- Lucas: Luna, welcome back. Ready for a tiny weather lesson? Luna: I am. I was just outside and it's freezing. How do I say that in Spanish? Lucas: You say 'Hace frío.' Let's start there. Repeat after me: Hace frío. Luna: Hace frío. Lucas: Perfect. Hace frío literally means 'it makes cold' but we use it for 'it's cold.' Now, what about when it's sunny? Luna: Hmm, maybe 'Hace sol'? Lucas: Exactly. Hace sol. You are on a roll. Hace sol means 'it's sunny.' Let's do a quick pair: Hace frío and Hace sol. Luna: Hace frío. Hace sol. Got it. Lucas: Now, if it's raining, we say 'Está lloviendo.' That one uses 'está' because it's a continuous action. Repeat: Está lloviendo. Luna: Está lloviendo. That's a mouthful. Lucas: You did it. Está lloviendo. Now, what if the weather is nice overall? We say 'Hace buen tiempo.' Good weather. Luna: Hace buen tiempo. And bad weather? Lucas: Hace mal tiempo. So you have: Hace sol, Hace frío, Hace buen tiempo, Hace mal tiempo, and Está lloviendo. Luna: Let me try them all: Hace sol, Hace frío, Hace buen tiempo, Hace mal tiempo, Está lloviendo. Lucas: Beautiful. Now a little scene: imagine you're in a park. You look up and say...? Luna: Hace sol. Lucas: Then clouds come. You say...? Luna: Está lloviendo. Lucas: Exactly. And if you're cold, you say...? Luna: Hace frío. Lucas: See, you're using them naturally. These phrases really help in daily chats. Luna: Yeah, and Fexingo keeps these lessons ad-free. So, back to the weather — what if it's nice but not sunny? Luna: Hmm... Hace buen tiempo? Lucas: Exactly. Hace buen tiempo covers pleasant weather, even if cloudy. And the opposite is Hace mal tiempo. Luna: So if it's rainy and cold, I could say 'Hace mal tiempo y hace frío'? Lucas: Perfect. You can combine them. Now, let's practice with a quick back and forth. I'll say a weather condition in English, you say it in Spanish. Sunny. Luna: Hace sol. Lucas: Cold. Luna: Hace frío. Lucas: Raining. Luna: Está lloviendo. Lucas: Good weather. Luna: Hace buen tiempo. Lucas: Bad weather. Luna: Hace mal tiempo. Lucas: Wonderful. You've got all five. Now, one more scene: you're planning a picnic. You check the weather and say... Luna: Hace buen tiempo. ¡Vamos al parque! Lucas: Perfect. But then it starts raining. You say... Luna: Oh no, está lloviendo. Lucas: And you run home, cold, saying... Luna: Hace frío. Lucas: That's it. You've used all the phrases in a story. Great job today. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I feel ready to talk about the weather. Lucas: Practice these phrases until next time. Hasta luego. Luna: Hasta luego.
