- 0:01Speaker 1: And when you are live. Hi everybody, hie Hello, I'm
- 0:11Speaker 1: here with my friend Marva Riley. She is an amazing
- 0:18Speaker 1: inspirational author and nurse, and she has really inspired me
- 0:28Speaker 1: in healthy eating and living well. I was already eating
- 0:32Speaker 1: healthy when I met Marva, but she inspired me to
- 0:36Speaker 1: up my game in movement and exercise. And guess what,
- 0:43Speaker 1: in the process, after I shared her books with my mom,
- 0:47Speaker 1: my mom started implementing some of what Marva talked about
- 0:52Speaker 1: and she went from an inactive couch potato after the
- 0:56Speaker 1: pandemic to getting up and going to the g at
- 1:00Speaker 1: eighty years. Oh so, if you want to start some
- 1:06Speaker 1: healthy habits, Marva is here to inspire you. But first,
- 1:12Speaker 1: real quick, if you're wondering what this background is, I
- 1:14Speaker 1: don't want it to distract you. But the online Confidence
- 1:19Speaker 1: Club for kids is coming soon. But now let's listen
- 1:24Speaker 1: to Marva tell us who she is and what she does.
- 1:29Speaker 2: All right, Oh, Franzine, thank you so much for having
- 1:32Speaker 2: me this afternoon. It's such such a delight to be
- 1:37Speaker 2: on this platform to chat with you. It's not an interview,
- 1:40Speaker 2: it's a talk. We're just gonna share some great tips
- 1:43Speaker 2: that will help us to become and remain the healthst
- 1:46Speaker 2: version ourselves, and who doesn't want to be the healthst
- 1:49Speaker 2: version of themselves? So my name is Marva Riley R
- 1:54Speaker 2: I L. E. Y. I've been a registered nurse for
- 1:57Speaker 2: a long time, since nineteen ninety eight. Most of those
- 2:01Speaker 2: years I worked in critical care, so I cared for
- 2:04Speaker 2: the sickest patients. I'm also a holistic health advocate and
- 2:09Speaker 2: the author of for Wonderful Health and Wellness books and
- 2:17Speaker 2: my greatest passion, deepest passion, is to help everyone to
- 2:22Speaker 2: become and remain the healthiest version of themselves in body,
- 2:27Speaker 2: mind and spirit.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And now that I hear your accent, I'm reminded you're
- 2:35Speaker 1: from Jamaica, aren't you. How's your family? I am from Jamaica.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I've lived in the US longer than I lived in
- 2:44Speaker 2: Jamaica because I've been in the US since nineteen eighty nine.
- 2:48Speaker 2: My family is okay since Hurricane Beryl. After I spoke
- 2:52Speaker 2: with one of my sisters today and they still don't
- 2:54Speaker 2: have electricity, but she has generator and you know, doing
- 2:58Speaker 2: the best there is. They have many deaths and not
- 3:07Speaker 2: a whole lot of damage to houses, but the powers
- 3:10Speaker 2: down and with the power being down, the technologies down,
- 3:15Speaker 2: the phones are down, that kind of thing. But they're good.
- 3:17Speaker 2: They're good things.
- 3:18Speaker 1: All my friends Florida know how that goes.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I actually lived in South Florida. I lived in Fort Lauderdale.
- 3:29Speaker 2: We lived in Fort Lauderdale and moved to Georgia seven
- 3:33Speaker 2: years ago. So we've weathered a number of hurricanes in
- 3:39Speaker 2: in in South Florida, so I'm well aware of that.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And before that Jamaica, and then Jamaica has also been
- 3:45Speaker 2: having some earthquakes recently as well, so they're on the
- 3:53Speaker 2: c Yeah, that's not unusually there.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yeah, So why don't you tell us why you quit
- 4:02Speaker 1: nursing and went into writing books.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Actually, not quit nursing per se. Okay. My husband always
- 4:12Speaker 2: says to me, the real definition of a nurse is
- 4:15Speaker 2: an educator, and we were also taught that in nursing school.
- 4:19Speaker 2: We are educators. That's part of our job as a nurse,
- 4:24Speaker 2: whether we work in a hospital setting, a clinic, doctor's office,
- 4:30Speaker 2: own or own practice, nurse educators. Whatever we do as nurses,
- 4:35Speaker 2: we are constantly educating the public, whether they're patients or
- 4:40Speaker 2: whomever it is. There are actually many, many, many, many
- 4:44Speaker 2: many nurses that are nurse educators in colleges, universities and
- 4:48Speaker 2: stuff like that. So I'm not in the clinical setting,
- 4:52Speaker 2: but I'm constantly doing research so that i can share
- 4:57Speaker 2: the information that I find out with us big and
- 5:02Speaker 2: bitter because we're constantly having to work and tweak and
- 5:08Speaker 2: work and tweak on our health. So I'm always researching
- 5:11Speaker 2: and writing things. So I'm still a nurse. I still
- 5:13Speaker 2: have my license. I just don't practice in the clinical setting.
- 5:18Speaker 2: But with that out of the way, I was very,
- 5:21Speaker 2: very sick. I was thirty eight when I was diagnosed
- 5:26Speaker 2: with a heart disease called cardiomyopathy. And for those who
- 5:30Speaker 2: don't know what cardiomyopathy is, in a nutshell, it's the
- 5:33Speaker 2: weakening of the muscles of the heart. So the heart
- 5:37Speaker 2: can pump hardy, pumps soft and the muscles of the
- 5:42Speaker 2: heart weaken and the blood backflows and you end up
- 5:49Speaker 2: getting swelling and shortness of breath and fluids in your
- 5:52Speaker 2: lungs and would potentially go into heart failure. I had
- 5:57Speaker 2: an electrical issue wrong with my heart, so I could
- 6:00Speaker 2: I will have just died. Does have a sudden cardiot
- 6:03Speaker 2: death that kind of thing, and the symptoms I was
- 6:07Speaker 2: having was shortness of breath, shortness of breath. I had
- 6:09Speaker 2: no energy. I was shortness of breath. I couldn't focus.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I just never felt good. And I was thirty eight
- 6:15Speaker 2: with young children and a husband, and of course I
- 6:19Speaker 2: ignored all those symptoms because nurses and doctors do that nonsense.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Oh we take care of with children, the husbands and dogs,
- 6:26Speaker 2: the patients, everybody, but ourselves. Eventually, when I went to
- 6:30Speaker 2: see the doctor, actually a medical doctor, did not diagnose me.
- 6:34Speaker 2: He kept telling me that it was in my head,
- 6:36Speaker 2: that I was pre menopause, and it was in my head.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So I saw his nurse practitioner and she said, she
- 6:51Speaker 2: your eyes was beaten erratically and irregularly all the time,
- 6:58Speaker 2: and she referred me to a cardiologist. He had me
- 7:03Speaker 2: on drugs and just checking my internet. He had me
- 7:09Speaker 2: on drugs and the drugs wasn't helping. I mean, it
- 7:12Speaker 2: just made me feel worse and all the negative side effects.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I had no energy, nothing. And then one of my
- 7:18Speaker 2: coworkers said, you know, you should go see an electrophysiologist,
- 7:22Speaker 2: a heart specialist who specializes in the electrical issues of
- 7:27Speaker 2: your heart, because what the general cardiologists saw was the
- 7:31Speaker 2: weakening of weakening of my heart or I was functioning
- 7:34Speaker 2: at thirty to thirty five percent, and sixty five percent
- 7:37Speaker 2: or so is normal. So she said, you should see
- 7:41Speaker 2: someone who specializes in the electrical activity of the heart.
- 7:46Speaker 2: She was an older nurse, more seasoned. She set it
- 7:49Speaker 2: up for me because she knew someone in that field.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And when I went, he said, yes, it's muscle issue,
- 7:54Speaker 2: not electric issue. Long and short of it is that
- 7:58Speaker 2: he did a procedure called a cardiac ablation where he
- 8:02Speaker 2: burnt an area in my heart that was overly excited.
- 8:06Speaker 2: And then he said to me on my two week checkup,
- 8:10Speaker 2: he said, I want you to go home and eat healthily.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I want you to get rid of coffee and anything
- 8:16Speaker 2: with caffeine. I want you to walk for thirty minutes
- 8:20Speaker 2: every day, decrease your stress level, practice yoga, get outside
- 8:26Speaker 2: in nature, and enjoy living. At that time, I never
- 8:32Speaker 2: knew that that was called the holistic lifestyle.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I had the same epiphany in my fifties. Yes, just
- 8:43Speaker 1: living the way that we were meant to live, not
- 8:47Speaker 1: getting our food from a factory but the ground and
- 8:52Speaker 1: actually getting out there and exercising. Yes, just simple things.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I mean, it's not hard. You don't don't You don't
- 9:01Speaker 1: have to spend thousands of dollars on a gym and
- 9:05Speaker 1: buy all of these products that are highly processed that
- 9:09Speaker 1: are not really good for you. Just get back to
- 9:13Speaker 1: the basics. I like to tell people, if people didn't
- 9:16Speaker 1: need it one hundred years ago, don't eat it.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Uh huh, that's right, that's exactly. And you know the
- 9:23Speaker 2: thing is that folks think that healthy living is difficult.
- 9:26Speaker 1: It isn't.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Like you said, Francine is getting back to eating what
- 9:32Speaker 2: doctor Sabby used to call God food. If you eat
- 9:39Speaker 2: eat eat meat, not bacon, not sausage, not hot dog,
- 9:46Speaker 2: not joels. Make vegan this and vegan that. If you're
- 9:50Speaker 2: gonna eat meat, eat meat. If you're gonna eat fish,
- 9:53Speaker 2: eat fish. If you're gonna eat vegetables, eat vegetables, not
- 9:59Speaker 2: the fake stuff that they sell in the store. And
- 10:02Speaker 2: it actually is cheaper to eat healthy than unhealthy, because
- 10:07Speaker 2: even though yes, you can get a dozen donut for
- 10:11Speaker 2: a dollar, for example, you can actually get a whole
- 10:15Speaker 2: apple for a dollar. You can get all kinds of
- 10:20Speaker 2: vegetables for a dollar. I mean, cabbage is cheap, you know.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And now, like we spoke about watermelon. Watermelon is expensive.
- 10:28Speaker 2: You buy a whole watermelon for six dollars and that
- 10:31Speaker 2: will last you a while, you know, four days or
- 10:33Speaker 2: something like that. And also the money we have to
- 10:37Speaker 2: spend when we lose our health, right, you know, when
- 10:41Speaker 2: you lose your health and when you can hang out
- 10:43Speaker 2: with your friends and when you can enjoy your family,
- 10:45Speaker 2: when you can't breathe and you live in fear, you
- 10:48Speaker 2: cannot put a price tag on that. Recently, I saw
- 10:53Speaker 2: a little posting on Instagram and it says you either
- 10:56Speaker 2: pay the farmer now faar and we are, or you
- 11:01Speaker 2: pay the pha r.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Me later on exactly. And you know, it really isn't
- 11:08Speaker 1: expensive if you shop wisely. I buy twenty five pounds
- 11:12Speaker 1: of organic carrots at a time for and it's twenty
- 11:17Speaker 1: dollars less than a dollar a pound. I eat a
- 11:21Speaker 1: big bowl of roasted carrots every day because they're so healthy.
- 11:25Speaker 1: They taste good, and they're inexpensive, yes.
- 11:30Speaker 2: And they're loaded with all kinds of great nutrients. Right,
- 11:33Speaker 2: you know, it's not it's it's it's least it's less
- 11:39Speaker 2: expensive to eat healthy. In fact, recently I went to
- 11:42Speaker 2: the hardware place and I was talking to one of
- 11:44Speaker 2: the guys there and there, and I told him I was,
- 11:48Speaker 2: you know, vegetarian, and he said, oh, my wife and
- 11:52Speaker 2: I were thinking we might need to go vegetarian because
- 11:54Speaker 2: the other day we went to the supermarket and I
- 11:57Speaker 2: was standing over that beef, that piece of beef for
- 12:00Speaker 2: about thirty minutes, trying to deciber it or not I
- 12:02Speaker 2: should buy it because it was so expensive. What beianes
- 12:08Speaker 2: are loaded with protein and iron and all kinds of
- 12:11Speaker 2: other nutrients that beef doesn't have.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Okay, fiber, fiber, and yeah, and guess what a pack
- 12:19Speaker 3: of lentil is a dollars sixty nine if you buy
- 12:22Speaker 3: it a place like Walmart, cheaper.
- 12:24Speaker 2: A pack of a black Eye payses two dollars and
- 12:27Speaker 2: that will serve the entire family. And you won't have
- 12:31Speaker 2: the American Cancer Society saying to you, don't eat too
- 12:34Speaker 2: much lentils or too much black artes exactly. But they're
- 12:37Speaker 2: prayed about the beef. Okay, so eat real food. It's
- 12:44Speaker 2: not complex. And that's what I share in my books.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Eating healthily, losing the weight and keeping it off for
- 12:52Speaker 2: good is not complex. Every year, they tell you in
- 12:56Speaker 2: January you have to do this and you have to
- 12:58Speaker 2: do that, need to join the gym. I used to
- 13:02Speaker 2: join the gym years ago, but since I came to Georgia,
- 13:04Speaker 2: there's no gym close to me. So my gym is
- 13:07Speaker 2: my yard. And even if you leave an apartment, your
- 13:10Speaker 2: apartment can be your gym. If you live in an
- 13:13Speaker 2: apartment building, go up and down the stairs. YouTube has
- 13:17Speaker 2: tons of videos to help you to to you know,
- 13:20Speaker 2: to exercise. Husband has been watching a couple of guys
- 13:26Speaker 2: on YouTube and doing all kinds of calisthetic and I
- 13:29Speaker 2: see his chess his picture looking really nice in the arms,
- 13:33Speaker 2: you can get pre information why he sucked.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Well. Not only that, but imagine cleaning your house for exercise. Yes,
- 13:43Speaker 1: so instead of going to the gym, clean your house.
- 13:47Speaker 1: You'll have a beautiful environment to live in. And you
- 13:51Speaker 1: get the vacuum and mop and do all that stuff.
- 13:57Speaker 1: When you do your laundry, take extra trips between the
- 14:01Speaker 1: washer and the closet, and get your steps in walking
- 14:05Speaker 1: back and forth. That's right.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Where there's a will, there's a way. What I find
- 14:12Speaker 2: is that folks would make excuses when they haven't made
- 14:16Speaker 2: up their mind. Yes, but the unfortunate thing Francied is
- 14:20Speaker 2: that so many people wait until there, I mean, Mark,
- 14:26Speaker 2: I was like that. I had to get the wake
- 14:29Speaker 2: up Paul to say, you're thirty eight. In fact, when
- 14:33Speaker 2: I was thirty eight and diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, my cardiologist
- 14:39Speaker 2: told me that if you don't get a heart transplant,
- 14:42Speaker 2: you may not live.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Wow, and you never did. You got healthy instead. Right,
- 14:48Speaker 1: He did the procedure, he did the oblasion.
- 14:51Speaker 2: He gave me the prescription, which was eat healthily, exercise
- 14:56Speaker 2: and all that. And I was so desperate. I took
- 15:00Speaker 2: that doctor's orders to heart and I have lived it
- 15:04Speaker 2: since then.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Okay, I really need to say this. Now, make a
- 15:10Speaker 1: change in your life before you're forced to my major
- 15:17Speaker 1: upheople in my life, my liver was shutting down and
- 15:20Speaker 1: I had a full body rash and it was from
- 15:24Speaker 1: all the toxins I was taking in my body. So
- 15:27Speaker 1: Marva had her major upheaval in her life. She had
- 15:31Speaker 1: a heart condition. Get healthy before you have your major upheovle.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Yes, and if you're at that point now, it's not
- 15:40Speaker 2: too late, because there are still people that are in
- 15:46Speaker 2: a major upheaval, very very sick. In fact, this morning,
- 15:52Speaker 2: I was talking to my friend about someone we know
- 15:56Speaker 2: who is whose bodies are crisis. And the person was saying,
- 16:00Speaker 2: the doctor is very worried, and I'm saying, well, when
- 16:03Speaker 2: is he gonna decide to change? And I hear people
- 16:08Speaker 2: saying nonsense. I hear a smoker saying it, and I
- 16:12Speaker 2: hear other people that are unwilling to give up their
- 16:15Speaker 2: habits say, or something's gotta take me out. Sometimes you
- 16:20Speaker 2: don't really die. You suffer and suffer and suffer and
- 16:28Speaker 2: die a slow, painful death.
- 16:32Speaker 1: And your family suffers watching you suffer.
- 16:35Speaker 2: There you go because your family suffer because you know
- 16:40Speaker 2: your mate is. Their life is disrupted. You can't breathe,
- 16:44Speaker 2: so at night you're disrupting them. They have to be
- 16:47Speaker 2: taking you to the doctor. You don't feel well and
- 16:50Speaker 2: they don't feel well. You can't do the things that
- 16:52Speaker 2: you normally do together. So you know when you're sick.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Like Francine said, it doesn't just affect you. It affects everyone.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And let me tell you a funny story. When I
- 17:05Speaker 1: started getting healthy, and when I got home from work,
- 17:08Speaker 1: instead of drinking a glass of wine and sitting on
- 17:10Speaker 1: the couch, we took a family walk with the dog.
- 17:15Speaker 4: My dog got healthier, that's right, yes, And folks don't
- 17:19Speaker 4: know that, don't realize that there are animals that are
- 17:23Speaker 4: getting sick because they are eating unhealthy foods.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Like we are eating. Not need you, but you know,
- 17:30Speaker 2: folks are eating I walk or run around. They're not
- 17:37Speaker 2: meant to be that way, and they're not. And our
- 17:39Speaker 2: animals are not getting fresh air and sunlight, so they're
- 17:43Speaker 2: dying from some current human diseases that humans are dying from.
- 17:48Speaker 2: More animals are also dying from those diseases, you know.
- 17:52Speaker 2: So when you take a walk in the fresh air
- 17:55Speaker 2: like I see, you're in nature all the time with
- 17:57Speaker 2: your husband and your and your dog and yourself. The
- 18:00Speaker 2: whole family is getting healthy and staying healthy. You know,
- 18:05Speaker 2: folks have babies. That's no excuse if you have a
- 18:07Speaker 2: baby all the more recent take your baby outside in
- 18:11Speaker 2: the morning before the sun gets really hot and take
- 18:14Speaker 2: them for a walk. It's good for them, helps them
- 18:16Speaker 2: to sleep better. The vitamin D will help them to
- 18:20Speaker 2: grow better and thrive better, build their immune system, so
- 18:23Speaker 2: everybody's getting healthier.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I remember when we were kids, my mom had two
- 18:30Speaker 1: I'm twenty four months older than my sister, so she
- 18:33Speaker 1: had two really close together. And she didn't drive. We
- 18:37Speaker 1: walked everywhere.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's one of the problems now with There's a
- 18:45Speaker 2: physician that I think his name, don't remember his name
- 18:50Speaker 2: off hand, floor Scheimer's of anyway, he was one hundred
- 18:53Speaker 2: years of age in December, and yesterday I was listening
- 18:57Speaker 2: you know those reels that you get sometimes because I'm
- 19:00Speaker 2: into hell, they will send it to me. And he said, listen,
- 19:03Speaker 2: I'm a hundred and I'm not dying next year. I'm
- 19:06Speaker 2: not dying next year. And he said the secret is exercise.
- 19:10Speaker 2: And I remember he was saying in that real he said, listen.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I had an assistant who was obese, and I told her,
- 19:18Speaker 2: I have two things to say to you. Because I'm
- 19:20Speaker 2: a physician, I just have to say something to you.
- 19:23Speaker 2: But do you want to hear the good news or
- 19:24Speaker 2: the bad news first? And she said, give me the
- 19:27Speaker 2: bad news first. And he said, you're obese, you're at
- 19:30Speaker 2: risk for dying early heart disease, blah blah blah, blah
- 19:33Speaker 2: blah blah. And then he said, but the good news is,
- 19:36Speaker 2: even though you're obese, if you exercise, you will outlive
- 19:43Speaker 2: the thin woman who does not exercise. And I was like.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Oo.
- 19:51Speaker 2: And he's a guy that I saw some years ago.
- 19:54Speaker 2: He had like thirty acres of land in California somewhere
- 19:58Speaker 2: and he used to chop the world to burn for
- 20:00Speaker 2: firelight and for cooking and things like that.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, and you know what else, My big problem,
- 20:09Speaker 1: besides what I was eating and inactivity was stress. I
- 20:13Speaker 1: didn't manage my stress well well. Just getting up at
- 20:17Speaker 1: lunchtime and taking a walk, even if it was just
- 20:21Speaker 1: to the end of the block and back, yes, just
- 20:24Speaker 1: reduce my stress so much and that allowed me to
- 20:30Speaker 1: feel better, which motivated me to keep moving and keep trying.
- 20:36Speaker 1: One simple thing. If you can't do anything but get
- 20:39Speaker 1: up off the couch, go outside and walk to the
- 20:43Speaker 1: end of the block and back. Do that until you
- 20:47Speaker 1: start feeling better, and then go a little further.
- 20:50Speaker 2: And the first time you do it, you'll feel better.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Because even us sometimes because I have my own business,
- 20:56Speaker 2: so I run my business from home, and business is
- 21:00Speaker 2: not the author business because as friends seeing might agree,
- 21:03Speaker 2: I'm sure she'll agree with me, you don't get rich
- 21:06Speaker 2: off of we write the books that we write because
- 21:10Speaker 2: we want to help people. Okay, so but I have
- 21:14Speaker 2: we have another business that I run from home. So
- 21:16Speaker 2: sometimes I'm here and I feel a little bit low,
- 21:19Speaker 2: un enter I shoes on or not, because a lot
- 21:24Speaker 2: of times I walk in my backyard bear feet. You
- 21:26Speaker 2: see me do that, And I'll go and I'll do
- 21:30Speaker 2: ten laps around my property because I live on an
- 21:32Speaker 2: acre of land, and ten laps in the sun, and
- 21:37Speaker 2: when I get back in, I feel like I could
- 21:41Speaker 2: move mountain exercises. Medicine and the vitamin D and everything
- 21:48Speaker 2: else that we get from the sun that we don't
- 21:50Speaker 2: even know is medicine, and the fresh air's medicine. You
- 21:53Speaker 2: go outside, you hear the birds, You see the squirrels
- 21:56Speaker 2: scurrying around. Medicine, and while you're doing it, you bring
- 21:59Speaker 2: the baby with you, bring your animal with you, bring
- 22:02Speaker 2: your mate with you, and just take a few laps
- 22:04Speaker 2: around if you're at the office. When I worked at
- 22:07Speaker 2: the hospital, I would get thirty minutes for lunch. I
- 22:11Speaker 2: would use fifteen minutes to eat my lunch. I always
- 22:14Speaker 2: brought my lunch from home because when you bring your
- 22:16Speaker 2: lunch from home, you know that you're eating healthily. And
- 22:19Speaker 2: a quick hit that I want to give is you
- 22:22Speaker 2: can actually prepare enough salad. For example, put that in
- 22:26Speaker 2: mat divide it. I'll put it in Mason jars. Just
- 22:29Speaker 2: don't put your salad dressing on, or if you're going
- 22:31Speaker 2: to put protein, you'll put the protein on yet, like
- 22:33Speaker 2: your beans or whatever, and stick your salad in the
- 22:37Speaker 2: refrigerator and then grab and go the next day. Okay.
- 22:41Speaker 2: So I always packed my lunch and I would have
- 22:44Speaker 2: my lunch in that fifteen minutes, and the other fifteen
- 22:46Speaker 2: minutes was walking around the business, the hospital building, around
- 22:51Speaker 2: the hospital building. When I got back, I was more
- 22:55Speaker 2: clear minded, were energized, better mood to take better care
- 22:58Speaker 2: of my patients as a nurse. So if you're a physician,
- 23:02Speaker 2: if you're a therapist, if you were if you were
- 23:05Speaker 2: an engineer, whatever it is, if you take that walk
- 23:08Speaker 2: during your lunch break five minutes, two minutes when you
- 23:11Speaker 2: go back, you'll be better able to function and optimize
- 23:15Speaker 2: whatever it is you're doing on your job.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Absolutely. And now I was looking at Marva's video that
- 23:24Speaker 1: she posted today, and she gave just a whole list
- 23:28Speaker 1: of all the benefits of eating watermelon. I was amazed
- 23:33Speaker 1: by all the nutrients you could get out of a watermelon,
- 23:38Speaker 1: which is inexpensive, and everybody loves watermelon and it tastes good.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I bet you, I bet you. Almost everybody watching this
- 23:47Speaker 1: had some watermelon for the Fourth of July. Oh you
- 23:51Speaker 1: didn't even know how healthy it was. But if you
- 23:54Speaker 1: like to know more about the healthy watermelon, Marva's going
- 23:59Speaker 1: to put the link to her Facebook page in the
- 24:03Speaker 1: chat when we get off this call. And if you
- 24:06Speaker 1: have any questions, please put them in the comments and
- 24:11Speaker 1: we will answer any questions you have and let us
- 24:14Speaker 1: know if you want Marva to come back and talk
- 24:17Speaker 1: to us again.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Yes, and I'd like to say that you can. You know,

- 24:27Speaker 2: social media platforms. I have a YouTube channel. I saw
- 24:30Speaker 2: that you checked it out because you posted one of
- 24:32Speaker 2: my videos that I forgot I had put up. I'm

- 24:43Speaker 2: I have a Facebook group, and I'm in other Facebook
- 24:45Speaker 2: groups like Francis's Facebook group. I'm on LinkedIn and I'm
- 24:50Speaker 2: also on TikTok and I also have a monthly a
- 24:55Speaker 2: free monthly health and wellness newsletter that I send out
- 25:01Speaker 2: every month, and you can sign up for that. It's free,
- 25:04Speaker 2: like I said on my website r N Marvailey dot
- 25:10Speaker 2: com r and Marvailey dot com. And I have a
- 25:13Speaker 2: lot of free recipes and tips to help you to
- 25:17Speaker 2: succeed on your health journey on my website as well.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Awesome, everybody, it's July, and I know January is the
- 25:27Speaker 1: time everybody goes on dice and says I'm gonna get healthy.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Start now and then you will be healthy in January
- 25:34Speaker 1: and you can make a different goal, right.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yeah, today's the day. Tomorrow's I promise to anyone. So
- 25:41Speaker 2: today is the day. And the thing is that you
- 25:43Speaker 2: don't have to jump in head first. You don't have
- 25:47Speaker 2: to go and pull force one hundred percent. That's a
- 25:49Speaker 2: mistake that folks make January first. They say in one month,
- 25:55Speaker 2: I'm gonna lose thirty pounds. Now, it's unrealistic and if
- 25:58Speaker 2: you do, it's not sustainable, you know. But you can
- 26:01Speaker 2: start making some baby steps now, like, for example, instead
- 26:04Speaker 2: of drinking icye, I have Coca Cola bottle up here.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Instead of having Coca cola, have water, you know what
- 26:13Speaker 2: I mean. That's one simple thing that you can start implementing.
- 26:16Speaker 2: A lot of people do drink sugary drinks and they
- 26:19Speaker 2: still want to lose weight, and they still want to
- 26:21Speaker 2: decrease your blood sugar, and they still want to feel better. Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 2: the coca cola, like the coffee with ten packs of sugar,
- 26:27Speaker 2: will give you that energy like now, but then you
- 26:30Speaker 2: crash afterwards and all the other negative side have come
- 26:35Speaker 2: with drinking those unhealthy things as opposed to water. One
- 26:40Speaker 2: quick thing, I drink a lot of water, but with
- 26:44Speaker 2: a watermelon being in season now and in summer it's
- 26:47Speaker 2: so hot, sometimes you drink the water, you don't feel
- 26:49Speaker 2: fully hydrated. I cut up a big slice of watermelon,
- 26:54Speaker 2: add water to it, put it in my bullet blender,
- 26:57Speaker 2: blended together with a slice of ginger and as a
- 27:00Speaker 2: lemon and sip it made for a few grains of
- 27:05Speaker 2: sea saut or something in it. And when you're drinking,
- 27:08Speaker 2: you feel so hydrated. Your body just come alive and
- 27:12Speaker 2: you feel energized, you know, as opposed to the coffee. Yeah,
- 27:16Speaker 2: because the coffee dehydrates you. It's a diuretic and you
- 27:20Speaker 2: peel a lot and you're not putting in enough liquids.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yes, well, it was a pleasure having you here today,
- 27:28Speaker 1: and I hope we get to do this again, and
- 27:32Speaker 1: I am hoping people ask a bunch of questions because
- 27:36Speaker 1: I'm interested in learning more.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Thank you, yes, thank you for having me my sister.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Take care.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Let's end this line. Everybody bye, all right, the live
- 27:50Speaker 1: is ended.
