone
- 28:24Speaker 11: as sharp as attack when they're ten, then they should
- 28:26Speaker 11: be sharp as attack when they're ninety. It's you know,
- 28:29Speaker 11: there are a lot of people blow this off. Well
- 28:31Speaker 11: that's just aging. That's just aging. It shouldn't happen that way.
- 28:35Speaker 11: You know, your body should work, and you have to
- 28:36Speaker 11: take care of it for it to work.
- 28:39Speaker 5: All right, Let's get to these walks I mentioned. There's
- 28:41Speaker 5: a walk in Huntington on October the nineteenth, a walk
- 28:43Speaker 5: in Morgantown on October twentieth, and here in Charleston on
- 28:46Speaker 5: October twenty six. Where's it being held in Charleston, It's.
- 28:49Speaker 11: Being at the park at the baseball park Okay Park.
- 28:53Speaker 11: So we're so excited that Gomart Park. It's really uh,
- 28:56Speaker 11: it's really a nice venue. We get to put the
- 28:59Speaker 11: pictures of loved one up on the screen and they've
- 29:02Speaker 11: got a great sound system. Not everybody gets, you know,
- 29:04Speaker 11: a venue like that. So we've had it there for years.
- 29:07Speaker 11: It's usually the last Saturday in October and it's a
- 29:11Speaker 11: really fun event. We had I think they had trapeze
- 29:14Speaker 11: artists and things.
- 29:15Speaker 5: There last leave it leave it to uh to the
- 29:18Speaker 5: folks over there at the at up with trappee artists.
- 29:22Speaker 5: That sounds like it's got Jay Silverman written all over.
- 29:24Speaker 5: Saying that we've been at a.
- 29:25Speaker 11: Couple of games there too. They've been real nice to
- 29:27Speaker 11: let us come and you know, registered teams and things.
- 29:30Speaker 11: So it's been great. It's a good community.
- 29:31Speaker 5: So how do people get involved in this? Because I
- 29:33Speaker 5: mean you're looking for individuals to walk but also it's
- 29:35Speaker 5: much more fun. I would imagine if it's like the
- 29:37Speaker 5: other walk share and where you have a team, a
- 29:39Speaker 5: church group, civic group, coworkers. What's the best way to
- 29:42Speaker 5: get involved?
- 29:43Speaker 11: You can call our office three oh four three four
- 29:45Speaker 11: three two seven one seven. You can call our eight
- 29:48Speaker 11: hundred number eight hundred two seven two thirty nine hundred
- 29:51Speaker 11: go to alz dot org forward slash WV. Well we'll
- 29:54Speaker 11: get you involved. We have all kinds of volunteer opportunities,
- 29:58Speaker 11: We have all kinds of things going all fifty five counties.
- 30:01Speaker 11: We can't be in all fifty five every day, but
- 30:04Speaker 11: if we have someone there. We've got information libraries and
- 30:07Speaker 11: you know, in the library at Welch, down at Williamson,
- 30:10Speaker 11: at the Buck Carlist Center. So it's if we really
- 30:12Speaker 11: try to get the information out if we can't be there,
- 30:15Speaker 11: to have somebody trained in the community to at least
- 30:18Speaker 11: point them in our direction.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Sponsorships available, I mean, is still available.
- 30:22Speaker 11: They absolutely are. In covid is our Promise Garden sponsor
- 30:25Speaker 11: down at the Charleston Walk. We have so many businesses involved.
- 30:28Speaker 11: We need more. I mean it's a challenge in this day.
- 30:31Speaker 11: A lot of headquarters are out of state and so
- 30:33Speaker 11: they may not be as invested in the local events.
- 30:37Speaker 11: But I think we've shown that there are some core
- 30:39Speaker 11: businesses in Westernia, you know, businesses that really support We
- 30:43Speaker 11: have so many sponsors. I'll look at some and they'll
- 30:45Speaker 11: have three sponsors and we'll have twenty five and we're
- 30:48Speaker 11: just you know, we're just so to give back.
- 30:50Speaker 5: I mean, I see this and I promote a lot
- 30:53Speaker 5: of these community service type activities, sharing in there. Everyone.
- 30:57Speaker 5: We've got five to ten sponsors on everyone.
- 30:59Speaker 11: It's a challenge.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Two.
- 31:00Speaker 11: I think a lot of people during election years they
- 31:03Speaker 11: get real nervous about contributing to charities and things. But
- 31:06Speaker 11: it's it's really cool because we've got right now a
- 31:09Speaker 11: seventy percent team retention and walk and you try to
- 31:13Speaker 11: stay over fifty percent. So to be it over seventy percent,
- 31:17Speaker 11: it's really humbling and we really appreciate this.
- 31:19Speaker 5: It And I will throw this out because I talk
- 31:21Speaker 5: a lot of politics in the show. I don't expect
- 31:23Speaker 5: the YouTube, but I will say this to our political candidates.
- 31:26Speaker 5: We don't want to turn it into a campaign rally. However,
- 31:28Speaker 5: if you want to be at a place where there's

- 36:45Speaker 5: we'll check in with both of those folks tomorrow. And
- 36:47Speaker 5: also some news out of Bridge Valley. A new partnership
- 36:52Speaker 5: was announced yesterday between Bridge Valley and Marshall, so we'll
- 36:55Speaker 5: get into that with Doctor Sacks plus Dream of Denver.
- 36:57Speaker 5: It's going to be on the show tomorrow. Dreamer is
- 36:58Speaker 5: the widow of Bob Day. You know, Gilligan dream I'm sorry,
- 37:03Speaker 5: Maynard g kres Kreb, thank you very much, and followed
- 37:06Speaker 5: by by Gilligan Dreamer. Dreamer is an actress in her
- 37:10Speaker 5: own right and an author. A matter of fact, she's
- 37:12Speaker 5: going to be making an appearance at the West Virginia

- 37:16Speaker 5: Dreama for a number of years. She is a peach
- 37:18Speaker 5: of a person. So we're gonna check and check in
- 37:20Speaker 5: with a dream of Denver coming up on the show
- 37:22Speaker 5: to mar rob Riel's here from our sister station, our
- 37:24Speaker 5: neighbor down the hall, ninety six one KWS so T
- 37:28Speaker 5: minus twenty four hours, right, yeah, thankfully. It's a short
- 37:30Speaker 5: walk from the KWS studio less than we are four
- 37:36Speaker 5: twenty three carry the three math is hard. Twenty two
- 37:39Speaker 5: hours away from this thing starting eight o'clock tomorrow morning.
- 37:43Speaker 5: No trepidation at all, not nervous, not even a little bit. Well,
- 37:48Speaker 5: the first couple of days weather looks good. Yeah, mother
- 37:50Speaker 5: nature is cooperating. Like sixty tomorrow, maybe seventy on Friday,
- 37:54Speaker 5: that should be. It's gonna be a layers sort of
- 37:56Speaker 5: thing though, because it'll be about thirty five tomorrow morning,
- 38:00Speaker 5: and so yeah, I'm going to be peeling like an
- 38:02Speaker 5: un you know, over the course of making my way
- 38:04Speaker 5: through Mikeshoal's Elkview and then to Clindennon tomorrow. Now, for
- 38:08Speaker 5: those who may not have heard your appearance on the
- 38:10Speaker 5: show yesterday. Why in the world are you walking from
- 38:14Speaker 5: Charleston to Morgantown because I'm stupid? Oh no, you want
- 38:16Speaker 5: the real reason. So during our Cares for Kids Radiothon
- 38:20Speaker 5: presented by Styke Wealth Enhancement Group in August, we were
- 38:23Speaker 5: I got caught up in the moment at the Hostetler
- 38:24Speaker 5: Center at WVU Medicine Children's I was not thrilled by
- 38:29Speaker 5: the day one numbers, and so I was half lamenting,
- 38:32Speaker 5: half challenging, and I said, you know, if you beat
- 38:35Speaker 5: last year's total, I will walk the check from our
- 38:38Speaker 5: Charleston office back to Morgantown. And people smashed it. They
- 38:42Speaker 5: came through for West Virginia kids, which I deeply respect
- 38:45Speaker 5: and admire. And because I respect fellow West Virginians so much,
- 38:49Speaker 5: I'm proud to live here too. I owe it to
- 38:52Speaker 5: y'all to keep my word. And what is this checking
- 38:54Speaker 5: them out of one hundred and seventy two thousand dollars
- 38:58Speaker 5: and I want to say, like we're thirty four. I
- 39:01Speaker 5: used to know the exact number off the top of mind.
- 39:03Speaker 6: Say.
- 39:03Speaker 5: I was gonna say, if there's sense and their chances
- 39:05Speaker 5: are that was a radio donation. If there's seventy three cents.
- 39:08Speaker 5: Chances are that came from one of us. So here's
- 39:09Speaker 5: seventy three cents. If there's sense in this donation, that's
- 39:12Speaker 5: the only sense in it. Because this is not a
- 39:14Speaker 5: wise move on my part. It's not a wise move.
- 39:17Speaker 14: Rob.
- 39:17Speaker 5: And I've known you, you know, since you came. I
- 39:18Speaker 5: didn't know you the first time you were here, but
- 39:20Speaker 5: I got you to missed much. I consider you to
- 39:21Speaker 5: be one of my really, really good friends. Don't some
- 39:24Speaker 5: say that out loud to anybody, But I'm concerned. I'm
- 39:29Speaker 5: concerned about your well being as you should be. You're
- 39:31Speaker 5: on You're only maybe half a lap ahead of me
- 39:33Speaker 5: in terms of age and health. Yeah, but I ain't
- 39:36Speaker 5: the one walk into Mortgantown. No you're not, and that's
- 39:38Speaker 5: probably I'm walking out to the garage. Youuld get another
- 39:40Speaker 5: beer out of I hope Milli Snyder didn't hear that,
- 39:42Speaker 5: by the way, but go ahead. We we have some
- 39:45Speaker 5: young folks in their twenties in good shape in this building,
- 39:47Speaker 5: or early thirties, and I should have tasked one of
- 39:50Speaker 5: them with this, but no, here we are a guy
- 39:52Speaker 5: who's gonna turn fifty one right after this thing ends hopefully,
- 39:57Speaker 5: and I mean it's gonna end one way or another. Well,
- 40:00Speaker 5: that's that's an optimistic way to put my I mean
- 40:04Speaker 5: you know that's that's like, well, half of all marriages
- 40:06Speaker 5: in in divorce. Yeah, the other half end in death.
- 40:08Speaker 5: So I mean, you know it's going in one way
- 40:10Speaker 5: or another, right, So you can leave it approximately because
- 40:11Speaker 5: you do your show tomorrow morning. I am, yes, So
- 40:14Speaker 5: I'm gonna do the show every morning, right, Yeah, but
- 40:16Speaker 5: you're just gonna do it, you know, while walking and
- 40:18Speaker 5: breathing heavily.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:21Speaker 5: I will be in the Walker studio for most of
- 40:24Speaker 5: things tomorrow, and we'll have somebody who's punching the buttons
- 40:28Speaker 5: for me when I'm on the road, So getting that
- 40:30Speaker 5: person up to speed and get things squared away. But yeah,
- 40:32Speaker 5: eight o'clock, right after a law dog does our news,
- 40:35Speaker 5: I am walking out the door, backpack on, big smile
- 40:39Speaker 5: on my face, big stupid grin on my face because
- 40:42Speaker 5: he doesn't know better, And off we go, and truck
- 40:44Speaker 5: Norris is going to be that's the official station vehicle. Yes,
- 40:48Speaker 5: trust and Norris will be close by. Yeah, in case
- 40:51Speaker 5: I get into trouble, there will be Truck Norris and
- 40:54Speaker 5: when I get into trouble, so you know, look for
- 40:56Speaker 5: it out and about, but it may not necessarily be
- 40:59Speaker 5: on my route because you know, like there are some
- 41:02Speaker 5: days when folks who have other things to do are gonna, oh,
- 41:05Speaker 5: I got to go over and see this person. Holler
- 41:07Speaker 5: at me if you have trouble kind of a thing.
- 41:08Speaker 5: So all right, So you are estimating that you'll make
- 41:12Speaker 5: it to Clinton Dennan in day one. That's the goal.
- 41:15Speaker 5: Twenty one miles and that would be the biggest chunk.
- 41:17Speaker 5: If I can do twenty one miles to Clin Dennan,
- 41:21Speaker 5: I think I'll be our. And one of the things
- 41:23Speaker 5: I think people don't realize and we'll let you go, rob,
- 41:25Speaker 5: But I think that people don't realize is And I've
- 41:27Speaker 5: been in a lot of parades with different radio stations
- 41:29Speaker 5: and things like that. When you drive on the roads,
- 41:32Speaker 5: you don't realize how uphill they are, you know, I
- 41:34Speaker 5: mean even the simple streets in town. Until you actually
- 41:38Speaker 5: walk in a parade or do something like you're doing,
- 41:40Speaker 5: you don't realize the amount of hight that goes into
- 41:43Speaker 5: a lot of the It's called the mountain state for
- 41:46Speaker 5: a reason. Yes, I have scouted the route and it's
- 41:49Speaker 5: almost steadily uphill all the way to Morgantown. Yeah. Well,
- 41:52Speaker 5: this is not my metaphor for your life, man, but
- 41:56Speaker 5: Sissyphus indeed for your Greeks classics friends. Leave tomorrow morning
- 42:00Speaker 5: at around eight o'clock and your your ATA. You'll be
- 42:03Speaker 5: in Clindena tomorrow. You'll have to be there by six. Yeah,
- 42:06Speaker 5: you'll have to be there by six and then because
- 42:08Speaker 5: you're working with the state police and everybody to make
- 42:11Speaker 5: sure that you don't get you killed or worse. I
- 42:12Speaker 5: can only walk in the daylight, so basically my window
- 42:15Speaker 5: is eight a to six p each day that I want.
- 42:18Speaker 5: So you'll just be walking and uh and again delivering
- 42:21Speaker 5: that check. And your estimated time of arrival is Halloween,
- 42:25Speaker 5: Halloween afternoon. Hopefully there'll be some shenanigans there in the
- 42:29Speaker 5: Hosteler Center on the tenth floor of WV Medicine Children's
- 42:32Speaker 5: because you know it's Halloween. Kids should be having a
- 42:34Speaker 5: kids should be able to be kids, and that's why
- 42:36Speaker 5: you're doing what you're doing. Yes, every dime of this,
- 42:39Speaker 5: every penny, even that that three cents that Dave put
- 42:42Speaker 5: in the seventy three cents every single penny goes to
- 42:46Speaker 5: West Virginia kids being happy, healthy and healing, not administrative costs,
- 42:51Speaker 5: not paying for me to get new shoes or eat
- 42:53Speaker 5: lunch or you know, I've got a water sponsor on
- 42:56Speaker 5: this sot of, So every single penny goes to West
- 42:59Speaker 5: Virginia kids in their care. All right, Rob, we wish
- 43:02Speaker 5: you the best of luck, and again, my plan is
- 43:03Speaker 5: to check in with you each day at the top
- 43:06Speaker 5: of the show, so we can kind of by the
- 43:08Speaker 5: time that I talk to you tomorrow, you'll be well
- 43:09Speaker 5: on your way. So that's the plan. And sometimes things
- 43:11Speaker 5: happen when you're dealing with live radio. What the plan
- 43:13Speaker 5: is is we're going to check in with you at
- 43:15Speaker 5: the top of every show on my show. Possibly go wrong,
- 43:18Speaker 5: I mean, well, what could possibly go wrong is that
- 43:20Speaker 5: some dude just answers your phone to go. I don't know.
- 43:22Speaker 5: I just found this phone by the road. I don't know,
- 43:24Speaker 5: some guys laying over here. I didn't think he needed
- 43:26Speaker 5: the phone. They didn't have a wallet anymore anymore. Rob, Real,

- 46:22Speaker 5: The Greenbrier Hotel Corp. Led by the Governor, announced yesterday
- 46:25Speaker 5: that it has satisfied its financial obligation to a credit
- 46:29Speaker 5: collection company, putting the stop to the proceedings. Brad mclhaney
- 46:32Speaker 5: with the lead story this morning wv Metronews dot com
- 46:35Speaker 5: and he will be in the lead off position to
- 46:37Speaker 5: discuss it with Hoppy this morning. Also side note, the
- 46:39Speaker 5: governor has a media briefing schedule, will be covering I
- 46:43Speaker 5: think I heard it was at eleven o'clock this morning.
- 46:45Speaker 5: Either way, we will be covering that. Also on Hopy today,
- 46:48Speaker 5: Fox News is out with something called the Fox News
- 46:50Speaker 5: Power Rankings on the presidential race. Ryan Schmels from Fox

- 47:31Speaker 5: I also saw this in the of course I forgot.
- 47:34Speaker 5: How could I forget to mention that yesterday I think
- 47:36Speaker 5: was Baby Dog's birthday, baby Dog turning five. Yesterday I
- 47:40Speaker 5: saw my good friend Barbersville, the village of Barbersville, Chris
- 47:44Speaker 5: Tatum was down there hanging out with Baby Dog and
- 47:47Speaker 5: celebrating Baby Dog's birthday. Also saw, and this may be
- 47:50Speaker 5: included online in the story that that baby Dog and
- 47:55Speaker 5: Governor Justice are set to appear at a Trump event.
- 47:58Speaker 5: I don't think that Trump is going to be there
- 48:00Speaker 5: himself in Pennsylvania, but I think I did read that
- 48:03Speaker 5: this morning that some sort of an event going on
- 48:05Speaker 5: in Pennsylvania, like a Trump rally without without Trump. Was
- 48:09Speaker 5: somebody please tell Donald Trump. And again I've made my
- 48:15Speaker 5: feelings well known to Donald Trump. This is just a
- 48:17Speaker 5: friend of friend Donnie. Okay, explain to him what YMCA
- 48:21Speaker 5: means and when you play YMCA, explain that just I
- 48:25Speaker 5: don't think if he understood it, he would completely be
- 48:28Speaker 5: on board with him. As was expected, last night, the
- 48:31Speaker 5: Gnawa County Board of Education voted unanimously to close Bell Elementary.
- 48:36Speaker 5: Hearings last night held at Riverside High School, the plan
- 48:39Speaker 5: was announced. You were called back in September by Canawa
- 48:42Speaker 5: County School Superintendent doctor Tom Williams. The proposal we'll see
- 48:46Speaker 5: four elementary schools consolidate into a new, larger elementary school
- 48:50Speaker 5: at the site of the former DuPont Middle School. Now
- 48:52Speaker 5: those schools are Bell, Maulden, Middleland Trail and Mary Ingles. Now,
- 48:57Speaker 5: if the board, as I understand it, if the board
- 49:01Speaker 5: votes to close the others, just like they did Bell,
- 49:04Speaker 5: the School Building Authority would have to provide funds to
- 49:06Speaker 5: build the new school and our own. Aaron Parker covered
- 49:10Speaker 5: the story. You can read about at wv metronews dot com.
- 49:14Speaker 5: The community wasn't happy about it, but they they never are,
- 49:17Speaker 5: and I get it completely. One and some elected officials
- 49:22Speaker 5: spoke out. I think we had an interview on the
- 49:24Speaker 5: station with the mayor of Bell and frequent guest of
- 49:27Speaker 5: this show, David Fletcher, not happy about it. And so
- 49:30Speaker 5: this is a little bit different though, because this is
- 49:33Speaker 5: going to involve closing these schools and then the SBA
- 49:36Speaker 5: would have to sign off on a new school being built.
- 49:39Speaker 5: It's a very, very in depth story. Aaron Parker has
- 49:41Speaker 5: a complete story posted about it on the website Wvmetronews
- 49:45Speaker 5: dot com Texas. Dave, will babydog be having a dance
- 49:49Speaker 5: party too? You know, baby dog? With all due respect
- 49:52Speaker 5: to the first animal of the state of West Virginia,
- 49:54Speaker 5: baby Dog's a little bit like like your host here,
- 49:57Speaker 5: a little bit larger around the middle. And I don't
- 49:59Speaker 5: know that baby Dog will be hosting the dance party
- 50:03Speaker 5: or being a part of the dance party, dancing for nuggets.
- 50:07Speaker 5: Maybe that's what that could be. Also, I wanted to
- 50:11Speaker 5: get this in there. Last night, the Nitro City Council
- 50:16Speaker 5: voted seven to one to sell the Nitro Regional Wastewater
- 50:19Speaker 5: Utility Center to West Virginia American Water. The mayor of Nitro,
- 50:23Speaker 5: Dave Casebaul, says it simply isn't economically feasible for the
- 50:28Speaker 5: city to continue to operate that facility, considering its age,
- 50:32Speaker 5: needed repairs, so on and so forth. According to the mayor,
- 50:34Speaker 5: the system is in need of repairs tens of millions
- 50:36Speaker 5: of dollars. The company West Virginia. American Water already provides
- 50:40Speaker 5: water to the town City councilmen and House Member Andy Shamblin,
- 50:44Speaker 5: I understand was the only loan no vote on that.
- 50:47Speaker 5: Coming up on tomorrow's show, We're going to check in

- 50:53Speaker 5: coming up tomorrow for WVU Children's doctor Casey Sacksonbridge Valley.
