SIXTEEN CRIBS, ONE SURVIVOR
A fire broke out before dawn Wednesday in the neonatal nursery of Pakistan’s largest public hospital, killing at least 14 newborns. The blaze started around 6:45 a.m. at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad, apparently triggered by an exploding air conditioning compressor inside the Mother and Child Health ward. Sixteen infants were in the nursery when the fire broke out. Only one was rescued alive.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze within the hour…
